Teenager Commits Suicide

A 17-year old boy from Nkayi in Matabeleland North allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Mafela Primary School in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb.

Mpilo Khumalo’s body was discovered by residents who alerted authorities. He was a Form Three pupil at Nesigwe Secondary School in Nkayi.

Mpilo, who is said to have been suffering from mental illness, had visited his relatives who stay in Nkulumane suburb soon after Government imposed a national lockdown in April.

When a Chronicle news crew visited the site of the incident, police had just removed the body from the school in the presence of his relatives and local councillor Rodney Jele.

It is not clear how he managed to access the school but his brother said when they woke up on Tuesday morning he was not at home.

His brother, Xolani, said in the past few days Mpilo seemed distraught, stating that he wanted to return to his rural home in Madliwa Village under Chief Madliwa.

“He was staying with my sister in Nkulumane 12 but yesterday he came to where we stay in Nkulumane 5. He slept over when we woke up today, he was not home. We started looking for him and failed to find him.

Later on, we learnt that someone had committed suicide at Mafela Primary School and I discovered that it was my brother,” said Xolani.

He said while he did not expect him to end his life, he seemed troubled.

“On Monday he was not chatting with anyone; he was just quiet and would only respond when asked something. He wanted to return to our rural home having been in Bulawayo since the start of the national lockdown. He came here to seek medical treatment for mental illness and he had seemed to be doing very well but it’s unfortunate this has happened,” he said.

Clr Jele said it was saddening that a young life had been lost.

“This is very tragic and what makes it even more tragic is that this happened at a school premises. We urge residents to monitor the activities of their children, especially those with special needs. There should be a clear communication channel which can avert such incidents,” said Clr Jele.

Ingutsheni Central Hospital clinical director Dr Wellington Ranga said it was difficult to point out what could have led to the suspected suicide case.
He said in most incidents there was no link between mental illnesses and suicide cases. Dr Ranga observed that depression could trigger suicide among mental patients and the general members of the public.

“For some people suicide has been seen as a way out from difficult situations which might not be the answer. I will urge for a strong support system for those with depression and creation of clear communication channels so that those with mental illnesses do not see suicide as a way to address problems,” said Dr Ranga. -Chronicle

Chinamasa Claims Biti Wrote Pastoral Letter On Behalf Of Catholic Bishops

Tendai Biti

Farai Dziva|Jittery acting Zanu PF spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa has accused MDC Alliance leaders Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti of “authoring” the Catholic Bishops letter.

Chinamasa, quoted by NewsDay claimed that the Pastoral Letter issued by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) on 14 August was written by MDC Alliance leaders Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti.

Said Chinamasa :

We dismiss these allegations with the contempt they deserve, not only as baseless but pandering to the demands of the MDCs.
The language was clearly tilted.

In fact, you would say that the language seemed to have been written by Chamisa or Biti, most likely Biti.

We are saying to the bishops, before you speak, please ask for dialogue with our President.

We are open to any dialogue on any issue that affects Zimbabweans, that affects their lives.

We will not allow any tendencies that precipitate us to violent situations or which give encouragement to noises that want to precipitate violent outcomes for our country.

Jittery Chinamasa Accuses Opposition, NGOs Of “Bashing” Own Country

Patrick Chinamasa

Farai Dziva|Acting Zanu PF spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa has claimed Zanu PF detractors are “desperate to portray Zimbabwe as a nation facing a serious crisis.”

Chinamasa made the remarks in the capital, Harare on Tuesday.

Zanu PF is persecuting its perceived opponents and several human rights activists and opposition members have been arrested.

Said Chinamasa :
We have noted the desire to present Zimbabwe as being in a crisis that is sponsored by civic rights groups working with the US and its allies to spread malicious fake news that Zimbabwe is in a crisis of human rights violations.

Working with the MDC and ghost social media accounts and trolls created by one person, these groups are taking every opportunity they get to spread lies against the situation in our country.

They also have recruited some sections of the local media to spread the malice, some who we know are paid to do that.

While we reiterate that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe, we call upon concerned countries to seek clarity from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Information Ministry or ourselves or visit Zimbabwe and experience the beauty, love, unity, peace and stability of our nation rather than relying on faceless organisations like Tajamuka.

Mmusi Maimane Says Current Arrests By ZANU PF Govt Typical Of Arrests On Dumiso Dabengwa And Lookout Masuku

Dumiso Dabengwa

Mmusi Maimane, the former leader of the Democratic Alliance, an opposition party in South Africa has said the recent arrest of government critics in Zimbabwe reminds of the late Dumiso Dabengwa and General Lookout Masuku whom he said were wrongfully detained in the early 1980s by the Zanu PF regime.

He speaks when a number of government critics including journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume were arrested and detained for encouraging the public to participate in anti-government protests. Maimane added:

We have seen this tactic. To report on corruption, on upcoming protests, to personally express disgust at corruption, none of these are acts of treason in a free country.

He urged the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa who is also the current chair of the African Union to do more to address the Zimbabwe governance and human rights crisis. Maimane said:

… we truly need a better action from you (Ramaphosa) than the envoy which was not even afforded a chance to speak to other critical role players from the opposition and civil society. As SA we carry the cost.

Opposition MDC Alliance and some members of the diplomatic call believe that the state is sponsoring the abuse of human rights in the country.

ED’s Human Rights Record As The President Of Zimbabwe Under Scrutiny

By Masimba Mavaza and Amanda Mavhaza | Zimbabweans dotted through out the world woke up on the morning of 14th January 2019 not feeling particularly patriotic. Tired of long queues, runaway prices very grumpy not patriotic anymore. Very few people begin their day with a reaffirmation of their undying love for country. But those who are not in Zimbabwe start with looking for faults. There is a general insulting belief in the West that Zimbabweans are not capable of governing themselves. A full Member of parliament in England called to recolonise Zimbabwe. Surprisingly some Zimbabweans led by their ever destructive opposition members screamed in agreement.

But on that day, the 14th of January 2019 people stormed the buildings, streets and any thing moving in Zimbabwean towns. We will never forget it; we were glued to our screens, and phones watching in shock and sadness as the chaos unfolded. Thousands of Zimbabweans across the world felt it viscerally, as if it were an attack on their very selves. Some would even venture to say that we felt patriotic as a citizenship that day – a concept often described as anathema to polite Zimbabwean society, especially as it recasts itself in agreement to the virulent, incandescent nationalism that is characterizing our modern moment.

So the calling of a demonstration on the 31st July 2020 brought back the ugly memories of 2019. Zimbabwe needed protection from the vandals and making it even worse calling for a huge gathering during COVID 19 was in itself selfish and mischievous.

Zimbabwe needed a leader who will arise above the hooliganism which was being created by the activist who were simply doing it for their own pockets and not for the nation.

However, from a vantage point as Zimbabweans we can see that since ED came into power through a common popular uprising Zimbabweans do the concept of democracy a disservice when they conflate it with peaceful demonstrations. There was no peace neither was there patriotism in the actions of those who invaded the generally peace loving society of Zimbabwe. We should remember that patriotism is about loving your country and tends to be iterative over time; nationalism is about expressing the superiority of your country over another’s, a snapshot that ossifies national identity into something absolute.

Instead, we ought think of patriotism as duty to community and to country, as one of the most potent forces driving justice and progress in an increasingly divisive time and as a tool for empowering citizens by generating a more inclusive definition of patriotism. Zimbabwe must not look up to the West in seeking to topple your own government. Remember there are those who are always looking for wrong things about Zimbabwe.

The behaviour of most of those who wants a demonstration is treasonous unpatriotic and indeed subversive and an open act of terrorism.
To love your country is to want it to be better. To truly love a country is to say that we as educated citizens cannot and will not accept an erasure of the past nor an apathy of the present. But those who couch their hatred in the language of obligation to the state miss what exactly it means to be an engaged citizenry, what it means to critically question and protest in pursuit of a more just society.
Those who engage in subversive actions are the first ones to run abroad to get and spread bad publicity of the country.

“We must as Trump said reject the ideology of globalism and accept the doctrine of patriotism. We only have one country we can call ours in the whole world. This country is called Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe is a sovereign one, and every nation is on its own.
The Discussion about Zimbabwe in America by secretary Pompeo were He expressed disgust with the way Zimbabwe handled and pacified a lawless situation which was brought about by the perpetrators of violence masquerading as journalists showed that America is not sincere in the reengagement activities Zimbabwe is trying to bring.

Zimbabwe is governed by Zimbabweans and the way it maintains peace must not be measured by the events of one day.

Together, Zimbabweans must choose a future of patriotism, prosperity, and pride. Zimbabwe must choose peace and freedom over domination and defeat. All Zimbabweans all over the world must stand for our country and its citizens we must be forever strong, forever sovereign, forever just, and forever thankful for the sacrifice our fathers did in making us people again. Listening to Biti describing Zimbabwe to his masters in the West one may think that the country has fallen apart.

One three years ago, ED stood before Zimbabweans for the first time as the president of Zimbabwe He addressed the threats facing our country and he presented a vision to achieve a brighter future for all of citizens as he opened Zimbabwe for business.

As Mnangagwa starts a war against corruption and sharing the extraordinary progress we’ve made the detractors who had promised to spoil the spot embarked on the most violent attack on the nation and its fragile economy.

In less than two years, ED’s administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country but in three days the built resurgent name of Zimbabwe was brought tumbling down like a deck of cards by the thump soldiers leaning on the side of the opposition.

Zimbabwe’s economy is booming like never before and the effects of this growth is seen in the pains of adjustment. Since ED’s election Zimbabwe had seen relentless attack from the West and the opposition parties in the region like the DA in South Africa the EFF of Malema Silima all engineered by the opposition.
Britain dedicated hours in parliament to discuss Zimbabwe. After a peaceful arrest of terrorists and a preemptive attack by our alert police officers and managed to stop a demonstration which was meant to be very violent the West took turns to demonise the way Zimbabwe dealt with the unconstitutional uprising on its own door steps.

Those crying fowl and mobilising neighbouring countries to speak against Zimbabwe have never condemned the attack on Zimbabwean police officers and security forces by the demonstrators. No one has talked about the actions of the opposition and the civic organisations.

Those who called for the stay away on 31 July set up road blocks to force people to stay away. But our police force were on too of the situation. The army brought in sanity and peace and Zimbabweans do applaud them.

In other words, Zimbabwe is stronger, safer, and a richer country than it was when ED assumed office less than three years ago.
We must stand up for the country and its people. Zimbabwe must not be threatened by those who lost elections like the EFF in South Africa and their handlers in the West.
This is great news for our citizens and for peace-loving people everywhere. It must be known that when people respect the rights of their neighbors, and defend the interests of their people, they can better work together to secure the blessings of safety, prosperity, and peace in their country.

Every Zimbabwean is the emissary of a distinct culture, a rich history, and a people bound together by ties of memory, tradition, and the values that make our country like nowhere else on Earth.

Zimbabwe must not be told how it should be itself.

President of America Trump once said if you kill our police we will kill you. It was strong but it must be known that the reaction of a government to violent demonstrations is proportionate to the level of violence.
Zimbabwe only asks that those declaring themselves policemen of Zimbabwe honour our sovereignty in return. Zimbabwe is not torturing its citizens. Soldiers quelled violence. Yes there were some overzealous Lunatics behind the guns who crossed the lines. For those people are urged to report to the authorities.

It must be a highest honor to represent Zimbabwe abroad.

Despite the bad things said about Zimbabwe there are many who helped us reach this moment — a moment that is actually far greater than people would understand; far greater — but for also their support and the critical support that we will all need going forward.

Zimbabweans must stand before the world to share the extraordinary progress we’ve made and not to vilify demonise and scandalise it. Gone are those days when workers are forced away by those with an agenda against the country.
But those days are over. We will no longer tolerate such abuse. We will not allow our workers to be victimized, our companies to be closed against their will and Zimbabwe must never apologize for protecting its people.
Many countries are pursuing their own unique visions, building their own hopeful futures, and chasing their own wonderful dreams of destiny, of legacy, and of a home. Why is Zimbabwe not allowed the same.

Zimbabwe is richer, humanity is better, because of the stunning peace keeping by our forces each very special, each very unique, and each shining brightly in its part of the country.
In each one, we see awesome promise of a people bound together by a shared past and working toward a common future.
Zimbabwe must not be extorted into abdication of power to those who are not elected and not electable.

It has become clear that the chaos which endured the week of the 31st July 2020 was sponsored.

Thousands of the yellow vests were blinded injured arrested and killed in France but no one said anything. Criminals were arrested in Zimbabwe and the air is polluted with noise.
All we can see is that Zimbabwe is under serious attack from within and from outside. The enemies of the state have managed to turn the people against their own country. The former colonisers move motions to recolonise Zimbabwe. How do we survive this onslaught. Will Zimbabwe be a colony again?

ZANU PF Defiance, F Word Information Officer Deployed To Speak On SABC

Paul Nyathi

Tafadzwa Mugwadi

Zanu PF Director of Information Tafadzwa Mugwadib who last week insulted an Al Jazeera journalist, the Stream presenter Femi Oke during a live virtual debate has been deployed by the party to represent it yet again in a foreign television news channel.

Mugwadi will represent ZANUPF in an SABC News programme on Wednesday night at 9pm.

In a debate that was themed “Are Zimbabweans being silenced?”, Oke was reading the audiences’ comments, Mugwadi started laughing interrupting her and said, “This is rubbish. F*ck you.”

The live discussion included Human Rights Watch’s director Dewa Mavhinga and main opposition MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzai Mahere.

The emotional information officer’s utterances last week leave him highly exposed with members of the public fearing he may lose his temper yet again and utter more scary stuff.

Top Harare Businessman Arrested For Swindling Another Businessman US$25k

State Media

Harare miller Wayne Moss (46), the managing director of Mr Brands, and another local company director were recently arrested on allegations of duping a city businessman of US$25 000 cash after misrepresenting to him that they had off-shore free funds in the United Kingdom.

Moss, who is jointly charged with Kudakwashe Gambanga (35), a director of Avanteguard (Pvt) Ltd, yesterday appeared at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court on fraud charges and the two were remanded out of custody to September 3.

They are alleged to have connived to defraud the businessman of the money by manufacturing fake proof of payments. The State alleged that Moss approached the businessman and introduced Gambanga in absentia, claiming that he was in urgent need of the money to pay lobola for his fiancée, Pride Gono of Borrowdale, but could not access his free funds in cash.

He further suggested that Gambanga was offering to meet any foreign obligations for anyone, who could give him the US$25 000.

The unsuspecting businessman is reported to have believed him and offered to assist on condition that Moss should present him with a proof of transfer for the money into his bank account in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the State, Moss later emailed the businessman a fictitious proof of payment for the transfer of the money from a United Kingdom Metro Bank account into the alleged victim’s bank account.

The businessman then released the money in batches of US$4 000 and US$21 000 to Moss.

However, the money never reflected in the businessman’s account prompting him to make a follow up with Moss, who then gave him Gambanga’s contact details. But the businessman allegedly failed to recover his money so he reported the deal to the police leading to the arrest of Moss and Gambanga.

Mr Zebediah Bofu prosecuted.

STATEMENT: What Patson Dzamara told The Cancer Support Network.

PUBLIC STATEMENT: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

By Simba Chikanza | I am so saddened to hear our Patson Dzamara is no more, and I send my deepest condolences to the Dzamara family. While we’re all in such a sad grief, a certain, Mr. Kuda Musasiwa, has begun taking opportunity to use his plight to make false allegations. He last week discouraged the Cancer Support Network I interviewed from assisting Patson Dzamara claiming that they are “herbalists.”

This time Musasiwa has come back today on Wednesday 26th August 2020 once again to claim that they are “herbalists.”

The Cancer Support Network had offered to (including bringing in their expertise) take care of all expenses and handle everything in the process of Dzamara’s treatment. The Cancer Support Networks has done this in the past for other patients, and I have interviewed them in the same manner; they have never done herbal treatment or at any time mentioned or inferred such.

This was an organisation trying to help and they have in the past demonstrated good will to assist patients.

I have never in my life interviewed a herbalist nor do I personally take in their methods to the extent of publishing their work in the news. This cancer organisation, the only one I interviewed is a fully registered British company – their certificates and qualifications are online, they do not at all do herbals as alleged.

TIMELINE:
– On Wednesday 19th Aug a fund was set up to help Patson Dzamara and the announcement made that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
– An article was published on ZimEye on the same publicising the fund.
– The same day many people came up seeking to assist Mr Dzamara.
– On the same day the Cancer Support Network came up offering to assist in the same way they have done other patients in the past.
– A confusing tweet by Pachedu alleging that Cancer Support Networks is an organisation of herbalists, was quickly deleted on the 20th Aug following Mr Dzamara’s personal intervention, and below is their message – reproduced below:

In their benevolence, Cancer Support Networks had called for urgent treatment to be done on Patson Dzamara last week, indicating that his case was an emergency (the full timestamped interview is below). They recommended that despite the diagnosis having been stage 2B, condition was very aggressive and treatment should be commenced  immediately, he should not wait for for foreign based treatment which would only be possible weeks later.

. The cancer support network is on full record having been interviewed twice last week demanding that treatment be done immediately, and that people should not wait for foreign travel.

“…This is a very aggressive cancer and we need to act very fast now…. treatment has to commence now,” was their response in the below interview.

They were immediately labelled “herbalists” by Kuda Musasiwa who said they deserved to be ignored with contempt.  Musasiwa seems to have his own agenda and I have reported on the man in previous news articles for among others, demeaning the office of President Nelson Chamisa.

We have the messages from Pachedu confirming their interactions with Mr Dzamara last Thur/Friday.

Patson Dzamara communicated directly with the Cancer Support Network and he listened to their advice that treatment needs to commence immediately locally instead of waiting for foreign treatment which would happen more than 3 weeks later, caused by quarantining requirements in different countries. But the Cancer Support Network could only go so far, after they were hindered being being labelled “herbalists.”

– Between the 20th Aug and the 24th Aug, all attempts by the Cancer Support Networks were paused as a result.

Mr Dzamara said he had communicated with Musasiwa and Pachedu to clear all misconceptions. That Musasiwa continued to make the allegations  throughout the weekend, is still not clear, as far as his intentions since Patson Dzamara had already spoken about it.

– On Monday 24th Aug at 1741h, Dzamara wrote to the Cancer Support Networks saying: “Whatever help you can render to me will go a long way. Right now i need to go through the surgery as a matter of urgence [sic]this coming week.”

That was the last communication he sent.

– On that day, Cancer Support Networks reached out to send some money for his needs. They sent GBP 1038.00 raised in one day.

Meanwhile, Musasiwa has presented some screenshots of communications as evidence to claim that the org does herbal treatment. I have looked in their company records, and the person inscribed thereon, has no link or association whatsoever with the Cancer Support Network.

Furthermore the company does not do herbal treatment at all.

I enclose a copy of their registration certificate, and below is the interview with the Cancer Support Network:

In the same light there is a man named Wellence Mujuru previously exposed for running a fake cancer organisation, and has never at any time disputed the numerous articles that are over two years old. The many news articles are only published by several news websites. Today, Mujuru took opportunity to use the nation’s loss of Patson Dzamara to lay claim that the findings in the articles exposing his fake organisation, he called RWISA CANCER are false.

I am extremely saddened that my brother has passed on, and I feel it is immoral to use this time of mourning to settle personal scores. Let’s mourn our departed brother.

Keep Away From Gukurahundi Or Shift Residence” MLF Threaten – Yeah, Same Unbridled Desires Led To Gukurahundi

By Nomusa Garikai- Let me say from the on set that I totally subscribe to the notion of freedom of expression but in exercising one’s freedoms and rights one must always be careful not to step trade on other people’s freedoms and rights.

A fine line which, if crossed, turns yesterday’s liberator into today’s oppressor. Some people are making a habit of criss-crossing the line willy nilly.

“As MLF (Mthwakazi Liberation Front), we would like to warn Jenni (Williams) that, whether she is into the so-called Gukurahundi Resolution chamber through bedroom relations with Mnangagwa or she received bribes from Zanu, she should always bear in mind where this will all end,” said a statement from MLF.

“She must start considering a residential shift from Mthwakazi to Zimbabwe. If she wants to stay in Mthwakazi, we advise her to keep away from the gukurahundi issue because we cannot sit and watch her and her Matabeleland Collectives, a Zanu project, striving to let the perpetrators of the killings of our people walk scot free.

“For starters, Jenni is unqualified to sit in the resolution chamber, representing Mthwakazi people on basis that she knows nothing about the pain that Mthwakazi went through during the Gukurahundi era and the pain that she still reels in today.”

This is the threatening and posturing the people of Zimbabwe have heard these last 40 years from Mugabe and now Mnangagwa and the rest of the Zanu PF thugs. Anyone who dares say anything critical of Zimbabwe much less Zanu PF is labelled a traitor and a puppet and is subjected to all manner of harassment, physical abuse and many have even been murdered in cold blood.

MLF leaders have clearly learned the threatening and posturing from Zanu PF. Only MLF members know best on what to say and do on such matters as Gukurahundi and everyone else must be as silent as a grave! Dreads to think what would happen to Ms Jenni Williams and the rest of the Matabeleland Collectives members if MLF thugs had power and opportunity to act on their threats as Mugabe and Zanu PF have enjoyed all these years. Yet another massacre!

The root cause of the Gukurahundi massacre was Mugabe’s political intolerance and desire to dominate others. The same forces are at play here  MLF or be it the party has them cloaked as a burning desire for justice the Gukurahundi massacre! Mugabe had his desires disguised as drive for unity and development.

MLF members have turned a Mugabe and Zanu PF Gukurahundi crime into a crime where all the Shona are guilty, benefited and must now face retribution. Other than the consequences of the massacre itself, everyone in Zimbabwe across the board has suffered from the 40 years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule.

After 40 years of Zanu PF blood shed, oppression, corruption, economic chaos and God knows what else besides, the people of Zimbabwe are yarning for peace, order and economic progress. But that is clearly not want MLF members want from the growing tempo of their sabre rattling!

The same intolerance and burning desire to dominate and deny others their freedoms and rights led to the Gukurahundi massacre. We do not want to be dragged into yet another senseless conflict for the same foolish reasons!

There Is Peace, Harmony In Zimbabwe, Claims “Mr Bin” Patrick Chinamasa

Zanu Pf Maintains There Is No Crisis In Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent- The ruling ZANU PF party has accused civic rights groups, the United States of America, the opposition MDC and “ghost” social media accounts of spreading “fake news” claiming that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe.

ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa on Tuesday told reporters that sections of the local media have also been recruited to spread “malice” about the country.

Chinamasa challenged foreign countries to seek clarity on what is happening in Zimbabwe from the government instead of relying on “faceless” organisations. Chinamasa said.

Zanu Pf Makes Shocking Claims On Authors Of Catholic Bishops Letter

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa has claimed that the Pastoral Letter issued by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) on 14 August was written by MDC Alliance leaders Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti.

Addressing journalists at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Tuesday, Chinamasa said the hard-hitting letter released by Catholic Bishops could only have been written by Chamisa and Biti.

Said Chinamasa:

We dismiss these allegations with the contempt they deserve, not only as baseless but pandering to the demands of the MDCs.

The language was clearly tilted. In fact, you would say that the language seemed to have been written by Chamisa or Biti, most likely Biti.

We are saying to the bishops, before you speak, please ask for dialogue with our President. We are open to any dialogue on any issue that affects Zimbabweans, that affects their lives.

We will not allow any tendencies that precipitate us to violent situations or which give encouragement to noises that want to precipitate violent outcomes for our country.

In their pastoral letter, the Catholic bishops called on the government to order over human rights violations and corruption.

The government immediately responded by calling the bishops “genocidal”, “evil-minded” and a “self-righteous Ndebele minority”.

Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns Clash In Title Decider

Stadium

Farai Dziva|Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has said the unavailability of top scorer Samir Nurkovic for the Memelodi Sundowns clash is ‘a huge loss.’

Table-toppers Chiefs host second-placed Masandawana on Thursday at the Orlando Stadium; in what many have labelled the title-decider, with only three points seperating the two sides going into the crunch encounter.

Serbian striker Nurkovic, whose 13 goals have been key in Amakhosi’s title charge, is suspended for the clash and Middendorp admits it is a setback.

“Of course, it’s a huge loss, there’s no doubt about it and in the moment we must look at how to find a solution,” the German told South African publication Kick Off.

Middendorp might have also, for the second time in a fortnight, though indirectly, admitted that Warriors poster boy Khama Billiat is not at his best currently.

“As you know, certain players in particular in the forward movement are not at their best, but let me try to find solutions inside the squad we have, in which way we can strategise it. But it’s is definitely something very painful for me and for us,” he said.

ZIFA Boss Trial Postponed

Felton Kamambo

Zifa president Felton Kamambo’s trial didn’t kick-off on Tuesday after his legal team requested to the court to postpone the hearing to September 14.

The association boss is being accused of bribing councillors to win the votes in the 2018 elections which propelled him to the Zifa presidency, dethroning Philip Chiyangwa.

Chiyangwa and Omega Dube, who served as the former’s deputy, are the complainants in the case.

The request to postpone the trial came after the prosecutor failed to provide Kambo’s legal team with enough documents to prepare for his defence.

Meanwhile, Premier Soccer League chairman Farai Jere, who was arrested in Harare on Friday, applied for a bail yesterday and the ruling will be made today.

Jere is facing fraud charges over the selling of defective electricity meters, prejudicing Zesa by as much as US$3.5 million. He was arrested along with two Zesa employees.-Soccer 24

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA CONDEMNS ZANU PF ON THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF PATSON DZAMARA

26 AUGUST 2020 .

Mdc Alliance Namibia would like to send its condolences to the bereaved Dzamara family, MDC Alliance and all Social democrats in Zimbabwe for the unimaginable loss of the youthful, vibrant and ardent fighter Patson Dzamara.

As as a party, we were hypnotised upon receiving the devastating news that Dr Patson Dzamara our National Executive Member in the Mdc Alliance is no more.

May his soul rest in power and let God bless his beloved family that has gone through a lot of horror and tragedy at the hands of satanic Zanupf morons.

We have lost a gallant fighter for socio-economic transformation. He fought so hard for his brother’s justice and was arbitrarily arrested and tortured including being injected with an unknown substance in 2016.

Patson Dzamara confessed that the state security agents injected an unknown substance but the Zanupf denialists accused him of alarming and stage-managing his circumstances. These are the repercussions of the unknown substance.

He was technically eliminated by Zanupf since he vowed to use all his organs to force the regime to bring back his brother Itai Dzamara who was abducted in broad daylight.

To quote him verbatim, he usually said, ‘ I will never be mute until Itai Dzamara is accounted for. I will never be silent until Zimbabwe is fixed from the Zanupf mess’.

Patson Dzamara was determined and committed to confront corruption, looting, arbitrary arrests and abductions in Zimbabwe.

He is the fourth person that social democrats know in the past two years who has been afflicted by some form of colon cancer including our Icon of Democracy the late Mdc Alliance leader Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, may his dear soul rest in power.

The common denominator is that they were all political activists that have at one point been arrested, tortured and in some cases reporting being injected.

These are the satanic repercussions of evil injections from Zanupf terrorists. As Mdc Alliance Namibia, our message is that the deaths of ITAI AND PATSON DZAMARA shall continue to inspire all social democrats in the national democratic revolution.

We will complete the fight against senseless and barefaced corruption. The people will win as usual.

Thanks to all those who had been contributing to Fund our leader’s intended operation. May God bless you and your caring families.

We shall forever put political and diplomatic pressure on the autocratic regime to respect people’s freedoms and livelihoods.

There Is No Crisis In Zimbabwe, Claims Chinamasa

Patrick Chinamasa

Farai Dziva|Acting Zanu PF spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa has claimed Zanu PF detractors are “desperate to portray Zimbabwe as a nation facing a serious crisis.”

Chinamasa made the remarks in the capital, Harare on Tuesday.

COVID-19: Prevention Tips That Will Save Your Life

Coronavirus

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Many countries around the world have seen cases of COVID-19 and several have seen outbreaks.

The situation is unpredictable so check regularly for the latest news.

You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why?Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely). If possible, avoid traveling to places – especially if you are an older person or have diabetes, heart or lung disease.

Why? You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.

Government Dismisses “Talk Of Reopening Schools On September 2”

School Classroom

THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has dismissed as misleading information circulating on social media to the effect that schools will reopen on September 2.
In a statement the ministry said schools remain closed until further notice.

“Contrary to misleading social media reports that schools will reopen on 2 September 2020 or 15 September 2020 for examination classes, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education would like to reiterate to its valued stakeholders that the Government deferred the reopening of schools until further notice,” reads part of the statement.

“Government is currently in widespread consultations and will only announce any schools reopening date once Cabinet has taken a position.

It is in this light that the ministry advises all schools to remain closed until a Government directive on reopening is issued”.

According to the statement, those who defy the order for schools to remain closed may face criminal charges.

“Our valued stakeholders need to be advised that the ministry continues to prioritise health and safety as it strives to provide equitable, quality, inclusive, relevant and competence driven Primary, Secondary and Non-formal education at all times,” the statement said.

So far, Government has not come up with a position on the reopening of schools after they were closed in March due to the threat posed by Covid-19.

However, the June-July Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) public examinations were completed without a Covid-19 case being reported in centres countrywide.

There was nationwide anxiety when
Government announced the examinations would go ahead.

Teachers’ unions had said running them was risky and could spread the deadly virus.-Chronicle

“There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch, Certainly Not From The Chinese And Russians”

By Wilbert Mukori- China and Russia are the two countries that have played a major role in many African countries’ fight for independence.

It is a historic fact that most of these African countries have since found that they got rid of one oppressive and exploiting colonial power only to inherit another.

For whatever help assistance, mostly guns and other war materials and military training, the two Asian countries gave to each African country; they not only kept a tag but kept a lodger on how the every penny plus interest would be paid.

As each African country attained her independence, China and Russia saw to it that the country fell into its sphere of influence. Where the two countries had supported separate liberation movements, which was very often the case, there was a proxy war as happened in Angola and Mozambique.

Before the newly independent country has had time to sober up from the euphoria of independence and the end of the war; China and Russia would present the new leaders with the IOY and detailed proposals on how the bill can be paid.

Russia’s proxy, Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) led by the late Samora Machel, defeated the colonial rulers and the Chinese proxy to form the governing party in that country. Within weeks a fleet of Russian fishing vessels claimed exclusive fishing right off the coast Mozambique and many, many more such one-sided and exploitative deals were to follow.

In Zimbabwe, it was China’s proxy Zanu PF led by the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe that prevailed over the Russian back PF Zapu. The Chinese presented Mugabe with the IOY and the exploitation of Zimbabwe by China started in earnest.

The exploitative deals were so lucrative, China and Russia would recover every penny of the IOY ten times within the first decade, two decades.

With the exception of one or two countries most African leaders did not want to share power and thus imposed a de jure or de facto one-party dictatorship. Both China and Russia have assisted in this and thus cementing their continued influence in Africa to this day.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, certainly not from the Chinese and Russians. It is therefore surprising that the Chinese Embassy in Harare had the chic to claim otherwise!

“The Standard carried an article on August 23 by Tawanda Majoni. By questioning Anjin’s return, the author falsely claims the Chinese government is somehow involved in Anjin’s business deals and conflicts in the country, which is a distortion and smearing of the Chinese foreign policy towards Zimbabwe,” reported News Day,

“The piece is full of unfounded accusations, conjectures and sheer lies, proving nothing but an appalling lack of common sense and self-confidence.”

It is no exaggeration to say corruption is the root cause of all Zimbabwe’s political, economic and social problems. And nothing epitomises the sheer extend and depth of the rampant corruption than the wholesale looting of the country’s Marange and Chiadzwa diamonds. The wealth from the sell of diamonds, valued at US$ 2 million plus a month, should have been used in the country’s developed is instead going into the pockets of the few ruling elite. Worst of all, the looted wealth is being used to bankroll the Zanu PF dictatorship and thus keeping it in power against the democratic wishes of the people.

The Chinese company Anjin has been at the very heart of the looting of diamonds in Zimbabwe. It is laughable that the Chinese Embassy should now try to disown Anjin!

China’s foreign policy towards Zimbabwe is premised of the later paying back China for the military and other assistance Mugabe received before independence and thereafter. Anjin is one of the many Chinese companies who have benefited from this policy.

Indeed, Anjin’s diamond mining operations were terminated and the company booted out of Zimbabwe by the late Zanu PF dictator, Robert Mugabe, after he publicly complained of nations that have made promises that they have failed to honour.

The people of Zimbabwe remember, no doubt the Chinese Embassy officials don’t remember and need reminding, of the many “mega deals” Mugabe signed with China. Deals that were never honoured.

Patrick Chinamasa, then Minister of Finance and a member of the high powered delegation accompanying Mugabe to China, admitted that the Chinese had complained of Zimbabwe’s failure to pay its debts.

“Shǒuxiān chánghuán zhàiwù!” (First pay your debts!) the Chinese told Mugabe to his face!

No doubt, Mugabe did not take the demand to pay up seriously; after all he, of all people, knew that ever since the country’s independence whatever the Chinese had given to Zimbabwe with one hand they always took away took back and more with the other hand. Mugabe’s fallout with the West; he has maintained it was over the seizure of white owned farms to give to blacks, but the truth is it was over the failure pay debts; forcing him to adopt the “Look East!” policy. The move left Zimbabwe totally dependent on China and  with the greater dependence came greater exploitation!

So when China insisted on Zimbabwe paying its outstanding debts before it would spend one more Yuan on the “mega deals”; Mugabe’s knee jerk reaction was to booted out Anjin!

A few moon after Anjin was booted out of Zimbabwe, Mugabe was himself booted out of office in the November 2017 military coup; history will reveal what role China played in this. Emmerson Mnangagwa, who succeeded Mugabe, signed an impressive list of “mega deals” forming the skeleton Zanu PF’s 2018 election manifesto.

Mnangagwa disregarded his own earlier promise to hold free, fair and credible elections and, instead, blatant rigged the July 2018 elections. What further role, beside the mega deals promise, the Chinese played in the rigged elections, time will tell. Anjin was back in Marange and Chiadzwa soon after the July 2018 elections; no doubt Mnangagwa thanking the Chinese for their help in getting him into State House.

Needless to say, most of the “mega deals” Mnangagwa signed with China have not materialised nor are they likely to ever materialise. And we all know why. “Shǒuxiān chánghuán zhàiwù!” That’s right!

It is not likely that Mnangagwa will dare vent his frustration with the Chinese’s refusal to bankroll at least one of the mega deals and give him something to boast about. The western nation is dismissal of the July 2018 elections as a farce and his government as an illegitimate and pariah state has left Mnangagwa high and dry.

The country’s worsening economic situation has made the ordinary people more restless and desperate for real change. To hang on to power, Mnangagwa has resorted to brute force. The pressure for meaningful change is mounting and it is as clear as day, that change is coming. It would be unwise to boot out Anjin out of Zimbabwe and earn the wrath of the Chinese.

“Chinese government is NOT involved in Anjin’s business deals or Zimbabwe’s internal affairs. To suggest otherwise is a distortion and smearing of the Chinese foreign policy towards Zimbabwe!” Nonsense, China is but Zimbabwe’s new colonial master and corrupt one-side business deals and meddling in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs to keep Zanu PF in power at all cost are core pillars of China’s foreign policy towards Zimbabwe!

“Don’t Frog March Learners To Write Their Final Exams”: ARTUZ Tells Govt

By A Correspondent- Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president Obert Masaraure said the November public examinations should be deferred to May 2021 as the majority of learners will not have enough preparation time this year.

Masaraure was responding to Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa who told a post-cabinet news conference last Tuesday that schools will reopen next month with examinations for Ordinary and Advanced Level classes going ahead between November and December.

Masaraure argued that only a few elite pupils have access to online learning material while the majority of leaners are totally ill-equipped for the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) exams.

He said:

The examinations will be forced down the throats of over 650 000 unprepared learners who had no access to remote learning after COVID-19-induced schools closure of 24 March 2020.

An average of 32 000 elite learners who enjoyed exclusionary access to online learning will be ready for these apartheid examinations.

Examination candidates have lost five solid months of learning time in the critical final year of their studies.

They are likely to lose more. Traditionally, these lost months are dedicated to completing the syllabi and embarking on a robust revision process to recall concepts covered in the first academic year of the two-year course.

It is practically impossible to frog march these ill-prepared learners into the examination room and expect them to cough out good results.

Schools were closed in March this year due to the coronavirus outbreak and were initially set for reopening in July but those plans were aborted following a surge in local transmission cases.-newsday

“Spare Us Your Blatant Lies Honorable Minister”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Sadly, I too tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. This virus is real and we need to fight it by following the guidelines that our Government has given us which is in line with the WHO regulations,” said Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Deputy Minister Vangelis Peter Haritatos.

Deputy Minister Haritatos, you were tested for covid-19 as soon as you suspected of catching the virus; possibly as soon as you learned your boss, the late Minister Perrance Shiri had the virus.

Do you know that there are hundreds of thousands of frontline workers, like nurses and doctors, who work with covid-19 patients without the recommended WHO PPE, not even the most basic face mask?

Deputy Minister, do you also know that WHO has recommended that frontline corona virus workers must be tested on regular bases? In Zimbabwe, many of the nurses and doctors let alone the ordinary people with the corona virus symptoms, are not being tested.

As soon as you learned you had the corona virus, you went into isolation to protect your family and friends. Has it ever occurred to you that all those poor Zimbabweans who have the virus but don’t know it because they are denied a US$6 test would too want to go into isolation to protect their family and friends?

Zimbabwe has carried out a total of 145 000 tests as of the end of July, that is 1 in 110 people tested. Compared to SA that has done 3 million tests which 1 in 20. This is contrary to the WHO clarion call to “Test! TEST!! TEST!!!

There is a sinister reason why Zanu PF is not testing aggressively, at least not testing povo. The regime is hiding its blundering incompetence in the handling of the pandemic by sweeping the grime reality under the carpet.

Zimbabwe’s confirmed covid-19 cases and deaths is one of the lowest per capita in the world. Whilst other nations have earned the accolade by stamping out the virus Zimbabwe is cheating. Of course, if you do not test you will keep the confirmed cases and deaths very low.

The price of not testing is that many, many infected people who should be in isolation remain in the community spreading the virus far and wide. It is the povo, not the ruling elite, who are paying with their suffering and deaths for Zimbabwe’s rigged corona virus statistics!

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the corona virus statistics, just as the regime has rigged the country’s elections, with the usual callous indifference to tragic suffering and deaths the spreading corona virus is causing to the ordinary people. Deputy Minister Haritatos, please, please spare us your insulting lies; the criminal negligence and dereliction of duty to save lives by this Zanu PF government is not what WHO ordered!`

“Jenni Williams Is Not Qualified To Sit In The Gukurahundi Resolution Chamber”

MLF is pissed-off to learn that all along, Jenni Williams disguised as the human rights activist who herself out of her mouth said she would never share a platform with Emmerson Mnangagwa, the serial killer of her kith and kin, yet she is the sweet talking suppressor of the human rights.
The lady has skinned off the sheep skin and she has on full time joined other hyenas. She now without shame takes orders from Mnangangwa and strive to deprive Mthwakazi people of justice for Gukurahundi genocide which killed over 80 000 innocent and defenceless people of Mthwakazi.
Jenni’s actions quickly remind us of the Shona -Whitemen union against Mthwakazi which began in 1893, where 693 Shona batsmen teamed up with the colonial settlers to destroy Mthwakazi and we wonder where she thinks this will end.
We wonder what kind of a human rights activist which does not differentiate a genocide from a natural disaster. Where on earth that Jenni is an activist on, has she ever heard of a genocide whose justice is met through devolving power and whose case is discussed and its verdict handed down out of the court of law?
As MLF, we would like to warn Jenni that, whether she is into the so-called Gukurahundi Resolution chamber through bedroom relations with Mnangagwa or she received bribes from Zanu, she should always bear in mind where this will all end.
She must start considering a residential shift from Mthwakazi to Zimbabwe. If she wants to stay in Mthwakazi, we advise her to keep away from the gukurahundi issue because we cannot sit and watch her and her Matabeleland Collectives, a Zanu project, striving to let the perpetrators of the killings of our people walk scot free.
For starters, Jenni is unqualified to sit in the resolution chamber, representing Mthwakazi people on basis that she knows nothing about the pain that Mthwakazi went through during the Gukurahundi era and the pain that she still reels in today.
At her late and perhaps her final adulthood days, Jenni should be ashamed of soiling her career in activism when she should be doing things correctly. What she is doing can never be mistaken for an error but simply selling out Mthwakazi people.
In her hands, the Gukurahundi case is not just in the wrong hands but in a slithery snake that wants to use the case to bite on the unsuspecting Mthwakazi people.
We urge all Mthwakazi people to rise against this Zanu sponsored project in whichever possible way. Let no victim of Gukurahundi be exhumed anywhere. Let no Mthwakazi person be made to believe in the promised modern day justification of colonialism.
Who is Zimbabwe to devolve power to Mthwakazi in her own territory? Mthwakazi does not want to be ruled nicely anymore but she wants to rule herself and decide her political, social, economical and cultural wellness.
Jenn and company in Matabeleland Collectives lack respect for our nation and in whatever cost they need to be disciplined. We are more appalled to learn that they even invite the shameless and unrepented butcherer of our people all the way from Zimbabwe to interfere with that thorny issue.
Isn’t that evident enough to prove that Jenni and company are secret agents of Zanu specially employed to set off the hook the perpetrators of the killings or that is a sign of madness that Mugabe talked about?
If they think we will consider their actions as a ‘moment of madness’, then they are joking. As long as we never saw or heard of any psychiatrist hired to attend to Mugabe until his death, they must know that their actions are calling for Mthwakazi justice and in that regard, we say, shame on those whose hands will be found to be socked in the blood of the gukurahundi victims or in any way adjudged to have interfered wrongly with the case. They will wish that they had died with Robert Mugabe and Perence Shiri.

“Nonsense! China Is But Zimbabwe’s New Colonial Master”

Harare Pastor Caught Red Handed In Bribery Storm

By A Correspondent- A famous Harare preacher was arrested last week on allegations of bribery involving National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) officials.

Nixon Chibuzor Ohizu (46) the leader of Empowerment Ministries Church along Seke Road, Harare, gave US$2 000 to two high ranking NRZ officials to have them reverse the cancellation of a lease agreement between his church and the transport utility.

Ohizu reportedly met Colonel Nyabambi and Clive Ncube at the NRZ offices and tried to bribe them to reverse the cancellation of a lease agreement between his church and NRZ served on him on August 7.

The two NRZ officials reportedly accepted a bribe offer of US$2 000 during their initial meeting.

When the preacher returned to the offices with the money, the NRZ officials had already notified the police and a trap had been set for him.

He was arrested when he brought the money – the whole US$2 000 in $100 denominations. The money is being kept as an exhibit.

Ohizu was not asked to plead to the allegations when he appeared before Harare magistrate Richard Ramaboa.

He was remanded out of custody to October 1 on $10 000 bail and was ordered to surrender his passport.

ZESA Clarifies On Power Outages

By A Correspondent- ZESA Holdings has said power outages being experienced in different parts of the country are due to a technical fault at Kariba and Hwange Power station.

Power supply had vastly improved since March until recently when some areas have been experiencing power cuts.

ZESA Holdings acting group stakeholder relations manager Ms Prisca Utete said the situation had been compounded by the unavailability of normal import levels due to constraints in the region.

“Hwange unit 5 has been out and works are at an advanced stage to recover it, while Unit 2 developed tube leaks and repairs are almost complete with expectations of bringing it back as soon as possible, hence minimising the demand supply mismatch,” she said.

“Unit 8 is out of service due to a technical fault at Kariba power station, which is currently operating with seven units. Efforts are underway to restore this unit.” She said that power supply should be stable starting this week.

Pensioners Suffer As Companies Fail To Submit Payments To Pension Funds

State Media

LOCAL companies have failed to remit at least $887 million in employee pension contributions to pension funds for the first six months of the year.

Speaking during a virtual conference with journalists on Tuesday Insurance and Pensions Commission Commissioner, Dr Grace Muradzikwa has most companies have been struggling to remit pension funds to insurance companies due to various reasons.

Dr Muradzikwa said there are also more than 153 000 pensioners who have not claimed their benefits from the insurance companies and the unclaimed benefits have accumulated to $196 million.

“Some of the challenges that the pensions and insurance sector are facing are that companies have not been able to remit pension funds. There are contribution arrears of $887 million. The pension fund has also been affected by reduced disposable income owing to company closures, retrenchments and lack of formal employment opportunities.

There are also unclaimed Benefits. There are at least 153,000 members with unclaimed Benefits that have accumulated to about $196 million.

The challenges that the pensions sector are poor investment climate and low confidence owing to hyperinflationary legacy issues,” she said.

Dr Muradzikwa said despite the challenges bedevilling the sector that have also been exacerbated by Covid-19 effects , the pensions and insurance sectors have managed to pay more than $ 1.2 billion in claims combined between January and June this year.

“Notwithstanding the macroeconomic challenges and the global Covid-19 pandemic, the industry remains resilient as indicated by the fact that the Industry has continued to operate, paying claims and benefits even during Covid-19-induced lockdowns. The insurance sector paid about $726 million in claims from April to June 2020 while the Pensions Sector paid benefits worth $483 million from January to June 2020.

The industry is capital intensive as opposed to labour intensity,” she said.

Dr Muradzikwa said the pensions sector has witnessed a nominal increase in asset base between January and June this year as compared to the same period last year.

“The pensions sector had growth in asset base after recording an increase of 843 percent from June 2019 to June 2020, which is above the June annual inflation rate of 732 percent.

The increase in asset base was mainly on account of the revaluation gains in equities and properties. The pension sector now has assets worth ZWL$ 66.41 billion up from $ 29.81 billion recorded last year.

The increase in pension contributions could be attributed to salary increases in response to inflation though salaries aren’t tracking inflation. The pensions contributions increased to$ 1.2 billion in June up from $ 212 million recorded in June last year,” she said.

Temba Mliswa Is Not ED’s Advisor, Angry Chinamasa Reacts To Leaked Audio.

Paul Nyathi

ZANU PF National Spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa says Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa is not an advisor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, hence his move to discredit the recent appointment of ministers should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.

This comes on the wake of what he described as unethical behaviour by Mliswa to record his private conversation with businessman, Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

Chinamasa said this in his weekly press briefing on Tuesday at the ZANU PF Headquarters in Harare.

Relief For Citizens As Notorious Armed Robbers Are Arrested In Movie Style Act In Beitbridge

State Media

Police have arrested Zimbabwe’s seven most wanted armed robbers, including the notorious Musa Taj Abdul, commonly known as Salim Rahman (46) who had dramatically evaded police for close to two decades.

A Beitbridge police officer who was allegedly harbouring the robbers was also arrested.

Abdul was arrested in dramatic fashion in Beitbridge on Monday night, with dog teams playing a leading role, along with former Masvingo Central police officer Rudolf Kanhanga alias Tapiwa Munatsi (29), Beitbridge-based police officer Tapiwa Mangoma alias Tapa (27), Liberty Mupamhanga (29), Prince Makodza (31), Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Charles Lundu (47), and Innocent Jairos (32), all of Harare.

The gang is linked to a number of armed robberies, including the famous Mashwede case in Harare recently.

Police swooped on the seven suspected robbers and their police officer host in the Mashavire area, now known as Tshitaudze suburbs.

The Herald is reliably informed that the suspects were caught unawares by a team of detectives, duty uniform police, Support Unit and the canine unit. A police source close to the case said the dogs had to be used to help arrest the suspects and police were forced to fire warning shots.

“Abdul, Mupamhanga, Makodza, Lundu and Munatsi incurred some injuries from dog bites during a tussle with the police. They were taken to Beitbridge District Hospital for treatment and their condition is stable,” said the official.

Police officer commanding Beitbridge, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo, yesterday confirmed the arrest but referred further questions to national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Asst Comm Nyathi confirmed the arrests and said investigations were still in progress.

“The gang was arrested while hiding at a certain house and tried to scale precast walls while trying to escape with police officers in hot pursuit, assisted by ZRP canine section, and firing warning shots to effect arrests on the armed robbers,” he said.

A statement released by Beitbridge police said the suspects had arrived in Beitbridge at the invitation of their point man, Mangoma, a police officer in the border town.

“They were using a silver BMW and they intended to rob a house in the Mashavire area but were stopped before hitting the target when police detectives received a tip-off. These suspects are also wanted persons in Harare in connection with over five armed robberies including the Mashwede, Makoni Shopping Centre, Blue Circle, Glen Norah B safe and the Marlborough shoot-out murder and many other armed robbery cases around Zimbabwe,” reads the statement.

A silver Noringo pistol with an obliterated serial number and a magazine with 11 live rounds, 19×12 bore gauge live rounds in a webbing belt placed in a black satchel stashed in a washing basket, and a pair of number plates AEX 1577 were recovered from the suspects.

In addition, a black face mask (balaclava) was found stashed in their getaway car.

A team of detectives tracked the suspects to Mangoma’s house near Mashakada Business Centre in Beitbridge after police spotted Carrington Marasha driving the vehicle around the same business centre.

When the crack team arrived at Mangoma’s house, the suspects ran in different directions, scaling the precast wall, prompting police officers to fire warning shots and setting police dogs to subdue them, until they were finally arrested.

Abdul is believed to be the chief architect of a spate of armed robberies committed in Zimbabwe between August last year and this month.

In South Africa, Abdul is thought to have been arrested several times but released with the help of his police connections.

In March, five armed robbers were killed in a shootout with police along Glenara Avenue South in Harare, while three others were captured alive but the gang leader, another Abdul (alias Musa Mahommed or Kedha), made good his escape.

He was initially reported to be among the five dead robbers, but it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

The three dead Zimbabweans were identified as Dennis Stanley Dube alias Dingola (29), Taurai Chitepo (36) and another only identified as Johnson.

Three survivors of the shootout — Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Prince Zakeo (25) and Maxwell Stanley alias Dennis Mateta (25) — were arrested on nine counts of armed robbery.

The breaking up of both suspected robbery gangs and the arrest or death of most of their members is likely to slash Zimbabwe’s armed robbery rates.

Chinamasa Says That Targeted Sanctions Are Forcing ZANU PF Elites Into Corruption

Source: ZBC

ZANU PF has sensationally claimed that targeted sanctions on some of its leaders and institutions is the reason why they are involved in mass corruption activities.

Addressing a Press conference at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, the ZANU PF spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said the sanctions imposed on them are fuelling corruption as they have somehow incapacitated both Government and the private sector from providing competitive salaries, leaving workers susceptible to the pervasive vice.

He added that there is a clear link between corruption and the illegal sanctions imposed by some Western nations as punishment for embarking on the land reform programme.

“There is a relationship between sanctions and corruption, whereupon due to incapacitation of Government or the private sector to provide competitive salaries in the region, workers end up engaging in acts of corruption to supplement what they get which is, however, unfortunate.

“The illegal sanctions have affected our economy and continuously affect the value of our currency and consequently our returns. Again, due to sanctions our institutions mandated to fight corruption have been incapacitated to investigate swiftly both local and external cases,” said Chinamasa.

However, the United States, which still maintains the illegal sanctions has repeatedly said that the sanctions do not hurt ordinary Zimbabweans.

“It is for this reason that we implore and remind comrades in the media of their patriotic duty to report on corruption and call upon the removal of sanctions, the twin evils that are haunting our society. Daily we hear comrades in the media echoing the US Ambassador’s fake news narrative that Zimbabwean problems are a result of corruption and not sanctions.

“If sanctions were not meant to and are not affecting our economy, why have successive administrations in these countries and the US in particular kept these sanctions. For leisure or fun?” asked Chinamasa as he reiterated the call for the unconditional removal of the sanctions.

The party’s acting spokesperson added that the media should play a leading role in exposing corruption which is a threat to the nation Vision 2030 to become a middle-class economy.

“Zanu PF in 2018 earmarked the fight against corruption as one of its key deliverables and to achieve that President ED Mnangagwa declared a zero-tolerance to corruption towards building a corruption-free society,” he said.

With the fight against corruption a key priority, Chinamasa said the media was a key ally in the fight against the cancerous vice that is ubiquitous, which also rampant in churches and the civil society organisations.

CIO Efforts To Build Insurgency Evidence Against Job Sikhala Collapse

Paul Nyathi

An alert Simba Chikanza of ZimEye.com on Tuesday foiled a poorly executed CIO effort to incriminate arrested MDC Alliance Vice Chairman Job Sikhala on insurgency charges this after a stranger called the media house raising claims that he was set to meet with Sikhala at some place in Mozambique to execute an unexplained move against the goverment of Zimbabwe.

The stranger who identified himself as France Museveni based in Botswana also threw in the names of MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa and Treasurer General David Coltart expressing willingness to meet with them in a place outside the country.

ZANU PF Shuts The Door For Any Meaningful Dialogue, “Wait For 2023.”

Paul Nyathi

Patrick Chinamasa

ZANU PF has confirmed yet again that it has completely closed the door for dialogue to discuss the issues of governance in the country especially on the widely recommended move of forming a transitional government.

The failing ruling party says forming a transitional authority to better the country’s fortunes will be in violation of the country’s laws.

As reported in the state media,
The party says that the country must wait for 2023 elections, and those wishing to take part in any dialogue should do so “in several dialogue platforms availed by President Mnangagwa to address whatever challenges afflicting the country”

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana said recent calls by United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe Brian Nichols for dialogue were unfounded as Zimbabweans were already dialoguing under the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD).

“There is a platform for dialogue already. Everyone else came to that platform, there is only one political party that didn’t come for dialogue. President Mnangagwa has no problem with dialogue (and) that is why there is POLAD. There is nothing sinister about dialogue as long as people don’t think that dialogue is a power sharing platform. Dialogue is about Zimbabweans speaking to one another, charting a course for their country.

“The issue of a power sharing arrangement is not on the table as that is unconstitutional. Our Constitution is very clear. There is no room for such an animal, after the elections. We can only wait for 2023. The issue of who will govern this nation, that matter was settled in 2018. So that is not going to be a negotiated thing because that is a settled issue. If there is anything to talk about as to find out what is best for our country, Zimbabweans should talk to one another, but when it comes to political actors, the platform is there already,” said Mr Mangwana.

Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa yesterday told journalists that some foreign countries should seek clarity on what is happening in Zimbabwe instead of relying on fake news peddled by the country’sdetractors.

“We have noted the desire to present Zimbabwe as being in a crisis that is sponsored by civic rights groups working with the US and its allies to spread malicious fake news that Zimbabwe is in a crisis of human rights violations. Working with the MDC and ghost social media accounts and trolls created by one person, these groups are taking every opportunity they get to spread lies against the situation in our country.

“They also have recruited some sections of the local media to spread the malice, some who we know are paid to do that. While we reiterate that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe, we call upon concerned countries to seek clarity from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Information Ministry or ourselves or visit Zimbabwe and experience the beauty, love, unity, peace and stability of our nation rather than relying on faceless organisations like Tajamuka,” said Chinamasa.

“We refer them to the POLAD Dialogue platform which shows our desire to unite the nation by carrying all views on board, we refer them to the periodic dialogue which the President is constantly having with the Matabeleland Collective groups to bring finality to Gukurahundi,” said Chinamasa.

Over the weekend, Mnangagwa was in Bulawayo where he held meetings with the MDC-led council to tackle problems bedevilling the second capital and another indaba with the Matabeleland Collective, an amalgamation of civic rights organisations in the region.

During the meeting with the Matabeleland Collective, the President reiterated his commitment towards tackling the emotive Gukurahundi issue as well as implementing stalled development projects in the region such as the Zambezi Water Project.

Chinamasa said this only goes to demonstrate the President’s commitment to engagement.

“The party wishes to applaud our President and his Government for sterling efforts in working with interest groups, churches and societal leaders in Matabeleland to find each other and bring finality to the Gukurahundi issue. Everyone acknowledges this was previously a very difficult topic to discuss.

“President Mnangagwa, however, must be saluted for taking the giant step to confront the Gukurahundi issue head on, allowing the affected to speak out and have reburials, access to birth certificates and healing addressed. Zanu PF is fully and emotionally behind President Mnangagwa’s act of statesmanship displayed in this ongoing initiative. The party further thanks the affected communities for their cooperation with Government to bring finality to this emotive issue,” said, Chinamasa.

D-Day For Job Sikhala

State Media

MDC Alliance vice chairperson Job Sikhala will know his fate today when a Harare magistrate makes a ruling on his application challenging placement on remand on charges of inciting public violence ahead of the foiled July 31 protests.

Harare magistrate, Mr Lazini Ncube, is expected to make the ruling this afternoon.

Sikhala, through his lawyers Advocate Eric Matinenga, Mr Jeremiah Bamu and Mr Harrison Nkomo, has challenged his placement on remand, saying the allegations raised by the State are insufficient to build charges against him.

The lawyers are arguing that the State failed to furnish the court with videos and audios which the police allege carry the words formulating his charges.

Prosecutors Mr Garudzo Ziyaduma and Mrs Tendai Shonhai said they had sufficient grounds to place Sikhala on remand.

The prosecutors contend that although Sikhala claimed to have been championing human rights, he should have done it within the limits of the country’s laws.

“The rights should be exercised with due regard of other citizens and the law,” said Mr Ziyaduma. “The deprivation of liberty is premised on facts that he overstepped his limits by calling for the protests.

“The human rights defender is also a citizen who should abide by the laws of the land.

“It was clear from what he did that it warrants the placement of accused on remand.

“The facts are sufficient to raise reasonable suspicion.”

Circumstances leading to Sikhala’s arrest are that between March 1 and August 21, 2020, he originated and posted videos on different social media platforms with intent to incite public violence.

In the videos, Sikhala is alleged to have said: “People from the Zambezi to Limpopo and Forbes Border Post to Victoria Falls, 31 July 2020 should be your day.

“This is the kind of war that we have. If we do not fight this war, nothing will come out until we die.

“These men have oppressed people for a long time.”

The State also alleges that Sikhala used his social media accounts to incite Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa to attack Zimbabwean embassies.

Specialist Doctors Withdraw Services Due To Risk Of Contracting Coronavirus

coronavirus

Specialist doctors at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, the largest referral hospital in Zimbabwe, have notified hospitals of their decision to suspend their services over potential exposure to the novel coronavirus.

In a letter to the hospital’s medical superintendent last week, senior resident medical officers (SRMOs) said a sustained number of front line workers had contracted the deadly virus as a result of the inadequacy of personal protective equipment (PPEs) hence the decision to down tools.

The letter reads in part:
A considerable number of SRMOs have tested positive for SARS-COVID-19 and a sizeable number are showing symptoms of COVID-19 and await to be tested.

They further implored the superintendent’s office to order mandatory tests for all patients who are admitted.

The development comes when nurses have for a sustained period of time been on industrial action over poor salaries and potential exposure to Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Dr Agness Mahomva, the chief coordinator for the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) recently said the health and welfare of frontline workers was a priority for the government.

Over 300 health caregivers have so far tested positive for the Coronavirus while some have since defected to the private sector in search of better conditions of service and remuneration.-Daily News

In another incident a mine worker from Gwanda died after a shaft he was working in collapsed burying him underneath.

Chief Insp Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday at Lerato Mine in Shape Farm.

He said the now deceased Notice Sibanda (35) was working in a 20-metre-deep shaft when it collapsed.
“I can confirm that we recorded a mine accident which occurred at Lerato Mine in Shape Farm.

Notice Sibanda was working with his colleagues when he entered a 20-metre-deep shaft to collect some gold ore samples. The shaft curved in and buried Sibanda underneath,” he said.

“His workmates dug him out and retrieved him from the shaft while he was still alive and they rushed him to Tshelanyemba Hospital where he died the following day while admitted.”

Sanctions Causing Corruption – Chinamasa

ILLEGAL sanctions imposed on the country by some Western nations are fuelling corruption as they have incapacitated both Government and the private sector from providing competitive salaries therefore leaving workers susceptible to the pervasive vice, Zanu PF acting spokesperson, Cde Patrick Chinamasa said.

Addressing a Press conference at the governing party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, Cde Chinamasa said there was a clear link between corruption and the illegal sanctions imposed by some Western nations as punishment for embarking on the land reform programme.

“The illegal sanctions have affected our economy and continuously affect the value of our currency and consequently our returns. Again, due to sanctions our institutions mandated to fight corruption have been incapacitated to investigate swiftly both local and external cases,” said Cde Chinamasa.

The illegal sanctions that manifested themselves as financial, trade, cultural, academic, sport embargoes, diplomatic isolation, travel bans, freezing of financial accounts of the national leadership have cost the country more than US$42 billion since 2001. However, the United States, which still maintains the illegal sanctions has been trying to hide behind a finger by claiming that the sanctions do not hurt ordinary Zimbabweans.

“It is for this reason that we implore and remind comrades in the media of their patriotic duty to report on corruption and call upon the removal of sanctions, the twin evils that are haunting our society. On a daily basis we hear comrades in the media echoing the US Ambassador’s fake news narrative that Zimbabwean problems are a result of corruption and not sanctions.

He, however, said the media should be wary of being used to drive political agendas but must remain “frank and objective” and apply the highest standards of investigative journalism to unravel the intricacies inherent in corruption cases. -Herald

Caps United Boss Denies Fraud Accusations

Farai Jere

Allegations that Helcraw Electricals supplied defective electricity meters were “cooked” in a bid to elbow the company out of the project, the firm’s managing director, Farai Jere, told a magistrate yesterday when giving evidence to support his application for bail on fraud charges.

He is being charged alongside two Zesa engineers over the supply of electricity meters and related equipment worth US$3 566 878 by his company, with the State alleging that he falsified documents to win the contract.

Jere, in his bail application, told Harare magistrate Mr Lazini Ncube that accusations against him stemmed from other companies and individuals that want to take over the meter supply project, which he said was past the pilot stage and now ready for roll out.

He was being led by defence lawyer Mr Tafara Hove when he took the witness stand to testify during his bail application.

Jere denied defrauding Zesa, saying the factory which the State alleges does not exist, is situated in the United Kingdom and he visited it along with Zesa management.

He is jointly charged for fraud with suspended Zesa engineers Leonard Chisina and Freeman Kuziva.

Jere said after the contract was awarded, Zesa was given an option to go to India or the UK where the meters were manufactured.

“During that time, engineers Chuma and Shereni were the ones involved in the project, including testing of the meters,” he said.

“We then went to the UK and we wrote a letter to ZETDC for names of officials that we needed to travel to the UK with and they gave us four names”.

Jere said Zesa decided to pay his company for the supplied meters after being satisfied with the quality of the products.

“On the contract, we were supposed to install 500 meters in each of the regions, which we did, and ended up installing 600 to their satisfaction,” he said.

Jere said Zesa had previous dealings with Secure Meters since in 2013, it supplied state-of-the-art statistical metering worth US$8,5 million and they are still functioning.

He said he was surprised to receive a complaint from Zesa saying the meters were not functioning according to their expectations two years after their supply since these meters had already passed their defect-liability period.-The Herald

G40 Ministers Want Join Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF

Two former cabinet ministers have made applied to re-join the ruling Zanu-PFparty, two years after they were expelled, the Midlands provincial chairperson has said.

In an interview, ZANU-PF Midlands chairperson Daniel Mackenzie Ncube confirmed that former Minister of Sports Recreation, Arts and Culture, Makhosini Hlongwane and former Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Tapiwanashe Majaya Matangaidze are among former party members who have re-applied t be re-admitted into Zanu PF.

Hlongwane, a former ZBC reporter. was the legislator for Mberengwa East while the former Premier Soccer League president Matangaidze was the Shurugwi South legislator.

“We have applications from former ministers. We have got applications from Makhosini Hlongwane and Tapiwa Matangaidze. We will be sitting down to make our decision on them.”

“It’s something we should have done about two weeks ago, so we are trying to get a slot so that we can sit down and make the necessary recommendation to headquarters. We are far behind on the issue.

The provincial chairperson said Zanu-PF is a “big tent”, and that people who want to join or re-join the party were most welcome after being vetted.

“But they will have to be properly vetted and most likely they will start at the bottom of the rank,”said Mackenzie Ncube.
“ They will be observed over time to ensure that they are now compliant in everything they do.”

Hlongwane, Matangaidze and five other executive members were expelled from the party ove two years ago after Zanu-PF Midlands provincial executive accused them of misconduct, peddling falsehoods to the party’s leadership and dividing the province.

The other Midlands provincial executive members who were also affected Anastacia Ndhlovu, Lot Mpofu Chihwereva, Tsitsi Zhou, Mercy Mashunye and Tapiwa Njovana.

Messi Submits Request To Leave Barcelona

Messi

Leo Messi has sent a certified letter –
known as a burofax in Spain – to Barcelona, communicating his intention to leave the club.

The player intends to take advantage of a clause in his contact that allows him to unilaterally break the contract at the end of each season.

Messi believes he can still break his contract with Barcelona
Barcelona had understood that this clause expired at the end of each 31 May, meaning that the contract had automatically renewed for another year.

However Messi’s lawyers argue that the season within the meaning of the clause did not finish on 31 May due to the coronavirus pandemic and that Messi therefore retains the option to terminate the contract.

Where the contract had automatically renewed Messi’s buy-out clause of €700 million would still be in effect through to 30 June 2021.

According to various sources, Messi’s decision is final and he will not play for Barcelona again.-AS

Postpone Public Exams

ZIMSEC

Farai Dziva|
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has urged government to postpone public examinations to May 21.

ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure argued November public examinations should be deferred to May 2021.

Masaraure, quoted by NewsDay, said :

Coronavirus: Always Remember To Maintain Required Physical Distance …

Sikhala Exposes Prison Conditions As Court Denies Chin’ono Bail

ZENGEZA West constituency legislator Hon. Job Sikhala on Monday 24 August 2020 laid bare the grim conditions prevailing at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison where he alleged that prisoners were dying after contracting coronavirus while detained at the notorious prison.

Through his lawyers Jeremiah Bamu, Advocate Eric Matinenga and Harrison Nkomo of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Hon. Sikhala, who was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) members on Friday 21 August 2020 and charged with incitement to commit public violence, told Magistrate Lazini Ncube that some inmates were dying in prison after contracting coronavirus.

Hon. Sikhala, who is detained in the D class section at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, which is reserved for some convicted people currently serving their prison sentences, protested that prison guards were ill-treating him and singled out two officers namely George Mutimbanyoka, the Officer In Charge of Chikurubi Maximum Security
Prison and a junior officer only identified as Murima who told him that he will die in prison.

Mutimbanyoka, Hon. Sikhala said, had asked him to advise prison guards about the identity of his next of kin so as to inform the person as he would die while detained in prison.

The Zengeza West legislator said he was being detained while handcuffed and in leg irons without personal protective equipment and asked the court that he be detained elsewhere other than Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.

This ill-treatment by prison officers, Hon. Sikhala said, was a transgression of his fundamental rights.

In response, Magistrate Ncube said the complaints by Sikhala were serious as they affect every inmate’s health and ordered the state to conduct investigations into the state of conditions at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison and to furnish the court with a report.

The 48 year-old Hon. Sikhala returns to court on Wednesday 26 August 2020 when Magistrate Ncube will hand down his ruling on his application challenging his placement on remand. Through his application, Hon. Sikhala is arguing that he did not commit an offence
warranting to be arrested and detained through recording and circulating the alleged videos as he was exercising his constitutional rights to freedom of expression and petition.

Hon. Sikhala was arrested on Friday 21 August 2020 and charged with incitement to commit public violence as defined in section 187(1)(a) as read with section 36(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

He was also charged with incitement to commit public violence as defined in section 187(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act as read with section 36(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act or alternatively incitement to participate in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of peace or bigotry as defined in section 37(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

ZRP officers alleged that the Zengeza West constituency legislator incited people between 1 March 2020 and 21 August 2020 to participate in public demonstrations that would cause public violence and breach of peace among people in Zimbabwe on 31 July 2020 and on 31 August 2020 by posting video clips with some inciting messages.

Meanwhile, Harare Magistrate Ngoni Nduna on Monday 24 August 2020 denied bail to freelance journalist Hopewell Chinóno, who has been in detention since 20 July 2020 when he was arrested by ZRP members and charged with inciting people to revolt against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration during some planned anti-government
protests.

ZRP members charged Chin’ono with incitement to participate in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of peace or bigotry as defined in section 187(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act as read with section 37(1)(a)(i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.\

ZRP members also pressed alternative charges of incitement to commit public violence as defined in section 187(1)(a) as read with section 36(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

The law enforcement agents alleged that Chin’ono, who is represented by Advocate Taona Nyamakura, Gift Mtisi and Douglas Coltart of ZLHR, allegedly posted various messages on his Twitter account using the handle @daddyhope between May 2020 and July 2020 calling upon Zimbabweans across the country to engage in acts of public violence against the government on 31 July 2020.

The journalist allegedly posted several messages on Twitter which read; “@Ngarivhume and many others have come to put their hands up and said they will lead anti-looting demo on 31 July”, “Zimbabwe will never be free from looters through elections it is just a waste of time” and “If you feel like shouting#zanuPFMustGo and Mnangagwa and his regime has failed, how they will go will be determined by history and yet Mnangagwa refuses change will come by any means.”

ZRP members alleged that by posting such messages Chin’ono intended to disturb the peace, security or order of the public.

This is the third time that Chinóno has been denied bail after the first two unsuccessful bids before Magistrate Nduna in July and before High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi.

Besides Chinóno, Harare Magistrate Trynos Utahwashe on Friday 21 August 2020 denied bail for the third time to Transform Zimbabwe party leader Jacob Ngarivhume, who has been in jail for more than one month after he was arrested on 20 July 2020.

Magistrate Utahwashe said Ngarivhume, who is represented by Moses Nkomo of ZLHR, cannot be freed on bail because he was a danger to the public.

Ngarivhume was arrested by ZRP members on Monday 20 July 2020 and charged with incitement to participate in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of peace or bigotry as defined in section 187(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act as read with section 37(1)(a)(i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and
Reform) Act. He was also charged with incitement to commit public violence as defined in section 187(1)(a) as read with section 36(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Prosecutors alleged that Ngarivhume incited people to revolt against President Mnangagwa’s administration during some planned anti-government protests called for 31 July 2020.

Anjin Corruption And Meddling In Zimbabwe’s Affairs Are Not China’s Foreign Policy”

China and Russia are the two countries that have played a major role in many African countries’ fight for independence.

To suggest otherwise is a distortion and smearing of the Chinese foreign policy towards Zimbabwe!”

Nonsense, China is but Zimbabwe’s new colonial master and corrupt one-side business deals and meddling in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs to keep Zanu PF in power at all cost are core pillars of China’s foreign policy towards Zimbabwe!

She ‘gave them hell and they lost their marbles’: Beatrice Mtetwa’s long fight for justice

RFI Africa

She has been assaulted, arrested and detained in the course of her career, and now Beatrice Mtetwa, one of Zimbabwe’s most famous human rights lawyers, faces the threat of being struck off the professional register.

Remember that iconic photograph of a lawyer, dressed in green prison garb, climbing into the back of a police truck and turning to wave undaunted to supporters in Harare in 2013? That was Mtetwa.

“The system is afraid of her. She is steadfast, determined & resolute. Don’t omit her when names of heroes of this generation are called,” Zimbabwean activist Victor Chimhutu said in a tweet earlier this week.

For more than two decades Mtetwa has taken on high-profile cases in the defence of human rights and press freedom in the southern African country.

Mtetwa was born in Swaziland (now Eswatini) and moved to Zimbabwe to practice law in 1983. Her name has frequently appeared in international news copy, due to the cases and clients she’s taken on.

These include human rights activist Jestina Mukoko, director of the Zimbabwe Peace Project, who was abducted, held incommunicado and tortured by security agents in 2008, when the late Robert Mugabe was still president.

Glare of cameras

Mtetwa helped to successfully defend Mukoko when she was finally brought to court on terrorism charges, which were also levelled against a number of opposition activists. at the time.

Long before Hopewell Chinono, who she has been defending in court this month, she had a history of defending journalists, including Andrew Meldrum, who worked for Britain’s Guardian newspaper. Mtetwa got Meldrum acquitted of “publishing a falsehood” in 2003. The state went on to deport him.

Having contacts in the press has sometimes come in useful for Mtetwa.

She told the Committee to Protect Journalists in a 2005 interview that getting as many reporters as possible to accompany her on potentially dangerous assignments helped.

“In the glare of cameras I find that people don’t want to do what they would want to do,” she said. “So in a lot of ways I think I’ve been lucky, and I haven’t received as much harassment as one would have expected, or as much as other human rights defenders have had.”

It hasn’t always worked. Mtetwa, who has won numerous awards, including the 2014 International Women of Courage Award and the 2005 International Press Freedom Award, was assaulted in police custody in 2003 and beaten by riot police armed with truncheons during a protest march in 2007.

‘Another level of madness’

She was also arrested while defending a client in 2013 ahead of presidential polls and held in police custody for more than a week.

This week she was accused of undermining the justice system.

Magistrate Ngoni Nduna on Tuesday barred her from representing detained journalist and anti-corruption activist Hopewell Chin’ono, and urged state prosecutors to get her practising certificate cancelled.

In a tweet following the ruling, the EU delegation in Harare said: “We urge the authorities to respect the right of accused persons to bail & representation by a lawyer of their choice.”

Evan Mawarire, the founder of the #ThisFlag movement, who was defended by Mtetwa after he was charged with treason over last year’s anti-government protests, said the court’s decision to bar Mtetwa from Chin’ono’s case was “another level of madness.”

He tweeted: “Beatrice the one woman super power gave them hell and they lost their marbles.”
