Tinashe Sambiri|Teachers have described the Zanu PF regime’s decision to enforce the opening of schools without adequate consultations as suicidal.
COVID-19 cases are gradually increasing in schools around the country and this has been attributed to the regime’s failure to involve key stakeholders in consultations.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou slammed the regime for exposing teachers and pupils to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
“Decision to open schls was suicidal. Cases at Nyamuka Pri and Kriste Mambo (Manic), Tongwe High (Mat South), and Neshangwe High (Mash East). With more than 100 case of affected students Masase and Chegato High Schools (where I learnt), are the most affected. Cry the blvd pupils,” argued Zhou.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe national coordinator Harrison Mudzuri said:
The tragedy with the Zim gvt is that its decisions for the education sector are made by non teachers.
These aliens to the education sector decided the opening of schools.
Consulting wrong people will always produce wrong results.
These aliens decided exam time table and the results of the exams.
They decide the salaries and working conditions for teachers.
They decide the discipline procedures for teachers.
Strange enough, the education sector resembles life in the barracks.
By A Correspondent- High Court Judges Justice Sunsley Zisengwe and Justice Garainesu Mawadze on Wednesday 15 September 2021 quashed the conviction and 16-months imprisonment of Shilla Chisirumunhu, a Masvingo-based teacher, who was convicted in 2020 for participating in a protest demanding improved salaries and working conditions for teachers.
The two Judges upheld the 53-year-old Chisirimunhu’s appeal against both conviction and sentence after his lawyer Martin Mureri of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights appealed against Masvingo Magistrate Mbonisi Ndlovu’s ruling wherein she was found guilty of participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace or bigotry as defined in section 37 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Chisirimunhu, the Masvingo Provincial Gender Secretary for Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) and who had been out of custody on ZWL$2 000 bail, had been arrested in June 2020 together with Obert Masaraure, the leader of ARTUZ, after they allegedly participated in a demonstration held in Masvingo, where teachers protested against poor salaries and unfavourable working conditions and demanded to be paid a monthly salary amounting to US$520.
While Chisirimunhu was jailed, Masaraure, who had also been on trial facing the same charges of participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace or bigotry as defined in section 37 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, was acquitted by Magistrate Ndlovu.
Energy minister Zhemu Soda allegedly dished out grocery hampers to Zanu-PF women structures in Muzarabani at the weekend in what some party members from the province allege was vote buying for his ally, Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe who wants to retain the party provincial chairmanship.
Kazembe is reportedly facing competition in elections expected soon where he will be challenged by former Education minister Lazarus Dokora, businessman James Makamba and former MP Christopher Chitindi, among others.
Soda on Saturday allegedly dished out food hampers to branch chairpersons and traditional leaders at Muzarabani Hall.
“The hampers had cooking oil, sugar, two coffee mugs and salt. This is vote buying ahead of the provincial elections,” a Zanu-PF member, who declined to be named, said.
“Soda was supported by Kazembe during his campaign to be DCC (district development committee) chairperson for Muzarabani. Kazembe used his influence as the provincial chairperson to mobilise support for Soda, who is now paying back by supporting the provincial chairman to retain his position. What the ministers ae doing is tantamount to vote buying.”
Soda is alleged to be trying to block the deputy speaker of Parliament Tsitsi Gezi from retaining her position as provincial chairlady in Muzarabani because she is believed to be a Dokora ally.
Soda said: “That is not true. Hampers were given at a women’s league meeting which was addressed by Mai Gezi on Saturday.”
Gezi confirmed the meeting which she said was for women’s league members, from politburo to the grassroots, where they were launching a goat rearing project.
“They were bought by Hon Soda,” she said. “They food hampers were distributed to all the district women’s league structures.”
Asked to comment on allegations of vote buying, she said: “I don’t know the reason why Hon Soda bought the hampers, so I cannot comment on that.”
On allegations that she was being blocked by Soda from retaining her position, she said: “I was there as the women’s league provincial chair.”
There has been a lot of jostling in the province for the chairmanship, with party supporters split in support for Kazembe, Dokora and Makamba. Kazembe has been accused of victimising members who do not support him.
A teacher from Zaka will rue the day he decided to transfer to another school, after he was forced to sleep in the open for six days as school head refused to accept him saying his place had already been taken by someone.
Sources privy to the incident said Israel Dube processed his transfer from Machiva to Panganai Primary School earlier this year and was supposed to assume duty in June, but failed to do so because of the Covid-19 induced lockdown.
He however, managed to process the assumption of duty with the school deputy head but could not move in because schools were closed.
“He went and did the assumption of duty process with the school deputy head but he could not move to this school because of temporary school closure cause by the lockdown. When he finally went to the school, the Head told him that there was no place for him saying it had already been filled by someone who had been referred from head office,” said the source.
The School Head is alleged to have instructed other teachers not to house him and he was left stranded since he had no money to transport his belongings back to Machiva.
“He had no money to take back his belongings; he had to put up at the verandah on one of the houses at teachers’ cottages where he slept for six days with his all his belongings.
“Luckily he had not traveled with his wife and kids since he wanted to settle in first before they come. He was rescued by a delegation of district inspectors who had gone to the school for routine inspections,” said the source.
It is alleged that the Inspectors called Zaka District Schools Inspector (DSI) Samson Chidzurira who then asked them to pack his belongings in their car and accompany him back to Machiva his previous school.
Other sources said the problem started with the centralised recruitment system, which was introduced where all the recruitment processes were done at the head office.
“The recruitment process is now centralised in Harare at the head office, district and provincial offices can only deal with transfers and other related issues. So because of corruption which is prevalent in the process, people from the head office just send people mostly their relatives who would come for only one year probation period before going back to their respective home areas,” said another source.
However, Panganai Primary School Head Sylvia Mangezi refuted allegations that they denied him temporary accommodation saying he was offered one but he refused.
“We did not deny him temporary accommodation. We refereed him to the deputy head’s house who invited him to put up in his house but he refused,” said Mangezi.
When contacted for comment, Zaka DSI Chidzurira said he was not aware that he had been sleeping outside saying he only know that someone referred by the head office had occupied his place and they had to reverse he transfer.
“We had transferred him to that school because of some issues; however, his place was taken by someone who came from head office. So when I learnt about the issue I had to send a car to take him back to Machiva and that is where he is now,” said Chidzurira.

“I just wanted u guys to know that next week my lawyers will be filing for child support from Temba Mliswa. He hasn’t been looking after his children as he claims to people. My 4yr old son bought preparation for Temba’s kids w his savings. Temba Mliswa is an irresponsible parent,” said Mutami.
By Nomusa Garikai- “It is quite clear that several of the sitting and current Chairpersons across ZANU PF Provinces are afraid of a free and fair district and provincial election and are doing everything they can to try and run away from the democratic path by wanting to block all potential challengers,” observed Paul Ndou.
“Is president Mnangagwa going to protect the moribund Chairpersons and move against his trademark campaign signature that “The voice of the People is the voice of God?”
It is the norm for Zanu PF leaders to rig their own party elections just as they have gone to blatantly rig the national elections. It is blasphemous, to say the least, for Mnangagwa to evoke the name of the Lord knowing fully well Zanu PF rigged the 2018 elections and thus the people were blatantly denying a meaningful say in the governance of the country.
There are countless way Zanu PF leaders have rigged elections and one way is to state the election rule, make a big song and dance about it. The opponent will campaign for election within the constrains of the rule. Come the election, the dishonest leader will ignore the rule and go on to win the contest!
Zanu PF made a big song and dance about Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) system to be used in the 2018 elections, for example. Millions of dollars were spent buying the equipment, the UN contributed a staggering US$ 75 million. Come voting day ZEC used the old printed voters’ roll and did not even bother to explain why!
With no verified the printed voters’ roll all the vote rigging shenanigans, justifying the need for the BVR, were allowed back in the process.
Another vote rigging move is to introduce a new rules the very last minute! Mnangagwa was set to win and replace the late Simon Muzenda at the 2004 Zanu PF congress. Mugabe introduced a new party rule the last minute demanding that one of the four top positions in the party must to be a woman. And so Joice Mujuru became the new VP.
Ten years later, 2014, Joice Mujuru was poised to be elected VP in her own right at the party congress. Mugabe accused her of “witchcraft, factionalism” (new crimes never heard of before) and attempting to assassinate Mugabe. She and some of her supporters were booted out of the party. This time it was Mnangagwa who benefited from the Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli shenanigan. The need for at least one female in the Zanu PF presidium was conveniently forgotten.
Zanu PF leaders have no respect for rule of law or the party’s and nation’s laws and constitution. None!
Many Zimbabweans thought the approved the 2013 constitution would restore the rule of law. It failed its first acid test; Zanu PF went on to blatantly rigging the 2013 elections.
The truth is the 2013 constitution was “dictated by Robert Mugabe”, boasted Paul Mangwana, the Zanu PF MP and co-chairperson on the parliamentary committee that drafted the document.
Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends had wasted the five years of the GNU enjoying the trapping of high office, they were desperate to present the new constitution as their achievement. Mugabe, cuckoo style, let MDC claim his dictator’s creed as their own. Morgan Tsvangirai even called the 2013 constitution an “MDC child!”
Zanu PF emerged out of the 2008 to 2013 GNU with all the party’s carte blanche dictatorial powers it had before the GNU. The 2008 elections remain the watershed reference elections in which Zanu PF gave a graphic demonstration of its dictatorial powers.
Morgan Tsvangirai garnered 73% of the popular vote in the March 2008 vote, according to Mugabe’s Freudian slip.Zanu PF stopped the results being made public and spent the next six weeks whittling down the 73% to 47%, enough to force a run-off. In the run-off, Zanu PF unleashed the war veterans, the party’s youth militia, the green bombers, backed by all four of the state security services branches to punish the people for daring to reject the party in the earlier vote.
Mugabe won the June 2008 run-off with a run away 84% of the votes; his victory was never in doubt! The people of Zimbabwe know better than test providence and dare reject Zanu PF ever again, not whilst the party continues to enjoy its dictatorial powers.
Nelson Chamisa and his fellow MDC leaders have no choice but to participate in these flawed and illegal elections they cannot demand the implementation of reforms without admitting they had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the GNU and they sold-out.
Chamisa and company are hoping to be propelled into power on the back of mass street protests and they have been fishing for it at every turn. And meanwhile they have to settle for the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away to entice the opposition to participate.
For their part, Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies need the opposition to participate in the flawed and illegal election to give the process some modicum of credibility and, by extension, give the vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy.
The most important lesson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies have since 2008 is to continue enjoying the party’s dictatorial powers to blatant cheating and to use wanton violence but to be very subtle; they were not subtle in 2008 and were forced into the 2008 to 2013 GNU as a consequence. And making sure the opposition participate in large numbers will secure legitimacy; allowing them to win a few gravy train seats is a small price to pay for legitimacy.
“You have heard about the golden rule, haven’t you?” asked, rhetorically, the evil sorcerer Jafar in Walt Disney’s Aladdin. “He who has the gold makes the rules!”
To paraphrase Jafar, “Zanu PF has the dictatorial power and makes all the rules!”
How long are we going to allow ourselves to live in a Banana Republic ruled by the whims of a dictator?
The idea of participating again and again in an election process so flawed the opposition cannot win even after polling 73% of the votes is the very essence of insanity!

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), organisers of the annual tourism fair, Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo yesterday opened registration for exhibitors for this year’s event.
The 15th edition of the fair will be hosted virtually from October 27 to 29, 2021 owing to the COVID-19-induced restrictions.
Speaking at a Press conference yesterday, acting ZTA chief executive Givemore Chidzidzi said there was optimism that new exhibitors would participate at this year’s event.
“We have taken into account the challenges that the industry has gone through during the past two years and we shall be offering the exhibition platform for registered industry players free of charge,” he said.
“Only those who are interested in enhancing their exhibition through taking 2Definition and 3Definition booths will pay a nominal fee for the booths. We encourage the industry to make use of this opportunity and remain connected to the markets through this platform.”
Chidzidzi said the expo remained relevant despite being held virtually.
“We switched to virtual expos last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and saw the need to embrace the ‘new normal’ as we could not continue to be absent in the various key source markets,” he said.
“We did an online survey and most of our source markets preferred the virtual exhibition due to travel restrictions. Going forward, due to the inoculation exercise underway, we shall be hosting hybrid exhibitions.”
Chidzidzi said Zimbabwe remained connected to the market through various platforms and membership of international associations from key source markets such as Japan Association of Travel Agents, African Travel and Tourism Association, Anerkannte Spezialisten fuer Afrika-Reisen Germany, hence the wider array of quality buyers.
About 190 exhibitors took part in the fair last year, including 29 foreigners.
Lawyers have accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of unlawfully overturning a court ruling which allowed unvaccinated congregants to attend church service by insisting on enforcing the ban.
On August 11, Cabinet allowed churches to reopen only to vaccinated congregants, but the High Court judge Justice David Mangota last week issued interim order setting aside the directive following a challenge by a human rights lawyer Obert Kondogwe.
On Tuesday this week, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa told journalists following a Cabinet meeting that government intended to enforce the ban on unvaccinated churchgoers.
“We must state that the position taken by Cabinet is now in clear violation of the court order issued by the High Court on September 9, 2021,” the lawyers, under the umbrella of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Truth, Health, Justice and Freedom said in a statement.
“The court order was clear that unvaccinated congregants cannot be barred from attending physical church meetings. The position by Cabinet is, in our view, not only unlawful and discriminatory, but bordering on contempt of a court order.”
They also said the announcement by Mutsvangwa was a threat to judicial independence and was inconsistent with the doctrine of separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution.
“We take strong exception to this unlawful and contemptuous position taken by Cabinet and point out that in our law, a litigant who is aggrieved with a court decision must take necessary legal steps against that decision and not seek to undermine the court order or threaten unlawful action against the successful litigant,” the lawyers said.
The Cabinet decision, they said, was a serious danger to justice and the rule of law in the country and conveys a wrong message to all those who uphold constitutionality and constitutionalism.
“We hope that the Cabinet will reflect and withdraw its unlawful contemptuous conduct which is inappropriate and damaging to the interests of Zimbabwe.”
The lawyers are adamant that the High Court order of September 9, 2021, is extant and remains binding on the government and all citizens.
“And as such, the now purported ban on unvaccinated church congregants is of no force or effect,” the lawyers’ statement read.
In the interim relief, the judge said any purported ban on unvaccinated sit-in congregants and any arrest or criminal proceeding of unvaccinated sit-in congregants of churches by the police was unlawful, null and void and of no force and effect and should, therefore, be set aside.
But in her statement, Mutsvangwa disregarded this order insisting that the ban was still in place.
ZAPU and the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (Zipra) veterans yesterday accused the government of “playing games” with its properties seized in the 1980s.
Zipra was the military wing of Zapu during the armed struggle.
Zapu and Zipra have been demanding the release of farms and buildings that were listed as caveats in the title deeds for years, but without success.
Government seized the properties under Unlawful Organisation Act under (Caveat number 15 of 82) alleging that it had discovered arms caches on them precipitating the Gukurahundi mass killings.
Last week, Defence and War Veterans minister Oppah Muchunguri told Parliament that the properties issue was a “legacy issue that is being looked at”, but without giving any timelines when “an amicable solution will be found”.
Sibangilizwe Nkomo, the son of the late Father Zimbabwe, Joshua, said they had had enough of government’s false promises, adding that authorities did not want to release the properties.
“They are just not serious at all. It is very clear that they just do not want, and have never wanted to release those properties. They have never been genuine on this subject. They have the power to ensure the quick return of the properties, but just because they do not want to, they keep dilly-dallying,” Nkomo, who is eyeing the Zapu presidency, said.
John Gazi, the chairperson of Nitram Properties, in an emailed response to Southern Eye, said: “It takes only 48 hours for the caveat to be lifted. We do not want any more speeches, but the return of the properties. We have met President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa on this subject, but there is still no movement despite assurances. This leaves us questioning their seriousness.”
Zipra veterans bought several properties across the country with contributions from their demobilisation payouts.
Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi once said that government would not return the properties because PF Zapu joined Zanu to form Zanu-PF under the Unity Accord of 1987.
But Zapu contends that it pulled out of the Unity Accord when it cut ties with Zanu-PF in 2008.
Former Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko once promised to facilitate the return of the properties, but nothing materialised.
According to a Zapu inventory, the seized properties include farms and hotels, among them Castle Arms in Bulawayo, Green Haven — a huge entertainment facility along Victoria Falls Road — and several residential properties.

The accident occurred around 5.30pm.
When The Herald news crew visited the scene the bodies of the mother and her child had already been moved to a mortuary while that of the commuter omnibus driver was still trapped awaiting the Fire Brigade crew.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident last night.
“I can confirm that an accident involving a Toyota Hiace and a bus contracted to Zupco occurred at the Corner of Chiremba Road and Stoneleigh Road.
“The kombi was coming from town while the bus was coming from Epworth so it is said that the kombi burst a tyre resulting in the collision. It is not known how many passengers were in the kombi.
“The bus had four passengers and among the deceased, was the kombi driver and a 21-year woman and her child,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
By A Correspondent| A few months back, ZimEye caught the ire of land development company, West Properties’ after exposing an archaic and risky home ownership concept which the company offered at one of its housing sites.
The company went ballistic accusing ZimEye and another online news site Pindula of reporting falsehoods while insisting that celebrities Kudzai Violet Gwara better known as KVG and lanky crooner Jah Prayzah would get their title deeds “in due time.”
Popular musician Jah Prayzah has been used by West Properties to advertise Pomona City
Now, West Properties has announced that its Pomona City will be sold using the leasehold concept.
“Pomona City, which has been fittingly described as a city within a city has adopted the leasehold option of land ownership as part of efforts to enable the middle income class to access luxury upmarket housing at affordable prices.
“The leasehold option affords an individual an opportunity to obtain land to build on and construct their dream home without a large capital outlay on the cost of the land. As a result, savings of 90 percent are realised,” said West Properties in an article published in the Daily News.
Leasehold concept has been heavily criticised as an outdated method of home ownership as it does not offer title deeds to an acquired property.
A United Kingdom based property expert, Dr Controlla Gabi criticized West Properties of using a leasehold instead of the modern freehold arrangement.
Gabi said leaseholds were an eternal death trap as a home owner will continue to pay rent on the land their house is built on.
He added that ultimately the price of lease may end up being unaffordable which may mean the household has a high chance of losing the property.
“Leaseholds are an eternal debt trap. Home owners will continue to pay rent on the land their house is built on. It’s been a controversial scheme here in the UK.
“With a leasehold, you’ll always pay rent on the land on which your home is built. There must be an option to buy the land or just rent to buy the land which should give ownership of the land at some point. With no legal protection, land rent will go up or change hands. Uncertainty
“Although unlikely, it is possible that, in a leasehold agreement, the price of the lease may end up being unaffordable. It’s unclear what will happen in such circumstances,” said Gabi.
It has also emerged that Pomona City is disputed land and recently two white people Grant Russell and Mark Sthrathen who are directors of T&C Construction were arrested and charged with criminal nuisance after they erected a billboard along Borrowdale road warning potential home-seekers that the land in question was a subject of court litigation.

Lawyers representing the family of the late former President Robert Mugabe have filed an appeal against a ruling by a magistrate that they could not challenge an order issued by a traditional chief to exhume the remains of Zimbabwe’s founding father for reburial at the National Heroes Acre.
In an application filed on Tuesday at the High Court, Chimwamurombe Legal Practice, representing Mugabe’s children — Bona, Robert Jnr and Bellarmine, said Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo had misdirected herself when she dismissed their appeal.
Last Friday, Moyo ruled that the children had no locus standi to challenge Chief Zvimba’s order to exhume Mugabe’s remains because they were not part of proceedings at the traditional leader’s court. Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Wurayayi Mhondoro, ruled that Mugabe’s remains should be exhumed and buried by July 1, 2021
“The learned magistrate of the court aquo made an error at law and misdirected herself when she dismissed the appeal from the community court after incorrectly and erroneously interpreted section 24 (1) of the Customary Law and Local Courts Act to only allow the right of appeal from a community court to parties that were part of the proceedings before Chief,” the appeal read in part.
Mugabe’s daughter. Bona, is the executor of his estate.
The lawyers want the appeal to be allowed with costs and have the magistrate’s ruling be set aside.
Mugabe died in Singapore in September 2019, two years after his military chiefs removed him from office and his Zanu-PF party replaced him with long-time ally, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The government pushed for Mugabe to be buried at the national shrine but his family said the once feared leader had asked to be buried at his Kutama home. Before his death, Mugabe vowed that he did not want his “tormentors” to lead his funeral.
Construction of a mausoleum to bear his grave is, however, underway at the national shrine where many of Mugabe’s political peers are buried.

By A Correspondent- Over 100 learners from two boarding secondary schools, Chegato and Masese, in Mberengwa District have been hit by Covid-19 leading to the suspension of lessons.
Confirmed Covid-19 cases at Chegato are 63 out of 150 PCR tests done while Masase had 40 positive cases from 469 tests.
Day scholars that tested Covid-19 positive as well as children of staff members have been quarantined in dormitories at the schools that have been converted into isolation and treatment centres.
Lessons for day scholars have also been suspended until the situation is under control.
Mberengwa District Development Coordinator (DCC) Mr Ndeya Nyede said a team had been dispatched to the two schools to conduct more tests.
“There were 63 positive Covid-19 cases at Chegato High School out of 150 tests conducted on teachers and learners at the school.
“At Masase High there were 469 Covid-19 tests and 40 confirmed positive cases. Testing is ongoing, meaning lessons have been temporarily shelved,” said Mr Nyede.
“I was at Masase High School and found them still testing. Efforts have been intensified to mitigate against the spread of the virus,” he said.
He said Government is working on modalities to beef up frontline health workers in the area to attend to the schools and surrounding communities.
“It’s a sad development, but the District Civil Protection Unit has been activated. Frontline health workers are on the ground with more testing kits delivered from Gweru Provincial Hospital yesterday. Testing will continue for the remainder of the students.
“We are planning to beef up our intervention with an additional mobile vaccination team to assist surrounding communities.
“As of yesterday, an additional seven cases were identified, which brings the total to 70 (at Chegato),” said Mr Nyede.
Midlands Provincial Education Director Mr Jameson Machimbira said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and other stakeholders are on the ground working on ways to mitigate against the spread of the outbreak.
“As the Ministry, we are still monitoring the situation to ensure that lessons commence soon,” said Mr Machimbira.
There are reports that most students above the age of 18 and staff members at the two schools are not vaccinated, raising fears of more positive cases being recorded.
Government has since barred all unvaccinated civil servants from reporting for duty.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced the decision in a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare on Tuesday.
“Pursuant to the previous announcement that all civil servants should be vaccinated, Cabinet further resolved that no unvaccinated civil servants will be allowed to come to work,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.
Since the opening of schools, learning institutions have not been demanding vaccination certificates from teachers.
Minister Mutsvangwa said a total of 132 Covid-19 cases had been reported in schools since schools opened for examination classes on August 30 and September 6 for the rest of the learners.
By A Correspondent- Eleven schools across the country were forced to shut down yesterday after a significant number of students tested positive for COVID-19, it has emerged.
This comes as teacher unions claimed that the deadly pandemic was spreading like veldfire in schools since last week, with most of the public learning institutions incapacitated to take critical measures to stop infections.
The teachers are blaming President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration for rushing the reopening of schools without addressing concerns relating to the management of the pandemic, adding that it was only a matter of time before schools became drivers of the deadly fourth wave which health experts have warned of.
It emerged that at least three schools in Mberengwa, Midlands province had to suspend operations after being hit by COVID-19 infections.
Similar developments were reported in Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Masvingo and Matabeleland South provinces where teachers accused the government of ignoring their concerns and pushed them into premature reopening of schools.
“We made it categorically clear without any equivocation or ambiguity that 98% of schools were not ready for opening, but ministry officials claimed they were ready. Just two weeks after opening COVID-19 is spreading like veldfire in schools in Zimbabwe,” Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said.
He said the silence of the government was worrying while the situation was getting out of hand.
“We challenge Cabinet ministers to visit Nyamuka Primary (Manicaland), Kriste Mambo (Manicaland), Tongwe High (Mat South), Neshangwe High (Mashonaland East), Masase High (Midlands), Chegato High (Midlands) and many other schools. Schools are running short of testing kits and in some schools after only testing ‘A’ and ‘O’ Level students. More than 75 have been confirmed positive at one school. Worse still not all ‘A’ and ‘O’ Level students have been tested as schools ran out of testing kits. When we give professional advice, ministry officials must listen rather than make decisions from the comfort of their offices,” he said.
“It is prudent to prioritise the health and safety of teachers and pupils rather than throwing all caution to the wind. There is virtually no COVID-19 abatement equipment in schools, let alone running water. The bloated classes and hostels are a cause for concern, yet medalist in verbal marathon lie through their teeth that schools are ready.”
“Life is more important than lies. Where did the $750 million and another $500 million go to, if students have no COVID-19 abatement equipment in schools? As PTUZ, we called for testing of 140 000 teachers, more than five million pupils and ancillary staff before congregating in schools. But that was ignored.”
“Henceforth, we urge teachers to stop teaching in all schools where COVID-19 cases have been confirmed until further notice. We also urge parents to stop sending their children to such schools until fumigation of the schools and COVID-19 effects are arrested. We also urge government to forthwith provide COVID-19 abatement equipment to all schools in Zimbabwe and stop their homelitic bellicose.”
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) said from its assessments, 11 schools failed to open yesterday after registering cases of COVID-19.
“They were not open for full learning today as they are battling COVID-19 outbreaks,” Artuz president Obert Masaraure told NewsDay yesterday.
“In some areas there are no test kits to test those learners showing symptoms. Schools remain heavily congested with classes of as big as 70 learners in a small room. The majority of our schools do not have running water. In short schools are failing to adhere to standard operating procedures. Our schools will soon be COVID-19 hotspots,” he said.
Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro, however, said schools were safe for teachers and learners and dismissed claims of soaring cases.
“The call is being made by only one anxious leader among over a dozen teachers’ union leaders who are clear on the need to provide inclusive, relevant, equitable, quality and wholesome education for all Zimbabweans and who applaud our scientific surveillance through our standard guidelines for the co-ordinated prevention and management of the COVID-19 pandemic at all learning institutions,” Ndoro said
“He finds himself in a dilemma because not only has no one died from COVID-19 in our schools since we opened but over 90% of teachers are reporting for duty,” he said.
By A Correspondent- A teacher from Zaka will rue the day he decided to transfer to another school, after he was forced to sleep in the open for six days as school head refused to accept him saying his place had already been taken by someone.
So when I learnt about the issue I had to send a car to take him back to Machiva and that is where he is now,” said Chidzurira.-TellZim
“On September 11 at 6pm, 11 accused persons from Methodist Pumula suburb were on patrol after discovering that there was a spate of armed robberies that occurred from January to September in their area. One of the patrol team members Mqondisi Sibanda (39) identified Nyoni, who was also part of the team, as someone who had stolen his cellphone,” Msebele said.
She said Nyoni was pelted with stones as he tried to flee from an angry mob, which was armed with knobkerries, but it gave chase and caught up with him in Magwegwe North and allegedly beat him until he died.
After committing the crime, Msebele said, the 11 fled.
They were later arrested and are expected to appear in court this week.

Residents, however, felt Hitler deserved his fate.
“Anga ashurungudza vanhu, and people wanted to make sure that he is gone.
“People went to see on their own and he was helpless,” said another source.
Well-wishers tried to save him but to no avail.
“He was seen lying on the ground bleeding heavily all over his body. His clothes were wet with blood.
“He had deep injuries on his body.
“The boys who were here ferried him using a wheelbarrow while he was unconscious. They dropped him in front of his parents’ gate.
“He did not last long before he died,” added another source.
His father was reportedly called but did not come since he was drinking beer at Mhishi business centre in Mufakose.
“He was forced by his friends to go home only to find his son dead.
“A police report was made before the body was taken for post mortem.
“The police came at around 9:00pm to guard the dead body while waiting for homicide department.
“They guarded the dead body for the whole night.

“People love stealing and robbing but you die the same way.”
His uncle said:
“He is my nephew but his work was bad, this was really bad, ndomubairo wechivi, ndomagumo azvo.
“He has died a painful death,” he said.
Another resident said Hitler was even a problem to his parents.
“I didn’t know gona ana gona wake, his work was really bad, he even terrorised his parents, anga asingatsiurike, mabasa anotevera munhu.
“This is a warning to his accomplices that fate will follow them, they should learn to work for themselves.”
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has advised the opposition to field polling agents at all polling stations to protect their ballots.
This was said by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission official, Commissioner Joyce Kazembe.
She said parties that do not field polling agents should not complain about rigging.
Comm Kazembe was contributing to a virtual interface with Parliament’s portfolio committee on Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
The interface, which was supported by the Southern African Parliamentary Support Trust was meant to appraise legislators on media regulations.
“There are certain polling stations, which had no polling agents from major opposition parties, but they were raising allegations of rigging. We really do not know the basis of these allegations.
“These polling agents must be present 24 hours, including during counting of votes so that they append their signatures on the results that would be sent to the national command centre here in Harare. So these are allegations. We really do not know where they come from,” said Comm Kazembe.
In 2018, the MDC-Alliance leader, Mr Nelson Chamisa, challenged the Presidential election result.
The MDC-Alliance leader Chamisa launched a constitutional legal challenge against Zanu PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa’s electoral victory.
The Constitutional Court led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba dismissed Chamisa’s challenge.
By A Correspondent- A 41 year old soldier appeared in court yesterday accused of raping his two-year-old daughter.
Paul Saizi pleaded not guilty before Harare magistrate Ignatio Mhene and was remanded to September 16 for defence case.
The court heard that sometime in December last year, the two-year-old child was left in the custody of her father and the maid Urita Makoto.
During that period, Saizi would force oral se_x on his child and rap_ed her on several occasions and after the act, he used to wipe the complainant’s privates using a cloth.
The minor revealed the case to the maid who then made a police report.
The minor testified in camera.
The investigating officer Tafadzwa Rusere from Chinamhora testified as the second witness and told the court that Makoto whose whereabouts are unknown to the police, brought the child to the police station and she described what her father had done to her.
The State led by Shepherd Makonde tendered a medical affidavit that the two-year-old obtained from the hospital and it showed that she had been abused several times and her privates had severe ruptures showing that she had had se_xual intercourse.
By A Correspondent- Former MDC politician Eddie Cross said he does not support MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa because of his young age.
Cross told Alpha Media Holdings chairperson Trevor Ncube on this week’s episode of In Conversation WithTrevor, he still maintained that because of his age can not lead.
“Yeah. Look I think is a sure Chamisa guy but he is still a kid and I’m not sure, I’m not sure…You know the Chinese have a saying “If you are going to ride the tiger you gotta be able to stay on” and I don’t think he had the wisdom and I don’t think he had the maturity. One thing I loved about Morgan Tsvangirai was his heart for the people. [He] never wavered,” he said.
Cross also went on to say that the late MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai did not do a great job as Prime Minister during the Government of National Unity (GNU) era. Cross, however, added that Tsvangirai was still popular with the masses despite not doing a great job as Prime Minister.
Cross said:
I don’t think he did a great job of being Prime Minister. I was disappointed in that but the man himself there is no doubt in my mind that people loved him. You could go with Morgan anywhere in the country and it was just extraordinary. It was a great privilege to work with him and frankly to serve him. It was a real privilege for 17 years.
Cross also criticised Douglas Mwonzora. He revealed that the MDC leadership did not adopt the manifesto he had worked on for the 2018 elections. Eddie Cross said:
But the leadership that is coming up. Mwonzora. Look at the mess. Just look at the mess. I had written the manifesto for the 2018 elections they just ignored it, just brushed it aside. I just thought well “They must get on with it. New generation. Let them go. I’m the past. They are the future.” What’s gonna happen in 2023 I don’t know.
Cross resigned from the MDC and quit politics in August 2018. At the time Cross said his resignation had nothing to do with the ongoing political situation in the country but had been necessitated by his wife’s who had been diagnosed with an ailment he was not at liberty to reveal.
Cross had predicted that Emmerson Mnangagwa would win the July 30 elections. He also declared the harmonised elections as free, fair and credible, saying they were the most democratic since independence in 1980. Since his retirement from politics and the MDC, Cross was a member of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). He also authored, ‘A Life of Sacrifice’, the biography of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance national spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has mocked the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa for getting excited about township donations.
Zanu PF has been presenting low key programmes as proof of resounding success of the so called new dispensation.

Advocate Mahere argued: “We must move away from the politics of “officially opening” basic necessities such as taps, toilets, buses and roads…
These services must be a given for taxpayers. Let’s raise our expectations. Vote for a Govt where serving the people is not exceptional…”
She also paid tribute to health workers who have succumbed to COVID-19 since 2020.
“Today, we join the medical profession in commemorating all the healthcare workers that have passed away due to COVID-19.
We are grateful for their service to communities in these challenging times. Let’s all join the minute of silence at noon.
ZIMBABWEAN companies and domestic consumers are feeling the pinch of high costs of back-up power supply after the national power utility, Zesa, announced a 12-hour load-shedding schedule.
Zesa Holdings’ power distribution subsidiary, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) announced that it will embark on a load-shedding regime while addressing power generation challenges.
ZETDC attributed the fall in power generation to challenges at the Hwange Power Station, limited imports and a dam wall rehabilitation at the Kariba hydroelectric power plant.
The Kariba dam rehabilitation exercise requires two generators to be taken out daily for 12 hours, a process that affects an economy.
The facility was recently upgraded at a cost of US$550 million.
According to statistics from Zesa’s investment vehicle, the country is generating 1 186 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This generation is against the demand of about 2 000MW.
“The power cuts are obviously disruptive to business and they came at an unexpected time because we were of the view that the power supply had stabilised. I think for the past two to three years we have seen some stability,” Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe president Israel Murefu told Weekly Digest our sister publication in a phone interview.
“It reduces capacity to produce because power is what drives industry and if there is no power you cannot produce and if you resort to generators, they are very expensive and I think there are very few companies which have got adequate solar backup to compensate for the loss of electricity. You also need electricity if you are producing at night so it’s very disruptive,” he said.
He urged Zesa to resolve the power shortfalls quickly and to keep industry informed on the load-shedding schedule.
Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries chief executive Sekai Kuvarika said her organisation was currently carrying out a survey to ascertain the extent of the power outages.
However, the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) said companies were feeling the pinch of power outages which are affecting production.
As a result, some companies were relying on back-up power supply such as generators and solar, forcing them to cut costs to afford mitigatory measures.
“We (businesses) are feeling it by companies slowing down recruitment, slowing down in terms of business confidence, slowing down in terms of the capacity to continue producing because, it is grinding when you are not having reliable power 24/7,” ZNCC chief executive Chris Mugaga said.
“Power comes eight hours but the other 16 hours you have no power, so how do you produce? So, members are obviously bemoaning it.”
He added: “The impact is quite palpable for most companies. If this is to continue unabated…that is when they will start thinking who can we scratch?
“Who are we supposed to recruit? And, who are we supposed to push out of the company? How can we cut costs so that at least we run on solar? Which means company costs are increasing for our members.
“Our members are not having any appetite to continue recruiting because already with a skeleton staff we have, and some losing jobs, we cannot afford to go all out to recruit.
“We still have other unintended challenges like the power you are talking about, or water.”
Consumers are also feeling the pinch of power blackouts forcing them to over-stretch their budgets.
In fact, USAid food security arm, Fewsnet says household food stocks are beginning to run low across the country confirming shrinking household incomes.
“Across the suburbs, residents are complaining of prolonged power cuts.
“At household level, most people have been forced to resort to liquefied petroleum gas, they have been forced to buy candles that they had already abandoned, some, who had not purchased the solar systems, are now being forced to prioritise that,” Harare Resident Trust director Precious Shumba said.
“But we are also hearing that refrigerated foods are getting bad and they are counting their losses. And in industry, a lot of the companies have had to kick out workers who are not being productive because of power shortages.
“The situation is really sad as people are narrating their ordeals whereby from 5am they have not had electricity after four or five hours. “The cost of living has gone up about five times in the last four months and this (power outages) continues to drain the little resources.”
He said consumers wanted Energy and Power Development minister Zhemu Soda to quickly address the matter. The power shortages come despite the country having capacity to generate 1 872MW in renewable energy with an active national renewable energy policy launched last year in March to govern the harnessing of this energy. A trustee of a Matabeleland South self-help water cooperative allegedly stole R1 million from the organisation’s bank account in South Africa putting the project into limbo.
At least 400 members of the Amanzi Mat-South Cooperative Society came together with a vision to buy borehole drilling equipment in 2019.
Each member is supposed to contribute about R17 000 towards the project and a consolidated account was opened in South Africa.
While members of the Amanzi Mat-South Cooperative Society were optimistic of procuring rigs, cars and other equipment to propel their vision, one of their South African-based trustees Mr Tshidzani Ncube is alleged to have misappropriated R1,1 million.
He allegedly withdrew the money from the cooperative’s bank account and the theft was only discovered last month.
Amanzi Mat-South Cooperative Society chairman and prominent Bulawayo lawyer Mr Prince Butshe Dube yesterday confirmed that the organisation was dealing with a theft case.
“Without giving a formal statement, what you are referring to is true. I have not been given clearance by the executive. That’s why I was saying if it’s possible you could have contacted me tomorrow so that I seek authorisation because as a new organisation, we would not have prepared for some of these things,” said Mr Dube.
He said investigations are still ongoing to establish how Mr Ncube siphoned the trust funds.
“After we discovered (the theft), the guy went and sought legal advice from a certain law firm here in Bulawayo and they wrote to us stating that he withdrew the money as one of the trustees. I think the guy manipulated the bank system and we suspect that he connived with a bank employee because for any withdrawal there should be three signatories,” he said.
Mr Dube said they were yet to conduct a comprehensive audit but indications are that Mr Ncube withdrew about R1 million.
“His lawyers in fact wrote to us confirming that he took the money,” he said.
Mr Dube said a criminal case is being pursued against Mr Ncube who has committed to paying back the money.
“Our members have tried to report the case and have been to three police stations where they have been moved from one station to another, according to their report. It’s all work in progress. From where I stand, it’s a criminal matter and they will prosecute him obviously, but at least he has made an undertaking to pay back the money. In fact, he has started paying back,” said Mr Dube.
He said the theft of the funds was a major setback to their project meant to provide water to Matabeleland region.- Chronicle

Lesson 12
Memory Text: Jonah 4:11
And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
INTRODUCTION
One of the most interesting stories in Scripture has to be that of Jonah. Here he was, a prophet of God, someone called of God, and yet—what? He ran away from God’s call. Then, after being persuaded in a dramatic way to change his mind and obey the Lord, he did so—but then only to do what? To complain that the people to whom he was called to witness actually repented and were spared the destruction that, otherwise, would have been theirs!
What an example of someone not at rest, not at peace—even to the point where he cried out, “ ‘Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!’ ” (Jon. 4:3, NKJV).
Jesus Himself referred to the story of Jonah, saying: “ ‘The men of Nineveh will rise in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here’ ” (Matt. 12:41, NKJV). Greater than Jonah, indeed! If not, He couldn’t be our Savior.
SABBATH: If Moses is the “humble prophet” & Jeremiah is called the “weeping prophet”, then Jonah is the “restless (“runaway”) prophet.” After Jonah finally witnessed to Nineveh by the hand of God, he got angry that the people repented & was spared God’s wrath. He cried to God that his life might be taken (Jon. 4:3). Jonah depicts a man not at rest. Christ, “greater than Jonah” also preached to us (Matt. 12:41).
SUNDAY: Jonah was a successful missionary. But he was filled with hesitation & doubting. He went the opposite direction from where God called him (Jon. 1). He sought to find his own rest & not that which Christ offers (Matt. 11:30). He failed to reason with God unlike other prophets (Exod. 4:13). He had once spoken for God but dared not enter Nineveh due to fear of the lords there (2 Kings 14:25; 18, Isa. 36).
MONDAY: Prophet Jonah learned his biggest lesson in life in the belly of a great fish; sometimes we have to reach a state where nothing in this world can help us but God. By spending a “forced” 3-day rest in the belly of the big fish, Jonah saw his dependence on God. He prayed & God delivered him (Jon. 2:1-9). He found hope in the “temple” (the heavenly sanctuary) of God (Exod. 15:17; 25:8, Jon. 2:7). God is love!
TUESDAY: Once more, God called on Jonah to witness in Nineveh (a city bigger than any city in Israel). Jonah announced; God will destroy Nineveh in 40 days. As plain & simple as his message was, it fell on receptive ears & they repented. From the king to the lowest servant, all showed their guilt (Jon. 3:1-10). The king’s decree bid the people to afflict themselves & repent (Jon. 3:6; Jer. 25:5; Ezek. 14:6; Rev. 2:5).
WEDNESDAY: Jonah dreaded that he would be called a false prophet when God spared Nineveh for their repentance. He got angry at God (Jon. 4:1-11). Yet, God took time to teach restless Jonah some salient lessons. All men, including men of God like Jonah still have things to learn. He should have been the first to rejoice when Nineveh repented. But he was jealous of his name (PK, p. 271; John. 3:16, Luke 9:51-56).
THURSDAY: The Ninevites needed to hear God’s warning from Jonah, but Jonah needed the missionary trip to be close with God. In the story, Nineveh known for its cruelty didn’t seem to be the problem, but Jonah was. We keep ourselves in the love of God by reaching out to others (Jude 21). We need to show mercy & snatch people from fire (i.e. troubles/eternal death; Jude 20-23). “Love your enemies.”
FRIDAY: For every commission, God has a provision. He who bid Jonah to warn the Ninevites was able to sustain His prophet & grant him success. Jonah would have been spared many bitter experiences if he obeyed without a doubt. Yet, God did not desert him in the hour of despair. In a series of tests & trials, Jonah learned to trust in God. God can reach thousands with a simple message & in a humble way.

Discussion Questions
? A “prophet of God” who was upset that the people God called him to witness to accepted salvation? How are we to understand this attitude on the part of Jonah? What a powerful example of God’s patience with His people, even when they act contrary to the light they have!
? Jonah’s story seems to suggest that God not only is in the business of saving wayward people but also is very interested in transforming His followers. How can we get a “new heart” and a “new spirit,” even if we already know the Lord and the truth for this time? What is the difference between knowing truth and being transformed by it?
? Read the book of Jude again. What is the essential message of the book, and why is that message relevant to us as a church today?
? How does the experience of working for the salvation of others do us so much spiritual good as well?
? Whatever good reasons Jonah had, or thought he had, for not wanting to go to Nineveh, God showed him how wrong he actually was. What attitude might we have toward others that could reflect the same wrong attitude that Jonah displayed?
Mugabe died in Singapore in September 2019, two years after his military chiefs removed him from office and his Zanu PF party replaced him with long-time ally, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
-Newsday
VILLAGERS in Uzumba, Mashonaland East province, are up in arms against a Chinese company, Heijin Mining, whose black granite mining claim covers the entire village.
This was revealed in a letter addressed to Mashonaland East provincial mining commissioner dated September 3, in which Lovemore Kaseke, through the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) is demanding copies of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) certificate and the miner’s prospecting licence.
The letter was copied to the Environmental Management Agency (EMA).
“Our clients are residents of Kaseke village in Uzumba together with his clan, the Kaseke clan. Our client advises that Heijin Mining Company purports to be a holder of mining blocks in Kaseke village and officials from the said mining company and from the ministry have proceeded to peg the whole of our client’s village without consulting our clients,” the letter read.
“Our clients advise that the pegs cover their homesteads, grazing areas and cultivating fields. To that end, we kindly request any prospecting licence that was granted to Heijin Mining Company,” the letter further read.
The invasion of Kaseke village has irked traditional leaders, among them Chief Nyajina, who is encouraging his subjects to resist the takeover of the land.
“In the event that a prospecting licence was granted to Heijin Mining Company, it is our considered view that the pegging of Kaseke village is unlawful in terms of Section 31(1) of the Mines and Minerals Act, a holder of a prospecting licence shall not exercise any of the rights conferred in the licence on communal land without the consent of the occupier. The pegging of Kaseke village without the consultation of occupiers is, therefore, unlawful.”
“Further in terms of section 31(1) of the Mines and Minerals Act, no holder of a prospecting licence can proceed to peg communal land occupied as a village without the written consent of the rural district council of the area concerned,” the letter added.- NewsDay
By A Correspondent- Former MDC politician Eddie Cross said MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora would go nowhere and had messed up the party.
Cross told Alpha Media Holdings chairperson Trevor Ncube on this week’s episode of In Conversation WithTrevor, that Mwonzora killed the party he found intact by ignoring to adopt the manifesto he had worked on for the 2018 elections.
“But the leadership that is coming up.
By A Correspondent- Three people have died and several others injured in a Zupco bus and a commuter omnibus accident in Epworth.
The deceased include a 21-year-old mother and her child.
The accident happened after the commuter omnibus burst its front tyre and collided with a Munhenzva bus under the Zupco franchise near Chan’s Shops along Chiremba Road in Hatfield, Harare, Tuesday evening.
When The Herald news crew visited the scene, the bodies of the mother and her child had already been moved to a mortuary while that of the commuter omnibus driver was still trapped awaiting the Fire Brigade crew.
By A Correspondent- Former MDC politician Eddie Cross said he does not support MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa because of his age.

Zimbabwean youngster Jimiel Chikukwa is on the verge of joining English Premier League club Watford on a free transfer.
The 18-year was released by Leeds in June, along with fellow countryman Ethan Kachosa, following the end of his two-year scholarship.
Kachosa has since signed a professional contract with Sunderland.
According to English outlet Football Insider, Chikukwa underwent a successful trial stint before he was offered a deal at the Vicarage Road. He has agreed to the terms and is set to complete a move this month.
And Leeds would not be entitled to any compensation in the transfer.
The deal, meanwhile, comes after the Zimbabwean youngster also had a trial at Huddersfield Town over the summer. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Benni McCarthy’s arrival at AmaZulu last season was met with wild cheers by those affiliated to the club.
Usuthu signed the former Bafana Bafana striker in December 2020 and the move instantly paid dividends.
His arrival catapulted the Durban-based side from relegation candidates to league title contenders in a remarkable five months.
They eventually finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns and McCarthy was deservedly-named coach of the season.
Despite all that success last season, things have not gone well him this campaign.
In a season they were expected to show their title credentials in the DStv Premiership and do well in the CAF Champions League, Usuthu have fired blanks in both competitions.
So misfiring have been Benni’s charges that they have scored just one goal in the last five matches in all competitions.
In fact, prior to yesterday’s goalless draw with SuperSport United, Usuthu had won only one of their last eight matches.
They have won none of their opening three league games and are 15th of the 16-team table.
The sudden change of fortunes have left McCarthy frustrated.
He described his troops’ 0-1 home loss to Kalisto Pasuwa’s Nyasa Big Bullets in the Champions League as a ‘horror show’.
An incensed Benni even shouted “shut up you” to a celebrating Bullets player during the coach’s post-match interview.
In yesterday’s draw with SuperSport, Benni had a heated exchange of words with Zimbabwean coach.
“You have lost every bit of respect I had for you. That’s why you are broke,” McCarthy could be heard yelling at Tembo.
He even blamed the match officials for the goalless stalemate.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
TWENTY-nine passengers escaped death by a whisker after a bus they were travelling in caught fire near Mutoko business centre in Mashonaland East on Monday.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident and urged drivers to ensure their buses are in good condition before travelling.

One yr later the State hs bn procrastinating on prosecuting me for ‘inciting the overthrow of ZANU PF.’
Today I am in Court 14 for trial that never is.”
Hon Sikhala added: “Joined by @ceechimbiri2 and @JoanaMamombe at Court giving each other solidarity on the incessant persecution we have suffered at the hands of the Emmerson Mnangagwa regime when others are busy giving happy birthday messages to that evil man.
The State seeking postponement again of my trial on the grounds that the docket and the exhibits have been returned 2 the police. We will persevere and we will triumph…”

Harare residents have fingered the Minister of Local Government as the major player fueling and causing confusion at City of Harare. This emerged at a Star FM Radio Program held yesterday night.
One of the callers during the program alleged that the chaos of having “two” Mayors at the local authority was a deliberate ploy to destroy Harare with the intention to justify replacing the remaining elected councils with an appointed commission.
“As residents we know that the chaos is being caused by the Minister and his intention is to put a commission to run the council,” said the caller.
On the suspension and returning of Jacob Mafume as the Mayor of Harare, residents supported the actions by Mayor Jacob Mafume of returning to work citing that the Minister of Local Government has failed to deal with the suspension in accordance with the law.
“A person is suspended at a given time and it is anticipated that before that time lapses the case must be dealt with and cleared and one must come back to work if nothing happens and Mafume’s decision to come back at Town house is very correct”, said another caller.
Section 278(2) of the Constitution states that “an Act of Parliament must provide for the establishment of an independent tribunal to exercise the function of removing from office mayors, chairpersons and councillors.”
The Local Government Amendment Laws of 2016, Section 114 (4) provides for procedures of removal of Mayors and Councillors and calls on the Minister to cause establishment of an independent tribunal within 45 days after the suspension of the Mayor or Councillor.
The residents who participated via voice calls on the Radio Program were in unison arguing that no person can be suspended indefinitely as this was unlawful.
Yesterday Mayor Jacob Mafume presided over a physical Full Council Meeting at Town House that was constituted by councilors and senior Council Management.
However, Councilor Mutizwa, the Acting Mayor, remained adamant that he was the Mayor for the City.
“The situation at Town house remains the same, I remain the Mayor for Harare even though Councilor Mafume is there and proceed to chair the full council meeting which is against government directive” said Mutizwa.
Mayor Mafume was suspended last year in November on allegations of corruption but no disciplinary measures or tribunal was set in accordance with the law to deal with the matter.
CHRA calls for speedy and implementation of devolution as provided by Chapter 14 of the Constitution, reform of all local government laws and depoliticisation of service delivery.
By A Correspondent- Former Manicaland Provincial Minister Mandiitawepi Mandi Chimene has said that she is back in Zimbabwe from exile.
She was one of the people who staunchly opposed then-Vice President, Emmerson Mnangagwa whom she and other ZANU PF members accused of leading a faction to replace the late Robert Mugabe.
Chimene fled from Zimbabwe following the ouster of former President Robert Mugabe in November 2017.
In a tweet, Chimene asked Zimbabweans to help her thank Mnangagwa for forgiving her. She wrote:
Home sweet Home. Help me thank Leadership Help me thank President @edmnangagwa for being a forgiving and empathetic leader. Help me thank my children for electing to stand with me for taking this decision Help me thank the ever-loving Manicaland cdes. Thank you Lord for that!
Earlier this week, exiled politician Professor Jonathan Moyo said Chimene’s account was a ghost account that is part of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO)’s ‘deadly Twitter bots campaign’. In a long thread on Twitter, Moyo said:
THE OPERATION’S massive ghost accounts & bots are infrastructured by Chinese hardware & Israeli software. The accounts, some created over the last three years & most over the last three months–like @ChimeneMandi–generate vitriolic content for likes, retweets etc by bots!
The allegation was dismissed by Chimene’s account which wrote:
How things change. This man brags saying I call her bhudi bt he attacks me daily becoz I refused to join the @nelsonchamisa led mdc ahead of 2018 elections. Right now he is no longer on talking terms with ana @Hon_Kasukuwere because they refused to endorse zvaanenge adyira mari.
Earlier this week Daily News reported that Chimene was preparing to return home
By A Correspondent- A drug smuggler fainted on Tuesday after she was jailed for 12 years by a Harare court.
South African Shila Khumalo swallowed 60 balls of cocaine wrapped in plastic as she travelled from Brazil to Zimbabwe in May.
The contraband was valued at Z$7,8 million (about US$90,000).
Medics were called into the courtroom on Tuesday after Khumalo collapsed in the dock as chief magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi handed her a 12-year prison sentence. She will serve 10 years after 24 months were conditionally suspended.
The court heard that on May 9, Zimbabwean airport authorities were alerted that Khumalo was smuggling cocaine and would arrive at RGM International Airport the following day on an Ethiopian Airways flight.
On May 10, acting on the information, a team of detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, operatives from the Central Intelligence Organisation and agents from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority intercepted her when she landed.
A luggage and body search was conducted leading to the recovery of 53 plastic-wrapped cocaine balls stashed in a pair of black socks and concealed in her panties which she was wearing.
An X-Ray examination revealed that she had ingested another 60 balls of the dangerous drug. Her trial was delayed as police waited for her to excrete all the contraband.
Prosecutors said Khumalo is linked to a drug syndicate operating out of Harare whose members are still at large as they called for an exemplary sentence.
There is no sign of resting and tiring for Zimbabwe’s music light in the diaspora, an author and a storyteller, a cultural ambassador and traditional encyclopedia- Luckson Chikutu popularly known as Manluckerz.

This year, the musician has lined up several shows scheduled for September 25 and November 27.
“The September 25 show has been organized by kulturernas Karneval in Uppsala. It’s one of the biggest festivals,” said the soft spoken musician.
The show will be held at Engelska Parken Uppsala in Sweden.
Manluckerz is also part of a marathon project arranged by Sensus and Gottsunda Kulturhus.
The project is starting this Saturday with different artistes and Manluckerz will be performing on November 27.
He has another thrilling show lined up on November 14 in Hagaby Uppsala.
So what to expect when the man takes to the stage?
Together with his band the Zimbabwe Traditional Unity, the energetic singer is known to capture the heart of many with his Shona lyrics.
To his credit, Manluckerz who is very fluent in English and Swedish has chosen to sing his songs in his native Shona language.
The Shona folklore songs are proving to be popular in Sweden thanks to the singer who has chosen not to forsake his roots.
So dear is the African culture to the singer that he conducts dancing and cultural workshops on the continent’s tradition in Swedish schools.
For more than twenty-years Manluckerz has been one of the most consistent artistes who have kept the Zimbabwean flag high despite the challenges the country is facing.
By A Correspondent- Leader of the opposition, Labour Economist Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) party Linda Tsungirirai Masarira and co applicants have taken the government to court in their quest to end child marriages.
They are seeking an order compelling the alignment of the Marriages Act Chapter 5:11, the Customary Marriages Act Chapter 5:07 and Section 70 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act chapter 9:27 with section 78 (1) as read with section 81 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and section 15 of the General Law Amendment Act Chapter 8:07.
Masarira and co-applicants, Precious Musarurwa and Munyaradzi Midzi filed the application at the Constitutional Court in Harare on Wednesday citing Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe, Women Affairs Minister Sithembiso Nyoni Attorney General, Johane Marange Apostolic Church and High Priest Noah Taguta as first to sixth respondents respectively.
They said their application was for direct access to the constitutional court on the matter of aligning laws in their quest to end child marriages, sex exploitation and abuse.
“Section 2 (1) of Amendment No.20 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe is promulgated on the tramping sense of the Constitution as the supreme law of the land,” read their application.
“More so, in terms of section 78 (1) and (2), the Constitution provides for the legal age for marrying and that this must be done out of free will. The law states that every person who has attained the age of eighteen years has the right to found a family and that no person may be compelled to be married against their will.”
They noted that it is not worthy that the Zimbabwean marriage laws …are inconsistent with the supreme law of the land as evidenced by section 20 (2) of the aforementioned Act which provides for the conditions for marrying minors.
“The Act provides that the marriage of a minor shall not be solemnized without the consent in writing of the persons who are, at the time of the proposed marriage, the legal guardians of such minor or, where a minor has only one legal guardian, without the consent in writing of such legal guardian: Provided that-i) if the consent of any legal guardian cannot be obtained by reason of absence or inaccessibility or by reason of his being under any disability, a judge of the High Court may grant consent to the marriage, and the consent of the judge so given shall have the same effect as if it had been given by the legal guardian whose consent cannot be obtained,” read the application.
“If any legal guardian refuses his consent, a judge of the High Court may grant consent to the marriage, and the consent of the judge so given shall have the same effect as if it had been given by the legal guardian whose consent is refused.”
Masarisa said Section 22 of the Act differentiate the age of marriage for girls as it states that (1) no boy under the age of eighteen years and no girl under the age of sixteen years shall be capable of contracting a valid marriage except with the written permission of the Minister, which he may grant in any particular case in which he considers such marriage desirable.
She said this is Provided that – (i) such permission shall not relieve the parties to the proposed marriage from the obligation to comply with all other requirements of this Act
“In essence, the marriage laws prior to the Marriages Act are inconsistent because it legalizes marriage of sixteen year old girl children as opposed to boys. Moreover, consent for the marriage is sought from another person other than the girl child hence, negating the freedom of will for a girl child to marry out of their will. In this respect, the aforementioned provisions of the Marriages Act [Chapter 5:11] must be repealed because they are invalid to the extent of their inconsistency,” she submitted.
“Articulating further, the Customary Marriages Act [Chapter 5:07] prohibited pledging of girls and women in section 11… Therefore, marriage must be done out of free will. We pray for the alignment of laws to protect the girl child and for section 70 of the criminal law to be declared inconsistent and revoked.”
The respondents are yet to file opposition to the application.
By Temba Mliswa| Recently I moved a motion in Parliament to debate the Constitution’s section 129K. It is the part responsible for the incessant recalling of elected members. However it was disturbing and unfortunate that only myself and Hon Mushoriwa had the guts to debate it.
I expected @mdczimbabwe legislators whose compatriots have been impacted most by this piece to take part in this possible solution to their problem. They did not. Neither did @ZANUPF_Official members. It’s very disturbing how the members cannot stand up against this.
As an independent the section has no relevance for me. However it has for them. Their docility warrants that there be no mercy for their plight. They should have been some resolve on their part. They have shown none and I will close the debate in Parliament.
My push is for changes to this section so that parties don’t have unilateral powers to recall. Citizens should be involved with a 2/3 majority required and court approval. Members should not be sitting ducks but should have opportunities to respond to requests for recalls.
The Constitutional Court must have the final say if a party wants to recall a legislator. Imagine how many recalls have been done under S129(1)K and the amount of money wasted. It’s a waste of taxpayers money which could have gone to various other developmental programs.
Now we have a situation where the section is being abused and used against legislators over petty differences. Even personal reasons can be the reason for recalling an elected leader and the electorate can do nothing. It’s wrong.
Passengers Association of Zimbabwe was deeply saddened by the loss which emanated from a shooting which happened in Dzivarasekwa where a bus conductor lost her life due to unknown circumstances.
We strongly condone such kind of behaviour. We advice fellow passengers to address any misunderstanding amicably and desist from the use of force, if it happens there are any misunderstandings.
Passengers Association of Zimbabwe disassociate itself from such members of the public who take the law into their hands. The law must take it’s course to apprehend those who cause agony and strife among the peace loving citizens.
We appeal to members of the public with any leads to report to their nearest police station information related to this canary behaviour.
There was drama at the Beitbridge Magistrates Court yesterday when a juvenile murder suspect bolted from the courtroom and took to his heels before he was charged.
The suspect, aged 17, duped a police officer escorting him into believing that he wanted to answer to the call of nature and fled afterwards.
He was supposed to be arraigned on allegations of stabbing to death a 23-year-old drinking mate for spilling his beer in Makakavhule village.
The juvenile left the court stunned when he outpaced a pursuing policeman.
“He was fast, like a flash he left through the court gate and disappeared into the houses around and away,” a witness, who watched the spectacle, said.
He was supposed to be charged earlier, but procedurally Department of Social Welfare officers had to be at the court together with his relatives.
Some officials said when his aunt and Welfare Department officers arrived, he quickly put his plan into action.
Police with sniffer dogs were dispatched to comb the area, but he had made good his escape and was last seen on the banks of the Limpopo River.
Efforts to get comment from Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena were fruitless as her phone rang unanswered.
MY wife is having an affair with a man from her village.”
These are the words of a divorce-seeking husband who has had enough.
A Nigerian man, whose age has not been identified, approached the Igando Customary Court in Lagos in a bid to dissolve his 33-year-old marriage.
According to Premium Times Nigeria, the man told the court on Wednesday, 8 September, that his wife had abandoned him and their children for 10 years. He also accused her of infidelity.
“She deserted her matrimonial home to an unknown destination for 10 years. She just returned in 2020,” he told the court.
In her response, the 57-year-old wife claimed her husband was an unrepentant adul_terer who had slept with her sister and friends.
The publication reports that the woman accused her husband of being a serial womaniser who once abandoned her with their seven kids and moved in with his nyatsi.
“He lives with me in the house I single-handedly built, eats my food, drinks my water and still frustrates my life.
“If my husband insists on divorcing me, he should be ready to move out of my house,” she said.
After listening to both parties, the judge pleaded with the couple to maintain peace, and adjourned the case until 21 September.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has appointed Army Major (Rtd) Utoile Silaigwana as its substantive chief elections officer (CEO).
Silaigwana, who has been the target for vilification by opposition parties for his perceived inclination towards the ruling Zanu PF party, has been acting CEO since the departure of Constance Chigwamba in March 2018.
Zec chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba announced Silaigwana’s promotion in a statement yesterday.
“Zec is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr Utoile Silaigwana substantive chief elections officer with effect from July 1, 2019,” Chigumba said.
According to the country’s labour laws, this effectively means Silaigwana is owed huge amounts of money by the quasi-governmental entity because his appointment is backdated to two years.
The retired army officer has a long history of running contested elections in the country since the era of the late former President Robert Mugabe.
But Chigumba, nevertheless, waxed lyrical about Silaigwana’s appointment.
“Mr Silaigwana has 17 years experience in elections management, having served in the Electoral Supervisory Commission between 2002 and 2005 as a provincial co-ordinator. He rose through the ranks to become the deputy chief elections officer in charge of civic and voter education between 2003 and 2004,” Chigumba said.
At the inception of Zec in 2005, Silaigwana was seconded from the army to serve as director for voter education and public relations. He was appointed deputy chief elections officer in charge of operations in 2007.
Businessman Conrad Mwanza has pledged to pay former Warriors skipper Bruce Grobbelaar’s salary for a year if the veteran is appointed Zimbabwe senior men’s national soccer team coach.
Mwanza made the remarks following the sacking of Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic by the ZimbabweFootball Association (ZIFA). Grobbelaar’s name has emerged among potential candidates for the vacant Warriors post along with bookies favorite Norman Mapeza and Taurai Mangwiro, among others.
Mwanza is the founder of Zimbabwe Achievers Awards and Managing Director of CMG International Media Group, and made the pledge on behalf of his business colleagues whom he says are willing to meet Grobbelaar’s annual salary.
“I believe Zimbabwe has an immense talent pool to choose from and our players have the potential to reach dizzy heights. I am throwing my weight behind Bruce, together with some business colleagues, to pay his salary for a year, should he be appointed coach,” said Mwanza.
“We have witnessed his work behind the scenes and his pedigree is undoubted so naturally we are willing to back Bruce for the hot seat and bring stability.”
Bruce Grobbelaar is one of the most decorated footballers from Africa, winning multiple titles including the European Cup with Liverpool and capped for the national team.
Affectionately known as, The Jungleman, Grobbelaar recently made the news when he hinted that he could help ZIFA with accessing the diaspora based talent pool, which has often been a topical issue.
The giant former goalkeeper has also openly expressed his interest in the Warriors top job. The Warriors are currently winless after two games in their quest to qualify for their maiden World Cup appearance.
The football fraternity waits to see who gets the post as ZIFA ponder their next appointment for the Warriors hot seat either in an interim or substantive capacity.
Grobbelaar was a dominant figure in the successful Liverpool side of the 80’s and went into coaching after retirement, managing clubs such as Hellenic, Manning Rangers and Umtata Bush Bucks, among others, as well as a stint with Zimbabwe.
HARARE magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro yesterday insisted on presiding over trial of journalist Hopewell Chin’ono after dismissing his application for her recusal from the matter.
Muchuchuti-Guwuriro ruled that justice delayed was justice denied, hence trial should commence.
The magistrate also ruled that there was no High Court order barring her from presiding over the trial. Chin’ono’s trial is expected to start on October 19 this year. The journalist, through his lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, on Monday alleged that Muchuchuti-Guwuriro had prejudged him.
The lawyer said it would be unfair for Muchuchuti-Guwuriro to preside over Chin’ono’s trial as she had pre-determined his fate.
Chin’ono is being accused of inciting the public to commit violence after he retweeted a post by Transform Zimbabwe president Jacob Ngarivhume calling for anti-government protests last July.
The State had told the court that it was ready for trial, but Mtetwa objected, saying she had another matter at the High Court.
Harare-based entrepreneur Kuda Musasiwa has come out in defence of popular musician Jah Prayzah following allegations made by politician and independent MP Temba Mliswa that the musician was bedding married women.
Mliswa made the accusation in a tweet yesterday, threatening Jah Prayzah with evidence. It is not clear what ignited the accusation. In a short thread Mliswa said:
@jahprayzah you need to stop the habit of sleeping around with married women or women engaged to other men, on the promise that you will take care of them and their children. That’s a very bad habit. Unoita vana vatambure zvisina basa and unozvishoresa.
It has become your practice and as someone whose music I enjoyed very much this habit of yours is very unfortunate and pathetic. You are bringing confusion into people’s lives. Kana une nharo nazvo taura ndikubvisire maV11.
We are not pained by your success but this habit of yours is wrong. Handidi kutaura zvakawanda and will stop there unless you need the evidence.
In response, Musasiwa came in defence of Jah Prayzah saying what the musician does with consenting adults is his and their business suggesting that Temba Mliswa should not have threatened to expose the musician.
Kuda Musasiwa tweeted:
I think @jahprayzah is a good looking dude. What he does with consenting adults is his and their business!? No? Democracy people.
A majority of Twitter users who replied to Musasiwa’s view did not agree with him.
Jah Prayzah is yet to respond to the allegations made by Mliswa.
Police in Harare are holding a security guard after a 22-year-old woman bus conductor was shot dead in Dzivarasekwa on Monday night.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi named the suspected killer as Campion Marowa, 35, who works for as security firm in Harare.
He said police had recovered a 38 Astra Revolver allegedly used in the shooting.
Joyce Kuzhumbwa, who had been working for the ZUPCO-franchised Lofombo bus since July 1, was moments from knocking off for the day when she was murdered at Kadada shops in Dzivarasekwa 4 at around 9PM.
Police believe Marowa was the last passenger, and that he killed Kuzhumbwa after she refused to hand over cash.
Kuzhumbwa’s employer Jeremiah Hove said: “The driver went to the ZUPCO depot saying he had finished work but he was told to go back and ferry people to Dzivarasekwa.
“He then drove to Dzivarasekwa dropping off passengers and when he reached Dzivarasekwa 4 shops the bus was left with four people, one woman and three men. Upon reaching the shops, the driver was writing in his log book when he heard the conductor screaming from the back.
“As he looked back to see what was taking place he heard a gunshot. He ran away and waited from a distance.”
The driver had not been able to give further details, except that some of the money grabbed from the conductor was left on the ground.
By A Correspondent- A man from Bulawayo allegedly assaulted his wife before his mother following a heated argument in which he was accusing her of not respecting him as her husband.
This was after his wife reminded him that he should not forget to buy locks for their house in the rural areas.
This was heard when Tinaye Murehwa (37) from Mzilikazi suburb appeared before the court charged with physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.
Murehwa was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to 23 September 2021 on $6 000 bail.
Allegations are that on 9 September 2021 at around 8.30 pm Murehwa’s wife Patience Ncube (31) was at home with the accused’s mother. When Murehwa arrived, the complainant reminded him that he had to buy locks for their house in the rural area and give them to his mother who was going there the following day.
This, however, reportedly didn’t go down well with Murehwa and he started shouting at Ncube saying as a wife she should not tell him what to do.
In a fit of rage, Murehwa reportedly assaulted his wife with fists all over the body before he violently kicked her on the lower abdomen where she was recently operated on.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Murehwa’s arrest.
By Paul Ndou| Whilst it has been the norm that political parties hold internal elections periodically in a bid to rejuvenate structures and remain up to date, the current and pending ZANU PF district and provincial restructuring exercise has brought in new political dimensions, jostling and name-dropping never seen before. The fissures which have been opened by bigwigs trying to hide away from an open election have led several neutral observers to want to probe what exactly the internal elections hold for the party as several articles have been thrown in the media fraternity with the aim of discrediting would be potential contenders.
Whilst this has been common with many elections, the most peculiar anomaly observed by the writer is the deliberate ploy by several sitting Chairpersons to try and hide away from the truth that ZANU PF is not individuals but a well-knit system that is deeply embedded in the people. The rise to fame by some chairpersons and personalities through the powerful and irresistible ZANU PF brand famously known as the second republic represented by HE Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has resulted in some overrating their relevance in the ZANU PF political game thus fooling themselves into believing that they are now the system themselves. This is fundamentally wrong and misplaced as several of the chairpersons were voted into office simply because they were representing a formidable and deterrent brand (ED Mnangagwa) not to be equated to anyone regardless of their political stamina. In modern politics, politicians ought to honor the systems that put them into power and respect the people that represent those systems as these will always come back to haunt them if you abandon them. This phenomenon has been witnessed recently in various provinces and chief among them is Masvingo province.
It is quite disappointing that most of the chairpersons are yet to master the art of making sure you keep the system intact and endeavor to keep the status quo as such. President ED Mnangagwa seems to have mastered this art as he has made sure that all those that fought the battle with him were rewarded awesomely with key positions and portfolios in the current system and government. It is now very clear that the majority of the current ZANU PF chairpersons are no longer popular with the electorate and there is a strong belief that the extreme name-dropping and mudslinging involving HE Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vice President Cde Constantine Chiwenga, Minister of State Security and ZANU PF National Secretary for Security, Cde Lovemore Matuke and several other key stakeholders and institutions such as ZACC seen so far suggest that there is a serious security threat in Zimbabwe. There are several questions that need to be asked from the articles seen by the writer and these articles include one by Zim Eye reading “Is Chadzamira’s Team Bholato Faction Crumbling” dated 13 September 2021.
From the article, the writer has made the following key observations. 1. The under fire ZANU PF chairpersons have resorted to extreme name-dropping and mudslinging as an old trick for survival. The dragging in of HE Cde ED Mnangagwa and his Vice President Rtd General Constantine Chiwenga together with several key people such as politburo members and ministers as witnessed in Masvingo and Midlands province has been something the majority of ZANU PF members could not fathom. Cde Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira of Masvingo province has been topping on name dropping as it is now almost apparently clear to everyone that he is very divisive and seems to thrive on a divided presidium and one is left asking what immediate benefits he would obtain from such a disjoined presidium. After successfully devouring apart Masvingo province, it seems Chadzamira is teaming up with other likeminded colleagues from other provinces to try and create fissures in the sacred presidium in the same way he did to Masvingo Province. As once put by great philosophers, great leaders are progressive and would seek to progress up to actualization and ne would wonder why Chadzamira and his clique would want to cling on to the chairmanship of the province? What does these Cdes want to achieve in doing so?

The second issue observed by the writer is that it is quite clear that several of the sitting and current Chairpersons across ZANU PF Provinces are afraid of a free and fair district and provincial election and are doing everything they can to try and run away from the democratic path by wanting to block all potential challengers. In Masvingo province, anyone seen to be wanting to oppose Chadzamira is labelled as a sell out and given the tag VP Chiwenga’s project. However, it is critical that we refer back to the system once touched on earlier on. If the same system and its people that catapulted the likes of Chadzamira to the chairmanship is no longer happy with him, who else should blame and why would you resort to childish name dropping since these are the very key people and system that was responsible for your rise? What have you done to force people to publicly denounce your chairmanship? If these people were once behind you, why are they now against you? Why is Chadzamira and his cronies dragging every influential member like politburo members and ministers? Did these chairpersons realize that stealing from the masses will not complete the puzzle if they are no longer Chairpersons? If these sitting provincial chairpersons across the country’s ten provinces did good things to the people during their tenure, why are they afraid of being challenged by fresh candidates as this has been happening ever since ZANU PF’s formation? Is it that they know very well that their political career will be in tatters if a free and fair credible district and provincial election is held? Go back to the battle ground and win elections if you are still very popular.
3. It is quite clear that some ZANU PF chairpersons have forgotten that the loyalty of a province is not enshrined in individuals but in the people of a province. In politics, leaders come and go and this is the reason why we had such stalwarts and kingpins in the late Cdes Shuvai Mahofa “Chikoforo” and Stan Mudhenge who were famously and solidly behind HE Cde ED Mnangagwa, they left but the system kept moving on. The notion that Chadzamira is the only one loyal to HE president Mnangagwa is therefore mere hallucination as the loyalty of the province lies with the system and the same system is the one which propped Chadzamira to the top. The same system wants him off their throne and he cries foul. 4. The fourth issue observed by the writer is the report emanating from meetings said to have been convened in Masvingo and the recent events of a Masvingo PEC meeting reported to have happened two days ago. In the Zim Eye article of 13 September 2021 titled “Is Chadzamira’s Team Bholato faction crumbling”, and I quote “party stalwarts held a secret meeting in Gutu District…” In a related article headlined “New Centre of power emerges in ZANU PF to push ED out” which the writer attributes to Team Bholato of Masvingo province due to its finer details, there are details reporting that the majority of the 26 legislators from Masvingo Province have teamed up against Chadzamira. In another report obtained by this publication from the recently held Masvingo PEC, impeccable evidence revealed that the PEC unanimously endorsed the exit and or imminent departure of Chadzamira as Masvingo provincial Chairperson in his presence.
It is reported that he was told point blank that they no longer supported his candidature for the Chairmanship for several reasons. Fundamental questions arise thereof: If the majority of PEC members, Legislators, Central committee, politburo members and the people of Masvingo Province are no longer supporting Chadzamira, why then does he want to keep clinging on the chairmanship? Given this scenario, can Chadzamira alone and a very small clique which he sponsors be worthier than the entire province which is now against him? What has made Chadzamira and his other Chairpersons so unpopular amongst their people? One will be reminded of the popular “toitasei nevanhu veMasvingo clip” of the elderly ZANU PF cadres complaining that Chadzamira was destroying the party.
Finally, if the people have publicly said they no longer want some chairpersons as is the case with Chadzamira of Masvingo province, is president Mnangagwa going to protect the moribund Chairpersons and move against his trademark campaign signature that “The voice of the People is the voice of God?” Conclusively, if politics is a game of numbers and numbers why doesn’t president ED Mnangagwa challenge his purported cronies like Chadzamira to try and call only a third of the PEC and PCC quorum to see if he surely has the people?
By Patrick Guramatunhu- Health care, education and everything else affecting the ordinary people have been neglected by Robert Mugabe and now by Emmerson Mnangagwa and the consequences are there for all to see, especially now with the corona virus pandemic.
“As Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) we made it categorically clear without any equivocation or ambiguity that 98% of schools were not ready for opening but Ministry Officials claimed they were ready. Just two weeks after opening COVID 19 is spreading like wild fire in Schools in Zimbabwe. Where is the propagandist Taungana Ndoro, where is Hon Cain Matema, where is Mrs Thabela. Lies have short legs,” wrote Dr Takavafira M Zhou, President of PTUZ.
When Mugabe came into power in 1980 he was convinced he was God Almighty’s best gift ever to mankind and everything he touches will turn to gold. So when he preached about his mass prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhinji!” as he never tired of saying it, it was no sooner said than done. Most notably, he started spending big, really big!
Mr Big Spender was cocksure he was spending the nation to prosperity but was in fact doing the exact opposite. When he was finally convinced his scientific socialism was not working – no one would give him any more loan – and was forced to go ease on the spending he chose to cut spending of the soft targets but whilst the ruling elite continued to spend as if there was no tomorrow! Needless to say the economic decline continued.
When Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe following the November 2017 military coup, he hit the ground running, so to speak. He proclaimed from the rooftops “Zimbabwe is open for business!”
Other than the musical chairs that saw Mugabe and a few of his buddies booted out and Mnangagwa proclaiming the post Mugabe era a “Second Republic, a New dispensation” nothing had changed. The country was still a Banana Republic ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs.
In short, there was no flood of investors in answer to his rooftop proclamation; investors are a shrewd lot they could see Zimbabwe had not change, it was still a Banana Republic. And so the big influx of investment to kick start the economy never materialised.
Mnangagwa did not dare cut the extravagant spending of the ruling elite; his continued hold on power dependent on their loyalty and cut their access to wealth and their loyalty will quickly disappear like morning mist! And so Mnangagwa, just like Mugabe before him, looked for the soft target to cut – health care, education and all those things affecting the poor and politically powerless.
It comes as no surprise at all that the government has reopened school without without making adequate provision even for something as basic as corona virus test kits and, for many school, not even running water.
“We challenge Cabinet Ministers to visit Nyamuka Primary (Manicaland), Kriste Mambo (Manicaland), Tongwe High ( Mat South), Neshangwe High (Mashonaland East), Masase High (Midlands), Chegato High (Midlands) and many other schools. Schools are running short of testing kits and in some schools after only testing ‘A’ and ‘O’ level students, more that 75 have been confirmed positive at one school. Worse still not all ‘A’ and ‘O’ level students have been tested as schools ran out of testing kits,” continued Dr Zhou.
“There is virtually no covid abatement equipment in schools, let alone running water. The bloated classes and hostels are a cause for concern, yet medalist in verbal marathon lie through their teeth that schools are ready.”
As a rule of thumb, corona virus is not so prevalent among those below 20 years of aged. The fact that there are so many students catching the virus may be because these school have become corona virus hotspots and many are succumbing because their systems are overwhelmed.
11 schools in Zimbabwe have so far been forced to close because the number of corona virus cases were too high for normal schooling to continue.
We know this Zanu PF government is obsessed with appearance and does not care about substance. The country’s official covid 19 cases and deaths have remained low at 126 817 and 4 550 respectively, clearly not all the reported covid 19 cases from the school are being taken into account.
The regime has been boasting about Zimbabwe’s low covid-19 statics, insisting it is proof of the regime’s competent management of the pandemic. This is nonsense when it is clearly a case of deliberately under reporting, especially when the price of failing to accurately accounting for the cases means many infected individuals who should otherwise be in isolation are left to spread the virus far and wide.
In January 2019, before the corona virus outbreak, the best performing school Chiredzi South constituency for Grade 7, Form 2, 4 and 6 had 3% pass rate with the majority posting 0%! No doubt many rural school will be in the same boat as Chiredzi South. Decades of being starved of adequate funding have taken their toll.
One has to question the rational behind the Zimbabwe government’s insistence on reopening schools, against teachers’ advice, turning them into corona virus hotspots and putting the health of students at increased health risk so the regime can brag it has managed to keep covid 19 cases low and thus reopen schools. And the students are running the risk for the sake of a 3% pass rate at best!

By A Correspondent- There was drama at the Beitbridge Magistrates Court yesterday when a juvenile murder suspect bolted from the courtroom and took to his heels before he was charged.

“I can confirm a fire incident involving a bus in Mutoko. As police, we urge drivers to thoroughly check their buses for possible mechanical faults before embarking on journeys,” he said.
It is reported that on September 11, at around 1pm, Dzviti Mavhura (51), driving a Zebra Kiss coach, was travelling towards Nyamapanda with 29 passengers on board when he noticed smoke coming from the dashboard before pulling off the road to check.
He noticed that the bus was on fire and alerted passengers who disembarked safely.
Some of the passengers managed to remove their luggage before the bus was engulfed in flames.

By Nontokozo Malaba Ncube| Mthuli Ncube recently said that the Zimbabwean economy is recovering. People on the ground are wondering which economy is he talking about because they don’t see any recovery in their day to day lives.
This is not the first time Mthuli has said something that is outside reality. Does he really believe the things he says or is he in competition with Nick Mangwana for the most fiction? Which economy is he talking about? Maybe he is measuring this recovery using the economic activity that’s happening between the Zim government and the cartels through which money is being stolen? If he measured the economic recovery by looking at real people’s lives he would know that people are suffering.
I have been following his tweets these past few days and have observed something very disturbing. Mthuli likes to tweet about all this fancy stuff about technologies, trend setting what’s happening in European countries, while ignoring the plight of ordinary Zimbabweans who want a real economy with real money not this RTGS monopoly money. He is more interested in sounding intelligent and looking like a visionary if the great African recovery which by the way will never happen so long as people like his boss Emmerson Mnangagwa are in charge. He doesn’t strike me as someone who knows anything about hard graft and struggling. He knows nothing about what it is like to be a single mother of three who is a vendor.
We have heard enough nonsense from Mthuli Ncube. He is out of touch and a big part of the problem not the solution. Him, his boss Mnangagwa and the rest of the old planks in that government should bugger off after the next election. They have failed at everything dismally.

By Margret Tashayawedu| In 2019, SB Moyo the then Zimbabwean Foreign Minister famous for announcing the 2017 coup, who is late now, came to the UK and made a scene in London at Chatham House. His visit was met with protests by Zimbabweans who blindsided him, and pretty much chased him out of town. As it happens, in the last few weeks, there has been a swirling of rumours that the current Zimbabwean dictator, Emmerson Mnangagwa will fly into the UK for the Climate Change Conference.
First of all, it has to be said that it’s a bit puzzling for the UN to invite a dysfunctional government that can’t even fix pot holes on a conference about climate change. Nonetheless, if he comes here then ED should expert to face strong protests where ever he goes while he is here. This protests will perhaps even more determined protests than the reception given to SB Moyo when he came over because we are talking about the number 1 cause of all of Zimbabwe’s problems.
SB Moyo aides trying to disperse diasporans protesting against the late Foreign Affairs minister
A significant number of Zimbabweans in the UK will put the dates on their calendar and will travel to London or Scotland to give the tin-pot dictator a piece of their mind. Every single moment that he spends in the UK he will be met with protests. We don’t Iike him, and we want him gone, and we will be telling him that in person.
Just to remind those who tend to forget why we want ED and Zanu gone. This man made himself president using the military in 2017. He sent soldiers to kill protesters who were contesting the rigged election. He then sent soldiers to kill people in the high density suburbs and has since banned demonstrations, essentially criminalising anyone who questions his authority. We want him gone!!! #Zanupfmustgo
ANALYSIS | “If we thought it’s not possible for a person to sacrifice his wife for powers so their church grows, that’s what Chiwenga did. If he wants to deny that, I’ll download everything that’s happened in his face,” Talent Chiwenga’s mother in law alleged as the accused defended self saying,” God will vindicate me.”
The damning allegations were made over 7 months ago and have seen the preacher respond saying God will vindicate him, and then threatening her to retract the statement failure which he will institute legal action within 4 weeks. What happened after the mother in law defied the threats and continued boldly speaking?
When ‘Apostle’ Talent Chiwenga was challenged concerning alleged adultery by his own mother in law, he unleashed lawyers using fake threats after his late wife’s mother, and a ZimEye columnist, Howard Nyoni, the legal summons which are below…
the papers served against Talent Chiwenga’s mother in lawThe last page of the legal threat to Talent Chiwenga’s mother in law.
as also revealed by Howard Nyoni, shortly before CHIWENGA deployed a British ‘Law firm’, through summons which claimed Nyoni is a former church adherent who is now disgruntled. (Nyoni is a veteran analyst who for years has participated in successful prosecution of church sex predators in UK and Zimbabwe),
Talent Chiwenga also began claiming Howard Nyoni is a disgruntled former member of his cult, JRM- Jesus Revelation Ministries, when such a thing has never happened. Nyoni was a panelist in a news discussion with Chiwenga in Nov 2017, during the times Talent Chiwenga was seeking publicity through the news network.

Part of the legal threats against Mr. Howard Nyoni
One of the young girls Talent Chiwenga raped is his own wife’s younger sister, Tariro Mafuka (+27 62 583 1***, we release the number as there is a criminal investigation for murder), he later secretly married more than 3 years before the accident that killed his wife, Rejoice. He would after that date, secretly drive her back to Zimbabwe from South Africa where she has been since the secret marriage, years before.
Sought for a comment over the last 3 years, Talent Chiwenga has declined responding only to resort to video streams on his church portal where he has constantly avoided the issue of his sex attacks against women and his overspeeding in Masvingo road which killed his wife, Rejoice.
In his first accident, in which he has accused Emmerson Mnangagwa, he was rescued by a top notorious ZANU PF he calls a good Samaritan, Mr Seviyas Piki, and in the 2nd one, he was rescued by an unnamed driver in a white vehicle that quickly whisked him away from the accident scene.
ACCIDENT IN NORTON: Source alleges Talent Chiwenga was taken away by a white car from the scene within 10 minutes from the accident, and left everyone else at the scene. Contacted for a comment, Chiwenga's PA Pastor Baloyi confessed ignorance. He told ZimEye,"I am not aware…" pic.twitter.com/RYXukBt0co
The below is a full compilation of Talent Chiwenga’s own words between June and November 2019 speaking on LIVE camera giving details on his allegations.
In his own video, recorded inside hospital less than a day after the accident, the preacher loudly says that he was speeding (in a 60km speed limit zone) at 120 kmeters per hour and he even wanted to accelerate beyond 120km for no other reason other than to rush to Harare and purchase a new fan belt for his car. No one was chasing after him. He then collided with an oncoming haulage truck and three people died as a result of the collision (accident video below).
Speaking during a church service, Talent Chiwenga said, ” I had a friend in Eugene Kanyuchi. I am sure many of you you know him. He served me in the work of Christ in the protocol department. And I had Mai Vhurumuko, and I think you all know her, you all knew her. VIDEO ( The story continues below)…
VIDEO LOADING BELOW…
“I faced death with those 2 people for as long as they were in the ministry. A week before we drove to South Africa I sat down with both of them and I said to them- you are following me everywhere I am going, I am in danger because in those three weeks before the accident we had a lot of incidents where death threats continued to come.
“I am sure you still remember at First Street when there was a message that came: run away they are going to come to kill you. And I said I am not going to run. Because I cannot run away from death death is something that nobody can run away from. So I sat with her husband and Mai Vhurumuku, and Baba Vhurumuku is not here, he works outside the country, and I told them there is death that is imminent; we knew about it it, we wrote a letter to president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“And I told them that I was going to deliver that letter. The two of them, they volunteered to go with me, and I said if I don’t come back what happens to you?
“They said we will then not come back all of us. Vari vaviri, Baba Kanyuchi naMai Vhurumuku, ndaiti ndakavaudza kuti Vhangeri iyi ine vavengi vakawanda, ichasvika panguva yekuti tichafanirwa kuifira, vaiti, ” we are ready to die for the gospel.”
“Hapana anga aine rwendo rwekuenda kuSouth Africa pahu two hwavo. They volunteered to go with me. Three times in South Africa Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I saw a vision somebody was pointing a gun at me and I was being shot. And I was dying in that vision and then I was seeing myself dying when I was standing on the other side, and I told Baba Kanyuchi, I told Mai Chiwenga, this is what is going to happen, I am not comfortable something is about to happen. And they said let the will of the lord prevail.
“Our greatest challenge is when that time comes in our lives are we going to be holding our faith like they did? That is why we cannot count their departure, as a loss, it is not them that lost, it is us who lost. We lost an opportunity to go in good time, murikundinzwa here vadikani? Takashaiwa mukana wekuenda, zvichakanaka. So I just want to remind you that the people that do not believe do not understand their level, their carnal level, their corruptible level, their crooked level, we know what you are aiming for, we know the Lord, we know the Lord is coming. We know we shall be vindicated. We know we shall be justified. We know the gospel is going to go on. We know nobody is going to stop the gospel. We know nothing is going to stop the gospel.
“Not even the murderers, not even the politicians. Not even the CIO, not even the army, they will not stop this gospel. They can kill me today but they can’t kill the gospel.
“Tell your neighbour: they can kill me today but they can’t kill the gospel. The gospel cannot be killed because not even a bullet can reach close to the gospel. It is spiritual it is not physical.
“The AK47 kana CZ Pistol, inogona kuuraya nyama, asi mweya haigone kuuraya. So we just want to observe a moment of silence, but I want us us to first of all read this whole passage, in Phillipians chapter 1, let me read it up to verse 30. And then we observed a moment of silence to remind ourselves that there is a burden that lies squarely on our shoulders, to uphold the faith and to the very end, like our comrades did. They are our comrades, they are our heroes. They are heroes of faith, they stood firm for the gospel, and we have got to do the same. If we walk away from the faith, we are disappointing them. Hallelujah, Jesus is counting on us to stand firm unto the very end. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
What happened after the mother in law defied the threats and continued boldly speaking? Nothing happened to her, and the legal papers were never actioned.
By A Correspondent- A drug dealer has fainted after being handed a 12-year jail term for smuggling cocaine worth $7 million into Zimbabwe.
Sheila Khumalo, a South African aged 50, will serve an effective ten years in prison after Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.
She fainted in court when the magistrate handed down her sentence.
Khumalo, was arrested in May this year at the Robert Mugabe International Airport trying to smuggle 60 sachets of the contraband.
It is said Khumalo had swallowed the sachets and it was reported at that time that Khumalo excreted 58 sachets of the drug while in police custody.
The court heard that on May 9, information was received to the effect that Sheila Khumalo was coming to Zimbabwe from Brazil with cocaine aboard an Ethiopian airways flight and was expected to arrive at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe international airport.
Acting on the information, on May 10, a team of detectives from CID drugs and narcotics Harare, operatives from the Central Intelligence Organisation and personnel from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority manned the arrival section at the airport and intercepted Khumalo. A search was conducted on Khumalo’s luggage and on her person, leading to the recovery of 53 small white sachets with whitish powder stashed in a pair of black socks and also in her undergarments.
The seized cocaine has an approximate mass of 975 grams with a total value of ZWL$7 800 000.
During her appearance in court, it is reported that Khumalo said that the drugs she was found in possession of were for her own use and she was in transit to her home in South Africa.
Khumalo denied ever dealing in drugs and told the court that she never met or interacted with anyone in Zimbabwe other than the arresting details, denied having connections in Zimbabwe and that there is no third party or second person that she got into contact with in Zimbabwe.
Khumalo said she never sold any drugs here in Zimbabwe as she is not in the business of selling and buying drugs, denied importing drugs into Zimbabwe as an import is only complete upon reaching the port of destination.
Khumalo is allegedly linked to a serious drug syndicate and most of the syndicate members are still at large and yet to be accounted for.
She becomes the fourth foreigner to be arrested for the same crime in a space of about one month. In April, this year a 22-year-old man from Brazil was arrested while attempting to smuggle into the country 4,30 kilogrammes of cocaine with a street value of ZWL$32 million dollars.
