Facts About Suicide

Key facts

More than 700 000 people die due to suicide every year.
For every suicide there are many more people who attempt suicide. A prior suicide attempt is the single most important risk factor for suicide in the general population.
Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15-19-year-olds.
77% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries.
Ingestion of pesticide, hanging and firearms are among the most common methods of suicide globally.
Every year 703 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and was the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally in 2019.

Suicide does not just occur in high-income countries, but is a global phenomenon in all regions of the world. In fact, over 77% of global suicides occurred in low- and middle-income countries in 2019.

Suicide is a serious public health problem; however, suicides are preventable with timely, evidence-based and often low-cost interventions. For national responses to be effective, a comprehensive multisectoral suicide prevention strategy is needed.

Who is at risk?
While the link between suicide and mental disorders (in particular, depression and alcohol use disorders) is well established in high-income countries, many suicides happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up or chronic pain and illness.

In addition, experiencing conflict, disaster, violence, abuse, or loss and a sense of isolation are strongly associated with suicidal behaviour. Suicide rates are also high amongst vulnerable groups who experience discrimination, such as refugees and migrants; indigenous peoples; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) persons; and prisoners. By far the strongest risk factor for suicide is a previous suicide attempt.

Methods of suicide
It is estimated that around 20% of global suicides are due to pesticide self-poisoning, most of which occur in rural agricultural areas in low- and middle-income countries. Other common methods of suicide are hanging and firearms.

Knowledge of the most commonly used suicide methods is important to devise prevention strategies which have shown to be effective, such as restriction of access to means of suicide.

Prevention and control
Suicides are preventable. There are a number of measures that can be taken at population, sub-population and individual levels to prevent suicide and suicide attempts. LIVE LIFE, WHO’s approach to suicide prevention, recommends the following key effective evidence-based interventions:

limit access to the means of suicide (e.g. pesticides, firearms, certain medications);
interact with the media for responsible reporting of suicide;
foster socio-emotional life skills in adolescents;
early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviours.,
These need to go hand-in-hand with the following foundational pillars: situation analysis, multisectoral collaboration, awareness raising, capacity building, financing, surveillance and monitoring and evaluation.

Suicide prevention efforts require coordination and collaboration among multiple sectors of society, including the health sector and other sectors such as education, labour, agriculture, business, justice, law, defence, politics, and the media. These efforts must be comprehensive and integrated as no single approach alone can make an impact on an issue as complex as suicide.

Challenges and obstacles
Stigma and taboo
Stigma, particularly surrounding mental disorders and suicide, means many people thinking of taking their own life or who have attempted suicide are not seeking help and are therefore not getting the help they need. The prevention of suicide has not been adequately addressed due to a lack of awareness of suicide as a major public health problem and the taboo in many societies to openly discuss it. To date, only a few countries have included suicide prevention among their health priorities and only 38 countries report having a national suicide prevention strategy.

Raising community awareness and breaking down the taboo is important for countries to make progress in preventing suicide.

Data quality
Globally, the availability and quality of data on suicide and suicide attempts is poor. Only some 80 Member States have good-quality vital registration data that can be used directly to estimate suicide rates. This problem of poor-quality mortality data is not unique to suicide, but given the sensitivity of suicide – and the illegality of suicidal behaviour in some countries – it is likely that under-reporting and misclassification are greater problems for suicide than for most other causes of death.

Improved surveillance and monitoring of suicide and suicide attempts is required for effective suicide prevention strategies. Cross-national differences in the patterns of suicide, and changes in the rates, characteristics and methods of suicide, highlight the need for each country to improve the comprehensiveness, quality and timeliness of their suicide-related data. This includes vital registration of suicide, hospital-based registries of suicide attempts and nationally-representative surveys collecting information about self-reported suicide attempts.

WHO response
WHO recognizes suicide as a public health priority. The first WHO World Suicide Report “Preventing suicide: a global imperative”, published in 2014, aims to increase the awareness of the public health significance of suicide and suicide attempts and to make suicide prevention a high priority on the global public health agenda. It also aims to encourage and support countries to develop or strengthen comprehensive suicide prevention strategies in a multisectoral public health approach.

Suicide is one of the priority conditions in the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) launched in 2008, which provides evidence-based technical guidance to scale up service provision and care in countries for mental, neurological and substance use disorders. In the WHO Mental Health Action Plan 2013–2030, WHO Member States have committed themselves to working towards the global target of reducing the suicide rate in countries by one third by 2030.

In addition, the suicide mortality rate is an indicator of target 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals: by 2030, to reduce by one third premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases through prevention and treatment, and promote mental health and well-being.

Norman Mapeza A Man On A Mission

New Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has admitted that the players will need some counselling to boost their confidence ahead of the back-to-back World Cup Qualifiers against Ghana next month.

Mapeza takes over the reins when the national team is trying to recover from a disappointing start to the campaign. The boys played to a goalless draw at home against South Africa before losing 1-0 in Ethiopia.

Speaking on ZBC TV on Saturday, Mapeza said: “I will need to talk to the boys and forget what happened in the past. We played a draw against South Africa and lost in Ethiopia, and it’s all part of the game.

“But it’s a new game, and they (the team) only need to wait and put maximum effort in whatever we are going to do.

“It’s (playing Ghana) not going to be easy considering the time frame, so we are going to talk with them to try and save the pride of the nation.”

The Warriors will travel to Ghana on the 6th of October before returning to Harare for the second leg four days later.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

In a letter addressed to the chairperson of ZEC and dated 20 September 2021, CCC Secretary-General, Farai Zhou, said the party’s leader, Varaidzo Musungo, will be their 2023 presidential candidate. Wrote Zhou:

We refer to the above and write further to our letter of 8 September 2021.

We can confirm that our Party’s President and 2023 Presidential Candidate is Ms Varaidzo Musungo. Our party logo as appears at the top and bottom of this letter.

In the interests of better communication, we are sourcing offices in Harare and will advise once we have these.

ZEC letter

Meanwhile, exiled former ZANU PF Politburo member, Professor Jonathan Moyo, who has become a critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government since his exile several years ago, early this month urged the MDC Alliance to take the necessary legal steps to protect the “Citizen Convergence for Change (CCC)” brand.

CCC has over the past few months been touted as an alternative party name for the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance after MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora laid claim to the MDC Alliance name.

In a tweet, this Monday, journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono criticised the MDC Alliance for its perceived lack of strategy.

He said:

Jonathan Moyo @ProfJNMoyo warned citizens against complacency, and also the need to register CCC. Whilst many were busy insulting Jonathan Moyo, this is what the regime was busy doing! Do you now understand that numbers are meaningless without strategy?

“Borehole Water A Potential Health Risk”: City Fathers

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has warned residents against drinking borehole water saying it (council) has no capacity to treat the water.

In its latest council report, the local authority warned that borehole water was a potential health risk.

The council said sewer overflows and bacteriological contaminated soil are the main sources of borehole contamination.

The local authority advised residents to boil borehole water before drinking it. The council report read:

The Director of Engineering Services reported (29th July, 2021) that borehole water was not treated water nor did Council have the capacity to treat or protect such water from contamination.

In that regard, bacteriological quality of borehole water could not be guaranteed since the water was untreated and subject to contamination at any time from environmental factors like sewer overflows and bacteriological contaminated soil.

Biti Arrest Warrant Cancelled

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Stanford Mambanje has cancelled a warrant of arrest issued against opposition Vice President Tendai Biti at the instigation of State Prosecutor Michael Reza.

Biti is facing allegations of insulting a Russian national and Pokugara Properties Chief Operations Officer Tatiana Aleshina outside the Harare Magistrates Court.

Biti said he was at the Harare Magistrates Court at 0830 hours in the morning while hitting out the state owned Herald newspaper for conniving with the state and Aleshina by reporting on the warrant of arrest before it had even been issued.

“Despite the fact that I was at court by 830 , State Prosecutor Michael Reza applied for a warrant of arrest against me in my on going persecution engineered by land baron Ken Sharpe. This was a prepaid warrant as the @HeraldZimbabwe was reporting on the same before it’s issuance,” said Biti.

He further noted that Magistrate Mambanje was critical of the state for pushing what appeared like a personal vendetta against the decorated lawyer.

“In canceling the Warrant Magistrate Stenford Mambanje was critical of State position and State lies. It is quite clear the extent State Capture and the desperate attempt to silence critical alternative voices. We have never been cowards. We never yielded on matters of principle,” added Biti.

The former Finance minister during the inclusive government fingered controversial land developer Kenneth Raydon Sharpe for engineering his continued persecution which he said is meant to silence him.

Biti is the lead lawyer for Harare north legislator Norman Markham who is suing Sharpe and the government for illegally parceling out state land under the guise of payment for the construction of Airport road.

Statement On The Destruction Of Cleverland Wetland

20 September 2021

We the organizations here present,

United as a coalition working towards wetlands preservation in the Harare Metropolitan Province,

Gravely Concerned by the construction of houses and a vocational centre at Cleveland wetland/catchment area and concerned that the construction will adversely affect water delivery and disaster preparedness plans against flooding as we head towards the 2021-2022 rain season,

Disturbed, by the continued construction activities in the Cleveland Catchment when an Environmental Protection Order was issued to the developer by EMA,

Outraged, by the disregard of the newly gazetted Harare Wetlands Map,

Acknowledging our inalienable right to life, to clean water and a clean environment as provided for in the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe as well as the role wetlands play in water delivery and climate change resilience.

Maintaining thatthe destruction of wetlands through construction of buildings in Harare Metropolitan Province remains one of the contributors to the water challenges bedeviling Harare and flooding of homes that rocked Harare in past years.

The evidence of the past is clear that people whose houses are built on wetlands have been experiencing perpetual flooding within their homes every rain season, hence allowing construction of houses in any wetland is a recipe for disaster.

In relation to disasters posed by construction of houses in wetlands, we view that this will burden already depleted local authorities and national budgets,

Worried that the property developer on Cleveland wetland was issued an Environmental Protection Order by EMA and still continued to disregard the order; and worried that events at Cleveland Catchment area reflects the current wave of destruction of wetlands at national level and by the gap that exist between policy and practice on protection of water sources and ecologically sensitive areas in our country.

Following reports, we made to the City of Harare and the Environment Management Agency in the last week. This follows our routine engagements with relevant authorities on the urgency to protect wetlands from construction of buildings, illegal urban agriculture and sand poaching.

We are disappointed that the authorities have not taken decisive action to halt this unfortunate situation. What is more worrying is we are heading towards the rain season and weather forecasts from the Meteorological Services Department show that Harare is likely to get above normal rainfall, the same prediction that happened last rain season and we got serious flooding of houses constructed on wetlands.

We contend that the construction of buildings is at the heart of the water challenges and flooding disasters hitting local authorities.

The water supply situation in Harare remains dire. The City is producing 417 megalitres per day, 60% of which is unaccounted for water. The agenda of wetlands preservation remains urgent. There seems to be no clear plan to use the Harare Wetlands map to guide spatial planning in Harare Metropolitan Province.

We implore the Government to urgently ensure that Harare Wetlands map guide spatial planning within Harare Metropolitan Province.

We state that any public official both elected and non-elected who, promote, support, sustain or catalyze destruction of wetlands is not fit to hold public office and he or she is a threat to water security

We thus make the following demands as Combined Harare Residents Association and Community Water Alliance:

v  Improved coordination among government departments, agencies and local authorities on environmental and water management plans. The newly developed Harare Wetlands map should guide spatial planning within the Metropolitan Province.

v  Government must respect international treaties, domestic laws and its policies by immediately stopping construction activities currently underway in the Cleveland Catchment Wetland area.

v  Full implementation of devolution as provided by Chapter 14 of the constitution and allow citizens to have a voice on the management of natural resources within their local areas.

v  Government and local authorities must not allow any further land grabs or invasions on any wetland and safeguard the abuse of regularization provisions in the regional Town Planning Act by politically connected land barons.

v  Scaling up the wetlands agenda among CSOs and Residents Associations through establishment of a National Wetlands Coordination Forum and 10 Provincial Wetlands Coordination Forums in view of devolution.

v  Political parties in Zimbabwe should come up with comprehensive and robust climate change policies that will include wetlands protection in their election Manifestos ahead of the 2023 elections.

v  Local Authorities must come up with enforceable Climate Change Policies that recognize wetlands protection as part of climate resilience strategy

As an emerging nucleus of a Coalition on Wetlands protection we intend to do the following;

v  Take legal action against the current developments in the Cleveland Catchment and other areas.

v  Ratchet a campaign on organizing and mobilization of citizens to take charge of their wetlands within their local areas.

v  Compliment and support local authorities and government efforts in the protection of wetlands

v  Conduct an information blitz campaign that includes naming and shaming people involved in wetlands destruction.

Twine Phiri Eyes Top ZIFA Post

Former CAPS United president Twine Phiri is reportedly targeting a return to the local football over five years after leaving his PSL chairman post.

According to the Chronicle, Phiri has expressed the desire to run for the ZIFA presidency in the next elections. He has already chosen former Highlanders chairman Peter Dube as his running mate.

The two administrators recently held a meeting in Bulawayo on the issue.

This would not be the first time the pair will be working together. Phiri was the chairman of the PSL from 2010 to 2016, while Dube deputised him at one point of the tenure.

The administration brought in several sponsors like Delta Beverages, NetOne, BancABC, Mbada Diamonds, Pick ‘n’ Pay, SuperSport and Nestle. Only Delta Beverages are still with the league.

Meanwhile, incumbent Felton Kamambo has not indicated whether or not he will seek re-election.

Former Warriors striker Alois Bunjira and UK-based football agent Ellen Chiwenga have also expressed interest in running for the ZIFA presidency. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Nakamba In Superb Form As Aston Villa Win

Warriors midfielder Marvellous Nakamba has been showered with praise for the ‘decisive role’ he played in Aston Villa’s impressive 3-0 win over Everton yesterday.

The Zimbabwean star came on five minutes before half time for the injured John McGinn and put on an impressive shift in the Claret and Blue engine room.

Birmingham Mail writer Patrick Rowe believes the introduction of Nakamba was the turning point in the game.

“Marvelous Nakamba was substituted on in the 40th minute due to John McGinn suffering from dizziness after he took a blow to the head. McGinn is quite the attacking threat in this side and the decision to bring on a very defensive minded player like Nakamba caused some unrest in the crowd at the time.

Emiliano Buendia is capable of playing in centre midfield and offers a lot both going forward and defensively, so fans were perplexed when they saw Nakamba stripped off and ready to come on.”

Continued Rowe: “He (Nakamba) replaced Douglas Luiz in the holding midfielder role, and this then allowed the Brazilian to operate in the areas McGinn was previously roaming. It was this change that ultimately proved to be the deciding factor in this tough fixture against Everton.

“Nakamba possesses an innate ability to disrupt the opposition and it was no different in this game. He consistently broke the play up and halted any Everton player that came his way. His defensive ability is never in question, what fans do have doubts about is his ability on the ball. In this game however, he seemingly put this issue to bed.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Guns Will Not Defeat People Power – Sarkozy

Tinashe Sambiri |MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson, Stephen Sarkozy Chuma says change is now on the horizon and guns will not defeat the people of Zimbabwe.

In a statement written on Monday, Sarkozy urged young people to register to vote.

Read full statement below:

20-09-2021

There is boundless support for MDC Alliance President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa as evidenced by a general consensus amongst citizens that he is the proper occupant of Presidency’s office in this country.

Once again the country is spellbound by the Nelson Chamisa wave with social media hashtags #NgaapindeHakeMukomana and #ChamisaNgaapinde infectiously sweeping across the country.

Emmerson Mnangagwa might have bulldozed his way into the Presidency through the gun, but Nelson Chamisa remains the people’s darling for that office.

It is a Chamisa season!

The consensus, agreement and coherence in messages of change around President Chamisa explains why he is aptly referred to as the People’s President.

From every pocket of space, virtual or physical, the citizens are agreed that President Chamisa is the best foot forward.

Indeed change is right on the horizon, but it is incumbent upon us to make sure every eligible citizen is a registered voter.

We have a generational duty to right the situation in this country.

Voting For Mnangagwa Is Voting For Poverty – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has bemoaned increasing poverty in the country due to mismanagement of State resources by the Zanu PF regime.

According to President Chamisa, voting for Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF is voting for poverty.

See President Chamisa’s full presentation on Twitter…

1/INCREASING POVERTY..Everywhere I go people are struggling to make ends meet, put money in their pocket, get food for their families & a roof above their heads. Life in Zimbabwe is such a daily fight for everything & anything..from food, electricity, water, transport, jobs to money.

2/Based on data analysis on food poverty with 2017 & 2019 Poverty,Income, Consumption,Expenditure Survey (PICES)data, the World Bank estimates that the no of people under the food poverty line (the share of pple that can’t afford a basic basket of food products),

3/or people living with income under USD $1.90 per day has increased from 3 million people in 2011 to 4.7 million (29% of the population) to about 6 million in 2019 and rose to 7.9 million in 2020 (World Bank, 2021).

4/When the Min of Finance is celebrating budget surplus, the budget cuts & excessive taxes have pushed 49% (7.9 million) of the population into extreme poverty up from 3 million people in 2011 (during GNU).In fact,in 2020 alone,1.9 million Zimbabweans entered into extreme poverty.

5/Of interest to Zimbabweans is the fact that in 2018, 29% of the population was in extreme poverty. About two years later, an additional 20% of the population entered into extreme poverty on the back of years bad policies, bad governance, conflict and a command economy.

6/Sadly, the INCAPABLE in Gvt are celebrating the so-called ‘budget surplus’ when half of the population is now wallowing in abject poverty. The message here is clear:voting for them is voting for poverty. This is why it is urgent for the all CITIZENS TO CONVERGE FOR CHANGE!#CCC

Zimbabwe Citizens Convergence Agenda

By Brian Mari Matutu

PREAMBLE
(i) All citizens of Zimbabwe regardless of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status are invited to a citizen’s convergence in Lusaka Zambia on a date yet to be confirmed but in December 2021.

(ii) Those who cannot physically be in Zambia are encouraged to give their views through the means that are yet to be agreed on.

(iii) The main reason to meet in Zambia is because our republic is under hostile regime which has blocked all avenues for citizens to converge.

(iv) Since Zambia and Zimbabwe were formerly one state and our people and Zambia share the same umbilical cord no one can say he is in foreign land when he is in Zambia. Even President Mnangagwa has history with Zambia and his own family calls it home.

(v) Having noted that judicial authority in Zimbabwe is only derived from of Zimbabwe as enshrined in section 162 and is vested in courts

(vi) Having noted that Zimbabwe adopted a National Constitution and this being in line with ICCPR Article 1.1 “All peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.”

(vii) And In 2013 through a declaration which we called “Preamble” we collectively stated the following “We the people of Zimbabwe, , United in our diversity by our common desire for freedom, justice and equality, and our heroic resistance to colonialism, racism and all forms of domination and oppression Exalting and extolling the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives during the Chimurenga / Umvukela and national liberation struggles, Honouring our forebears and compatriots who toiled for the progress of our country, Recognising the need to entrench democracy, good, transparent and accountable governance and the rule of law , Reaffirming our commitment to upholding and defending fundamental human rights and freedoms, Acknowledging the richness of our natural resources, Celebrating the vibrancy of our traditions and culture s , Determined to overcome all challenges and obstacles that impede our progress, Cherishing freedom, equality, peace, justice, tolerance, prosperity and patriotism in search of new frontiers under a common destiny, Acknowledging the supremacy of Almighty God, in whose hands our future lies, Resolve by the tenets of this Constitution to commit ourselves to build a united, just and prosperous nation, founded on values of transparency, equality, freedom, fairness, honesty and the dignity of hard work, And, imploring the guidance and support of Almighty God, hereby make this Constitution and commit ourselves to it as the fundamental law of our beloved land.”

(viii) And in our section 1 of the constitution declared the status of our state as “Zimbabwe is a unitary, democratic and sovereign republic.”

(ix) Whereas section 2 stated the supremacy of the constitution as follows “Supremacy of Constitution(1)This Constitution is the supreme law of Zimbabwe and any law, practice, custom or conduct inconsistent with it is invalid to the extent of the inconsistency.(2)The obligations imposed by this Constitution are binding on every person, natural or juristic, including the State and all executive, legislative and judicial institutions and agencies of government at every level, and must be fulfilled by them.”

(x) And Section 35 of the constitution states as follows “(1) Persons are Zimbabwean citizens by birth, descent or registration. (2) All Zimbabwean citizens are equally entitled to the rights, privileges and benefits of citizenship and are equally subject to the duties and obligations of citizenship. 3)All Zimbabwean citizens are entitled to the following rights and benefits, in addition to any others granted to them by law—(a)to the protection of the State wherever they may be;(b)to passports and other travel documents; and(c)to birth certificates and other identity documents issued by the State. (4)Zimbabwean citizens have the following duties, in addition to any others imposed upon them by law—(a)to be loyal to Zimbabwe;(b)to observe this Constitution and to respect its ideals and institutions;(c)to respect the national flag and the national anthem; and(d)to the best of their ability, to defend Zimbabwe and its sovereignty.”

(xi) It is at this juncture that every citizen must take note and realise the obligations and duties bestowed equally upon each one of them.

(xii) It is at this juncture that every citizen of Zimbabwe from all walks of life, the lawyers, jurists, civil societies, religious organisation, civil societies, law societies , labour unions , business communities and any social grouping in Zimbabwe in order to ensure that any person claiming a remedy against any violation of his or her rights shall have his/her right thereto determined by competent judicial, administrative or legislative authorities, or by any other competent authority provided for by the legal system of our State, and to develop the possibilities of judicial remedy;

(xiii) It is at this juncture we present the full details of the total collapse of judicial authority and absence of a constitutional court bench established by section 166 of the constitution.

(xiv) It is further highlighted that there are political appointees masquerading as Constitutional court bench and have given judgements from 23 May 2020 which is the last date the paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule transitional Constitutional Court’s life expired.

(xv) It is further highlighted that there is a standing High Court judgement against all Supreme Court judges and those that are masquerading as Judges of Constitutional Court.

(xvi) Further than that it is noted that these said judges appealed the High Judgement with the Supreme Court but there is no independent judge to hear the appeal, however during High court case the said judges never submitted anything as response.

(xvii) It is further noted that a litigant approached Constitutional Court on an attempt to reverse the High Court Judgement. An illegitimate bench without authority sat as constitutional court.

(xviii) It was Highlighted to this illegitimate bench that they cannot all sit to hear a matter in Constitutional court.

(xix) However the bench refused recuse itself and said it is going to proceed to hear the matter and give a judgement.

(xx) It is pointless for whole nation to wait for a verdict of an illegitimate bench to decide if it is legitimate.

(xxi) The legitimacy comes from the constitution we all voted for as Zimbabweans and the authority can only and only come from us.

(xxii) This is why we must converge and look at the following and then come up with a way forward, bearing in mind that no one else beside us as citizens can resolve this issue.

THE CRISIS
1) To lay out the points, one must first show that there are three kinds of authority that are only driven direct from people of Zimbabwe and no where else. This is the critical point to first understand.

i) Section 88 direct as follows “1)Executive authority derives from the people of Zimbabwe and must be exercised in accordance with this Constitution.(2)The executive authority of Zimbabwe vests in the President who exercises it, subject to this Constitution, through the Cabinet.
ii) Section 117 direct the legislative Authority as follows, “(1)The legislative authority of Zimbabwe is derived from the people and is vested in and exercised in accordance with this Constitution by the Legislature.(2)The legislative authority confers on the Legislature the power—(a)to amend this Constitution in accordance with section 328;(b)to make laws for the peace, order and good governance of Zimbabwe; and(c)to confer subordinate legislative powers upon another body or authority in accordance with section 134”
iii) Section 162 confers judicial authority as follows “Judicial authority derives from the people of Zimbabwe and is vested in the courts, which comprise—(a)the Constitutional Court;(b)the Supreme Court;(c)the High Court;(d)the Labour Court; (e)the Administrative Court;(f)the magistrates courts;(g)the customary law courts; and(h)other courts established by or under an Act of Parliament.
iv) The authorities given to public officers is further guided by section 196 which state as follows “(1)Authority assigned to a public officer is a public trust which must be exercised in a manner which—(a)is consistent with the purposes and objectives of this Constitution;(b)demonstrates respect for the people and a readiness to serve them rather than rule them; and(c)promotes public confidence in the office held by the public officer.(2)Public officers must conduct themselves, in public and private life, so as to avoid any conflict between their personal interests and their public or official duties, and to abstain from any conduct that demeans their office.(3)Public officers in leadership positions must abide by the following principles of leadership—(a)objectivity and impartiality in decision making;(b)honesty in the execution of public duties;(c)accountability to the public for decisions and actions; and(d)discipline and commitment in the service of the people.
v) Section 165(2) clears doubt on the authority of judicial officers and states as follows “165(2)Members of the judiciary, individually and collectively, must respect and honour their judicial office as a public trust and must strive to enhance their independence in order to maintain public confidence in the judicial system.”
2) After showing clearly the three kinds of authorities as driven from us citizens, clearly showing the boundaries of each authority and where the said authority is vested, clearly showing the source of authority in every office bearer and limits of the authority, you go a step further to clearly show that
i) The office bearers manning the Constitutional court have no judicial authority flowing from constitution.
ii) Citizens have no remedy of a legitimate constitutional court established in terms of section 166.
iii) Should there be unconstitutional decisions by President or Parliament the people of Zimbabwe have no Constitutional court bench established by law to approach.
iv) Should there be election disputes on election of President there is no constitutional court bench to approach.
v) Should there be any violation of a right in the bill of rights litigants have no constitutional court bench to approach.
vi) The president is vested only with executive authority and no legal authority. He cannot give what he does not have. Unlike in previous constitution where president was a first citizen who is above others, the current constitution put us as equal citizen and have equal rights and duties before the law.
vii) The legislature is only given legislative authority. Again it cannot give what it does not have.
3) The above points put it bare that where there is a short coming or a constitutional disorder in Judicial authority, then only and only citizens of Zimbabwe can restore it. No amount of intimidation or delay or abuse of other state arms can change this or bring order but only converging and forging a way forward.
4) Because each citizen has equal right and duty no matter where he or she is, it calls for a convergence of citizen to deliberate on the judicial authority and that is of no doubt off line or off rail.
5) This is were I need legal minds within us to also help and be apolitical like we see with some of them.

6) May we be reminded as citizens of Zimbabwe that we adopted a new Constitution in 2013 and repealed the old Lancaster House constitution. This is in line with article 1 of the ICCPR.

7) In the old Constitution we did not have a Constitutional court. Our highest Court before 2013 was the Supreme Court and all Judges in that Court were Supreme Court Judges by appointment. The Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice were administrative posts occupied by Judges of Supreme Court.

8) Through a Schedule of transition from old constitution to new constitution, all matters were transferred to new constitution. Each item in the judiciary arm of state was specifically directed, from tenure of office bearers who were manning offices, to courts themselves, to cases before courts. All was expressly stated on how it will be handled and how office bearers would change offices as well as how vacancies in courts were to be filled. We collectively voted for that constitution.

9) Of note is Schedule six of the constitution. In its paragraph 2, it is clearly spelt that the Schedule prevails, to the extent of any inconsistency, over all other provisions of the constitution.

10) It is upon this background that the attention of the citizens of Zimbabwe is required to take note of paragraph 13 of Sixth Schedule which reads “Any person who, immediately before the effective date, held or acted in a public office under the former Constitution continues to hold or act in that office, or the equivalent office under this Constitution, on the same conditions of service until the expiry of his or her term of office under those conditions of service or until he or she resigns, retires or is removed from office in terms of this Constitution or those conditions of service, as the case may be.”

11) It is brought before the citizens that Justices Luke Malaba, Elizabeth Gwaunza, Paddington Garwe, Rita Makarau, Ben Hlatswayo, Barrat Patel, Marry Anne Guvava were all Judges of Supreme Court as at 20 May 2013 the date which the new constitution was brought into effect.

12) In the old constitution’s section 86, Judges of Supreme Court would serve a tenure were they retire at the age of 65 and could extend that tenure by 5 years upon application and there was a condition that their tenure could not be terminated or office be abolished until they retire or are removed in terms of that constitution.

13) By reading paragraph 13 of the sixth Schedule it should be clear that from 2013 it was a fact that the above mentioned judges can only serve as Supreme Court judges until they retire. Their tenure is not defined by section 186 of 2013 constitution but by section 86 of old constitution. Any amendment of tenure in section 186 of new constitution has no bearing what so ever to these mentioned judges because they are not even serving under section 186 but section 86 of old constitution.

14) The 2013 constitution section 186 has a tenure for Constitutional Court Judges which is a term of maximum of 15 years, which is not renewable, then a tenure for Supreme Court Judges and High Court Judges who serve until they reach age of 70 years.

15) This tenure is totally different to what is in section 86 of old constitution in everything. Nothing in section 186 of new constitution can be amended and then give effect to the tenure of any of these mentioned judges.

16) Their services is guided in the new constitution by paragraph 13 of sixth schedule. Since sixth schedule provisions override any other provision in the constitution nothing in the body of the constitution concerning tenure of these judges can override this paragraph 13 of sixth schedule. Whether the amendments 1 and 2 of constitution are lawful or not it does not change the fact that these mentioned judges are serving under the tenure in section 86 of old constitution.

17) This removes doubt that Luke Malaba cannot extend his tenure beyond 70 years whether the amendment of 186 is legitimate or not. The tenure in section 86 of old constitution says judges retire at 65 then if they wish to extend they can extend to until the age of 70. The clears doubt that after 15 Malaba cannot be a Judge.

18) As it is clear in section 186 that a constitutional court Judge serve on a fresh tenure that state the years to serve not exceeding 15 years and such tenure is non renewable, it is evident also that section 86 of old constitution on had a tenure of service that is pegged on the age of the judge then extending a tenure of section 86 has no relevance to appointment of one as constitutional court.

19) The constitutional court to be established in terms of section 166 is not a continuation of tenures of some other appointments. It is for judges without any tenure who then sign a fresh contract that is non renewable but not exceeding 15 years.

20) All these judges are serving tenures and cannot serve two tenures at the same time neither the service of one tenure can be transferred to another. Its not provided for.

21) Non of these judges ever retired or resigned from their tenures.

22) In a way of transition, a constitutional court comprising of 9 Supreme Court Judges in terms of paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule to the constitution was constituted.

23) This court had a life of 7 years to May 2020.

24) Should a vacancy arise in that court it was by paragraph 18(3) of Sixth Schedule directed that another judge of Supreme Court would fill the vacancy.

25) It was stated in paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule that there is a section 166 constitutional court. Which means these judges knew from onset they were not section 166 constitutional court judges but they were Supreme Court judges sitting as Constitutional court and a section 166 constitutional court was to be established.

26) Within the first 7 years from 2013 to 2020 vacancies in the office of Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice arose and Justice Luke Malaba and Elizabeth respectively who were judges of Supreme court filled the vacancies in the paragraph 18(2) constitutional court in terms of paragraph 18(3) of Sixth Schedule.

27) The Justices mentioned in my point 11 above all served as Judges of Constitutional Court of paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule for the term of 7 years.

28) It is clear that these said judges cannot assume office of Judge of section 166 constitutional court before completing the tenure that was directed by paragraph 13 of Sixth Schedule that they serve in terms of that tenure until they retire.

29) It is also clear that a term of 7 years was prescribed for in the paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule Court making it a term of not more than 15 years and cannot be renewed upon expiry in terms of section 186 of constitution.

30) By reading section 186 it can be seen that upon completion of a non renewable term in Constitutional court a judge can be admitted in into Supreme Court or High Court.

31) These judges did return to Supreme Court after May 2020 and we have judgements they made as Supreme Court judges.

32) It is further brought to the attention of the citizens of paragraph 18(4) of Sixth Schedule which gave right to Rules of Constitutional Court.

33) The said paragraph clearly states “until such time”, this clears doubt we all knew that separate and proper section 166 constitutional court was to be established and the paragraph 18(2) of sixth schedule was not the actual constitutional court.

34) In 2016 Rules of Constitutional Court were established cited as SI 61 of 2016

35) Through the Statutory Instrument cited, A constitutional court is defined as “ the Constitutional Court established by section 166 of the Constitution” and a “Judge” means a “judge or acting judge of the Court appointed in terms of section 177 of the Constitution sitting otherwise than in open court;”

36) This clears doubt that as of today a constitutional court is only one established by section 166 and judges of such court whether Acting judges or substantive are judges only appointed in terms of section 177.

37) As mentioned Luke Malaba and Elizabeth Gwauza were appointed Chief Justices and Deputy Chief Justices in a paragraph 18(2) of sixth schedule 9 member bench comprising all Supreme court Judges. These two were appointed Supreme court Judges in old constitution. No were else did these two ever took judicial oath of office as section 166 constitutional court judges.

38) After 23 May 2020 they cannot sit as constitutional court judges at all.

39) The five judges who were “sworn in” as Constitutional court judges fall short by the reason we have said that personally they are judges from previous constitution section 86 tenure. The have to finish that before they can sign a new tenure, they served a term that was prescribed in constitution. They cannot renew it by pretending to take an oath again.

40) Above all they do not qualify in terms of section 177(1)(a). To qualify as a Judge of constitutional court of section 166, acting or substantive you must not be a serving judge.

41) These are serving judges of Supreme Court. They do not qualify.

42) However paragraph 18(5) of sixth Schedule is clear that “The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe, the High Court of Zimbabwe, the Labour Law Court and the Administrative Court, as established immediately before the effective date, are constituted respectively as the Supreme Court, the High Court, the Labour Court and the Administrative Court under this Constitution, and any decision of those courts given before the effective date has effect accordingly.”

43) It must be clear to everyone that the courts cited in paragraph 18(5) of sixth schedule were not established by 2013 constitution but they were constituted as courts into the new constitution as they were from previous constitution.

44) When section 162 list courts it is important to note that only section 166 Constitutional court was not established by the effective date.

45) Critical to note that the 7 years given to the 9 Judges of Supreme Court to act as Constitutional Court did expire on 20 May 2020.

46) Only a section 166 Constitutional Court can now sit as a constitutional court.

47) As seen in Statutory Instrument 61 of 2016 a Constitutional court Judge whether Acting or substantive is one appointed in terms of section 177 of Zimbabwe constitution. The current judges were not appointed in terms of section 177 of constitution.

48) May I highlight that section 177(1)(a) shows clear that one qualify as a constitutional court if he/she has sound knowledge of the constitution law and is not a serving Judge.

49) A close look and comparison of section 177(1)(a) with section 178(1)(a) as well as section 179(1)(a) will show you that a person who “is” a judge cannot qualify for post of Constitutional court of 166, whether acting or substantive.

50) This is because other judges have tenures that are linked to age and not term.

51) This critical part removes any doubt that all these Judges cannot hold office as Constitutional Court Judges because they are serving Supreme Court Judges which paragraph 13 of Sixth Schedule clearly states that they must serve as such until they retire. They cannot assume another term or tenure before completing the first one.

52) By looking at the composition of two forms of constitutional Court where a paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule court could only make a decision when the bench has 9 Supreme Court Judges sitting as a court but a section 166 constitutional court can make the same judgement with 3 judges , it clearly shows difference in value and competency in a single judge qualified as a section 166 court Judge as compared to a paragraph 18(2) of Sixth Schedule court Judge.

53) It is a requirement that every person seeking remedy in courts have the matter determined by a competent person, as section 177 shows clearly the qualification of a constitutional court judge as one with sound knowledge of constitutional law, it becomes a requirement that such sound knowledge has to be tested and proven by independent and competent body.

54) If these judges were sitting as 9 judges to decide over a matter that can be decided by 3 judges of Constitutional court appointed in terms of section 177, what makes the remainder 7 competent to do what they were not qualified to do for the past 7 years?

55) A president alone cannot select and appoint judges with sound knowledge of constitutional law. He has no capacity and authority to do so.

56) Besides being illegitimate it can be proven they are incompetent by simply showing that they sat as 9 judges for 7 solid years to decide matters that can be done by 3 judges and they have not acquired any proven credentials beside what they are.

57) It was by design of 2013 constitution that at the end of 7 years from May 2013 a fresh section 166 constitutional court was to be established by appointing fresh judges with fresh tenures and the old supreme court judges return to Supreme court.

58) It is also clear from section 86 of old constitution which these judges are serving on state that it is the post as Judge of Supreme Court that was not to be terminated before expiry of tenure, the post of Chief Justice or Deputy Chief Justice is administrative and could be terminated by demotion

59) It is common cause from section 185 that the Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice are the first two Judges of section 166 constitutional Court to take oaths of office from President then the Chief Justice will then swear in other judges of Constitutional Court.

60) It is common cause that Chief Justice Chidyausiku retired in 2017 as a Supreme Court Judge in the paragraph 18(2) of sixth schedule and by paragraph 18(3) of sixth schedule Justice Luke Malaba who was a Supreme Court Judge by appointment replaced him.

61) In turn Elizabeth Gwaunza who is a Supreme Court Judge by appointment replaced the vacancy left Malaba again in terms of paragraph 18(3) of sixth schedule.

62) She never assumed the status of a section 166 constitutional court judge or took judicial oath of office as Judge of constitutional court.

63) She is still a Supreme Court Judge by her appointment. She cannot at all swear in any person as Judge of section 166 constitutional court.

64) She can also not sit as a Judge of section 166 constitutional court even on an acting capacity.

65) While Musa Kika won a case against these judges on tenure of Judges and retirement of Luke Malaba and these Judges are said to have appealed the judgement, their legitimacy in the offices is not based on extension or no extension of tenure in section 186. These judges never served in terms of section 186 but are serving on terms of section 86 of old constitution.

66) This proves beyond doubt that these officers are all illegally in office.

67) Proves that a section 166 constitutional court is yet to be established.

68) From the constitution the judges who can occupy those offices can only come from people outside the bench.

69) Now that there is no legitimate Chief Justice or Deputy Chief Justice to hold interviews for such judges then there is a constitutional crisis.

70) We have seen that Luke Malaba swore in a Judge president of High Court. That exercise is illegitimate. Only a Chief Justice who personally is a Judge of s166 constitutional court can swear in a Judge President of High Court. As seen with all reason given above, Luke Malaba cannot swear anyone as a Judge President.

71) Section 162 of Zimbabwean constitution states clearly that Judicial authority is derived from the people of Zimbabwe. The President is only given Executive authority and cannot confer judicial authority to anyone.

72) Only people of Zimbabwe can restore this disorder.

73) This is where citizen convergence come in. It is not a political agenda but a legal requirement.

74) Since we all have individual views, only a referendum will then decide on what people would have discussed.

75) To conclude, lets all mobilise the Agenda in open and clear and non discriminatory way.

76) National elections for president and parliament cannot happen before this matter is resolved.

77) This is a requirement that every United Nations Member state undertook.

78) To clear doubt that elections 2023 cannot happen before this issue resolved citizens are referred to International Covenant for Civil and Civil and Political Right in that

(i) We are a sovereign state which adopted a constitutions to govern ourselves in line with article 1 which was cited above.
(ii) In article 2 Zimbabwe as a member state of UN which also ratified the ICCPR undertook give Judicial remedy to citizens and all people seeking remedy on violation of rights
(iii) Article 25 of the ICCPR give citizens right to vote and to be elected at genuine periodic elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret ballot, guaranteeing the free expression of the will of the electors.
(iv) Without a constitutional court bench appointed in terms of our laws no elections can be held.
(v) This is so because election start from nomination court and may have legal challenges but end by swearing in of the president by a Chief Justice.
(vi) That must seal the debate and have all citizens deliberate on it.
(vii) As we saw it in 2013 when Mr Jealous Mawarire forced election to happen it is clearly possible that UN first Protocol can be approached by a single citizen and as evidence is clear it will be a waste of time

Lets converge.

Suicide: Who Is At Risk ?

LIVE LIFE, WHO’s approach to suicide prevention, recommends the following key effective evidence-based interventions:

limit access to the means of suicide (e.g. pesticides, firearms, certain medications);
interact with the media for responsible reporting of suicide;
foster socio-emotional life skills in adolescents;
early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviours.,
These need to go hand-in-hand with the following foundational pillars: situation analysis, multisectoral collaboration, awareness raising, capacity building, financing, surveillance and monitoring and evaluation.

PICTURE- EFF Presidential Candidate Stages One Man Protest In Zambia Over Free Education

By A Correspondent- Opposition president for the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF), Kasonde Mwenda has staged a one man protest at Kitwe Square demanding free education from Grade 1 to university as promised by the recently elected UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.

The development torched a social media storm among Zambians and we publish below some of the reactions….

Leonard Mboloma BTh I think we need to manage freedom very well otherwise this behaviour is not acceptable from a sober person of high intellectual cadre

Andrew Sakazhila A protest that will fall on deaf ears because, you know very well a government in power for a month can’t produce that. Whether it was promised or not, its not happening any time soon. Plus the national budget is yet to be announced, this shock value type of protest won’t gain you followers but will instead bring a lot of questions concerning your mental health. Checks and balances from the opposition has been laughable and disappointing to say the least. The 3rd and 4th opposition leaders have been silent for a reason they are watching, listening and waiting for the appropriate time to do creditable checks and balances.

Kabanse Ntitima III It’s encouraging to see how people are now enjoying the Freedoms which were non- existent under the previous regime! Well done HH and the UPND government for letting people express themselves freely after so many years of oppression!!

Mumba Emmanuel Karma For a drop out to ask this question i don’t have a problem… that’s fine coz they don’t understand fully how the system works .. BUT A GRADUATE? Can’t process only a well doing economy can make that possible is very worrying..That’s IT. SEAT TEMBO is contagious and something should be done to him before for he mutates to something worse

Namakau Kapinda Go and ask the the person you voted for…you shall know them by their critiques, actions and comments. The 2.8 million are quiet, patient and humble coz they know Bally will fix it, it’s just a matter of time.Osati pangila chongo kwa pya please

Kondwelani Steyn Mugwede Are these the opposition we need to do checks and balances sure, free education with the current economy. We need to come to reality that not all promises made here on earth can be fulfilled fumo twakwatako na patience bane one month nangu ni abracadabra magician.

Hellen Safi Mmmm nemwe ba kasonde free education from 1 to university in a developing country? Yes this is was promised but you should understand that implementing such needs financial muscle as a nation. It is an attainable goal but needs to be implemented ‘Gradually’. We are are still a developing nation ba kasonde.

Munsaka Simoonga Chimuka I think most of these people have really proven far below even the level of taking up leadership at local level…Has HH and his governmet produced their budget?Even a grade 12 Civic Education pupil understands that the only way a government outlines expenditure for a financial year is through a national budget…Isn’t this madness and total exhibition of ignorance and unlearnedeness? We are still in the PF made financial year, where was in the PF budget a free Education slot?Mwenda is too young to exhibit this lack of insight even if it’s about attention seeking…PF failure made most mental patients fee worthy for presidency mweh

Victor Mpundu Happy to see we are now a sensible democracy with freedom of expression fully implemented. Mr. Mwenda, please carry on sir

Haakuwa Cornelius The privilege of having genuine freedom of speech n the right to demonstrate peacefully,if it were in ……… the chap wud hv bn bundled up by cops

MDC Alliance Challenges Zanu PF Dominance In Uzumba…

No more ghost voters in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe as Mdc Alliance Namibia twins the constituency to win Rural Zimbabwe for complete change!

20 September 2023

As part of Mdc Alliance Namibia’s pledge to morally, materially and financially support a robust rural mobilisation drive to win Zimbabwe for complete socio-economic transformation, the vibrant District Executive met the organic leadership, Honourable Happymore Chidziva on Zoom yesternight to map the way forward.

The district made it point blank to Hon Happymore Chidziva that they shall honour their their commitment to take part in the recruitment and radicalisation of the base ahead of 2023 harmonised elections.

The meeting was convened as a feedback to the tour that was launched on the 09th of September 2021 when our team physically visited Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe.

The feedback given by the energetic revolutionary Cde Bvondo energised social democrats in Namibia. Mdc Alliance Namibia expressed their dedication to initiate a serious voter registration campaign that will be polling station based.

The district did not hesitate to encourage other external assemblies subscribing to the ardent leader of the Mdc Alliance, President Advocate Nelson Chamisa to embrace participatory democracy by twinning other rural constituencies such as Chiredzi North, Mwenezi, Zaka East only to mention but a few so that the People’s Party can harvest the targeted 6 million voters in 2023. The diligent Minister responded positively hinting that Mdc Alliance South Africa is willing to adopt Chiredzi North.

Moreover, massive rural mobilisation drive is our only game changer that will definitely ensure that we fight voter apathy.

Change agents in Namibia also applauded the Honourable Minister and the party leadership for taking our national democratic revolution back to the people. Constitutional fighters resolved to take an role in the mobilisation of their family and community members besides Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe.

The idea of convincing our immediate family members became very fundamental in our deliberations because we realised that voter apathy is the malady enabling Zanupf morons to rig the people’s hardworn vote.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is pleading with every right thinking national to register to vote, vote in 2023 and defend the vote. People in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe received and considered our choice to work with them to win Zimbabwe for complete change.

Furthermore, visibility activities kick-started on the 09 September 2021 when a delagation from Namibia was send to join forces in Zimbabwe under the leadership of Hon Happymore Chidziva and others to successfully launch Mdc Alliance Namibia partnership with Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe.

Our honourable minister made very clear that in Uzumba people have agreed that “Chamisa Wamba Dia Wamba Ngaapinde hake mukomana”.

Everyone is saying “UChamisa kabangene”. Even in Namibia we are demanding President Advocate Nelson Chamisa to be the President because he won resoundingly with more 2 million votes.

As a district, we shall undertake visibility activities starting from Murehwa down to Pfungwe district targeting 6 million voters who will dislodge Zanupf Satanists from ill-gotten power.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is ready to sponsor income generating projects to better the livelihoods of our downtrodden masses in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe. Our people in Uzumba should prepare themselves for market gardening and other favourable activities that will assist them to Zanupf artificial poverty in the motherland. During the meeting , it was made clear that voter registration should commence forthwith. The district shall conduct diverse fundraising activities to finance voter registration, upkeep of polling agents as well as their training and transport to the campaigning team.

In a nutshell, Mdc Alliance Namibia vows to prosecute the national democratic revolution to its logical conclusion without any fear of being persecuted by prosecution. We shall spend the last drop of blood and sweat to constitutionally unseat the barbaric Zanupf Satanists and their surrogates. Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe is now a NO GO AREA for Zanupf. Lets all embrace participatory democracy as we gear up for 2023. No more ghosts voters in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe as Mdc Alliance Namibia partners it to ensure that Zanupf rigging shenanigans are thwarted with equal measure.

Our target remains at least R1 million in the next 18 months before the historic elections.

Panicky Mnangagwa Instigates Arrest Of MDC Alliance Members

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is directly involved in the arrest and persecution of perceived Zanu PF opponents, the MDC Alliance has said.

Speaking to ZimEye.com on Monday, MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo condemned the persecution of party members in Gutu.

Two MDC Alliance officials were arrested in Gutu on Sunday.

Hlatywayo said :
This is a clear political arrest engineered by a failed party called Zanu PF.

It has been abusing state institutions including police by giving instructions and political demands. It’s clear that it’s ZANU pf not police.

It is Zanu pf that is in panic mode and is afraid of the people that’s why it targets the people’s leaders. MDCA are leaders of society as it represents the interests of people in communities.

As we are speaking across the country, across the political divide all people are saying uChamisa Nguye Kaangena.

We demand the immediate and unconditional release of the Gutu leadership.

“It’s A Chamisa Season”

Tinashe Sambiri |MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson, Stephen Sarkozy Chuma says change is now on the horizon and the gun will not defeat the people of Zimbabwe.

Double Tragedy For Zim Man In Botswana

A Zimbabwean man based in Botswana suffered a terrible loss when his 14-year-old son accidentally shot and killed his 6-year-old sister. The father who is an illegal immigrant was arrested by the police and charged with negligence.

The sad incident occured at the Mogobewabasadi cattle post, Tonota Village last Wednesday. According to local publication The Voice, 41-year-old Sibangalizwe Ncube allegedly borrowed the firearm from one of the farms to scare away predators.

Unfortunately, while he was away, the two children started playing with the firearm which Ncube had allegedly failed to secure properly. This resulted in the tragic accident which saw the 6-year-old being shot dead.

After the incident, the police took the child to the clinic where she was certified dead. The police then arrested Ncube and charged him with negligence of the firearm which led to the death of the child.

The death of the 6-year-old has opened a can of worms for Ncube after the police added more charges. He was also charged with ill-treatment of his children as it was alleged that he neglected his other two children Melusi Ncube and Alex Ncube by staying with them at the cattle post denying them the right to education.

To further add to his woes, the distraught father was also charged with entering Botswana without travelling documents.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-6179472362501416&output=html&h=158&slotname=4728282224&adk=3586012903&adf=1751999611&pi=t.ma~as.4728282224&w=629&fwrn=4&lmt=1632131210&rafmt=11&psa=1&format=629×158&url=https%3A%2F%2Fiharare.com%2Fdouble-tragedy-boy-14-accidentally-shoots-kills-sister-6-father-arrested%2F%3Futm_source%3Donesignal-notification%26utm_medium%3Dweb-push&flash=0&wgl=1&adsid=ChEI8OKgigYQ-b6Wr8eou42kARI9ABRlNnyxIoYtd24kOUIUL7uf1lP4k9NZR6IqTi253G65YNA3WauTEgXFQMSBxtZHGVm8QL24QoMBF9IMvg&uach=WyJXaW5kb3dzIiwiMTAuMC4wIiwieDg2IiwiIiwiOTMuMC40NTc3LjgyIixbXSxudWxsLG51bGwsIjY0Il0.&dt=1632131002659&bpp=3&bdt=62197&idt=507&shv=r20210915&mjsv=m202109170101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3Df7e0bcbba8fbb580-22e5a7abafa700a2%3AT%3D1619596139%3ART%3D1619596139%3AS%3DALNI_MbSTXu4Z8TZJzu-tuUDMWpOgauqRg&prev_fmts=728×90%2C0x0%2C629x280%2C240x600&nras=1&correlator=5502019078519&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=168297428.1619596121&ga_sid=1632131003&ga_hid=1832059708&ga_fc=0&ga_cid=993360592.1632130888&rplot=4&u_tz=120&u_his=1&u_java=0&u_h=720&u_w=1280&u_ah=680&u_aw=1280&u_cd=24&u_nplug=3&u_nmime=4&adx=29&ady=2238&biw=1263&bih=535&scr_x=0&scr_y=117&eid=44747621%2C31062526&oid=3&pvsid=749871557245302&pem=860&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fiharare.com%2Fwp-content%2Fplugins%2Fonesignal-free-web-push-notifications%2Fsdk_files%2FOneSignalSDKWorker.js.php%3FappId%3D60498485-503d-4015-96d8-b1f8a18aa5da&eae=0&fc=896&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1280%2C0%2C1280%2C680%2C1280%2C552&vis=1&rsz=o%7C%7CeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&cms=2&fu=1152&bc=31&jar=2021-09-20-08&ifi=3&uci=a!3&btvi=3&fsb=1&xpc=0qBswsoook&p=https%3A//iharare.com&dtd=M

Ncube denied all charges and only pleaded guilty to travelling without documents. Appearing at the Francistown Magistrate Court, the 41-year-old said he was anguished by his daughter’s death.

“I even named her after my mother. Concerning the charge of entering Botswana without the travelling documents, I was forced by the situation back home. I was born in a time of war and after seeing people who were coming to Botswana I tagged along.”

He begged the court to release him on bail, saying that he was the breadwinner for his family. The magistrate was not convinced, however. Ncube was denied bail and remanded in custody to October 16th.

71yr Old Man In Ritual Rape Storm Of Own 14yr Old Daughter

By A Correspondent- A 14 year old girl was allegedly rap_ed by her father in a suspected ritual in Shurugwi. The other daughters have gone into hiding as they fear the same fate.

The victim’s abuse at the hands of her 71-year-old father came to light after she fell preg_nant.

On the discovery of the preg_nancy, the father reportedly forced the victim to accuse her brother-in-law to be responsible for the preg_nancy leading to the latter’s arrest.

However, when she appeared in court, she revealed that it was her own father, not the brother in law, who rap_ed her.

This led to the father’s arrest. As it stands both men are appearing in court for rap_ing the same girl.

To add salt to the wound, the victim’s biological mother threatened to commit suicide over the incarceration of the father.

One of the seven daughters also claims to have been abused; she told H-Metro that they were living in fear over the threats made by the mother.

“We are now worried and living in fear at home following the arrest of our father,” said one of the daughters.

“Instead of feeling sorry for the 14-year-old girl, our mother is threatening to commit suicide if the case takes father to prison.

“Hanzi mwana asungisirei baba angadai angoramba achipomedzera mukwasha kuti baba vasaendeswe kujeri.

“This unbelievable reaction by our mother has taken us aback that we are now suspecting that the two were aware and this could be linked to juju.

“How can a mother forsake her own child whose life has been ruined and fight to protect a merciless father.

“We are unsettled and wondering about the future when parents agree to destroy our life in such an evil way.

“We are appealing for help in finding ways to protect us from such evil acts as well as bringing peace between us and our mother,” said one of the daughters.

The father appeared before Shurugwi magistrate Precy Mukumba and the State was represented by Tafadzwa Guzete.

It was during the trial of Magigani when the victim disclosed her father as the one responsible for her preg_nancy leading to the arrest.

It is the State’s case that the 71-year-old man was at home with the complainant aged 14 years who is his daughter while her mother was not present.

The complainant went to the accused’s bedroom with the intention to give him his supper.

The court heard that he closed the door and threatened to kill the complainant if she refused to comply with his demands.

It is the State case that the accused was holding a knife and undressed the complainant and rap_ed her.

The father and his son-in-law are facing rap_e charges.

They were remanded to October 1.

In another related case, a 15-year-old girl was impreg_nated by her father at Sebanga Extension in Shurugwi.

It is the State’s case that the accused person took his daughter aged 15 years to Chrome Mine site where he rap_ed her on several occasions saying he was fulfilling his rituals.

The matter came to light when the complainant narrated the story to her maternal grandmother who then reported the case to police.

The accused person had unprotected se_xual intercourse with the complainant and she got preg_nant.

WORLD NEWS: San Marino Holds Referendum To Decide On Legalizing Abortion

SAN MARINO, Sept 20 (Reuters) – One of Europe’s staunchest opponents to legal abortion could fall on Sunday when San Marino, a tiny and deeply Catholic republic landlocked in Italy, holds a referendum to overturn a law dating back to 1865.

A “Yes” vote will bring some relief for pro-choice supporters further afield who have been dismayed as authorities in countries like Poland and in the U.S. state of Texas have tightened laws.

In the mountainous enclave of 33,000 people, women who end their pregnancies risk three years’ imprisonment. The term is twice as long for anyone who carries out their abortion.

As the campaign enters its final week emotions are running high between traditionalists and the referendum’s promoters, with hard-hitting posters on the medieval streets.

Vanessa Muratori, a member of the San Marino Women’s Union, believes the Sept. 26 plebiscite will crown a personal 18-year battle to give San Marino women the same rights as in Italy, where abortion has been legal since 1978.

“I care about my country and I want it to be civilised,” she says. “I feel like a link in a chain of women’s emancipation that goes beyond San Marino.”

Elsewhere in Europe, the Mediterranean island of Malta, and the micro-states of Andorra and the Vatican City, another Italian enclave, still ban abortion altogether.

Muratori set up a feminist association in 1994 and presented a bill to legalise abortion to San Marino’s legislative council in 2003. It received just two votes in favour and 16 against.

The experience brought home to her the extent of the religion-based resistance to change, and convinced her that a well prepared campaign was needed to win over her compatriots’ hearts and minds.

Success on Sunday will allow abortion up to 12 weeks of pregnancy and thereafter only in the case of the mother’s life being in danger or of grave malformation of the foetus.

SLOW PROGRESS

In Europe’s last referendum on abortion, the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar voted in June to ease what remain extremely strict curbs.

Ireland legalised abortion in a far higher-profile referendum in 2018, while this month the state of Texas went in the other direction, introducing a law that bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

Social progress has always been slow in San Marino.

Women did not get the right to vote until 1960, 14 years after surrounding Italy, and have only been allowed to hold political office since 1974. Divorce was legalised in 1986, some 16 years after Italy.

Nonetheless, Muratori’s Women’s Union, campaigning from a gazebo in a children’s playground near the Italian border, has made inroads into the conservative mentality, and gathered 3,000 signatures to launch the vote, three times more than required.

“From my point of view this referendum shouldn’t even be necessary, choosing whether to have a baby or not should be part of a woman’s human freedom,” said Anita Alvarez, a 20-year-old student.

The ‘No’ campaign is equally determined. Using the slogan “one of us,” its core message is that the unborn child should have the same rights as all San Marino citizens.

Marina Corsi, a pharmacist active with the ‘NO’ committee, said this principle should not be compromised even in cases of rape or the certainty of severe disability for the unborn baby.

“It is not the baby who is guilty in rape cases, it is the rapist who should be punished, not the child,” she said.

As things stand, San Marino women wanting an abortion normally go to Italy, where they can only get one privately, at a cost of around 1,500 euros ($1,766).

“Women are forced to seek healthcare …as criminals because they are rejected by their own state,” said Karen Pruccoli, a businesswoman who is a member of the ‘YES’ committee backing the referendum.

#NgaapindeHakeMukomana Takes Social Media By Storm

By A Correspondent| A new and exciting Twitter Hashtag #NgaapindeHakeMukomana has taken social media by storm with thousands of opposition supporters and members taking turns to tweet using the now popular line that refers to MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s bid to win the 2023 presidential elections.

The hashtag is meant to rival Zanu PF’s #EDTheGameChanger popularised by Information Secretary Nick Mangwana and his counterpart George Charamba among other group of pro-ruling party social media users.

MDC Alliance Organising secretary Amos Chibaya was also filmed addressing a gathering where the “Ngaapinde hake mukomana” appeared to be popular and exciting to party members in attendance.

Some have even created abbreviated posters to psyche up people ahead of an exciting plebiscite where the two main parties Zanu PF and MDC Alliance are targeting five and six million voters respectively.

FULL THREAD: Chamisa Comes Face To Face With Poverty On The Countryside

Warrant Of Arrest For Tendai Biti

By Jane Mlambo| Harare magistrate Chido Garwe has issued a warrant of arrest against former Finance Minister Tendai Biti after he failed to appear in court for trial.

Biti is facing allegations of assaulting a Russian national and Pokugara Properties Chief Operations Officer, Tatiana Aleshina outside the Harare Magistrates Court.

His lawyer Aleck Muchadehama was not present in court to represent his client.

This led senior prosecutor Michael Reza to apply for a warrant of arrest.

Aleshina claims that on November 30 last year as she was about to leave the court gallery after a court session, Biti allegedly threatened to harm her.

She said the MDC Alliance vice president insulted and assaulted her outside the courtroom but within the complex premises.

State Prosecutors Fingered For Targeted Victimization Of Harare Lawyer

Two chief public prosecutors – Rosa Takuva and Justin Uladi – could face a criminal probe after an alleged clandestine maneuver to “destroy” Harare lawyer Admire Rubaya was unmasked.

A WhatsApp conversation between the two officials scheming against Rubaya accidentally leaked, exposing their alleged scheme.

Uladi and Takuva, who were both recently appointed by the National Prosecution Authority as acting Deputy Prosecutor-Generals, were reportedly caught pants down when their communication leaked.

NewsDay is in possession of communication between the two prosecutors plotting Rubaya’s downfall.

“Mastermind ndi [is] Rubaya. Rubaya was Jefat’s [lawyer] ku Plumtree trial. He’s the one who created the defence yekuti [that] the gold belongs to Sibanda. A defence he has used in previous trials. Dai Jefat akatoita plead hake tomushandisa against Rubaya (I hope he pleads guilty so that we can use him against Rubaya),” Takuva said in the conversation.

Uladi responded by urging her to pass the information to the media, and offered to connect her to a journalist, who could assist to publish the story.

In the communication, Takuva stated that Rubaya was her main target in the prosecution case before the High Court because she believed that the Harare lawyer was the mastermind of Jefat Chaganda’s defence in a gold smuggling case at the Plumtree Magistrates Court.

Chaganda said the gold belonged to one Lovemore Sibanda.

Takuva alleged that Rubaya had used a similar defence in other gold matters that he appeared as a defence counsel.

In the conversation, Takuva advised Uladi of her plot to coerce Chaganda to plead guilty to the charges before the High Court so that she could use him to implicate Rubaya in the pending trial.

Both Uladi and Takuva denied knowledge of the chats, demanding to know their source.

“I have no comment over that because I know nothing about it,” Uladi said.

Takuva said: “I have no knowledge about that chat.”

Rubaya, together with eight others, is facing allegations of theft of gold from Plumtree Police Station and obstruction of justice before the High Court in Bulawayo over the role he played in representing Chaganda in a gold smuggling case at Plumtree Regional Magistrates Court.

Rubaya represented Chaganda sometime in 2018. Chaganda was facing charges of smuggling and unlawful possession of about 14kg of gold. He was acquitted by a Plumtree regional magistrate. The gold was released to Sibanda.

Rubaya and Chaganda were subsequently arrested together with the Plumtree regional magistrate Timeon Makunde, prosecutor Stanley Chinyanganya and all the detectives who had arrested Chaganda.

The detectives were Ginger Vhiyano, Ladislous Tinacho, Tranos Ruvando, Sidingimuzi Ncube and Ladislous Tambooneyi.

They were all hauled to the High Court in Bulawayo for trial before the beleaguered Justice Thompson Mabhikwa.

Rubaya’s case had commenced before Justice Joseph Musakwa before his recent elevation to the Supreme Court bench.

Chaganda defaulted on May 21, 2021, but was rearrested on September 14, 2021 resulting in bail revocation.

It is now feared that since Chaganda is now at Khami Remand Prison, Takuva could easily access Chaganda to cajole him to abandon his defence and contrive a plot to crush Rubaya.

A Harare lawyer, who refused to be named for fear of victimisation, said “after reading the WhatsApp chats, there was every reason for law enforcement agents, including the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, to act because this vexatious conduct of Takuva and Uladi is criminal abuse of office and prosecutorial authority on their part as senior prosecutors.”

Another lawyer added: “It is crystal clear that they are using their prosecutorial powers to victimise Rubaya for successfully prosecuting Chaganda’s defence during the Plumtree trial. Public prosecutors are sworn to exercise their functions without prejudice or bias.

“Uladi is Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi’s prodigy, who has, until the recently leaked communication, characterised allegations against Rubaya as “clumsy and senseless”.

Rubaya refused to comment.

Harare, Ken Sharpe’s Sunshine Development Deal Was Unprocedural And Grossly Irregular: Govt

By A Correspondent| The government of Zimbabwe has reportedly dismissed as Unprocedural and grossly irregular, the move by City of Harare to transfer Warren Hills Golf Club to Sunshine Development Private Limited a joint venture company between Harare and controversial businessman Kenneth Raydon Sharpe.

According to High Court papers filed by Warren Hills Golf Club in opposition to a scandalous plan to convert Warren Hills Golf Club, a recreational facility into a residential area, the club said the disposal of the recreational facility was grossly irregular and done without ministerial consent as well as full council approval.

“Investigations by the Ministry of Local Government still in progress have to date established unprocedural and grossly irregular disposal of reserved land to plaintiff without informing the sitting lessee change of use, full council approval and ministerial consent

“By reason of investigations aforesaid, the national agency investigating corruption (ZACC) was and is seized with the matter and is currently unravelling the corrupt and unprocedural activities that created the title deed relied on by plaintiff with a view to regularity in the matter,” said Warren Hills Golf Club.

The club also dismissed Sunshine Development private limited as the lawful and legitimate owners of the 80 hectare land at the centre of the dispute.

“In the premises plaintiff is not lawful and legitimate owner of the land occupied and used by defendant and has no legal right to demand rent from defendant or its removal from the premises,” added Warren Hills Golf Club.

Sunshine Development which is 70 percent owned by Sharpe is attempting to evict Warren Hills Golf Club which recently renewed its lease with City of Harare by a further 20 years.

The Sharpe owned company is insisting that the 80 hectares where the golf course is sitting on was transferred from City of Harare as part of the joint venture agreement that culminated in Sunshine Development Private Limited.

City of Harare is a minority shareholder in Sunshine Development with 30 percent shares.

The municipality has since availed its own commitment of land while according Shadreck Tondori in another litigation case against Sharpe, Minister of Local Government and Public Works, the controversial businessman has not shown what it contributed to justify a 70% shareholding.

MSU Mysteriously Dies In Own Home

By A Correspondent- A Midlands State University philosophy lecturer, Ishmael Jeko, was found dead in his house last Friday.

Jeko was vice-president of Midlands State University Lecturers Association (MSULA).

He was recently fired from work under unclear circumstances and is suspected to have died from stress.

According to a source who requested anonymity, Jeko’s sudden dismissal from employment must have affected him.

He becomes the fourth MSU employee to die suddenly after a brush with the management in a short period of time.

This was after Solomon Raja from MSU’s Works and Estates Department collapsed and died in his house last year after a prolonged suspension from duty without salary and benefits.

Earlier, Abious Marozva, an administrator at MSU, had collapsed and died in his house after a demotion from lectureship to an administrative role.

A few months earlier, Samson Rwadzi Mhlahlo died at his Southdowns home after being demoted from the post of executive dean of Social Sciences to the post of acting director of Press and publications.

He was no longer an academic.

“This is clearly worrisome. Stress levels at MSU seem to have gone up lately and incidentally, those collapsing and dying would have had an abrasion of some sort with leadership,” the source said.

“For instance, in the past, instead of one’s suspension without salary and benefits lasting 14 days in line with the Labour Act, at MSU, one could be suspended in perpetuity.”

MSULA president Farai Ncube refused to comment on the matter saying he was at his farm.

“I am at the farm. I can’t comment now. I will call you later,” he said.

Meanwhile, a leaked MSU memo seen by NewsDay dated August 25, 2021 and signed by registrar Tinashe Zishiri shows more heads are set to roll.

Part of the memo read: “Subject: Restructuring and rationalisation progress update.

“Restructuring and rationalisation should be complete by the end of the year. Restructuring and rationalisation of the catering services department is almost complete.

“The next phase of restructuring and rationalisation will cover the Faculty of Social Sciences and non-teaching departments, namely the human resources department, projects and maintenance department and central services and amenities department.

“Communication on voluntary retrenchment, early retirement and compulsory retrenchment targeting the above-mentioned will be circulated in due course.”

MSU spokesperson Mirirai Shorwa Mawere could not be reached for comment as her mobile went unanswered.

Zishiri refused to comment saying he was late for his flight.

“I can’t say anything now because I have to catch a flight in a few minutes. How can I comment without seeing you in person? You should make a courtesy call and I can comment on everything you asked face-to-face,” he said.-newsday

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Anti Tsvangirai Chief Dethroned, But It’s Auxillia Mnangagwa Who’s Imposed An Armed Robber As Replacement

By A Correspondent | First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa drove her military armed motorcade to Chiweshe to seize the Negomo chieftainship for her brother, a convicted armed robber, Paradzai Kutyauripo, who already has a senior job in govt where he serves as the Director Of State Residences.

This is despite the fact that her family has no right to the chieftainship, and she took advantage because Chief Negomo (Lucious Chitsinde) has been in an acting capacity.

Auxillia is a never-to-be chief, blood descendant of a non deserving ancestor under the ancient Gorejena. Auxilliah is the great granddaughter of the ancient Chinanzvavana, who is the young brother to the ancient Mupfunya. But even if Mupfunya was due for chieftainship, he has already had his term, and he alone can get it, ZimEye hears.

The family tree

Muroro and Zhengeni are brothers, and they alternate the chieftainship. (there is a traditional agreement that the chieftainship stays for more times under Muroro).

The children of Mr Muroro are as follows: Gorejena( the first born of Muroro).

Gorejena had 8 wives, with 8 first borns from each mother, and the chieftainship operates under the following rules-

1st rule: when you have wives, the first son is the one who becomes chief.

2nd rule: If a wife is the type that was inherited traditionally, the kids have no right to chieftainship.

3rd rule: If the ancestor was convicted of witchcraft or murder, none of descendants will inherit.

4th rule: If a distant ancestor possesses anyone in the family, that family can’t get chieftainship.

Out of Gorejena’s sons, only 4 can be chief. Of those 4, one of them is Mupfunya (chieftainship held in 1903) who has already had his term.

Gorejena’s sons are as follows – Mupfunya (has 6 other brothers). The First Lady is a great granddaughter of Chinanzvavana, who is the young brother to Mupfunya. But even if Mupfunya was due for chieftainship, he has already had his term, and he alone can get it.

It was then agreed that Bonde (Gorejena’s 8th Firstborn) takes over.

After this agreement, the family went to a representative of the Chiefs’ council, Chief Nembiri who reported saying he had done his part back in 2018. But after this, documents began disappearing, the family tells ZimEye.

In the course of all this, the First Lady rushed to indicate she is interested in the chieftainship. She then said she wants her brother, Paradzai Kutyauripo, who is Director Of State House to take over. Video footage at the homestead shows the current chief Negomo’s wife screaming out saying Auxillia’s police entourage even want to seize her clothes.

Kutyauripo is a convicted armed robber of 4 years in Chikurubi Maximum Prison who was given early release through a presidential amnesty when Auxillia’s husband, Mnangagwa was Justice Minister, ZimEye reveals in a separate investigation report 2 years ago.

What was too apparent in all the developments is that the First Lady is out of depth on what is happening, a source told ZimEye.

On the Thursday, she drove her entire motorcade and soldiers to the homestead to frogmarch family heads to a meeting and began making demands.

Auxillia Mnangagwa, who is a very forceful character, and is known for assaulting even state agents in public, went on to demand saying, ‘if you all don’t want this to happen, I will take the pin myself and wear it.’

During the commotion, Emmerson Mnangagwa following a tip off rammed his phone on her and started asking her where she was, since she had told him she is traveling to their family farm. She in response confessed saying she had travelled to Chiweshe “to sort a difficult matter to do with the chieftainship.”

Mrs Mnangagwa had not responded to questions at the time of writing.

ZimEye is following up on the story.

Tragedy As 3 Sisters Perish In Horror Mvurwi Crash

By A Correspondent- Four people, including three sisters, perished in a road accident at Impinge Farm in Mvurwi yesterday when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road, uprooted trees and overturned.

Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo was not picking calls, but Mazowe North legislator Campion Mugweni (Zanu PF) confirmed the accident.

“I can confirm a fatal road accident that occurred in Mvurwi (this morning), where three sisters died on the spot and one male adult. Their names are being withheld until their next of kin are advised. It is so sad to note that all the deceased are from Mvurwi,” Mugweni
said.

It is further alleged that the vehicle had five passengers on board and the survivor, a brother to the diseased sisters, is admitted at Guruve District Hospital, where his condition is believed to be serious.

According to witnesses, the accident was as result of speeding as well as drinking and driving.

“This vehicle was speeding, so it could not stop when the driver lost control. The car was heading towards Guruve and beer bottles were scattered all over the scene of the accident,” a witness, who chose to identify herself by her first name, Belinda, said.

Mugweni, who is now popular for attending funerals and assisting bereaved families, pledged to assist financially.

“I am going to assist the bereaved families as I always do because this is the time people need me the most for comfort as their Member of Parliament,” he said.

TIMB Fires Warning Shots At Non Paying Tobacco Companies

tobacco

By A Correspondent- The Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) has threatened to deregister tobacco companies that renege on paying for services rendered.

TIMB chief executive Meanwell Gudu said this while responding to questions regarding the ongoing impasse between Voedsel Tobacco Company and transporters over non-payment for services.

The company has been shifting goalposts regarding payment of transporters who ferried tobacco from farmers to the company during this year’s selling season which started in March.

‘‘Our call to both transporters and farmers is to report non-payment issues on time during the season so that the TIMB can effectively intervene and make mitigation measures for everyone concerned,” Gudu said.

“It is more effective during the selling season as the company can be suspended from conducting sales.”

Gudu said TIMB had since intervened to ensure the 15 transporters who were owed over US$60 000 were paid.

More transporters are now coming out in the open, claiming they had not been paid their dues by Voedsel.

Tobacco Farmers Union president Believe Tevera implored TIMB to “delist” Voedsel for not paying transporters.

“TIMB must revoke Voedsel’s licence as it has proved beyond any doubt that it is incapacitated to contract farmers and make payments on time,” Tevera said.

“Tobacco is a cash crop and seasonal. We expect payments to be done urgently. We cannot allow a company to continue contracting farmers in Zimbabwe when it is obvious it can’t pay, compromising the lives of more than a thousand farmers and transporters, including those who directly or indirectly depend on them.”

Tobacco Farmers and Transporters Union Mashonaland Central chairperson Stayme Manyika said a lot of transporters and farmers had not been paid by Voedsel.

‘‘We have some transporters who are also tobacco farmers, but were not paid a single cent by Voedsel,” Manyika said.

“They are disgruntled that the company failed to pay them on time. The transporters need assistance because the company has failed to pay despite promising several times.”

The affected farmers started ferrying tobacco in April.

They are from Mt Darwin, Dotito, Guruve, Chakoma, and Mvurwi among other areas. Transporters from Hurungwe, Mvurwi and Rusape, among others, demonstrated on Monday and held a vigil at the company’s Karoi depot.

Voedsel managing director Innocent Mahufe last Monday promised to settle the debt.-newsday

“We Have Adequate Stocks Of Vehicle Registration Plates”: Gvt

By A Correspondent- Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said the government now has adequate stocks of vehicle registration plates.

He said it will be mandatory by December for every vehicle to have number plates to reduce cases of hit-and-run by unregistered vehicles.

Mhona made the remarks while addressing Parliament on the road carnage recently.

He said the country was set to receive about 151 000 pairs of number places in December and build a supply of over 18 months.

Said Mhona:

… we received adequate stocks of number plates this past month.

According to the information that we have, we have about 35 000 unregistered vehicles and we have received 37 000 pairs of numbers.

It means that gap is going to be bridged. However, at the end of October, we are going to receive 151 500 and the consumption of number plates should just give you information.

He said the country’s daily demand for number plates was 3 000, translating to 90 000 per month.

Said Mhona:

This is what we import after the advent of the statutory instrument that banned cars above 10 years.

Before that, it was 7 000 to 8 000, so now we are currently importing about 6 000 vehicles. So, it means we will then have a surplus above that.

It means by the end of October, if we then receive our batch for 151 000 for those who can do their mathematics, it means we will have almost close to 18 months’ adequate supply of number plates.

Mhona also revealed that the country experienced over 7 984 road accidents in which 282 people lost their lives and 1 373 got injured in the first quarter of the year.

He said his ministry had come up with a strategy to end road carnage which will be rolled out soon.

“No Religious Objection To COVID-19 Vaccination In Hinduism”

Rajan Zed

Hindus have no theological objection to COVID-19 vaccination, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed clarified in a statement Nevada (USA) today.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stated that under the present circumstances, COVID-19 vaccine did not seem to be in conflict with religious tenets and practices of Hinduism; oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.2 billion adherents.

As COVID-19 vaccine seemed to be consistent with Hindu beliefs; there was no prohibition against it and it was morally permissible to accept vaccine. So, evidently, religious exemption was not needed for practicing Hindus; Rajan Zed indicated.

Zed further says: Working for the well-being of all humankind is kind of a duty in Hinduism. Hindus have heartfelt concern and genuine love for all the God’s children and are expected to continue working at the aim of alleviating suffering. We should do all we can possibly do to curb COVID-19, Zed added.

Rajan Zed noted that ancient Hindu text Bhagavad-Gita had been reminding us:…the wise work for the welfare of the world, without thought for themselves…Perform all work carefully, guided by compassion.

Zanu Pf Restructuring Unearthes Pandora’s Box On ED, VP Chiwenga Rift

Marry, VP Chiwenga, ED

By A Correspondent- The ZANU PF restructuring exercise has exposed deep-rooted factionalism as well as infighting fuelled by jostling for positions ahead of the party’s provincial elections.

The party is set to conduct provincial elections next month to elect provincial executives.

The fights have divided party members, with some coalescing around President Emmerson Mnangagwa while others are allegedly backing his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga.

Party structures held meetings across provinces at the weekend where they endorsed Mnangagwa as the party’s candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Mnangagwa is today set to preside over a politburo meeting following the weekend inter-district and provincial co-ordinating committee meetings.

A petition by about 6 000 party members from Mashonaland East alleged serious factional fights and unscrupulous behaviour by party members.

It painted a picture of a party in shambles.

The petition, addressed to acting provincial chairperson Michael Madanha, comes as the ruling party embark on elections tomorrow to choose district executive members.

“This petition is against the compilation of factional cell membership registers and the imposition of executive committees at cell, branch and district levels in Murewa South constituency,” the petition read in part.

“This is being done contrary to instructions from the (acting) national political commissar (Patrick Chinamasa) to restructure the party in a transparent and democratic manner, starting with compilation of new cell membership registers.”

Another fight in Murewa South is over the vacant parliamentary seat following the death of former Transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza. The jostling for the position has caused tension in the district.

“Cell registers inclusive of the cell executive committees were compiled secretly along factional lines by a few individuals who were appointed as district executive committee members during the run up to the 2018 elections.

“Most of the elected district executive committee members were removed and replaced by campaign committee members of the late MP comrade JB Matiza,” the petition read in part.

“These are the de facto district executive committees implementing shenanigans to exclude from cell registers and executive committees all those party members they perceive as rivals.”

Madanha told a provincial co-ordinating committee (PCC) meeting in Marondera on Saturday that there was need for party members to follow stipulated guidelines during the ongoing restructuring exercise.

In Manicaland, politburo member Simbarashe Mumbengegwi confirmed divisions in the province and in an attempt to douse the fires, warned members against unethical conduct.

“We don’t need mudslinging in the party. If we are in elections this does not mean that we are in a war. We have realised some people have started campaigns against the politburo decision not to campaign and that is gross indiscipline,” he said.

“Some are using social media to attack each other and that is not good. Let’s have discipline in the party and that is critical.”

Three candidates are vying for the provincial chairmanship.

The incumbent, Mike Madiro is facing a challenge from Makoni district co-ordination committee chairperson Albert Nyakuedzwa and Chipinge South MP Enock Porusingazi.

Nyanga North MP Chido Sanyatwe is favourite to land the women’s league top job, but is facing challenge from the incumbent Happiness Nyakuedzwa.

Mnangagwa’s home province, Midlands, has also witnessed fierce battles involving a camp linked to State Security minister Owen Ncube and incumbent provincial chairman Daniel Mackenzie-Ncube.

The fight has reportedly turned tribal with a camp linked to Ncube describing Mackenzie-Ncube and his backers as “dissidents” and Zapu, invoking memories of the infamous 1980s Gukurahundi massacres that resulted in the death of over 20 000 people in the region.

“A lot is happening on the ground to ensure the chairman (Mackenzie-Ncube) pulls out of the race, but that has failed. The reality now is the two will face each other in the polls and the chairman will likely win it despite all attempts by the other camp,” a source said.

Adverts promoting Ncube have been circulating on social media, describing him as the man behind massive infrastructural development, including construction of base stations and roads in the province.

There are also allegations that machete gangs have resurfaced in the province to prop up the State security minister.

In Masvingo, a camp closely linked to the provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira has sensationally claimed that Chiwenga was behind a plot to arrest the Provincial Affairs minister to ensure that he does not retain the party provincial chairperson position.

There were claims in Mashonaland Central that there was an attempt on the life of aspiring provincial chairperson Lazarus Dokora.

Dokora is facing off against Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe for the chairmanship amid accusations and counter accusations of vote-buying.

Our Task Is To Save Nation’s Pride- Mapeza

COVID Hit Broke Tobacco Firms To Be De-Registered

Tobacco yields at auction floors

The Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) has threatened to deregister tobacco companies that renege on paying for services rendered.

Mnangagwa Blocks Chadzamira Prosecution

Emmerson Mnangagwa is blocking attempts to bring to book the minister of State for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira (pictured), who was arrested by investigators from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) on allegations of corruptly allocating land to his proxies in the province, but the anti-corruption body has not given up on the case, The NewsHawks reported.

Chadzamira was briefly arrested by Zacc investigators last Monday but prosecutors at Masvingo magistrates’ court declined to arraign him and advised the anti-corruption watchdog that the case will proceed by way of summons.

This was after Chadzamira sought Mnangagwa’s help after Zacc swooped in on him following investigations.

Officials in Masvingo say Mnangagwa’s intervention proves that his anti-corruption fight is not sincere. Mnangagwa’s stance is in sharp contrast to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s “zero tolerance” to corruption, where he publicly declared that he will never interfere with the operations of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Zambia in its duties.

Hichilema made the announcement as he opened the first session of the 13th national assembly. Zambia’s anti-corruption body on Wednesday welcomed Hichilema’s statement. The body also revealed that 87 corruption cases had been reported since Zambia’s election last month, 55 of which related to politically exposed persons.

Chadzamira is Mnangagwa’s political ally but has been facing pressure from a faction aligned to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga which wants him arrested for corruption. There is also a push for him to be suspended from the party on corruption allegations.

In January 2020 Chadzamira as the chairperson of the provincial lands committee instructed Chiredzi district lands committee through a phone call to stop convening meetings. Despite the ban, several people continued to receive land with the approval of the provincial leadership in the Lowveld district, a move which angered locals and war veterans.

A high-powered delegation of war veterans from Chiredzi visited Chiwenga’s office to lodge the complaint against Chadzamira, a move which resulted in the former military commander ordering the minister of state to reverse the allocations.

Beneficiaries were allocated plots under a project developed by Tongaat Hullet for government in Hippo Valley. Chiwenga cited corruption and segregation of the Chiredzi people in the project as reasons for the reversal.

A senior Zanu-PF official in Masvingo told The NewsHawks that were it was not for Mnangwaga, Chadzamira could have been locked up. He said Chadzamira was one of Mnangagwa’s strongest allies in the province from the time Mugabe was toppled through a coup in November 2017.

“These fights against Chadzamira in the province are not yet over. The faction aligned to Chiwenga is still pushing for his arrest and they are pushing for his arrest and suspension from government. The team is not resting on its quest to have this man arrested. This faction is now gaining ground in Masvingo, a province which is always used by Zanu-PF leaders as a battleground to declare their interests” said the official. A senior government official in Masvingo told The NewsHawks that the case against Chadzamira is more political than criminal since what he is accused of is similar to what other government officials are doing. – NewsHawks

Auxillia Takes San Children To Vic Falls

There is truly a first time for everything, but flying in a plane and touring the Majestic Victoria Falls is a lifetime experience for children from the previously marginalised San community in Makhulela area, Thwayithwayi Village under Bulilima District.

Indeed, Christmas has come early for them courtesy of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa who has honoured her promise to take them on a week-long holiday to Victoria Falls with exciting packages that include air travel, boat cruises, game drives and sleeping in hotels.

Amai Mnangagwa visited the community last month with her Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba programme where she promised to take the children on holiday as part of her drive to integrate previously marginalised communities with the rest of the country.

The children are indeed having the time of their lives as they had never set foot outside their community, neither had they visited a big city.

The San community in Zimbabwe is one of the indigenous tribes that have had a rather belated encounter with modernisation and globalisation.

Their transition from a hunting and gathering economy to an agro-capitalist economy has been slow, hence the First Lady’s involvement in assisting the community to set foot in the development train.

Her first visit to the area was in 2018 where, through her Angel of Hope Foundation, she introduced nutrition gardens in the community and assisted with the provision of modern houses and sanitary facilities.

Under her mantra of not leaving anyone behind, the First Lady has been working closely with the community and involving the community in awareness campaigns against Covid-19, cancer and other ailments.

The girls and boys on the trip are aged between 11 and 15 and drawn from ECD to Grade Five.

Their ages tell a lot about how children in the community delay going to school.

They are accompanied by their village head Mrs Matjena Ncube and two other village elders Mrs Agnes Bhule and Mrs Samkeliso Dube.

They arrived in Bulawayo on Thursday morning and put up at Motsamai Lodge where they had their meals before embarking on a Heritage Corridor Tour of the city which took them to the Natural History Museum, St Mary’s Cathedral Basilica and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue in the CBD.

Their tour guide was Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s marketing executive and former Miss Zimbabwe Bongani Dhlakama.

At each venue, they were given a detailed tour of what was there, like at the St Mary’s Basilica Cathedral, Archbishop Alex Thomas explained to them when it was built and how significant the place is to the history of Zimbabwe, Africa and the Roman Catholic Church.

They landed at Victoria Falls International Airport on Friday morning. When an Air Zimbabwe flight landed at 9.20AM, first to come out were the timidly looking group of boys and girls, with school bags on their backs.

Because of fear of the unknown, they kept close to each other as they walked to the domestic terminal for Covid-19 procedures that included sanitising and temperature checks.

A shuttle bus was waiting to take them to a hotel where they checked in, had their breakfast before going on an afternoon game drive.

Along the way, they were excited to see baboons which they could not differentiate from monkeys as they said they were no baboons in Bulilima.

Saturday was also packed with a cocktail of activities. The group toured the Rainforest and Victoria Falls Bridge among other activities.

They were also taken to the Fuller Forest on Sunday where they had a tour of the forest and lion encounter.

Everything was new to them and they were enjoying.

After touring the Fuller Forest, they were taken back to their hotel for lunch where they enjoyed processed food using fork and knife, something they had never done.

The hotel staff was so welcoming and taught them how to use the cutlery. It was an experience of a lifetime.

Thanking the mother of the nation, Mrs Ncube said she was excited to be in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls for the first time.

“I am very happy to have seen Victoria Falls for the first time in my life. I want to thank the First Lady for what she has done for us as a community. This shows she loves all her children countrywide including us the San community.

She does not select her children and we are so grateful especially for affording our children such an experience” she said.

Ms Ncube said the children were now inspired to better their lives.

“Imagine people from the San community in an airplane, it’s unbelievable. We saw the Bulawayo city, now we are in Victoria Falls where we visited many places and everything was new for us. What the First Lady has done, has opened the eyes of these young children so that they can see how life on the other side is like,” she said.

One of the children, Nhlanhla Tshuma (13) a Grade Two pupil at Makhulela Primary School said the trip was an eye opener.

He said together with others they enjoyed a whole lot of packages which are largely for the well-heeled.

Girls and Boys from the San Community and their Makulela village head Mrs Matjena Ncube tour the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue, National Art Gallery in Bulawayo, Railway Museum and other places on their maiden tour of Bulawayo from their Makulela Village in Plumtree courtesy of the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa

“I cannot believe this is true. At times I pinch myself just to check whether I am not daydreaming. I am so excited to be part of this trip. I had neither boarded a bus nor an aeroplane. What the First Lady has done for me will forever remain on my mind. When I go back home I will share information about what I have seen with my parents and siblings.

We are enjoying good food and sleeping in hotels like kings. This is just exciting,” he said.

Another, Tholakele Ncube (16) also a pupil at Makhulela Primary School who is in Grade Five added that it was a great experience being in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.

He said at first he could not believe his eyes and was glad because the First Lady had honoured her promise.

“I am overjoyed with what the First Lady has done for us. We are enjoying ourselves and learning new things everyday. We are so grateful to Amai for what she has done. They will see me at school because I have lots of stories to share,” she said.

When they return home, the children will share with their colleagues, families and the community various things they would have learnt on the educative trip.

Their dream came true and tomorrow (today) is another day, more activities are in store for them.- Chronicle

Chaos Hits ZANU Ahead Of Polls

Patrick Chinamasa

The ZANU PF restructuring exercise has exposed deep-rooted factionalism as well as infighting fuelled by jostling for positions ahead of the party’s provincial elections.

–Newsday

“Goblins” Torment Nurses

Nurses at Tsholotsho District Hospital in Matabeleland North province are reportedly being terrorised by suspected goblins which are allegedly stealing their food and underwear before dumping them in any of the rooms occupied by the victims.

The mysterious beings are also reportedly making strange noises at night and disturb couples whenever they want to be intimate. The strange happenings reportedly started last month are continuing.

There are also complaints from the victims that on some days they wake up after they felt that they were being pulled from their ears by those invisible things and this has prompted them to go to bed with their lights and radios turned on.

An official who requested anonymity told B-Metro that a spiritualist from Binga once came and conducted a cleansing ceremony to try to get to the bottom of the issue. Said the source:

A sangoma from Binga once came and conducted a cleansing ceremony but the torment only stopped for about a week before it started again.

The latest incident is that of a 10-year-old boy who was haunted by those mysterious creatures.

During the torment, the boy was crying while claiming that he was seeing a short and bold creature like a man.

Tsholotsho District Medical Officer Dr Mbonisi Nyathi confirmed having received reports of the strange happenings at the hospital. He said:

About last week only a single household that had three occupants were complaining about some funny things that were happening so we sent a team to inquire and among themselves, they thought of those things called goblins and they assured us that they will fix the problem within two days.

From what we heard, they fixed it and fortunately enough they (suspected goblins) were not terrorising other households except theirs.

So, the last time I heard is that they had resolved it in an internal manner and I don’t know how it stands as of now but I’m hoping that whatever it is be it games or goblins I’m just hoping that it doesn’t taint our name.- B-Metro

Faith Based Organisation Tears Into Weak Politicians

A Bulawayo-faith-based organisation, Habbakuk Trust has accused local politicians of being “politically weak” and unable to advance the devolution agenda in the region.

The new Constitution adopted in 2013 provides for the establishment of provincial councils in all provinces.

Under section 268 of the same Constitution, legislators are also supposed to sit in the provincial and metropolitan councils.

However, the government has been reluctant to comply with this clause of the Constitution.

Speaking during a virtual meeting on devolution of power in the country organised by political and civic society actors in Pumula constituency Friday, Habbakuk director Dumisani Nkomo accused the government of lacking the political will to implementing the devolution exercise “fearing of losing political power”.

“The government or the party that is in charge of government (Zanu-PF) fears that it is ceding political power to other political parties by fully implementing devolution,” said Nkomo.

The quality or caliber of some of our politicians is worrying. Few are engaged on the issue of devolution. This is one thing they could have focused on since 2018, for example insisting on a new Parliament for Bulawayo.”

Nkomo said there is a need for embracing devolution throughout the country.

“If devolution is seen as a national and not a Matabeleland issue alone it could work. For example, provinces that previously benefited from centralisation are no longer at the helm of power. The power has shifted to parts of Masvingo and parts of Midlands,” he noted.

Nkomo attributed the problem of not challenge the status quo to weak councillors whom he said do not understand the importance of devolution.

“We need to convince all provinces, even people in the system, that devolution works for them. Political actors must begin to take council elections seriously.

“Once we have weak councillors, devolution is also weakened. We should place emphasis on local government elections and field the best candidates there,” said Nkomo.

To date, there is no enabling act to operationalise devolution despite the government approving principles of the Provincial Councils and Administration (Amendment) Bill.

“ED Plotting To Announce Date”

Ladies and gentlemen the situation in our country has reached another level…,” said the late army General Sibusiso Moyo while addressing the nation during  the November 2017 sanitized coup which resulted in the ouster of former President Robert Mugabe.

The Zanu-PF factional fights between Generation 40 (G40) and Lacoste then, forced the situation to reach another level with the latter, which supported Emerson Mnangagwa, successfully ousting Mugabe through a military-backed take over. The emerging factions and ever-growing tension in Masvingo if not well managed is definitely leading to a situation more or less the same as November 2017.

Those who care not to remember the history of politics and factional fights will be quick to dismiss the possibility lest they are reminded of how Masvingo has been the mastermind of many successful political settlements in both the ruling party Zanu-PF and the biggest opposition,  Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Masvingo therefore plays a pivotal role in the political matrix of Zimbabwe. The late Mugabe knew this and that was the reason he employed the divide and rule tactics choosing the late Simon Muzenda as vice president ahead of Jonas Mudadirwa Zvobgo. Muzenda was docile and senile – he was more of a stooge, no wonder why he spent most of his time rehearsing poems like Nehanda Nyakasikana forgetting to develop the province or even his rural home in Gutu.

On the other hand, Zvobgo was ambitious, too vocal and more importantly the voice of reason for Masvingo Province. Because Mugabe had chosen incompetence and loyalty over reasoning, two serious factions then emerged from Masvingo, passed on from one political generation to another and ultimately resulted in his ouster in November 2017.

Political factions are a sign of illness in a party; we have seen this in Zanu-PF as early as the turn of the millennium when Dzikamai Mavhaire publicly demanded that Mugabe be relieved of his duties and go! Similarly, when Morgan Tsvangirai was chased away by Joubert Mudzumwe, Robson Mashiri and team at Masvingo Civic Centre in 2005 leading to the MDC’s split, the same year.

Thus Masvingo is the kingpin in the political matrix of any political party in Zimbabwe and whoever controls this province will eventually become the ultimate winner. Because of this reason every sensible politician would want to control Masvingo province and this is the battle between Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantine Chiwenga now. Though no one in Zanu-PF leadership would agree that there are factions in the party, the current developments in Masvingo bear testimony that there are factions threatening to tear apart the party.

Masvingo is so fond of factions and dirty politics that most of the time politicians are engaged in caucus meetings trying to find ways of out-manoeuvring each other. However, factionalism has been the great instrument of sophistry and chicanery in our politics thereby leaving our society very divided and warring factions wanting to devour each other.

Zanu-PF is going to have its elective congress in December next year where the party is expected to elect new national executive. The provinces are already preparing for their elections ahead of the congress, with all the leagues including the main, youth and women assemblies’ elections are expected to be held by this October latest, and this is according to reliable sources in Zanu-PF.

These sources said ED is ploting to announce this date soon so that he manages the party from further divisions.

However, it is the main wing elections that have exacerbated the formations of factions in the province. So far, there are four candidates that are said to be readying themselves to battle it out for the position of provincial chair.

The most interesting of the four, however is the battle between Ezra Chadzamira and Robson Mavhenyengwa. The two are current chair and vice chairperson of the province respectively. Chadzamira is fronting for a faction loyal to Mnangagwa while Mavhenyengwa is said to have shifted allegiance to Chiwenga. Sources within the ruling party revealed that there is now serious tension and that it is going to be dog eat dog come the elections.

“The activities that are happening in the province are very telling that we are heading for interesting times. Factions are being created; some are forging alliances while others are dividing as we prepare for the elections ahead of the congress next year. We now have two clear factions, one supporting President Mnangagwa and the other one backing VP Chiwenga,” said one Zanu-PF provincial member.

Four names have been thrown in the hat so far, and reliable sources have revealed to TellZim that all the four candidates are busy soliciting for votes and elections are expected to be conducted no later than October this year.  Of the four candidates two are said to be posing real threat and these are Chadzamira who is backing Mnangagwa and Mavhenyengwa allegedly supporting Chiwenga.

Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira

Chadzamira is the current Masvingo provincial chairperson who doubles as the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs. He is seeking re-election but is likely to face stiff competition from Mavhenyengwa who is from a rival faction. The other two candidates, Clemence Chiduwa and Rtd Major General Gibson Mashingaidze lack what it takes to compete for honours therefore talking about them is mere waste of time. Chadzamira was elected chairperson during the peak of G40 and Lacoste factional wars when he thwarted the G40s preferred candidate Rtd Colonel Mutero Masanganise in 2017.

Masanganise was Mugabe’s preferred candidate but Masvingo dumped him for Chadzamira sending a clear message that they were backing Mnangagwa for presidency. Masvingo made it clear that it will never be intimidated or coerced into voting someone they do not want.

At some point Chadzamira, Lovemore Matuke and other Lacoste faction members were publicly denounced and humiliated by Mugabe and the G40 cabal, but they remained resolute and determined. They fought tooth and nail with the G40 until they prevailed. President Mnangagwa rewarded Masvingo by appointing more than five ministers from the province including Chadzamira and Matuke in 2018. However, a lot has happened between 2018 and now to an extent that the once united Lacoste faction is now heavily divided with some shifting their allegiance from Mnangagwa to Chiwenga. Of course no one publicly admits to the existence of these factions in Zanu-PF just like during the period of G40 and Lacoste when both factions claimed loyalty to the then President.

Chadzamira therefore, has lost some cadres who backed him in 2017 but certainly he has also managed to forge new alliances as he has remained consistent in supporting Mnangagwa. Backing him so far is Matuke, Ministers Winston Chitando and Yeukai Simbanegavi, Women’s League chairlady Amai Mhlanga, Pupurai Togarepi, Masvingo, Chivi, Gutu and Zaka districts. He is also being backed by over 15 MPs in the province.

Chadzamira told TellZim in an interview that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the Mnangagwa and the party win resoundingly in 2023 general elections. He downplayed the issue of factionalism saying those who plan against Mnangagwa are planning to fail.

“President Mnangagwa has managed to resuscitate the economy; implemented a lot of developmental projects under devolution and unlocking investment for our country. He has managed to unite people regardless of political affiliations and because of his clear vision we are fully behind him. Those who are plotting against him are surely planning to fail,” said Chadzamira.

“Elections will come and go; after that we remain Zanu-PF so I don’t see the reason why fellow cdes are betraying the struggle by plotting against President Mnangagwa. I want to encourage the province to remain united and rally behind President Mnangagwa. For now we are concentrating on building the party until our leadership announces the dates for the elections,” Chadzamira added.

Reliable sources in the party said Chadzamira is still maintaining grip in the province as five districts, except Bikita and Chiredzi, are fully behind him.

Robson Mavhenyengwa

Mavhenyengwa is the current vice chair for the province. He was co-opted early this year replacing Allies Baloyi who was appointed Chiredzi RDC chief executive officer. There is no love lost between Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa as the latter was an alleged G40 loyalist before Mnangagwa came into power. Mavenyengwa is said to have then crossed the floor to join Lacoste faction after his G40 fellows (Jeppy Jaboon, Walter Mzembi, Daniel Shumba and others) started to support Phiona Riekert to take over his constituency. Phiona had lots of resources and Mavhenyengwa opted to cross to Lacoste because of frustration. Fortunately for him, G40 lost the battle and Phiona was eroded, a development which saw Mavhenyengwa retaining Zaka North Constituency in 2018.

Mavhenyengwa was then co-opted to become vice chairperson following Baloyi’s resignation. However, checking his history of flip-flopping, it is not surprising that he now allegedly shifted allegiance to Chiwenga. He has since forged alliance with Gutu DCC chairperson Brian Munyoro and Gutu West MP John Paradza who is also vying for the youth league’s chairmanship. Munyoro called for a meeting in Gutu recently soliciting support for Mavhenyengwa and he is said to have managed to convince Paradza after dangling the youth league post.

Mavhenyengwa is also reported to have forged a holy alliance with Mwenezi West MP Priscilla Zindari-Moyo who is also eyeing to chair the women’s league. Amai Zindari–Moyo is the wife of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Director General Isaac Moyo. Mavhenyengwa being a former policeman seems to be getting all the support from anyone related to or with interests in the security sector.

However, Mavhenyengwa is facing challenges to fully penetrate Zaka district as he is clashing with the DCC chairperson Clemence Chiduwa who is also the MP for Zaka East. Chiduwa is alleged to have humiliated Mavhenyengwa at one of the meetings with the war veterans in the district when he publicly denounced Mavhenyengwa saying he was now selling out President Mnangagwa.

“Chiduwa openly said pasi naMavhenyengwa nekuti wakapandukira President Mnangagwa and that did not go well with the Zaka North MP. He asked Chiduwa to withdraw his words but he denied prompting Mavhenyengwa to take up the case to the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting,” said a war vet from Zaka.

Mavhenyengwa is said to have demanded Chiduwa to apologise for his alleged utterances during a PCC meeting but sources said he refused and maintained that Mavhenyengwa had sold out the President.

Mavhenyengwa confirmed the development but vehemently denied being aligned to any faction. He said it boggled his mind how Chiduwa, whom he described as someone who came yesterday, would stoop so low that he thinks anyone who has interests to contest for any position in the province will be selling out.

“He (Chiduwa) told war vets that I have sold out simply because I am said to be interested in contesting for a particular position in the province. For your own information, I do not belong to any faction as they allege but I support our President and the party. I do not want to drag the names of our national leaders in these factional fights,” said Mavhenyengwa.

“We started supporting the President before he even joined the party and Chiduwa only came recently after 2018 elections. I am busy working for the party as a provincial member and my constituency so I expect him also to concentrate on working for the party as the district chair and his constituency. We stand guided by the party and the party has not announced yet so there is no need to talk about the elections for now,” Mavhenyengwa added.

Minister Davis Marapira is also believed to be supporting Mavhenyengwa because they do not relate very well with Chadzamira. Mavhenyengwa and Marapira are alleged to be covering a lot of ground in Zaka where they are reportedly undermining the authority of Chiduwa who is in charge of the district.

Clemence Chiduwa

Clemence Chiduwa is the MP for Zaka East and the deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development. Chiduwa was elected MP during by-elections held in 2019 following the demise of Calisto Ringisai Gumbwanda. His Curriculum Vitae (CV) was initially rejected during the Zanu-PF primaries in 2018. However, he was later accepted and contested the by-elections.

Chiduwa is then believed to have used his strong links with Christopher Gwatidzo, the principal director in the Office of the President to get appointed as deputy minister of finance. Gwatidzo and Chiduwa are tight buddies and their friendship dates back to the time they were lecturers at the Midlands State University (MSU).

At a meeting allegedly held in Chivi and chaired by Josiah Hungwe, Chiduwa is said to have initially agreed to contest for the chairmanship and some sources in the party confirmed the development.

“Chiduwa is in the race; he called me recently and said if you see my name on the ballot paper for provincial chair elections please vote for me. I think he is new and untainted therefore stands a better chance to win the election. Of course others are sceptical saying he is new so he must give those more senior to him a chance,” said another party source.

However, considering that his friend Gwatidzo’s relationship with Mnangagwa has since soured and is no longer having the same influence as he used to have as before, Chiduwa is likely not going to contest for the chairmanship. It would be best for him to maintain the relationships and alliances he has in the province than to ruffle feathers.

Chiduwa however, allegedly made it clear that he was not interested in contesting for the chairmanship saying he is rallying behind Chadzamira and President Mnangagwa. He is reported to have said he will not be swayed into supporting anyone else who is not loyal to Mnangagwa.

Gibson Mashingaidze

Major General (Rtd) Gibson Mashingaidze from Bikita is also said to be interested and is being backed by his home district and Chiredzi. Sources also told TellZim that Mashingaidze is backed by Rtd Lt. Gen Engelbert Rugeje who also hails from Bikita. Mashingaidze appears to be a very sensible person, very quiet and well-disciplined former soldier. It is difficult to accuse him of any wrong doing. However, his biggest challenge is that he is a perennial loser having lost several elections before. Bikita district is generally weak and that is one reason only a single MP was appointed deputy minister since 1980.

His backers are also being accused of fighting the Lacoste faction especially the MPs in Chiredzi who were said to belong to the G40 cabal then. Their decision to support Mashingaidze is allegedly because they do not want to align themselves with a faction that is known to support Mnangagwa. Rugeje is also said to be bitter with Mnangagwa following his unceremonious dismissal from the position of national political commissar hence his decision to support a faction loyal to his former army boss Chiwenga.

Mashingaidze is more likely to withdraw his candidature towards elections because besides him there are no other candidates to fill other positions from his faction. Chances are very high that the Bikita team will eventually join the Mavhenyengwa faction.

Indications are that the contest will eventually be between Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa.

Chadzamira and his Mnangagwa faction seem to be in control at the moment.

The rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga is said to be widening every day and whoever manages to control the provinces might strike gold at the party’s national elective congress in December next year. Let us wait and see.

When factionalism becomes hot, many supporters become spectators; they will sit in the stands and watch the factions fight. At the end they will choose, wanting to associate themselves with the winning team. We saw it during the G40 – Lacoste factional fight and we are going to see it again during these emerging factions. Let us watch and see how it goes!.- TellZ

Pasuwa’s Big Bullets Crash Out Of CAF Champions League

Zimbabwean tactician Kalisto Pasuwa’s Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets have crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing 1-3 (2-3) on aggregate, to Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Bullets went into the crunch encounter needing just a draw to progress to the second round after their impressive 1-0 in Durban in the first leg.

It was however the visitors who were dominant in the first half and they raced to a 2-0 lead, through a Bongi Ntuli’s quick-fire brace, the first of the two being a 4th minute penalty.

Ntuli netted his and Usuthu’s second in the 11th minute as McCarthy’s men got to a dream start in enemy territory.

2-0 it was at the half time interval.

Four minutes after the restart, Bullets pulled one back- Henry Kabichi’s well-taken free kick finding the back of the net, providing a glimmer of hope for the Malawians.

Siphelele Mthembu nailed the final nail on the Bullets coffin with the third goal in the 59th minute.

Bullets tried to fight back but the damage had already been done.

Our Mission Is To Save Nation’s Pride – Mapeza

Smelly Dube Scoops Top Business Award

By A Correspondent- Gweru businesswoman Smelly Dube scooped the outstanding business leader award at the inaugural Zimbabwe CEOs Network awards ceremony held in Harare last week.

The Zimbabwe CEO’s Network is an exclusive CEO peer group organisation that provides opportunities for learning and development through peer group meetings facilitated by experienced CEO group leaders.

Dube was awarded for her outstanding work in driving River Valley Properties, a property development company based in Gweru, which stood the test of Covid-19 disruptions.

The company has been supporting many vulnerable families during lockdowns, giving food handouts as well as renovation of clinics that were used as Covid-19 isolation centres.

The River Valley chief executive officer was honoured barely a day after the company chairman Mncedisi Dube scooped the strategic leader of the year award at the Megafest awards ceremony held in Harare on Wednesday.

Dube said she was excited in her recognition and vowed to continue to work hard to ensure the success of her property company and in supporting vulnerable groups.

“It is a blessing from God to continue winning the awards. It is a clear testimony that we are doing a good job on the ground and we will continue to do so,” Dube said.

The Zimbabwe CEOs Network, in recognition of Dube’s work, played a 15-minute video showing the property development works done by River Valley Properties.

The company is rehabilitating roads in the Woodlands and Hertfordshire suburbs in Gweru as well as complementing Gweru City Council in making drains ahead of the rainy season so as to curb the problem of flooding that hit the city last year.-statemedia

Drama At Funeral As Officers Fight Over Infidelity

By A Correspondent- There was drama in Kanyemba on Tuesday when two police officers who are boyfriend and girlfriend fought in uniform and tore each other’s uniforms in an infidelity brawl.

Killer Filabusi Father Back In The Dock

By A Correspondent- A Filabusi villager, who was in 2017 sentenced to 12 months in jail for assaulting his two children, is back in the dock facing fresh charges of killing one of them with a knobkerrie.

Nkazimulo Nkomo (36) of Thandabantu Village in Filabusi was not asked to plead to murder charges when he appeared before Filabusi Resident magistrate Abednico Diliza Ndebele last week.

Nkomo was remanded in custody to September 23 and advised to apply to the High Court for bail.

Prosecutor Shepherd Moyo said on September 9, Nkomo arrived at his home and found his son Khaliphile and his brother (ages not stated) seated in his bedroom.

He accused his sons of leaving his hat in the open before he allegedly ordered them to lie down and beating them with a knobkerrie.

Khaliphile died on the spot. Neighbours who saw him assaulting his children reported the case to the police.

“Zanu PF Are Cowards, Zimbabwe Does Not Belong To Their Mothers!” – Whilst They Enjoy Absolute Power, It Does

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Good pple there is need to teach ZANU PF a big lesson once and for all in 2023. They talk a lot of nonsense as if this country belongs to their mothers. They have got arrogance of a coward.

There must be mass demonstration of our sovereign by voting them out in our millions in 2023…

Haa vanhu vazviramba. When I was leaving the High Court today I met a group of pple who greeted me by the gate and said “mudhara rambai makashinga. Nyangwe Mnangagwa akatipa US$1 million each hatichada.”

These are bold declarations I get everywhere I go.

Mnangagwa will be kicked out,” Honourable Job Sikhala, MDC A MP, wrote on Twitter.

Politics dzana Job Sikhala, Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti nerudende rweMDC, ibhora rokudhibhi. Munotamba zura rese pasina agohwesa nokuti hapana magende! (MDC politics is like amateur football at its chaotic worst; where you can play all day without ever scoring a goal because there are no set teams and no set goals!)

After 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC leaders cannot name even one democratic change they have accomplished in all those years and yet still call themselves movement for democratic change.

Whilst the individual MDC leaders have had a chance to enjoy the good life of the ruling elite on the gravy train, especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when many climbed up the ladder to be ministers. The MDC leaders loved their GNU lives so much they did not want to upset their host, Robert Mugabe, by implement the democratic reforms. Not even one token reform was implemented.

In 2008 Morgan Tsvangirai garnered 73% of the popular vote, according to Mugabe’s own Freudian slip of the tongue and Mnangagwa and his Joint Operation Command (JOC) junta stepped in and ordered ZEC not to announce the results. The results were announce six weeks later and Tsvangirai’s vote count had been whittled down to 47%, enough to force a run-off.

JOC launched military style Operation “Mavhotera papi!” (Whom did you vote for!) whose primary objective was to punish the people of Zimbabwe for daring to reject Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF in the March 2008 vote. And the people were punished!

“What was accomplished by the bullet cannot be undone with the ballot!” thundered Robert Mugabe, cheering along those who were destroying property, intimidating, beating, raping, abducting and over 500 were murdered in cold blood.

“Zanu PF has declared war on the people!” cried Tsvangirai as he announced his withdrawal from the run-off.

The primary reason for setting up the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms to stop a repeat of the blatant cheating and wanton violence witnessed in 2008. Zanu PF has emerged out of the GNU with all its dictatorial powers untouched because MDC leaders took their eyes off the reforms agenda.

Mnangagwa and his cronies in the National Army arm of JOC flexed their dictatorial powers to ouster Robert Mugabe in the November 2017 military coup. Mugabe had his own supporters in the junta, the Police and CIO, but they were outgunned and outmanoeuvred.

Only the very naive and gullible believed that the 2018 elections would be free, fair and credible. Mnangagwa and his Junta were never going to stage a coup to seize power and then eight months later risk losing it in free election particularly when they still had the dictatorial powers to rig the elections. They are rigging the 2023 elections as we speak!

“There must be mass demonstration of our sovereign by voting them out in our millions in 2023!” says Sikhala. Well Zanu PF, for its part has denied 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote. Remember Mnangagwa supposedly won the 2018 elections with 2.4 million voters or 50.8% of the cast votes and so the diaspora vote is very significant indeed!

The truth is Zimbabwe is in this pathetic situation of trying to win rigged elections for no other reason other than the fact that MDC leaders are ashamed to demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections because they will have to admit they wasted the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

The overwhelming majority of the ordinary Zimbabweans have yet to figure it out that MDC leaders sold-out big time during the GNU by failing to implement even one reform. And so MDC leaders are taking full advantage of the naive and gullible public that reforms are not necessary.

Zanu PF is the chief beneficiary of holding these flawed elections because the party does not have to worry about implement the reforms and so continues to blatantly rig the elections. And by participating the people give the flawed process credibility and give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

Job Sikhala and the fellow opposition politicians are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait to the opposition to participate. Zanu PF needs the participation to get legitimacy and the few gravy train seats are a small price to pay for it.

Of course, Job Sikhala, Nelson Chamisa and the rest in the opposition camp would love to to form the next government. They know that Zanu PF will never lose an elections in which they have carte blanche powers to rig.

Chamisa and company are banking on mass street protest, to protest the economic hardship, rigged elections anything, to propel them to State House. Meanwhile the opposition will be content with the few gravy train seats and all the other titbits the get from Zanu PF.

Zanu PF are not going to reform themselves out of office, the party has the carte blanche powers to rig elections and, of course, they will never give up these powers nor will they stop using them to retain power.

There is no doubt that the Zanu PF dictatorship will collapse one of these fine days, it is rotten to the core and MDC leaders should have delivered the coup de grace a long time ago if they had not been so corrupt and incompetent. Still, the Zanu PF dictatorship will end through violence, another military coup or street protest.

The demise of Zanu PF will not bring the democratic changes the nation has been dying for all these years; the new regime will only be keen to consolidate its own grip on power and so would be tempted to keep the dictatorial powers for itself.

What the people of Zimbabwe should need to do is to wake up to the political reality that they have nothing to win from participating in these flawed and illegal elections. The opposition are taunting the public to protest with claims of stolen elections when the opposition themselves are the one aiding and abetting Zanu PF to rig elections by failing to implement reforms even when it was in their power to do so.

The best course of action for the ordinary people is to put their foot down and demand the implementation of the democratic reforms before elections. Free elections is a right and not a privilege and so why should they have to participate in flawed and illegal elections especially after 41 years of rigged election.

Sangoma’s Son Drinks Paraffin After Mistaking It For Coke

By A Corresondent- A sangoma and maskandi singer Kholeka Dlamini was left devastated after her son drank paraffin at a spaza shop and became very sick.

The 38-year-old said on 4 September, her two-year-old son drank paraffin out of a Coke bottle, thinking it was his favourite soft drink.

She said her son had gone to buy chips at the shop when he found the bottles outside and drank from one. Kholeka said she believed the child drank at least a cup of paraffin. She said she realised what had happened when he vomited and she could smell the paraffin.

“He was even struggling to walk and I decided to take him to Mamelodi Day Hospital. He was admitted and discharged on Wednesday 8 September,” she said.

“The doctors said he drank a lot of paraffin and his lungs were affected. He has a rash on his skin and he is not healthy.”

Kholeka said she was advised by doctors to give him food with lots of iron like liver, red meat, vegetables and meat.

“My son is still weak. He is struggling to play with other kids. He loses balance every time he tried to walk,” she said.

“I’m very disappointed in the shop owner because he has not even come to my home to check how my son is doing. It looks like he doesn’t care.”

Kholeka said she wanted the shop owner to be arrested. She said when she tried to open a case with the police, cops refused to help her.

Her husband Mxolisi Xingile (44) said he was very angry.

“The shop owner is not showing any remorse. This was pure negligence and I want justice,” he said.

Mamelodi West police spokesman Captain Johannes Maheso said: “An inquiry into the matter has been registered and it will be investigated. The family will be updated on the outcome of the investigation.”

UK Returnee Invests Big In Chitungwiza

By A Correspondent- Businesswoman, Maureen Mandipaza, a United Kingdom returnee, has struck the right chord in the local retail sector with a state-of-the-art shopping mall and supermarket in Chitungwiza that was launched last weekend.

Together with her husband Don, the couple spectacularly launched their business in Harare’s dormitory town.

The highlight was when the couple introduced the Vintage Supermarket application, which can be used by Diasporians to buy groceries for their relatives back home.

Prominent television actor Kessia MC, who is popularly known as Muchaneta is a Vintage Supermarket brand ambassador. He captivated invited guests and residents with her jokes and rhumba dances.

Prominent Bulawayo-based businesswoman, Caroline Mashingaidze was the guest of honour.

Mandipaza told Standard Style on the sidelines of the launch that her vision came alive through support from residents of Chitungwiza.

“It has been an amazing moment, the shopping mall has 22 modern shops including 13 downstairs and our supermarket,” Mandipaza said.

“For those who want to rent, we have CCTV on site, wifi and a site manager.

In the past the businesswoman donated blankets and food to vulnerable residents and has built an orphanage for young children

It’s Nauseating! Zim Needs Democratic Reforms

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Zimbabwe is in this economic mess and political paralysis (both the ruling party and the opposition are corrupt, incompetent and clearly have no clue how to get the nation out of the mess and paralysis, all they care about is political power).

Sadly, for the country the ordinary people themselves don’t even know their left from right hand as regards what is going on. They look up to the country’s civic organisation for guidance only to get confusion, at best, otherwise poison.

“We urge the Second Republic to enact electoral reforms and reinstate by-elections to ensure a return to participatory democracy and that citizens are equally represented in council and Parliament,” said the Election Resource Centre (ERC).

“Despite promising to preside over a democratic government that respects the Constitution, rule of law, and tolerance, it is regrettable that four years after these utterances by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and 41 years after independence, Zimbabweans are underrepresented in Parliament and local government, with rampant human rights violations that were tenets of colonial rule under Ian Smith.”

Organisations like ERC are a waste of space and time and the nation would be better off if they never existed at all!

In the 41 years of Zimbabwe’s independence, the country has never ever held free, fair and credible elections. In the 1980 elections, Zanu PF bolded stated that the bush war would continue if the party lost the elections. Of course, the people voted to end the bush war.

After the 1980 elections, there were some wooly mammoth minded individuals who tried to down play Zanu PF threat, dismissing it as political banter. The fog in their heads clearly soon enough when Robert Mugabe launched the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre that force the late Dr Joshua Nkomo to sign the December 1987 Zanu PF and PF Zapu Unity Accord and clear the way for the imposition of the de facto one-party dictatorship.

Zanu PF has ruled Zimbabwe all these last 41 years, except for the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU when it shared power with MDC, precisely because the party has enjoyed carte blanche powers to rig elections. The 2008 elections have become the watershed elections in that Zanu PF blatantly cheated the March vote and used wanton violence to win the run-off that followed.

The whole international community, including SADC and the AU who had always turned a blind eye to Zanu PF rigged elections in the past, condemned the 2008 elections are a farce. SADC leaders forced Robert Mugabe to agree to the implementation of a raft of democratic reforms designed to restore the individual freedoms and rights and stop a repeat of the 2008 rigged elections.

The task of implementing the democratic reforms during the GNU was left to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends. Sadly, they turned out to be corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent; they failed to implement even one token reform in five years. Not even one!

To be fair to SADC leaders, they did advise Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms.

“In 2013 the Maputo Summit, in June 2013, before the elections, the Maputo Summit was all about having the elections postponed – the SADC summit. I went there,” Dr Ibbo Mandaza told Journalist Violet Gonda.

“I was there at the Summit and Mugabe pretended to agree to a postponement of the elections. If you recall, the postponement was based on the need to reform at least electoral laws.

“And after that Summit, Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, all of them were called to a separate meeting by the Heads of State of SADC in the absence of Mugabe, that same evening. And they were told; I was sitting there outside the room with Mac Maharaj; they were told ‘if you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done’.”

As we know Tsvangirai and company ignored the stern warning and participated in the 2013 elections. Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections, as SADC leaders had rightly predicted.

If anyone thought the MDC and the rest of the country’s opposition camp had learned the lesson and would be demanding meaningful democratic reforms BEFORE the 2018 elections, that was not to be. Nelson Chamisa, as the candidate of the MDC A, plus 21 other opposition candidates contested the presidential race even thou ZEC had failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll.

Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the 2018 elections too.

By participating in these flawed and illegal elections the opposition is giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

The 2013 and 2018 elections were a mockery of democracy and should be roundly condemned and ERC should be making it clear with no misunderstanding and equivocation that the next elections be they by-elections or the 2023 elections will be a waste of time if they went ahead with no meaningful reforms implemented.

“The ERC explicitly emphasises that calls for electoral reforms and the reinstatement of by-elections do not imply a push for regime change, but are key for true representative democracy,” ERC said.

This is nauseating!

The right to govern must be derived from the democratic wish of the people expressed in free, fair and credible elections and if the people’s democratic wish should mean regime change so be it. So why is ERC, an organisation supposedly fighting democratic rights and a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country, be ruling out regime change.

Regime change is not a dirty phrase as Zanu PF thugs have brainwashed many to believe. According to Zanu PF propaganda ordinary Zimbabweans are incapable of attain the political conscientiousness to desire Zanu PF regime change and so the party attributes all such desires to outside influence, the West. Of course, it is nonsense!

After 41 years of rigged elections the people of Zimbabwe must demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. If the democratic wish of the people is for regime change, they must have regime change and no apology for that!

Tragedy As Woman Dies In Tractor Accident

By A Correspondent- A 48 year old woman from Matobo district’s Nyongolo area in Kezi died after falling from a moving tractor.

Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson Sergeant Thandolwenkosi Moyo said Nothando Ncube was with another passenger in a tractor’s trailer when the accident happened.

“I can confirm that the tractor Massey Ferguson had two passengers, one of them, Ncube, fell off from a moving tractor and died on admission at Maphisa Hospital,” Moyo said.

“The driver of the tractor is Hlanganani Moyo (47) from Maphisa.”

He said Ncube sustained head injuries while the other passenger escaped unhurt.

Mwonzora Councilors Back First Lady

By A Correspondent- The MDC-T dominated Harare City Council has resolved to support first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa’s projects amid accusations that the Douglas Mwonzora-led outfit is abusing the local authority’s resources for political expediency.

A full council meeting last Tuesday endorsed a resolution of the education, health and housing committee of July 29, 2021 that paved the way for partnerships between the first lady and council.

The resolution said the City of Harare was already involved in Mnangagwa’s projects that included “(i) Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba and Nharirire Yemusha.”

Council said partnering the first lady was part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

“That council approves in retrospect, the participation of council officials and further authorises participation in the forthcoming programmes being organised by the office of the first lady,” reads the minutes.

In justifying the council’s involvement, acting town clerk Mabhena Moyo said since 2004, the City of Harare used to work with various departments in among other things, removing children from the streets and placing them in the various homes with the hope of reuniting them with their families or relatives.

Moyo said Harare was supporting the first lady in the removal of street kids from the streets in the city to Chambuta Refugee Camp on the outskirts of Chiredzi.

Harare, the report said, will be open to future participation in philanthropic work by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife.

But the MDC Alliance said it was inappropriate for local authorities to use ratepayers’ money to support private initiatives by the first lady.

“We know she is working on a programme to do with street kids and using councils and mayors to pay for those services.

“We are against that. It is inappropriate and abuse of funds meant for service delivery at a time it is at its all-time low,” MDC Alliance secretary for local government Sessel Zvidzai said.

“Councils never budgeted to assist the first lady to do her job.

“At worst they should be getting the money from the Social Welfare ministry not to compromise services through those unnecessary costs.

“It is irresponsible and unnecessary and I think the people should just refuse to fund such activities away from their local authorities. It is unfair and it is bad.

“MDC Alliance councillors would not have allowed the inappropriate deployment of the people’s resources so the recalls are a choreograph to enable Zanu-PF to, without any checks or balances, enjoy more and more free space for corruption without anybody questioning.

“You can see that happening everywhere.

“Infrastructure is being done by connected people linked to the regime, roads the same is happening.”

Mwonzora’s party has recalled most of the councillors that support the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance in Harare.

Only three councillors, including suspended mayor Jacob Mafume, belong to the MDC Alliance.
