@ZECzim did a recount & admitted declaring @DexterNduna winner based on its mistake. @ZECzim should have corrected its mistake but it did not. @mdczimbabwe 's @GiftKonjana lost his #Concourt bid to represent #ChegutuWest despite winning the elections. Should ZEC be disbanded?

Schools Remain Covid-19 Hotspots
By A Correspondent- Schools have remained COVID-19 hotspots despite a downward trend in new infections recorded throughout the country in the past week, government has said.
Government yesterday extended the level two lockdown by a further two weeks, but opened licensed bars for vaccinated patrons only.
New cases reported in schools fell to 815 last week compared to 1 267 in the previous week after the Health and Child Care ministry recently cordoned off boarding schools.
In a post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said government would continue to strengthen all public health institutions ahead of a possible fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The number of new infections decreased during the week under review, despite the slight increase in new cases in learning institutions,” she said.
The daily average of new cases dropped to 238 per day from 246, the previous week.
Regarding case management, infection, prevention and control, the number of people in need of hospitalisation for COVID-19 continues to fall, with the country’s bed occupancy rate decreasing from 4,62% the previous week to 4,3% during the week under review.
Last week, 94 new admissions were recorded, with six patients placed under intensive care.
On bars, Mutsvangwa said owners who violated the COVID-19 health protocols risked losing licences.
“Cabinet notes, with concern, that the continued closure of licensed bars and nightclubs has caused not only a loss of income and unemployment, but also resulted in the mushrooming of illegal outlets,” she said.
“Cabinet, therefore, directed that all licensed bars be opened to fully vaccinated clients. Bar owners are also required to ensure that the World Health Organisation and national protocols and guidelines are enforced, failure of which their licences will be withdrawn. The bars are also required to adhere to curfew hours.”-newsday

Chaos As Zanu Pf Youths Invade Flea Market
By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF has been accused of interfering in Mutare City Council operations after the ruling party youths forcibly allocated themselves vending stalls at Chidzere flea market in the city last Thursday.
This was after youths led by outspoken Zanu-PF Mutare district co-ordinating committee secretary for youths affairs Danmore Mambondiyani stormed the flea market and allocated themselves stands.
Mambondiyani was armed with a letter from Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Nokuthula Matsikenyere addressed to Mutare City Council saying the youths should be allocated space at the flea market.
The letter, dated September 14, addressed to acting town clerk Tinashe Mtetwa stated: “The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Nokuthula Matsikenyere is kindly requesting the allocation of flea markets for the under-listed youths, your usual assistance will be greatly appreciated.”
Mambondiyani yesterday defended their action saying they did not interfere with council operations.
He said Matsikenyere met Mutare City Council and the Joint Operations Command and it was decided that 160 spaces should be allocated to them.
“The background of the matter is that we had clashes with Mutare City Council over the allocation of stands and this led Matsikenyere, the Joint Operation Command, and Mutare City Council to have a meeting where it was agreed that we were going to allocate 20% of the flea market space,” he said, adding that the youths had been ordered to pay registration fees.
However, council has remained adamant saying out of 624 spaces at the flea market, 234 of them had already been reserved for people who were previously occupying the spaces.
“Zanu-PF is interfering in the operations of our council by allocating themselves stands. The party is now doing council business and all the people who were allocated stalls are not on the council’s waiting list,” a source said.
According to latest council minutes, mayor Blessing Tandi directed the heads of department that: “I refer to the 1 289th ordinary full council meeting held on September 29, 2021, that council set aside 200 flea market stands at Chidzere flea market which will be allocated through the mayor’s office to special interest groups such as the youths, people living with disability and women, and that the remaining flea market stands will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.”

Marry Chiwenga’s Assault Trial Postponed
By Jane Mlambo| Harare Magistrates court has postponed the trial of estranged Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s wife Marry Mubaiwa to the 18th of October 2021 as the court is yet to be furnished with medical affidavits from the clinical director.
Marry Mubaiwa is being charged with assaulting her maid Delight Munyoro at Hellenic School in Borrowdale following an altercation over the custody of children.
Mary has been declared critically ill and the court ordered for a medical examination to assess if she is fit to stand trial.
The former beauty queen is facing another charge of allegedly trying to kill her husband while he was seeking medical attention in South Africa sometime last year.
According to Mubaiwa’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, her client’s trial is dependant on the outcome of the medical examination which will ascertain if she can stand court hearings.
Marry Mubaiwa has unsuccesfully tried to get her passport from the courts so that she can seek medical treatment outside the country.
She has on numerous occasions vented her frustrations with the country’s justice delivery system on social media where she alleged interference by Chiwenga to bar her from accessing her travel documents so she can get specialized treatment to her rare condition that has attracted widespread sympathy.
Mpofu Buried
By A Correspondent- Former Bulawayo deputy mayor Alderman Amen Mpofu, who succumbed to a kidney ailment on Friday, was laid to rest at the Lady Stanley Cemetery in the city yesterday.
Mpofu died at Mpilo Central Hospital at the age of 67.
Before his burial, the Bulawayo City Council held a special meeting in his honour, where mayor Solomon Mguni said Mpofu first became councillor in 2003.
Mguni said Mpofu was re-elected in 2008 to 2013, and during those years, he served as deputy mayor.
“He was elevated to the dignity of alderman in May 2018,” he said.
“His death comes as a shock and has left a vacuum which the city will not be able to fill for many years to come. The city has lost a gallant son and dedicated leader,” Mguni said.
Mpofu is survived by four children and several grandchildren.
Other former councillors and aldermen described Mpofu as a fearless man who was honest and shunned corruption at all costs.
Former mayor Thaba Moyo said he worked with Mpofu as his deputy and knew him as a no-nonsense man who always stood his ground.
“One day when we were in an inauguration meeting with former Minister of Local Government, Ignatius Chombo, he challenged him for being insensitive about Bulawayo issues after he (Chombo) delayed approval of the Bulawayo budget,” Moyo said.
A funeral service was also held at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre to allow residents to pay their last respects to their late leader.
The service was attended by several MDC Alliance members, among them Thabitha Khumalo.

Thorned Life
Thorned life the Parable of The Sower’s seed,
Whose rot fertilises mind’s garden weed
Were doubts orchard fruits,
Them,we would munch bore worm,
Like the deceased’s killer disease.
Outside looking inside at
Madding crowd’s art
Of other poet lemon squeezed
For alien ale.
His now a marinated winter chicken
On nobody’s kitchen,
Its rear river banks lends no loan,
We deposit and withdraw a blankslip
Whose currency pillow a sorrow asleep
To horse race sheet abandoned on vagrant’s cavemat,
Scratched horse grazes Punter’s guessmate,
The dimple sore with a pimple
Yearn for but life simple
Of whisky and dessert

EU Calls On Zim Gvt To Implement Reforms
By A Correspondent- The European Union (EU) has maintained a tough stance on Zimbabwe saying that the southern African country must fully implement the 2018 election observer mission recommendations (EOM) before the 2023 polls.
This was after Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs minister Frederick Shava on Monday met the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen for the first time in Brussels where the EU reiterated calls for electoral and economic reforms.
In a tweet yesterday, Urpilainen said: “First meeting with FM Zimbabwe @ShavaHon. A comprehensive discussion covering bilateral relations, COVID-19 response, future co-operation and complex regional situations. I reiterated the need to fully implement political and economic reforms, including EOM recommendations.”
In a preliminary statement after the disputed 2018 polls, the EU observer mission noted electoral malpractices such as “bias in State media” in favour of Zanu-PF, adding this meant “that a truly level playing field was not achieved.”
Urpilainen, a former Finland Deputy Prime Minister and Finance minister respectively, oversees the EU Commission’s work on international c-operation and sustainable development.
Human rights groups and the opposition have accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of being reluctant to implement reforms despite promises to do so.
Some of the reforms include the need to implement recommendations by the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry which investigated the post-election violence of August 1, 2018, including ensuring that those responsible for abuses are held accountable.
Last week, the Zimbabwe Election Support Network which has been tracking progress on the implementation of the EOM recommendations, expressed concern that “most remain unattended at a time when Zimbabwe is barely two years away from yet another set of harmonised elections in 2023.”
Opposition MDC Alliance’s secretary for international relations Gladys Hlatshwayo yesterday welcomed Urpilainen’s demands for electoral reforms
“The authoritarian consolidation in Zimbabwe is extremely worrying, shrinking democratic space, weaponising the law against opponents and human rights defenders, attempts to destroy the opposition, and undemocratic amendments of the Constitution,” Hlatshwayo said.
But Zanu-PF acting spokesperson Mike Bimha said electoral reforms did not happen overnight.
Bimha said the reform agenda was already in place, adding that critics were not aware of the procedures and processes that government had to follow in implementing the reforms.
“The issue is that when you are not in government, it is very easy to criticise. When you are in government, you also realise that things don’t just happen. There are procedures and processes that have to be followed, and those things take time; they don’t happen overnight,” Bimha said.
“What we are happy about is that the government is keen on re-engagement and reforms. We are seeing reforms; the reform agenda is there to stay and we are happy with the pace.”-newsday
Woman Dumps Infant At Mbare Musika
By A Correspondent- A woman dumped a two-week-old baby at Mbare Musika Long-distance Bus Terminus around 3 PM on Monday afternoon, police have confirmed.
The woman, whose identity could not be ascertained, had boarded an Inter Africa Bus that was loading passengers at the bustling terminus when she left the baby with a fellow passenger.
According to a police statement, the woman asked a fellow passenger aged 33 to keep a baby while she did a few errands.
She, however, left for good and did not return to the bus leading to a police report being lodged.
The police subsequently took the baby to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for further management.
Police said in the statement:
The ZRP is investigating a case of baby dumping which occurred at Mbare Musika, Hre on 04/10/21 at 1500 hours, where an unknown woman boarded an Inter Africa bus before asking a fellow passenger (33) to keep a baby (approximately two weeks old).
The woman did not return to take the baby leading to a Police report being lodged. Meanwhile, Police took the baby to Sally Mugabe Hospital for further management.
In an unrelated development, police arrested Michael Mazenge (25) in connection with a case of attempted murder that occurred at Western Triangle, Highfield, Harare on Monday.
Mazenge was badly attacked by a mob after he struck an unnamed individual with a stone on the head in an attempt to rob him of his belongings
Blow For MDC Alliance’s Gift Konjana
By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance member Gift Konjana yesterday again lost his bid to reclaim the Chegutu West parliamentary seat after the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) dismissed his appeal challenging the legitimacy of Zanu-PF’s Dexter Nduna as the legislator of the constituency.
Konjana had appealed to the ConCourt after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) erroneously announced Nduna as the duly elected MP after he lost to Konjana in the 2018 harmonised elections.
ConCourt judges Justices Paddington Garwe, Anne-Mary Gowora and Ben Hlatswayo ruled that Konjana failed to provide evidence to persuade the court to rule in his favour.
Zec announced Nduna as the winner with 10 932 votes against Konjana with 10 828 votes in the 2018 polls, but later admitted to having made an error.
Konjana then appealed to the Supreme Court, but Justices Antonia Guvava, Bharat Patel and Francis Bere ruled that his petition to challenge Nduna’s victory in the July 2018 elections was filed after the prescribed three-month period had lapsed.

Sources privy to the development said Makwembe was murdered for spilling Gumede’s beer in a glass bottle.
Said the source:
“The late Makwembe broke a glass belonging to Gumede and this did not go down with him. Gumede is set to appear at court facing murder charges.
Quartet Killed At Lobola Ceremony
By A Correspondent- Four people were killed in South Africa’s Limpopo Province on Saturday when a wall collapsed on guests during a lobola ceremony in GaChuene Thokgwaneng.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the police in Lebowakgomo have opened an inquest docket and had identified the deceased as Tiisetso Bushy Macheka, 36, Lesego Ribisi of Hwelereng village, 18, Phinias Maripane Kganyago of Gamashashane and Samson Sambo, who died at Lebowakgomo hospital.
Family spokesperson and brother to the bride, Phinias Yika said they were still in shock following the incident. He said:
As the Yika family, we are still in shock about what happened on Saturday. It was supposed to be a celebration day as they were paying a bride price for my sister … it was a lobola negotiation ceremony.
Reports indicate that people attending the ceremony were seated in a tent that was positioned next to an unroofed building when strong winds blew.
The wall collapsed, killing three instantly and injuring several others. One of the injured later died in hospital.
Yika said the incident happened quickly. It was at about 5 pm when the wind started picking up. He said the tent was not hinged to the wall.
Said Yika:
It was 1.5m or 2m away from the wall. The wind was so strong and collapsed the wall. It fell on top of the tent while people were inside. It happened so fast.
After a few minutes, there was dust and we couldn’t see what happened, but we knew that there were people inside [the tent].
After getting a clear view of what happened, that is when we saw that there were people trapped inside and we tried to remove them.
Yika said the bride and her in-laws had already left when the incident occurred. He added:
For the lobola negotiations, we finished early, from about 12 pm to 1 pm. The in-laws said they were going to fetch their bride at about 5 pm.
Immediately after they left, the disaster started. They had already left with their bride and most of the people had left to accompany the bride.
The few who were remaining and were involved in the incident were the ones who were left behind.
Yika said it was not uncommon for roads in the area to be damaged and roofs to be blown away during windy and rainy weather.
Limpopo social development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale sent her condolences to the families of the victims.
Department spokesperson Witness Tiva said a team of social workers had been deployed to provide psychosocial support to the families and other affected parties.-Timeslive
47 More People Blacklisted Over Black Market Forex
By A Correspondent- Another 47 people were blacklisted yesterday by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe for operating on the foreign currency black market, taking to 77 the number of people whose bank and mobile money accounts have now been frozen and who are barred from operating any others for two years.
The freezing of bank accounts and mobile money accounts and the blacklisting for two years are part of the RBZ’s efforts to clamp down on the black market by removing the middlemen.
The black market is seen as subject to manipulation and profiteering by those who operate it with the rates generated each day having very little to do with actual market forces.
The first group of 30 were listed two weeks earlier on September 28.
In his statement announcing the new additions Reserve Bank Governor Dr John Mangudya thanked the public “who are coming forward with information that is helping the Financial Intelligence Unit to identify and take action against more culprits”.
The Posts and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe has been asked to bar all those listed from operating mobile lines.
Dr Mangudya reminded the public that the Financial Intelligence Unit can be contacted on WhatsApp numbers 0714039897 or 0780434475.

Residents Flee Chiyangwa, Camp In The Mountains
By A Correspondent- About 30 residents of Old Citrus Farm in Mazowe say they are living in nearby mountains in fear of flamboyant businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, whom they claim has hired police officers to harass them.
The villagers have approached the High Court seeking an order to bar Chiyangwa, a Zanu-PF legislator for Zvimba South, from evicting them.
The residents claim that they are the rightful occupants of the land. They cited Chiyangwa, the Officer-In-Charge, Chinhoyi Rural Police Station, the Officer-In-Charge Chinhoyi Criminal Investigations Department and Lands minister Anxious Masuka as respondents in the application.
John Mabonde, who deposed the affidavit on behalf of the residents, stated that the attacks started nearly two weeks ago when Chiyangwa allegedly sent his manager, Tafadzwa Kwaramba, in the company of police officers to harass villagers.
“On September 24, around 0800hours, the first respondent (Chiyangwa)’s manager Tafadzwa Kwaramba in the company of police constables Mazviwanza, Sergeant Asami and others visited our homestead and started taking people into their truck indiscriminately,” Mabonde said.
He said they moved door-to-door, intimidated people, and searched and confiscated their cash and valuables, while others were arrested, taken to Chinhoyi Magistrates Court and charged with contravening section 3 of the Lands Act. They were released on $2 000 bail each.
Mabonde said the police visited them again on September 27 and evicted them without a court order.
He said in fear, some villagers ran away, while others have since camped in the mountains.
Mabonde also alleged that during the commotion, some residents were injured, but they failed to get treatment at clinics or hospitals because of the requirement to produce police reports.
The villagers want the High Court to declare Chiyangwa and the police’s action unlawful.
The matter is yet to be heard.-newsday
Mwonzora’s POLAD Bid Blocked
By A Correspondent- MDC-T founding member Amos Kaliati has written to Justice secretary Virginia Mabhiza, who is the head of the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad), seeking to block MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora from joining the grouping before determination of a High Court application challenging the legitimacy of the party’s 2021 congress.
Kaliati, who is the party secretary for mines and mineral resources, last month filed papers at the High Court seeking to nullify the MDC-T’s extraordinary congress held on December 27, 2020 that elected Mwonzora as the party leader.
Mwonzora has declared interest in joining Polad, but on Tuesday, Kaliati wrote to Mabhiza arguing that Mwonzora had no legitimacy and authority to join Polad when the High Court application was still pending.
In the letter dated October 4, 2021 addressed to Mabhiza and to the Polad principals, Kaliati recognised 17 Polad principals, including the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe, who was ousted by Mwonzora in the December congress.
“I refer to the High Court application made in terms of Rule 59(1) in the matter between Amos Kaliati vs Movement for Democratic Change and others, Case No HC5074/21.
“This is a court application for a determination in terms of section 14 of the High Court Act [Chapter 7:06]. I have petitioned the honourable court to exercise its discretion in terms of [section 14] of the High Court Act [Chapter 7:06]. In particular, I am asking the court to inquire into and determine my existing, future or contingent rights as well as the obligations of the respondents in this matter,” Kaliati said.
In the letter, Kaliati stated that MDC-T party officials’ terms of office had lapsed and they had no legitimacy to deliberate on the possibility of Mwonzora joining Polad.
“The application seeks to determine the validity and the lawfulness of the extraordinary congress that elected senator Douglas Mwonzora as the leader of MDC-T and the legitimacy of other office holders in the MDC-T, especially noting that their terms of office have lapsed. It follows, therefore, that until the High Court determines this matter, Senator Mwonzora lacks legitimacy and authority to join Polad. Kindly, therefore, ignore any correspondence from senator Douglas Mwonzora regarding the above.”
But Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba said Kaliati was no longer part of the MDC party, hence he had no locus standi to take MDC-T members to court over party affairs.
“It is quite unfortunate that some people who have left the party and joined other political outfits for dirty silver coins think that they can distract us from our political programmes,” Damba said.
“However, it will not succeed. The strategy is to destabilise our party which he left when he held the position of district organising secretary to be appointed secretary for mines in another political outfit. The results of the extraordinary congress, which was conducted by an independent electoral management body, still stand and they have not been nullified. Until that changes, then it’s a different ball game altogether.”

SHOULD ZEC BE DISBANDED?: POLL
New Fuel Prices Announced
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices effective Tuesday, 5 October 2021.
According to a notice issued by the energy regulator on Tuesday night, the maximum pump price of diesel has been set at ZWL$122.13 or US$1.38 per litre while that of petrol has been capped at ZWL$123.71 or US$1.40 per litre.
This is a significant increase from the fuel prices for September. Last month ZERA set the cap for the price of diesel at ZWL$115.15 or US$1.34 per litre and petrol at ZWL$118.42 or US$1.38 per litre.
In its latest fuel price adjustment, ZERA said operators may sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages.
War breaks out between Jonathan Moyo and Nelson Chamisa | WHO’S WINNING?

ORIGINAL ARTICLE (6th Sept) BELOW…
By A Correspondent | The man who got tens of thousands killed and millions of Zimbabweans pushed out of the country through his murderous “Hondo yeminda” campaings, the exiled Prof Jonathan Moyo has attacked the MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa while demanding that he orders his supporters to stop insulting him.
The development comes at a time when Jonathan Moyo regularly insulted his former boss Emmerson Mnangagwa on social media.
Writing on Saturday, Jonathan Moyo loudly complained against insults while threatening the MDC Alliance saying the party “is not invincible” – meaning it can be destroyed at any time.
Former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi had announced saying, until Nelson Chamisa stands up and calls his followers to order Prof Jonathan Moyo and many others will continue to be abused.
“I have not seen or read where he has publicly censored his followers and many who have parted ways with @mdczimbabwe lead the abuse,” he said.
Jonathan Moyo then quipped in to say:
“Hear hear hear. But there comes a time when enough is enough. Zimbabwe is bigger than any individuals or groups, no matter how noisy they are on what they think about themselves.
“It is ironic that a party that has lost hordes of its founding stalwarts, pretends to be invincible!”
Mwonzora Loses ConCourt Poll Challenge
By A Correspondent- The Constitutional Court has dismissed an appeal by Gift Konjana, a Douglas Mwonzora led MDC parliamentary candidate for Chegutu West in the 2018 elections, who was denied victory by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) due to a ballot counting error.
Konjana stood as an MDC Alliance candidate in Chegutu West in 2018 and won, but ZEC proceeded to pronounce ZANU PF’s Dexter Nduna as the winner wrongly.
Nduna was declared the winner in the contentious race, setting off a protracted court battle that would go through all relevant jurisdictions all the way to the top of the appeals process.
Soon after the results, Konjana demanded a recount which found that some of the votes cast for him had been allocated to Nduna.
While admitting its error, ZEC said it was powerless to reverse the outcome, which prompted Konjana to approach the Electoral Court.
However, in October 2018, Justice Mary Zimba-Dube dismissed his petition saying it was defective.
Konjana then took up the matter with the Supreme Court but was again turned down by Justices Bharat Patel and Chinembiri Bhunu.
Justice Patel admitted though that the appeal had merit, but said the case could not be heard because the appeal timeframe stipulated under the Electoral Act had elapsed.
Konjana then approached the Constitutional Court, arguing that the Supreme Court had violated his rights by not hearing him out.
The case was heard by Justices Garwe, Anne Mary Gowora, and Ben Hlatswayo.
Nduna, through his lawyers, countered in the Constitutional Court that Konjana’s electoral challenge had been legitimately rejected by the lower courts.
Justice Paddington Garwe led the Constitutional Court bench.

Mugabe Dark Horse Spared From Prison
By A Correspondent- Former President Robert Mugabe’s top ally and former Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo has been spared from prison.
Chombo got the reprieve Tuesday after the State submitted that it had no sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
Chombo, who is facing several corruption charges emanating from the Justice Uchena Report, was freed by Harare Provincial magistrate Stanford Mambanje.
Mambanje removed Chombo from remand and advised the State to proceed by way of summons if they need Chombo back in court.
That was after prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti proposed to proceed by way of summons saying there was no sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
Chombo recently challenged remand on his latest allegations arguing there was no formal complaint against him in the matter.
He is accused of criminal abuse of office after he allegedly allocated himself more than 125 residential stands without authority during his time as a cabinet minister.
On the criminal abuse of office charges, it is alleged he created a bank account in his name where housing cooperatives deposited money.
He challenged the State to provide the quantum of prejudice for the allegedly committed crime some 15 years ago.
Chombo told the court that the bank account number cited by the State was in fact not his, adding that not a single housing cooperative was registered in his name.
He said he only had one property with title deeds in his name.
Last month, Chombo was acquitted in a case he was accused of unlawfully wearing Zanu PF party regalia.

Chamisa Ally Loses Election Court Case
By A Correspondent- The Constitutional Court has dismissed an appeal by Gift Konjana, an MDC Alliance parliamentary candidate for Chegutu West in the 2018 elections, who was denied victory by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) due to a ballot counting error.

Harare City Evicts Hundreds
By A Correspondent-Harare City Council (City of Harare) says it has issued 48-hour notices to hundreds of people settled on the Mbudzi interchange road reserve.
In a statement this Tuesday, CoH urged the affected people to remove their structures within two days or the council will send bulldozers to “assist” them.
The statement read:
Council has served 48-hour notices to over 320 people settled on the Mbudzi interchange road reserve.
The notices encourage the residents to remove their structures without council assistance which normally comes in the form of dozers.
The road interchange is a national project. Affected residents will be allocated space elsewhere. A committee to address the issue is working on the matter.
Last month the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Tedious Chinyanga, told The Herald that Mbudzi roundabout, located in southern Harare, needed to be converted into an interchange where traffic flows without interruption.
Chinyanga said the ministry had engaged the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe and Zimre Holdings in their quest to raise funding which would come as a bond. He said:
In terms of the Mbudzi roundabout, we are discussing with a financial institution that has expressed interest in putting forward a loan or funding to Treasury in order to quicken up the process of constructing that interchange because it would be bad planning on our part if we complete the road without having put up the interchange.
… We have IDBZ and Zimre Holdings leading the process. They made a presentation to Treasury.
As Ministry of Transport, we are happy with the progress but there are a few things which they have to deal with Treasury for final approval and concurrence but the pace we are moving at is good.
Mbudzi roundabout is at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze Road, Chitungwiza Road and High Glen Road and these are the feeder roads from western Chitungwiza and a swathe of old and new suburbs into the city centre as well as national and regional traffic on the Harare-Masvingo route.

SA Rejects Zim Nurses
By A Correspondent- South Africa’s Public Health Department’s Directorate has started rejecting applications by health workers from Zimbabwe on grounds that its neighbour is currently facing a staff crisis due to migration.
This was revealed in a letter to some Zimbabwean applicants last week, which was signed by the South Africa public health director of workplace management, Sindile Sodladla.
“The government of South Africa is obliged to adhere to all the relevant protocols between member States of the Southern African Development Community (Sadc), the African Union (AU) as well as World Health Organisation as it pertains to recruitment of health professionals from developing countries,” Sodladla wrote.
“These agreements, protocols and recruitment codes were designed to prevent the uncontrolled recruitment of health professionals from countries where the public health system is faced with huge staff shortages, particularly with regard to health professional occupations.”
Sodladla said all public health sector employment authorities subscribed to relevant agreements, protocols and recruitment codes.
“In view of the above, the department regrets to inform you that your application for endorsement towards registration and employment in South Africa was not successful. Your country, Zimbabwe, is not listed in the category of countries the RSA department of Health should recruit from,” Sodladla said.
He indicated that the copy of the letter would be submitted to the South Africa Immigration authorities, Department of Home Affairs as well as the South Africa Nursing Council.
“You are in your interest, advised to familiarise yourself with the relevant immigration legislation and not to depart to South Africa to promote your application for support. The department will not be in a position to reconsider your application, once you have arrived in the country,” Sodladla further stated.
Migrant Workers’ Association-South Africa (MWA-SA) chairman Butholezwe Nyathi confirmed that some of the health professionals from Zimbabwe received such letters after they applied to be registered in that country.
“We are further appalled by the re-introduction of this regulation that was adopted by the apartheid regime. This seeks to limit the international freedom of movement by the people. We wonder whether the leadership of the South African government and Sadc is pleased with the movement of the healthcare staff to the Western countries whereas they could be remaining in Africa to serve African people,” Nyathi said.
He said MWA-SA would continue engaging labour federations like the South African Federation of Trade Unions, and Congress of South African Trade Unions, among many others within the Sadc region, to create migrants’ desks in their affiliates.
Nyathi said this would ensure that they facilitate the organisation of migrants, including their movements within the Sadc region for better socio-economic activities.
Zimbabwe Nurses Association president Enoch Dongo professed ignorance over the new development in South Africa.
He said if true, then it was against the Sadc and AU protocols on free movement and employment of Africans across the region.
“If it is true, I think it will be an issue of a department taking matters into its own hands, because we do not have any agreement to that effect in the Sadc and AU,” Dongo said.
“That is not in line with the protocol that we know (Sadc Protocol on Employment and Labour). We expect a protocol that allows people to move around and get jobs around the region. This has to be explained.”
Health deputy minister John Mangwiro said he was unable to immediately comment on the issue as he was locked in a meeting.
The Sadc Protocol on Employment and Labour (2014) enjoins member States to co-operate in all areas necessary to foster regional development and integration on the basis of balance, equity and mutual benefit, including labour, with reference to among others, social and human development, and social welfare.
Mnangagwa Minister In Land Scam
By A Correspondent- Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Anxious Masuka has been fingered in a land scam after it emerged that he recently signed a land offer letter for Bornface Naison, a fugitive from the law who fled to South Africa 14 years ago.
Naison was arraigned before the courts in 2007 on allegations of stealing TelOne copper cables, a crime that attracts a 10-year jail term.
He was released on bail and immediately skipped the country and has never been in Zimbabwe since then.
Nhaka Yavatema, a co-operative of disabled people, has since approached the courts over the issue of the offer letter granted to Naison as it holds title to the same piece of land.
The case was heard at Chiredzi Magistrates Court in May where it emerged that despite being a suspect in a serious case and running away from the law, Naison was actually offered what is supposed to be free land by the State.
The 99-year lease signed by Masuka on 11 December 2020 is for 60 hectares at Sub Division 27 of the Hippo Valley North dry land.
Naison and a Chiredzi lawyer Dyson Chirima had filed papers in court to evict Nhaka Yavatema Co-operative members who are using the same land that the two were offered.
Naison is being represented in court by his wife Lorhinda Ingwani whom he gave the power of attorney.
Nhaka Yavatema produced a letter in court which shows that the co-operative was given the same land by Chiredzi Town Council.
The letter was signed by Edson Nyadenga, the council’s Environmental Health Officer.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has been investigating a number of cases where senior Government officials including politicians were fingered in illegal land sales.
The Government officials are accused of selling State land on a massive scale.

COVID-19 Update October 4

30 Residents Flee Chiyangwa, Hide In Mountains
About 30 residents of Old Citrus Farm in Mazowe say they are living in nearby mountains in fear of flamboyant businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, whom they claim has hired police officers to harass them.
The villagers have approached the High Court seeking an order to bar Chiyangwa, a Zanu PF legislator for Zvimba South, from evicting them.
The matter is yet to be heard. -Newsday
Mwonzora No Longer MDC T Leader: High Court Applicant
By A Correspondent | MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora is no longer the party leader, a High Court applicant announced claiming yesterday.
An MDC T official, Mr Amos Kaliati told ZimEye yesterday, Mwonzora should no longer be called party leader. (Audio below).
He also added in a letter dated October 4, 2021 addressed to Polad secretary, Virginia Mabhiza and to the Polad principals. He addressed it to 17 Polad principals, including the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe, who was ousted by Mwonzora in the December congress.
No Vaccination Card, No Beer- Mnangagwa
…..All licensed bars can now open to fully vaccinated clients...
Speaking during a post-cabinet media briefing this evening, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa advised the public to continue observing World Health Organisation (WHO) COVID-19 protocols. She said:
HE President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended Level 2 Lockdown by a further two weeks.
Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday extended the Level 2 COVID-19 lockdown by a further two weeks.
The public is advised to continue to observe WHO and National COVID-19 protocols of sanitizing, masking up, practising social distancing and observing curfew hours.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has given the green light for bars to reopen albeit only to fully vaccinated patrons. Said Mutsvangwa:
All licensed bars can now open to fully vaccinated clients. Bar owners are also required to ensure that COVID-19 protocols and guidelines are enforced, failure of which, licences will be withdrawn.

No Jab No Beer: Govt.
…All licensed bars can now open to fully vaccinated clients…
Schools have remained COVID-19 hotspots despite a downward trend in new infections recorded throughout the country in the past week, government has said.
The bars are also required to adhere to curfew hours.” –Newsday

“Once Cheated Twice Wiser” said Chamisa – How Honest Is He?
By Patrick Guramatunhu | There are many reasons why Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess. Many of those reasons will have something to do with the nation’s inability to focus on the important matters; we have a fixation with trivial matters.
“WE’RE READY!” announced Nelson Chamisa on his Twitter account.
“In 1980, Mugabe was 56, Banana 44, Mnangagwa 37, Rex 31, Tongo would’ve been 42, Joyce 25, Zvinavashe 36, Oppah 22 and Sekuru Chiwenga 23. They were ready to serve and so are we.
“Why do some people think that OUR GENERATION is not ready? We’re ready! And it’s now our turn! Theirs was liberating. Ours is transforming and democratizing.”
For the umpteenth time Chamisa; leadership is not about age, race, gender, who did what during the liberation war, etc., etc. None of these things matter not at all!
Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were young, they had fought in the war of liberation, etc., etc.; ticking all the boxes according to your criterions, they were ready. And yet that did not stop the onset of the gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and the murderous tyrannical oppression that have been the hallmark of the Zanu PF dictatorship.
The economic and political rot we see today started with the Zanu PF decision to deny the people of Zimbabwe a meaningful rig the 1980 elections by threatening the bush war will continue if the party lost the elections. Once in power they consolidated the iron grip on power by systematically undermining and corrupting every state institution and sector of society to impose the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship that has ruled the nation with an iron fist and ruined it.
The suggestion that Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends should be allowed to govern because they are young is plan foolish. Zimbabwe’s rot started way back in 1980 when the nation gained her independence and Mugabe and company were young. So if the youth Mugabe and company failed to deliver economic prosperity what is so different with Chamisa and company to guarantee they are not as corrupt and incompetent as Mugabe and company?
The nation must be reminded at this point that Chamisa and company have been on the national political stage for 22 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Chamisa and his MDC friends were elected into office for a very specific purpose – to implement the democratic reforms to dismantle the de facto one-party dictatorship.
Zanu PF is still in power today because MDC leaders have failed to implement even one token democratic change in 22 years.
Worse still, MDC leaders have now abandon the cause of implementing the reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
SADC leaders’ warned the MDC leaders not to participate in 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging. “If you go into the elections next month, you will lose. The elections are done!” SADC leaders told Tsvangirai and company to their faces.
MDC leaders ignored the warning and Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the 2013 elections. Tsvangirai and company should have learned the lesson and demand the reforms before elections; they did not because the repeated the same mistake in 2018.
Zanu PF has been in power for 41 years and counting because Zanu PF rigged the elections and not because some mythical individuals decided Chamisa and his generation were not ready.
One Twitter user quizzed Nelson Chamisa on this very important point, asking him if he has, “considered the “rigging” in 2023? Surely you or any other can’t win as all elections in Zimbabwe (are) rigged.”
“Once cheated twice wiser!” replied Chamisa, with his usual dismissive arrogance.
The problem was not just one of Zanu PF rigging elections and getting back into power but, worst of all, by participating in the flawed and illegal elections, MDC was giving credibility to the flawed process and, by extension, legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF.
The people of Zimbabwe are desperate for meaningful democratic change that will restore the people’s basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life itself. Stopping the curse of rigged elections and bad governance is the number one priority because other changes such as economic recovery will only follow if there is good governance.
So the people of Zimbabwe are looking for the leaders; it does not matter their age (after all the government is elected for a fixed five year term), gender, etc.; who will implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections.
“Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people,” said the Greek Philosopher Socrates.
Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends are obsessed about trivial matters so obsessed they are incapable of thinking of anything else; even when it is brought to their attention repeatedly!
“Once cheated twice wiser!” How many times did Robert Mugabe “cheat”Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, his two Deputy PM, 30 MDC ministers and deputy ministers,160 MDC MPs and Senators into forgetting to implement even one token reform in the five long GNU years? And this was the primary purpose of the GNU for Pete’s sake!-SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com
Bomb Explosion In Lupane
Five family members are lucky to be alive after a bomb exploded in their homestead, blowing off the roof of a house and damaging three huts at neighbouring homesteads in Lupane.
The explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon at the homestead of Lupane Women’s Centre director Mrs Hildegard Mufukare along the old Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road in Mqoqi Village, Shabula area under Chief Mabhikwa, police confirmed.
There were no casualties. Preliminary investigations suggest the bomb could be an anti-tank landmine designed to damage or destroy armoured vehicles.
It is suspected it was planted during the country’s liberation war. “Circumstances are that on the 3rd of October 2021 at about 3pm, the informant Tinashe Mufukare aged 33 of Hildeguard Mufukare’s homestead assigned one of the domestic workers to dispose litter at a rubbish pit. He lit the fire and left the dumping site.
“After some minutes an explosion was heard from the dumping site and it caused cracks on the two-roomed house, and also shattered the screen of a Toyota Hilux double cab which was also parked in the yard,” said Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda.
He said a report was made to the police and the Zimbabwe National Army bomb disposal team.
Insp Banda urged members of the public to be wary of suspicious looking substances.
“We appeal to members of the public not to temper with anything that is metallic in nature and looks suspicious lest they detonate explosives. Whenever they discover anything suspicious, they should report to the nearest police station,” he said.
Mrs Mufukare said the rubbish pit had been there for years and was for burning garbage. She said there were five people cleaning a fowl run when the explosion occurred.
“They are my children and were cleaning a fowl run. They put garbage in the pit and burnt it. The explosion happened soon after they left the pit going back to the fowl run to continue cleaning,” said Mrs Mufukare.
She said the pit is on the edge of the yard, about two metres from the two-roomed house whose walls cracked and roof was totally blown off leaving trusses broken. The fowl run is about eight metres away from the pit and its walls also cracked.
“They suddenly heard a loud bang which I also heard at Lupane Centre where I was. People on the other side of Gwayi River and Banda area about 10km away also heard the explosion. The damaged house is about two metres from the pit and its walls cracked while the trusses broke causing all corrugated iron roof sheets to falls off. The police bomb disposal unit which visited today suspect that it is an anti-tanker,” she said.
A Blair toilet wall also cracked.
Some window panes cracked while a roof was damaged at a neighbouring homestead belonging to Mrs Fiona Nyathi (74) while Mrs Olipha Sibanda’s hut also lost window panes.
A door fell off from another neighbour’s rondavel. The explosion’s vibration was also felt at the Lupane District Development Co-ordinator’s office, close to 10km away from the homestead.
The District Development Co-ordinator, Mrs Ennetty Sithole, who chairs the District Civil Protection Unit (CPU), implored security agents to carry investigations to ensure villagers’ safety.
“We went there in the morning as CPU and found that the explosion had left a trail of destruction. The two-roomed house at Mrs Mufukare’s homestead is a write-off while several other structures were damaged but fortunately no one was injured.
“It is suspected that it could be a bomb that was left during the liberation war and we have requested the security to do investigations speedily so that we are assured that people are safe. We have sent an appeal to stakeholder to assist with building material for the affected families,” she said. -Chronicle
Madzore’s Powerful Speech In Epworth
Impact Of Meningitis On Global Health
Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners launched the first ever global strategy to defeat meningitis – a debilitating disease that kills hundreds of thousands of people each year.
By 2030, the goals are to eliminate epidemics of bacterial meningitis – the most deadly form of the disease – and to reduce deaths by 70% and halve the number of cases. The organizations estimate that in total, the strategy could save more than 200,000 lives annually and significantly reduce disability caused by the disease.
This strategy, the Global Roadmap to Defeat Meningitis by 2030, was launched by a broad coalition of partners involved in meningitis prevention and control at a virtual event, hosted by WHO in Geneva. Its focus is on preventing infections and improving care and diagnosis for those affected.
“Wherever it occurs, meningitis can be deadly and debilitating; it strikes quickly, has serious health, economic and social consequences, and causes devastating outbreaks,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “It is time to tackle meningitis globally once and for all –by urgently expanding access to existing tools like vaccines, spearheading new research and innovation to prevent, detecting and treating the various causes of the disease, and improving rehabilitation for those affected.”
Meningitis is a dangerous inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, predominantly caused by infection with bacteria and viruses.
Meningitis that is caused by bacterial infection tends to be the most serious – leading to around 250,000 deaths a year – and can cause fast-spreading epidemics. It kills 1 in 10 of those infected – mostly children and young people – and leaves 1 in 5 with long-lasting disability, such as seizures, hearing and vision loss, neurological damage, and cognitive impairment.
Over the last ten years, meningitis epidemics have occurred in all regions of the world, though most commonly in the ‘Meningitis Belt,’ which spans 26 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. These epidemics are unpredictable, can severely disrupt health systems, and create poverty – generating catastrophic expenditures for households and communities.
“More than half a billion Africans are at risk of seasonal meningitis outbreaks but the disease has been off the radar for too long,” said Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.
“This shift away from firefighting outbreaks to strategic response can’t come soon enough. This roadmap will help protect the health and lives of hundreds of thousands of families who every year fear this disease.”
Several vaccines protect against meningitis, including meningococcal, Haemophilus influenzae type b and pneumococcal vaccines. However, not all communities have access to these lifesaving vaccines, and many countries are yet to introduce them into their national programmes.
While research is underway to develop vaccines for other causes of meningitis, such as Group B Strep bacteria, there remains an urgent need for innovation, funding and research to develop more meningitis-preventive vaccines. Efforts are also needed to strengthen early diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for all those who need it after contracting the disease.
“This roadmap is the embodiment of the ambition of people and families affected around the world who have called for its creation.
It’s their experience and passion that has driven a whole community of interest to get this far,” said Vinny Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Meningitis Research Foundation and the Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (CoMO), an international membership organization of patient advocacy groups for meningitis. “We celebrate together the common goal of defeating meningitis and will be led by their inspiration to make it happen.”
The new Roadmap details the following priorities for meningitis response and prevention:
Achievement of high immunization coverage, development of new affordable vaccines, and improved prevention strategies and outbreak response;
Speedy diagnosis and optimal treatment for patients;
Good data to guide prevention and control efforts;
Care and support for those affected, focusing on early recognition and improved access to care and support for after-effects, and
Advocacy and engagement, to ensure high awareness of meningitis, accountability for national plans, and affirmation of the right to prevention, care and after-care services.
WHO and partners are providing support to countries to implement the Roadmap, including through the development of regional and national frameworks that will help countries achieve its ambitious goals.
Partner quotes
“The Global Roadmap to Defeat Meningitis demonstrates what can be accomplished when a global need is met with global action,” said Nikolaj Gilbert, President and CEO of PATH. “Progress against meningitis has lagged for too long; by working together, we can overcome the disease that has cost so many lives in countries around the world. PATH is proud to have been a part of the roadmap’s development and is committed to advancing affordable and equitable vaccine solutions to defeat meningitis.”
“We must be united in our efforts to end all preventable childhood diseases, including bacterial meningitis,” said Dr. Aboubacar Kampo, Director of Health Programmes at UNICEF. “UNICEF has been supporting governments for decades, facilitating the delivery of life-saving meningitis vaccines. Still, far too many children are succumbing to this and other preventable diseases – and the situation is only worsening as a result of the pandemic.
We need to act decisively to strengthen primary health care and get routine immunization back on track, before more children face adverse health outcomes – or loss of life – inflicted by meningitis and other preventable infectious diseases.”
“Although the main burden of meningitis is in poor countries, acute bacterial meningitis is a global problem with no country being spared its devastating impact,” said Professor Sir Brian Greenwood, Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and co-chair of the Task Force supporting the implementation of the roadmap. “Thus, containing this serious group of infections needs a global response. This is what the roadmap sets out to achieve, bringing together – under the umbrella of WHO – health professionals from across the world to bring this condition under control by 2030.”
“The Meningitis Roadmap provides a clear blueprint for defeating this devastating disease,” said Professor Robert Heyderman, Head of the Research Department of Infection at University College London. “Crucially it identifies the gaps in our knowledge and the tools required. To achieve the Road Map’s ambitious goals, a team approach will bring together countries, global policymakers, civil society, funders, researchers, public health specialists, healthcare workers and industry to generate and implement innovative new strategies.

Mwonzora, Mnangagwa Heartless- MDC Alliance On Zanu PF Plot To Cancel Elections
Tinashe Sambiri |The MDC Alliance Namibia has slammed the plan by Douglas Mwonzora and his Zanu PF handlers to cancel elections.
On Monday MDC T, through Morgen Komichi, called for the postponement of elections citing the need for “ample time for economic recovery.”
See the MDC Alliance Namibia statement:
Fight for reforms! Postponement of democratic elections is not only illegal but a gross violation of human rights, Mdc Alliance Namibia slams Komichi and cabal.
05 October 2021
Mdc Alliance Namibia have absolutely condemned the satanic, illegal and unconstitutional attempt to postpone 2023 harmonised elections when the masses are already scratching their heads for a single nutritious meal per day 2 years before the much awaited elections. On Sunday, the ZanuPF surrogate MdcT national chairperson Morgen Komichi, the man who got only 9 votes during the inquorate Extraordinary Congress in 2020, revealed to the NewsDay that the judicially-constructed political outfit has the conviction that dialogue with Mr Mnangagwa was the only way to go.
He went on to say that holding elections without comprehensive political and electoral reforms was a waste of time as if his party had demanded a single reform since they claim to represent the genuine revolutionaries. The political posture displayed by the Zanupf-fronted Mdc T is a testament to their lack of political capital and general phobia to lose their ill-gotten councillors, members of parliament and senators who were voted by Mdc Alliance members and supporters in July 2018.
It has become clear to every right-thinking citizen that Komichi, Mwonzora, Khupe, Mudzuri, Mashakada, Festus Dumbu etc are ZanuPF surrogates employed to impersonate the authentic social democrats to hoodwink the international community and the citizenry in general. Their role is clearly to aid Zanupf to continue eating on behalf of the poverty-stricken citizens who are clamouring for complete change under the impressive leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. The intention to derail the freedom train shall be resisted with equal measure. Mdc Alliance Namibia believes that genuine revolutionaries should be seen galvanising support, mobilising to demand immediate political and electoral reforms as demonstrated by our vibrant youth assembly led by Councillor Denford Ngadziore and others who exhibited their insatiable quest to establish an independent Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) as part of our reform agenda 2021.
Moreover, the ill-fated Komichi should comprehend that elections belong to the people of Zimbabwe and it must deeply sink in his brainless head that voting is a fundamental part of constitutional democracy. ZanuPF and their enablers should be rudely reminded that postponement of democratic elections is a clear suffocation of the electorate and that will never happen in our motherland. We are ready to defend the rule of law and constitutionalism in Zimbabwe because it is part of our agenda 2021 where citizens are anticipated to converge to win Zimbabwe for complete change. It is not astonishing to see vacillations and oscillations in the unprincipled, greedy politicians who have openly decided to sell the people’s project for three pieces of silver.
As constitutional fighters , we are convinced that the citizens should be allowed to constitutionally choose their leaders freely and fairly in line with the provisions of the supreme law of our motherland. “Who is Komichi or Mwonzora to short-change the suffering masses of Zimbabwe who are audibly chanting #NgaapindeHakeMukoma?”, Fumed Mdc Alliance Namibia Rundu Branch Secretary General Simbarashe Ndoda. The message from Namibia is very clear! Empty-headed dull victims in the names of Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora, Komichi and cronies should prepare for elections through demanding comprehensive political and electoral reforms that will surely see an objective and non-partisan electoral body. If these Zanupf stooges want monologue, let them join looters in POLAD.
Moreso, the people of Zimbabwe should wake up and smell the coffee. Real sons and daughters of the democratic establishment should not be wavered by those who are trying impersonate the authentic people’s party led by our political generator President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. This must be a moral and political lesson in 2023 to some of us who were fooled to believe these belly politicians who borrowed some temporary limelight from the partisan Supreme Court judgement made during lockdown to betray the 2018 July 31 harmonised election result. We should educate our people to select the visionary leadership with the potential to bring socio-economic transformation in the motherland ahead of the selfish morons.
Furthermore, the plot to bar elections in 2023 is incontestable evidence that both clueless Zanupf and their new baby, Mdc T are cognisant of the fact that with or without electoral reforms, it is a mammoth task for them to win seats in councils and parliament. If Komichi represents the people ,he should have consulted voters first before engaging the this oppressor. It is quite unbelievable that those who masquerade as the genuine Mdc left by our late doyen of social democracy President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai are now conniving with Zanupf to trample on the voting rights of our people. May his revolutionary spirit rise and fight for his suffering people at the hands of rapacious as well selfish Mwonzoras. These high levels of satanism must be confronted with equal measure. #RegisterToVoteIn2023. #Mobilise6MillionVoters. #NgaapindeHakeMukomana2023. #UChamisaKabangene2023.
In a nutshell, ZanuPF and their desperate enablers in the Mdc T should advice each other to implement reforms before the masses pent up their outrage peacefully demanding reforms in the administration of electoral processes. We are really exhausted of contested and illegitimate elections since 2000. As part of our reform agenda 2021, we have already issued , for reference 20 Principles for Reliable, Inclusive and Credible Elections in Zimbabwe (PRICE). We urge the politically-inept Harare regime together with their counterfeit democrats in Mdc T and other stakeholders to review these as we believe that addressing them will automatically put Zimbabwe on the road to fair electoral outcomes.
Mdc Alliance Namibia is astonished to have a party that had never demanded even a single reform having the tenacity and audacity to say reforms are unachievable. To hell with greedy stomach politicians such as Komichi, Mwonzora, Khupe, Mudzuri, Mashakada and Festus Dumbu etc who have tried in vain to decimate the people’s democratic party. Social democrats in Namibia are just waiting for Mwonzora to change his name to Advocate Nelson Chamisa Wamba Dia Wamba. #RegisterToVoteIn2023.

Videos of police officers protesting economic hardships on social media have gone viral, prompting the force to threaten to take action against its members, whom it says were denigrating government.
In a leaked internal police memorandum dated October 3, 2021, ZRP Mt Darwin district officer commanding ordered all officers-in-charge to identify the members in the videos and take disciplinary action against them.
“This headquarters has noted with concern the proliferation of photos and videos on social media platforms where police officers are openly seen denigrating the government, uttering political statements and improperly dressed with some female officers posting sexually seductive photos and videos in full Zimbabwe Republic Police uniform,” the memo read.
“This conduct is tarnishing the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s image and is contrary to the dictates of the disciplinary code as espoused in the Police Act [Chapter 11:10.] Commanders are implored to immediately identify such members and take decisive action which includes disciplinary trials and boards of inquiry (suitability).”
In one 15-second video which is making rounds on social media, an unidentified police officer displays cash in local currency, with lyrics in the background song implying that his earnings were no longer enough to meet the cost of living.
According to the video, the police officer is requesting government to review their salaries which have been eroded by inflation.
Insiders told NewsDay that low-ranking police officers were earning between $28 000 and $30 000, which is not enough to meet their family monthly needs.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Human Rights Watch director for southern Africa, Dewa Mavhinga, urged government to address its workers’ grievances instead of penalising those who spoke out.
“The prevailing economic hardships are felt by everyone, including those civil servants in the police and the army,” Mavhinga said.
“Instead of punishing and silencing those who protest, government should focus on steps to improve the economic conditions, to end rampant corruption, and to ensure workers have meaningful wages.”
‘Activism Cost Me My Hubby,’ Chisirimhuru Bares It All
By Tafadzwa Muranganwa| Born in a family of 6, Sheila Chisirimhuru is proud that her father who was a teacher managed to raise them well funding their education at boarding schools.
It is this upbringing that actually motivated the mother of 2 to pursue teaching as a profession.
“Sheila Chisirimunhu a.k.a Cde Shidza is a proud mother of two beautiful girls Patience and Tariro.
“I was born in a family of six, three girls and three boys and bred in a Christian environment of Morgenster Mission where my father was teaching. Teaching became my passion due to the way we were raised up, though my mother was a mere housewife my father managed to send all of us to boarding schools,” she reminisces.
That her father could survive merely on his salary and still be a source of envy in his community is something that keeps Sheila fighting for a living wage for the thousands of teachers in Zimbabwe who are wallowing in poverty because of the meagre salaries. To augment these low salaries most of the teachers have turned into vending and other sorts of menial jobs losing their dignity as professionals.
Faced with such predicaments, the 54-year-old Chisirimhuru had no choice but to join trade unionism in the late 90s which saw her being elected as the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union Secretary for Masvingo District where she was instrumental in staging protests.
“I trained as a teacher at Morgenster Teachers’ College in 1992 and when I joined the profession it was rosy but everything took a nose-dive in the late 90s and this made me join trade unionism assuming the role of ZCTU Masvingo District secretary.
“On September 13 ,2006 we managed a big protest that the state responded with heavy-handedness brutalising some of our members who were left nursing injuries and a few later succumbed to the injuries,”Cde Shidza goes down the memory lane.
Marriage Broken
Apart from being a target of state brutality and persecution, Sheila said her fight for better teachers’ working conditions and salaries cost her a husband.
“Some of the challenges that I have faced being a female trade unionist is that actually, people don’t seem to understand you, personally the father of my kids walked out of our marriage and leaving me to single-handedly raise the kids.
“There are many times I feel I am putting my children at risk because of my radicalism,” said Chisirimhuru who is now the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) Masvingo Provincial Secretary for Gender.
State Persecution
On the 18th of December last year, Chisirimhuru vividly recalls how her world crumbled after being slapped with a 16-month jail sentence for having organized a protest demanding better salaries for teachers.
She endured 18 days of torment in the prison where she says the conditions are extremely terrible and not fit for ‘human habitation’.
“It was around 945am on the 18th of December when I was slapped with a 16-month jail term .At first, I failed to comprehend it for I knew I had done nothing wrong
“For the first time I had to spend both Christmas and New Year holiday in prison living in untold squalid conditions and I can attest Zim prisons are not fit for human habitation,” recalls Chisirimhuru.
In January 2021, Chisirimhuru was granted bail pending appeal and conviction.
Judges sitting at the Masvingo High Court, justices Sunsley Zisengwe and Garainesu Mawadze on 15 September quashed the conviction and 16-months imprisonment of Chisirimunhu and it was a huge sigh of relief for the trade unionist.
“When the conviction was set aside I could not believe it, I cried with joy because the conviction was weighing heavily on my neck.
“I felt I had been victimized but I urge all my female compatriots to stand up when they feel their rights are being trampled upon,” asserts Chisirimhuru.
Asked if the experience did not break her spirit, the trade unionist says she won’t relent.
“No not all. Of course, they managed to bend me but failed to break me,” she signs off.
Zimbabweans Have No Plan To Remove Zanu PF At Elections” – Opposition Clearly Don’t But That’s Different
By Nomusa Garikai- “MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has claimed that Zimbabweans have no plan that could remove the ruling Zanu-PF party at elections,” reported Bulawayo 24.
It would have been more accurate for Mwonzora to say “Zimbabwe’s opposition parties not only have no plan to remove Zanu PF from power but, more significantly, they are now they ones keeping the regime in power!”
It took the people of Zimbabwe nearly 20 years for them to accept that Zanu PF was dragging the nation into mass poverty instead of mass prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhinji!” as Mugabe never tired of repeating. When the people tried to remove the regime from office, they soon realised they would never do it as long as Zanu PF retained its carte blanche dictatorial powers to rig elections.
The people realised that only sure way to remove Zanu PF from office was by implementing the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Implement the democratic reforms to restore the individual freedoms and rights usurped by the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship was and still is a sound plan guaranteed to end the Zanu PF dictatorship.
For the last 22 years, Zimbabweans have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders into power on the understanding the party would implementing the reforms the nation was dying for. The party has had many opportunities to implement the reforms notably during the 2008 to 2013 GNU but wasted them all.
MDC leaders have failed to implement even one token democratic reform in 22 years and so Zanu PF still enjoys its carte blanche dictatorial powers including powers to rig elections. After the blatant cheating and wanton violence in the 2008 elections it was crystal clear Zimbabwe will never have free, fair and credible elections as long as Zanu PF retained these dictatorial powers.
All the opposition parties who have participated in Zimbabwe’s elections post 2008 have all known that without reforms to end Zanu PF’s dictatorial powers, Zanu PF will rig the elections and retain power – guaranteed.
However, the opposition parties have participated in these flawed elections regardless because they also knew that Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate.
So the opposition were participating in elections knowing fully well the elections were a blatant denial of the people’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and their participation will never remove Zanu PF from office. They were participating for the sake of the share in the spoils of power.
Robert Mugabe and his fellow Zanu PF thugs were forced to go into the 2008 to 2013 GNU because no one, not even SADC and AU known for endorsing dodgy elections in the past, would endorse the 2008 elections as free and fair and an expression of the democratic will of the people of Zimbabwe. Mugabe and company knew by failing to hold free and fair elections they will, per se, lose the legitimacy of the people’s democratic mandate.
Zanu PF’s plan has been to entice the opposition to participate in the flawed and illegal elections by dangling a few gravy train seats in their faces. The party will entice the naive and gullible public to participating in the elections by spreading propaganda down playing Zanu PF’s power to rig elections.
Thus Zanu PF has managed to present the many opposition parties and candidates contesting Zimbabwe elections as proof the elections were free, fair and credible. Why would the opposition participate if they KNEW the elections were flawed and illegal?
Meanwhile, Zanu PF has been careful to portray each election result as a very close run affair and thus giving the gullible public hope Zanu PF can be removed from office with no democratic reforms in place. Indeed, Zanu PF is spending a fortune, second only to that spent in running the vote rigging juggernaut, into brainwashing the public into believing the opposition’s hare-brain “Winning In Rigged Elections (WIRE) strategies” are working and Zanu PF is on the ropes!
SADC leaders warned Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues of the sheer folly of participating in elections without first implementing the reforms. “If you go into the elections next month (July 2013); you will lose. The elections are done!” they warned.
As we know, MDC leaders paid no heed to the warning and, as expected, Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the July 2013 elections.
Nelson Chamisa, who had replaced Morgan Tsvangirai following his death in 2018, participated in the 2018 election so flawed ZEC did not even have something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. “MDC A has stringent measures (new word for WIRE strategies) to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” Chamisa boasted. All hot air, of course.
Douglas Mwonzora is right, he, Nelson Chamisa, Lovemore Madhuku and the rest contesting the 2023 elections know, with no reforms, Zanu PF will rig the elections to secure 2/3 majority and the presidency. They will be fighting over the remaining 1/3 of the gravy train seats, the share of the annual Political Party Finance Act payout and the POLAD perks, a new addition.
If the people of Zimbabwe are serious about the full restoration of their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country, then they must demand the implementation of the reforms before elections. Implementing the reforms was a sound plan to remove Zanu PF from power 22 years ago; it is still a sound plan today.
TikTok Catapults Blessing Shumba’s New Song “Munyu”
By A Correspondent| TikTok has become a blessing for the Mutare based gospel music sensation Blessing Shumba whose song “Munyu” has gone viral.
Off his latest album ‘Lion of Judah’ the song went viral after “police” officers had TikTok videos explaining their value-less salaries.
The Police has since issued a statement warning the “errand” officers against abusing social media, but that has not stopped the song from continuing to make waves.
“Mutendi iva Munyu wenyika, zvino munyu wazhurungunda tochirunga neiko” are some of the lyrics.
It was taken from the Biblical book of Mathew 5 verse 13.
Other songs on the album include Kurevetekwa Kwako that is making waves on Star FM,Tega Hatiende on Radio Zimbabwe Diamond FM just to mention a few.
Munyu has emerged the most favoured because of Tiktok.
Mugabe’s Widow Says The Family Has Been Subjected To Intense Mental Torture
By A Correspondent- Robert Mugabe’s widow says her family has been subjected to “intense mental torture” over attempts to exhume and rebury the late former president against the family’s wishes.
Grace Mugabe, 56, on Monday filed a High Court application seeking to overturn a ruling of a traditional court which ordered that Mugabe be exhumed from his rural home in Kutama for reburial at the National Heroes Acre, a hilltop shrine in Harare.
Mugabe’s children Bellarmine, Robert Junior and Bona recently failed to overturn the ruling by Chief Zvimba, Stanley Mhondoro, after a magistrate in Chinhoyi ruled that they could not represent their mother, who was judged in absentia in May.
“The magistrate Ruth Moyo has dismissed the application she forced me to do on a technicality, which means my only recourse is to appeal,” she said in an affidavit.
“I am advised that the appeal process can take between six months to even two years depending on how inundated the High Court will be to accommodate appeals. This delay in time will be gravely unfair on me and my family as we are subjected to intense mental torture each day with the uncertainty of the resting place of my late husband and the former president of the Republic of Zimbabwe.”
The former first lady is arguing that magistrate Moyo had no authority to deliver a ruling based on an appeal by her children if she felt they had no legal standing to file the appeal in the first place.
Mugabe’s widow said after the traditional court’s ruling made while she was in Singapore, her lawyers wrote to Moyo on June 2 asking her to review Chief Zvimba’s decision which had “serious irregularities.”
She said Moyo ignored the first letter, but responded to a second written on June 23. In her reply, the magistrate advised her to file a “proper application” before the court that would be dealt with in terms of “proper procedure”. Mugabe said she had legal advice that the procedure of seeking a review of a traditional court’s ruling was to “notify the provincial magistrate of the decision and identify the procedure defects with the chief’s decision so that the magistrate can mero motu exercise statutory review powers.”
Instead, she says Moyo forced her to file a review application, in which she gave her daughter, Bona, powers of attorney. The magistrate dismissed the children’s appeal, insisting that only the former first lady could file an application for review.
“I am advised that the procedure that Moyo directed is not in terms of the law, specifically that I prepare an application for review. The wrongful directive by the provincial magistrate and her clear neglect of duties is prejudicial to me in that it violates my right to equal protection before the law,” she argues.
“I wish to direct the court’s attention to the fact that this matter involves the former president of the Republic of Zimbabwe and to that end has attracted so much public attention and put the Zimbabwean courts under an unnecessary spotlight.
Her (Moyo) subsequent refusal to review the community court’s decision is an indication of her unpreparedness or unwillingness to dispose of the matter and that is clearly infringing on my constitutionally entrenched right to a fair hearing.
“I implore this Honourable Court to exercise its inherent judicial powers to correct and guide provincial magistrates who might find themselves in the situation of Moyo particularly when matters of national interest as the present one have arisen.”
She further asked that the High Court conduct a review of Chief Zvimba’s directive as Moyo had shown that she had no interest in dealing with the matter.
Mugabe said the proceedings in the community court were a nullity on the basis of improper service of summons which were delivered to her Blue Roof Borrowdale home – well outside the chief’s jurisdiction. She argues that this fact alone ought to have given Moyo confidence in quashing Chief Zvimba’s ruling.
She is seeking an order granting her application for review; that Moyo’s June 29 letter “together with all the processes that ensued as a result of it are hereby nullified and set aside”; and that Chief Zvimba’s decision is reviewed and set aside in its entirety.
Chief Zvimba ordered the exhumation and reburial of Mugabe’s remains after accusing the late leader’s wife of breaking local custom by interring him at his rural home in 2019.
Mugabe, who was ousted in a coup that brought Emmerson Mnangagwa to power in November 2017, was buried at his village of Kutama after weeks of dispute with Mnangagwa’s government over his final resting place.
Chief Zvimba said he had received a complaint from Tinos Manongovere, claiming to be a Mugabe clan member over the manner of his burial.
He fined the former first lady five cows and a goat, before decreeing: “I give powers to those who are permitted by law to exhume the late Robert Mugabe’s remains from Kutama and rebury them at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.”
Chiefs in Zimbabwe have jurisdiction over their local subjects but it is rare for them to order families to exhume bodies for reburial.
Mnangagwa had pushed for Mugabe to be buried at the monument for liberation war heroes, but the family refused, saying Mugabe had expressed fears to close family members before his death that some of the people who ousted him would seek to conduct a traditional ritual with some of his body parts.
Police Officer Run Down At Roadblock- Citizens React
By A Correspondent- Zimbabweans have urged police officers manning roadblocks to change their conduct to avoid preventable injuries or even the death of some officers.
This comes after a police officer who was manning a roadblock at Ushewekunze turn off died after he was knocked down by a Toyota Hiace on Saturday morning.
In a post on their Twitter account, the ZRP said a 26-year-old Yutong bus driver failed to stop at the roadblock due to speeding and the bus hit a Toyota Hiace which then hit the police officer.
According to the statement, the injured police officer was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital where he died upon admission. ZRP said:
The ZRP warns motorists against speeding especially when approaching checkpoints and roadblocks. This follows a fatal RTA which occurred on 2/10/21 (0503 hrs) at a Police roadblock near Ushewekunze turn off, along S Mazorodze Rd, where a police officer manning the roadblock died.
A man (26) driving a Yutong bus failed to stop at the roadblock due to speeding and hit a Toyota Hiace vehicle which in turn collided with a Honda Fit vehicle.
As a result, the Toyota Hiace vehicle swerved and knocked down a police officer, who later died upon admission at Sally Mugabe Hospital.
Responding to the post, some members of the public called upon the police officers to improve their visibility of security checkpoints to prevent such unfortunate incidents. Below are some of the reactions.
“May their Souls Rest in Peace. Asi police at times roadblocks are necessary but please warn people a distant before the actual block come Chipinge first Block along Chipinge Mt Selinda border road unozoona kt police inohwandira vanhu vamwe we end up failing to stop”
“yesterday in bulawayo around 8 :30 am along Intemba road btn hyde park and pumula south i witnessed cops chasing a honda fit vehicle that had mad a u turn before a” suspicious” road block using their personal honda fit driven by a female officer.”
“Be professional …have a clear purpose for a specific roadblock/checkpoint ..pick a safe place with clear visibility from a distance and clearly put out informative signs… stop these ambush and opportunistic tendencies of fighting hard to find offences…”
“I drive around that area a lot..the road there is terrible… yo drums and signs are not visible.. this is a 2nd or 3rd issue of a cop dying.”
“Telling people to slow down on social media is not that effective. Be visible, have enough signage. Promote road safety by putting safety first. policing is not about catching people out.”
“May their soul rest in peace, although I totally agree with the sentiments here, some roadblocks are at inappropriate places, and some put the drums right at the centre and we have to go off-road after the police check, high unprofessional”
“That Block is not even visible… Mukuchekeresana henyu mega ipapo, after tollgate they are many speed humps for one to be over speeding by the time you get to the block”
“Be visible, put warning signs, not that black and white metal plate “police”, don’t put your full body to stop a vehicle.”
“Musaite mota dzekunyangira. İsai mainformative signs some metres away. Siyai netsika yekuita ambush mota. On my way to Mt Drwn ndakatozoenda musango police yangonyuka from nowhere!”
“And you must also be sensible when setting up the roadblocks. Your officers set up checkpoints at inappropriate points. The driver exercised diffensive driving. Haana mhosva”
Zim Investigates 4 Covid 19 Deaths
By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe investigated four deaths over possible links to Covid-19 vaccines, officials said on Sunday.
The four cases were among 96 reported post-vaccination adverse reactions, but none of them have conclusively been proved to have been caused by the jabs, the Medicine Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) said.
The MCAZ said 70 or the 96 complaints came from people who took the Sinopharm vaccine while 25 were recipients of Sinovac and one other was not specified.
Officials say the low number of complaints from the more than 5.3 million doses administered so far suggests the vaccines are overwhelmingly safe.
Shingai Gwatidzo, the MCAZ spokesman, told the Sunday Mail: “Out of a cumulative total of 3.06 million first dose and 2.3 million second dose of Covid-19 vaccines, the authority received a total of 96 suspected cases of Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI).
“The majority of the AEFIs were non-serious and were consistent with the safety profile of the vaccines as was determined from the clinical studies conducted by the vaccine developers, that is headache, dizziness, fatigue, general body weakness, itchy skin, itch rash, chills, sore throat, runny nose, blocked nose, sneezing, nausea, injection site pain, numbness of the injected arm and chests pains.
“A few serious illnesses were also reported and these included seizures, strokes, angioedema and deep vein thrombosis.
“The authority received four suspected AEFIs resulting in death following vaccination. Two were deemed to be coincidental and with insufficient definitive evidence to conclude that the deaths were caused by the vaccines, for example due to underlying medical conditions like hypertension and not taking medication.
“The other two fatality reports were pending postmortem, and causality assessment will be conducted after the postmortem reports have been received.”
Zimbabwe has so far approved four vaccines – Sinopharm and Sinovac from China, Covaxin from India, Sputnik V from Russia and Johnson & Johnson from the United States. Sinopharm and Sinovac, however, are the most dominant vaccines, while the country is yet to receive Johnson & Johnson shots.
Gwatidzo urged Zimbabweans who react after taking the vaccines to return to their vaccination centre and file a report. Health workers have been trained to document the AEFIs which are escalated to the MCAZ Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials Committee to determine whether the vaccines are linked to the adverse reactions reported.
“The authority encourages reporting of all suspected AEFIs so that appropriate regulatory decisions can be made,” he added.-Reuters
Tinashe Mutarisi Comments On Video Of Schoolgirl Barred From Entering Lodge Spark Social Media Debate
By A Correspondent- A comment by Tinashe Mutarisi on how society is causing more harm than good to the child whose video is circulating on social media while being denied entry into a Harare lodge has divided the social media.
A gild child was captured live on camera being barred from entering a lodge by concerned citizens who can be heard in the video shouting “mwana haapinde mulodge” meaning this child will not get into this lodge.
Said Mutarisi:
“I’m just disappointed that as a country we are busy slandering that young girl tichiti aienda ku lodge just for the wrong reasons. There are a million other reasons why that young lady would visit a lodge.Isusu we are judging her according to what we usually go to the lodges for. Gwati-Face To Face With Zim’s Brutal State Security Agencies
Like many other young educated Zimbabweans, Edmore Gwati had to toil for years in college so that he can develop his country for current and future generations.
And precisely that is why he had to spend four years studying for a degree in Information Systems at the Midlands State University in Gweru.
A fiery human rights activist, Gwati joined the Zimbabwe National Students Union, an anti-establishment students’ union body that is at college level opposed to the Zimbabwe Congress of Students, an appendage of the ruling party.
He wanted to see a better Zimbabwe where everyone had equal opportunities.
Despite the occasional clashes with the state security agencies because of his activism then, Gwati vowed to stay put and help build the ideal Zimbabwe where everyone had equal access to basic human rights and equal opportunities.
But that was not the case to be along the way!
Soon after college and as a first born in a family of four, Gwati soon realised that taking care of his siblings was going to be an uphill task with the level of corruption, looting and nepotistic tendencies that were obtaining in the country.
An idea struck the out of college and unemployed Gwati, a notion which he thought was the only way out of the sea of poverty which his and many other Zimbabwean families faced.
He told himself that the only way of changing the status quo was to join the pro labour opposition party- the MDC Alliance.
The MDC Alliance was formed from members of the broad coalition of civic society groups led by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.
And its core aspirations were to return the country back to constitutionalism, curb corruption, nepotism as well as provide an enabling environment for growth and employment creation.
Thus, the idea of joining the opposition became very attractive to those who had graduated from colleges and universities and had no formal employment
As he later narrated in an interview from his hide out, outside the country where he is domiciled for fear of reprisals from the brutal state security agencies, he said, “Due to my ambitions and desire for a great change in my country I later joined MDC Alliance as active member and was later appointed Youth Coordinator for Glenview South Constituency”.
Glen View south is located in Harare and is widely viewed as a stronghold of opposition politics.
Gwati lost two close associates in the hands of the brutal state agencies.
Precisely, it is one of the reason he has gone underground.
One by one they are being hunted and taken down for being active members of the opposition.
Glenview has always been a hot bed of opposition politics.
In March 2015, famous journalist Itai Dzamara, was abducted by state agencies in an unmarked car and never to be seen up to now in the same Glen View neighborhood.
It is widely suspected that he was killed in cold blood.
Gift Tandare, a well-known member of the MDC Alliance was also shot dead by state agents in the same area at a prayer meeting.
He was denied burial space in Harare, as government feared reprisals from the citizens.
Gwati’s role then was crucial for growing the opposition support base, hence he was targeted by security agencies linked to the ruling party.
Gwati organized two effective flash demonstrations against the spiraling high cost of living.
All hell broke loose, and the blood sucking state agencies put him under the spotlight.
As fate would have it, in November 2021, Gwati and his close opposition companions were on their usual daily regime that of mobilizing voters in light of the impending 2023 harmonized elections which are widely tipped to be a bloodbath, with the ruling party ZANU PF losing its stranglehold on power as a result of the high cost of living coupled with high unemployment levels.
As a result, their resistant nature made them unpopular with state security agents and ZANU PF watch dogs.
They were already a target for abduction and possible death.
Infact, when they organized a week long industrial action which led to the arrest of 200 demonstrators and the subsequent repressive military intervention which followed to quell the uprising, the quest from the regime for Gwata and his acolytes to be guest of the state in the dreaded torture chambers ran by the dreaded Central Intelligence Agencies grew.
State brutality on civilians grew by unimaginable proportions especially for known opposition activists.
As the state crackdown on human rights and other basic fundamentals grew, the, international community tightened the leash on the Zimbabwean government by extending the sanction regime.
Things would get worse in November 2021 when he started to be followed by unmarked vehicles.
All hell broke loose one night when he was coming out of a club with a friend who had visited from Namibia.
They were attacked by state security agencies escaping by a whisker, that is when he said enough was enough and decided to leave the country.
Chancellor Merkel, Creme de la Creme, Was About “Policy And Not Politics” Unlike Our Scum Of The Earth
By Wilbert Mukori- “Angela Merkel, leader of Germany for the past 16 years, is stepping down,” wrote Ngomakurira in The Zimbabwean.
“Much is being written about her legacy to Germany and the world but one comment, by Matt Qvortrup of Coventry University, is eye-catching: ‘She has turned German politics into a discussion about policy rather than politics.’
“Policy is about what we should be doing here and now to respond to the needs of the people for whom we are responsible. Politics is about what we should be doing to get the votes of those who support us. The others, for whom we are also responsible, can be ignored.
“Policy is focused on the common good and builds community. Politics is about responding to sectional interests and is divisive.”
Germany was in ruins at the end of the Second World War and yet, like Phoenix rising from the ashes, bounced right back to be one of prosperous nations on earth. Ask any student of history to name some of the qualities behind Germany’s success; hard work and meticulous attention to detail, they will answer.
It would be her meticulous attention to detail that would have forced Chancellor Merkel to value policy over politics. The spineless politician would go for the politics and the votes; she stayed the course, and pursued policy and the common good.
It must be said, she was luck to have to have in the German electorate a people with a discerning mind who valued Chancellor Merkel’s rational, calm, pragmatic and solution orientated approach to the rumble rousing empty rhetoric of other political leaders.
When Zimbabwe gained her independence in 1980, the country had a robust economy, had a very productive agricultural sector which was the engine driving the economy, had mineral wealth, flora and fauna and, unlike most other Africa countries, a well educated population. The country was “the jewel of Africa, look after it” as the late Julius Nyerere, President of Tanzania, told Robert Mugabe at the time.
Zimbabwe had the potential to become the South Korea of Africa; dynamic, prosperous and above all free and justice. Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were after absolute power and moved swiftly to establish a de facto one party dictatorship modelled on the likes of North Korea. The ordinary Zimbabweans were never given a meaningful vote to pick on the Zimbabwe they wanted.
Ever since 1945, Germany has had a healthy and functioning democracy and the nation has had the democratic space to allow quality debate and democratic competition to weed out the mediocre leaders to allow quality leaders, creme de la creme, to be elected into office.
I would say in 1980 Zimbabwe was a glass-full of wholesome milk to which was added a few drops of cholera infected sewage in the form of Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies. The glass-full of milk was transformed into a glass full deadly sewage! And from the pond of sewage scum, not cream, has risen to the top.
Zimbabwe, even after 41 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF rule, is not in the sorry economic state Germany was in 1945 and can easily rise from the gutter, dust herself off, and still be a proud, prosperous nation at peace with itself. The one thing stopping the national revival is the thick scum of corrupt and incompetent leaders who now believe they have the divine right to rig elections and stay in power.
The thick scum has bloated out the light and fresh air making the ordinary people weak and powerless to asset they basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life. There is no doubt that some day the people will break Zanu PF’s strangle hold on the nation but the chances are it will be to replace the corrupt and tyrannical regime with one mediocre regime after another.
Zimbabwe has the great misfortune to have corrupt and incompetent thugs like Robert Mugabe as leaders at the nation’s formative years, the rot has been woven into the fabric of the nation, it is near impossible to pick out and remove very one of the rotten fibres. Zimbabwe is like a broken clay pot, even if it can be put together again; a scratching finger nail will reveal the tell-tale hair line cracks.
Inlaws Team Up, Fatally Assault Violent Brother Inlaw
By A Correspondent- Guruve residents were left shell-shocked after a villager went beseark and axed his wife before his inlaws teamed up and fatally assaulted him last week.
The matter came to light at Guruve magistrates courts where Peter Chihaka (42),Anna Chigwededza (40) and Simon Andrew appeared before magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa facing a murder charge.
They were not asked to plead a murder charge and advised to apply for bail at High Court.
The state led by Albert Charewa allege on September 24 the now deceased Rufaro Chipatiko struck his wife Tracy Andrew on the head with an axe.
This angered the trio who teamed up and went on to retaliate at Chipatiko’s homestead killing him in the process.
After committing the offence the trio tired him in his bedroom hut trying to give an impression that he committed suicide.
The police investigated the case and dragged them to court.
Cigarrete Smugglers Nabbed, Hauled To Court
By A Correspondent- Thirty-seven suspects who were arrested while attempting to smuggle 76 cardboard crates of export quality Remmington Gold cigarettes out of the country into South Africa appeared before Beitbridge Resident Magistrate Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba last week.
The accused were arrested last Wednesday by members of the national security task force, which is implementing an operation against cross border crimes.
Prosecuting, Mr Ronald Mugwagwa said the security men at Point 40 near Vhembe Game Park, received information that there was smuggling activities at an illegal crossing point near the same area.
They then reacted and intercepted the 37 accused persons who were crossing into South Africa carrying the cardboard crates boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes.
The boxes were neatly packed in sacks that had been improvised as satchels.
Mr Mugwagwa said the group was subsequently arrested and the contraband was taken to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) for valuation.
The smuggling of cigarettes from Zimbabwe into South Africa through illegal crossing points along the Limpopo River relatively increased at the beginning of April last year prompting security from both countries to intensify anti-smuggling initiatives.
The market exists because of the high duties that South Africa charges, so it is possible to make a profit even buying cigarettes at retail prices in Zimbabwe.
It is understood that 30 percent of cigarettes in South Africa are from Zimbabwe with brands including Pacific, Remington gold, Mega, Dullahs, Branson, and Sevilles.
South Africa’s tax watchdog, Tax Justice SA (TJSA) has accused cigarettes manufacturers in the neighbouring country of paying lip service to tax laws following the surge in tobacco smuggling.
The organisation’s founder Mr Yusuf Abramjee said many shops in the neighbouring country were full of these illicit cigarettes, which rob South Africa of billions of rand in desperately needed taxes.
He said investigations by market researchers IPSOS revealed that 85 percent of GLTC-owned brands bought in the survey were sold below the minimum collectible tax rate of R21.60 per pack.
Mr Abramjee said it had also been established that every single pack of Remington Gold purchased in the survey was below the minimum and that some were sold for as little as R10.
“Most of these cigarettes are being brought in by foot, in commercial trucks, buses, and tankers, and the police, the army, and customs officials have been intercepting the smugglers at the border or various areas within the country,” he said.
“The smugglers are bribing officials to bring in their loads and this is bad for the local industry. We have been engaging SARS and we are happy that they are acting on plugging the loopholes, but still want to see them do more”.
Mr Abramjee also appealed to the South African government to carry out an inquiry into the smuggling and trade of illicit cigarettes.
“We need such an inquiry which will then inform the formulation of a long-term solution to this vice,” he added.
Investigations by the Herald reveal that the demand for Zimbabwe’s tobacco and related products by other countries has seen the establishment of well-orchestrated syndicates who facilitate the illegal trade.
While Zimbabwe exports tobacco to South Africa legally, not many manufacturerd cigarettes are exported because of the high duties. The smuggled cigarettes can easily undercut the South Africa prices if duty is not paid.
Statistics from the South African Revenue Services show that a total of 82 689 043kg of tobacco were imported from Zimbabwe between January 2010 until March 2015.
These include imports of Cigars, Cheroots, Cigarillos, and Cigarettes, of Tobacco or of Tobacco Substitutes.
Cigarettes imported from Zimbabwe pay duty at a rate of R6.21 per 10 cigarettes.

Marry Chiwenga’s Message To Men That Ill treat Their Ex- Wives
By A Correspondent- Marry Mubaiwa-Chiwenga, the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has sent an unclear message to “men that ill-treat their wives and or ex-wives.”
The former model sent her condolences to the Charamba family following the passing of the brother and former wife of George Charamba, the presidential spokesperson.
She posted on Twitter:
Condolences to George Charamba and his family on the passing of his brother and ex-wife, Dr Rudo Charamba, may her soul rest in peace. This is also a message to men that ill-treat their wives and or ex-wives.
Her remarks come when she is embroiled in a nasty divorce with VP Chiwenga whom she is accusing of abusing State institutions to ill-treat her.
She claims the former military boss of using the army to kick her out of their matrimonial house in Borrowdale.
Marry has also been accusing Chiwenga of being cruel by denying her access to her kids.
Last year, Marry’s doctor diagnosed her with lymphoedema and recommended that she be treated in South Africa because he believes that there are specialists there but she cannot as her passport was withheld by the state.
Marry recently indicated in court through her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa that she believes that doctors in local hospitals are afraid to write her an affidavit indicating that she needed treatment as they fear Chiwenga who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care.
Chief Garahwa Speaks On Displacement Of Local Villagers From Their Land

By Staff Reporter- Local traditional leaders in Chisumbanje said the noise about displacement of their subjects from their ancestral land is based on misinformation by individuals who were using land that belonged to Arda.
Chief Tobias Garahwa of Chinyamukwakwa area who has about 85 headmen under his jurisdiction said his subjects have for many years accessed dry land that belonged to Arda which had been lying idle which it did not have the capacity to use it all.
With the coming in of the Green Fuel massive ethanol project this meant that villagers had to pave way for the sugarcane plantations and this led to a misunderstanding between the locals and green fuel who had encroached into Arda land.
“When green fuel came it was announced that they would use land that belonged to Arda but because the company did not have the capacity to use all its land, villagers took advantage of that and for years had been ploughing the land that did not belong to them,” Chief Garahwa said.
“So this created a lot of misunderstanding between the company and the villagers who now thought that the land belonged to them since Arda had not been using it.”
Chief Garahwa said the situation of displacement was made worse by some villagers who refused to embarrass some of the empowerment programmes that were introduced by the new company.
“We all know that Green fuel looked at our situation of erratic and inadequate rainfall in our area and undertook to empower the villagers by giving them 10% of the land and turning it into irrigation and offered villagers each 0.5 hectares.”
“Others embraced it while the few rejected it but when they saw how it had changed the lives of many, they started spreading unfounded allegations about displacements from ancestral land.”
His sentiments were also shared by Councillor Edmore Masiya Ward 28 who said if one looks at the yields that were coming from the land that was being used by the villagers has been low as compared to the one coming from land irrigation schemes allocated to the villagers and being supported by Green Fuel.
“The yields had been very very low because of the unreliable rainfall and most ended up just relying on cotton as their cash crop but cotton has low producer prices as well,” said Clr Masiya.
“The irrigation scheme which now meant that villagers put three different cash crops underground in one season, smiling all the way to the bank hence changing the lives of the locals.”
“I also want to add that no villager was displaced but it was just a misunderstanding between the locals because villagers were ploughing Arda land which over years had not been utilised.”
“So, when green fuel came, they just took all the land that belonged to Arda as part of their lease agreement, hence the conflict with villagers who for long had relaxed farming the land.”
In addition, at the commencement of the ethanol project, a massive infrastructure rehabilitation program was undertaken to revive the waterworks at Middle Sabi and 78 A2 and 48 A1 farmers came online to draw water along the canal.
The Company also rehabilitated 18 existing small-scale irrigation schemes, stretching 1,700 hectares from Mutema and Tawona to Chibuwe, and catering for approximately 2,300 farmers.
The rehabilitation work centred on repairing and replacing water pumps, drilling additional boreholes to augment water supplies and the reconstruction of water conveyance systems.
A community irrigation schemes water engineering department run and financed by Green Fuel continues to see to the day to day needs of the schemes in terms of water conveyance.
A number of farmers have taken up contract farming in bananas for Matanuska and are doing extremely well.
Gvt Clears Air On CALAS
By A Correspondent- The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education says there is no going back on the implementation of the continuous assessment learning activities (CALAs) for examination classes in line with the new competency-based curriculum introduced in 2017.
CALAs is a new assessment that requires learners to perform and to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and proficiency.
It combines continuous assessment (CA) and high stakes examinations and pushes learners to apply their learning in context.
CALAs forms part of the weighted contribution to learner performance outcome at Grade 7, Form 4 and Upper 6 final examinations.
It is the assessment of a pupil’s progress throughout a course of study rather than exclusively by examination at the end of it.
Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister Edgar Moyo said that the government is going ahead with the implementation of CALAs, which is now a policy.
Moyo was officially opening a three-day continuous assessment framework workshop for district schools’ inspectors in the southern region in Bulawayo on Monday.
He said:
The various misconceptions will die naturally since CALAs has come to stay, although some people argued that we have to postpone it.
CALAs is a key component of the new competency-based curriculum, which was introduced in 2017.
It also has an assessment element in it, which we have delayed in implementing. The continuous assessment is meant to look at the formative side of the assessment of the abilities of children.
According to the Permanent Secretary’s Circular No.10 of 2021, CALAs implementation is now policy and learners who do not obtain marks for CALAs cannot obtain a final mark at the end.
Under the policy framework, the new grading system will see Grade 7 final results determined by 30 per cent of continuous assessment and 70 per cent on national examinations.
At Form 4, the framework states that learners’ grades be based 40 per cent on theoretical examination, 30 per cent practical examination and 30 per cent continuous assessment.
CALAs ultimately sets out what learners are expected to know and be able to do as a direct result of their learning in schools and non-formal education, starting from early childhood development (ECD) to secondary level.
At the moment, it only applies to examination classes.

Mambo’s Chicken Reprimanded Over Sexualised Adverts
By Jane Mlambo| The Zimbabwe Association of Accredited Practitioners in Advertising (ZAAPA) has reprimanded fast growing fast food outlet Mambos Chicken over its sexualised advertising content.
This follows a controversial Mambos Chicken advert which read, “Kana Akutengera Mambo’s Ngaapinde Hake amana” which ZAAPA loosely translated to mean that buying chicken for your woman should get you sex.
In a letter to Mambo’s Chicken, ZAAPA President Barry Manandi urged the outlet to desist from sexual slant in their advertising saying the particular advert bordered on violation of women.
“We have noted with concern, that in recent times your business has been exclusively using sexualised content to promote your products. While it is your prerogative to create the brand you desire, the introduction of lewd and course innuendo has come to the Association’s attention and members of the public have raised concerns around this.
“Your latest piece of work has been of most concern, as not only does it centre on your chosen sexual slant but further, insinuates the violation of women, using your chicken. The inference is around your suggestion as a brand, that at the purchase of Mambos Chicken for a woman, sex must be the immediate reward. in a society that has made it a policy to promote, elevate and empower girls and women, this is not only against Government policy but flies in the face of womanhood,” said Manandi.
He further noted that Mambo’s use of sexual slant had the potential to tear the moral fabric instead of their desired goal of promoting great tasting chicken.
“We now implore you, your marketing team and those handling your brand, from a creative perspective to assess whether your desire is to promote great tasting chicken, or to tear the moral fabric of the nation through advertising work that borders on the pornographic.
“We would like to urge you and marketing team to stop this practice forthwith, and use wit and satire to promote your brand , rather than this base, crass innuendo you have been using,” added Manandi.
Media scholar and feminist Delta Ndou credited Mambo’s Chicken for its application of newsjacking to build its brand but was quick to castigate the fact that the company only choses salacious and sexually explicit type of content which she said was wrong.
“The problem is that Mambo’s Chicken seems to more frequently jack news that is of a salacious and sexually explicit nature,” said Ndou.
“The brand profits from endorsing patriarchal values, particularly the notion that the sexual gratification of men matters more than female consent,” added Ndou.
Grace Mugabe Challenges Hubby’s Exhumation
By A Correspondent- Former first lady Grace Mugabe has challenged a court order to exhume her late husband Robert Mugabe’s remains for reburial at the National Heroes Acre, court papers showed Monday.
Zimbabwe’s longtime former ruler was buried in his rural home village of Kutama, Zvimba, about 90km west of the capital Harare, in September 2019 after weeks of wrangling over his final resting place.
His family had opposed the government’s plans to bury him at the National Heroes’ Acre in Harare, where it had started constructing a special mausoleum for him.
But in May, Chief Zvimba, a traditional leader, fined Grace Mugabe five cows and two goats for improperly burying Mugabe and ordered his exhumation and reburial in Harare.
Mugabe’s children then appealed the chief’s directive – but a magistrate court last month confirmed that order, saying the ex-president’s children had no legal authority to challenge the exhumation of their father.
That prompted Grace Mugabe to take over the legal battle.
Papers on Monday showed that the widow, in an appeal to the High Court, said the magistrate’s order upholding the directive of the traditional chief was “grossly irregular and unreasonable”.
Mugabe died in a Singapore hospital on 6 September 2019, aged 95.
He had been overthrown in a military coup in November 2017 which ended his autocratic 37-year rule.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government wanted him to be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre, which is set aside for heroes of the liberation struggle against colonial rule.
But Mugabe’s family said that before his death, he had told them he did not want to be buried at the shrine.
Five Nabbed Over Diamonds
By A Correspondent- Five men have been arrested for illegally possessing two diamond testers and twelve pieces of diamonds weighing 75 carats. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said police officers arrested the accused acting on a tip-off. Said ZRP in a Twitter post:
The ZRP applauds the public for supplying positive information which goes a long way in fighting crime. Police in Mutare acted on a tip-off and arrested Romeo Tembo, Luckmore Chikove, Tonderai Mandiwanzira, Teererai Chigariro and Munashe Mhazo for illegally possessing twelve pieces of diamonds weighing 75 carats and two diamond testers.
According to previous auctions, Zimbabwean diamonds normally fetch about US$400 per carat, although this can rise to as much as US$12 000 per carat.
Pindula News previously reported that diamond revenue has for long been a contentious issue with the late former president Robert Mugabe once claiming that revenue of up to US$15 billion had been stolen.
Auditor-General Mildred Chiri, in her report for 2019 that was released this year, revealed that both the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) and Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) failed to account for diamonds worth an estimated US$140 million.
The diamonds weighed 350 000 carats.
It is alleged that illegal mining is authorised by some corrupt officials in the security sector at the payment of huge kickbacks.
Teen Mum Dumps 1yr Old Baby In The Mountain, Elopes To New Lover
By A Correspondent- In a bid to please her new boyfriend, a Sakubva teen mum (15) did the unthinkable by dumping her one-year-old child in the mountain so that she could move in with her lover.
The teen mum (name withdrawn) appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi, facing infant exposure charges.
Her boyfriend, Admire Makurudza is alleged to have fled and is still at large.
Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza prosecuted.
The court heard that on July 12, the teen mum left home where she was staying with her grandmother with the intention of co-habiting with Makurudza.
“When she got to Makurudza’s place, he refused to take her in on the account of her son,” said Ms Chiwanza.
Makurudza suggested that they dump the baby somewhere.
The pair proceeded to a mountain near Nyakamete Industrial Area and dumped the baby in a bush.
Said Ms Chiwanza: “On the following day, the teen mum’s aunt, Sithabile Jesi, returned from their rural home and discovered that her niece had eloped to her boyfriend.
“She went to Makurudza’s place in an attempt to persuade the teenager to return home, only to discover that she was not with the child.”
After being interrogated, the teen mum revealed the truth and led her relatives to the site.
The baby was rescued and rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for medical attention.
The matter was adjourned to October 6 for sentencing.

Bread Price Hike Imminent
By A Correspondent- Grain millers in Zimbabwe have warned that there might be a bread price hike due to a decline in global wheat supply after major producer countries were hit by drought.
The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe revealed that only 20 percent of local wheat is mixed with imported wheat to produce bread.
Bread is between US$0.90 and US$0.95 a loaf.
Speaking to ZTN, GMAZ chairman, Mr Tafadzwa Musarara said because of the decline in supply of wheat globally, importing it will be expensive.
“There is a world decline on wheat supplies which has caused prices to go up. So, it does not necessarily mean a shortage, but the cost of importing has gone up. Here we are talking about imported wheat. So, there are many cases where the wheat is going up and the bread price is not going up,” said Mr Musarara.
According to Bloomberg, crop losses in two of the world’s biggest wheat exporters have pushed prices to multi-year highs, adding to worries about food price inflation for millions of the world’s most vulnerable.
Drought and heat continued to fry Canada’s wheat in July, months after a brutal winter hit the Russian crop.
Facebook Collapse, Zuckerberg Loses US$6 Billion In Hours
By Bloomberg-Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Facebook, has lost than $6 billion in a few hours following the collapse of his social media platform Monday evening.
Bloomberg reports that the development knocked him down a notch on the list of the world’s richest people.
A selloff sent the social-media giant’s stock plummeting 4.9% on Monday, adding to a drop of about 15% since mid-September.
The stock slide on Monday sent Zuckerberg’s worth down to $121.6 billion, dropping him below Bill Gates to No. 5 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He’s down from almost $140 billion in a matter of weeks, according to the index.
The world’s five wealthiest people are worth a combined $795 billion.
On Sept. 13, the Wall Street Journal began publishing a series of stories based on a cache of internal documents, revealing that Facebook knew about a wide range of problems with its products — such as Instagram’s harm to teenage girls’ mental health and misinformation about the Jan. 6 Capitol riots — while downplaying the issues in public. The reports have drawn the attention of government officials, and on Monday, the whistleblower revealed herself.
In response, Facebook has emphasized that the issues facing its products, including political polarization, are complex and not caused by technology alone.
“I think it gives people comfort to assume that there must be a technological or a technical explanation for the issues of political polarization in the United States,” Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs, told CNN.

How Did Tony Blair Become A Multi Millionaire?
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has appeared in a list of suspected tax avoiders and offshore crooks, documented in the The Pandora Papers – a leak of almost 12 million documents that reveals the financial dealings of some of the world’s most powerful individuals.
The development is set to get Blair and his wife probed over how the couple amassed wealth to the tune of USD50 million.
Tony Blair was elected leader of the U.K.’s Labour Party in 1994 after speaking out against the abuse of the tax system. He went on to serve as prime minister for three terms, from 1997 to 2007. He then tried to broker a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians as a “special envoy” for the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations, the ICIJ reports.
Blair’s wife, Cherie, is a lawyer. Since Tony Blair left office, the couple has bought more than 38 U.K. properties worth nearly $50 million, the Daily Mail reported in 2017.
In early 2017, Tony and Cherie Blair registered a U.K. company named Harcourt Ventures Ltd., a property rental firm, according to British property records.
That summer, the company bought a British Virgin Islands entity named Romanstone International Ltd., which owned a building in London valued at $8.8 million, according to property records.
Romanstone International had been a subsidiary of a real estate firm owned by the family of Zayed bin Rashid al-Zayani, Bahrain’s industry and tourism minister. The Pandora Papers for the first time reveal the link between the al-Zayanis and the London property.
By acquiring a company that owns a property, instead of acquiring the property directly, the Blairs were not required to pay property taxes, according to experts consulted by The Guardian, an ICIJ partner. The arrangement — which is legal — allowed them to save more than $400,000, according to The Guardian.
In a statement to the BBC, an ICIJ partner, a spokesperson for the Blairs said that they “were aware” that land tax “is not payable in respect of the purchase of shares” and that the seller requested “to structure the transaction this way.”
The London building now hosts the headquarters of Cherie Blair’s law firm. The BVI company, Romanstone International, was closed in 2018. The U.K. company, which now owns the building, remains active.
When reached for comment, Cherie Blair said that her husband was not involved in the transaction and that “all the arrangements made were for the express purpose to bring the company and the building back into the UK tax and regulatory regime and all taxes have been paid ever since and all accounts openly filed in accordance with the law.”
She also said that she “did not want to be the owner of a BVI company” and that the “seller for their own purposes only wanted to sell the company.”
Through their lawyer, the al-Zayanis said that their “companies have complied with all U.K. laws past and present” and that Minister al-Zayani is “one of several beneficiaries of the Companies.”
Alcogal said that neither Tony nor Cherie Blair were their clients. “The owner of the company in our records transferred its ownership, and the new owner appointed another Registered Agent,” a spokesperson for the Panamanian law firm was quoted by the ICIJ. – source: ICIJJ

Nick Mangwana Celebrates Social Media Collapse
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF government’s secretary for Information, Nick Mangwana, yesterday celebrated social media platforms’ server outages.
Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger stopped working shortly before 6 PM, on Monday.
Facebook has nearly three billion accounts, Instagram with more than 1.3 billion and WhatsApp has over two billion active accounts.
The social media platforms apologised to the whole world through their Twitter accounts, saying they were working tirelessly to restore the Apps.
Celebrating the crashing of these social media platforms on his Twitter page, Mangwana mocked the public, saying, “you must be suffering”.
“So these guys have crashed. And you are suffering big time right now. That’s a sign that you need therapy,” he posted.
Zimbabweans resort to social media to speak the truth to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s maladministration.
The government has a history of arresting citizens who would have challenged the status quo through social media.
Detained Fearless Chamisa Ally Denounces Mnangangwa
By A Correspondent- Fearless MDC Alliance youth leader Makomborero Haruzivishe has denounced President Emmerson Mnangagwa administration from his Harare Remand Prison Cell.
He wrote a letter and was seen by Pindula online news publication, Haruzivishe, who said Zimbabweans should push for democracy.
The MDC-Alliance youth leader is detained on allegations of “inciting public violence and resisting a peace officer” after protesting over the deteriorating democratic space.
Here is Haruzivishe’s letter:
Dear Comrades and friends,
In case you’re wondering, I’m enduring prison quite well. I’ve been prosecuted countless times over the past decade that I made a gentlemen’s agreement with pain. Having been arrested an average of three times a year, tortured numerous times since 2011, I have come to appreciate that pain has its place and I don’t mock its power.
But it is a power that doesn’t touch my soul.
This solidifies in me the art of endurance. Yes, ENDURANCE is the word. I knew the word but never had the opportunity to really “feel” it, “touch” it, but was forced by circumstances imposed on me by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s dictatorship to live it. Indeed I’m living it, and I’m not so blind to military state capture to believe that it will end any time soon, as the subsequent capture of the justice system can prolong the seven months I have endured to seven years through more unjust convictions, but to me it doesn’t matter anymore. I will endure it to the very end.
You know, we have to face the facts; things aren’t getting any better. They are getting worse. All we are asking for is a Zimbabwe where every child gets a fair chance of quality education and every adult gets a fair chance of a decent earning, but all we are getting is corruption and abuse — yet in 2017, many believed things have changed, but they changed for the worse.
Just another dictator, ED, with an even worse agenda; the perpetuation of military state capture, a worse type of governance with an increasingly ruthless, ever widening network to act it out.
Who knew before 2017 that there is a terror network of state agents called the “FERRET” squad who would be deployed against unsuspecting citizens with specific order to abduct, torture and harass them?
Who knew before 2017 that there was a car rental company called IMPALA that is contracted by the government to ferry terror squads to our homes and move citizens to torture bases.
Because of such terror networks that are sponsored with our taxes; thoughts of real death, not the remediable conceit now of imprisonment as a unique death, becomes an insistent, strident companion to such an extent that when gunshots were fired during my arrest: I was ready.
Despite all this, we must never waver from the fact that justice is the first condition of humanity, and we deserve pure, undiluted justice.
We must tattoo it in our hearts that “I have the power, you have the power, and together we can make the change because people’s power is stronger than the individuals in power”.
With this tattoo we must action our power through exercising our constitutional rights of freedom of assembly, association, demonstrate and petition in the streets, freedom of expression on social media, for now is the right time to stop agonising and intensify organising. After all, we are the ones we have been waiting for.
More importantly comrades and friends, we must register to vote because after all is said and done, all popular democratic revolutions end in the ballot box.
Worry more about yourselves, the future of our beloved Zimbabwe, the next generation — and worry less about me, for I definitely will come out, sooner or later, dead or alive.
After all, as I was enduring my birthday on 23 April, yeah, ENDURE, because birthday in prison is unlike birthday anywhere else. In prison, one doesn’t exactly celebrate their birthday, one ENDURES it. As I turned 29 years old, I reminded myself that some say life begins at 40, so I’ve got 11 years to 40. But since the life expectancy for Zimbabwean men is around 30 years, I cherished the realisation that I have already lived a full life, so either way I am in charge!
I REMAIN IN CHARGE

Citizens Call For Immediate Holding Of By-elections In Line With Constitutional Provisions
PRESS STATEMENT.
03 October 2021
“The Hard Talk with Paddington Japa Japa!!!!”
ZIMBABWEANS DEMAND FOR IMMEDIATE HOLDING OF OVERDUE BY ELECTIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONSTITUTION OF ZIMBABWE AMENDMENT (No 20) ACT 2013, ZCEO PRESIDENT P. JAPA JAPA SAYS!!!!
The President of one of Zimbabwe,s Largest Civic Society Organisation, Zimbabwe Centre For Equal Opportunies (ZCEO) Mr Paddington Japa Japa has called on Mnangagwa’s unrepentant Zanu Pf Government and ZEC to respect the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 20) Act 2013,including the Electoral Laws which makes it legally mandatory to hold Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Authority Elections after every 5 years.Required by law is also holding by elections within a Period of 90 days after declaration of a vacancy. We as a Civic Society Organisation representing millions of oppressed and marginalised Zimbabweans, do hereby demand for immediate holding of all the overdue and outstanding by elections, for the vacant Parliamentary and Council Seats that have been created by MDCT Mwonzora,s illegal recalls and deaths of some MPS and Councillors, around the Country,s ten provines.Chapter 7 Part 1 of Section 155 of the Zimbabwean Constitution under the Caption,PRINCIPLES OF ELECTORAL SYSTEM;(1) reads, the Government must hold regular elections and referendums which must be (a) peaceful, free and fair.
(b) conducted by secret ballot.
(c) based on universal suffrage and equality of votes and,
(d) free from violence and other electoral malpractices.
(2) The State must take all appropriate measures, including legislative measures,to ensure that effect is given to the principles set out in subsection (1) and in particular must (a) ensure that all eligible citizens, that is to say the citizens qualified under the electoral law are registered as voters.
Section 158, TIMING OF ELECTIONS,(1) A general election must be held so that polling takes place not more than (a) thirty days before the expiry of the five year period specified in section 143; (b) where Parliament has passed resolutions to dissolve in terms of section 143 (2 ),ninety days after the passing of the last such resolution,or
(c) where Parliament is dissolved in terms of section 109 (4) or (5) following a vote of no confidence, ninety days after the dissolution.
(2) General elections for local authorities must take place concurrently with Presidential and Parliamentary general elections.
(3) Polling in by- elections to Parliament and local authorities must take place within ninety days after the vacancies occurred unless the vacancies occur within nine months before a general election is due to be held,in which event the vacancies may remain unfilled until the general election.
The Zimbabwean Law is very clear there that after every five years from the appointed date and whenever there is a vacant seat created either by an MP or a Councillor dying, incapacitated by sickness, recalled, resigns, sentenced to jail, the vacant seat must be filled as soon as the law allows.
Under the Zimbabwean situation, it is almost a year and half now since most MDCA MPS and Councillors were illegally recalled by the Con Court created Mwonzora’s MDCT.ZEC has not bothered to hold the by- elections in accordance with the Electoral Act and as provided for in the Constitution.Zanu Pf Mnangagwa lead Government has taken advantage of the various prolonged Covid 19 emergency lockdown measures to avoid holding of overdue outstanding by elections. Despite the fact that Zimbabwe has got the least number of Covid 19 related deaths and cases, according to Ministry of Health and Childcare latest statistics.Surprisingly Zanu Pf has been holding its uninterrupted countrywide rallies,Cell,Brach,DCC,Provincial,Politburo and Central Committee restructuring excercises throughout the Country’s ten Provinces during Covid 19 pick periods. Many African and European Countries eg Malawi,Zambia,Morocco, USA,Germany,UK, have successfully held there elections during the Covid 19 peak periods.Surprisingly Zimbabwe with its lowest Covid 19 infection cases and death rate, is avoiding holding by- elections were the opposition MDCA will participate.
The Reason why Mnangagwa,s Government is avoiding holding by-elections is not because it cares so much about the welfare of its Citizens, no, not at all, it is because the Regime is afraid of loosing the by-elections to Chamisa, s MDCA.
Zanu Pf leadership knows very well that they have fraudulently stayed in power ever since 2008,surving by the skin of their teeth. They have been rigging the Presidential and Parliamentary elections for the past 13 years. Zimbabweans voted massively for Tsvangirayi,s MDC Party in 2008, in a election that was marred by serious pre and post election violence and bloodshed, more than 300 MDC followers were killed in cold blooded style.Zanu Pf Government thrives on vote rigging, violence, intimidating political opponents, crafting draconic laws that disadvantage the opposition, continous changing of electoral goal posts, to suit there wicked ways of Governance. The regime leadership intend to remain in Power forever, they know very well that they have committed serious crimes against humanity, that warrant death sentences if investigated and brought up for trial before competent courts.Zanu Pf leadership is full of corrupt individuals who are plundering the country’s wealth, externalising and siphoning millions of United States dollars into Foreign Nostro Accounts, for future use in case they are removed from office.
Everyone at Zanu Pf is corrupt including those in the Presidium not even one of them is professional, the entire rogue cabal deserves to be removed from power in the next general election.Outstanding Electoral laws must be aligned with the Constitution, there are a lot of reforms which need to be implemented before the 2023 election.
We Zimbabweans from the Opposition Demand for Holding of outstanding overdue Parliamentary and Local Authority by- elections.ZEC must do their work professionally, not the hide and seek tactics they are undertaking.Only a day before yesterday ZEC organised a private meeting with a few little known Pro- Zanu Pf opposition bunch of individuals, including its con-court created surrogate side kick MDCT, lead by Bishop Muzorewa incarnate Douglas Mwonzora,a sell out,who sold Democracy in Zimbabwe in exchange for 4 x 4 twin Cabs, and thousands of United States Dollars.Internatioal Community Organisations like UN,EU,AU and SADC must intervene to rescue genuine opposition political parties who are under siege in Zimbabwe.Genuine Opposition Democratic forces must join hands to refuse further oppression and election rigging by Zanu Pf come 2023.

Mnangagwa, Mwonzora Afraid Of Elections
Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF president Emmerson Mnangagwa and captured opposition leader, Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora are secretly planning to circumvent by-elections and the 2023 polls, ZimEye.com has learnt.
Impeccable source have revealed both men are afraid of polls- hence the plot to suspend voting processes.
MDC T national chairperson, Morgen Komichi, quoted by NewsDay, claimed elections without reforms were a waste of time as they would be disputed.
“People need reforms, and it will be foolhardy for people to just be programmed. Let’s move away from this programming and see what has made our elections disputable for these last years.
We must come to reality and say because we don’t have electoral reforms, the outcome is predetermined and can be manipulated, and it will be stupid for Zimbabweans to go for an election or a programme that they know the outcome is predetermined.
The time is now for the people of Zimbabwe to go to the drawing table to say what are the serious issues affecting us, and then we do a process to welcome whoever the winner is,” claimed Komichi.
He further claimed Zimbabwe was now poorer because of the country’s preoccupation with elections for the last two decades.
“For the last 20 years, people are not concentrating on the economy, and that is why the country is poorer and poorer. Soon after voting, there is a dispute, court challenges, Sadc is involved and people do not benefit from
that.
People want national dialogue, a process that guarantees them better living and is predictable. With the experience of the 2008 dialogue, the 1987 unity dialogue among others, they are positive on the dialogue process to resolve conflict. We have a challenge as Zimbabweans right now that we are only two years before elections, but we have never sat down to dialogue over a thing like electoral reforms, and you know our elections have been disputed since time immemorial. To me, it will be very unreasonable for us as Zimbabweans to just assume things will be okay on their own without us taking action as far as the pushing for national dialogue is concerned,” he told the publication.
Komichi also said there were negative perceptions regarding the Political Actors Dialogue as a Mnangagwa baby.
“But let us come back and say it was an effort to create a dialogue platform. What can we do as Zimbabweans to make it more friendly and inclusive? Let’s move away from the politics of acrimony.
That will be the product of the dialogue, but what we need is something that will benefit the people of Zimbabwe. Whatever comes of the dialogue that will benefit the people of Zimbabwe will be welcome.”

Mwonzora, Chamisa Re-unite
By A Correspondent- The opposition MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora and MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa have agreed to field one candidate to contest council elections in Matabeleland South Province.
Over 80 council by-elections are pending across the country, and more than 40 parliamentary seats are vacant after the MDC-T recalled legislators and councillors affiliated with the MDC Alliance.
However, by-elections were suspended by the government due to COVID-19 regulations.
MDC-T’s Matabeleland South provincial executive has said it is opposed to recalls and wants unity talks with other opposition parties to ensure victory against Zanu PF.
The party’s chairperson in the province, Ekem Moyo, who is former Gwanda South legislator, said:
We are planning on having one single candidate from the MDC Alliance or MDC-T so that we push the Matabeleland South agenda. The electorate is clear that it wants a united MDC.
On Friday, the provincial executive led by Moyo, provincial secretary-general Younger Moyo and organising secretary Bekezela Maplanka met a number of MDC Alliance councillors in Gwanda to strike a unity pact.
He added that they were working with councillors from the MDC Alliance adding that they were elected and should not be sacrificed or fired as that might be against the interests of the electorate.
In terms of section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution, legislators and councillors can be recalled at the instigation of the party that got them elected into Parliament.
Electoral watchdogs like the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) have, however, expressed concern over the slow pace in implementing electoral reforms ahead of the by-elections and general elections in 2023.
