Zim Records 50 Cases Of Omicron Variant

Zimbabwe’s senior doctors have called for vigilance as the country braces for the fourth wave of the Covid-19 outbreak driven by the newly discovered Omicron variant.

The Omicron variant was first detected in South Africa and Botswana causing panic throughout the world.

Western countries last week banned travel from southern Africa, including Zimbabwe, citing the emergence of the variant.

On Friday, Health and Child Care deputy minister John Mangwiro said Zimbabwe had reported 50 cases of the Omicron variant.

The Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) said citizens must strictly adhere to World Health Organisation (WHO) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In a press statement, ZCPHP, an association of specialist public health doctors, said the surge in cases in the past few days was a cause for concern.

The doctors urged all citizens to double up physical distancing, wear face masks, and wash their hands.

Added the doctors:
Get vaccinated urgently against Covid-19, vaccines save lives.

ZCPHP also urged Zimbabweans to avoid or reduce non-essential travel and visits, to minimize interactions with people from other households.

It encouraged healthcare practitioners to increase the level of clinical suspicion/presumption of Covid-19, and look out for patients who are potentially sick with Covid-19.

OPINION: Haapinde Mukomana As Chamisa Misfires.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The “ Ngaapinde hake Mukomana campaign” song for MDCA has hit the heights in psyching the mood to prepare for the 2023 harmonised elections. The lyrics are great and the message is a ringing endorsement for the coronation of “King Nelson.”So the blind and deaf among us are dancing to the off tune song and falling for the traitors’ sweet nothings to a tune that is mocking them.

A slogan is a memorable motto or phrase used in a clan, political, commercial, religious, and other context as a repetitive expression of an idea or purpose, with the goal of persuading members of the public or a more defined target group. The Oxford Dictionary of English defines a slogan as “a short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising.A slogan usually has the attributes of being memorable, very concise and appealing to the audience.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

Whether you work for a startup, own a small business, or are on the marketing team for a big corporation, a great slogan tells your customers your mind and what you will be offering them should you succeed in you campaign.
So the Ngaapinde hake Mukomana is a retired call with signs of dejection and rejection. It makes it very clear that the aim of the whole party is only to be at state house and nothing more.
A slogan is a simple and memorable catchphrase that draws an audience to a particular brand or product. The MDC Chamisa did not hide their aim. They have nothing to offer to Zimbabwe but just to seek a way up to the top with no regards to the people. We all know that effective slogan is a key component of successful marketing along with your logo and brand name.
The MDC slogan its a descriptive slogan: A descriptive slogan describes what your business does or what it can offer to potential customers in a memorable phrase. So all we can see here is an emotional or Emotive slogan. Emotive slogans leverage your product or service as a way to give your audience a particular feeling or fulfill an emotional need—like relaxation, connection, joy, or excitement. Ngaapinde hake Mukomana is very clear that once the mukomana is inside there will be no other allowed even to try to be near. The slogan then becomes a stark warning to Zimbabweans that Mukomana is a mere thief eying the most high seat in the land. The Ngaapinde hake Munomana becomes an emotive and Persuasive slogans. A persuasive slogan attempts to convince your customers that your brand or products can help them solve a particular problem. So the question is What problems can be solved by simply asking a boy to come in. The absence of reason and nothing to offer shows that the change MDC is asking for is just to gain power. This is a selfish but a clear warning that one must run very fast away from those digging in party obsessed by power.
A slogan is a brief and indelible phrase that encompasses an offering’s appeal. MDC has clearly shown that they do not have the best interest of the people at hesrt
Slogans are always defined as “short and brief”. There exists a psychological rationale for this – it is believed that it takes almost 7 seconds to form a first impression. Short-term memory is shorter than you think! Therefore, slogans ought to be “short and brief and meaningful. The later is absent in the MDC slogan.
Lastly, the definition terms slogans as a phrase “that encompasses an offering’s appeal”. A slogan is essentially an invitation toward your offering. The invitation, therefore, must encapsulate your product or your brand vision or your service’s benefits, etc. It should be an independent, brief and holistic phrase. But the MDC has simply shown the nation that they do not care about people but power.
Why should anyone in their rightful mind promote a proponent of sanctions. Chamisa and Biti are the high priests for sponsoring and authoring Zidera, the American law for sanctions. The song is proclaiming “the great leader” to march to Statehouse to govern. What a sorry state. Lest we forget, “The red on the flag of Zimbabwe is not mere colour coding, but a stark reminder that it is through blood that we paid for our freedom”. It is common cause that the western powers were incensed by the land redistribution we embarked on in the 1990’s and are still pushing on.
It is also common knowledge that the process was not smooth, be it by design or by default. That part of the revolution would never be smooth nor peaceful. Remember, the events of the late 1990s are nothing compared to frog marching the landlords into slavery while driving them from their heritage. Diabolic! In their desperate effort to reverse the gains of the revolution the western powers always try to create chaos and division. The language of democracy has taken centre stage in the quest to subvert the government. Traitors have been there and history has so many and we are not spared of such in this day. So a partnership of evil amongst the western manipulators and the desperate opposition are now acting judge and prosecutor for “the fit for governance test.” What a mockery of the very democracy they have failed. Who was judging western rule in colonies and slave trade? Why are the perpetrators of evil refereeing governance. Our democracy cannot be sacrificed on the alter of western dogma. Zimbabwe refuses to submit to the whims of white supremacy. To the extent that after the events of 2017 that saw the former president leave office Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti posed on the steps of Congress at Capitol Hill as they pleaded for sanctions against Zimbabwe. Well, the objective was to weaken the government of Zimbabwe and pave the way for regime change through social strife.
Sanctions against Zimbabwe have decimated livelihoods, infrastructure and the economic challenges Zimbabwe faces are largely on the back of the punitive sanctions sponsored by the high priests for national chaos led by Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti. So any mention of “Ngaapinde” is tantamount to insanity. It is like allowing a rapist to marry the rape product. We cannot allow the perpetrators to feast on the suffering they have caused. The criminals must be tried and not honoured. Kana vakapinda kunosunga ma sanctions ngavagare ikoko kumasanctions mu Zimbabwe havapindi.

Special Tribute To Dewa Mavhinga

By Maureen Kademaunga

The first time I saw you, 13 years ago, I was due to speak on period poverty at a Dignity Period Campaign Rally at Trafalgar Square, London.

I was young, inexperienced and obviously nervous but you patiently coached me on how best to deliver my message with passion.

On the same day you told me two things about yourself that always intrigued me; that you were a feminist and that you had once worked for a women’s organisation – both facts were very strange phenomena to my then young mind.

On 19 November of 2017, I shared a platform with you in Johannesburg where we spoke strongly against building the blocks of a Zimbabwean democracy on the foundation of a coup; but unlike Trafalgar, there was no pre-coaching yet your small nodes as I spoke were so assuring and took me back to the first day I met you. It was then that I realised how you had always been there since Trafalgar Sq, offering gentle and sober mentorship, like the big brother that you were to all.

Fearless Cde – Dhewa Mavhinga | Obituary

Today I am an angry man. The last time I was this angry was when our father Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirayi died. I am angry because Dhewa Mavhinga was a fighter, a fearless warrior, the best we had in the civic society. I’m angry because we are one brave soldier short in the struggle.

I remember when he came to Washington DC to testify before the US Senate- brave, vociferous, unperturbed, blunt with the regime yet remaining truthful and factual.

He churned out before the world shocking statistics of human rights abuses by Zanu PF without blinking an eye, fearless and oblivious of what the regime could do to him. He represented the people well – he spoke on behalf of the muzzled millions – He stood with the people of Zimbabwe . He defended the people like he always did as he was always on the side of the People! What a man!

A year later we were to interact again in Johannesburg. One phone call and the appointment had been made to meet at his offices despite his busy schedule and the short notice. He was a very humble and down to earth, an intellectual, a fundi, a smart lawyer who would converse with you in eloquent Shona, deep Shona rich with tsumo, madimikira and nyaudzosingwi. You would marvel at how the man was so articulate in both Shona and English . Check his Facebook page and see how he wrote fluently in Shona.

See his last post on varoyi and mhondi as if he was for telling his death. Did he knew his fate? Of course as a big critic of the regime he was always “an enemy of the state” hence a target . Did he knew the “ devil /varoyi/mhondi were after him. He wrote a few days before his death, “ …..kunobata nguva dzerunyanhiriri wakaipa anenge ari pakupota-pota. Vaya vetsero nemapere vanenge vovhimira kuenda kuti vasayedzerwe vasina kudzimba. Ndiwaya mashambanzou mukai tinamate“ literally translated it would be , “ … in the early hours of the morning that’s the time the enemy is most active -The witches and the bad guys will be going for the final kill – the wee mornings are dangerous times so wake up and let us pray. ”

The Shona used by Dhewa was pregnant with many meanings. Did he knew “ wakaipa” ( bad guys) were coming after him. “ …. Vasayedzerwa vasina kudzimba” ( so it’s not time before they eliminate the target) Did he mean that “ wakaipa (the bad guys) were obliged to finish off someone before day break/ before time. Only Mavhinga knows what he meant because only him knew what he was seeing and what he was feeling at the time of writing that post. All I know is he was a pain in the back of the ED Mnangagwa regime- he was one of ED’s biggest critique and ED doesn’t like critiques. He assassinates critics using everything the Russians taught him.

Either way Cde Dhewa, we will finish this struggle in your honour and in honour of many others that have been assassinated before you. Rest In Power my brother!

Zimbabwe shall be free and we shall live freely ever after without fear of the “leaders” .

David Moyo Ends Goal Drought

David Moyo has ended his goal-drought after netting Hamilton Academical’s solitary strike in the home victory against Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship.

The Warriors international netted the goal from the spot in the 65th minute to hand his side its first set of maximum points in five games.

Moyo had last found the back of the net in October, and the latest strike takes his league tally to two goals this season thus far.

Elsewhere, Admiral Muskwe came off the bench and registered an assist for Luton Town in the English Championship.

The Zimbabwean featured for the final thirteen minutes of the 3-0 win at Blackpool and created Luton’s third goal right on the stroke of fulltime.

Muskwe is yet to score in the league and the assist is his first since arriving at Luton in the pre-season.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Real Betis Stun Barcelona

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez lost his first game since taking over the reigns as his side succumbed to a 0-1 defeat at home to Real Betis in LaLiga on Saturday.

Juan Migel’s 79th minute sucker punch condemned the Catalan giants to their first loss under the guidance of their former midfield ace.

Barcelona have struggled for goals this season- they have scored only 23 goals this campaign, their lowest tally after the 15 games, since the 2003-4 season.

Up next is a decisive away trip to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, a contest they need to win to salvage their faltering Champions League campaign. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

“Munyu Hauchavavi” Cop Fined

By A Correspondent- A police officer who appeared in a viral video while dressed in Police uniform, holding a swipe card, while displaying local currency notes and lip-syncing to the lyrics of the song “Munyu Hauchavavi” by Blessing Shumba, has been ordered to pay a ZWL$300 fine, according to the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum).

“Munyu Hauchavavi” is a ChiShona phrase that means “salt has lost its taste” and the police officer was apparently mocking the paltry salaries earned by Government employees in Zimbabwe.

In a post on their Twitter page, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, said they will appeal the judgement.

The Forum said:

Munyu Hauchavava cop to spend 5 days in detention and pay a ZWL300 fine after he was convicted of posting Whatsapp statuses that could force the public to identify him as a member of an opposition party. ZimHRNGOForum to appeal the judgement.

Sections 5, 7, 35, 42 and 48 of the 29th and 34th Schedules of the 2003 Police Act criminalise the spreading of reports that cause alarm and despondency, insubordination and or taking an active role in politics by either speaking at political functions, wearing branded clothing and chanting slogans.

On 3 October this year, the Officer Commanding Mt Darwin District sent a memorandum to all officers-in-charge of stations in the district, raising the issue of misuse of social media platforms by police officers. That was after the Munyu Hauchavavi video had gone viral. The memo read:

TO OFFICERS IN CHARGE STATIONS MT DARWIN DISTRICT
FROM OFFICER COMMANDING POLICE MT DARWIN DISTRICT
DATE 03/10/2021
Index 670/21

SUBJECT MISUSE OF SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS BY POLICE OFFICERS
Repeated hereunder is Deputy Commissioner General [Operations] memorandum dated 29 September 2021 and Propol Mash Central memorandum 2569/21 dated 01 October 2021 with the above subject.

Reference is made to Chief Staff officer [Operations] memorandum 110/20 dated 22/01/20

This Headquarters has noted with concern the proliferation of photos and videos on social media platforms where police officers are openly seen denigrating the Government, uttering political statements and improperly dressed with some female officers posting sexually seductive photos and videos in full Zimbabwe Republic Police uniform .

This conduct is tarnishing the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s image and is contrary to the dictates of the disciplinary code as espoused in the Police Act, Chapter 11:10.

Commanders are implored to immediately identify such members and take decisive action which includes disciplinary trials and boards of inquiry (suitability).

The current trending video on the social media where two members are seen openly dressed in Police uniform, holding a swipe card, while displaying local currency notes and lip syncing to the lyrics of the song Munyu Hauchavavi (Salt) by Blessing Shumba, is a case in point.

Commanders are to acknowledge receipt of this important memorandum by 0800 hours today 04/10/21.

MT DARWIN DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS

Sticky Fingered Senior Top Cop Nabbed

By A Correspondent- A senior Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer was arrested recently by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly stealing 15 cattle.

The cattle belonged to a United Kingdom-based farmer, Chido Matewa who was accused of ill-treating the animals by leaving them to starve.

Esther Doloba (48) who holds the rank of Inspector in the ZRP, is jointly charged with Constable Naison Rashamira who is still at large.

Dobola recently appeared before Rusape magistrate, Obedience Matare who remanded her out of custody to 13 December on $7 000 bail.

Prosecuting, Justice Masanganise said in 2016, Matewa was reported to the police for ill-treating her 46 cattle.

Doloba who was the Officer-in-charge at ZRP Nyazura allegedly connived with Rashamira to steal 15 beasts and shared them among themselves.

Masanganise said in a bid to cover up the theft, Doloba and Rashamira applied for a warrant to seize the cattle and take them to Zunidza Farm.

On the face of it, the beasts were to be kept safe under the supervision of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

However, the duo did not record the cattle they had taken possession of in the police exhibit book, or in any police books.

On her return from the UK, Matewa was advised of the situation and she went to Nyazura Police Station.

She was charged with contravening Section 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Chapter 19.09 where she was alleged to have starved 46 cattle.

Matewa was also accused of causing the death of 15 of the missing cattle.

The police officers refused to accompany her to the farm and show her the carcasses of the 15 cattle they alleged to have died.

Doloba allegedly threatened to jail Matewa if she refused to share her remaining cattle with her.

Rashamira later took Matewa to court where she was tried and acquitted.

At the time, the stolen cattle were valued at $180 000 and nothing was recovered.

ZACC Locates Unexplained Assets Worth Over US$700million

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) says it has located unexplained $730 million worth of assets whose owners must explain how they acquired them or risk losing them to the State.

Appearing in Parliament before the parliamentary portfolio committee on Justice to discuss the 2022 national budget, ZACC commissioner Gabriel Chaibva revealed that they were dealing with almost 200 suspected corruption cases. Said Chaibva:

Of these, the anti-graft body secured six convictions and recovered $52 200 000 (US$600 000), which had been siphoned by bigwigs.

But if the remaining cases fail to prove the source of the fortunes estimated at about $680 million, the assets may be forfeited by the State.

Chaibva bemoaned the $294 million allocated to the commission in the 2022 national budget presented by Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube last month, saying it was inadequate.

The anti-graft body has been accused of allowing high profile individuals to evade justice, the “catch and release” style, but the commission said it requires significant resources to pursue corruption cases in the country.

In the document presented before Parliament, ZACC said the target was to send 180 cases to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).-standard

Minister Fumes Over ZESA Failure

By A Correspondent- The Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Dingumuzi Phuti has criticised ZESA for failing to attend to electricity faults timeously resulting in some areas going for two months without power.

Phuti was speaking during the commissioning of a 4G base station by State-owned MNO NetOne at Nopemano Primary School in Bulilima West in Mandlambuzi on Friday.

He also suggested that there were some government agencies that were sabotaging the government‘s programmes. Phuti said:

I do not know what the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) is thinking should be done about the computers put to schools where there is no electricity for two months.

Surely that does not deserve any condonation, but it is a perfunctory approach to responsibilities.

I do not know which government some people serve. We in the Ministry of ICT Postal and Courier Services serve a government where the principal is (Emmerson) E D Mnangagwa.

He is a man who does not want nonsense, but he wants us to work and be the servants of the people.

Phuti, who is also the local MP, said ZESA had promised to restore electricity in the area but he expressed scepticism over the power utility’s response.

He said the installation of the base station will enable people in the area and other surrounding areas to access local news and mobile network services.

Phuti said people in the area have been accessing networks using neighbouring Botswana base stations.

Villagers were forced to climb mountains seeking network connections.

The new base station covers a radius of 29 kilometres.-NewZim

40 Man Squad Named

By A Correspondent- FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza selected a 40-man squad that has provisionally been registered with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the delayed 2021 AFCON finals.

Mapeza was in charge of the Warriors on an interim basis for the national team’s last four World Cup qualifiers.

“Be Safe”: HolyTen’s Message

By A Correspondent- Renowned local rapper, songwriter, and music producer, Mukudzei Chitsama, better known as Holy Ten, has waded into the emotive issue of sexual consent amid escalating cases of “date rape”.

In a post on his Twitter page, the artiste warned young men against taking advantage of their partners when they are inebriated to indulge in sexual intercourse but rather seek their explicit consent as they could end up on the wrong side of the law. He wrote:

Boys rangu kana azobvuma only after arohwa nema hunters dry, usarove masinhi. Munomuka riri docket kana maintenance. [My dear colleagues, if she only consents after a few drinks, never engage in sexual intercourse with her, otherwise you will be arrested or end up at the Maintenance Court]. Be safe around issues of consent.

This comes at a time Zimbabwe is commemorating 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with the rest of the world. It runs between the 25th of November and the 10th of December.

Meanwhile, during a recent interview with State media, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi called on women and girls to be cautious and avoid situations that can lead to date rape. He said:

We have come across such incidents in our line of work over the years, and they have been exacerbated by social media.

In most cases, individuals meet and date on social media platforms such as Facebook or WhatsApp, after some time they arrange physical meetings, which in most cases, the woman or girl is raped.

So, as the police, we implore women and girls not to go on dates in secluded areas with people who are strangers.

Mnangagwa Ally Scoops 15 Government Tenders, Pockets US$45 Million

By A Correspondent- Fossil Group owner and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s close associate, Obey Chimuka, has reportedly pocketed US$45 Million from government-related transport tenders.

Chimuka is also a close associate of tycoon Tagwirei, an adviser to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Chimuka is a long-time business partner of Tagwirei’s mining investments, having served on the mining holding company Landela Investments board.

Since June this year, the Fossil Group has been awarded more than 15 contracts, collectively worth almost US$45 million, by the Transport and Infrastructural Development ministry.
The bulk of the contracts are for the construction of roads and highways, which include roads serving the historic Alaska copper mine northwest of Harare.
This mine is being reopened under the name of Grand Sanyuan Copper Resources after a Chinese investor put in US$12m to co-own the mine with the State-owned Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation.
In addition to these contracts, Chimuka’s group has also been awarded the construction of new access roads and military parade areas at the barracks housing the headquarters of the Zimbabwe National Army and the Air Force of Zimbabwe in Harare.
In August last year, the US placed Tagwirei and his firm Sakunda Holdings under sanctions over his support for the Zimbabwe government.
The US also said Sakunda was involved in what it says is unaccounted for US$3 billion allocated under the Command Agriculture programme.

Motorist Assaulted By ED Soldiers

By A Correspondent- A 25 year old motorist was on Saturday assaulted by soldiers who were part of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s escort.

The incident happened at the intersection of Seke and Cripps roads in Harare in the morning.

The motorist, Malvern Samakande, was later detained at the Mbare police station on charges of obstructing the presidential motorcade.

Samakande was released after paying an admission of guilty fine of $2 000 following the intervention of Human Rights NGO Forum lawyer Nobel Chinhanu.

Said Chinhanu:

The Forum has attended today at Mbare Police Station to represent Samakande, who was accused of failure to obey road signs and signals.

Allegations are that Samukande failed to give way to the presidential motorcade.

It was alleged that Samukande failed to obey multiple police officers stopping the movement of traffic and was only stopped by the presidential guards.

This was not the first time that a motorist has been arrested for obstructing the presidential motorcade.

In 2016, Joseph Chakanetsa was sentenced to two years in jail for cutting the then President, the late Robert Mugabe’s motorcade in Harare.

Chakanetsa was convicted by the court of negligent driving on his own plea of guilty.

He was slapped with another 60-day jail term for failing to stop after committing the offence.

On top of that, Chakanetsa had his driver’s licence cancelled and he was banned from driving heavy vehicles and public transport for life.-standard

Demo Against Zanu PF’s Chadzamira

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF supporters in Masvingo Thursday staged a second demonstration against the Minister of State for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira accusing the top politician of engaging in corrupt activities.

The demonstration at the ZANU PF provincial offices was staged a day before Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s visit to the city Friday for a clean-up campaign.

Zanu PF Women’s League members donning party regalia, waved placards denouncing Chadzamira accusing him of corruption and dividing the ruling party.

The minister, who doubles as the party’s provincial chairperson, stands accused of allocating land and mining claims to close allies while abusing his political muscle.

ZANU PF Masvingo provincial commissar Jevas Masosota confirmed there was a demonstration against Chadzamira but said the party was fully behind the embattled minister despite the shenanigans to soil his name.

He suggested that the demonstration could be connected to the upcoming ZANU PF provincial elections.

Chadzamira who is said to be a top ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa was recently arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over alleged corruption.

However, the matter was dropped following the intervention of senior ZANU PF officials.

Reports suggest that there has been intense fighting between Chadzamira and his Vice-Chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa who is allegedly eyeing to take over the chairmanship post from Chadzamira.

Meanwhile, former ZANU PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu has warned that the opposition MDC Alliance will gain ground in the province if the intraparty fighting continues. He said:

The confusion in Masvingo Province is a big advantage to Chamisa, mukaita zvokutamba mukomana Masvingo unopinda akavhara kumeso chaiko. [Chamisa will easily take Masvingo if you continue fighting] This demonstrations must be solved nicely kwete zviya zvechibhinya bhinya [not violently], vatotanga kuti #NgaapindeHakeMukomana kumamisha hazviperi mushe. [the rural folks have already started chanting Chamisa’s slogan – NgaapindeHakeMukomana].

Earlier this year, war veterans staged another demonstration in Chiredzi against Chadzamira over the corrupt allocation of sugarcane plots in the Lowveld.

Mnangagwa Unleashes War Vets On Chiwenga

By A Correspondent- Some members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), an affiliate of ZANU PF, have reportedly been dragged into the ruling party’s perennial factional fights.

The Standard reports that a ZANU PF faction loyal to President Emmerson Mnangagwa is said to be actively pushing for the ouster of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga by using the ex-combatants.

Mnangagwa loyalists in the ZNLWA have reportedly targeted Chiwenga’s backers for ouster, with Douglas Mahiya, who is secretary for war veterans in ZANU PF, being singled out by war veterans loyal to the President.

Members of the ZNLWA in Mashonaland Central Province recently organised a meeting at the Mt Darwin Sports Club.

They resolved to bar Mahiya from interfering in their affairs by trying to impose Chiwenga loyalists in their structures.

According to resolutions of the meeting seen by The Standard, the war veterans expressed unhappiness over Mahiya’s frequent unsanctioned visits to the province. The resolutions read in part:

We, the undersigned representatives of the veterans of the liberation struggle, are concerned about the unsanctioned and divisive visits to our province by Cde Mahiya, which has resulted in the loss of focus, confusion and serious division among veterans themselves and our party at large.

We noticed Cde Mahiya is moving around with his team restructuring the veterans league against the party and president’s directive.

For some time Cde Mahiya has been visiting our province.

We would like to put it on record that as veterans of the liberation struggle in Mashonaland Central, we distance ourselves from Cde Mahiya’s actions and motives.

The former fighters implored Mnangagwa to censor Mahiya, saying he was sabotaging ZANU PF’s campaign ahead of the 2023 elections.

The Mashonaland Central war veterans’ provincial chairperson, Samuel Parirenyatwa, confirmed the meeting to The Standard but refused to comment further.

Mahiya refused to comment, saying: “I am at the farm. My phone has a problem. I am not hearing you clearly.”

Newly-appointed ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa was reportedly not picking calls.

Meanwhile, The Standard reported insiders as saying that the war veterans wanted to pass a vote of no confidence in Chiwenga before the 2023 polls.

A war veteran who requested anonymity said his colleagues who are loyal to Mnangagwa think that Chiwenga is behind the group of war veterans protesting over poor pensions to discredit Mnangagwa.

Chiwenga has repeatedly denied accusations that he is plotting against Mnangagwa and he recently warned ZANU PF can amend the Constitution to make Mnangagwa president-for-life.

Chief Ndiweni At Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Office | FULL TEXT, VIDEO

By Chief Felix Ndiweni : (transcript by ZimEye) Today is a historic date, it’s a very good date; it’s a wonderful date, we are here on the streets of London outside Downing steeet; the air is biting, it’s chilly chilly cold, we’ve got gloves on; we’ve got everything on but still we say we had to do it, to hand in the petition.

Why is it historic today? It’s historic purely because on this level…today is the first occurrence, the first opportunity the first occasion since 1979, when the last constitutional Chiefs from Zimbabwe, came to Downing Street, handed in anything in Downing street. That event happened in 1979.

Chief Felix Ndiweni at Downing Street

The Chiefs who did that, were the late Chief Khayisa Ndiweni, and the late Chief Jeremiah Chirau. Those were the two chiefs who came to this place. Today we find ourselves having to once again come to this place to hand in a petition, once again, to have to engage the international arena, in particular to engage Her Majesty’s govt, the govt of the UK, to try and assist, to walk with us in our walk, to try and find a path through this

…particular difficulty that we have right now in Zimbabwe. Just as in 1979 exactly the same thing as in 1979; We are now faced with the situation of democracy; we are faced with the situation of rule of law; we are faced with a situation of lack of governance in that part of the world which is our country.

And this petition is specific because we are asking for the Zimbabwean diaspora to be allowed to vote; we want to engage the Zimbabwean diaspora so that they can vote and vote in a manner that is more than that is new, electronic voting there is no need whatsoever for the Zimbabwean diaspora to fly all the way back to Zimbabwe in order to cast a vote. That is ancient, that decrepit. It is full of corruption.

It could never work. We want the vote for the 5.5 million Zimbabwean diasporans scattered to the four winds of the earth to be able to vote and cast a vote we are very mindful that we have heard a recent reports that the Zimbabwe election commission has closed its doors for the month of December this month and exactly the time when Zimbabweans are making their way back home with the impetus with the need to make their vote, so when they arrive back in Zimbabwe they will find the commission doors closed they will not be able to register their vote they will not be able to cast their vote come 2023 so we are very tested by this, that is why we have come here on a cold day in London to Downing Street to hand this petition in but for us as I said earlier on the significance offered the significance is that once again a Constitutional Chief has had to come to 10 Downing Street to engage Her Majesty’s government for assistance in assisting us to find our way.

Social Media Reacts To Dewa Mavhinga’s Death

Following the untimely death of top human rights campaigner and Southern Africa Director for Human Rights Watch, Dewa Mavhinga while in South Africa, prominent Zimbabweans have taken to social media to express their shock at the loss of the man who touched the hearts of many with his humility.

Below are some of the Twitter posts by Zimbabweans touched by his death;

Security Roadblocks To Chamisa’s Home A Sign Of Fear and Panic

_I have never seen a roadblock of that magnitude in a rural area even in urban areas or highways. The roadblock which was at Chiwara(Gutu) turnoff along Mupandawana–Roy road. There were police officers who numbered about 10 .There were about 6 soldiers.A very good number in causal attire…suspected they might be CIOs.There were AK47 which I did not count. The road to Chiwara which goes to MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa’s rural home was barricaded with spikes. The spikes were of high standard and about half a metre in width. Some civilian registered vehicles were parked in bushes about 50 metres away from the roadblock. Only during the war of liberation i have seen Ian Douglas Smith’s roadblock was of such standard. Mnangagwa must be in panic .Chamisa is giving the regime sleepless nights. The organization of such high level security roadblock demands high level of planning and time consuming. The people who were traveling to Gogo Chamisa’s tombstone unveiling were shocked by such mental sickness of the regime to fight a weaponless Chamisa.

Mnangagwa: Everyone Must Copy SB Moyo And Ignore Social Media

State Media-Zimbabweans should not be misled into hating their own country by a non-existent world created on social media platforms, but instead must take a leaf from the likes of the late national hero, Dr Sibusiso Moyo, who fought gallantly for the country’s freedom as a young man, President Mnangagwa said yesterday.

Speaking at a memorial service held for the late former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade at his rural homestead in Mberengwa, President Mnangagwa said it was every Zimbabwean’s duty to protect the country from its detractors.

Dr Moyo died on January 20 from Covid-19 related complications.

“I exhort our young people to take a leaf from the sacrifices made by the likes of the late Cde SB Moyo and others like him to liberate the country,” said the President.

“I call upon the youth to love and hold in high regard their country, communities and families.

“Never be led astray by a virtual and often non-existent world created on social media.

“Hold on tightly to our rich cultural heritage and Zimbabwean value system.

“Never allow detractors to drive you to hate or denigrate your motherland.

“This country called Zimbabwe was given to us at a cost of blood, let us all protect it from neo-colonial plunderers and supremacists.”

The country has in recent times fallen under a barrage of brazen interference from the West which has been clandestinely using its local lackeys in the form of civic society organisations.

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe is for Zimbabweans in both good and bad times and only its people can uplift it.

Those who want the country to be run similar to other countries, they should go there.

“We will govern our country according to our traditions, values and customs.

“Those who want to help can only do so on our terms,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans should embody qualities of patriotism, loyalty and dedication as was the case with the late Cde SB Moyo, who was reliable in good and bad times, first as a soldier and later as the face of the country’s engagement and re-engagement efforts.

“The late Cde SB Moyo was a man with a big heart and a true friend to many, who was always prepared to go an extra mile.

“He was indeed a trusted and loyal soldier, whether during operations or undertaking administrative and political duties.

“He put 100 percent into everything he did. He had an enviable sense of dedication to his country, work and colleagues.

“When times got tough, the late General SB Moyo would be one of those still standing at the end.

“He was never a coward and never backed out of difficult tasks, even if the risks had far reaching consequences.

“In November 2017, he was a key player in the peaceful transition from the First Republic to the Second Republic, and indeed become the face of what was dubbed ‘Operation Restore Legacy”, said the President.

The memorial service was attended by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Zanu PF Second Secretary and Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Professor Amon Murwira, Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo, Minister of State Security Owen Ncube, Minister of Environment and Tourism Mangaliso Ndlovu, Service Chiefs and senior Government officials.

President Mnangagwa said the presence of senior Government officials at the memorial service demonstrated the extent to which the Second Republic valued the late national hero.

“We have come here, Sekuru Moyo (Cde SB Moyo’s father). The entire Government is here; the Command structure is here, this is a demonstration that your son was a rare breed, patriotic and loyal servant of the nation.

“In order for our nation to develop, let us work hard, both in our individual and collective capacities. We gave SB the post of Foreign Affairs Minister when our name was not in good standing globally. I assigned him to go to the UN (United Nations) and engage the world. He was able to engage with people like (British Prime Minister) Boris Johnson whose friend had lost a farm at the height of the land reform programme, and today we are on talking terms. The groundwork was laid by SB. He went to the EU (European Union) nations and now they have removed most of the sanctions,” President Mnangagwa said.

Speaking later during the National Tree Planting Day commemorations held at Masvingo Primary School, President Mnangagwa told thousands of people who gathered for the event that the country can only be built by its people.

The National Tree Planting Day is observed on the first Saturday of every December annually and yesterday the President said there is a need to plant more trees and protect the environment. – Sunday Mail

Douglas Munatsi Family Demands Answers

State House – A fire broke out in apartment C9 at the palatial Northfields Complex in Harare in the early hours of Monday.

The occupant of the luxurious flat was top investment banker and chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) Mr Douglas Munatsi.

Munatsi wife and children

It has since emerged that around 2.50am Mr Munatsi alerted neighbours of a fire in his penthouse and called out for help.

Charles Gardiner — one of his neighbours, who is also chairperson of the Northfields Owners Association — was among the first to hear the distress call and duly called the Harare Fire Brigade.

Within 11 minutes of the call, firefighters arrived at the scene. They took two hours to fight the raging inferno, by which time Mr Munetsi had already died.

The ZIDA CEO will be buried today at Greendale Cemetery in Harare, marking the end of an illustrious life of a pioneering corporate mind and patriot.

Investigations are still underway to find the cause of the fire.

The Sunday Mail reached out to the City of Harare’s fire department, who referred all questions to the police.

“All communication on this matter has to come from the police,” council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme said.

And Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations are ongoing.

“We are still conducting investigations and if any new information comes up, we will let you know,” he said.

A police source close to the investigation told The Sunday Mail that police are keen to interview a woman only identified as Colleta, who was the last person to see Mr Munatsi alive.

“We are still to account and interview the woman who is alleged to have visited the deceased the night before his death. We are also waiting to receive the report from the Fire Brigade to ascertain the cause of the fire. But so far there is nothing new,” said the source.

The Munatsi family has commissioned a separate autopsy with a South African pathologist as they seek closure.

This publication has gathered that the family intends to compare their autopsy report with one being undertaken by Government pathologists.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail, the Munatsi family spokesperson, Mr Teddy Gazi, said they have lost a family pillar who uplifted many lives.

“He was an employer, educator and benefactor of many close and extended family members.

“He employed many relatives at Kunatsa Estates, Jacob Bethel and while at FMB and BancABC to name a few.

“He was looking after many orphaned and underprivileged children,” said Gazi.

Asked on whether the family suspects foul play, Gazi said they will wait for the report from law enforcement agents before they reach any conclusions.

“The family is grateful and appreciates the State assistance,” he said.

A sombre mood engulfed the ZIDA headquarters this week as Doug’s former colleagues struggled to come to terms with his sudden demise.

ZIDA chief investment and corporate affairs officer Mr Tino Kambasha described his late boss as a person who could bring out the best in everyone.

He said he remembered how they burnt the midnight oil while setting up the inaugural ZIDA secretariat.

“It was very difficult. Remember, he was appointed during Covid-19 and we had to work under extreme pressure. I was the first executive to be appointed at ZIDA, so I saw all the work he was putting in to make sure that the organisation succeeds,” he said.

“I remember when we would work long hours, holding interviews via Zoom seeking the right candidates for the various roles we had. We used to work extremely long hours.”

Mr Munatsi, he said, was gifted with wit and humour.

“He was a happy character, who loved to joke around a lot. Each time he walked into the office, he would bring either a joke or play us a new song he would have discovered,” he added.

Mr Munatsi was a gym and golf fanatic, who dedicated most of his free time to fitness and treading the golf course.

He leaves behind his widow Bindzile and sons Mussa, Bongani and Douglas Jnr. –Sunday Mail

Mapeza Reveals Selected Squad

By A Correspondent- FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza selected a 40-man squad that has provisionally been registered with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the delayed 2021 AFCON finals.

Mapeza was in charge of the Warriors on an interim basis for the national team’s last four World Cup qualifiers.

The ZIFA general manager for all national teams, Wellington Mpandare, revealed that the 23-man Warriors squad for the Africa Cup of Nations finals will be selected from the 40-man list.

CAF regulations stipulate that all participating nations have to send their final squads 10 days before their first match.

Zimbabwe open its campaign against Senegal on 10 January and this means that it has until New Year’s Eve to send the squad list to CAF.

Mpandare indicated that they have already sent invitation letters to clubs. He said:

The final 23 squad has to be submitted 10 days before our first game, so it should be by December 31.

The 40 players were selected by Mapeza and his technical team. The final 23 will be selected from these 40.

He however did not disclose the 40 players selected by Mapeza who failed to win a single game during his tenure as the caretaker boss.

The Warriors are in Group B together with west African giants Senegal and Guinea as well as central African minnows Malawi.-standard

“No Schools Closure”: Gvt

By A Correspondent- The Government has no plans to close schools before the end of the term on 17 December despite an exponential rise in new coronavirus infections across the country.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care recorded only 40 new cases on 28 November but the figures have been rising since then.

On 29 November, 255 cases were reported, with the number rising to 1 042 on 2 December, 1 062 (3 December), and 1 082 (4 December).

Director of Communication and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Taungana Ndoro told The Sunday News on Saturday that there are no plans to close schools early.

He said:

This term still ends on 17 December, we are not planning to close early, teachers, pupils and parents must not panic.

Exams are also progressing well and we have not had any incidences related to COVID-19.

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) said there is no need to close schools prematurely which will unnecessarily disrupt the school calendar.

This comes as some universities have reportedly stopped face-to-face lectures as a way of controlling the spread of the pandemic.

Lupane State University (LSU) marketing and communications director Zwelithini Dlamini told The Sunday News that lectures at the institution have ended, saying it was to do with exams that start on Monday-statemedia

59 Prisoners Break Out Of Jail

Fifty-nine prisoners have broken out of correctional facilities countrywide this year, largely due to negligence of guards who now face disciplinary action.

Figures obtained from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) show that 48 inmates also escaped custody over the same period last year.

In an interview, ZPCS Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu said negligent prison officers will face the music.

“A total of 59 escapees have so far been recorded in 2021 as compared to 48 recorded over the same period in year 2020,” he said.

“However, notwithstanding such escape incidents, the ZPCS continues to conscientise its staff on the need to be vigilant during the call of duty.

Comm-Gen Chihobvu said over 2 000 prisoners have been infected with Covid-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

He said 90 percent of all prison officers have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

“As part of measures to contain its (the virus) spread, the ZPCS has been religiously following and adhering to both the WHO (World Health Organisation) and national guidelines and protocols to prevent the spread of this virus.”

He added: “Those infected have been isolated to curb the spread of the disease. Uptake of vaccination has also been pleasing.

“We are also cognisant of the fact that there is a new variant that was recently detected in Botswana and South Africa, hence the ZPCS continues to conduct awareness campaigns within its cantonment areas.

“In terms of statistics, a total number of 992 officers and 2 038 inmates were infected with the virus, with 32 deaths being recorded (10 officers, 18 inmates and four dependants).” -Sunday Mail

Zim Wanted Chinese Man Arrested In UAE

One of the seven Chinese nationals who slipped out of the country while on bail after being arraigned on charges of money laundering and possession of more than 20 kilogrammes of rhino horns has been arrested by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) in the United Arab Emirates after spending over two years on the run.

Luck ran out for Zeng Denghui (21) when he was arrested in sensational fashion in Abu Dhabi in October, becoming the first member of the gang of seven to be nabbed by the international crime busting organisation.

He now awaits extradition back to Zimbabwe. Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“We can confirm that on October 15, 2021, the Zimbabwe Republic Police received a message from the Interpol National Central Bureau, Abu Dhabi, advising on the arrest of Zeng Denghui.

“Now the necessary extradition processes are being effected through the Government systems,” he said.

Zeng along with his alleged accomplices Peicong Wang, Liu Cheng, Yu Xian, Long Zhu, Chen Xianfu, and Qiu Jinchang aged from 23 to 35, were arrested in Victoria Falls on December 23, 2018 after they were found in possession of 20,98kg of rhino horns worth an estimated US$1 million.

They were charged with money laundering and possession of rhino horns in violation of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act and the Wildlife and Parks Act respectively.

A Hwange magistrate presiding over their cases remanded them in custody for four months, before they were granted bail by Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Maxwell Takuva on April 26, 2019.

The seven were ordered to pay $5 000 bail, restricted from travelling beyond a 10km radius from Victoria Falls without notifying authorities and to reside at 858 Aerodrome Road in the resort city until finalisation of their case.

Police sources told The Sunday Mail that sometime between their release from remand prison and September 2019, the seven made good their escape.

In what was an intricately planned escape, the seven, with the help of Bulawayo-based policeman Wonder

Tawanda Kwaramba, drove from Victoria Falls to Sango Border Post in eastern Zimbabwe, a journey of more than 900km, in a stolen car.

From Sango Border Post, the gang was driven across south-central Mozambique to Maputo where they proceeded to the safety of a Chinese fishing boat that was due to sail them home.

Kwaramba was later charged with obstructing the course of justice.

Their escape came to light after they failed to turn-up for their routine bail appearance in September that year.

This prompted the police to notify Interpol.

Interpol immediately placed the seven on the Red Notice, joining over 7 600 other criminals wanted for committing offences ranging from terrorism, corruption, human trafficking and escaping lawful custody.

A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

The notice is issued for fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence after judicial proceedings in the country issuing the request.

According to the Red Notice, the gang is wanted for being in, “possession or sell(ing) or otherwise disposing of any live specifically protected animal or the meat or trophy or any such animal.

“Unlawfully acquiring, use or possess property knowing or suspecting at the time of receipt that such property is the proceeds of crime.”

Court papers used to prosecute the gang in Victoria Falls show that on December 22, 2018, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (MFFU) in the resort city received information that house number 858 Aerodrome was a criminal haven for Chinese nationals suspected to be in possession of pieces of rhinoceros horns.

On the same day, the detectives applied for a warrant of search and seizure.

The following day, detectives proceeded to the house to carry out a search.

“The detectives started their search from a room which was at the far end of the sitting room whose door was open.

“Accused 2 (Wang) indicated that the room was being occupied by accused 3 (Cheng).

“In that bedroom alleged to be occupied by accused 3, the detectives recovered one plastic bag close to the bathroom way on the floor.

“The plastic bag contained pieces of rhinoceros horns. A few centimetres away another plastic bag was found on top of a small cardboard box.

“The plastic bag also contained cut pieces of rhinoceros horns.

“In the same room, the detectives saw a plastic bag protruding from a bed base and they retrieved it.

“The plastic bag also contained cut pieces of rhinoceros horns.

“Closer to the bed base, the detectives recovered some small packets each filled with cut pieces of rhinoceros horns neatly packed in a silver suitcase.”

The detectives also recovered a portable digital scale on the floor.

“The large quantities and manner of packaging of some of the cut pieces of rhinoceros horns was in such a way that a concerted effort was made by the seven accused persons.

“The manner in which the house was being occupied, where the seven accused persons used the same sitting room, cooked and ate together, showed common purpose.

“Based on the above facts, the detectives arrested all the seven accused persons for illegally possessing pieces of rhinoceros horns.”

Further investigations revealed that the seven had no formal business in Zimbabwe yet they were paying pay monthly rentals of US$1 500 for the premises which were paid for least two months in advance yet they had no income to match this expenditure.

ZimParks spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo said: “We are doing a lot of awareness and it seems like our judiciary officers are beginning to appreciate the importance of penalising rhino poachers in the country.

“That is why you see some people getting as much as 35 years imprisonment when it comes to poaching our rhinos.”

An international manhunt for the rest of the gang continues. -Sunday Mail

Is Mnangagwa Afraid Of Voter Registration Blitz?

Tinashe Sambiri|Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust has described the failure by the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa to address the issue of voter registration as unfortunate and disheartening.

Mr Mnangagwa did not say a word about the key process as the nation prepares for by-elections and the 2023 harmonized elections.

On the 30th of November 2021 the whole Nation was happy to hear the President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s address to the nation on measures responding to threats of a New strain of COVID-19 virus Omicron detected first detected in South Africa. As ZEAT we are happy that our President was proactive than reactive.

We also note with pleasure that the President has finally come out clear on by-elections dates which he said will be held in March next year.

All these were surely steps in the right direction but unfortunately His Excellency’s address was mum on voter registration blitz as we prepare for the by-elections and the 2023 harmonised elections.

He said nothing about granting the right to vote to virgin voters considering that the right to vote is one of the most important basic and Fundamental Human Rights as evidenced by Section 67 (3) (a) of the Constitution.

We therefore humbly call upon the honourable office of the President in his capacity as the number 1 citizen and the chief custodian of the law to make sure he exercise his duties as clearly stated by Section 90 (2) (c) of The Constitution of Zimbabwe and rise above board and do something towards making sure that virgin voters are granted the right to vote. High School Teacher’s Mysterious Death Shocks Community

MASVINGO – Nyamande Primary School teacher in Gutu Fordrick Macheka (41) collapsed and died 30 minutes later after being bitten by a snake on Wednesday.

Nyamandi High School chairman, Innocent Bhera confirmed the death in an interview with The Mirror today.

He said that there is confusion however on what really caused the death because Macheka cried out and said he had been bitten by a wasp.

He collapsed immediately afterwards and therefore no one could really ascertain what had bitten him.

However, nurses at the clinic said there was snake poison in his body.

A fellow teacher at the school, Nyamande, Linos Mupumha said Macheka was cleaning his car near a mango tree when he was bitten in the head. He cried out that he had been bitten by a wasp but did not take long before he collapsed.

He had just come out from a class where he was invigilating. He was driven to Mutero Mission Hospital where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

The deceased’s body is at Masvingo Provincial Hospital for postmortem. Sources said he would be buried at his rural home in Nerupiri. -Masvingo Mirror

Mavhinga’s closest friend and academic @Pedzisai Ruhanya mourned the top human rights defender on his Twitter account.

ZIFA Board “Resumes” Duties Despite Suspension

The Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board has resumed duties as the fight between the country’s football governing body and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) continues.

The SRC suspended the Kamambo-led administration on November 16, citing several violations, chief among them failure to account for public funds.

ZIFA lawyers however filed an appeal at the Administrative Court this week, making the initial suspension invalid pending the finalization of the issue.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to the nation that following the suspension by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) almost two weeks ago, the ZIFA board after extensive consultations, instituted an appeal with the Administrative Court in line with Section 32 of the SRC Act, which provides for an appeal by an aggrieved part to any decision by the SRC,” ZIFA said in a statement.

“The board also resolved to out of courtesy and respect, officially write to the SRC to formally inform them on the board’s resumption of duty after noting of the appeal.”

“It is the board’s hope that the SRC, being the creature of statue, will respect our own laws and allow football to breath while engagements with FIFA and court processes attended.”

“Bringing back AFCON preparations back on track, taking cognisance of the limited time before AFCON 2022. As such, the board resolved to immediately engage the targeted coaches and conclude such arrangements within two days. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

SRC Dismisses ZIFA Board Appeal…

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has hit back the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board, telling them that the suspension imposed on them still stands regardless of an appeal made to the Administrative Court.

The cat and mouse affair between the sports regulatory body in the country and the ZIFA continues, with the Kamambo-led administration informing the nation earlier today that they are back in charge at 53 Livingstone Avenue, pending a hearing at the Administrative Court.

SRC has however rubbished that appeal and insisted the ZIFA board is still suspended.

“Whilst a so-called ‘appeal’ has been noted in terms of Section 32 of the SRC Act, kindly note
that this action does not have the effect of suspending the decision of the SRC to suspend
the entire ZIFA Board,” the SRC said in a statement.

“Indeed, it is for this reason that the General Secretary of ZIFA remains suspended to this day
notwithstanding his own ‘appeal’ to the same Administrative Court just under a year ago.

For your information, and further research, we refer you to these various authorities to the effect
that your ‘clients’ ‘appeal’ requires further relief in the form of an interdict from the High Court
in order that this ‘appeal’ is deemed to suspend the decision of the SRC pending the administrative court proceeding.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Cervical Cancer Prevention…

New HPV vaccine prequalification aims to rectify gross inequities in access to lifesaving tools
New R&D recommendations for artificial intelligence-based screening technologies
New investments and commitments by the French government’s L’Initiative facility, FIND, University of Miami, WHO

WHO joins advocates around the world to commemorate a landmark Day of Action for Cervical Cancer Elimination and welcome groundbreaking new initiatives to end this devastating disease, which claims the lives of over 300 000 women each year.

As with COVID-19, access to lifesaving tools is constrained, with women and adolescent girls in the poorest countries deprived of clinical screening facilities, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines and treatments which those in affluent places take for granted.

The disparity between deaths from cervical cancer in high-income compared with low-income countries tells a stark story, similar to that we have seen during the pandemic, with 9 in 10 deaths from cervical cancer happening in low and middle-income countries.

Over the last decade, manufacturers have tilted supply toward wealthier locations. In 2020, just 13% of girls aged 9–14 years globally were vaccinated against HPV – the virus that causes almost all cases of cervical cancer.

Around 80 countries – home to nearly two thirds of the global cervical cancer burden – are yet to introduce this lifesaving vaccine.

During this special day, WHO’s Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, together with celebrities, first ladies, cancer survivors and health and community organizations, will help raise awareness and mobilize action – one year after WHO launched its landmark global initiative to eliminate cervical cancer.

WHO is also highlighting important new breakthroughs to prevent and treat the disease, including the prequalification of a fourth vaccine (Cecolin from a third manufacturer, Innovax) for HPV, which is expected to increase and diversify vital vaccination supply.

“Cervical cancer causes immense suffering, but it’s almost completely preventable and, if diagnosed early enough, one of the most successfully treatable cancers,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “We have the tools to make cervical cancer history, but only if we make those tools available to everyone who needs them. Together with our partners in the WHO cervical cancer elimination initiative, that’s what we aim to do.”

The risk of cervical cancer increases six-fold for women living with HIV, but many have not had access to vaccination or screenings.

Tackling cervical cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic
Dr Tedros applauded countries that have adopted innovative ways to increase access to technologies and services that can stop cervical cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the past year, the HPV vaccine was introduced in seven countries – Cameroon, Cape Verde, El Salvador, Mauritania, Qatar, Sao Tome and Principe, and Tuvalu – bringing the total to 115.

Some countries trained healthcare workers with newer, portable devices to thermally ablate precancers. Others expanded the use of self-sampling – endorsed in recently published WHO guidelines – to allow women to collect their own cervical swab. This option can reduce stigma for women, provides access to those living far from health facilities, and helps congested health centres maintain safe services while respecting COVID-19 safety measures. The self-collected sample can be run on the same laboratory platforms that countries have been investing in to support PCR testing for COVID-19.

But setbacks have occurred. Access to screening services has fallen for many women and in a recent survey, 43% of countries reported disruption to cancer treatment. Meanwhile HPV vaccination rates globally fell from 15% in 2019 to 13% in 2020, amidst health service disruptions and school closures.

“There has been important progress towards cervical cancer elimination even over this unprecedented year,” said Dr Princess Nono Simelela, Special Advisor to the Director-General on Strategic Priorities, including Cervical Cancer Elimination. “While we have seen major advances in new technologies and research, the critical next step is to ensure these are designed for and accessible in low- and middle-income countries, and that the health and rights of women and girls everywhere are prioritized in the recovery from COVID-19.”

New technologies, investments and research to aid the fight against cervical cancer
Adding to important milestones achieved over the course of the past year, today WHO is releasing new recommendations to guide research into artificial intelligence (AI)-based screening technologies. This first-of-its-kind guidance supports developers to bring cervical cancer screening into the future, and ensure pre-cancers are detected as early as possible.

The first designated “WHO Collaborating Centre for Cervical Cancer Elimination” was also announced at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Centre at the University of Miami, which will be an important site for research and technical assistance to help countries achieve elimination targets.

The Day of Action will encompass a major global event and press availability, organized from WHO headquarters in Geneva. It will feature performances and remarks from cancer survivors and renowned artists such as Angelique Kidjo, as well as community efforts to promote vaccinations and screenings. 100 world monuments are being illuminated in teal – the colour of cervical cancer elimination – to mark the day, from the Temple of Heaven in Beijing to city skylines across Australia and Canada’s Niagara Falls.

“We have the tools and knowledge to eliminate cervical cancer. What we do with that is up to us,” said H.E. Neo Jane Masisi, First Lady of the Republic of Botswana, who is participating in the day’s events. “We can make choices that condemn women to a painful, avoidable death. Or, we can prioritize their health, so that a future generation of women and their families look back with pride at the choices we made today.”

Several partners also announced important global commitments and investments during the day’s events:

FIND, the global alliance for diagnostics, announced the launch of a new initiative to improve cervical cancer testing and screening using innovative technologies in low- and middle-income countries;
Unitaid reaffirmed its commitment to lay the groundwork for wide-scale adoption of innovative cervical cancer screening and treatment tools – and is on track to reach one million women by 2022, despite COVID-19;
The French government’s L’Initiative facility, implemented by Expertise France, will announce a reinforcement of the support, including operational research, to countries with high comorbidity and coinfection of HIV and HPV-associated cancers.

Mnangagwa Ignores Key Constitutional Processes Before Polls

Tinashe Sambiri|Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust has described the failure by the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa to address the issue of voter registration as unfortunate and disheartening.

Mr Mnangagwa did not say a word about the key process as the nation prepares for by-elections and the 2023 harmonized elections.

See Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust statement:

ZEAT COMMUNICATIONS.

ZEAT Fostering democratic elections.

Mr Mnangagwa

Video: VP Karenyi-Kore Denounces Political Violence

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance vice president Hon Lynette Karenyi-Kore has challenged the politicization of food aid by the Zanu PF regime.

Speaking at a funeral in Bikita, VP Karenyi-Kore denounced intimidation of villagers by the regime.

“Your vote is your secret so do not be intimidated by Zanu PF.

Every citizen has the right to make a choice without being coerced to do so.

During the GNU era we distributed inputs without looking at someone’s political orientation.

Zanu PF is killing innocent citizens- last week we buried our member who was murdered by known individuals,” said VP Karenyi-Kore.

Douglas Munatsi’s Relatives Suspect Foul Play

By A Correspondent- Circumstances surrounding the death of Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency CEO, Douglas Munatsi, on Monday morning in a house fire has left many people suspecting foul play.

They say if he was not immobilised or held against his will, the prominent banker could have escaped the fire that engulfed his luxurious 9th-floor penthouse using various routes that were available to him.

Sources, including friends and relatives, say his death was murder and are anxiously awaiting the results of a post-mortem which was conducted at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare on Thursday.

While a memorial service for Munatsi was scheduled for Saturday at Celebration Centre in Borrowdale, his burial has been postponed pending further investigations into his mysterious death.

Part of the reasons why there has been a delay in burial, other than waiting for his wife and children who live in South Africa and England, was the need for investigations to establish the cause of his death, amid strong suspicions of foul play.

Following an initial investigation, pathologists have recommended a toxicology examination to determine if Munatsi was not drugged or poisoned prior to his death. Munatsi’s friend told a local publication:

He could have also escaped through the main entrance but suppose he was asleep and woke up when the fire was intense, he could have easily gone to the jacuzzi. The easiest route to escape though was through the balcony and we wonder why he did not escape if he was able to alert a neighbour that there was fire.

His body was very intact, suggesting that the fire did not really burn him and the injuries he sustained suggested that the heat affected him, but not the direct fire. If he was fully conscious and functioning properly, he could have surely utilised one of the available options to escape.

According to a police situation report, the fire was concentrated in the bedroom and was so intense that “the main bedroom was extensively damaged by fire to the extent that all windows and doors were broken, all the furniture in the bedroom were extensively burnt that only steel frames for the bed and built-in cupboards were observed.”

Friends and relatives believe an accelerant could have been used, given the intensity of the fire.

They are sceptical that the person who called out for help when a neighbour asked what was going on was
indeed Munatsi.

They suspect he was immobilised, drugged or held against his will.

ED Calls On Electorate To Vote Out Corrupt Councillors

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa has urged the electorate to use the forthcoming elections to vote out corrupt councillors as they are derailing national development, especially in urban areas.

He was speaking in Bulawayo yesterday during the third anniversary of the National Clean-up Campaign in Mzilikazi suburb.

The clean-up campaign was held at Madamara Shopping Centre and it was attended by Cabinet Ministers, Environmental Management Authority officials, security chiefs, residents among other citizens.

It started shortly after 3PM as President Mnangagwa had initially officiated at the Zimbabwe Open University’s 19th graduation ceremony in Harare.

He arrived in Bulawayo shortly after 2:30PM aboard an Air Zimbabwe plane.

After the clean-up campaign the President proceeded to Barbourfields Stadium where he delivered his address.

President Mnangagwa said it was worrying that members of the public continue to pay rates while service delivery is declining.

He said the electorate should, in the coming elections, punish elected council officials who abuse local authority resources.

The country is set to hold by-elections next year and harmonized polls in 2023.

“I further urge local authorities to stop the abuse of resources of rate-payers, which has resulted in failure to collect and manage waste, among other acts and omissions.

Sadly, this has become a reflection of the quality of councillors and management entrusted with the affairs of our local authorities, especially those in the urban areas.

The forthcoming elections present an opportunity for them to be voted out of office,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said his Government remains committed to implementing people-centred policies.

“As a caring Government, my administration will continue to provide resources to accelerate the devolution and decentralisation agenda to ensure citizens enjoy the quality service that they deserve,” said President Mnangagwa.

He commended society for embracing the National Clean-up Campaign.

“This has seen community and sector-based waste management taking centre stage and changes in the narratives of the waste management frameworks in the country.

It is also pleasing that some sectors have embraced the Integrated Waste Management System, targeting waste reduction through recycling, composting and proper disposal.

The promotion of recycling as a major waste management strategy, in line with National Development Strategy 1 (NDS-1), has a potential to create green jobs for our citizens,” he said.

“Continued growth of recycling activities across the country is pleasing and presents opportunities for drastically reducing most of the waste management challenges the country has been facing.

This ensures a clean, safe and healthy environment for present and future generations.”

The President said there is a need for communities to increase their efforts to make the National Clean-up Campaign sustainable.

Going forward, he added, local authorities should take a leading role in the implementation of the campaign.

“I therefore, challenge all local authorities to now be the cornerstone of this programme by effectively carrying out their mandate as champions of waste management in the country.

This will undoubtedly require the setting up of sustainable waste management frameworks, including the development of local environmental action plans,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President said as the country heads into a new year, it should heighten waste management efforts including the development and introduction of new innovations that will contribute towards achieving Vision 2030.

He said the programme requires participation of all societal groups including politicians, traditional and communal leadership, religious leaders, academia, captains of industry and commerce and ordinary citizens.

The National Clean-up Campaign is conducted on every first Friday of a new month.

President Mnangagwa said despite the outbreak of Covid-19 it was encouraging to see that the programme is still receiving a lot of support from various stakeholders.-statemedia

Women Constitute Majority Of ZOU Graduates

By A Correspondent- More than half the 1 367 graduates from Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) who were capped by President Mnangagwa yesterday are women, showing their determination to make their mark and take up Government’s empowerment initiatives.

Of the 1 367 graduates, 737, or 54 percent, were women with just 630 men.

More women are continuing to break the traditionally held mentality of masculine dominance and Zimbabwe is now starting to follow international trends with more women graduating from university than men.

The graduation ceremony, which was held both physically and virtually as part of measures to contain Covid-19, saw four persons living with disabilities among the graduates.

President Mnangagwa, who is the Chancellor of all State universities, capped the graduates at a colourful ceremony held in Harare.

Addressing guests, ZOU Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Gundani, said female students had continued to dominate the ceremony this year just as they did last year.

He said the President noted when he wrote in the Guest Book last year that women had dominated despite, in many cases, having to bear a higher load of family responsibilities.

“It is most fulfilling to notice that you affirm the empowerment of women through open learning at ZOU. Happily, female students have done it, again in this graduation,” said Prof Gundani, who constantly quoted renowned scholars.

Prof Gundani called for a review of tax on educational equipment, especially the appliances needed for on-line studying, given that Zimbabwe is adopting online learning as part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Despite progressive policies in the digital era where people live, learn and teach, access to digital equipment had been seen as a bottleneck because of the costs and data costs were also a major impediment.

“Many dedicated students are being left out because of prohibitive costs of learning devices such as computers, laptops, iPads, and smartphones that can download volumes and volumes of learning materials. This is compounded by the fact that data has become too expensive for the average student. These factors limit the quality of learning and teaching and indeed of the graduate we produce.

Many prospective students, and others who are already enrolled for study, are being left behind thanks to digitalisation. In my view, a tax exemption policy on educational gadgets is long overdue. So is the zero-rating of educational websites,” said Prof Gundani.

He said there was need for an all-stakeholder indaba on digital access.

“(A meeting involving) Government, business and the academy is long overdue to address the question of access to e and online learning and the attendant cost of educational technologies and gadgets. Digital access is a nationwide problem that transcends ZOU and requires a triple helix approach to solve it, said Prof Gundani.

As part of serving the community, ZOU had partnered Angel of Hope Foundation led by the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, to have the Epworth Short Learning Programme geared towards mitigating social and gender inequalities, thus meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“In collaboration with the Angel of Hope, we managed to touch the hearts and minds of disadvantaged women and mothers in Epworth, he said.

The flagship pilot project saw over 800 women completing short courses in: crop and animal science; counselling; sign language and disability awareness; arts, culture and heritage; nurse aid training; early childhood development; and entrepreneurship and business management.

“The partnership has proved to be an unprecedented flagship community service and outreach programme whose short courses have proved to not only be ground-breaking, but a game-changer in terms of the role of the university in social transformation,” he said.

During the graduation, two outstanding graduates, Memory Gonyora and Bravinos Musaniwa, each received US$1 000 from the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award.

The event was attended by Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira, Vice Chancellors from other State universities and academics, among others.-statemedia

Canadian Woman Stuck In Zim

By A Correspondent- Zoe Mukura’s family has no idea when she will be allowed to return to Canada.

In September, Mukura travelled to Zimbabwe from her home in Saskatoon to take care of her ailing mother.

When her mother died, Mukura worked on settling her estate while her brother, Dalisizwe Dewa, went back home to his cardiology practice.

Since Mukura has been in Zimbabwe, travel restrictions have been getting increasingly tighter.

On Tuesday, due to the presence of the omicron variant of concern, Canada has banned entry to anyone who had been in one of 10 different African countries, including Zimbabwe, in the last 14 days.

This means Mukura is effectively trapped overseas, with no date for when she will be able to return home to her husband and two children.

“She is very stressed,” Dewa told CBC Radio’s Saskatoon Morning.

“But then she is aware that there is nothing much she can do, so she’s just waiting to see what happens, essentially.”

This week, Canada joined other governments, including the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union, that have instituted travel bans on some African countries. The bans were put in place to slow the spread of the omicron variant of concern, which was first identified in South Africa.

Several international airlines have stopped flying into Zimbabwe for the time being.

To complicate the matter even further, Mukura only has one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. That means that even without a travel ban, she would have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in an approved facility and be tested.

“Our hope and prayer is that the new variant can be more manageable than initially thought,” said Zoe’s husband, Nyasha Mukura.

“We hope that it’s something that can put the decision makers at ease and maybe they can relax restrictions.”

Nyasha said it is possible for his wife to get a vaccine in Zimbabwe, a move that would hopefully make returning home easier. Right now, Zoe is staying at her mother’s house, waiting to see when she can return home.

Dewa said his sister’s best hope of returning to Canada is to travel to Kenya and wait 14 days before boarding a plane. However, he said even doing something like that is not a sure bet.

He worries that the travel ban may be expanded further. On Tuesday, Zimbabwe brought in a 10-day quarantine period for anyone coming into the country, including returning residents.

Dewa is concerned that, as the omicron variant is found in more and more countries around the world, African countries are being unfairly singled out.

While he believes that travel bans can be effective at slowing down the spread of variants, he said a comprehensive travel ban on all travellers, like the one recently brought in by Israel, would make more sense than a targeted ban on some African countries.

“I think this was probably more like a political decision without letting the science speak,” he said.

“If it turns out the virus is all over the world now, what is the impact and what is the effect of these decisions?”

The Government of Canada said it will continue to assess case data and would adjust border measures as required. It’s not known when the travel ban will be lifted.

Scott Sakupwanya Booted Out

By A Correspondent- Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya, a dealer considered close to the first family, has been kicked out of a gold mining venture in Penhalonga, Manicaland province.

Sakupwanya’s Better Brands company had been allocated 132 gold claims at Redwing Ming Company (RMC) under hazy circumstances.

Rival miners, the surrounding community and local advocacy groups were accusing Sakupwanya of having become the law unto himself by terrorising competitors and defying the police for causing extensive environmental damage at Redwing.

They reported that the gold miner claimed that the mining concessions he was running in Penhalonga belonged to President Mnangagwa.

Sakupwanya is a prominent member of the Affirmative Action Group, which is considered an elitist club of ruling ZANU PF sympathisers disguised as beneficiaries of black empowerment.

In early October, Information for Development Trust (IDT), working in collaboration with The Standard newspaper, reached out to Charamba over Sakupwanya’s alleged abuse of the president’s name and he threatened that namedroppers would “rot in jail”.

There has been a serious level of name-dropping by people who are trying to ride rough-shod over the law in the name of the leadership. We take a very dim view of such personalities and in the event that we catch up with them, those guys will rot in jail.

Tell that Sakupwanya that, really, he must look at his articles of association and see if the president is a shareholder (in Betterbrands).

A follow-up by Grazers News, the IDT online publication, established that the caretaker management at Redwing had resolved to stop Better Brands from operating at the goldfields.

In a letter dated 29 November 2021 that was addressed to Better Brands, Knowledge Hofisi, the Redwing interim corporate rescue manager, said he had replaced Sakupwanya’s company.

Duatlet Investments is now set to partner with Redwing, a subsidiary of Metallon Corporation that is domiciled in the UK. Part of the letter reads:

Accordingly, any and all mining activities that are being carried out by Better Brands Mining Company have been suspended and suppressed by the new arrangement and should therefore stop by end of business today. In other words they should immediately vacate RMC premises.

The local community also accused Sakupwanya of fuelling criminal cases in the area after he hired artisanal miners from Kwekwe to boost his operations.

The artisanal miners, commonly known as Mashurugwi, allegedly beat up rivals and went on a stealing spree in the area.

Previous investigations showed that Better Brands’ operations were in violation of Statutory Instrument (SI) 258 of 2018 Environmental Management (Control of Alluvial Mining) (Amendment) Regulations, which outlaws setting up washing plants, ore stockpiles, slime dams or mining ponds within 500 meters from river banks.

Mutare Woman Sues Chinese Firm For Burying Her Husband Alive

By A Correspondent- A Mutare woman is together with her minor child are suing a Chinese miner for burying her husband during a mine site rehabilitation last year.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who are representing the widow, Nester Munyongani and her son say the duo wants ZWL$2 from Xu Zhong Jin Investments.

Munyongani argues that the Chinese miner was told the deceased Sure Mutamba, an artisanal miner, was underground but Xu Zhong Jin Investments continued with the rehabilitation burying Mutamba in the process.

Below is the ZLHR’s update on the case:At Mutasa Magistrates Court, Xu Zhong Jin Investments, a Chinese mining company is standing trial after being sued for damages by the widow & child of Sure Mutamba, an artisanal miner, who was buried alive in November 2020 as the Chinese miner was rehabilitating a mining site at Premier Estate in Old Mutare in Manicaland province.

The widow, Nester Munyongani & her 4-year-old minor child, who are represented by @ZLHRLawyers are suing Xu Zhong Jin Investments for ZWL2 million for negligently causing the death of Mutamba & for loss of support emanating from his death.

Mutamba’s body was only exhumed 3 days after he died following protests by community members over the inhumane operations of the Chinese miner.

In summons filed in court, lawyers stated that the Chinese miner had been advised that Mutamba was underground before its employees even closed the deep pit but they proceeded and closed the pit. Our intervention in this matter is meant to protect the rights of communities in conflict with big mining corporations.

Gvt Starts Administering Covid-19 Booster Shots

By A Correspondent- The government has announced that it had started administering COVID-19 booster shots for frontline workers and citizens with chronic diseases.

A booster shot occurs when a vaccinated individual is further jabbed to increase their immunity.

The directive follows a new spike in Covid-19 infections in the country, which come at a time when the Omicron variant first detected in Botswana and South Africa has been confirmed in Zimbabwe.

The elderly are part of the prioritised groups to get the third dose. Health ministry acting secretary Robert Mudyiradima said Friday:

Booster dose for frontline workers, those with chronic diseases and the elderly to commence with immediate effect.

In an address at Barbourfields Stadium, Bulawayo on Friday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the masses should get vaccinated. He said:

We do not want to constrain our people. But as President I must choose between allowing you to do what you want at the time you want, and you die, or to refuse to let you to do things as you want, but as I direct you, so that you survive.

I choose that you must behave in a manner that creates survival rather than the manner or behaviour that results in death.

He said Zimbabwe was receiving many more doses of vaccines soon which are more than the country’s population adding, “even if people get double vaccination, we still have a surplus.”

He urged, “those who think they want a booster” to go and get the third jab.

Zimbabwe Medical Association president Dr Francis Chiwora said vaccines fade away over time hence booster shots are necessary.-statemedia

Mnangagwa Business Partner Gets 15 Government Tenders In Six (6) Months

By A Correspondent- Fossil Group owner and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s close associate, Obey Chimuka, has reportedly been granted 15 transport tenders by the government since June of this year.

These tenders are worth more than US$45 Million, which was paid to him in advance.

Pythons Headache At Esigodhini Agricultural College

By A Correspondent- Students and lecturers at Esigodini Agricultural College are now living in fear after a number of pythons were found on the college premises.

It is understood that the college which is about 40 kilometres away from Bulawayo has recorded several python sightings around their premises.

A few months ago one python was found in the pottery by one of the students who was carrying out their broiler project.

The python had swallowed nine chicks and hid under the grass. Then another python was found in the fields hunting for birds.

The vice-principal for Esigodini Agricultural College, Farai Gomo said there were many pythons because there was once a man who used to keep different types of snakes around the area.

Said Gomo:

When he left, he freed all the snakes and this is why some of the pythons have dominated the college.

I once found a black mamba in my compound and another python was found along the fence at the principal’s house.

He advised residents and everyone in general not to walk during the night especially if they know that their environment is dominated by snakes.

Gomo advised people not to walk at night especially in places where pythons and different types of snakes are dominant.

He also said they should not provoke pythons because they are not violent snakes.

Meanwhile, officials said officers from the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management had collected some of the pythons at the college.

Prophet Demands US$Tithes From Congregants

By A Correspondent- Civil servants are complaining after some church leaders reportedly ordered them to double their tithes in United States dollars.

Reports claim that controversial preacher Isaac Makomichi has instructed civil servants to double their tithes because they have received their bonuses.

“It’s very difficult for us because our pastors are now demanding tithes in forex, my friend also told me that his pastor wrote a letter to church members who work in government demanding tithes in forex,” said one Togarepi who claims to be a teacher.

Several sources claim Makomichi wrote the said letters to his congregants.

Makomichi is known of distributing love charms to slayqueens and “making people rich” through his controversial herb, though some Christians describe him as a fake prophet who uses secret powers to “move mountains.”

“It’s a lie, he never said that, contact him on +263777469342 , I can’t answer such lies,”fumed Tashiel, one of Makomichi’s personal assistants.

Prof Jonathan Moyo Blasts Hypocrite ED

By A Correspondent- Former government Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo, has said the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is a typical hypocrite.

Professor Moyo argues Mr Mnangagwa has dismally failed to transform government systems and operations after promising to do so after the coup.

Mnangagwa took over power from his long time boss Robert Mugabe following a military coup in November 2017.

Professor Moyo argued:

” It’s asinine to equate @edmnangagwa clansmen in cabinet, PB, etc with Mugabe’s appointees like Chidhakwa, @PatrickZhuwao and Bona who were appointed to the level of their competence. ED’s appointees like Manikai and Herbert Nkala have risen to the level of their incompetence!

Those who say I shouldn’t complain about @edmnangagwa ‘s appointments, because they’re similar to Mugabe’s appointments which I didn’t complain about, are mad.

Mnangagwa accused Mugabe of favouring Zezurus, his relatives & cronies; so he ousted him in a coup promising better!

But @edmnangagwa ‘s promise to do better than or different from Mugabe is absent. Get it right: it’s not me who complained against Mugabe or who ousted him in a coup; it’s Mnangagwa. I’m complaining against Mnangagwa because he has not kept his coup promise. HE IS A HYPOCRITE!”

VP Tendai Biti Calls On ZRP To Act Professionally And Arrest Zanu PF Hooligans Who Killed Nyasha Zhambe

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has challenged the ZRP to act in a professional manner.

Hon Biti urged police to arrest known Zanu PF hooligans who abducted and tortured Nyasha Zhambe to death.

According to Team Pachedu, one Chief Inspector Cames Myambo is refusing to arrest the ZANU-PF thugs who abducted, tortured and killed Nyasha Zhambe.

Writing on Twitter, Hon Biti denounced the brutal murder of Zhambe by Zanu PF agents.

“Nyasha Zhambe Mawere was brutally murdered by the regime’s thugs on 27 Nov.Regime did not arrest perpetrators but chose to arrest his brother. Impunity & selective application of the law have sunk to a new low under Emmerson Mnangagwa s regime .We demand justice for Nyasha .

Section 208 of Constitution makes it clear that neither Security Services nor any of their members may a)act in a partisan manner b)further interests of any political party or cause c) prejudice lawful interest of any party c)violate fundamental rights or freedoms of any person,” Hon Biti said.

He also described the Zanu PF regime as clueless and vacuous.

“Yet another hopeless , loony decision made by a desperate vacuous regime. We have always argued that decisions on highly technical matters must be left to science and science alone ,not sorcery or witchcraft.Closing borders is no solution but vaccines & more vaccines .#ZanuPFMustGo

We have always maintained that somewhere in Emmerson s office is a government department created to make citizens suffer. This is clearly the busiest unit of this regime.Fact is we deserve better , we can do better .

ZIMBABWE IS CLOSED: Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has just made an extraordinary decision that all visitors and returning residents will undergo – at own cost – a mandatory PCR test and quarantine at designated facilities for WHO recommended days (14 currently). Curfew 9PM to 6AM.”

ED Sets Long Awaited By-election Dates

Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday announced that the long-awaited by-elections to fill 133 vacant local government and parliamentary seats would be held in March next year.

Mnangagwa made the announcement during an extraordinary session of the ZANU-PF Politburo, where he bemoaned factionalism and intraparty fighting tearing the ruling party apart.

Last month, Mnangagwa only said by-elections to fill 28 National Assembly and 105 local authority vacancies across the country will be held in the first quarter of 2022 but did not mention the exact month. Addressing the Politburo on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said:

As we prepare for the forthcoming by-elections next year in March, and the 2023 harmonised elections, let us focus on mobilising our membership to register as voters.

Stakeholders have been pushing the government to announce the election dates amid reports that opposition MDC-T had written to the president proposing that by-elections and 2023 elections be postponed until after electoral reforms have been implemented.

Some viewed the proposal by the opposition party as fear to lose the elections.

Most of the seats became vacant after MDC-T recalled MDC Alliance legislators and councillors following the 2020 Supreme Court ruling on the MDC leadership crisis. The court ruled that Chamisa’s ascendancy to power was in violation of the party’s constitution therefore it was null and void.

While Mnangagwa is convinced that ZANU PF will prevail against the opposition in the 2022 by-elections, he also expressed concern over factionalism in the ruling party.

There have been reports of party members physically attacking each other as they campaigned to land posts in the district and provincial structures.

Tagwirei, Mnangagwa Close Associate Wins Another Lucrative Government Tender

By A Correspondent- OWNED by an ally of Zimbabwean tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a target of United States sanctions, the Fossil Group has won more than 15 public works contracts since June, more than many of its rivals.

A Zimbabwean government list released on November 26 revealed the names of companies that have received public works contracts since June.

Among the companies that have won the most contracts is Fossil Contracting, the construction branch of the Fossil Group, owned by businessman Obey Chimuka.

Chimuka is a close associate of tycoon Tagwirei, an adviser to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chimuka is a long-time business partner of Tagwirei’s mining investments, having served on the board of the mining holding company Landela Investments.

Mnangagwa Kicks Ally Out Of Gold Mining Venture Over Name Dropping

Mnangagwa Politicises Bulawayo Water

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has told Bulawayo residents that the central government has solutions to the city’s perennial water challenges.

He made the remarks while officiating at the 3rd anniversary of the national clean-up campaign in Zimbabwe’s second-largest city.

Said the president:
I want to assure you as people of Bulawayo that my government has a solution to your water challenges and we have enough resources to finance the water project and as I speak, we are in the process of subcontracting local companies to start trenching the pipeline from the Gwayi-Shangani Lake to Bulawayo to close that chapter of waters and look at other developmental projects.
He also challenged local authorities to provide standard services to their communities, reiterating that the Second Republic will continue to provide resources under the devolution programme. Mnangagwa added:
Development is no longer decided from Harare but the new dispensation through devolution funds now allows communities to pinpoint priority areas for development and directs local authorities on what projects to undertake. In the 2022 budget, at least 4.5 billion dollars is available to local authorities.

He further urged citizens to double their efforts in maintaining a clean environment as Zimbabwe aims to become the cleanest country in Africa.
The President was part of the clean-up programme at Madamara Business Centre.
Local authorities across the country have for decades been failing to provide required public goods and services citing a lack of resources.
Bulawayo is currently battling to contain a diarrhoea outbreak recorded a few days ago. It is attributed to contaminated water the local authority is pumping to residents.
Bulawayo has been rationing water for months now, an arrangement that has seen suburbs going for days without water.

Hail Storm Ravages Gokwe Families

By A Correspondent- Several families in Gokwe North were left homeless after a hailstorm hit the area over the weekend.

The storm also caused severe damage at Gwebo Primary School, where it blew off roofs from an ECD, computer and another classroom block.

A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) substation and some shops at Gwebo Centre also had their roofs blown away by strong winds which were accompanied by heavy rains.
Gokwe North District Civil Protection Unit chairperson who is also the District Development Co-ordinator, Mr Martin Musakanda confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that Ward 10 in Gwebo experienced heavy winds which caused severe damages to Gwebo Primary School, business centre and nearby villages.
Strong and violent winds and a stormy rainfall blew off roofs at the school, shopping centre and at several households in nearby villages,” said Mr Musakanda.
He said some of the affected had sought refuge at homes of neighbours and friends while others were being forced to continue living in whatever remained at their homes.
Although no casualties or injuries were recorded, people were left homeless and property worth thousands of dollars was destroyed.

“Property was damaged and houses were destroyed.
The main challenge we are facing now is to accommodate the affected families.
The economic environment compounded by the already struggling community implies that it is an insurmountable task to repair the roofs and structures,” he said.
Mr Musakanda said they have since reactivated their taskforce which was now mobilising food and resources for the affected families.
“We are now looking for financial assistance for the reconstruction work at the school and in the community. We are also looking for a vehicle for use to monitor the situation and fuel for use.
Food assistance can also help under such circumstances to assist those that were left homeless,” he said.

Female Rapists Resurface, Attack Mutare Man At Gun Point

By A Correspondent- A 27 years old Mutare man is battling for life after he was allegedly kidnapped by two gun-toting women and a male accomplice who drugged and administered an overdose of a sex-enhancing substance on him before sexually abusing him.

The incident, which happened on Monday at Mukwena Shopping Centre in Dangamvura, brings to the fore the many facets of sexual abuse at a time when the world was commemorating 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

Mutare District Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson, Detective Sergeant Coleen Mbato confirmed the incident.
He said detectives were on the ground conducting investigations.
“The complainant left home at night to pick up his wife who was at her aunt’s place in the same suburb. The complainant went to Mukwena Shopping Centre Bus Stop where he boarded a white Mazda Verisa which had three occupants; two women sitting in front and a male who was at the back seat,” he said.
Upon reaching Area 16 turnoff, the driver diverted into a road that goes to Destiny area.
“The complainant asked where they were taking him, and the driver told him that she wanted to drop off one of her colleagues. After driving for a short distance, the driver stopped and parked the vehicle at a secluded place along the gravel road towards Dora Business Centre.
“The complainant sensed danger and tried to bolt out of the vehicle, but the man who was sitting next to him at the back grabbed him by the waist,” said Detective Sergeant Mbato.
He said the two scuffled in the motor vehicle until one of the women drew out a pistol from her handbag and threatened to shoot the complainant.
“She ordered him to calm down before injecting him with an unknown substance on the right thigh. He became unconscious and does not remember what happened thereafter.
“It is not clear how the complainant got back to Mukwena Business Centre, but he later gained consciousness and narrated his story to a security guard. He pleaded with the guard to call his relative to rush to the shopping centre. His relative came and rushed him to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital,” said Detective Sergeant Mbato.
Medical examinations revealed that he had been sexually abused. Detectives handling the case revealed that perpetrators of cases of this nature often harvest semen from their victims or draw blood for ritual purposes.

Chinese Miner Sued For Damages After Burying Mutasa Man Alive

By A Correspondent| At Mutasa Magistrates Court, Xu Zhong Jin Investments, a Chinese mining company is standing trial after being sued for damages by the widow and child of Sure Mutamba, an artisanal miner, who was buried alive in November 2020 as the Chinese miner was rehabilitating a mining site at Premier Estate in Old Mutare in Manicaland province.

The widow, Nester Munyongani and her 4 year-old minor child, who are represented by lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) are suing Xu Zhong Jin Investments for ZWL2 million for negligently causing the death of Mutamba and for loss of support emanating from his death.

The lawyers said their intervention in this matter is meant to protect the rights of communities in conflict with big mining corporations.

South Africa Threatened With Protests Over Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination

The Student Union of South Africa (SAUS) is expecting students and university management to be at “loggerheads” at the start of the next academic year because of mandatory vaccination policies, which could lead to violent protests, SAUS president Yandisa Ndzoyiya told a joint meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the Portfolio Committee on Police on Friday.

“We’ve been saying to USAF [Universities South Africa] there must be a way to engage students on the vaccine. Of course, as the union, we want to encourage students to take the vaccine because when they save their own lives, they save other people’s lives,” he said.

“But how universities are doing it, already a number of institutions, through their councils, through their senate meetings, they have resolved on mandatory vaccines. And students, when they leave those meetings, they feel excluded because they are not thoroughly engaged. And that is going to lead to some violent protest because we are going to have a situation where students are protesting, and university management wants to proceed with registration because they don’t want to lose academic time.”

SAUS blamed student protests on a breakdown of engagement between students and university management and said they turned violent when the police got involved.

“As the union, we strongly believe that management sometimes runs away from engagements through using security services to just disengage with students. As a result, that leads to violent protests,” Ndzoyiya said.

“There is no student or student leader who enjoys being on the street. I think you know this, chair.”

SB Moyo Memorial To Be Held In Mberengwa Today

By A Correspondent| The late foreign affairs minister and November 2017 coup announcer Sibusiso Moyo commonly referred to as SB Moyo’s Memorial service will be held in Mberengwa today and President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be in attendance, according to information secretary Nick Mangwana.

SB Moyo succumbed to COVID-19 early this year and was buried at the heroes acre.

“Stanbic Bank and its parent company’s purpose is to drive Africa’s growth. This means providing solutions that facilitate trade despite the restrictive pandemic environment, and to do so at scale to ensure our initiatives have a sustainable and significant impact. Family Of Chamisa Supporter Demand Report Of Fatal Assault Probe

THE family of a Masvingo man who died from injuries sustained after he was assaulted by suspected ZANU PF party supporters has given Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) a seven-day ultimatum to furnish it with an account detailing the outcome of a probe on a report of assault perpetrated against the deceased Nyasha Zhambe.

In a letter written to Inspector Myambo, the Officer In Charge at Gutu Police Station in Masvingo province, Martin Mureri of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who is representing Zhambe’s family, asked ZRP to share an update with the family on the nature and stage of investigations carried out failure of which he will take further action.

The 48 year-old Zhambe, who passed on in November due to injuries which he sustained from the physical attack, had filed an assault report with ZRP against the perpetrators on 14 October 2021. However, to date no arrest has been effected.

Mureri said the late Zhambe provided the names of people who assaulted him between Farm Grida and Mukute Investments to Sergeant Nyoni, who in his request for medical report clearly pointed out that the deceased was assaulted with fists and logs on the face several times and on his right knee.

In response to Mureri’s letter, Inspector Myambo advised the human rights lawyer that Zhambe’s matter was referred to the Law and Order Division at Masvingo Central Police Station on 16 October 2021 for “further investigation”.

By Kadoma Correspondent | Residents of Kadoma are not happy with the city’s decision to pull down Ba Joes’ shed in Munhumutapa at Leisure Turn Off which they said was providing much needed shelter during bad weather; and he is also the one who was keeping the place clean.

Ba Joe’s she’d pulled down

Concerned residents accused the City of Kadoma Council of corruption and nepotism.

Mr Power Tembo of Ward 13 said, “No serious investors would want to invest in Kadoma because of the mushrooming of tuckshops at every corner “.

VP Chiwenga Left Naked Masvingo

Dear Editor

Vice President and Second Secretary of Zanu PF General Rtd Chiwenga was literally left without clothes today in Masvingo, after a faction linked to the incumbent Resident Minister, Ezra Chadzamira booed the VP at a clean up programme this morning. Ironically when the VIPs arrived, the hired ladies from Mashava (Chadzamira’s constituency) started cheering Chadzamira and singing his praise songs, vuvuzelas where also being blown by a group of youths shouting “Chitova” in reference to Chadzamira’s totem. Mobilization and incitement to boo the VP was done prior to the event through a whatsapp message written by the provincial Youth League PC Sengerai Manyanga and circulated in various whatsapp groups. This is the first time after Operation Restore Legacy that a VP is undressed and booed by Zanu PF Structures.

Mnangagwa Tells Urbaners To Kick Out MDC Alliance Councillors

Emerson Mnangagwa has urged the electorate to use the forthcoming elections to vote out corrupt councillors as they are derailing national development, especially in urban areas.

Emmerson-Mnangagwa

Mnangagwa said it was worrying that members of the public continue to pay rates while service delivery is declining.

“As a caring Government, my administration will continue to provide resources to accelerate the devolution and decentralisation agenda to ensure citizens enjoy the quality service that they deserve,” said Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa said there is a need for communities to increase their efforts to make the National Clean-up Campaign sustainable.

Going forward, he added, local authorities should take a leading role in the implementation of the campaign.

“I therefore, challenge all local authorities to now be the cornerstone of this programme by effectively carrying out their mandate as champions of waste management in the country.

This will undoubtedly require the setting up of sustainable waste management frameworks, including the development of local environmental action plans,” said Mnangagwa.

The President said as the country heads into a new year, it should heighten waste management efforts including the development and introduction of new innovations that will contribute towards achieving Vision 2030.-Chronicle
