AFCON Tournament: Jordan Zemura Available For Duty

Jordan Zemura has started training and will be available for selection for the Warriors’ Afcon squad.

The defender picked an ankle injury last month and missed the national team’s final two games in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Initial report had suggested the player could return to the field earlier on but after a scan, it was revealed that he is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines, casting doubt on his availability at the Afcon finals.

Delivering an injury update on Zemura and another Bournemouth player Lloyd Kelly, coach Scott Parker said: “They are back on the training field, they are doing work.

“They’re progressing really well, Junior Stanislas as well.

“We need them back. That’s just it. We’re stretched at the moment and we’re going through a little bit of a windy point.

“I’m immensely proud because we’re picking up points and we’re doing very well, but we need them back.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

World Determined To End AIDS By 2030

With millions of lives on the line, UNAIDS and WHO World AIDS Day event saw global partners, including Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, urgently call for expanded access to health treatments and technologies and for human rights to be upheld.

On the occasion of World AIDS Day 2021, UNAIDS, the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners came together at a special event in Geneva, Switzerland, to highlight the urgent need to end the economic, social, cultural and legal inequalities that drive the AIDS pandemic and other pandemics around the world.

“We are issuing an urgent warning. Only by moving fast to end the inequalities that drive the AIDS pandemic can we overcome it,” said Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS. “World leaders must work together urgently to tackle the challenges head-on. I urge you: be courageous in matching words with deeds. It is outrageous that every minute that passes, we lose a precious life to AIDS. We don’t have time to waste.”

The world is off track from delivering on the shared commitment to end AIDS by 2030. In 2020 there were 37.7 million people living with HIV, 1.5 million new HIV infections and 680 000 AIDS-related deaths. Around 65% of HIV infections globally were among key populations, including sex workers and their clients, gay men and other men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs and transgender people, and their sexual partners.

“Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, many of the populations most at risk were not being reached with HIV testing, prevention and care services,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “The pandemic has made things worse, with the disruption of essential health services, and the increased vulnerability of people with HIV to COVID-19. Like COVID-19, we have all the tools to end the AIDS epidemic, if we use them well. This World AIDS Day, we renew our call on all countries to use every tool in the toolbox to narrow inequalities, prevent HIV infections, save lives and end the AIDS epidemic.”

If the world does not tackle discrimination and inequalities, UNAIDS and WHO warn that the next decade could see 7.7 million AIDS-related deaths.

A powerful video narrated by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and Ms Byanyima was screened at the event demonstrating the disturbing parallels between access to HIV treatment and access to COVID-19 vaccines. Between 1997 and 2006, it is estimated that 12 million people died of AIDS-related illnesses in low- and middle-income countries as the price of medicines rendered them out of reach for many of the countries most affected by HIV. Today, 10 million people around the world still do not have access to the life-saving HIV medicines. The Duke of Sussex urged the world to learn from the history of AIDS and overcome the inequitable access to COVID-19 vaccines and to ensure that new HIV medicines and technologies are available to all.

A letter from the Duke of Sussex to WHO and UNAIDS was read out, in which he commemorated the 40 years of AIDS and expressed his gratitude for the work accomplished to date. In the letter he stressed the need for COVID-19 vaccine equity, drawing from the lessons learned from HIV.

Speakers highlighted the impact of HIV on young people. “Young people continue to be stigmatized, especially those in key populations, and inequalities continue to compromise the quality of our lives,” said Joyce Ouma, from the Global Network of Young People Living with HIV.

“Young people are the future of nations and the cornerstone of the global AIDS response,” said Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, Thailand. “Eradicating all kinds of stigma must be our full global commitment with immediate action.”

During the event, the participants commemorated the lives of the 36 million people who have died from AIDS since the start of the pandemic and highlighted the urgent need to do more for the people most affected by HIV.

The Ambassador of Namibia, Julia Imene-Chanduru, representing the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board Chair, said, “AIDS remains an emergency that we must not forget in our response to COVID-19.”

Speakers urged all countries, partners and civil society to be bold in taking forward the commitment made in the Political Declaration on AIDS adopted at the 2021 United Nations High-Level Meeting on AIDS and in the Global AIDS Strategy 2021–2026: End Inequalities, End AIDS, both having ending inequalities at their core.

“We can see the importance of UNAIDS’ strategy, with an emphasis on ending inequalities,” said Stephanie Seydoux, French Ambassador for Global Health. “This is what allows us to make progress in the fight against this pandemic, and to ensure health for everyone.”

“We know how to beat AIDS and we know how to beat pandemics,” added Ms Byanyima. “The policies to address the inequalities standing in the way of progress can be implemented, but they require leaders to step up and be bold.

MDC ALLIANCE ASSEMBLY OF WOMEN

Speech by MDC Alliance Assembly of Women Chairperson Muchirairwa Mugidho on the commemoration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

Good evening to all the respected delegates. It is a great privilege and honour to be invited to this great platform on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV).

The MDC Alliance, particularly the Assembly of Women on the 25th of November 2021 joined the rest of the World in commemorating 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence under the global theme Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now.

This global civil society initiative was birthed in 1991 by the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from 25 November to 10 December.
As MDC Alliance Assembly of Women, we have also localized this event by creating our own theme to suit our local environment.
Our theme is: “Gender Based Violence: A barrier to gender equality.”
Violence against any human being is a criminal behaviour that violates both domestic and international human rights.

Worse when it’s against a Woman.
As we commemorate this 16-day period, we focus on the barrier to gender equality that has been created by GBV.

We have noted with concern the small number of females who are willing to take up leadership positions mostly in the political field as a result of violence associated with belonging to a particular political party, age group and sex.

These abusive actions undermine the ability of women and girls to fulfil their goals, objectives and more importantly suppress human fundamental rights as provided for in the national constitution.
This has resulted in under-representation of women decision makers.

Women in local politics continue to experience physical, sexual and psychological violence. And that have prevented and limited women from fully realizing their potential through exercising fundamental rights.

We have all witnessed how our three girls, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova have been unfairly treated for merely demanding a better society. Their rights were abused and are still being abused for the reason of being ambitious young women.

Gender based violence at its worst is realized when women lose their husbands. In some cases, surviving spouses are left with nothing and sometimes homeless as a result of property grab by in laws.

Our national constitution provides for the full participation of women in all spheres of Zimbabwean society on the basis of equality with men.

Section 17.1(a) which postulates that: “the state must promote the full participation of women in all spheres of Zimbabwean society on the basis of equality with men.”

Chapter 4.4.3 of the MDC Constitution speaks against all forms of violence and does not believe in the use of violence as a way or means of attaining any political, social, economic or religious objective. Failure to adhere to the above will attract punitive action.

As MDC Alliance Assembly of Women, we would want to commend various organizations that are working so hard to promote women rights.

Organizations that are working hard to eliminate all forms of discrimination and gender-based violence against women include Msasa Project, Women Coalition of Zimbabwe, UN Women and the Zimbabwe Gender Commission to name a few. A number of conferences have also been held in connection with the above, the likes of CEDAW, The Beijing Conference and many more. We fully appreciate all the efforts being made.

As Assembly of Women, cognizant of our fundamental rights as provided for in the national and party constitutions, we are mobilizing our peers to register to vote even under the current COVID-19 environment.

We are aware of the effects of this pandemic but also fully aware of the effects of not voting which are even deadlier.
We believe in women power. Women, given an opportunity can change the society for better and we believe our contribution towards 6 million votes for our 2023 Presidential candidate, Advocate Nelson Chamisa is key.

We salute all women who have shown resistance under the current harsh economic, social and political conditions coupled with gender-based violence in their communities. None have given up their families. They continue and hang on and by the same token, the Assembly urges all members to remain resolute, steadfast and support the People’s President Adv Nelson Chamisa.

A new Zimbabwe is definitely coming as we continue to fight for a better society under a people centered government led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
We have also joined the people driven campaign, #NgaapindeHakeMukomana.
In conclusion I say:

OrangeThe World: RegisterToVote

NoToGBV

NgaapindeHakeMukomana.

I thank you

“Snooping Into Citizens’ Social Media Accounts Will Not Solve Zim Crisis”

Tinashe Sambiri|Snooping into citizens’ social media accounts will not resolve the political crisis in Zimbabwe, MDC Alliance activist Frank Mandebvu has posited.

Mnangagwa’s administration is desperate to silence dissenting voices as political turmoil rises in the country.

Below is Mandebvu’s presentation…

Social media censorship a desperate move to clamp down on people’s rights

The recent plot by the government to censor the social media is a gross violation of human rights. Snooping into people’s Facebook and Twitter accounts will never improve the economy of Zimbabwe.

This rather is a clear evidence of a desperate government declaring war against its own citizens.the country has more pressing issues to deal with while the leadership is busy trying to consolidate it’s ill-gotten power, this is utter nonsense.

There is a Shona saying ‘kuvhunduka chati kwatara hunge une katurikwa’, ZANU PF is on panic mode the Ngaapinde hake mkomana mantra is giving them sleepless nights because they know they can’t win a free and fair election against him.

In their clueless minds the only option left for them is intimidation, however this time people won’t fall for those old fashioned tactics.

The wave of democracy is sweeping across Africa.People embrace what happened in Zambia and they are very much determined to make it happen in Zimbabwe come 2023.

With all due respect Mr Mnangagwa you have failed, the earlier you accept that fact the better for us all.

Stop corruption. Revive the economy and stop Snooping into people’s private conversations.

Mai Titi Firmly In Zimbabwe With New Husband

‘Message To All ZANU PF Supporters And Officials’

By Farai Maguwu| Civil society Organizations (CSOs) play an important role in enhancing transparency and good governance.

The goal of our activism is the need to create a society that guarantees human security for all Zimbabweans today, tomorrow and forever. A society that is free from fear and want and where the sanctity of life is adored.

A normal society is good for you, your parents, your kids, your relatives and our society at large. These fundamental truths are self-evident. We have dozens of once powerful ZANU PF officials who now wallow in poverty, regretting that they didn’t use their time in government and their proximity to power to create a society they would love to live in even when their days in government are over.

Even former President Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s strong man who ruled with an iron fist for 37 long years, died a very bitter and miserable man. When he was disposed, he began to see the evil of the system he created and presided over for close to four decades.

As his political fortunes waned at the turn of the millennium, Mugabe started suffering from the law of diminishing returns whereby he needed to invest more resources in repression, bribery and corruption in order to prolong his stay in power. The cost of repression was raised as more and more Zimbabweans demanded governance reforms and Mugabe used every available resource for power retention whilst ignoring service delivery.

Fearing an ignominious and ignoble exit from power, Mugabe then dragged our once disciplined and professional security sector into politics by triggering the liberation rhetoric wherein he called on them to defend the gains of independence. War Veterans were also activated. Mugabe only realized his folly in November 2017 when the machinery he had oiled turned on him.

Dethroned, humiliated and powerless, Mugabe began to speak our language, demanding that human rights and the constitution must be respected. He bemoaned loss of people who died trying to protect him because the institutions had been rendered ineffective. Fir the first time in our lifetime, Mugabe expressed concern with the safety and security of the ordinary Zimbabwean.

Current President Emmerson Mnangagwa survived death by a whisker and walked to Mozambique on foot (at least according to him) in November 2017. Given his well-documented liberation war history, isn’t it a shame that such a person ends up seeking refuge in foreign lands because our institutions could not protect him. Mnangagwa had committed no crime. Harbouring presidential ambitions is not a crime under Zimbabwe’s laws.

Fortunately for him, Mnangagwa managed to return in dramatic fashion to overthrow Mugabe and establish himself as the new leader. Some of Mugabe’s loyalists who were feeding the nation with daily dosages of propaganda, with their lips dripping with words of defiance, nullification and interposition are now living in exile, with their tails neatly tucked between their legs.

They long to be allowed back home. Dydimus Mutasa, who spoke like a god and accused of using power to commit violence against his own people, is now a pale shadow of his former self. Jabulani Sibanda, the former War Veterans leader once waged a terror campaign in Masvingo with the backing of state security but today one would be forgiven to think he died a decade or so ago.

Joyce Mujuru and Rugare Gumbo have completely disappeared from the political radar since their unceremonious exit from ZANU PF. Kudzanai Chipanga, a prototype of Tafadzwa Mugwadi, is fondly remembered for his famous ‘apolojersey.’ All these bitter lessons teach us that a nation built on strong institutions is better and safer than one ruled by strong men.

Some of the people mentioned above should be our political lights to whom we turn to for advice. They should be a crowd of witnesses watching carefully that those in authority do not get drunk with power to the point of putting our institutions into their pockets.

They should be holding seminars in universities, colleges and hotels, teaching the young generation leadership skills so they take Zimbabwe forward. But because they chose to be thugs and not leaders, today they are an eyesore, inducted into Zimbabwe’s hall of shame in the court of public opinion. People shake their heads upon sight of them.

They are remembered for extreme cruelty and indifference to human suffering. But they too, like Mugabe, are bitter as they struggle to adjust to the miserable life they condemned their fellow citizens to. Last night, I listened to former Cabinet Minister Saviour Kasukuwere during the Dewa Mavhinga online commemoration.

He said ‘you can only understand the other side when you yourself become a victim’. These are very wise words. No one will enjoy power forever. We came from society and to society we shall return. It is only logical that we use power to build a strong society that will receive and protect us when we leave office. This society is not built along party lines.

Zimbabwe is not ZANU PF and ZANU PF is not Zimbabwe. Unless something radically changes, the next group of ZANU PF leaders will send the current ones into exile nekuti chinenge chava chinhu chavo. We are saying that is sooooo wrong. The cycle of political chaos, power grabs, killings etc must end and an era of stability, unity and sustainable economic growth ushered in.

No one must be followed by state security agents because you belong to the losing ZANU PF faction. Similarly no one must lose their lives or property because they are members of the opposition. Mugabe left us many lessons, one of which being that anyone can join the opposition. The fact that Mugabe died in the opposition, calling for reforms of state institutions, is a very significant endorsement of those calling for dialogue and transformation of our state institutions so they serve citizens and not a political party.

If leaders fail to protect and strengthens institutions, then the institutions will fail to protect them during their hour of need. We want a country governed by laws and strong institutions. We want a country where your farm is not repossessed because you belong to the losing faction in ZANU PF. A country where leaders are not forced into exile because their faction has been kicked out of power.

A country where the courts are not molested by the incumbent so as to deny you the justice you deserve. A country where your savings are safe in the bank.

We want a Zimbabwe where all people are free and have opportunities to pursue their dreams and fulfil them.

All this calls for leadership. As our national anthem says, God bless our nation with exemplary leaders. A new and prosperous Zimbabwe is possible!

Justice Chiweshe Distances Self From Chiwenga- Marry Mubaiwa Marriage Saga

Supreme Court judge Justice George Chiweshe yesterday distanced himself from Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga and his estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa’s alleged marriage fraud saga, saying that he was not responsible for solemnising their marriage.

Justice Chiweshe, the immediate past Judge President of the High Court, said this yesterday while testifying before Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube in a case where Mubaiwa is accused of fraudulently getting married to Chiwenga.

Yesterday, he told the court that he did not solemnise the marriage, but referred Mubaiwa to another marriage officer, now High Court judge, Justice Munamato Mutevedzi.

Mubaiwa is being represented by Beatrice Mtetwa.

Justice Chiweshe told Ncube that Mubaiwa approached him as her uncle at his offices at the High Court and asked to be assisted to get the marriage solemnised, but he referred her to Mutevedzi.

He said he had no suspicions that she was misrepresenting facts as she was already staying with Chiwenga, and the Vice-President had paid lobola for her.

“I assumed it was a request from the couple. Don’t forget Chiwenga had paid
lobola, they were living together and were having children, and so I had no reason to suspect that what Mubaiwa was asking for had not been discussed with her husband,” Justice Chiweshe said, adding that he never thought Mubaiwa’s request would lead them to a courtroom.

He said he was also not aware of the happenings in their marriage as Mubaiwa had stopped communicating with him after marrying the former army general.

In her defence, Mubaiwa pleaded not guilty saying from the time of the payment of her lobola on July 2, 2011, they had agreed that they would formally wed as per custom.

She said a wedding was requested from her family upon conclusion of the
lobola ceremony.

She delivered the parties’ first child on November 4, 2011 and she fell pregnant soon thereafter and gave birth to their second child on November 15, 2012 with a third pregnancy following soon thereafter with the parties’ last child being born on the February 13, 2014,” Mtetwa submitted on behalf of Mubaiwa.

Mtetwa said her client’s back was weakened due to successive pregnancies and she suffered from backpain, resulting in the intended wedding being shelved until she got better.

She said thereafter, Mubaiwa suffered from several other illnesses and was also operated on for sinusitis.

Mtetwa said although the couple discussed the wedding from time-to-time, a date was never set due to several other illnesses after the White City Stadium bomb blast in Bulawayo in July 2018.

She said when Chiwenga was in India in 2019 where he was receiving treatment, the couple agreed that it would have a small wedding and Mubaiwa ordered wedding rings from Chiwenga’s client, which could not have been done without his knowledge.

Mtetwa said Mubaiwa would contend that her prosecution was part of her continued persecution through the use of the criminal justice system and deny that she did anything which could remotely be categorised as a contravention of section 35 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.

The matter was remanded to today for continuation of trial.

2555 COVID-19 Cases Recorded In Zim Yesterday

Zimbabwe is currently battling against the fourth wave of the deadly COVID-19 with cases soaring to as many as 2555 as of yesterday.

Less than two weeks ago, the daily average number of cases was below 50 but the situation is slowly getting out of hand.

UAE To Switch Its Weekend To Saturday And Sunday

The United Arab Emirates will switch its weekend to Saturday and Sunday for government entities as it looks to bring itself more in line with the rest of the world.

The government said it will adopt a 4-1/2 day working week, with Friday — a holy day in Islam — being a half day, from Jan. 1. The UAE and the rest of the Gulf Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, currently have a Sunday-Thursday working week. There were no further details on how the plan will affect the country’s private sector.

The Gulf nation, of which Abu Dhabi and Dubai are a part, has taken several steps recently to open up its economy, including selling stakes in state-controlled companies. The stock markets have also rolled out initiatives to boost liquidity and attract foreign investors.

“This will align the UAE with global markets and make it easier for international corporations to do business,” said Nabil Alyousuf, chief executive officer of Dubai-based International Advisory Group. “This will increase the number of days we do business with the rest of the world, which will boost trade.”

Gas Price Goes Up Again

By Jane Mlambo| The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has today hiked the price of liquefied petroleum gas commonly known as LP Gas from US$2.05 and ZWL$202.78 per kilogram to US$2.14 and ZWL$225.92.

The increase in gas price comes at a time Zimbabwe is battling against relentless power cuts that have seen most areas going to up to eight hours without electricity everyday.

With a lot of urban households now using LP gas for cooking, the just announced price hike will likely impact on the cost of living of most Zimbabweans.

According to the Petroleum Act, ZERA can review the monthly prices of fuel and LP Gas on or around the 5th of each month.

Police sources said Jaji was picked up after the popular prophet filed a report implicating him, ZBC presenter Rutendo Makuti and ZBC engineer Maushe Mutetepi who are currently out on bail on the same charge.

Jaji is likely to be charged together with Makuti and Mutetepi.

Jaji reportedly went to Chief Chikwaka’s homestead waiting for the popular prophet to come so that they could settle the “love” affair between the clergyman and Makuti.

Chief Chikwaka publicly admitted that he had called Jaji together with some unnamed police officers to be part of the negotiations though he could not shed more light as to why the police officers were called since the report came to him as an uncle of Makuti.

Chief Chikwaka did not introduce Inspector Jaji as a police officer but as one of his village elders who was present to help resolve differences between T Freddy and Makuti.

It is alleged that T Freddy later handed over his Mercedes Benz to Makuti after succumbing to pressure from the accused persons.

Later, Makuti started making new demands for US$20 000 which prompted T Freddy to report her to the police for extortion.

Makuti and Mutetepi have since appeared in court facing extortion charges and Inspector Jaji will be the third victim.

Chiwenga Pushes For Marry’s Incarceration

By A Correspondent- The trial of Vice president Constantino Chiwenga’s wife, Marry, started Monday, despite calls from all over the country for Chiwenga to stop persecuting his wife.

The trial started with Marry pleading not guilty to numerous charges, including killing Chiwenga and money laundering.

Marry also denied trying to secretly arrange a wedding with the Vice President saying the latter was fully aware of the plan.

Her lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa had initially applied for the recusal of Harare magistrate Mr Lazini Ncube from presiding over the case arguing that he would not give her client a fair trial.

Ms Mtetwa said she strongly believed Mr Ncube could not determine the case impartially and claimed the magistrate was making decisions on mood swings.
“The law requires that you should recuse yourself as there is a perception that you may be biased. We fear that you will not give the accused person an impartial trial that she deserves,” said Ms Mtetwa.
Ms Mtetwa said her application was based on consistent behaviour by the magistrate against her client.
Prosecutor Mr Tafara Chirambira, however, opposed the application saying the court should not abdicate its functions.

“The defence cannot choose a judicial officer of their own,” he said.
Last week two doctors who recently examined Mubaiwa sent reports to the court claiming that she was mentally fit for trial.
The application was dismissed.
Ms Mtetwa read her client’s defence outline in court stating.
In her defence, Marry said from the time VP Chiwenga paid lobola (bride price) in July 2011 the parties had agreed that they would formally wed and a wedding was requested from her family upon conclusion of the lobola ceremony.
“She will state that she was with the complainant in India in 2019 where she was receiving medical treatment and having so much time in their hands led them to discussing the wedding and they agreed that if they would be back home by July 2, 2019 they would have a small wedding,” reads the defence outline.

She further stated that the deposit of US$15 000 paid for the rings was paid.
“She will further point out that the complainant indicated that he would ask the President to be the best man and since the date had been set, she believed he had asked him” reads her defence outline.
“If he was unaware of the wedding and its date, he would not have spoken about asking the President to be his best man,” she said.
Marry said when they returned to Zimbabwe, the jeweller came to their house to measure their fingers and the complainant fully recognised the jeweller.
The State called its first witness former Judge president Justice George Chiweshe who is now working at the Supreme Court.
In his testimony Justice Chiweshe said he knew Marry as a niece in the extended family sense and a wife to the Vice President.
He said he also worked with the Vice President during the liberation struggle.
“Sometime in mid-2019, the accused person phoned me and said they would want me solemnise their wedding which would be held at their home in Borrowdale Brooke.

“I advised her that this process was done at the Magistrates Court and I could only assist by communicating with the then Chief Magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi.
“I communicated with Mutevedzi and he said he was willing to help as the marriage officer for that occasion,” said Justice Chiweshe.
During cross examination by Ms Mtetwa Justice Chiweshe said he did not suspect any falsehoods from Marry as she was the complainant’s wife.
“It would be strange for a spouse to organise such a ceremony without her husband’s knowledge, that’s why I believed her,” he said.
He did not believe something amiss at that time Marry called him asking for assistance.
The matter was deferred to today for continuation.

Obert Mpofu Grabs Farm, Chases Away Workers

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has been accused of invading the hotly contested Esidakeni Farm in Matabeleland North and chasing away workers.

The farm has come under the spotlight after the government parcelled it out to Mpofu and state security agents as well as National University of Science and Technology lecturer Dumisani Madzivanyati under unclear circumstances.

Malunga, Dhlamini and Moyo are challenging the seizure of the farm in the courts arguing that it was unfairly parcelled out after they bought it from a white former commercial farmer.

The dispute took a nasty turn yesterday after the alleged invasion by Mpofu’s son and “scores of people”.

“I just received a message from my partner Zeph Dhlamini at Esidakeni Farm that Obert Mpofu sent his son and scores of people there,” Malunga said.
“They are ploughing our fields. They chased our workers from the irrigation points and threatened them against taking pictures. This is what Zimbabwe has become.
“We will defend our rights. We will evict them and his people and we will not rest until he answers for his corrupt and criminal abuse of power and authority.
“We know we are not his only victims.” He added: “So this was the cowardly threat he was making: to invade our farm.
“Our fathers and our liberation heroes are surely turning in their graves. But we will fight Obert Mpofu.
“He does not intimidate us.” Malunga, Moyo and Dhlamini are challenging Mpofu’s offer letter for part of the property.
Malunga accused Mpofu of “primitive accumulation of wealth”.
“It’s called primitive accumulation.
“Primitive accumulation because it is primordial, animalistic, irrational and corrupt.
“Accumulation because it is voracious, expropriatory. It’s about taking everything from everyone,” he said.
“After initially denying it, Mpofu has now admitted that he grabbed our farm because he has no farm to grow crops.
“The sense of entitlement is nauseating. The unbridled greed is shocking. He had to take our farm.
“There is nothing revolutionary about his primitive accumulation. In time, I will say how he refused to allocate land to me and my brother Busi 20 years ago after being asked by (late vice-president John Nkomo).
“Then he takes our farm 21 years later.” Mpofu yesterday said he does not “respond to nonsense” when contacted for comment.
On Friday, he posted on Twitter: “I proudly possess an offer later, which was offered after due process. Fronting whites is not due process but trying to justify an illegality is criminal.”
Last week, the sheriff of the High Court evicted Madzivanyati from the farm following a recent High Court order to that effect notwithstanding an appeal he lodged at the Supreme Court.
Justice Evangelista Kabasa’s October 28 order came after Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese also ordered Madzivanyati to stop farming activities and return the farm to the owners. Standard

T Freddy Rape Case-Court Sets Trial Date

By A Correspondent- The rape trial of Harare-based pastor Tapiwa Freddy has been set for the 6th of January 2022.

The founder and leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries appeared in court for his routine remand this Monday.

Prosecutors told the court that they are prepared to commence the trial on the 6th of January 2022 after carrying out further investigations.

Freddy (39), is facing allegations of raping a 33-year-old Harare woman on several occasions.

The self-styled prophet was arrested last month on allegations of raping the woman after promising to assist her with the upkeep of her child.

The court heard that three months after the death of the complainant’s husband in 2020, Freddy proposed love to the woman but she spurned her advances as she was still mourning her husband as per traditional protocols.

Some time in November 2020, Freddy reportedly visited the complainant’s rural home to see her child.

On his return, Freddy allegedly raped the complainant and instructed her to consider him as her new husband, threatening to cast a spell over her if she resisted.

Prosecutors further alleged that sometime in August this year, Freddy took her victim to Moja Shopping Centre in Mbare.

He reportedly physically abused the woman, who is physically challenged and nearly overran her following a heated argument.

Ramaphosa To Update On New Covid-19 Lock-Down Measure

By A Correspondent-President Cyril Ramaphosa introduces a set of new lockdown measures to curb rising coronavirus infections fuelled by the Omicron variant.

Ramaphosa (69) published his weekly letter to the nation, encouraging all citizens to get their COVID-19 vaccines immediately.

The South African president addressed his compatriots eight days ago but chose not to rock the boat but rather to maintain the status quo.

The National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) is set to meet later this week to “review the state of the pandemic”, with a presidential address to the nation likely to follow. Said Ramaphosa:

We will know more about the Omicron variant in the coming days and weeks.

At the same time, we are keeping a close eye on the rates of infection and hospitalisation. I call on all South Africans to go and get vaccinated without delay.

We will soon be convening a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council to review the state of the pandemic.

This will enable us to take whatever further measures are needed to keep people safe and healthy.

Chamisa Targets Mnangagwa Rural Base

By A Correspondent- AN MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is said to be planning to invade the Midlands province, particularly Chirumanzu and Mberengwa districts, reliable sources have said.

Chamisa has been to different rural areas in the country to meet people during his “citizens convergence for change” tours..

His tours were marred by violence from Zanu PF thugs attempting to block him from meeting with citizens.

Chamisa was blocked and attacked in October and November when he visited Masvingo and Manicaland provinces.

There were also attempts to block him during his Mashonaland West, Central and Matabeleland tours.

A source in the MDC Alliance told Southern Eye that Chamisa would be visiting Chirumanzu and Mberengwa districts this week.

However, audio circulating on social media shows an unnamed female Zanu PF official is heard saying the ruling party would block Chamisa from entering Chirumanzu.

“Here in Chirumanzu South as we are talking, there is a rumour that Chamisa will visit Chirumanzu from today (Sunday) onwards. As people of Chirumanzu, we cannot allow our territory to be disturbed like that.
“We sat down as a leadership from the (Zanu PF) central committee to chairpersons of the district to discuss how we should defend our territory,” the Zanu PF official is heard saying on the audio.
“We must block all areas which we think Chamisa will come through from today. Right now police will be mounting roadblocks along the roads, and we will be inside the district and every group will be protecting their wards.”
The Zanu PF official is further heard saying the roads to be used by Chamisa must be blocked with stones and logs to ensure that he does not enter Chirumanzu.
“Last time we allowed him and he got almost 6 000 votes here. So as leaders we saw it fit that we should not allow him here.”
Contacted for comment, Zanu PF Midlands chairperson Daniel Mackenzie Ncube said: “I have listened to the audio. You can’t really make out the voice of the lady.
“The Churumanzu leadership is vehemently dissociating itself from the contents of the audio.
“I am not even aware that Chamisa would be visiting Chirumanzu. Maybe it is because most of the time I am in Mberengwa, and that is why I did not hear this.”
MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba said Chamisa and other leaders of the party were in Masvingo yesterday for the unveiling of his late mother’s tombstone.
Siziba said no matter the plots by Zanu PF to stop his “meet-the-people tours”, they would not succeed.
“The president is here in Gutu for his mother’s tombstone unveiling. Zanu PF will not stop us from moving anywhere in the country no matter how they try,” he said.
He, however, declined to reveal the exact dates when Chamisa would be visiting Chirumanzu and Mberengwa. “We listened to the audio and the party is not moved by the threats,” Siziba said.

Shock As Chinese Miner Buries Mutare Men Alive

By A Correspondent-A Mutare woman is suing a Chinese-owned mining company Xu Zhong Jin Investments after it allegedly caused the death of her husband by burying him alive in one of its shafts.

The miner, Sure Mutamba, and his colleague Vincent Gundo who were artisanal miners, were buried alive when Xu Zhong Jin Investments filled the pit they were in.

The company reportedly dumped earth into the pit even though it was warned that there were two people inside.

The bodies of the miners were retrieved three days later following protests by neighbouring communities.

Mutamba’s widow, Nester Munyongani, and her four-year-old child are demanding $2 million from Xu Zhong Jin Investments as compensation for causing the death of her husband and father and for loss of support.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), who are representing Munyongani and her child, said in a statement:

Xu Zhong Jin Investments, a Chinese mining company is standing trial after being sued for damages by the widow and child of Sure Mutamba, an artisanal miner, who was buried alive in November 2020 as the Chinese miner was rehabilitating a mining site at Premier Estate in Old Mutare in Manicaland province.

The widow, Nester Munyongani and her four-year-old minor child are suing Xu Zhong Jin Investments for $2 million for negligently causing the death of Mutamba and for loss of support emanating from his death.

Mutamba’s body was only exhumed three days after he died following protests by community members over the inhumane operations of the Chinese miner.

The Chinese miner had been advised that Mutamba was underground before its employees even closed the deep pit but they proceeded and closed the pit.

LEAKED: Yipee!, ZANU PF Makes Tiny-Gokwe Town Produce 5 Million Votes | EXCLUSIVE

By Investigative Reporter | ZANU PF F has made the tiny town of Gokwe (currently with a population of less than 500,000 people, produce a record 5,000,000 votes.

A leaked audio of the current ambassador to Mozambique, Victor Matemanda, has the former National Commissar spilling how this has been done. In the lengthy clip, the former Deputy Defence Minister announces in part saying (part transcript):

Gokwe council chairperson, Councillor Ester Senga (left) and town secretary Mrs Melania Mandeya celebrating the newly commissioned solar traffic lights yesterday – file copy

This is not the first time that elections are being held in the Gokwe town. These elections began in 1980. Other people don’t know that if we start with the council in 1980 it had many counsellors 38 in number but the miracles that happened in the town is that during that time there was ZAPU and ZANU. Each won 18. Many who are running today, do not know what they’re talking about; they don’t know that the problem of the council getting into a crisis of 18 apiece, how did we solve it. We will just tell those who ask us.

All those who you see our jumping up and down do not know this thing. They do not know that the town is structured in what way from the time it was north and south. Many do not know and many do not want to ask because they pretend like they know. Those who were there they know that it was once one constituency. You know it well, right now … those constituencies are now 9-in number many who are jumping around do not know how the 9 constituencies came about; don’t want to work with those who made it work for the new 9 constituencies.

That’s why you see right now while in Gokwe, that we want 5 million votes.

Meanwhile, contacted for a comment, Ambassador Matemadanda had not responded at the time of writing. Several insiders however confirmed the audio saying it is Matemadanda’s.

Policeman Murdered At A Bulawayo Night-Club

By A Correspondent- A Police officer died after he was allegedly attacked, resulting in a deep cut on the back of the head and bruises in the mouth in the early hours of yesterday in Pumula South, Bulawayo.

Sunday News visited the area yesterday where shocked residents said the murder was worrying and could have been fuelled by bars in the area that were flouting Covid-19 lockdown measures by operating late into the night.
A resident said he was a friend of the police officer and expressed shock at his death.
“He was my friend and had been for a long time.
I am saddened by his death and hope those responsible will be arrested soon.
My friend didn’t even drink alcohol and did not deserve to die the way he did,” the friend said.
Some residents said gangs were patrolling the area and drinking beer at local bars late into the night.
Police officers told Sunday News that the body of their colleague was discovered by two officers who were on night patrol.
The patrol team had responded after a resident reported that there was a body lying near Eyethu Sports Bar at Makoni Shopping Centre in Pumula South at around 1.30am.
“The police officers proceeded to check on the state of the body.
When they checked for pulse on the neck and wrist, no pulse could be felt.
Upon discovering that the body was lifeless one of the officers went to the station to inform their superior,” an officer said.
The officer said they managed to positively identify the body as that of their colleague and it had a deep cut at the back of the head on the right side and bruises on the mouth.
The officer added that their colleague was on morning shift at Emthunzini base and had knocked off duty at 1pm on Friday.
Police could not immediately give an official comment on the matter. Sunday News

New South African Drivers Walk Away After Discovering They’re Foreigners On Crossing Border

LETTERS | I don’t know how true this is. However it shows us how lack of common sense in how we do things can cost us dearly. Whilst these trucks are parked, then is no tax revenue being generated. The same tax revenue that is meant to deliver public services like health, schools and more

…………..

A young trucker from Mpumalanga in South Africa. | FB

One of the trucking companies in Durban South Africa fired all foreign drivers. They then called South African Drivers to take up the jobs. A few turned up..but most didn’t have passports. Those that had passports, upon realising that once they cross the border they will also be foreigners, they then refused to drive across the borders and walked away. It’s painful to be stupid.

LEAKED- Plan To Block Chamisa, Chirumanzu

An MDC Alliance official has claimed that they have unearthed a Zanu PF plot to block opposition party leader Nelson Chamisa from visiting the Midlands province, particularly Chirumanzu and Mberengwa districts this week.

Man Fakes Businessman’s Death

A row over the ownership of Roslee Farm in Umguza District in Matabeleland North has spilled into the High Court with a Bulawayo company seeking to boot out one of its shareholders, Mr Zephaniah Matiwaza for failing to honour his obligation.

Mr Matiwaza entered into an agreement of sale of the farm with Mr Colin Ian Venables.

According to the agreement, the price of the farm was US$25 000 and Mr Matiwaza paid a deposit of US$10 000 through Mr Venables’ lawyers Coghlan and Welsh Legal Practitioners.

Mr Matiwaza then failed to pay the remainder on an agreed date resulting in the cancellation of the agreement.

Through his lawyers, he is alleged to have then fraudulently transferred the farm into his name under deed of transfer 71/2019. This was after Mr Matiwaza had faked Mr Venables’ death.

The agreement stated that in the event that the certificate was not acquired by August 30, 2009, the agreement of sale would fall away and be declared null and void.

Following the termination of the agreement of sale between the two parties, Mr Matiwaza engaged C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd and proposed a partnership to jointly acquire the property.

The consideration of the property was US$45 000 and the US$10 000, which Mr Matiwaza had paid to Mr Venables in the abortive sale was to constitute a deposit towards the purchase price.

In terms of the new arrangement, C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd would pay Mr Venables the balance of the purchase price of US$35 000 with Mr Matiwaza reimbursing the company pro-rata share of the purchase price.

Mr Matiwaza would then pay his shortfall of US$20 000 to qualify for his shares. In terms of the agreement, C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd was to have 40 percent stake in the partnership with Mr Matiwaza retaining 60 percent.

However, the partnership between the two parties did not consummate following Mr Matiwaza’s failure to pay for his shares in full.

On December 2015, Mr Venables then sold the property to C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd for US$45 000 after meeting the terms and conditions of the agreement. C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd obtained a certificate of no present interest as laid out in terms of the Land Acquisition Act as read with Statutory Instrument 287/99.

C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd, through its lawyers Tanaka Law Chambers, has now filed an application at the Bulawayo High Court seeking an order for the cancellation of Mr Matiwaza’s fraudulently acquired deed of transfer.

In papers before the court, the Registrar of Deeds, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Anxious Masuka, Mr Matiwaza and Mr Venables as respondents.

In his founding affidavit, C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd managing director Mr Dumisani Sibanda wants the title deed number 17/19 registered under Mr Matiwaza’s name to be cancelled. He also wants an order directing the Registrar of Deeds and Dr Masuka to take necessary steps to pass transfer of the Roslee Farm into Mr Venables’ name.

“The applicant (C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd) bought the property from the fourth respondent (Mr Venables) and met the terms and conditions of sale after third respondent (Mr Matiwaza)’s failure to meet the conditions of sale.

“C Gauche (Pvt) Ltd is the rightful owner of the property having obtained a certificate of no present interest and payment of the full purchase price,” said Mr Sibanda.

In terms of the Land Acquisition Act, a certificate of no present interest in relation to any rural land is a written statement by the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister indicating that the President has no intention to acquire the land in question for the time being.

Mr Sibanda argued that Mr Matiwaza did not have requisite documents to effect a lawful transfer of the property.

“The third respondent resorted to misrepresentation and fraud to compensate for his critical shortcomings hence the mischievous strategy to abuse the court processes,” said Mr Sibanda.

He said the property was fraudulently transferred to Mr Matiwaza in 2019 under transfer deed 71/2019 by virtue of a court order obtained fraudulently through a default judgment HC647/16.

Mr Matiwaza is currently facing perjury charges as defined in terms of section 183 of the Criminal Law (Reform and Codification) Act.

He was remanded out of custody to December 13 for commencement of trial. -Chronicle

If You’re Not Prepared To Die For Freedom, You Don’t Deserve Freedom- Mutambara

The Dewa Lessons and Values

By AGO Mutambara in Memory of Dewa Mavhinga 06/12/2021

Self-selection: Leadership is a decision. Leaders are neither born nor made. Leadership is a choice. Dewa chose to lead.

Self-sacrifice: The price of freedom is death. The path of a revolutionary is a journey of sacrifices. If you are not prepared to die for freedom, you don’t deserve freedom. If you are not prepared to die for justice, you don’t deserve justice. If you are not prepared to die for democracy, you don’t deserve democracy. A revolutionary has no life. It belongs to the struggle, to the people, to the cause. Dewa understood this.

Education and hard work: Revolutionaries must diligently and masterfully pursue both formal and informal exposure or training. There must be excellence in both the streets and the classrooms. Change agents must be relentless and fearless. Dewa was an embodiment of courage and a personification of excellence.

Disagree without being disagreeable: Fighters for and defenders of human rights, democracy and freedom must NOT use terms like sellout or traitor to describe those they disagree with in a common struggle, be they rivals or opponents. Freedom fighters must NOT use and internalize repressive regimes’ violent and disparaging language. Such language is meant to de-legitimize competitors and justify their physical elimination (death). Human rights activists, opposition activists and progressive journalists cannot be part of such a value system. Dewa never stooped that low.

Econet Data Is A Fraud- Broadcaster

By Ezra Tshisa Sibanda | Econet data is pathetic, this company is a fraud. It’s expensive, very useless and has failed its customers.

Today the data has not been working since around 5pm and no word from this unscrupulous company.

We still don’t have Internet yet we paid for it. The service is deplorable, network the worst in Southern Africa.

The inconvenience caused is shocking, they don’t care and keep raising their tariffs. This situation is greatly inconvenient since my business and leisure activities have a heavy reliance on reliable access to the internet but let down by econet. Its ironic that although clients have a choice of options on the service that they want, they have to rely on rubbish flopping Zim networks.

Econet continues to milk their clients letting them down, with poor network, data bundles disapearing, money dissapearing from ecocash wallet. Now we are unable to use the data bundles we purchased and won’t be reimbursed. The Government of Zimbabwe needs to open an office of fair trading to monitor companies like econet which are very unprofessional and keep scamming their customers. Its time for the government to license other players and stop protecting Econet and Netone yet they have failed the people of Zimbabwe for years. – Ezra Tshisa Sibanda

Statement On World AIDS Day 2021

MDC Alliance Mourns Human Rights Champion Dewa Mavhinga

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has described the late human rights defender Dewa Mavhinga as a man who spent his life fighting for the emancipation of the people of Zimbabwe.

The whole nation is mourning the sudden death of the human rights champion.

“The MDC Alliance expresses its deepest condolences at the sudden passing of human rights champion
@dewamavhinga
. He was a pillar of the struggle for a better Zimbabwe. He will be greatly missed.

May his dear soul Rest In Peace,” MDC Alliance said in a brief statement.

Mutambara’s Speech At Dewa Mavhinga Memorial | FULL TEXT

The Dewa Lessons and Values

By AGO Mutambara in Memory of Dewa Mavhinga | Self-selection: Leadership is a decision.

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

Rest in Peace, an icon of the Human Rights struggles in Zimbabwe, SADC, Africa and the Global South

Obert Mpofu In Farm Invasion Storm

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu was yesterday accused of invading the hotly contested Esidakeni Farm in Matabeleland North and chasing away workers.

Standard

Cop Found Dead At A Bulawayo Pub

By A Correspondent-A Police officer died after he was allegedly attacked, resulting in a deep cut on the back of the head and bruises in the mouth in the early hours of yesterday in Pumula South, Bulawayo.

Sunday News

Chaos At The Three Zim Nationals’ Funeral Send -Off In Joburg

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwean community in Johannesburg’s northern suburb of Windsor East was at the weekend thrown into mourning following the deaths of three of their friends who died in an accident near the Rhema Church in Randburg.

The trio of Liberty Makore (27), Eddie Tapera (26) and Laura Sanyika (24) were killed when an Audi A4 hit the car they were travelling in during the early hours of last Sunday on their way from a popular entertainment centre called Pamusha near Cosmo City.
The driver of the car they were in and another female passenger survived the mishap and are out of hospital.
Tapera died instantly while Makore died on the way to hospital. Sanyika was in a coma and succumbed to her injuries last Sunday afternoon.
The driver of the car that hit them, varnished from the scene and the South African Police Service is hunting for him. They just left the wrecked cars and fled the scene.
For a whole week, the community joined hands and attended funeral services throughout the week.
On Friday and Saturday, hundreds brought the township to a standstill and they conducted a street send-off gala at the Windsor East shopping centre.
Police could not even attempt to disrupt the event that was characterized by song and dance as they sent off Tapera and Makore over the two days.
Tapera was repatriated on late Friday afternoon while Makore was sent home on Saturday afternoon.
Makore was in the tree-felling business and his fellow colleagues brought motorised chainsaws imitating what he used to do when he was at work.
Others danced on top of the trailer that was carrying his remains.
Expensive gin, beer and whiskey was poured on top of the trailer as a “way of celebrating his way of life”.
Some ladies sang songs whose lyrics are unprintable claiming he was one of their “clients”.
Some blew condoms and spread them across the tarmac. Fireworks and helium balloons were also in the mix as the ‘celebratory’ mood continued.
Renowned pastor Kelvin Zivavose had a hard time delivering his send-off service sermon.
He had to also climb on top of the hearse in order to be heard. He was flanked by another elder in the community Nyasha Mupimbira.
“Let me remind all of you that you must be always in good books with the Lord. Remember one day you shall leave this earth and you shall be accountable to God.
“Take time to get to learn the word of God. We may be mourning Liberty today but tomorrow it could be you. Be ready for that day,” preached Pastor Kelvin.
A number of other community leaders donated their vehicles to be used during the funeral service.
“As a community of Zimbabweans in a foreign land we need to remain united and help each other especially when it is a time of need like this.
“We have plans to set up a formal society where we will pool funds together so that we assist each other in times of needs,” said James Chetsanga one of the leaders.
After the sermon the hearse moved onto the N1 highway which connects Johannesburg and Beitbridge.
Again there was a traffic blockade as the singing and dancing continued.
Tapera was buried in Mhondoro on Saturday and Makore was expected to be buried in Shurugwi today.
Plans are underway to ensure the remains of Sanyika are sent home before the end of the week. “We will be back again on the streets during the week to ensure Laura gets a decent send-off as well.
“We will not get tired,” quipped one of the ghetto youths known as Hebza “Childish Gambino” Jakaz.

War In Zanu PF Provincial Elections

By A Correspondent- The battle for the control of Matabeleland North by Zanu PF factions is heating up with one of the camps accused of resorting to dirty tactics.

Former Tsholotsho senator Believe Gaule, who is said to be a staunch ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is seeking to topple Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs minister Richard Moyo as provincial chairperson.

Gaule, a former Zanu PF district coordinating committee chairman for Tsholotsho, is said to be enjoying an upper hand in the race as shown by the outcome of district elections held so far.

In the Hwange district elections held last weekend, Reeds Dube who is fighting in Gaule’s corner polled 475 votes against 65 for Gift Nyoni, a Moyo supporter.

Gaule is said to be controlling five districts, which are his home area of Tsholotsho, Bubi, Binga, Nkayi and Hwange.

On his part Moyo has Umguza in his pocket while Lupane is split between the two protagonists.

Gaule’s supporters are accusing Moyo of employing dirty tactics like threatening to suspend some districts chairpersons for refusing to support him.
He is also accused of using state resources for his campaign activities.
Sources said during the Hwange elections, Moyo’s teams were distributing t-shirts with messages such as “Givie (Gift Nyoni) ngena (get in), Reeds phuma (get out)”.
A message distributed through a WhatsApp group and written by one James Phiri from Hwange read: “On Saturday Lwendulo will decide whether to accept and follow Gaule or remain Zanu PF with Gift Nyoni.
“The good thing about Hwange people is that they will pretend to like you, but take you out through the ballot. Lwendulo think and act wisely.”
Gaule was one of the people behind the Dinyane High School meeting in 2004, which was later to be known as the Tsholotsho Declaration.
A total of six provincial chairpersons namely Philip Chiyangwa (Mashonaland West), now late Themba Ncube (Bulawayo), July Moyo (Midlands), Jacob Mudenda (Matabeleland North), Lloyd Siyoka (Matabeleland South), Daniel Shumba (Masvingo) and Mike Madiro (Manicaland) attended the gathering under the guise of a prize giving ceremony.
It later turned out the meeting was meant to push for Mnangagwa to take over the post of vice president ahead of Joice Mujuru.
The vice presidency had become vacant following the death of Simon Muzenda.
However, at the end of the day then president Robert Mugabe supported Mujuru and Mnangagwa’s plans were scuttled.
At the Dinyane meeting Gaule had brought a leopard skin for Mnangagwa who was supposed to the guest of honour at the prize giving day ceremony, but ended up not turning up due to an emergency politburo meeting and Patrick Chinamasa had to stand in for him.
Artefacts such as leopard skins are only reserved for royalty in the African set-up.
Gaule and Moyo could not be reached for comment yesterday. Standard

1000 Prison Officers Test Positive For Covid-19

By A Correspondent- At least 990 Prison officers have tested positive for Covid-19 in the country’s prisons since the pandemic, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has announced.

ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu told the Sunday Mail that they managed to contain the situation and avoided further spreading of the virus.

“As part of measures to contain its (the virus) spread, the ZPCS has been religiously following and adhering to both the WHO (World Health Organisation) and national guidelines and protocols to prevent the spread of this virus.”
He added: “Those infected have been isolated to curb the spread of the disease. Uptake of vaccination has also been pleasing.
“We are also cognisant of the fact that there is a new variant that was recently detected in Botswana and South Africa; hence the ZPCS continues to conduct awareness campaigns within its cantonment areas.
“In terms of statistics, a total number of 992 officers and 2 038 inmates were infected with the virus, with 32 deaths being recorded (10 officers, 18 inmates and four dependants).”

He said 90 percent of all prison officers have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Munatsi Buried With Family Demanding Answers

By A Correspondent- Investment banker and Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) chief executive Mr Douglas Munatsi was buried at Greendale Cemetery in Harare Sunday, with his family demanding answeres on the cause of the fire that killed him.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Province Oliver Chidawu described Mr Munatsi as a charismatic man who built big businesses from nothing.
“When we started BancABC, Douglas was the brains behind. I had no idea about a balance sheet, but he was a man who was able to bring talent to achieve his objectives,” he said.
“We did not have money, but we had brains and we achieved a lot. His death is not only a loss to the Munatsi family, but a loss to the whole country.
“We have lost a committed and hardworking man who was determined to work for his country. He was the chief investment officer of the Government; he was also the chief marketing officer of the Government and the void he has left is irreplaceable.”
BancABC chief executive Dr Lance Mambondiani said Mr Munatsi, like his name, did good to people and the nation.
“We recognise Douglas not only as a leader to his family and his private businesses, but also as someone who decided to leave a private life to serve his country.
“He had the courage to do so and he died contributing to his country,” said Dr Mambondiani.
A family friend, Mr Francis Dzanya, said Mr Munatsi was a hardworking family man and great friend.
“People walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave a footprint in your heart. Douglas was an intelligent man and to his children, I say they should follow his footsteps so that his legacy lives on.
“I suggest that one of the streets in Mufakose where Mr Munatsi grew up, should be named after him,” said Mr Dzanya.
National Railways of Zimbabwe board chairman, Advocate Martin Dinha, said: “In the rail sector, as you are aware, we are undergoing recapitalisation; he had a key interest to find that we had investors for the development of railways. The nation has lost a man who had a vision and a passion for the country.”
Former BancABC marketing manager Mr Desmond Ali said Munatsi was a leader in the mould of what “John Maxwell would call a level five leader”.
“He developed others to be leaders,” said Mr Ali.
Family spokesperson, Mr Teddy Gazi said: “We find ourselves recounting incidents where he has impacted our lives. Most certainly, he was somebody we are beginning to miss. Already we are recounting, and feel the void that he has left.”

Nakamba Inspires Aston Villa To Crucial Win

Marvellous Nakamba produced yet another midfield masterclass to help Aston Villa to a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Villa Park on Sunday.

The resurgent Warriors star, who has greatly improved his game under new coach Steven Gerrard, was arguably one of, if not the best Vila player in the tightly-contested clash.

He made crucial interceptions in the Claret and Blue engine room, with his passing game also on point, in his forth consecutive start since Gerrard took over.

“Marvelous Nakamba has gone from one of the fringe players in the team with little confidence to one of the most important to me. He’s in the form of his career and I couldn’t be happier for him,” wrote Villa podcaster Ty Bracey on Twitter.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

World AIDS Day Statement

Remove Opposition Councillors, Says ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has accused the opposition controlled urban councils of being corrupt.

He said the coming elections provide an opportunity to remove them.

Mnangagwa was speaking at Madamara Shopping Centre in Bulawayo during a clean-up campaign.

“I further urge local authorities to stop the abuse of resources of ratepayers.

“(The abuse of resources) has resulted in failure to collect and manage waste, among other acts and omissions.

Mnangagwa, who has been accused of being corrupt himself, said this, “has become a reflection of the quality of councillors and management.”

He said this is rife especially in the urban areas and should be changed in the coming elections.

“The forthcoming elections present an opportunity for them to be voted out of office.”

“As a caring government my administration will continue to provide resources to accelerate the devolution and decentralisation agenda to ensure citizens enjoy the quality service that they deserve.

Councils have been struggling to provide services and have constantly cited the poor macro-economic environment.

However, in the aftermath of massive recalls the Chamisa-led MDC Alliance has exonerated itself of any blame.

Barbra Rwodzi Says She Cried In Front Of Supporters After Being Appointed Deputy Minister

Newly appointed Deputy minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Barbra Rwodzi says she cried in front of party supporters after receiving a phone call informing her of her appointment as a deputy minister.

Posting on Twitter, Rwodzi said the phone call came when she was in the constituency discussing a project with a group of women which she said touched her heart.

“The phone call of the appointment came through when I was in the far end of my constituency near Shurugwi under a tree discussing a project with a group of women, it touched my heart and couldn’t help myself but cried in front of them,” said Rwodzi.

The Chirumhanzu legislator grabbed the limelight after the led protests at the Pan African Parliament meeting in South Africa challenging West African countries who were trying to retain leadership of the association, while Southern African countries called for rotation.

South African politician Julias Malema is a huge admirer of Rwodzi and recently stated that she deserves to be the president of Zimbabwe.

“She deserves to be the president and replace that former self. I know Barbara Rwodzi, you are strong and very passionate about our continent. Don’t all the Zanupf misogynists speak down on you and make you feel like you are insignificant; you are better than mediocrity in that space,” Malema said soon after the news of Rwodzi’s appointment broke out.

“We will dearly miss you at Pan African Parliament. Your fearless character inspired all of us who stood on the side of the truth. You Barbara Rwodzi led us from the front, I hope you will not be replaced with some worthless old fellow. Asante Sana,” added Malema.

FULL TEXT- MDC Alliance Statement On Omicron Variant

Statement by MDC Alliance Secretary for Health and Child Welfare Dr Henry Madzorera on the Omicron variant.

About Omicron and how to respond to it

The Omicron variant of SARS CO-V-2 was first identified in Botswana and South Africa just over two weeks ago.

It is now present in all the WHO regions of the world. It has over 30 mutations on its spike protein and this has caused extreme panic among world leaders.

We have seen the introduction of somewhat irrational and knee-jerk decisions that are not guided by science.

It is generally believed that because of the number of mutations of the Omicron variant and the fact that it has all the mutations of previous variants, it is likely to combine all the vicious attributes of previous COVID-19 infections, in terms of transmissibility and possibly, severity of illness.

At this stage, these predictions remain speculation because the epidemic is still unfolding and there is a lot more to learn.

In the meantime, we must all exercise caution and continue to religiously observe all COVID-19 safe protocols.

These include washing our hands regularly with soap, sanitising, wearing masks, respecting cough etiquette, social distancing, avoiding crowded & poorly ventilated rooms, staying outdoors as much as possible and avoiding super spreader events, including funerals, large political gatherings, large celebrations, and ZUPCO buses.

Vaccination of all eligible Zimbabweans remains one of the most important interventions. Government must redouble its efforts to get ten million people vaccinated as soon as possible.

Because of the paucity of information in these early phases of the omicron pandemic, these tried and tested scientifically proven methods of transmission prevention should suffice.

Unfortunately, the ill-thought-out COVID-19 containment measures announced by the developed world do not have the backing of Science and do not inspire any sense of global solidarity in the fight against the pandemic.

As new evidence accrues, we hope those measures will be proven impotent and be reviewed promptly.

The Government of Zimbabwe has also announced measures to contain the virus and prevent a nasty fourth wave.

These measures include mandatory PCR testing for COVID-19 at ports of entry and mandatory quarantine, both at the expense of those travelling.

Unfortunately, these measures have been clumsily imposed without regard for the science and the consequences of the said measures.

Most agree that imposing a mandatory two-week quarantine for persons who test negative is grossly unreasonable and must be reconsidered.

We implore the government to remove the unreasonable border controls, especially the mandatory quarantine particularly for those who test negative.

Mass testing remains important to ensure we isolate those with the infection. The testing should be done by government at a nominal fee and on a not for profit basis.

This is not the time for anybody to profiteer from the pandemic. The economic burden is heavy on the people already. Self-isolation can be done at home as has been in the past.

JUST IN: Charges Against Hopewell Chin’ono Dismissed

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has announced that the High Court has dismissed charges of incitement to Public Violence laid against him by the state when he was arrested in July last year.

Chin’ono who has endured 15 months before the Harare Magistrates court applied for exception of charges on the basis that the charges raised by the state did not amount to a criminal offence.

His application was dismissed at the Harare Magistrates court prompting him to approach the High Court to challenge the decision of the lower court.

The High Court has just dismissed charges against him.

“The High Court of Zimbabwean has dismissed the charges against me for Incitement to Public Violence. It means my arrest was & my case were trumped up as I have always argued! I spent the past 15 months in jails and courts for something that I didn’t do! It was cruel and tragic,” said Chin’ono while posting on Twitter.

Latest On T Freddy Trial

By A Correspondent- The rape trial of Harare-based pastor, Tapiwa Freddy, has been set for the 6th of January 2022.

He reportedly physically abused the woman, who is physically challenged and nearly overran her following a heated argument-statemedia

WHO Speaks On Booster Shots For Covid-19

By A Correspondent- The World Health Organisation (WHO) says it is not necessary to administer COVID-19 vaccine booster shots for the whole population as a way of providing greater protection against Omicron.

Zimbabwe recently directed all frontline workers and people with chronic diseases to get COVID-19 booster shots with immediate effect to protect them against the Omicron variant.

World Health Organisation head of emergencies programme, Michael Ryan said there is no evidence that shows booster shots are needed by the entire population. He said:

Right now, there is no evidence that I am aware of that suggests that boosting the entire population is going to necessarily provide greater protection for otherwise healthier individuals against hospitalisation and death.

Otherwise, the real risk of severe disease hospitalisation and death lies in particularly vulnerable individuals who require protection against the variants of COVID-19.

In countries in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in Europe, governments have recommended booster shots for their citizens who are fully vaccinated.

Zimbabwe has experienced a surge in new coronavirus infections in recent days. Cases rose from 255 on Monday last week, 399 on Tuesday and 712 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the country recorded 1 042 new cases, 1 062 on Friday and 1 082 on Saturday.

On Sunday, new cases fell to 523 because fewer people were tested (2 500), with the test positivity at 21.0%, up from 15.2% on Saturday.-newsday

Warrant of Arrest For State Witness In Mako Trial

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Thursday issued a warrant of arrest for Naison Silomonye, a state witness who didn’t turn up in court to continue testifying against five pro-democracy campaigners including Makomborero Haruzivishe who are on trial for allegedly committing public violence

Silomonye, who was already on the witness stand during the trial, decided to abscond and reportedly travelled to Beitbridge on government business.

The five’s lawyer, Obey Shava protested before Magistrate Mangosi that the State has been directly or indirectly trying to frustrate trial proceedings and stated that the court needs to control its own processes as well as maintaining the integrity of the criminal justice system and for the public to maintain confidence in the courts.

In response, Magistrate Mangosi ruled that Silomonye had no right to decide when he should attend court proceedings.

He stated that court business takes precedence over other including government business.

Apart from Haruzivishe, the other four include Allan Moyo, Denford Ngadziore, Stanley Manyenga and Cecelia Chimbiri.

Africa’s Largest Mobile Network Operator Says Employees Who Refuse Vaccination Will Be Fired

By A Correspondent- MTN has joined a growing number of South African companies that have implemented a vaccine mandate amid the battle with the fourth wave of Covid-19 and the new Omicron variant.

Africa’s largest mobile network operator said that those employees who refuse vaccinations, without a valid reason, will be fired.

The policy will start in January.

“The science is clear. Vaccination against Covid-19 reduces rates of serious infections, hospitalisation, and death,” MTN group president and CEO Ralph Mupita said in a statement.

“As an employer, we have a responsibility to ensure that our workplaces are guided by the highest standards of health and safety, and that has informed our decision to make Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for our staff.

“Our new Covid-19 policy recognises that some of our markets don’t have adequate access to vaccines. It also recognises some low-risk roles that will be accommodated with full-time work-from-home or alternate arrangements, but this will be a small population within our workforce.”

MTN said it recognised the right of employees to apply to be exempted from the policy or refuse vaccination on certain “clearly defined grounds”

“For those staff who are not exempt from vaccinations either through risk assessment or agreed exclusions but still refuse vaccination, MTN will not be obliged to continue the employment contract.”

Last week Standard Bank and Old Mutual said that they made it mandatory for their staff to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

This also comes as business, labour and community partners have submitted proposals on vaccine mandates to the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) after President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government will form a task force to look into making vaccines compulsory for people to access some areas and engage in some activities

I Am Ready To Become Prime Minister, Says Mwonzora

MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora has told his supporters that he is ready to become Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister as he pushes for dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to form a unity government.

Addressing party supporters in Marondera at the weekend, Mwonzora said the country was likely to have a second government of national unity (GNU).

The weekend meeting was meant to consult party structures on whether they should go ahead and engage Mnangagwa over coalescing for a GNU.

Since 2019, the MDC-T has been fighting the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa by recalling its MPs and taking over its (MDC Alliance) party headquarters and political funding from the fiscus.

Mwonzora’s party has been labelled a Zanu PF appendage.

The MDC-T leader said nationwide consultations showed that his supporters wanted a GNU.

“This is one of the first meetings we are doing, to spread our message of dialogue; our message is to make people ready for elections. But basically, it was consultations and advising people of the decision made by the national council for us to intensify the issue of dialogue,” Mwonzora said.

“The results of dialogues are known. We may have a GNU or whatever arrangement, and that is what I was talking about. We want to follow in the footsteps of Morgan Tsvangirai. He did dialogue and it was in the best interests of the people of Zimbabwe. And we want to follow suit. It is up to the people of Zimbabwe, I am ready to serve what the people of Zimbabwe will ask me to do.”

Prof Jonathan Moyo’s Warning To ED

By A Correspondent- Exiled former ZANU PF politburo member Professor Jonathan Moyo has warned President Emmerson Mnangagwa against trying to oust his deputy in government and in the ruling party, Constantino Chiwenga.

This follows reports that Mnangagwa’s allies are plotting a vote of no confidence against Chiwenga fearing that he may want to run for the presidency in 2023.

Chiwenga was Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) commander in 2017 when the military overthrew the late Robert Mugabe and replaced him with Mnangagwa.

Other reports allege Mnangagwa and Chiwenga fell out immediately after colluding to get rid of Mugabe after the former reneged on a deal to serve only one presidential term.

Writing on Twitter, Moyo, who was was part of the G40 faction which rivalled Mnangagwa’s Lacoste, said history is now repeating itself. Said Moyo:History repeats itself as a farce. People in ZANU PF need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Some of us learnt our lessons about Mnangagwa’s treachery in 2004; after the so-called Tsholotsho Declaration.

Emmerson is a user. In short, he is a snake. He used Chiwenga in 2017.

The Tsholotsho Declaration refers to a clandestine meeting organised by a faction loyal to Mnangagwa in 2004 to plot ZANU PF’s succession.

The plot’s objective was to have Mnangagwa elevated to the vice presidency ahead of Joice Mujuru, succeeding the late Simon Muzenda.

In another tweet, Moyo suggested that Mnangagwa’s loyalists in Masvingo and Midlands Provinces were plotting Chiwenga’s downfall unaware that they were playing with fire. Wrote Moyo:

Dear Mnangagwa, your clansmen in Zanu PF are mobilising dirty tricks against your deputy in government, who is also one of your two deputies in your party.

You do not need me of all people to warn you that you are playing a dangerous game, as good as digging your own political grave!

Mnangagwa carried out a coup to grab power, lying that he is bringing in a new dispensation and a new Republic to end what used to happen in the Mugabe days; yet he is doing the same and, in some cases, doing worse.

Mthuli Ncube Clears Air On Forex Bonus

By A Correspondent- Civil servants will continue getting their salaries in local currency even though they received their bonuses in US dollars.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube on Friday revealed that while bonuses were paid in foreign currency, Government will continue to pay salaries in local currency.

Civil servants’ representatives have been pushing for salaries to be paid in foreign currency but Ncube said payment of bonuses in USD is a “once-off gesture” from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Said Ncube:

No (We are not going to pay salaries in US dollars.) This is a once-off gesture from His Excellency, just to deal with inflationary pressures that we saw emerging in this last quarter.

We will continue to pay our normal salaries in Zimbabwe dollars.

Ncube said Treasury has released about US$120 million for civil servants’ bonuses as well as civil service pensioners and war veterans and this has been done to cushion them against rising inflation.

He said:

In terms of the civil servants bonuses for this year, we basically released about US$120 million.

We hope this will go a long way in dealing with the inflationary pressures they are facing.

This is the decision of the President to deal with those inflationary pressures. Inflation has been ticking up so we just want to make sure that they are protected from this inflation.

So, we thought that it would be a good idea to certainly pay them in US dollars. This also covers pensioners, as well as war veterans.

Vendors Flood Tollgates

By A Correspondent- Vendors selling foodstuffs, mainly drinks, fruits and snacks at most toll gates across the country are now engaged in illegal forex deals thereby depriving the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) of the much-needed foreign currency.

The vendors are reportedly buying foreign currency at black market rates so motorists can use Zimbabwe dollars to pay tollgate fees at official rates.

The majority of motorists will be more than willing to deal with the forex dealers as they will be paying less in local currency than in USD since there is a huge discrepancy between the official rate used by ZINARA and the parallel market rate used by vendors.

ZINARA charges US$2 for light vehicles or ZWL$164 in local currency. Vendors would offer motorists ZWL$164 for just US$1 making it a no-brainer for the latter to take the offer.

As a result, ZINARA is being deprived of thousands of US dollars in potential revenue as the money is being mopped up at tollgates by the vendors as motorists choose to convert their USD to local currency which they then use to pay toll fees.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said vending and money changing at tollgates is against the law and those engaging in such activities will be arrested.

He said:

As the police and ZINARA, we have taken a common position that vending and foreign currency dealings at tollgates are illegal.

The police will take all the necessary measures to ensure the illegal vendors are removed from tollgates.

Those who resist will be arrested. We also urged ZINARA officials who are also at toll gates to conscientise the people that vending and money changing are illegal.

Asst Comm Nyathi also warned police officers who dabble in such activities and join money-changers that the long arm of the law will catch up with them.-statemedia

Cornered Man Swallows Ecstacy Tablets

By A Correspondent- A Harare man swallowed 20 ecstasy tablets to avoid arrest after he was cornered by police detectives.

Aubrey David John Judge (55) of Greendale, Harare, appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje on Friday facing charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs

He was represented by Macpatrick Zinyakatira. His bail ruling was set for Monday.

Prosecutors told the court that on 1 December this year at around 3 PM, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs Section, Harare, received a tip-off that the accused was in possession of dangerous drugs.

The detectives proceeded to Arcadia Shopping Centre in Braeside, Harare where they located the accused and identified themselves.

John Judge then immediately swallowed a plastic sachet containing 20 ecstasy tablets in a bid to conceal them.

The detectives forced him to spit out the plastic sachet containing the pills.

Tests were conducted and came out positive for Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, which is a part of a dangerous drug with an approximate weight of 4.5 grams.

The 20 ecstasy tablets had a street value of $20 000.-newsday

2 000 Prisoners Test Positive For Covid-19

By A Correspondent- Over 2000 inmates have tested positive for Covid-19 in the country’s prisons since the pandemic outbreak, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has announced.

Mnangagwa Throws Gold Smuggling Partner Under The Bus

By A Correspondent- Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya, a dealer considered close to the first family, has been kicked out of a gold mining venture in Penhalonga, Manicaland province.
Sakupwanya’s Better Brands company had been allocated 132 gold claims at Redwing Ming Company (RMC) under hazy circumstances.
Rival miners, the surrounding community and local advocacy groups were accusing Sakupwanya of having become the law unto himself by terrorising competitors and defying the police for causing extensive environmental damage at Redwing.
They reported that the gold miner claimed that the mining concessions he was running in Penhalonga belonged to President Mnangagwa.
Sakupwanya is a prominent member of the Affirmative Action Group, which is considered an elitist club of ruling ZANU PF sympathisers disguised as beneficiaries of black empowerment.
In early October, Information for Development Trust (IDT), working in collaboration with The Standard newspaper, reached out to Charamba over Sakupwanya’s alleged abuse of the president’s name and he threatened that namedroppers would “rot in jail”.

There has been a serious level of name-dropping by people who are trying to ride rough-shod over the law in the name of the leadership. We take a very dim view of such personalities and in the event that we catch up with them, those guys will rot in jail.
Tell that Sakupwanya that, really, he must look at his articles of association and see if the president is a shareholder (in Betterbrands).
A follow-up by Grazers News, the IDT online publication, established that the caretaker management at Redwing had resolved to stop Better Brands from operating at the goldfields.

In a letter dated 29 November 2021 that was addressed to Better Brands, Knowledge Hofisi, the Redwing interim corporate rescue manager, said he had replaced Sakupwanya’s company.
Duatlet Investments is now set to partner with Redwing, a subsidiary of Metallon Corporation that is domiciled in the UK. Part of the letter reads:
Accordingly, any and all mining activities that are being carried out by Better Brands Mining Company have been suspended and suppressed by the new arrangement and should therefore stop by end of business today. In other words they should immediately vacate RMC premises.
The local community also accused Sakupwanya of fuelling criminal cases in the area after he hired artisanal miners from Kwekwe to boost his operations.
The artisanal miners, commonly known as Mashurugwi, allegedly beat up rivals and went on a stealing spree in the area.
Previous investigations showed that Better Brands’ operations were in violation of Statutory Instrument (SI) 258 of 2018 Environmental Management (Control of Alluvial Mining) (Amendment) Regulations, which outlaws setting up washing plants, ore stockpiles, slime dams or mining ponds within 500 meters from river banks.

Mnangagwa Under Pressure To Fire Chadzamira

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF supporters in Masvingo last week passed a vote of no confidence to the Minister of State for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira, accusing the top politician of engaging in corruption activities.

The party supporters staged a demonstration at the Zanu PF provincial offices a day before Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s visit to the city last Friday for a clean-up campaign.

Zanu PF Women’s League members donning party regalia waved placards denouncing Chadzamira, accusing him of corruption and dividing the ruling party.

The minister, who doubles as the party’s provincial chairperson, stands accused of allocating land and mining claims to close allies while abusing his political muscle.

ZANU PF Masvingo provincial commissar Jevas Masosota confirmed there was a demonstration against Chadzamira but said the party was fully behind the embattled minister despite the shenanigans to soil his name.
He suggested that the demonstration could be connected to the upcoming ZANU PF provincial elections.

Chadzamira, a top ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was recently arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over alleged corruption.

However, the matter was dropped following the intervention of senior ZANU PF officials.
Reports suggest that there has been intense fighting between Chadzamira and his Vice-Chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa who is allegedly eyeing to take over the chairmanship post from Chadzamira.

Meanwhile, former ZANU PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu has warned that the opposition MDC Alliance will gain ground in the province if the intraparty fighting continues. He said:
The confusion in Masvingo Province is a big advantage to Chamisa, mukaita zvokutamba mukomana Masvingo unopinda akavhara kumeso chaiko. [Chamisa will easily take Masvingo if you continue fighting] This demonstrations must be solved nicely kwete zviya zvechibhinya bhinya [not violently], vatotanga kuti #NgaapindeHakeMukomana kumamisha hazviperi mushe. [the rural folks have already started chanting Chamisa’s slogan – NgaapindeHakeMukomana].

Earlier this year, war veterans staged another demonstration in Chiredzi against Chadzamira over the corrupt allocation of sugarcane plots in the Lowveld.

60 Inmates Escape From Prison

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has announced that 59 prisoners broke out of correctional facilities countrywide this year.

ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu announced this through the Sunday Mail and blamed his staff for the escapes.

“A total of 59 escapees have so far been recorded in 2021 as compared to 48 recorded over the same period in year 2020,” he said.
“However, notwithstanding such escape incidents, the ZPCS continues to conscientise its staff on the need to be vigilant during the call of duty.
Comm-Gen Chihobvu said over 2 000 prisoners have been infected with Covid-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic.
He said 90 percent of all prison officers have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

“As part of measures to contain its (the virus) spread, the ZPCS has been religiously following and adhering to both the WHO (World Health Organisation) and national guidelines and protocols to prevent the spread of this virus.”

COVID-LIKE-POISONING: Matemadanda Explains How It Was Done

EXCLUSIVE: Matemadanda- Medical Tests Confirm It Was A Poison, A Gas

  • I was forcing myself to be normal,
  • It was not an allergy
  • It was a gas
  • there is no one whose hand I shook. (21 Nov 2020 republished). VIDEO LOADING BELOW ..

ZimEye: vaMatemadanda

ZimEye: How are you feeling today?

ZimEye: Did you manage to get that doctor?

Matemadanda: I am still to contact him I was still trying to reach him.

ZimEye: Are you sure this was poison and was not an allergic reaction?

Matemadanda: Aaah, other tests indicate to that [effect].
ZimEye: They indicate to an allergy?

Matemadanda: No, to some poison.

ZimEye: Is there a name for the poison?

Matemadanda: Aaah, it’s a gas they said they will confirm for me by about Tuesday, I don’t know after analysing.
ZimEye: By Tuesday?
Matemadanda: It’s a gas which they are saying entered my body.

ZimEye: And you suppose that gas was released from the assailant’s palm?
Matemandanda: I did not see…it was so swift the person came saying they want to remove something from my cap. Upon that moment that is when I inhaled. At one time I thought they were removing an insect and it was the insect that was smelling, but I later realised that it something else when it began reacting.

ZimEye: And you smelt something strong upon that moment?

Matemadanda: Yes, yes, yes, right there. Not strong to the point of realising what it was.
Do you know these green insects [ zvipembenene]? So I thought that because we are now in November, ~I thought it was that insect.

ZimEye: It was a chipembenene on top of the cap?
Matemandanda: No, I did not see it. The man just said there is something on top of your cap, so I just assumed when I smelt the strong scent, as the man indicated.

ZimEye: And have you ever reacted to a chipembenene?

Matemadanda: Aah, no.

ZimEye: I am just assuming it was.

Matemadanda: Aaah, no. I think it was…It’s just that when it happened it was unexpected, I only realised upon recollection that on top of the cap there was nothing because I had just come out of the hall where the president was addressing. I did not go elsewhere. So I had only escorted him to the car.

ZimEye: So you had gone back to sit down?

Matemadanda: I did not even go back to sit down, I was now going to my own car, when I started feeling funny, I rushed to go sit inside the car. I felt a dizziness, what was like a flue, or something so I thought it was a reaction to the smell; I rushed to go into the car and said to my boys let’s go into the car. But it just continued getting worse, because there developed an element of hunger, so I told them go buy me some sadza at OK Supermarket there, but when I began eating that is when I started vomiting, so ….

ZimEye: But when this person came to touch you were sat down?

Matemandanda: No, President had finished addressing. That is when I escorted him to his car, to see him off, so when I left to go to my own car, that is when this man came saying: Cde there is something on top of your cap, so he opened his palm saying he is removing something; He was enlarging the veranda (of my cap), that is when I inhaled that gas, and I felt it was something unusual, there is an odour which I did not understand, but I was not quick to realise it could be something dangerous, that is when I thought ‘it is a chipembenene, I don’t know.’ But the reaction just developed gradually.

ZimEye: Do you think we could get video footage?

Matemadanda: Aaaah, because president had already left, and the camera people usually only focus on the president, I don’t know but I asked for them . I don’t know if we will find the footage.

ZimEye: Then suddenly you were now hungry; when was the last time you had had some food?

Matemadanda: I had breakfast, when I got to the meeting I had told myself I would not eat in public, but I drank water which I had carried with me to the meeting. And I did not eat anything, and there is no one whose hand I shook, and I did not drink any water there.

ZimEye: But this hunger you insist it came from that smell, that powder?

Matemadanda: I wouldn’t, me I am diabetic, but I am not (sic)…but when I became hungry, I never thought it was something abnormal, because hunger was not as extensive to the point where I would scream for food to be bought, normally I would ask to drive home to eat there.

But I actually bought sadza at OK, but I don’t know how it is connected, for to say what, I don’t know.

ZimEye: Suddenly you are confused?

Matemadanda: Yes, there was some lapsing like as if I want to sleep, or some confusion that is mild, such that if you force to gather strength it could come back, but some laziness suddenly became the order of the day.

ZimEye: And that came from that very moment just after the person had touched your cap, that is when you became confused?

Matemadanda: Aaaaah, I … it was sort of a gradual thing that was happening as I was moving and responding to this thing, but in the final analysis, I could see while walking it’s like I want to forget this and that. I could not make up how that was now happening. So I was forcing myself to be normal, but knowing that there is a dizziness, a confusion, what what what.

ZimEye: If ZBC had published or broadcast especially this statement on poison, do you feel that there would be a more diligent search to establish who did this?

Matemadanda: I had never…in fact I had never because what I know is that these things end up in some hands where a lot of speculation emerges. It might end up creating enemies for me because what happens is people start following scenarios and going …

Even vaChinamasa paya pavakataura (when he said) … I was saying it shouldn’t be a thing that is trying to confirm the speculation that is around. Because what I know is the narratives that will be drawn, will end up creating enmity with people unnecessarily. So even as it is now I was going to respond today, but I would not give them a statement, I don’t want.

ZimEye: You want to wait for the tests on Tuesday?

Matemadanda: I want to see, but all the same I am getting myself treated, so, I don’t see the need and use, otherwise it is just a learning curve where I should try and be more cautious; But otherwise I don’t want to be all hyper about it and the speculative reporting that is accompanying it because in the end there is nothing that it gives me, apart from people creating their narratives; if I once quarrelled with someone and so forth.

Bulawayo Police Officer Found Dead At A Local Bar

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo-based police officer was found dead in the early hours of Sunday with a deep cut on the back of the head and bruises in the mouth, raising suspicions that he was murdered.

The body of the law enforcement agent was found near Eyethu Sports Bar at Makoni Shopping Centre in Pumula South around 1.30 AM in an area where bar owners were allegedly routinely flouting COVID-19 lockdown measures by operating late into the night.

Residents who spoke to The Sunday News said gangs were patrolling the area and drinking beer at local bars late into the night.

They said the body was discovered by two officers who were on night patrol after a resident reported the matter to the police.

The police officers proceeded to check on the state of the body.

When they checked for a pulse on the neck and wrist, no pulse could be felt.

Upon discovering that the body was lifeless one of the officers went to the station to inform their superior.

He added that they managed to positively identify the body as that of their colleague.

The body had a deep cut at the back of the head on the right side and bruises on the mouth, said the officer.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had not yet commented on the matter.

I Am Ready To End Decades Of Poverty – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has assured members of the security forces that they will not lose their jobs in the new and democratic Zimbabwe.

According to President Chamisa, only the failed Zanu PF leadership will be replaced.

The People’s President made the remarks at the unveiling of Gogo Chamisa’s tombstone in Chiwara, Gutu.

“The army, police and CIOs are patriotic civil servants. We will not replace the security forces- rather we will remove the failed Zanu PF political leadership.

” We will improve the conditions of service for security forces.

Why should a member of the security forces retire without a house? A soldier or police officer’s welfare is a reflection of the government’s concern about its workers,” said President Chamisa.

He added:” I am ready to lead… I am ready to deliver jobs to the young people…I am ready to deliver proper healthcare services.

I am ready to lead the nation… I am ready to end decades of poverty and suffering.

Court Rules: CZI Boss Harassed Own PA

Former Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) chief executive Farai Zizhou has been ordered to pay US$180 000 damages for sexually harassing his former personal assistant, Rita Marque Mbatha in a case that has dragged on for nearly two decades.

Since 2003, Mbatha has been pursuing the sexual harassment case against her former boss, which happened during her employment with CZI.

Mbatha worked for CZI from 2002 before she quit in 2003 alleging that Zizhou had made sexual advances at her on several occasions.

In his ruling last Friday, High Court judge Justice Martin Mafusire praised Mbatha for seeking justice against all odds.

Mbatha is now a human rights advocate.

“She has been to arbitration. She has been to the Supreme Court. She is back to this court. She strives for closure. Any lesser mortal would probably have given up. Plainly, Mbatha is no lesser mortal. Her tenacity and fighting spirit have moved mountains. She is still fighting. This judgment only settles her case. The other half still continues,” Justice Mafusire said.

“Taking all factors into account, it is considered that the proper level of damages for the sexual harassment perpetrated by the first defendant upon the plaintiff during the period of the plaintiff’s employment with the second defendant from September 2002 to June 2003 is US$180 000, or the equivalent thereof in local currency, convertible at the inter-market bank rate at the time of payment,” he said.

Justice Mafusire also ordered Zhizhou to pay the costs of the lawsuit.

In her testimony before the courts, Mbatha pointed out that sexual harassment of females employed at CZI was rampant, adding that Zizhou was the sole culprit.

In his judgment, Justice Mafusire said Mbatha’s dismissal in July 2003 after she reported Zizhou for sexual harassment was unfair.

“He took revenge. The charges were inappropriate, touching, unwelcome offensive jokes, invitation by innuendo to an inappropriate sexual relationship, receiving offensive telephone messages, receiving pornography on the computer, an attempt to kiss by force, causing an injury on the thigh in the process of resisting,” Mafusire said.

Evidence given before the courts also showed that Zizhou pestered Mbatha to give in to his sexual demands despite the fact that they were both married.

Some of Zizhou’s offensive emails to Mbatha were exhibited before the courts.

“You have just completed your probation and according to CZ1 rules, you are not eligible for the general increase for permanent staff, but the small adjustment that is in your appointment letter I am bending the rule — for you, please hold on tight to me — if we crash, we crash together. I am awarding you the same percentage increase as everybody else. I am defending it against the treasurer this morning. Doing so will cost CZI an extra $3 million in employment and other costs for the three people involved,” Zizhou said in one of the emails to Mbatha.

“….You are the love of my life. I will do anything for you,” read one of the emails.

In March 2014, Mbatha sought arbitration and the tribunal found that she was unfairly dismissed and sexually harassed.

Psychiatric reports obtained from Mbatha’s doctors noted that she was traumatised by the experience.

Justice Mafusire ruled that as a result of the sexual harassment, Mbatha suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder and had to undergo counselling.

“She suffered physical and emotional pain which scarcely suppressed anger. During the counselling sessions, she would lose track of her answers midway through and would ask that questions be repeated,” the judgment read.

The court also heard that after she was fired, she had to sell immovable property to cater for medical bills and the general upkeep of her family.

“The plaintiff’s case seems such a textbook case. Manifestly, no amount of money seems adequate to compensate for her loss,” Justice Mafusire said, adding that the law should not pay lip service and must mete out stiff penalties to deter would-be offenders. -Newsday

Mwonzora Heads for GNU- I Want To Be Prime Minister

By Dorrothy Moyo | The court-doctored party MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has announced he wants a government of national unity.

Last year Mwonzora who has battled distancing himself from Emerson Mnangagwa, denied he is aiming for a unity government, and said at the time:

“In those chats, an impression is being created that I am in discussions with the government to form a Government of National Unity in which I will be Prime Minister.

“The chats are fake and malicious.

“For the record, my goal is not to be Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.

Mwonzora caricature

“My dream is to see a just and prosperous Zimbabwe where people make their political choices freely and without fear. A Zimbabwe free of political acrimony and rancour. The screenshots being circulated are just fake, cheap and malicious. Unintelligently done.

But speaking over his latest tours, Mwonzora said his structures have opted for unity with ZANU PF leader Emerson Mnangagwa.

https://youtu.be/YQOsJIKPSZ0

Warriors Star Ends Goal Drought

David Moyo has ended his goal-drought after netting Hamilton Academical’s solitary strike in the home victory against Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship.

The Warriors international netted the goal from the spot in the 65th minute to hand his side its first set of maximum points in five games.

Moyo had last found the back of the net in October, and the latest strike takes his league tally to two goals this season thus far.

Elsewhere, Admiral Muskwe came off the bench and registered an assist for Luton Town in the English Championship.

The Zimbabwean featured for the final thirteen minutes of the 3-0 win at Blackpool and created Luton’s third goal right on the stroke of fulltime.

Muskwe is yet to score in the league and the assist is his first since arriving at Luton in the pre-season.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Remembering Dewa Mavhinga

By Maureen Kademaunga

The first time I saw you, 13 years ago, I was due to speak on period poverty at a Dignity Period Campaign Rally at Trafalgar Square, London.

I was young, inexperienced and obviously nervous but you patiently coached me on how best to deliver my message with passion.

On the same day you told me two things about yourself that always intrigued me; that you were a feminist and that you had once worked for a women’s organisation – both facts were very strange phenomena to my then young mind.

On 19 November of 2017, I shared a platform with you in Johannesburg where we spoke strongly against building the blocks of a Zimbabwean democracy on the foundation of a coup; but unlike Trafalgar, there was no pre-coaching yet your small nodes as I spoke were so assuring and took me back to the first day I met you. It was then that I realised how you had always been there since Trafalgar Sq, offering gentle and sober mentorship, like the big brother that you were to all.

Security Roadblocks To Chamisa’s Home – A Sign Of Desperation

_I have never seen a roadblock of that magnitude in a rural area even in urban areas or highways. The roadblock which was at Chiwara(Gutu) turnoff along Mupandawana–Roy road. There were police officers who numbered about 10 .There were about 6 soldiers.A very good number in causal attire…suspected they might be CIOs.There were AK47 which I did not count. The road to Chiwara which goes to MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa’s rural home was barricaded with spikes. The spikes were of high standard and about half a metre in width. Some civilian registered vehicles were parked in bushes about 50 metres away from the roadblock. Only during the war of liberation i have seen Ian Douglas Smith’s roadblock was of such standard. Mnangagwa must be in panic .Chamisa is giving the regime sleepless nights. The organization of such high level security roadblock demands high level of planning and time consuming. The people who were traveling to Gogo Chamisa’s tombstone unveiling were shocked by such mental sickness of the regime to fight a weaponless Chamisa.

Herald Blows Up 425 Words Anonymously Claiming Dangote Wants To Meet Mnangagwa

The government-owned mouthpiece, the Herald newspaper, has blown 425 words claiming that Africa’s richest person, Aliko Dangote Wants to meet ZANU PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

CAPE TOWNSOUTH AFRICA, 06MAY11 – Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, Nigeria, during the African Fellowship Programe with Young Global Leaders announcement at the World Economic Forum on Africa 2011 held in Cape Town, South Africa, 4-6 May 2011.
Copyright (cc-by-sa) © World Economic Forum (www.weforum.org/Photo Matthew Jordaan [email protected]

The paper says Dangote wishes to invest in Zimbabwe and had planned to meet Zimbabwe authorities at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) on an undisclosed date in Durban, South Africa.

Dangote ditched Zimbabwe after his first high-profile visit to Zimbabwe in October 2015, when he met the then President Robert Mugabe.

The article however fails the test of tracing as it cites anonymous sources. It also fails to name even a single person over a whole 6-year waiting period.

Dangote was at the time of his first visit, interested in the construction of a US$400 million cement plant in the country.

“As soon as we get things right, we will move. We are not here looking to invest. We have already made up our minds to invest so we are here and we will invest,” Dangote said at the time.

But close to six years later, Dangote is yet to set up shop in the country. He is, however, still interested in investing in Zimbabwe according to members of his staff that were attending IATF.

The business mogul had planned to meet with President Mnangagwa in person on the sidelines of the IATF in Durban.

The passing of his brother Sani Dangote, however, forced him to cancel the trip.

“He is very much interested in investing in Zimbabwe and was planning to meet Zimbabwean authorities on the sidelines of IATF.

“All the preparatory work had been done. The plan was that if President Mnangagwa was to attend IATF then Dangote himself would come.

“Unfortunately bereavement in his family made the trip impossible,” said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Sani Dangote, who died on November 14, 2021 after a brief illness in the United States, was the group vice-president of Dangote Industries Limited.

While the Dangote deal was previously linked to setting up a cement plant, the sources said there was more to the Dangote group than just cement.

“We have realised that most people associate the Dangote group’s investment in Zimbabwe with setting up a cement plant, but there is more to the group than just cement.

“We should start thinking about how we can benefit from the value chains across the Group.

“There is already a cement plant in Zambia, we could think about increasing coal supplies to that,” said the source.

There is also the Dangote Sugar Refinery, how do we benefit from the associated value chain?” the source asked.

Dangote Industries Limited is a diversified and fully integrated conglomerate with vibrant operations in Nigeria and Africa across a wide range of sectors including cement, sugar, salt, condiments, packaging, energy, port operations, fertilizer, and petrochemicals.

Its core business focus is to provide local, value-added products and services that meet the ‘basic needs of the populace through the construction and operation of large-scale manufacturing facilities in Nigeria and across Africa. – state media / additional reporting

Omicron Variant Is Upon Us, Doctors Warn Nation

Zimbabwe’s senior doctors have called for vigilance as the country braces for the fourth wave of the Covid-19 outbreak driven by the newly discovered Omicron variant.

The Omicron variant was first detected in South Africa and Botswana causing panic throughout the world.

Western countries last week banned travel from southern Africa, including Zimbabwe, citing the emergence of the variant.

On Friday, Health and Child Care deputy minister John Mangwiro said Zimbabwe had reported 50 cases of the Omicron variant.

The Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) said citizens must strictly adhere to World Health Organisation (WHO) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In a press statement, ZCPHP, an association of specialist public health doctors, said the surge in cases in the past few days was a cause for concern.

The doctors urged all citizens to double up physical distancing, wear face masks, and wash their hands.

Added the doctors:
Get vaccinated urgently against Covid-19, vaccines save lives.

ZCPHP also urged Zimbabweans to avoid or reduce non-essential travel and visits, to minimize interactions with people from other households.

It encouraged healthcare practitioners to increase the level of clinical suspicion/presumption of Covid-19, and look out for patients who are potentially sick with Covid-19.

Hopewell Chin’ono on Dewa Mavhinga: Roth Says COVID Doesn’t Consume Someone So Fast.

OPINION: Haapinde Mukomana As Chamisa Misfires.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The “ Ngaapinde hake Mukomana campaign” song for MDCA has hit the heights in psyching the mood to prepare for the 2023 harmonised elections. The lyrics are great and the message is a ringing endorsement for the coronation of “King Nelson.”So the blind and deaf among us are dancing to the off tune song and falling for the traitors’ sweet nothings to a tune that is mocking them.

A slogan is a memorable motto or phrase used in a clan, political, commercial, religious, and other context as a repetitive expression of an idea or purpose, with the goal of persuading members of the public or a more defined target group. The Oxford Dictionary of English defines a slogan as “a short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising.A slogan usually has the attributes of being memorable, very concise and appealing to the audience.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

Whether you work for a startup, own a small business, or are on the marketing team for a big corporation, a great slogan tells your customers your mind and what you will be offering them should you succeed in you campaign.
So the Ngaapinde hake Mukomana is a retired call with signs of dejection and rejection. It makes it very clear that the aim of the whole party is only to be at state house and nothing more.
A slogan is a simple and memorable catchphrase that draws an audience to a particular brand or product. The MDC Chamisa did not hide their aim. They have nothing to offer to Zimbabwe but just to seek a way up to the top with no regards to the people. We all know that effective slogan is a key component of successful marketing along with your logo and brand name.
The MDC slogan its a descriptive slogan: A descriptive slogan describes what your business does or what it can offer to potential customers in a memorable phrase. So all we can see here is an emotional or Emotive slogan. Emotive slogans leverage your product or service as a way to give your audience a particular feeling or fulfill an emotional need—like relaxation, connection, joy, or excitement. Ngaapinde hake Mukomana is very clear that once the mukomana is inside there will be no other allowed even to try to be near. The slogan then becomes a stark warning to Zimbabweans that Mukomana is a mere thief eying the most high seat in the land. The Ngaapinde hake Munomana becomes an emotive and Persuasive slogans. A persuasive slogan attempts to convince your customers that your brand or products can help them solve a particular problem. So the question is What problems can be solved by simply asking a boy to come in. The absence of reason and nothing to offer shows that the change MDC is asking for is just to gain power. This is a selfish but a clear warning that one must run very fast away from those digging in party obsessed by power.
A slogan is a brief and indelible phrase that encompasses an offering’s appeal. MDC has clearly shown that they do not have the best interest of the people at hesrt
Slogans are always defined as “short and brief”. There exists a psychological rationale for this – it is believed that it takes almost 7 seconds to form a first impression. Short-term memory is shorter than you think! Therefore, slogans ought to be “short and brief and meaningful. The later is absent in the MDC slogan.
Lastly, the definition terms slogans as a phrase “that encompasses an offering’s appeal”. A slogan is essentially an invitation toward your offering. The invitation, therefore, must encapsulate your product or your brand vision or your service’s benefits, etc. It should be an independent, brief and holistic phrase. But the MDC has simply shown the nation that they do not care about people but power.
Why should anyone in their rightful mind promote a proponent of sanctions. Chamisa and Biti are the high priests for sponsoring and authoring Zidera, the American law for sanctions. The song is proclaiming “the great leader” to march to Statehouse to govern. What a sorry state. Lest we forget, “The red on the flag of Zimbabwe is not mere colour coding, but a stark reminder that it is through blood that we paid for our freedom”. It is common cause that the western powers were incensed by the land redistribution we embarked on in the 1990’s and are still pushing on.
It is also common knowledge that the process was not smooth, be it by design or by default. That part of the revolution would never be smooth nor peaceful. Remember, the events of the late 1990s are nothing compared to frog marching the landlords into slavery while driving them from their heritage. Diabolic! In their desperate effort to reverse the gains of the revolution the western powers always try to create chaos and division. The language of democracy has taken centre stage in the quest to subvert the government. Traitors have been there and history has so many and we are not spared of such in this day. So a partnership of evil amongst the western manipulators and the desperate opposition are now acting judge and prosecutor for “the fit for governance test.” What a mockery of the very democracy they have failed. Who was judging western rule in colonies and slave trade? Why are the perpetrators of evil refereeing governance. Our democracy cannot be sacrificed on the alter of western dogma. Zimbabwe refuses to submit to the whims of white supremacy. To the extent that after the events of 2017 that saw the former president leave office Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti posed on the steps of Congress at Capitol Hill as they pleaded for sanctions against Zimbabwe. Well, the objective was to weaken the government of Zimbabwe and pave the way for regime change through social strife.
Sanctions against Zimbabwe have decimated livelihoods, infrastructure and the economic challenges Zimbabwe faces are largely on the back of the punitive sanctions sponsored by the high priests for national chaos led by Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti. So any mention of “Ngaapinde” is tantamount to insanity. It is like allowing a rapist to marry the rape product. We cannot allow the perpetrators to feast on the suffering they have caused. The criminals must be tried and not honoured. Kana vakapinda kunosunga ma sanctions ngavagare ikoko kumasanctions mu Zimbabwe havapindi.

Fearless Cde – Dhewa Mavhinga | Obituary

Today I am an angry man. The last time I was this angry was when our father Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirayi died. I am angry because Dhewa Mavhinga was a fighter, a fearless warrior, the best we had in the civic society. I’m angry because we are one brave soldier short in the struggle.

I remember when he came to Washington DC to testify before the US Senate- brave, vociferous, unperturbed, blunt with the regime yet remaining truthful and factual.

He churned out before the world shocking statistics of human rights abuses by Zanu PF without blinking an eye, fearless and oblivious of what the regime could do to him. He represented the people well – he spoke on behalf of the muzzled millions – He stood with the people of Zimbabwe . He defended the people like he always did as he was always on the side of the People! What a man!

A year later we were to interact again in Johannesburg. One phone call and the appointment had been made to meet at his offices despite his busy schedule and the short notice. He was a very humble and down to earth, an intellectual, a fundi, a smart lawyer who would converse with you in eloquent Shona, deep Shona rich with tsumo, madimikira and nyaudzosingwi. You would marvel at how the man was so articulate in both Shona and English . Check his Facebook page and see how he wrote fluently in Shona.

See his last post on varoyi and mhondi as if he was for telling his death. Did he knew his fate? Of course as a big critic of the regime he was always “an enemy of the state” hence a target . Did he knew the “ devil /varoyi/mhondi were after him. He wrote a few days before his death, “ …..kunobata nguva dzerunyanhiriri wakaipa anenge ari pakupota-pota. Vaya vetsero nemapere vanenge vovhimira kuenda kuti vasayedzerwe vasina kudzimba. Ndiwaya mashambanzou mukai tinamate“ literally translated it would be , “ … in the early hours of the morning that’s the time the enemy is most active -The witches and the bad guys will be going for the final kill – the wee mornings are dangerous times so wake up and let us pray. ”

The Shona used by Dhewa was pregnant with many meanings. Did he knew “ wakaipa” ( bad guys) were coming after him. “ …. Vasayedzerwa vasina kudzimba” ( so it’s not time before they eliminate the target) Did he mean that “ wakaipa (the bad guys) were obliged to finish off someone before day break/ before time. Only Mavhinga knows what he meant because only him knew what he was seeing and what he was feeling at the time of writing that post. All I know is he was a pain in the back of the ED Mnangagwa regime- he was one of ED’s biggest critique and ED doesn’t like critiques. He assassinates critics using everything the Russians taught him.

Either way Cde Dhewa, we will finish this struggle in your honour and in honour of many others that have been assassinated before you. Rest In Power my brother!

Zimbabwe shall be free and we shall live freely ever after without fear of the “leaders” .
