By- A 40-year-old Catholic priest has died in a suspected suicide in Rusape.
Father Tapiwa Muchenagumbo allegedly drank an unidentified pesticide at St Killian’s Mission. Investigations are still underway.
Close sources revealed the late Fr Muchenagumbo made several desperate calls to fellow priests before his death. “We now wait for post mortem and see what the doctor’s report will reveal. “Police say they’ll also wait for the report to assist in their investigations, they’ll also ask close people like the maid, and all. “An official announcement of the funeral proceedings will be made by the church very soon.
“We cannot rule out anything, however, Father Muchenagumbo was a calm priest and we just heard he even made some payments yesterday to the mechanic, who was fixing his car,” revealed the source. Mutare Bishop’s Secretary, Reverend Father Vincent Chidodo, confirmed the incident. “Dear Priests, Deacons, Brothers, Sisters and the Laity. “The Diocese of Mutare sadly announces the untimely death of Rev. Fr Tapiwa Abraham Muchenagumbo at Makoni Rural Clinic (Rugoi Clinic) this morning, Thursday 27 January, 2022. “May his soul rest in eternal peace. “Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course,” read the Church statement.
According to the theology of the Catholic Church, death by suicide is a grave matter. The Church holds that one’s life is the property of God, and to destroy that life is to wrongly assert dominion over God’s creation. However, suicide cases involving the clergy have been reported over the years. Seven years ago, Catholic priest, Father Batsirai Marimbe, who was based at Gweru Diocese Cathedral Church, committed suicide by taking poison. His body was found at Mutapa Cemetery in Gweru. In 2013, another Catholic Priest Father Agrippa Semende, died when he threw himself onto a moving haulage truck along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road. There were reports he had been battling an undisclosed illness for some time. Six years ago, Tatenda Brandon Masenga (23) who was a Carmelite, gulped an unknown poison, and was pronounced dead on admission at Marondera Provincial Hospital.
In April of 2014, Catholic nun, Sister Getrude Sunduza, committed suicide at a Convent in Masvingo Diocese.
By- NORTON legislator, Themba Mliswa, and his estranged girlfriend, Cynthia Mugwira, have been given a one-week ultimatum to try and find common ground.
Mliswa and the Harare lawyer have been in constant court battles over the upkeep of their two minor children. In 2016, Mliswa was ordered to pay $8 000 as maintenance for the two minor children. However, the two clashed over choice of preferred school with the politician opting for a government institution while Mugwira wanted a private school. The two were back in court yesterday and appeared before Justices Emilia Muchawa and Neville Wamambo, who urged them to consider the needs of their children. “We are giving both parties up to February 4th to find each other and file their consent in the form of a draft order. “Failure to do this, the court will be left to reserve its judgment. “We also urge parties to put their petty differences aside and consider the needs of the minor children first,” ruled the judges. Has the Zimbabwe National Army’s brand ambassador, Mukudzei Mukombe joined Nelson Chamisa? Not quite. But even though the below picture was re-edited from a 2020 photograph (as ZimEye reveals here) to make it appear as if the Jah Prayzah is now a Nelson Chamisa supporter, activists used it on Friday to encourage their fellows to back the newly formed baby, which the singer himself had not objected at the time of writing.
By- Five opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists, including one pedestrian, were arrested by the police in Harare, allegedly for blocking a pavement and disturbing the flow of human traffic in central Harare.
The activists were charged for public nuisance but they claimed that they were arrested for wearing their party’s yellow T-shirts.
Early this week, the Nelson Chamisa-led CCC abandoned its MDC Alliance name and red colour and unveiled yellow as its official colour.
Human rights lawyer Lynnet Phiri said the six were released after paying a fine of $2 000 each for obstruction of traffic. He said:
They have been released. They paid a $2 000 fine. Right now, we are taking Erasmus (Nyandoro) who was assaulted by the police on Thursday to the hospital with the assistance of the Counselling Services Unit.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Sibiza decried the arrest of the party activists, describing them as “a clear reflection of how the State wants to restrict dissenting voices.”
However, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi disputed the claims, saying the six had committed a crime by blocking a pavement along Julius Nyerere Way and Robert Mugabe Avenue. He said:
It is really unfortunate that people run to social media and post about yellow regalia.
They were arrested for blocking a pavement as they were chanting party slogans, so the police intervened and others ran away while some were arrested.
So the arrest has truly nothing to do with their regalia.
Police in Harare on Thursday arrested five opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists, including one pedestrian, on a charge of public nuisance, but they claimed they were nabbed for wearing their party’s yellow T-shirts.
Police confirmed the arrest, saying the opposition members were arrested for blocking a pavement and disturbing flow of human traffic in central Harare.
Early this week, the Nelson Chamisa-led CCC party unveiled yellow as its official colour.
Human rights lawyer Lynnet Phiri said the six were released after paying a fine of $2 000 each for disorderly conduct.
“They have been released. They paid a $2 000 fine. Right now, we are taking Erasmus (Nyandoro) who was assaulted by the police on Thursday to the hospital with the assistance of the Counselling Services Unit,” Phiri said.
The 6 CCC members arrested on Thursday for wearing yellow t-shirts have been fined ZWL2000 each.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Sibiza condemned the arrest of the party activists.
“The arrest of our youth leaders who were wearing yellow is a clear reflection of how the State wants to restrict descending voices. You cannot criminalise yellow,” he said.
“It is a reflection of a brighter future for the people of Zimbabwe and it is a clear sign that the regime has no strategy on how to deal with the new.”
But national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi disputed the claims, saying the six had blocked a pavement along Julius Nyerere Way and Robert Mugabe Avenue.
“It is really unfortunate that people run to social media and post about yellow regalia,” Nyathi said.
“They were arrested for blocking a pavement as they were chanting party slogans, so the police intervened and others ran away while some were arrested. So the arrest has truly nothing to do with their regalia.”

Condolence Message by the Acting President, Hon. Gen. (Retd) Dr C. G. D. N. Chiwenga ‘GCZM’, following the death of Cde Jetro Dauramanzi, 28th January 2022 It was with a deep sense of shock and grief that I learnt of the untimely demise on Wednesday afternoon of the late Cde Jetro Dauramanzi, at Parirenyatwa Hospital, following a short illness.
Born on 15th April 1931, the late Cde Dauramanzi belongs to the early crop of our nationalists who pioneered our early resistance and struggles against colonialism and imperialism.
As a senior member of ZAPU then, and like many of his colleagues in the struggle for our national Independence, he too endured long periods in jail and detention centres for supporting our armed liberation struggle.
He was persecuted by the Rhodesians for the role he played in organising African Trade Unionism and political activism.
As the armed liberation struggle intensified, so were his heroic efforts at mobilising material resources for our freedom fighters as well as for the welfare of the families they had left behind.
After our Independence in 1980, the late nationalist continued his political journey as a member of the Central Committee of the then ZAPU and has been a member of the National Consultative Assembly of the ruling party, ZANU PF, since the merger of PF ZAPU and ZANU PF following the Unity Accord of 1987.
In spite of the persecution he went through, Cde Dauramanzi remained a loyal and patriotic citizen of our motherland, Zimbabwe.
He was a true revolutionary cadre who shall sorely be missed by all of us who had the privilege of working closely with him and many others whose lives he touched in so many different ways.
On behalf of His Excellency the President, Dr E D Mnangagwa, our Nation, and my own behalf, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the Dauramanzi family, especially to his wife, Gogo Oripa and the children, who have lost a beloved husband, father and mentor.
May they derive solace from the rich legacy he has left behind, and be comforted by the knowledge that the nation grieves with them.
Following consultations with His Excellency the President, Dr E D Mnangagwa, the late Jetro Dauramanzi, will be granted a State-assisted funeral.

By -A faction of the opposition MDC-T led by suspended party deputy president Thokozani Khupe has demanded funding from the State under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.
This comes after Treasury released $149 million (about US$1.3 million at the official exchange rate) for the MDC-T under the Act.
According to an Extra-Ordinary Government Gazette released on Thursday, ZANU PF received $350 million and the MDC-T got $149 million.
Under the Political Parties (Finance) Act, a political party that receives at least 5% of the vote in an election is entitled to State funding. The MDC-T however, received less than 5% of the 2018 election vote.
The other MDC-T faction is led by Douglas Mwonzora who has been at loggerheads with the Khupe outfit in recent times.
Speaking to NewsDay yesterday, MDC-T (Khupe) spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said:What the people of Zimbabwe must understand is that the money is for the MDC-T party. Mwonzora has formed his own party, the MDC Alliance. The money is for the MDC-T. The Supreme Court judgment made it clear that the MDC Alliance is not a political party, so we are expecting the money to be given to the MDC-T party.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) (formerly MDC Alliance) treasurer-general David Coltart the money should go to the MDC Alliance or no one. ZIFA Extraordinary Congress, which is scheduled for this Saturday.
The world football gorvening body says the planned event violates ZIFA statutes as the councillors who convened the meeting did not follow due process.
The Executive Committee are the ones empowered to convene such a congress if one-third of the councillors make a request.
At least 27 members of the congress last month requested for an EGM, accussing the Felton Kamambo-led board of maladminstration.
In a letter addressed to ZIFA secretary Joseph Mamutse, FIFA chief member association officer Kenny Jean-Marie wrote:
“We (have) recently been informed that on 3 January 2022, some Zifa members have called for an extraordinary congress which is apparently due to take place on 29 January 2022.
“In this respect, we would like to refer you to art.28,2 of the current Zifa statutes (2013 edition).
“Accordingly, we are of the opinion that Zifa’s executive committee must be given the time foreseen in the Zifa statutes to convene the requested extraordinary congress (ie up until 3 April 2022) before the Zifa members can lawfully convene it themselves. In other words, we consider that the relevant Zifa members are not entitled to convene the extraordinary congress themselves on 29 January, as this would contravene the abovementioned statutory provisions.
“Therefore, we kindly ask you to inform the said Zifa members and the executive committee about the foregoing so that the relevant measures can be taken on both sides.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
By A Correspondent | The case in which CCC supporter William Chinyanga is on trial on charges of inciting terrorism in Zimbabwe, flopped on Friday morning when the jury deadlocked on reaching a verdict.
The case will now go for a retrial or for the prosecutors to determine whether to re launch it.
https://youtu.be/YjREGddTA2I
The judge, the prosecutors and police officers were openly challenged in court by ZimEye’s Simba Chikanza who alleged that they are abusing the justice system to promote real terrorism in Zimbabwe, the very same charges they are trying Chinyanga for.
Chinyanga is on trial for incitement to terrorism over utterances he made after being personally threatened with military level violence (bombings, shootings and beatings) by UK based ZANU PF terrorists, and 3 months later later just after CCC President Nelson Chamisa suffered a live ammunition attack in Marondera on 1 Dec 2019.
It is the Defendant’s case that he was simply jesting back the same strong language flung at him and his colleagues, other opposition activists.
A twelve member jury on Friday morning failed to deliver their verdict following several resits since Tuesday.
https://youtu.be/Fzm0DFmdNFs
….
The ZimEye news network waged a fight against prosecutors due to the overwhelming evidence that the case is nothing other than an attempt to abuse the British Justice system to generate fake news in Zimbabwe which in turn promotes real terrorism and genocide in Zimbabwe.
At the beginning of the hearing last Wednesday, one of police officers who arrested William Chinyanga sped out of court upon spotting Simba Chikanza in the premises to acknowledge to him that he has truly received phonecalls over the nearly 2 year period, and (while sounding out as if he has been interested in hearing further witness evidence) claimed saying he telephoned back in 2019 but there was no voice mail facility to take in messages. There was confusion when he at the same time demanded that Chikanza should not be allowed to testify, saying the interpreter is enough to give witness evidence.
Chikanza asked how possible that was for his official phone to fail to go into voicemail, something that can be proven with the network provider, and why the officer failed to send text messages. The officer said he does not send text messages, to which Chikanza charged saying there is far more communication to the officer in the form of emails and physical visits to police stations, plus link ups with police, prosecutors, and even the Attorney General.
The officer left to go back into court saying he will liaise with the Defence Barrister. An hour later, the court security said they would allow Chikanza into the court gallery to which the latter refused saying it could thereby jeopardize his ability to be a witness as stated earlier. Chikanza walked away and decided to spend the court days outside premises until he is called to be a witness.
There was chaos on Tuesday afternoon at the end of trial, Chikanza, lifted his hand to request permission to speak. Chikanza introduced himself as the journalist who police have been avoiding for 2 years, and questioned why as he alleged, clear direct evidence of direct threats of military violence against Chinyanga has been avoided.
He pointed towards Chinyanga’s lawyers who have this evidence which he said does not take seconds of time to understand.
The trial continued with Chinyanga not being allowed witnesses, despite him confessing on numerous times that he has speech problems among other difficulties.
When the judge began stopping him, Chikanza continued talking and ended up drowning the courtroom as he charged saying the British Courts should not be used to promote fake news which triggers genocide. He said the judge should protect human life than persecute innocent victims.
Afterwards, the judge referred the case for retrial, which also means the prosecution has to go back to the drawing board.
It is Chikanza’s position that the case should never have been prepared in the first place because according to him the Defendant is clearly a victim of ZANU PF terrorists based in UK who are the complainants and yet they are the ones who not only threatened Chinyanga with the same terroristic announcements, but executed it in Zimbabwe and overthrew the constitutionally elected government of Nelson Chamisa on the 1st August 2018.
Chikanza was handed a ban for disrupting the trial, but swiftly announced to court security personnel that the paper is “rubbish” which he will get quickly get dismissed at the High Court.
The following morning he made an official report and a complaint to the senior judges responsible for the old Bailey.
Chikanza also has a track record of successful application of terorrism law including saving 18 million citizens of Zambia from terrorism through one early morning interview in August 2021. In October 2019, he participated in registering the prosecution of Zimbabwe’s Speaker Of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda following a Sunday morning interview in Belgrade Serbia. Over the years, he has a history of being the only journalist to contront and interview every military general during brutal military crackdowns, since Robert Mugabe days. He also participated in exposing corruption during the Motlanthe Commission-quasi-court over the 1 August 2018 crackdown, and in 2019, he flew to Davos, Switzerland to confront and interview politicians over the Jan 2019 crackdowns.
STATEMENT: As part of the legal defence system for Chinyanga, we had to engage a US based lawyer, Tapiwa Kapurura who worked so hard to uncover various technical loopholes on the case paving way for the benefit of doubt on the allegations.
Also contributing among others, was the abducted activist, Itai Dzamara’s lawyer, Kennedy Masiye.
Cervical cancer is preventable and curable, as long as it is detected early and managed effectively.
Yet it is the fourth most common form of cancer among women worldwide, with the disease claiming the lives of more than 300 000 women in 2018.
Few diseases reflect global inequities as much as cancer of the cervix. Nearly 90% of the deaths in 2018 occurred in low- and middle-income countries. This is where the burden of cervical cancer is greatest, because access to public health services is limited and screening and treatment for the disease have not been widely implemented.
An ambitious, concerted and inclusive strategy has been developed to guide the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem.
A global strategy In May 2018, the WHO Director-General announced a global call for action to eliminate cervical cancer, underscoring renewed political will to make elimination a reality and calling for all stakeholders to unite behind this common goal.
In August 2020 the World Health Assembly adopted the Global Strategy for cervical cancer elimination.
Now is the time to act to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.
Achieving elimination To eliminate cervical cancer, all countries must reach and maintain an incidence rate of below four per 100 000 women. Achieving that goal rests on three key pillars and their corresponding targets:
Vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15; Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45; Treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed. Each country should meet the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 to get on the path to eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.
Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa’s so called new dispensation has failed to repair the Gutu- Buhera Road for the past four years.
Mr Mnangagwa’s followers view him as a political saint but the pathetic state of the Gutu- Buhera Road indicates that the Zanu PF leader’s administration is incompetent, political analysts have said.
“This is Gutu -Buhera road.. tatambura Tokumbirawo rubatsiro kubva kuhurumende kana ma non governmental organizations,” a Gutu resident said.
“The road has not been repaired for the past four years. The regime is just useless. We know that these people want our votes. They are not concerned about our welfare, ” fumed a Gutu villager who declined to be named.

Investigative journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono jokingly slapped down Norton MP Temba Mliswa on Friday over his accuser Susan Mutami who says she recently gave birth to Mliswa’s twins.
Hopewell Chin’ono
Recent developments have exposed that she only has one child, and another investigation by this news network reveals that she has bedded scores of ministers and ZANU PF leaders.
Following the ZimEye investigation, Mliswa complained while asking Mutami over her pictures which show only one child. To this Chinono said, what’s important is that Susan is wearing yellow, Nelson Chamisa’s new party colour. FULL TWEET

By A Correspondent | INVESTIGATIVE | Just as ZimEye exclusively revealed in 2021, Zanu PF informer and socialite Susan Mutami has come out into the public with one only child, contrary to previous claims that she has twins with Norton Law-maker Temba Mliswa.
Last year, the controversial Australia-based Mutami went to town claiming that she was having torrid times with pregnancy carrying Mliswa’s twins.
ZimEye.com early 2021 exposed Mutami’s several bedroom scandals, which included government ministers and top Army Generals.
1/ Ko, Mai MaTwins (?), @susan_mutami balance me here. When all is said&done, I don’t want to act irresponsibly, so in the spirit of tidying up affairs, we all need closure&a positive way forward. I’m a bit confused though, do you really have twins?(Pic courtesy from your handle) pic.twitter.com/iJUAfliciB
2/ I’ve only ever received one birth registration form for one child, you had the same one sent at 2 different times on the same day, look at the reg #. In your pics you only ever have one with you, in this pic, there’s only one child seat. Saka Susan, imwe Shumba iripi? pic.twitter.com/IS1sxezgYr
3/ Inga the form clearly says what to do in the event of twins. Huuya tiite DNA, then kana vari(ari) wangu, Shumba ngadzipinde mudanga! Asi are you claiming only one is mine and the other is someone else’s?….(no photoshop please) the ball is in your court to clear this up…
The below is a trail of event twists that involved high profile ministers caught between two scandals, one on the sale of stands, and one of trappings using a self proclaimed anti-terrorism expert, Susan Mutami.
It was all triggered when earlier in the year, the Special Anti Corruption Unit head, Thabani Mpofu was close to arresting Local Govt Minister, July Moyo over the alleged sale of stands in Harare, Kwekwe and Gweru for his own benefit.
There were several beneficiaries listed on this reported scandal who are in the ministry of Justice; so to hide this, a quick plan was hatched to get Mpofu fired.
Owen Ncube
Mpofu, who leads the controversial taskforce, was swiftly accused of authoring letters for MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti advising the opposition icon on ways if navigating through the justice system.
Close sources allege that, when this was about to happen, the Norton MP Temba Mliswa went over to president, Emmerson Mnangagwa to advise him to ignore the calls to fire Mpofu, doing this in order to settle scores with the enemy of an enemy (Mliswa had heard that Thabani Mpofu had been set up by July Moyo, Owen Ncube, and Virginia Mabhiza). Mliswa has had several bones to chew with Thabani Mpofu. Mliswa reasoned with Mnangagwa saying: how could Thabani Mpofu author letters for MDC Deputy President Tendai Biti in this age and time when he could simply pick a phone call.
Parallel to all this, Temba Mliswa was the subject of an ongoing probe in which he was entangled with ex girlfriend, Susan.
Facts became clear mid February that, Susan Mutami, the centre of the axis, was used to incriminate Mliswa.
Mutami is an enigma. She claims she bedded the late SB Moyo, Killer Zivhu, Temba Mliswa. She is even openly announces saying she has bedded the President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
She says she has Mliswa’s twins, while at the same time naming her son after his arch enemy, Owen Ncube.
5 LOVERS, 2 PREGNANCIES TO 2 DIFFERENT MEN, ALL IN ONE YEAR
–
Last year alone she dated at least four different men who include the Foreign Affairs Minister SB Moyo, one after the other:
Susan Mutami’s latest profile picture – source: Susan Mutami, Twitter.com
Polite Kambamura, the Mining Deputy Minister (they were engaged). Walter Chikwana, Secretary for the Judicial Commission (they had a civil partnership in 2020), and ZANU PF MP, Hon Kenneth Musanhi (see pictures).
Furthermore, an affidavit seen by ZimEye states in addition that she was already pregnant way before bedding Mliswa last year.
–
The affidavit, certified by the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), shows that as at around March 2020, she was still engaged to another man, who works inside the JSC, Mr Walter Chikwana.
–
The man was reached for a comment but wouldn’t speak or respond to questions.
Meanwhile, the affidavit states that Mutami was carrying a pregnancy to another man at the end of March 2020. In the affidavit, her boyfriend, Mr Chikwana says:
+
‘ I am Susan Vivian Mutami’s partner and in case of emergency I can be contacted on the above mentioned address or on my mobile number, +263772***********”
–
He then goes on to say he is the legal guardian of SB Moyo’s Child (full name redacted-in accordance with the Children’s Act on the paper).
–
” I am also the legal guardian of (name withheld), and our unborn child as of date. Attached hereto is a copy of my identification.”
–
The affidavit was signed on the 24th March 2020.
Affidavit
The development puts burden on Mutami to explain the timing drama surrounding her two pregnancies (to different men) which are within months of each other.
–
She also says that she is the holder of two Australian degrees of which she has none, and also makes false claims that she is the winner of Australia’s CEO awards. During interviews with Mutami, ZimEye reveals how that her claims to university courses are baseless.
VIDEO LOADING BELOW
Asked to state which universities issued her 2 degrees, Susan Mutami says: the @AusEmbZim performed all verification checks. She says: "There is no way a whole embassy would just leave and accompany me to go and donate, and hand out donations without doing proper checks on me…" pic.twitter.com/deBmXUv4St
She is also put to task on her CEO Awards claim, and it is revealed that she was only a passerby at the function who posed in front of a camera holding someone else’s award. (SEE RGM INTERVIEW BELOW)
Her ex lover, Mliswa has maintained his allegations that he was set up by the Central Intelligence Organisation in order to incriminate him using Susan Mutami.
After all this she is lawfully stopped while trying to leave the country, and then she is put under the custody of the Central Intelligence Organisation.
Mutami is held for possessing details on the attempted assassination of the president and killing of three aides at the White City Stadium, then she is whisked out by two powerful ministers who have close links to the president, July Moyo (local governments), Owen Mudha Ncube, minister of state security. After being whisked out without knowledge of the mother body of the CIO, she then starts to attack to the Director General of the CIO, who she claims she once dated, then threatening to release secret information on the cabinet, Politburo and a number of other official secrets, while on the same tweet, absolving the two ministers, July Moyo and Owen Mudha Ncube.
At this time, July Moyo is under investigations for parceling out land, a case being probed by Thabani Mpofu’s SACU organisation.
July Moyo is very close to permanent Secretary Mrs Virginia Mabhiza and Kumbirai Hodzi, the prosecutor General. At the same time, Thabani Mpofu’s SACU is having clashes with the Prosecutor General. There was a collusion between the Prosecutor Gen and July Moyo to get Thabani Mpofu fired. The PG and July Moyo then approached the president Emmerson Mnangagwa to pass allegations that Thabani Mpofu has advised Biti.
The event trail is as follows:
Thabani Mpofu is accused of writing WhatsApp letters to MDC Alliance MP Tendai Biti giving him advice on how to return to parliament, and this makes the president very angry. At this time, Mnangagwa has also been told by Perm Sec Virginia Mabhiza, and Prosecutor Gen Kumbirai Hodzi, to ignore the request to arrest Minister July Moyo on land fraud.
Mnangagwa then summons Thabani Mpofu to State House where he is dressed down. It is reported that Mpofu has been fired. ZimEye contacts Mpofu who tells this news network, it’s not true at all. Are you my employer?, Mpofu fires a question while answering to the report.
Soon afterwards, Temba Mliswa who is naturally against Mpofu, comes to the rescue of Mpofu to tell the President that Mpofu has been set up. Thabani Mpofu also gets support of the CIO DG Isaac Moyo. This angers July Moyo who together with Owen Ncube sponsor Susan Mutami to tweet ‘some dirt’ on Isaac Moyo while absolving July Moyo and Owen Ncube publicly, on the Twitter website.
State security sources report saying Mutami was whisked out of Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge Border post. ZimEye requests paperwork to confirm that the escape was truly through that border post. No date is provided, but by end of April 2021, she is now safely in Australia.
Both Owen Ncube and July Moyo are contacted for a comment, and their phones are put down soon after hearing the interview questions.
Responding to the state security reports, Mliswa denies ever approaching Mnangagwa to assist Mpofu. He tells ZimEye: “Mpofu, Matanga, Mudha, July Moto, and Ziyambi Ziyambi are all one and the same, working hand-in-hand.”
It surfaces that Mutami is an agent of July Moyo and his team to settle their matters with Director General, Isaac Moyo. Thabani Mpofu then suddenly comes out the victim of the two warning camps.
The development has raised questions on how safe Zimbabweans are when ministers and two officials are using a woman to settle their personal scores. Is Zimbabwe is being run by people controlled by bottom power, or is it that Susan Mutami has some ability to capture all these people, or she is so dazzling to control the nation’s top government officials?
Perhaps a demonstration of how the masses are angry with government spokesman, Nick Mangwana’s propaganda, there was a stir when he was described under the most of deregatories. He had just posted a picture of himself playing with two huge dogs, when one Freddy Masarirevhu on Twitter posted saying, “may your privates be bitten off and when you head to hospital, you find doctors on strike and you decide to take a bus to the witch doctor and the bus break down and then, a lion chops off your backside. IS THIS FAIR? PICTURES
By A Correspondent| Prominent Human Rights Lawyer Freddy Masarirevu has encouraged youths to take advantage of the newly formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and register to vote ahead of the 2023 elections.
He said the only way youths can have a future in Zimbabwe was through the ballot box.
“The future of young people is in the ballot box””The birth of CCC is something special for the young people of this country.
The party resonates well with the problems we are facing as young people in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Masarirevu said that the Youth have been frustrated and most of them have genuine reasons of not going to vote but they had to for the sake of their future.
“If you want a situation to allow the current regime to have room to manipulate and rig the election just sit down and don’t do anything,” said Masarirevu.
Masarirevu encouraged young people to go and register as well as defend their vote in the next plebiscite.
“Young people should go and register ,vote and defend their vote.”
One of Zimbabwe’s teachers unions, Amalgamated Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has embarked on a voter education programme throughout the country on a non-partisan approach.
Dubbed #EDUVOTE, the campaign aims at deepening electoral literacy among citizens throughout the country’s under the leadership of trained voter champions within the respective districts.
“The #Eduvote Mvt is growing. Voting for leaders who prioritise education is one sure way to #SaveOurEducationZw We are not moved by the panic shrill from the State’s propaganda machinery.
We are duty bound to make this Republic inclusive for all its people. #JusticeforTrsZw” Wrote ARTUZ on their twitter account among other things, participants in the programme are exposed to discussions on the right to voter’s education and how learners were being short changed by not going to cast their ballots, thus being encouraged to vote.
The trained participants then go on an electoral literacy drive distributing #Eduvote flyers.
Schools that lack stationary are also visited and participants donate whatever amounts of money for the cause.
In areas such as Binga, ARTUZ revealed that there was high electoral literacy but due to the area’s marginalization early child marriage cases are rampant, school dropouts persisit and communication barriers exist between learners and teachers who cannot speak Tonga.
ARTUZ said it was spearheading an inclusivity approach and would not be deterred by State machinery apparatchiks in their quest.

By A Correspondent- A member of the neighbourhood watch Alias Paradzai (40) was jailed for breaking into 16 people’s cars in Concession, Shamva, Mount Darwin and Bindura.
Paradzai was sentenced to 4 years in jail by Provincial magistrate Tinashe Ndokera.
Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that from 2018 upto January this year Pedzisai broke into people’s cars stealing batteries, modulators, money and clothes.
Kundiona told the court that Pedzisai took advantage of his neighbourhood watch post to survay places that he could pounce on.
His lucky ran out when he stole a police bicycle at ZRP Chin’unu base in Bindura.
He was spotted with riding the bicycle while coming from one of his loot and was arrested.
By A Correspondent- A faction of the opposition MDC-T led by suspended party deputy president Thokozani Khupe has demanded funding from the State under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.
Speaking to NewsDay yesterday, MDC-T (Khupe) spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said:
What the people of Zimbabwe must understand is that the money is for the MDC-T party.
Said Coltart:
In 2018, there were two MDC political parties, the MDC Alliance and the MDC-T, but the MDC-T failed to get 5% of the total votes.
So the money either goes to MDC Alliance or no one, the $149 850 000 is an illegality considering the name changes and all.
Political analyst Vivid Gwede said the ZANU PF-led government wanted to deprive Chamisa of public finances. Said Gwede:
ZANU PF has already made sure through various ways that the Chamisa-led entity, by whatever name, is deprived of public finances.
Going forward the CCC party will have to fend for itself until it wins seats and be due for its disbursement.
As we have also seen, citizens are willing to donate through online platforms which creates an even more organic and important connection with the new party.
By-Alick Macheso’s dancer, Selemani Mpochi, popularly known as Majuice, has been acquitted of a rape charge at the Harare Magistrates Court.
Mpochi (34) was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl he had offered a lift in August 2021.
Magistrate Ignatio Mhene ruled that the evidence given by the complainant was not reliable as she reported the matter to the police after being interrogated by her parents.
The magistrate further said the complainant was forced to report the matter to the police by the parents. Said Mhene:
Things got heated at home and the complainant now claims she was raped. The defence was written when they said the two were in love.
The evidence of the complainant is not credible and cannot be taken seriously.
Mpochi was represented by his lawyer Ashiel Mugiya, who successfully filed an application for discharge at the close of the State case.
Allegations are that on 20 August 2021, the complainant sent a text message to the dancer begging him to drive her to Kuwadzana the following day for a party.
It is alleged that the next day Mpochi met the complainant and they proceeded to Kuwadzana where he dropped her and went away.
At around 5 pm on the same day, the complainant sent a message to Mpochi advising him that she was not feeling comfortable at the party. She told him to come and pick her up.
The court heard that Mpochi drove and picked the complainant and went to a certain house in Crowborough phase 3 where he had sexual intercourse with her once without her consent.
After the act, it is alleged, Mpochi drove the complainant to her house where she arrived late.
On being quizzed by her mother on why she arrived home late, the complainant initially lied about what had transpired.
However, on the following day, she confessed her ordeal to a friend and the matter was reported to the police leading to Mpochi’s arrest.
By-Opposition MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora has received another one hundred and forty-nine million, eight hundred and fifty thousand Zimbabwean dollars (ZWLS 149 850 000.00) under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.
This is equivalent to USD$1.3 million at the official exchange rate.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Zimbabwe announced the development in General Notice 125A of 2022.
POLITICAL PARTIES (FINANCE) ACT [CHAPTER 2:111
Disbursement of Money to Political Parties
IT is hereby notified, in terms of section 3(2) of the Political Parties (Finance) Act [Chapter 2:111, that the total amount of moneys payable to political parties in respect of the year beginning 1 January, 2022, and ending 31 December, 2022, is five hundred million Zimbabwean dollars.
The money shall be disbursed to political parties that qualify in terms of section 3(2) of the Act as follows:
(a) three hundred and fifty million, one hundred and fifty thousand Zimbabwean dollars (ZWL$350 150 000,00) shall be paid to the Zimbabwe African Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF), which received 70.03% of the total votes casted; and
(b) one hundred and forty-nine million, eight hundred and fifty thousand Zimbabwean dollars (ZWLS 149 850 000.00) shall be paid to the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), which received 29.97% of the total votes casted.
Z. ZIYAMBI,
Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
Analysts say the money was due to the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa, now CCC, under the Political Parties Finance Act based on the 2018 election. Chamisa contested the presidential election and came out as the runner up.

Tinashe Sambiri|Controversial former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu says MDC- T president Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora is useless and immature.
Although Zivhu maintains he is a Zanu PF supporter, the outspoken politician has not hidden his passion for the party led by President Nelson Chamisa.
Writing on Twitter, Zivhu advised Mwonzora to ” play with toys” because of lack of sound political strategies.
“Politics is for big Boyz, small Boys play with your toys , this game is for strategists not noise makers, you don’t grab everything from the other players like MDC-T that’s childish. Usafadza muvengi wako because of money and power, ramba kuitiswa and hired kuparadza vekwako,” said Zivhu.

By- The former Information Minister, Jonathan Moyo, said that the nation would remember Douglas Mwonzora as the successful man who killed and buried the country’s main opposition.
He made the remarks this Thursday after the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa morphed into the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) after Mwonzora claimed that he was the leader of MDC Alliance and all MDC derivatives. Some analysts say the split of MDC-T into two factions, one led by Mwonzora and the other led by Thokozani Khupe as well as the formation of the CCC marks the demise of the MDC brand. Pindula News previously quoted Mwonzora as denying that the MDC-T had split. Moyo, a Political Science professor accuses Mwonzora of causing the “demise” of the party formed at the turn of the millennium. Pindula News presents a statement by the former legislator for Tsholotsho: As part of the history of political parties in Zimbabwe, following yesterday’s sitting of the historic Nomination Court for the 26 March 2022 by-elections, which saw the birth of #CCC, @DMwonzora will be remembered as the UNDERTAKER OF THE MDC: he has single-handedly buried it!
FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2000, the next general election in 2023 won’t have the #MDC as a major contender; it’s dead, thanks to @DMwonzora, and it will be buried in the by-elections and will have no chance to resurrect thereafter; Mwonzora will be honoured as the Undertaker! The 2005 & 2014 #MDC splits led by @Welshman_Ncube & @BitiTendai respectively, did not go after the soul of the #MDC brand or base, the differences were on principle; in contrast, @DMwonzora has been @edmnangagwa’s wezhira spear; which has pierced through the heart of the #MDC!

The Zimbabwe School Examination Council (Zimsec) has dismissed as false, social media claims that 2021 Grade 7 results are out.
According to the viral message, examination centre heads were to start collecting the results from Zimsec regional offices from Wednesday.
One of the messages also read that: “Bulawayo does not have a school in the top 40; the 10 worst schools with a zero percent pass rate are in Matabeleland region and 88 schools countrywide recorded a zero percent pass rate.”
In an interview, Zimsec spokesperson Ms Nicky Dlamini said the examination body will officially announce through the press once results are ready.
“As Zimsec we cover a wide range of people and I am sure someone heard that we have completed marking Grade 7 examinations and decided to circulate these falsehoods. We are dealing with Grade 7s, they’re young and the unnecessary panic and alarm was uncalled for. We would like to apologise to stakeholders and our Grade 7s for this alarming falsehood,” said Ms Dlamini.
“For the record, Zimsec does not send official announcements on social media. The print media will be the first to run our press statements once our results are out, which is very soon.”
Government is expected to announce the date on which schools will reopen soon. During the just-ended festive season, Government praised Zimbabweans for their resilience in the face of Covid-19, urging everyone to remain vigilant and continue following expert advice.
Last year, Government succeeded in putting in place adequate measures informed by World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines to ensure that schools reopened safely.
Only examination classes returned to school to complete public examinations, which they had started in 2021.
The last examination is on Monday next week. -Chronicle
A Kwekwe woman, with mental illness is struggling to fend for her two children she sired with unknown men who are reportedly in the habit of sneaking into her bedroom raping her before disappearing.
The woman who cannot be named, now has two children whose fathers remain a mystery as they pounce on the woman during the cover of the darkness.
The matter came to light during a donation of seed and food hampers by the Midlands Black Rhino Conservancy (MBRC) recently with authorities emphasising the need to make sure the family gets food.
Councillor for Zibagwe Rural District Council Ward 2, Rodgers Nhari confirmed the incident saying that the woman is refusing to breastfeed her baby due to hunger and mental illness.
The woman was born with a mental illness and now has two children, one aged 5 and the other who is six months old.
“We have an unfortunate incident in my ward where men are in the habit of taking advantage of this woman. She is aged 23 and she now has two children whom she sired with unknown men. The men are aware of her condition and are in the habit of sneaking into her bedroom and forcing themselves on her before fleeing,” said Clr Nhari.
“The main challenge is that she is failing to produce milk for the baby due to hunger. They are failing to fend for themselves and at times the woman cannot feed the baby owing to her disability.” He said the woman stays with her aged mother adding the family was in need of assistance.
“The grandmother is now old and surely there is nothing she can do about the situation. To make matters worse, they leave the two of them only leaving the woman at the mercy of the perpetrators,” he said.
The matter has since been reported to the police who continuously say investigations are underway. He said the community has since mobilised food and they also managed to build a two-bedroom flat for the family so that they can have a roof over their heads.
He said there were two other similar cases in his area and chances were high that the perpetrators are the same.
“It is almost in the same area in Benoni area in Katanga Road where we have almost a similar case where a mentally challenged woman was sexually exploited by her uncle. He fled after he learnt that police were after him after he left the woman with a baby and her mother,” he said.
According to Musasa Projects, the organisation recorded 614 cases of people with mental health issues and people with disabilities having been abused in 2021 alone. -Chronicle

By- A 3,9 magnitude earthquake hit Bulawayo and some parts of Matabeleland South on Tuesday night, causing panic and sending some people in Gwanda, Plumtree and Maphisa into the streets to investigate. Many others took to social media and residents association groups to talk about the occurrence. Some were not aware that they had experienced an earthquake. In a statement, Meteorological Services Department (MSD) confirmed that an earthquake was felt in Gwanda, Kezi, Plumtree, Matobo, some parts of Bulawayo and surrounding areas on Tuesday at 9.37pm. “The determined earthquake parameters show that the earthquake occurred at Latitude -21.143S and Longitude 28.472E and the Magnitude was 3.9.
The epicentre is in Matobo District about 20km from Maphisa, 40km from Gwanda town, about 25km from Kezi, about 100km from Bulawayo, 100km from Plumtree but it was widely felt in Matabeleland South Province and some parts of Bulawayo Metropolitan,” read the statement. It said an earthquake with a magnitude of between 2.5 to 5.4 is felt, but causes minor damage. According to the statement, MSD officers at Kezi, Matopos and Plumtree Meteorological offices, indicated that a number of people whom they talked to in their areas felt the earthquake. “Mr Munyira the Provincial Meteorological Chief for Matabeleland South also felt the shaking and he has also received some reports from people who felt the earthquake in Gwanda town and some other parts of the province,” read the statement.
MSD head of forecasting, Mr James Ngoma said the earthquake was a result of water from tropical storm Ana which sank into the fault lines. “We had tropical depression Ana which affected much of the country giving us rainfall across the Eastern and North Eastern parts of the country covering Manicaland as well as Mashonaland East. Most of this water sank into our fault lines giving us a tremor that was felt in Matopo district at 3,9 magnitude on the richter scale. It was felt in areas such as Gwanda and Tsholotsho as well as Bulawayo and other surrounding areas,” said Mr Ngoma. Gwanda mayor, Councillor Njabulo Siziba said he felt it and it terrified him. “As for me and my family, we were very traumatised when we felt the house shaking. It was after 9pm, and the earthquake was the least expected thing to occur in our minds.
We would really like to find out what caused it, we are just thankful that I haven’t heard of any damages caused so far,” he said. Maphisa Roman Catholic priest Father Innocent Ndlovu said the eathquake was very intense as he could feel his whole house shaking. “The silence of Tuesday night was suddenly broken by a very huge sound that shook my room, I then felt that the whole house was shaking. I almost ran out of the house but then I thought to myself that if it’s an earthquake it would pass in a few seconds, so for that reason I stayed in bed keeping a special ear and eye to what could happen,” he said.
By- There was pandemonium at a building housing the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) offices in the Harare central business district after some of the offices caught fire.
The state media reports that when they arrived at the scene, the building had been evacuated and the employees were milling outside the building.
Some employees who spoke to The Herald but refused to be named said the fire started on the seventh floor and swift reaction by the guards stopped the fire from spreading to the rest of the building. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known. “We do not know what exactly transpired. We are still shocked about where the fire came from. We are even afraid to go back and work in our offices because no one knows at the moment the exact cause of the fire”, one of the employees. The amount of damage to the property is not yet known.
By-A senior Zanu PF youth member challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s appointment as leader after the November 2017 military coup, Sybeth Musengezi accused ruling party officials of misleading the court by withholding vital information.
Musengezi filed papers at the High Court in October seeking a ruling declaring null and void a November 19, 2017 Zanu PF central committee meeting that saw Mnangagwa become acting party president. The late Robert Mugabe was forced to resign as party president after that meeting. He also resigned as Zimbabwe President after the ruling Zanu PF party and then opposition MDC Alliance coalesced and initiated an impeachment process. Musengezi submitted his heads of argument at the High Court yesterday, where he accused the respondents of misleading the court to get a favourable judgment. “The above critical information in relation to the whereabouts and alleged incapacitation of … Mugabe and the alleged absence of the Vice-President and second secretary (Phelekezela Mphoko) has been also withheld, it is submitted, purposely withheld so as to mislead the court,” he claimed in his heads of argument. “This fully applies to the respondents’ case, in that as on the 19th November 2017, Mugabe was, as a notorious fact, at State House, Harare, and locked up in talks with the military heads after the military had registered its presence on the streets of Harare …” Zanu PF, Mnangagwa, Mpofu, Zanu PF finance secretary Patrick Chinamasa, Mphoko and ex-Zanu PF finance secretary Ignatius Chombo are the respondents in the case. Musengezi is represented by Nqobani Sithole. Musengezi repeated his allegation that the central committee that ushered in Mnangagwa as acting party leader was null and void. “The controversy of an illegal act, which act was and is still invalid, has not been terminated. The illegality still stands until it is pronounced as such by a competent court,” he said. Musengezi last month accused the police of intimidating him to drop the court challenge. In opposing papers filed on November 5, Mpofu argued that the High Court had no jurisdiction to hear the case, adding that Mnangagwa enjoyed presidential immunity. He also argued that Musengezi was not a Zanu PF member, contrary to his claims. This is despite the fact that Musengezi won the Zanu PF primary elections for Harare North constituency ahead of the 2018 polls and lost to the MDC Alliance’s Allan Markham in the July 31 general elections. By -Chief Chikwaka has been arrested for allegedly extorting Goodness and Mercy Ministries leader, prophet Tapiwa Freddy.
The traditional leader appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, Wednesday.

FC Platinum have dismissed reports claiming that coach Norman Mapeza is set to leave after disagreeing with the club’s hierarchy over the future of senior players.
The Platinum Miners have let go of several senior players after their contracts expired, a move they have since clarified.
There were however reports in local media this morning suggesting that the departure of those players irked Mapeza, and the coach disagrees with the club’s new policy, resulting in him wanting to leave.
Kugona Kunenge Kudada spokesperson Chido Chizondo said all that is false, and the club’s executive and Mapeza are on the same page.
“That (rumours of a disagreement) is not the position. There is no such thing, we are all in agreement,” she told Soccer24. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Sexual exploitation & abuse (SEA) of the communities we serve is a grave violation of WHO’s commitment to serve and protect the vulnerable. Sexual harassment (SH) of our workforce is a serious failure of our duty of care. This is the sentiment of WHO’s leadership, staff and her Member States. But we all know and acknowledge that more could and should be done. And done quickly. The risks of SEA have increased significantly in recent years.
WHO is increasingly operational, being called on to operate to save lives and minimize death, disease and suffering in our health programmes and emergency response operations. Our work in countries of fragility, conflict and vulnerability increase the risk of exploitation.
We work with UN agencies and NGOs to address these risks jointly, and aim to meet the standards set by WHO’s own policies and Code of ethics and professional conduct as well as meet the requirements and expectations set by the UN system and IASC partners.
WHO is scaling up its efforts to do everything in its power to prevent and protect from SEAH. Everyone – staff, consultants, suppliers, partners – has an obligation to report any suspected events that may constitute SEAH.

By A Correspondent | Zim activist William Chinyanga has been called back into court at the Old Bailey for the verdict on his trial, which is expected to be announced any time from now. Chinyanga is on trial for incitement to terrorism over utterances he made after being personally threatened with military level violence (bombings, shootings and beatings) by UK based ZANU PF terorists, and 3 months later later just after CCC President Nelson Chamisa suffered a live ammunition attack in Marondera on 1 Dec 2019.
It is the Defendant’s case that he was simply jesting back the same strong language flung at him and other opposition activists.
A twelve member jury is expected to deliver their unanimous judgement after they failed to reach agreement on Wed.

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens Coalition For Change led by President Nelson Chamisa says there is no space for stomach politicians in the people’s struggle.
President Chamisa’s bold decision to rebrand his party is giving Zanu PF bigwigs sleepless nights.
The Citizens Coalition For Change ( Namibia) has lashed out at Mr Douglas Mwonzora for attempting to sell the people’s struggle for a few pieces of silver.
Read statement below:
Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) Namibia is absolutely inspired by freshness, positivity and loyalty in “The New.”
27 January 2022
Now that all the suspected enemies of progress were flushed out of the national democratic revolution led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa as the organic leader of the newly formed CCC, Namibia feels energised and rejuvenated to fight for the change that delivers. As an external assembly that subscribes to constitutional democracy, we urge all social democrats across the globe to cross pollinate the freshness, delight, clarity , enlightenment, optimism and joy brought by the renewal of the people’s party a futile attempt to annihilate the people’s party.
Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia embraces the revolutionary trajectory exhibited by the leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa who pledged to re-position the citizen to the centre of decision making and policy advocacy and formulation. The district concurs that the citizen should be at the centre of governance in a democracy. CCC’s commitment to one man one vote is irresistible that is why we are targeting 6 million voters for change in 2023 harmonised elections. Social democrats in Namibia are ready to contribute meaningfully morally, materially and financially.
Moreover, we urge citizens to brace for dangerous freedom as we face a hybrid of dictatorship ahead of the by-elections and general elections in 2023. It is the moral and political obligation of change seekers worldwide to embrace this mammoth vision for a New Great Zimbabwe. As part of our massive mobilisation, recruitment and radicalisation towards six million voters for change, we are geared to organise Zimbabweans in Namibia for complete socio-economic transfiguration.
Although changing our name, logo, colour and slogans arrived with some difficulties, our people are very clear on what we represent. We abandoned everything and surrendered it to Zanupf surrogates who wanted to sell the people’s project for three pieces of silver. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia maintains its dedication to the total emancipation of its downtrodden masses who are languishing in abject poverty. We shall soldier on confronting the belly politicians of plunder and self-enrichment. It should be clear to the whole world that we epitomise new hope, jubilance and freedom.
Furthermore, despite losing everything except ourselves, our strong conviction to usher in constitutional democracy remains unperturbed and it’s perennial.
Our message is very clear and precise, let’s register to vote for change, vote in 2023 and defend the vote against serial elections fraudsters in Zanupf. Social democrats should desist from greed politics especially from candidate selection processes to voting. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia echoes that double candidature is a clear sign of infiltration hence its presence in the new party will defeat our new hope. I hope we are not going to have such complications as we field our candidates for 2022 by-elections.
The ideology of social democracy as articulated by the late Icon Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai should demonstrate people’s respect to the national democratic struggle, may his dear soul rest in peace. Leaders are expected to be custodians of the people hope and revolutionary energy. Belly politics went with Douglas Mwonzora, Tokozanu Khupe, Morgan Komichi, Mashakada, Dumbu and their cabal. By A Correspondent- Government yesterday increased the number of evacuation centres in Manicaland province from 396 to 459 in an effort to deal with potential effects of Cyclone Ana.
Two students are marooned in Nyanga due to heavy floods.
Tropical Cyclone Ana has already hit neighbouring Mozambique and Malawi, resulting in three deaths.
It hit Zimbabwe on Monday night, leaving a trail of destruction including 105 houses in Manicaland.
The Mozambique National Institute for Management and Disaster Risk Reduction said two people died in the neighbouring country, 66 were injured, while 546 homes were partially destroyed, and another 115 completely destroyed.
The Malawi Department of Disaster Management Affairs said one person died, while 30 others sustained injuries, with displaced families seeking refuge from flooding in churches and schools.
Manicaland Civil Protection Unit chairperson Edgar Seenza yesterday said Zimbabwe had recorded two cases of internally displaced persons due to flooded rivers.
“We now have 459 evacuation centres in the province, and we have two internally displaced persons whereby two students from Nyafaru Secondary School in Nyanga were unable to go back to their homes because of flooded Gairezi River,” Seenza said.
“I am happy to say that we have no casualties yet.”
Seenza said two bridges were damaged: Samhutsa bridge in Chipinge and Gairezi bridge in Nyanga, while seven roads were blocked by floods in Manicaland province.
“We have 105 houses whose roofs were blown off and damaged. Six institutional buildings also had their roofs blown off in the province,” he said.
The Meteorological Services Department said Chimanimani received the most rainfall during the tropical storm.
Areas in Zimbabwe forecast to be affected by Cyclone Ana include Kariba and Hurungwe in Mashonaland West province, Mudzi and Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe in Mashonaland East province, and Rushinga, Muzarabani, Centenary, Mt Darwin and Mbire in Mashonaland Central province.-newsday
By A Correspondent- Gweru residents went for a third straight day yesterday without running water after Zesa cut power supplies at Gweru City Council’s water treatment plants over non-payment of a $247 million debt.
Zesa disconnected power at the city’s treatment plants at two of its main water sources, White Waters and Gwenhoro dams.
Zesa also disconnected Town House resulting in council failing to collect revenue.
Council was forced to resort to a generator which was reportedly running out of fuel.
In May last year, Zesa switched off council’s water treatment plants over a debt of $143 million and only restored supplies after the local authourity committed to a monthly payment plan of $13 million.
White Waters water treatment plant feeds areas such as Ridgemont, Riverside while the rest of Gweru is fed from Gwenhoro dam that is pumped at the Range booster.
The development is exposing residents to risk of diseases, such as cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid and dysentery as they resort to unsafe water sources.
Some residents are taking advantage of the rains by harvesting water from rooftops.
Some have turned to boreholes.
In a notice to members of the public, acting town clerk Mr Vakayi Douglas Chikwekwe apologised to Zesa and the residents for the power cut.
“We would like to apologise to ZETDC for earlier advising that there is a power outage at the Range booster. The correct information is that as a local authority we have been cut off by ZETDC at the Range booster, White Waters waterworks, and TownHouse for non-payment of electricity bills,” he said.
He said they had engaged Zesa for a payment plan adding that water supplies would be restored once power is restored.
“We owe Zesa about $247 million and we are working on a payment plan,” said Mr Chikwekwe.
Zesa Southern Region general manager for Gibson Kasipo yesterday declined to comment, referring all questions to the local authority.
A Zesa official speaking on condition of anonymity said, “Out of all the money unpaid by ZETDC customers in the Midlands province, the city of Gweru owes 40percent alone. Several letters were written to council requesting them to come forward and make a payment plan but they didn’t respond.”
Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association director Mr Cornelius Selipiwe said while it was the local authority’s duty to pay its power bills, Zesa as another public entity should avoid endangering residents’ lives through disconnecting power at the water pump stations.
“Gweru residents, at home and in clinics or hospitals need to have access to clean and safe water and that right is infringed when they go for three days like in this case without running water. I think Gweru and Zesa bosses should have taken time to at least find each other before the later endangered residents’ lives,” he said.
The shutting down of the councils’ water pumping stations and the administrative offices has once again exposed the vulnerability of city finances exacerbated by non-payment of rates by ratepayers.
GCC is battling to recover about $1billion in unpaid bills by residents, commercial and Government entities.
Over the years, the GCC budget has been underperforming due to low appetite by residents and other stakeholders to pay their bills.
Due to non-payment of bills by ratepayers, the city council was now struggling to clear its debt to service providers, particularly its three major creditors, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra), ZETDC and the Local Authorities Pension Fund (LAPF).
The latest setback comes barely a fortnight after the city elected a new mayor, Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi, who replaced Dr Josiah Makombe, who was recalled from his position by the MDC-T.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- The High Court Wednesday cancelled Monday’s ruling stopping by-elections in six constituencies that allowed People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members to bounce back to Parliament without being subjected to an election.
High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi on Tuesday ruled that the recall of Tendai Biti (Harare East), Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo), Willias Madzimure (Kambuzuma), Regai Tsunga (Mutasa South), Kucaca Ivumile Phulu (Nkulumane) and Sichelesile Mahlangu (Pumula) was illegal.
But another High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo Wednesday issued a provisional order directing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to reopen nominations for the six constituencies.
Justice Katiyo made the order after Benjamin Rukanda, who initiated the recall of the six legislators, filed an urgent chamber application challenging Justice Chitapi’s ruling. Justice Katiyo’s order read in part:
The first respondent (ZEC) be and is hereby ordered to reopen the nomination court for the nomination of candidates to fill the vacancies for the constituencies….
The cancellation of the nomination court process for the constituencies … by ZEC be and is hereby declared null and void for lack of legality.
ZEC yesterday said implementing the order after the closure of the nomination court was a legal impossibility. ZEC said in a statement:
The court order was served at 1655hrs after the nomination courts had closed and it became a legal impossibility to implement. Nomination courts close at 1600hrs in terms of the law. Zec will stand guided on the way forward by legal instruments/orders to be issued in terms of the law.
PDP official Jacob Mafume described the latest setback as shocking there has never been a High Court judge who has cancelled another judge’s order. He added:
The ordinary thing is for people to appeal. We are surprised and in awe to whatever this development is. The same court cannot give contrasting orders within hours of itself.
Justice Chitapi Tuesday ordered the reinstatement of Biti, the MP for Harare East; William Madzimure of Kambuzuma; Chikwinya of Mbizvo; Kucaca Ivumile Phulu of Nkulumane; Sichelesile Mahlangu of Pumula and Regai Tsunga of Mutasa South who had been expelled based on a 2020 Supreme Court ruling.
By A Correspondent- Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, the country’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) yesterday adjusted its promotional bundle prices by at least 20%.
The adjustment, which does not include the headline tariff, comes after the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), the industry’s regulator, granted service providers the greenlight to increase promotional bundle prices in line with rising operating costs.
The adjustment does not, however, include the headline (out of bundle) tariffs, which remain the same.
The bundle price adjustment comes after the latest industry report showed a worrying trend where telecommunications companies’ operating costs are growing at a faster pace than revenues.
The Potraz report said MNOs’ operating costs grew by 40,9% to $12,5 billion in the third quarter of 2021, from $8,8 billion reported in the second quarter.
Revenues, however, only grew by 15,8% to $19,5 billion, up from $16,9 billion in the previous quarter.
Econet, whose operations have been hard hit by power cuts and extensive vandalism of its infrastructure, on Monday advised its customers of the impending price adjustments.
“Dear customer. Kindly take note; voice, data and SMS bundle prices will be reviewed effective January 25, 2022,” the company said.
State-owned mobile network service providers Telecel Zimbabwe and NetOne are expected to adjust their bundle prices later in the week or early next week.
Zimbabwean MNOs have been reviewing tariffs regularly, by an average of 20%.
But the tariff adjustments have failed to keep pace with inflation, which closed 2021 at over 60%, while the Zimbabwe dollar lost more than 50% of its value in the past 12 to 18 months.
Industry experts last week said an increase in electricity tariffs early this month, coupled with an unstable foreign currency market, was largely to blame for the rise in prices of most goods and services in several sectors of the economy.
“Electricity and fuel are key fundamental inputs in commerce and industry. They are required in all sectors of the economy. Therefore price increases of these inputs have a pass-on effect in the whole economy, pushing up general inflation as prices of all goods and services go up,” Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries president Kurai Matsheza said.
Power utility Zesa Holdings, which regularly adjusts its electricity prices, increased its tariffs by 12,3% at the beginning of this month, which had an immediate knock-on effect on the prices of basic goods and services.
Meanwhile, Econet said although it was using scarce foreign currency to import and replace infrastructure lost to vandalism, the company would continue seeking ways to keep its more than 10 million subscribers connected.
Zimbabwe’s largest MNO recently introduced United States dollar-denominated promotional bundles to cater for customers who have free funds.
The US$1 bundle consists of 15 voice minutes, 150 megabytes of data and 15 SMS, all valid for 24 hours.-newsday

(NYATHI. P) Assistant Commissioner
Senior Staff Officer (Press, Public and Int. Relations) to the Commissioner-General of Police
LAST May, I drove 440km from Harare, the Zimbabwean capital, to Bulawayo, the country’s second-largest city, to meet two colleagues from The New York Times.
Christina Goldbaum aand Joao Silva were flying in from South Africa for a reporting trip of several days.It would prove to be an ill-fated expedition.I was outside Bulawayo’s Joshua Mqabuko International Airport when Silva and Goldbaum landed that afternoon.
“Hello Jeff, the customs officials are not letting us in,” Goldbaum told me on WhatsApp.I had earlier picked up their accreditation cards from the Zimbabwe Media Commission. These are a work permit required for both foreign and local journalists.
I now waited outside the airport with the hard copies.
The airport officials would not accept their soft copies and a customs official escorted Silva to fetch the hard copies.
Soon after, I was called inside to see the senior immigration officer. He said he wanted to compare their cards with my own to establish their authenticity.
He then took down my personal details, including home address and phone number. I offered to give him the contact of the official from the Zimbabwe Media Commission from whom I got the cards, Thabang Farai Manhika.
He’s responsible for processing accreditation for all journalists in Zimbabwe.
My colleagues were cleared, given seven-day visas and off we went.
Three days later, at 7am, I was getting back from fetching our car from the parking lot of the Meikles Hotel in Harare when I spotted Goldbaum and Silva confidently showing the same accreditation cards to men in plain clothes.
Later, it turned out they were officials from the immigration department.
One of them then came and asked where we were going and why.
I told him we were going to see a feeding scheme for the poor, run by women in a town called Chitungwiza.
He went back to my colleagues, who were still being interviewed by two other officials.
We were then ordered to drive to the immigration headquarters in the capital where further interviews were held.
This was on a Saturday – not a working day for most government departments.
The immigration department offices looked deserted. I kept being asked about the accreditation and went as far as showing the receipts of payment.
Then a senior immigration official arrived and we were ushered to his office where he apologised for the inconvenience caused to us.
He said that because of the suspicions that had emerged about the manner in which the accreditation was obtained, he had no option but to cancel my colleagues’ visas and send them back to their countries.
Goldbaum and Silva did not argue with the order.
They booked their flights out while we were still in the office and I drove them to the airport after.
I drove back home wondering what was in the offing for me.
A few days later, I got a call and was asked to report to a compliance office so I could sign a document that the immigration officials had forgotten to have signed when they deported my colleagues.
After consulting with Goldbaum, I refused.
More than two weeks later, three men hammered at my gate.
They turned out to be detectives from Harare Central Police Station’s anti-terrorism unit, who said they wanted to interview me at their offices. I called my lawyer and refused to go in their unmarked Mercedes-Benz, driving my own car instead.
At the police station, my interrogation started well before my lawyers arrived and continued when they got there. I was taken into a dingy police cell and detained overnight.
The following day, when I was meant to appear at the magistrate’s court in the capital, I was instead driven 440km by the arresting officers to Bulawayo.
Manhika, the registrar from the media commission who had given my NYT colleagues their accreditation, was with me as co-accused.
We were caged overnight at Bulawayo Central Police Station and then charged for allegedly infringing upon Section 36 of the country’s Immigration Act.
The charge was that I had lied about the accreditation and had given authorities fake accreditation for Goldbaum and Silva.
That day, my new home became Bulawayo Prison.Once known as Grey Prison, it is an ancient stone structure that opened up as a colonial prison in 1897.
Cell 33, the receiving cage I spent the first night in, was infested with lice and had urine all over the concrete floor, on which dirty and torn-up prison blankets were strewn. It was a chilly night.
Fellow new inmates scrambled for bits of blanket. I didn’t get any. Deep in the night, one kind inmate offered me a torn piece of blanket.
At my bail hearing, the magistrate said I was a flight risk because I had connections outside the country.
She even went as far as claiming I was a threat to national security – because I worked with my deported colleagues to interview locals without the approval of the country’s minister of information.
I was stunned. Allegedly, the sovereignty of the country was at stake because of my actions! For 21 days, Bulawayo prison was my home.
I slept on the concrete floor and ate the staple forced on every Zimbabwean prisoner: plain porridge without sugar for breakfast; thick pap (maize meal) and unsalted, boiled dried spinach and vegetables for lunch; and pap again with unsalted boiled beans for dinner.
Early in my stay, a prison nurse slapped me across my face as I was moving my body a bit while she tested me for coronavirus, claiming I was wasting her time.
Eventually, I was granted bail, but the case against me has continued. Since June last year, I have travelled 7 040 kilometres, in 16 trips, to and from Bulawayo, for court dates. My trial, which only started last week on 11 January, will resume on Valentine’s Day.
The NYT is supporting me with legal and other costs.I feel fearful, anxious and often despondent because of this case hanging over me.
My family fears the most for me and gets so worried each time I go to court, unsure if I would return or get shoved in jail again. For the love of God! Media freedom is hanging on the Calvary cross in Zimbabwe!
By A Correspondent- A bridge was swept away while a number of houses collapsed and roads were damaged mainly in Manicaland due to heavy rains caused by the overland Tropical Depression Ana.
Muchira Bridge in Chimanimani’s Ward 22, which connects with Ward 21, was extensively damaged by the rains while Tombo-Magadzire road in Nyanga district is now impassable.
The Civil Protection Unit continues to assess the extent of damage caused by the Overland Tropical Depression Ana.
District Development Coordinator for Nyanga, Mr Nyashadzashe Zindove, confirmed that 19 houses were damaged. He said:
Basically, we have been affected mostly in Wards 21, 12 and 11. Apart from the four blocks at Nyafaru High School that had their roofs blown off, we also have 14 households that collapsed in the area.
In Nyanga urban, we have five houses that collapsed. We are in touch with those affected through local leadership and we should be able to give the necessary assistance in due course.
He said they established 31 evacuation centres prior to the heavy rains where people will bring their food and stay until necessary repairs are done to their homes.
In Chimanimani, a number of disaster preparedness mechanisms have been put in place including the provision of 86 evacuation centres.
This comes when memories of Cyclone Idai are still fresh in the minds of many who lost relatives, and or properties.
The tropical depression evolved in the Mozambique Channel on Sunday and gradually intensified into a Tropical Storm named Ana.
Tropical Storm Ana hit the Mozambique coast around noon on Monday with a maximum speed of 110 kilometres per hour.
The falling over land turned the tropical storm into an overland depression which gradually lost strength.-statemedia
By-The newly formed Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has caused panic within the ruling Zanu PF party.
Chamisa on Monday rebranded the MDC Alliance and dumped the traditional MDC brand.
The new Gold/Yellow branded political outfit has caused Zanu pF to panic ahead of the March 26 by-elections and next year’s national polls.
On Wednesday in Harare, Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa expressed shock over the new political party.
“What is in a name? A name does not change anything. “Your party has no organisational capacity, it fights every day, likes sanctions and it has not changed. If you liked sanctions, taking the name CCC does not mean that you do not like sanctions. You go with your sanctions,” he said.
“The party is not going anywhere,” he said. “Changing the name will not change the character of an infantile, anti-people, ‘dira jecharist’ and pro-sanctions party will not change. “When we go to the elections, they have very bad records of running down towns for two decades.
As Khupe led MDC T fields Zero candidates and MDC T led by Mwonzora failed to field 33 candidates
As Citizens Coalition for Change successful solves double candidates issue
As 2018 Komichi’s ghost of double candidates haunts MDC T led by Mwonzora

Yesterday, 26th January 2022, ZEC’s nomination court sat to receive candidates to contest on forthcoming by elections on 26th March 2022.
A four day newly launched political party called the Citizens Coalition for Change party defied all odds and successfully field candidates in all 143 areas where there are by elections.
According to ZEC , it is only President Chamisa’s popular party and Zanu PF that have managed to fields candidates in all constituencies.
Successful submission of nomination papers by Citizens Coalition for Change and Zanu PF has cemented that view that they are the only two big parties in Zimbabwe. However, President Chamisa claims dominance over Zanu PF president Mnangangwa basing on 2018 election results. President Chamisa and his party claimed victory in 2018, harmonised elections.
The yellow machine under leadership of President Chamisa has a symbol that shows it is number 1, most popular and loved party in Zimbabwe and beyond.
2022 by elections is a battle of supremacy between Zanu PF and Citizens Coalition for Change. MDC T led by Mwonzora’s failure to field candidates has thrown it under the bus.
On the factional ridden MDC T led by two presidents Mwonzora and Khupe has failed to field candidates.
The faction led by Khupe did not any candidate across Zimbabwe. One political commentator Mr Joshua Ndlovu said, “Dr Khupe’s party has no structures across Zimbabwe. It is regional party and failure to have candidates in these by elections shows lack of seriousness.”
On the other hand, MDC T faction led by Mwonzora failed to field candidates in 33 council and parliamentary candidates across Zimbabwe.
Interestingly, it is Mwonzora and Khupe who recalled elected representatives accusing them for joining MDC Alliance party led President Chamisa.
Mrs Linda Chuma argued that, “Mwonzora and Khupe have just embarrassed them by failing to field candidates in areas they have recalled candidates. This shows that, MDC T has failed to attract credible candidates in Zimbabwe political space.”
Mwonzora MDC T failed to field candidates in : Chivi North ward 8 and 24 council, Beitbridge wards 4 and 5. Interesting , in ward 4 Beit bridge Mwonzora recalled popular Mayor Morgen Ncube and then failed to field candidate in that ward.
In Chinyoyi, MDC T led by Mwonzora failed to field candidates in four wards out of six.
In ward 7 Avondale, MDC T led by Mwonzora failed to field a council candidate.
In parliamentary constituencies, MDC T led by Mwonzora failed to field candidates in Mberengwa South and Mwenezi East. One resident in Mberengwa South said, “MDC T led by Mwonzora has no structures in Mberengwa as a result it has failed to field candidates.”
2018 Komichi’s ghost of double candidates haunts MDC T led by Mwonzora. For example in Masvingo urban ward 7, MDC T led by Mwonzora has two candidate Charles Chipetu and Getrude Chuma. Also, in Kwekwe ward 8, MDC T has two candidates. In 2018, Komichi signed for double candidates under MDC Alliance and again in 2022, Komichi signed double candidates for MDC T.
On the hand, Citizens for Coalition for Change , has double candidates candidates in three wards namely in Masvingo (one) and Bulawayo (two). However, Citizens Coalition for Change secretary general Charlton Hwende apologized to the supporters and members and promised to rectify the problem of double candidates within next 48 hours. On issue of double candidates, Secretary General Hwende, wrote on his Twitter, “We will resolved the remaining two !!. No more double candidates in the NEW. In the next 48hours we will be bringing good NEWs.”
From the above message, it is clear that one candidate has withdrew has agreed to withdrew his nomination papers today. It means there are two wards that have candidates who are still to withdrew their papers. According to ZEC regulations, a candidate is the only one who is supposed to withdrew his / her nominations paper within seven days after the close of nomination court.
President Nelson Chamisa is on record and promised Zimbabweans that his party will never field double candidates.
By-The newly formed Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has shaken Zanu PF.
Chamisa on Monday rebranded the MDC-Alliance and gave it a new name, CCC.
The new political outfit, which comes with Gold/Yellow colours has moved the ruling Zanu PF party, ahead of the March by-elections and next year’s national elections.
Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa on Wednesday, for the first time, talked about the new opposition movement.
