Border Officials Build Huge Mansions

Border officials from Beitbridge are under investigation after building mansions in Harare.

Zimra is investigating three Beitbridge-based revenue officers who built mansions in Harare, but failed to account to their employer how they raised the money following a lifestyle audit.

The revenue authority could, however, not release the names of the officers since the matter is still under investigation.

This emerged during a stakeholders’ workshop on the progress made in the fight against corruption held in Bulawayo on Friday.

Presenting a lifestyle audit report to parliamentarians and other stakeholders during the meeting, Zimra loss control manager Mr Selleck Mapfeka said lifestyle auditing or monitoring is a basic comparison of one’s proceeds or sources of income against how it is utilised.

It is an accountability tool which is conducted when the visible lifestyle or standard of living of an individual appears to exceed their known income levels.

“We are currently investigating three officers who built mansions in Harare, but failed to explain how they acquired the wealth following a lifestyle audit,” he said.

Mr Mapfeka said corruption is more pronounced at Beitbridge Border Post and urged Government to consider extending the lifestyle audits to other stakeholders operating at the border post.

“We also have another officer who built a block of flats and he has since resigned.

The lifestyle audit also revealed that some Zimra revenue officers based in Beitbridge had six properties acquired through shady deals at the border,” he said.

Mr Mapfeka also mentioned the case of a former Beitbridge based Zimra revenue officer Mr Kennedy Nyatoti, who made history by becoming the first person to lose assets under the country’s civil-based asset forfeiture law when his US$150 000 mansion in Harare and US$10 000 car were forfeited to the State.

Nyatoti joined Zimra in 2014 aged 25 and two years down the line he got married and paid lobola of US$10 000. In 2017, he took his family for a holiday in China and spent US$15 000.

During the same year, Nyatoti bought a residential stand for US$24 000 and under-declared that it was worth US$18 000. He built and completed his house in five months.

“We investigated Kennedy Nyatoti, who was based at Beitbridge Border Post, which is a major a hot spot for corruption, and he failed to explain the source of his wealth following a lifestyle audit,” he said.

Mr Mapfeka said Nyatoti’s ill-gotten wealth emanated from fraudulently clearing immigrants’ rebates for people not qualifying to bring in goods duty-free under the rebate facility.

After Nyatoti failed to declare his assets, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) made a court application for civil forfeiture in terms of the amended Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act.

The High Court then ordered forfeiture of the mansion and the car.

Police recovered the forfeited assets and subsequently handed them over to the Zimra asset management unit.

Previously, the State could only apply for forfeiture after a conviction for a corruption-related offence.

However, the law now allows the State to apply for forfeiture under civil rules even without instituting criminal proceedings.

“We need a lifestyle audit for all border stakeholders.

While as Zimra, we conduct lifestyle audits for our staff, others seconded at the ports of entry are not conducting lifestyle audits,” he said.

“In fact, you have someone deployed at Beitbridge border and shockingly, within a short period of time, they are now driving posh cars and building mansions.

We need to fight corruption to the end.

We are, therefore, saying all people deployed the ports of entry should be subjected to lifestyle audits.”

Mr Mapfeka said most of the assets are being recovered through inter-agency collaborations and involvement of the NPA through prosecutor-guided investigations.

“We don’t have a centralised property database where all properties can be looked at.

For instance, if you go to the Deeds Registry, they have what they have,” he said.

“Similarly, if you go to the land developers and councils, it is same story hence when it comes to investigations, it is a challenge.”

Mr Mapfeka said when they conduct a lifestyle audit, they expect a person to explain his or her source of wealth.

“There is nothing wrong in owning properties, but there is something terribly wrong if you can’t explain your source of wealth either.

Anything that is acquired using ill-gotten wealth is tainted property,” he said.

Mr Mapfeka said a lifestyle audit is one of the critical tools that they use in as far as dealing with corruption is concerned.

“Assets are checked against the asset declaration form.

When you are recruited by Zimra, the first thing you are required to do, is to complete an asset declaration form that will form the basis of any lifestyle audit,” he said.

“If the loss control division is going to carry out a lifestyle audit, they will use that as a baseline. Proof of source of wealth should be produced in all lifestyle audits and we continue to record success stories.”

Mr Mapfeka said Zimra set up an integrity committee in 2019 including an in-house corruption diagnosis tool, which was developed to measure corruption.

“In the past, we used to measure corruption based on the number of prosecutions, but we realised that we were not getting the intended results.

We are now measuring our efforts in fighting corruption and we come up with a corruption index every quarter,” he said.

“We are now using the Integrated Results-Based Management and every employee of Zimra is measured on the level of corruption at the end of every quarter.

On lifestyle audits, we also do recruitment vetting, parallel financial investigations and asset forfeiture and recovery.”

Zimra also has a hotline, which is managed by a third party for people to use to report corruption.

Before it was stopped last December, the revenue collector had a whistle-blower facility where Zimra would pay the whistle-blower 10 percent of the recoveries.

Zimra acting Commissioner for Revenue Assurance Mr Edward Phiri said as part of efforts to fight the scourge, they have launched anti-corruption campaign dubbed “#I’m for zero campaign” to promote zero tolerance to corruption.

The Zimra Revenue Assurance Investigation Division carries out criminal investigations regarding alleged violations of the tax and customs laws.

“We have been going around the country doing ‘I am for zero campaigns’, which we have done in Mutare, Beitbridge, Bulawayo and Harare and this week we will be in Masvingo.

This is an initiative that we have taken as we try to address this scourge,” said Mr Phiri.

“The revenue assurance division, which has an anti-money laundering unit, has the responsibility to deal with offences that spill from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit, Zacc, police and other law enforcement agents.”

It also emerged during the meeting that out of 254 cases being handled by NPA, a majority of them are from Harare.

A total of US$50 million was also recovered from conviction-based asset forfeiture in 2021 and police say they arrested 495 suspects for corruption-related cases in the same year.-Chronicle

Nurses, Teachers Protest At Poor Salaries

Doctors, nurses and teachers across Zimbabwe went on strike Monday, as the country’s latest financial crisis has left their salaries almost worthless.

Nurses earn 18,000 Zimbabwe dollars per month, which is now worth only about US$55 at the official exchange rate.

Teachers do slightly better, at about $75 a month.

“The reality is that health workers are underpaid. The workers are struggling to make ends meet,” said Tapiwanashe Kusotera, leader of the health workers’ union.

Health workers protested outside the offices of the Health Services Board, located in one of the country’s biggest hospitals, waving placards and singing.

Riot police were stationed within the facility, as patients lay unattended in corridors and outside the hospital.

“Our health services board, which is our employer, and the Ministry of Health have totally refused to talk to the health workers,” said Zimbabwe Nurses Association head, Enock Dongo.

The government last week said it would double the salaries of all civil servants, but Dongo said no formal offer had been made.

“You don’t need to be told that the salary that you are receiving is not enough,” said Dongo. “It is now clear that the members want to totally withdraw their labour.”

Teachers on Monday also called a five-day strike, according to a statement from the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe.

“We cannot continue to be an embarrassment in our community as a result of the poverty that the government believes should remain as part of our working lives,” the statement said.

Patients in Zimbabwe’s public hospitals already have to buy their own supplies to bring to the long-neglected wards.

“The hospital had even ordered us to buy gloves, bandages and paracetamol for my sister but now the nurses have gone,” said one patient’s relative, who requested anonymity.

Runaway inflation in Zimbabwe topped 131 percent in May, reviving memories of hyperinflation seen more than a decade ago. Prices ran so out of control that the central bank in 2008 had issued 100-trillion-dollar note, which has now become a collectors’ item.

The government then ditched the local currency and adopted the US dollar and the South African rand as legal tender.

But in 2019 the government reintroduced the Zimbabwean dollar, which is already rapidly declining in value.- Bulawayo 24

Tagwirei In Fresh Multimillion-Dollar Corruption Scandal

By Daily Maverick- Two weeks after its representatives met Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Lafarge Cement announced last week that it had secured a buyer for its 76.45% stake in Zimbabwe’s second-largest cement manufacturer.

The sell-off was no surprise to the market as Lafarge’s holding company, Holcim, had announced in January that exiting the Zimbabwe market could be next in line after similar divestments in Ghana, Brazil, Malawi and Zambia.

Five bidders were shortlisted by Lafarge, including three Chinese companies, an unnamed African billionaire and a Zimbabwean firm, Fossil Mines.

From the list, the Chinese company Huaxin Cement was widely reported as the front-runner to buy the listed Zimbabwe cement maker after it bought Lafarge Zambia and Lafarge Malawi last year.

But markets were shocked on Monday last week when Lafarge announced that it had entered into a binding sale agreement with Fossil Mines, a company run by Obey Chimuka, a business associate of Tagwirei.

An investigative report on Tagwirei’s expanding business empire in Zimbabwe, released by The Sentry in July 2021, revealed the close business links between him and Chimuka, with the latter having sat on boards of businesses linked to Tagwirei such as Sotic International and Landela Mining.

Fossil Mines, which has no track record in manufacturing, has been a beneficiary of multimillion-dollar public works contracts including road infrastructure projects such as the Beitbridge Highway and the Mbudzi interchange in Harare.

Last year, Fossil bought a 4.4% stake in Great Dyke Investments (GDI), a $3-billion platinum mine project that was until this week jointly owned by Russia’s Vi Holding and Kuvimba Mining House, a company heavily linked to Tagwirei.

As news of the major “triumph” by Fossil to acquire Lafarge swept through the markets in Harare on Monday, Vi Holding announced that it was pulling out of GDI and its 47.8% stake would be ceded to its Zimbabwean partners, Kuvimba and Fossil, again.

GDI had planned to start production in 2021 with output reaching 860,000 tonnes per annum to become Zimbabwe’s largest platinum producer.

But the company has been struggling to raise the $500-million required for the first phase of the project, in part due to the involvement of sanctioned Tagwirei and the Russians.

“The decision to exit the project is in connection with global sanctions of Western countries against Russia, which naturally applies to Russian investments abroad,” the company said.

The Zimbabwean government claims it controls Kuvimba, but its assets, which include gold, nickel and platinum, are the same as those owned at least until 2020 by Sotic International, a company linked to Tagwirei, who has been sanctioned by the US and UK over corruption allegations.

The Zimbabwe government claims Tagwirei is not involved in Kuvimba, with the state holding a 65% stake and the remainder belonging to Ziwa Investments, another privately registered Zimbabwean company.

But questions still linger about how the government funded the purchase of $2-billion worth of mining assets that were until December 2020 owned by Tagwirei’s Sotic International.

Some Zimbabwean government and mining industry officials said Tagwirei and the government created Kuvimba to shield the businessman’s mining companies from the US and British financial sanctions that would have crimped their operations.

South Africa’s Impala Platinum, which until 2006 owned the concession before relinquishing it under pressure from Robert Mugabe, had been courted to join the GDI consortium, but turned down the offer over a lack of transparency in the shareholding structure and for fear of being implicated in the sanctions.

“The face of Tagwirei in the GDI picture has affected access to funding for this mining project at a time when GDI requires additional capital injection. The lack of transparency on who is the owner of Kuvimba Mining House has negatively affected efforts to attract a new funding partner for the Darwendale mine.

“Investors fear that Kuvimba Mining House is being used to mask the face of the military in the project,” reads a recently released report by a non-profit, the Centre for Natural Resource Governance. DM

Mnangagwa Lifts COVID-19 Midnight Curfew

By- Harare Tuesday lifted the COVID-19 midnight curfew citing “satisfactory progress” in the containment of the global pandemic.

Acting Information Minister Jenfan Muswere announced this during a post-Cabinet media briefing.

He said business hours for the hospitality industry are now from 8 am to 3 am the following day.

Muswere said:
While enforcement of Covid-19 regulations must continue, the curfew which is currently running from 12 midnight to 5:30 am has been lifted.
The curfew was introduced at the height of the pandemic as a precautionary measure to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Part of the reasoning behind abolishing movements at night was to minimise social contact during the hours with minimum authority supervision.

As of 20 June 2022, Zimbabwe had 254 919 confirmed cases, including 247 649 recoveries and 5 536 deaths. A total of 6 264 867 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, neighbouring South Africa is also considering lifting COVID-19 regulations as cases and deaths have been declining in recent weeks.
South Africa is the most affected African country with more cases and fatalities.

What You Need To Know About Mental Health

Mental health is critically important to everyone, everywhere.

All over the world, mental health needs are high but responses are insufficient and inadequate.

The World mental health report: transforming mental health for all is designed to inspire.

WHO highlights urgent need to transform mental health and mental health care

No health without mental health
Mental health is a lot more than the absence of illness: it is an intrinsic part of our individual and collective health and well-being.

As this “World Mental Health Report” shows, to achieve the global objectives set out in the WHO “Comprehensive mental health action plan 2013–2030” and the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to transform our attitudes, actions and approaches to promote and protect mental health, and to provide and care for those in need.

We can and should do this by transforming the environments that influence our mental health and by developing community-based mental health services capable of achieving universal health coverage for mental health.

As part of these efforts, we must intensify our collaborative action to integrate mental health into primary health care.

In so doing, we will reduce suffering, preserve people’s dignity and advance the development of our communities and societies.

Our vision is a world where mental health is valued, promoted and protected; where mental health conditions are prevented; where anyone can exercise their human rights and access affordable, quality mental health care; and where everyone can participate fully in society free from stigma and discrimination.

Mnangagwa Claims Moreblessing Ali Murder Was Stage-Managed

Tinashe Sambiri|Controversial Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has shocked all and sundry after claiming the murder of CCC
activist Moreblessing Ali was “stage- managed as a way of tarnishing the country’s image.”

Mr Mnangagwa accused CCC of attempting to tarnish the nation’s image ahead of a Commonwealth conference in Rwanda.

He made the remarks at the late national hero, Major General Sydney Bhebhe’s burial, at the heroes’ acre on Monday.

Mr Mnangagwa, quoted by ZBC News said:

“What happened recently in the Nyatsime Township of Chitungwiza is deplorable and should never be repeated.

The nation is now familiar with these shenanigans and incidences of staged violence, which are designed to tarnish the image of Zimbabwe, especially ahead of major international meetings.

This time, the destabilising and violent theatrics by opposition elements are being done ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Rwanda.

Shame on you, if you are the leader of a political party which thrives on violence and the insecurity of our people, to be relevant. Shame – shame – shame on you!”

Lord Oates Reprimands Mnangagwa Over Persecution Of Political Rivals

Tinashe Sambiri|British Parliamentarian, Lord Jonathan Oates, has described as deplorable the manner in which the Zanu PF regime is tormenting opposition members.

Lord Oates is a member of the British House of Lords.

He challenged Mr Mnangagwa to stop tormenting political opponents.

Lord Oates posted on Twitter:

“Does
@edmnangagwa
have any idea how damaging these images are to Zimbabwe’s reputation around the world.

Why are remand prisoners who pose no flight being risk put in leg irons? Come to think of it why are they under arrest at all?”

He was responding to one Patrick Jachi tweet below:
Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole arrive at court in leg irons!

There is no rule of law in Zimbabwe!
They are being treated like criminals while the real criminals in ZANU PF are busy looting, murdering and abducting citizens! Zimbabwe will be free”

Time To End Decades Of Zanu PF Failure, Declares President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri| The county’s education system is in the graveyard, CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

In a statement on Tuesday, President Chamisa bemoaned the demise of the country’s health sector.

The CCC leader also presented a comprehensive transformation of the economy plan.

See full statement below:

OUR RAPID & ACCELERATED TRANSFORMATION OF THE ECONOMY PLAN

The CITIZENS government will come up with policy framework and turnaround strategy which among others includes the following:

  1. Develop demand driven policies informed by inclusive policies and inclusive politics anchored upon an inclusive dialogue with all political actors, economic players, labour, business, civil society and academia with a view to build A NEW CONSENSUS and buy-in.
  2. Our policies will be predictable, consistent and guarantee certainty – this will help citizens, economic agents, workers, business and investors to plan with certainty.
  3. The corrupt will be an endangered species and extinct. We will eliminate corruption, enforce rule of law, foster political tolerance, constitutionalism and respect of property rights, which, combined, are critical ingredients required to attract investment, savings and production.

4.Resolving the debt crisis in Zimbabwe by engaging the multilateral community and opening Zimbabwe to the world.

5.We will make Zimbabwe an entrepreneurial society- new industries, new factories and new companies and new sectors and employing more.

6.We will embark on radical Central Bank reforms on the back of wide consultation with bankers, business and labour.

7.We will start with full dollarization and then create a conducive environment and the right confidence levels for the adoption of our local currency.

As part of our de-dollarisation road map we will make sure that we meet the following: (i) fiscal consolidation; (ii) current account surplus; (iii) 6 months import cover (forex reserves); (iv) stable exchange rate; (v) single digit inflation; and (vi) productive and competitive economy.

  1. On the back of a well functioning economy, powered by production and stable macroeconomic environment, we will provide a dynamic social services which inter alia includes a robust heath and education system, well functioning welfare system and a highly rewarding civil service which will attract workers from the private sector.

The monster and beast we are taming;
9.In 2018 annual inflation was 5% but the regime has guided inflation to 837.5% in July 2020 and somehow managed to drop inflation to 55% in July 2021 after having used hard earn foreign currency from the exporters to bribe the economy by dishing it our at unreasonably controlled rates – now they have run out of steam annual inflation is now raking havoc again and shot to 132% in May 2022 – its not turning back;

  1. Prof Mthuli 2019 budget was $8.1 billion but has shot up by 11900% to $960 billion in 2022 – its unprecedented! Fun enough salaries have not risen by the same magnitude.
  2. Poverty levels as reported by ZIMSTAT shows that people in extreme poverty has risen from 29% (4.64 million people) to 49% (7.9 million people), that is, an additional 69% of the population was pushed into extreme in the last 4 years.
  3. Civil servants were earning US$540 but teachers are now taking home ZWL$30,000 which is equivalent to US$42 …
  4. Hospitals are now death traps …women are being asked to buy consumables for them to be registered to give birth;
  5. Likewise, the education system is in the graveyard. Parents have assumed the role of government by paying teachers incentives with a view to arrest the situation.
  6. War veterans and pensioners have been reduced to beggars.
  7. Corruption has reached alarming levels. The recent audit on COVID funds shows that the monies were squandered and the targeted vulnerable people never received anything.

Failure is written everywhere and all over
This time let’s end and fix this !!

Zanu PF MPs “Plot” Mudenda Ouster

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF MPs are reportedly caucusing and canvassing for support and votes to remove Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda.

Mudenda fell out of favour with ZANU PF bigwigs after reports that he was corrupt and involved in several murky deals from his time as Board Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe CAAZ to the ZESA Vic Falls land scandal .

ZANU PF and security agencies are also rumoured to be investigating Mudenda’s relationship with several Western embassies.

Sources who spoke to this reporter revealed that Mudenda’s statement calling for diaspora vote without addressing sanctions was motivated by his compromised relations with Western embassies outside the government’s re-engagement policy.

Party Parliamentary bigwigs are reportedly canvassing for Mudenda’s immediate removal and  a young female candidate is being touted as Mudenda’s replacement.

A ZANU PF source said Mudenda has business interests with some Western embassies.

The monster and beast we are taming;
9.In 2018 annual inflation was 5% but the regime has guided inflation to 837.5% in July 2020 and somehow managed to drop inflation to 55% in July 2021 after having used hard earn foreign currency from the exporters to bribe the economy by dishing it our at unreasonably controlled rates – now they have run out of steam annual inflation is now raking havoc again and shot to 132% in May 2022 – its not turning back;

  3. Civil servants were earning US$540 but teachers are now taking home ZWL$30,000 which is equivalent to US$42 …
  4. Hospitals are now death traps …women are being asked to buy consumables for them to be registered to give birth;

British MP Questions Opposition Stalwarts Persecution

By A Correspondent- British Parliamentarian, Lord Jonathan Oates, has described as deplorable the manner in which the Zanu PF regime is tormenting opposition members.

Lord Oates is a member of the British House of Lords.

He challenged Mr Mnangagwa to stop tormenting political opponents.

Lord Oates posted on Twitter:

“Does @edmnangagwa have any idea how damaging these images are to Zimbabwe’s reputation around the world.

Why are remand prisoners who pose no flight being risk put in leg irons? Come to think of it why are they under arrest at all?”

He was responding to one Patrick Jachi tweet below: Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole arrive at court in leg irons!

There is no rule of law in Zimbabwe!
They are being treated like criminals while the real criminals in ZANU PF are busy looting, murdering and abducting citizens! Zimbabwe will be free”

CITY OF HARARE CAPITULATES, RELEASES MOTORIST’S ILLEGALLY SEIZED VEHICLE

Case Alert

CITY of Harare has capitulated and released a motorist’s vehicle which the local authority had illegally impounded on charges of violating municipal traffic laws.

On 9 June 2022, City of Harare municipal police officers accompanied by some Zimbabwe Republic Police officers blocked a Harare motorist Tinashe Shamuyashe’s Land Cruiser vehicle after he had stopped in the central business district to allow a passenger to disembark from his vehicle, charging that he had blocked other vehicles as he had stopped
on the road.

After the incident, Shamuyashe drove his vehicle to City of Harare’s Municipal Depot along Coventry road after some municipal police officers ordered him to accompany them and proceeded to issue him with a ticket totalling US$229 for committing a traffic offence which reflected that the prescribed penalty for obstruction of vehicles was US$50, tow-away fees of US$100, a storage fee of US$50 and value added tax amounting to US$29.

Upon questioning why he was being charged a tow-away fee when his vehicle was never towed away and a storage fee when his vehicle was never kept in storage, Shamuyashe did not receive a plausible response and instead he was referred to City of Harare’s Traffic Enforcement Offices at Trafalgar Court to make payment and was told that he could
only get his vehicle from the storage facility at Coventry road until he pays the stipulated fines.

This compelled Shamuyashe to engage Paidamoyo Saurombe of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who wrote a letter of complaint to City of Harare protesting against the levying of fines for services that the local authority had not provided and for unlawfully seizing his vehicle.

However, City of Harare ignored Shamuyashe’s letter and kept on holding his vehicle.

In response, Saurombe on Monday 13 June 2022 filed an urgent chamber application at Harare High Court seeking an order to compel the local authority to release Shamuyashe’s vehicle.

In the application, Saurombe argued that City of Harare’s conduct of charging for towing fees and storage fees, where those services have not been offered, was unlawful and that there is no law which provides for the deprivation of Shamuyashe’s property in the manner City of Harare had deprived him and that the Constitution protects him from unlawful deprivation.

The human rights lawyer contended that Shamuyashe was being inconvenienced together with his family from relying on the vehicle for their daily usage and this had forced them to use public transport.

The deprivation of the usage of his vehicle, Saurombe argued, was an infraction of Shamuyashe’s constitutional right to property enshrined in Section 71 of the Constitution.

On Thursday 16 June 2022, on the eve of the hearing and determination of the urgent application by High Court Judge Justice Neville Wamambo, officials from City of Harare capitulated and asked Shamuyashe to collect his vehicle and thereby ending the illegality.

“Chamisa Continues To Ignore Evidence”

By Nomusa Garikai- Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

The Lord God’s greatest gift to mankind is a discerning mind and with it, mankind has achieved many things. He has split the atom to its subatomic components to reveal the workings of matter. He has left earth to gaze into the vastness of space and sense of birth and death of stars.

Alas, some people have sat on their brain, and it has ossified into fat. They are now incapable of thinking and are given to repeating the same foolish mistakes over and over again.

“HOPE EVERYWHERE…It’s not easy to carry the hopes of all generations and the entire nation. Our parents in the rural areas are pinning their hopes on us,” wrote Nelson Chamisa, President of CCC (MDC rebranded) on Twitter.

“The task is huge. Friends, help me to pray for wisdom and strength to deliver a New Great Zimbabwe! WIN we shall! Happy Sabbath #fakapressure #Godisinit

GOKWE is an interesting place! #fakapressure.”

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect Chamisa and his MDC friends on the understanding the party would deliver the democratic changes to end the Zanu PF dictatorship.

After 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC leaders have failed to deliver even one token reform. Not one!

Why?

Chamisa and company have ignored calls from SADC, the EU, the Commonwealth and many others, for MDC to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.

Zanu PF has refused to produce a verified voters’ roll, denied 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, etc.; proof the party is once again rigging these elections.

Chamisa and company continue to ignore the evidence in favour of their oxymoronic belief in winning rigged elections!

After 42 years of rigged elections, history is set to repeat itself. Zanu PF will rig and win the 2023 elections. By insisting on participating in these flawed and illegal elections CCC will once again give Zanu PF legitimacy.

“Win we shall! God is in it!” No, He is not in any of this! God is disappointed to see the tragic suffering of ordinary Zimbabwean because of decades of Zanu PF misrule and disappointed with MDC/CCC leaders’ repeated failure to end the Zanu PF dictatorship.

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends are hell bent on participating in these flawed and illegal elections out of ignorance, ossified brain, and greed. Zanu PF has offered a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate.

The message that Zanu PF is rigging the elections and that participating only gives Zanu PF legitimacy must be repeated a thousand times. No one, especially Chamisa and company must never say they did not know they are brain-dead and selling outs.

God gave mankind a discerning mind, He would never approve His gift being wasted, ossified into fat!

RBZ Clears Foreign Currency Auction Backlog- REPORT

By A Correspondent- The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has cleared the foreign currency auction backlog with all allotments made by the end of May now fully funded and all successful bidders since then getting their money on time.

The Chief executive officer of the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe Mr Fanwell Mutogo told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Economic Development.

Last month, President Emmerson Mnangagwa issued a cocktail of measures to stabilise the economy. Among the measures was a directive to the central bank to clear the backlog and only auction available foreign currency each week to avoid creating another backlog.

The Herald, a state-run publication cites Mutogo as saying:

Ever since the adjustment (announced by the President) there has been no backlog since May 31; there has been no incremental rise in backlog.

At its peak, the backlog was approximately US$200 million. The shortage of foreign currency at the auction is said to be driving companies to the black market where they get forex at higher rates. This has been forcing businesses to raise the prices of their commodities in a bid to recoup incurred expenses.

Mutogo also commended the RBZ’s Financial Intelligence Unit for monitoring transactions in the banking sector and dealing with those that were abusing the foreign currency auction system for personal enrichment.

Byo Terror Gang Remanded In Custody

By A Correspondent- Two members of a four-man Bulawayo armed gang that terrorised Pelandaba and Gwabalanda residents last month have been remanded in custody to June 27 for commencement of trial.

Kelvin Njabulo Dube (30) of Pumula South and Prince Ndlovu (38) of Old Lobengula appeared last week before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Nobuhle Ndlovu and were not asked to plead.

Prosecutor Portia Mshungu told the court that on May 11, the suspects, in the company of their co-accused who are still at large, broke into Siphathisiwe Nyoni’s house in Pelandaba West.

The robbers were allegedly armed with machetes, knives and axes. They managed to gain entry after forcibly opening the door with a sharp object and ordered Nyoni and her son into their bedroom where they demanded cash.

The gang allegedly stole US$1 000, R10 000 and two Samsung cellphones and an iPhone. They then drove off in Nyoni’s Nissan Tiida vehicle and their getaway vehicle, a Mazda Demio. The vehicles were later abandoned in the Glengara area, Bulawayo.

During the same night, Fortune Mpofu was sleeping with his family in Gwabalanda when he heard the external door being forced open.

A few minutes later, he heard their bedroom door being prised open and was attacked by the suspects who robbed them of an iPhone X5, iPhone 6s, MacBook laptop, Vivo Y3 cellphone and US$300.

The duo admitted to having committed several offences and their application for bail was opposed by the State at the Western Commonage Court.-newsday

ED Associate Beneficiary Of Controversial Firetrucks Tender

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s associate, Alyaksandr (Alexander) Zingman is said to be the ultimate beneficiary of the deal in which Zimbabwe will be buying firetrucks from Belarus.

The fire engines will be acquired from a Belarusian company owned by Zingman  who was named by Mnangagwa as Zimbabwe’s honorary consul in Belarus in 2019.

The unclear arrangement, which Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo said was a “government-to-government” agreement, could cost the councils over US$32 million with each truck being sold at US$464 296. each,

In a letter to town clerks, secretaries and CEOs dated June 20, Moyo’s local government ministry said each “rural local authority” would get one fire engine while “urban local authorities” would get two and “metropolitan local authorities” are in line to get three each.

Moyo, who is being accused of ordering the firetrucks without consultations with the municipalities, said the engines would “alleviate capital equipment shortages in local authorities.”

Government sources told ZimLive that the ultimate beneficiary of the tender contract is Zingman, a Belarusian mogul who has met Mnangagwa and members of his family more than a dozen times.

Zimbabwe has already bought 11 fire engines to fight forest fires from Zingman’s AFTRADE DMCC, a dealer selling Belarusian machines in Africa. Zingman personally delivered the equipment in June last year. The consignment also included five Toyota Hilux vehicles and 30 motorcycles.

Zingman previously linked to the arms trade has put together unclear deals which have seen Zimbabwe import agricultural equipment and buses worth tens of millions of dollars from Belarus.

This is happening when Harare residents have dragged Moyo to court after he pushed through a contract for a waste-to-energy project at the Pomona dumpsite at a cost of €304 000 000 (about US$320 million). The deal was signed with Netherlands-registered Geogenix BV, a company which has no prior experience in a similar project and has questionable financial capacity.

Geogenix BV is owned by Albanian Mirel Mertiri, who is under investigation in his own country for million-dollar corruption involving an incinerator project. Mertiri’s Zimbabwean partner is Dylesh Nguwaya, a controversial businessman with links to Mnangagwa’s twin sons Sean and Collins.

Local authorities argue that the concept of devolution adopted in a 2013 constitution was to allow them to plan their budgets at the local level, considering their most pressing projects.

Zanu PF Mulls Dissolving Marondera Cell Structures

By A Correspondent- The Zanu-PF leadership in Mashonaland East province is considering to dissolve its cell structures ahead of next year’s elections claiming they were not representative enough.

Addressing a provincial co-ordinating committee meeting in Marondera on Sunday, provincial chairperson Daniel Garwe said the party will set up new structures.

“Here in Marondera, we all know that the cell structures do favour only two individuals — I won’t mention their names. The cell structures should benefit the party, Zanu-PF and President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa. We are going to come up with fresh cell structures in Marondera,” Garwe said.

A Zanu-PF candidate, Ignatius Mateveke, lost to Citizens Coalition for Change candidate Caston Matewu in the March 26 by-elections.

The defeat did not go down well with some party members who accused some leaders of failing to mobilise enough support for the party. There are reports that some of the cell members voted for the opposition.

Meanwhile, a party mobilising team led by politburo member David Parirenyatwa will begin moving around the province starting today to mobilise people to register to vote.

It would also assist them get national identification documents.

Sikhala Questions State’s Use Of Leg Irons

By A Correspondent- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker Job Sikhala Monday took the state to task over its continued use of leg irons and cuffs on him and co-accused Godfrey Sithole, while armed robbers went unchained.

The two, who are charged with inciting public violence had their case rolled over to Wednesday by deputy chief magistrate Gibson Mandaza.

Prosecutor Michael Reza was forced to apologise on behalf of prison officers after Sikhala shouted from the dock that what he and his colleague were being subject to was unheard of.

The officers claimed they had misplaced keys to the leg irons before they were found.

“This is not right. Why are we in leg irons while armed robbers are walking uncuffed,” he complained.

As bail hearing continued, the duo’s lawyer, Alec Muchadehama demanded the release of the video in which his clients allegedly incited violence.

“The accused persons as we speak did not even see the video, so should they be denied bail for something they do not even know?

“The investigating officer even told the court that the video was later removed from social media while the accused were in police custody,” said Muchadehama.

Reza said the State will stick to the doctrine of common cause.

The magistrate said he will hand over his judgement on Wednesday.

Sikhala and Sithole face public violence charges after clashes rocked the funeral wake and memorial service of murdered CCC party activist Moreblessing Ali.

Ali’s body was found last week dismembered and thrown into a well at the home of claimed Zanu-PF supporter and murder suspect Pius Jamba

Prosecutors allege that Sikhala, who is also the Ali family lawyer, urged Zimbabweans to avenge the Ali’s murder in a video which went viral on social media.

For his part, Sithole, the CCC member of Parliament for Chitungwiza North, is charged with participating in inciting violence and arranging lorries which ferried party activists who attacked the homes of Zanu-PF supporters.

Latest On Belarus Fire Tenders. Mafume Breathes Fire

By A Correspondent- Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has lamented how the local government ministry procured fire tenders without any consultation with the local authority.

Said Mafume:

“Our councils were not consulted. The essence of devolutionis for local people to make their own decisions.

Some councils can’t even manage a fire brigade!

Thecost can build clinics & is astronomical.”

Conductors Who Tried To Bribe Cops Jailed 6months

By A Correspondent- Eight commuter omnibus conductors who were arrested over the weekend for trying to bribe traffic police by paying them amounts ranging from US$2 to US$5 were sentenced to six months in prison by Harare magistrate Noticia Shenge.

The conductors, Hamphry Midzi (22), Godknows Nyawata (24), Abisha Kamwaya (28), Tinotenda Matuvha (23), Bothwell Jack (18), Tadiwa Webster Homotso (19), Tinotenda Bhudala (19) and Raphael Zinyama (33) had their 12-year sentences suspended to six months on condition that they do not commit the same offences in five years.

NewsDay’s Desmond Chingarande reports that the conductors will, therefore, serve effective six-month jail terms.

Magistrate Shenje said she took note that bribery offences were on the rise, adding that the court does not condone corruption. She said:

The court is of the view that a deterrent sentence in the form of a custodial sentence will send a clear message to would be offenders and that bribing police officers is a serious offence.

The conductors were arrested on June 16 this year at around 8 am when their buses were stopped at police roadblocks around Harare.

The convicts disembarked from their buses and approached police officers and gave them varying amounts of United States dollars from US$2 to US$5 as bribe money for free passage at roadblocks.

This led to their arrests. Some members of the public are expressing concern over the arrests of those who engage in petty corruption while individuals who are “stealing millions” from state coffers remain untouched.

To date, several political elites have been arrested over corruption and a huge fraction of them was released after the state failed to provide compelling evidence against them.

Bogus Real Estate Agent Nabbed

By A Correspondent- Bogus real estate agent Jacqueline Gijima (34) has been arraigned before the courts for duping a desperate land seeker of US$28 000.

Gijima was yesterday remanded out of custody to June 30 on free bail by Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.

The complainant in the matter is Knowledge Homwe.

Allegations are that sometime in November 2021, Gijima masqueraded as a real estate agent and was informed by Edwin Mhlanga, a site agent for Damofalls Investments (Private) Limited, that stand number 1391 Chiremba Park, Hatfield, Harare, was being sold by its owner.

Mhlanga then showed the accused the residential stand, but did not disclose the owner’s particulars.

Gijima allegedly connived with Clive Mandizha and Nyasha Onward Chamwaura (also arrested) and Lawrence Taurai Jena (still at large) to advertise online that Mandizha was selling residential stand number 1391 Chiremba Park, Hatfield, Harare.

Homwe responded to the advertisement and gave the accused and his accomplices directions to his Globe House offices at number 51 Jason Moyo Avenue, Harare.

He was shown the land in Hatfield and was told that it was being sold for US$30 000.

On November 24, Homwe went to Mandizha’s office and deposited US$10 000 and was issued with a receipt. The parties agreed that he would pay monthly instalments of US$5 000.

An agreement of sale was allegedly entered into, but it was not signed by the stand owner.

It is said another person, identified only as Chamwaura, then masqueraded as the stand owner (Samson Makorera). Chamwaura then produced a photocopy of a fake national identity card with his photograph in the name of Makorera.

An agreement of sale was signed by Homwe and Chamwaura as the seller.

Homwe was, however, tipped-off that he had been duped, leading to the arrest of Mandizha and Chamwaura on March 8 this year.  Gijima was also arrested.

It is alleged that the accused suffered a prejudice of US$28 000 and nothing was recovered.

Zim Diasporans To Miss Out On 2023 General Elections

Civil society organisations (CSOs) have decried the discrimination of diasporans who will not vote in the 2023 general elections because the country has not reformed its electoral laws.

There have been loud calls from different sections of society demanding amendments to the country’s Electoral Act to allow for the diaspora vote in next year’s general elections.

In its first electoral reform series titled Diaspora Vote in Zimbabwe: Feasibility versus Desirability, civic society group Tutuma Zimbabwe said people in the diaspora will not vote next year, because Zimbabwe has failed to effect constitutional and Electoral Act amendments.

“One way of granting Zimbabweans residing outside the country the right to vote is to amend the Constitution of Zimbabwe and ensure that there is an express provision to this effect. After this amendment, subsequent amendments to the Electoral Act have to be made, which will clearly lay down the procedures on how citizens residing outside the country will be registered and how they will vote on the polling day,” the Tutuma Zimbabwe study said.

“This includes putting in place all the logistical requirements needed to facilitate external voting and external voter registration. Alternatively, the legislature can amend the Electoral Act to allow registration and voting by Zimbabweans residing outside the country. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission can also make additional administrative regulations to this effect.”

Election Resource Centre programmes manager Solomon Bobosibunu told NewsDay that it was too late to call for the diaspora vote before next year’s elections.

“It’s not justifiable, but practically it’s no longer possible. The timeframe left between now up to the time Zimbabwe can promulgate laws that will be used in an election means that we might be behind time. If all the laws are not enacted by January 2023, then ultimately those laws will not see the light of the day.

“There is no longer sufficient time for amendments to the Electoral Act to be done; we lost a lot of time without even taking any action around the Diaspora vote. This should have been started around 2018-2019. Now we are only left with five months before 2023,”Bobosibunu said.

Zimbabwe Election Support Network (Zesn) chairperson Andrew Makoni said:  “The diaspora vote is one of the reforms being pushed alongside other reforms. Parliament has until the end of the year 2022 to agree to electoral reforms and pass the necessary law. There is still time for the electoral reforms to be made. However, it will be up to Parliament to consider the diaspora vote or not. As Zesn we have been pushing for a law allowing all citizens to exercise their right to vote despite their location.”

RBZ Moves In As Bread Situation “Reaches Another Level”

THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) yesterday directed that bread prices should be reviewed downwards from $640 in line with the official foreign currency exchange rate and global trends.

This follows a meeting earlier yesterday between the RBZ and the National Bakers Association of Zimbabwe to discuss bread prices and challenges of the cost of production they are facing.During the meeting, the RBZ agreed to avail foreign currency to bakers on a weekly basis.

Bread currently costs between $540 and $640 for a standard loaf, while super white bread costs$1 000.

Alternatively, it is pegged at between US$1,40 and US$1,70 at some retail outlets.

The price of bread has triggered a public outcry, with millers attributing the price hike to erratic wheat supplies due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Taking into account the submissions by the bakers association and the need to stabilise the price of bread, the bank agreed with the bakers association that its members would access their full requirements of foreign exchange through the weekly foreign exchange auctions for importation of inputs and procurement of fuel for the distribution of bread across the country,” a statement from the central bank read.

“In view of the positive engagement with the bakers association, it is expected that members of the bakers association will review the price of bread downwards.

“Going forward, the price of bread will be adjusted on account of economic fundamentals that include the global price trends on inputs and the movement of the foreign exchange rate.”

NatPharm Struggles To Meet Drugs Demand

By A Correspondent- Government run National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) is reportedly struggling to meet demand for drugs at public health institutions, resulting in acute shortages of critical medicines across the country.

Last year, government gave NatPharm a monopoly to procure drugs, banning public institutions from purchasing drugs from private pharmaceutical companies.

This resulted in Natpharm getting overburdened and failing to meet demand.

Health ministry secretary Air Commodore Jasper Chimedza declared NatPharm the sole supplier of drugs for public health institutions in a circular dated December 13, 2021.

“Solicitations of these products from suppliers in the private sector should only be done after NatPharm confirmed inability to supply the products within the required period,” Chimedza said.

Public health sector stakeholders yesterday told NewsDay that NatPharm had, however, not admitted that it had no capacity to supply drugs to health institutions, despite many waiting for months for replenishment of out-of-stock drugs.

This has resulted in some hospitals turning away patients, especially those suffering from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and psychiatric patients due to drug shortages.

A pharmacist at a local public health institution who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “We have a serious shortage of drugs such as insulin and oral drugs for diabetic patients and those related to hypertension.

This has been going on for some months and we don’t remember when we last adequately attended to patients suffering from diabetes, for instance.

We get funds from government, but when we want to buy the supplies from NatPharm, we fail to get them. Sometimes, we get a fraction of the full quantities we would have ordered.

The challenge is that NatPham is not admitting that it is failing to provide the drugs.  We cannot purchase them from private companies as prescribed by government.”

Another medical superintendent added:

“The other challenge is that we are getting drugs with a very close expiry date. Some drugs we get won’t last for more than two months. Just recently, we got a consignment of drugs from NatPharm that are expiring next month.

We have plenty of them and we won’t have disbursed all of them by next month. We are definitely going to dispose of them yet we would have used funds.”

Health ministry spokesperson Donald Mujiri refused to comment on the matter and referred questions to NatPharm spokesperson Munyaradzi Masiiwa, who rubbished the claims saying it was a tactic by public health institutions to be allowed to purchase drugs from private pharmaceutical companies.

“NatPharm receives annual procurement plans for public health institutions and operationalises them. It is inaccurate that we supply short-dated medicines to hospitals. Short-dated medicines are only given to public health institutions as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, and are supplied for free to willing facilities.

Whenever we do a donation, hospitals request what they want to consume. Some of the public health institutions have received medicines on credit and to date more than $140 million worth of drugs have been supplied to public health institutions on credit.

It is, therefore, inaccurate for the institutions to claim that they bring money upfront to NatPharm for procurement of medicines,” Musiiwa said.-Newsday

Imprisoned Zim Man Dies Due To Neglect

By A Correspondent- A 21 year old man died due to neglect, after he was not given treatment for HIV while he was a prisoner at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Chelmsford, an inquest has determined. HIV is a “treatable” condition with the right care and no longer impacts the lifespan of suffers.

However, Thokozani Shiri, known as Thoko, died in April 2019 after pleading with prison staff to get him to hospital and after months of not receiving any medication for his condition. Thoko had been diagnosed with HIV in Zimbabwe in 2013 when he was a teenager before moving to the UK.

He spent two terms inside HMP Chelmsford the first between November and March 2018 where he received no medication or treatment for his condition until after his release.

He was then imprisoned again in March 2019 after stabbing a teenager during an altercation on a footpath in School Lane, Harlow, on October 8, 2018. Just two months later, on April 14, 2019, Thoko died.

An inquest into his death, before Her Majesty’s Assistant Coroner Michelle Brown, was held at Essex Coroners Court and concluded on June 8. The inquest heard that prison healthcare failed for months to provide anti-retroviral medication during those two periods of imprisonment that Shiri died from an HIV-related infection.

His treating consultant in the community gave evidence to the inquest saying that “Thoko was a young man”, that his HIV was “very treatable” and that his death “shouldn’t have happened”.

The jury was told that with his health deteriorating, on April 7, 2019, Thoko told a prison officer “I can’t breathe… I need to go to hospital”, but that an ambulance was not called until five days later.

A week after first making that request Thoko died at Broomfield Hospital. He was deemed vulnerable, having been treated for HIV before being imprisoned, and this was exacerbated by his dependency upon prison healthcare to provide him with life-saving medication.

In his first spell in prison, he received no medication for his HIV while in his second he only began to receive treatment in March 2019, just 19 days before his death. The prison healthcare provider, Essex Partnership University Trust (EPUT), said it had been aware during both imprisonments that Shiri had HIV.

When reaching their conclusions, the jury found that five separate failings had probably caused Thoko’s death. The failures identified by the jury included a failure to provide anti-retroviral medication to Thoko during both periods of imprisonment, a failure to refer him to an HIV clinic during both periods of imprisonment, and other systemic failings.

The jury also concluded that each of those five areas of failure amounted to neglect, with the jury identifying a gross failure to provide basic medical attention to Thoko, who was in a dependent position, and that this failure had caused his death.

The prison officer who Thoko pleaded with to go to hospital has not been identified, and despite his family asking for the prison to provide and keep hold of the CCTV footage of the incident, the tape was overwritten and was therefore unavailable to be used in evidence at the inquest.

Coroner Brown was so concerned over this, and the fact that a senior prison governor appeared not to understand the medical emergency policy during his evidence to the inquest, that a formal report on the prevention of future deaths addressing this point will be sent to the Secretary of State for Justice.

Prison governors admitted at the inquest hearings that a “Code Blue” (medical emergency) alert should have been triggered and an ambulance should have been called on April 7 and not five days later.

The inquest also heard that when Thoko’s mother Beauty Shiri’s arrived at the hospital on April 13, arrangements had not been put in place quick enough to allow her to see her son before his condition deteriorated. Thoko had already been put into an induced coma when his mother was finally able to see him, from which he tragically never regain consciousness before his death

The inquest heard that despite being comatose the prison continued to restrain him unnecessarily with handcuffs. When his mother was finally allowed to see him, he was chained to the bed and barely recognisable to her. She stayed at his side until he died 12 hours later.

The Prison and Probation Ombudsman concluded in a damning report that “this was a case in which a young man died a preventable death as a result of what I can only describe as neglect by healthcare staff, and whose mother was then treated with gross insensitivity by prison staff”.

In a statement, the Shiri family said: “Thoko was just like any young man– he loved life, his friends and family. He was exploring what the world had to offer him, but he ended up on the wrong side of the law, culminating in a short-term custodial sentence. As a family, we had great hopes that this would allow him to reflect and look to a brighter future.

“This was not to be, as a short-term prison sentence turned into a death sentence. Thoko was denied very basic care that would have enabled him to live his life despite his long-term condition. We are saddened as we know that people with his condition do not have a reduced life expectancy and that, with basic management, his condition was not fatal.”

Leigh Day solicitor Maya Grantham, who represents Beauty Shiri, said: “Thoko was a young man, who was dependent on EPUT to provide basic medical care that would have saved his life. However, despite knowing Thoko had HIV, that basic medical care was not provided by EPUT to Thoko during two separate periods of imprisonment.

“The circumstances of Thoko’s preventable death must never be repeated, and it is hoped that this inquest investigation has shone a light onto those circumstances to ensure that will be the case.” EPUT’s response

Paul Scott, chief executive officer for EPUT, said: “Our thoughts and condolences remain with Mr Shiri’s loved ones at this difficult time and we offer our sincere apologies that he didn’t receive the level of care expected.

“We no longer offer a prison service but are committed to learning lessons from this case and embedding them across our organisation to ensure that we provide the best possible care for all our patients.”

The trust ceased to provide its prison service in March 2019 following ‘a strategic review of its operations’.

Zanu PF Hires 20 Thugs To Nail Sikhala

By- The State has said that it has lined up 20 witnesses to testify against Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators Job Sikhala (Zengeza West) and Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North).

The two are accused of inciting members of the public to commit violence in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.

Prosecutor Michael Reza told Harare magistrate Felix Mandaza yesterday that Sikhala and Sithole mobilised Nyatsime residents to commit violence during the funeral wake of murdered CCC activist Moreblessing Ali last week.
Several properties were destroyed during the melee.
The duo’s lawyer, Alec Muchadehama argued that the State failed to give justifiable reasons why the MPs were being denied bail, adding that investigating officer Gift Mutamba failed to submit evidence proving that Sikhala and Sithole committed an offence, for instance, that they distributed fliers mobilising people to commit public violence.
“One previous conviction and substantiated by facts cannot be said that Sikhala is likely to commit another offence. The reason of joining the second accused person (Sithole) is also not explained,” Muchadehama submitted.
He said it was also impossible for the two MPs to mobilise people in Nyatsime to perpetrate violence when they were not legislators of that area.
“They are not village heads that can influence villagers. Only the Seke headman can influence people in that area,” Muchadehama argued.
He further argued that the words uttered by Sikhala while in Nyatsime were not incitement of violence, adding that the legislator was not likely to flee as his passport has been with the clerk of court since 2019.
Muchadehama proposed that his clients be granted $20 000 bail each.
Mandaza postponed the matter to tomorrow for bail ruling. Newsday

Sikhala, Sithole Persecution Persists

By-A Harare magistrate Monday denied bail to Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Members of Parliament, Job Sikhala and Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole.

They are accused of inciting public violence in Nyatsime.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Mr Gibson Mandaza ordered the two to spend two more nights in remand prison.

Sikhala and Sithole, who represent Zengeza West and Chitungwiza North constituencies, respectively, completed mounting their bail application, where they exposed the State.
.
The duo is being charged with incitement to commit public violence.

They also denied posting a video on social media mobilising their supporters to cause violence following the death of their party member Moreblessing Ali.

Ali was killed by Pius Jamba, who has since appeared in court charged with murder.

The State opposed granting bail to Sikhala and Sithole, saying they were likely to commit more offences.

The State also said that Sikhala allegedly committed the offence whilst he was on bail on similar charges.

Mr Michael Reza appeared for the State while Mr Alec Muchadehama and Mr Jeremiah Bamu represented Sikhala and Sithole.

RBZ Orders Bakeries To Lower Prices | Will It Work?

THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) yesterday directed that bread prices should be reviewed downwards from $640 in line with the official foreign currency exchange rate and global trends.
This follows a meeting earlier yesterday between the RBZ and the National Bakers Association of Zimbabwe to discuss bread prices and challenges of the cost of production they are facing.

During the meeting, the RBZ agreed to avail foreign currency to bakers on a weekly basis.

Bread currently costs between $540 and $640 for a standard loaf, while super white bread costs

$1 000.

“Going forward, the price of bread will be adjusted on account of economic fundamentals that include the global price trends on inputs and the movement of the foreign exchange rate.” -Newsday

The Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) donated US$18 000 while the Affirmative Action Group (AAG) chipped in with US$10 000 for the ruling party nationally.

Minister Chadzamira pledged $1 million while upcoming Masvingo entrepreneur James Pande donated $700 000. Men Believe in ED donated 2000 litres of fuel for party activities in Masvingo province.

Other Masvingo-based firms such as Byword Motors fronted by businessman Mr Sternly Kondongwe donated also in cash and kind towards the symposium.

Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chair Rabson Mavhenyengwa hailed the highly subscribed symposium saying it would galvanise efforts to grow the ruling party brand in Masvingo.

“We are happy that the symposium managed to unpack the revised Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment policy to our stakeholders in Masvingo and we hope this will stimulate the exploitation of new opportunities across our resource-rich province to engender socio-economic development.”

“We are also grateful for the cash donations and pledges into the national coffers of our party and also to Zanu PF Masvingo province. The fuel and cash donated to the party in the province will aid our ongoing mobilization drive and the initiative to verify our structures as we gear for 2023 harmonised elections,” said Mavhenyengwa.

At the symposium, there were also presentations on opportunities that abound in sectors such as agriculture and mining, among others.

ZAPU, Mthwakazi Clash Over Nkomo Legacy

By A Correspondent- The opposition Zapu party has ordered the secessionist  Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) to let the late former Vice-President Joshua Nkomo’s spirit  rest in peace and stop soiling his name.

This follows MRP leader Mqondisi Moyo’s attacks on Nkomo accusing him of turning down a chance to restore the Mthwakazi nation before independence in 1980.

Addressing a rally in Khame, Plumtree recently, Moyo said Nkomo spurned an offer to split the nation at the Lancaster House conference in 1979 because he thought he would win the country’s first one-man, one-vote elections in 1980.

“If Nkomo had agreed to that option during the talks, there was not going to be a thing called Gukurahundi. I always wonder why Nkomo took his ZPRA troops for training in Russia, Cuba, Algeria and Egypt; only to later call for a ceasefire. This is very saddening because (the late former President Robert) Mugabe and his friends did their homework, it is like they were two steps ahead of Nkomo in terms of thinking because immediately after he called for the ceasefire, they knew his army no longer had weapons and they struck,” Moyo said.

He said Nkomo’s decision was partly to blame for the killings of more than 20 000 civilians in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces during the Gukurahundi genocide of the 1980s.

But Zapu spokesperson Mso Ndlovu shot back saying opposition political parties must avoid unnecessary hostilities.

“We will not let these unprovoked utterances by Mqondisi go unchallenged. It will be a disservice to our people to allow an unprovoked display of public political malnutrition or kwashiorkor,” Ndlovu said.

“Firstly, Nkomo’s generation understood their mission and political cause, which was to liberate Zimbabwe. After executing that task, Nkomo would be an opportunist and turncoat to then seek a two-State solution after thousands of young men and women perished for Zimbabwe.

“Moyo is better advised to identify his cause and execute his mission to write his own history instead of seeking pleasure by misrepresenting a history he doesn’t understand,” Ndlovu said.

The MRP is pushing for reconstitution of the Mthwakazi nation through cessation from greater Zimbabwe.

He also appeared on “ChiKristu neTsika” on Radio Two, now Radio Zimbabwe, where he dissected Christian and African Traditional Religious beliefs with the late preacher Gift Mabhaudhi.

Mararike was once investigated for abuse of office for fraudulently awarding a PhD degree to former First Lady Grace Mugabe.
Grace graduated from UZ with a Doctor of Philosophy from the Faculty of Social Studies in September 2014. She was supervised by Mararike.
Her PhD sparked a storm of controversy as it was dismissed as fraudulently acquired.
The matter was investigated by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

No Health Without Mental Health

Nick Mangwana Apologises For Lying that Moreblessing Was Killed By A Boyfriend

By A Correspondent | Govt Spokesman Nick Mangwana has using a graphic red line strike on a piece of paper, apologised over his embarrassing comments alleging that the murdered CCC activist Moreblessing Ali was killed by a former boyfriend.

Writing after 3 weeks of posting falsehoods, Mangwana for the first time sounded out that he only commented based on information not his own, but that of government functionaries who made announcements based on word to lips witness allegations.

Zidane Speaks On World Cup Headbutt

French legend Zinedine Zidane has admitted he is ‘not proud’ of his headbutt on Italy’s Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final.

Zidane received a straight red card in the extra time after he headbutted Materazzi in the chest. The incident was his last-ever act on the pitch as a player as the ex-midfielder went to announce his retirement after the match.

Reflecting on the incident in an interview with Telefoot, as cited by 90 Min, the 49-year-old showed regret.

He said: “I’m not at all proud of what I did, but it’s part of my journey,” he said. “In life, not everything is done perfectly.

“The only one who could have contained me that evening was [Bixente] Lizarazu. It would have been massive to have him by my side, but you can’t rewrite the past.

“There are always difficult moments in football and this was one of them.”

The former Real Madrid boss also discussed the Panenka penalty which gave France an early lead in the final.

“I had a second or two to think about how to take it,” he said. “I had in front of me a goalkeeper who knows me really well so I had to think of something.

“In that effort, there was certainly technique, I don’t think there was madness. You can miss a penalty but in that moment it is what I had to do.”

Italy later grabbed an equaliser through Materazzi and went to win the match 5–3 on penalties to claim their fourth World Cup.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Tanzanian Club Dismisses Mighty Warriors Star

Mighty Warriors midfielder Danai Bhobo has reportedly been released by her Tanzanian club Simba SC Queens after breaching the terms of her contract.

According to the Herald, Bhobho, who signed a two-year contract in mid-2021, failed to return to the club after she had reported for national team duty in February this year.

The former Harare City player told her Tanzanian club that she wanted to attend to family issues and hasn’t reported for duty until now.

Simba did not acknowledge the absence and have now hit Bhobho with sanctions.

The 29-year-old will not play football at Simba again or be cleared to join other clubs until her two-year contract lapse in mid-2023.

A letter addressed to the player and signed by Simba’s Operation Manager, Belinda Paul, read:

“Reference is made to your previous requests, oral and written, demanding your release from Simba Sports Club to enable you solving your family matters.

“As you are aware, you left the club for national team duties and ever since you had never returned to perform your duties with the club pursuant to your contract ending next season.

“In your last correspondence, you asked for the release due to family commitments and undertook not to register with any other team nor engage further in international football. This is because you are still contracted with Simba Sports Club.

“By this letter, following your own request and on condition of not registering with any other team nor engaging yourself in international football for the whole contractual period, Simba Sports Club releases you without claiming any compensation from you. The club wishes you all the best in resolving/handling your family matters.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

I Am Lucky To Be Alive – Katsande

Veteran Zimbabwean midfielder Willard Katsande considers himself very lucky to be alive.

Salt and Vinegar, as he is affectionately known in South Africa where he turns out for Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership, was hijacked by three men near Southgate Mall in Soweto last Tuesday.

The 33-year-old midfield enforcer was with his nephew, Kelvin Katsande (22) when the three men pounced on them around 18:00.

Katsande says it was a horrific experience.

“We were near Southgate Mall, I was standing outside the car, and my nephew was inside,” Katsande narrated the ordeal to South African publication FarPost.

“Three men came to us with guns; they aggressively put me down. They dragged me on my knees on the tar; I have bruises from the dragging.

“I could feel the barrel of a gun at the back of my head and thought that was the end of my life. The other one pulled me with my private parts. It was a horrific experience,” added the former Warriors skipper.

Johannesburg has become a very unsafe place for Zimbabwean football stars.

Katsande was also hijacked and left injured in West Rand, a year ago.

His former Kaizer Chiefs teammate Khama Billiat, was robbed at gunpoint twice in the last five years.

Former national team defender Charles Yohane was murdered in a hijacking incident back in February.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Mental Health Important To Everyone

Erectile Dysfunctional Kadoma Gold Dealer Dumps Wife For A Slay-Queen

By James Gwati-A popular erectile dysfunctional Kadoma Gold dealer, Calvin Obert (28), has deserted his wife and now stays with a local slay-queen.

accused…Calvin Obert

Calvin deserted after his wife had complained that they should seek spiritual divine to save their three-year.

According to the disgruntled wife, Calvin has a severe erectile dysfunctional problem and uses s*x enhancement tablets for an erection.

She said she discovered Calvin’s problem the same week they got married.

The two got married in 2020 and have a one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl.

The wife said since 2020; she has been engaging her inlaws, but with no assistance.

“I discovered this the same week we got married and asked him why he did not tell me that he had such a problem. We stayed like that since 2020, and he never satisfied me in bed. Every time we wanted to make love, his manhood shrunk; for those years, I resorted to masturbating to relieve myself. He could get an erection only after taking some pills, but again, he could not ejaculate. We stayed like that for a year, with one knowing this, until I decided to go and tell his Mother. But surprisingly, she did not take any action. She only said that they would sort it out, and that was that,” she said.

” The problem worsened, and this time he started to have wet dreams and could only ejaculate in his sleep, and this made me believe that this was spiritual. I advised him that we should seek for prayers, but his Mother insisted on going ku N’anga, which also made the problem even worse,” she said.

Calvin’s wife said the situation deteriorated, and instead of paying attention to the problem, Calvin started cheating with a local girl named Lisa Chivende (pictured with Calvin).

Calvin with Lisa

” He used the same tricks of taking s*x enhancement pills and started seeing Lisa. I confronted him and his girlfriend, and they both apologised and promised they were ending their relationship. He stopped seeing Lisa for a week, and they re-engaged again. I told his Mother about this, and she said I had become too fat and too big for her son. This broke my heart, considering it was two years of staying without s*x with their son. I stood with him faithfully, hoping that one day it would work, but his family thanked me with these insults. I told them they should take me back to my parents if they no longer loved me, and they refused. I went back home for almost six months, and we slept in different rooms,” she narrated.

The betrayed young woman said she later decided to return to her parents after seeing that their relationship had become irreconcilable.

Contacted for comment, Calvin said he was busy to give an immediate response.

” Is that what she told you? Right now I am busy r as I am travelling to the mine. We clashed on several issues, and I will talk to you when I have time,” he said before terminating the call.

The two are still legally married.

“Nkomo’s Decision Partly To Blame For Gukurahundi”: Mthwakazi

By A Correspondent- The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has said late Vice President Joshua Nkomo’s decision to turn down an chance at splitting Zimbabwe into two, on tribal lines, is partly to blame for the murder of some 20 000 mainly Ndebele speaking people during the Gukurahundi genocide.

Late President Robert Mugabe’s North Korean trained 5th Brigade butchered civilians in the Midlands and Matabeleland provinces under the guise of searching for dissidents between 1983 and 1987.

Speaking at a rally in Khame, Plumtree, MRP president Mqondisi Moyo said the former Zapu president, Nkomo, refused an offer to split the nation, at the Lancaster House conference in 1979, as he thought he was going to win the country’s first one-man-one-vote election in 1980.

“I feel sad because we had the opportunity to separate ourselves from Zimbabwe during the Lancaster House talks of 1979 but the late Zapu leader Nkomo refused, he said he wanted the two countries combined because he thought he was going to win not knowing that Mugabe and his colleagues had finished with him,” said Moyo.

Three years down the line, Ndebele people started being brutally murdered in the hands of Mugabe. If Nkomo had agreed to that option during the talks, there was not going to be a thing called Gukurahundi.

“If only he had not called  for a cease fire in 1982, we were going to defeat Shonas once and for all. I always wonder why Nkomo took his ZPRA troops for training in Russia, Cuba, Algeria and Egypt only call for cease fire.

“This is very saddening because Mugabe and his friends did their homework, it is like they were two steps ahead of Nkomo in terms of thinking because immediately after he called for cease fire and they knew his army no longer had weapons, they stroke.”

MRP is a political party pushing for reconstitution of the Mthwakazi nation through cessation from the greater Zimbabwe.

Moyo’s rally, which was attended by hundreds, was themed, “Coming back for our land, political power, borders; restoration and prosperity for all.”

Nick Mangwana In Embarrassing U-turn Over Moreblessing Ali Affair With Killer

By A Correspondent- Government Spokesman Nick Mangwana has using a graphic red line strike on a piece of paper, apologised over his embarrassing comments alleging that the murdered CCC activist Moreblessing Ali was killed by a former boyfriend.

ZimEye revealed last month that the murder suspect Pius Jamba has never at anytime been her boyfriend and he is even younger than her own son, Innocence.

Writing after 3 weeks of posting falsehoods, Mangwana for the first time sounded out that he only commented based on information not his own, but that of government functionaries who made announcements based on word to lips witness allegations.

Moreblessing Ali (46) was killed and her body dismembered on the night of the 24th May 2022 in Nyatsime and the police for over 3 weeks, spent more time publishing political apologetics than performing any arrest.

Commenting, Mangwana, highlighted the erroneous allegation in red and then said,

“We work with available information from our institutions who also work with what they are informed by witnesses.”

Meanwhile at the weekend, Jamba’s brother Simba Chisango announced alleging that even his own mother is guilty.

He briefly spoke to ZimEye via phone as he communicated this.

JUST IN- Sikhala, Sithole Bail Ruling Postponed

By A Correspondent- The bail ruling for incarcerated CCC senior members Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole has been postponed to 22 June 2022.

Sikhala and Sithole spent the weekend behind bars following their arrest last week in connection with the violence that erupted in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza at a memorial service of slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali with authorities accusing the two of inciting the violence.

The duo were hauled to court in leg irons Monday morning.

Prosecutors Michael Reza, Chris Mutangadura and Lovemore Masuku allege that Sikhala, who is also the Ali family lawyer, urged Zimbabweans to avenge Ali’s murder.

Sithole is charged with participating in inciting violence and arranging lorries which allegedly transported CCC activists who attacked the homes of ZANU PF supporters.

Both denied the charges through defence lawyers Jeremiah Bamu and Alec Muchadehama who said the charges against their clients were a creation by the state.

Bamu last week said that Sikhala is not the one who posted the video in which he is alleged to have incited violence and that he did not utter any statements inciting violence.

Said the CCC in a tweet:

“They’re being persecuted for demanding justice for Moreblessing Ali.”

Party Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere lamented the selective treatment of the duo by the state and said:

“Today, Hon @JobSikhala1 & Hon Godfrey Sithole have been brought to court in leg irons.

There is no lawful basis for this cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.

There’s also no basis for them to be held at Chikurubi instead of Remand Prison.

Cornered Chaibva Disowns Twitter Account

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) commissioner Gabriel Chaibva has denied ownership of a Twitter account in his name which recently carried an offensive tweet.

This came after the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) threatened to file a US1 million defamation lawsuit against him over the alleged tweet.

The tweet implied that the human rights body was organising civil unrest

“I regret to advise that this is one of the many social media platforms which purport to be me when, in fact, they are ghost accounts,” Chaibva said in a letter to the ZLHR.

“I am advised that they have been many more handles which have been opened in my name with old pictures of me. The picture appearing on the Twitter handle complained of was taken in 2008 and appeared in a news broadcast on ZBC TV when I was interviewed. It is on the internet.

“The other pictures which have appeared on the Twitter handle were taken in July 2019 at the State House swearing ceremony, while those pictures are of me; it is not my Twitter handle. Therefore, be informed that the Twitter handle you are complaining of is a ghost account and I am not in any way associated with it,” he added.

In the alleged offensive tweet, Chaibva is said to have claimed that civil society groups such as the Crisis Coalition Zimbabwe, Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe and ZLHR were planning engage politically motivated violence in the coming few days.

ZLHR, through lawyer Tinomuda Shoko, said: “The information you posted in your tweet is false in every respect and is calculated as it damages the reputation and standing of the ZLHR.

There was no single incident where ZLHR has sent any information to any organisation or published any information calling for a stay away, and does not intend to do so.

“The information which you posted on your tweet is not only false, but highly defamatory in that it creates an impression in the minds of any reasonable person that the ZLHR are masterminds and instigators of political violence and civil unrest.”

ZLHR the demanded that Chaibva should retract the statement or face a US$1 million defamation lawsuit.

Acting Prosecutor General In Soup Over 2014 Docket

By A Correspondent- Police on Wednesday last week opened a criminal docket against acting Prosecutor-General Nelson Mutsonziwa for reportedly destroying a court docket in 2014.

The docket was opened at the Harare Central Police Station under case number IR 061520 following a complaint by businessman Chemist Siziba.

In a statement issued to the police by the complainant and gleaned by NewsDay, Siziba said the allegations pertain to Mutsonziwa’s conduct as a public prosecutor in the then Attorney-General’s Office.

“The allegations made pertain to his conduct as a public prosecutor in the then Attorney-General’s Office. Sometime in 2014, I reported a criminal case to the police at Harare Central Police Station.

“The accused persons in that matter are Paul Rijk Peacy, Craig John William Danckwerts, Ray Kaukonde, Samson Edmare and Jeremy Brook to do with a forged CR14,” Siziba wrote.

He said police investigated the matter and arrested the suspects and brought them before a Harare magistrate who placed them on remand.

“Nelson Mutsonziwa, in his capacity as a public prosecutor stationed at the then Attorney-General’s Office, summoned the docket purportedly to review same. I am advised that he was entitled to do so. Mutsonziwa then summoned me to his office and instructed me to withdraw the complaint and threatened to send me to prison if I did not comply with his directive,” Siziba wrote.

“I filed a complaint against him in 2014. The docket has not been seen or returned to the Magistrates Court at Rotten Row Avenue since 2014. I have written to him asking him to account for the docket, but he has neglected/failed to account for the docket.”

Siziba further indicated that as a result of Mutsonziwa’s interference with the prosecution of the accused and non-availability of the docket, his complaint against Danckwerts has not been tried.

“I have since learnt that the accused under that docket were represented by one Mutsonziwa (now-deceased), who is the acting Prosecutor-General’s relative. I also learnt that Mutsonziwa has been in contact with the accused through proxies,” Siziba said, adding that his conduct was unlawful and inconsistent with his duties.

Allegations are that in December 1998, Siziba, through his firm Hawkhope Investments, purchased the entire share capital of Danckwerts’ two firms trading as Nyland Enterprises and Great-Insight Investments.

Both firms fell under Danckwerts’ holding company Danbro Holdings.

On August 25, 1999, Danckwerts, together with Peacey, resigned as directors of the two firms, leading to Siziba together with Margret Siziba and Bernadette Sekai Veteranwa assuming control of the two firms as the new directors.

However, sometime between 2011 and 2012, Danckwerts turned against Siziba and caused his arrest, accusing him of stealing his firms.

But police investigations revealed that Danckwerts had reportedly submitted a fraudulent form to the Registrar of Companies between February 2011 and May 2012 purporting to be still a director of the firms at the centre of the controversy.

Danckwerts allegedly later appointed former Mashonaland East Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde, Jeremy Brooke and one Samson as co-directors, but Kaukonde and Samson later resigned after noting Danckwerts’ arrest.

According to Siziba, Danckwerts was being represented by Mutsonziwa’s relative the late Arthur Mutsonziwa of Atherstone and Cook Legal Practitioners.-newsday

Zanu PF Threatens To “Unleash Own Dogs” Against Opposition CCC

By A Correspondent- Ruling Zanu-PF party deputy youth secretary John Paradza yesterday threatened to unleash party youths against the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) as political tempers flare ahead of the 2023 elections.

Paradza was addressing scores of youths in the capital yesterday.

The defiant Paradza said the party would unleash violence in defending the revolutionary party, adding that as youth, they were going to defend the party.

“We have noted that CCC is unleashing violence against us, but starting from today, I am unleashing my dogs,” he said.

“As youths, our mandate is to defend the revolutionary party and we are going to make sure we defend our party. CCC burnt houses in Chitungwiza and we are not going to fold our hands watching them unleashing violence,” he said.

Zanu-PF supporters and CCC activists clashed in Nyatsime over the death of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

Tempers are rising ahead of the 2023 elections after a CCC rally was blocked in Chegutu over the weekend, with the opposition party blaming Zanu-PF for barricading Pfumojena Stadium where the rally was to be hosted.

Paradza added that President Emmerson Mnangagwa would unveil residential stands to the youth.

“I have met the President and he said he was going to unveil stands to the youths. It is the President’s vision to give youths stands and also to have employment,” he said.

Zanu-PF Harare central youth chairperson Emmanuel Mahachi also said they were going to defend the party.

“We are not going to fold our hands and we are going to defend our party through fighting because we rule this country,” Mahachi said

In his vote of thanks, youth secretary for administration Tendai Chiwetu said he was aware of ministers and legislators who were working against Mnangagwa.

“We have people who seem to like President Mnangagwa, but they don’t like him. We are going to make sure that they are not retained as central committee members as we approach the elections,” Chiwetu added.

CCC youth assembly spokesperson Stephen Chuma said: “We, as CCC, believe in non-violence approach to solving problems. It’s very unfortunate that in this modern era, we have a political party that believes in violence as a strategy.

“We are a peace-loving citizens’ movement, but that does not make us weak or cowards. No one has monopoly of violence and we want to send the message clear to Emmerson Mnangagwa, John Paradza and Zanu-PF thugs that any attempts to drive the nation into anarchy will be resisted.”

He added: “We know that Zanu-PF wants to use violence to drive this nation into anarchy so as to effect a state of emergency in order to postpone the upcoming general elections. They know they are going to lose elections so they are running scared and are now resorting to violence.”

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “I will have to get the information from Officer Commanding Harare Province and get back to you on the matter. I was not at work today (yesterday).”-Newsday

WATCH- Health Workers Down Tools

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s health workers Monday downed tools protesting poor salaries and working conditions.

They gave the government notice to down tools last week.

In a notice of incapacitation and withdrawal of service seen by Pindula News, the workers who are currently paid in the local currency have repeated their call to be paid in United States Dollars (USD).

The Zimbabwe dollar has been losing value since its reintroduction in 2019.

Watch the video below for more:

The protest comes as the government has offered a 100% salary increment.

Analysts say the government needs to realise that something is fundamentally wrong with this society, its economy and politics to address the vicious cycle and crisis.

Workers have been periodically embarking on industrial action since 2019 demanding restoration of their pre-October 2018 salaries which were in United States dollars.

The government says it is incapacitated to pay all its workers in foreign currency. Some analysts say Zimbabwe has enough resources to take care of its workforce, “but the government has other priorities.”

Residents Fume Over US$ Billing

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo residents under the Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA), have written to the Bulawayo city council expressing displeasure over the local authority’s recent decision to levy rates in US dollars.

Last week council announced that residents will now pay their service charges and levies in US dollars at the prevailing bank rate with effect from June 1, 2022.

In a notice to residents and other stakeholders, Bulawayo town clerk Christopher Dube said the move had been necessitated by the depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar.

BPRA have however blasted council over the issue and urged the local authority to find other ways of raising revenue.

“The reality on the ground is that a lot of residents are actually falling behind in paying council bills and rentals in local currency and there is no way that charging in US dollars will turn this reality around.

“A return to US dollar payments will actually worsen the plight of residents who live on out of pocket transactions.

“While we understand the challenges, council is faced with in providing service delivery, our key question remains; whose reality really counts,?

“Is it that of council or that ordinary rate payers, the majority of whom are living in poor conditions and abject poverty,” reads part of BPRA’s letter.

The residents association has also accused council management of unilaterally coming up with the new payment regime without the approval of councilors.

Council has however called for a stakeholders meeting Monday to discuss the issue.

Residents have vowed to boycott the meeting until the local authority produces evidence in the form of full council minutes to indicate that due procedure was followed and a full council resolution was passed to effect the re-alignment of the tariff charges.

Woman Who R_aped Minor To Get Pregnant Jailed 12yrs

By A Correspondent- A 27 year old Bulawayo woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on two counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Moderate Tichavavamwe (27), who had challenges of conceiving, raped a 15-year-old boy twice in an effort to conceive.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when she appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga on Friday.

The magistrate, however, convicted and sentenced her to 12 years in prison at the close of the State case. But two years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Naison Chivayo said sometime in 2020, Tichavavamwe visited the 15-year-old boy’s mother in Kingsdale seeking assistance on ways to help her conceive and was charged US$25 for the services.

During the same month, Tichavavamwe summoned the 15-year-old boy to her home to repair the solar light and promised to pay him.

The boy repaired the solar light and was given eggs as payment for his services.

The court heard that sometime in March, the minor was again called by Tichavavamwe to her house where she invited him to her room and sexually abused him.

On another count during the same month while at Woodville, Bulawayo, the boy was sent by his father to Tichavavamwe’s home to collect his US$4 for the electric cable she had bought from him.

The woman invited the boy into her room and abused him again.

After the act, the woman gave the boy eggs, dried caterpillars and the US$4 he was sent to collect by his father.

The matter came to light after the boy was caught stealing sugarcane in Mahatshula garden and stated that he had been  sent by Tichavavamwe.

The teenager later opened up and told his father about the abuse.

The matter was reported at Queens Park Police Station, leading to her arrest.

Mliswa Exposes “Corrupt” Minister

By A Correspondent- Norton legislator (Independent), Temba Mliswa has said Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo was stifling local government authorities through corruption.

He also said despite numeral calls, the government has not acted on reports of corruption against Moyo. He made the remarks in a series of Twitter messages in which he articulated issues overshadowing President Emmerson Mngagwagwa’s success stories.

He said:

Let’s face full-on the issues plaguing us on the ground. Councils are crying out against July Moyo who has a litany of corruption charges which haven’t been pursued. Local authorities are under siege from him and nothing is moving there.

How can we keep quiet in the face of such political profligacy? We have said Devolution is the way to go and yet the Minister is hoarding and abusing power. All these are issues which are detrimental to the positives and take off the glow of achievements elsewhere.

Failure to face and speak about these is actually a travesty that is dangerous to ED. There are a lot of social issues which Gvt has failed to respond to. As I have always argued any economic progress has to be felt in the day-to-day lives of the people!

Recently, Moyo was accused of super-imposing the Pomona Waste of Energy Project deal between the Harare City Council and Geoginix BV.

The deal, which was approved by Cabinet and reportedly forced on Harare City Council by Moyo, is racking up a daily bill of US$22 000 since being penned.

Critics say Moyo was violating the Constitution which states that local government authorities are semi-autonomous.

Most urban councils are run by the opposition and Moyo’s alleged interference is reportedly meant to cause local government authorities to fail to deliver expected public goods and services.

MOREBLESSING ALI MURDER: Simba Chisango Implicates Own Mother

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | The Zimbabwe Republic Police was at the weekend left exposed for unprofessionalism when the brother to the chief suspect in the murder case of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali, Simba Chisango revealed how the cops have failed to arrest his mother for keeping the victim’s corpse for over 3 weeks at her property.

The force was further exposed when in very clear terms, Simba Chisango who is the Nyatsime ZANU PF Chairperson, revealed that his mother is an accomplice in the murder of the 46 year old council worker.

Chisango openly revealed that his mother is guilty of concealing the murder.

Moreblessing Ali disappeared on the night of the 24th May and Chisango in a 30th May interview told ZimEye she was still alive on that day.

The police who instead of arresting several murder accuseds, has in recent days moved to apprehend rather, the victim’s only lawyer, Job Sikhala. In their reportage, the police said Chisango’s brother, Pius Jamba kidnapped Moreblessing, killed her in a nearby bush, and came back to cut her body up before deciding to dump the remains in a nearby well. All this happened sometime during the 3 week period when he later fled to Hurungwe.

Simba Chisango directed journalists to his mother saying she is the one who kept the corpse a secret. He answered clearly saying his mother had done something he should not be held to account on, that is, hiding the corpse, or concealing knowledge of it.

Chisango spoke to ZimEye, on Saturday and the following was the part transcript:

Chisango: “what do you want me to answer you when the corpse was found where it was ? ..

ZimEye: yes the corpse was found, but how did you fail to know of it when it was at the home?

Chisango: Are you now making me out to be a prophet or what?

ZimEye: This is your mother’s house and it’s not very far from where you live, comrade.

Chisango: Why do you appear like you don’t have a mother? If your mother does something, does it mean I am the one who has done it?

The revelations mean that Chisango’s mother, per his words, was hiding Moreblessing Ali’s corpse at her property, contrary to the police account that suggests that the victim’s dismembered remains were found in a distant well. This might also mean Chisango’s mother was there when Moreblessing was killed, if true that the victim was still alive on the 30th May, which means a wounded Moreblessing Ali was likely kept alive for several days at  the mother’s home. Forensic Scientist and TV whistleblower, Shepherd Yuda told ZimEye, the body’s state of decomposition suggests Moreblessing was kept alive for several days after the disappearance on the 24th May.

Drone flights by ZimEye between the 30th May and 7th June led this news network to Simba Chisango’s own home where even kids were being chased away to ward them off Chisango’s home.

It leaves to be seen if the police will perform an arrest on the mother after they apprehended instead, the murder victim’s only lawyer, Job Sikhala over a religious cultural statement he was instructed to announce, per his duty to the family.

Analysts speculate that the police are simply covering up for ruling party ZANU PF members behind the crime. Meanwhile, the family has announced demands saying there will not be any burial until Sikhala is released and all charges against him dropped.    FULL INTERVIEW BELOW
