Mnangagwa Splashes Cash For Polls

Zanu PF has revealed that members of the party’s women’s league conference in Harare were showered with cash and fuel coupons amid indications that the ruling party is already well oiled ahead of the 2023 elections.
The elective conference ended yesterday with Senate president Mabel Chinomona retaining her position as secretary of the Zanu PF women’s league.

Outgoing secretary for transport and social welfare Marben Nkatazo told delegates 31 Zupco buses were hired to ferry delegates from across the country before laying out the benefits the delegates got for attending the conference.

“His Excellency, we had 31 Zupco buses which ferried people.

“We only had one challenge when the Manicaland bus had a breakdown,” Nkatazo said.

“We have cash points for politburo members and central committee members, who are going to get allowances and coupons.

“Members are booked in hotels, lodges, and higher tertiary institutions.”

Zanu PF also funded foreign guests from sister parties in the region by paying for their accommodation, air-tickets and food.”

In his closing remarks, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said Zanu PF was “roaring like a lion” ahead of next year’s elections where he would be seeking a second full term.

“We don’t want corruption, Zanu PF is the king of the jungle,” Mnangagwa said.

“We are roaring and we are kicking and Zanu PF is everybody’s party and we should always expose the lies on social media.”

Mnangagwa said the ruling party had enough resources to mobilise for next year’s elections at a time the country is battling a harsh socio-economic crisis.

“Go to your provinces, we have resources to mobilise for support,” he added.

Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said he was not aware how much was spent for the conference.

“It has been a well-organised conference,” Mutsvangwa said.

“In my view, they will go with election message and I wouldn’t know on the budget and number of delegates because there is another department, which is doing that.”

Zanu PF’s official reports have always shown that the party is struggling financially, but its election campaigns are often funded by businessmen that benefit from government contracts.

In the last elections, the wealthy businessmen bought the party dozens of cars.

In 2020 Zanu PF moved to expel its youth political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu, who revealed that most of the ruling party’s financiers were embroiled in corrupt activities that were contributing to Zimbabwe’s economic problems.-Standard

CCC Activists On The Run As Police Swoop On Sikhala, Sithole

By A Correspondent| Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists are on the run after police swooped on Zengeza West and St Marys legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole over the violence that broke out at the funeral of Moreblessing Ali.

14 other activists from Nyatsime area have also been arrested and currently detained together with the two legislators.

In an interview with ZimEye, CCC spokesperson accused the police of targeting opposition members when the people who murdered Ali were walking scot free.

“It’s sad that our police always take sides, instead of investigating the murder of our member Moreblessing Ali, they connived with Zanu PF members to disrupt the funeral.

“Instead of arresting Zanu PF members who attacked our members at the funeral, they chose to go for our members

“That is why we have always insisted that Mr Mnangagwa’s administration does not respect rule of law,” said Mahere.

One of the CCC members who attended Moreblessing Ali’s funeral Hazel Chipunga told ZimEye that she survived by hiding in a nearby bridge as the police and Zanu PF thugs attacked everyone wearing a yellow t-shirt.

Chipunga who is the CCC branch secretary for Zengeza West said since the Nyatsime violence incident, she has been receiving calls from suspicious telephone numbers threatening her with violence.

“I have been receiving calls from people claiming to be police officers asking me to report to St Mary’s police station but surprisingly, they would call in the middle of the night,” said Chipunga.

Another CCC member from Marondera, Audius Makomatsi also had his home, car and shop burnt down by Zanu PF members and is on the run.

“They destroyed my car, my shop and my home and instead of arresting the people who did that, they are targeting me, I don’t know why,” said Makomatsi.

Mahere confirmed Makomatsi and Chipunga’s predicament adding that Sikhala’s wife had her car impounded by the police.

“We are receiving reports that the home, car and shop of CCC member, Audius Makomatsi have been burnt in Nyatsime following the memorial service of Moreblessing Ali who disappeared & was murdered. Nobody has been arrested for the murder.

“We are advised that the wife and relatives of Hon @JobSikhala have been denied access to Central Police Station where Hon Sikhala is being held. His car has reportedly been impounded,” said Mahere in a tweet.

Schoolchild Dies, Four Injured In Zhombe Careless Driving

By-One schoolchildren died on the spot, while four others escaped with injuries after being hit by a car while waiting for transport at the Zhombe East turnoff.

According to the Chronicle, the incident happened at a bus stop on Friday at the 50km peg, along the Kwekwe-Gokwe road around 4 PM.

The pupils, who were coming from school, were waiting at the bus stop for transport to take them home when the tragic incident happened.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident. He said:
One juvenile, who was on his way from school, died on the spot while four others were injured when they were hit by a motor vehicle while they were waiting for transport at a bus stop. The accident occurred at 50km peg on June 24 at around 4PM.

Celebrity Make-Up Artist Up For Murder

By-A popular Harare celebrity make-up artist is to be interviewed as a suspect by police after her husband was found dead at their rented Greendale home early Saturday.

Tawanda Gregory Bobo, 41, was found hanging from a guava tree with two neckties at the Greengroove Drive house. Police believe the scene was staged after Bobo was found in a sitting position, with the jeans he was wearing disposed of in the dump 15 meters away.

ZimLive reports that police have now identified Bobo’s wife Deliwe Chipo Mutandiro, 30, as a suspect, and her sister Debra Fungai Mutandiro as an accomplice to murder for allegedly assisting in the attempted cover-up.

Tawanda, Deliwe and Debra had attended a party in Borrowdale on Friday night and only returned home at around 2 AM on Saturday, according to family sources.

A row ensued between Tawanda and Deliwe, she said after she refused to have s*x with him because she was tired and had work the following day.

Reports of a fight were corroborated by the couple’s maid, Chipo Maguta, who revealed that at one point Deliwe “sought refuge” in her room and Tawanda followed her and their argument continued until Debra helped restrain him.

Maguta said Deliwe left her room and she did not know where she slept, although sometime after 3 AM she heard what she thought were footsteps in the passage and the two sisters apparently whispering to each other.

Deliwe and Chipo have told investigators they left for Goromonzi at around 5 AM. Deliwe, who said she slept with their three children in another room, said she observed that her husband did not sleep in their bedroom and assumed he slept in the lounge.

It was not until 8 AM that Maguta stumbled on Tawanda’s body. She called Deliwe and an ambulance was summoned but he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police said they responded to reports of suicide on Saturday morning. They have now opened a murder investigation.

What Is Monkeypox?

Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It is a viral zoonotic disease, meaning that it can spread from animals to humans. It can also spread between people

Symptoms of monkeypox typically include a fever, intense headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, swollen lymph nodes and a skin rash or lesions.

The rash usually begins within one to three days of the start of a fever. Lesions can be flat or slightly raised, filled with clear or yellowish fluid, and can then crust, dry up and fall off.

The number of lesions on one person can range from a few to several thousand. The rash tends to be concentrated on the face, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. They can also be found on the mouth, genitals and eyes.

Symptoms typically last between 2 to 4 weeks and go away on their own without treatment. If you think you have symptoms that could be monkeypox, seek advice from your health care provider.

Let them know if you have had close contact with someone who has suspected or confirmed monkeypox.

Monkeypox can spread to people when they come into physical contact with an infected animal. Animal hosts include rodents and primates. The risk of catching monkeypox from animals can be reduced by avoiding unprotected contact with wild animals, especially those that are sick or dead (including their meat and blood). In endemic countries where animals carry monkeypox, any foods containing animal meat or parts should be cooked thoroughly before eating.

People with monkeypox are infectious while they have symptoms (normally for between two and four weeks). You can catch monkeypox through close physical contact with someone who has symptoms. The rash, bodily fluids (such as fluid, pus or blood from skin lesions) and scabs are particularly infectious. Clothing, bedding, towels or objects like eating utensils/dishes that have been contaminated with the virus from contact with an infected person can also infect others.

Ulcers, lesions or sores in the mouth can also be infectious, meaning the virus can spread through saliva. People who closely interact with someone who is infectious, including health workers, household members and sexual partners are therefore at greater risk for infection.

The virus can also spread from someone who is pregnant to the foetus from the placenta, or from an infected parent to child during or after birth through skin-to-skin contact.

It is not clear whether people who do not have symptoms can spread the disease.

Zimbabwean Singer Performs At Real Madrid Star’s Wedding

For any Zimbabwean who loves football, seeing the Real Madrid squad on television is normal.

The record 14-time Champions League winners have won Europe’s premier club competition four times in the last six years, hence one is bound to frequently bump into them on TV.

But Zimbabwean singer and songwriter Tina Masawi got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only see the Madrid players in person but they also watched her perform.

Masawi sang at Los Blancos defender Dani Carvajal’s wedding on Friday.

The Spain international married his partner of many years Daphne Cañizares, in the Spanish city of Segovia.

For Tina, who is based in Barcelona and sings R’n’B, blues, pop, afro beats and house music, this was a dream come true.

But how did the opportunity come about?

“Their wedding planner reached out to me on their behalf, they found me online I imagine,” she revealed.

“I was asked to perform at an FC Barcelona footballer’s wedding a couple of years back and couldn’t go due to another commitment and I was hoping another opportunity like that would come around so I am very glad that it did,” added Tina.

The ceremony was attended by Carvajal’s Real teammates, including Marco Asensio, Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, Nacho, Lucas Vasquez, and Jesus Vallejo.

Tina, who sang a classic English song for the newly-weds, admits nerves got the better of her at first, but she eventually pulled herself together.

“It felt amazing and yes I was a little nervous beforehand as it was a very intimate moment but as soon as the spotlight came on, I did what I know how to do best, felt right at home. It was an amazing experience,” she said.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Caps United Succumb To 7th Consecutive Defeat

Struggling Harare giants CAPS United’s woes continue after they succumbed to their 7th defeat on the trot when they were edged 0-1 by ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium.

Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges last won a league match on April 10, when they edged Yadah 1-0.

The Green Machine has been plunged into a financial crisis which has seen some players leaving while the remaining ones have at times played well but just can’t get the job done.

Even a stakeholders meeting held during the two-week PSL break could not inspire the Phineas Bamusi-captained side to return to winning ways.

Heading into today’s encounter, Makepekepe had last scored a goal on the 24th of April, in the 1-2 defeat to Triangle at Gibbo.

They did score today but in the wrong net.

Defender Marshall Machazane tried to intercept a goal-bound pass in the 66th minute but sliced the ball past his goalkeeper Tatenda Munditi to give ZPC the lead and ultimately, the winner.

Chitembwe was naturally disappointed by the result.

“It’s very deflating and disappointing,” he said in a post-match interview.

“From a results viewpoint, it’s extremely disappointing. This will rank among the poorest phaces in my football career, very disappointing.

“Sometimes you look at it performance-wise and I thought it was a decent performance but it needed us to have more than just a decent performance; more guts, it needed us to have more courage, much more character and knowing what is at stake.

“It was a decent performance and I’m extremely disappointed by the way we conceded. I thought the situation was under control but well, one or two mistakes and failure to communicate and it obviously costs you a game of football, added Chitembwe.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

DeMbare Kicked Out Of Nakamba Tournament

Dynamos have been disqualified from the inauguration Marvelous Nakamba U-17 invitational tournament in Bulawayo for age cheating.

The tournament is being played at White City Stadium in the City of Kings and bankrolled by the Aston Villa midfielder through his Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF).
Dynamos, who had progressed to the semi-finals set for today after collecting nine points in Group A, have been disqualified from the tournament for using an over-aged player.

Soccer24 has it on good authority that the player in question was part of the national U-17 team disqualified from the 2020 Cosafa U-17 tournament, and that triggered suspicion.

One of the organisers of the tournament, who asked not to be named, confirmed that DeMbare have been disqualified.

“Yes, they have been disqualified. And it’s sad for the game and unfortunate on the debate as a brand. They will be replaced in the semi-finals by the team which finished third in their group” he said.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CCC Remembers 27 June 2008 Political Violence Victims

By A Correspondent- The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has remembered victims of the violence that preceded the 2008 presidential re-run election which the Nelson Chamisa-led party blames on the ruling ZANU PF.

Many people were tortured and or killed while some lost their homes as the ruling ZANU PF’s campaign dubbed “27 June VaMugabe muOffice” was implemented by ZANU PF’s Border Gezi-trained Greenbombers, state security forces and war veterans.

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, pulled out of the presidential race following violence against his supporters. Pindula News presents the CCC’s Twitter thread – #Remembering27JuneVictims:

Today, the 27th of June, we remember the opposition members who were murdered, tortured and maimed in 2008 on account of politics

The violent attacks on the opposition members by suspected Zanu PF thugs took place after the late Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai had resoundingly won the March 2008 presidential elections against the late Robert Mugabe.

This electoral outcome threatened to bring Robert Mugabe’s grip on power since independence to an abrupt end. The opposition, for the first time since independence, also took control of parliament.

The regime through the abuse of the state institutions particularly ZEC released a tampered election result outcome after a very long time, and subsequently resulted in a rerun.

In a callous effort to reverse the presidential election result, suspected Zanu PF unleashed terror and violence against opposition members.

According to the ZEC results which took more than a month to be released, Morgan Tsvangirai of the MDCT garnered 47.9 % of the total vote to upstage Robert Mugabe of ZANU-PF who allegedly garnered 43.7 % of the total vote.

A re-run was ordered to take place on the 27th of June 2008 to determine a winner. The 27th of June 2008 would become the rerun date.

Before the re-run could take place, politically motivated violence broke out across the country which left more than 200 opposition supporters dead, over 200 reported cases of  rape, destruction of property and livestock and over 20000 people displaced.

The election was widely contested and rejected by the international community. After several talks mediated by South Africa’s Thabo Mbeki, ZANU PF and two MDC formations formed a Government of National Unity (GNU).

New Statutoty Instrument Complels Debtors To Repay In Forex.

By A Correspondent- The government has announced the introduction of a new Statutory Instrument that will compel debtors to repay in the currency they would have borrowed, for instance, those who borrow USD will repay in USD.

The announcement was made by Finance and Economic Development Secretary, George Guvamatanga at a press conference held in Harare this Monday.

He said the Statutory Instrument will be issued today (27 June 2022).

He said the legislation is introduced after financial institutions including banks have been complaining that people are borrowing USD and would repay in Zimbabwe dollars.

This would put them at a disadvantage considering that the local currency is shedding value against the United States dollar and other currencies.

4m Learners Failing To Pay Fees

By A Correspondent- Four million children are failing to pay fees and are now clamouring for government’s Basic Education Assistance Module (Beam) programme, the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) has said.

In its latest report released last week, Zimcodd also said 30 000 students failed to register for their final examinations last year after failing to afford Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) fees.

“Although government’s efforts are commendable, it is sad to note that approximately four million children are in need of Beam, but only 160 782 managed to receive government assistance, pointing to the meagre spending towards HCD [human capital development],” Zimcodd said.

“Parents across the country failed to pay for their children’s school fees leading to a mass dropout in 2021. A 2,03% decrease was witnessed with 49 128 candidates as compared to 50 287 in 2020. The reduction in numbers of students who registered with Zimsec for Advanced Level did not come as a surprise to Zimcodd, as one of its weekly reviews in 2021 lamented how 30 000 students had failed to register. This points to weak social protection policies with respect to education.”

Zimcodd said as of August 2021, government had only paid for 160 782 children fees, amounting to $432 834 468.

Zimcodd said it had carried out the rapid survey to determine if government had increased Beam uptake and if it was releasing the Beam funds on time.

The survey established that while government was paying Beam, many schools had not received Beam fees for the first term, although a few had received and the last payments having been made in March.

The survey also determined that the low number of Beam beneficiaries indicated that government was either unwilling or failing to support the vulnerable children.

Zimcodd implored the Primary and Secondary Education as well as the Finance and Economic Development ministries to prioritise education by adequately funding Beam to ensure that every vulnerable child gets an equal opportunity to learn.

Public Service minister Paul Mavima said: “Government is only giving assistance to one and a half million children this year. President Emmerson Mnangagwa said by next year, the government will start State-funded basic education, so all the children will be taken care of next year.”-Newsday

Declining Economic Situation Haunts ED

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation has reportedly ratcheted pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa from within his ruling Zanu-PF party to find quick solutions as the country heads into the election season.

The spectre of the grim 2008 era defined by hyperinflation is looming large in the southern African country after the year-on-year inflation shot up to 191,7% in June from 131,7% in May according to the latest official figures.

Price increases have become a daily occurrence, leaving desperate workers unable to cope as wages and salaries fail to keep pace.

A panicked Mnangagwa promised on Friday to announce fresh “concrete measures to tame inflation, and unwarranted increases towards securing the incomes and savings of our people, especially women”.

He said this while officially opening Zanu-PF’s 7th national women’s league congress in Harare.

Mnangagwa appears stumped, unable to deal with the rampaging inflation or halt the slide of the local currency against the United States dollar.

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube is likely to announce the measures at a Press conference this morning.

On the parallel market, the rate was US$1:$650 at the weekend, compared to $360 on the official market.

Party organs are reportedly increasingly becoming restless, worried that the economic meltdown could cost the ruling party dearly in elections expected next year.

There are also strong indications that the Cabinet is sharply divided over how to deal with the situation, with some ministers calling for dollarisation, while others are advocating for the status quo to stay.

Big wigs in the party are also reportedly piling pressure on Mnangagwa to reshuffle the Cabinet and fire some ministers they accuse of sabotaging his vision of a middle class population by 2030, insiders said.

The Zanu-PF women’s league on Friday implored Mnangagwa to put in place stringent measures to stem corruption that now infests his cronies, which has emerged as the major force bleeding the economy.

“My President, we want you to introduce stiffer penalties against perpetrators of corruption by even cutting one finger, if not two,” women’s league secretary Mabel Chinomona said at the conference.

At a Press conference recently, Zanu-PF youth national secretary for administration Tendai Chiwetu said he was aware of ministers and legislators who were working against Mnangagwa.

“We have people who seem to like President Mnangagwa, but they don’t like him. We are going to make sure that they don’t retain as central committee members as we approach the elections,” Chiwetu said.

Mnangagwa has previously attacked “saboteurs” for the economic malaise.

Last month, he announced a raft of measures aimed at controlling the spiralling inflation, which included a ban on bank lending, but the measures boomeranged and forced government to backtrack.

Economists attributed the current economic mess to poor monetary policies and fiscal policy failure, insisting that dollarisation was the only way to forward.

“There is no room for other economic measures to rescue the economy other than dollarisation. Owing to this ever rising inflation, the minister (Ncube) may need a supplementary budget, but with what currency? Is he prepared to use the local currency, we will have a $2 trillion dollar budget because naturally, if you look at what has been happening, the official exchange rate has tripled from December last year yet the budget did not take into account of that,” economist Gift Mugano said.

“Expectation was that by the end of the year, the official exchange rate would be around 200, but now it’s already 350. As we get to December, the rate would be above 500.

“So government is in no capacity to put any measure to tame inflation other than dollarising. It’s a raging fire. Economic agents are restless. Whatever is happening in the economy is self-fulfilling.”

Political analyst Sydicks Muradzikwa described Mnangagwa’s efforts to resolve the economic crisis as “political rhetoric”.

“The economic fundamentals that are prevailing cannot be addressed by political gimmicks. He has to make sure that he implements genuine political reforms. There are outstanding key political issues that are threatening to tear this economy apart,” he said.-Newsday

Command ED Rally For Nyatsime Residents

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF councillor Masimbi Masimbi, who torched a heated controversy after declaring the Nyatsime area in Chitungwiza a ruling party territory, has ordered all residents in the area to attend a rally set to be addressed by President Mnangagwa on Wednesday.

Masimbi made headlines two weeks ago when he banned Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists from mourning their murdered colleague Moreblessing Ali while wearing CCC party regalia claiming that the Nyatsime area was a Zanu-PF territory.

The area was later turned into a battle field as CCC and Zanu-PF supporters clashed.

In a Saturday evening audio sent on WhatsApp group “Regularise Nyatsime Trust 2”, Masimbi, who is ward 9 (Nyatsime) councillor, said he was targeting an attendance of 20 000 people.

“I have come back again Nyatsime residents. I want to speak firmly on this issue. We are expecting the President on June 29.  We want to shock the nation by a high turnout as we welcome our President. We want to show him that we are behind him, we will vote for him. Five million votes will come from this area,” Masimbi said.

“We need to show him that we are his children and everyone needs title deeds. His visit and that of the whole province is a big blessing to the ward. That day, schools should close for people to go and welcome our President and prove that five million votes can come out of Nyatsime.”

This did not go down well with some residents in the group who said this kind of communication should have been done in a Zanu-PF WhatsApp group.

“Comrade, why don’t you go to your party’s group. Respect that people in this group have different political affiliations,” said one of the group members.

Masimbi replied: “I did not speak politics, I said let’s go and welcome the country’s President and tell him our concerns which made this group to be created such as the issue of title deeds. That’s the main purpose of the group. Know that comrade.”

Mnangagwa Splashes Cash For 2023 Polls

Mnangagwa Heads To Moreblessing’s Home Area for Rally

ZANU PF councillor Masimbi Masimbi, who torched a heated controversy after declaring the Nyatsime area in Chitungwiza a ruling party territory, has ordered all residents in the area to attend a rally set to be addressed by President Mnangagwa on Wednesday.

Masimbi made headlines two weeks ago when he banned Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists from mourning their murdered colleague Moreblessing Ali while wearing CCC party regalia claiming that the Nyatsime area was a Zanu PF territory.

2 Nyatsime ZANU PF Leaders Drop Dead And Herald Says It’s Poison | FULL TEXT

A dark cloud has engulfed the Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza following the death of two senior Zanu PF officials under unclear circumstances, with one of them alleged to have been poisoned while the other succumbed to a stress-related illness after his house was recently burnt down by CCC supporters.

The two officials are former Manyame district chairperson, Tina Gweshe, who is believed to have been poisoned after she attended a party last week, while the other one is George Murambatsvina, the Zanu PF chairman for Nyatsime, whose house was set ablaze by CCC supporters in Nyatsime about a fortnight ago.

Murambatsvina had suffered serious injuries and stress from the violent incident.
Zengeza West legislator, Job Sikhala and his Chitungwiza North Constituency counterpart Godfrey Sithole, have since been arrested on charges of incitement to commit violence.
Sikhala, who is also the CCC deputy national chairperson and Sithole, are accused of mobilising their party supporters to unleash violence in Nyatsime during a memorial service for Moreblessing Ali, who they claimed had been killed by a Zanu PF member, when in fact she was killed by her former lover under unclear circumstances.
Ali, who the CCC claimed was its member, was abducted outside a nightclub in Nyatsime on May 14 and her dismembered remains were discovered in a disused well at a farm in Beatrice, about 10km away from where she was taken.

The chief suspect in her murder, Pius Jamba (31) was recently arrested and is remanded in custody.

Man Falls From Hospital 3rd Floor ED-Style

For eight months, a family from Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb did not bury the body of a loved one who died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals after he fell from the third floor of a building at the institution.
Welcome Moyo’s family is not happy about the circumstances surrounding his death at the hospital and is now demanding compensation, even after burying him two weeks ago.

Authorities said disciplinary action is being taken against some staff members following the death but the institution is not able to compensate the family.

The deceased’s mother, Mrs Rodah Moyo said her son was admitted for epileptic fits on a Saturday in September last year but hospital staff left him unattended, and he fell from the third floor to the ground.

Nurses did not inform the family or doctors about the fall but put him back on his bed and he died.

Family members first visited him in hospital a day after Welcome’s admission and were told he would be discharged the following day.

When they returned to the hospital to take him home, he was dead.

“The fact that they never phoned informing us that our son had fallen makes everything suspicious. The rumours that we refused to bury him are not true, because we would never do such.

We just asked for compensation but the hospital held the body,” she said. “The pain I am feeling is so out of this world, I’m still alive in flesh but deep down I am dead. What happened has taken away all the peace from me and my family. Eight good months with a child in the mortuary, I could not sleep.

“Whenever I closed my eyes, I would think of him, and tell myself that if my son could see what was happening, he would say we hated him to the core, yet we did not have the power to bury him on time.”

The deceased’s father Mr Collen Moyo reiterated that they did not refuse to bury their son but the hospital held on to the body.

Our son had some periodical epileptic fits attacks which did not last long and used to attack him after three months intervals.

On Saturday September 25, he endured the attacks and we agreed to take him for medical attention at UBH, where upon arrival he fully recovered but was admitted for monitoring.

They said he would be discharged the following day but because it was a Sunday, they could not discharge him, it’s their policy.

“That Sunday, two of his sisters visited him and they stood by the word that they found him well, playing draughts with others waiting for his discharge,” he said.

“On Monday September 27, we did not visit him in the morning because we planned to go once to take him home since he was being discharged.

The two sisters went to the hospital in the afternoon to bring their brother home only to get news that he had passed on.

They were confused, and asked his doctor for explanations.

They were only told that he fell while visiting the toilet.”

Mr Moyo said they were then shown the body on Tuesday.

“The statement that they were investigating the case made us believe that they were holding on to the body so we could not go on with the burial until cleared by them.”

He said they wrote to the hospital in February demanding compensation and only buried the deceased two weeks ago after police intervened on the matter.

However, in an interview, Bulawayo PMD, Dr Maphios Siamuchembu said the family refused to take the body when they were told about the death and was demanding compensation.

“ They said they were not happy that they were not told when he fell, they were not told at the time he died.

I am in possession of a letter in which they were demanding US$50 000 compensation before they could agree to take the body,” he said.

Dr Siamuchembu said it was clear right from the beginning that health workers, specifically the nurses, who had attended to him from the time of admission to the time of his death, had done something wrong.

He said the hospital management sought advice from the Ministry of Health and Child Care on how to handle the issue and the ministry gave the hospital permission to, among other things, assist with funeral expenses.

The family was also being assisted with food periodically before the burial.

He said the hospital will not compensate the family.

“The hospital is a government entity.

It has no resources, and no mandate to stand alone as a legal entity that can be made to pay compensation.

Asking the hospital to pay compensation is asking the government to pay compensation, and that is beyond my scope as PMD to comment.

What the hospital has done is to apply internal disciplinary measures to the wrong doing health workers involved. What these measures are, I think, is not for public consumption,” said Dr Siamuchembu.-Chronicle

Panicky Zanu PF Claims CCC Leaders Are CIA Agents

ZANU PF national secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa has invoked the spirit of Mbuya Nehanda as Zimbabwe faces another possible onslaught from the United States of America.

Chinamasa also accused CCC leaders Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti of doing the United States’s bidding and vowed that they will never rule Zimbabwe, adding that the spirit of Mbuya Nehanda will not allow it.

In 2002, the United States passed the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act( ZIDERA), a law which imposed economic sanctions on Zimbabwe, allegedly to provide for a transition to democracy and to promote economic recovery.

Chinamasa said on 29 April 2022 the U.S. Government, through its embassy in Harare, wrote to Zimbabwe, asking the southern African country “to take additional immediate action to forego military-technical cooperation with Russia in response to Russia’s massive, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine”.

He accused the United States of supporting the illegal Ian Smith Regime in Rhodesia and going as far as passing the Byrd Amendment to circumvent the UN sanctions against Rhodesia. Said Chinamasa:

… the US communication of 29 April 2022 must be understood for what it is, a call to Zimbabwe to publicly disarm itself.

Zimbabwe should never allow foreign forces to dictate who its friends should be.

We thank Our President Cde ED Mnangagwa for his resoluteness in refusing emphatically to do the Bully’s bidding.

Thank you for making it clear that under no circumstances will quislings and CIA agents in the name of Mr Chamisa and Mr Biti ever rule this country come what may!

Zanu PF Nyatsime Stalwart Dies Mysteriously

Zanu-PF chairperson for Nyatsime, George Murabatsvina, the man who amongst others barred Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters from mourning their slain colleague Moreblessing Ali at her home in Nyatsime has been confirmed dead.

Murambatsvina is said to have died after a short illness.

Together with another Zanu-PF official, Masimbi Masimbi, Murambatsvina declared the area a no-go-area for opposition supporters soon just before there were running battles between the two main political parties.

Opposition supporters have taken to social media in “celebration,” arguing the late Ali’s “unsettled spirit” is avenging.

Chicken Inn Extend Lead At PSL Summit

Chicken Inn opened a four-point lead at the top after beating Cranborne Bullets 4-1 in the Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 18 encounter on Saturday.

The Gamecocks recovered from an early scare after the hosts had taken the lead through Tadiwa Chibunyu at the quarter-hour mark. Malvin Hwata scored the equaliser in the 23rd minute before Bret Amidu completed the turn-around on the stroke of halftime.

Brian Muza stretched the lead with fifteen minutes to go, and Munashe Pini sealed the triumph just moments before the final whistle.

The extended-gap at the top of the table was aided by Dynamos’ slump against Yadah in the capital.

The Glamour Boys fell behind the leaders after succumbing to a late Ralph Matema’s goal.

The Harare giants spent the majority of the first half of the season at the top of the table. A boardroom decision to give Highlanders their matchday 15 encounter on a 3-0 scoreline plus the latest defeat put them in second place and four points behind Chicken Inn.

Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum Stars bounced back to winning ways in style after thrashing Bulawayo City 3-0.

Madamburo had failed to pick maximum points in the last two games, but second-half goals from Bruno Mtigo (49′), Denver Mukamba (56′) and Delic Murimba (85′) ended the winless streak.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Orlando Pirates To Offload Dzvukamanja ?

Terrence Dzvukamaja’s future at Orlando Pirates is reportedly in doubt amid rumours the club could release the Zimbabwean forward in this window.

Dzvukamaja failed to reach top form at the Soweto giants and only managed two goals in thirty-five appearances last season.

According to the South African outlet Daily Sun, the 28-year-old is among five players expected to leave Pirates.

“The club confirmed the players who are no longer needed, but there’s still more,” an unnamed source revealed to the newspaper.

“Other players, who have struggled with game time, such as Tlolane, want to leave. Negotiations are still underway with certain players.”

However, the publication adds that it’s still unclear whether the club will release them outright or loan them out.

So far, seven players- Kwanda Mngonyama, Abel Mabaso, Justice Chabalala, Elson Sithole, Wayne Sandilands and Thabang Monare – have already been shown the exit door.

They joined Thulani Hlatshwayo, who became the first player to leave the club.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Safe Blood Transfusion Tips

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.
The day also provides an opportunity to call to action governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors and to manage access to blood and the transfusion of those who require it.

Blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anaemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of haemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries.

To ensure that everyone who needs transfusion has access to safe blood, all countries need voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly. An effective blood donor programme, characterized by wide and active participation of the population, is crucial in meeting the need of blood transfusion during peace time as well as during emergencies or disasters, when there is a surge in demand for blood or when the normal operation of blood services is affected. While an enabling social and cultural atmosphere with strong solidarity facilitates development of an effective blood donor programme, it is also widely acknowledged that the act of blood donation contributes to generating social ties and building a united community.

Focus of this year’s campaign
For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.
A particular activity that countries in the world are encouraged to implement for this year’s campaign is to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.

Other activities that would help promote the slogan of this year’s World Blood Donor Day may include donor appreciation ceremonies, social networking campaigns, special media broadcasts, social media posts featuring individual blood donors with the slogan, meetings and workshops, musical and artistic events to thank blood donors and celebrate solidarity, and colouring iconic monuments red.

Your involvement and support will help to ensure greater impact for World Blood Donor Day 2022, increasing recognition worldwide that giving blood is a life-saving act of solidarity and that services providing safe blood and blood products are an essential element of every health care system. Participation of interested partners is welcome at all levels to make World Blood Donor Day 2022 a global success.

S.A Fuel May Rise To R40 A Litre

The ongoing war in Ukraine is costing South Africa billions in lost revenues and added costs, and trade officials are concerned that further widespread disruptions to the local economy are likely.

The crisis led to a meeting last week between Western Cape agriculture MEC Ivan Meyer and the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry at which Meyer outlined some of the key concerns and interventions stemming from the conflict, the Sunday Times reports.

Some of the specific concerns raised during the meeting include:

– The price of fuel may rise to as high as R40 a litre, with wheat farmers reporting a 100% increase in fertiliser prices;

– Scanning for explosives and weapons in Russia-bound containers  increased transit time to St Petersburg from 23 days to 90;

– Moscow’s suspension from the Swift (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) global payments system delayed payment for exports to Russia.

“It goes without saying that rising fuel prices and the price of wheat-based commodities like bread will continue to rise if this is not nipped in the bud soon,” said Jannie Venter, business development/trade-lane manager at ISS — Global Forwarding SA and vice-chair of the Western Cape Exporters Club.

More hikes coming

Early forecasts show that South Africa is facing another steep petrol price in July, with other prices increases also set to take effect, said Investec chief economist Annabel Bishop in a research note on Wednesday (22 June).

Bishop said CPI inflation in June is expected to rise above 7.0% y/y on the R2.33/litre hike in the petrol price, base effects, food price pressures and potentially some second-round effects of rising inflation on rentals/owner equivalent rent and other categories.

“High commodity prices are flowing through rapidly to consumers in South Africa via higher transport and food prices, and another petrol price hike is currently building for July of R1.92/litre.

“We expect CPI inflation to average 6.5% y/y for this year, as the Russian/Ukraine war continues for longer than expected and the effects of the war, and deglobalisation, intensify on price pressures, causing inflation expectations to rise globally and domestically.”

She further warned against expectations for food and energy price collapses in the near term, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensifying, and so sanctions against Russia, and NATO now warning that the war could last for years, providing no end in sight for related price pressures.

Additionally, adverse weather conditions persist in some regions globally and domestically, and indeed are expected to intensify as climate change strengthens, she said.-BusinessTech

Police Uniformed Zanu Pf Thugs Terrorise CCC MPs In Nyatsime

By A Correspondent- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Saturday claimed Zanu PF thugs in police uniforms were terrorising their legislators in Nyatsime, with one of them being robbed of a vehicle.

Nyatsime has been a no-go-area since the body of late CCC activist Moreblessing Ali was discovered dismembered, stuffed in sacks and thrown in a well.

Ali was killed by a suspected Zanu PF supporter for her anti-regime stance according to the opposition.

“Violence Alert: Suspected Zanu PF thugs in @PoliceZimbawe uniforms are terrorizing CCC legislators, councilors and other members in Chitungwiza and Nyatsime. The thugs robbed Hon Chimbaira of his car. They’re being persecuted for demanding justice for Moreblessing Ali,” said the CCC on Twitter.

Senior CIO Chef Hauled To Court Over Fraud, Extortion

A senior Central Intelligence Organisation officer Leonard Mutandwa appeared in court on Friday charged with fraud and extortion.

Mutandwa (48), the Divisional Intelligence Officer, was arrested alongside Charles Benjamin Chari (57) while another operative, Godknows Ganyani is allegedly on the run.

The complainant is a co-director of Welli-Will Industries Wilbert Makonese.

According to the police investigations, sometime in 2021, the complainant supplied goods worth US$392 000 to the Primary and Secondary Education ministry and received no payment.

Makonese was in dire need of the payment to enable him to repay a loan his company took from the Industrial Development Bank of Zimbabwe.

It is alleged that Mutandwa got wind of Makonese’s predicament, and hatched a plan to defraud and extort money from him.

Mutandwa  and his co-accused offered to assist in the processing of the payment from the relevant ministry, but demanded kickbacks for their efforts.

Makonese succumbed to the pressure and gave the accused US$1 500.

On November 22, the trio duped Makonese again after misrepresenting that the Office of the President wanted him to donate US$10 000 to an unnamed charity organisation.

The complainant gave the trio US$4 000 towards the donation.

The trio further demanded another US$500 claiming it was a facilitation fee.

Makonese was also forced to pay for Ganyani’s travel expenses from Chiredzi, including hotel bills totalling US$4 000 and US$450 to buy new clothes.

It was also alleged that on June 21 this year, the trio demanded US$30 000 from Makonese, claiming that it was a payment for having facilitated prompt payment of the money which he was owed by the ministry.

But Makonese had not received payment from the ministry.

The trio started threatening Makonese, saying he would face unspecified action if he failed to pay them the money.

Makonese became suspicious of the the trio’s claims and threats and realised that he had been duped.

He filed a police report and a trap was set, leading to the arrest of Mutandwa on June 22 at Makonese’s business premises where he had gone to collect some money.

Mutandwa then implicated Chari.-standard

Another Zanu PF Leader In Nyatsime Dies

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF chairlady for Nyatsime Ward 9 has died just hours after the death of George Murambatsvina, the party’s chairperson for Nyatsime.

facebook post

Murambatsvina, the man amongst others who barred Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters from mourning their slain colleague Moreblessing Ali at her home in Nyatsime.

Murambatsvina is said to have died after a short illness.

The ZANU-PF Nyatsime ward 9 Chairlady reportedly died at a local hospital today.

Like Murambatsvina, she was allegedly part of a grouping which was barring mourners from attending Moreblessing Ali’s funeral.

Meanwhile, two theories have been thrown already to explain the deaths. Some say it is Moreblessing Ali’s avenging spirit killing them while some argue that it could be the ruling ZANU PF killing them to get rid of any evidence that proves that Ali’s death was politically-motivated.

Said one commentator:

This could be Zanu-Pf itself, clearing evidence. Politics hadzina kuchipa idzi

Another one said:

Vana Chimwene havabatwi munopera rudzi rwese [you don’t kill people with Malawi origins and expect to get away with it.]

Ali was abducted on the 24th of May by one Pius Mukandi alias Jamba at Chibhanguza bar in Beatrice. Her mutilated body was discovered on the 11th of June in a well in the same area.

The opposition CCC claims that the abduction and murder of the activist were politically-motivated. The ruling ZANU PF dismisses the claims, rather dismisses it as a domestic violence case.

Police say preliminary results from investigations do not suggest that the incident was political in nature.

Trade Unionist Abducted For Leading Strike. Who Is Strauss Logistics?

The former president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Peter Mutasa has said trade unionist, Robert Muwawa who was reportedly abducted after leading a strike at Strauss Logistics is alive.

The drivers at Strauss Logistics embarked on industrial action over “victimisation in the transport industry,” according to the Zimbabwe Truck Drivers Union which represents haulage truck drivers.

The union said Muwawa, Strauss Logistics Workers Committee Secretary, went missing on Wednesday afternoon after receiving threatening calls from Assistant Inspector Mutema from Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Southerton.

In an update, Mutasa said Muwawa was found in “a bush and picked up by good Samaritans.” He added:

He is not too well We will be advised of his condition by the family and union @haulage_union We must not allow this in our country and in the labour market

MAFIA STATE

Zimbabwe has joined Colombia, Guatemala etc in terms of abduction and torture of trade unionists for leading a strike It is sad how Robert Muwawa was treated for leading a strike at Strauss Logistics Who is behind this? Who is Strauss Logistics?

Although brutalized and traumatized, we thank God that Robert Muwawa is alive However he was inhumanely treated There is nothing as traumatic than being kept in captivity, threatened with death, tortured. Zimbabwe is destroyed, it is now a Mafia State.

A LinkedIn profile says Strauss Logistics Zimbabwe (PVT) Limited (“SLZ”) “is the market leader in fuel and dry cargo distribution utilising both road and rail networks throughout the Central and Southern African Regions.”

75 ZIMRA Officials Nabbed Since 2018 For Corruption

By A Correspondent- A total of 75 Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) employees have been arrested and prosecuted for various corrupt activities between 2018 and 2021.

The revelations come days as ZIMRA is investigating three Beitbridge-based revenue officers who built mansions in Harare, but failed to account to their employer how they raised the money following a lifestyle audit.

ZIMRA acting Commissioner-General Ms Regina Chinamasa last week told a stakeholder meeting in Masvingo that in addition to the 75 employees, 34 stakeholders were also arrested, according to The Sunday News.

Mrs Chinamasa said provinces like Masvingo which are along the main Beitbridge-Chirundu highway should play a pivotal role in dealing with corruption. She said:

Masvingo is strategically located on the North-South corridor and there is a lot of enforcement activities that is happening in the region.

Given its importance geographically we also find that it’s so important that as Masvingo we embrace the fight against corruption because it could be very rife in this area.

Given our strategic location in the region, as ZIMRA, it is our pledge not to allow Zimbabwe to be the final destination or transit of smuggled goods.

In responding to issues on the aspect of remuneration as the officers face temptation from businesspeople who try to avoid paying duties, Mrs Chinamasa cautioned that there was a very thin line between being greedy and being adequately remunerated.

She said the authority believes negotiated positions always bring out a win-win situation which promotes opportunities that compel officers to resist, report and reject corruption.

Speaking at the same event, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira said corruption was a nationwide scourge which requires people to join in the fight. He himself was last year arrested for alleged corruption involving sugarcane plots at Kilimanjaro, Chiredzi.

ZLHR STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY IN SUPPORT OF VICTIMS OF TORTURE

ON this International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) encourages the public to provide the necessary support to all victims of this evil crime.

ZLHR also urges the authorities to implement comprehensive reform measures that will lead to eradication of all forms of torture in the country as mandated by international law and the Constitution of Zimbabwe. The authorities should also ensure that all perpetrators of the heinous crime of torture are held accountable for transgressions.

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is commemorated annually on 26 June in order to honour the victims and survivors of the crime of torture. It is important for everyone to reflect on the lives of the victims of torture, the survivors of the heinous practice and the families who are impacted by the trauma inflicted on their loved ones. It is also important for everyone to support victims of torture and their families through financial and social assistance.

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is an opportunity for everyone to demand an end to the egregious practice of torture by public officials and their agents. It is also an opportunity for citizens, all over the globe, to lobby their governments to take steps
towards the prosecution of all perpetrators of the abominable crime of torture.

It is also an opportunity for the public to reflect on the world’s commitment to eradicating torture, as entrenched in the United Nations Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, which came into effect on 26 June 1987 (the Torture Convention).

Unfortunately, this Torture Convention has not yet been ratified by the Zimbabwean authorities. Nevertheless, this important instrument has been ratified by at least 162 nations worldwide and it is now regarded as part of customary international law. The Torture Convention is therefore binding on all nations of the world, including Zimbabwe. ZLHR therefore urges the Zimbabwean authorities to comply with the Torture Convention, in accordance with their international law obligations. The authorities are also urged to speedily ratify the Torture Convention and join the rest of the world in protecting
fundamental human rights.

Despite the fact that the Zimbabwean authorities have not yet ratified the Torture Convention, the Constitution of Zimbabwe obliges the authorities to protect everyone from torture.

In terms of section 53 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, no person may be subjected to physical or psychological torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Importantly, section 86(3)(c) of the Constitution states that the right not to be tortured is absolute and may not be violated or limited in any circumstances.

The Constitution, in section 51 and section 52, also entrenches everyone’s right to human dignity and bodily and psychological integrity, respectively. ZLHR continues to represent many victims of torture to claim monetary awards against their perpetrators.

ZLHR urges the authorities to comply with their constitutional obligations by implementing measures that are aimed at preventing torture in Zimbabwe’s detention centres, prisons, police stations and communities at large.

ZLHR also urges the authorities to ensure that all perpetrators of torture are held accountable for their crimes, through criminal prosecutions and other remedies that are aimed at compensating the victims of torture.

On this International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, ZLHR calls upon:

•       The public to continue to support all victims and survivors of the evil crime of torture;
•       The Zimbabwean authorities to implement comprehensive reform measures that are designed to prevent and eradicate torture;
•       The authorities to comply with their constitutional obligation of protecting everyone from torture;
•       The authorities to ensure that all perpetrators of the deplorable crime of torture are held accountable for their crimes;
•       The authorities to ratify the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

Zanu PF Speaks On CCC Nyanga Offices Vandalism

By- Zanu PF has refuted claims that its supporters attacked and destroyed the opposition CCC offices in Nyanga.

CCC said that its offices were vandalised by Zanu PF thugs last weekend.

Vandals defaced CCC offices at Ruwangwe business centre and destroyed all doors and windows on Sunday night.

CCC Manicaland provincial spokesperson David Panganai blamed Zanu PF for the attack. Said Panganai:

A leopard does not change its spots, as the adage goes, Zanu PF will not let go its violent political belief.

On Monday morning CCC members woke up to see their offices vandalised.

All the windows and doors were completely destroyed by thugs who had earlier been addressed by their local leadership and legislator to attack all known CCC members.

They then went on a rampage, destroying property at Ruwangwe business centre.

The matter was reported to the police but no arrests have been made yet.

Those being used to exercise violence against their fellow countrymen must be reminded that violence does not solve price hikes on basic needs, create employment and unite their fractured party.

Zanu PF Nyanga North legislator Chido Sanyatwe said the ruling party was not responsible for the vandalism.

She also denied accusations that she had encouraged her supporters to beat up opponents or destroy their property. Sanyatwe said:

I never addressed anyone inciting violence against CCC members because that party to me is a non-event. I am confident of a win.

Nyanga North is one of the most peaceful constituencies in this country. Zanu PF is not here to fight CCC or vice versa, because we are all Zimbabwean citizens.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, said they were still conducting investigations into the matter. He said:

We do not have evidence that points to politically motivated violence other than malicious damage to property, which occurred overnight.

We are seized with the matter and still investigating. When there are leads or arrests they will be made public.

Obituary: A Tribute to Alex the Great Zimbabwean

By Daniel Molokele| No matter whatever else happens in my life; I doubt that I will ever forget my very first personal encounter with our recently deceased Zimbabwean icon and legend, Alex Tawanda Magaisa.

It must have been on one of those sunny and lazy mornings at the Faculty of Law at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) sometime during the early part October 1995.

It was actually during the morning after the results of the candidate nomination process for the Students Representative Council (SRC) number one elections had been formally promulgated during the previous day.

During those days, the UZ had a dual electoral system that was used to elect its 15-member SRC. Firstly, the presidential elections were held separately and produced the SRC’s top two leaders; the President and the Vice President. Then a week later after the presidential elections, all students were given another opportunity to vote again. This time they would be voting under the so-called SRC number one elections.

It was in fact this particular election, that was used to elect the other 13 members of the SRC. It was a popularity contest that also traditionally was used to appoint the first winning candidate as the next Secretary General of the students union.

As perhaps, the most politically super-charged faculty in the entire campus, it was not such a big surprise that most law students were having some animated conversations, if not debates about the outcome or implications of the nomination process for that particular year.

One of the interesting stories that was most definitely trending that morning was the fact that the list of 55 candidates for the 1995-96 SRC number one elections had produced a surprise candidate from the faculty of law.

However, it was the second-year law students who had produced the highest number of candidates that year, who were the most fascinated and enthused by this little-known surprise candidate.

I remember while basking under the glorious shine of the African sun, some of the second years had asked my first-year classmates to help them to identity me. Honestly speaking up to the nomination process, I had not done anything of real significance to warrant me being well known at the UZ, beyond my own classmates

I had been admitted at the faculty of law during the earlier part of that same year, in March. As such, I was still to a large extent a really green-horned freshman especially when it came to the issues around the next generation of student leaders.

The rather curious second-year law students who approached me spoke to me in a rather wry manner. Worse still, I could even sense an air of snobbery some of them. They obviously thought I was a clueless novice who had no idea whatsoever about the UZ electoral system. They most certainly expected me to be among the worst losers in the race. In their considered view, I was seen simply as a misguided upstart who was going to lose the race dismally.

Among the second-years who mobbed me was none other than the great Alex Tawanda Magaisa himself.

I vividly recall as to how he remained behind when his bemused classmates walked away from me. He seemed to be keener to understand me more and was very interested to find out more about my political credentials. I did manage to explain to him as to how I was a special candidate that was being sponsored by an alliance for Christian students fellowships as led by the UZ Christian Union and the then Students Chaplain Dr. Sebastian Bakare.

He had this sort of empathic demeanour that was mostly punctuated by this enchanting smile as he spoke to me. In the end, he patted me on the back and wished me the best of success in the forthcoming elections. He then calmly walked away from me.

After he left me. I was left very impressed by his obviously genuine humane spirit. He really managed to make a lasting impression to me as a selfless and generous person who was somehow always willing to serve and affirm all those around him.

A few weeks later the SRC number one elections were eventually held. But an even bigger surprise awaited the faculty of law. A rare thing happened; all our candidates failed to make it into the top 13.

Well, almost all.

Traditionally the faculty of law not only had a several good number of members in every SRC, but also tended to have someone making it to the most influential positions in the SRC.

For example, the previous SRC for 1994-95 had managed to have Brian Kagoro as its Vice President and Tinomudaishe Chinyoka as its Secretary General. Added to that, Chinyoka had also previously served as the President for the 1993-94 SRC.

But I do digress.

As alluded to, the dismal performance of our candidates grossly shocked our faculty of law. While most law students were desperately trying to make sense of the results; news started to filter through that the overall winner among the 55 candidates was actually the very same least fancied law student.

Not only that, a day later it was also announced that he had also been appointed as the next Secretary General of the UZ students’ union; still in his first year at the university.

It was then then that some of the second-year students that had earlier on mocked one of their own, were then forced to eat a lot of humble pie and congratulate him as the new Secretary General of the UZ students’ union.

It was also during that time; that the great Alex Magaisa had his second personal encounter with me.

However, this time, he not only heartily congratulated me but also took some time to offer his free and unsolicited advice to me. Further, he availed himself to freely give me advice whenever I felt that I needed some political guidance. He then wished me the best of success in my new career as a students leader

My impression of Alex during those first two personal encounters in 1995 actually served as a permanent character template for hos approach towards our relationship until he passed away recently.

I also remember that he was one of the people who approached me and offered me his personal supposed when I became the Acting President of the UZ students’ union in April 1996.

This then led to me approaching him and requesting him to be part of the Constitutional review Committee that I had set up as part of the fulfillment of one of my key electoral campaign promises. During my campaign, I had openly advocated for a total overhaul of the UZ students’ union constitution so as to promote a new culture of transparency and accountability in the local students movement

The Constitutional review Committee met during the next study vacation and proposed a series of far-reaching changes, One of which, was the dualization of the SRC into two counter-balancing entities. The Committee proposed for the setting up of a new faculty-based representative structure that would act more like a Parliament known as the Students Representative Assembly (SRA).

Added to that, the Committee proposed for the setting up of the Students Executive Committee (SEC) that had a reduced number of 10 members. Another radical proposal was the introduction of a sabbatical President. This meant that once a student was elected as the new President, they would take a total break from their academic studies for a year in order to enable them to focus on managing or leading the students’ body politic.

I vividly recall as to how Alex distinguished himself as a Constitutional Review Committee member. He actively participated throughout the constitutional review process. He was one of the Committee members who was actively questioning and interrogating every new suggested proposal. By the time the Committee came up with its proposed draft Constitution he had already managed to establish himself not as a credible opinion maker but also as one of the undisputed moral leaders of the Committee

The constitutional review process experience also went a long way into establishing ‘mukoma Alex’ as one of my most consistent allies in my political career.

Later on, Mukoma Alex, was always there to support me in the various initiatives that I was actively part of.

I do remember that during my tenure as the international Coordinator of the Global Zimbabwe Forum (GZF) between 2007 and 2010, Mukoma Alex agreed to help me to actively set up the United Kingdom chapter for the GZF.

He also supported me when he was part of the Office of the Prime Minister, during the all-inclusive government when I came up with the Zimbabwe Diaspora Education Support Initiative (ZDESI)

Mukoma Alex was one of the key people I approached for advice in the early part of 2017 when I was approached to return to Zimbabwe and run for political office in my hometown of Whange. He was very supportive of my bold decision to leave South Africa and return home to launch my political career as a parliamentarian.

Once I was successfully elected as the new Member of Parliament for Whange central constituency; Mukoma Alex heartily congratulated me and once again offered himself to act as an advisor to me.

He was also one of the first people to congratulate me when he heard that I had been appointed as the new Chairperson for the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Tertiary and Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development in September 2018.

As if it was not enough, Mukoma Alex openly supported me and contributed financially when I stood up to campaign for the office of the Secretary General of the MDC Alliance during the May 2019 Congress that was held in Gweru.

In the last few years, Mukoma Alex has also actively supported me in the various solidarity initiative that I have been coordinating

In particular, Mukoma Alex actively contributed financially to the Madzokere and Maengahama Solidarity movement and also to the Makomborero Haruzvishe solidarity initiative last year.

However, it was with regards to my late political brother Learnmore Jongwe legacy solidarity initiative that Mukoma Alex was at his supportive best. Over time he proved himself to be one of the most consistent financial contributors to the Jongwe legacy.

Added to that, he would never miss any available opportunity express his admiration about my enduring and consistent loyalty and commitment towards the Jongwe legacy. He always emphasized to me as to how he was always inspired by my rather unusual ability to remain true to my friendship with Jongwe despite the fierce attacks I had always sustained from his arms of critics along the way.

Suffice for me to say that, the last financial contribution that I got from Mukoma Alex was sent to me during the mid-part of March this year. He was one of the people who responded to an appeal to my personal networks for financial support after I was deployed to actively support out Tsholotsho South by-elections candidate Tapson Nganunu Sibanda during the 26th March 2022 by-elections.

As such Iwas so shocked when I first heard about his passing away. My initial response was to pray and hope that it was the typical fake news that we have now grown accustomed to in the social media. But as more and more reliable sources started to confirm the sad news, it then eventually dawned on me that the Great Alex Magaisa was actually gone forever.

The pain of me losing him, was made even more devastating due to the fact that I was still recovering from the irreplaceable loss of Dewa Mavhinga who was also a key player in the fight for a peaceful and truly democratic Zimbabwe.

In the final analysis, I would like to take this opportunity to honour, celebrate and totally appreciate Alex Magaisa for the life journey that he shared with me starting in 1995 during our faculty of law days. He was indeed a very positive influence in my life.

Personally, he is definitely an irreplaceable loss for me. I will really miss his ability to advise me freely and wholeheartedly without necessarily expecting anything in return from me.

Having said that, I really need to underscore the point that Mukoma Alex is not just a personal loss to me but to many other millions of people across the world who depended a lot on him.

In particular, most Zimbabweans had grown to value and appreciate him immensely in recent years, mainly due to his ability to explain the most complex legal and political matters in the most simple and basic terms.

Indeed, I have no doubt that so many millions of people out there will now struggle a lot to adapt to a new life without the evergreen Big Saturday Read (BSR)

Mukoma Alex definitely ran his good race and also fought his good fight. He was an example of a most patriotic Zimbabwean that we could ever have as a nation. He did not just give his best for the good of his nation but also gave his all. His everything. I have no doubt that by all accounts and definition, Mukoma Alex certainly qualified to be honoured as a true national hero.

He was indeed, Alex the Great Zimbabwean.

May his patriotic soul rest in peace now and forevermore. Amen.

ZANU PF Oils Delegates With Cash

ZANU-PF’s National Women’s League yesterday re-elected Angeline Masuku as the deputy secretary for the women’s wing, while Secretary for Administration Monica Mutsvangwa also retained her post at the party’s 7th National Women’s League Conference that in Harare ended yesterday.

Cathrine Chirongwe is Secretary for Education.

Musa Ncube was elected Secretary for Transport and Social Welfare and Lucy Mudzingwa is the new Secretary for Information and Publicity.

Announcing results of the Elective Conference yesterday, Zanu-PF Political Commissar Mike Bimha urged the newly elected members to hit the ground running saying the work they had been elected to do for the party was more important than positions they hold.

“So, let us not look at the positions, but let us say to ourselves that we have been given the opportunity to contribute immensely to the success of the party.

The new National Women’s League Executive should realise that the work before us is to win the elections next year,” he said.

Other elected members are Secretary for Legal Affairs and Women’s Rights, Cecilia Bhebhe-Ndubiwa while Dorothy Mashonganyika is Secretary for Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment.

Maidei Mpala was elected Secretary for Production and Labour with Bertha Chinyanga taking up the post of Secretary for Health and Child Welfare.

Madam Boss Announces: “We’ve Found Livingstone Alive, All We Wanted Were His Bones”

By A Correspondent | The below video is of the Socialite Madam Boss announcing a dark statement over the discovery of the missing St Matthias pupil Livingstone Sunhwe’s remains.

Tyra Chikosho is heard saying that she and others found the dead lad alive and well. She then soon afterwards rushes to say all they wanted was to see his bones.

MADAM BOSS: We have found Livingstone, alive. All what we wanted were his bones. What we wanted, were his bones. ‘We are more than conquerors.’ Excuse me, you killed Livingstone, we’ve found his bones. We are now going g to bury him. HlV And Aids’ll Still Destroy Africa For Decades to Come

By Pepukai Begede – AUTHOR Of Evolution of Communities | With the rapid technological changes happening globally coupled by rapid erosion of cultural values in Africa in the pretext of modernisation, l foresee disaster in the long run. Many of our new generation are increasingly becoming ignorant about HIV & Aids pandemic.

Hiv and Aids is still very active in Africa and especially in the Southern part of Africa. We may argue about why the Aids virus is more prevalent in Africa than any other continent? Such a question will however have to be set aside as dog’s meat for another day. We should in one way or the other be conscious and willing to analyse some conspiracy theories in the public domain concerning the prevalence of Hiv and Aids in Africa. If say the Agenda, as some sections imply, was to reduce the population of Africans in the continent then we should be more careful about how we handle this pandemic. It is not Covid19 but HIV we should fight harder than ever! Take note that this writer is an advocator for the preservation of African Cultures and Traditions which are the pillars that protect our moral fibre through the promotion of Abstinence and no sex before marriage values.

As Africans we are guided by our cultures and traditions to preserve our moral values. However, the moment our children are subconsciously taken away from these pillars of foundation then immoral behaviour becomes more rampant. In particular sexual immorality is becoming more prevalent in our societies and the ignorance of the existence of HIV & Aids will paralyse our nation. What would we expect from a generation being exposed to pornographic material at a tender age through the internet?

Statistical information on the ground are showing a resurgence in the number of HIV infections. This is a serious situation and if ignored we will one day wake up to find nearly half of our youthful population infected with this disease. It is becoming increasingly less popular to educate our youth about Abstinence and Preservation of our Cultural norms. We have to be vigilant once again or else we are facing a bleak future!

CIO Arrested For Fraud

Mutandwa then implicated Chari.– Standard

Key Facts About Blood Donors

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.

Chimanimani Man Killed For Holding Hostage Woman On Satanism Allegations

By A Correspondent- A Chimanimani man was killed by the son of a woman he had allegedly held hostage on satanism allegations.

The suspected murderer, Clever Mwandipererwa (29) of Nemaramba Village under Chief Mutambara was dragged before a magistrate last week.

He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Langton Carter.

Mwandipererwa was remanded in custody to Wednesday.

Prosecutor Nyasha Donald Mukonyora told the court that Mwandipererwa struck his neighbour, Godfrey Murungura (27) after he had allegedly abducted his mother.

Mukonyora said on 8 June, Mwandipererwa’s mother, Gogo Irene Gapara (62), was abducted by Murungura and other villagers over allegations that she was practising Satanism.

Gogo Mapara was allegedly detained at Murungura’s home for a night. Said Mukonyora:

On June 9, Mwandipererwa approached Murungura and asked him to release his mother. Murungura refused and a dispute ensued between the two.

Mwandipererwa tried to force his way into the room where his mother was detained, but Murungura barred him from doing so.

There was an altercation between the two, resulting in Mwandipererwa taking a stone and striking the deceased with it.

Mwandipererwa lunged on Murungura and he fell to the ground. He attacked him with a handle of an axe.

He later grabbed a pick handle and continued pummelling Murungura with it until he lost consciousness. Murungura died on the spot.

A report was made to the police who attended the scene.

The deceased’s body was taken to Birchenough Bridge Hospital mortuary.-ManicaPost

Accident Threatens Residents, Motorists, Environmental Health

An accident involving a heavy truck carrying a potentially hazardous chemical that occurred along the Chirundu-Harare highway, poses risks to local residents, motorists and the environment.

According to Chirundu local board secretary Wilson Gunhe, the border town has more than 5 000 residents.

Thousands of travellers to and from Zambia also use the highway which passes through the town.

On Tuesday, a Mukumba Brothers truck (registration number J00KLGP/WPL3860GP/WHB980GP) carrying 30 000 litres of beta froth liquid overturned at the 265-kilometre peg along the highway.

This resulted in the spillage of 30 000 litres of the chemical into the environment.

Noone was killed in the accident but the driver was injured and is admitted to Karoi Hospital.

The chemical flowed through the road, creating a slippery surface and contaminating the road verges.

The Environment Management Agency (EMA) provincial education and advocacy officer for Mashonaland West, Munyaradzi Nhariswa, confirmed the development. Said Nhariswa:

Beta froth is a flocculation used mainly in the mining sector in native metals metallurgy.

It is harmful if inhaled, causes respiratory tract irritation and is harmful if absorbed through the skin.

It causes eye irritation, is harmful if swallowed and damage the eyes.

It is toxic to fish and is also 92% ready to biodegrade and affects the vegetation by blocking its stomata.

He added that although the transporter had a valid transportation permit, they failed to notify EMA on time to ensure the swift monitoring and containment of the spillage scene.
Nhariswa said an environmental protection order was served on the transporter to clean the spillage scene to the satisfaction of EMA.
The accident occurred barely three days after another spillage, involving a MAICOs also known as Top Hisheen (registration number JJ35CNGP/JJ34VFGP/JJ34LBGP) truck.
The truck was carrying 35 tonnes of sulphur, which spilt into the environment but no fatality was recorded, according to Nhariswa.

“You Will Be Jailed For Building Houses On Unserviced Land”: Garwe

Housing and Social Amenities minister, Daniel Garwe, said that local authorities should issue housing stands to home seekers in areas that are fully serviced.

Speaking at the launch of the Hopelyn Housing scheme in Bulawayo recently, Garwe said it is now a jailable offence to build a house before infrastructure such as roads, functioning water and sewer systems have been put in place. Garwe said:

What we are doing now going forward is to ensure that on-site and off-site infrastructure is provided before any house is built.

Building a house before the services are provided is now a jailable offence. I have no apologies to make for that statement.

It’s criminal for local authorities to allow people to build on virgin land.

Garwe said his ministry was playing its role by assisting banks, investors and local authorities to deliver housing to citizens.

Zimbabwe has an estimated 1.5 million housing backlog.

VP Chiwenga Castigates Corruption

By A Correspondent- VP President Constantine Chiwenga today said corruption has no place in society as he admitted that the vice was denying citizens a decent standard of living.

In a speech read  on his behalf by Higher and Tertiary Education minister, Amon Murwira at the Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe (ICDZ) convention in Kariba, Chiwenga said:  “This is why Peter Drucker said: ‘effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked. Leadership is defined by results not attributes.’

“I, therefore, advise you to act within the confines of the law because all those involved in immoral acts would be made to face the full wrath of the law. At the end of the day, Zimbabwe is the sum total of our individual efforts.

“Therefore, let us not be distracted by sideshows in our resolve to make Zimbabwe a better place.”

The ICDZ convention is being held under the theme: :”Innovate, Engage and Empower.”

Chiwenga said Zimbabweans deserved improved conditions of living including access to social amenities.

“Our people want food, water, shelter, sleep and connection (physical or emotional). For this to happen, consciousness of who we are as a people, what we have, what we aspire to be with the aim to raise the quality of life of all Zimbabweans,” Chiwenga said.-newsday

Zanu PF Incentives Traditional Leaders Ahead Of 2023 Polls

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF has promised to give incentives to hundreds of traditional leaders in Masvingo province for them to mobilise people to vote for the party during the 2023 general election while also moving to make village heads cell chairpersons in a move that has infuriated the opposition.

This was disclosed by the party’s second secretary Kembo Mohadi (pictured) during a one-week visit to the province a fortnight ago where he met traditional leaders together with Zanu-PF district coordinating committee (DCC) members in all districts.

The use of traditional leaders by the ruling party is one of the issues usually raised by opposition parties like the Citizens’ Coalition for Change as a rigging tactic used by Zanu-PF to threaten rural folks. The ruling party usually dominates in rural areas but in 2008 the opposition led by Morgan Tsvangirai managed to win three constituencies in Zaka as well as in Bikita and Gutu.

Mohadi promised to give the traditional leaders, including all village heads, US$50 on a monthly basis and a bicycle, a move seen by opponents and analysts as a vote-buying gimmick meant to force community leaders to mobilise for the party. Traditional leaders have often been used to threaten and intimidate villagers during the election period.

In some cases traditional leaders have been known to keep voting registers working in laison with Zanu-PF officials.

In Zaka, Mohadi appealed to the community leaders to ensure that what happened to 2008 should not

be repeated and all those who support the opposition should be brought to book. Back in 2008, the then president Robert Mugabe lost the first round of the presidential election to the MDC-T’s Morgan Tsvangirai, forcing a runoff which resulted in the military taking over the ruling party’s campaign and unleashing violence which resulted in the opposition leader pulling out of the race.

A chief from Chiredzi told The NewsHawks Mohadi’s tour of all districts of Masvingo was good but it was misguided since he is no longer a government employee and was unable to answer critical questions raised by traditional leaders. He said his visit was aimed at mobilising traditional leaders so that they campaign for the ruling party in 2023.

“We thought his visit was going to solve many issues like approved chieftainships which are taking long before being legally installed. This is an issue which needs urgent attention. Promising village heads and headmen extra money and bicycles so that they mobilise people to join Zanu-PF cells and structures is something some of us are not comfortable with. This will affect our leadership in communities,” said the chief who requested not to be named.

A village head from Masvingo West who attended Mohadi’s meeting at Nemamwa said village heads are being paid peanuts by government and it is surprising that they are now being promised foreign currency just because they want to use them.

CCC spokesperson for Masvingo province Derick Charamba told The NewsHawks that what Mohadi was doing in Masvingo is nonsensical. Charamba said the ruling party cannot declare that village heads are now cell chairpersons of Zanu-PF yet they should be leaders of everyone, including those with divergent views.

“All what he was doing in Masvingo is nonsense, considering that he cannot come and make a declaration that all village heads are now chairpersons of Zanu-PF cells in their villages. A traditional leader is for all people, including those in opposition hence they should not be involved in politics,” said Charamba.

Addressing a belated World Press Freedom Day commemoration organised by the Media Institute for Southern Africa (Misa) Masvingo chapter at Sikato Primary School on Saturday, Chief Nemamwa said traditional leaders should not be involved in politics as outlined in the constitution of Zimbabwe. He said chiefs are leaders of people with different opinions and they should accept that without favouring some.

A snap survey by The NewsHawks in different parts of the province found that, since the week Mohadi met traditional leaders, many people are now being forced to attend ruling party meetings in their areas, with village heads declaring that they were given powers to arraign those who miss ruling party meetings to their courts for hearing.

In Masvingo North and Zaka district, village heads were seen leading proceedings during Zanu-PF “cell day” a weekend ago. The traditional leaders were telling villagers that they will receive farming inputs in line with meeting attendance registers.

“Infidelity Behind Most Divorce Cases”

ED To Announce Sweeping Policy Measures To Address Price Madness

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday said he would today announce sweeping policy measures to deal with skyrocketing prices of basics and services, including inflation.

“My government will tomorrow (today) announce concrete measures to tame inflation, and unwarranted increases towards securing the incomes and savings of our people, especially women,” Mnangagwa said while officially opening Zanu-PF’s 7th national women congress in the capital.

Zimbabweans have been hard hit by falling disposable incomes with basic goods and services priced beyond the reach of many.

Some businesses are offering discounts for United States dollar payments, while using parallel market rates when pegging prices in local currency.

Public and private sector workers are now demanding United States dollar wages to make ends meet.

Teachers and health professionals yesterday entered day five of their strike for US dollar salaries.

“We remain committed to ensure sustainable delivery of social services such as water and quality education,” Mnangagwa said.

“Under the responsive policies of the second republic, women are being facilitated to realise their individual and collective aspirations riding on the immense capabilities, skills and competencies. This has seen the appointment of more women in positions of responsibility and decision making in the public sector.”

Addressing the same gathering, Zanu-PF national secretary for women’s affairs Mable Chinomona urged Mnangagwa to introduce stiffer penalties against party bigwigs involved in corruption.

“My President, we want you to introduce stiffer penalties against perpetrators of corruption by even cutting one finger, if not two,” Chinomona said. The women’s conference continues today.-Newsday

“In his own words, @edmnangagwa is Zambian, a fact which even his spokesperson

New Twist To Strauss Truck Driver Disappearance. Taurai Kundishaya Threatens Peter Mutasa

By A Correspondent- The Workers Committee Secretary at Strauss Logistics, Robert Muwawa, who reportedly went missing on Wednesday, was found in a bush and picked up by good Samaritans.

The Chairperson of Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, Peter Mutasa, who is also the General Secretary for the Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers Union (ZIBAWU), said Muwawa “is not too well”.

Posting on Twitter, before Muwawa was reportedly found, Mutasa said Muwawa was last seen at Strauss Logistics around lunch hour on Wednesday. Wrote Mutasa:

Robert Muwawa is still missing since Wednesday lunch hour. He was leading a strike at Strauss Logistics as Workers Committee Secretary

He was last seen at the company at lunch hour. He had received calls from someone called Assistant Inspector Mutema.

He had reported that Ass Inspector Mutema of Southerton [police] had somehow threatened him about the strike and whether he was at work

His union [ZHTDU] said his family went to the company but were told by management that the company had reported to the police

The Zimbabwe Haulage Truck Drivers Union (ZHTDU) is not happy because management indicated to the family that the matter is being handled by an Assistant Inspector Mutema again.

The family reported on its own a missing person report. Spread the message and help find this person.

It must never be accepted that workers’ representatives are disappeared for leading a strike

Zimbabwe should never be turned into a Mafia State, where those in businesses and in politics can use power to silence, abduct, imprison, threaten or torture trade unionists.

The Zimbabwe Haulage Truck Drivers Union condemned Muwawa’s alleged victimisation, saying workplaces are becoming hazardous places. The union said:

Drivers across Zimbabwe have vowed to in solidarity with their missing friend Robert Muwawa.

This is a clear sign that our workplaces are now a potential hazard, yet suffering victimisation We might all end up disappearing one after the other.

The disappearance of Robert Muwawa has sent a loud and clear message…  We are no longer safe. We call for protection. Help find our missing comrade.

Getting Robert will never get trucks to move. Drivers only needed assurance that victimisation will fall simple.
