Anger Over Abuse Of Covid-19 Funds

By A Correspondent- Health workers at Gokwe North District Hospital have expressed anger over authorities’ failure to disburse COVID-19 funds, three weeks after the government deposited the funds into the district hospital’s account.

The funds are meant for those who took part in the COVID-19 vaccination blitz which was done in two parts.

The first group took part in the programme in March and received their allowances for seven days after a month.

The second blitz took part in early May but they are yet to receive their allowances.

With the runaway inflation, the healthcare workers are worried that their money has been rendered valueless.

The authorities are putting blame on poor network connectivity in the district for their failure to disburse the funds.

However, the beneficiaries are blaming the authorities for not having a plan B, for example, buying data or travelling to areas with good internet connectivity like Gokwe Town centre.

Meanwhile, other district hospitals like Zvishavane paid their workers about three weeks ago.

They were given US$120 per day which will be converted using the interbank rate of the day.

Gokwe North District is notorious for late payments of its staff after they take part in various programmes.

Last year, COVID-19 funds were only disbursed after complaints from the staff.

The health workers have also complained over the government’s penchant to pay workers in instalments.- Pindula News

Battle Lines Drawn In Mazoe West

By A Correspondent- On the 26th of April 2018 Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana said, “A titanic battle in Mazowe West on Sunday. Tafadzwa Musarara vs Kazembe Kazembe. But Anastencia Mazikana, Chrispen Mataire, Richard Chiorongwe, Constance Sabau and Christopher Makwezva are not bridesmaids. Zanu PF primaries are more intriguing than most general elections.”

Mangwana was commenting on the primary elections battle for the right to represent ZANU PF in Mazowe West.

Tafadzwa MUSARARA braved the weather and challenged Kazembe Raymond Kazembe for the Mazowe West constituency.

Musarara already had an upper hand as there is an entire village that bears his surname ,schools and his heritage and lineage is traceable in the constituency. While Kazembe was deemed as an outsider.

Musarara’s home advantage did not augur well with Kazembe Kazembe who resorted to violence , intimidation and dirty tactics against Musarara.

Kazembe and his henchmen turned to violence against Musarara in the primary elections. The violence saw Musarara’s 30 tonne truck and a Kombi destroyed and campaign material worth thousands of dollars looted. CID Bindura deployed three police officers who visited the scene and opened a docket under case number RRB 333861440.

The involvement of the police did not deter Kazembe and his supporters two Zanu PF activists in Mazowe West were convicted and jailed for looting mealie meal and flour worth $12 000 from businessman Tafadzwa Musarara’s truck in Concession during the party primary elections .

The pair – Jonah Ngwenya (Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial transport secretary and Boyd Fungulani – were part of Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson and parliamentary candidate Kazembe Kazembe’s campaign team.

The violence against Musarara worked and some of his followers were intimidated into participating in the primary elections.

The violence against Musarara worked and some of his followers were intimidated into boycotting the primary elections.

Violence again was used against Musarara in the ZANU PF DCC race in which Musarara ran against John Mudzonga who was Kazembe’s campaign manager.

The defiant Musarara stood his ground and managed to win the DCC elections. Musarara was later asked by the people to run in the provincial chairmanship race.

Despite claims of rigging , intimidation and under handed tactics Musarara managed to secure over 17 000 votes. This was viewed as victory for Musarara as it was his first time running in the provincial race.

It is now apparent that there is a feud between Musarara and Kazembe and the feud seems to be far from over.

Kazembe has now called for a meeting which is meant to strip Musarara of his DCC chairmanship. The meeting is set to charge , prosecute and provide the sentence and execution over Musarara’s political career.

Kazembe is now playing his cards to preserve his position ahead of the primary elections which precede the 2023 harmonized elections.

The feud between Musarara and Kazembe has played into the hands of Chamisa’s CCC movement which is now plotting to reduce the ZANU PF margin in Mashonaland Central.

Mashonaland Central is a ZANU PF stronghold which has provided a clean sweep against the opposition. The Opposition merely has to reduce the ZANU PF margin in the strongholds and increase their wins in their areas to get a glimpse of victory in the 2023 polls.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa needs to intervene and address the issues in Mashonaland Central and the issues in Mazowe West. This political hotbed if left alone will weaken the party In Mashonaland Central and derail the 5 million votes for ED.

Kazembe might have a legitimate claim to the provincial chairmanship as endorsed by the politburo but do people follow him , is he a leader leading the people? His failure to mobilize attendance to rallies and his near fist fights with politburo members who are senior to him indicates that Kazembe Kazembe does have a problem which needs to managed ahead of the elections.

There is need for a special indaba In Mashonaland Central to iron out the issues and ensure that the party emerges stronger , with clarity , unity and peace.

Please Your Excellency and the Presidium May you kindly addressed the issues in Mashonaland Central.

ED Honor Divides Gweru

By A Correspondent- A proposal to grant President Emmerson Mnangagwa freedom of the city status has divided Gweru city councillors, Southern Eye has learnt.

Councillors are arguing over the criteria used to bestow such honour, which they say was not clear.

Southern Eye understands that Council managers proposed to give Mnangagwa the honour during a full council meeting on Wednesday.

The issue was also included in the minutes of the deliberations, although the minutes did not explain the reasons why the President must be given the honour.

“We have item 123 which points to giving President Mnangagwa the freedom of the city of Gweru,” the city mayor Hamutendi Kombayi, who was chairing the meeting, said.

Councillor Edison Kurebgaseka (ward 9) said there was nothing wrong in granting Mnangagwa the status, adding that the honour would come with some benefits.

“We should set politics aside, and l think there is nothing amiss in granting President Mnangagwa the honour. After all, Mnangagwa is from the Midlands province and we could, as a council benefit in some service delivery issues affecting us including roads and water challenges,” Kurebgaseka said.

But councillor Josiah Makombe disagreed, saying the issue needed to be deliberated on in council chambers to ensure there is clarity on why Mnangagwa should be bestowed that honour.

“We can’t just rush to adopt the proposal. There is need for a special meeting to discuss this issue. It’s just a recommendation coming from management and it’s not clear,” he said.

Makombe’s sentiments were seconded by councillors Trust Chinene (ward 15) and Tawanda Magidi (ward 16).

The proposal attracted heated debate among councillors, who then failed to agree on the way forward.

In 2020 when Victoria Falls was declared a city, Mnangagwa was awarded freedom of the city with the local authority saying it was recognising his contribution to the resort town’s transformation.

“Covid-19 Is Here For Decades To Come”

By Wilbert Mukori- In July 2021 the Zanu PF regime promised to administer 100 000 covid 19 vaccine jabs per day and in the remaining 180 days of that year would have delivered 18 million jabs, two jabs each to the target 10 million herd immunity. However, with the reduced 4 000 jabs per day or 1.6 million per year it is going to take much longer to hit the 10 million target.

To date 6.28 million, 4.62 million and 0.86 million have received the first, second and third vaccine jabs in Zimbabwe respectively according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health. And so, it will take six years to June 2028 to finally get 10 million vaccinated with two jabs.

As we know the times have moved on, three jabs are now required instead of two. It will take a further six years from 2028 to 2035 to have the three jabs on the 10 million target herd immunity at the present rate of 4 000 jabs per day!

Many countries in the developed countries have 80% plus of their target herd immunised with three jabs, giving them the confidence to lift most of the covid 19 restrictions that had caused so much human suffering and economic disruption.

There signs are, mankind will have to live with corona virus for decades to come, at least, or be it a significant segment of the population will need annual booster vaccination jabs as is the case with the common flu, for example.

Until Zimbabwe reach the target 10 million with three jabs, the country will continue to live with covid 19 hanging over our heads like “the sword of Damocles”. There will be new corona virus outbreaks and, with each outbreak, many of the covid 19 restrictions will return, many of the people without the protection of the three jabs will catch the virus become seriously ill and many will die.

Officially, 5 549 Zimbabweans have died of corona virus since March 2020 when Zororo Makamba died, the first covid 19 death in Zimbabwe. Many people do not believe the official figure; for one thing the country’s covid 19 testing regime has been wilfully inadequate.

The true figure is 1 million cases and 25 000 deaths, or ¼ those of South Africa which are 3.99 million cases and 101 745 deaths respectively. Zimbabwe’s population of roughly ¼ that of S A and the two countries’ covid 19 cases have mirrored that of the other given the heavy human traffic between the two countries throughout the covid 19 years.  S A’s covid 19 test regime has been more diligent are therefore the figures are more reliable.

Indeed, one would expect Zimbabwe’s covid 19 figures to be much worse than just being ¼ those of our southern neighbour given our health care service is in sorry state and by failing to test, trace and track Zimbabwe would have helped the virus spread far and wide, making our situation even worse!

Zimbabwe is losing a staggering US$ 1.2 billion per year to gold smugglers alone, enough to have funded and delivered the 100 000 covid 19 vaccines jabs per day meeting the nation’s herd immunity target by December 2021. To have this covid 19 threat, “the sword of Damocles”, hangover our heads for another six years before we can reach the two relative safety of two jabs is unbearable particularly when the delay is because of the insatiable greed of few!

The grim ripper, corona virus, has six more years to add to Zimbabwe’s estimated 25 000 covid 19 death toll thanks to Zanu PF’s failure to deliver own its promise to stamp out corruption and deliver 100 000 vaccine jabs per day. As it is the regime is delivering a mere 4 000 jabs per day or 4% of what promised because it has all but failed to stamp out corruption!

“Avenge Your Death My Son”: Livingstone’s Mother

By A Correspondent- Selina Tadya, the mother of missing St Mathias Tsonzo High School learner, Livingstone Sunhwa, believes her son was murdered and wants his spirit to torment the killers.

Livingstone went missing from the Anglican Church-run school on 6 December after he was briefly arrested by the police for stealing snacks from the school’s tuckshops.

Human remains that are suspected to be Livingstone’s were discovered last Friday in a thicket that is a stone’s throw from the school.

Speaking to The Manica Post, Tadya revealed that the body parts were strewn all over the place, with some of them missing. She said:

It is like a part of my soul has been removed. It is painful for a parent to lose a child. Only affected parents can relate to what I am going through.

The fact that he disappeared at the hands of those who were supposed to take care of him makes the pain worse.

Whoever is responsible was insensitive and should have considered the life of my child.

I feel a lot of pain and emotional trauma far beyond imagination. His spirit should fight back and torment his killers.

Fight your killers my son. Never give them rest. Fight until they own up and disclose the whole truth about what happened to you.

No amount of appeasement can bring back my son. Money does not buy life. I just want them to suffer the same ordeal my son went through.

What can they do to replace Livingstone? Where will I find him?

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the investigations into Livingstone’s disappearance and is in the process of conducting DNA tests to establish whether the human remains are Livingstone’s.

Tadya said she single-handedly laboured to raise Livingstone and his sister, Pride, following the death of their father in 2010. She said:

When you lose a husband, you become a widow; when you lose your parents, you become an orphan; but when you lose your child, there is not even a term for it.

That is how awful it is. I am barely existing. I have spent every waking moment trying not to think about what happened to my son.

I never imagined picking his scattered bones, I had hoped to find him alive. I lost my breath when I saw his shoes, belt and those remains. Our family is failing to accept this.

Since the discovery of the human remains, nobody from the school or the church has reached out to us. Nobody has come just to empathise with us or just to say they are sorry – just a sorry.

On Sunday, we went to the school with the intention of proceeding to the scene where the remains were discovered. The headmaster was present but he refused to come out and meet us.

Till this day (Tuesday), I have not received any message from either the school or the church despite the fact that my son disappeared from their institution.

Are they saying Livingstone never existed at St Mathias Tsonzo?

D-Day For VP Chiwenga’s Ex Wife Marry

By A Correspondent- Vice President Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa, will know her fate, in a case she is accused of assaulting a former child minder, on July 27 after the state closed its case Thursday.

Mubaiwa is accused of assaulting Delight Munyoro at an elite school in Harare, where she had gone to fetch her children with the former army general.

The former model intended to have some time with her children following her fallout with the VP.

Through her lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, Mubaiwa told the court that “evidence produced by the state during the trial was not enough for a reasonable court to reach a decision to convict an individual.”

She also argued that the second medical report produced by witness, Maxilo, and oral-facial surgeon, Dr Wayne Manana, was not authentic since the maid was allegedly said to have visited the doctor once.

Mtetwa is expected to file a written application on July 11.

The State is expected to give its response on July 22.

Magistrate Learnmore Mapiye will determine her fate on July 27 in the morning.

Prosecutors allege Mubaiwa slapped Munyoro, whom she accused of influencing her children to dislike her and their siblings from her former marriages.

The assault charges against Mubaiwa arose in January 2020.

According to the police, there was an altercation between Mubaiwa and the maid over the custody of the children.

Munyoro is reported to have gone to the school to pick up the children but clashed with Marry, who also wanted to have access to them.

It is alleged that Mubaiwa called Munyoro a witch and accused her of influencing her children to dislike their own mother.-NewZimbabwe

“It’s Shocking”: Biti

By A Correspondent= The assault case of Tendai Biti continued yesterday with him shifting his attacks from The Herald to deputy prosecutor, Mr Michael Reza, saying he was not objective and likes to prosecute opposition politicians.

Biti is facing allegations of assaulting an investor, Ms Tatiana Aleshina, at the Harare Magistrates Court.  In his reasons why he wants the matter referred to the Apex Court, he said he will never receive a free and fair trial if Mr Reza prosecutes the case.

“I am shocked why a senior prosecutor like Mr Reza would want to prosecute an assault matter,” he said.

Biti said the State should not show that it is captured by any individual including the complainant.

“The prosecutor is behaving as if he is a hired gun or captured, which is not allowed by the constitution,” he said.

Biti first blamed Zanu-PF Politburo member Patrick Chinamasa, whom he accused of causing his arrest, through a media conference.

After blaming Chinamasa, he then turned his guns on The Herald, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana, for giving the nation a wrong narrative of his assault case.

New Twist To Perrance Shiri Estate Saga

By A Correspondent- The late national hero and Lands and Agriculture minister Perrance Shiri’s daughter, Rufaro Stephanie is seeking to bar former Attorney-General Sobusa Gula-Ndebele from administering her father’s estate, accusing him of illegally imposing himself as the executor.

Rufaro wants the State to reopen the estate, following irregularities in the execution process, which include the appointment of Gula-Ndebele as the executor.

Gula-Ndebele’s administration of the estate has divided the late national hero’s children, with some being accused of working in cahoots with him to fraudulently

benefit from the estate when they were not his biological children.

The divisions have prompted the family to call for a roundtable meeting with parties involved to discuss Shiri’s estate.

In response to calls for a roundtable meeting, through her lawyers Tapera Muzana and Partners, Rufaro wrote a letter dated May 20, 2022 demanding to know the agenda of the meeting before she agrees to attend.

“We refer to the above matter and your letter dated May 5, 2022, which was served upon our law firm on May 9, 2022. We forwarded your letter to our client and she advised us to respond as follows: She is kindly asking you to take the issue that we have mutual interest, thus will enable us to prepare all the necessary paperwork before the round table meeting.”

Some of Shiri’s family members doubt the authenticity of the documents that were being used by the Master of the High Court, Eldard Mutasa, to handle Shiri’s empire.

They claim some documents had forged government letterheads. The matter was reported to the police last year under ER5/2021 for investigation.

Contacted for comment, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was yet to check the progress on the matter.

“I need to check on that,” Nyathi said.

“Right now, I am in Victoria Fall attending an event.”

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) last year also opened another investigation under case reference number HCR 116-09-21 into the alleged illegal sale of the late Shiri’s assets by his daughters Cynthia and Tatenda, reportedly in connivance with Tawanda Zulu and Stephan Tanaka Musvamhiri, who are listed as children to the late national hero in the overall estate distribution.

Zacc spokesperson John Makamure yesterday confirmed that the investigations were still on.

“We confirm that the commission is investigating allegations of sale of assets belonging to the late minister. Investigations are in progress,” Makamure said.

Rufaro is challenging the inclusion of Zulu and Musvamhiri on the estate, claiming that their paternity was in dispute.

Rufaro says Gula-Ndebele was his father’s lawyer at the time of his death, raising questions why he was then appointed executor dative and testamentary; that is, an executor who is appointed by the relevant court in cases where a deceased individual did not leave a valid will and, therefore, died intestate.

“It’s interesting to note that he insists and claims he was my father’s lawyer when everything else suggests he was not and I know he wasn’t,” Rufaro told NewsDay.

“In 20-2014, my late father took Brian Tarisai Kambasha and Hemingworth Cartwright (Pvt) Ltd to court, file record of the case being HH 36-17 CA 270/15, in which my father was represented by the National Prosecuting Authority (State) or had State attorneys representing him. A question to ask (is) where was Mr Sobusa Gula-Ndebele? Certainly, the case was not a State issue, but rather personal,” she said.

“The case was to do with a contract that was signed for a solar plant installation at Hopedale Farm in Bindura, that was to start off with a 100kVA installation that would later on see the same company installing a 600kVA plant on completion of the project. The second question is: When the contract was signed, where was he and why did my father opt to do the paperwork without a lawyer when he had a lawyer?”

She also accused Tatenda and Cynthia of allegedly conniving with Gula-Ndebele to fraudulently administer the late Shiri’s estate.

Gula-Ndebele, Rufaro said, was reportedly making efforts to frustrate the reopening of the estate, including intimidating her lawyers.

“The Master of the High Court should explain how Mr Gula-Ndebele became executor,” Rufaro averred.

“The two Shiri ladies, Tatenda and Cynthia, are now working in cahoots with Mr Gula-Ndebele. Why would they invite Gula-Ndebele, who was fired from the Attorney-General’s Office under unclear circumstances? Why would they confirm him as executor when they had everything to lose if they entrust their father’s estate to an individual like (that)?”

Repeated efforts to get a comment from Gula-Ndebele were in vain because he was not answering calls.

Contacted for comment, Zulu curtly said he was not aware of the row over the estate.

“I am not aware of anything,” Zulu said and hung up his phone.

Cynthia also said she had no comment on the matter.

“It’s my first time to hear about this,” Cynthia said. “I have nothing to say.”

But Tanaka insisted that she was Shiri’s biological daughter and she trusted Gula-Ndebele as the legally appointed executor.

“Actually, I am wondering why it has taken so long for this estate to be administered and close the case,” Tanaka said.

“I am the youngest child of the late minister and his every other child came to the Shiri family the same way I did. I am ready to redo the DNA test to prove that I am his child. However, it is not fair for another child to doubt my paternity when I have not questioned theirs.

“We are all equal as his children. I even think that every other child of our father should do DNA tests so that the truth comes out. The matter has been going on for long and there is need for it to be closed. Personally, I am ready to leave the Shiri family if I am not his daughter, but I am very confident of my paternity.”

Mutasa allegedly considered Shiri’s 1995 will in listing the beneficiaries of his estate, where he bequeathed 50% of his bank savings, insurance policies to his now late son Titus and the other half of savings to his children Tatenda and Cynthia Shiri, and all his other children who were yet to be born.

A death notice filed at the Master’s Offices indicated that three more children: Zulu, Rufaro and Tanaka were also listed as beneficiaries of Shiri’s estate.

Rufaro, however, claimed that the late minister had disregarded the will after registering a family trust with her as executor.

She argued that Zulu and Tanaka, whom she alleged only showed up after her father’s death, should not be included in the administration of the estate until the paternity disputes have been resolved.

“Both Tanaka and Tawanda are accomplices,” Rufaro said. “They have no scientific proof to prove their relationship with the late Perrance Shiri and I believe they have been planted in the estate as agents to loot for probably Tatenda and Cynthia’s benefit in the distribution exercise, so all of them should be arrested. The leadership of this country has made it clear that no one is above the law and there is no room for corruption.”

Mutare Woman Marries Two Men, Hauled To Court

By A Correspondent- A polyandrous woman from Dora, Mutare was recently summoned to appear before Acting Chief Zimunya’s court.

Polyandry is when a woman is married to two or more men at the same time and this is not only illegal but also taboo in Zimbabwe.

Mollen Gamira allegedly stayed with her husband and her lover for months before the husband became aware of it and chased her from their matrimonial home.

Gamira is reportedly now staying with her lover and expecting his child.

Acting Chief Zimunya confirmed the love triangle involving Gamira, her husband, Washington Bvirindi of Bvirindi Village and her lover, Tafadzwa Manomano of Chitiyo Village.

The matter has since been heard before Acting Chief Zimunya’s court, but Gamira refuse to attend the court session. She said:

I did not see why l was supposed to attend the court session in the absence of my relatives.

They should have summoned some of my relatives too, otherwise, I will never set foot at that court.

The court heard that Gamira and Bvirindi have three daughters, while Gamira is reportedly carrying Manomano’s child.

It was revealed that Gamira would take turns staying with either of the two men without their knowledge.

The affair with Manomano started in February, a few months after Gamira and Bvirindi had relocated from South Africa.

Gamira then moved in with Manomano in April after finding out that she was pregnant.

She had made Manomano believe that she was a single mother of one. Said Acting Chief Zimunya:

The two men work for the same company, so when the other one was off duty, Gamira would stay with him.

This is unheard of and it is taboo for a woman to be married to two men at the same time.

Both men did not know that they were being tricked. Bvirindi thought that his wife would be on duty as she used to work at a nightclub at Chikosi Business Centre in Rowa.

When visiting her husband in Bvirindi, she would lie to Manomano that she was going to see her child.

Gamira’s shenanigans were exposed when Bvirindi followed his wife to her “workplace”, only to discover that she was, in fact, cohabiting with Manomano.

After that, Bvirindi visited Manomano’s homestead on countless occasions with the intention of bringing his wife back home, but with no joy.

The three were later summoned to Acting Chief Zimunya’s court and Bvirindi surrendered all of Gamira’s property, stating that it was over between them.

Gamira confirmed to The Manica Post that she treated both men as husbands for a period of time. She said:

It is true that I left home early this year to work at a night club and that is where I met Manomano. I was still married to Bvirindi.

At first, I tricked both men and equally treated them as my husbands but that has changed now and l am now staying with Manomano.

When I fell in love with Manomano, I lied to him that I only had one child and that I was single.

We decided that I should leave my job at the nightclub and cohabit. I obliged and we started staying together as husband and wife.

… I left Bvirindi because he is violent. During our 10 years of marriage, he was very abusive toward me.

This is why I did not tell him that I was already someone else’s wife. I feared that he would assault or even kill me.

Bvirindi’s brother, Elias Bvirindi, confirmed the development, saying his wife is the one taking care of Gamira’s three children.

Manomano confirmed to The Manica Post that he was staying with Gamira, adding that they are expecting their first child.

He also said he is in the process of applying for a protection order against Bvirindi as he always makes a scene whenever they meet.

Harare Woman Challenges US$50k Adultery Claim

By A Correspondent- A Harare woman who is being sued for US$50,000 over alleged adultery is seeking to dismiss the claim, arguing it is no longer a part of the laws of Zimbabwe.

Ratidzo Nyamuchengwa, who is being sued by her former friend, Marvelous Marufu, has since been granted the relief to approach the upper court by High Court judge, Justice Emilia Muchawa.

In seeking referral of her case to the Constitutional court, Nyamuchengwa raised a special plea in which she argued that the claim for adultery is no longer a part of the laws of Zimbabwe as it is inconsistent with Chapter 4 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The Constitutional Court is expected to hand down a landmark ruling after hearing her arguments.

Nyamuchengwa wants the court to show whether the common law of adultery is consistent with subs (1) Section 56 of the Constitution in so far as it allows her to be sued whilst simultaneously precluding the complainant from suing her former husband for the same acts.

She also said the claim is unconstitutional as it exposes her to the prospect of being questioned on and testifying on intimate and personal details of her private, sexual relations.

In addition, she complained that it calls for scrutiny of and publicity of her alleged sexual liaisons or other relations with Marufu’s former husband.

Another query is whether the common law delict of adultery is consistent with subs (1) of Section 58 of the Constitution in so far as it restricts her right to freely associate with any consenting adult person she chooses.

The Constitutional Court is also expected to determine whether the common law delict of adultery serves any rational and justifiable purpose or object protectable under the Constitution.

The judge referred the matter to the Constitutional Court in terms of Section 175 (4) Constitution for a determination of issues she raised.

“To that end, the Constitutional Court shall determine whether the common law delict of adultery sued upon by plaintiff is consistent with subs (1) of Section 56 of the Constitution in so far as it allows the plaintiff to sue the defendant whilst simultaneously precluding her from suing her former husband for the same acts upon which she sues the defendant,” the judge said.

“Whether the common law delict of adultery, as sued upon by the plaintiff, serves any rational and justifiable purpose or object protectable under the Constitution 2013.”

The man at the centre of the controversy is Albert Mhondoro, who allegedly used his wife’s savings to marry Nyamuchengwa.

There was drama on the day he paid lobola for his new wife, after Marufu stormed the proceedings, demanding her money and man back.

Mhondoro has since dumped his family and is now living with Nyamuchengwa.

Mhondoro and Nyamuchengwa work at Nuanee Zimbabwe, which is into cosmetics.

According to court papers, Marufu and Mhondoro wedded on March 19, 2018 and celebrations were held on April 7, 2018.

Nyamuchengwa attended the wedding and bought gifts for the couple.

Marufu said Nyamuchengwa enticed her husband and took him away.

It has emerged that Nyamuchengwa ditched her husband, Terrence Mawire, for Mhondoro.

ED Remembers Dr Joshua Nkomo

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that the nation should keep alive the memory of the late Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo from generation to generation in honour of his contribution to the country’s struggle for independence.

Posting on his social media pages, Mnangagwa said it is “a duty” for current national leaders to commemorate the life of “Father Zimbabwe”. He wrote:

The memory of the late veteran nationalist and one of the country’s founding fathers, Dr Joshua Nkomo, must be kept alive from generation to generation in honour of his contribution to the liberation of Zimbabwe.

It is the duty for us the leaders today to make sure that we observe and commemorate his life.

We remember him for his contribution and sacrifice throughout his life,he lived for this country, he struggled for this country,he went to war for this country.

There are people who initiated African nationalism in this country and Father Zimbabwe is one of those icons of our liberation struggle.

It is therefore critically important that we continuously commemorate and remember him because he is the foundation of our nation.

Meanwhile, the ZIPRA War Veterans Association wants the government to declare 1 July a public holiday to honour Nkomo for his contribution to the liberation and development of the country.

“Father Zimbabwe” or “Umdla Wethu”, as Nkomo was affectionately known, died on 1 July 1999.

Nkomo was the leader of ZAPU and its military wing ZIPRA during the liberation struggle.

He was made Vice President in 1987 after ZANU and ZAPU signed the Unity Accord to unite and end the mid-80s Gukurahundi killings.

DJ Fantan Domestic Violence Charges Dropped

By A Correspondent- The State has withdrawn domestic violence charges against DJ Fantan before plea after his wife, Gamuchirayi Nemukuyu, deposed an affidavit stating that she was no longer pursuing the matter.

DJ Fantan, whose real name is Arnold Kamudyariwa, and his wife were back in court on Thursday where she withdrew the case before Mbare Magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje.

Nemukuyu testified under oath that she understood her action and that it was her decision to withdraw the case.

In her initial complaint, Nemukuyu accused DJ Fantan of breaking teapots, wine glasses, dishes and jugs that had a value of US$250.

The incident allegedly occurred on Monday 2 May 20222 between 6.30 PM and 7.20 PM and was recorded at the police station the following day on Tuesday, 3 May 2022 at 9.02 AM.

Nemukuyu had also told the police that DJ Fantan became violent after she had opened a restaurant business at Stoddart, Mbare.

She alleged that DJ Fantan, who wanted her to become a housewife, not only broke pots and pans but also soaked their bedroom and children’s blankets in a bathtub.

In a social media post, DJ Fantan claimed he would never raise his hand on a woman, adding:

I was raised by a strong woman zvekuti in my heart it hurts to be called a wife beater. God knows the truth.

Magistrate Gakanje accepted Nemukuyu’s withdrawal and dismissed the charges against DJ Fantan.

Death Threats For Comedienne Madam Boss

By A Correspondent- Comedienne Madam Boss, whose real name is Tarisai Cleopatra Chikocho, claims she received death threats from strangers, both on her mobile phone, and on social media.

Madam revealed the matter through a Facebook post which she has since deleted.

Speaking in an interview with H-Metro, the comedienne explained why she took down the post. She said:

It passed and I don’t want to dwell on it because how can I joke about things like that?

I don’t want it to be in public, that is the reason why I took down the post, I wouldn’t want to alert my enemies.

I have no idea what might have led people to threaten me.

Actually, I think they are just strangers who don’t like me.

Madam Boss, however, said she was not sure who was behind the threats or their motives but insisted that she will not lose sleep over the matter. She said:

Haters are always there. As a celebrity, you are surrounded by many people who can turn into haters.

Even anyone, who is not a celebrity, can even testify how sometimes one can be surrounded by negative energy.

So, if a normal person can have haters, it can be worse when it is me.

But, I don’t know who it was.

The threat came through the phone. But that doesn’t matter and won’t change me.

I would like to tell my fans that I love them and I am indebted for the support they give me every day.

The threats came after Madam Boss and other celebrities took part in the search for missing St Mathias Tsonzo High School student, Livingstone Sunhwa.

Human remains thought to be those of Livingstone were found in a thicket about a kilometre from the school on the day Madam Boss and other celebrities were in Mutare searching for the teenager.

It is not clear whether the death threats were linked to Madam Boss’ public demand for answers in Livingstone’s disappearance or not.

Varun Beverages Donates Push Carts To Female Miners

By A Correspondent- Varun Beverages on Thursday donated 30 Pepsi push carts to female miners across the country through the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF).

Varun Beverages’ Pepsico franchise in Zimbabwe produces a range of products that include Pepsi, Mirinda, Mountain Dew, 7Up and Aquaclear.

The company is targeting donating 2 000 push carts to various vendors in the country’s rural and mining towns.

Speaking at the launch of the programme in Harare on Thursday, the guest of honour, Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando said:

We are here today to witness an empowerment initiative for the women in mines, what is important is that ZMF is not only folding hands but they are digging, taking a loop at what is happening and see how they can make things better for the women in the mining industry, so this occasion is quite momentous for the women in mines.

I want to thank Varun Beverages for this wonderful initiative and I hope that this relationship that has been created can last a lifetime.

ZMF president, Henrietta Rushwaya, said the relationship with Varun Beverages was just the beginning of future women projects that will be pursued.

Varun Beverages chief executive, Vijay Bahl, said the initiative will go a long way in reducing joblessness in rural areas. He said:

With the extension of the project, expansion and investments that we have done, we saw that it was very important for us to come up with a model which we said can reach rural Zimbabwe.

Some of the vendors try to sell their drinks and food products from a street corner so we thought that it was better to give them beautiful, good-looking push carts and we got these pushcarts, which we started to roll out in Harare and key cities in Zimbabwe since.

We saw that we can help fight poverty, and unemployment in rural areas, therefore we thought that we needed to go to miners and those in rural areas.

Robbers Clad In ZRP Uniform Rob Rusape Woman

By A Correspondent- Five suspected armed robbers pounced on a Rusape woman and robbed her of cash and other valuables while clad in Zimbabwe Republic Police uniforms.

Two members of the gang were arrested and have since appeared before a magistrate.

Shingirai Muchedzi (36) and Charles Nindi (35), all of Alpha Plot in Rusape, appeared before magistrate Ms Annie Ndiraya early this week and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

They were remanded in custody to 7 July 2022.

Prosecuting, Justice Masanganise said Muchedzi and Nindi, in the company of three other suspects who are still at large, broke into Melody Maphosa’s Vengere home during the night and robbed her at gunpoint. Said Masanganise:

On June 16, the accused persons who were in the company of three other persons who are still at large hatched a plan to rob the complainant.

On the same day, the accused persons who were putting on police uniforms approached the complainant who was in her house and produced unknown firearms and demanded cash and other valuables.

The accused persons ransacked the complainant’s bedroom and stole US$34, two cellphones, three pairs of shoes and a satchel and went away.

Muchedzi and Nindi were found in possession of police uniforms in their bedrooms when their houses were searched by the police after their arrests.

They were also positively identified by the complainant.

ZIPRA Demands Joshua Nkomo Holiday

By-The ZIPRA War Veterans Association wants the government to declare 1 July a public holiday to honour the late former Vice-President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo for his contribution to the liberation and development of the country.

“Father Zimbabwe” or “Umdla Wethu”, as Nkomo was affectionately known, died on 1 July 1999.

ZIPRA war veterans believe Nkomo should be remembered for his sacrifices for the country’s liberation from colonialists.

Speaking to Southern Eye on Thursday, ZIPRA War Veterans Association secretary-general Petros Sibanda said:

We realise that his works were great such that July 1 must be declared a Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Day or Father Zimbabwe Day.

We also urge all combatants and political parties to attend the event.

Sibanda said they have planned events for this Friday in commemoration of the late Vice president. He said:

We have realised in the 23 years after his passing on nothing is being done by the authorities to remember Nkomo.

Nkomo was our ZIPRA commander in chief and as veterans, we feel that we need to begin this programme to commemorate his death and educate our children and generations to come about the role he played for us to be independent, as well as the role he played towards the independence of other African countries.

We have planned that on July 2 (tomorrow) we will meet at Masotsha avenue and march through Joshua Nkomo street to his statue where revolutionary speeches will be made.

There is only one Nkomo statue in Bulawayo, but his statues must be installed in all towns because Nkomo was a national leader.

In Mashonaland, they referred to him as Chibwechitedza. In Matabeleland South, they called him Hamatsatsi, and in other areas, he was called Umdala Wethu.

The late South African leader Nelson Mandela and the late Zambian leader Kenneth Kaunda looked up to Nkomo as an elder.

Nkomo was the leader of ZAPU and its military wing ZIPRA during the liberation struggle.

He was made Vice President in 1987 after ZANU and ZAPU signed the Unity Accord to unite and end the mid-80s Gukurahundi killings.

EU Confronts Mnangagwa Over 2000 Chaotic Land Reform

By- The European Union (EU) says President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration should return expropriated land, which was protected under Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreements (BIPPAs).

BIPPAs increase legal certainty for businesses investing abroad, thus affording protection against discrimination and expropriation without compensation.

According to Business Times, out of 153 farms which were protected by BIPPAs treaties, 116 were expropriated by the government during the fast-track land reform programme which began in 2000.

EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Timo Olkkonen, said Zimbabwe should return the land if it is serious about normalising relations with the West and attracting investment to the country. Said Olkkonen:

The country (Zimbabwe) has to honour these agreements to show that the Southern African country is serious about respecting property rights, rule of law and Constitution.

… I hope that the government will come up with a satisfactory conclusion on this because that will be conducive to investment if the issues of compensation and other issues are resolved.

In July last year, the government agreed to pay US$3.5bn in compensation to former commercial white farmers whose land was expropriated.

However, the farmers under BIPPAs were not included in the compensation deal for the white ex-farmers.

A farmer organisation group told Business Times that the government lacks credibility and goodwill to return the farms protected by BIPPAs. It said:

Those A2 farmers have been there for the past 20 years and it is going to be difficult to remove them with some even burying their loved ones there.

Zimbabwe has already lost several lawsuits brought against it at international tribunals. The government has since revoked offer letters to some resettled farmers.

Government Fat Cats Steal COVID-19 Funds

Health workers at Gokwe North District Hospital have expressed anger over authorities’ failure to disburse COVID-19 funds, three weeks after the government deposited the funds into the district hospital’s account.

He Restores My Soul

Sabbath School Summary

By ELDER DR MASIMBA MAVAZA

The Shepherd’s Crucible

Lesson 1

Memory Text:
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3, NKJV).

Introduction

Sophie leaned back against her bedroom door and slid to the floor. Tears were welling up fast, and it was only a moment before she was sobbing. “How could he? How could he!” Sophie had just received news that was breaking her heart. Someone she thought was a friend, someone she respected and trusted, was spreading awful gossip about her in order to ruin her reputation and the work she had been doing. Grabbing her Bible off the bed, she suddenly found herself staring at some very familiar words: “He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me” (Ps. 23:3, 4, NKJV).

“Surely this can’t be!” she blurted out to herself. But the logic seemed inescapable. The Shepherd in the psalm was guiding His sheep in paths of righteousness, but these very paths also seemed to wind their way into the valley of the shadow of death. Could it be possible that even this painful betrayal by a friend, this dark valley, could be used by God to train her in righteousness?

SABBATH: God leads His beloved children by His providence & direct all their affairs for the best. Sophie leaned against her bedroom door, slid to the floor, & wept to stupor. Her trusted friend whom she loved broke her heart by spreading awful gossip about her. She got a Bible & stumbled on Ps. 23:3, 4. Even in the valley of the shadow of death, God still leads His own on the right path. God can turn evil into good!

SUNDAY: Undeniably, every child knows God’s love. When asked to paint an image of God, each child drew a picture with a heart to tell God’s amazing love. The cares of life can paint a negative view of God in us as we age. But God, the Good Shepherd, cares for us (Ps. 23). God is forever good & does not change (Heb. 13:8, James 1:17, Isa. 40:11, Jer. 23:3, 4, Ezek. 34:12, John 10:14-16, 1 Pet. 2:25).

MONDAY: God knows His road, the end of the road, & how to lead us on the road. Our paths might be obscured by hurdles, but those who trust in God are led to the right destination—righteousness. He led Israel from Egypt to Canaan (Ps. 23:3). God’s road is the “right path” because it lead us to God’s home, it leads us to God; the right Person, it makes us right people, & it makes us right witnesses of God.

TUESDAY: The right path that the Shepherd walks on took a surreal detour; “the valley of the shadow of death”; a place we’re not eager to visit (Ps. 23:4). But in this dark tunnel, God guides His own into the light of peace & immortality. The text does not say there’d be no evil, but those who walk with God will fear no evil. Have you any fear even though you walk with the Shepherd? The valley refines us!

WEDNESDAY: Every good man has an enemy. Christ had enemies! The joy of the good man is that God prepares a table before him in the presence of his enemies. When we’re tempted to take a revenge, we should commit everything to God. He is the one who can deal with our enemies & who prepares a banquet for us (Ps. 23:5, Matt. 5:44, Rom. 12:18-21) amid seen & unseen enemies (Eph. 6:12).

THURSDAY: A sure fact is that the sheep that live with the Shepherd enjoys God’s goodness & mercy in all days of life. He’s not left alone in the midst of detours & enemies. God is their guardian angel (Ps. 23:6) & supplies their needs. The unfailing love of God will pursue His sheep forever (Eph. 1:4, 2 Pet. 1:10, & Heb. 11:13-15). There is a certainty in God’s love; this notion sustained Christ on the Cross.

FRIDAY: Victors are victims of sore trials in life who’re disciplined, who trust God, & possess the spirit of endurance. They’re trained in the school of Christ to have the grit to face attacks of the enemy (Satan). If we keep looking up & not down, we’ll soon see Jesus reaching His hand to help when we need Him. We only need to give Him our hands in simple confidence. We shall find in Christ peace & hope!

—Ellen G. White, “Missionaries in the Home,” p. 143, in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4; “The Divine Shepherd,” pp. 476–484, in The Desire of Ages & Messages to Young People, pp. 63, 64.

Keywords

Shepherd- The Good Shepherd is Christ (God).

Sheep- The faithful children of God.

Canaan- The Promised Land.

“The path of righteousness”- It’s also called the “right path.” God leads the way.

The valley of the shadow of death- a detour on “the path of righteousness” that refines us & makes us stronger in Christ. Thus, we do not walk “IN” in the valley but “THROUGH” the valley.

Discussion Questions

? To what extent have you been aware that the “terrible perplexity and trial” that comes into your life may actually be part of your “discipline in the school of Christ”?

? How might our help, comfort, and encouragement to those in the valley be part of the Shepherd’s way of getting people through their crises? What things can you as a church do to be better used by the Lord to help those in need?

? In class, go around and have each person talk about how goodness and mercy “pursued” them. What can you learn from one another’s experiences?

? Think about the last hours of Christ’s life, as He entered into the crucible. From what you can tell, either from the Bible or Ellen G. White (The Desire of Ages is a great source), how was Jesus, in His humanity, able to endure? What can we take from His example for ourselves in whatever crucibles we face, as well?

Headman Punishes Woman For Rejecting Love Proposal

In a case of abuse of power by traditional leaders, a Gokwe woman had to travel 55 kilometres on foot to Chief Nemangwe’s place in her quest for justice after she was allegedly banished from her village after she turned down a local village head love proposal.

Writing for The Guiding Star, Perseverance Javangwe said the woman, identified as Mai Masvibiriri, was told to vacate her place by the headman in the village after she allegedly turned down the traditional leader’s love proposal.

The village head allegedly want to give the plot to his alleged girlfriend identified as Tunye Dhlana.

Mai Masvibiriri told the publication that she was given the place by the headman identified as Sabhuku Mupasiwa five years back when her husband was still alive but sick during that time.

Following her husband’s death last year, Headman Mupasiwa allegedly proposed love to her but she spurned the proposal.

This reportedly did not go down well with the traditional leader, prompting him to notify Masvibiriri that she should vacate the premises and find another place to live. Speaking to The Guding Star, Masvibiriri said:

When my husband fell sick we were given a place to stay. While there, my husband passed on and the headman advised that he be buried where we stay since it was his will.

The headman is now proposing love to me but I turned him dome. So because I refused, he is now saying I should leave my stand and find another place to stay in order to make way for his girlfriend.

Last year, his girlfriend came and marked a place just behind my house and built a foundation there. I then went and reported the issue at the Chief’s kraal.

But, before that, the headman reported the issue to Chief Ngomeni and I felt cheated because he did not do justice to the issue, so I went to Chief Nemangwe to report the case.

Chief Nemangwe advised the headman to find another place for his girlfriend, but when we returned the headman went against that.

I then called Chief Nemangwe who then sent his police officer who came and told me that considering I was given the place by the headman no one was supposed to remove me there.

The headman kept coming until one day he said “you are not supposed to be here, I told you to find another place.”

Now they keep reporting me to the police and if I go to the police, the headman does not show up for discussions on the issue.

When I went to Gokwe, the police said I should return home since he did not show up.

I have gone to Gokwe three times and they keep saying no one showed up and I always return home empty-handed.

On top of that, I have a challenge with transport expenses which I cannot afford.

This prompted the woman to travel to Chief Nemangwe’s court on foot through thickets, a distance of 55km.

However, Headman Mupasiwa refuted the allegations levelled against him saying he was cleared by the Chief in the matter and was advised to leave the two women to deal with the situation on their own.

The Guiding Star reported a source as saying Village Head Mupasiwa is a habitual womaniser and Mai Masvibiriri was being punished for refusing to bed the traditional leader. Said the source:

What l know about Village Head Mupasiwa is that he is adulterous, and also goes after widows in our societies.

Chief Nemangwe could not be reached for a comment on this issue as his mobile phone was unreachable.

Zanu PF In Flames

By A Correspondent| PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairman Kazembe Kazembe is plotting to annihilate his long term nemesis, businessman Tafadzwa Musarara as it emerged this week he was employing dirty tactics ahead of the ruling party’s National Assembly primary elections.

The two are fighting for control of the province and the right to represent Mazowe West constituency at next year’s general elections.

Kazembe controversially won the provincial poll held in December last year amid rigging claims.

Musarara’s camp claims the Kazembe’s team hacked Musarara’s phone on Saturday and used it to churn out a message denigrating the party’s leadership.

Musarara took down the WhatsApp status as soon as he was made aware of it, but not before his rivals had taken screenshots and distributed the message.

They are now plotting to suspend the Grain Millers Association (GMAZ) chairman who is currently mobilising grain to supplement inadequate maize and wheat stocks in the country following a serious drought in the past rainfall season.

This publication understands that Kazembe and his camp is not planning to institute a disciplinary hearing with the view to suspend Musarara, a move which would disqualify him from contesting.

His supporters are however adamant that would never happen.

“What should be understood is that Kazembe is a ICT person, runs an ICT company and is a former ICT minister, so he is very much capable of that,” a source from the province said.

“It is a sham really given how the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has made serious inroads in the province, widely considered a Zanu PF stronghold,” the source said.

Zanu PF has maintained an unassailable electoral dominance in the province and has hitherto managed to post huge victories in general elections despite the emergence of strong opposition at the turn of the millennium.

In some parts of the province, the opposition has failed put up structures and gain enough support to mount a serious challenge.

However, the CCC, sources in the ruling party’s provincial structures said, has managed to penetrate and establish grassroots structures in a development that has left the ruling party there shaken to the core.

The CCC is believed to have despatched its co-vice president Tendai Biti to the province to mobilise for the party.

The sources said the Zanu PF national leadership was gravely concerned with the situation and considering ringing chances to try and save the situation.

Kazembe’s leadership is considered by many in the party to be weak and prone to opposition onslaught.

“Biti has been to the province six times over the past two months and has been able to set up village committees throughout the province. They are hard to break up and very useful in mobilisation. Clearly, the opposition has changed its tactics and we could be in for it come next year’s general elections,” a source said.

“They are targeting the presidential election and they want to diminish our margin from the last election. This is worrisome. What worries us more is that the Kazembe leadership appears too weak to deal with this menace. Previously, this could never happen and so knives are out for the provincial leadership,” another highly placed source said.
“What worsens the situation is the fact that this comes at a time when there are serious divisions in the provincial leadership. Right now Kazembe is seized with an internal struggle against (businessman Tafadzwa) Musarara over control of the party and the fight for Mazowe West constituency while the opposition makes inroads. Right now we hear they hacked his phone and want to suspend him from the party over some messages. These are just unnecessary fights. You cannot fault the opposition for taking that easy opportunity,” the source said.

The good thing is that the national leadership is aware of what’s happening and we could see some changes being made soon. There is a strong possibility that Kazembe could be moved to the politburo where he could become a committee member and we would be allowed to re-elect a new chairman. The same happened with Ziyambi Ziyambi in Mashonaland West. That’s what many are lobbying for here,” the source further said.

Kazembe and Musarara have a long-standing rivalry for control of the party in the province. They are also fighting for the same Mazowe West National Assembly constituency.

Woman Beds Hubby’s Friend

A Harare woman, who is facing a US$50 000 lawsuit for adultery, has been granted relief to approach the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) to challenge the law, which she says is no longer part of Zimbabwean law.
Ratidzo Nyamuchengwa, who is being sued by her former friend Marvelous Marufu for adultery, was yesterday granted the relief by High Court judge, Justice Emilia Muchawa.

Nyamuchengwa argues that adultery is no longer an offence in Zimbabwe because the charge is inconsistent with chapter 4 of the Constitution.

The ConCourt is expected to give a ruling after hearing her arguments.

She wants the court to show whether the common law of adultery is consistent with subsection (1) of section 56 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, insofar as it allows her to be sued, while simultaneously precluding the complainant from suing her former husband for the same acts.

Nyamuchengwa also said the claim was unconstitutional as it exposes her to the prospect of being questioned and made to testify on an intimate and personal matter pertaining to her private sexual relations.

She also complained that the law calls for scrutiny of, and publicity of her alleged sexual liaisons or other relations with Marufu’s former husband.

Another query that she wants to raise is whether the common law restricts her from freely associating with any consenting adult person she chooses.

“To that end the Constitutional Court shall determine whether the common law delict of adultery sued upon by plaintiff is consistent with subsection (1) of section 56 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, 2013 insofar as it allows the plaintiff to sue the defendant whilst simultaneously precluding her from suing her former husband for the same acts upon which she sues the defendant,” Muchawa said.

The man at the centre of the controversy is Albert Mhondoro who allegedly used his wife’s savings to marry Nyamuchengwa.

There was drama on the day he paid lobola for his new wife, after Marufu stormed the proceedings demanding her money and man back.

Mhondoro has since dumped his family and is now living with Nyamuchengwa. According to court papers, Marufu and Mhondoro wed on March 19, 2018 and celebrations were held on April 7, 2018.

Nyamuchengwa also attended the wedding and bought gifts for the couple. –Newsday

Dubai Woman Finds Zim Husband Gone

A woman from Bulawayo who went to Dubai for almost a year is apparently regretting ever leaving her husband behind because when she returned, she allegedly found him having left their matrimonial home and “madly” in love with another woman.
A heartbroken Charity Kondo claimed when she came back from Dubai, she found her husband Godfrey Kondo, a prison officer, allegedly dating another woman.

It seems the legally married Godfrey decided not to wait for the return of his wife from Dubai when he allegedly sought pleasure outside wedlock.

The heartbroken Charity shared her ordeal at the Bulawayo Civil Court where she was seeking a protection order against her estranged husband claiming he was verbally and physically abusing her together with their two children.

“I am legally married to Godfrey Kondo and we have two children together. I went to Dubai in March 2021 and when I got a job there, we agreed that he was going to look after our children who are still going to school.

“During my absence he abandoned our children because of his girlfriend. Our children were left traumatised as he was taking them to his girlfriend’s place where the girlfriend was also harassing them. He was threatening to harm them if they told anyone about his new relationship,” said Charity.

She said when she came back from Dubai on 10 May this year, she found her husband gone.

“When I returned on 10 May 2022, I found him not at home. He is, however, coming back threatening to kill me after I told close family members that he had deserted our matrimonial home. He has also disposed of a commuter omnibus and Nissan March vehicle which were part of our matrimonial property.

“On 31 May 2022, he collected an Isuzu vehicle and took it to his girlfriend’s place. When I confronted him, he started physically abusing me. I now want a protection order so that he stops verbally, physically abusing me together with the children and that he should not dispose of our vehicles,” begged Charity.

In response Godfrey disputed his estranged wife’s allegations that he was verbally and physically abusive towards her and the children

“I have not been abusive to her and the children. Our marriage has been going through a rough patch and that is the reason why we are here today. I have also engaged family members to solve our marital dispute.

“And as for the vehicles in question I didn’t take them and she is the one who is in possession of their registration books. I only took them for service and brought them back. When I moved out of the house, I didn’t take anything except my clothes. She is also the one who has access to the title deeds of our house,” responded Godfrey.

In a bid to save the parties’ marriage which is apparently on the verge of collapse presiding magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu referred the parties for counselling.– B Metro

I Am No Longer Free- Mnangagwa

Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday said he no longer enjoyed public life because he was always surrounded by more than 100 security personnel.

Addressing businesspeople at the official opening of the Highlands Park Shopping Mall in Highlands, Harare, constructed by Telecel Africa, Mnangagwa said: “I have not been in a village walk or to take a walk for some time because I am surrounded by over 100 security details.

“I don’t know even how to use a swipe card. I even sent my nephew to swipe for me and he had to ask me to give him my PIN code,” he said.

The shopping mall has retail shops and medical centres, among other entities.

Security was visibly tight at park, as well as in surrounding areas such as Newlands.

Mnangagwa addressed another crowd in Manyame, after commissioning the Mount Meru Millers Zimbabwe edible oil refinery plant.

The business event turned into a rally as bussed Zanu PF supporters and students from Mashonaland East province were bussed to the venue chanting party slogans.

Residents said Zanu PF councillors had ordered them to attend the event, saying they were targeting a crowd of 20 000 people.

Addressing the crowd, Mnangagwa narrated what he described as achievements by his government in Mashonaland East, urging villagers to ensure they vote for the ruling Zanu PF party in next year’s polls.

“I am honoured to be back here in Mashonaland East to officially commission the Edible Oil Refinery Plant valued at US$20 million. Today’s visit follows the recent commissioning of the Central Registry e-passport office in Murehwa, as well as Radnor Mine in Mukuya, Mudzi district. To date, other notable projects have been completed under the second republic such as Muchekeranwa Dam, Mutoko Royal Fruit and Vegetables Processing Plant, along with road, health and education infrastructure across the various districts of the country,” Mnangagwa said.

“This factory will grow and when it grows it will be employing over 1000 people. Those of you from this area will get jobs and get satisfied. You no longer need to go to Harare for jobs. The company makes cooking oil which we usually get from outside. We want you to grow sunflower, cotton and soya beans. That is what is needed here. When we distribute inputs under Pfumvudza, I will make sure that we have a fund for those crops.”- Masvingo Mirror

How Does Monkeypox Spread?

Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It is a viral zoonotic disease, meaning that it can spread from animals to humans. It can also spread between people

Symptoms of monkeypox typically include a fever, intense headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, swollen lymph nodes and a skin rash or lesions.

The rash usually begins within one to three days of the start of a fever. Lesions can be flat or slightly raised, filled with clear or yellowish fluid, and can then crust, dry up and fall off.

The number of lesions on one person can range from a few to several thousand. The rash tends to be concentrated on the face, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. They can also be found on the mouth, genitals and eyes.

Symptoms typically last between 2 to 4 weeks and go away on their own without treatment. If you think you have symptoms that could be monkeypox, seek advice from your health care provider.

Let them know if you have had close contact with someone who has suspected or confirmed monkeypox.

Monkeypox can spread to people when they come into physical contact with an infected animal. Animal hosts include rodents and primates. The risk of catching monkeypox from animals can be reduced by avoiding unprotected contact with wild animals, especially those that are sick or dead (including their meat and blood). In endemic countries where animals carry monkeypox, any foods containing animal meat or parts should be cooked thoroughly before eating.

People with monkeypox are infectious while they have symptoms (normally for between two and four weeks). You can catch monkeypox through close physical contact with someone who has symptoms. The rash, bodily fluids (such as fluid, pus or blood from skin lesions) and scabs are particularly infectious. Clothing, bedding, towels or objects like eating utensils/dishes that have been contaminated with the virus from contact with an infected person can also infect others.

Ulcers, lesions or sores in the mouth can also be infectious, meaning the virus can spread through saliva. People who closely interact with someone who is infectious, including health workers, household members and sexual partners are therefore at greater risk for infection.

The virus can also spread from someone who is pregnant to the foetus from the placenta, or from an infected parent to child during or after birth through skin-to-skin contact.

It is not clear whether people who do not have symptoms can spread the disease.

Viki expressed gratitude to Nakamba for paying school fees for disadvantaged children as well as committing to improving the infrastructure at the school. She said:

The children that are sponsored are orphans and vulnerable, who are staying with very elderly parents. I am all smiles. I am happy.

If you check, our classroom block has been giving us headaches with goats coming in and out at will. This is good news.

Woman Banished From Village For Rejecting Village Head’s Love Proposal

Masvibiriri

By A Correspondent- In a case of abuse of power by traditional leaders, a Gokwe woman had to travel 55 kilometres on foot to Chief Nemangwe’s place in her quest for justice after she was allegedly banished from her village after she turned down a local village head love proposal.

Writing for The Guiding Star, Perseverance Javangwe said the woman, identified as Mai Masvibiriri, was told to vacate her place by the headman in the village after she allegedly turned down the headman’s love proposal.

I Don’t Even Know How To Use Swipe Card- Mnangagwa

Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday said he no longer enjoyed public life because he was always surrounded by more than 100 security personnel.

Chinhoyi Municipality Outlaws Use Of Farm Bricks

By A Correspondent- June 30 officially marks the date outlawing the use of farm bricks in property construction following their ban by Chinhoyi Municipality last year.

Council had given residents a six-months grace period to complete structures constructed using the type of bricks.

Farm bricks, besides their inferior quality compared to concrete bricks and other kinds, were outlawed as their manufacture is blamed for the massive environmental degradation in Chinhoyi and surrounding areas as unregulated sand extraction continues unabated.

The municipality, which had resolved to ban the use of farm bricks in construction effective January 1, 2022, issued a six months’ moratorium on the decision.

Brick moulders and residents were given an ultimatum to wind up using the type of bricks by today.

Now, confusion surrounds the implementation of the ban as some property developers argue they had already procured the farm bricks, but were yet to finish building.

The local authority is mulling penalties to be slapped on all those found using the banned materials.

Mayor Garikai Dendera told NewZimbabwe.com the ban would immediately kick in, but would be waived for those who engage council and explain circumstances warranting exemption.

“There are some people who had started construction using farm bricks before their ban and might have already bought materials. These have to come forward to council and apply for exemption. These waivers would be done on a case-by-case basis and no further umbrella grace period would be given,” said Dendera.

He said those building new structures using farm bricks after the June 30 deadline without council permission risk having them demolished.

“We took heed of an outcry from residents who felt council had given short notice on the farm bricks ban, hence we resolved to effectively ban their use in June. So, all those who had started construction of buildings using farm bricks must have completed them within this grace period,” the mayor added.

Combined Chinhoyi Residents Association (CCRA) chairman, Tendai Musonza, said those with already approved plans must be allowed to finish building.

“Our members, the residents, are panicking due to the uncertainty surrounding the implementation of the ban. However, the law cannot be applied in retrospect. Those with building plans already approved by council must be left to complete construction using farm bricks because people face different circumstances,” said Musonza.

The municipality stopped the use of farm bricks in line with the ‘Smart City’ concept, which dictates materials used in construction activities must promote sustainable environmental use and exploitation of natural resources.

Manufacturers of farm bricks were leaving huge pits where they extract sand, and these swathes of land, belonging to the local authority, would be very costly to service before allocating stands.

ln coming up with the unpopular decision, council also wanted to stop wanton cutting down of trees which the brick-makers use to fire kilns or ovens.

Council has extended invitations to three reputable brick manufacturing firms, namely; Willdale, Beta and Macdonald’s to set up plants in Chinhoyi.

Byo Residents Live In Fear Of Ritual Murders

By A Correspondent- Panic has gripped Bulawayo residents following a spike in suspected ritual murders in the city.

A number of mutilated bodies have been discovered in the city over the past few months, while some residents have been reportedly kidnapped and their blood drained by unknown culprits still at large.

Over the weekend, a yet to be identified woman was found dead with missing body parts at the 21km peg along the Bulawayo-Plumtree road.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chairperson, Ambrose Sibindi told Southern Eye that there were several reports of such incidents happening in Bulawayo and other parts of Matabeleland.

He appealed to law enforcement agencies to devise ways to curb such cases.

“Inexplicable stories are now common, lawlessness has become the norm. People are now behaving like animals,” Sibindi said.

“I would like to urge residents to shun boarding private cars. If possible the law enforcement teams in plain clothes must be on alert at transport pick up points to effectively deal with these shady activities.”

Bulawayo United Residents Association chairperson, Winos Dube said: “We are disheartened and disappointed as residents to learn that these activities are taking place among our people. Ritualism is becoming a menace and people have to be very vigilant. They shouldn’t board unknown vehicles belonging to people they do not know.”

Dube advised the commuting public to use public transport to avoid such dangers.

Recently, the owner of a shop at Kelvin was kidnapped after boarding a Honda Fit vehicle with unidentified women. They took the victim to a secluded bushy area where she was injected with an unknown substance which made her unconscious.

The suspects, who are still at large, allegedly drained blood from her body for suspected ritual purposes. They then dumped her some 15km from Kensington.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said all the incidents would be investigated.

“I cannot say it’s ritualism; we are conducting an investigation to find out what really transpired so that the truth comes out,” Nyathi said.

CCC Legislator Tears Into Local Authority Over Demolitions

Judith Tobaiwa

By A Correspondent- Kwekwe Central legislator, Judith Tobaiwa, has criticised Kwekwe City Council management for resolving to demolish some illegal tuckshops and gas cages.

In a recent notice, the local authority said all illegal tuckshops, including gas cages, must be demolished. The notice read:

I wish to inform that all illegal tuck-shops and gas cage owners within the City of Kwekwe have to demolish or remove their illegal structures by 29 June 2022.

Failure of which illegal structures will be demolished by council without further notice.

However, Tobaiwa argued that destroying the structures was not the solution. She urged the council to engage citizens and find alternatives. Said Tobaiwa:

I have noted with concern a circular from Kwekwe City threatening to demolish what they term illegal tuck-shops and gas cages.

As a lawmaker and an exemplary citizen, I would like to see sanity in our town, but the move by the management is wrong, considering the situation in our country.

The situation would be better resolved by engaging everyone involved and offering alternatives.

I implore our councillors to represent the citizens and make sure the council does the correct thing in the correct way.

The management cannot continue to act like a mad man with a hammer.

The citizens of Kwekwe deserve better and should not continue to suffer because of the incompetence of the regime.

Talent Madungwe Reveals 2023 Presidential Election Winner

By A Correspondent- Controversial prophet Talent Madungwe has predicted the 2023 presidential election winner.

The 2023 Presidential elections are believed to be another contest between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.

Madungwe is known for claiming to have met and dined with God. He is also a self-proclaimed commander of the heavenly army.

In an interview with Star FM presenter DJ Ollah 7 on Wednesday, Madungwe delivered a prophecy concerning the 2023 elections. Madungwe made an appearance on After Drive where he spoke on a number of issues.

When asked about who will be the winner of the 2023 presidential elections in Zimbabwe, Madungwe implied that Emmerson Mnangagwa will remain President. He added that leaders are not decided by humans but by God.

Talent Madungwe said:

Trial continues for AMH journalists

By A Correspondent| The trial of AMH journalists Blessed Mhlanga and Chengeto Chidi continued before the Magistrates Court in Chitungwiza on 20 June 2022 with the prosecution leading evidence from its second witness Chief Inspector Innocent Tinago of St Mary’s Police Station.

The trial continues on 30 June 2022 with the State expected to lead evidence from its final witness.

The duo is being charged with allegedly contravening Section 25 (a) as read with Section 30 of Statutory Instrument 21/2005 which prohibits taking of photographs within a polling station.

The alternative charge is that of disorderly conduct in a polling station as defined in Section 89 of the Electoral Act.

Mhlanga and Chidi  who are out of custody after they were granted bail on 9 May 2022, have pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Civil Servants Demand Salaries Apology From Guvamatanga

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU), formerly the Civil Service Apex Council, has demanded an apology from the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, George Guvamatanga for his recent remarks on civil servants’ pre-October 2018 salaries.

Addressing the media alongside treasury boss Mthuli Ncube on Monday, Guvamatanga claimed that civil servants never earned US$540 as of pre-October 2018.

ZCPSTU on Wednesday said they were “disturbed” by the comments and demanded that Guvamatanga apologise. The union said:

We are disturbed by the misleading utterances by the Finance Secretary. He referred to the official exchange rate of 2.5, of which, if he was in the country at that material time, he would know there was only one currency, the USD.

It is our contention that the secretary misinformed the nation and would do well to honourably apologise.

ZCPSTU has also rejected the 100% salary increment by the government to be effected on 1 July 2022, calling it “a non-event”.

Civil servants and government representatives met almost a fortnight ago under the National Joint Negotiating Committee (NJNC) to deliberate on civil servants’ salaries and conditions of service.

The meeting ended in a deadlock after civil servants rejected a 100 per cent salary hike and instead demanded the restoration of their pre-October 2018 salaries. ZCPSTU said:

The much-touted ZWL Cost of Living Adjustment to be effected on July 1, 2022, was flatly rejected by the workers at the last NJNC meeting of June 17, 2022, and therefore is a non-event.

At that said NJNC, we advised the government not to bring to the bargaining table a ZWL offer for obvious reasons.

ED Confers Hero Status To Byo War Vets

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred Liberation War Hero status to two war veterans from Bulawayo Province who both died last week.

Both Themba Mlala (65) and Rogers Ngugama Hlabano (91) died on June 23 at Mpilo Central Hospital.

Hlabano will be buried on Thursday, 30 June at Maraposa village, Umguza under Chief Deli, Matabeleland North Province.

Mlala, whose war pseudo name was “Simon Mabhatshi”, will be buried at Ngombane village under Chief Mabhikwa, Lupane over the weekend.

ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu has requested the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Mischeck Sibanda to make the usual arrangements for burial and payment of benefits to both families.

Meanwhile, another war veteran Mafukanyika Dube (64) has died.

Dube died on 26 June at his Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo.

Dube, whose war de Guerre name was “Sihle Khumalo” will also be buried at the weekend at Chibako village under Chief Bhango in Matabeleland South Province.

CCC Activists Reject “Doctored” Footage

By A Correspondent- Citizens’ Coalition for Change activists Joanah Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri, who are accused of faking their abductions, have rejected the submission of a video footage as evidence in their trial.

The State is seeking to submit the footage through a police officer, Richard Muvhuro Mhlanga, a detective chief inspector at the Criminal Investigations Department Cyber laboratory.

The CCTV footage is from three different locations Chicken Inn, Bon Marche and Zuva service stations in Harare.

The duo argued that it could be doctored images when they appeared before Harare magistrate Faith Mushure yesterday.

Through their lawyers, Alec Muchadehama and Jeremiah Bhamu, the duo said Mhlanga was incompetent to submit the said CCTV footage because he was not the one who recorded it.

State prosecutor Michael Reza had earlier on distanced himself from the flash disc carrying the evidence.

Mhlanga said the flash disc that he used was not the one brought before the court, adding that the one with the recordings was at the police CID laboratories.

Mushure allowed the court to adjourn to enable Mhlanga to collect the correct flash disk.

When he returned, Mhlanga downloaded the videos.

“l analysed the video footage because the investigating officer wanted assistance in identifying a motor vehicle that was said to be of interest to him,” Mhlanga said.

“He wanted us to identify the motor vehicle using the number plates, and it was a Mercedes Benz.”

Muchadehama objected to the court playing the video, but Mushure said it must be played for confirmation.

Mhlanga then said he could not confirm whether it was the correct flash disk because other police officers took over the case after he was admitted in hospital for two months.

Muchadehama said the original flash disc was blank, adding that now the accused do not know whether the images were the same.

Mhlanga had claimed that he got the video footage from one Lorraine Munyavi at Chicken Inn, Tinashe Chiwuru from Zuva service station and Ophius Nyika from Bon Marche.

Muchadehama argued that several flash disks circulated, which could have been doctored.

“This particular witness is not competent to produce it,” Muchadehama said.

The matter was postponed to July 5 for the ruling.

Mamombe, Chimbiri and Netsai Murova were allegedly abducted by suspected State security agents, tortured and later dumped in rural Bindura after some days.

Battle For Zanu PF Chairmanship Rages On In Mash Central

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairman Kazembe Kazembe is plotting to annihilate his long term nemesis, businessman Tafadzwa Musarara as it emerged this week he was employing dirty tactics ahead of the ruling party’s National Assembly primary elections.

“We Did Not Bug Zim Parliament”: Chinese Contractor Assures Zim

By A Correspondent- A Chinese contractor has refuted claims that they will install listening devices in Zimbabwe’s new parliament building to extract sensitive conversations from the Zimbabwean Government.

The new Parliament building which is located in Mount Hampden is set to be the new seat of government.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Shanghai construction group project manager Cai Libo dismissed the eavesdropping claims.

He said:

Zimbabwe and China are all-weather friends, as friends you do not do such kinds of things to your friends.

As the contractors, we are working here, we are friends, and we have no interest to do that.

In recent years, China helped Africa in all ways, we build a lot of infrastructures like hospitals, schools, roads and other things to help African countries.

The building was funded by the Chinese government through ChinaAid to the tune of US$100 million.

Critics have questioned China’s motives in building such a costly structure for Zimbabwe for free.

Some have claimed that China was granted permission by the government to freely exploit minerals and other resources from Zimbabwe in return.

China has provided soft loans for the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and Hwange Thermal Power Plant expansion projects, among others.

4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Binga

By A Correspondent-  4,2 MAGNITUDE earthquake hit Binga yesterday morning.

Meteriological Services Department (MSD) head meteorologist James Ngoma confirmed the tremor yesterday telling NewsDay that the epicentre of the earthquake was Binga.

“An earthquake of a 4,2 magnitude was felt in Binga around 5:15am. There were no reports of damages to property, deaths or injuries,” Ngoma said.

“However, more enquires are being made to determine its intensity.”

The last earthquake to be felt in Binga was in 2021 and it had a magnitude of 4,5 with its epicentre about 15km from Lake Kariba.

Ngoma said many such tremors occur around Lake Kariba each year, adding that some of them were not reported because their intensity would be insignificant.

Only those whose magnitude is above 4,5 are made public to alert the population.

“The earthquakes are referred to as load-induced tremors or reservoir-induced tremors in the case of Lake Kariba and are a result of the earth crust’s response to water load or weight given the size of the dam,” he said.

The reservoir-induced tremors have been occurring since 1963 when Lake Kariba started filling up.

Bread Price Set To Go Up?

The price of bread is expected to rise from ZWL$600 to ZWL$730 per loaf after the Government recently reviewed the price of wheat from ZWL$66 000 to ZWL$239 360 per tonne.

NewZimbabwe.com reported baking industry sources as saying the recent 363% increase in the price of wheat means bakers will need to cushion themselves by increasing the price of bread. Said the source:

We are therefore increasing the price of bread flour by 26% from ZWL $397 000 to ZWL $499 500 per metric tonne.

… The interbank rate between the last price review and now has gone up by 16.4% from ZWL $311 to ZWL $362 per $1, which impacts the overall cost of wheat we import for gristing and operating costs.

Small-scale retailers recently slashed the price of bread from US$1.20 to US$0.90 per loaf after the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) committed to allocate funds to bakers through the forex auction.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube recently announced measures to ensure adequate maize meal and bread flour supplies. He said:

There is, nevertheless, an urgent need for Government to intervene to bring stability in the price and supply of maize meal and bread flour in the economy.

Government should release 20 000 metric tonnes per month to millers for the next three months beginning in July 2022 at the import parity price calculated at the prevailing interbank rate.

Millers have indicated that they will in turn import 70,000 MT of wheat over the same period.

The wheat will be sold at an import parity price of USD680 converted into local currency equivalent at the ruling exchange rate.

Chamisa’s Rural Strategy Haunts Zanu PF?

By A Correspondent- The Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC)’s rural mobilisation strategy which, for a while, received backlash from Zanu-PF has reportedly left ruling party officials in Mashonaland province battling to save their political fortunes.

The strategy, fronted by CCC secretary for rural mobilisation Happymore Chidziva has made significant inroads in the ruling party’s traditional citadel.

It is understood that the CCC has already established village committees which will help its mobilisation drive across the province as it seeks to eat into Zanu-PF’s share of the vote at next year’s general election.

Chidziva and co-vice president, Tendai Biti, have reportedly been making frequent trips to the province over the past two months, setting up the structures which have now jolted Zanu-PF into action.

Senior officials in the ruling party’s provincial structures have been taken by surprise at how the opposition party has penetrated the province, once thought to be a no-go-area for the opposition.

They are now taking the provincial chair, Kazembe Kazembe, to task over the issue.

The same situation happened when CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa, then MDC Alliance president, visited the province unhindered in 2020 after he received hostile receptions in other provinces.

Sources said the Zanu-PF national leadership was gravely concerned with the situation and considering ringing chances to try and save the situation.

CCC deputy spokesperson, Ostalos Siziba, said this was an indication Zanu-PF was running scared and had finally realised the opposition party was not confined to urban areas.

“The ruling party is running scared, having realised we are not an urban only political party,” said Siziba.

“The rural folk are now tired of Zanu-PF’s corruption and fake promises. They have bought into our policy of development in rural areas and are now expressing themselves.

“We are, however, aware that such developments are what have resulted in violent scenes towards elections in these areas in the past and are attentive to it.”

Kazembe’s leadership, which came about through violent contestations that resulted in some candidates dropping out,  has been accused of being weak and prone to opposition onslaught.

“Biti has been to the province six times over the past two months and has been able to set up village committees throughout the province,” said a CCC source.

“They are hard to break up and very useful in mobilisation. Clearly, the opposition has changed its tactics and we could be in for it come next year’s general elections. They are targeting the presidential election and they want to diminish our margin from the last election.

“This is worrisome. What worries us more is that the Kazembe leadership appears too weak to deal with this menace. Previously, this could never happen and so knives are out for the provincial leadership,” another highly placed source said.

“What worsens the situation is the fact that this comes at a time when there are serious divisions in the provincial leadership.”

The good thing is that the national leadership is aware of what’s happening and we could see some changes being made soon.

There is a strong possibility that Kazembe could be moved to the politburo, where he could become a committee member and we would be allowed to re-elect a new chairman.

The same happened with Ziyambi Ziyambi in Mashonaland West. That’s what many are lobbying for here,” the source further said.

Kazembe has a long history of consternation with businessman, Tafadzwa Musarara, over the control of the party in the province.

The two are fighting for the same Mazowe West National Assembly constituency.

Nakamba Pays Fees For Pupils At Former School

England-based Zimbabwean midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba, has committed to paying school fees for more school children through his Marvelous Nakama Foundation (MNF).

On Tuesday, 28 June, Nakamba visited his rural home in Hwange District and announced that he will pay school fees for 110 pupils at Dinde Primary School.

The Aston Villa midfielder was a pupil at Dinde Primary before he moved to Bulawayo.

He initially started paying school fees for 90 pupils, but the number has risen to 200, with the beneficiaries set to get school uniforms, winter necessities and school shoes.

Nakamba toured the school in the company of the school headmistress, Sithabile Viki and members of MNF who included his father Anthony. Nakamba said:

I am happy to meet you, my young brothers and sisters. I am happy with the support you have given me.

To me, you are family and I will help you when I can so that you achieve your dreams.

Nakamba pledged to reconstruct the two-classroom blocks and assist in completing a block of toilets that are under construction.

Some of the learners were coming to school barefooted. We appreciate what Marvelous has done.

MNF also pledged to electrify teachers’ quarters and construct another cottage.- NewsDay

Zanu PF Chief Gets Top African Parly Post

By- Zanu PF senator and the party’s election rigging strategist Fortune Charumbira has been elected President of Pan African Parliament.

Chaurmbira won 161 votes against his Malawian contestant Mr Yeremiah Chihana who got 36 votes.

The elections took place this evening at the PAP session in Midrand in South Africa and made Charumbira the first person from the Southern African region to lead the organisation.

After his election, Chief Charumbira said he believed he was the right person to unify a divided house.

Malawian legislator Mr Yeremiah Chihana, who had expressed interest in the position, failed to secure a nomination from the Southern Region.

Posting on Twitter, Mowonzora said he was happy with Charumbira’s victory.

“Congratulations Chief Fortune Charumbira and the Southern African caucus for winning the Presidency of the Pan African Parliament. This is the first time that Southern Africa has attained this position. It is a great day for democracy and unity in Africa”, posted Mwonzora.

Charumbira is the head of traditional leaders in Zimbabwe and uses his position to cow chiefs and headmen to force villagers to vote for Zanu PF during elections.

ZIFA Fails To Honour Adamski Promise

When Zimbabwean football legend Adam Ndlovu died, then Zifa CEO Jonathan Mashingaidze said Adamski’s iconic number 13 Warriors shirt would be retired and not worn again, as a way of honouring him.

The local football fraternity was plunged into mourning on December 16 2012, when a Victoria Falls-bound BMW X5, crashed at the 417km peg near Lupinyu Business Centre around 01:20 am and uprooted three trees.

On board were the Ndlovu brothers; Adam and Peter, as well as a woman identified as Nomclo Tshili.

Adam, who was the Chicken Inn coach at the time, died on his way to the hospital while the aforementioned lady died on the spot according to the Police report.

Soon after Adamski’s burial, Mashingaidze announced to the nation through a statement that the late legend’s number 13 Warriors shirt, which he wore with distinction in a glittering international career spanning 13 years, would be retired and never to be worn again.

“In our tribute to Adam yesterday we indicated that we need to have a Hall of Fame for our soccer greats and in that place will be jersey number 13 which was worn by Adam. Let the nation know that just like what the Cameroonians did to jersey number 17 which was worn by Marc Vivien Foe, there will no longer be a jersey number 13 in the Warriors,” said Mashingaidze.

But since he made those remarks, the number 13 shirt has been worn in every Warriors game.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Mnangagwa Enforces Closure Of Schools

Tinashe Sambiri|Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has accused the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa of disrupting the learning system.

Mr Mnangagwa’s aides have reportedly ordered schools in the Nyatsime area to close as the Zanu PF leader is expected to visit the area.

Below is ARTUZ’s statement:

Hands off our schools ED

As ARTUZ education and Research Department, we are dismayed by reports coming from Nyatsime Chitungwiza of a claim by a Masimba Masimba (ZANU PF Nyatsime councilor) who is ordering schools in the area to close. The closing of schools is said to be done tomorrow (today) 29 June 2022 as Emmerson Munangagwa is visiting members of his party in connection with the violence that occurred since the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali.

As a department, we condemn the closure of schools due to political gatherings. It’s a norm in Zimbabwe that politicians use state institution to benefit their own political agendas. It’s disheartening to note that a certain political party does not care for the welfare of our kids who spent more than 2 years without enough learning time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a known fact that these politicians’ children don’t learn at our public schools which we the poor majority’s children learn.

As a teacher’s union which values that the nation must be educated, believe the government should be promoting our public schools instead of closing them for the selfish agenda. It is in the best interest for government to distance itself from these reckless statements this Masimba Masimba character.

It is our belief that our schools should be safe from internal and external influence. As ARTUZ we are encouraging political parties not to disturb the normal running of schools by using school resources.

CCC Dismisses Mthuli Ncube Fiscal Measures

CCC Official Statement on Fiscal Measures Announced Monday

FRESH ANNOUNCEMENT OF ECONOMIC MEASURES DOES NOT INSPIRE CONFIDENCE

Minister Mthuli Ncube announced measures that are meant to curb hyperinflation and stabilize process as well as address the remuneration crisis in the civil service. The Reserve Bank also issued its Monetary Policy Statement. We take the view that the policies are a re-statement of existing, failed policies which have failed to build confidence. As will be set out in detail below, our economic problems can only be solved if macro-economic fundamentals are addressed and confidence is restored.

Summary of measures announced
The measures announced today include the following:

The multi-currency system is here to stay. The system will however be “entrenched in law for the foreseeable future.”
The existing interbank market system of ‘willing buyer willing seller’ will be “legalized”. The pricing of goods will be in both USD and local currency at the interbank rate.
With respect to commodities, measures have been introduced to “guarantee” the supply of maize and wheat.
A framework for civil servants’ remuneration has been put in place which includes the previously announced 100% salary increase and benefits.
The RBZ has announced a 200% minimum lending rate.
Introduction of gold coins.
Nothing new
On the whole, the Ministerial Statement brings nothing new to the table. The main policy interventions announced by Minister Ncube are a reiteration of policies that already exist and have failed to curb hyperinflation and stabilize prices. Unfortunately, the measures announced today have no capacity to transform the ailing fortunes of the Zimbabwean economy. The purported “entrenchment of the multi-currency system and interbank market in law is not new. The legal framework for these old systems already exists. It will require more (including the building of confidence and addressing the macro-economic fundamentals) than changing the wording of legislation to address hyperinflation and stabilize prices.

No confidence
In his statement, Minister Ncube rightly conceded that the economy suffers from a lack of confidence. Confidence and trust are fragile. Once lost, these are difficult to restore. Unfortunately, previous experiences have made the market paranoid and very little has been done to regain this trust. In this regard, we have consistently stated that the social contract between the state and citizens in Zimbabwe has broken down. There is a lack of confidence or trust in the economy, the State, government and public institutions.

Minister Ncube’s answer to the crisis of confidence is to introduce new laws to “entrench” the multi currency system and interbank market. Unfortunately, this is not enough to calm the market. The current problem has not been the legal framework (which already legalizes the use of USD as legal tender) but the absence of confidence and trust in the economic system, policies and local currency.

In any event, the regime in Harare has demonstrated a propensity to make and unmake laws arbitrarily. Therefore, under Mr Mnangagwa’s regime, once a law is made, there is no guarantee that the said laws will not be changed when the regime has a fresh change of heart. This has been the experience with the continuous flip-flopping on laws that govern the use of foreign currency which have been changed almost once every two years since 2016.

Failure to curb inflation
The lack of confidence finds expression in the thriving parallel market, acute hyperinflation which officially stands at 192% year on year, although economic experts have said it is much higher, in the region of 377%. Regrettably, none of the measures announced by Minister Ncube today address the scourge of hyperinflation or stabilize prices.

It would appear that one of Minister Ncube’s attempts to reduce inflation is the introduction of a disguised system of price controls. By getting involved in the supply of commodities like wheat and maize, the government is setting grounds for manipulating the prices of these commodities.

Government should be warned that this will not work. We have travelled this road before.

Civil servants’ remuneration
Government continues to give civil servants things that they do not want. What the doctors and nurses and indeed the entirety of the civil service demand is an increase of real income to pre-2018 levels. Government continues to dish out benefits, importation of vehicles, houses
transport, school fees among others. Civil servants want live-able salaries in order to be able to afford all those things by themselves. Government continues to miss the point!

200% increase in interest rates
Under normal circumstances, increasing the interest rate would be a positive intervention as the idea is to realize real interest rates that are above the rate of inflation. This should promote savings and discourage demand for money and lead to a deceleration of inflation. However, in our case, the increase of interest rates to levels higher than the announced inflation rate signals to the market that inflation is bound to rise even higher. This is more so given the reported rate of inflation by economic experts like Steve Hanke is estimated to be 377% and the highest in the world. It therefore follows that this measure is not bound to have the desired effect.

Gold coins
Little was said by Minister Ncube about how the gold coin system would function. There is a need to set out a proper framework for the use of gold coins as a store of value and a need to ensure that there are no loopholes that will allow arbitrage and for elites to obtain gold coins at a discounted rate.

Way forward the alternative
A CCC government will restore confidence in the government through ethical leadership, consistent policies, addressing the currency crisis at its root, the creation of an entrepreneurial society where there is wide consultation with key stakeholders before policies are created or changed, the building of a shared and inclusive society and the creation of an economic environment that promotes opportunities for widespread prosperity, especially for the ordinary citizen.

In the immediate to short term, we will dollarize and drop the charade of a local currency. Civil servants will be paid in USD. We will eliminate export surrender requirements, deal with the debt burden and fight corruption as well as funding the social sector and pursuing fiscal consolidation. Such measures will immediately arrest inflation and bring back confidence to the market.

We will proceed to build foreign exchange reserves, which, with gold reserves, will back up any new currency. Thereafter, we will introduce a Currency Board which will give much-needed confidence to economic players. The reserves and gold can then be held in a trusted foreign account which is held transparently.

Once there is stability through dollarization, we will then focus on growing the economy. To this end, we will implement a raft of policies that stimulate growth and attract investment into the country.

CONCLUSION: a CCC Government will create economic opportunity for all
The CCC will promote a market-led, entrepreneurial society that is socially just and inclusive. This includes policy formulation that will deliberately take into account those who have previously had unequal access to opportunities by reason of gender, ethnicity, region, race and other points of disadvantage. We will do this mindful of the fact that creating opportunities requires the construction of a stable and growing economy. This also requires the state to ensure that there is adequate housing, a sustainable and clean environment, food and the realization of all socio-economic rights that will improve the daily life of all citizens.

Vote for change.

Man Escapes Imprisonment After Bashing Neighbour Over Cattle Dispute

The family of a 53-year-old Karoi woman who was assaulted by her neighbour following a dispute over trespassing cattle has accused the country’s justice system of corruption and incompetence.

Sipiwe Kasora (53), was assaulted by Denford Nyadzo (23) after she had complained that cattle belonging to the Nyadzo family had trespassed and destroyed her maize.

Kasora was severely assaulted and left with a sore head and recurring headaches. This prompted her to report the matter to the police resulting in Denford’s arrest.

Kasora’s son, Hardknocks Usayiwevu, is not happy with the way the courts handled the matter.

He told Pindula News that her mother appeared three times at the Karoi Magistrates Court over the issue but the matter was remanded further to the 20th of June.

Usayiwevu said that the 20th of June was the only day her mother was allowed in the court.

He said after she gave her own narration, the docket had a lot of ommissions and irregularities which were made by the investigating officer.

He said that the medical affidavit was also missing and her mother was then directed to go back and start afresh.

According to Usayiwevu, the ruling on Kasora’s assault case was delivered that very day in her absence and Denford was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

He said the jail term was wholly suspended on condition that Denford does not commit a similar offence in the next 6 months. Added Usayiwevu:

What hurts me the most is that the accused had the audacity to call my mother a lunatic, bludgeoned her face with his fist, undressed her and sat on her chest while beating her up.

He said he feels the justice system has failed his family in freeing the suspect without giving him a custodial sentence.- Pindula News

Mnangagwa Regime Full Of Liars

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has dismissed claims by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration that the exchange rate system was working during the GNU era.

There was no Zim dollar during the GNU era and the exchange rate was reintroduced by Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor John Mangudya way after the GNU.

Mahere tore into Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga accusing him of lying to the nation.

“Guvamatanga lied about the GNU period. There was no Zim dollar during the GNU so there was no talk of exchange rates. The question of rates came back after the GNU when Mangudya introduced 1.1 gedye. The rest is history. Stop lying,” Mahere argued.

She added:
“What happened to the Pfumbvudza bumper harvest?

Policy making by propaganda had brought this country to its knees. Lies, lies and more lies.”

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday declared that he will rule the country after elections expected next year.

Addressing scores of mourners at the burial of the late constitutional law expert and academic Alex Magaisa in Mangisi Village, Chikomba district in Wedza, Mashonaland East province, Chamisa (44) said it was high time Zanu PF leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa prepared for his retirement.

Mnangagwa (79) has already been endorsed by his party as the presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

He came into power on the back of a November 2017 coup which toppled late former President Robert Mugabe.

“I am going to lead, no doubt about that. I feel it, the heavens have endorsed me. Even my brother Mnangagwa is feeling the heat. We are not going to let go of our victory this time,” Chamisa declared.

“My brother Mnangagwa will be on pension in Kwekwe, while we will be leading this country to glory. Even (Vice-President) Constantino Chiwenga, he will be in his rural home of Wedza enjoying pension benefits. An old man cannot till the land, while a young a man is there,” he added.

Chamisa will for the second time be contesting against Mnangagwa for the Presidency next year.

In 2018, Chamisa, who was then the MDC Alliance leader, narrowly lost to Mnangagwa after both candidates amassed more than two million votes each.

The opposition leader accused Mnangagwa of rigging the elections through the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) and State security apparatus.

Chamisa also told mourners that Zimbabwe’s economy has been completely destroyed by people who claim to be educated, including Finance minister Mthuli Ncube.

In his eulogy, Chamisa described Magaisa, who died of a heart ailment on June 6 in the United Kingdom at the age of 46, as a true academic.

“Magaisa was a true academic; his writings were for the good of the people. This country has been destroyed by people who claim to be educated,” the CCC leader said.

“I was listening to (Mthuli) Ncube recently as he said this and that, but he has failed. He was roaming around, no direction in his speech, nothing new. Zimbabweans are suffering, they need a better life.”

Chamisa pleaded for peace during the forthcoming 2023 polls, saying: “I am here to represent Zimbabwe, I and Mnangagwa are one. There is, therefore, no need for us to fight over our political differences because we are one people.”

Chikomba district, where Magaisa was buried, has over the years experienced serious political violence which claimed the lives of a number of opposition activists.

Chamisa bemoaned political persecution in the country and pleaded to Mnangagwa to end the heavy-handedness on political dissent, including arrests of CCC MPs Job Sikhala (Zengeza West) and Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North).

“We all know that Sikhala is in prison for challenging bad governance and speaking the truth. We do not want that,” he added.

Understanding Monkeypox

Zim Man Convicted For Burglary In Botswana

A Zimbabwean man has been jailed four years in Botswana for burglary and theft of property worth over P11 000 from houses in Francistown.
Evidence before the Francistown magistrates court showed that on March 23 this year Abraham Mahlani destroyed burglar bars and padlocks to gain entry into a house belonging to Thandeka Letsholo and Botho Amantle Mokgatle in Francistown’s Maipaafela location.

It is the State case that Mahlani (39) then stole several items, which included a television set, laptop, All-Star shoes, groceries, fridge, microwave, toiletries and a cooking gas cylinder, all valued at P11 335.

The matter was reported to Tatitown police the following day, leading to the arrest of Mahlani.

In mitigation, Mahlani pleaded with the court for leniency, explaining that he wanted to raise money to apply for a driver’s licence.

Instead, the court slapped him with a custodial sentence.

“You are sentenced to four years in prison for burglary and three years for theft. The two sentences are to run concurrently and the sentence is backdated to March 29 when you were incarcerated. Properties stolen will be returned to the owners,” the court ruled.

Another Zimbabwean man, Johane Muwirimi (30) was also arrested for transporting the goods stolen by Mahlani in his Honda Fit.

Muwirimi was, however, exonerated after he told the police that he was not aware that the goods had been stolen.

Muwirimi, however, failed to produce travelling documents when asked to do so, leading to him being charged with a single count of entering the country illegally.

He was then ordered to pay P1 500 for being in Botswana unlawfully, failure which he would be jailed for six months. -Newsday
