The announcement follows mounting pressure on the Mnangagwa administration, particularly from anti-corruption campaigner Blessed Geza, who recently called for the president’s impeachment.

In a press statement dated 10 April 2025, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works outlined the government’s plan to allocate stands to MPs from the 8th, 9th, and current 10th Parliament as a “once-off entitlement” under their conditions of service. The statement confirms that 70 stands were issued on 9 April — 40 in Mabelreign (Harare), 15 in Killarney (Goromonzi), and 15 in Penrose (Zvimba).

The announcement has triggered widespread backlash over what many see as a politically motivated move to shield President Emmerson Mnangagwa from accountability. Veteran opposition activist Tungamirai Madzokere is eyeing a strong comeback in the political arena as he contests in the Glen View South Constituency by-election set for April 12.

Madzokere, running as an independent candidate, is up against ZANU PF’s Tranquility Tsitsi Tawomhera, fellow independents Tonderai Chakaredza and George Makwangaidze—both also affiliated with the opposition—and Perpetua Mukanda from the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) led by Lovemore Madhuku.

Madzokere, a long-time activist and former political prisoner, is banking on grassroots support and his track record of resilience in fighting for democratic reforms. A member of his campaign team, speaking confidently, said:

“We are not just participating—we are in this to win. Glen View South knows who stood with them in difficult times, and Tungamirai is that person.”

The team member also criticized the ruling party’s campaign tactics, saying voters will not be swayed by freebies. “People are tired of empty promises and temporary handouts. They want real leadership, someone who understands their struggles—not someone imposed on them with groceries and cash.”

The Zimbabwean government has come under fire for allocating residential stands to Members of Parliament, with critics alleging the move is a thinly veiled attempt to sway lawmakers ahead of a potential impeachment motion against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The motion, reportedly being spearheaded by war veteran Blessed Geza, has sparked controversy and speculation over whether the recent land allocations are part of a broader strategy to secure political loyalty.

The government has defended its allocation of residential stands to lawmakers, stating that the initiative is a long-standing component of MPs’ non-monetary benefits.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works on Thursday, April 10, officials said the stands are part of Parliamentarians’ conditions of service and not a recent development tied to political maneuvering.

“The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works in 2013 partnered with the Parliament of Zimbabwe to avail residential stands in urban and peri-urban areas for allocation to Honourable members, effective the 8th Parliament and forward,” the notice reads.

It further emphasized that, “This facility is a once-off entitlement given as a non-monetary benefit, which is part of their conditions of service.”

The government confirmed that, as of April 9, 2025, a total of 333 stands had been allocated to Parliament, with an additional 70 handed out across three locations: 15 in Killarney (Goromonzi), 15 in Penrose (Zvimba), and 40 in Mabelreign (Harare).

“To date Parliament of Zimbabwe has been allocated residential stands in Goromonzi (188), Bulawayo (49), Chiredzi (12), Kadoma (9) and Beit Bridge (5),” the statement added.

The timing of the allocations, however, has raised eyebrows. Critics argue that the move is part of a broader effort by the ZANU PF-led government to curry favour with MPs, including those from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), in light of a looming impeachment attempt.

A CCC legislator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “We were surprised by the sudden rush to allocate stands now. It doesn’t feel like a coincidence, especially with all the talk about impeachment.”

There are also unconfirmed reports suggesting MPs are being offered incentives of up to US$200,000 and the possibility of extending their terms to 2030 in exchange for support against the impeachment motion and backing an extension of Mnangagwa’s presidency beyond the 2028 constitutional limit.

“It’s clear they are trying to buy loyalty,” said one political analyst. “The stands, the cash, even the proposal to skip the 2028 election—this is all part of a strategy to consolidate power.”

Despite government insistence that the allocations are legitimate and routine, the timing has cast a shadow over the integrity of Parliament, with many Zimbabweans questioning whether their representatives are being incentivized to abandon constitutional principles.

ZANU PF has ramped up its campaign efforts in Harare’s Glen View South constituency ahead of the crucial by-election set for April 12, with reports of residents receiving cash handouts and groceries in what critics say is a blatant vote-buying strategy.

Residents have reportedly been given food parcels, beer, and small amounts of money during campaign rallies—tactics opposition parties and political observers have condemned as attempts to manipulate voters through material inducements.

“We were given mealie meal, cooking oil, and even beer at the rally,” said a Glen View South resident who asked to remain anonymous. “They said we should support their candidate and promised more if we vote for her.”

Another resident added, “It’s hard to say no when you are hungry and struggling. They gave us US$5 and some groceries. We know it’s not right, but people here are desperate.”

Speaking to the media, ZANU PF Women’s League Secretary for External Affairs, Betty Kaseke defended the party’s approach, saying their focus is on empowerment, not bribery.

“We are anchoring our campaign on empowerment and we are delivering,” she said. “As the Women’s League, we made a promise to the women of Glen View that we will empower them through various projects, and that is exactly what we are doing.”

Kaseke expressed confidence in the party’s candidate, Tsitsi Tawomhera, predicting a ZANU PF victory on Saturday.

“We are confident that our candidate will win. The people of Glen View South have seen the work we are doing and we believe they will respond positively,” she added.

The Glen View South seat became vacant following the death of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Gladmore Hakata in January. Five candidates are contesting in the by-election: ZANU PF’s Tsitsi Tawomhera, NCA’s Perpetua Mukanda, and independent candidates George Makwangwaidze, Tonderai Chakeredza, and Tungamirai Madzokere.

Despite ZANU PF’s confidence, allegations of vote-buying continue to cloud the campaign, raising questions about the fairness and integrity of the upcoming election.

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova has denied bail to 95 suspected activists accused of organising protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa on March 31 2025.

The group will languish in jail as they wait for their trial.

They were remanded to April 24 for their routine remand.

They face charges of participating in a gathering intended to incite public violence.

Matova said the release ofsuspects “will jeopardise peace and security in the country.”

According to the State, on March 31, 2025, at approximately 09:20 hours, the accused gathered at Robert Mugabe Square, commonly referred to as Freedom Square in Harare, with the intention of marching through the streets of the city.

Prosecutors claim that the group also aimed to proceed “to the State House of Zimbabwe and forcibly remove the Constitutionally elected President Emmerson Mnangagwa.”

“The accused were making their vows of removing the President saying, ‘enough is enough, Mnangagwa must go, ED must go nezvigananda zvake. Madzibaba veshanduko huyai mutitungamirire, comrade Geza huyai mutitungamirire’ and whistled.

Police deployed for maintenance of order observed about two hundred 200 people gathered and approached the group.

“The accused pilled stones, bricks and tyres along Robert Mugabe road. They threw stones towards the police officers whilst singing Hatidi zvekupihwa order nemasasikamu.”

They also took themselves pictures and videos which they posted on various social media platforms.

“The accused one (1) to 94 were arrested at the crime scene while accused 95 was arrested at his residence through identification from circulating pictures and videos,” the State alleges.- ZimEye

By Crime and Courts Reporter- A Karoi Magistrate has detained 17 Malawi nationals in custody for illegal entry into Zimbabwe.

The 17 were remanded to April 16 when a Chewa interpreter will be available to ensure the group can follow court proceedings.

The Malawians were travelling in an overloaded Malawian-registered Achisi Bus that crashed near the 165km peg along Harare-Chirundu Road en route to South Africa.

According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), police responding to the accident discovered that 17 passengers did not possess valid entry permits for Zimbabwe.

Further, the bus driver fled the scene, raising suspicions of human trafficking.

The NPA said the incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal migration and the potential trafficking of persons along northern transit routes in Zimbabwe.

Former CCC MPs, Chibaya and Machingauta fined US$500

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Harare magistrate Sharon Rakafa has fined Amos Chibaya and Costa Machingauta, both former lawmakers from the Citizens Coalition for Change, along with three party activists following their conviction for unlawful gathering ahead of August 2023 harmonized elections.

The five were ordered to pay S$500 each or risk facing a six months jail term.

In addition to the fines, the five individuals received a wholly suspended one-year jail term.

Rakafa noted that they were first-time offenders and breadwinners.

“It is the court’s view that imposing a custodial sentence will be too harsh for the accused who are first-time offenders. However, a clear message has to be sent to would-be offenders that the courts do not condone this behavior,” the magistrate stated while delivering her sentence.

The other three are are Monica Mukwands, Aletta Viremai and Lancelot Tungwarara.

The five were convicted last week, while 20 others involved in the incident were acquitted, with the court determining that those individuals had been caught in a dragnet arrest.

The State presented evidence indicating that on January 14, 2023, the group of 25, including those who were acquitted, had been invited to Machingauta’s home for a CCC presidential assembly meeting. This invitation was created and disseminated via various social media platforms by Tungwarara.

The convicted CCC members were identified by their CCC regalia, which included caps, helmets, and T-shirts, as they gathered at Machingauta’s residence.

According to the State, during the unauthorised assembly, the group chanted the CCC’s slogans: “Ngaapinde hake Mukomana, 2023 Chamisa Chete Chete,” referring to Nelson Chamisa, the CCC’s presidential candidate.

Police officers from the Budiriro Police Station received reports about the illegal gathering and responded to investigate. Upon their arrival, the officers noted that the actions of the five individuals were disrupting public peace.

The police instructed them to disperse, but they refused, which resulted in their arrest.

A Zebra Kiss bus, en route from Harare to Lusaka, Zambia, crashed on Monday night near Chirundu, just a few kilometers before Marongora. The bus reportedly lost control, veering off the road and landing in a ditch, resulting in several passengers sustaining injuries.

Tangisai Mapuranga, the managing director of Zebra Kiss, confirmed the incident but indicated that further details are still being gathered. He stated:

“While the exact cause of the accident is not yet clear, we are relieved to report that there have been no fatalities. Only minor injuries have been reported so far.”

By Crime and Courts Reporter-The police have confirmed the arrest of a popular Waterfalls self-styled prophet for raping and impregnating a 15-year-old student.

Madzibaba Cornelius Muza was arrested Monday after being reported to have lured the student into his shrine sometime in November last year, claiming that she had an object in her stomach he wanted to remove by having sex with her.

The student fell pregnant, and after Madzibaba Conilius learnt about her pregnancy, he promised to marry her, thereby silencing her from disclosing the act to her parents.

Madzibaba Cornelius allegedly turned his Mercedes Benz into a love nest where he would sexually abuse the student every Tuesday.

He would pick up the student from school and spend the day with her.

The evil act came to light when the student’s parent noticed an unusual behaviour and she disclosed her pregnancy and rape.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest.
“Police arrested a Waterfalls church leader for rape. He stands accused of raping and impregnating a girl aged 15 at his shrine.
“The accused person is expecting to appear in court tomorrow (today),” said Insp Chakanza.

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Sybeth Musengezi, a Zanu PF activist who was arrested after his press conference at the Media Centre in Harare was violently disrupted by two men, has been granted bail.

Musengezi briefly appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who granted him US$100 bail.

His trial has been set for April 30.

Musengezi’s trial was disrupted by two men who stormed into the room wearing reflective bibs and face masks to conceal their identities.

In videos that went viral on social media, the men were seen grabbing his speech before clinging to his suit and disrupting the entire event.

However, in his affidavit, the complainant, Norest Tarubekera, said that when he stormed into the room, he was chasing after his colleague who had taken his airtime and run up to the second floor at Bothwell House, where the press briefing was taking place.

As the only female presidential candidate in the 2023 harmonized elections, Valerio expressed her concerns about the government’s priorities, stating that they are more focused on maintaining power than fulfilling their election promises.

Valerio criticized Mnangagwa’s administration for relying on empty slogans while neglecting the country’s pressing issues.

She noted that the national discourse is being hijacked by those seeking to prolong their political dominance, rather than addressing the needs of the citizenry. Valerio stated, “We are merely two years into this term, but already the national discourse is being hijacked by the self-serving agenda of prolonging political dominance rather than addressing the immediate and pressing needs of the citizenry.”

Valerio also expressed concerns about the push for an extended term, suggesting that it may be driven by the ruling party’s fear of losing power in a true democracy.

She said, “This push for an extended term may in part have been intensified because many of the current political players now know that their likelihood of reelection (in a true democracy) is slim!”

As the leader of the United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA), Valerio urged ZANU PF to adhere to the Constitution of Zimbabwe and respect democratic principles, rather than focusing solely on political survival.

She expressed concern that the country is being “held hostage” by internal divisions within the ruling party and made it clear that her party has no interest in their internal power struggles.

Harare City Council’s Mabelreign District office has confirmed the presence of close to 80 members of Parliament enlisted to obtain free stands.

The development is part of a parliamentary program that comes shortly after anti corruption activist Blessed Geza called for a motion to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Various legislator’s cars arrived in the surbub, impeccable sources told ZimEye, in what is likely speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda’s effort to avoid both an impeachment and an international prosecution over war crimes against him registered following a ZimEye interview in Serbia 6 years ago.

Mercy Makuvatsine at the Harare City Council did not provide comment.

ZimEye reached out to the Department of Housing at Mbare from where stands are allocated which did not provide comment at the time of writing.

Recently, the war veteran Blessed Geza called for the impeachment of President Mnangagwa, after executing a protest on 31 March.

Jailed Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) journalist Blessed Mhlanga is struggling to cope with life behind bars, citing severe health issues and emotional distress.

Mhlanga, host of the Free Talk interview programme at Heart and Soul Television, has been denied bail three times since his arrest on February 24.

Mhlanga revealed in a letter that he is suffering from a serious bout of flu, which is exacerbating his sleepless nights.

The overcrowded conditions in the prison’s D-class section, where he is being held alongside dangerous criminals, are taking a toll on his health.

He wrote, “As I write from this discomfort of my overcrowded cell, I am suffering from a serious bout of flu which has drained my strength and now threatens my inner peace.”

Mhlanga admitted that the experience has been overwhelming, causing him emotional pain and frustration. He stated, “My friends, the journey has not been easy and it remains extremely difficult as we nudge forward; it is a marathon, not a sprint. It is very uncomfortable but unavoidable… I am in pain, lost and sadly broken.”

Despite the challenges, Mhlanga expressed gratitude to his supporters, including fellow journalists, his legal team, family, and friends, who have provided emotional support and financial assistance. He said, “I have fought with everyone around me… Honestly, I cannot imagine how I would have survived without your voices of solidarity and love.”

Mhlanga was arrested and charged under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23, for allegedly inciting public violence through his coverage of a press conference held by Blessed Geza, a former ZANU PF Central Committee member.

Geza had called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s resignation, citing issues such as corruption and nepotism.

Various legislator’s cars arrived in the surbub, impeccable sources told ZimEye, in what is likely speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda’s effort to avoid both an impeachment and an international prosecution over war crimes against him registered following a ZimEye interview in Serbia 6 years ago.

Mercy Makuvatsine at the Harare City Council did not provide comment.

ZimEye reached out to the Department of Housing at Mbare from where stands are allocated which did not provide comment at the time of writing.

Recently, the war veteran Blessed Geza called for the impeachment of President Mnangagwa, after executing a protest on 31 March.

A 44-year-old self-proclaimed spiritual healer has been convicted of rape and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment by the Mutare Regional Magistrates’ Court. The case sheds light on how predators exploit faith and desperation to commit abuse, raising concerns about accountability for fake healers and the protection of vulnerable individuals.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the offender sexually assaulted a neighbour under the guise of a ‘healing ritual’ in Dangamvura, Mutare. The 46-year-old complainant, who was experiencing severe menstrual bleeding, sought the ‘prophet’s’ help. Initially, he provided her with herbal ‘treatment,’ but later claimed that evil spirits were tormenting her.

On April 16, 2024, he took her to a river near Gimboki, where he raped her. Believing it was part of the healing process, the complainant complied. However, her husband later discovered the assault, leading to a police report and the offender’s subsequent arrest.

Zanu PF hardliners have accused former party commissar Saviour Kasukuwere of plotting to remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa from office.

This accusation stems from Kasukuwere’s alleged involvement with a group of war veterans led by Blessed Geza, who are spearheading a campaign to oust Mnangagwa.

The war veterans, who recently held a press conference, have expressed their discontent with Mnangagwa’s leadership, stating that he has “failed” and is “not fit to run this country”.

They have called on Mnangagwa to resign peacefully or face unspecified action.

Geza’s faction opposes Mnangagwa’s potential third term bid, which is being pushed by a rival faction within the party.

Kasukuwere, currently living in exile in South Africa, has been viewed as a threat to Mnangagwa’s administration since his failed attempt to return to Zimbabwe and run for president in 2023.

Mnangagwa’s allies have reportedly launched a witchhunt to uncover supporters of Geza’s campaign.

Political Reporter senior New Ziana staffer Herbert Mutugwi has collapsed and died at work. 

He was 58.

Mutugwi, a prominent figure in Zimbabwean state media, collapsed and died at work on Monday. 

His sudden death has cast a pall over the media fraternity, with colleagues mourning the loss of a seasoned journalist, mentor, and friend.

Though he had recently battled illness, Mutugwi had recovered and returned to duty, determined to continue serving the profession he had dedicated his life to.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust (ZMMT), the parent company of New Ziana, expressed deep sorrow at his passing.

“The Board of Trustees of the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust, along with management and staff, extend our heartfelt condolences to Herbert’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said ZMMT executive secretary Ray Mungoshi.

“Herbert was a valuable member of our team and played a crucial role in the revival efforts of New Ziana. His experience, expertise, and unparalleled ability to mentor reporters will be deeply missed. We have lost a true champion of journalism. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.”

With nearly four decades of journalistic service, Mutugwi was among the last of a rare generation of newsroom veterans—pillars of institutional memory and guidance in an evolving media landscape.

He began his journalism journey in 1987 after graduating from Harare Polytechnic College with a Diploma in Mass Communications. 

He joined the Chronicle newspaper as a cadet reporter and rose through the ranks to become assistant news editor by 1992—a position he held with distinction until 1997.

That year, he assumed the role of news editor at the Manica Post, where he remained for six years, overseeing one of the most crucial editorial portfolios in the industry.

In 2010, after leaving the Zimpapers group, Mutugwi joined New Ziana and served as editor of the Nehanda Guardian in Mashonaland Central, before being transferred to edit the Masvingo Star, a flagship publication in the New Ziana stable. 

More recently, he worked at the agency’s head office, where he focused on mentoring young reporters—passing on the wisdom of years spent navigating the newsroom.

Soft-spoken yet firm, meticulous in his craft, and unwavering in his dedication, Mutugwi was revered by peers and protégés alike. His death marks the end of an era.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course following consultations with the family.

The details come from explosive screenshots obtained from an iPhone handset allegedly seized from a South African student—reportedly by Mutisi—who accused the former Zim lecturer of molestation.

The evidence paints a damning picture of how Angel moved swiftly to control the fallout from Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia documentary, which exposed money laundering and gold smuggling operations involving high-profile Zimbabwean officials, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

How It All Began:

On 28 March 2023, Angel initiated contact with Mutisi via WhatsApp, introducing himself and stating that he was referred by “longtime pimp” @MudiwaHood. In the very same conversation, Angel requests a South African bank account, and within minutes, sends payment to Mutisi’s FNB account, confirming the financial transaction with a PDF titled “Payment Notification-5060.pdf.”

Mutisi Joins Operation GoldMafia Damage Control.

Once payment was secured, Mutisi dives headfirst into the operation, coordinating a barrage of media responses to shield Angel. In the messages, Angel explicitly seeks “decoys” and requests a script for Tafadzwa Mugwadi, ZANU PF’s Director of Information, to issue a fake public relations statement on Angel’s behalf.

Angel, desperate to appear credible, writes, “Speaking as if I speak directly to the president… even when I don’t have direct access.”

Mutisi responds by writing ready-made statements that praise Angel as a national asset, saying, “our aim here is to show that WE still have your back… you are an asset & doing work for the good of the country.”

International Disinformation: Nevers Mumba and Harry Kalaba Enlisted

The revelations take an international twist. Mutisi identifies Zambia’s former Vice President Nevers Mumba and former Foreign Minister Harry Kalaba as “first choice” figures for a regional spin campaign. Both men later appeared in videos defending Angel and minimizing the Gold Mafia allegations.

Footage broadcast on ZimEye confirms Kalaba was “caught on camera” working in direct liaison with Angel as late as 23 August 2023. State security agents are subjecting Zanu PF councillor Zivanai Zvada from Zaka to ongoing harassment for allegedly expressing sympathy towards Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Zvada, who represents Ward 24 in Zaka, was detained last week by the police on charges of inciting public disorder. Since then, State security agents have been closely monitoring and tormenting the Zanu PF official.

Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has publicly condemned widespread corruption within Zanu PF, accusing the party of rampant looting and mismanagement.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha has made explosive claims against Blessed Runesu Geza, accusing him of dishonesty and greed during the liberation war.

Machacha alleged that Geza, a former ZANU PF Central Committee member, engaged in theft while serving in Mozambique, stealing goods from a logistics warehouse and reselling them to villagers.

These allegations come after Geza’s fallout with the ruling party over its push to amend the constitution to allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa a third term.

Geza has previously faced accusations of serious crimes, including rape, murder, and theft.

The timing of these new accusations—after his break with the party—has raised questions.

In a video shared by ZANU PF on social media, Machacha, who claims to be related to Geza, addressed party members at an undisclosed location, revealing his family connection to the accused. He said:

“I acknowledge that Geza is my uncle. You heard him rant that I am his nephew, yes, it’s true. I am not speaking of a person that I am not familiar with. We were together at Chimoio during the war.”

Machacha went on to claim that Geza never fought at the warfront. Instead, he allegedly spent his time stealing from the camp’s logistics warehouse. According to Machacha, Geza would steal clothes intended for guerrilla fighters and sell them in local villages, or exchange them for alcohol and cigarettes. He said:

“There was a big hall which served as a logistics warehouse where clothes for guerrilla fighters were stored. Bombshell would go there and steal jeans and shirts, which he would go and sell in the villages or exchange for beer or cigarettes.”

“He literally never spent a single day in camp. Each morning, he would go around villages and get chicken, beer, cigarettes, and Saraveji.”

Machacha also stated that Geza faced punishment for his actions, including being flogged by security personnel, but remained unrepentant. He claimed:

“Whenever he was caught stealing, he would be given corporal punishment, flogged on the buttocks by security details at the camp. But he never learned his lesson.”

Machacha further accused Geza of dishonestly claiming to be the son of nationalist Robert Mugabe while in Romania for military training, which led to special treatment from Romanian authorities. He said:

“The correct fact was that Geza’s elder brother was married to Mugabe’s sister. He would be chauffeured in limousines around Romania.”

Machacha also alleged that Geza had tricked FRELIMO soldiers during a military operation in Mozambique by intoxicating them, then stealing engines from their Scania trucks and smuggling them into Zimbabwe. He said:

“Geza would get the FRELIMO soldiers drunk and then steal the engines from their Scania trucks, which he would smuggle back into Zimbabwe.”

In addition, Machacha accused Geza of raiding white commercial farmers’ cattle during the land reform program and taking control of abattoirs, where he slaughtered and sold the stolen cattle. He further alleged that Geza looted diamonds during the Chiadzwa diamond rush while serving as a security officer for Mbada Diamonds.

Lastly, Machacha suggested that Geza’s fallout with President Mnangagwa began when he was disqualified from running in the 2018 elections for the Sanyati constituency due to a pending rape case involving a local schoolgirl.

A Shurugwi school head, Emmanuel Hove, has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly converting $1,745 in Zimsec examination registration fees to personal use.

The 52-year-old Dombojena Primary School head was remanded in custody by Magistrate Patricia Gwetsai.

The theft was discovered by deputy head Kundai Pedzi, who attempted to register pupils for the examinations.

Parents and guardians of 77 pupils had paid the registration fees between January and March 2024, totaling $1,745.

“I had the opportunity to interact with the president recently at an event at his farm, and he was full of energy. He even danced to traditional music, which is hardly the behavior of someone unwell.”

“I’ve never been one to engage in sycophantic behavior, even during my time as an MP. My criticism of the government has always been constructive. The difference is that those who accuse me of bootlicking thrive on negativity and insults, something I refuse to engage in.”

“The narrative of the president being sick is completely unfounded. Just recently, at the education conference in Victoria Falls, he made a joke that fit perfectly within the context of his speech.”

“However, those who weren’t present selectively edited the video and used it to claim that he’s incompetent. Who does that? For those of us who were there, including foreign guests, the meaning was clear and had nothing to do with some amateur psychological analysis.”

“You can’t manipulate a story by cherry-picking facts to suit your agenda, just as you can’t edit a video out of context and claim it proves something it doesn’t. The president is well aware of his health, which is why he has hinted at stepping down in 2028.”

“Spreading false narratives won’t hasten his exit. Those with political insight should focus on building real grassroots support. Get involved with communities and prepare for 2028 elections instead of hiding behind social media and telling comforting lies.”

“The opposition has been trapped in this cycle for years, thinking that the 180,000 people on X represent the whole country. When the elections come, they’ll be in for a rude awakening. Right now, as someone once said, the opposition is ‘dead as a dodo.’”

Social media has become a battleground for rival factions in ZANU PF, with much of the criticism directed at Mnangagwa’s reported ambitions to extend his rule beyond 2028.

Speaking at a Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic on Sunday, national political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha said the policy will regulate how party members engage on digital platforms.

“The party’s social media policy is now ready. It’s with the national leadership for final scrutiny, and is only waiting for Politburo approval,” said Machacha.

The policy, now awaiting final approval by the Politburo, is being framed as a tool to restore discipline and curb the misuse of social media platforms, which the leadership says has sown discord within party ranks.

Speaking at a Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic on Sunday, national political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha said the policy will regulate how party members engage on digital platforms.

“The party’s social media policy is now ready. It’s with the national leadership for final scrutiny, and is only waiting for Politburo approval,” said Machacha.

He added: “This policy will guide how our members conduct themselves on social media. The days of abusing these platforms to undermine party unity are numbered.”

“Geza the Great: The VIP War Hero Who Fought from a Romanian Limousine”

In the grand theatre of Zimbabwe’s liberation narrative, one man has emerged as both a backstage kleptomaniac and a front-row VIP: Blessed Runesu Geza, or as he was allegedly known in war-time corridors, “Bombshell.”

According to ZANU PF’s National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha—Geza’s own flesh and blood—our so-called liberator spent the war not in trenches, but in jeans, loafing around Mozambican villages trading army rations for Saraveji and beer like a black-market Casanova. While his comrades were dodging bullets, Geza is accused of dodging responsibilities, collecting chickens and flirting with bottle store owners.

“He’d get flogged on the buttocks daily, but never stopped. The man had calluses of corruption,” Machacha thundered, confusing the audience who couldn’t tell if this was a political briefing or a vintage ZBC drama re-run.

But the tale doesn’t end in Chimoio. Apparently, after being “exiled” to Romania for military training, Geza saw an opportunity and introduced himself to the Romanians as Robert Mugabe’s long-lost son. Not Mugabe’s nephew. His son. Naturally, the Romanians, thrilled to host the heir of Zimbabwe’s revolution, gave him the royal treatment. Chauffeured limousines, red carpets, and possibly a velvet-lined AK-47. While others were wrestling with guerrilla tactics, Geza was sipping wine and waving at traffic in Bucharest.

After the war, like a soldier-turned-Disney villain, Geza allegedly transitioned smoothly into a life of post-war plunder: stealing cattle during land reform, looting diamonds in Chiadzwa, and auctioning off Scania truck engines stolen from FRELIMO soldiers who he allegedly got drunk with homebrew.

But the pièce de résistance? When he tried to run for office in Sanyati in 2018, he was disqualified over a rape charge—and that, according to party insiders, is when he suddenly stopped being a war hero and started being a criminal.

The irony is thick: As long as he played along with the party script, Geza was a respected comrade. But the moment he questioned the Third Term bid or strayed from the Mnangagwa gospel, his war credentials were revoked like a stolen ZUPCO bus.

It leaves Zimbabweans asking:

How many war heroes were really heroes?

Or were some just really good at stealing chickens and stories?

One thing is clear: In ZANU PF, you’re a hero until you’re a headache.

And Geza?

He might be the first revolutionary to liberate a nation from the comfort of a limousine in Bucharest, says Machacha in his folk-smear.

Rusape police are searching for a Mukuru employee accused of stealing $23,393 and ZAR9,500 from his workplace earlier this month. Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said they are seeking information to arrest Jasper Pondo, 31, of Magamba Extension, Rusape.

Pondo worked as a cashier at the Mukuru booth in Rusape. According to reports, Fawcett Security Company delivered cash to the booth in a safe.

The money was stored in password-protected compartments, accessible only by Mukuru superiors in Harare.

The accusation comes from a newly formed group calling itself the Defenders of Vice President Chiwenga and the Constitution of Zimbabwe – England Branch, led by self-described war veteran Cde Jekanyika. In a press release issued on 6 April in Luton, England, the group claims that Sean Mnangagwa’s rise is part of a broader “parallel state” orchestrated by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and powerful business magnate Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

According to the document, Sean Mnangagwa is now effectively controlling the affairs of the state through covert military and intelligence appointments, despite having no constitutional authority. “The Zimbabwe National Army must designate Major Sean Mnangagwa a terrorist because he has a plan to attack critical infrastructures in order to put blame on a group of war veterans who are fighting against corruption,” the group’s statement reads.

The allegations come amid growing discontent within ZANU-PF’s military-aligned factions, many of whom have grown increasingly vocal about what they describe as endemic corruption, economic collapse, and abuse of state power by the Mnangagwa family. The press release also alleges that President Mnangagwa, said to be in deteriorating health, is being manipulated by those close to him, including his wife and son.

Notably, the veterans’ group calls for Vice President Chiwenga to assume leadership after Mnangagwa’s term ends in 2028 and contests the upcoming elections. They also call for Major Sean Mnangagwa to be stripped of any military authority, labelling him a “terrorist.”

The statement further highlights a litany of corruption scandals allegedly involving the President’s family, including looting from national schemes such as the Command Agriculture programme, the Presidential goat scheme, and the controversial Gwanda solar project. It also condemns the arrests of over 100 anti-corruption protesters and the detention without trial of journalist Blessed Mhlanga.

This development marks one of the most significant intra-party challenges to Mnangagwa’s leadership since he seized power in 2017 through a military-assisted transition that sidelined Robert Mugabe.

There has been no official response from the Zimbabwean government or ZANU-PF at the time of publication.

Glen View South was shaken by a wave of political violence on the night of April 5, 2025, when supporters of independent candidate Tonderai Chakaredza were targeted in a brutal attack.

The homes and vehicles of prominent opposition members, including Ward 23 Councillor Gaudencia Marera and Shadreck Rateiwa, were bombed by unknown assailants, believed to be politically motivated.

The attack occurs just days before the upcoming by-election on April 12, 2025, following the sudden passing of the Honorable Glandmore Hakata, which has created a political vacuum in the area and heightened tensions.

Councillor Gaudencia Marera, who resides at House Number 337 in Glen View 1 Extension, was left devastated after discovering that both his vehicles—a Nissan X-Trail (AGF6795) and a Honda Fit (AFL5622)—were destroyed in the attack. Similarly, his fellow opposition ally, Shadreck Rateiwa, who lives at 737 Dare Rechimurenga in Glen View 4 Extension, found his home severely damaged by the bombing.

The bombings caused extensive damage, shattering windows, damaging walls, and compromising the roofs of both properties. Councillor Marera spoke to Change Radio, visibly shaken, saying, “I am devastated by the bombing of my house and the destruction of my two cars. Politics should not resemble a life-and-death battle; rather, it is a contest aimed at representing the needs of our citizens. I vehemently condemn this violence and urge law enforcement to apprehend those responsible.”

Rateiwa, equally distressed, shared his outrage over the damage to his home and the loss of valuables. “My house was bombed, and countless valuables were lost. The damage amounts to thousands of U.S. dollars,” he said. “I am profoundly disappointed by the actions of these political thugs.”

As a result, Chin’ono’s name change remains out of the cache, also because he was not convicted. However, his latest notorious operations were last year when he encouraged people to compromise airport security since 29 April 2024. One of the colleagues who Chin’ono encouraged is one Jennifer Banyure, who was encouraged by Chin’ono, to sabotage Gatwick Airport’s database on 26 Aug 2024.

Banyure engaged a hacker on Chin’ono’s encouragement to delete her other name she used to enter UK and then changed in the same year Chin’ono (previously surnamed Mukusha) changed his, 2001.

Banyure was captured on camera inside Nottingham’s St James Hotel with a hacker performing the hacking operation.

Under Chin’ono’s encouragements and instructions, Banyure moved over to try and rob a senior engineer of his multi million pound property. She did this using the fake identity she shifted to in the same year Hopewell Chin’ono changed his.

Following an investigation by ZimEye however, a Derby County Court judge Justice Pittman, has ruled a clean break resolution that blocks Banyure from her manoeuvres. Zimbabwean journalist and political prisoner Blessed Mhlanga has once again been denied bail, marking the third time he has faced such a ruling.

Mhlanga, known for his critical reporting on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s actions, is being persecuted for exposing the government’s alleged wrongdoings. The Magistrate presiding over his case ruled that the bail application lacked merit.

Mhlanga is now scheduled to appear in court on 22 April 2025 for notification of his trial date.

By Crime and Courts Reporter-Authorities in South Africa are investigating controversial businessman and convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo concerning corruption involving R800 Million. 

The allegations stem from reports that the Finance ministry paid over R1.1 billion to a South African company contracted to supply election materials, of which more than R800 million (US$42 Million) was immediately deposited into Chivayo-linked companies’ bank accounts.

The revelations, detailed in a confidential forensic analysis by South Africa’s Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), have prompted urgent interest from South Africa’s law enforcement agencies, including the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the South African Police Service (SAPS), who are now moving towards possible arrest and prosecution.

The financial trail leads directly to Ren-Form CC, a Johannesburg-based commercial printing company handpicked to supply materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for the August 2023 general elections—bypassing public tender procedures.

The FIC which analyzed Ren-Form’s bank transactions from April 2023 to May 2024, uncovered that once the Zimbabwean treasury deposited over R1.1 billion into the company’s accounts, more than R800 million was rapidly siphoned off to companies controlled by Chivayo—primarily Intratrek Holdings and Dolintel Trading Enterprise.

Chivayo’s murky dealings are not new. In 2017, he was convicted of fraud and served time in prison over a failed multimillion-dollar Zimbabwe Power Company contract. 

Despite his criminal record, Chivayo has managed to reinvent himself as a politically connected tenderpreneur, frequently flaunting his close relationship with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other senior Zanu PF officials.

His growing influence within Zimbabwe’s power corridors has raised eyebrows, especially as his name continues to surface in multimillion-dollar contracts involving public funds. Chivayo has often been seen accompanying Mnangagwa on state functions and claims to enjoy the president’s full protection.

The Ren-Form contract would have remained shrouded in secrecy had it not been for a dramatic fallout between Chivayo and his business associates, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu. 

Audio clips and WhatsApp messages leaked to the media captured the trio squabbling over how to split “commission” payments from the Ren-Form deal. In the recordings, Chivayo brags about paying off senior government officials to secure the contract.

Although Chivayo has denied the voice recordings are his and apologized to Mnangagwa, former CIO director-general Isaac Moyo, cabinet secretary Martin Rushwaya, and ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, the damage was already done. 

His apology, notably, did not include a denial that payments were made—only regret for giving the impression that state institutions were complicit.

The leaked materials suggest that Ren-Form grossly inflated prices on a wide range of election materials—from ballot papers, biometric voter registration (BVR) kits, and servers to basic items like tents and non-flushing toilets—with the excess profits channeled as kickbacks to Chivayo and his partners.

In one instance, a central server valued at R90,000 online was billed at R23 million. 

Non-flushing toilets were invoiced at R68,700 each—nearly seven times their retail cost. BVR kits, initially quoted at US$5,000, ballooned to US$16,000 by the time the invoice reached Zimbabwe’s treasury.

For comparison, the United Nations Development Programme paid just US$3,600 per unit for similar kits during the 2021 Honduran elections.

The FIC noted that once the payments landed in Chivayo-controlled accounts, money was swiftly transferred to multiple third parties. 

These included a R156 million payment made directly by the Zimbabwean government to Edenbreeze, another Chivayo company, allegedly for “architectural and technical services.”

The FIC flagged Chivayo’s accounts for suspicious activities, citing the frequent movement of large, round-figure sums inconsistent with the account holder’s stated business profile. 

He reportedly splurged more than R36 million from a personal account on luxury car purchases and made significant payments to law firms, car dealerships, travel agents, and obscure South African companies.

Among the entities receiving major payouts from Chivayo’s companies were:

• Asibambeki Platinum Group: R351 million
• Kumba Group: R28.8 million
• Indo Logistics: R9.4 million
• Daytona (luxury car dealer): R5.4 million
• Flight Centre SA: R1.6 million
• NN Truck and Trailer: R5.6 million
• Strauss Scher Inc (law firm): R4 million
• Christian by Hadassah (Zim makeup brand): R1 million

Although Chivayo denies any wrongdoing and insists the payments were legitimate business transactions, South African authorities appear unconvinced. 

The FIC’s findings have not only been handed over to SARS and SAPS but also shared with Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), which is yet to take meaningful action.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission initially pledged to probe the election contract scandal but has since gone quiet, fueling speculation of political interference.

Chimombe and Mpofu—who accused Chivayo of betrayal—have since been arrested in Zimbabwe on unrelated corruption charges and denied bail, a move critics say was meant to silence them.

Ren-Form, for its part, has denied wrongdoing, but must now explain how it retained only R300 million of the R1.1 billion it received, suggesting that over R800 million was systematically extracted through inflated pricing.

The announcement included a direct appeal to journalists, urging them to “be part of the change” and “share the truth,” implying that the “truth” in this context is aligned with the government’s version of events.

Join the Munhumutapa Digital Hub and share your positive stories highlighting the ongoing transformation under President E.D. Mnangagwa’s leadership.”

The programme, called the Munhumutapa Digital Hub, is described as a “powerful digital space” created to promote Zimbabwe’s growth, celebrating the accomplishments of the current administration. It encourages journalists to collaborate and highlight the success stories under the Second Republic, a term used by the government to refer to Mnangagwa’s leadership. Miners4ED, a ZANU PF affiliate, hasn’t commented on the killing of an artisanal miner at a Chinese-run mine. At their annual National Chairman’s Conference, they focused on formalizing operations. “We’re urging our members to formalize and legalize their operations,” said Cde Coussie Anashe, CEO of Miners4ED.

The revelation comes from a pair of high-level, JOC-style meetings—first held in Borrowdale, then at Precabe Farm, President Mnangagwa’s private estate. The gatherings were attended by Mnangagwa himself, Ziyambi, State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke, First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, and senior operatives including Owen ‘Mudha’ Ncube. Sources say the meetings bore the hallmarks of a Joint Operations Command (JOC) council, even if not officially designated as such.

According to leaked intelligence notes, the agenda was clear: to eliminate internal resistance to Mnangagwa’s continued rule and neutralize potential threats—including Chiwenga and Retired Lieutenant General Engelbert Rugeje. One attendee reportedly volunteered to “carry out the task,” referencing a prior failed operation targeting Rugeje, where gunfire erupted but the former general was absent from the property.

The Precabe meeting followed a tense session in Borrowdale, where the newly installed army commander reportedly warned that if Chiwenga were removed, “the barracks will be hot to touch,” and even he, the commander, might not be able to enter. The statement was viewed as a stark reminder of Chiwenga’s lingering grip on the military.

Ziyambi, meanwhile, has privately dismissed any suggestion that Chiwenga remains in line to succeed Mnangagwa. In a WhatsApp exchange with ZimEye, he shot back at claims the VP was being groomed for 2028: “Who said he cannot be elected in 2030?”—a loaded statement widely interpreted as confirmation that Chiwenga has been politically iced out.

Inside sources close to Auxillia Mnangagwa say she’s grown increasingly wary of Chiwenga’s ambitions and has aligned herself with efforts to extend ED’s rule beyond 2028. Ziyambi reportedly cited a resolution “launched last year at Precabe by Shamu and Tshabangu in ED’s presence” that laid the groundwork for Mnangagwa’s prolonged stay in power, bypassing any VP-led transition.

The meeting reportedly turned theatrical when Mfanha Mutamba declared, “Shefu, if you want me to go arrest him (Chiwenga), I can do it,” underscoring the volatile nature of the political climate and the raw loyalty driving these confrontations.

While Chiwenga has remained publicly silent, insiders suggest he is consolidating support within the military and war veterans. A Zimbabwean artisanal miner lost his life in a tragic incident at the Chinese-owned Sino Africa Huijin mine in Premier Estate, Old Mutare, on Wednesday night. The security guards allegedly shot the miner three times in the face, prompting widespread condemnation.

Farai Maguwu, Director of the Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG), expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as a clear case of homicide. Maguwu questioned the legitimacy of the guards’ actions, citing a lack of self-defense and clear intent to kill.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have launched an investigation into the allegations, assuring the public that full details will be released soon. However, concerns have been raised over the police’s alleged acceptance of fuel from the Chinese compound, sparking questions about potential bias in the investigation.

The incident has sparked violent protests in the community, with locals demanding justice for the victim and accountability from the mining company. The CNRG is calling for a thorough investigation, a forensic audit of the mine’s finances, and the deportation of the Chinese operators.
