Filmmaker Exonerates Job Sikhala, Says Video Evidence Is Just A “Combining Of Nuisance”

Renowned filmmaker and producer, Olaf Koschke has testified in opposition lawmaker Job Sikhala’s trial saying video evidence produced by the State was manipulated.

The CCC MP is accused of disturbing police investigations by demanding justice for slain opposition activist, Moreblessing Ali.

Koschke who has over 40 years’ experience in video editing was testifying during the defence case which was closed on Monday.

Koschke is currently lecturing at UNESCO having previously worked for EBTV and Feedback Films in Berlin.

Led by Sikhala’s lawyer, Harrison Nkomo, the filmmaker said before digging into the video, the fact that it is watermarked shows it was edited.

Nkomo asked him, “You spoke about making a video with type footage that you would have gotten from the filming crew. Can you say this is the original video?”

He replied, “This video has a watermark so that means it went through a computer before it was played. It can’t be the original because it has a watermark.”

Koschke further explained, “It’s a combination of pictures and sound and watermark and we don’t know if they (State) were there when it was filmed.

“You cannot rely on videos that you download on YouTube. You need to rely on witnesses who were there at the time that it was filmed.”

He added it cannot be confirmed if the person in the video was really Sikhala.

“It could be a lookalike. It’s not easy to find someone who resembles the accused but it would be very easy to change the speech. If I had a Hollywood studio I could easily change it. It’s a bit of work to have the speech synchronised to the figure but it’s possible.”

Defence lawyers produced a video which Koschke had edited from the video tendered by the State.

He then explained how he had managed to play around with wording, confirming that a YouTube video can be edited.

“I changed the wording of the speech with other words of the speech and videos I have gotten from the Internet. I replaced the wording ‘kunoku neZanu PF’ with ‘kuno kuChitungwiza’.

“On 5 minutes 30 seconds of the video I replaced ‘kuZanu-pf’ with ‘kuno KuNyatsime.’

“On 5 minutes 37 seconds I replaced ‘killing’ with ‘knowing’.

“Anyone can download a video if you have a connection. You can upload if you have a YouTube channel. Video can be manipulated,” he said.

Appearing for the State, Oscar Madume during cross examination demanded forensic evidence to confirm that the video had been edited.

“The video on YouTube is 30 frames per second. It could even not be the one that came from the camera because the cameras in Zimbabwe are 25 frames per second. I used Final cap draw on an old Apple laptop,” he said.

“Are you 100% sure that the video was edited,” Madume asked.

“It went through the computer. That’s why there is a watermark. The images were edited because there is a watermark at the bottom,” he said.

The defence then closed its case.

Judgement will be handed down on April 28 at 2pm.

Nomination Of Candidates Starts Wednesday

By A Correspondent- leader, Nelson Chamisa has said the nomination of candidates kicks off on Wednesday the 5th of April 2023.

He said the selection process is citizen-centric amid criticism that the party’s leadership intends to handpick its representatives in the harmonised elections scheduled for later this year.

This comes as its main rival, the ruling ZANU PF party, is currently polishing up its primary elections process after conducting the internal plebiscite last week.

Chamisa said the CCC is abandoning the “old fashioned” primary election candidate selection approach in favour of a system anchored on citizens’ consensus.

He told NewZimbabwe.com on Sunday that the selection process is called citizenocratic. Chamisa said:

It is a brand new candidate selection process; it’s fresh.

It’s novel and it’s modern and places the citizen at the centre of the process. Citizenocracy is government by the citizens. It’s a citizenocratic selection process.

Citizens want candidates to be selected on merit, integrity, dignity, suitability and accountability. Citizens prefer representatives who are visible, accessible and available.

Those leaders who regularly report back to constituencies and communities to get instructions and progress on policies and national priorities of public interest.

All these are going to be considered through a rigorous vetting panel that looks at these critical tests.

In the event that we have more candidates nominated, citizens caucuses are convened. A citizen caucus is constituted by those who have subscribed to citizen philosophy and ideology in the constituency or in a particular ward.

The process also involves wide consultation with stakeholders in that particular constituency or ward.

Chamisa said the new process is also going to be complemented by the introduction of  Townhall Debates on policy issues as well as Constituency Citizens Debates which are a first of its kind.

He said the Democratic Community Consensus System involves a panel of independent citizens who will oversee the selection of candidates for the community. The citizens will question the nominees through a process called “manifesto pitching,” and then democratically select their candidates through consensus.

When asked about who will lead the programs in the absence of party structures, he replied that citizens are the structures across the country, which is the strongest structure.

He also said that there are safeguards in place to ensure citizens’ safe participation, including internal systems and external structures such as the police, despite reports of disruption of meetings by ruling party supporters.

Chamisa added that the nomination of CCC candidates starts on Wednesday, and it’s different from other parties because they don’t require a CV. Instead, they look at a person’s contributions to the community as their qualification for nomination.

The CCC is looking for people who are loyal to the country, the people or constituency, and God. These are the three attributes they are considering for nomination.

Teachers4ED Demand Money From Teachers, Schools

By A Correspondent- Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has accused a Zanu-PF shadowy group Teachers for Economic Development (ED) for demanding money from teachers and schools to fund its workshops, believed to be campaigns for the ruling party.

ARTUZ said the grouping is forcing teachers and schools to cough up US$10 AND US$500.

Teachers4ED is one of many parallel structures established last year ostensibly to support President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s candidacy for this year’s elections.

“War Vets Need Liberation”: Chinotimba

By A Correspondent- Outgoing Zanu-PF Buhera South MP, Joseph Chinotimba said war veterans needed to be liberated through a proportional representation in parliament.

This comes after most war veterans lost their posts within their respective political parties to a younger generation using money to elbow them out.

Chinotimba fell to Ngonidzashe Mudekunye in Buhera South primary elections.

Speaking during a parliamentary session, Chinotimba said war veterans are not yet liberated because the 20% quota for them has not been implemented,.

“Right now, there is a women’s quota in Parliament, youth quota in Parliament but the war veterans do not have a quota on anything. We just stay and if you want to become a Member of Parliament, you have to go and contest with others like Chinotimba when the war veterans are the ones who fought for this country.

“As far as I am concerned, the war veterans are not yet liberated because the 20% quota for them has not been implemented,” Chinotimba said.

Chinotimba landed in hot soup after he was captured on social media claiming that President Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to impose a candidate for Buhera constituency.

Chinhoyi Family Involved In Accident On Way To UFIC Service

By A Correspondent- A Chinhoyi family was also involved in an accident on Sunday while it was on its way to Harare for a church service at United Family International Church (UFIC).

It is alleged that the daughter who was driving a Honda Fit failed to negotiate a curve just after the Mapinga Great Dyke escarpment.

The accident claimed the life of the father on the spot leaving four other family members critical.

In another case, four Banket youths died in an accident that occurred on Sunday night near Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) fields, located a few kilometres from Chinhoyi. Three youths died on the scene while the other is said to have died at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the accident before referring questions to the National Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

The four, all from Banket, were coming from a popular drinking spot in Chinhoyi. The vehicle was engulfed in a ball of flames after colliding with a haulage truck.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident case which occurred at the 33km peg along Gweru-Zvishavane Road on the 1st of April 2023 at around 2100 hours. It is alleged that a 37-year-old man was hit by an unknown motorist and died on the spot. Police are appealing to members of the public with information on the case to approach any nearest Police station.

Road traffic accidents may be caused by poor road infrastructure, human error, poorly maintained vehicles, overloaded vehicles, unsafe pedestrian behaviour, lack of road safety education, poor enforcement of traffic laws, poor visibility, wildlife on the roads, and inadequate emergency response.

Authorities say human error, such as speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving, and failure to observe traffic laws, is the leading cause of road accidents in Zimbabwe. Both motorists and pedestrians have the responsibility of making roads safer.

Zimbabwe National Pulse: Churches unveil national milieu

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), an umbrella body that encompasses 26 Christian denominations in the country, has released a report on the national milieu based on research they undertook between November 2022 and January 2023.

The report, dubbed Zimbabwe National Pulse, employed a PESTLE analysis paradigm to appraise the political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental facets of the nation.

The research entailed data collation from 651 wards in 10 Zimbabwean provinces, where key informants such as ecclesiastical leaders, communal leaders, civil society protagonists and ordinary denizens were interrogated.

The report aims to proffer a comprehensive and balanced analysis of the current situation in Zimbabwe and to avail recommendations.

According to the report, 56% of the respondents deemed the political landscape to be propitious during the period, citing positive developments such as the constitutional amendment that curtailed presidential terms from two to one and augmented parliamentary oversight.

However, they also lamented several challenges including political violence, corruption, human rights transgressions and lack of dialogue among political actors.

Economically, the report noted that the cost of living has escalated and the economy is predominantly dominated by the informal sector, which accounts for more than 60% of employment.

Many people hinge on food aid due to the poor agricultural season in the previous year, which was imputed to climate change, high temperatures, dry spells and violent storms.

The report recommended that the government should implement policies that foster economic growth, diversification, formalization and social protection.

Socially, the report observed that Zimbabweans are resilient and resourceful people who cherish their culture, religion and family.

However, they also confront social problems such as poverty, inequality, unemployment, gender-based violence, child marriages and HIV/AIDS.

The report suggested that the government should invest more in education, health, water and sanitation and social welfare services.

However, the report also revealed that health services are considered unaffordable by many people, and 81% perceive health service delivery to be poor due to the mass exodus of health personnel to the UK.

Education is also unaffordable for many families and high school dropouts are common.

Technologically, the report acknowledged that Zimbabwe has made some headway in digitalization and innovation, especially in the areas of mobile money, e-commerce and e-government.

However, it also highlighted the challenges of limited internet access, affordability and reliability, as well as cybercrime and cyberbullying.

The report advised that the government should enhance its digital infrastructure, regulation and literacy.

Legally, the report commended Zimbabwe for having a progressive constitution that guarantees human rights and democracy.

However, it also pointed out the gaps between the law and its implementation, as well as the interference of political interests in the judiciary and law enforcement agencies.

The report urged that the government should respect the rule of law and ensure accountability and transparency.

Environmentally, the report recognized that Zimbabwe is endowed with rich natural resources such as land, water, minerals and wildlife.

However, it also warned that these resources are under threat from climate change, deforestation, land degradation, pollution and poaching.

The report appealed that the government should adopt sustainable environmental management practices and policies.

The ZCC said that it hopes that the Zimbabwe National Pulse report will serve as a tool for dialogue and action among various stakeholders in Zimbabwe.

The ZCC also said that it will continue to monitor the situation in Zimbabwe and to provide pastoral care and a prophetic voice for its member churches and communities.

Reverend W Dimingu, the General Secretary of ZCC, said:

“We hope that the broader church, citizenry and various state and non-state actors, as well as development partners, as well as development partners, will find value in the report and ZCC is committed to working with them towards a just, peaceful, united and prosperous society.”

Zebra Kiss Driver Jailed

By A Correspondent- Zebra Kiss driver, Mika Makwara, has been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment over the Harare-Nyamapanda highway accident which occurred in January this year.

Makwara’s driver’s licence was also cancelled.

Misheck Penyai who was driving the Rimbi Travel and Tours bus will be in court this Tuesday for sentencing.

Some context:

In video clips that went viral in January, two buses, Rimbi Travel and Tours and Zebra Kiss, were racing each other. The Rimbi crew was filming the race, trying to gather evidence of the recklessness of the Zebra Kiss driver, which they were trying to overtake.

Despite complaints from passengers about the speed and circumstances, the race continued. The buses were driving very close to each other at a significant speed, attempting to stay in front of each other.

When the lead bus overtook a stationary vehicle, the second bus could not react quickly enough to avoid hitting the vehicle, resulting in an accident that killed one person and injured several others.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona, immediately suspended the licenses of Zebra Kiss and Rimbi Travel & Tours following the accident.

In Zimbabwe, the speed limit for public service and heavy vehicles on wide tar roads is 80km per hour. But buses that travel between cities and towns often go at speeds of around 120km per hour, which is the speed limit for small vehicles.

Unfortunately, due to reckless driving, bus accidents are frequent in the country, with at least one fatal accident every other month.

Gvt To Patch Potholes

By A Correspondent- The transport ministry says it plans to engage contractors to work on potholes which have rendered most public roads impassable.

In a statement, Transport minister Felix Mhona said: “As a ministry, we remain committed to redressing these defects to ensure your safety on our roads and increase the number of kilometres of road network that is in good condition.

“Please note that the ministry is in the process of procuring contractors to attend to these works.”

Mhona last week told legislators that the delays in road rehabilitation was caused by heavy rains experienced in the country.

“With the advent of heavy rains, there was a slowdown to the rehabilitation of roads, and I want to assure you that we have prioritised roads per each province so that we embark and resume the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).”

“We have started with a number of roads so that we move with speed to reconstruct them. You will be seeing us also doing pothole patching, and in some cases reconstructing roads,” Mhona said.

In 2021, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a state of national disaster on the country’s roads.  ERRP was then launched, followed by Statutory Instrument (SI) 47 of 2021, which empowered the Transport ministry to authorise the Zimbabwe National Road Administration to source funding for road rehabilitation.

Under ERRP, government targeted to rehabilitate 10  000 kilometres of roads countrywide, but the majority of the targeted roads remain in poor state.

ZEC In Spotlight Over Voters’ Mobile Numbers Leak To Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has come under fire for allegedly leaking voters’ mobile numbers to the ruling Zanu-PF party, which is now using the numbers to solicit for votes using short message service (SMS).

Electoral watchdogs have questioned how Zanu-PF accessed phone numbers of registered voters after the ruling party started broadcasting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s campaign messages ahead of the 2023 polls.

The unsolicited text messages being sent specifically state the constituency one would cast their votes at.

This is not the first time Zec  has been accused of allegedly leaking voters’ mobile phone numbers  to Zanu-PF, giving the ruling party an unfair advantage  over the opposition. In the run-up to the 2018 harmonised elections, Zec was accused of leaking the electorate’s phone numbers to the ruling Zanu-PF party, which were used to send campaign messages to the electorate.

Zimbabwe will hold harmonised elections either in July or August.

One of the messages, written in Shona, and if translated to English, reads:  “Greetings. This is my WhatsApp number for Hatfield. Keep it in your mobile phone and inform other Hatfield residents. I will be keeping you updated through my WhatsApp status, what the government is doing to build our nation in Hatfield. Thank you. Yours, President ED Mnagagwa.”

Zec deputy chairperson Rodney Simukai Kiwa denied claims that the electoral body had availed a voters roll with phone numbers of voters to Zanu-PF.

“That’s not true. We are not aware,” Kiwa said. No comment could be obtained from Zanu-PF as both the party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa and political commissar Mike Bimha were not picking up calls yesterday.

But electoral watchdogs demanded an explanation from Zec on how Zanu-PF accessed voters’ mobile phone numbers.

“While political parties can canvas for votes through various channels, the underlying concerns around unsolicited text messages from political parties is where they got the voters’ information from,” Election Resource Centre legal and advocacy officer Takunda Tsunga said.

“If there has been involvement of the electoral commission in providing citizens information, then this goes to the fundamentals of free and fair elections, whereby one party is advantaged over others.  Zec must clarify.”

Data analysts Team Pachedu also called for legal action against Zec for allegedly leaking the roll with voters’ phone numbers to Zanu-PF.

“Zec has illegally leaked the new voters roll with phone numbers to Zanu-PF.  Voters are now receiving unsolicited Zanu-PF messages including those in new constituencies. The Data Protection Act and multiple laws have been violated.

We demand an explanation! Zec must be sued for violating the Data Protection Act by sharing phone records with Zanu-PF. Econet and NetOne must also be sued for illegally facilitating unsolicited bulk SMSs for Zanu-PF. Zec and Zanu-PF must not be allowed to break our laws wantonly,” said Team pachedu.

Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network chairperson Andrew Makoni said: “The issue raises questions on compliance with the Data Protection Act. The question is where they got the phone numbers for them to be able to send voters messages?

They must be clear on what database they use for them to be able to access the phone numbers. The problem is on unsolicited consent to send the messages. There is no option for the receiver to opt out and stop receiving the messages.

It is up to individuals to deal with the case if they are not comfortable with receiving the messages.”

Police Probe ZIMRA Official Death

BEITBRIDGE Police are investigating the death of a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) cashier whose body with multiple stab wounds was found dumped along the Beitbridge-Harare highway near a fast foods outlet and a bar.

The body had bruises consistent with a struggle before his death, but there was little blood where it was found, suggesting he may have been murdered elsewhere and dumped at that spot.

The officer commanding Beitbridge Police District Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed the death and that the deceased was a Zimra officer.

“Our team went out to attend and we have heard the deceased was a Zimra cashier. We are now investigating where he was hanging out and in whose company,” he said in a brief interview.

The deceased’s remains have since been taken to Beitbridge Hospital.

Beitbridge residents have reacted angrily and blame the police and the Beitbridge Municipality for lack of patrols and non-development of the area, a prime part of the border town.

The spot where the body was found lies adjacent to a 24-hour fast foods outlet, a night club and the popular events arena called PaGomba.

“Our local authority has for some reason not been allocating stands to people wishing to develop that area which by now should be built up. Many incidences have been reported about the dangers lurking in that area, but there is very little police visibility,” a resident said on a chat group that extensively discussed the incident.

“Police concentrate their patrols in the border post area because of the possibilities of financial gains, but the crime rate at that spot near the hiking area is troubling. Our local authority should also light up the area,” an aspiring councillor, Boyd Maposa said. – NewsDay

Chitungwiza High Court Case Reversed

The Supreme Court last week overturned a High Court judgement, which had ordered Delatfin Investments to release earthmoving machines it took from Chitungwiza Municipality after the council had contracted the company to repair the equipment.
Court papers clearly states that Chitungwiza Municipality had submitted the 2007 agreement between them and Delatfin were they would repair the machines and cover the costs with an agreed rental fee.

The Municipality went on to accuse Delatfin of overturning the agreement after receiving the council equipment and demanded US$265 640 as costs.

However Delatfin admitted that there was a written agreement of hire between the parties but on the terms that they will repair the Municipality’s vehicles, machine plants and equipment, they will pay Delatfin’s bills for the repair costs by hiring equipment to the Delatfin.

Delatfin also claimed it repaired the Municipality’s equipment and raised a bill for US$281 840.00 with only US$16 200.00 being paid by the Municipality.

The Chitungwiza Municipality however relied on Audit Manager witness Admire Chipunza who confirmed the contracts and he referred the memorandum of understanding for use on earthmoving machines.

He stated that the agreement expired and was supposed to return the equipment. The witness further denied that they had to pay Delatfin saying their money for repair was to be set off by hiring the equipment.

The witness was however, not privy to the agreement as he was not directly involved.

Delatfin Chief Executive Officer Felix Munyaradzi told the court that Chitungwiza Municipality was willing to get their equipment repaired, but they had no money to pay for the repairs.

The businessman told the court that they were then shown a number of broken down equipment from the workshop.

The witness said in one of the meetings they inquired with Municipality how they were to proceed with agreement given they wanted the return of the serviced equipment and it was at that meeting that Chitungwiza then undertook to pay Delatfin’s bills for repair costs as a departure from the original agreement.

Munyaradzi submitted that he accepted the terms it was on the basis of the new agreement that he wrote a letter on 17 August 2007 asking Chitungwiza to settle their bill of US$281 840 and they made part payment of US$16000 leaving a balance of US$265 640 which forms the basis of the defendant’s counter claim.

However, in his ruling, Justice Jacob Manzunzu said Delatfin cannot hold back onto Chitungwiza Municipality’s property without instituting proceedings for recovery.

“The defendant be and is hereby ordered to return to the plaintiff forthwith, front-end loader: registration number 511-631, grader champion: Registration number 688-808D, bull dozer D4: Registration number 395-551W, bull dozer D7: Registration number 688-488F and bull dozer Slewa D6,” Justice Manzunzu’s judgment read.

Aggrieved by Justice Manzunzu’s judgement, Delatfin approached the Supreme Court bench led by Justice Tendai Uchena, Justice George Chiweshe and Justice Chitakunye, who allowed the appeal and set aside the High Court judgement.

The three judges after reading the documents ruled that: “It is ordered that the appeal be and is hereby allowed with costs.”

“The judgement of the court is set aside and substituted by the following: “The plaintiff’s claim be and is hereby dismissed with costs.”-state media

Mnangagwa Sets Conditions For Observation Of Polls

ZIMBABWE will not be dictated to on who to invite to observe its elections and, in future, only those countries that invite Harare to observe their own elections will be invited in return, President Mnangagwa has said.

Writing in his weekly column in The Sunday Mail yesterday, President Mnangagwa said countries go to their elections as sovereign nations, and indeed as State parties of the United Nations whose Charter makes all nations equal, regardless of size and age.

He said State parties relate to each other on equal terms, with respect, and strictly on the basis and principle of reciprocity.

Zimbabwe will hold harmonised elections between July 26 and August 26 with President Mnangagwa expected to proclaim the poll date soon.

“Going forward, and as a country and nation which is proudly African and sovereign, we shall be insisting on the principle of reciprocity when it comes to the practice of international election observation.

“The time will soon come when we will not accept that condescending and even racist view of a pecking order when it comes to measuring electoral democracy unfolding in our sovereign countries, and which, in any event, is meant for our people,” President Mnangagwa said.

He downplayed the issue of a pecking order with on one side “white super dogs” who must observe elections of lesser beings, and on the other black underdogs whose polls must be observed, passed or failed.

“Nothing about our chequered colonial history justifies that false hierarchy; nothing in present international rules legitimises that presumptuous supremacy.

“Much worse, we reject as utterly racist and condescending this practice of making our proud and sovereign nation an equal if not a junior of some Western non-governmental centre, institute or foundation. We are no one’s subaltern, least of all of some non-governmental organisation. Never again will we subject ourselves to such false, humiliating equivalences.”

An analyst Dr Augustine Tirivangana said the President’s view was a perfect position which carried a moral obligation challenging the whole of Africa to wake up to the reality of the day.

“If Western countries do not invite us to cover their elections they have no moral duty to come and supervise ours. Even when they apply they have no moral obligation to come as Zimbabwe is a sovereign nation.

“Every country has a duty to respect other countries. If America doesn’t invite us to cover their elections, they have no moral obligation to do so,” he said.

Another analyst Mr Gibson Nyikadzino hailed President Mnangagwa for making a bold statement on election observers.

“Elections in Zimbabwe generate a lot of interest from other states, who in most cases have shown biases in a bid to try and influence the internal electoral outcomes. The President is therefore making a huge declaration on the importance of values in determining how states shape their political interactions,” he said.

Mr Nyikadzino said countries sharing the same values relate better.

“And the President is showing that his administration is one that believes in the doctrine of sovereignty and equality among states. This is being done in the interests of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Another analyst Mr Alex Munyonga said it is prudent for African countries to declare their sovereignty and diplomatic mutuality.

“Symmetrical diplomatic relations should be nourished and assymetrical hegemonic relations be withered. Elections in the developing world have attracted the attention of the global West mainly for the selfish benefit of such.

“It is worrying that African countries are rarely invited to actively observe electoral activities in those Western polls, but when it comes to Africa the West crazy up and salivate for participation,” he said.

South Africa-based political commentator, Mr Rutendo Matinyarare, said it sounds fair to only work with those who work well with the same reciprocity.

“We do not need their approval. The President’s decision proves that we don’t need the approval of our former colonisers, but we only need peer review from those peers who also invite us to monitor their own elections just so that there is a confirmation of independence and peer review.

“Outside that I very much support the fact that the President believes we don’t have to be monitored by other countries,” he said.

Meanwhile, writing in his Sunday Mail column, President Mnangagwa said the overwhelming response across all demographics to the recently held Zanu-PF primary elections foreshadows the ruling party’s landslide victory in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi recently announced that elections are scheduled between July 26 and August 26 this year, with the actual date to be set by the President in terms of his constitutional mandate.

“Well done Zanu-PF, the party of national liberation and national defence! After our party primaries, a strong sense of total loyalty and devotion to the party must prevail in all our structures, between and among all our members.

“We aim to deliver a thunderous victory which guarantees that we govern for another five years, while giving notice on more terms to come,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the huge turnout of voters was a clear signal that Zanu-PF remains the preferred party of choice nationwide as millions came out in support of their preferred candidates from a broad selection in which all demographics were represented.

“This was truly unprecedented, not only in our party’s long political and electoral history, but also in the history of party politics and internal political party processes in our country.

“History was made, and who else to blaze the new internal democratic trail than Zanu-PF, the sole party of national liberation?” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the massive, cross-cutting disciplined zeal exhibited during primary elections clearly showed that the party is well on the road to a resounding victory in the forthcoming elections.

“It demonstrated that we have solid structures with integrity on the ground; indeed, structures which carry and deliver our voters to the polls on election day.

“Above all, it shows a massive confidence in our party, principally in the policies and programmes which the party has pursued in the last five years, which we are about to close. Much has been achieved on the ground in communities, in districts, provinces and across our entire nation,” he said.

The President, who is Zanu-PF’s First Secretary and President, said the primary elections indeed proved without any doubt that it is a party of democracy.

“Our sights are set higher: to show the world and especially censorious countries of the West that Zimbabwe is a self-made African democracy. It owes its democracy to itself; it, therefore, does not need tutors or lessons in democracy delivered by those coming to us from afar.

“It is its own teacher, its own model, the sole guardian and guarantor of its own democratic processes and practices. Indeed, the writer of its own history in clean, democratic electoral praxis,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said what the Zanu-PF party primary elections have demonstrated and accomplished finds few equals, and certainly no better rivals in the country, or elsewhere in the world.

“Honest and fair-minded watchers of our recent internal democratic processes might be forgiven for thinking this was the real national election! In a way it is, given our dominant role in history, and in the contemporary politics of Zimbabwe and Africa,” he said.

The primary elections also cemented Zanu-PF’s status of being a peaceful party. “By and large, the elections proceeded smoothly, and in a spirit of admirable competitive camaraderie. No serious incidents were reported throughout the country, again confirming that our party has come of age, and practises the peace it routinely preaches.

“What we faced were small hitches of a logistical nature. These were understandable, and not serious enough to take away or diminish the integrity of the whole exercise,” he said.

The party also appealed across demographics.

“History also in another far-reaching sense. From start to finish, and in all areas, we saw a healthy balance and blend between mature and young cadres, between experience and growth, between professionals and businessmen and women; between men and women, all canvassing and vying for support to represent the party at different echelons, and in different communities.

“For us in leadership, much of this had been in evidence when, much earlier, our Politburo sat to consider the long, congested list of aspiring candidates, ahead of these historic party primaries,” he said.

The President said there was a clear blend of candidates.

“We were all struck by the preponderance of youthful cadres among the aspiring candidates, and the intensity of competition for any one level and seat. Only a handful of seats went uncontested.

“All these developments convinced us that the party has vastly improved on its national, inter-generational and demographic appeal, largely because of its forward looking, people, youth and gender focused policies,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said such a pleasant surprise gave the party a confidence that Zanu-PF is guaranteed to self-reproduce and is here to stay and forever to govern.- The Herald

Zimbabwe and its relationship with crypto companies on its territory

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country located in southern Africa with a population of approximately 15 million people. The country is known for its rich natural resources, including minerals such as gold, diamonds, and platinum, and a diverse agricultural sector. However, despite its vast potential, Zimbabwe’s economy has been struggling for years due to factors such as political instability, hyperinflation, and international sanctions. The country has been working to recover from its economic challenges, and recent years have seen increased efforts to attract foreign investment and diversify the economy.

In recent years, there has been growing interest in cryptocurrency in Zimbabwe. This interest is driven in part by the country’s economic challenges, as many Zimbabweans have turned to cryptocurrency as a way to store and transfer value outside of the traditional banking system. Additionally, the government’s relatively open approach to cryptocurrency has created an environment that is welcoming to crypto companies and investors.

This has led to a number of crypto-related businesses operating in Zimbabwe, including exchanges, wallets, and mining operations. As such, the cryptocurrency industry has emerged as a potential growth area for Zimbabwe’s struggling economy.

Zimbabwe’s stance on cryptocurrency

Zimbabwe’s government has taken a relatively open approach to cryptocurrency regulation, compared to some other countries in the region. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), the country’s central bank, issued a circular in 2018 that clarified its position on cryptocurrency. The circular acknowledged that cryptocurrency has potential benefits, such as promoting financial inclusion and reducing the cost of remittances. However, the RBZ also warned that cryptocurrencies are not legal tender in Zimbabwe and that investors should be cautious due to the high risk and volatility associated with these assets.

Despite this caution, the RBZ has allowed cryptocurrency exchanges to operate in the country. In 2020, the RBZ announced that it would start licensing cryptocurrency exchanges, in a move aimed at promoting innovation and investment in the sector. This regulatory approach has helped to create a supportive environment for crypto companies and investors in Zimbabwe.

Cryptocurrency is becoming increasingly accepted by businesses in Zimbabwe. This is partly due to the convenience and cost-effectiveness of using cryptocurrency for transactions, especially for cross-border payments. Some businesses in Zimbabwe are also beginning to offer cryptocurrency as a payment option for their goods and services. For example, in 2018, a local car dealer announced that it would start accepting bitcoin as payment for vehicles.

Moreover, some entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe have begun using cryptocurrency as a way to raise funds for their businesses, through initial coin offerings (ICOs). In 2018, a Zimbabwean entrepreneur launched a cryptocurrency called Zimbocash, which was designed to provide an alternative to the country’s struggling fiat currency. While the success of Zimbocash is yet to be seen, it represents the growing interest in using cryptocurrency as a tool for business innovation and growth in Zimbabwe.

Crypto companies in Zimbabwe

The cryptocurrency industry in Zimbabwe is still in its early stages, but it has shown signs of growth and potential. The industry includes a range of companies, including exchanges, wallets, mining operations, and remittance providers. Some of the key factors driving the growth of the cryptocurrency industry in Zimbabwe include the country’s relatively open regulatory environment, a growing interest in cryptocurrency among Zimbabweans, and the need for alternative financial solutions in the face of economic challenges.

There are a number of notable cryptocurrency companies operating in Zimbabwe. These include:

  • Golix: one of the first cryptocurrency exchanges to operate in Zimbabwe. Golix offers trading in bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies.
  • BitMari: a remittance service that allows Zimbabweans living abroad to send money home using bitcoin. BitMari was founded in the United States but has since expanded to Zimbabwe.
  • Styx24: a cryptocurrency mining operation based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Styx24 offers cloud mining services and claims to have the largest cryptocurrency mining farm in Africa.
  • Insureblocks: a blockchain-based insurance company that offers insurance policies for Zimbabweans using cryptocurrency.
  • Zimcoin: a cryptocurrency exchange that launched in 2018, which offers trading in bitcoin, ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies.

Operating a crypto company in Zimbabwe comes with both benefits and challenges. Some of the benefits of operating a crypto company in Zimbabwe include access to a growing market of cryptocurrency users, a relatively open regulatory environment, and a need for alternative financial solutions in the face of economic challenges.

However, there are also challenges to operating a crypto company in Zimbabwe. These include the risk of regulatory changes or crackdowns on cryptocurrency, the volatility of the cryptocurrency market, and the country’s limited technology infrastructure. Additionally, some companies may face difficulties accessing traditional banking services or funding, which can make it difficult to operate and grow their businesses.

Crypto casinos in Zimbabwe

The online gambling industry in Zimbabwe has been growing steadily in recent years, as more Zimbabweans gain access to the internet and mobile devices. While online gambling is not yet regulated in Zimbabwe, there are a number of local and international online casinos that operate in the country. These online casinos offer a range of games, including slots, table games, and sports betting.

In recent years, there has been a rise in the number of crypto casinos operating in Zimbabwe. These are online casinos that accept cryptocurrency, such as bitcoin (BTC), as a payment method. The business of BTC casinos is becoming increasingly popular in Zimbabwe due to the anonymity and convenience offered by cryptocurrency. Crypto casinos allow players to make deposits and withdrawals quickly and securely, without the need for traditional banking methods.

One of the benefits of crypto casinos is that they can offer a greater degree of privacy and security for players, as they do not require personal or financial information to be shared. This can be particularly important in Zimbabwe, where concerns about government surveillance and privacy are high.

Currently, there are no specific regulations governing the operation of crypto casinos in Zimbabwe. However, online gambling is generally prohibited in Zimbabwe under the Lotteries and Gaming Act. While the act does not specifically mention online gambling, it is widely interpreted to include online gambling.

Despite the lack of specific regulations, some crypto casinos operating in Zimbabwe have voluntarily adopted certain measures to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations. For example, some crypto casinos require players to provide proof of identity and age, and they may also be subject to anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) regulations.

Overall, the rise of crypto casinos in Zimbabwe represents an interesting development in the country’s online gambling industry. While there are regulatory challenges to be addressed, the growth of crypto casinos highlights the potential of cryptocurrency to offer new and innovative solutions to traditional industries.

Community adoption and education on cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency education programs have emerged in Zimbabwe as a way to promote awareness and understanding of this emerging technology. These programs aim to educate the general public on the basics of cryptocurrency, its potential benefits and risks, and how it can be used for financial transactions. Some organizations that offer cryptocurrency education in Zimbabwe include the Blockchain Association of Zimbabwe, the Women in Blockchain Foundation, and the Zimbabwe School of Blockchain.

Community adoption plays a critical role in the growth of cryptocurrency in Zimbabwe. As more people become familiar with cryptocurrency and its potential benefits, they are more likely to adopt it for their financial transactions. This can help to create a self-sustaining ecosystem for cryptocurrency in Zimbabwe, which can in turn attract more businesses and investors to the country.

Moreover, community adoption can help to create a more inclusive financial system in Zimbabwe. Cryptocurrency has the potential to offer financial services to those who are currently underserved by traditional banking systems, such as rural communities and low-income individuals.

One of the challenges of cryptocurrency education in Zimbabwe is the limited access to technology and the internet in some areas of the country. This can make it difficult for some individuals to participate in cryptocurrency education programs or to access cryptocurrency services.

However, there are also opportunities for cryptocurrency education to help address some of Zimbabwe’s economic challenges. For example, cryptocurrency education can help to promote financial literacy and entrepreneurship, and can encourage the development of new businesses and services in the cryptocurrency sector.

Comparison with other African countries

Zimbabwe’s cryptocurrency industry is still in its early stages, but it is growing rapidly. Compared to other African countries, such as Nigeria and South Africa, Zimbabwe’s cryptocurrency industry is smaller but has significant potential for growth. Nigeria, for example, is one of the largest cryptocurrency markets in Africa, with a vibrant ecosystem of crypto exchanges, wallets, and other services.

A number of African countries have experienced success in adopting cryptocurrency, such as Nigeria and Ghana, where cryptocurrency has helped to promote financial inclusion and provide new opportunities for entrepreneurship. However, there are also challenges associated with the adoption of cryptocurrency in Africa, including regulatory uncertainty, limited access to technology, and a lack of awareness and understanding among the general public.

Zimbabwe can learn from the experiences of other African countries that have successfully adopted cryptocurrency. Some of the key lessons include the importance of regulatory clarity and certainty, the need for strong cybersecurity measures to protect against fraud and hacking, and the role of education and awareness in promoting the adoption of cryptocurrency among the general public. Additionally, Zimbabwe can benefit from learning from the challenges faced by other African countries, such as the need to address issues of financial exclusion and limited access to technology.

Conclusion

Zimbabwe’s relationship with cryptocurrency and crypto companies has been relatively positive in recent years. The country’s relatively open regulatory approach to cryptocurrency has created an environment that is welcoming to crypto companies and investors. This has led to a number of crypto-related businesses operating in Zimbabwe, including exchanges, wallets, mining operations, and remittance providers. The rise of crypto casinos in Zimbabwe also represents an interesting development in the country’s online gambling industry. Additionally, community adoption and education programs have emerged to promote awareness and understanding of cryptocurrency in Zimbabwe.

The future outlook for cryptocurrency in Zimbabwe is positive. The cryptocurrency industry in Zimbabwe is still in its early stages, but it has significant potential for growth. The increasing acceptance of cryptocurrency by businesses and the general public in Zimbabwe, combined with the country’s relatively open regulatory environment, is expected to continue to drive the growth of the cryptocurrency industry in the coming years.

Additionally, as more Zimbabweans gain access to the internet and mobile devices, the potential for cryptocurrency to provide financial services to those who are currently underserved by traditional banking systems will continue to increase. While there are challenges associated with the adoption of cryptocurrency in Zimbabwe, such as regulatory uncertainty and limited access to technology, the opportunities presented by this emerging technology are significant and are expected to continue to drive its adoption and growth in Zimbabwe.

About Autism

Key facts
Autism – also referred to as autism spectrum disorder ̶ constitutes a diverse group of conditions related to development of the brain.
About 1 in 100 children has autism.
Characteristics may be detected in early childhood, but autism is often not diagnosed until much later.
The abilities and needs of autistic people vary and can evolve over time. While some people with autism can live independently, others have severe disabilities and require life-long care and support.
Evidence-based psychosocial interventions can improve communication and social skills, with a positive impact on the well-being and quality of life of both autistic people and their caregivers.
Care for people with autism needs to be accompanied by actions at community and societal levels for greater accessibility, inclusivity and support.
Overview
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a diverse group of conditions. They are characterized by some degree of difficulty with social interaction and communication. Other characteristics are atypical patterns of activities and behaviours, such as difficulty with transition from one activity to another, a focus on details and unusual reactions to sensations.

The abilities and needs of autistic people vary and can evolve over time. While some people with autism can live independently, others have severe disabilities and require life-long care and support. Autism often has an impact on education and employment opportunities. In addition, the demands on families providing care and support can be significant. Societal attitudes and the level of support provided by local and national authorities are important factors determining the quality of life of people with autism.

Characteristics of autism may be detected in early childhood, but autism is often not diagnosed until much later.

People with autism often have co-occurring conditions, including epilepsy, depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as challenging behaviours such as difficulty sleeping and self-injury. The level of intellectual functioning among autistic people varies widely, extending from profound impairment to superior levels.

Epidemiology

It is estimated that worldwide about 1 in 100 children has autism (1). This estimate represents an average figure, and reported prevalence varies substantially across studies. Some well-controlled studies have, however, reported figures that are substantially higher. The prevalence of autism in many low- and middle-income countries is unknown.

Causes
Available scientific evidence suggests that there are probably many factors that make a child more likely to have autism, including environmental and genetic factors.

Available epidemiological data conclude that there is no evidence of a causal association between measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, and autism. Previous studies suggesting a causal link were found to be filled with methodological flaws (2,3).

There is also no evidence to suggest that any other childhood vaccine may increase the risk of autism. Evidence reviews of the potential association between the preservative thiomersal and aluminium adjuvants contained in inactivated vaccines and the risk of autism strongly concluded that vaccines do not increase the risk of autism.

Assessment and care

A broad range of interventions, from early childhood and across the life span, can optimize the development, health, well-being and quality of life of autistic people. Timely access to early evidence-based psychosocial interventions can improve the ability of autistic children to communicate effectively and interact socially. The monitoring of child development as part of routine maternal and child health care is recommended.

It is important that, once autism has been diagnosed, children, adolescents and adults with autism and their carers are offered relevant information, services, referrals, and practical support, in accordance with their individual and evolving needs and preferences.

The health-care needs of people with autism are complex and require a range of integrated services, that include health promotion, care and rehabilitation. Collaboration between the health sector and other sectors, particularly education, employment and social care, is important.

Interventions for people with autism and other developmental disabilities need to be designed and delivered with the participation of people living with these conditions. Care needs to be accompanied by actions at community and societal levels for greater accessibility, inclusivity and support.

Mnangagwa Speaks On Polls

ZIMRA Official Brutally Killed

– NewsDay

Tafara Man Knives Wife To Death In Fierce Mjolo Dispute

A 34-year-old Old Tafara man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in the early hours of Saturday morning after accusing her of having an extramarital affair.

At around midnight, Ernest Musanza confronted his wife, Melody Musanza, 30, about a man he had spotted her with earlier in the day.
The two reportedly had a heated argument, and Melody stabbed Ernest with a knife.
Ernest grabbed the knife from her and repeatedly stabbed her on the neck and chest resulting in her death.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said Ernest was battling for his life under police guard at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
“Police arrested a man reported to have stabbed his wife to death following a domestic dispute,” said Insp Chakanza.
“On Friday afternoon, the accused person saw his wife walking around Tafara township with a man he suspected to be her boyfriend.
“He never confronted them and decided to ask her later at home. At around 11.30pm, the accused asked his wife what was going on between her and the man he spotted her with in the afternoon.
“A misunderstanding then ensued and tempers flared at around 1.30am resulting in the now deceased stabbing her husband in the rib cage with an okapi knife.
“The husband stabbed his wife several times with the same knife on the left side of her neck and in the chest,” said Insp Chakanza.
Melody managed to crawl out of the bedroom, leaving Ernest lying on the bed bleeding profusely.
Their 18-year-old maid was awakened by the commotion and saw Melody crawling out of the bedroom when she went to check.
The maid rushed to inform the neighbours, but when they returned, they found Melody’s lifeless body on the bed side, suggesting that she had crawled back into the bedroom.

Chamisa Sets Candidates’ Selection Dates

By-The leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change, Nelson Chamisa, has said the nomination of candidates kicks off on Wednesday the 5th of April 2023.

He said the selection process is citizen-centric amid criticism that the party’s leadership intends to handpick its representatives in the harmonised elections scheduled for later this year.

Chamisa said the his party was abandoning the old fashioned primary election candidate selection approach in favour of a system anchored on citizens’ consensus.

He said that the selection process is called citizenocratic.

Chinhoyi Family In Horror Crash Visiting Makandiwa Church

By-A Chinhoyi family was also involved in an accident on Sunday while it was on its way to Harare for a church service at United Family International Church (UFIC).

Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the accident before referring questions to the National Spokesperson, Paul Nyathi.

What Is Autism?

Shadaya Looks Like A “Twiza” Yet He Tries To Insult Gorgeous Serena Williams – Runya

By Showbiz Reporter | Controversial sociallite Shadaya Knight was at the weekend slapped down by Serena William’s husband after the Zimbabwean insulted him over his appearance.

@alexisohanian described @ShadayaKnight as (an incel) a lonely man who struggles to attract women and is continually hostile towards women.

Mnangagwa Bars Foreign Observers

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hinted at barring international election observers from monitoring the country’s upcoming general elections.

Zimbabwe is bracing for a crunch presidential election which, according to the minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, will be held between July 26 and August 26 this year.

In his weekly column in the state-controlled newspaper, The Sunday Mail, Mnangagwa revealed that his administration is considering a strict selection process for election observers.

The President said only those nations who invite Zimbabwe to observe their own elections in future will also be invited to do the same.

“Going forward, and as a country and Nation which is proudly African and sovereign, we shall be insisting on the principle of reciprocity when it comes to the practice of international election observation. The time will soon come when we will not accept that condescending and even racist view of a pecking order when it comes to measuring electoral democracy unfolding in our sovereign countries, and which, in any event, is meant for our people.

“A pecking order with white super-dogs who must observe elections of lesser beings, on the one side; and black underdogs whose polls must be observed, passed or failed, on the other.

“Nothing about our chequered colonial history justifies that false hierarchy; nothing in present international rules legitimises that presumptuous supremacy. The theory and practice of election observation must be on the basis of equality and reciprocity among nations. Anything less and one-sided diminishes and creates a deep sense of bruise and injury to our sovereignty.

Mnangagwa said he rejects as utterly racist and condescending the practice of making Zimbabwe an equal if not a junior of some Western non-governmental centre.

“Much worse, we reject as utterly racist and condescending this practice of making our proud and sovereign Nation an equal if not a junior of some Western non-governmental centre, institute or foundation. We are no one’s subaltern, least of all of some non-governmental organisation. Never again will we subject ourselves to such false, humiliating equivalences.

“We go to elections as sovereign nations, indeed as State Parties of the United Nations; its hallowed Charter makes all Nations equal, regardless of size and age, however these are reckoned or claimed. State Parties relate to each and to one another on equal terms, with respect, and strictly on the basis and principle of reciprocity. Going forward, only those Nations who invite us to observe their own elections in future will also be invited to do the same here.

The Basic Concepts Of Mining

Steps to starting from zero in the mining sector.

Just like every industry mining has zero beginning where you begin with absolute nothing or with little amounts of less than 100usd .

By nature mining is a very high expenditure business thousands of united States dollars are needed to run a successful mining business sometimes with no returns .

We are going to take you through a short but powerful account of how to begin at zero step by step .

Step 1
Be interested in mining stories read and listen to as many mining stories in detail asking keen and clear questions.

Artisanal miners have a lot of stories to tell each story has a specific detail that is clue to how you can start from zero . By this way you will be informally introducing yourself to it .
Befriend someone in mining.

Deliberately choose a friend who regularly goes to the mine be very close friend. By so doing you receive mining updates and stories for free . You will learn mining terms risks and rewards fast .

3 visit the mines regularly.
Now that you have a friend visit the mines with him regularly to assess the situation and listen to more mining stories from others stay there for a long time sometimes even 12hrs or two days continuously.
4 identify areas of need within your friend’s network.

At this stage visit with a secret book identify needs that would let you in . The easiest is food just buy relish for them for free and start asking direct question how can you be of help .

NB don’t over promise or over commit yourself if you don’t yet understand the risky .

Pause : mining is so risky and ugly the losses are fatal we have lost money huge amounts never to receive it back don’t let the “reward stories ” force you to sell valuable property or use school fees for your kids to invest these “reward stories are structured to lure you .
Lists of free entry points no cent just you .

1 use your own hands join the team with intention of raising money to invest back for those working join night shift before list what you want to do with the money . Below are inputs and values
A box of explosives sets 330usd
A drum of diesel market price
A compressor set 2000usd
Pegging a mine 3000usd.
Never mind the amount using your hands increases the chances of high returns .
2 link with an investor with huge financial muscles and get double share .
3 identify and bring an expert who improve production
Low income entry points in values
1 food and lighting 100usd
50kg mealie
Cooking oil 5litres
Salt
Relish
Torches
Rare cheap entry points
Buying food during milling of ore 400rands or less

At this time you have a vision what you want to do this is a list of what you can permanently do
1 be food and relish provider for as many teams as you can .
2 provide transport for life
3 provide explosives and diesel
4 provide compressor or diesel powered windlass

“Safe Constituencies” Move Backfires For Zanu PF Heavyweights

By A Correspondent- Attempts to settle for “safe constituencies” have backfired on several Zanu-PF party primary election candidates who contested away from their original areas.

Under the Zanu-PF party constitution, a person can transfer to any constituency of their choice as long as they get their name transferred to the new district and register there as a voter.

For years, several Zanu-PF senior members have used this provision to find “safe constituencies” where the competition will not be stiff. Most of such constituencies are in rural areas.

However, during the just ended disputed primary elections, several bigwigs fell by the wayside as voters decided to vote for locals.

Former deputy finance minister Terence Mukupe had sought to represent the party as a National Assembly candidate for Hurungwe North constituency after constantly suffering losses from opposition leader Tendai Biti in Harare East.

However, an underdog Pax Muringazuva, who is a farmer in the area, won the ticket to represent Zanu-PF in the general elections slated for July or August this year.

President Emerson Mnangagwa is yet to proclaim official election dates.

“We lost to Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) and not Pax (Muringazuva), but let’s wait and see,” Mukupe posted on a constituency development WhatsApp group.

FAZ is a shadowy Zanu-PF intelligence group which was running the party primary elections.

After suffering constant defeats from his arch nemesis Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe in Mazowe South, prominent businessman Tafadzwa Musarara this time chose to contest in Mazowe North where he was facing the incumbent Campion Mugweni and little known Tsungi Makumbe.

The youthful Makumbe, who resides in the area, beat Musarara and the sitting legislator Mugweni. After realising that he has been beaten, Musarara wrote a letter purportedly withdrawing from the race.

In a letter addressed to the Mazowe North presiding officer, Musarara said he tendered his withdrawal due to gross irregularities that occurred in the constituency during the primary elections.

“I hereby tender my withdrawal from the above-mentioned primary elections due to gross irregularities,” reads part of the letter. “I remain a committed cadre of the ruling Zanu-PF.”

Mashonaland West provincial minister Mary Mliswa, who is originally from Shurungwi, lost to Chinjayi Kambuzuma in a bid to represent the ruling Zanu-PF party in the Hurungwe West constituency.

Kambuzuma is former campaign manager to Temba Mliswa (Norton Independent MP) and Mary Mliswa. Kambuzuma had reportedly used her political connections with the grassroots to win.

“I am a daughter of Hurungwe, I resonate with the people’s aspirations because I was born and bred here,” he said.

Deputy Information and Publicity minister Kindness Paradza, who hails from Masvingo province also lost his seat in Makonde, Mashonaland West.

Witwatersrand University based political analyst Romeo Chasara said political trends in Zanu-PF are now shifting.

“Gone are the days when politicians would just wake up and choose a constituency to represent through vote buying. Voters are now clever and they are selecting locals who resonate with their plights and aspirations to represent them. Voters are becoming politically literate,” Chasara said.

“Abducted” Gokwe Girl Found

By A Correspondent- A 16 year old girl from Gokwe who was allegedly abducted by suspected ZANU PF supporters was dumped in Kadoma.

Chairmaine Chiremba, a learner at Njelele High School, was kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday according to her father Christopher.

Christopher told the Southern Eye that Chairmaine was at Kadoma Police Station. He said:

I am currently getting information that she is housed at Kadoma police and is safe.

She was dumped along the highway by a black (Toyota) Wish car with no number plates.

She is still in custody at Kadoma Police Station and they said they are making arrangements to ferry her to Gokwe centre.
He said they realised Charmaine was missing when her mother went to wake her up to prepare for school.
Her mother found blood stains on the veranda of their bedroom and a note written ‘usivhotela ZANU PF mwana tatora’.

The note was written in a Shona dialect spoken in Gokwe, translated to “you should vote for ZANU PF, we have taken the child”.

Chiremba suspects his child was targeted because, in 2013, his wife contested for councillor under the MDC-T banner and lost. He added:

Ever since then, we have stayed away from politics. We even voted in the recent ZANU PF primary elections. I am not sure why they would target my family.

Man Robbed Of US$41k Cash

By A Correspondent- A 33 year old man was robbed of US$41 000 cash by three unknown men who had offered him a lift to Borrowdale, Harare.

Police said the victim’s kombi broke down near 6th Avenue and Borrowdale Road and he decided to hitchhike to complete his journey.

The robbers allegedly dumped the man near Mukuvisi Woodlands in Rhodesville, Harare and unfortunately, he could not capture the vehicle’s registration numbers.

A statement released by the police on Saturday morning, however, did not state when the alleged robbery case occurred. It said:

The ZRP is investigating a robbery case where a man (33), who had his Nissan Caravan broken down near 6th Avenue and Borrowdale Road, was offered a lift to Borrowdale by three unknown male adults who were travelling in a white Honda Fit vehicle, registration number not captured.

Along the way, the suspects diverted the root and robbed the complainant of US$41 000 cash, a cellphone, and a wallet with identification particulars before dumping him near Mukuvisi woodlands in Rhodesville.

Police have repeatedly urged members of the public to desist from boarding mushikashika vehicles and use buses for their safety.

ZRP Harare Metropolitan Province spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza recently told ZBC News that mushikashika has resulted in an increase in reports of rape and robberies.

City Park Supervisors In Soup Over Bribe

By A Correspondent- Two City of Harare parking supervisors were on Friday arraigned before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro for allegedly bribing a motorist.

The duo, Bertha Gondo and Gabriel Mukoka were remanded to today for bail application.

Allegations are that on March 30 this year at about 1330 hours, the complainant parked his vehicle along Mbuya Nehanda Street and paid for one hour parking. He allegedly came back after an hour and found his vehicle clamped on the right front wheel.

Easy Park officials whom he had paid for parking then referred him to the two accused persons who indicated that his vehicle had been clamped for violating parking regulations. They said he had straddled the white line on the parking bay.

They then demanded US$20 to unclamp his vehicle. The complainant was joined by Varaidzo Mahachi, a friend who also pleaded with the accused for mercy.

The two insisted that they wanted the money.

Realising that the two accused persons were unrelenting, Mahachi offered them US$5, which the accused persons accepted and unclamped the vehicle.

Gondo received the money while Mukoka unclamped the vehicle.  Unbeknown to the duo, all these activities were under the watchful eyes of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission officers who immediately pounced on them and arrested them for engaging in corrupt activities.

The US$5 was seized and a certificate of seizure was issued to Gondo.

ED Gvt Red flagged Over Corruption

THE United States has described Zimbabwe’s human rights situation as dire.

Zimbabwe is still plagued by unlawful and arbitrary killings, while citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of association are constantly violated, the US has noted.

In a report titled Zimbabwe 2022 Human Rights Report, the US said: “Numerous factors contributed to a flawed election process in 2018, including the Zimbabwe Election Commission (Zec)’s lack of independence; heavily biased State media favouring the ruling party, voter intimidation, the unconstitutional influence of tribal leaders, failure to provide an electronic preliminary voters roll, the politicisation of food aid, security services’ excessive use of force and lack of transparency concerning election results.”

The report said the country’s prison conditions were harsh and life-threatening due to overcrowding, food shortages, lack of water, lice infestations, shortage of linen, physical mistreatment of prisoners and lack of access to personal hygiene products, as well as inadequate sanitary conditions and medical care.

“Police continued to press criminal charges against street vendors arrested under selectively enforced COVID-19 safety regulations.  Human rights NGOs reported street vendors in urban areas were often targets of arbitrary arrest and allegations of operating illegal businesses. The law absolves individual security agents from criminal liability regarding unlawful arrests and detention,” the report said.

The report also said there were restrictions on individuals criticising the government or discussing matters of public interest.

“Authorities were sensitive to criticism in general, particularly when directed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa or his family. Persons accused of insulting the President and his office can be charged under a law that makes undermining the authority of, or insulting President criminal acts.”

On freedom of peaceful assembly, the report said: “Rallies in support of the ruling party were generally unimpeded, as were religious assemblies by groups seen as loyal to the ruling party. Meanwhile, opposition members, unions, civil society activists, pastors perceived to be aligned with the opposition, and street vendors often faced arrests, and in some cases police violence.”

The report also red-flagged government’s failure to effectively deal with corruption.

“The anti-corruption courts often displayed political bias and were assigned cases involving activists, journalists, or opposition leaders even though the cases did not relate to corruption.  In fact, the establishment of the courts specified they would adjudicate on matters including ‘criminal trials and other matters arising out of, or connected with criminal trials’.  Independent governmental

oversight entities were often constrained politically, and the government ensured they lacked the funding and staffing to carry out their mandates,” said the report.

Efforts to get a comment from Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Justice secretary Virginia Mabhiza and Information and Publicity ministry officials were fruitless yesterday

Residents Breathe Fire Over Luveve Road

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo residents have urged the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to speed up rehabilitation of Luveve Road which has taken ages to complete despite promises that the project would take 90 days.

Residents are now demanding to know what has stalled the project.

BCC began rehabilitating part of Luveve Road between Matshobane and Mpopoma last year after it became impassable due to potholes.

One resident, Sbongiseni Moyo said: “The road was supposed to be completed a long time ago. We would at least like to know when it will be completed. People in high places are probably converting the money for the road to their own use.”

Another resident who preferred anonymity said: “Maybe they are now digging gold on the road while we keep expecting that the project will be completed. The road has taken too long to complete. To me it looks like they just put those barricades to make it look like they are doing something big.”

Town clerk Christopher Dube said about $700 million is needed to rehabilitate roads in the city, with Luveve high-density suburb having the worst roads.

“If only everyone in the city paid bills on time: Even half of the residents, then they would have nothing to cry about,” Dube said.

Early this year, BCC said some good progress had been made on the Luveve-Matshobane Road.

“Construction works to date include base preparation and final compaction of bases to complete earthworks,” council said.

Initially, council said it would spend US$1,2 million for the project.

7 Splitgate Tips You Need to Learn Right Now!

Splitgate combines some Quake III Arena features with a few mechanics from the portal to dish a perfect hybrid version of the two games. As a free-to-play multiplayer game, Splitgate can trap you in your seat for hours with excitement and thrills.

Splitgate is quite tricky to win if you’re not familiar with how things work. So, we’ll share some tips you must learn to enjoy Splitgate. Also, if it’s your first time in Splitgate or you want to level up your skills, buy the best Splitgate hacks.

Tips to Learn Now

Check out some tips you should learn right now!

1.    Portals Offer Diverse Use Cases

Using portals in Splitgate goes beyond travel purposes. You can use portals for spy attacks, CCTV monitors, and more. In Splitgate, gold and purple are the two portals you can use on the holographic panels. When you place your portals appropriately, you can travel across the walls. However, you must know the difference between enemy portals and your team’s portals.

Red portals are for the enemies, and they’re usually traps. But a smart player can take advantage of them against enemies. The blue portals are for your squad. You can access the portals with ease.

2.    Closing portals with grenades

In Splitgate, grenades serve not only as explosives but as ideal EMPs to abolish the enemies’ portals. You can destroy the enemy’s escape route with your grenades or trap him in the portal.

Let’s assume an enemy is escaping through his portal and you know the portal’s exit,  launch a grenade at that point and lock the enemy inside. Also, you can use grenades to close your entrence, preventing enemy players from entering them.

3.    Finding the weapons spawn location

Splitgate comes with a weapon spawn system where different kinds of weapons appear one at a time in different locations. Knowing where to find the available weapon within a given spawn time can make a difference in your game.

When a weapon spawns, an illumination lightens them on the map, making them easy to see. Always survey the environment before rushing for the weapon. You could die if an opponent is coming stealthily for it too. If another player grabs it, you’ll have to wait 150 seconds for another weapon to spawn.

4.    Flanking through portal routes

Flanking through portals is one of the most effective tactics you must learn while playing Splitgate. It helps you kill more and win several fights in the game. However, you must be careful because you could find yourself amidst two or more enemies that would spoil your show.

One trick you can pull off here is the spy attack. To do that, place your portal in an open environment where the enemy would see you passing through it. They must come after you; as they jump out, you can knock them out in no time. Also, you can throw a portal under your enemy’s feet and give them a free fall.

5.    Triple Portaling

Learning how to make triple portals in Splitgate is a trick you need to learn early. Normally, players can make two portals in the game (A and B). The third one comes when you pass through one of the first two portals. For instance, if you place portals A (yellow) and B (purple) and pass through A (yellow) first, your third portal, C, will be yellow.

Understanding the color pattern is important as it can ruin your travel through the portals. Triple Portaling will aid you in traveling longer distances faster with less risk. You can now travel from A to B to C, doubling the distance and making you pop out quicker. This trick will come in handy for escaping sticky situations.

6.    Race training

Race training is a vital tip to know if you want to learn Splitgate’s map quickly. You’ll be able to understand the maps’ layout, discover the blue wall spots, and explore the environment in the game.

You can find the “Race Training” option in your screen’s “Training” section. Select the map you wish to start with and proceed. You can jump, run, and portal anyhow while picking the balls.

7.    Surviving in a fight

Surviving in a fight is an ideal tip you must learn right now. If you’re in face-to-face combat with an enemy player and run out of bullets, swap your weapon instead of reloading. The little seconds it’ll take you to reload can be your end.

Also, if you’ve been hit several times while in a fight, simply make triple portals and escape before anything else. With these tips, you can survive several fights in Splitgate.

Conclusion

You must learn as many tips and tricks early on to make the most of the game. Start by using portals the right way and for many situations. Then engage in race training to understand and explore the environment easily. No matter what, don’t forget the weapons that spawn in the game, and always utilize triple portalling tricks.

Koala Estate Robbers Nabbed

By A Correspondent- Five suspected armed robbers who were part of the gang that allegedly pounced on Koala Estate in September 2022 and got away with US$30 000 have been arrested.

The suspects are Godknows Mukavi (35), Charles Muzvidzwa (45), Tatenda Madzudzo (28), Munyaradzi Gumbo (42) and Happiness Mutsago (41).

In addition to US$30 000, the robbers also got away with a Toyota Land Cruiser and an Isuzu vehicle, plus cellphones from the Koala raid.

In February this year, two of the suspects, Mukavi and Charles Muzvidzwa, are also believed to have kidnapped a complainant after they had hired his truck at N Richards wholesale in Tynwald.

Using the same truck, they allegedly raided Goodhope Farm in Mt Hampden, where they got away with at least US$1 500 and other valuables after capturing the farm’s security guard and a farm manager. They had allegedly posed as security agents in search of illegal drugs.

Police have since recovered:

i). a 9mm FN Browning pistol with a magazine of 11 rounds of ammunition,

ii). two pellet guns,

iii). a cutting torch,

iv). capsule explosive,

v). a capped explosive-fused cable,

vi). four pairs of handcuffs, and

vii). a pack of tyre cables from the suspects.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the suspects arrived at Koala Park Estate wearing orange work suits pretending to be cellphone network providers who had come to survey for a place to put a network booster.

Police investigations led to the arrest of Godknows Mukavi, who implicated the other four suspects.

Detectives tracked the other suspects who were on their way to Banket, where they intended to commit another robbery, leading to their arrest at Mbare Musika.

More robbery cases linked to the suspects are being investigated.

Lupane University Senior Official Caught In Humiliating Scandal

By A Correspondent- Lupane State University (LSU) is investigating a case of a senior official who was allegedly found by a security guard in a campus room late at night with a female student on attachment in one of the university offices.

In a report leaked to Southern Eye last week, a security guard manning the campus said he was doing routine patrols at the university on March 6 this year at around 11:37pm when he heard some suspicious funny noise from the technician’s office on the first floor east wing near the laboratory.

“I stopped to investigate. After waiting for about three minutes listening to the noise, I noticed that the sounds were from a male and a female.  I then knocked, and heard some whispers from inside,” the report read.

“After 10 minutes, [name supplied] unlocked the office and I noticed there was a female inside. When I asked him what he was doing with a lady in the office at night, he laughed at me saying ‘do not worry’.”

The guard said he then beamed his touch on the woman to identify her, but she quickly closed the door. He said the named official and the lady immediately went down stairs to his car and drove off.

Sources said despite the incident no action appears to have been taken against the top official.

“This place is becoming known for sexual scandals. Several staff and students have complained over sexual abuse, some claiming to have been forced to do abortions,” an internal source told Southern Eye.

Contacted for comment, LSU spokesperson Zwelithini Dlamini confirmed that the university had received a report. He, however, declined to give further details on the issue.

“The official position is that the issue is under investigation and any further comments might compromise the investigation process,” Dlamini said.

The Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) is also investigating a matter in which the LSU Vice-Chancellor Pardon Kuipa is accused of sexually harassing a female at the istitution of higher learning.

ZGC chief executive officer, Virginia Muwanigwa last week revealed that their investigation on the matter has been concluded, and the report on the case will be tabled in Parliament soon, adding that evidence by the complainant could not be substantiated.

Willovale Motort Industries To Resume Vehicle Assembling

By A Correspondent- Willovale Motor Industries is set to resume assembling vehicles this year after ceasing vehicle assembly in 2017.

The company is a subsidiary of the Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe (IDCZ).

WMI acting managing director, Mr Dzi Matanhire, said the assembly of pick-up trucks would resume in August this year, according to The Herald.

Matanhire told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce during a tour of Deven Engineering and Willowvale Motor Industries in Harare last week:

Our mandate is local production and supply of vehicular products and equipment and to be the leading supplier of mobility solutions in Africa and beyond.

Willowvale Motor Industries is a customer-centric manufacturer and supplier of sustainable mobility solutions. The company is solvent financially and currently we are selling Mahindra products. We approached the company with a view to establishing a plant in Zimbabwe. We are also selling Mazda products.

He added that Willowvale Motor Industries collaborates with Deven Engineering to produce buses. They plan to acquire three well-known vehicle brands for assembly, as well as consider agricultural equipment. However, they face challenges such as foreign currency, retail credit, wholesale finance, working capital, retooling, and public sector procurement support. Despite this, Willowvale Motor Industries is now a profitable organisation, having resolved its financial issues from 10 years ago. They plan to secure funding for equipment upgrades and retooling.

Mr Edward Tome, the General Manager of IDCZ, said the company aims to produce affordable vehicles that Zimbabweans can purchase. He said they are considering collaborating with the Harare Institute of Technology and other universities to manufacture local components for assembling vehicles. This is to reduce production costs and make the final retail price of vehicles affordable for the people of Zimbabwe. He added:

Starting in the third quarter of this year we will be assembling double and single-cab trucks that will be very affordable to the people of Zimbabwe.

We also have in the pipeline a plan to start assembling again the 3.5-tonne trucks popularly known as T35s which will be very affordable.

Chimanimani East Member of Parliament, Joshua Sacco who heads the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce said Zimbabweans should support local industries by buying locally manufactured products.

WMI was established in 1967. It is a vehicle manufacturer in Zimbabwe that produces buses, trucks, and cars for the local market. The company was initially established as a joint venture between the Zimbabwean government and a South Korean company, Daewoo.

They stopped making cars because the Zimbabwean economy got worse, which made it hard to get the parts they needed to build cars. Fewer people wanted to buy cars too. There were also problems with how the company was run, like corruption and bad management. The Zimbabwean government ended their partnership with Daewoo, and WMI closed in 2005, resumed and closed again in 2017 because of all these problems.

Zimra Cashier Murdered

By A Correspondent- Beitbridge police are investigating the death of a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) cashier whose body with multiple stab wounds was found dumped along the Beitbridge-Harare highway near a fast foods outlet and a bar.

Cornered Lumumba Apologises

By A Correspondent- Lumumba William Gerald Mutumanje also known as Acie Lumumba has written an “apology to Zweli Lunga,” the lawyer he accused of having an affair with his wife.

In a statement, Lumumba said he is willing to retract any statements that may have caused Lunga harm. Reads the statement:

An apology to Zweli Lunga
Dear all,

I come to you today with a heavy heart, seeking to clear the air and set the record straight on recent events that have unfolded in my personal life. In particular, I want to address the recent accusations of defamation made against me by apparently “prominent” Harare corporate lawyer and businessman, Zweli Lunga.

First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere apologies to Mr. Lunga for any statements or actions that may have caused him or his family any distress or harm. I have known him for over a decade as a man who uncommonly loves women, money & motorbikes but that is merely an opinion which may be wrong. While I stand by my statements that my ex-wife Lilian Madyara told me she was involved in an affair with Mr. Lunga, I appreciate she is untruthful with words and will say anything to manipulate a position of advantage, I acknowledge that any further public discussion of their relationship is not helpful nor relevant to the matter at hand.

The only issue that matters to me is the welfare and custody of my son, Treasure Kupakwashe. I want to emphasize that my love for my son is unwavering and has never been in question. Since the day he was born, I have been there for him every step of the way. I have bathed and fed him, taken him to school, and provided him with everything he needs to have a normal and fulfilling childhood. I have even gone to great lengths to ensure that he receives the best possible medical treatment for his chronic condition and he has never lacked that.

However, despite my best efforts, I have not seen or heard from my son in over 100 days. My ex-wife has changed her phone number, and I do not even know where my son is currently living since Zweli & her did business with the house I bought him. This is not only heartbreaking but also unacceptable. As a father, I have the right to be a part of my son’s life, and I implore anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to come forward and assist me in reestablishing contact with him.

I understand that Mr. Lunga has taken legal action against me for alleged defamation, and while I believe that my statements were truthful, I am willing to retract any statements that may have caused him harm. I want to stress that this matter is not about Mr. Lunga, nor is it about any other “lovers/lawyers/clients/sponsors” of my ex-wife. It is about the rights of a father to be a part of his son’s life.

In conclusion, I appeal to Mr. Lunga to put aside any personal grievances and join me in finding a peaceful resolution to this matter. I ask him to share any information he may have about my son’s whereabouts and to communicate to my ex-wife the importance of a father’s role in a child’s life. Let us put the needs of my son first and work together to ensure that he has the love and support of both his parents.

Sincerely,

Treasures father Lumumba Mutumanje

“CCC and MDC are two different entities!” How naïve! Different in name and regalia, yes, but not in deeds!

By Wilbert Mukori- “CCC and MDC are two different entities so please your arguments have no basis, and it lacks facts. We are in 2023. MDC then was Tsvangirai and ZANU was Mugabe,” complained Jimmy Marunza.

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends from MDC Alliance cum MDC-T rebranded their new political party and called it CCC but we should not be fooled into believing they are now squeaky clean. During the GNU days they sold out by failing to implement even one democratic reform even when they had the golden opportunity to do so.

Worse still, they have since given up on reforms and free elections since the GNU debacle by participating in the 2013 and then 2018 elections knowing fully well Zanu PF was rigging the elections and doing so would only give Zanu PF legitimacy. They have done so out of greed; pure and simple!

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

CCC are hell bent on participating in these 2023 elections knowing fully well the whole election process is flawed and that participating will only give the process some modicum of “credibility”, as Coltart put it, and thus give vote rigging Zanu PF some modicum of political legitimacy. Once again, they are participating out of greed.

CCC rebranding is no different from Mnangagwa’s Second Republic rebranding of Zanu PF. The dictator is demanding of us all not only forget what Zanu PF has done from 1980 to November 2017; “let bygone by bygones”, he argued. He too, just like Chamisa and company, is refusing to held to account for what Zanu PF has done until November 2017 although he has not only a senior member in the Zanu PF governments throughout those years; he was Mugabe’s henchman!

The Mugabe dictatorship lasted 37 years because Mnangagwa played a major role in imposing and retaining the de facto one-party dictatorship by spearheading the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre and carrying out the blatant rigging of elections. Mnangagwa, by his own admission, was the principal player in the 2008 election coup that denying MDC the keys to State House.

Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies promised the Second Republic will have “zero tolerance on corruption” and will hold free and fair elections. Corruption is now into overdrive as the ongoing Al Jazeera Gold Mafia documentary is revealing. The regime blatantly rigged the 2018 elections and is doing the same now with the 2023 elections.

When Saul had his Damascus moment, he was completely transformed from the zealot persecuting and murdering believers of Jesus Christ to one of the most outstanding Christian evangelists of all time. Even if Saul had never changed his name to Paul his work from that dramatic moment on the road to Damascus earned him the heavenly acclaim and rightly honoured as a Saint!

Both Emmerson Mnangagwa and Nelson Chamisa have rebranded their political parties from Zanu PF to Zanu PF Second Republic, MDC cum MDC-T cum MDC A to CCC respectively for the sake of running away from their dismal past and to deceive the populous by claiming they have changed when they have not change one bit!

They have cast off the old party regalia but not its old dirty habits. A cobra does not seize to a deadly snake just because it has shed off its old skin. It was not the change of name from Saul to Paul that made him a Saint!

“No to white super-dog will observe, pass or fail our elections” argue Mnangagwa. Rigging, so marking own homework to avoid failure

By Wilbert Mukori- Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely! After four decades of rigging elections President Emmerson Mnangagwa is now claiming the party has the right to rig elections!

“Going forward, and as a country and Nation which is proudly African and sovereign, we shall be insisting on the principle of reciprocity when it comes to the practice of international election observation.

The time will soon come when we will not accept that condescending and even racist view of a pecking order when it comes to measuring electoral democracy unfolding in our sovereign countries, and which, in any event, is meant for our people,” argued President Mnangagwa in the Sunday Mail column.

When you know, you are going to rig the elections; you have failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, will frogmarch voters to vote for you, etc.; of course, you will not want anyone to scrutinise the process.

Zanu PF’s vote rigging juggernaut is now unstoppable and the party has bribed the opposition to guarantee their participation no matter flawed and illegal the process get. The party has woken up to the political reality that party will not get political legitimacy if the process is judged to be flawed and the opposition is dismissed as lacking political credibility.

The recent Al Jazeera Gold Mafia documentary has portrayed Mnangagwa himself and his administration as dunderheads controlled by the white, Indian, Chinese and Russian Mafia Gurus operating in the country. Before the documentary the Zanu PF regime’s reputation was bad and now it is mud. Some of the African leaders who would have turned a blind eye to Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections will now be forced to think twice about granting legitimacy to a regime of dunderheads!

“A pecking order with white super-dogs who must observe elections of lesser beings, on the one side; and black underdogs whose polls must be observed, passed or failed, on the other,” continued Mnangagwa.

“Nothing about our chequered colonial history justifies that false hierarchy; nothing in present international rules legitimises that presumptuous supremacy. The theory and practice of election observation must be on the basis of equality and reciprocity among nations. Anything less and one-sided diminishes and creates a deep sense of bruise and injury to our sovereignty.”

This is just nonsense! In a healthy and functioning democracy every stage of the election process is transparent and open for verification by all the election contestants, the media, the public and observers. Zimbabwe has never requested to observe any Western nation’s elections and had the request denied. What “reciprocity” is he wittering about!

In democratic nations, any election irregularities are dealt with by an independent judiciary. In Zimbabwe it is laughable that the Constitutional Court handled the 2018 election challenge when 8 months earlier the same judiciary had ruled the November 2017 military coup was “justified, legal and constitutional”!

The right to free, fair and credible elections is not just universal right; it is the very foundation of good governance. Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because the nation has been stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship for 43 years and counting.

Going forward, only those Nations who invite us to observe their own elections in future will also be invited to do the same here.”

“One man, one vote!” was the rallying cry before independence. It was valued then as more than just a human right but as one of the key pillar on which good governance stand. Zimbabwe is failed state and in economic ruins precisely because the nation has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections since independence in 1980. The country has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship for 43 years!

Only a dunderhead, drunk after decades of enjoying absolute power, would now think he has a right to rig elections and justify his foolishness on the grounds free, fair and credible elections are a threat the nation’s sovereignty!

It was foolish of us to have allowed the Zanu PF dunderheads to rule for even a day much less for 43 years. We have paid dearly for our folly and must now put an end to this madness. Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections and CCC are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections for selfish reasons. Our task is to denounce the flawed elections, show the opposition have lost political credibility and thus stop Zanu PF getting political legitimacy.

How can a flawed election process, so flawed it does not even have a verified voters’ roll, in which a discredited opposition participate for 30 pieces of silver produce a legitimate government?

ZRP, No Update On Suspicious Death Of “Cabinet Minister Senior” Doug Munatsi, Whose Funeral Mnangagwa Bunked

By Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi | It is now one year and four months since the mysterious death of Douglas (Doug) Tawanda Munatsi and the nation is yet to be updated on the circumstances of the death of the former Chief Executive of the most important institution in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Investment Development Authority (ZIDA). Surely, the nation and potential investors have been sitting on the edge hoping to know what transpired before, during and after the death of the executive of one of Zimbabwe’s powerful institutions.

Doug Munatsi was an ex-banker, a large-scale farmer, business executive and a real estate mogul, whose net worth
Forbes estimated to be around USD130 million.

By now the investigations should have been completed and should have been done by a very senior police officer or chief inspector up to the chief superintendent. While we wait for a press conference or any other mode of update from our law enforcement, there are more questions than answers and most of the answers are in the technology that existed around him and possible suspects. If indeed Doug has been murdered as speculated by some, in this age of mobile Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology there is nothing like, “A perfect murder” anymore, if he was indeed murdered, the individual or individuals will definitely be caught. Today, Technology might not be able to stop a crime from taking place, but it has significantly increased the probability that law breakers will be caught and will be punished. Technology has changed everything including crime and the way police investigate crime is no exception. Therefore, our law enforcement should have built a war chest of digital evidence and recreate what led to the death of Zimbabwe’s top banker.

Internationally digital evidence touches all investigations and in Zimbabwe there is now a growing emphasis on such evidence which is mostly handled by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) cyber lab. At the time of his death, Douglas was staying at one of the most expensive apartments. The average buying price for this type of apartment is over one million dollars, which has one of the best security setup which includes CCTVs, security guards who record who comes and goes. Above that is a block of apartments which is directly opposite the home of the President of Zimbabwe which is heavily guarded by our heavily armed soldiers.

In this case the CCTV footage should have been the only useful tool in this death case. It was going to be relevant for this case as it captures who came to the apartment and who left indicating the time of entry and time of exit. Other technological solutions like mobile phone records and social media tend to be more often effective in solving such homicides. Doug’s Smartphone site analysis was vital as it places where he was and who he was with at the time of his death. Just like any other evidence, investigators have probable cause and a search warrant to search and seize smartphones, computers, tablets, and other devices. Our smartphones are always with us, so if the investigator can get hold of Doug’s smartphone that is usually the treasure trove of evidence that is needed to solve this case.
In such crimes, Social media also plays a role in many cases. The fact that people are using their smartphones to take photos and post or send those out to family members helps to solve the identity of individuals who were with the individual. That is where our detectives really should have gone through and combed through social media platforms and phone evidence. Surveillance evidence and the technology really ended up linking other people to the crime that were either there or involved.

Just because our smart devices are providing evidence in criminal investigations, does not mean that such evidence will be admissible in Zimbabwe’s court. Just as with many of our modern scientific evidentiary milestones, from DNA evidence, to ballistics, to handwriting examples, the evidence as we included in the signed Data Protection Bill to be admissible. Digital evidence is not just creeping into criminal investigations. It is already making an impact in civil suits, Zimbabweans are reporting social media abuse and physical abuse using their digital evidence. Are Zimbabwe’s Courts Ready for digital evidence? Courts are likely to struggle with the increase in digital evidence, at least initially. How are they going to store it and where? Is it secure and who will secure it. There is a lot of controversy now about collecting data from personal devices of individuals or even the company-enabled devices which are included in the Data Protection Bill. There is more and more data, more privacy concerns, collections concerns, possession, custody, and control concerns.

Using the digital evidence collected for today’s Internet of Things (IOT) which includes his CCTV, smartphone, social media communications and smart car the law enforcement agencies will be able to put together how Douglas Tawanda Munatsi lost his life. Technology has become part and parcel of today and future investigations and should be leading the process in the much anticipated public press conference or update on Doug’s investigation.

Let’s build confidence in our investment environment and reveal how Douglas Tawanda Munatsi lost his life in November 2021.

Mnangagwa Labels Election Observers, “Racists” 4 Months Ahead Of Polls

Zimbabwe will not be dictated to on who to invite to observe its elections and, in future, only those countries that invite Harare to observe their own elections will be invited in return, President Mnangagwa has said.

Mnangagwa stated yesterday in his weekly piece in The Sunday Mail that nations go to their elections as sovereign states and, in fact, as State Parties to the United Nations, whose Charter ensures that all countries are equal, regardless of size and age.

According to him, State Parties interact with one another on an equal footing, with regard, and under the strict precept of reciprocity.

Between July 26 and August 26, Zimbabwe will conduct harmonised elections. President Mnangagwa is anticipated to announce the election date soon.

“The theory and practice of election observation must be on the basis of equality and reciprocity among nations. Anything less and one-sided diminishes and creates a deep sense of bruise and injury to our sovereignty,” the President said.

Husband And Wife Stab Each Other Over Cheating Tiff

Early on Saturday morning, a 34-year-old Old Tafara man allegedly stabbed his wife to death after claiming she was having an extramarital affair.

Around midnight, Ernest Musanza confronted his 30-year-old wife Melody Musanza about a man he had seen her with earlier in the day.

Melody reportedly stabbed Ernest with a knife after the two got into a heated fight.

She was repeatedly stabbed back on the neck and torso by Ernest after he snatched the knife from her.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the spokesperson for the Harare Provincial officers, stated that Ernest was fighting for his life at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals while being guarded by officers.

–state media

Willowvale To ReOpen After 2023 Elections, Herald Says

After a break of more than five years, Willowvale Motor Industries will recommence vehicle assembly in August as the Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe (IDCZ) subsidiary gets back to what it does best, the govt publication, the Herald reports saying.

Pickup vehicles with a double or single cab will be the first to be assembled once again.

In 2017, the business that had previously been affiliated with and partially controlled by Mazda stopped assembling cars.

Through its affiliated businesses and divisions, it is still involved in the automotive sector. Willowvale is looking to expand the selection of components produced in Zimbabwe with the restart of assembly work and is probably going to profit from high-quality finished steel from the Manhize steel works.

The promise was made during a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee’s visit to Deven Engineering and Willowvale Motor Industries in Harare last week. WMI acting managing director, Mr Dzi Matanhire, said the assembly of pick-up trucks would resume in August this year.

“Our mandate is local production and supply of vehicular products and equipment and to be the leading supplier of mobility solutions in Africa and beyond,” he said.

“Willowvale Motor Industries is a customer-centric manufacturer and supplier of sustainable mobility solutions. The company is solvent financially and currently we are selling Mahindra products. We approached the company with a view to establishing a plant in Zimbabwe. We are also selling Mazda products.”

Mr Matanhire said Willowvale Motor Industries also contributes to the production of buses in collaboration with Deven Engineering.

“We are working on acquiring at least three competitive and reputable vehicle brands for knocked-down kits to assemble. Agricultural equipment will also be considered. We will mobilise funding for retooling and equipment upgrades of our factory.

“Our key challenges are foreign currency, retail credit, wholesale finance, working capital, retooling, and public sector procurement support. Willowvale Motor Industries had a problem 10 years ago but it is now solvent and a profitable organisation,” he said.

IDCZ General Manager Mr Edward Tome said they wanted to start assembling vehicles at WMI that could be afforded by Zimbabweans.

“We also have got a plan and we are working in collaboration with Harare Institute of Technology and other universities across the country to start manufacturing local components that we can use in assembling vehicles in order to bring down the cost of production and ultimately the retail price to the people of Zimbabwe.

“Starting in the third quarter of this year we will be assembling double and single cab trucks that will be very affordable to the people of Zimbabwe.

Robbers Pounce On Harare Man

A 33-year-old man lost US$41 000 to suspected robbers who had offered him a lift to Borrowdale, in Harare this Friday.

In a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police this Saturday, the suspected robbers pounced on their victim after they had offered him a lift near 6th Avenue and Borrowdale Road.

It is said the victim’s commuter omnibus broke down before he hitch-hiked and falling prey to the robbers.

The robbers allegedly raided him of US$41 000 before they dumped their victim near Mukuvisi Woodlands in Rhodesville, Harare.

Elsewhere the ZRP has arrested Member Nyathi aged 62 and Bruce Ngwenya aged 22 on allegations of murder.

According to the police the duo fatally attacked Robert Maphosa accusing him of having a marital affair with Nyathi’s wife.

It is alleged that the suspect attacked the victim all over the body.

The ZRP has also arrested Stanley Moyo on allegations of robbery which occurred at Masasa Business Centre in Zvishavane on Friday.

It is also alleged that the suspect attacked the victim before robbing him his belongings.

Meanwhile the ZRP is investigating a case in which a 9-year-old child died at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after being attacked by pit bulls in Whitcliffe suburb, Harare last week.

The child’ s death comes after a 68-year-old security guard was found dead on Sunday with multiple injuries after he was mauled by four pit bull dogs at a business premises in Waterfalls, Harare.- ZBC News

Dumpsite Poses Health Risks

RESIDENTS of Gwanda have sent a distress call amid revelations that the local authority is dumping waste at a decommissioned site.

As one approaches the town of Gwanda along the Bulawayo – Beitbridge highway, they are greeted by a cloud of smoke and stinking smell from a dumpsite which is a few metres away from the CBD.

From a distance, iconic features of the town such as the NSSA complex and the Joshua Nkomo Polytechnic College are all covered in smoke.

To the residents and grocery shops barely 30 metres from the dumpsite, flies and marauding baboons have become a normal sight albeit in a town that is seeking city status.

And with few reported cases of cholera across the province in Beitbridge, residents of Gwanda are now living in fear.

A resident said, ‘‘We are tired of this council, we are worried the flies will give us cholera. You can’t cook anything and leave it because the next thing flies will be all over.’’

Another resident noted, ‘‘The worst part is the dumpsite is not even fenced, sometimes you find your children playing with diapers that they would have picked from the dumpsite.’’

Yet another resident said, ‘‘The smell from the site is hazardous, the council told us that they burn the waste so that there won’t be flies, but the smell I think is hazardous to our health.’’

The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is equally worried over the laxity by the local authority to move away from the condemned dumpsite that has turned the urban area into a health hazard.

EMA Matabeleland South Provincial Manager Mr Decent Ndlovu said, ‘‘We as the environmental management, we are equally worried we have issued orders for the municipality to stop dumping their waste there a long time ago. We are in the process of taking the legal route because it continuously poses a health hazard to the people in the town and with cases of cholera being reported it is sad that they continue to dump there.’’

About 7 kilometres from the town, along the Gwanda-Maphisa Road, falling billboards and tall grass are a common sight at what was supposed to be a world class landfill, constructed by a local non-governmental organisation and handed over to the municipality some years ago.

The site, which gobbled nearly US$500 000, was expected to be the answer to the waste management problems bedevilling the opposition run council as it was to also produce biogas for home use.

Gwanda Mayor Mr Njabulo Siziba noted, ‘‘Maybe its an issue of priority on the side of management because we as policy makers we gave them an ultimatum last year to move to the new landfill, but they told us that there are no funds to buy a roller and a compactor that is needed to have the landfill functional.’’

While the residents are living in fear of diseases associated with improper waste management, the municipality recently purchased a new fleet of vehicles for management, so maybe it is a matter of priority in the opposition run urban local authority as is the case in other areas like Harare and Bulawayo.- ZBC News

Reduce Salt Intake

A first-of-its-kind World Health Organization (WHO) Global report on sodium intake reduction shows that the world is off-track to achieve its global target of reducing sodium intake by 30% by 2025.

Sodium, an essential nutrient, increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and premature death when eaten in excess. The main source of sodium is table salt (sodium chloride), but it is also contained in other condiments such as sodium glutamate. The report shows that only 5% of WHO Member States are protected by mandatory and comprehensive sodium reduction policies and 73% of WHO Member States lack full range of implementation of such policies.

Implementing highly cost-effective sodium reduction policies could save an estimated 7 million lives globally by 2030. It is an important component of action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal target of reducing deaths from noncommunicable diseases. But today, only nine countries (Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain and Uruguay) have a comprehensive package of recommended policies to reduce sodium intake.

“Unhealthy diets are a leading cause of death and disease globally, and excessive sodium intake is one of the main culprits,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This report shows that most countries are yet to adopt any mandatory sodium reduction policies, leaving their people at risk of heart attack, stroke, and other health problems. WHO calls on all countries to implement the ‘Best Buys’ for sodium reduction, and on manufacturers to implement the WHO benchmarks for sodium content in food.”

A comprehensive approach to sodium reduction includes adopting mandatory policies and WHO’s four “best buy” interventions related with sodium which greatly contribute to preventing noncommunicable diseases. These include:

Reformulating foods to contain less salt, and setting targets for the amount of sodium in foods and meals
Establishing public food procurement policies to limit salt or sodium rich foods in public institutions such as hospitals, schools, workplaces and nursing homes
Front-of-package labelling that helps consumers select products lower in sodium
Behaviour change communication and mass media campaigns to reduce salt/sodium consumption
Countries are encouraged to establish sodium content targets for processed foods, in line with the WHO Global Sodium Benchmarks and enforce them though these policies.

Mandatory sodium reduction policies are more effective, as they achieve broader coverage and safeguard against commercial interests, while providing a level playing field for food manufacturers. As part of the report, WHO developed a Sodium country score card for Member States based on the type and number of sodium reduction policies they have in place.

“This important report demonstrates that countries must work urgently to implement ambitious, mandatory, government-led sodium reduction policies to meet the global target of reducing salt consumption by 2025,” said Dr Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, a not-for-profit organization working with countries to prevent 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease over 30 years. “There are proven measures that governments can implement and important innovations, such as low sodium salts. The world needs action, and now, or many more people will experience disabling or deadly—but preventable—heart attacks and strokes.”

The global average salt intake is estimated to be 10.8 grams per day, more than double the WHO recommendation of less than 5 grams of salt per day (one teaspoon). Eating too much salt makes it the top risk factor for diet and nutrition-related deaths. More evidence is emerging documenting links between high sodium intake and increased risk of other health conditions such as gastric cancer, obesity, osteoporosis and kidney disease.

WHO calls on Member States to implement sodium intake reduction policies without delay and to mitigate the harmful effects of excessive salt consumption. WHO also calls on food manufacturers to set ambitious sodium reduction targets in their products.

US Petition To Arrest Uebert Angel Others Over Money Laundering In #GOLDMAFIA

Office of Foreign Assets Control

U.S. Department of the Treasury

1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Washington, DC 20220

March 31st , 2023

Dear Sir/Madam,

US police and military arrests – file

We, the Zimbabwe Economic Movement, a grassroots organization founded in the United States, are writing to bring to your attention the issue of money laundering and illegal externalization of funds by the Zimbabwean government and its supporters. We urge the Office of Foreign Assets Control to impose extensive sanctions on the individuals and entities implicated in the laundering of Gold from Zimbabwe, which has been estimated to be worth $200 billion in the last 10 years.

The evidence is overwhelming that the Zimbabwean government and its supporters have been externalizing billions of American dollars from Zimbabwe. This is a clear violation of American Law and must not go unpunished. The American government should take a stand and impose meaningful sanctions against the regime in Zimbabwe. However, sanctions alone are not enough. We believe that arrest warrants should be issued by the US Marshals, for Interpol to carry out the arrests.

Furthermore, we understand that the Zimbabwean government and its supporters have been printing fake American dollars. This is not only illegal but also a threat to the American economy. We urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and bring any culprits to justice.

According to recent reports by Al Jazeera, a number of high-profile individuals, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, financier Billy Rautenbach, and several prominent businessmen and smugglers, have been implicated in this illegal activity. We believe that these individuals have facilitated sanctions-busting activities that have undermined the efforts of the United States and the international community to hold the Zimbabwean government accountable for its human rights abuses and economic mismanagement.

We therefore call upon OFAC to take immediate action to freeze the assets of these individuals and entities, prohibit U.S. persons from doing business with them, and work with international partners to ensure that they are held accountable for their actions. We also urge OFAC to consider expanding the scope of existing sanctions to include other individuals and entities that may be involved in similar activities.

In addition, all mineral exports and other valuable resources should be placed under sanctions. The exploitation and displacement of ‘at-risk’ populations have been rampant in Zimbabwe, therefore the ban on mineral sales will at least ensure that there will be some resources left when Zimbabwe finally becomes free. No foreign direct investment should be permitted due to the unacceptable capital risk, those who participate in these crimes must be punished, as recent money laundering cases have demonstrated.

Furthermore, we suggest that all recipients of proceeds, salaries from laundered money, government workers, including teachers, city workers, police officers, soldiers of all ranks, and election officers must be included in the sanctions list. These individuals are ‘tools’ used by the government to externalize assets and thus ‘financially-torture’ those who do not follow orders. Even university professors and lecturers who receive a paycheque from the government must be held accountable. No one should be left out of the sanctions list.

The U.S. embassy and all other embassies should be closed as a sign of solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe. The international community must stand with the people of Zimbabwe in their fight for justice and a functioning democracy. The current regime must be held accountable for their actions. The use of the military to intimidate and silence opposition must be condemned. The people of Zimbabwe need to know that the world is standing with them in their fight for justice and a real democracy.

To truly break the current corrupt system in Zimbabwe, we suggest a multifaceted approach. We need, as stated previously, to hold all government workers accountable by adding them to the sanctions list. We need to engage with the international security council leadership to promote respect for human rights by being present in areas of need. We need to conduct independent investigations to uncover the truth about what happened during the military suppression of opposition. We need to support citizen-led movements that can highlight the government’s wrongdoing

We believe that it is the duty of the international community, obviously and importantly including the United States, to support the people of Zimbabwe in their struggle for justice, democracy, and human rights. We cannot stand idly by while a corrupt and criminal regime continues to plunder the country’s resources and suppress its citizens.

As an organization founded by Zimbabweans, we are committed to advocating for economic and social justice in our country. We are based in Memphis, Tennessee, and can be reached at;

Our founder, WaMwari Divine Chaminuka Mafa, has dedicated her life to the cause of empowering Zimbabweans and building a better future for our country.

We hope that the Office of Foreign Assets Control will take our concerns seriously and act swiftly to impose meaningful sanctions on the Zimbabwean regime.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

Sincerely,

The Zimbabwe Economic Movement

Zanu PF Women’s Commissar Declares War On Wadyajena

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF Women’s National Political Commissar Senator Maybe Mbowa has declared war on Gokwe Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena ahead of the party primary elections rerun.

Zanu PF politiburo ordered a rerun of primary elections in areas that experienced violence and claims of rigging including Gokwe North where Wadyajena was able to prove manipulation of outcome in favour of Flora Bhuka.

In a circulating audio she shared in a Zanu PF group, Senator Mbowa revealed a plan to block Wadyajena from accessing Nembudziya ahead of the primary elections re-run as announced by the party’s politiburo meeting.

“Form a team that will be positioned at Kuwirirana, another one at Mutora, even if Mai Bhuka does not campaign, people must be campaigned,” she said.

She also revealed a plan to block Wadyajena from entering Gokwe including chasing his polling agents in what could result in another disputed primary election.

“Even if it means people block him at Sanyati, the better, if it means his polling agents are chased away…” added Mbowa.

She accused Wadyajena of being imposed by Zanu PF top chefs while inciting the people of Gokwe North that they should never allow the youthful politician of not developing the area.

“Some big fish with interests want him back, he is like an undersized pant that is being forced on us, “We are faced with a python, with an evil one…,” added Mbowa.

She incited youths to unleash violence on Wadyajena as a way of stopping him from winning the primary elections rerun.

Harare Zanu PF Deputy Chair In Land Grab Storm

Reports filtering in are that Harare Province Zanu PF vice chairman Ephraim Fundukwa has been using the party’s name to grab land across the province.

Sources who spoke to this publication said Fundukwa allegedly got land from the council disguising that it was mearnt for the ruling party benefit when it was for his personal gain.

“Fundukwa used the name of the party to seek permission to built vending shops from Council There are about 600. Out of the 600, a number of 360 are his. The others he gave to his few friends. He sells one at a cost of US$1500, but to those who want to rent its US$300,” revealed the source.

He is accused of also parceling out land around the first Masvingo Highway Tollgate.

“Fundukwa took land near Tollgate and put people there, getting money ranging from US$100 to US$6000. That land was supposed to be used to allocate people from Hopley who were affected by the Mbudzi Interchange construction,” added the source.

The Zanu PF Harare province vice chairperson was also in the controversial pegging of land in the Granville Cemetery.

Election Dates Revealed

By A Correspondent- This year’s harmonised elections will be held between July 26 and August 26, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has revealed.

President Mnangagwa is expected to proclaim the election date soon.

Preparations for the polls are, however, at an advanced stage.

“The preparatory work for holding this year’s harmonised general election is at an advanced stage,” Minister Ziyambi told The Sunday Mail.

“The next step that awaits the electorate is the announcement of the election date, through a proclamation by His Excellency, President Mnangagwa.

“It is anticipated that the elections will be held between July 26 and August 26.

“This is in line with Section 158 (1) of the Constitution, which provides that a general election must be held so that polling takes place not more than 30 days before the expiry of the five-year period upon swearing in of the President and/or Parliament.

“Consequently, this will result in the dissolution of Parliament at midnight on the day before the first polling day.”

The last harmonised elections were held on July 30, 2018, with President Mnangagwa being sworn into office on August 26.

Treasury, Minister Ziyambi said, was presently mobilising additional resources for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), which has tabled a $130 billion budget.

“As you are aware, the Government has budgeted $76 billion for the 2023 harmonised elections, to which $53 billion is earmarked for the elections,” he added.

“We urge ZEC to utilise the available resources set aside for it in order to ease the burden on the taxpayer. With that said, Treasury will try its best to mobilise adequate resources for the process.”

The Government, he said, was fast-tracking the enactment of the Electoral Amendment Bill before dissolution of Parliament.

The Bill sets out to, among other things, stop the use of driver’s licences as proof of identity for purposes of voting.

It also provides for the election of 10 youths into the National Assembly, in line with Section 124(1)(c) of the Constitution, as amended in 2021.

Further, the Bill seeks to extend the women’s quota in the National Assembly, under a party-list system, while also providing for the election of women on a party list to provincial councils and local authorities, in terms of Section 277(4) of the Constitution.

Currently, the Bill is at the second reading stage in the National Assembly.

After passing through the National Assembly, it will be transmitted to the Senate for debate.

“It is my hope that the Senate stage shall be swift but thorough,” said Minister Ziyambi.

After completion of all parliamentary processes, the Bill will be placed before the President for his assent.

“The Electoral Amendment Bill, as a Bill of paramount significance in light of the upcoming harmonised election, is receiving the due urgency it deserves.”

Electoral reforms

Minister Ziyambi said Government was satisfied with the electoral reforms since the last polls.

It is believed that platforms such as the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), which brings together all political parties that participated in the 2018 elections, have enhanced participation of a cross-section of stakeholders in the reform process.

“Furthermore, citizens have also been accorded a voice through parliamentary consultations, despite the fact that their elected officials debate constantly the electoral reforms that affect their political rights,” he added.

“In addition, there has been a lot of civic society contributions that have also been taken on board.

“Dialogue has been held among POLAD, ZESN (Zimbabwe Election Support Network), ERC (Election Resource Centre) and ZLHR (Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights) on a possible laymen’s bill on elections.”

Government, he added, has also engaged the European Union in a political dialogue “that has had issues around electoral reforms considered”.

“Zimbabwe’s ratification of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance testifies to the strengthening of our electoral process beyond domestic standards of a truly democratic electoral process,” said Minister Ziyambi.

Observers

Government will be guided by the Electoral Act when inviting and accrediting election observer missions.

In particular, Section 40I (1) of the Act provides that an application for accreditation as an observer must be made no later than the fourth day before the first day of polling for the election of the President, constituency members of the National Assembly or councillors.

“Our law does not really require invitation and places no limitations to this end; rather, it opens up the electoral space to all.”

Last week, ZEC concluded the final national biometric voter registration.

Stranger Than Fiction- Body Parts Retrieved 41yrs Later

By A Correspondent- The popularly used ‘stranger than fiction’ phrase was brought to life this afternoon in Mutasa after the alleged private parts of a man who was allegedly murdered for rituals 41 years ago were retrieved from under a disused shop.

When The Manica Post news crew arrived, hundreds of villagers in Maondo Village and other neighbouring villages under Chief Mutasa had come out in their numbers to witness the retrieval of private parts, eyes and tongue which were alleged to the late Tukai Kujeke’s from the Dangarembwa shop at Maondo Business Centre.

Kujeke was allegedly murdered in 1982 and buried with missing body parts.

It is alleged that he was murdered by Oneday Manyarara and James Dangarembwa, who are both now late and whose families appeased Kujeke’s avenging spirit with seven cattle each this afternoon.

Led by Nyanga traditional healer, Sekuru Shingirai Mukotsanjera, the retrieval team found the parts in a small calabash, about two metres deep just outside the Dangarembwa shop.

Afterwards, the body parts were taken to the cemetery where Kujeke’s body was buried and were also placed in his grave to rest with his body.

The shop, which has been unused for years, is alleged to have been haunted by the late Kujeke’s spirit since the 80s.

Zimbabwe Red Cross Training Nurse Aides Nationally

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Red Cross is training nurse aides across the country on basic first aid and related primary health care skills.

Mr Elias Hwenga, Zimbabwe Red Cross Secretary General, said they have trained 90 Adolescent Girls and Young Women on basic nursing skills in Beitbridge, Mangwe and Gwanda districts in Matabeleland South.

He said the program was being supported by the Zimbabwe Health Interventions through the DREAMS (Determined: Resilient: Empowered: AIDS-free: Mentored and Safe) RISE Program.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mr Stambuli Kim, the organisation’s communication manager, during the graduation of 20 nurse aides in Beitbridge, Hwenga said:

Through this partnership, we have managed to train 20 Nurse Aides in Mangwe District, 20 in Gwanda and another 30 who are in the final stages of the nurse aide program. We have also managed to populate the importance of First Aid in different spheres which include schools, workplaces and even for ordinary citizens.

The accredited nurses, now with CPR certifications, will bring knowledge and new skills to help the community when needed.

Acquisition of Basic First Aid skills is fast becoming a global trend after the realisation that lives were being lost needlessly when there are ways and means to save these precious lives.
Zimbabwe Red Cross also said the nurse aides underwent all the stages of training as well as the prerequisite three months’ attachment at various health facilities.
In summary, Hwenga mentioned that:
i). graduating nurse aides were taught first aid skills to help in various medical situations as a humanitarian act.
i). properly administering first aid can prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed and allow them to focus on more serious cases.
iii). the training also helps community members to confidently assess their surroundings during disasters, promoting a sense of safety and well-being.
iv) first aid is a lifesaving skill that everyone should have basic knowledge of since emergencies are a daily occurrence.
Sister Monica Mbawa, the Nursing Officer in Beitbridge District, explained that the DREAMS program aims to equip adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) with essential skills such as vocational training, work readiness, soft skills, and technical skills. The program follows a positive youth development framework.

SA Kombi Accident Involving Zimbabweans

Police in South Africa are attempting to definitely identify the eight people who died in a horrifying accident while riding in a Toyota Quantum that was headed for the Beitbridge border.

The mishap happened close to Musina, a border village, before the Baobab Tollgate.

Speaking on behalf of Limpopo’s Traffic and Community Safety, Ms. Tidimalo Chuene said the Toyota Quantum struck a delivery van head-on after the driver of that vehicle made a mistake when passing.

“Indications are that the accident happened when a minibus taxi overtook unsafely on a barrier line and collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle.

“Five men and three women died as a result of the accident while eight other people who sustained injuries were transported to nearby health facilities for medical attention”.

More than 40 Zimbabweans have died on the N1 Highway due to road accidents in the last 12 months.

Armed Robbers Run Out Of Luck 6 Months Later

Five alleged armed robbers have been arrested after being on run for over 6 months. They are believed to have been part of the group that allegedly raided Koala Estate in the manner of a movie last September and made off with $30,000 before committing a number of other armed robberies.
The suspects at Koala also managed to escape with a Toyota Land Cruiser, an Isuzu car, cellphones, Tatenda Madzudzo (28), Munyaradzi Gumbo (42) and Happiness Mutsago (41).

Two of the defendants, Mukavi and Charles Muzvidzwa, are suspected of kidnapping a complainant in February of this year after they had rented his truck from N Richards Wholesale in Tynwald.

They reportedly broke into Goodhope Farm in Mount Hampden using the same truck and made off with at least $1.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said: “At Koala Park Estate, the suspects, who were wearing orange worksuits, had initially posed as cellphone network providers who had come to survey for a place to put a network booster.

“Police investigations led to the arrest of Godknows Mukavi, who implicated the other four suspects.

“Detectives tracked the other suspects who were on their way to Banket, where they intended to commit another robbery, leading to their arrest at Mbare Musika . . . ,” further reads the statement.

More robbery cases linked to the suspects are being investigated.

Horror As Teenager Stabs Colleague To Death

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) is investigating a bullying incident that turned fatal at Churu Farm in Glenview, Harare on Monday.

In a statement on their Twitter page, the ZRP said the incident occurred on the 27th of this month after a student aged 17 allegedly stabbed a fellow 17-year-old student with a broken glass.

The case comes after a similar incident in Bulawayo last month when a Form four student was fatally stabbed in a suspected turf war involving boys from Hamilton and Founders High Schools.

Another bullying incident was reported in Harare last month after two Churchill Boys High School students appeared on social media being forced to slap each other while tied with their shoelaces.

There are fears that cases of bullying are driven by drug and substance abuse among youths. – ZBC News

Freedom Of City Status For Emmerson Mnangagwa

Thousands of people gathered at Gweru Civic Centre to witness the official conferment of the Freedom of the City to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The council later went into session, following the President’s admission as an Honorary Freeman of the City of Gweru.

The President was applauded for his statesmanship exhibited in successfully maintaining unity, peace and prosperity in the country and for his efforts in re-engagement and amalgamation within the international community of nations.

The council also commended the excellent and visionary leadership by President Mnangagwa as shown by his efforts to improve the lives of citizens of Zimbabwe underpinned by Vision 2030 which seeks to eradicate poverty and endeavours to achieve an upper middle-income economy.

Earlier, President Mnangagwa signed the Visitors’ book in the presence of His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Gweru, Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi.

The Freedom of the City status is a high civic honour given to prominent people for their contribution towards the development of a city.

The honour is given through a council resolution and allows the individual to enjoy certain liberties and might be exempted from certain by-laws of the city.

This comes after the city of Gweru went through massive transformation after getting devolution funds from central government.

This includes acquisition of refuse trucks and water treatment chemicals.

The government has also availed funding for the procurement of water pumps at Gwenhoro Pump Station in a move that eventually eased perennial water shortages in the City of Progress.

A number of health institutions also got a major facelift through devolution funds and these include the Ascot Infectious Disease Centre and Iven Beerhall, which was turned into a council clinic.

Government has also taken over the rehabilitation of several roads in the city of Gweru after the local authority had failed to deliver its mandate.- ZBC News

Avoid Too Much Salt

Bosso, Platinum Lock Horns In Explosive Tie

Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito has refused to read much into past records ahead of their Sunday’s Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 3 encounter against defending champions FC Platinum.

Bosso has struggled to beat the Platinum Boys in recent years, with their last league victory coming in August 2014 when they won 1-0 at Mandava Stadium.

Their recent meeting ended in a 3-2 loss to FC Platinum at Barbourfields last year in October.

Speaking ahead of the match, Brito said: “Records can be broken and we’re here to try and break the record against FC Platinum.

“The technical staff and players at Highlanders are not looking at the past but we’re always looking to the future, the next match.

“In this case, we’re looking forward to the FC Platinum game. Every next match we want to win and we want three points against FC Platinum.”

The coach added: “When I arrived here, we asked for the support of our supporters because they are a piece of our puzzle.

“We would like to invite them to come to make a good environment for the players. They should come, they should make BF like hell.”

Mahere Tears Into Kirsty Coventry

Prominent lawyer and opposition Citizens for Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has blasted Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry for being insensitive to the plight of football players.

Mahere’s sentiments come in the wake of Coventry revealing in Parliament that her ministry and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) do not want to have the FIFA suspension lifted at this point.

Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA for government interference after the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA administration for several allegations.

FIFA’s only condition for the embargo to be lifted is the unconditional reinstatement of the Kamambo-led board but Coventry insists there are “cleaning Zimbabwean football” and having the suspension lifted is not a priority.

Mahere took to microblogging site Twitter to criticize Coventry, accusing her of arrogantly dealing with the issue.

Dear @KirstyCoventry

“A disservice to who?” You arrogantly ask.

A disservice to all the footballers whose careers have stagnated because of the international football ban you caused.

Mnangagwa Regime Lacks Credibility, Integrity – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

It is every citizen’s duty to fight for freedom from Zanu PF oppression.

This was said by CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa.

According to President Chamisa, Mr Mnangagwa’s administration lacks integrity and credibility.

“LEADERSHIP SETS AND DEFINES THE STANDARDS…

What falls before anything else falls or fails is government.

Once the standards, integrity and credibility of government fall or fail everything else collapses. Let’s fix it,” said President Chamisa in a statement on Twitter.

On Saturday President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page:

SEEK GOD NOT GOLD…No one can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else. he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matt 6:24 Blessed Sabbath beloved! #NewLeaders #NewNation #bettertomorrow

Chiwenga, Mudenda Bootlick Mnangagwa, As The President Grabs Gweru

By- Vice President Constantino Chewnga and the speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, have hero-worshipped President Emerson Mnangagwa and said that God sent him to rule.

The two praised Mnangagwa at an event held for his freedom in Gweru.

At the event, attended by a sizeable gathering that included traditional leaders, Cabinet Ministers and Zanu PF supporters, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said the conferment was a special honour for the Head of State and Government.

“This is indeed a special honour in recognition of a man who has contributed to the growth and development of Gweru. The conferment of Freedom of the City symbolises the confidence the people of Gweru, Midlands province and indeed the generality of Zimbabweans have in your leadership. This is not just an achievement but a celebration of the highest order in appreciation of the impact that you have made in improving the livelihoods of your people,” said VP Chiwenga.

“For us privileged to work with you on a daily basis, we are convinced that there is no better leader to take us to the Zimbabwe we all want and desire. The Lord must be smiling that the leader that he bequeathed to Zimbabwe has made great strides and has achieved so much in stabilising and consolidating the social and political gains made since the advent of the Second Republic.”

He commended Gweru City Council led by Mayor Hamutendi Kombayi, saying they have demonstrated love and appreciation for the leadership of President Mnangagwa.

Clr Kombayi, commended President Mnangagwa for what he is doing to improve local authorities.

“His Worship, the Mayor, Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi and his entire council and the people of this city have demonstrated the greatest love and affection to you by bestowing this honour of the Freedom of the City and we join them blissfully. The fact that the conferment was done when council was in full session shows that the President is a distinguished leader and deserves this high honour,” VP Chiwenga said.

He said President Mnangagwa stood tall among other luminaries and this made Gweru City Council and Zimbabwe as a whole to place him in the annals of strategists.

“I also want to say to the city of Gweru and the people of Gweru, that after what you have done, can you also demonstrate it in the forthcoming election by observing peace, unity, love and harmony. We are all Zimbabweans and this is our only motherland, we were born here and we will die here,” said VP Chiwenga.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, said President Mnangagwa deserved the honour.

“You more than deserve this coveted civic recognition especially on account of your illustrious contribution to the development of urban local authorities including Gweru city, let alone the entire Zimbabwe,” said Adv Mudenda.

He chronicled the origin of the name Gweru which he said originated from Ndebele settlement which meant a steep place, in itself symbolic to President Mnangagwa’s high position as a leader.

“Today you have been honoured at the euphemistic steep place of Gweru river. You are at the steep place as the Head of Government,” said Adv Mudenda.

He said President Mnangagwa was at the centre of driving economic growth to achieve Vision 2030 anchored on the National Development Strategy 1.

Clr Kombayi, commended President Mnangagwa for what he is doing to improve local authorities.

He said on November 28 last year, the full council resolved to confer President Mnangagwa with Freedom of the City.

“We have benefitted from devolution funds. They have helped us a lot. The funds did not come on time and slightly affected our operations but they indeed helped us, you also helped us to get water pumps,” said Clr Kombayi.

He said the city’s population had outgrown its infrastructural capacity.

“The infrastructure was for 300 000 people but in Gweru we now have a population of 1,2 million,” said Clr Kombayi.

Residents of the town commended the President for transforming their lives through his policies.

“Most of our roads have been improved. Some of them were impassable but now we see tangible works on the ground. We pray for continued support on the remaining roads,” said Mrs Chipo Makoni of Mkoba 9. Mr Daniel Mapolisa of Ascot said he was encouraged by the unity of purpose shown by Gweru City Council.

“Gweru city council is constituted by councillors from different political parties but they resolved to confer the honour on President Mnangagwa,” he said.
