By A Correspondent| The fraud case against Cynthia Gambiza, a member of the Teachers for ED group and owner of Destiny Achievers College in Domboshava, has been postponed to February 24 after her defence counsel cited that they had not been furnished with court documents.
Gambiza, 49, appeared before Harare Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki facing multiple fraud charges related to the alleged misappropriation of Cambridge Examination fees amounting to US$4,000 from parents of Ordinary Level students.
The allegations stem from an incident involving Rachel Munhenga, who enrolled her daughter, Gaumuchirai Matsenga, at Destiny Achievers College in Glen Forest in 2021. Believing the school to be a registered Cambridge examination centre—an assertion widely promoted on social media and billboards—Munhenga paid US$700 in May 2024 for her daughter’s October-November exams.
However, in September 2024, Munhenga received a WhatsApp message from Gambiza, informing her that her daughter would not be sitting for the exams due to non-registration, purportedly because she lacked a national identity document.
Investigations later revealed that other parents had also been deceived in a similar manner, raising concerns about the legitimacy of Destiny Achievers College.
The defence argued that they had not received essential court documents, prompting the magistrate to defer the matter to February 24.
She remains out on bail pending the next hearing.
Anesu Chirenje is prosecuting for the State.

Highlanders Football Club has avoided a transfer ban, thanks to businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who intervened to settle a debt owed to former coach Baltemar Brito and his assistant, Antonio Joao Torres.
The club faced the potential sanction by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee after failing to clear a debt of $26,500.
Chivayo stepped in to help cover the amount, and the payment has now been made, as confirmed by the club’s statement.
In a post, Highlanders expressed their gratitude: “Highlanders Football Club would like to extend its sincerest thanks to Mr. Wicknell Chivayo for his generous gesture in fully settling the outstanding debts of our two coaches, as promised.
“Sir Wicknell has been a long-time supporter of ithimu yezwe lonke, offering tangible help to the club since 2017.
“As we approach our 100-year anniversary, Bosso can count on his ongoing support for this great institution. We once again convey our heartfelt appreciation.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s girlfriend, Mabel Chinomona suggests he is no more president, in this @ZANUPF_Official video clip. She says:

Driving requires not only skill but also patience, awareness, and respect for other road users. In many situations, drivers may feel the urge to overtake a slower vehicle, but it’s crucial to recognize when doing so could be dangerous or inconsiderate. One such situation is when the vehicle ahead signals an intention to overtake another vehicle.
Why You Shouldn’t Overtake in This Situation
When the car in front of you signals to overtake, it indicates that the driver is preparing to pass another vehicle. If you attempt to overtake the vehicle while they are trying to do so, it can create a hazardous situation for everyone on the road. The vehicle in front of you might need more space or time to safely complete the maneuver, and your overtaking could interfere with their ability to do so effectively. This can lead to accidents, traffic disruptions, and increased stress for all drivers involved.
Patience Is Key
Sometimes, it’s easy to feel impatient or frustrated when you are stuck behind a vehicle moving at a slower pace. However, the best approach in such situations is to remain patient. Overtaking at an inappropriate moment not only risks accidents but also contributes to unnecessary road rage. By waiting until the vehicle in front has completed its maneuver, you contribute to the smooth flow of traffic and make the road a safer place for everyone.
Drive in Your Lane
One of the most important aspects of driving safely is adhering to lane discipline. Changing lanes without proper consideration, overtaking when it’s unsafe, or cutting across traffic are all behaviors that increase the risk of accidents. Staying in your lane and respecting the road markings will reduce confusion and allow you to react appropriately to changing conditions.
Conclusion
In essence, it’s crucial to stay sane and drive responsibly. Patience and lane discipline should always be your guiding principles. Overtake only when it’s safe to do so and never at the expense of others. Respecting the signals and intentions of other drivers will help you navigate the roads with greater confidence and, most importantly, safety. Remember: it’s better to arrive late than to never arrive at all.

Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, was awarded the Liberation Vanguard Award by the Africa Youth Congress (AYC) on Wednesday, a recognition that has sparked mixed reactions.
The award was presented to Mnangagwa at a ceremony in Harare, which was attended by Taurai Kandishaya, a prominent Zanu PF Youth League official.
Speaking about the award, Kandishaya, who is also the President of the Africa Youth Congress, stated:
“Today, in my capacity as President of Africa Youth Congress, leading my delegation, I had the honour and privilege of handing over an award to President ED Mnangagwa from Africa Youth Congress, which was given to him at a congress held in Uganda in January.”
The Liberation Vanguard Award was presented to Mnangagwa in recognition of his “unwavering dedication and contribution to the liberation, freedom, justice, and sovereignty of African nations through self-determination across the continent,” according to Kandishaya. The award was touted as a tribute to Mnangagwa’s leadership in championing the African ideal of self-dependence, a sentiment he has consistently expressed with the “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo” mantra, which translates to “the country is built by its own people.”
Kandishaya further elaborated on the significance of the award, stating:
“The Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo mantra is a clear vision of self-dependence, inclusivity, and determination to nation-building.”
However, the award has raised eyebrows, with critics questioning the motives behind such recognitions and the organization’s credibility. The timing of the award and the political implications surrounding Mnangagwa’s leadership have sparked debate, especially given the ongoing challenges faced by Zimbabwe under his rule, including issues of governance, human rights, and economic instability.
While Mnangagwa’s supporters have hailed the award as a well-deserved acknowledgment of his contributions to Africa’s sovereignty and self-determination, others view it as a politically motivated gesture by an organization closely linked to the ruling party.

Auxillia Mnangagwa, the First Lady of Zimbabwe, caused major disruptions in Masvingo on Wednesday after instructing local schools to transport students to her rally at the Showgrounds, effectively halting normal school activities for the day.
A school head confirmed the directive, saying, “Yes, we were instructed to release our bus for the rally. Our students also participated in the First Lady’s event.” This unexpected move not only interrupted lessons but also created logistical chaos within the city.
In addition to the disruption in education, Mnangagwa’s security detail caused heavy traffic congestion throughout Masvingo. Observers noted that the high level of security surrounding the First Lady seemed to reflect growing tensions within the Zanu PF party.
In a separate incident, a ZUPCO bus, which was set to ferry Zanu PF supporters to the First Lady’s rally, was swept away by strong floodwaters at Musavezi Bridge in Chivi Ward 3. The bus had not yet picked up passengers when the flooding occurred. The driver was forced to abandon the vehicle and swim to safety.
During her rally, the First Lady took the opportunity to promote her philanthropic initiatives, including donating books to students across the province. “I am proud of my philanthropic efforts,” Mnangagwa said as she presented the books intended to benefit local learners.

Zivai Mhetu, the legislator for Epworth North constituency, has made a heartfelt plea to the United States government to reconsider its decision to halt health-related foreign aid, urging them to continue supporting vital health services that save lives in Zimbabwe.
Mhetu expressed concern that the sudden suspension of aid is severely impacting healthcare delivery in his constituency. He made the remarks after visiting several health facilities in Epworth North, following a directive by former US President Donald Trump to cease aid to African countries.
Mhetu stated:
“Prior notice on cutting aid—at least 24 months—would have been appropriate, as the abrupt halt not only jeopardizes the beneficiaries but also violates legitimate expectations. The Zimbabwean government passed its budget in December 2024, and covering this gap may require a supplementary budget, which is unlikely due to the already heavy tax burden on citizens.”
He revealed that the aid cut has resulted in a reduction of staff at local health clinics, further straining the already limited resources and staff. “I was informed of staff reductions at Epworth Poly and Overspill clinics after Zimtech and PEPFAR withdrew 6 nurses and 5 primary counselors from Epworth Poly Clinic. At Overspill Clinic, 5 nurses and 4 primary counselors also left, while 1 nurse and 2 primary counselors departed from Epworth Mission Clinic. The remaining staff are overwhelmed, and the District Medical Officer has called for the government to send in locum staff to fill the gap.”
In a recent statement, the US Embassy in Zimbabwe announced that all US-related funding is under review to align with Washington’s foreign policy priorities.
The embassy’s statement reads:
“The review of all foreign assistance programs will ensure they are efficient and consistent with U.S. foreign policy under the America First agenda. The US Embassy in Zimbabwe has paused its foreign assistance and is reviewing its programs to align with this Executive Order and the waiver.”
The statement, quoting Secretary Rubio, emphasized that every aid dollar must advance America’s national interests.
The US has long been a key partner in supporting Zimbabwe’s health and food security sectors. Through PEPFAR, the US has helped improve the health of 1.2 million Zimbabweans living longer, healthier lives due to access to HIV services. Over 1,600 public hospitals and clinics have also benefited from US-funded training and technical support.
PEPFAR remains a crucial part of Zimbabwe’s efforts to combat HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, providing antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and condoms.
As the representative for Epworth North, Mhetu has taken it upon himself to engage with various donor agencies and well-wishers to ensure that health centres in his constituency have adequate medication supplies, despite the funding cuts.
Twenty-four people died this morning when an Urban Connect bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a commercial truck at the Lutumba tollgate along the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway.
According to witnesses, a Beitbridge-bound bus collided with a Chirundu-bound commercial truck that was carrying 34 tonnes of magnesium.
eitbridge District Medical Officer, Dr Lenos Samhere confirmed that 24 people died from the collision.
He said 17 people died on the spot while seven who had sustained head injuries died upon admission at the hospital.
Dr Samhere said over 30 people have been taken to hospital, with 12 of them in a critical condition.

By Munacho Gwamanda-Outspoken war veteran and fierce critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Blessing Geza, has gone into hiding after police announced on Wednesday that they are seeking his arrest on “multiple” criminal charges.
According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on February 12, 2025, Geza is wanted for alleged theft, undermining the authority of the president, and incitement to commit public violence.
However, the charges are widely seen as politically motivated, aimed at silencing one of Mnangagwa’s most vocal opponents.
Geza’s supporters argue that the accusations are a ploy to neutralize him ahead of a potential showdown within ZANU-PF.
“This is a classic Mnangagwa regime tactic—using law enforcement to silence those who expose corruption and demand accountability,” said a war veteran aligned with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s camp.
Geza has been relentless in his criticism of Mnangagwa’s alleged misgovernance, corruption, and push for an unconstitutional third term.
He has also accused the president of reneging on a supposed gentleman’s agreement with Chiwenga, under which power was expected to rotate after two terms.
Mnangagwa’s refusal to step down has fueled tensions within ZANU-PF, with factions now openly expressing their discontent.
Calls for his resignation have intensified following Chiwenga’s speech at the National Heroes Acre last week, where he made a thinly veiled attack on corrupt businessmen linked to the president.
Chiwenga, a key figure in the 2017 coup, warned against individuals exploiting state resources for personal gain—a remark widely interpreted as targeting Mnangagwa’s close associates, including his sons and powerful business allies.
Sources within the security sector suggest that Mnangagwa and his inner circle are growing increasingly anxious.
“The president received the message loud and clear. He is now panicking, and so is his family. His sons have been placed under heightened state security as fears grow over potential moves against them,” a senior government source revealed.
With internal party divisions deepening and Geza’s persecution seen as part of a broader crackdown on dissent, Mnangagwa’s grip on power appears more precarious than ever.
By A Correspondent| Presidential Advisor Paul Tungwarara’s farm has become a model for integrated agricultural production, excelling in maize cultivation, fish farming, poultry rearing, and animal husbandry.
Located in the heart of Chegutu, the farm is not only boosting local food security but also setting a standard for modern, eco-friendly farming practices.
Utilizing advanced irrigation techniques and climate-resilient seed varieties, the farm is proving to be a beacon of model agriculture.
“When I went to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s farm at Precabe, I was motivated and I told myself that I should copy and paste what he was doing at his farm. It is what motivated me,” Tungwarara said.
Tungwarara’s team has also adopted conservation agriculture methods, such as minimal tillage and crop rotation, to maintain soil fertility and reduce environmental impact.
“Our goal is to ensure that maize production is not only sustainable but also capable of meeting the needs of our communities,” Tungwarara said during a tour of the farm.
The surplus maize is sold locally at GMB, providing affordable food options and supporting the livelihoods of nearby farmers.
“Our main crop is maize. We have already acquired machines to process oil and the by-products would be used for cattle and pig feeds,” he said.
The farm’s fish ponds are a testament to the potential of aquaculture in addressing protein deficiencies.
Tilapia is the primary fish type and is reared, growing in well-maintained ponds that use recirculating water systems to minimize waste.
This approach ensures efficient resource use while producing high-quality fish for local markets.
Tungwarara emphasized the importance of fish farming in combating malnutrition, particularly in rural areas.
“Fish is a rich source of protein and essential nutrients. By promoting aquaculture, we are not only creating jobs but also improving the health of our people,” he said.
The poultry section of the farm is a hive of activity with hundreds of free range chickens raised for both meat and egg production.
The farm employs modern housing systems that ensure the birds’ welfare while maximizing productivity.
The farm’s animal husbandry operations include cattle and goats, all reared with a focus on sustainable practices.
Livestock are fed on a diet of farm-grown fodder and crop residues, reducing the need for external feed sources.
The 800 plus cattle herd, primarily composed of several breeds, is bred for both meat and dairy production.
Tungwarara’s farm is more than just a commercial enterprise; it is a hub of innovation and community development.
By integrating maize production, fish farming, poultry rearing, and animal husbandry, the farm demonstrates how diverse agricultural activities can coexist harmoniously, benefiting both the environment and the economy.
Munacho Gwamanda- The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has dismissed a statement purportedly issued by individuals claiming to be soldiers planning a coup against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
This comes amid growing internal rifts within the ruling ZANU PF party and escalating tensions between Mnangagwa and his deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
ZNA spokesperson Alphios Makotore told ZimEye that he was unaware of any officers involved in the alleged coup attempt.
“Which officer and on what subject issues?” he questioned, before adding, “I don’t comment on such issues since I am no longer in that office. Kindly contact Defence Headquarters.”
His response follows a statement released by an anonymous group claiming to represent sections of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
The group, speaking in a military-style declaration, accused President Mnangagwa of orchestrating the assassinations of high-ranking army generals and warned of impending action to “protect the Constitution from counter-revolutionary gangsters.”
The coup threats come in the wake of controversial statements by Blessing Geza, a war veteran and Zanu PF central committee member with strong ties to security forces.
Geza has repeatedly alleged that Mnangagwa his family and thier close allies, were corrupt and are distroying the country.
His outbursts have fueled speculation that discontent within the security sector is reaching a breaking point.
Geza has also been vocal about the ongoing power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga.
The vice president, who played a pivotal role in the 2017 military coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, is believed to be losing patience with Mnangagwa’s consolidation of power.
Reports suggest that Chiwenga, backed by senior military officials, is growing increasingly frustrated with Mnangagwa’sgovernance, patronage networks, and the marginalization of key military figures in government affairs.
The rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga has been a defining feature of Zimbabwean politics since 2017.
While Mnangagwa initially relied on military support to ascend to power, his subsequent moves to sideline key army figures have deepened divisions.
Chiwenga, a former army general with strong ties to the security establishment, has maintained a strategic silence in recent months, leading to speculation that he may be preparing to challenge Mnangagwa’s rule.
The recent alledged military statement directly referenced Mnangagwa’s alleged role in a series of political assassinations, naming prominent figures such as:
The statement also accused Mnangagwa’s administration of widespread corruption, economic mismanagement, and the systematic oppression of war veterans and junior security officers.
The statement issued by the anonymous military group outlined a plan to “take action” against Mnangagwa’s government if conditions did not improve. It called on junior officers in the army, police, and intelligence services to prepare for a“constitutional intervention.”
“The majority of you are living in abject poverty while the ruling elite loots national resources,” the statement read. “We urge you to defend the Constitution from kleptocratic rulers who treat the national treasury as their personal bank account.”
Additionally, the statement warned key Mnangagwa loyalists, including:
The group accused them of insulting war veterans and manipulating the security sector for political gain.
Despite the coup threats, the Mnangagwa administration has maintained a firm grip on the state security apparatus.
The government has ramped up surveillance, and there are reports of increased deployments of intelligence operatives within the armed forces.
Analysts warn that while the statement may not signal an immediate coup, it reflects growing discontent within the security establishment.

Kirsty Coventry, a leading candidate to become the next president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has sparked controversy with her strong stance on transgender athletes. Coventry has expressed support for a blanket ban on transgender athletes competing against individuals of the opposite sex, which could significantly impact those aiming to participate in such events and pursue Olympic gold.
In addition to her Olympic achievements, Coventry serves as Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister.
The former Olympic swimmer, who has been a member of the IOC executive board since 2018, is now campaigning for the IOC presidency. Coventry has voiced her belief in a blanket ban on transgender athletes in Olympic events, as reported by the UK’s The Telegraph.
“Protecting women’s sports and maintaining fairness in female categories is crucial,” Coventry said. “It’s a priority for us all to come together on this issue.”
She pointed to increasing scientific research, stating, “We aren’t discussing how this issue affects men’s sports, which highlights the need to protect women’s sports.”
Coventry, who has earned seven Olympic medals in swimming, including two golds, also argued that “transgender women possess physical advantages in female categories, which could deny women equal opportunities.” Drawing from her experience, she emphasized the challenges of allowing men to compete against women, especially in contact sports.
Coventry also reflected on her role overseeing the Paris Olympics, where athletes Lin Yuting and Imane Khelif won gold in boxing, despite having been previously excluded from competing in women’s events by the International Boxing Association. “We will always learn from such experiences,” Coventry noted, adding that the Paris Olympics were an important moment for such lessons.

The timing of Defence Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri’s trip to India raises suspicions, especially amid the ongoing Zanu PF power struggles. As the party faces a deep internal divide, one faction aligns with President Mnangagwa’s bid for a third term, while another vehemently opposes it, creating an atmosphere of political tension.
Muchinguri-Kashiri’s trip, officially to attend the Defence Ministers’ Conclave in India, appears to serve as more than just a diplomatic mission. The Conclave, running until February 15, is expected to discuss global defence and security issues of mutual interest. While these topics are crucial, the timing suggests there might be a hidden agenda behind her visit.
Her bilateral meetings with Indian officials, including her Indian counterpart, could provide a cover for behind-the-scenes political maneuvering. Could she be securing support for Mnangagwa’s third term ambitions? Or is this a move to strengthen her own position in the party as factions vie for influence? Given the high stakes within Zanu PF, her presence in India could signal more than just a routine diplomatic engagement.
As Muchinguri-Kashiri attends the conclave, her actions and the outcomes of her meetings will undoubtedly be scrutinized in the context of Zimbabwe’s ongoing political turbulence.
Harare, Zimbabwe – President Emmerson Mnangagwa suffered a major embarrassment at the National Heroes Acre, as his small group of supporters was overpowered by the voices of a massive crowd singing in opposition, exposing deep divisions within the ruling Zanu PF party.
The chaotic scenes, which unfolded two days ago, sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe, further highlighting the growing discontent with Mnangagwa’s leadership. This comes at a time when his handful of backers remain unhinged, pushing for an indefinite extension of his presidency beyond constitutional limits.
Mnangagwa’s Backers Demand “Eternal Rule” Amidst Growing Resistance
Leading the call for Mnangagwa’s continued rule is Zanu PF Secretary for War Veterans, Douglas Mahiya, who issued threats against fellow war veterans who oppose extending Mnangagwa’s presidency. Mahiya directly warned those challenging the Zanu PF leader’s rule, stating that they could be “stopped from speaking indefinitely.”
His comments were seemingly directed at Blessed Runesu Geza and his faction of war veterans, who have been vocal in their opposition to Mnangagwa’s leadership, citing corruption, nepotism, and economic collapse as reasons why the president should step down.
A Party in Crisis: Mnangagwa’s Supporters Threaten Opponents
Speaking at a war veterans’ gathering in Bulawayo, Mahiya shockingly suggested that, under different leadership, Zanu PF could have declared a state of emergency and suspended elections indefinitely, effectively turning Zimbabwe into a dictatorship.
“We were sanctioned by the West. That’s a sign that we are in a war. When a country has sanctions, when people are in a war, they can stop going for elections and declare a state of emergency,” Mahiya stated, arguing that Mnangagwa had been “too lenient” by allowing elections to continue.
Mahiya justified extending Mnangagwa’s term, arguing that Western sanctions constituted a “war situation”, which, under a different leader, could have led to the suspension of democracy.
“Had Mnangagwa not been a principled leader, the ruling party could have declared a state of emergency, suspended elections, and ensured his indefinite rule,” he said, implying that only death could remove Mnangagwa from power.
Mnangagwa’s Supporters Face Backlash
While a small faction within Zanu PF continues to push for Mnangagwa’s rule beyond 2030, his presence at the National Heroes Acre painted a completely different picture. His supporters were overwhelmed and drowned out by the voices of the majority in attendance, who sang in a manner that embarrassed the Zanu PF leader.
The incident underscores the deepening fractures within the ruling party, as tensions escalate between those supporting Mnangagwa’s indefinite rule and those demanding change.
Mahiya Issues More Threats: “We Will Stop You”
In a chilling statement, Mahiya openly threatened war veterans who refuse to back Mnangagwa, warning that they would face consequences for speaking out.
“If you refuse, we have the right, although forbidden by the law, to act otherwise to stop you indefinitely from saying such things,” Mahiya declared, suggesting that dissent would not be tolerated.
He also dismissed the idea that war veterans had independent political agency, saying:
“Going to Zambia (for training during the liberation struggle) does not give you the power to refuse what the majority want. If you do not follow what people want, your war veteran status is useless.”
A Desperate Push for Mnangagwa’s Extended Rule
Mahiya insisted that Mnangagwa’s leadership should be extended indefinitely, invoking Resolution Number One from the Zanu PF National People’s Conference in Bulawayo, which endorsed Mnangagwa’s rule until at least 2030.
“The president will not say what I am saying, but if we take the principle of the revolution that the minority is subordinate to the majority, it means the president has to accept as well what has been said by the people,” Mahiya said, implying that Mnangagwa himself must accept an extension to his term.
Factionalism Threatens Zanu PF’s Future
Mahiya also accused opposing war veterans of working with the opposition to create instability within Zanu PF, warning that the party could lose the next election if internal divisions continue.
“There are different war veteran associations coming up so that during the next elections, Zanu PF loses. They want to divide you so that you disagree with your party and government,” he claimed.
However, the reality at Heroes Acre two days ago suggests that Mnangagwa is quickly losing control, as the masses no longer align with his leadership, despite the desperate attempts of his inner circle to keep him in power.
What Happens Next?
The embarrassing scenes at Heroes Acre serve as a clear warning that Mnangagwa’s grip on power is slipping. While a few die-hard supporters continue to push for his indefinite rule, the public display of resistance signals that his presidency is facing growing rejection, even within Zanu PF.
The ruling party is now at a crossroads—will they force through an unconstitutional extension of Mnangagwa’s rule, or will the rising tide of dissent lead to internal collapse and potential leadership change?
With elections looming and factionalism deepening, one thing is certain: Mnangagwa’s rule is no longer as secure as it once seemed.
EXPOSED: Government Forces Vendors to Open Bank Accounts While Million-Dollar Looters Remain Untouched
Double Standards in Zimbabwe’s Financial Crackdown?
Harare, Zimbabwe – In a move that has sparked widespread outrage, the Zimbabwean government has issued a directive forcing informal vendors to open bank accounts and adopt Point of Sale (POS) machines for all transactions. This mandate, supposedly aimed at boosting tax compliance and financial transparency, raises critical questions: Why are small-scale traders being aggressively targeted while politically connected individuals implicated in massive corruption scandals remain untouched?
The hypocrisy is glaring. While vendors—who earn a living selling fruits, vegetables, and second-hand clothes—are now required to submit to strict financial regulations, individuals like Wicknell Chivayo, known for flaunting stacks of US dollars and securing multi-million-dollar government contracts without accountability, continue to operate with impunity.
A New Burden on Vendors, A Free Pass for the Elite
Announced by Information Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere, the new policy dictates that all informal traders must open bank accounts upon registration and adopt electronic transactions as part of the formal economy. The government argues that this will improve tax collection, but critics see it as another way to target the struggling poor while the politically connected rich remain untouchable.
Currently, local authorities are responsible for licensing vendors, but under the new system, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) will play a central role in ensuring compliance with tax laws. A Domestic Inter-agency Team is also being established to crack down on non-compliant vendors, raising fears of harassment and arbitrary arrests.
Yet, while vendors are being policed, no such enforcement exists for high-profile figures accused of looting millions from state coffers.
Selective Law Enforcement: Why No Scrutiny for Chivayo and Other Elites?
Zimbabweans are still reeling from revelations of high-profile corruption cases, where individuals like Wicknell Chivayo have been linked to controversial multi-million-dollar deals. Chivayo, a known ZANU-PF associate, has publicly flaunted massive wads of cash in a country where ordinary citizens are required to justify deposits as low as US$1,000.
Key Questions the Government Must Answer:
1. Why are vendors being forced into formal banking systems while individuals caught on camera counting millions in cash face no financial scrutiny?
2. Why are looters of public funds not being investigated under the same financial transparency rules?
3. How does forcing vendors to open bank accounts address the real economic crisis caused by corruption and mismanagement?
The silence from authorities is deafening. Despite past scandals and public outrage, Chivayo and other politically connected elites continue to operate without any requirement to disclose the sources of their massive wealth. Meanwhile, street vendors struggling to make ends meet are being hounded by financial regulations that seem designed to oppress rather than empower.
A War on the Poor?
This latest move fits into a broader pattern of the Zimbabwean government targeting the most vulnerable members of society while shielding those in power. Instead of addressing real economic issues such as inflation, corruption, and unemployment, authorities have opted to police the informal sector, which provides livelihoods for millions.
Experts warn that forcing vendors into the banking system without addressing the root causes of economic decay—corruption, policy inconsistency, and lack of investor confidence—will only push more people into extreme poverty.
What Happens Next?
With vendors now required to comply with electronic payment systems and formal banking, enforcement measures will likely lead to increased harassment from police and municipal authorities, who have a long history of cracking down on informal traders.
The real question is: Will the same energy be applied to investigating and prosecuting those responsible for looting the country’s wealth? If history is any indicator, the answer is a resounding no.
For now, Zimbabwean vendors must brace for yet another government policy that punishes the poor while protecting the powerful. The fight for justice continues.
Have Your Say:
Do you think the government’s policy is fair? Should high-profile individuals like Wicknell Chivayo also be forced to open bank accounts and declare their financial dealings? Share your thoughts!

Manchester City’s Champions League ambitions are hanging in the balance after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their play-off tie.
Despite Erling Haaland’s double, including a late penalty, City’s collapse in the final moments allowed Madrid to snatch victory.
Kylian Mbappe had equalized for Madrid on the hour, before Haaland restored City’s lead from the spot. However, Brahim Diaz scored against his former club with a rebound effort, and Jude Bellingham sealed the win with a stoppage-time strike.
Madrid’s victory was largely due to City’s self-inflicted errors, as they surrendered possession and failed to see out the game. Ederson’s inability to parry the ball away from goal and Rico Lewis’s failure to hold off Vinicius Junior proved costly.
The defeat leaves City facing an uphill task to progress, with the second leg still to come.
While there is still hope, City’s susceptibility to conceding goals in quick succession will be a major concern for manager Pep Guardiola.

Taurai Kandishaya, a prominent official in Zanu PF’s youth league, has claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa could continue in office beyond 2030.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kandishaya expressed confidence in Mnangagwa’s leadership, emphasizing his strong bond with his deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
He remarked, “Our President, Cde ED Mnangagwa, has a sound relationship with his lieutenants, specifically Vice President Chiwenga, who is described as his young brother.”
Kandishaya also warned that any efforts to undermine President Mnangagwa would face resistance from Vice President Chiwenga. “Attempts to undermine President ED will meet resistance from VP Chiwenga,” he stated, adding, “If you continue criticizing President ED, our dear VP will defend his brother by ensuring his term is extended.”

The announcement which was first made on 3 February, is now due for official signed distribution today.
The ZDF spokesman Alphios Makotore, contacted by ZimEye over the broad statement, appeared to contradict himself when he said he does not comment on such issues. He asked saying,
“Which officer and on what subject issues?,”
He continued saying, “I don’t comment on such issues since I am no longer in that office. May kindly contact Defence Headquarters.”
The command element’s warning against the arresting of war veterans, has since been violated by ZRP Spokesperson Paul Nyathi, in a development the defence forces indicates today attracts the implementation of constitutional brute force.

(Disclaimer: This statement is issued by me as a member of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces. However, I am not representing the Zimbabwe Defense Forces as an institution.)
Thank you, commanders, for this opportunity. We will not be taking any questions at the moment but will provide a signed statement within 10 working days.
Good afternoon, fellow Zimbabweans.
Today is February 3, 2025, our time is 16:08 HRS.
Following our last address on November 13, 2017, we clearly stated that the Zimbabwe Defense Forces will uphold the Constitution and will not abandon it to be abused by a few individuals and counter-revolutionary gangsters. The Zimbabwe Defense Forces the main reason it was created is to:
• Protect its people
• its national security interests, and its territorial integrity
• And uphold this Constitution
I would like to refer you to Section 212 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment of 2013), number 20. Please it is important to note that the Defences Forces remains a main stakeholder, in respect to the gains of the liberation struggle and when these are threatened, we are obligated to take action.
Warning to President Emmerson Mnangagwa
Firstly I would like to warn the first secretary of ZANU PF, the commander in chief of the defence forces, President Emmerson Mnangagwa that the time of killing former and serving army generals must come to an end now. This must stop forthwith. We are now aware that President Mnangagwa and Owen “Mudha” Ncube were responsible for the deaths of high-ranking army generals since 1980.
And the following souls assassinated by President Mnangagwa rest in peace:
1. Zvinavashe Vitalis
2. Mujuru Solomon
3. Gumbo Charles
4. Moyo Sibusiso
5. Shiri Perance
6. Gunda Armstrong
7. Lifa Gideon
8. Mugoba Trust
9. Nyakayaramba Douglas
10. Muleya Francis (sic)
11. Chimoyo Edzayi
12. Zimondi Paradzai
13. Chaminuka Michael
This list is endless, including all ministers who were assassinated by Mnangagwa during the reign of the late President Robert Mugabe.
We are now instituting private investigations into these deaths and bring to book everyone involved in these deaths. We will leave no stone unturned.
*********
I move on to my address to the junior officers, members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, police, prisons and central intelligence organizations. We have taken note that the current administration of President Mnangagwa has abandoned you to suffer. You have fallen into the hands of a kleptocratic rulers who treat the country Treasury as the source of wealth, spending funds on luxury goods and extravagance as they fit, many of these leaders secretly transfer public funds into secret accounts in foreign countries to provide for themselves if removed from power; the majority of you are living in abject poverty with families suffering most. We would like you to prepare to protect the Constitution from dying in the hands of these corrupt ruthless leaders. We call you tonight to take our instructions in the next few days, if our constitution continues to be killed, the majority of you are failing to send their children to school because of poverty by the current administration, this country is rich with more than 62 minerals that can transform Zimbabwe into an upper income country, if selfish leaders are removed.
A warning to the following counter revolutionary agents:
Ncube Muda, Owen
Ziyambi Ziyambi,
Garwe Daniel
Kazembe Kazembe,
Mavetera Tatenda.
Muswere Jefan,
Chivayo Wicknell,
Reckless utterances by the above counter revolutionary thugs insulting veterans of the struggle including serving and retired generals, must come to an end now; Let it be known that the end will be bloody and we mean it.
To the veterans of the liberation struggle; in terms of Section 23 subsection one of the Constitution Of Zimbabwe, amendment number 20 of 2013- the state and all institutions and agents of government at every level must accord due respect and honour and recognition to the veterans of the liberation struggle, that is to say- Part A those who fought in the liberation struggle.
Part B, those who assisted the fighters in the war of liberation struggle- The mujibas and Chimbiwdos,
Part C- those who were imprisoned, detained or restricted for political reasons during the liberation struggle.
Part Two, the state must take responsible measures, including legislative measures for the welfare and economic empowerment of these veterans of the liberation struggle. We would like to warn the President Mnangagwa to clearly stay away from the war veterans. They have a right to express themselves if they feel that their constitutional rights are being infringed. We have placed surveillance on all veterans of the struggle who are speaking their minds with intention to protect them from clandestine assassination operations, which are currently being planned. Any arrest or assassination as of now, will be a declaration of war in this country. I have to repeat again, we have placed surveillance on all veterans who are speaking their mind.
We have placed surveillance on all veterans who are speaking their mind, with intention to protect them from clandestine assassination operations, which are currently being planned. Any arrest or assassination as of now will be a declaration of war in the country.
To the youth, we call upon you to realize the future of our dear country is in your hands. Do not sell out your freedom with dirty pieces of silver from filthy politicians; we would like to warn you to stay out of these succession issues; we will deal ruthlessly with all who will not follow these simple instructions. Please take time to learn from what happened in November 2017 when the late President Mugabe was abusing the Constitution together with his close allies. As a major stakeholder of Zimbabwe, we do not hesitate to deal with the youths who were committing various crimes in the name of the President. To the church and the religious organizations, we call upon you and your congregation to pray for your country and preach the gospel of peace.
To the courts- Stay away from politics. I repeat, you are an independent of arm of government, which, in terms of section 164 subsection 2, part A, which clearly states that, I quote, “neither the state nor any institution or agents of government at any level, and no other person may interfere with the functioning of the courts. Therefore, I urge you to stick to the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Do not be used to fight factional wars, as it will end in tears for some of you who will disregard the constitution of Zimbabwe.
In conclusion: we would like to put it on record that this is not a treasonous statement, as it is a statement in terms of section 212, of the constitution of Zimbabwe on functions of defense forces. As we did in November 2017 and a high court order validated the removal of the late president of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe when he and his family members and thugs surrounding him were causing suffering of the people in Zimbabwe. Therefore, we strongly warn politicians that they must not be used by greedy individuals who want to take this country to a violent confrontation; we shall be communicating with the nation through these unusual channels because of massive infiltration of President Mnangagwa’s secret agency within the rank of the Zimbabwe defense forces. I thank you, fellow Zimbabweans.-ZimEye
By Munacho Gwamanda-A faction of war veterans aligned with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has issued a bold ultimatum to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, demanding his immediate resignation.
The group, led by activist and former ZANU-PF member Blessing Geza, has warned Mnangagwa that he risks being ousted in the same manner as the late Robert Mugabe, who was forced out of office through a military coup in 2017.
Geza, who has been vocal about Mnangagwa’s alleged misgovernance, corruption, and push for an unconstitutional third term, has become a thorn in the president’s side.
He has accused Mnangagwa of reneging on a supposed gentlemen’s agreement with Chiwenga, in which the presidency was expected to rotate after two terms.
However, Mnangagwa’s refusal to step down has sparked growing tensions within ZANU-PF, with factions now openly expressing their dissatisfaction.
The calls for Mnangagwa’s resignation come in the wake of Vice President Chiwenga’s speech at the National Heroes Acre last week, where he made a thinly veiled attack on corrupt businessmen linked to the president.
Chiwenga, who played a crucial role in the 2017 coup, warned against individuals using state resources for personal enrichment, a remark widely interpreted as targeting Mnangagwa’s close associates, including his sons and powerful business allies.
Sources within the security sector suggest that Mnangagwa and his inner circle are growing increasingly anxious.
“The president received the message loud and clear. He is now panicking, and so is his family. His sons have been placed under heightened state security as fears grow over potential moves against them,” a senior government source revealed.
As tensions escalate, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a press statement seeking the arrest of Geza, also known as “Bombshell,” on multiple criminal charges.
According to the ZRP statement released on February 12, 2025, Geza is wanted for alleged theft, undermining the authority of the president, and incitement to commit public violence.
The charges, however, are widely seen as politically motivated, aimed at silencing one of the most vocal critics of Mnangagwa’s leadership.
Geza’s supporters argue that the accusations are trumped-up charges meant to neutralize him ahead of a potential showdown within ZANU-PF.
“This is a classic tactic of the Mnangagwa regime—using the police to silence those who expose corruption and demand accountability,” said a war veteran aligned with Chiwenga’s camp.
Invoicing is a crucial task for businesses of all sizes, yet it can often be time-consuming and prone to human error. Thankfully, invoice generators have made this process easier, more efficient, and more professional. Whether you’re a freelancer, a small business owner, or managing an enterprise, choosing the right invoice generator can save you time, ensure accuracy, and streamline your financial operations.
This ultimate guide will walk you through the key factors to consider when selecting the best invoice generator for your business.
The first step in choosing an invoice generator is understanding the unique requirements of your business. Not every invoice generator is designed the same, and the right tool for you will depend on factors such as:
Website Link: http://www.zintego.com
You don’t want to spend more time learning how to use the invoicing tool than actually generating invoices. The user interface (UI) and overall ease of use should be a priority.
Look for a tool with a clean, simple layout that allows you to create invoices with just a few clicks. The best invoice generators should be intuitive enough for you to navigate without a steep learning curve.
Most invoice generators offer drag-and-drop features, customizable templates, and straightforward forms to make the process as seamless as possible. Try a free trial before committing to ensure it’s easy to use and fits your workflow.

Your invoices are an extension of your business, so they should reflect your brand’s identity. Choose an invoice generator that allows for easy customization. Look for the following features:

If you have clients on retainer or provide subscription-based services, it’s essential to choose an invoice generator that supports automated and recurring invoicing.

Your invoice generator should integrate seamlessly with your accounting system. This integration reduces the chance of data entry errors and simplifies bookkeeping.
Many modern invoice generators integrate with tools like QuickBooks, Xero, and FreshBooks. By syncing your invoices with accounting software, you can track expenses, profits, and tax liabilities in real-time. This integration also makes tax season less stressful since you’ll have all your financial records in one place.

A key benefit of digital invoice generators is the ability to include payment options directly on the invoice. Look for tools that offer integrated payment processing through options like PayPal, credit card payments, or bank transfers. Some generators even offer discounted processing fees for specific payment methods.
By enabling clients to pay directly from the invoice, you’ll reduce friction and accelerate payment cycles. Choose an invoice generator that supports multiple payment options to accommodate your clients’ preferences.
Website Link: http://www.entovo.com
Your business and client information need to be protected. Ensure that the invoice generator you select complies with security standards, such as data encryption and secure cloud storage.
Reliable customer support is essential when choosing any software solution. Even the most user-friendly platforms can sometimes encounter issues, and you need quick assistance when problems arise.
Opt for an invoice generator with responsive customer support options like live chat, email support, or phone assistance. Having access to support ensures that you can resolve any issues promptly and continue with your invoicing operations without disruption.
Choosing the right invoice generator is an important decision that can help your business save time, reduce errors, and improve client relationships. By considering factors such as ease of use, customization, automation, integration with accounting software, payment options, security, and customer support, you can find a solution that best fits your needs.
Take the time to explore your options and, if possible, try out a few free trials before settling on the right tool. In the long run, the right invoice generator will not only improve your invoicing process but also contribute to the overall efficiency and success of your business.
Slot machines operate on a structured probability system designed to maintain player engagement. The odds of winning vary across different payout levels, influencing how long players continue playing. Below are some key probabilities often embedded into slot machine algorithms:
These calculated probabilities keep players engaged while ensuring they reinvest their winnings into the game.
Toto Slot and Slot777 incorporate a strategic payout system where medium-tier wins, such as an 80:1 payout, trigger enough excitement to keep players spinning. This payout is significant enough to create anticipation but not large enough to encourage players to walk away with their earnings.
Many players believe that certain spins are “almost a win,” which fuels their motivation to keep playing. This phenomenon is a result of strategic design, as near misses create the perception of being close to success.
A high-tier payout, such as a 150:1 reward, appears so infrequently that most players never experience it. However, occasional payouts maintain a player’s belief that a jackpot is within reach, encouraging prolonged play.
The rapid advancement of technology and digital platforms has transformed the gambling industry. The rise of mobile applications and high-speed internet has made accessing online platforms like Toto Slot and Slot777 easier than ever before.
The psychology behind slot machines—both physical and online—ensures that players remain engaged through a mix of carefully timed rewards, near-win experiences, and technological advancements. Platforms like Toto Slot and Slot777 leverage these strategies to maximize user engagement, making online slots one of the fastest-growing segments in the gambling industry.

By A Correspondent | The Zimbabwe Republic Force has virtually split into two police forces as the state launched a hunt for the spokesman of the Zimbabwe Liberators Platform, Blessed Geza.
Yesterday, Geza announced instructions that officers will not hinder protesters campaigning against the Mnangagwa-2030 presidency agenda through which some ZANU PF MPs are seeking to change the constitution and cancel 2028 elections.
According to a ZRP statement, the law enforcement agents are seeking the whereabouts of vocal war veteran, Blessed Geza Runesu. They are appealing to the public to help assist in his arrest.
The police have revealed that Geza is facing 4 accounts of criminal charges, one of which includes undermining the authority and insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The ZRP warned anyone harbouring Geza that they risk being arrested for being accomplices.
Arresting or even merely harassing Geza is bound to trigger Mnangagwa’s removal. Changing the constitution will make things worse and a military statement released through informal channels is clear that the army has case law entitlement to remove any president at any time.
As a result, Geza’s law enforcement statement carries more effectual authority than the ZRP spokesman’s.

In a move that raises both questions and opportunities, Mr. Stanley Kondongwe, a well-known ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been appointed as a Commissioner in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS).
His new role has sparked significant conversation, with many analysts raising doubts about the motivations behind the appointment.
However, it is impossible to ignore the broader implications of this development for both the ZPCS and the country’s evolving approach to prison reform.
Kondongwe, who also serves as the Managing Director of Byword Motors, was recognized at a recent business meeting in Masvingo, where the ZPCS Commissioner General, Dr. Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu, emphasized the organization’s shift towards rehabilitation and economic empowerment.
At the event, Chihobvu called for greater business involvement in the prison system, announcing, “Our facilities offer ample land, a ready workforce, and a supportive environment for business ventures that align with our goals.”
This statement underscores ZPCS’s intention to integrate economic opportunities into the rehabilitation of inmates. It is clear that the prison service, traditionally seen as a punitive institution, is now positioning itself as a potential player in Zimbabwe’s broader economic landscape through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
The potential benefits of such initiatives are significant: they could not only improve the economic viability of the prison system but also provide inmates with essential skills and work experience that could aid their reintegration into society after their release.
Mr. Kondongwe’s appointment as Commissioner has been hailed by ZPCS as a step toward commercializing and modernizing the correctional system. In his speech, Commissioner General Chihobvu highlighted this goal, stating, “The inclusion of Mr. Stanley Kondongwe reflects ZPCS’s commitment to entrepreneurship and the integration of business practices into our correctional efforts.” Kondongwe’s background in business and his ties to Mnangagwa suggest that his role may be an important part of a broader strategy to infuse Zimbabwe’s state institutions with entrepreneurial initiatives.
However, the move has not been without its critics. Some observers have questioned whether Kondongwe’s appointment is motivated by political loyalty rather than merit. The question remains: Does his proximity to Mnangagwa signal an attempt to further consolidate power within Zanu PF’s ranks, or is it a genuine step toward reforming the prison system and empowering Zimbabwe’s incarcerated population?
Dr. Chihobvu’s presentation also emphasized the launch of the Pathway to Reintegration Foundation (PAREF), which seeks to provide former inmates with the skills and support needed to reintegrate into society successfully. This initiative, he explained, “aims to offer practical support, enabling former prisoners to build sustainable livelihoods.” PAREF’s focus on rehabilitation and reintegration further illustrates the shifting paradigm within ZPCS, as it pivots from its traditional punitive role to one that emphasizes restorative justice and economic empowerment.
The inclusion of business leaders like Kondongwe in the ZPCS fold raises intriguing questions about the future of Zimbabwe’s correctional system. Will Kondongwe’s experience in the private sector bring about tangible change for the incarcerated, or will it merely serve the interests of a political elite eager to strengthen its influence over state institutions?
Ultimately, the success of these reforms will depend on the ability of ZPCS to balance rehabilitation with effective oversight and accountability. As Chihobvu concluded, “Together, we can continue to build a correctional system that not only rehabilitates but also empowers and uplifts.” However, whether this vision can be realized amidst ongoing political and economic challenges remains to be seen.

By Munacho Gwamanda-Controversial businessman and Zanu PF bootlicker, Wicknell Chivhayo has once again demonstrated his deep ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s corrupt network by purchasing a brand-new 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge for Mnangagwa’s chief financial enabler, Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
This extravagant display of wealth comes at a time when Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has been warning against the rampant looting of state resources by politically connected elites.
The $1.2 million ultra-luxury vehicle, which Chivhayo claims to have fully paid for, including duties and import taxes, is set to go into production in April and will be delivered in July 2025.
Chivhayo, who has a well-documented history of benefitting from government tenders and patronage, announced the gift in an effusive and sycophantic statement in which he hailed Tagwirei as a “businessman of unquestionable integrity” and a “mentor.”
“As the famous Seventh-day Adventist saying goes, ‘Each new year of life is a GIFT from God, a time to reflect, give THANKS and RENEW our commitment to His purpose’… Today I want to celebrate a man whose wisdom, resilience and FAITH have shaped both businesses and lives alike – MR KUDAKWASHE REGIMOND TAGWIREI,” Chivhayo wrote in a lengthy tribute filled with religious overtones and exaggerated praise.
Chivhayo further lauded Tagwirei’s business empire, which he claimed had “transcended industries and crossed borders into Africa, Europe, Asia, and beyond.”
He also praised Tagwirei’s “commitment to ethical business,” despite widespread allegations of state capture, illicit wealth accumulation, and monopolistic control over Zimbabwe’s fuel, mining, and banking sectors.
The timing of this gift is particularly significant, as it comes amidst increasing tensions within Zanu PF.
Chiwenga has reportedly been growing frustrated with the looting of state resources by Mnangagwa’s inner circle, particularly the so-called “Zvigananda” elite that continues to drain the country’s coffers through opaque deals and state-funded contracts.
By rewarding Tagwirei with a lavish gift, Chivhayo is effectively rebuffing Chiwenga’s calls for accountability, reinforcing the impunity enjoyed by those within Mnangagwa’s faction.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan, finished in an olive green color—symbolising, according to Chivhayo, Tagwirei’s “heart of love and solid faith”—features a custom two-tone olive green and cream interior.
Chivhayo described the gift as a “small token of appreciation” for the impact Tagwirei has had on his life and the business community.
Critics argue that this brazen display of wealth is yet another indication of how Zimbabwe’s ruling elite continues to enrich itself while the majority of the population struggles with economic hardship.
The gift raises further questions about the sources of Chivhayo’s immense wealth and whether financial and anti-corruption authorities are properly scrutinising his dealings.

In a move signaling further political consolidation, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed Apollonia Munzverengwi from her position as Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Mashonaland East Province and replaced her with Itayi Ndudzo, a figure linked to the influential Rushwaya family.
The announcement was formalized through a press statement issued by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, on February 11, 2025. The statement confirmed that Munzverengwi was removed in terms of Section 108(1a) of the Constitution, while Ndudzo’s appointment was carried out under Section 104 Subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
This development has sparked speculation about internal power struggles within the ruling ZANU-PF party, particularly between Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. Munzverengwi, who is reportedly a relative of Chiwenga, is seen as a casualty of the ongoing political realignments within the party.
Meanwhile, Ndudzo, the new Minister, has close ties to the Rushwaya family, known to be relatives of President Mnangagwa. This appointment further solidifies the Rushwaya influence within the government, following other high-profile appointments and controversies involving members of the family.
Political Implications
Munzverengwi’s dismissal comes at a time when ZANU-PF factional battles are intensifying. Mnangagwa, who is reportedly eyeing a third term despite internal opposition, appears to be strengthening his grip on power by purging Chiwenga-linked officials and replacing them with his loyalists.
Observers say the move is also strategic ahead of the 2028 elections, as Mnangagwa seeks to consolidate his authority and neutralize potential challengers within ZANU-PF. Chiwenga, who led the 2017 military coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, has long been rumored to harbor presidential ambitions, and any influence he retains in key provinces could pose a threat to Mnangagwa’s long-term plans.
Mnangagwa’s Growing Influence in Mashonaland East
Mashonaland East is a key province in Zimbabwe’s political landscape, serving as a traditional stronghold for ZANU-PF. The replacement of Munzverengwi with Ndudzo suggests Mnangagwa wants absolute control over the region, ensuring that his allies dominate structures ahead of the next electoral cycle.
With Dr. Martin Rushwaya—another Mnangagwa loyalist—handling key administrative functions, the latest reshuffle further strengthens the president’s inner circle.
Mnangagwa’s decision to fire a Chiwenga ally and replace her with a Rushwaya-linked official is a clear indication of the ongoing political realignments within Zimbabwe’s ruling party. Whether this marks the beginning of a broader cabinet reshuffle or a targeted move against Chiwenga’s influence remains to be seen.
However, one thing is certain: Mnangagwa is tightening his grip on power, and any opposition—internal or external—will likely face similar purges as Zimbabwe inches closer to the next major elections.-ZimEye
By Munacho Gwamanda- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has suffered a significant setback after President Emmerson Mnangagwa dismissed his relative from government on Tuesday.
Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs Minister, Apollonia Munzverengwi, was fired just a day after public clashes erupted between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga’s supporters at the National Heroes Acre.
Legal practitioner Itayi Ndudzo swiftly replaced her.
Munzverengwi, a well-known ally of Chiwenga, played a crucial role in mobilizing support for the vice president, who is widely believed to be positioning himself for a challenge against Mnangagwa ahead of the next ZANU PF elective congress.
Government insiders suggest that Munangagwa’s decision to axe Munzverengwi is part of a broader strategy to weaken Chiwenga’s influence, particularly in Mashonaland East—an influential province in ZANU PF’s power struggles.
The move mirrors previous purges that targeted military-backed figures who had helped Mnangagwa seize power from Robert Mugabe in the 2017 coup.
While the official statement on Munzverengwi’s dismissal cites constitutional provisions, political analysts argue that Mnangagwa is consolidating his grip on power amid speculation that Chiwenga may challenge him before the 2028 elections.
The vice president has recently maintained a low public profile, further fueling rumours of a deepening rift between the two leaders.

The trial of business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe, who face fraud charges related to a US$7 million scam in the failed Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme, has been postponed once more.
Scheduled to resume this Monday, the trial faced a delay due to the absence of Mpofu’s preferred legal counsel, Advocate Tapson Dzvetero, who is attending the funeral of his brother-in-law. As a result, the case was rescheduled for the 20th of this month, with proceedings expected to last for five days. The State plans to present three witnesses on that date.
Initially set to begin in October of last year, the trial was delayed following an application by the defendants seeking to refer the case to the Constitutional Court. However, the application was dismissed for lack of merit, allowing the trial to proceed.
Both Chimombe and Mpofu remain in custody after their bail application was denied last month. The court ruled that they posed a flight risk, as they face potential sentences of at least 20 years if convicted.
The charges against the two stem from allegations that they forged documents to secure a tender for supplying goats under the Presidential Goat Scheme. In addition, they are facing another fraud charge related to a US$9.2 million contract tied to the City of Harare’s street lights project.
By A Correspondent| War veterans in Midlands received US$150,000 and food hampers on Tuesday during the launch of the Presidential War Veterans Fund in Midlands province.
This marks the latest phase of the national rollout, following similar disbursements in Masvingo, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, and Bulawayo.
The fund, which totals US$1.5 million nationwide, is part of the government’s efforts to support veterans who played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
Speaking at the launch, Presidential Investment Advisor Paul Tungwarara emphasized the importance of honoring their sacrifices.
“We are here not merely to launch initiatives but to honor the bedrock of our nation’s freedom—our war veterans. Their courage is etched into our soil, their resilience woven into our flag. True gratitude is reflected in action, not just words,” he said.
The event drew emotional responses from veterans, many of whom expressed gratitude for the long-awaited recognition.
“This fund shows that our sacrifices were not in vain,” said Comrade Tichaona Moyo, a war veteran.
“We fought for Zimbabwe’s freedom, and today, we feel acknowledged. This support will make a real difference in our lives.”
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube used the occasion to condemn what he described as “malicious falsehoods” spread by critics of the government.
“We condemn without fear or favor the doomed machinations by sponsored sellouts who masquerade as public opinion leaders. This fund demonstrates our commitment to a people-centric, revolutionary leadership,” he said.
The Presidential War Veterans Fund is a key component of Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, which aims to transform the country into an upper-middle-income economy.
By providing financial support to veterans, the government seeks to address their economic challenges while honoring their contributions to the nation’s independence.
For many veterans, the fund represents more than just financial assistance—it is a symbol of national gratitude.
“We fought for freedom, but today, we are fighting for a better life,” said Comrade Moyo. “This fund is a step forward, and we are thankful.”
With the Midlands launch complete, the government is expected to continue rolling out the fund in other provinces, ensuring that all veterans receive the support they deserve.

A devastating incident has shaken South Korea after a teacher fatally stabbed an eight-year-old girl at an elementary school in Daejeon.
The teacher, a woman in her 40s, confessed to the crime and was found with self-inflicted stab wounds beside the victim .
The incident occurred on Monday evening, with the girl being discovered on the second floor of the school building at 6 pm local time.
Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The teacher had been experiencing depression and had requested a six-month leave of absence in December, but returned to school just 20 days later after being deemed fit to work .
What’s particularly alarming is that the teacher had displayed violent behavior just days before the stabbing, including putting another teacher in a headlock. Education officials had visited the school that morning to investigate the altercation, but no action was taken to prevent the tragedy.
South Korea’s acting president, Choi Sang-mok, has ordered an investigation into the case and urged authorities to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The school was closed on Tuesday, with locals laying flowers and tributes at the gate.
This incident has raised concerns about school safety in South Korea, which is generally considered a safe country with strict gun control laws. However, recent years have seen a rise in high-profile crimes, including stabbings .

Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared his thoughts on Isaac Mabaya’s senior debut in the FA Cup fourth-round match against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.
Mabaya, 19, came on as a substitute for the injured Joe Gomez in the 10th minute of the game.
He played until the 58th minute, when he was substituted for striker Darwin Nunez.
Despite his early introduction to the match, Mabaya delivered a solid performance but received a yellow card for kicking the ball away late in the first half.
In his post-match comments, Slot reflected on Mabaya’s debut and explained the reasoning behind the decision to substitute him.
“I think it’s a fantastic moment for every player to make their debut, and it was no different for him,” Slot said. “However, I felt it was necessary to take him off for two reasons. He was already on a yellow card, and with the intensity and physicality of the game, there were many duels.

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has essentially acknowledged that the current ZiG notes have lost both their value and quality.
In a statement made over the weekend, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr. John Mushayavanhu revealed that the government plans to introduce new banknotes.
Dr. Mushayavanhu said, “New ZiG notes with better quality will be introduced soon to replace the notes currently in circulation.”
This announcement comes amid growing concerns over the deteriorating state of the current currency, which has faced significant devaluation in recent months.
FULL TEXT: Mr. Speaker Sir, I rise on a point of national interest to draw the attention of this august house to the passing on of President Sam Nujoma, a titan of Pan-Africanism and a champion of Africa’s liberation, whose unwavering support for Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle will forever be etched in our nation’s history. As the last of the frontline states leaders to pass on, his demise marks the end of an era in both Namibian and African history.
President Nujoma’s lifelong work embodied the principles of Pan-Africanism, seeking to promote solidarity and cooperation among African people. Through his leadership of SWAPO, he spearheaded Namibia’s struggle for independence, inspiring a generation of Africans to resist colonialism, apartheid, and neo-colonialism. His commitment to Pan-Africanism was shaped by his encounters with other African luminaries like Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, and Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Here in Zimbabwe, we remember Nujoma’s steadfast support for our liberation struggle. We recall how he stood in solidarity with us during our independence celebrations in 1980, even as he continued to battle for Namibia’s freedom. In June 1981, Zimbabwe hosted a ‘Namibia Solidarity Week,’ featuring mass rallies led by President Nujoma, further solidifying the bonds of Pan-African solidarity between our nations.
As we reflect on Nujoma’s legacy, we acknowledge his significant contributions to the development of Pan-African thought. He played a crucial role in forming the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and promoting regional integration through the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Nujoma’s tireless efforts earned him numerous accolades, including the Lenin Peace Prize, the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize, and the Ho Chi Minh Peace Prize.
As we mourn the passing of this African icon, we draw inspiration from his life. Nujoma’s dedication to African liberation, his commitment to Pan-Africanism, and his pursuit of justice and equality are a testament to his enduring legacy. As Zimbabweans, particularly the younger generation, we can learn valuable lessons from Nujoma’s life about solidarity, perseverance, and sacrifice in pursuit of a united, empowered, and just Africa.
In light of these immense contributions, I propose that this House impress upon the Executive to declare a day of national mourning in Zimbabwe to honor the life and legacy of Sam Nujoma.

The factional struggles within Zanu PF took a new turn on Tuesday when the office of President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the immediate dismissal of Apollonia Munzverengwi from her position as Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, has, in accordance with Section 108(1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, removed Hon. CHIEF SECRETARY TO THE PRESIDENT AND CABINET
In a subsequent announcement, President Mnangagwa named Munzverengwi’s successor.
ZIMBABWE
PRESS STATEMENT
APPOINTMENT OF HONOURABLE ITAYI NDUDZO AS MINISTER OF STATE FOR PROVINCIAL AFFAIRS AND DEVOLUTION, MASHONALAND EAST PROVINCE
His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, has, in accordance with Section 104 Subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, appointed Hon. Itayi Ndudzo as the new Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Province, effective immediately.
Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Apollonia Munzverengwi, in what insiders describe as a move to weaken Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s grip on power.
Munzverengwi’s removal, announced in a press statement dated February 11, 2025, follows months of tensions within the ruling ZANU PF, where factions aligned to Mnangagwa and Chiwenga have been locked in a cold war over party succession. Munzverengwi, a known ally of Chiwenga, was instrumental in mobilizing support for the former army general, who many believe is positioning himself to challenge Mnangagwa ahead of the next ZANU PF elective congress.
Sources within government suggest that Mnangagwa’s decision to axe Munzverengwi is part of a broader strategy to purge Chiwenga’s loyalists, particularly in Mashonaland East, a province that has historically played a key role in ZANU PF power dynamics. The move echoes previous purges, including the sidelining of military-backed figures who helped Mnangagwa ascend to power after the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe.
While the official statement cites constitutional provisions, analysts argue that Mnangagwa is tightening his grip on power amid growing speculation that Chiwenga could make a move against him before 2028. The vice president has maintained a low public profile recently, fueling rumors of a rift between the two leaders.
By Munacho Gwamanda-Former Finance Minister and Zanu PF Politburo member Simba Makoni has dismissed reports of his death as baseless social media speculation.
Social media was flooded yesterday with claims that the former Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary had passed away, causing widespread confusion.
Speaking from his farm in Headlands, Makoni laughed off the rumours and assured the public that he was in good health.
“As you can tell, I am very much alive. The key message is that you have called me and spoken to me. I do not know where that rumour started, but I am now living in the rural areas, and I am very healthy,” he said.
Former Harare mayor Muchadeyi Masunda also confirmed Makoni was alive, stating that he had personally reached out to verify the claims.
“I had to telephone and speak to Dr. Makoni himself. I am pleased to confirm that he is alive and well. As it turns out, the‘Simba Makoni’ who passed away is the younger brother of Steve ‘Dhongi’ Makoni, the musician known for hits such as Sabhuku Nedhongi, Zvachonyana, and Chakafukidza Dzimba Matenga,” Masunda said.
Makoni’s political career dates back to 1980 when, at just 30 years old, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Agriculture by the late President Robert Mugabe.
He quickly rose through the ranks, later holding key Cabinet positions, including Minister of Industry and Economic Development, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Zimbabwe’s economic policies.
From 1983 to 1993, Makoni served as the Executive Secretary of SADC, becoming one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent figures in regional economic diplomacy.
His tenure was marked by efforts to foster economic cooperation and integration among member states.
After returning to Zimbabwe, he continued to hold influential government and business roles.
In 2000, he was appointed Finance Minister, a position he held until 2002.
During his tenure, he openly clashed with Mugabe and senior Zanu PF officials over economic policies, particularly his opposition to excessive state borrowing and Zimbabwe’s controversial land reform programme, which he warned would fuel inflation.
Makoni’s political trajectory took a dramatic turn in 2004 when he was allegedly encouraged by the late retired General Solomon Mujuru to challenge Mugabe at the Zanu PF elective congress ahead of the 2005 presidential elections.
Positioned as a reformist alternative within the party, Makoni initially gained support from Mujuru’s faction. However, he was later abandoned by his backers, who feared reprisals from Mugabe’s loyalists, leaving him politically isolated.
2008 he launched the Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn (MKD) movement, advocating for economic reforms and democratic governance.
He partnered with former Education Minister and academic Fay Chung, who played a key role in shaping the party’spolicies.
Makoni ran in the 2008 presidential election, securing a small percentage of the vote that ultimately divided the opposition in the first round, trailing far behind Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
MKD struggled to gain significant traction despite its initial promise due to internal divisions and limited grassroots support.
Over the years, Makoni gradually withdrew from the political spotlight, shifting his focus to private business and farming. Though he occasionally publicly appears, speculation about his political ambitions has persisted. However, he remains on the periphery of Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Carlo Ancelotti has dubbed the rivalry between Manchester City and Real Madrid a new ‘Clasico’ ahead of their Champions League knockout play-off tie. The two teams have met in the competition for the fourth consecutive year, with the victor going on to win the trophy in each of the previous three encounters.
Ancelotti believes that the team that emerges victorious from this tie will go on to win the Champions League. “It’s a nightmare preparing for games against [Pep Guardiola] because he always has ideas that make you think,” Ancelotti said. “I am convinced the team that goes through from this tie will go on to win the competition.”
Both teams have struggled in the Champions League this season, with Manchester City narrowly avoiding elimination in the group stage and Real Madrid suffering a shock loss to Espanyol. Despite this, Ancelotti’s side has maintained its domestic form, leading the LaLiga table by a point. The first leg of the tie will take place at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

As the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society elections rigging is far from being solved more and more embarrassing issues that occurred during the Edson Mlambo led Board and the leadership of the Secretary General (CEO) Elias Hwenga continue to hog the limelight, not for commendable humanitarian work but for all the wrong, sad, unethical, demeaning and pitiable reasons.
Inside sources say the Human Resources and Administration Director Mr. Gershom Hombarume was fired by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) in 2005. He was among 7 Zimra officers who were fired after they had been arrested for smuggling and externalisation of foreign currency under Operation Integrity in Beitbridge. He was sentenced to 4 months in prison or alternatively pay $10 million dollars.
No due diligence was done by the current Secreatary General,Mr. Hwenga, who was then the Human Resources and Administration Director when Mr. Hombarume was employed. They are said to be very close friends.
Also fired was Mr. Robert Chikuku, the current Zimbabwe Red Cross Society provincial accountant for Matebeleland South and Masvingo.
It is alleged that Hombarume was also accused of sexual harassment of a number of female employees at the Beitbridge boarder post.
Impeccable sources say he left his family in Highfield township,Harare and married the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society Finance Director Ms. Pedzi Mukora. What does this mean in terms of decision making at the organisation? Most of the decisions are most likely done in the bedroom.
It is also alleged that he is in love with the then Salaries Officer Angeline Manyisa at the ZRCS headquarters. She is now the (NSD) National Society Development Officer at the same station.
Sources say when Manyisa’s father passed away last year, 2024 (May His Dear Soul Rest In Eternal Peace),Hombarume dispatched three Red Cross vehicles, fueled by the organisation’s coupons to the funeral. It’s understood that such benefits are not accorded to other employees as they are told its not Red Cross policy to provide such assistance.
The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society has a policy against sexual abuse, known as “Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)” policy, which aligns with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) standards, stating a zero-tolerance approach to any form of sexual exploitation and abuse, ensuring thorough reporting mechanisms and support for survivors if any incidents occur; this policy includes training for all staff and volunteers on PSEA awareness and proper response procedures.
It is alleged the Secretary General Mr. Elias Hwenga allows this exploitation, obviously because he can’t discipline a junior officer when he has a lot of rotten bones in his cupboard.
It is said that even before Hombarume got married to Pedzi, he recommended that she be bought a new automatic transmission vehicle because she had difficulty driving manual vehicles. She was then bought a Havaal vehicle, Registration No. from Zimoco for a staggering US$38 000,00 on 6 April, 2023. No comparative bid analysis was done for the purchase of this vehicle as required by the procedures of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society.
It is also said that most of the female employees whose contracts were not renewed in 2025 had turned down Hombarume’s sexual advances. Unfortunately, they have nowhere to report the abuse because it is Hombarume who is in charge of implementing the policy. What a sad situation for the female employees in this humanitarian organisation? How safe are the female employees, married and unmarried from this untamed predator?
How does the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, a humanitarian organisation allow female employees to be exposed to a man of such loose morals, how safe are the needy and vulnerable female members of the communities in which the organisation operates? How low is this once credible humanitarian organisation going to sink?
Contacted for comment Hombarume said those were unfounded allegations and threatened to sue this publication

As Zimbabwe prepares to mark its 45th Independence Anniversary on April 18, 2025, many are questioning whether there is anything to truly celebrate this year.
The Independence Day celebrations will take place in Gweru, located in the Midlands Province, a departure from previous years. However, observers are expressing doubts about the significance of this year’s events, given the country’s ongoing economic and political challenges.
In a statement made over the weekend, the Minister of State for Midlands Province, Owen Mudha Ncube, emphasized the importance of the occasion, saying, “Mhemberero dzeIndependence gore rino dzichange dzichiitirwa kuno kuMidlands Province, kuGokwe North District. Tinoda kutenda zvikurusa kumutungamiri weNyika President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa vakatendera kuti mhemberero idzi dziitwe kuMidlands.” (Translation: “This year’s Independence celebrations will be held here in the Midlands Province, in Gokwe North District. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the nation’s leader, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for allowing these celebrations to take place in the Midlands.”)
Ncube also noted the scale of the event, which will feature food for attendees, stating, “Kutaura kuno pava nemombe dzokwana kuita 200 dzevanhu kuti vadye.” (Translation: “There will be around 200 cattle for people to feast on.”)
Despite the preparations for a large gathering and the acknowledgment of the President’s role in facilitating the celebrations, many Zimbabweans are questioning whether this year’s Independence Day offers any real cause for celebration. The country continues to grapple with significant economic hardships, including high inflation, unemployment, and widespread poverty, leaving many to wonder if the country is truly free from the struggles that continue to plague it.
As Zimbabweans reflect on 45 years of independence, the question remains: Is there truly something to celebrate this year?

The British Australian Community has called for the immediate suspension of aid to South Africa due to concerns over the country’s new land expropriation law.
See statement below…
BRITISH AUSTRALIAN COMMUNITY
An Open Letter from the British Australian Community Urging Suspension of Australian Aid to South Africa Over Anti-White Property Rights Violations
3 February 2025
On 23 January 2025, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the new Expropriation Act 13 into law. This legislation allows the government to expropriate, or compulsorily acquire, private property for public purposes or when deemed to be in the public interest. Notably, the law permits expropriation without compensation.
The South African government contends that expropriating property is essential to address land inequality in the country. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) further argues that accelerating the transfer of land from White to Black South Africans is necessary. However, many South Africans believe that this move undermines existing property rights, which are enshrined in the country’s constitution.
In response to these developments, former U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced that the United States would cut off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation into the land expropriation process is conducted.
The British Australian Community believes the Australian government should take similar action, suspending all aid to South Africa while a thorough review of the issue takes place.

In the long, blood-stained history of humanity, no horror had ever been written quite like this. Kings had slaughtered their rivals, dictators had starved nations, and conquerors had burned entire civilizations to the ground. But never before had a father—flesh of his flesh, blood of his blood—stood guard at the door, rifle in hand, to keep his own children from their mother.
He was the first.
A soldier draped in the colors of the nation, his face hardened by years of war, now played warden to three frightened souls. His own children, barely clothed, their ribs visible through the fabric of their torn garments, stood before him with eyes that had already seen too much.
“Please,” the eldest whispered, voice shaking. “Take us to Mama. We haven’t seen her in six years.”
Six years.
He had been there the night they took her. He had watched as the authorities dragged his wife away, her screams muffled by the lies they told him. She is a danger to the nation, they said. She is a threat to progress. And like a good soldier, he had obeyed. He told himself it was for the best.
But the children? He had promised them she would return. That it was temporary. That one day, they would be a family again.
Now, six years later, they stood before him, dirty, hungry, desperate. And he—he was their captor.
In the distance, at a grand podium, his spokesman stood before a sea of microphones. Bathless Geza, they called him behind closed doors—because no matter how much filth he spewed, he never washed off the stench of deceit.
Geza adjusted his tie, his voice dripping with well-rehearsed authority. “Chiwenga will take the nation to Canaan,” he declared. The audience erupted into applause, their minds numbed by the endless promises of a paradise that would never come.
Canaan. The land of hope. The land of deliverance.
The soldier clenched his jaw. Canaan was a lie.
His fingers trembled against the trigger of his rifle. Was this what he had become? The gatekeeper of suffering? The executioner of his own children’s dreams?
The eldest child stepped forward, his small hands clenched into fists. “Are you going to shoot us, Baba?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper.
The words struck harder than any bullet.
The soldier looked at his children, then back at the stage where Bathless Geza continued his sermon of deception. The cameras were rolling. The world was watching.
His hands loosened.
Slowly, painfully, he lowered the rifle.
“Go,” he whispered, voice breaking. “Find your mother.”
The children hesitated for only a moment before they ran, disappearing into the shadows.
From the podium, Bathless Geza faltered for the briefest second, his reptilian gaze locking onto the soldier. He had seen. They all had seen.
The soldier turned, heart pounding. He knew what was coming next. His choice was treason.
The doors behind him burst open. Heavy boots thundered in.
With a deep breath, he raised his rifle one last time. Not in service to the state. Not in obedience.
But in defiance.

The escalating traffic congestion in Masvingo has become a growing crisis, with travellers from Harare to Beitbridge facing frustrating delays, as well as those navigating within the city itself.
The heart of the issue lies in the lack of alternative routes, exacerbated by the flooding of the Chimusana Bridge, a critical secondary route meant to alleviate traffic flow.
The situation has reached a tipping point, with congestion clogging the main thoroughfare that connects Harare to Beitbridge.
This road, a crucial artery for travellers, has been overwhelmed, and the flooding of the Chimusana Bridge has rendered it impassable, leaving no feasible detours for commuters.
Masvingo residents and road users are now left at the mercy of a stretched infrastructure system that is struggling to keep pace with the growing demand for efficient transportation routes.
Masvingo City Council has expressed frustration with the central government’s lack of action.
“Our hands are tied as you know the main road that connects Harare and Beitbridge is not under control. Central government is responsible for that one. So what do you want us to do when government is taking ages to dualise the main bridge?” said a source at the Civic Centre, Masvingo, highlighting the city’s inability to address the issue independently.
The government’s failure to swiftly implement infrastructure improvements, such as dualizing the main bridge, has left Masvingo residents in a constant state of gridlock.
The situation paints a troubling picture of the central government’s incapacity to provide the necessary support for local councils, leaving citizens to bear the brunt of the administrative delays.
In light of the ongoing congestion crisis, many are questioning the government’s ability to effectively manage critical national infrastructure projects.
This debacle serves as a glaring reminder that when local government actions are hindered by inefficiency at the central level, residents suffer the consequences.
As the situation continues to worsen, there is growing pressure on the central government to take urgent steps to resolve the congestion crisis in Masvingo.
The call for action has been echoed by both citizens and local authorities, who are increasingly frustrated by the lack of concrete solutions to the problem. Until the Chimusana Bridge is repaired and the dualization project is completed, Masvingo residents and travelers alike will be left grappling with a congested, dysfunctional transport system.

Harare, Zimbabwe – February 11, 2025
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Today marks a significant blow to Emmerson Mnangagwa’s so-called “inventor of endless energy,” Maxwell Chikumbutso, as he has failed to sell a single car or motorbike to local Zimbabweans—despite grand claims of having received orders for thousands of units from Zambia and South Africa.
Chikumbutso, who has been at the center of controversy for years, made headlines earlier this month when he appeared on the state broadcaster ZBC, announcing that he had successfully developed technology capable of generating “endless electricity.” However, an extensive investigation by ZimEye, which has been tracking his claims since 2022, exposed major inconsistencies—ultimately concluding that he has not invented anything credible. In fact, the only object he has been confirmed to possess is an unlicensed firearm, for which he has faced armed robbery charges since 2018.

Launch Day Disaster
Yesterday, February 10, 2025, was supposed to be the grand launch of Chikumbutso’s vehicles, as previously announced by President Mnangagwa. Yet, as of today, no units have been sold in Zimbabwe, and skepticism among the public continues to mount.
Social media platforms have been flooded with comments from frustrated and disillusioned Zimbabweans questioning the validity of Chikumbutso’s inventions. One user mocked the situation, stating, “So you have 0 in your own country… Doomed man.” Another sarcastically remarked, “A new invention straight to a museum.”
Despite the lack of sales or visible units available locally, Chikumbutso insists that his technology is in high demand abroad. In a recent interview with TechMag.TV, he boasted about receiving massive orders, including:
• 3,000 units for South Africa
• 20,000 units for Zambia
• Potential sales to investors from Switzerland and Israel
However, when pressed for concrete details—such as how many units are actually available for purchase in Zimbabwe—Chikumbutso dodged the question, instead pointing to supposed international buyers who had “tested and confirmed” his technology.
ZimEye Exposes the Truth
In a scathing revelation, ZimEye conducted an on-the-ground investigation at Chikumbutso’s residence in Madokero, Harare. What they found contradicted his grand claims. Instead of running his home on his self-proclaimed “endless electricity,” Chikumbutso was using regular ZESA power—just like every other citizen.
When confronted, he admitted, “We have never powered 300 houses,” directly contradicting his earlier assertions that his technology was already in use. This latest expose further undermines his credibility, raising questions about whether his so-called energy solutions have ever actually worked.
Public Outrage and Calls for Accountability
Zimbabweans are now demanding answers, with many asking why the government endorsed Chikumbutso’s claims without proper verification. One frustrated commenter stated, “Why not make mass production so we see these inventions in hardware stores, roads, and in actual use?”
With no physical proof of his so-called “energy revolution” and mounting evidence suggesting deception, Maxwell Chikumbutso’s credibility is crumbling fast. As the much-hyped launch turns into an embarrassing failure, Zimbabweans are left wondering: Was this all just another elaborate hoax?
A full investigative documentary exposing the entire saga is on ZimEye.
By Munacho Gwanda-Notorious former war veterans’ leader and longtime Mugabe loyalist, Jabulani Sibanda, has resurfaced in Zimbabwe’s ongoing political turmoil.
Now serving as the ZANU PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson, Sibanda has waded into the intensifying power struggle between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga.
While avoiding explicit factional alignment, Sibanda has raised concerns over the growing disunity within Zimbabwe, particularly among war veterans.
He warns that internal fragmentation could leave the country vulnerable to Western influence and potential recolonization.
Speaking at the launch of the Presidential War Veterans Fund, he cautioned:
“This is the time to unite. The whites will be coming soon. United States President Donald Trump has announced withdrawal from some institutions under the United Nations. Even tomorrow, due to their strength, they can re-coloniseAfrica. This is the danger that we are facing in Africa. We are full of resources, and we are in danger from countries full of nuclear weapons and injections.”
Sibanda was one of Robert Mugabe’s most vocal and aggressive enforcers during the early 2000s, leading the infamous 2007 One Million Man March in support of Mugabe’s continued rule.
As leader of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), he played a pivotal role in orchestrating state-sponsored violence against opposition supporters, particularly during the 2008 presidential run-off election, where opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew citing deadly political repression.
Sibanda gained infamy for his inflammatory anti-Tsvangirai rhetoric, often describing the MDC leader as a puppet of Western interests.
His war veterans actively participated in violent land invasions and intimidation campaigns that targeted opposition activists and rural voters.
However, his blind loyalty to Mugabe ultimately led to his downfall—he was expelled from ZANU PF in 2014 after accusing First Lady Grace Mugabe of usurping power.
Following Mugabe’s ouster in the 2017 coup, Sibanda lay low, only to resurface in the Mnangagwa era, realigning himself with the ruling party’s structures.
Sibanda’s call for unity comes at a time when war veterans are increasingly disgruntled with Mnangagwa’s leadership.
Many see his recent financial and material incentives to former fighters as blatant attempts to secure their loyalty for an extended stay in power.
One of the most vocal critics, Blessing Geza, has openly challenged Mnangagwa to step down, arguing that war veterans should not be used as pawns to sustain a failing government.
Geza and other veterans believe that the current administration has failed to deliver on promises made to those who fought for the country’s independence, with many of them still living in poverty.
In response to the unrest, Sibanda has urged war veterans to remain united and resist division. He specifically called on Cephas Ncube, leader of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, to spearhead efforts to consolidate the movement.
“We are tasking you, Ncube, to move around and meet all war veterans and preach unity. Those war veterans who view things in a different way—I have nothing against them—but I call on them to consider unity.”
As tensions rise, Mnangagwa has moved swiftly to placate war veterans through financial handouts.
At the recent launch of the Presidential War Veterans Fund in Bulawayo, veterans were showered with cash and gifts.
The Special Presidential Investment Advisor to the United Arab Emirates, Paul Tungwarara, handed out US$200 and a hamper to each veteran.
Additionally, Mnangagwa announced that each of Zimbabwe’s ten provinces would receive US$150,000 to support short-term projects benefiting former fighters.
Despite these measures, dissatisfaction remains rife within the ranks of the war veterans.
Many argue that Mnangagwa’s gestures are mere band-aid solutions that fail to address deeper economic hardships and governance failures.
The President of Zimbabwe
His Excellency, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa
Harare
10 February 2025
Dear Sir,
*RE: Smooth Transition of Power*
With all due respect, Cde President, the 2030 term extension agenda has caused a public outcry. This agenda was introduced at a time when the economic situation has worsened, casting an unfavorable light on your leadership. The majority of Zimbabweans have lost confidence in your office and presidency. Under your watch, there is rampant corruption, a deteriorating healthcare system, poor remuneration of civil servants, and widespread suffering among Zimbabweans. It appears that no concrete solutions have been provided to address the economic hardships currently afflicting the people.
We voted you into power with the hope that things would improve under your administration. While we acknowledge the efforts you have made to uplift Zimbabwe in various ways, critical bread-and-butter issues remain unresolved. We had hoped you would stabilize the economic and political landscape, but a few individuals close to you seem to be pushing an agenda that destabilizes the economy for their own self-enrichment.
After careful consideration, I strongly advise you, Cde President, to consider a smooth transition of power within a reasonable timeframe. Doing so would allow you to clear your desk and demonstrate to the nation that you are a true revolutionary cadre who prioritizes the interests of the revolutionary party and the people. It has become an open secret, Mr. President, that the majority no longer support your continued stay in power.
Yours
Concerned Citizen
By Business Reporter-The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has raised alarm over millions of dollars lying idle in cash deposit boxes across the country, a growing trend that is starving the economy of much-needed liquidity.
While the central bank did not mention names, its latest statement appears to be aimed at controversial businessman and Zanu PF loyalist Wicknell Chivhayo, along with his associates like gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya, who frequently flaunt vast amounts of foreign currency on social media.
Chivayo, a self-styled tycoon with a well-documented history of fraud and shady dealings, has become infamous for his ostentatious displays of wealth.
He has splurged on an extravagant fleet of luxury vehicles—ranging from Rolls Royces to Bentleys and Lamborghinis—some of which he has gifted to musicians, socialites, and influencers in exchange for public endorsements of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda.
Despite his extravagant lifestyle, Chivhayo has never publicly declared his sources of income or provided proof of financial legitimacy, fueling widespread speculation about his dealings.
He has previously been implicated in high-profile scandals, including a multi-million-dollar Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) tender fraud case in which he was accused of receiving $5 million for a power project that never materialized.
Announcing his 2025 Monetary Policy Statement, RBZ Governor John Mushayavanhu cautioned against the growing trend of businesses and individuals hoarding large sums of cash outside the formal banking system.
“There are manufacturers who are supplying goods to the informal market but are not banking their proceeds. They are keeping these monies in their cash boxes, which is not in line with the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) will not just watch but will dismantle this practice,” Mushayavanhu stated.
The central bank governor emphasized that stockpiling cash presents unnecessary risks, especially in light of recent increases in prepaid credit limits and attractive interest rates on savings accounts.
“The issue here is that robbers have been targeting buses, especially cross-border traders, and stealing their cash. There is no need to keep large sums of money in cash when one can simply upload their funds onto a card, with limits now increased to US$1 million. We have also adjusted interest rates on savings accounts, which makes banking more attractive,” he explained.
To instill confidence in the local banking sector and encourage a culture of saving, the RBZ has implemented incremental increases in interest rates on deposits.
However, whether the central bank will take concrete action against individuals like Chivayo—who continue to operate outside the formal financial system while openly displaying unexplained wealth—remains to be seen.
By Munacho Gwamanda- Vice President Kembo Mohadi made a rare public appearance at the National Heroes Acre on Monday for the burial of national hero Tinaye Chigudu, but his frail posture, masked face, and unsteady gait have reignited concerns about his deteriorating health.
Dressed in a dark navy suit and wearing a black face mask, his security detail closely assisted Mohadi, his slow and deliberate movements reflecting physical strain.
His use of a mask—despite COVID-19 restrictions being largely lifted—has fueled speculation about a possible respiratory condition or another undisclosed ailment.
Mohadi’s health has long been a subject of concern, with reports of frequent medical trips abroad and past incidents where he collapsed at public functions.
In 2023, he fainted while delivering a lecture at the University of Zimbabwe, appearing disoriented before requesting water and losing consciousness.
The same year, security agents allegedly forced journalists to delete footage of him collapsing at a Zanu PF campaign rally in Gutu, Masvingo.
His declining health has also led to reduced public engagement.
Last month, while President Emmerson Mnangagwa was on leave, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri was unexpectedly tasked with representing Zimbabwe at John Mahama’s inauguration in Ghana—a duty that should have fallen to Mohadi as acting president.
Government insiders suggested concerns over his ability to handle the physical demands of the trip led to the last-minute change.
Beyond his health struggles, Mohadi’s political career has been marred by scandal.
In 2021, he resigned in disgrace after leaked audio tapes alleged he had engaged in sexual misconduct with multiple women, including married subordinates.
Despite denying the accusations, the controversy forced him out of office—only for him to be quietly reinstated in 2023 as second vice president, alongside Constantino Chiwenga.
Mohadi’s return was widely seen as part of Mnangagwa’s strategy to counterbalance Chiwenga, his powerful deputy and former coup ally.
With Mnangagwa pushing for a controversial third term, tensions between the two men have escalated.
Mohadi’s continued presence in high-profile engagements, including Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 campaign, appears to be an effort to reinforce loyalty within the ruling party’s inner circle.

Highlanders Football Club’s preparations for the 2025 season have suffered a significant setback after FIFA imposed a transfer ban on the club due to unpaid salaries to their former coach, Baltemer Brito.
The club had recently reassured fans and stakeholders that they were making progress in settling the debts owed to Brito and his assistant, Antonio Torres. It was believed that the club’s principal sponsor, Sakunda Holdings, was in the process of covering the outstanding payments.
Brito is owed US$15,000, while Torres is owed nearly US$12,000 in salary and bonuses.
As a result of the ban, Highlanders are prohibited from making new signings, whether local or international. With the club already facing a player exodus, the team had hoped to strengthen its squad but will now have to rely on its current roster or look to its development side for reinforcements.
Highlanders FC is not the first Zimbabwean club to face such sanctions. Yadah FC also received a similar ban in the past for failing to meet their contractual obligations to Brazilian players.

Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s personal DJ (DJ Masomere) was reportedly manhandled at an event in Bulawayo over the weekend, according to well-placed sources within Zanu PF.
The incident, which took place at a Zanu PF gathering, has stirred controversy, though the exact reasons for the altercation remain unclear. The Zanu PF controlled Operation Restore Legacy Facebook Page revealed details about the incident.
In the post, the page expressed outrage at the assault on DJ Masomere, castigating the actions of Zanu PF youths in Bulawayo.
The post, which appeared on Monday, stated:
“Bulawayo Province Youths, we are coming for you. Why did you want to beat DJ? We, SADC, cannot tolerate you assaulting our DJ. You cannot grab his collar, his jacket, and humiliate him like that.”
The statement continued by addressing internal disagreements within the province, specifically highlighting the role of the Commissariat department:
“Ko Bulawayo Province hanzi tine department re Commissariate hatina ma DJ, ma DJ anowanikwa kubhawa…” (Translation: “So Bulawayo Province says it has no DJ department, DJs are only found in bars…”)
Additionally, the post referred to a separate issue involving a person named Aphia, accusing her of causing trouble among attendees and publicly disrespecting others at the event.
“Ukuwo uyu musikana Aphia achinetsawo kumaHumpers kutotuka badala bedu, haaaaa these people,” (Operation Restore Legacy posted, implying further internal tensions within the gathering).
Though the exact motives behind the assault on DJ Masomere remain unclear, the event has triggered a wave of discussions and raised questions about the internal dynamics within Zanu PF, particularly in Bulawayo. The matter is likely to continue unfolding in the coming days.
Will the Ragtag Pig Shed Built by ZANU Restore the ZiG Currency?
A Temporary Fix for a Permanent Crisis?
Harare’s Mbare Musika, once a thriving hub for informal traders, is now the site of a controversial reconstruction effort following the devastating fire that left thousands of vendors destitute. The ZANU PF government has quickly moved to erect a “modern” temporary market, but critics are questioning whether this hastily built structure is anything more than a cosmetic solution to a deeper economic crisis.
At the heart of the debate is the newly introduced Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency, which the government insists will stabilize the economy. But will a makeshift trading market, likened by some vendors to a “ragtag pig shed,” be enough to restore confidence in a currency that many Zimbabweans already view with skepticism?
A Currency on Shaky Ground
Since its launch last April, the ZiG has struggled to gain public trust. Market confidence is at an all-time low due to Zimbabwe’s turbulent monetary history, including the catastrophic hyperinflation of the 2000s and the more recent collapse of the RTGS dollar. Many traders at Mbare Musika, where transactions are often conducted in US dollars, have refused to fully adopt the ZiG, fearing it will follow the same disastrous path as its predecessors.
The government, however, has doubled down on enforcing the currency, with authorities targeting informal traders suspected of engaging in forex dealings. Leaked reports suggest that the fire that gutted Mbare Musika may have been a deliberate ploy to disrupt illegal currency trading and force vendors to accept the ZiG.
Space Barons and Corruption: Business as Usual?
Even as officials tout the new market as a step toward formalization and economic stability, reports are emerging that space barons—connected to ruling party elites—are already exploiting traders by demanding bribes of US$10 per person just to be considered for a stall. This raises serious concerns about the true beneficiaries of the reconstruction efforts.
Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe has assured traders that the allocation of stalls will be done fairly, but vendors on the ground remain skeptical. Many fear that politically connected individuals will seize the prime trading spots, leaving those most affected by the fire without a place to rebuild their businesses.
A Broken Trust: Traders Speak Out
Mbare Musika traders are unconvinced that rebuilding the market will address the economic realities they face. “A new structure will not bring back our lost goods, and it won’t fix the economy,” says one trader who lost over US$10,000 in the fire. “People don’t trust the ZiG, so they use US dollars. Unless the government stabilizes the economy, this is just another exercise in deception.”
The mistrust is well-founded. Previous government initiatives, such as the 2019 reintroduction of the Zimbabwean dollar, ended in disaster as inflation spiraled out of control. Without addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic instability—rampant corruption, excessive government borrowing, and a lack of investor confidence—no amount of infrastructure development will restore faith in the national currency.
Will the “Pig Shed” Save the ZiG?
The rush to erect a temporary market in Mbare Musika may serve as a political gesture, but it does little to resolve the deeper financial turmoil gripping Zimbabwe. The government’s alleged role in the market fire, combined with its failure to rein in corruption among space barons, has only fueled public distrust.
For the ZiG to gain legitimacy, the government needs more than new buildings—it needs policies that inspire economic confidence. Without concrete steps to curb inflation, protect traders from exploitation, and restore faith in monetary policies, the ZiG will be nothing more than another failed experiment in Zimbabwe’s long history of currency disasters.
For now, traders at Mbare Musika remain caught between a crumbling economy and a government that seems more interested in optics than solutions. Whether the makeshift market will become a beacon of economic revival or just another monument to Zimbabwe’s ongoing crisis remains to be seen.

Gift Ostallos Siziba, a prominent representative of opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa, addressed a passionate crowd in Rushinga, Mashonaland Central, over the weekend, urging citizens to prepare for the upcoming transformation in Zimbabwe.
Siziba, speaking on behalf of Chamisa, emphasized the importance of leadership and grassroots political mobilization in bringing about meaningful change in the country.
“Deep in Rushinga, Mashonaland Central, we’re spreading the message of change, led by President Chamisa,” Siziba declared, highlighting the region’s crucial role in the fight for a better Zimbabwe.
“The people of Rushinga are resilient and vigilant; they have resisted the now-fashionable regime trinkets and trappings. We salute them.”
Siziba acknowledged the strength and determination of Rushinga’s citizens, recognizing their ability to see through the distractions and false promises of the current government. “The people here are awake to the truth,” he said, emphasizing that their resilience is a key force in the movement for change.
Siziba’s message was clear: Zimbabwe is ready for transformation. “Fellow Zimbabweans, we are all clear: the nation is ready, and we must provide the much-needed leadership to change our realities,” he stated. He stressed that the change the country desperately needs cannot happen without strong leadership that understands the concerns and aspirations of ordinary people.
The call for grassroots political mobilization was central to Siziba’s speech. “To achieve this, grassroots political mobilization is the answer,” he declared, underscoring that true transformation will come when citizens at every level of society are engaged and actively working toward a common goal.
The statement marked another pivotal moment in the ongoing push for change by the opposition, as Chamisa’s leadership continues to resonate with communities across the country.
As Siziba concluded, the message was clear: “Onwards!”—a call for all Zimbabweans to stand together in anticipation of the changes to come.

In a continued effort to address Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic challenges, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has announced plans to redesign the ZiG banknotes.
This move comes as the country grapples with severe economic instability, marked by inflation, currency devaluation, and a significant decline in domestic production.
Zimbabwe’s economic turmoil has left the nation with little room to sustain itself. The government has been scrambling to find solutions, but the country’s economy remains fragile, with production at a standstill.
This economic collapse is highlighted by the crumbling currency system, which is struggling to maintain its value amidst the uncertainty.
RBZ Governor, Dr. John Mushayavanhu, explained that the redesigned ZiG notes aim to address two major concerns: combating counterfeiting and improving the durability of the current banknotes.
“The redesign of the ZiG notes incorporates valuable feedback received from stakeholders during the 2025 Monetary Policy Statement and Reserve Bank 2025-2029 strategy formulation stakeholder consultations,” Dr. Mushayavanhu told State media.
The current ZiG notes, introduced in April 2024, have been widely criticized for their poor durability. Consumers and businesses alike have pointed out that the notes quickly become worn and difficult to handle. Merchants and banks have also raised concerns about the usability of the notes as they easily fade and fray, making them hard to accept in daily transactions. Only the ZiG10 and ZiG20 notes have so far been released into circulation, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Zimbabwe’s currency.
According to Dr. Mushayavanhu, the new designs will feature enhanced security features to prevent counterfeiting, a standard practice for central banks around the world. He emphasized, “The redesign of ZiG notes does not signify redenomination or any form of currency reform. This initiative is solely focused on enhancing the quality of the notes.”
While the public might hope that this redesign could signal a much-needed currency overhaul, Dr. Mushayavanhu was quick to clarify that this is not the case. “I must reiterate that the Reserve Bank is not going to issue a new currency, and in this regard, the public should not be apprehensive,” he said. “Instead, the Reserve Bank is merely redesigning the current banknotes to enhance quality, in line with international standards.”
The Governor also assured the public that the redesigned notes would be issued in the same denominations as the original ZiG notes, which include ZiG1, ZiG2, ZiG5, ZiG10, ZiG20, ZiG50, ZiG100, and ZiG200. The new notes will be rolled out as the need arises in the market.
Dr. Mushayavanhu confirmed that the rollout of these enhanced notes would be communicated to the public in due course. However, higher-denomination notes will only be introduced if there is a clear demand for them in the economy. The focus, for now, remains on making the current banknotes more durable and secure as Zimbabwe continues to battle its ongoing economic crisis.
As the country struggles with inflation and the lack of domestic production, the redesigned ZiG notes serve as a temporary measure in the face of a much deeper economic crisis that is unlikely to improve without fundamental reforms.

Harare football powerhouse Dynamos FC could face sanctions, including a potential ban from the CAF Confederation Cup or a transfer ban, after former striker Sadney Urikhob escalated a dispute over unpaid signing-on fees and performance bonuses to FIFA.
Urikhob, who played for Dynamos during the 2022 season, contributed to the team’s success in winning the Chibuku Super Cup, which secured them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.
After his stint at Dynamos, the former Simba SC striker joined Premiership debutants Scottland.
It has been revealed that Urikhob was due to receive his signing-on fees, totaling US$9,000, from Dynamos by February of the previous year.
However, the Harare-based club failed to make the payment. After attempts to resolve the matter internally, Urikhob notified the Moses Maunganidze-led executive of his intention to take the issue to FIFA.
Following standard procedure, Urikhob’s representatives sent three formal letters to Dynamos, but the financially-struggling club failed to respond.

A fisherman was tragically killed in a suspected crocodile attack at Mogalakwena River, Limpopo, on Friday. His lifeless body was discovered with significant injuries, including the loss of his hands and stomach.
The victim, identified as Phuthi Oscar Serumula from Arrie Village in Maleboho, was last seen fishing at the same location. Authorities are urging local residents to avoid swimming, fishing, or crossing rivers known to be infested with crocodiles to prevent further tragedies.
By Munacho Gwamanda-President Emmerson Mnangagwa cut a lonely and troubled figure at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.
A rare, solemn expression replaced his usually composed demeanour—his face etched with deep lines of contemplation.
Draped in his trademark Zimbabwean flag scarf, he appeared distant, almost defeated.
Even the presence of his wife, Auxillia, standing elegantly by his side in a black dress, did little to mask the growing political turmoil engulfing him.
The escalating power struggle within Zanu PF was on full display as rival factions supporting Mnangagwa and his deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, clashed openly at the burial of national hero Tinaye Chigudu.
The factions disrupted the solemn proceedings with antagonistic songs, each side praising its leader.
This latest confrontation mirrored a similar standoff two weeks ago at the burial of Justin Mupamhanga, when Chiwenga’s supporters publicly demonstrated their loyalty while he was acting President in Mnangagwa’s absence.
Mnangagwa’s controversial push for a third term is at the heart of this intensifying feud.
Initially expected to step down after his constitutionally mandated two terms, the 81-year-old leader has manoeuvred to extend his rule beyond 2028.
He has floated proposals for constitutional amendments or party endorsements to override term limits, which has sparked fierce resistance within Zanu PF.
Chiwenga, a former army general and the architect of the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe views himself as the rightful heir.
He insists on an alleged power-sharing agreement struck when he backed Mnangagwa’s rise, a deal the President has not intended to honour.
Instead, Mnangagwa has consolidated power within his inner circle, sidelining or eliminating military commanders aligned with Chiwenga.
This has fueled speculation of another coup in the making, with whispers of clandestine meetings and a divided military—some generals still loyal to Chiwenga, others firmly behind Mnangagwa.
The tension is now at a breaking point, and with loyalties in the security sector shifting unpredictably, Zimbabwe could once again be on the brink of political upheaval.
By Munacho Gwamanda-Supporters of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and those of his deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, publicly clashed at the National Heroes Acre on Monday, further exposing the deepening divisions within Zanu PF.
The rival factions disrupted the burial of national hero Tinaye Chigudu, singing antagonistic songs that openly praised their respective leaders.
The incident mirrored a similar confrontation two weeks ago when Chiwenga’s supporters demonstrated their allegiance during the burial of Justin Mupamhanga at the same venue.
On that occasion, Chiwenga was acting president while Mnangagwa was on leave.
This latest clash signals the imminent explosion of factionalism in Zanu PF, largely fueled by Mnangagwa’s controversial push for a third term.
Draped in his signature Zimbabwean flag scarf, Mnangagwa cut a sombre and distant figure at the event.
His forced half-smile barely masked the turbulence within his party.
Even the presence of his wife, Auxillia—clad in an elegant black dress and exuding composure—could not conceal the political storm brewing behind the scenes.
Mnangagwa’s bid to extend his rule beyond 2028 has sparked intense infighting within Zanu PF.
Originally expected to step down after serving two constitutionally mandated terms, the 81-year-old leader has been manoeuvring to stay in power.
His options range from pushing for constitutional amendments to seeking an internal party endorsement that could override the term limit.
But his most formidable opponent is none other than his deputy, Chiwenga—the former army general who masterminded the 2017 coup that ousted longtime ruler Robert Mugabe and paved the way for Mnangagwa’s rise.
Chiwenga, who played a crucial role in securing Mnangagwa’s presidency, is now demanding his turn to lead.
According to party insiders, there was an alleged power-sharing deal in 2017 that would have seen Mnangagwa serve only one term before handing over the reins to Chiwenga.
However, Mnangagwa has shown no intention of honouring this arrangement.
Instead, the President has systematically consolidated power by surrounding himself with loyalists and purging military commanders aligned with Chiwenga.
This has not gone unnoticed within Zimbabwe’s security sector, where allegiances remain fluid and self-serving.
With loyalties in the security forces shifting, whispers of another coup are growing louder.
Military insiders speak of clandestine meetings and an increasingly divided army, with some generals still aligned with Chiwenga.
The former general retains considerable influence within the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, and his supporters believe he has the military backing to challenge Mnangagwa.
The deepening rift between Zimbabwe’s top two leaders is a powder keg waiting to explode.
If Mnangagwa succeeds in pushing for a third term, he risks further alienating the military elite that once propped him up.
On the other hand, if Chiwenga moves too soon, he risks exposing himself to Mnangagwa’s ruthless political machinery, which has already seen the sidelining and forced retirements of key military figures sympathetic to him.

In an aggressive attempt to reshape Zimbabwe’s economic framework, the government has imposed new measures aimed at integrating the informal sector into the formal economy.
While the move, outlined in the 2025 Monetary Policy Statement, is presented as a path to economic stability, it is also being met with criticism for its insensitivity to the realities of small businesses and entrepreneurs in the informal sector.
The government’s approach has placed these businesses in a tight corner, forcing them to comply with policies that may undermine their survival and growth in an already fragile economy.
For many Zimbabweans, the informal economy has long served as a lifeline, providing employment and income opportunities in the face of economic instability, inflation, and a struggling formal job market.
The sector has thrived in large part due to its flexibility, with businesses relying on cash transactions and operating outside of the formal regulatory environment.
Yet, as inflation and the currency crisis continue to plague the nation, the government views formalization as a critical step to stabilizing the economy, boosting tax revenue, and ensuring transparency.
However, this aggressive push to formalize the informal sector seems to overlook the severe challenges small business owners face.
The government’s insistence on mandatory bank accounts, the adoption of dual-currency point-of-sale (POS) systems, and the embrace of electronic payments may be an attempt to modernize the economy, but it risks alienating and burdening the very people it aims to help.
Government’s Insensitivity to Informal Sector Needs
Dr. John Mushayavanhu, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, has defended the formalization policy, emphasizing that it is necessary to foster growth, efficiency, and accountability. According to Dr. Mushayavanhu, integrating the informal sector into the formal economy is essential for improving investor confidence and production capacity. However, the new measures seem to fail in addressing the day-to-day struggles faced by informal business owners.
Small businesses, which operate in an environment of high inflation, rising operational costs, and limited access to resources, are already at a disadvantage. Many in the informal sector rely on cash-based transactions because they do not have access to banking services, and many business owners are simply not equipped to manage the financial complexities that come with formalization. The new regulations, which include the opening of bank accounts and the integration of electronic payment systems, may appear straightforward on paper, but they overlook the financial and logistical barriers faced by many small-scale entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, many small business owners fear that the additional costs associated with meeting these requirements will force them to shut down or drive them further into the shadows of the informal economy. The government’s approach seems to place formalization as an expectation rather than an option, leaving little room for the informal sector to adapt in a way that is manageable for them.
The Danger of Pushing the Informal Sector Deeper Underground
As the government pushes for formalization, a growing concern is that these policies may actually drive informal businesses further into the underground economy. Instead of encouraging businesses to register and contribute to the formal economy, the burdens of compliance could prompt many to avoid government scrutiny altogether. This could lead to an expansion of the unregulated sector, ultimately defeating the purpose of the reform.
The pressure to comply with increasingly complex regulations may create a situation where only the largest businesses in the informal sector are able to make the transition to the formal economy. Smaller enterprises may choose to remain off the grid, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the government’s economic reforms. Additionally, this could exacerbate the challenges of tax collection, further impeding the government’s ability to stabilize the economy.
The Need for a More Sensitive and Supportive Approach
The government’s current approach shows a lack of understanding of the challenges faced by informal sector entrepreneurs. While formalization may bring long-term benefits, the transition needs to be gradual, with sufficient support for small businesses. Rather than mandating immediate compliance, the government should consider incentives such as tax breaks, access to affordable financial services, and simplified registration processes. These measures could encourage businesses to formalize at their own pace, without the fear of stifling their operations.
Financial literacy programs that focus on the practical benefits of banking, electronic payments, and tax compliance could also help small businesses navigate the formalization process. Furthermore, the government must acknowledge the need for better infrastructure, including accessible banking services, in rural and remote areas where many informal businesses operate.
Looking Forward: Reassessing the Strategy
Zimbabwe’s informal sector has long provided a critical safety net for the population, offering opportunities where formal employment has been scarce. The government’s 2025 agenda, with its push for formalization, could potentially modernize the economy and create greater fiscal transparency. However, this must be done with careful consideration of the informal sector’s needs and challenges.
If the government remains insensitive to the reality of the informal sector’s struggles, its policies may cause more harm than good, pushing businesses further away from the formal economy and stifling innovation in the process. A more balanced, empathetic approach is needed—one that combines regulation with meaningful support. This approach would allow the informal sector to thrive within the formal economy, contributing to a stronger, more stable economy for all Zimbabweans.
Ultimately, the success of these reforms will depend on the government’s willingness to listen to the concerns of small business owners and provide them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Without this, the formalization process risks becoming a burden that drives many entrepreneurs out of business rather than helping them to thrive.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s MenBelievED organization distributed seedlings to farmers in Masvingo North Constituency over the weekend, raising questions about the adequacy of the support provided.
Farmers in the area have expressed concerns that the number of seedlings given is insufficient for meaningful agricultural growth.
In an official statement, MenBelievED provided updates on their activities in the region…
MenBelievED Masvingo North Chapter Updates
Sunday, February 9, 2025
The MenBelievED team completed Phase 3 of its activities in Ward 8, Masvingo North Constituency on February 7. The initiative, which featured a seedling distribution and planting event, attracted a crowd of key figures, including Masvingo North legislator Hon. Brian Mudhumi, local Ward Councillor Gule, and traditional leaders.
The event also saw the participation of war veterans, government officials, and a representative from the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra Chadzamira. Students from Mutendi High and Bikita Fashu Secondary Schools, along with local youth and their parents, were also involved in the community-based initiative.
The seedlings distributed included cabbage, tomato, green pepper, sweet potato, squash, and okra. These crops were intended to enhance the productivity of nutritional gardens in Ward 8, contributing to food security and economic empowerment through the sale of surplus produce.
“This initiative is aimed not only at improving household food security but also at offering economic opportunities for local farmers,” MenBelievED stated. “By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, the project can provide long-term benefits to the community.”
In addition to its agricultural focus, the project seeks to address pressing social issues, particularly the rising abuse of drugs and substances among youth. By involving young people in productive farming activities, the program offers a constructive alternative to idleness, contributing to a healthier, more engaged community.
The event highlighted the collective effort from various sectors of the community, underscoring a shared commitment to sustainable development and social welfare in Masvingo North. MenBelievED’s initiative sets a precedent for similar projects across the country, aligning with the broader goals of community development under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
However, despite the optimism surrounding the project, local farmers have voiced concerns about the scale of the seedling distribution, questioning whether it is enough to make a significant impact on local agricultural productivity.

In a dramatic show of defiance, protesters set fire to campaign materials bearing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s image, including T-shirts and scarves, calling for his immediate resignation. The fiery demonstrations come at a time of mounting public dissatisfaction and growing political unrest.
The burning of the ruling party’s regalia, captured in viral images and videos, symbolized a powerful rejection of Mnangagwa’s leadership. Protesters, frustrated by economic hardship and governance concerns, used the act as a statement of discontent, signaling a sudden loss of popular support for Mnangagwa.
The Fallout of Mnangagwa’s Alleged Plans to Fire Chiwenga
Mnangagwa’s rumored plan to dismiss Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has intensified tensions within ZANU-PF and the security apparatus. Some insiders claim that Mnangagwa has already been sidelined by the military and that his power is now purely symbolic. If true, his attempts to remove Chiwenga could backfire catastrophically.
Mnangagwa’s warning that anyone attempting to replace him “must go through the death row” and “take poison first” underscores the high stakes of this political battle. His continued reference to historical narratives, including the disputed claim that he was poisoned in 2017, appears to be an effort to consolidate sympathy and support. However, war veterans and other influential factions within the party have begun to question his credibility, particularly regarding his alliance with controversial businessman Maxwell Chikumbutso.
War Veterans Challenge Mnangagwa and Chikumbutso
The war veterans, traditionally seen as kingmakers in Zimbabwean politics, are now openly challenging Mnangagwa and Chikumbutso. Their skepticism over Chikumbutso’s supposed “endless electricity” invention and Mnangagwa’s poisoning claims suggests that they no longer blindly support the president’s narratives.
The veterans have raised several pointed questions:
1. Can Mnangagwa and Chikumbutso provide documented medical evidence of their poisoning claims?
2. Is their “endless electricity” project genuine, or is it merely another political distraction?
3. Why did Mnangagwa appoint convicted armed robber Paradzayi Kutyauripo to a key government position?
4. When did Mnangagwa allegedly stop working for the Rhodesian security services?
These inquiries suggest that Mnangagwa is facing a crisis not only from Chiwenga but also from factions within his own support base. If the war veterans formally withdraw their backing, Mnangagwa’s position could become untenable.
The Unfolding Coup Scenario
While official sources continue to deny Mnangagwa’s weakened position, Zimbabwe’s political landscape is shifting rapidly. Chiwenga, as a former military commander, holds significant influence over the armed forces. If he consolidates military and party power, Mnangagwa’s removal could mirror Robert Mugabe’s ousting in 2017—a swift and controlled operation disguised as a voluntary resignation.
With tensions at a boiling point, the coming days and weeks will determine whether Mnangagwa can reclaim control or whether Zimbabwe is on the verge of yet another leadership shake-up. The public’s overwhelming prediction that he will last only days after losing power suggests that his options are dwindling fast.
Conclusion: Is This the End for Mnangagwa?
Mnangagwa’s fate now hinges on his ability to either outmaneuver Chiwenga or secure last-minute military backing. However, history suggests that Zimbabwean politics is ruthless, and leaders who lose military and party control rarely survive. The overwhelming public sentiment, as reflected in the uploaded poll image, indicates that Zimbabweans believe Mnangagwa’s time is almost up.
As the crisis unfolds, the world watches to see whether Zimbabwe is headed for another coup, a negotiated transition, or an unexpected twist in its long history of political intrigue.- ZimEye
By Munacho Gwamanda-President Emmerson Mnangagwa Monday at the National Heroes Acre appeared in a rare, sad and troubled carved face with deep lines of contemplation.
Draped in his trademark Zimbabwean flag scarf, Mnangagwa looked distant, almost defeated.
His forced half-smile failed to mask the turbulence within despite the presence of his wife, Auxillia, standing by his side.
Clad in an elegant black dress, Auxillia’s presence exuded composure, but the growing political storm within Zanu PF was undeniable.
Mnangagwa’s bid to extend his rule beyond 2028 has sparked intense factional battles within the ruling party.
Originally scheduled to step down after his constitutionally mandated two terms, the 81-year-old leader has manoeuvred to cling to power, floating proposals for constitutional amendments or internal party endorsements to override the term limits.
His most formidable adversary, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga—the very man who orchestrated Robert Mugabe’s ouster in 2017 to pave Mnangagwa’s rise.
Chiwenga, the former army general, intends to take over in 2028, citing a power-sharing agreement that allegedly existed when he backed Mnangagwa’s coup against Mugabe.
However, the President has shown no signs of honouring that deal.
Instead, he consolidated power within his loyalists, sidelining and eliminating military commanders aligned with Chiwenga.
This has ignited whispers of another coup brewing within Zimbabwe’s security sector, where loyalties remain fluid and driven by personal interests.
The tension is palpable. Party insiders speak of clandestine meetings and a divided military, with some generals still loyal to Chiwenga.
Mnangagwa T-Shirts and Scarves Burned in Protest
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Harare, Zimbabwe — In a dramatic show of defiance, protesters set fire to campaign materials bearing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s image, including T-shirts and scarves, calling for his immediate resignation. The fiery demonstrations come at a time of mounting public dissatisfaction and growing political unrest.
The burning of the ruling party’s regalia, captured in viral images and videos, symbolized a powerful rejection of Mnangagwa’s leadership. Protesters, frustrated by economic hardship and governance concerns, used the act as a statement of discontent, signalling a sudden loss of popular support for Mnangagwa.
This unrest coincided with an early poor turnout at the National Heroes Acre in the early hours of on Monday morning, where Mnangagwa had been expected to address the nation. By 9:30 AM, footage from the national burial shrine showed empty terraces—an unusual sight for an event that traditionally attracts large crowds from around 8am.
Mnangagwa’s presidency has been marred by economic struggles, allegations of corruption, and growing opposition pressure.
With political tensions escalating, the government’s response to these acts of defiance remains to be seen. Authorities are expected to investigate the protests, while opposition groups continue to rally against Mnangagwa’s rule.

By Business Reporter-Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, once the country’s leading mobile service provider, is under fire for allegedly exposing customer details to the public domain, further eroding public trust amid growing dissatisfaction over deteriorating service quality and exorbitant charges.
Several Econet subscribers have recently reported being contacted by suspicious individuals on WhatsApp, raising concerns that their contact details might have been sourced from an alleged data leak by a threat actor known as Thaihub.
Cybersecurity watchdog FalconFeeds.io reported that over 852,000 customer records had been compromised and were being sold on the dark web.
The leaked data reportedly included full names, addresses, email addresses, Twitter handles, and mobile numbers. FalconFeeds.io posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“A threat actor claims to be selling the database of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (http://econet.co.zw). The leaked data includes 852,791 customer records containing full names, emails, addresses, Twitter handles, mobile numbers, and more.”
According to TechZim, Thaihub allegedly listed the stolen database for sale at a price of $299.
However, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has denied the claims, stating that its internal investigations found no evidence of a security breach.
In a statement the company reassured customers that it had activated incident management processes and was working with international cybersecurity experts to monitor its systems.
The statement reads:
“Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is aware of a social media post first made on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday (February 4, 2025) claiming that a threat actor was selling part of Econet’s subscriber list containing 852,791 customer records.
Our internal investigations, which started immediately on the day the allegations were made, have detected no breach on our systems that would lead to unauthorised access to sensitive customer data that is not already in the public domain or accessible through third parties.”
Despite Econet’s assurances, skepticism remains high among customers, many of whom are already frustrated with the company over its declining service quality and increasing costs.
The security breach allegations come at a time when Econet’s reputation is already under scrutiny due to the worsening quality of its services.
Over the past few years, Zimbabweans have increasingly complained about network congestion, frequent dropped calls, slow mobile internet speeds, and poor customer service.
Once considered the best in the country, the company’s internet services have reportedly become unreliable, with erratic data connectivity affecting businesses and individuals alike.
Adding to consumer woes, Econet has implemented a series of steep tariff hikes, making mobile communication unaffordable for many Zimbabweans.
While the company cites rising operational costs due to inflation and foreign currency shortages as justification for these increases, customers argue that the price hikes are unjustified given the subpar service they are receiving.
For instance, the cost of mobile data bundles has risen dramatically, pushing many users to seek alternative providers or reduce their internet usage.
Many businesses, reliant on stable network services, have been forced to invest in alternative communication solutions such as Starlink and VSAT, further eroding Econet’s dominance in the market.
The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has come under pressure to take action against Econet over its service failures and alleged data security lapses.
Consumer rights groups have called for stricter oversight and penalties if Econet is found guilty of negligence in handling customer data.
By Munacho Gwamanda- The ailing co-Vice President Kembo Mohadi has publicly thrown his support behind President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s controversial #ED2030 campaign despite his persistent health challenges and the ongoing power struggles within ZANU PF.
On Monday, Mohadi, who has suffered multiple public health scares, made the remarks while mourning the late national hero and former Manicaland governor, Tinaye Chigudu.
Chigudu, who succumbed to a long illness last Wednesday at his Mt Pleasant home in Harare, is set to be buried today at the National Heroes Acre.
Mohadi’s ill health has been a matter of public concern for years.
The 74-year-old politician has collapsed on several occasions while attending official functions, fueling speculation about his ability to continue in office.
Despite these setbacks, Mohadi has remained a key figure in Mnangagwa’s administration, even after being fired in 2021 following a sex scandal.
He was quietly reinstated in 2023 as the second Vice President, serving alongside Constantino Chiwenga, in a move widely seen as Mnangagwa’s strategy to maintain a delicate balance of power within the party.
Mohadi’s endorsement of Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda is seen as a calculated move to solidify his allegiance to the President amid intensifying power struggles with his deputy, Chiwenga.
The fissures between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga have been growing, with the former army general increasingly asserting himself in political and military affairs.
Chiwenga, who led the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, has long been viewed as the heir apparent to Mnangagwa.
However, Mnangagwa’s push for a third term—despite constitutional limits—has deepened tensions.
The inclusion of Mohadi, a longtime Mnangagwa loyalist, in high-profile engagements such as the #ED2030 campaign appears to be a bid to counterbalance Chiwenga’s growing influence.
In a statement issued through his Chief-of-Staff, Clever Chirume, Mohadi expressed his sorrow over Chigudu’s passing, linking it to the broader struggle for Zimbabwe’s development.
“The Vice President joins His Excellency the President and the nation in mourning Cde Tinaye Chigudu, who has since been declared a national hero. It is sad that yet another gallant son of the liberation struggle has died a few weeks after we buried four others,” said Mohadi.
“Furthermore, it is unfortunate that those of us who participated first-hand in the liberation struggle are now leaving when their wisdom and guidance are still required. This is the generation that demonstrated loyalty and resilience against the colonial regime, qualities we require to attain Vision 2030 of an empowered upper-middle-income society.”
Born on August 13, 1942, Chigudu played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
After being expelled from Harare Secondary School in 1964 due to his political activism, he joined ZAPU and received military training in North Korea as a ZIPRA cadre.
Upon returning, he was deployed as an intelligence officer but was captured in 1965 and detained for 12 years in Gonakudzingwa, Gweru, and Whawha prisons.
Following his release in 1977, Chigudu exiled himself to the UK, where he studied law at Exeter University between 1978 and 1981.
Returning to Zimbabwe, he held various government positions, including Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs and later for Mines and Mining Development.
He served as the Governor and Resident Minister of Manicaland from 2005 until his retirement in 2008.
Chigudu also worked as a senior consultant under the United Nations Development Programme, helping structure the Ministry of Interior for South Sudan.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Chigudu (nee Dumba), and seven children.
