Incarcerated anti-Robert Mugabe protesters say that they are being denied food by the Prison authorities.
The 11 who are detained at Harare Remand and Chikurubi female prisons respectively, told People’s Democratic Party President Tendai Biti, on Tuesday, they are starving.
The activists complained about the lack of food as the prison officials were denying visitors to bring them food from outside the prison complex.
The prison guards reportedly cited health reasons.
Food and other drinks are on sale in prison: a two litre plastic bottle of Coke, which is sold outside for $1, 20 is going for $4 while a one litre bottle of water, which is sold for $0.75 in supermarkets, going for $1, 50.
The astronomical prices, the activists said, were forcing most of the inmates to go hungry most of the times as prison food was inadequate and poorly prepared.
Among the activists Biti visited were; Linda Masarira, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Pride Mkono, Pamela Mawire and Makomborero Haruzivishe, Irene Takavada, Shadreck Dhliwayo and Brian Kansunzuma.
The activists who were arrested last week, are failing to raise the $1,000 bail amount they were granted by a Harare magistrate.
They are being accused of robbing two women in central Harare, when they were staging a 16 day protest against Robert Mugabe’s misrule.
They are however denying the charges.
During the prison visit, Biti urged the activists to remain focused and strong, “despite the attempts by Zanu PF to use state machinery to clamp down on opposition forces”.
Obert Mpofu Fraudster Councillor Threatens to Spill Beans if Axed
An ex-convict Municipality of Gwanda ZANU PF councillor who was once Minister Obert Mpofu’s right hand man before defrauding the minister of over $40 000 has defrauded the Municipality of thousands of dollars and threatens to expose fellow councillors and ZANU PF heavyweights’ corrupt activities in the town if he is suspended from council.
Councillor for Ward 9 in Gwanda town, Thulani Moyo who was dumped by Obert Mpofu for allegedly misappropriating rentals from the minister’s property has been found to have swindled the municipality of thousands of dollars in housing scam.
An audit has unearthed a massive scandal at Doerfontein Township in which the council lost thousands of dollars in underhand deals throwing the Zanu PF led municipality into turmoil.
Latest full council minutes show that the Councillor, Thulani Moyo and housing director, Sipho Mdlongwa, face suspensions after the audit committee recommended that appropriate action be taken against the duo.
The audit report reveals that the department of housing led by Mdlongwa supplied incorrect information on the status of stands number 6550 and 6447 which were declared vacant although investigations later showed they had been sold by Councillor Moyo.
Moyo, who is also the chairperson of the Housing Committee, was once convicted for fraud and served five years imprisonment at Khami Prison at the turn of the century before he was elected councillor in 2013.
“The two stands were clandestinely allocated to Councillor Thulani Moyo and the municipality lost $4 808.15. Evidence was produced in the meeting to the effect that Thulani Moyo went on to sale the two stands he had fraudulently obtained,” council minutes read.
Investigations by media revealed that Moyo sold the two stands to one Ignatius Nyirenda. According to the affidavits he penned, both stands were sold for $8, 000 each with Moyo receiving a total of $4 700 when the deal was sealed and balance due at a later stage.
The audit report further reveals that some stands could have been systematically concealed by the department of housing. According to the audit report there is an example “a client being entered into the beneficiary database as Ndondo John W, John Wittington Ndondo and John W Ndondo and with each variation of his name a different stand was assigned to him, yet in essence he had paid for only one stand.”
Moyo is not new to controversy having been dumped by minister Mpofu for allegedly misappropriating over $40 000 rentals from his Gwanda properties.
He is not known to be flashy after he once took the elderly from Gwanda on a trip to Chipangali in Bulawayo and bought some municipality workers uniforms. He is also known of making heavy donations at every funeral in the town and always has large sums of money in his pockets.
Moyo has, however, since being dumped by Mpofu fallen on hard times and his wife’s car almost went under the hammer last week after being seized by the messenger of court.
The Moyos reportedly made a last minute settlement for the Toyota Harrier to be spared.
Auditors have recommended that mayor Knowledge Ndlovu and town clerk Priscilla Nkala take appropriate action against Moyo and Mdlongwa. Moyo, however, has reportedly threatened to spill the beans on other councillors if they dare suspend him.
The municipality of Gwanda has in the past made questionable housing deals with Mornef Construction, a contractor who has won vast land in the Matebeleland South capital.
Warriors Face Dark Fight
THE Warriors face off Seychelles in their last Group A match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight, hoping for divine intervention in their bid to qualify for the knockout stages of the Cosafa tournament currently underway in Namibia.
Warriors during their afternoon training session at Gateway school yesterday
But Kalisto Pasuwa’s men must already be studying flight schedules after a sluggish start to the regional football tournament which saw them stuttering to a 0-0 draw against Madagascar on Monday night.
The result left them third in the group and two points behind joint leaders Swaziland and Madagascar following their 2-2 draw with the former in their opening match of the campaign.
With Swaziland hammering Seychelles 4-0 on Monday, the Warriors will be praying fervently that Swaziland and Madagascar, who face off in the other Group A match tonight, play to a draw.
If that happens, the Warriors still need to bury Seychelles by at least five unanswered goals to finish top of the group, which would see them advancing to the last eight of the tournament.
It is only that sequence of results that could see the Warriors progress to the next stage, where Zambia await the winners of this pool.
However, with the way Pasuwa’s men squandered opportunities against Madagascar, it’s a mission impossible.
Zimbabwe, still basking in the glow of the Warriors’ qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals to be hosted in Gabon with a game to spare after a convincing victory over the Flames of Malawi, have looked very ordinary at the Cosafa tournament without their foreign-based stars.
There is only one foreign-based player, Charlton Mashumba, in the team taking part at the regional tournament, but the Jomo Cosmos striker was guilty of missing chances against Madagascar. His strike partner veteran Obadiah Tarumbwa was also found wanting in front of goal.
Zimbabwe are one of the most successful teams at the regional tournament, having won the tournament a record four times. Zambia have also lifted the Cosafa Cup on four occasions.
Yet, the Warriors could find themselves crashing out of the tournament in the first round for the second successive year.
Last year, Pasuwa’s men, then under the guidance of his assistant Saul Chaminuka, displayed a lacklustre show at the Cosafa tournament in South Africa which saw them bowing out at the preliminary stage after they were handed a 4-1 hammering by Namibia.
While Pasuwa has proved his credentials at club and senior national team level, winning four successive titles with Dynamos and becoming the third coach to qualify Zimbabwe to the Afcon finals, he is yet to make a mark on the regional tournament.-Newsday
“Danger” for President as Mugabe Bodyguards are “Beaten Up”
Two ZRP officers allegedly beat up Robert Mugabe’s bodyguards as the President was on his way to Zvimba on Saturday.
Report by Newsday |The two cops who were on Monday taken to court for assaulting Mugabe’s motorcade outriders, yesterday denied threatening the life of the 92-year-old leader in any way.
Applying for bail through their lawyer only identified as Sithole, Munyaradzi Chivengwa and Lubelihle Nyathi argued that Mugabe was not the complainant in the case.
“The State did not substantiate the threat that was posed to His Excellency (Mugabe). The complainant is here in his personal capacity, and not on behalf of the President. The two are still serving members and have been serving since 2005. If they were a threat, they could have been nabbed long ago,” the lawyer said.
Opposing bail, prosecutor Francisca Mukumbiri said the pair’s offence was of a serious nature.
She said the accused officers had no right to disturb the smooth flow of Mugabe’s motorcade.
Mukumbiri also said the two were likely to abscond if granted bail considering the nature of their charges.
The State further submitted that investigations were yet to be finalised.
Sithole, however, told court that both officers were Zimbabweans, adding chances were very high that they were not going to be convicted.
She said the fact that the two were arraigned before the court on a full docket pointed to that the State had completed its investigations.
Through their lawyer, the two also told court they never refused to stop after seeing the outrider.
“It is also the accused’s defence that they only saw the biker when they were already turning into Samora Machel Avenue, which explains the three metres written in the State outline,” Sithole said.
Nyathi and Chivengwa argued that they were the ones who were assaulted, not the other way round.
The court heard that on Saturday, Chimoto was leading a team of six outriders escorting Mugabe on his way to his rural home in Zvimba.
It was said Chimoto stopped at the intersection of Samora Machel Avenue and Tredgold Road in Belvedere around 9:30pm and began controlling traffic to pave way for the motorcade.
Chivengwa and Nyathi then arrived in their private car and allegedly refused to follow orders to stop.
Chimoto was said to have then blocked their way, resulting in the two officers allegedly attacking him and the fourth outrider who arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.
Magistrate Tendai Mahwe will make his ruling today. – Newsday
CIO Agents Abduct Teacher
Terrence Mawawa, Zaka| State security agents last week raided Zaka Primary School and abducted a staff member who is a senior member of the Progressive Teachers Union(PTUZ).
In a telling reminder of the 2008 horror in which teachers and opposition supporters were abducted ahead of the disputed Presidential election run-off, CIO agents from Zaka office arrived at the school last Thursday and took away Matthew Eston, who is a PTUZ provincial member.
Sources at the school told ZimEye.com Eston was abducted in broad day light by the state security agents who accused him of denigrating President Robert Mugabe.
It is understood the CIO agents were helped by the school head, Mr Masese, who is a known Zanu PF activist, to track Eston.
“Eston was abducted in broad daylight by officials from the President’s office. They accused him of undermining the authority of the President and they also accused him of refusing to contribute money towards Mugabe’s birthday bash. They also ordered him not to associate with the PTUZ,” a teacher at the school said.
Eston was released after a few days of being subjected to intimidation and torture.
A jittery Eston also said he was slapped with open hands and burnt with unknown substances as the state security agents interrogated him. “All I can is that it was a horrible experience,” said Eston.
Local pressure group Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development(COTRAD), said state security agents do not have any right to abduct. “The incident is a reminder of the violence which rocked the whole nation in 2008. The CIO agents have to desist from acting as Zanu PF activists. Instead they must execute their duties in a professional manner. We view the incident as sad and unfortunate. As COTRAD we do not condone violence,” said the organisation’s Advocacy Officer, Brighton Ramusi.
More Mega Deals Smudged
Zimbabwe has clinched major business deals with Japanese firms that are expected to bring Foreign Direct Investment here in the next few months.
A trade delegation that went to Japan last week signed the deals which should open a new chapter in trade and business relations between the two countries.
The Japanese firms which the delegation clinched the deals with cannot be named yet owing to non-disclosure agreements that were signed.
It is understood that some local companies entered into a partnership with Japanese automobile makers that would see over 500 new and reconditioned vehicles as well as 10 000 tractors being shipped here for sale to locals on credit in the next six months.
The deals come hard on the heels of mega deals Zimbabwe signed with China in August 2014 following President Mugabe’s visit to the Asian country.
One of the companies will also set up a plant in the country to recondition vehicles and tractors. As part of the skills transfer, at least 40 Zimbabweans would be sent to Japan to get training on how to make and re-condition various models of the vehicles.
Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Chiratidzo Mabuwa, who led the delegation yesterday said most of the deals signed were at an advanced stage and most companies that participated were now seeking Government recommendation to proceed.
“The visit is built on the foundation laid by President Robert Mugabe during his visit to Japan in March. The Japanese were more than willing to engage. They knew very little about Zimbabwe and we told them that we are a peaceful people.
“We told them that the challenges faced by our country presented opportunities for serious investors. They wanted to know our investment climate, monetary laws, remittances, capital and dividends. They also wanted to know about our indigenisation laws and we told them it was almost similar to theirs,” she said.
She said the Japanese were also keen to know information on bond notes and after an explanation was given they were satisfied.
Deputy Minister Mabuwa said she had the opportunity to meet officials from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) who were still keen to fund the Zimbabwe/South Africa One Stop Border Post at the gathering where SADC countries interacted with over 300 Japanese companies in Tokyo.
Mrs Smelly Dube who was part of the delegation, said their trip to Japan was successful and thanked President Mugabe for paving the way for them.
“We met various business people in Japan but our aim was to explore the motor vehicle manufacturing industry and we managed to strike successful deals with one of the car manufacturers.
“Our economy is based on agriculture and therefore we will be bringing new and second hand tractors for cheap prices to our people as a way to boost productivity,” she said.
Mrs Dube said many Zimbabweans were struggling to buy cars through BeFoward that’s why they decided to engage the Japanese so that they could deal directly with the car manufacturers and get brand new cars which are durable.
She said they have since partnered with a local bank so that people could have access to loans to purchase the cars.
“We will be offering a system whereby our customers will be paying 50 percent for the cars and pay the remaining balance by way of instalments.”
She said they were using their own money to buy the cars.
“We have seen that the Japanese are strong and serious people to do business with,” she said.
She said they were also planning to send 40 students to Japan to go and learn how to make and re-condition the vehicles.
Harare South MP Shadreck Mashayamombe who was also part of the delegation, said they also engaged construction companies that were involved in infrastructure projects with a view to lure them to invest in the country.
“We also had fruitful discussions with a car manufacturer, which is a subsidiary of Toyota in a bid to grand Zimbabweans access to original and durable cars which are long lasting.
“We are aiming at bringing fresh deals and fresh capital into the country for the betterment of our economy,” he said.
Mashayamombe said they were fully aware that the country was currently facing cash crises that’s why they would be selling the cars by way of instalments.
During his visit to Japan in March President Mugabe told Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that Zimbabwe’s doors were open to Japanese investors, adding that the Asian economic giant could look forward to a “mutually rewarding relationship with us”.
After the meeting between the leaders, Japan announced a development package worth $5,3 million for the nation to buy equipment for road rehabilitation.-state media
“Mugabe In Secret Emergency Meetings With Security Chiefs”
Service Chiefs are holding secret meetings with President Robert Mugabe, by-passing their responsible ministerial bosses.
The officers who are supposed to report to their responsible ministers who in turn then report to the President, are
Zimbabwe’s Service Chiefs are Army Commander Constantine Chiwenga, Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri, Airforce Commander Perence Shiri and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner General Paradzai Zimbondi.
Mugabe, who has ruled the country since independence in 1980, has been using state security agents including these not only to spy on the opposition, but also his top officials.
The by-passing of ministers by Mugabe’s Service Chiefs was a major issue during the tenure of the unity government the aging leader had with the MDC formations between 2009-2013. The MDCs then complained that Service Chiefs were not respecting them and were defying their duty.
Mugabe used the same tactic to fire his former deputy, Joice Mujuru, where he said that he obtained the information of Mujuru plotting to assassinate him from his security.
It emerged in parliament, Monday that Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri who had been summoned by parliament did not turn up because he was having a security meeting with the President.
Dextor Nduna, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport who had summoned Chihuri to come and explain the heavy police presence on most roads and the controversy surrounding payment of spot fines announced that because of the security meeting, Chihuri was having with the President , the Police chief could not turn up.
“The Commissioner-General has apologised for his non-attendance today (yesterday) and we have interrogated the issue with Parliament administration,” he said.
“We will have to schedule another day for the hearing because Chihuri gives briefs to the Head of State President Robert Mugabe every Monday morning and so he could not attend the committee meeting.”
$107 Million TAP Health Funds Abused
Target Approach Programme funds meant for the country’s ailing health institutions have been abused, with at least $107 million going unaccounted for.
Irregularities in the disbursement of funds include the violation of tender procedures and procuring of obsolete equipment, among others.
A parliamentary portfolio committee on Health and Child Care said there was no proper supervision on the programme that was meant to give life to the ailing health institutions.
The committee’s investigations was triggered by Mberengwa North MP Tafanana Zhou (Zanu-PF) who raised a red flag on Mnene Mission in his constituency after allegations of failing to properly account for about $700 000 given to it.
Some of the observations were that budget and resource allocation was not above board while provincial medical directors and Zimbabwe Association of Church Related Hospitals were by-passed by the parent Ministry thereby could not supervise the programme.
“Tender procedures were flawed as the same company was contracted in almost all hospitals. Mission hospitals did not have the capacity to manage large sums of money and a lax financial system that allowed leakage of funds into individual pockets,” said Bulawayo Metropolitan MP Ms Nomvula Mguni (MDC-T) while presenting the committee report.
It was noted that PMDs were by-passed and were told not to interfere with the programme.
“Most of the hospitals negligently purchased dysfunctional equipment, disbursement of funds were inconsistent resulting in the stalling of some projects and Ministry of Health and Child Care disbursed funds to mission hospitals without receiving acquittals from these institutions,” said Ms Mguni.
The committee recommended disciplinary action against those that deviated from procedure.
“At Mnene, the committee was informed that tenders were approved by the Ministry of Health and Child Care and not by the hospital procurement and tender committee. It was further stated that some tenders that were approved by the State Procurement Board were overridden by the Ministry of Health and Child Care,” said Ms Mguni.
Bikita West MP Dr Munyaradzi Kereke (Zanu-PF), said while the report was good there was need to make such investigations on time and not several years later.
“Here we are looking at a proficient report borne out of a hardworking committee, but it is looking at 2012 long after the horse had bolted. We need to ensure that Government audits are as current as possible,” said Dr Kereke.
Gutu South MP Dr Paul Chimedza (Zanu-PF), said most of the observations occurred during the inclusive Government and it was the MDC-T that held the Ministry of Finance and Health and Child Care respectively.
Binga North MP Mr Prince Sibanda (MDC-T), complained that hospitals from Matabeleland region got paltry amounts while those from other areas got the bulk of the money.
Some of the hospitals visited include Mutambara, Mtshabezi, Kariyangwe, St Albert’s and Chikombedzi. State Media
Cash Crisis – Banks Slash Service Charges
Grappling with a serious cash crisis, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has, with immediate effect, reduced charges on all electronic transactions to ease pressure on banking clients and promote the use of electronic banking services.
In a statement yesterday, the RBZ said a decision had been reached following discussions between the apex bank, the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) and payment systems providers to reduce electronic banking charges with immediate effect.
“The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is pleased to advise the banking public that it has agreed with the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe and payment systems providers to reduce charges of electronic transactions in order to promote and encourage usage of electronic banking services.”
This comes as the nation is grappling with a cash crisis due to the high demand for the US dollar following weaknesses in other currencies in the approved multi-currency basket and the non-replenishment of nostro accounts because of illicit financial flows.
The crisis has seen depositors making numerous trips to banks to access their money, with each transaction attracting high charges.
According to the new charges announced yesterday, the maximum RTGS charge has been set at $5 from $10, while ATM charges did not change at $2.50.
Electronic funds transfer will now attract a minimum fee of 33 cents and a maximum of $2,10, while a point of sale (POS) transaction of up to $10 is now attracting a charge of 10 cents, and transactions above $10 will be charged 45 cents from $2,50. POS user charges have been removed, merchant service commission will now range from zero to a maximum of 1 percent for local transactions, while monthly administration charges will range from zero to a maximum of $5 for individuals.
Governor Dr John Mangudya said the new charges would go a long way in promoting the use of plastic money. State Media
Death Threats Against Mangoma
Elton Mangoma President of the Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe (RDZ) is said to have received death threats, through his mobile phone, last Thursday from unknown people.
According to the party’s information department, the former energy minister received the threat via his mobile on Thursday afternoon, at around 3:46pm.
The message, sent from a local mobile number 0718 547 844 read, “Ukauya Headlands tiri kukuuraya (We shall kill you if you set foot in Headlands)”
Mangoma, who is former MDC MP for Headlands, does not know who sent him the message.
He made a report on Monday at Malborough Police Station under case number RRB2742186.
One of the police officers who received the report is said to have tried to call the sender but there was no response from the number.
However, the former MDC-T treasurer general said the death threats will not stop him for fighting for the “democratisation” of the country.
“This is an act of cowardice and threats like that will not stop us to work for the betterment of this country and to get rid of Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF which has subjected the Zimbabwean people to poverty,” Mangoma was quoted as saying.
“We would want the law to take its course and investigate on the sender’s motive. If the police fail to come up with the culprit then we would know that it’s part and parcel of the State machinery that uses violence and intimidation to deprive the citizens from their right to opinion.”
Several of Mangoma’s supporters in March this year had their homes torched by suspected Zanu PF supporters in Headlands.
The incident was allegedly done to punish them for supporting the small opposition party.
Mangoma is not the first to receive death threats through his mobile as some MDC-T MPs last year also received death threats through the same way for heckling President Robert Mugabe during the opening of parliament.
Chihuri Cautions ‘Lazy’ Cops
The beleaguered Police Commissioner-General, Dr Augustine Chihuri, has warned that the force will soon be offloading redundant senior officers ‘who adopt a lackadaisical approach’ to their work once they have attained higher ranks in the force.
He said commanders at Police General Headquarters were keeping a forensic eye on all activities taking place in all the provinces.
He was addressing senior police officers attending an Assistant Commissioners’ Seminar 1/2016 in Harare yesterday.
“I am however aware of some senior officers who are in the habit of passively resisting directives and a penchant for adopting a ‘wait and see’ attitude hoping that we will not follow up on our expectations.
“Let me stress this and make my stance abundantly clear; the Command at Police General Headquarters is keeping a forensic eye on all activities taking place at your (assistant commissioners’) respective provinces. There are those who decide to adopt a lackadaisical approach towards work, either thinking that they have gotten the ranks they aspired for, or that they have seen it all in their current ranks,” he said.

State Media Flub On Legendary Mike Abrahams’ Death
Staff Reporter
Contrary to state media reports this morning that Arcadia United Football Club, legendary midfielder Mike Abrahams, had died, the man is actually alive and well and reported to have actually been at his work place at Delta Beverages in Bulawayo reading the news of his death.
A local daily ran a back page headline that the man nicknamed ‘Mabhurugwa’ during his heydays died last week on Wednesday and was buried in Bulawayo last Saturday.
The daily went further to quote a daughter of Abrahams named Naledi confirming the death of the once great midfield general.
Speaking on national radio this evening, prominent Bulawayo based sports commentator Sibongumusa Dlodlo dispelled the news saying that Abrahams was alive and well only shocked by the news of his death.
This is the second time in as many days that state media has provided a major boob in its sports reports. On Sunday the national broadcaster spent the better part of the day reporting that the Zimbabwe under 20 national soccer team had defeated Cameroon by a goal to nil while the team had actually lost by three goals to nil.
An official at the ZIFA offices in Bulawayo told ZimEye.com that they were also shocked when they read of Abrahams’ death in the media. The official said they doubted the news at first as there was no way a character of Abraham’s would die and be buried without the news getting to anyone at ZIFA or any of his former team mates.
“We doubted this whole thing from the onset and questioned how he would even be buried in Bulawayo when he is an Arcadia suburb born boy of which his community would not have taken to him being buried in Bulawayo,” said the official.
Meanwhile a ZimEye correspondent claims that a Mike Abrahams from Bulawayo died in the course of last week and may have been the source of the state media story.
Mujuru Rips Off Gloves
Former vice president and now leader of the Zimbabwe People First (ZPF), Joice Mujuru, is finally hitting the campaign trail ahead of the much-anticipated 2018 national elections — beginning with a star rally scheduled for Stanley Square in Bulawayo on Saturday.
Her buoyant spokesperson, Gift Nyandoro, told the Daily News yesterday that the popular widow of the revered late liberation struggle icon, General Solomon Mujuru, had now completed putting together a comprehensive and countrywide political programme, as she bids to become Zimbabwe’s first female leader by removing President Robert Mugabe from power in two years’ time.
He said the programme included “the mother of the nation” meeting her supporters around the country and “offering practical solutions to the myriad economic challenges that Zimbabwe is facing”.
“The mother of the nation will make her maiden appearance before the nation as leader of ZPF on Saturday where she will address supporters at Stanley Square in Bulawayo.
“It’s at that venue that Zimbabweans will get solutions from the future president of the country to all the issues relating to their suffering, including the cash crisis, shortage of medicines in hospitals and the unacceptably high unemployment rate among many other pressing issues,” Nyandoro said.
By moving to officially launch her campaign, Mujuru has now snuffed discordant voices within her fledgling party, as well as snide remarks by her political competitors that ZPF had suffered a stillbirth because she was reluctant to take Mugabe head-on for a number of reasons — including a supposed fear of being arrested on untested allegations of corruption, that was allegedly committed while she was in government.
Mujuru was hounded out of Zanu PF and the government in December 2014 on dubious charges of plotting to oust from power and assassinate Mugabe.
She had appeared to give grist to rumours that she had no appetite to tangle with Mugabe by going into hibernation soon after launching ZPF early this year — and also failing to conduct a single public meeting since then.
But Nyandoro retorted yesterday that the allegations that she had developed cold feet were being peddled by Mugabe and Zanu PF party as an act of self-preservation by the ruling party.
“Let me state quite categorically that such Machiavellian political tactics will not work, because Mujuru is absolutely determined to rescue long-suffering Zimbabweans from Zanu PF”.
“From Bulawayo, the president (Mujuru) will address a rally in Harare before she heads to Masvingo and Manicaland, and then the rest of the length and breadth of the country, laying out her vision and giving policy direction on how ZPF, the only solution there is in the country, will extricate Zimbabweans from the Zanu PF-induced suffering.
“We know that Zanu PF has devised a strategy to infiltrate us and derail our progress to make sure that the party does not see the light of day but they have since failed because we are on a roll.
“The party is much stronger and intact than ever before now, and we are expecting tens of thousands of supporters to throng Stanley Square.
“We also invite all supporters of the opposition party in waiting, Zanu PF, who face an uncertain future because of the ugly succession fights in the party to come and hear the future president speaking,” Nyandoro said.
He also moved to dispel recent media reports that there was growing disharmony in ZPF and that some of her supporters who had come from Zanu PF were ditching her for the former liberation movement.
“If you are talking about reports that there is one of our members by the name Jim Kunaka, who has supposedly left us, then to be honest with you, I am shocked because when I checked with our data base we don’t have anyone with such a name.
“Maybe it could be that Kunaka, who led the notorious Chipangano in Zanu PF, may have tried to join ZPF only to realise that the party was not for those whose hands were dripping with blood, and then left before being given a membership card.
“Concerning reports that the party was sidelining its elders Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa, again that is unfounded because you have never heard them complaining about that.
“We value our elders so much for their wisdom and they are the ones who give the party inspiration,” Nyandoro said.
By firmly signalling her desire to compete for the leadership of the country in 2018, Mujuru is now set to do battle with Mugabe, who is Zanu PF’s presidential candidate, as well as indefatigable opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai in those much-awaited polls.
But how things will eventually pan out then is hard to tell at this point, given the growing calls for her and Tsvangirai to join hands and take on Mugabe and Zanu PF together.
When Mujuru was previously asked if she would consider working with Tsvangirai, she indicated then that she was more than willing to do so — a sentiment that is shared by the MDC president.
This possibility has caused visible anxiety within Zanu PF which is ravaged by its seemingly unstoppable factional and succession wars that have seen embattled Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa come under increasing pressure — amid ruling party fears that the grand coalition could spell doom for Mugabe and his minions. UK Shuts Down Grace Mugabe Protege’s Clinic
After a successful campaign by the SuperVigil organisation, British watchdogs have closed a GP surgery in Carlton belonging to a Grace Mugabe protege after concerns were raised to their inspection group.
Mugabe protege Dr Sylvester Nyatsuro owner of The Willows Medical Centre in Church Street, Carlton has been shut down after a visit by the Care Quality Commission last Monday.
Inspectors visited the surgery and took immediate action to close it. A CQC official referred ZimEye.com to a National Health Service statement to the effect (CLICK HERE TO READ THE REPORT).
A source who could not be named told ZimEye.com the CQC visited on the morning of the 6th June and lifted service requirements “that must be implemented by lunch time.”
“They just came on the same day and ordered us to make changes for blood testing on the same day,” they told ZimEye.
Nyatsuro’s surgery will remain closed until further notice during which time the surgery cannot provide any appointments or repeat prescriptions.
A spokesperson for the service told the Nottingham Post publication: “The CQC is taking action to protect the safety welfare of patients at The Willows Medical Centre, on Church Street, Carlton, Nottingham, following an inspection in Monday (6 June).
“Inspectors visited the surgery following concerns that had been raised and, as a result, urgent enforcement action is being taken. CQC is working closely with Nottingham North and East CCG and NHS England to ensure any patients of the surgery have access to GP services.
“While our legal processes do not allow us to go into further detail at this time, we will publish a full report of our findings in due course. Any action CQC takes is open to appeal.”
The findings of the inspection will be published at a later date.
From Monday any patients who need an appointment will need to contact either Peacock Healthcare in Carlton Hill, Park House Medical Centre on Burton Road or Netherfield Centre on Forester Street.
All patients registered with the medical centre will be sent a letter advising of the closure; any patients with appointments this week will be contacted by telephone.
Sam Walters, Chief Officer, Nottingham North and East CCG, which commissions services for patients in the area, said they would do their best to ensure patients can still get appointments.
She said: “As commissioners of GP services in Gedling, our priority is ensuring patients affected by this closure have access to high quality, safe and compassionate care.
“To enable this, we will support Park House, Peacock and Netherfield to ensure they have the capacity and GP provision to meet patients’ needs.
“We are working closely with the CQC and NHS England team to address the issues highlighted in the CQC inspection. If patients wish to discuss any concerns regarding the surgery closure they should contact our Patient Experience Team on 0800 028 3693, selecting option two.”
The centre has been at the centre of protests over the past year as well.
The surgery was visited by protestors after GP Sylvester Nyatsuro was accused of seizing land from Zimbabwean tobacco farmers.
Dr Nyatsuro says the land lawfully belongs to him and his wife, Veronica, and rejects allegations that he has taken it as part of Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe’s controversial redistribution scheme.
War Vets Gang Up Against President Mugabe
WAR veterans across the political divide are planning an audacious “coalition” to force President Robert Mugabe “to tell us where he wants to take this country” NewsDay has learnt.
Mugabe last week accused war veterans of dabbling in dissident activities by declaring Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa as his successor.
This angered the 92-year-old leader who immediately threatened to crush them in the same way he handled the dissident insurgency in the 1980s.
Although intricate details of the war veterans’ plan were still sketchy, insiders revealed that Mugabe’s description of the former freedom fighters as “dissidents” has pushed the war veterans to the wall.
Bernard Manyadza, a former Zanla commander and senior member of the Joice Mujuru-led opposition Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF), yesterday said it was important that war veterans worked together to dislodge Mugabe.
“We are ready to work with all war veterans because our vision as we fought the war was for a free and democratic Zimbabwe. We are surprised that Mugabe now wants to confine war veterans to a charity organisation,” said Chinyadza, also known by his nom de guerre, Parker Chipoyera.
Insiders within the ex-fighters’ ranks said Mugabe had stirred a hornet’s nest.
“War veterans created Zanu PF and elected Mugabe leader. For some reason, he wants to turn around and claim they have no right to discuss the country’s political direction,” a top former freedom fighter who spoke on condition of anonymity said.
“It is astounding that this man wants to circumvent the laws of nature in which naturally people plan for tomorrow and wants us to just sit and watch him die in office without a plan as to what will happen tomorrow. It does not work, like that.”
Ex-Zipra fighter Moses Mzila-Ndlovu concurred, but would not commit to working with Zanu PF-linked former freedom
fighters.
“I agree that Mugabe has betrayed the ideals of the liberation struggle, but he has always been like that. The Zanu PF war veterans trust Mugabe into the leadership and have an obligation to remove him. But I think it’s a bridge too far now. They have realised it rather too late that Mugabe is anti-people and has created institutions that serve his personal interests,” he said.
Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) spokesperson Douglas Mahiya declined to speak on the issue.
“We have said we are consulting because we did not attend the central committee. We do not just comment on hearsay,” he said.
But a group linked to the G40 faction in Zanu PF defended Mugabe’s tough stance against the Christopher Mutsvangwa-led ZNLWVA.
The group’s de facto leader, Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Mandi Chimene, said: “I said it in the past and people thought I was mad. This whole thing confirms what we have seen and said in the past.”
Her sidekick George Mlala agreed.
“We (war veterans) are the children of Zanu PF and during the war, we only served as the military wing. We are still maintaining our position that the party is supreme and those who think they can change the leadership system are just being renegades,” he said. – Neswday
Mnangagwa Breaks His Silence
VICE-PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa last week reportedly challenged his adversaries in the ongoing Zanu PF succession fight to publicly proffer evidence of his plot to topple President Robert Mugabe.
In an impassioned defence of his political life, Mnangagwa sources claimed, told the Zanu PF central committee meeting last Thursday that he had spent the better part of his life defending Mugabe and would never “think of deposing him”.
“During the closed door session, a lot of people, including (Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister) Mandi Chimene, took turns to berate Mnangagwa, accusing him of having a secret agenda to remove the President (Mugabe). They, as always, accused him of leading a faction that is planning to push the President out of office before the 2018 elections,” NewsDay heard.
Contacted for comment, Chimene curtly said: “Write whatever it is that you have heard. I do not want to talk about it.”
Party insiders said Mnangagwa went on the offensive after party officials relentlessly threw brickbats challenging him to come clean on the issue.
“I spent over 16 years sleeping outside protecting this man (pointing at Mugabe) while he slept on a bed. I cannot then turn around and plan against him. I know there are mapete (cockroaches), who might want to fathom the idea of trying to remove him. My job is to defend him and if I catch one of the cockroaches, then I will crush them before informing the President because it is part of my job,”
Mnangagwa reportedly told his stunned audience, who included Mugabe and his wife, First Lady Grace Mugabe.
Zanu PF spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo declined to discuss the matter.
“Where did you get that from? Let your sources give you more details,” he said before he hung up his mobile phone.
But party sources insisted Mnangagwa kept fighting to save his skin in the process, taking some of his backers by surprise.
“The VP also said the Presidency is aware of plans by reactionaries to set them up against each other,” a source said.
“He told the central committee that they are aware, but were only holding back because the reactionaries have not really threatened the throne, adding they would be crushed.”
Mnangagwa spoke after an angry Mugabe lashed out at war veterans, who have declared that the VP was their preferred candidate to take over from the ailing 92-year-old Zanu PF leader.
Mugabe described the former freedom fighters as dissidents and threatened to crush them.
Central committee member, Esau Mupfumi was said to have tried to record Mnangagwa’s response, before being admonished by Grace.
The sources also said Grace, who has been pitted against Mnangagwa as adversaries for Mugabe’s throne, applauded the VP for his candid talk.
Zanu PF has for years been at war with itself over who should take over after Mugabe.
The internal fights resulted in Vice-President Joice Mujuru being kicked out of the party on allegations of plotting to unseat Mugabe although she has rejected the claims, challenging her accusers to bring evidence.
Mnangagwa took over Mujuru’s position as VP in 2014 and former freedom fighters have since rallied behind him as their preferred candidate to succeed Mugabe.
However, the G40 faction has been fighting hard to stop Mnangagwa’s ascendency and Mugabe seemed to have thrown the cat among the pigeons after his public rant against the former freedom fighters.
It is not the first time Mugabe has lashed out at his lieutenants over the issue, despite also publicly encouraging the party to pick his successor.
Academic and political commentator, Ibbo Mandaza said Mnangagwa had probably played “a 2004 on his followers” referring to the events that followed what is known as the Tsholotsho Declaration that sought to catapult him into the presidium, but failed.
“It is a replay of 2004, but it is a whole new ball game when it comes to whether his colleagues buy his claims. I am not really sure what it means in the bigger scope of succession,” Mandaza said.
But another analyst, Pedzisai Ruhanya had a different view.
“Mnangagwa was part of the team that created the current State that we call Zimbabwe. He knows the blind corners and is probably Mugabe’s best student. He understands him and would not want to do what the public expects him to do,” he said.
“Until such time he comes out and openly rejects war veterans, then it might be premature to say he has dumped anyone. Some people are seducing Mnangagwa to rebel against Mugabe, but he will not. Mugabe has both de jure and de facto power in the State and party and can use that against anyone. Mnangagwa is aware of that.” – Newsday
Chihuri Attacks Dokora
Zimbabwe Republic Police chief, Augustine Chihuri has condemned the Primary and Secondary Education Minister Lazarus Dokora’s National Pledge saying it is unholy.
Dokora has of late become unpopular for pushing for the introduction of controversial anti Christian policies in the schools.
Within a space of two months, he has pushed for the scraping of voluntary club Scripture Unions from all schools, just as he introduced his controversial National Pledge vow.
Police officers who attended Chihuri’s church service at Ross Camp in Bulawayo, where the Police chief is forcing all police officers nationwide to join his church, reveal that Chihuri told them Dokora’s National Pledge misleads people into making them to believe that there are many gods to be worshiped.
Part of the National Pledge which Dokora has imposed on all Primary and Secondary school children to recite, parrots both living and departed Zanu PF top officials.
“During his sermon the commissioner general castigated publicly minister of primary and secondary education for his National pledge which he said to be ungodly,” said one of the police officers.
“He said the prayer does not specify as to which god which god it is directed to. He said there are so many gods” the true God and idols,” said another one.
Last month church denominations and civil society organisations in Harare, demonstrated against the National Pledge.
The civil society said instead of forcing children to worship his Zanu PF government, Dokora should concentrate on improving the welfare of teachers who are failing to access their little salaries from the banks.
Warriors face AFCON disqualification over Chiyangwa’s NFAZ
Government through the Sports and Reconciliation Commission, has dismissed the existence of the newly established National Football Association of Zimbabwe (NFAZ), arguing that ZIFA remains the name of the authority running football in Zimbabwe.
Sports and Recreation Acting Director Joseph Muchechetere made this known to the media today.
Muchechetere said that government does not recognise the new association fast trekked into existence to replace ZIFA by Football body President Philip Chiyangwa.
Chiyangwa came up with the new association in order to escape paying massive debts incurred by ZIFA before he took over helm of local football.
Muchechetere said that several steps were not followed in disbanding ZIFA and establishing NFAZ which makes the later organisation non existent.
The Sports Commission presented several letters that it has written to ZIFA advising of the non existence of NFAZ which ZIFA choose not to adhere to.
According to one of the letters sent to ZIFA, the dissolution of ZIFA was done unconstitutionally as no special general meeting to dissolve the association was convened neither was the 75% stakeholders quorum to dissolve the association reached at the meeting where the resolution to dissolve was passed.
The Sports and Recreation Commission claims to have already prepared correspondence to Fifa advising government’s position on the matter.
The involvement of government on the matter will lead to an automatic dismissal of Zimbabwean National Soccer teams from all Fifa accredited competitions.
The ban will affect the senior men’s national team qualification to participate in the 2017 African Cup of Nations and the ladies team’s participation in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
Fifa has in the meantime also rejected the establishment of NFAZ advising ZIFA of the procedures to be followed in moving from ZIFA to NFAZ.
Key element advised by Fifa is that there should thorough stakeholder and public consultations before the resolution is reached.
NFAZ President Philip Chiyangwa however remains adamant that ZIFA is no longer in existence.
In his campaign to winning ZIFA presidency Chiyangwa promised to get rid of all ZIFA debts within his first year in office and this latest move is viewed as a clandestine way of escaping the debts.
DIAMOND LOOTING: Minister’s Secretary Fingered
The diamond ($15billion) looting fiasco has taken a twist with the Secretary for Mines and Mining Development Professor Francis Gudyanga, being fingered after being caught holding three key cash-loophole posts.
It has emerged from a state media investigation that Gudyanga is chairing three parastatal boards that fall under his ministry, a move that has created conflict of interest and flouting of the national code on corporate governance that bars permanent secretaries from sitting on such boards. This comes amid accusations that Prof Gudyanga single-handedly hired Mr Mark Mabhudhu from the now dissolved Marange Resources to be the chief executive officer for the newly-established Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC).
Prof Gudyanga and Mr Mabhudhu worked together at Marange Resources and the latter’s appointment at the ZCDC came as a shocker since he was coming from one of the worst performing companies operating in Chiadzwa.
Mr Mabhudhu has since been fired.
The boards that Prof Gudyanga is chairing should be accountable to him as the ministry’s accounting officer and the current arrangement, which is at odds with the code, left him in an awkward position where he reports to himself. The parastatals that he chairs include the Zimbabwe Consolidated Mining Company, Mineral Exploration and Marketing Company and the Zimbabwe School of Mines.
It is also alleged that he had some links with a Dubai based firm, which is the largest buyer of Zimbabwe’s diamonds. In an interview with the Herald, Prof Gudyanga said he was only chairing the boards in an interim capacity.
Although he said his mandate at the said parastatals was temporary, the law does not allow one to act as chairman of an organisation for more than three months. Said Prof Gudyanga: “The ZCDC chairing is just interim. What happened is that when we were working on the consolidation, we hoped that the other companies will come in the consolidation. So, what was appointed as the board was half of the board.
“The other half was going to come from the other companies and since the other companies didn’t come in (and) because we have to go ahead, a board was appointed and new names have been submitted to the board, so I am only interim until the full board is appointed. So there are names that are being considered.”
With regards to the Mineral Exploration and Marketing Company, Prof Gudyanga again said he was only acting. He said his occupation of those offices was blessed by the Minister of Mines and Mining Development Cde Walter Chidhakwa in consultation with “higher offices.”
“Ever since Government decided that MMCZ will be transformed into a Mineral Exploration and Marketing Company and the processes have been in progress, and as soon as that is completed a new board will be appointed,” he said.
“We had anticipated that this will be a quick one but it’s going through a parliamentary pace. The minister with concurrence of higher offices felt that as a ministry we want to have a close monitoring of this transition from MMCZ to a new company and as soon as this is completed, there will be a new board as appropriate in the normal fashion.
“There is nothing sinister. Yes, the ministry is keeping a close watch on our parastatals so that we protect the interests of the country at all costs and at all times.” Asked on the rational of appointing Mr Mabhudhu to the ZCDC, Prof Gudyanga said Mr Mabhudhu outperformed other prospective candidates during the interviews.
“When we advertised for the post at ZCDC, he applied and at the interview he outperformed all the others easily so because he has a 20 years of diamond experience from South Africa, Botswana De Beers,” said Prof Gudyanga.
“It was not because he came from Marange and I think you should emphasise that. He just outperformed everyone else who applied for the post. “The management executives appointed to the ZCDC were done by this board, and these executives were appointed on a probation basis.”
He said Mr Mabhudhu was, however, fired after failing a polygraph test. Legal experts yesterday said one cannot be just dismissed from work on the basis of polygraph tests, which might raise eyebrows on why Mr Mabhudhu was fired in a haste.
“One has to be charged first and called for a hearing where the employer or anyone conducting that hearing should lead evidence. You cannot be just fired based on the evidence of a machine.”
Sources claimed that a Mr Mabhudhu failed to perform according to expectations at the ZCDC and the polygraph tests, and his subsequent firing was a soft landing devised for him by senior officials from the ministry.
Harare Mayor Suspended by MDC-T
The MDC-T has suspended Acting Harare Mayor Christopher Mbanga and has recalled him from Town House for failing to recognise the appointment of former banker Mr James Mushore as the city’s town clerk.
The party’s National Standing Committee met last week and unanimously agreed to suspend Clr Mbanga who is now expected to appear before the party’s National Disciplinary Committee within the next 14 days.
Clr Mbanga, however, said he is yet to receive a letter outlining the position, although reports suggest that the party’s secretary for local government, Mr Eddie Cross, served him with the letter.
Government reversed the appointment of Mr Mushore soon after a council meeting that announced his appointment, saying council flouted procedures for appointing a town clerk as outlined in the Urban Councils Act and Local Government Board regulations.
According to the law in question, council was supposed to submit three candidates to the Local Government Board for approval.
Government later suspended Mayor Barnard Manyenyeni over the issue.
MDC-T spokesperson Mr Obert Gutu yesterday confirmed that Clr Mbanga has been suspended.
“Our National Standing Committee had a meeting on Wednesday last week. It was unanimously resolved that we suspend Clr Mbanga with immediate effect.
“He will appear before the National Disciplinary Committee chaired by our national chairman Mr Lovemore Moyo within 14 days,” he said.
Said Clr Mbanga: “Communications of that nature come from the secretary general (Mr Douglas Mwonzora). That has not been communicated to me yet.”
Communications seen by The Sunday Mail show that Mr Mushore had threatened to leave if MDC-T failed to get rid of Clr Mbanga.
In the communication, Mr Mushore calls Clr Mbanga “the head of the snake” at Harare City Council. MDC-T councillors are deeply divided over Mr Mushore’s appointment to the extent of failing to even convene a special full council meeting to hammer out a solution.
Last week Mr Mushore questioned Clr Mbanga on why he had taken time to request him to go on leave since the Special Council meeting which sent him on forced leave until determination of matters before the courts.
“I hope that the sudden delivery of your month old letter to me has not been motivated by any attempts on your part to derail the meeting which you are aware I requested with the chamber secretary Mrs (Josephine) Ncube, to begin the investigation into alleged corrupt activities and misuse of ratepayers’ funds,” reads the letter.
“It is my sincere hope that your reluctance to involve yourself actively and your apparent support of her being titled ‘Acting Town Clerk’ is not the motivation behind this special resolution letter as my mandate requires me to serve the ratepayers with transparency.”
In response to Mr Mushore’s letter, Clr Mbanga said: “I told him if you are town clerk as you purport, why didn’t you read the council resolution? I also told him that he was supposed to be in the chamber, so why did he want me to write to him, when he is the custodian of council minutes.”-state media
Dynamos Accident Victims Named
Five of the seven Dynamos fans who perished in an accident along Harare-Bulawayo Road on Saturday, have been named by police.
ZRP cops said two of the fans, who were on their way to Gweru for a Castle Lager Premier League match between Dynamos and Chapungu, are yet to be identified.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, identified the five as Last Nezandonyi (29), Peter Maemba (34), Prince Nheweyembwa (34), Mahwupete Rukudzo (43) and Spencer Gwasira (50).
The deceased, believed to be part of the club’s fans from its Harare chapter, died after the Iveco bus they were travelling in burst its rear tyre, veered off the road and rolled three times before landing on its side at the 173km peg between Kadoma and Kwekwe near ZRP Battlefields.
The supporters were going to the Glamour Boys’ match against Chapungu in Gweru, which DeMbare won 1-0.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba urged people who are missing their relatives to visit Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary.
She urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is deeply concerned with the loss of lives in road accidents. We are urging motorists to avoid speeding and to exercise caution when travelling,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
Kereke Rape Ruling Out in 4 Weeks
Judgment in the case in which Zanu-PF Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke is accused of raping his wife’s 13-year-old niece in 2010 and indecently assaulting her sister, will be delivered on July 11.
Regional magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa set the date after the defence closed its case.
Kereke, through his lawyer Mr Erum Mutandiro, called seven witnesses including his wife and mother-in-law who testified in his favour.
Private prosecutor Mr Charles Warara also called seven witnesses and the trial lasted for almost six months.
Mr Warara is expected to file his closing submissions on June 22 and Mr Mutandiro would respond on July 1. Both parties advised the court that they would present oral submissions on July 4 in support of their written ones. Kereke will know his fate on July 11.
However, the prosecution’s bid to have the investigating officer one Chief Inspector Mbiringa called as a court witness hit a brick wall after Mr Mupeiwa dismissed it.
In his application, Mr Warara said there were so many issues that were not clarified from the testimony of the defence witnesses hence the need for the court to call Chief Insp Mbiringa.
He argued that the issue of the gun was not investigated despite an order from the head of the Victim Friendly Unit. Mr Warara questioned why the gun was not produced in court.
In his ruling, Mr Mupeiwa said: “In this courtroom, evidence was led on the issue of the gun from the RBZ officials. The gun issue was canvassed hence it is no longer an issue why the police did not bring it to court. The evidence is already before the court,” he said.
Mr Warara also wanted Chief Insp Mbiringa to tell the court why Kereke was never arrested as he was brought to court by way of summons.
Mr Mupeiwa said the police used its discretion on how they bring suspects to court.
“Where there is a reasonable ground, the police investigate first and bring the suspect to court. The methods of bringing those suspects are known to them. If the police viewed that he was not a flight risk, it was up to them to bring him on summons hence in this case they exercised their own discretion,” ruled Mr Mupeiwa.
In the application, the prosecution also accused the police of conducting investigations poorly, but the court ruled that the ground was not enough to convince the court to call the IO.
Mr Mupeiwa said the prosecution had the docket before the commencement of trial hence should have studied it and looked at the grey areas.
He said: “The court should not make a ruling which would be construed to be helping one party over the other. It was the prosecution’s duty to secure all its witnesses before trial commencement.
“If I am to grant this application, prejudice to the accused person would be high. Accused person would not have a chance to call other witnesses therefore he might plead with the court to be allowed to bring more witnesses and that means this case will go on and on,” he said.
Mr Mutandiro opposed the prosecution’s application and Mr Mupeiwa ruled in favour of the defence and dismissed it for lack of merit. – state media
An Eye For An Eye Makes The World Blind – DOHRFA
By Oluhle Sibanda
A Defenders of Human Rights For All (DOHRFA) Trustee, Charles Ndlovu, is seriously concerned about the violation of human rights as a grave issue which should not be taken lightly by inter international bodies and champions of democracy.
This comes in the wake of media reports of yet another Dzamara/Yard activist, Roy Issah who was recently killed under unclear circumstances.
Speaking on the eve of a DOHRFA launch Ndlovu invited the public to the event that will take place on the 25th June 2016 in Reading. “You are all cordial invited to the launch event of a truly global human rights organization. More details on the flyer below,” said Ndlovu.
DOHRFA is campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. It is a global human rights organization which promotes and protects universal recognized human rights and fundamental freedoms. They advocate for peaceful resolution to conflicts.
Ndlovu further explained, “some of our objectives are to monitor abuses of human rights both locally and globally also to relieve the suffering and distress of individuals who are victims of human rights abuse.”
Majome Honours ‘Missing Diamonds’ Actor Mudzvova
Outspoken Member of Parliament for Harare West, Jessie Majome has honoured the courage exhibited by solo actor Silvano’s Mudzvova in his popular play Missing Diamonds : I want my share.
Speaking at the show’s premiere, Majome said the actor had shown audacity by capturing in detail the anger and frustration of many Zimbabweans over the missing money that could have turned around the country’s economic fortunes.
“I want to say thank you,” Majome said to Mudzvova.
The MP said it was time people got rid of fear and spoke out against the excesses of a government that has long lost touch with the realities of citizens’ daily hardships.
Mudzvova’s play deals with real life issues of a population that has become hostage to its own government.
The play was inspired by President Robert Mugabe’s embarrassing admission that about $15 billion raised from diamond sales was missing during a televised boadcast ofhis annual birthday interview.
The play was first staged at Parliament building on April 13 leading to a nasty brush with the police.
In 2014, Mudzvova released a satirical film, Kumasowe, which chronicled the battering of several anti–riot police officers, who had accompanied Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe president, Johannes Ndanga to effect a ban of Johane Masowe eChishanu apostolic sect in Budiriro.
In 2011, Mudzvova came up with a play titled The Confessor that tackles political violence inspired by “a startling admission” by a chief in Zaka that he actually “played a part in the violence that rocked his area during the June 27, 2008 presidential election run-off poll”.
Mudzvova made headlines in 2007 after he was arrested after the launch of his play, Final Push, which was seen in some circles as a veiled instigation for people to oust the Zanu PF regime.
The award-winning actor has since said he is now living in fear.
“Knowing how things are in Zimbabwe, I am now living in fear that something might happen either to me or my family,” he told NewsDay recently.

Pastor ‘Steals’ Cash At Church Meeting
Terrence Mawawa, Gutu | A pastor with a local church stole $ 200 cash meant for the construction of a church hall in Chivhu District.
There was furore at the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church meeting held in Gutu last week when the money which was donated towards the construction of the regilious institution’s hall disappeared.
The pastors present began to accuse each other of theft, leading to a thorough search. The money was found stashed in one Pastor Mubaiwa’s pockets.
The pastor immediately left the place in a huff following the altercation. According to Pastor Zvenyika who is one of the senior clergymen, the case was being dealt with by the responsible disciplinary committee. “I can confirm that some money went missing at the meeting held in the Mupako area in Gutu. One of our pastors was found in possession of the money so I have since informed Bishop Mugodhi about the whole issue. We are waiting to hear the final verdict because the matter has been referred to the disciplinary committee,” said Pastor Zvenyika.
Although Pastor Mubaiwa could not be reached for a comment, Pastor Zvenyika said the matter would be dealt with internally.
“The matter will be dealt with internally since there is a committee responsible for such matters,” he said.
War Vets at War with Mphoko
The long-running feud between Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko and disaffected war veterans loyal to his embattled counterpart, VP Emmerson Mnangagwa, has now hit an all-time low, with one freedom fighter telling the Daily News yesterday that they were now “officially at war” with him.
At the same time, other former freedom fighters who are operating outside the ruling Zanu PF say they “regret having plucked (President Robert) Mugabe from obscurity” to be their leader — adding that he was now allegedly “so drunk with power that he wants to succeed himself”.
The battle of attrition between Mphoko and the main faction of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has been raging on for months, with the group’s members passing an unprecedented stunning vote of no confidence in the VP earlier this year.
So bad and fraught has the relationship become, that the war veterans claim that Mugabe’s furious outburst against them on Friday was allegedly “at the instigation” of Mphoko who had earlier in the week accused them of engaging in treasonous activities by endorsing Mnangagwa as their preferred successor to Mugabe.
It was also reported at the weekend that Mphoko had allegedly presented a report to Mugabe last week in which ZNLWVA chairperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, secretary general Victor Matemadanda and spokesperson Douglas Mahiya were described as threats to national stability.
“When we said that Mphoko was an accomplished war deserter all along, some people thought that we were being unfair to him. Now, it’s all in the open and everyone can see him for what he is. We are now officially at war with him, and he has no one to blame but himself. He is going down,” one of the war veterans, who spoke to the Daily News yesterday, said.
In the meantime, war veteran Parker Chipoyera — who is now among the senior ex-combatants in former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party, reiterated yesterday that were it not for freedom fighters “Mugabe would not be the president now”.
This follows Mugabe’s threat last week to deal ruthlessly with all war veterans who are pushing for the ascendancy of Mnangagwa to the throne.
Chipoyera, whose real name is Bernard Manyadza, also told the Daily News that Mugabe was now “no longer fit to continue as the country’s president”.
“He is no longer suitable to govern. Chaanogona kutaura chirungu asi kutungamira nyika nekumanager economy haagone (He is only good at speaking English but is clueless about running the country and managing the economy).
“Izvozvi muhomwe mangu hamuna mari asi mwana wake akanosunungukira kuSingapore (as we speak I do not have a cent in my pocket but Mugabe’s daughter went all the way to Singapore to give birth there),” he said.
The forthright Chipoyera also said Mugabe was “so obsessed with power and wants to crush anybody who opposes him”.
“Kudhakwa nemasimba (He is now drunk with power). He is not qualified to be the country’s president anymore. That is why the comrades (war veterans) are saying let us find an alternative. He now has the king mentality. This is a democratic country and that is why it is called a republic,” he said.
He added that there was “no democracy in Zanu PF and that anybody who dares to challenge that is labelled a dissident”.
Chipoyera’s sentiments came after Mugabe said war veterans must not bully the ruling party and impose on it who should take over from him.
“The dissidents tried it, they were war veterans, and you know what happened. Lots of trouble, lots of fighting, lots of suffering of course to our people and these dissidents activities cannot be allowed.
“Do we see another rise of dissident activity? The leadership with our experience says no to the war veterans’ association. It’s not your function, it’s not your business to talk a lot on who shall succeed the president,” Mugabe thundered.
However, Chipoyera said Mugabe had “forgotten that it was the people who saved him and pushed him to be in his position”.
“Macomrades akarwa kuti abude mujeri muna1974 (war veterans fought hard for him to be released from prison in 1974),” he said, adding that Mugabe had much to be grateful for, for freedom fighters accepting to be led by him.
Chipoyera also said that the threat against the war veterans was “synonymous with the Gukurahundi era” where an estimated 20 000 innocent civilians were killed mainly in Matabeleland and the Midlands — all because “Mugabe did not want to work with others”.
“You (Mugabe) want one centre of power and now want to use the scorched-earth policy to crush the comrades. We all know that the campaign which led to the killing of the 20 000 innocent civilians in the 1980s that were called dissidents was only led by less than 100 people.
“That is the same trick that is being used now. That’s outrageous. Who are you (Mugabe) targeting, because the comrades are the ones who took you from jail. You are who you are because of the war veterans.
“You go to Singapore to get treatment and your daughter flew over 8 000 kilometres to give birth in a foreign land, but the comrades are giving birth in their homes,” the emotional Chipoyera charged.
Mugabe Hits 2018 Election Campaign
Despite growing calls for him to step down in the wake of an unprecedented economic crisis characterised by cash shortages and his now visible frailties, President Robert Mugabe told his backers last week that he will soon launch his campaign for the 2018 presidential elections anytime from now.
Addressing the Zanu PF central committee meeting last week, Mugabe challenged the party members to warm-up for the 2018 election saying the current problems which include the cash crisis are “temporary”.
“…as we drift closer and closer to elections, we must take full stock of our structures ensuring that our people stay ready and mobilised.
“Above all, the party must be in the lead in addressing the needs of our people. The youth recently made known their expectations, the war veterans whose families must be supported.
“Cash shortages are being faced across the board by our people who cannot easily access their savings or earnings. You might have deposited money in the bank, you have savings in the bank, but there is no money. But this is a temporary problem which should be behind us soon, sooner rather than later,” the frail looking Mugabe said.
Many of Mugabe’s former party cadres have in the past described him as a man obsessed with power, adding that he is creating his own dynasty.
Being the only leader that Zimbabwe has known for the past 36 years, Mugabe is even bracing to contest the 2018 elections at 94 years old, despite having been accused of running down the economy, through policy inconsistency and the controversial land reform programme, which observers said was meant to prolong his hold on power.
However, during the central committee meeting, Mugabe promised that he will soon visit all the country’s provinces to make sure that the party is ready for the 2018 elections.
“Now we, at the headquarters, would want to see that achievement of so many people registered, so many people with membership cards also making their subscriptions.
“So, VaMphoko (Vice President Phelekezela) vanenge vakagaririra kuno. You can’t say you have a hundred thousand members when you registered two each one having a membership card.
“Where is the proof of subscription? So, we will have to have an auditing system. So, when I visit the provinces as I said I shall, that is also one aspect I will look at. At the province we should be sufficiently computerised.”
Mugabe dismissed the opposition parties grand coalition saying it will be just a grouping of failures.
“So, let us have parties which are genuinely in existence and not just mere assumptions. Let us not be put into sixes and sevens by the opposition which is writing nonsense all the time of my wife or People First.
“The likes of (People’s Democratic Party president Tendai ) Biti are claiming coalitions which are coalitions still in the air and never concretised…, but it doesn’t matter — all can come together, all of them bundled together.
“Zanu PF is saying group, in a matter in which we desire, we give you just one of these (showing clenched fist).
“I hope we are building that one huge fist which will settle firmly once again all the little party organisations. I hope our preparations will be a success today.”
For the past 36 years, Mugabe has been blamed for putting more energy into consolidating his grip on political power, leaving the economy burning.
He has been accused of being selfish at the expense of the general populace.
Despite a visibly-waning popularity, Mugabe maintains he is still loved by the people and that he will govern until “God says come”.
And if there is anything that he has managed to achieve since he took over power; it is to instil fear in citizens and the use of violence to cow and crush every pocket of resistance, opponents contend.
Amid these governing principles, Mugabe has been accused of stomping on people’s constitutional rights. However, as the growing injustices continue taking toll on the hapless citizens who have seen it all over the past years, they are now taking to the streets to register their disgruntlement.
Only recently, church leaders took to the streets to demonstrate against government’s national pledge, which compels children to salute the national flag and recite a pledge of patriotism.
The church leaders argued that the pledge is against their Christian beliefs and must be dropped immediately.
On the other hand, the National Railways of Zimbabwe workers, who have been going for months without salaries, have been demonstrating.
Many are resorting to social media to campaign against Mugabe and his government over its failures to bring meaningful change to people’s lives. daily news
ZBC Workers Trapped in Boob | AFCON PHONY STORY
Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation workers were yesterday caught trapped in an AFCON phony story boob.
The government loud-horn was found misinforming the nation on the outcome of a Zimbabwe national soccer team result.
In its 7pm news bulletin Sunday night the national broadcaster reported to the nation that the Zimbabwe national under 23 soccer team had defeated Cameroon by a goal to nil in a Junior Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The correct result emerged hours later as ZimEye.com reveals that Zimbabwe actually lost to Cameroon by three goals to nil.
In the report, the broadcaster claimed that the Young Warriors had qualified for the next stage of the Junior African Nations Championship after playing to a goal-less draw with Cameroon in the reverse fixture in Harare two weeks ago.
A business man who would not be named at this stage and runs a soccer betting business in Bulawayo expressed anger at the national broadcaster’s negligent reporting which has made him suffer losses.
“You can imagine that we rely on them for these results for us to make pay-outs. We have since made payouts based on wrong results and it’s affecting our whole system,” he said.
The man said he is now consulting with lawyers on what to do next as clients a are now reportedly reporting at the shop to claim their wins for accurately predicting the result.
Betting odds were completely against the Zimbabwean team beating the young Indomitable Lions of Cameroon going into the match which meant that a win for Zimbabwe fetched the panthers very highly.
Online newspapers who also rely on the national broadcaster for such news also fell victims of the bungling immediately reporting the wrong result.
Social media was also not spared the embarrassing moment as several people went out celebrating and congratulating the national team albeit for a non existent victory.
“This ZANU Dead Broadcaster is hopeless and must be shut down,” wrote a soccer fan on a WhatsApp group. “They are used to reporting lies about Mugabe and rigging election figures to extents that they now want to rig soccer results,” they added.
The broadcaster has still not given an apology on the mix up nor explained how they came up with the result.
Contacted for comment a receptionist at ZBC’s Pockets Hill studio in Harare refused to put ZimEye.com through to the news editors.
Dzamara, Mliswa Activist Found Dead in Suspected CIO Murder
An Itai Dzamara political activist was found dead on Saturday after falling from the 7th floor of Harare’s Jameson Hotel.
Roy Issah, who was also a YARD(Youth Advocacy for Reform and Democracy) member, was pronounced dead at Jameson Hotel (a known Central Intelligence Organisation, CIO common dining place) on Saturday night.
He was part of the Dzamara group which is protesting against President Mugabe’s misrule at the Africa Unity Square.
His death was confirmed by Temba Mliswa’s YARD who wrote a brief obituary on him.
In addition, a message by the Occupy Africa Unity Square group said, “Roy Issah was one of us. A sharp young Zimbabwean, animated by a brightly burning inner fire. He joined the Occupation and selflessly contributed what he could, all for a better Zimbabwe for all of us.
“On the night of Saturday, 11th June, Roy fell from a room on the 7th floor of Jameson Hotel in Harare CBD.
“It is yet unclear as to how it happened and police are still investigating,” said the OAUS in the statement.
Meanwhile Temba Mliswa’s YARD released the below statement saying,
“It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge receipt of the untimely death of one of our very own, cde Roy Issah of Mashonaland East, Commander of Goromonzi North District. Cde Roy passed on yesterday after he had come to Harare from Arcturus where he stays. It was his vision for a better Zimbabwe, which saw his journey to Harare, a he was joining other young leaders, who are currently occupying the Africa Unity Square, in peaceful protest against the brutal, carefree and careless government of the day.
Cde Roy was a dedicated YARDer, who laboured daily for a better Zimbabwe. Having witnessed first hand the violence of 2008, our beloved Roy had become an epitome of tolerance and a servant of society building within his district. When I first saw cde Roy, we had a meeting for the YARD Goromonzi district, and he offered us a place at his father’s homestead. He understood the need for a new youth movement which was all encompassing, and he needed the same message to be passed on to the many youths of the Arcturus area, who had been involved in a divisive and protracted political struggle, which usually got violent. Cde Roy opened his doors to all available youths, some holding senior positions in a variety of political parties, and demanded that we discuss nation building and social healing without our political jackets.
It is when you hear such progressive rhetoric, and see such levels of commitment that you identify the leader that was being nurtured in young Roy.
Today, that young leader is no longer with us. Roy Issah is no more. Within YARD, we remain a family and we have suspended all YARD activities until the Commander is buried. After the burial, we should intensify the work that has to be done to realise the dream that Commander Roy Issah had for Zimbabwe. The best way to honour the life and work of Commander Roy, the only way, is to toil as youths, to toil as YARD for the realisation of his vision of youth empowerment, social equilibrium, unity of purpose, and democratisation of Zimbabwe.
Rest in peace commander
Rest in peace brother,
Rest in peace

War Vets: We Will Respond to Mugabe’s Dissident Comments
WAR veterans have vowed to go down fighting, saying they were coalescing to come up with a “strategic response” to President Robert Mugabe’s public tongue lashing last Thursday, NewsDay has learnt.
Mugabe threatened to “crush” them for seeking to influence the ruling Zanu PF party’s succession matrix.
Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) spokesperson Douglas Mahiya told NewsDay yesterday that by Wednesday, the ex-freedom fighters would have come up with an appropriate response to Mugabe’s utterances where he labelled them dissidents.
“I am the spokesperson of the association and I speak what we would have agreed as an association and since our patron said something regarding our association, we are yet to meet and discuss,” he said.
“We are currently consulting each other and by Wednesday, we would have met and deliberated on the matters arising and have a response to the issues at hand.”
This came amid reports that the former freedom fighters were plotting to defy the ZNLWVA patron and continue their campaign for Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa to take over the reins of power after Mugabe.
Mugabe last week took the war veterans’ leadership to the ropes during his address to the Zanu PF central committee and national consultative assembly on Thursday and Friday respectively, accusing them of behaving like dissidents.
The Zanu PF leader threatened to crush defiant war veterans the same way he handled the dissidents’ menace in Midlands and Matabeleland provinces in the 1980s during the infamous Gukururahundi massacres, where a government-sanctioned North Korea-trained 5 Brigade military unit reportedly killed over 20 000 civilians.
The fallout between Mugabe and the ZNLWVA leadership reached a crescendo two weeks ago after war veterans’ chairperson and former minister Chris Mutsvangwa reportedly declared Mnangagwa as the Zanu PF leader’s sole successor.
According to leaked minutes of the alleged meeting held in Gweru, Mutsvangwa was said to have threatened bloodshed should Mnangagwa’s bid to succeed Mugabe fail.
Part of the alleged meeting’s minutes read: “If anyone goes against VP (Mnangagwa), it is against the revolutionary cadres. He (Mutsvangwa) said if anyone derails the aim of succession, he or she will cause blood-shedding in the country (sic).”
But Mutsvangwa has distanced himself from the document, claiming it was concocted by Mnangagwa’s arch-rivals the G40 in order to portray the Vice-President as a power-hungry person.
The G40, which is frantically fighting to torpedo Mnangagwa’s bid to succeed 92-year-old Mugabe, is reportedly fronted by First Lady Grace Mugabe .
The former freedom fighters have accused Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, reportedly a key G40 ally, of misrepresenting the alleged minutes to Mugabe as evidence of the alleged plot to prop up Mnangagwa.
The war veterans vowed to fight Mphoko for seeking to draw a wedge between themselves and Mugabe.
“It’s a war now and we will show G40 who we are . . . they can’t lie and get away with it easily. We know the intentions by Mphoko and his crooked friends, to create a war between war veterans and the President. That will not happen,” a war veteran, who declined to be named, said.
Yesterday, opposition parties attacked Mugabe for threatening to unleash “Gukurahundi” on the defiant war veterans.
“Such statements show how callous Mugabe is and how unrepentant he is about the Gukurahundi massacres, where he made a fake excuse feigning to regret and saying that it was a moment of madness,” MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said.
He said such statements must not be taken lightly as they were threats of genocide, adding the African Union, Sadc and the International Criminal Court should keep their eyes open to avert such crisis.
MDC spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said Mugabe’s utterances were shocking.
“At his old age, we expect him to be asking for forgiveness and exercising restraint and wisdom in his words and deeds, but he is giving the people of Zimbabwe the exact opposite. It is unfortunate that this sickening tirade from Mugabe has just taken away efforts and what little progress there was towards peace and reconciliation in the country a thousand steps backwards,” he said.
Heal Zimbabwe Trust said: “Such utterances have the potential of eroding the gains of the Unity Accord and inciting warring factions from within his party to resort to violence.”
Mugabe, Cronies Seize 9million Hectares of Farm Lands
President Robert Mugabe and his cronies have seized over 9million hectares of commercial farm land since the year 2000, an official government land audit says.
The report revealed in parliament last week, shows that none of the so called poor blacks originally meant for land reform have benefited from Mugabe’s often violent land grab exercise which has paralyzed Zimbabwe’s economy for the long period equivalent to the Zimbabwe Chimurenga war’s entire 16 year duration (1963 to 1979).
To add to the embarrassment, under former Prime Minister Ian Smith’s government, 75% of fertile land was owned by the rich upper-class, but 36 years after independence that statistic has to the contrary shot up to 98%.
The long awaited land audit commenced early this month after pressure from opposition MPs. It was availed by Lands and Rural Resettlement deputy minister Berita Chikwama after being pressured by MDC-T Senator Michael Carter to reveal details on the size of land occupied by A1, A2 farmers.
Replied Chikwana, “As of now, the following statistics are relevant to the question at hand. Hectrage under A1: 5 979 million; hectrage under A2: 3 498 million.
“There are no title deed holders on land previously owned by commercial farmers as this land is allocated on the basis of offer letters which graduate into 99 year leases and permits.”
She said the country is sitting on 15 million hectares of commercial land of which the rest is still in the hands of white commercial farmers untouched by Mugabe’s program.
“We were holding 15 million hectares but as we go, you will find that the statistic that I gave you is only 9.4 million hectares,” she said.
She added, “there are also some white farmers who are still occupying some of the land and if we add it to that with some pieces of land, we are going to come up with 15 million hectares.”
She said the land audit is still to be finalised. Her boss Douglas Mombeshora at the end of May this year announced a 9-member commission chaired by Commissioner Tendai Bare. The land audit is now to address cases of multiple land ownership, land disputes and investigate reports that some resettled farmers are leasing out farms to white commercial farmers among other issues.
Announcing the commission two weeks ago, Mombeshora said the constitution makes provision for the creation of a land commission, whose mandate is to ensure accountability, fairness and transparency in the administration of agricultural land vested in the state.
The commission is also expected to bring sanity to the confusion surrounding the allocation of offer letters, which has led to clashes with two or more beneficiaries claiming title to the same pieces of land.
“Treasury is expected to avail funding to ensure that the programme is a success,” said Mombeshora.
Commissioner Bare is deputised by Mr Tadious Muzoroza.
Other members of the commission include Retired Major Abdul Nyati, Ms Janet Manjengwa, Ms Judith Buzuzi, Mr Emmanuel Nyamusa, Ms Margaret Chinamhora, Mr Edmore Ndudzo and Mr Luke Buka.
Observers have noted that the setting up of a land commission is important for the successful implementation of the ZANU PF’s economic blueprint ZIM ASSET program.
ZRP Underwear On Display
ZRP cops have caused an uproar after displaying on paper what has been termed as shocking ignorance.
A mistake by a male cop as they wrote the embarrassing “underwear” word in place of “underway,” has sparked a social media frenzy.
The inspector wrote on a police report that investigations are underway, but used the word “underwear.”
Thousands took to social networks Facebook and WhatsApp to mock the force. “Many police officers do not have O’Level English”, wrote blogger Denford Dura.

Mujuru Holds First Public Rally in Bulawayo
Zimbabwe People First leader, Joice Mujuru will next weekend officially begin her meet the people tour with a rally in Bulawayo, ZimEye is can reveal.
The Bulawayo rally scheduled for Stanley Square Stadium in Makokoba will be the first of the scheduled ten rallies in weeks that will see her going through all the provinces in the country.
Sources within the party indicated that Mujuru will visit all provincial capitals on a weekly basis starting next weekend in Bulawayo before the party holds its official launch rally in Harare immediately after all the provinces have been visited.
Mujuru’s rallies come at a time when several of her members have been accusing her of being too silent and taking too long to launch her party. The sources say that Mujuru chose Bulawayo as her first point of call because of the huge membership she has attracted from the Matabeleland Regions.
The party’s Secretary General Dzikamai Mavhaire confirmed that Mujuru will be launching her provincial rallies next weekend though choosing not state where the first rally will be held. ZimEye.com however managed to establish that the party has indeed booked Stanley Square Stadium for a public gathering to be held on the 18th of June.
“Mujuru and Mutasa bed mates.”
Zimbabwe People First Party has sought to downplay reports that founding leaders Joice Mujuru and Didymus Mutasa, have been engaged in a nasty internal war of attrition against each other.
Instead claiming that the two have no qualms between each other and actually enjoy a good relationship.
The media shy Mujuru has been accused by party insiders of lacking decisiveness and other leadership attributes to keep the new party together.
The response was made Mujuru’s personal information person Kudakwashe Bhasikiti through a note to party members copied to media on Sunday evening.
In the note, Bhasikiti warns party members against believing and spreading falsehoods that the two leaders are not seeing eye to eye in the run up to the official launch of the new party set for end of July.
“I have noted with great concern the great desire to divide the founding leaders of our precious revolution. May I take this opportunity to advise you any attempt to separate The President Dr Joice Mujuru from her closest Advisors (Didymus) Mutasa and (Rugare) Gumbo will not succeed,” wrote Bhasikiti.
The temperamental former ZANU PF legislator warned party members who are bent on causing divisions in the party to leave the factional fights in the parties they were previously in.
“Anyone who can claim any position whether appointed or self appointment should refrain from going to public media to pretend to love our leader better than others. All these archaic tactics should be buried in your former political parties,” he said.
Bhasikiti further dispelled the media speculation
that the two leaders are involved in heavy factional fights.
“In ZPFP get it from me we want real Unity not imagined,” he said. “May I also assure you from where I stand there is excellent relations among the three Dr Mujuru, Mutasa and Gumbo.”
Party members and media have in recent weeks been echoing sentiments that the two leaders are not working well together as they clash on how to run the party.
According to party sources Mutasa is accusing Mujuru of giving former opposition party members too much influence in the party which he believes should actually be promoting former ZANU PF members.
Major Cash Dealers Not Banking – RBZ
Following the cash shortage in the country, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has started an operation to assess banking systems by high cash generators such as wholesalers, retailers, mobile phone companies and fuel dealers after it was revealed that cash deposits fell by a staggering 40 percent on average last month.
The operation is part of a cocktail of measures to alleviate the current cash shortages.
The operation was revealed by Finance and Economic Development Minister Mr Patrick Chinamasa in his report on the implementation of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset) to the Zanu-PF National Consultative Assembly last Friday.
The operation by the RBZ is covered under Section 11 of the Bank Use Promotion Act.
The Act reads: “Every trader and parastatal shall, unless it has good cause for not doing so, deposit in an account with a financial institution, no later than the close of normal business hours on the day following that on which the cash is received or on the next banking day, cash that is surplus to the requirement of the trader.”
The RBZ operation started early this month.
“The RBZ’s Financial Intelligence Unit invoked Section 6 of the Bank Use Promotion Act (Chapter 24:24), and has launched an operation targeted on assessing banking trends by high cash generators that include wholesalers, retailers, mobile phone companies, and fuel dealers. The first phase of this operation started on Friday the 3rd of June 2016,” said Chinamasa.
The RBZ has also been closely monitoring cash deposit patterns.
“RBZ had been monitoring cash deposit trends within various banks, where it was generally noted that cash deposits had declined by an average of 40 percent during the month of May 2016,” said Mr Chinamasa.
He indicated there had been reports of illicit cash deals on the market.
“There are reports which alleged that some players were selling cash, engaged in illicit deals, and were not depositing cash as required in terms of Section 11 of the Bank Use Promotion Act,” said Mr Chinamasa.
He highlighted other interventions Government was implementing to address the liquidity challenges.
These include foreign exchange stabilisation and export incentive measures, promoting the use of banks and domestic resource mobilisation.
On foreign exchange stabilisation and export incentive measures, Mr Chinamasa said there had been a significant rise in the use of plastic money by the public.
The number of point of sales machines had increased sharply from 4 258 in 2012 to 17 448 as of April 2016, he said.
The increase in POS machines partly follows a directive by Treasury via circular No 7 on May 30, 2016, instructing Ministries, Government departments, local authorities and parastatals to introduce POS machines.
Chinamasa said consultations on reducing charges and fees for use of POS machines, Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and mobile banking platforms were underway.
There have been concerns over high bank charges since dollarisation in 2009 and the public outcry grew louder with the current cash shortages as more Zimbabweans turned to plastic money.
The average charge on RTGS transaction is $10 while withdrawal fees are on average $3 in banking halls and $2 – $2.50 for withdrawals through on ATMs.
ZIPIT/POS fees are as high as $10 for a $500 transaction.
This is over and above accounts maintenance fees of about $12 per month.
President Mugabe last week called for urgent review of bank charges.
“The domestic resource mobilisation entails harnessing financial resources from the local sources through initiatives such as taxes, savings, and plugging leakages throughout the economy, among others,” said Chinamasa.
He said Government was aware of challenges facing the country’s taxation system like corruption, inefficiencies, illicit financial flows and a declining tax base due to de-industrialisation and growing informal sector activities as well as relatively high effective tax rates.
Mr Chinamasa said Treasury had since given the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority board the mandate to increase the tax base, automate the tax collection system and to combat corruption.
The report by Mr Chinamasa touches on various other economic essentials expected to address the current economic malaise. – state media
Minister Fails To Pay $1.5 Million Debt, Loses Property
Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister Fred Moyo lost his property as the High court sheriff visited his Borrowdale home and attached property worth thousands of dollars after he and fellow directors of a mining firm failed to settle a $1,5 million debt.
Moyo and fellow directors stood surety to Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Limited for a $765 000 loan, now repayable with interest and other charges almost matching the principal.
The money was advanced as a loan to Ox Mining Private Limited, a company in which Deputy Minister Moyo was a director.
It is reported that Deputy Minister Moyo bound himself as surety together with three other top-ranking OX Mining officials.
When Ox Mining failed to pay the debt, Stanbic sued the firm and its directors.
Last Friday the Office of the Sheriff of the High Court indicated interest stood at $691 239 while the commission was $72 861.30.
Other smaller charges were factored in, giving a total of $1 457 225, 30.
On Friday, the Sheriff of the High Court went to the deputy minister’s house on Quinnington Road, and attached almost all moveable property in sight, including a Ford Ranger T6 and a Nissan Hardbody.
All household property including six fridges, two sets of sofas, stoves, kitchen unit, computers, tables, microwaves, dressing tables, were attached.
The Sheriff also attached 15 school desks at the house, window and door frames, a Kipor electric generator, two water tanks, among other items.
The property was attached in the presence of the deputy minister’s wife Mrs Moyo, who watched helplessly as the Sheriff executed his duties.
The property attached was valued at less than a quarter of the debt and the Sheriff is expected to attach more property to satisfy the court judgment.- State Media
Too Late For Zimbabwe To Adopt Rand
Tendai Biti, is reflecting on what happened during his term as Minister of Finance with some disappointment. In 2010, during the inclusive government era, Biti suggested Zimbabwe join the Rand Monetary Union (RMU) as a way of adopting the South Africa Rand instead of using a basket of multiple currencies, including the US dollar.
The US dollar became the dominant currency on the Zimbabwean market but its elusiveness has nearly brought President Robert Mugabe’s government to its knees, prompting it to use unpopular means such as introducing bond notes, in a desperate attempt to arrest the cash crisis.
Biti this week told the Daily News on Sunday that it is too late to join the RMU or adopting the South African Rand.
“There are some who are now calling that we should join the Rand Monetary Union.
“In 2010, I moved that Zimbabwe should join the Rand Monetary Union and I was heavily opposed, ironically, by the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (Baz) among other groups but now I think it’s too late,” Biti told the Daily News on Sunday, exclusively.
“Now it’s no longer a solution because of the volatility of the South African Rand and also the disequilibrium of our own economy.
“The current cash squeeze which has seen long queues forming at local banks on the back of pronouncements of introducing the bond notes, has led to suggestions that Mugabe’s administration must adopt the Rand as its major currency.
Baz, a professional and lobby group representing local bankers, has also waded into the Rand use debate.
Last week, its chairperson Charity Jinya told Parliament that government should explore the use of the Rand.
Jinya heads MBCA Bank, a subsidiary of Nedbak South Africa.
But Biti said Zimbabwe’s problems are too many to be exported into the RMU.
“The members of the RMU will not accept us because our economy has deteriorated so much” it would be like “the importation of Zimbabwe’s structural problems into the RMU.
“And so they won’t accept unless we attend to certain structural problems.
“The underlying structure of the Zimbabwe economy is wrong, so whatever currency you use and change, it will be delegitimised by the structure of this economy and that’s why you need reform.
“It’s like a crook with a scar on his face it doesn’t matter what make-up you use, the scar remains the same.
“So deal with the fundamental problem of that structure. That is a problem we have it’s no longer a currency issue but a structural issue.
“So let’s reduce the cost structure and make it more competitive. So what needs devaluation is not the US dollar; what needs devaluation is the cost structure of Zimbabwe which is fundamentally skewed.”
Biti’s successor Patrick Chinamasa has ruled out adopting the Rand while Mugabe has put the speculation on whether the bond notes are coming or not to bed by declaring there will be in circulation in October.
Most Zimbabweans, victims of Mugabe’s toxic and disastrous policies, have received with trepidation the announcement of bond notes introduction.
Although central bank governor John Mangudya has ruled out the immediate return of the Zimbabwe dollar, insisting conditions are not yet ripe for its re-introduction, there is palpable fear that Mugabe’s government will take back the country to the days of hyperinflation in 2008.

‘Rapist’ Leaves Semen on Granny(60)’s Thighs
Terrence Mawawa, Chiredzi|A Chiredzi man ejaculated on the thighs of a 60 year old woman as he attempted to forcibly have sex with the elderly lady.
Polite Makajani of Lisenga Village under Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi, appeared before Magistrate Tafadzwa Mhlanga on Saturday, facing attempted rape charges.
The incident happened last Thursday when the complainant had gone to the field to look for okra since she wanted to prepare a meal.
Makajani trailed her as she went to the field and grabbed her by the neck and pulled her to the ground.
He removed her pants and tried to rape her but the woman resisted and overpowered him.
Makajani who was already expecting to have sex with the woman ejaculated on her thighs and fled from the scene. He was later apprehended after a police report had been made.
Makajani denies attempting to rape the woman, has admitted emptying his discharge on her.
Makajani was remanded in custody to June 20 when trial is expected to resume.
Speaking to ZimEye.com yesterday, local villagers said Makajani’s reckless behaviour stunned the whole community. “We did not expect such behaviour from the young man. We were shocked by his reckless behaviour. After all the woman she attempted to rape is just like his own grandmother.
We did not expect him to behave in such a deplorable manner,” said a local villager who declined to be named.
CHIHURI CHURCH CLIMBDOWN: Charamba prawls to Beat Journalist Up
Jolted by the weekend expose that police officers are being forced to attend daily church services pastored by Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri himself, the police boss has been forced to climb down on his directive.
The story which broke out through ZimEye.com for the first time two weeks ago, had heads rolling in the force such that police spokesperson Charity Charamba was Monday baying for the blood of ZimEye’s Simba Chikanza.
Charamba who rang Chikanza after apparently having not fully read the whole article at first, accused him of not publishing her full interview with him over the weekend.
Wrote Chikanza on his Facebook wall, “Just received a call from ZRP spokesman Charamba, fuming at me over the Chihuri church story claiming I wrote falsehoods. She wanted to beat me up, literally(I am not joking, she even said it). She says “Why did you write that article without placing my comment in the article?”
However, after much deliberation Charamba explained that the so called ‘church services’ were just normal fellowship held in the police chapel and were voluntary not compulsory. She then revealed she was angry to the point of intending to beat the journo up.
She said they were mere chaplaincy meetings ordinarily been conducted years before.
However, recent communication leaked to ZimEye.com on the Sunday evening by insiders within the force, indicates that after the story broke, Chihuri rushed to instruct Senior assistant commissioner Stephen Mutamba to stop forcing people to attend.
Said the source, “Today he(Chihuri) told Senior assistant commissioner Stephen Mutamba not to force people to attend. He told him during Sunday’s service that ended at 1300 hours,” revealed our source. – ALSO READ – Chihuri Starts A Church.

Prophet Uses Manhood to Drive Out Demons from Women’s Private Parts
The preacher from an Apostolic sect in Kwekwe, on charges of raping and impregnating two congregants claiming that he was Jesus, has been acquitted after the State failed to prove that the sex act was not consensual.
Lawrence Gwaza of Kwekwe had pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned before Gweru regional magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire facing three counts of rape, Sunday News reports.
He was acquitted after it was established that the sex was consensual and that the complainants did not make a formal report at the police station but Gwaza was arrested at the instigation of a Superintendent Muza from Zvishavane who heard one of the victims testifying in church. It was argued that the complainants did not intend to report the matter to the police.
Mr Nemadire found Gwaza not guilty. While testifying in court, one of the victims (name withheld) alleged that she was failing to conceive for 10 years in her marriage, only to be impregnated by the pastor who is known at the church as Jesus.
“Your Worship, I didn’t force them to have sexual intercourse with me, but I proposed to each of them and they both agreed to have sexual intercourse with me. On the issues of pregnancy l don’t think I’m the father,” said Gwaza in his defence. One of the women said she was impregnated twice while the other was impregnated once.
One of them, a 37-year-old teacher, took to the witness stand. She said out of respect for her pastor and “the scriptures,” she gave herself to Gwaza on several occasions between August 2002 and July 2003. The woman said Gwaza visited her village under Chief Negove where she resided before she was converted to his church.
“At first Gwaza invited me to an evening prayer together with three other congregants and told me that I was being used by the devil so he wanted to remove the spirit that was in me. He told me that he was going to use his manhood to drain the evil spirit which was in me and he took advantage that I had faith in him as my pastor and he forced me to have sexual intercourse with him,” she said.
The second witness said she was raped while at Gwaza’s residence in Zvishavane in 2008. The witness, who was failing to conceive, was allegedly converted to the accused’s church seeking spiritual healing. “I was in a marriage for more than 10 years but failing to conceive and the pastor told me that he was going to help me to have a baby. He invited me to his house to pray for a pregnancy, and I had sexual intercourse with him several times until I got pregnant,” she said.
Prosecuting, Mr Andrew Marimo, said sometime in 2001, Gwaza went to Mberengwa for his pastoral work and the first complainant was converted to his church. The court heard that between August 2002 and July 2003, Gwaza had sex with her without her consent on many occasions. It is the State’s case that, as a result of the alleged rape, the complainant gave birth to a baby girl.
“On the second count, during the year 2008, the accused called the complainant into his bedroom and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent and she gave birth to a baby girl again,” said Mr Marimo. The prosecutor said in November 2002, Gwaza hoodwinked another congregant and raped her. She gave birth to a baby boy.
The matter came to light when the complainant joined another church and testified during a church service what happened to her.
“Minister Dokora Dead” Soon Pastor Warns | VIDEO
Education Minister, Lazarus Dokora will be a dead man if he continues in his acts of abolishing the Bible in Zimbabwe’s schools, a pastor says. The Harare based preacher in the below video, says anyone “who messes with the faith of believers” is in trouble. “Now you are talking about removing Scripture Union in schools, because you are making agreements with people who do not want the Bible, nonsense. I stand on this altar as an Apostle, whosoever shall tamper with the faith of the people shall die in a terrible way,” the man of the cloth says. VIDEO:
Mnangagwa Pleads with Mugabe, “Please Forgive Me!”
Sensing danger, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa (pictured) was apparently forced to beg for his political life in the warring Zanu PF on Thursday, disowning restless war veterans and other senior ruling party officials in the process who have been agitating for him to succeed President Robert Mugabe.
Consistently reliable Zanu PF sources told the Daily News yesterday that the embattled VP had allegedly taken the humiliating decision of begging Mugabe for mercy publicly, saying he had nothing to do with the dissenting former freedom fighters and the campaigns of other senior party officials who are operating in his name, after the angry nonagenarian threatened to deal severely with all of his offending followers.
Analysts said yesterday that if the claims were true, this would be the second time in the last 12 years that Mnangagwa has left his most vocal supporters within the brawling ruling party hanging high and dry, without political cover and like lambs to the proverbial slaughter.
Zanu PF is currently split along two main factions, one loyal to Mnangagwa and going by the moniker Team Lacoste, and another one that is fiercely opposed to him succeeding Mugabe and going by the name Generation 40 (G40).
Shooting from the hip, Mugabe reminded war veterans loyal to Mnangagwa on Thursday that he would deal ruthlessly with any dissenting voices within Zanu PF, likening their behaviour to those of dissidents, and in the process invoking ugly memories of the Gukurahundi massacres of the early 1980s.
A well-placed source who attended the closed door meeting where Mnangagwa allegedly begged for mercy from Mugabe after the nonagenarian undressing war veterans was adamant that Mnangagwa had “pleaded for forgiveness from Gushungo”.
“He read the signs well and rightly felt obliged to beg for mercy. As you all saw, the president was very angry and made it clear that the war veterans were being sent by someone to cause pandemonium within the party,” the Zanu PF bigwig said.
According to another source, Mnangagwa — who enjoys the support of war veterans’ leaders such as Christopher Mutsvangwa, Victor Matemadanda and Douglas Mahiya — allegedly told Mugabe that people were “abusing” his name.
“He apologised indeed and duly disowned the war veterans,” the second source said.
It was not clear yesterday what the way forward would be for the usually-boisterous war veterans, who want to be seen as “country stockholders”. None of them would comment on all the developments of the past two days.
An angry Mugabe launched one of his fiercest attacks on his own party members to date on Thursday, threatening to deal severely with disaffected war veterans who are pushing for Mnangagwa to succeed him.
Addressing a Zanu PF central committee meeting in Harare, Mugabe shocked party members when he described recent pronouncements on the matter by the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) as tantamount to a rebellion.
“The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association was formed to cater for the welfare of our veterans and not to champion the struggle for political change, not to be the boss of the party and never to be the bully of the party, nor the entity to make the choices of who should be and who should not, never ever!
“Expect that within the party, always within the party and not outside the party. The dissidents tried it, they were war veterans, and you know what happened. Lots of trouble, lots of fighting, lots of suffering of course to our people, and these dissents activities cannot be allowed.
“Do we see another rise of dissident activity? The leadership with our experience says no to the war veterans association. It’s not your function, it’s not your business to talk a lot on who shall succeed the president.
“Dissident activities cannot be allowed. It ended in December 1987 when Joshua Nkomo and I put our hands together and our hearts together to say never again shall we allow this to happen,” the visibly agitated Mugabe said.
The president’s reference to the dark era of the early 1980s when the government unleashed the North Korean-trained 5th Brigade that massacred an estimated 20 000 innocent civilians mainly in Matabeleland and the Midlands dropped jaws and sent a chill down the spines of most of the gathered Zanu PF bigwigs.
Mugabe was insistent that it was not the responsibility of the ZNLWVA to anoint his successor, but that of Zanu PF.
“I am stunned on what they do. You want to spill the blood again? We say to them that could not be allowed and steps are going to be taken (against them).
“It is not proper for any man to use the war veterans association as a platform to attack party top leadership, or seeking to direct party processes in the same direction preferred by some individuals in that same body.
“The mandate of the association does not allow directing party directions. It’s not your function. Yours is to improve the welfare of the war veterans,” Mugabe fumed.
He said the Zanu PF constitution was clear about the issue of succession and that “it remains the bible of all of us. We must respect the rules drawn by the party and organs of the party must be respected”.
Mugabe’s diatribe came after the Mutsvangwa-led war veterans had increasingly appeared to challenge the nonagenarian’s authority and those of his key lieutenants.
Only last week, the former freedom fighters responded with interest to a savage assault on them by Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko who had accused them of engaging in “treason” by endorsing Mnangagwa as Mugabe’s shoo-in successor.
In his polemic, delivered while addressing a Zanu PF Matabeleland North provincial committee meeting in Lupane, Mphoko warned the pro-Mnangagwa war veterans against talking about Mugabe’s succession while the increasingly frail nonagenarian was still on the throne.
Responding to the attack, the secretary-general of the main faction of the ZNLWVA, Victor Matemadanda, roundly savaged Mphoko, once again accusing the under-fire VP of having deserted Zimbabwe’s war of liberation.
“What do you think is more treasonous between saying Mnangagwa is the most senior person in the Zanla (Zanu PF military wing) ranks and deserting the war, going to Mozambique and selling guns meant for waging the liberation struggle?
“What is the bigger crime between saying Mnangagwa is senior and staying in a hotel for two years, refusing to stay in a $3 million house in a country where the economy is struggling?” Matemadanda asked angrily, referring to Mphoko’s continued and controversial stay in a five-star Harare hotel.
To highlight their resolve to fight Mphoko to the bitter end in Zanu PF’s worsening factional and succession wars, he added ominously that war veterans were “ready to defend themselves” in court if it came to that.
“We will not be intimidated by his misuse of the word treason. We never said Mnangagwa should take over today or tomorrow. We are simply investing in our future as Zanla and Mphoko must not interfere because we never interfere in Zipra (Zapu military wing) issues.
“He is annoyed by our discourse because he is the face of G40 and he thinks either Jonathan Moyo or (Saviour) Kasukuwere should be president. But that will never happen, unfortunately. That will not be decided by one who deserted the war.
“What is so special about him and his Mozambican wife? He must just quietly enjoy the good life that he was given by our president which he does not deserve anyway.
“He is least qualified to talk about our revolution because he was not part of its critical stages after he deserted,” Matemadanda said, adding that the only reason why they had a semblance of respect for Mphoko was because he was appointed by “our president”.
Jumping into the melee feet first, no-nonsense ZNLWVA spokesperson Douglas Mahiya told the Daily News that Mphoko “has no knowledge of the issues he is commenting on”.
“We have not endorsed anybody. We were simply discussing the arrangement we had during the war of liberation. We were in Zanla and he (Mphoko) was in Zipra. How does he know events that took place in Zanla?
“In our Zanla camp, we knew Mugabe was our number one candidate followed by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Is he (Mphoko) refuting that arrangement when he was not part of our Zanla group?
“In any event, are we not allowed to discuss and speak about our history? What kind of a country is it where you are not allowed to discuss your history?” Mahiya asked, dismissing Mphoko’s treason claim as “a fruitless plot by the G40” camp. Daily News
Speed Up “Mujuru Appeals” Says Mugabe
The National Disciplinary Appeals Committee has been tasked by Zanu PF Politburo to speed up processing the appeals filed by former Zanu PF members expelled or suspended from the ruling party, the so called “Mujuru rebels,” for various reasons.
Mugabe last Friday told the National Consultative Assembly that Zanu-PF would not tolerate unprocedural votes of no confidence on members.
Officials who attended last week’s Politburo and Central Committee meetings told The Sunday Mail that unfair disciplinary action had been discussed at length, with calls for fair treatment of cadres improperly punished.
Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko heads the NDAC.
Zanu-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs Mr Patrick Chinamasa told The Sunday Mail that, “The Politburo spoke at length about the need to handle the disciplinary issues. The meeting emphasised the need to follow proper procedures and also speed up the process to ensure that disciplinary issues are handled within a specified time frame.”
Sources said the NDAC was told to craft guidelines on circumstances under which appeals could be lodged.
“They were also directed to put in place procedures which have to be followed by those making appeals … So the idea is that not everyone has a right to appeal, but you have to meet certain conditions to qualify to appeal and there should also be a time frame within which to appeal.”
According to NDAC’s terms of reference as availed to The Sunday Mail, the appeals committee is expected to:
Adjudicate applications brought before it in terms of the party constitution;
Hear cases that have been heard and determined by the National Disciplinary Committee but whose verdict is disputed;
Adjudicate appeals and review applications in matters determined by the NDC;
Review any NDC decision to ensure procedural fairness has been afforded to the accused, appellant or applicant for review;
Refer matters back to the NDC if procedural fairness has not been afforded;
Consider appeals based on records and findings of the original NDC hearing in order to determine if the outcome was a result of the legal or procedural error.
The NDAC will not retry cases or hear testimonies from witnesses, and the committee’s decisions may in turn be appealed against at the National Congress Ad-Hoc Appeals Committee as provided for in Article 10 Section 76 of the ruling party’s constitution.
Addressing the National Consultative Assembly, President Mugabe banned imposition of improper votes of no confidence. President Mugabe said votes of no confidence should only be passed for dereliction of duty.
“The vote of no confidence is not procedurally done when a person, for example, who is an official commits an offence somewhere and you say we pass a vote of no confidence. No. It is when a person who holds a particular position if failing to do work regarding that position effectively,” he said.- State Media
US$6,4 Million For War Vets’
Zanu PF will soon release US$6,4 million to pay second term school fees for children and dependents of war veterans.
This is to fulfil the President’s promise made in April to improve the welfare of former freedom fighters and their dependents.
About 43 000 children are listed as beneficiaries of the War Veterans School Fees Fund.
Secretary for Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Ex-Political Detainees and Ex-Restrictees Brigadier-General (Retired) Walter Tapfumaneyi told The Sunday Mail that Treasury had already transferred some of the money to accounts of beneficiaries.
“We are in the process of receiving money from Treasury as part of US$6,4 million billing per term. Some of the funds are already reflecting in our account.
“We are finalising clearing the remaining arrears for first term with schools that hold other accounts since we first dealt with account holders in banks such as POSB, Cabs and CBZ where the majority of our members are banked.
“We will be done with the minority accounts by early next week to pave way for the new processes which we believe won’t take time to dispatch to different schools as we have completed a new database of beneficiaries.
“Most parents are grateful with the work we have done so far, but we feel there is need to increase our pace so that children are not inconvenienced due to late payment of school fees. We plead with schools not to turn away children from attending lessons for non-payment of fees.”
Rtd Brig-Gen Tapfumaneyi said the new database of beneficiaries would root out fake claims.
War veterans are entitled to pensions, education fees, medical support, funeral cover, loans and subsistence benefits.
Rtd Brig-Gen Tapfumaneyi said a special purpose vehicle — People’s Own Wealth Empowerment Right (Power) Zimbabwe Private Limited — had been established to increase war veterans’ financial capacity through multi-million-dollar initiatives.

Zimbabwe’s Missing $15 Billion “Found” In London
A British Parliamentarian Lord David Chidgey, has sensationally revealed that some of Zimbabwe’s stolen $15 billion diamond money is stashed in London, prompting the government to extend investigations there.
Contributing to a debate on money laundering, Lord Chidgey described London as a “destination of choice” for proceeds from Zimbabwe’s diamonds fields, the ZANU PF state broadsheet media reports in an apologetic meant to justify President Robert Mugabe’s claims on the missing loot.
Many UK House Of Lords members are known ZANU PF apologists and one of them recently proposed for Britain to offer a UK retirement home for President Robert Mugabe, ZimEye.com can reveal.
The Liberal Democrat British legislator told the House of Lords that proceeds from Zimbabwe’s diamonds were being kept illegally in London banks, the Zim government media report continues saying.
The Auditor-General’s Office has already invited local and international auditors to investigate firms that mined diamonds in Chiadzwa over the past decade until Government took over all operations there early this year.
A senior Government official said that the probe went beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, and there have been reports that money illicitly flowed through banks in Botswana, Mozambique, the DRC, China and the United Arab Emirates.
Said Lord Chidgey: “The (British) government has announced a new anti-corruption strategy and support for a wide range of international institutions and initiatives.
However, what we now need to hear is the plan of action to end. There has been the misuse of companies, other legal entities and legal arrangements, including trusts, to hide the proceeds of corruption.
“How can we be taken seriously when the City of London is considered by many to be the money laundering capital of the world? London is the destination of choice, for example, for billions of dollars whisked out of The Crimea and the proceeds of the diamond fields of Zimbabwe and the bauxite mines of Guinea.”
Efforts to get further clarification from the British legislator over the last two weeks have been fruitless.
Secretary for Mines and Mining Development Professor Francis Gudyanga told the media that Zimbabwe was taking Lord Chidgey’s claims seriously.
“Government will look into the claims … At this moment we are discounting nothing, we know that some of the money is hidden away in foreign banks and hopefully the audit will flush that out into the open.
“As you, know the Auditor-General has already flighted a tender inviting experienced auditors to undertake the probe and from what I have gathered there has been generally a lot of interest. We are now at very advanced stage in terms of preparations for the audit to take off the ground.
“Tendering will be closed by June 29 and I understand the Auditor-General will, without delay, appoint qualified chartered accountants.”
At least three chartered accounting firms will be contracted to probe Mbada Diamonds, Anjin, Marange Resources, Diamond Mining Company, Kusena Diamonds, Jinan and Gye Nyame, who all operated in the Chiadzwa diamond fields via 50-50 joint ventures with the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation.
Government has said that where criminal prejudice is discovered, those responsible will be prosecuted.
According to the tender’s terms of reference, the auditors will look into how the companies managed their finances, receipts of payments and receipts from all diamond sales.
Auditor-General Ms Mildred Chiri told this publication, “Bidding for the tender is ongoing and we will be in a position to know all the firms that are interested to carry out the audit by the end of this month. The winning bid will be announced soon after the deadline for submission.
“We normally give the companies a period of about two months to complete the audit but it all depends with the type of work that they have to do and the length of time they need.”
In February 2016, the Mines and Mining Development Ministry ordered all diamond miners to cease operations in Chiadzwa, paving way for their merger into the State-run Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company.
Figures from the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme show that the country earned US$2,5 billion in 10 years of private operations in Chiadzwa – a figure Government believes falls significantly short of what was due.
The KPCS says Zimbabwe was the world’s eighth-largest diamond producer in 2014, with 4,7 million carats.
To derive greater benefit from its resources, Government set up the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company – a model successfully deployed in Botswana to improve earnings from mining by centralising operations.
Graft Blamed For Harare City Council Collapse
The Harare Residents Trust has blamed unabated graft in the Harare City Council for its failure to provide essential services and also to pay council employees their salaries on time.
This emerged after four Harare City Council officials allegedly diverted 52 000 litres of petrol worth US$70 400 last year and documents with incriminating evidence were destroyed. It is also alleged other important records were not availed for audit, thereby raising fear that more could have been looted.
Implicated in the fuel scandal are Messrs L Mabika, N Chitate, V Fundikwa and I Chirengo who allegedly connived to misappropriate 4 000 litres of petrol per day for 13 days.
It also emerged that 146 goods received notes vanished.
This is contained in an internal report dated April 27, 2016; titled “Systems review audit on procurement of fuel at Harare water”.
Council spokesman Mr Michael Chideme declined to discuss the matter.
However, the internal audit report is expected to be discussed at the full council meeting tomorrow.
Council auditors recommended the department of water to report the looting to police.
“Audit is concerned at the serious breakdown of procurement systems at Harare Water and feels that the misappropriation of fuel could have just been a tip of the iceberg as audit failed to vouch 146 goods received notes, due to failure by stores officer to avail them,” reported council auditors.
The audit report notes that from the onset, it was clear that Mabika had an intention to misappropriate the fuel because the volumes he requested (4 814 — 7 882) were far too large for the Harare Water Highfield’s petrol tank which measures 4 000 litres.
Mabika is accused of witnessing as fuel was loaded at the supplier’s depot. He also signed delivery notes although the fuel did not reach the council’s storage tanks.
Part of the audit report reads: “Stores personnel falsely acknowledged that the fuel was physically received and recorded, by processing the goods received notes for the fuel which was not received. The loss control records also show that the fuel was not physically received.”
Council officials stand accused of destroying 12 copies of fuel purchase order books.
“Fuel receiving books and goods received note books were not availed, raising fears that they could have been more fuel paid for but not received.
“More so, goods received note books at Highfield Stores could not be verified as they were only recorded in the security register on issuing only. Furthermore, some pages for an analysis book for transaction sent for payment by the procurement office during the same period were also destroyed,” reads part of the report. Auditors also unearthed lack of compliance to record goods received which were not entered into the receipt book.
It was revealed that goods received notes numbers 403851, 403855, 406508 and 501601 were fraudulently used as support for payment for goods which were never received.
In response, the Harare Residents’ Trust said: “The main reason the municipality is unable to pay council workers their salaries and provide essential services to the people is that most of the money being generated from viable ventures in being abused. Service delivery continues to deteriorate yet some funds are missing and no action is being taken to punish the culprits.
“Step Down!,” Churches Tell Mugabe
A united front of churches has called on President Robert Mugabe to resign in order to redeem the flagging fortunes of the country.
Several church organisations met in Harare this week, where a consensus was reached to put pressure on President Robert Mugabe to leave office for allegedly failing to run the country.
The Zimbabwe Divine Destiny (ZDD), Christian Prophetic Voice Zimbabwe, Christian Voice, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace, Christian Alliance and Prayer Network Zimbabwe, among others, convened a meeting to discuss efforts and approaches being taken by church organisations in response to Zimbabwe’s challenges.
The convener of the meeting, Ancelimo Magaya, said Mugabe was abusing citizens’ rights and implementing unworkable policies.
“There is a clear indication and consensus that President Mugabe has failed us. We feel very strongly that he is also too old to continue,” Magaya said.
“He has failed and we have made observations that whatever difficulties we are going through right now, it is actually a result of the leadership crisis where a leader has failed to provide servant leadership.”
Magaya said his ZDD would particularly mobilise for Mugabe to realise the need to pave way for others.
“As ZDD, we are going to increase action against reckless policies, ad hoc policies such as the introduction of bond notes. We are also going to resist a situation where a given bunch of people really take our lives for granted. Now we really have to push for his (Mugabe’s) retirement,” he said.
Pius Wakatama, of the Christian Prophetic Voice of Zimbabwe, said the Zanu PF government was politicising food aid, disrespecting the rule of law and was corrupt, urging the church to rise and defend the poor and powerless from abuse.
Opposition parties also threw their support behind the call by churches for Mugabe to step down.
MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said: “The involvement of the church in the country’s politics is a new dawn and vindicates what we have always said. We have always called for democracy and Mugabe to step down, but because we are a generally Christian nation, we hope they will accept the church’s call.”
Zimbabwe People First spokesperson Rugare Gumbo also said they were in full support of the church’s call for Mugabe to retire.
“The church has always been involved in politics even before independence and it played a big role in fighting oppression. The church is now reawakening and we hope the rest of the nation will look at the situation from the church’s perception,” Gumbo said.
Kurauone Chihwayi, the spokesperson for the MDC, also welcomed the stance taken by the Christian denominations.
“We hail the position taken by the clergy since it buttresses and approves the call by opposition political parties and civic society.
There is need for all sections of society to explore and agree on a working political formula or language that Robert Mugabe will understand,” Chihwayi said.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) have urged citizens to be vigilant, tolerant and united in working together towards transformation of the floundering economy.
ZHOCD raised concern over the delays in processing real-time gross settlement payments for a period of up to eight days.
The church leaders urged authorities to ensure that there was no heavy-handedness in ensuring compliance on various measures put forward in the financial sector, while expressing concern over high lending rates by local financial institutions and the introduction of bond notes.
They said if the government decides to carry on with bond notes, they must have an expiry date not going beyond December 2017. They called for the introduction of an independent board to monitor issuance of bond notes and allow respected international monetary institutions to monitor their injection into the financial system.-Newsday
Welshman Ncube Deserted
FORMER secretary general in the Professor Welshman Ncube led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Moses Mzila Ndlovu and at least 64 others have terminated their membership and completely cut off ties with the “green” party.
Ndlovu announced he and other former members were finally ending their relationship with MDC at a presser Saturday morning held at the Presbyterian Church in Bulawayo.
The meeting was also attended by about 150 people – most of them former members of the MDC such as Esaph Mdlongwa, Elizabeth Ndlovu, Abednico Moyo, Dudu Dube and former deputy minister of higher education, Lutho Tapela who was in the crowd.
The crowd even chanted “Simunye Mthwakazi, Simunye” meaning we are one nation.
Ndlovu said “serious” deliberations were made but the group realised there were irreconcilable differences which could not be solved between them and MDC leadership.
“The challenges bedeviling the people’s organisation, the MDC have long been a public issue. Of course the public at large might not be aware that while some ugly scenes played out in the media, both formal and informal means were attempted to resolve some of the problems through the laid down internal processes.”
Ndlovu said there “was a minimum of 65 people” who have turned in their MDC membership card and party regalia as a show of leaving the opposition party.
“As Zimbabweans, we have been exposed to cruel ways of terminating one’s party membership like burning t-shirts,” he said. “We are going to do things in a civilised way. If our colleagues insist that it belongs to them, we will engage in negotiations with them. For now, we are keeping custody of this (cards and regalia).”
The former secretary general pointed out despite numerous attempts to resolve the issues, no meaningful results were made.
“Indeed, the problems are deep rooted and complex to even try and narrate then here, suffice to say we have not resolved anything. Hence my acknowledgement and expression of gratitude to colleagues who waited trustingly and confidently for the internal processes to address these issues but unfortunately nothing has happened or even initiated along those lines. At this juncture and chapter of our protracted struggle, it is no longer a question of who did what and why? We have come to accept that let bygones be bygones. It is time to close that chapter,” he said.
“Some of us have taken a decision,” he said. “Since we are at crossroads, we were compelled to decide one way or the other. Indeed, making such profound decisions cannot be easy, but we have done so nonetheless. History will judge us by the decision we have taken. Having carefully studied our situation and the conditions in the MDC, we do not regret in this important decision.”
The former minister of National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration in the Government of National Unity, however, paid tribute to Prof Ncube and “all colleagues we have struggled together in the MDC.”
“There are lifelong lessons we learnt and would continue cherish especially from President of MDC, (Professor) Welshman Ncube,” Ndlovu said.
“Those amongst us who have worked with him since the formation of the MDC are well aware of his many qualities and commitment to democratic change. He always led from the front.”
Ndlovu dismissed suggestion that he is leaving the MDC to lead a regional party, but insisted that, “there is so much energy amongst us, we have no intention to say our departure from the MDC should also mark our departure from politics.”
Elizabeth Ndlovu, a former MDC in Matabeleland South, lamented that the leadership acted unilaterally compromising the party’s standing.
She referred to the infamous case involving Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga where it is alleged Prof Ncube handpicked her to represent Umzingwane constituency to the exclusion of local female candidates.
“I have been hurt and disappointed by the MDC. I started politics long ago where the likes of the late Joshua Nkomo used to respect me but only for me to be disappointed by MDC,” Ndlovu said.
She also encouraged potential male political leaders to behave themselves and respect women and stop making advances at females in the party.
“To the men close your zips, you can’t run a country where the agenda is to have as many women to your name,” Ndlovu claimed.

Mnangagwa Coup On Mugabe | POSSIBILITIES
Fictionalised prologue
ON November 19 2016, an army unit managed to “overpower” the Presidential Guard at President Robert Mugabe’s private residence, “The Blue Roof”. Security minister Kembo Mohadi and Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi, who backed the military outfit, the 2nd Brigade, immediately placed Mugabe under house arrest and proceeded to cut all his links to the outside world.
By Simukai Tinhu Political analyst
Summoned state television journalists were ordered to record the nonagenarian as he reads his “resignation” speech.
Due to ill-health, he reads the speech which interrupts the normal ZBC’s 8pm news bulletin. The president is stepping down and annointing Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa as his successor. Looking exhausted and “frail”, Mugabe finishes his speech by urging the party and nation to rally behind the Midlands heavyweight.
Six months down the line, Mnangagwa is firmly in power. Changes have been sweeping. His government has already introduced more than a hundred changes that include abolishing the elected mayors, city councillors and has closed down private radio stations on the one hand.
On the other hand, thousands of miles away from Harare, in his Saudi Arabian palace — the “Siberia” of deposed African leaders — Mugabe regrets as the three-hour long interview nears its end: “I made a mistake!”
The Guardian newspaper interviewer thinks to himself: the nonagenarian has never admitted to making a mistake before.
“So you think if you had changed the course of your country by introducing progressive economic reforms and liberalising the political system and then mapped out a succession plan, things might have turned out differently for your nation?”
But the former Zimbabwe strongman is talking about something totally different: “No! I mean, I should have seen this coming and finished Mnangagwa off within a year of being vice-president!”
Usually, internal crises of men of Mugabe’s gigantic intelligence take place in those most private and remote regions where we mere mortals can never reach. Did he mean demotion, expulsion or assassination? We will never know.
Mugabe’s stance on succession
In recent months, Mugabe’s room for political manoeuvre has been seriously squeezed by a trend within his own party. Since he ascended to the vice-presidency, those within the ruling party who are in support of Mnangagwa taking over have, on behalf of the reluctant Midlands godfather, been attempting to force out the nonagenarian. The most active in that endeavour have been the war veterans, a group of senior elites in the central committe and politburo and some youth groups who are eager to see the nonagenarian depart from the political scene and hand over the leadership of the party well before the 2018 elections.
In response to this growing pressure, the president has been characteristically outlandish. A couple of weeks ago, the nation’s strongman sanctioned the party’s youth wing to organise what has become known as the “million-man march” in support of his candidature for the upcoming elections.
At the million-man march, Mugabe reiterated that he has no intention, any time soon, of passing on the political baton to anyone, least of them Mnangagwa. His wife, Grace, supported her husband’s position and told the Zanu PF loyalists who thronged Robert Mugabe Square, just outside Harare’s central business district, that her husband was not going anywhere. Instead, he would rule from beyond the grave. According to her, he is “irreplaceable”.
In politics, such outlandish utterances, if said once, can be excused as a mistake or too much excitement by the speaker. The politician concerned might indeed go ahead and apologise and the public might have no qualms in forgiving him or her. But if the politician makes such statements more than once, these statements then form a trend and the public should have a greater interest in their meaning. This is not the first time that the First Lady has said something similar, with the same message being directed at Mnangagwa. Before, she has talked about getting a wheel barrow or a special wheelchair for her husband if his age becomes a stumbling block to eternal rulership.
What more clear message does Mnangagwa need in order to understand that his senior in the party and government has no intention of handing over power to him, any time soon. Indeed, if he continues to forestall his allies in the army and war veterans association’s call for a much more confrontational approach with the president, his ambitions risk suffering a still birth like those of his predecessor, Joice Mujuru.
The Midlands godfather seems to prefer the wait-and-see approach, hoping one day to receive a letter from State House or a hospital in the Far East telling him that Mugabe has succumbed to biology. On the other hand, his allies, in particular the impatient war veterans and Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Constantine Chiwenga, who risks losing his job anytime soon, are urging him to ratchet up the pressure against Mugabe. With Mnangagwa contradicting a confrontational style favoured by his allies, what you have in the Team Lacoste, as the Mnangagwa camp is known, is a muddled grand approach to remove the president.
But with such strong resistance from the president, his wife and their G40 loyalists on one hand and a poor strategy by Team Lacoste on how to undermine the nonagenarian on the other, Zanu PF might as well be represented by a 94-year-old at the 2018 elections. Indeed, time is running out for the 77-year-old Mnangagwa — he is not 74 as officially understood — leaving a coup, whether in the party or government, as the only realistic strategy to push Mugabe out well before the upcoming elections.
Before venturing much into this discussion, let it be understood that writings about a coup should not be interpreted as a deadly suggestion — that is, if you don’t want your elected leaders, you have to get rid of them through extra-constitutional means. Nor should it be seen as an expression of one’s wishes. Writing about coups in our very own context is important in the sense that it helps broaden our imagination to the realms of what can happen to any political system, including our own. Coups have been executed in some of the most unimaginable political situations. Surely, a coup must have crossed the minds of Mnangagwa’, Chiwenga and others at some point.
Now, let’s look at various ways in which Mnangagwa can at least in theory orchestrate a coup.
Allies in the military
Mnangagwa is close to Chiwenga whom he reportedly intends to make a potential vice-president. In return for the vice-presidency and potentially passing on the leadership baton in the future, the general can facilitate a coup. The nonagenarian could be arrested, pressured to tender his resignation and then hand over power to his vice-president.
Alternatively, the military could declare a coup without directly contacting Mugabe. The claim to “restore democracy and reconstruct the country” could be cited as the reasons for this extreme measure. State of emergency is declared and parliament suspended.
The military will then follow the standard post — coup restoration of civilian order sequence. Initially, they might probably want to run the country themselves with Chiwenga heading a military government for a couple of years whilst “progressive reforms” are being implemented or install a transitional civilian government run by handpicked politicians, mostly from the ruling party, Zanu PF. An election will then have to be organised after at the end of the transitional government. The Midlands godfather will then “win the election”.
However, Mnangagwa is unlikely to take this course. This is because there is a massive chance that a military coup might fail. Mugabe’s allies may call an anti-coup demonstration or protest that might galvanise the president’s support base of women, youths, Mashonaland provinces and rural voters against coup plotters. The security sector itself, in particular, that section of young officers who detest Mnangagwa might turn against the coup. Indeed, they might back off and even join the protesters if the coup faces stiff resistance.
Also, the vice-president understands how seriously Mugabe takes being challenged. If the coup fails and is sent into reverse, this move will certainly have serious consequences for Mnangagwa’s camp. Not only will his ambitions be dealt a huge blow, but also the nonagenarian might take extreme measures.
Hunting down Mnangagwa and his allies will follow if a coup fails. Furthermore, for a man who craves legitimacy, in order to mask his historical human rights abuses and corruption, Mnangagwa understands that ascending to power through a military coup means that all that work that he has undertaken in order to convince the British, in particular, and the West in general that he is the right man for the job, might suddenly unravel.
Using party elites
Mnangagwa has not only grown powerful as a result of the security sector support, but also within the party. He has a huge following of party elites within both the politburo and central committee who wants him to take over.
He can use these disgruntled party elites either through the ruling party structures, as Mujuru attempted to do in 2013, or those party elites in the politburo or central committee to openly defy Mugabe thereby undermine his authority. If Mugabe submits to this pressure, this could be seen as a “soft coup” — a palace coup.
This again, is a strategy which is fraught with risks. None in the politburo or party’s central committee who were appointed by the nonagenarian for that matter can openly challenge Mugabe. Not only do these elites risk losing their positions within the party, but they also risk being kicked out of the party or government altogether. This will not only mean loss of political power, but most importantly loss of patronage and access to state resources for personal survival.
Political allegiance in Zanu PF is also fluid making it difficult for the vice-president to have a good estimate of who is and who is not on his side. As the case of three youthful politicians who until recently owed their political careers to the Midlands godfather, Zanu PF elites are ready to jump ship when their political careers are threatened. Mnangagwa used his political capital, resources and networks for the former ZBC reporter, Makhosini Hlongwane, Anastacia Ndhlovu and Tapiwa Matangaidze to further their political careers. However, these politicians have since switched sides to G40, which is led by Grace Mugabe.
Alliance with the opposition
This then leaves Mnangagwa with only one realistic option — an alliance with the opposition.
This can be done in two ways. First, utilising state resources and also his authority within the government, Mnangagwa can use the opportunity provided by the protests against Mugabe’s rule or use his power within the government to provoke a crisis that can be used by the opposition to stage a demonstration. Indeed, Harare’s political rumour mill has it that Mnangagwa, through his ally Patrick Chinamasa, mooted the idea of bond notes, a political move meant to undermine Mugabe’s leadership, or clandestinely encourage the opposition to protest against Mugabe’s rule. Not only will he need to devote resources to that cause, but he also needs to use his connections in the security sector to be restrained in their containment of these protests. The objective of such a strategy will be to erode Mugabe’s authority through delegitimation, forcing him to reconsider his position as party and the nation’s leader.
Second, he can combine forces with the MDC parties and use the legislative approach to push Mugabe out. This would be in the form of an impeachment. The president could be impeached on various grounds, but mostly realistically for corruption and incompetence in government. Mnangagwa would have to persuade a sufficient number of Zanu PF legislators to back his plan and also earn the trust of the opposition which is, however, likely to view that strategy with suspicion.
If it were to be successful, this strategy will allow Mnangagwa to earn legitimacy in the eyes of the international community and possibly some sections of the opposition. The resultant transitional or government of national unity with the opposition will allow him to buy time that he will certainly need to consolidate his position within his party and government in the post-Mugabe era.
Will a coup happen?
Mnangagwa is not a risk-taker. Though many point to the Tsholotsho Declaration of 2004, in which he attempted to circumvent Mugabe’s then choice of vice-president, Joice Mujuru, many have to remember that this was not his idea nor did he execute it personally. It was Professor Jonathan Moyo’s idea and his other allies at the time. Also, without clear signs that Mugabe has been weakened significantly, Mnangagwa is also unlikely to make any move against his senior.
In addition, a coup might set him on a collision course with London, which he is so desperately keen to impress.
But most importantly, almost every coup has been preceeded by strong rumours and in some cases, strong evidence of an impending coup. Indeed, there is always a sense of sweeping of the regime, which any insightful leader such as Mugabe would be able to see. These are both missing in Zimbabwe, and this explains why Mugabe can afford to leave for a month-long holiday in the Far East with the man who wants to take his position in charge of the nation. Such audacity tells us that the prospects of a coup in Zimbabwe are very remote even if politics is unpredictable.

Mugabe Faces Horrific, Nasty Endgame
JUDGING by his unprecedented attacks on war veterans in Harare yesterday, President Robert Mugabe — wobblingly on his 92-year-old legs — is clearly heading towards a nasty clash with the ex-combatants as he faces an endgame of tragic dimensions.
By Dumisani Muleya | Mugabe declared war on the ex-combatants, some of whom directly helped him to gain control of Zanu PF through the Mgagao Declaration during the liberation struggle amid deadly internal power struggles, as he threatened to crush them for interfering in his raging succession battle.
Like the late retired army commander General Solomon Mujuru who helped Mugabe to seize control of the Zanu PF leadership from founding leader Ndabaningi Sithole in Mozambique at the height of internal party strife in the 1970s, war veterans now find themselves at war with their patron.
Mujuru died in a mysterious fire at his farmhouse in 2011 after clashes with Mugabe as he plotted to oust him from power. Mugabe continues to denounce him after his death.
Now the gloves are off against war veterans.
Addressing the Zanu PF central committee in Harare yesterday, Mugabe warned that “politics should always lead the gun and never the gun leading politics.”
Alluding to the 1980s Gukurahundi conflict and the resultant massacres of innocent civilians following political clashes between Zanu and Zapu, as well as his fight against Joshua Nkomo under the pretext of combating dissidents — former Zipra army deserters — Mugabe evoked memories of the grisly atrocities which showed his dark side early after independence.
“The dissidents tried it, they were war veterans and you know what happened. Lots of trouble, lots of fighting, lots of suffering of course to our people and these dissident activities cannot be allowed,” he said. “Is it the case that we are seeing another rise of our dissident activities. War veterans must know that it is the politics that leads the gun, not vice versa as war veterans are not the bosses of the party.”
He went further: “It’s not your business to choose who should succeed the president and who should not, worse doing so under the pretext that there would be bloodshed if your preferred person doesn’t succeed.”
Mugabe warned there would be serious consequences.
While Mugabe claimed to be fighting dissidents in the 1980s, his real agenda was to establish a one-party state and become president for life by crushing his rival Nkomo and Zapu. Nkomo survived an assassination attempt.
Human rights groups say at least 20 000 civilians in the Midlands and south-western regions were massacred.
However, in the process Mugabe found himself during the Cold War-era conflict awkwardly collaborating by design and default with apartheid South Africa to fight war-time comrades in Zapu and the ANC. Declassified records show this.
War veteran leaders, especially Chris Mutsvangwa, Victor Matematanda and Douglas Mahiya, have been breathing fire, shelling the Zanu PF faction led by Mugabe’s wife Grace, G40, left, right and centre in the ongoing war of attrition over succession.
Indirectly, they have been criticising Mugabe for his alliance with G40 and cracking down on them as shown by the police quelling their anti-Grace protests in March before a fire-fighting meeting in Harare on April 7.
While it appeared on the surface, the meeting had hammered out a truce between Mugabe and the war veterans, backed by the military, tensions remained bubbling under the surface.
In reality, war veterans are now fighting Mugabe over succession. Actually, it’s a fight between Mugabe and top army commanders by proxy — a hostile contest for the control of Zanu PF and who takes over from Mugabe. We now have brinkmanship between Mugabe and the army. The end is unpredictable.
The war veterans want to stampede Mugabe into stepping down, clearing the way for their unofficial patron, Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa who leads a rival Zanu PF faction.
With Mutsvangwa in reaction dismissing Mugabe as acting on “falsehoods” and the veteran leader’s record of fierce reprisals and brutality, the stage is set for a dramatic finale.- Independent

Mugabe Orders Chinese to Bank in Zimbabwe
ZANU-PF First Secretary President Mugabe yesterday criticised some Chinese businessmen for failing to deposit their cash into local banks and instead, smuggling it to their home country. He also rapped them for not bringing along their wives when working on projects that ran for several years, saying this could lead them to prey on local girls. President Mugabe said this while addressing members of the revolutionary party’s National Consultative Assembly at the Zanu-PF Headquarters yesterday.
Failure to deposit daily takings has been cited as one of the causes of the prevailing cash shortages. “KuSouth Africa ndinonzwa kuti vakazoramba mazhing-zhong, anonzi mazhing- zhong, nekuti vanobva vatoraka madhora edu voenda nawo ikoko (kuChina). Havaisi mumabank medu, havabhengi.

The President said it had been observed that most Chinese nationals leave behind their wives when coming for long-term projects, leaving people to wonder if they will be celibate. “Zvino ruzhinji rwacho vanongouya varume vogavoga. He said Government would continue engaging Chinese authorities since the two countries enjoyed good bilateral relations to ensure that some of these issues were addressed. “Tinongoramba tichitaura navo, kuti vanhu vatinonzwana navo paushamwari hwedu, saka hatingarasane navo. Tichitaura nevakuru vavo kuti apa dai maona apa,” he said.
He castigated financial institutions for steep bank charges and high interest rates. President Mugabe said he received a complaint last week from a corporate entity that was levied more than $200 in bank charges for depositing $350 000.
“If $350 000 has come into the account of a person and into your bank, you should give him interest because it increases your capacity to lend also. I think the banking system deserves to be looked into. We should look into it almost immediately,” said President Mugabe. He also castigated party cadres for trading insults and accusations though social media.
President Mugabe said by exchanging harsh words through hostile private media, they would be exposing themselves to ridicule by opposition parties. “Ava vanonyora zvimapepa ava vanoti aiwa, don’t blame us. Blame your people in the party who give us information. But why do we do that?” asked President Mugabe.
He said anyone with issues should bring them to the party organs like the Central Committee. “Kana tichitukana tirimuno, zvoperera muno, ndezveduka, tabuda panze, tiripamwe chete, kwete tabuda panze toti hacha, haa tosekwa naanaTsvangirai baba iwekani, tinonyarira kupi. Ngatiregerei kudaro,” said President Mugabe.
He said the First Family had been demonised with the First Lady being ascribed a faction each time she delivered a speech during political rallies. President Mugabe also rapped men who sexually abuse young girls, saying there was need for stiff sentences like castration.
“Ndakakura ndichifudza mombe dzavasekuru. Taingoda kuti tingova nemabhuru maviri, kana rimwe chete mudanga. Twese tumwe twaiva tumabhuru twataiziva hatungakanganise dzimwe mombe, taitupa bhadhiso. Gaa-gaa bhadhiso. Hazvina mhosva unopfeka zvako mabhurukwa ako nesutu yako, asi baba vanenge vaenda,” he said to a rousing applause.
He applauded Zanu-PF Youth League led by deputy secretary, Cde Kudzai Chipanga for conducting a successful One-million Man March last month. He urged them to continue respecting their elders. He said the votes of noconfidence that saw several party officials being suspended were not procedurally done stressing that some of the allegations warranted people to be brought before a disciplinary hearing.
President Mugabe said a vote-of-no-confidence should only be used when an office bearer was failing to discharge his or her duties efficiently, saying that was different from misconduct. He said some of the allegations emanated from petty differences.
President Mugabe reiterated his call for the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association to be disciplined saying they had no right to determine who should succeed him particularly when it was being done outside the party.
Chiyangwa On ZIFA Salary Debt: “None Of My Business!”
NATIONAL Football Association of Zimbabwe (NAFAZ) president Phillip Chiyangwa has said the former Zifa workers’ plight is not his problem since they participated in plundering the dissolved association’s resources.
The debt-ridden football mother body was dissolved on Saturday, which was followed by the birth of a new football supreme body in the country, NAFAZ.
Chiyangwa said the workers participated in mismanaging the organisation until it was on its knees so much so that it could not be revived.
He said the new organisation had started on a fresh page and would not tolerate Zifa’s problems at its doorstep.
“The Zifa employees and all those who were owed by that organisation are no longer my problem. That is the liquidator’s baby,” Chiyangwa said.
“I do not want to talk about the Zifa employees, but what is surprising about this whole thing is that these people kept on going to work for an organisation that they knew was dead and had no capacity to pay them. They were part of the problem. They participated in mismanaging that organisation. They plundered that organisation because I fail to understand the interest of someone in working when they are not paid. To be honest, in my view, those workers are dangerous. How were they surviving for such a long time?”
Chiyangwa said now that they had formed a new organisation, they would work without the weight of the Zifa debt on their backs.
He added that the debt was not their problem, suggesting that the individuals in the administration that accumulated the debt should be accountable.
“We left an organistaion that was insolvent. We did not create those debts. We did not want to be associated with those debts, and neither did we want to be bothered about anybody thinking we should have stuck with it. Those that left without paying the debts are the ones that should answer for those debts and there is a law for prosecuting those that plundered the association.”
He said they arrived at the decision to dissolve Zifa after realising the organisation could not carry on and it could not be revived.
“I went into office on December 5 and immediately took leave for South Africa since I had been diagnosed with thyroid infection and went to South Africa for further examination. During that time, I took time to reflect on the situation at Zifa and it became apparent to me that based on the financial situation, whatever needed to happen needed to happen pretty fast.”
He said he could not foresee the organisation being rescued from its financial predicament, particularly after he had discovered that the previous administration had misled everybody, including Fifa, about owning properties which it did not have any shares in.
“I had a look at the financials and discovered that they were misleading. They were not correct in the submissions. From 2010 everything had been inflated, amounts related to properties. The previous executive had misled everybody, including Fifa. They had presented to Fifa they owned properties, which were in the name of a private entity, which they had no share in,” he said.
The properties include Zifa Village and Zifa House, which housed the association’s headquarters, and a property in Kensington as well as another one in Bulawayo.
All the properties belong to Zifa (Private) Limited.
Chiyangwa said it was against this background that he presented the facts to the members who all agreed that the situation was unsustainable since the association could not fund any of its obligations and no one was willing to help with finances to offset the debt which was running to $6 million.
“We had consultations among our members and we concurred that the situation was untenable and we had to shut shop. Having sought legal advice, we went to Fifa and they overwhelmingly accepted our proposal to dissolve and form another organisation. (We) went to congress on (last) Saturday to present the accounts and then find a way forward. That is what our notice was. It was then put to the councillors whether they wanted to continue with that situation. We went to a vote and the decision was to dissolve Zifa,” Chiyangwa said.
NAFAZ had adopted a constitution the day before, and after elections on Saturday, they have started the ball rolling.
The board consists of 12 members, who include two vice-presidents Peter Dube and Omega Sibanda, while the regional chairpersons have also been roped in.
They hope to acquire their own properties to house the headquarters, currently lodging at Chiyangwa’s private office building along Enterprise Road in Harare.
Kenny Ndebele, who will double as both NAFAZ and Premier Soccer League secretary-general, has since started work at the football motherbody.
Chiyangwa said he was not bothered about talk from outside since he had already proved to be a good administrator.
“I am the most successful administrator since Independence. My Mighty Warriors have qualified for Rio 2016 Olympics, the men are going to Afcon and they qualified with a match to spare. So, at the new organisation, we are just focusing on working for the good of football and we will not listen to negative sentiments about what we are doing. All the members are happy and Fifa is happy.” -Newsday
Dokora Imposes Grade 7 Agriculture Exams
Education Minister Lazarus Dokora has arranged a trial Grade seven agriculture examination in a move expected to enlighten teachers and pupils on the importance of the subject.
The examination is set for this year. Speaking at the Young Farmers’ Clubs Empowerment and Entrepreneurship project launch, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Lazarus Dokora said agriculture was at the centre of the new curriculum.
“Agriculture is at the centre of the new curriculum. This wasn’t an accident but a deliberate strategy to support the land reform programme in the country. Today Zimbabweans have the land but not necessarily the skills to work the land.
“In this context education is challenged to bridge that gap. Pursuant to that goal, my ministry has arranged to have a trial Grade Seven examination in agriculture this year. This is meant to make both teachers and learners take account of agriculture seriously,” he said.
“Agricultural skills in crop farming and animal husbandry, for example, are some exit skills that the new curriculum will impart to the learners.” He said the new curriculum enabled school learners to gain practical skills which they could use to start businesses.
“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education recognises the need for practical skills training in our youths and that’s why a new curriculum has been developed. The new curriculum enables school learners to gain practical skills which they can use to start their businesses upon completing their basic education,” he said.
The new curriculum would be implemented next year.-state media
UK to Boost Zimbabwe’s Economy If…
British ambassador, Catriona Laing, has advised President Robert Mugabe to intensify his government’s re-engagement process with the west for the current economic challenges the Southern African country is facing to end.
Zimbabwe has been hit by cash shortages which have seen thousands of people sleeping in bank queues to access their salaries.
The situation has forced government to introduce the so called Bond Notes to address the cash crisis, but the business community as well as economists say the introduction of the same would create shortages of goods and services.
President Robert Mugabe on Thursday, told his Politburo meeting that the introduction of Bond Notes was going to solve the cash shortages the country is experiencing.
The veteran leader also described the rejected currency as “the only cure,” suggesting that only a Zim dollar return would fix the ailing economy.
Mugabe said the cash crisis is “temporary” and that government will press on with the introduction of bond notes, which he called a “surrogate currency,” despite opposition from the market.
Addressing government officials, the diplomats and invited guests who were gathered for the Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday celebrations, in Harare Thursday, British ambassador to Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing, said Zimbabwe’s EU re-engagement process was the only solution to the country’s economic woes.
“We do encourage the government to accelerate the process of re-engagement with the international community as part of tackling the fundamental economic challenges.
“We will do as UK what we can to stimulate the economy,” she said.
“On behalf of the United Kingdom I want to assure Zimbabweans that we are here to support this re-engagement process very actively,” said Ambassador Laing.
‘Deep Stick’ Sex Bank Bosses Under Parliamentary Probe
Bank executives and managers are failing to keep their hands off their female colleagues in rampant cases of sexual harassment that have now been brought to the attention of Parliament.
Representatives from the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions and the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions who appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Public Service Sociological Welfare told of how employers also use the Labour Amendment Act passed into law last year to convert workers’ contracts from permanent to one-year fixed contracts.
They said employers took advantage of employees by applying the carrot and stick method in order to have their way.
ZCTU vice president Mr Peter Mutasa said female employees were the most affected. “We have instances where female employees are now being sexually harassed,” he said. “You have to choose between being abused and a three months’ notice. If it’s a female-headed household you can guess what the employee will choose. “In short, the impact of that amendment is that it eroded all the other pieces of law that seek to protect workers.”
MPs asked that he corroborates his claims by clearly stating where such abuses were rampant.
“We have done a survey in the banking sector and the figures coming from these banks are too high. You hear women testifying that ‘our managers are telling us to book for lodges and hotels using our own money and say call us when you are ready.
“Managers will be holding a three-months termination letter. If you don’t want, you are put on the (termination) list. So people are suffering. Women are suffering much more than men with this amendment. If we don’t protect labour by protecting job security, we are destroying the nationhood of this country which is against our ideals,” said Mr Mutasa.- state media
BLOOD ON THE FLOOR-Mugabe’s War Declaration | ANALYSIS
Ndaba Nhuku|President Robert Mugabe and the War Vets Association are both wrong. Pres. Mugabe was out of order when he castigated his war vets whilst referring to the Gukurahundi disturbances. Gukurahundi era remains an emotive and painful episode Mugabe has stubbornly refused to address.
He authored it and yet strenuously refuses to address his ‘moment of madness.’ For him to refer to it in his anger against war vets can be perceived as nothing but insensitivity to the victims of his murderous Fifth Brigade troops.
While we are criticising Pres Mugabe, we need to be against appearing to be cementing the same system we are not happy with. Pres Mugabe is angry with war vets for publicly stating that they want to have VP Mnangagwa succeed him; and that short of that, blood will spill. For me, Mugabe and the war vets are one and the same, and must be condemned unreservedly for advocating for the same dictatorship, albeit with different individuals in mind. War vets want Mugabe to anoint their preferred Ngwena as his successor, and we don’t know who Mugabe has in mind. Both are supporting and advocating for a system that is not democratic in any way. If Zanu wants Mugabe to appoint a successor, he has to appoint someone of his choice, and that person can be anyone, including his wife!! Does the party constitution state that its president has to appoint a successor?
Anyway why do War Vets want Mnangagwa imposed on the party as a successor? Does the party want him or it is only a section of the war vets that wants Mnangagwa to succeed Mugabe? Why do the war vets want Mnangagwa appointed without going through the party’s electoral process? One would have thought the war vets are a neutral organ of the party that adheres to the principles of democracy, yet it seems they are a very partisan group ready to threaten the party to meet its own needs. In that regard, they are no different from Mugabe and thus should not worry when he appoints anyone else, or his wife as successor.
What I find unsettling is for both Mugabe and war vets association to threaten the nation with war. War vets speak of spilling blood; whose blood and for whose benefit? For what? Mugabe speaks of another Gukurahundi. For what and for whose benefit? Just because both want to install their own preferred dictator? Both parties need calling to order. Zimbabweans should not be made to suffer simply because of their selfishness.
Pastor Forces 6yr Old Kids to Pay Tithes
Dear Editor.
I write with deep concern as the pastor of my church has ordered our kids to pay tithes. My son who is 6 years old came home telling us they are being told to pay monthly tithes. I have approached the Sunday school teachers and they told us that this is the only way to obtain the favour of God. So does God require us to buy His favour? And also how is it still be favour then? I am confused. I am new to pentecostalism and so need help understanding.

Teachers’ Leave Days Too Long – Govt
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Tapiwa Matangaidze has said there is need to review the current framework on vacation leave for teachers as it tends to give them an unfair advantage over other civil servants, since they have three months holiday per year coupled with a three month leave entitlement after seven years.
He said while Government agrees that teachers are entitled to leave, there is need to rationalise the framework.
He was responding to a barrage of questions from several Senators on whether Government would review the leave framework for educators considering that the Labour Court ruled that the State could not unilaterally revoke that right.
Manicaland Senator David Chimhini (MDC-T) wanted to know what the way forward was, considering the ruling by the Labour Court.
“We are bound by the court’s ruling. But the point is there is a good case to argue that the leave days for teachers is excessive and unsustainable.
“There is need for framework to rationalise the leave days. What we have here is a department in Government which is seasonal just like tobacco industry. There is a season when teaching does not occur like January, August and December,” said Deputy Minister Matangaidze.
Harare metropolitan Senator Theresa Makoni (MDC-T) asked why Government wanted to vary conditions that had been in existence since colonial times and after independence.
Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister Paul Mavima weighed in saying there is need to do things efficiently and effectively.
He said the fact that the practice had been there before independence did not make it right.
Responding to another question, Deputy Minister Matangaidze said Government had three months’ supply of food for the vulnerable.
He said more food was expected both for the vulnerable and to help under the food for work programme.
“We are currently sitting on enough stock. We have three months’ supply and more is expected,” said Deputy Minister Matangaidze.
He said there had been an increase in the elderly and people living with disabilities who required food owing to drought. – State Media

Mugabe Speaks On Vote Of No Confidence
The Zanu PF leader, President Robert Mugabe has said that the first part of 2016 has been marked by frequent votes of no confidence which have affected the party badly.
Addressing members of the National Consultative Assembly at the party headquarters in Harare this Friday, the President defined what constitutes a vote of no confidence saying a vote of no confidence can only be passed for an individual in a given position who fails to discharge his mandate in that given position.
President Mugabe explained that it is unprocedural to pass a vote of no confidence on the basis of trivial, personal or petty issues. He said those charged with other offences relating to wrong association or selling out is a punishable offence but is not classified as case warranting a vote of no confidence.
He cited the example of a secretary for information who fails to write minutes or other officials who are found wanting in their portfolios, adding that the party is dealing with many cases relating to votes of no confidence, some of which were unprocedural.
The President said some of the votes of no confidence were passed on the basis of personal grudges. Mr Mugabe re-visited the subject of war veterans saying many party leaders are war veterans and that they are free to offer advice and solutions within the party and not dictate from outside.
The President took a swipe at some newspapers which claimed that he has vowed to crash the war veterans saying it is not possible because he is also a war veteran and cannot crash himself.
The President took time to thank the youth league for the Million Man March saying they should go another gear up and organise for the success of ZIM ASSET.
He said he is committed to uplifting youths through skills development and development of education and urged them to shun factions. He implored party members to stop fights on the social media and called for the closing of ranks within Zanu PF. He also said while disagreements may occur within, there is no need to wash dirty linen in public.
The President also expressed concern at the increasing rate of violent crimes, including rape, where he said government is considering castration.
The consultative assembly meeting is the first one this year and a second should be held later in the year. – State Media
Mugabe Assassination Threats: President Sets Stage
By Farai Mamina| Mugabe’s ‘Gukurahundi’ threat is a thrilling epilogue to three decades rule.
It is a self-made recipe for a thrilling epilogue to three decades of the “Jump” and “How high” type of leadership the man has been as Zanu PF boss. It will be interesting to see how he does it this time around given that he wants to repeat the same bloody 1983 gunfire.
Looking at the odds and reminiscing the uniformed Constantine Chiwenga’s sentiments that war veterans were the stockholders rather than stakeholders of the regime, I am suddenly gifted to see an end similar to the biblical Armageddon. You see – the male lion simply cannot kill the lioness that hunts on its behalf. The moment it tries is the moment the lionesses and their grown cubs will gang up and kill the male lion. The equation is going to be that simple. In the greater scheme of things Mugabe cannot hold the gun and shoot. He has to command. But then for one to command, there has to be numbers commanded. Unfortunately those very numbers are the ones he is planning to command against – do you see it working out? I shouldn’t think so.
If perhaps Mugabe is banking on the mobilisation of the few tens of thousands of youths that marched in the 100 thousand youth march against the war veterans, then he is wasting time. Those youths are as good enough cowards as their fellow Lumumba guy now better known for his sex tapes than his videos lambasting Zanu PF – all thanks to Professor musorobhangu’s propaganda. Because of their penchant for skirts, they have no tenacity and pedigree to attend one trigger pulling lesson.
Therefore: Gukurahundi at 92 = Hastly arranged Exile for your all and sundry. This is not a Zanu vs Zapu war anymore henceforth, you cannot wage a war against your lieutenants and expect to win Mr President.
Prophet Flees Angry Family Over ‘Goblin’ Cleansing Dupe
Terence Mawawa | A self-styled prophet, Isaac Makomichi was forced to run for dear life being exposed for planting a fake goblin in a home-stead he was apparently ‘cleansing’ of demons. Makomichi, who is a leader of one of the many spiritist churches in the country, the Miracle Healing and Deliverance Ministry, was forced to flee from the homestead after family members discovered he had planted ta fake goblin in the main bedroom of their house, in order to dupe them over his ability to exorcise demons.
He had demanded $490 to carry out the exercise.
The incident happened last week in Chirumanzi where Makochi was invited by Trust Chembesi whose three year old son had fallen ill, to conduct the deliverance session.
“I visited Makomichi last Sunday and he told me there were goblins and demons which were tormenting my son and said there was need to visit my homestead to exorcise the evil spirits,” Chembesi narrated his ordeal with the fake prophet.
He further explained, “Makomichi asked us to pray facing the north and as we prayed one of his emissaries planted the fake goblin in the main bedroom. However, my brother Maxwell noticed it.” At being discovered, Makomichi disappeared into the fields with Chembesi and his relatives in hot pursuit. His Nissan X-trail vehicle was badly damaged as he fled from the scene.
“We then asked him to hand over the so called goblin to us but he refused. He became jittery and fled from the house and we pursued him ,”explained Chembesi.
Makomichi however dismissed the story as baseless adding he never planted the said goblin at the homestead. He also threatened to sue Chembesi for the damages to his car.
Zahara Gets Engaged to New Boyfriend
Men across South Africa dreamt of one day becoming Zahara’s husband.
But this week news broke that will lead to disappointment for all of them.
The popular Afro Pop singer has confirmed she is engaged to DJ Amaza Ntshanga.
The truth came out at TMG Entertainment’s event to celebrate DJ S’bu’s radio comeback on Vuma FM. At the party Zahara couldn’t hide the pretty, shining rock on her finger.
In October there were rumours that the Loliwe hitmaker and her boyfriend were engaged but she denied them. Since then the singer’s love life has been hogging the entertainment headlines.
However, at an event held in Joburg yesterday, she finally admitted she would be tying the knot.
“Yes, OK. I’m engaged but I’m not going to tell you who to,” she said when journalists asked her about the ring on her finger.
“I’m engaged and not married. You know I don’t talk about my personal life,” she said, hiding her fingers in black gloves.
Although the singer from the Eastern Cape, born Bulelwa Mkutukana, didn’t really want to talk about her engagement, she was smiling from ear to ear when she was asked about the ring.
She told Daily Sun she would soon be going on an international tour to promote her recently released album, Country Girl.
“I will start my tour with shows in Austria and New York.”
She said Country Girl went gold within 20 hours of its release and hit platinum in less than a week on the market.
She was also excited to speak about a single she was working on with DJ S’bu, about blessings and gratitude. The Afro-pop queen added she would soon be recording a live DVD where she would perform songs from both her albums.
Back in 2013, there was a story of Sifiso Simelane, who wanted to pay 100 cows as lobola for Zahara, but she declined them. He then started praying for his dream to come true, but yesterday he told the People’s Paper he had accepted the battle was lost.
He said he would respect her and the choice she had made. -Daily Sun
AFM Pastor Madziyire In Car Accident
Controversial Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe President, Aspher Madziyire , is said to have been involved in a road accident near Mvuma.
According to one of his junior pastors, Judah Danda, who posted on the church’s Facebook page, Madzivire escaped with minor injuries.
“He was with his wife and they are said to be fine. We thank God. Let us pray for them,”posted pastor Danda.
Madziyire was last year dragged to the High court by disgruntled church pastors, deacons and elders challenging his re-election as the church’s president.
He is also being accused by the church of tampering with the church’s constitution to allow him and his close allies in the leadership to clinch on to power.
A pastor with the church told The Standard last year one senior pastor (name supplied) who was gunning for the vice-presidency had three birth certificates with different dates of birth indicating he was born in 1954, 1956 and 1961.
AFM constitution is said not to allow anyone above 60 years to be voted into the church’s presidium and that could be the reason why one of the leading pastors had tampered with the dates on his identity documents.
The fierce leadership wrangle has raised fears that one of the country’s leading Pentecostal churches may be headed for a possible split after some pastors and elders dragged their administrators to court challenging the way they conducted the church’s presidential and overseers’ elections last month.
According to court documents, some pastors, deacons and overseers from the church’s 20 provinces approached the court seeking nullification of Madziyire’s election as president.
The pastors also alleged the leaders involved “created” delegates who were not supposed to vote.
Madziyire is alleged to have achieved this by creating three provinces: Manicaland East, Murewa and Mashonaland Central.

Magistrate Languishes in Cells
A FORMER magistrate who faces rape charges in two separate cases is still behind bars after his appeal against a decision not to grant him bail was dismissed in the Windhoek High Court yesterday.
He could find no fault with the way the magistrate who presided over Jaco Kennedy’s bail hearing dealt with the bail application, Judge Alfred Siboleka said when he handed down judgement on Kennedy’s appeal against the magistrate’s decision.
In the circumstances of Kennedy’s case, it was his view that it would not have been in the public interest for the magistrate to grant bail to Kennedy, Judge Siboleka said in the appeal judgement.
The Namibian reported that Kennedy (29), who is a law graduate and former magistrate, was on bail on an earlier rape charge when he was again arrested on a count of rape at the end of January this year. After a bail hearing in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura, magistrate Bernedine Kubersky turned down his request to be granted bail on 22 February.
Kennedy was arrested on 30 January in connection with an incident that is alleged to have taken place in Windhoek on 31 December last year.
Judge Siboleka recounted in his judgement that Kennedy is alleged to have offered transport to the complainant in the case while she was waiting for a taxi to take her to work. Instead of driving to her workplace, though, he allegedly stopped at a nearby riverbed, where he sexually assaulted her, according to the complainant.
He then dropped her off at work, where a friend was waiting for her. They took the registration number of his car, and she reported the alleged incident to the police on the same day.
Kennedy denied the complainant’s allegations during his bail hearing, and also denied that he gave transport to her on the morning in question.
He and a cousin of his are also charged with rape in an earlier case which emanated from an incident alleged to have taken place in Windhoek on 3 January last year. In that case, Kennedy and his cousin allegedly offered to give a 43−year−old woman transport from Otjomuise to the Windhoek city centre. However, they allegedly drove with her to an area between the Windhoek Central Hospital and the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, where they are alleged to have launched an attack on her.
A security guard in the area who heard screams from the woman summoned the police, who found Kennedy, his cousin and the woman on the scene and arrested the two men.
During their bail hearing, Kennedy denied he had raped the woman or helped his cousin to rape her.
The accused and his cousin were released on bail in an amount of N$3 000 each in early February last year after they had spent a month in custody.
Kennedy was represented by defence lawyer Boris Isaacks when his appeal against the refusal of his application for bail was argued. Deputy prosecutor general Innocentia Nyoni represented the state.-The Namibian
Tsvangirai Travel to TB Joshua Church in Nigeria.
MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai, currently struggling with bad health, is under compulsion to travel to controversial self acclaimed soothsayer TB Joshua in Nigeria.
First Lady Grace Mugabe has rubbished the Nigerian preacher saying she wonders why Zimbabweans fail to pray locally and consult their own national church leaders. But MDC-T medical health bigwigs dismiss all that, saying Tsvangirai must visit the preacher for prayers.
This comes despite a pile of evidence that TB Joshua, while doctoring false prophecies through video editing techniques, has endangered the lives of hundreds of believers and presided over the deaths of 116 people in his church backyard in 2014, one of whom was MDC politician, Greenwhich Ndanga.
Tsvangirai himself could have been killed within weeks in that building collapse whose construction was performed illegally and using substandard materials.
Fiery MDC-T MP for Matebeleland North (MDC), Dr. Ruth Labode, revealed to ZimEye.com she will increase pressure on Tsvangirai to travel to TB Joshua’s church.
When questioned over TB Joshua’s credentials, why since he claims to possess super human knowledge, he failed to detect his own church building collapse that killed 116 people two years ago, Labode was resolute labelling that disaster a small thing.
“I am not shaken on small things,” she told ZimEye.
She revealed she is actually lobbying for people to sponsor Tsvangirai so he visits the Nigerian preacher. “Yes I am wanting him to visit TB Joshua…” she said.
She continued, “Tsvangirai is a born again Christian. I would encourage; I would accompany him…” she said in the wide ranging discourse.
While a direct comment from the MDC leader on the matter was not possible at the time of writing, records showed Tsvangirai has in the past sought help from Joshua and Tsvangirai appears in one video conking his body before the controversial preacher.

Zim Spends $0,5Billion on Airtime
ZIMBABWEANS spent $560 million on prepaid airtime and $230 million to buy information and communication technologies (ICT) equipment such as phones in 2014.
According to a Zimstats ICT report released in Bulawayo on Wednesday prepaid airtime had the largest share on household ICT servicesexpenditure followed by internet charges.
The ICT Household Survey (2014) shows that during the period under study $561,893,590 was spent on prepaid airtime with internet charges totalling $42,331,150.
Repair of ICT equipment cost $12,858,546 while installations totalled $1,712,038. The report states that Zimbabweans spend an average of $658 million on ICT services annually.
The ICT Household Survey which was funded by Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe also revealed that the total household expenditure on ICT equipment such as phones, television sets, decoders and computers stood at $232 million.
Mobile cellular phones ranked high in terms of ICT expenditure on equipment totalling $90,308,577 followed by television sets with $58 million and computers with $54 million.
“Expenditure on mobile cellular telephones had the largest share of 39 percent followed by expenditure on TV sets with about 25 percent. The least share of expenditure of less than one percent was on telefax machine,” reads the report.
It shows household expenditure on equipment in rural areas was $288 million compared to $601 million in urban areas showing a clear distinction on usage and demand.
“In rural areas, the proportion of household expenditure on ICT equipment was about 29 percent compared to about 71 percent for expenditure on ICT services. In urban areas, the proportion of household expenditure on ICT equipment was about 25 percent compared to 75 percent for expenditure on ICT services,” reads the report.
Speaking at a workshop to disseminate the survey findings in Bulawayo on Wednesday, Zimstats director-general Mutasa Dzinotizei said results of the survey were key in policy making and planning.
He said the purpose of the dissemination workshop was to raise awareness on access to ICT products by households and use to individuals.-state media
Patson Dzamara Arrested
The police have arrested the missing Itai Dzamara’s brother, Patson, on charges of robbery.
Patson was this year grilled by journalists on his cosy relationship with the Happiton Bonyongwe ( Central Intelligence boss) family running beyond a year since his brother’s disappearance. He then soon afterwards staged a one man demonstration in the national sports stadium in April and then held a rushed a press conference in Harare where he released pictures of someone looking like his brother with hands tied behind the back and a bandage around the head.
He claimed that Itai was abducted by members of the Zimbabwe Military Intelligence.
The Zimbabwe National Army has since denied having anything to do with the disappearance.
National Police spokesperson Charity Charamba told the state media on Thursday that they have arrested Patson Dzamara.
“I can confirm that the he has been arrested and investigations are still in progress,” she said.
When he addressed reporters at his press conference Patson said, “it is almost 15 months since the diabolic abduction of Itai Dzamara.
“From the onset I never minced my words regarding who the perpetrators are. Never have I cowered from my position that the disappearance of Itai Dzamara is the work of Mr. Mugabe’s Zanu PF through state security agents”.
Pressure Group Confronts Mugabe Chiefs Over Food Distribution
Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| A local pressure group has strongly condemned the distribution of food aid on partisan basis by traditional leaders and Zanu PF activists.
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD) yesterday issued a strong statement calling on traditional leaders and Zanu PF officials to desist from the distribution of food in a partisan manner. Villagers have been forced to produce Zanu PF cards and they have also been forced to chant ruling party slogans in order to access food aid. Thousands of villagers across the country are facing starvation since they do not have Zanu PF cards.
COTRAD Advocacy Office, Brighton Ramusi yesterday said the politicisation of food was a flagrant violation of section 77 of the country’s constitution. “It has been brought to our attention that traditional leaders and Zanu PF officials are denying villagers who do not wield Zanu PF cards access to food aid. COTRAD categorically states that the politicisation of food has to cease forthwith. We are gravely concerned about the fact that food aid is failing to reach the intended beneficiaries since the process has been taken over by biased traditional leaders and Zanu PF activists. We have received disturbing reports from Zaka, Mwenezi and Chivi, about the distribution of food aid on partisan basis. We are moving around the villages compiling such details because we are determined to stop the politicisation of food aid,” said Ramusi.
Last week villagers in the Nerupiri area , Gutu district were barred from participating in the food for work exercise in an incident witnessed by ZimEye.com.

“Fools For Work” get ZANU PF card subscription exemption as payment for work done
In an exercise which opposition parties have tagged “Fools for Work” a ZANU PF official has told villagers in Matobo to continue working for government in the Food for Work Programme even without getting the promised food aid (reward) as they will be compensated by obtaining an exemption from paying subscriptions for their ZANU PF membership cards and other local levies raised by the party.
The Villagers in the Mbembeswane area of Matobo district who are involved in the ongoing government Food for Work programme have been promised a year’s exemption from forced ZANU PF membership subscription.
Villagers in the Mbembeswane area of Matobo claim that they were recruited by ZANU PF district officials in the province to do the food for work. As payment the villagers were to be paid with a bag of maize for work done.
However, after working for almost (15) fifteen days repairing a road in the area, the villagers have not been assured if they will be get their promised payment. Instead an unnamed ZANU PF district official has told the villagers that they will be given exemptions from paying the compulsory ZANU PF card subscriptions.
According to the villagers, ZANU PF officials responsible for the project refused to assure the villagers that they will get their bag of maize as promised.
The villagers say they approached the local councillor seeking assurance and the latter referred them to District Development Fund authorities who neither would assure them of their grain gain.
The villagers have since threatened to quit the programme unless they get assurance of payment as agreed.
Grace Likens ZAOGA Leader to President Mugabe
Turning to Zaoga leader Ezekiel Guti, Grace Mugabe said he was in many ways like her husband, President Robert Mugabe.
“When I look at you every time, you remind me of my husband…” – Grace
Report by Newsday |FIRST Lady Grace Mugabe yesterday made security agents and sound engineers run after she complained about the poor sound quality just before stammering through her prepared speech at the official opening of the ZAOGA Forward in Faith Ministries-owned Mbuya Dorcas Hospital (MDH) in Harare.
State security agents moved behind the public address system controls and started giving sound engineers instructions after Grace expressed unhappiness over the echoes coming from her microphone.
“I don’t like the microphone, it’s making echoes,” she said, sending her contingent of security officers into action.
Grace stumbled through words such as “casualty” and “indigenisation” as she read her prepared speech, but later became animated when she started speaking off the cuff.
Turning to Zaoga leader Ezekiel Guti, Grace said he was in many ways like her husband, President Robert Mugabe.
“When I look at you every time, you remind me of my husband. You are such a neat person, very well presented and a very meticulous person and you always glow, you glow because of the thoughts you carry in your heart,” she said.
Although the First Family is renowned for seeking medical attention outside Zimbabwe, after touring the medical facility, Grace said it had world-class medical equipment.
MDH, which has two wings — one for medical health care and the other for spiritual healing, a first of its kind in Zimbabwe — was mooted 50 years ago in the mind of Guti as he preached at Harare Central Hospital.
MDH opened its doors in 2012 and has a state-of-the-art laboratory, A-Grade intensive care unit, maternity ward and paediatric ward.
Health deputy minister Aldrin Musiiwa said while government had moved to accept traditional medicine, it was yet to incorporate spiritual healing into the health care system.
Grace, who arrived amid tight security, was accompanied by daughter Bona Chikore.
Also in attendance were Bona’s husband Simba Chikore, together with their child Simbanashe, who appeared in public for the first time after Bona’s recent return from Singapore, where she had gone to give birth about two months ago.
Mugabe Grandson Makes Public Debut at ZAOGA Church Function
Simbanashe, President Mugabe’s first grandson, yesterday made his maiden public appearance with his parents Bona and Simba Chikore, while accompanying First Lady Grace Mugabe at the official opening of Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Waterfalls, Harare.
Although Simbanashe did not follow the official proceedings with his parents at the high table, Zaoga Forward In Faith church co-patron Dr Eunor Guti took the platform to congratulate the First Family for the safe arrival of Simbanashe to this world.
Dr Guti said she hoped Simbanashe would grow up to become a doctor and provide his services to Mbuya Dorcas Hospital.
“I want to take opportunity of this platform to congratulate you on the safe arrival of your grandson. I know how it feels to be a grandmother.

“I hope one day he will grow up and be a doctor who will work here at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital and say that I was here before with my grandmother when I was young and I am here again to save lives,” said Dr Guti, to the applause of the gathering.
“You might take it lightly just as an ordinary talk, but it may actually be a vision,” said Dr Guti who is wife to Archbishop Professor Ezekiel Guti.
Amai Guti, who is a nurse by profession, also told the gathering that Professor Guti shared the vision of a Zaoga FIF administered hospital to her and her five colleagues years ago when she was still working as a nurse at Harare Central Hospital.
She said then, she thought she and her friends would be part of the nurses who would be working at the hospital. Fifty-nine years later, Professor Guti’s vision is fulfilled. -state media
ZIM DOLLAR RETURN: Mugabe Declares “Only Cure”
President Robert Mugabe has officially declared that he wants a Zim dollar return as soon as possible.
Describing the rejected currency as “the only cure,” Mugabe said only a Zim dollar return will fix the ailing economy.
Mugabe said the cash crisis is “temporary” and that government will press on with the introduction of bond notes, which he called a “surrogate currency,” despite opposition from the market.
The public would eventually get over their initial resistance to bond notes and accept them, Mugabe said on Thursday afternoon, in his first public remarks on the cash crisis. Those opposing the measure were doing so either for political reasons or out of ignorance, Mugabe said.
Speaking to the Zanu PF Central Committee, Mugabe conceded that the long term solution to the cash crunch would be to grow exports by reviving struggling industry and agriculture.
“As I address you, cash shortages are being felt across the board by our people, who cannot easily access their savings and earnings. You might have deposited money in the bank, but there is no money, not enough money. But this is a temporary problem which should be behind us soon, sooner rather than later,” Mugabe said.
Mugabe blamed the cash crunch mostly on the collapse of Zimbabwe’s exports.
“We have been operating under a basket of currencies belonging to foreign countries, even then the basket extended to carry just one currency, the US dollar, which comes to us only by earnings by way of exports.”
However, repeating comments by his Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa and central bank governor John Mangudya, Mugabe also blamed “crooks” that he said were coming into the country to “fish” for dollars.
“Beyond being a medium of exchange, the USD has become a commodity, by all manner of people of different nations, venturing into our country to cream off our earnings. We cannot allow the situation to continue just like that,” he said.
“Takeall the countries around us; Mozambique, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and others. They have their own currencies, but they need the dollar also for their international trade and other external activities. They come here – Chinamasa has said ‘we are now like a fishing pool’- they come from these countries to fish the dollar here.”
“They will have to deal with bond notes as a surrogate currency, surrogate to the US dollar that we hold in our reserves.”
Mugabe, however, said only growing Zimbabwe’s exports would ensure a long term solution.
“Since we do not print the dollars – they are American – unless our volume of exports increases, we are left with less and less each time,” he said.
On May 4, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe announced it would introduce bond notes, backed by a $200million Afreximbank facility, as part of measures to ease the cash shortages. The measure has met with strong resistance, with many fearing the new notes point to a return of a local currency.
Mugabe said reaction to bond coins, introduced in December 2014, had also been initially hostile, but that the coins had in the end been accepted by the market. The bond notes would eventually be accepted too, he believes.
“When it started, sure, some were suspicious and hesitant to accept it, but they easily accepted it, the first time. But the second time when it was announced we were going to the second stage of it, ah, so much criticism has come from all quarters,” Mugabe said.
“We think those who are opposed to it are really either politically doing so, or doing so out of ignorance. We know it can work, and it will work.”
RBZ has come under criticism for its handling of the crisis, and Mangudya has himself admitted that communication of the bank’s response may have been better. Mugabe said on Thursday that more information on bond notes must be made available to the public, accusing his opponents of driving a campaign of “disinformation” against bond notes.
“The issue of bond notes must be explained to our people, all the more so against virulent disinformation which is being mounted by the opposition.”
When the bond notes enter the market, Mugabe said, “they will certainly prove to be the cure to the challenges we have. But the big cure, naturally, is that we have our own currency, in due course.”
There are fears that government will print more bond notes than provided for under the Afreximbankfacility, a fear grounded in how government fueled world record hyperinflation by excessively printing Zimdollars. But Mugabe insists bond notes in circulation will match what Zimbabwe has in US dollar reserves.
“As our reserves grow, so will the population of bond notes also grow, all to ensure one-to-one correspondence between bond notes in circulation and the USD we hold in our reserves, that is the $200 million that we shall be holding in our banks.”
Mugabe admitted that the decimation of industry is at the core of the crisis, although he repeated his party’s rhetoric that this was mostly caused by economic sanctions.
“Our country, rated second to South Africa in terms of industrialisation in the region, had abandoned manufacturing for trade. There was this shrinkage of the economy due to sanctions and other factors, and industries could not operate as before. They were reduced to producing for the domestic market and not enough to enable us to export.
“We thus were no longer creating wealth, but only trading in wealth created by other economies, by way of irrational imports that were flooding, and that are still flooding, our markets. It’s more of importation, and to import we need the USD, which is now growing less and less in our vaults.”-The Source
Kasukuwere Shuts Door on Manyenyeni
Controversial Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere has shut the door on suspended Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni and clerk, James Mushore.
Signalling analysts’ predictions that he is simply working to take over the capital in preparation for the hot 2018 elections, Kasukuwere said he does not want the two anywhere near the council offices.
He said the two should wait for all due processes to be completed to decide their future at Harare City Council.
The ZANU PF commissar said he stands by council resolution that the appointment of Mushore should first be approved by the Local Government Board and government before he takes the job of Town Clerk.
Replying the state media on the fact that Mr Mushore has been reporting for duty despite the appointment being nullified, Minister Kasukuwere said there is no obligation to pay him as his appointment was rescinded.
Kasukuwere said Councillor Manyenyeni has also been suspended pending the inquiry into companies registered under Sunshine Group that have been contracted to render services to the City of Harare.
He said Manyenyeni has to come out clean on the audit ordered by the Auditor-General before he gets back his job.
MNANGAGWA TAKING OVER: Mugabe Threatens Gukurahundi on War Vets
President Robert Mugabe has threatened a repeat Gukurahundi on war veterans who are demanding that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa instead of his wife, should replace him.
Addressing the 102nd session of the Zanu PF central committee at the party headquarters in Harare this Thursday, Mugabe said “Dissident activities cannot be allowed; it ended in December 1987 when Cde Joshua Nkomo and I put our hands together and our hearts together to say never again shall we allow this to happen.”
“The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans was formed to cater for the welfare of our veterans and not to champion the struggle for political change, not to be the boss of the party and never to be the bully of the party, nor the entity to make the choices on who should be and who should not lead; never ever,” said Mugabe.
He added, “We the experienced leaders say no to war veterans doing this, it’s not your function, it’s not your business to talk a lot on who shall succeed the President.”
“The dissidents tried it, they were war veterans and you know what happened. Lots of trouble, lots of fighting, lots of suffering of cause to our people, and these dissents activities cannot be allowed.
“Is it the case that we see another rise of dissident activity?”
Mugabe went on: “War veterans must know that it is the politics that leads the gun not vice versa as the war veterans are not bosses of the party.
“War veterans are trained cadres who must be disciplined and know the rules of the party to be followed not to decide to appoint as a successor without elections or the people deciding. This is the way dissidents behave.”
He said it is unfair for the war veterans platform to be used to attack people in leadership and to sway the party direction to the war veterans preferred positions and threatening bloodshed if their preferences are not fulfilled. War vets have said they back VP Mnangagwa to take over from Mugabe.
He urged them to respect those appointed by leaders saying the party constitution should be adhered to.
The central committee meeting is the second such this year out of four that are required every year.
Commenting on the cash crisis, the President said bond coins are here to stay until the country has enough reserves to have its own currency.
Mugabe said the bond notes are being introduced to safeguard the few United States dollars that are being generated by the low exports that Zimbabwe is generating.
The issue of the liquidity crunch biting Zimbabwe as a result of externalisation and cash hoarding was under the spotlight at the central committee meeting.
Mugabe, quoted by the state media stressed the need for the monetary authorities that include the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the central bank to explain to the public measures being taken to rectify the situation.
On food availability, the President explained that he will soon undertake provincial visits with the aim of assessing areas where food production projects can be stepped up to ensure food security.
He said the little water available should be used to produce food for households and for exports in order to revive industries.
He said while waiting for the projects to take off, food relief should be distributed to every needy household without discrimination based on party lines.
Man Kills Mom For Failing To Serve Food
Terrence Mawawa, Zvishavane| A Zvishavane man stunned all and sundry when he killed his mother following an argument over food.
Hardlife Mukwari(25)murdered his mother, Juliet Nhokwara, after accusing her of failing to give him food in time.
Mukwari appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate, Peter Madiba last week, facing murder charges. Mukwari hit his mother with a pestle several times on the head and left arm, accusing her of failing to give him food.
On May 23 in Hove village, Mukwari went to his mother’s house and demanded food saying he was hungry. His mother could not give him food since she had already washed the plates. She then went to wash her feet at the back of the house.
Incensed by his mother’s response, Mukwari took a pestle and followed her where she was cleaning her feet and struck her several times. She collapsed on the spot.
Nhokwara’s severely battered body was discovered by passersby who tried to resuscitate her and Mukwari admitted to killing her.
Local villagers then took Mukwari to Zvishavane Police Station where he was immediately arrested.
The magistrate has since ordered doctors to examine Mukwari’s mental condition. The was briefly adjourned to allow the medical doctors to prepare a comprehensive report.
Shocked villagers said the entire community has been shaken by the tragic incident.
Baptism Victims Drowned, Postmortem Says
Post-mortem results for the six children who died following an early morning baptism session in a stream by a self-styled prophetess in Sadza, Mashonaland East Province on Monday have revealed that they drowned.
Chief national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed yesterday. “Post-mortem was conducted and the results showed that they died as a result of asphyxia due to drowning,” she said.
The tragedy occurred at Mutorahuku Stream in Muriwo Village under Chief Neshangwe at around 5am.
The victims — two boys and four girls — have been identified as Tafadzwa Dzvuke (5), Tinotenda Dzuke (3), Shamiso Pfumbidza (4), Patience Pfumbidza (9), Blessed Muvadi (1) and Emmanuel Dzvuke (7).
Two suspects — Maud Dzvuke (30) and Jane Ruvinga (34) have since been arrested in connection with the case.
On Tuesday at around 5am, Dzvuke and Ruvinga took the nine juveniles for baptism at the stream.
During the baptism, one of the juveniles aged four years ran away from the stream and met one Tony Kondo (17) who noticed that she was shivering due to coldness.
The juvenile narrated the matter to Kondo who then rushed to the stream to check on other juveniles.
Kondo went to the scene and he found the six juveniles frothing from the mouth.
After realising the condition of the children, the self-styled prophetess started speaking in tongues as if she was possessed and ordered Kondo to ferry the juveniles to her shrine for prayers.
The six juveniles died at the shrine while the other two were ferried to Sadza District hospital where they were admitted in a serious condition.
Dzvuke and Ruvinga fled the scene, but they were later arrested. They will face culpable homicide charges.
Kereke Gets backing from Mum In Law
Zanu-PF Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke’s mother-in-law whose grandchildren were allegedly sexually abused by the legislator, yesterday stood by her son-in-law and exonerated him from the charges.
Kereke is facing allegations of raping his wife’s 13-year-old niece in 2010 and indecently assaulting her sister at one of his houses in Vainona.
His mother-in-law Anna Muswapadare, a member of the Johane Masowe Wechishanu maintained that the legislator was innocent adding that her grandchildren were liars.
She said the victims are her son’s children who is based in the United States. She, however, clarified that Richard Farai Muswapadare, the children’s father was not her biological son, but a stepson.
In her evidence while being led by Kereke’s lawyer Mr Erum Mutandiro, Anna accused her grandchildren of being liars who were framing charges against her son-in-law.
“One of the alleged victims, said she was raped by the accused person on August 21 at around 3am after she had been awakened by your daughter who is accused’s wife to babysit her child, what would be your comment,” Mr Mutandiro asked.
In response Anna said: “It is a total lie. She was never raped because my son-in-law was not in Vainona on that day,” she said.
“Another thing, on that day she has mentioned, my daughter was still at the hospital after having given birth. So, which baby was she baby-sitting?” she said.
She added that on the day in question, by 3am she was already up and if her granddaughter was raped she could have heard her screams.
“Like I said before, I am a member of the Johane Masowe Wechishanu and everyday I do my morning prayers at 3am. So to say that she was raped at 3am, is a lie,” she said.
When the rape victim testified, she told the court that after the sexual abuse, she rushed to her bedroom while bleeding and locked herself from inside before washing her clothes and blankets which had been spoiled by blood.
Mr Mutandiro asked Anna to comment on the statement and she said: “I will maintain that she is a liar because to start with, I shared the bedroom with my grandchildren and there was no key hence she could not have locked the door.”
“She also did not wash any blankets because there were no soiled blankets. She did not leave the room during the night on that day,” she said.
During cross-examination private prosecutor Mr Charles Warara accused Anna of testifying against her “grandchildren” because they were not from her biological son.
He also submitted that Anna gave two conflicting statements to the police. Anna said that her first statement was recorded on November 10, 2010 and the second one was recorded a week later.
Mr Warara asked Anna why she did not mention that the victim’s father was her stepson in her statements.
“In the first statement you purported as if Richard was your biological son, why did you not tell the truth?
“You are biased because you do not have any relationship with the victim’s father,” Mr Warara said.
Anna confirmed that she was not in good books with her stepson whom she accused of neglecting his family after leaving the country many years ago. She said there was no communication between her and Richard.
Mr Warara discredited Anna’s evidence saying it was fabricated. He also accused her of being coached in a bid to exonerate Kereke. The trial continues today. -state media
Mahofa Blocks Mugabe AU Cattle Donations
Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| A few months after describing the First Lady Grace Mugabe as too junior to lead the nation, Masvingo State Minister Shuvai Ben Mahofa has pulled yet another shocker by blocking donations towards President Robert Mugabe’s AU cattle pledge.
The outspoken policitian who nearly died following a suspected food poisoning incident last year, has shot down an appeal by Zanu PF provincial secretary, Ailes Baloyi, to the province to donate cattle towards Mugabe’s pledge to the AU.
Mugabe made a pledge to donate 300 cattle to the AU when he was still at the helm of the continental body. Mugabe wants the beasts not to come from his farms, but from party faithfuls.
Mahofa dismissed the suggestion made by Baloyi who said the party should start getting the cattle from the province. Baloyi gestured at the at a Provincial Co-ordinating meeting held at Masvingo Polytechnic on Saturday.
But Mahofa said Masvingo Province did not have the capacity to donate the cattle because the area has been savaged by drought. “The people of Masvingo do not have food so we cannot move around asking for the said donations. The people of Masvingo are hungry as a result of drought that hit the province.
On the contrary, the people of Masvingo are in dire need of food aid,” Mahofa added.
Party insiders revealed at the meeting there are only 169 out of the targeted 300 cattle -gathered so far and Mugabe has tasked Kadoma business tycoon Jimayi Muduvuri to spearhead the exercise countrywide.
The I69 cattle were gathered from the three Mashonaland provinces, it has emerged.
Mujuru Party Implodes… in months
Zanu PF has apparently ratcheted up its “political programme” to frustrate and cause the implosion of former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s fledgling Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party.
Reliable sources within the ruling party claimed to the Daily News that chaotic scenes around an alleged leadership contest, the many recent acts of intimidation and thuggery targeted at ZPF supporters as well as officials were all “well-orchestrated”.
“I can tell you that before 2018 People First will be history. Many of the people in that party have skeletons in their closets and just watch this space to see what will happen to them,” one of the sources said.
Another insider said the current Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) drive was also meant to “rattle” some ZPF officials since they were once in government and several key parastatals.
“As you may know, Mujuru herself has a file hanging over her head, detailing her transgressions. There is gnashing of teeth in that little party,” the Zanu PF bigwig said.
This latter claim tallied with what Mujuru herself said soon after launching her party in February, when she alleged that Mugabe had a file on each of his ministers, which kept them on a string like “puppets”.
And as the charade unfolds, ZPF deputy spokesperson Kudzai Mbudzi confirmed that senior officials were under the gun.
“That is lamentable because we think that corruption should be dealt with not as a tool to fix political opponents. Zimbabweans think that if there is really the political will to genuinely deal with the scourge of corruption, the blitz should star with (President Robert) Mugabe himself who should justify his current economic might that has seen him establish the businesses he owns,” he said.
The ex-senior army officer also admitted that Zanu PF, through State security agents, had infiltrated ZPF.
“We know that Zanu PF has no capacity to infiltrate us on its own but . . . are doing so through the security system. Members of the security sector must be warned, however, that the man they are protecting is in the political departure lounge and they will have to answer for their crimes come 2018,” Mbudzi warned.
Academic and researcher Pedzisai Ruhanya said both the Movement for Democratic Change and ZPF must be wary of infiltration.
He said the two parties must realise that a “broad coalition of meaningful political parties is the way to go”, but warned that such a structure without addressing institutional reforms cannot defeat Zanu PF.
“They (MDC and ZPF) must also do their research because they will be elements, particularly in MDC and People First, who will work day and night to make sure that MDC and PF and the general meaningful parties are not united. It is not in the interests of Zanu PF for such a coalition,” he said.
“They will be people who will be vehement and virulent in opposing a coalition because they will be doing it for Zanu PF and there are some who are doing it for positions within those parties. Zanu PF will invest through the State security to kill prospects of unity between the MDC and PF,” Ruhanya said.-Daily News
Lumumba Caught On New Video with Older Woman | BREAKING NEWS
Former ZANU PF Central Committee member, Acie Lumumba has been caught in a new video with another acquaintance, an older woman nearly twice his age.
Lumumba, fresh from an embarrassing sex video with an unnamed young woman, has been caught in another gaffe with a 48 year old UK based female, Jane Gombingo.
The woman who over a two day period appeared perpetually drunk was quick to defend herself saying on video that Lumumba is only her son. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW….
The two appeared drunk on camera on a flight to Victoria Falls as they swayed by each other while furthermore racially insulting Zambian nationals. They claim that they are traveling to a funeral. But the following day they are found instead holed up at a secret location in a Vic Falls hotel.
The development has irked many Zimbabweans with some saying ZANU PF was right to eject Lumumba from his sub-ministerial job in April.
“After destroying that girl’s life, he did not care to apologise to the young woman, and now he within days comes out in another shocking video, surely Patrick Zhuwao was right to humble this idiot,” lashed out one Zimba on Thursday.
Tsvangirai Dead End
Fingaz – URBAN councils under the dominion of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) are headed for more chaos as the ruling ZANU-PF government escalates its agenda to place them under its functionaries ahead of make-or-break general elections in 2018.
The Financial Gazette can report that between now and the 2018 plebiscite, city fathers in MDC-T dominated municipalities essentially have only two options open to them – either to play ball or fall by the wayside.
Either way, it is a zero-sum game for Morgan Tsvangirai’s party, which has been on the back foot ever since it came close to gaining power in 2008, when ZANU-PF lost its majority in Parliament to the MDC-T for the first time since independence.
ZANU-PF has found a wily enforcer in the form of Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere, whose other hat is that of national political commissar for the ruling party.
As the party’s head of the commissariat, Kasukuwere’s performance objectives include aiding and abetting ZANU-PF’s power-retention strategies by mobilising grassroots support at the polls.
In order to achieve the party’s objectives, he is using his other hat as Local Government Minister to ensure that none amongst MDC-T functionaries stand in his way.
Those who dare to frustrate his moves will get their marching orders, creating room for ruling party apparatchiks who will go along with him.On top of ZANU-PF’s agenda is the fulfilment of 2013 election promises, as captured in the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset) blueprint.
One of Zim-Asset’s objectives is to rollout affordable housing for home seekers across the country.
Already, ZANU-PF has promised to make available land in urban centres to clear the backlog on the housing waiting list which stands at over two million people.
Tied to that, the party is also hoping to roll out vending stalls for informal traders and small to medium size enterprises to absorb thousands of people on the job market.
Through Zim-Asset, ZANU-PF is looking at creating 2,2 million jobs.
MDC-T-run councils are being viewed as an impediment to the achievement of these and other objectives.
So far, the country’s largest opposition party has been exploiting the new Constitution, which has devolved powers to councils, to sidetrack the Local Government Minister.
To dribble his way past the new charter, Kasukuwere is in the process of amending the Urban Councils Act (UCA) to support his agenda.
With ZANU-PF enjoying a clear majority in the National Assembly, the courts might soon offer no sanctuary for the MDC-T, hence assertions that its officials might soon be at the mercy of Kasukuwere.
Legal and parliamentary watchdog, Veritas, this week said Kasukuwere’s law amendment manoeuvres could best be deemed as unconstitutional.
“It is apparent…that the Bill is unsatisfactory, and quite probably unconstitutional, in several respects,” said Veritas.
Ever since the Constitution came into operation three years ago, the country has been waiting for the Rural District Councils Act (RDC Act) and the UCA, among other statutes, to be amended so as to devolve powers to local authorities and accord them the independence they are entitled to under Chapter 14 of the Constitution.
Veritas said the Local Government Laws Amendment Bill, which government gazetted on May 9, should have provided for this, but it didn’t.
“All it does is to amend the two Acts to allow for the setting up of a tribunal to deal with the removal from office of mayors and councillors,” argued Veritas.
“Local authorities need oversight from the central government, because both in this country and elsewhere some of them have proved to be incompetent, extravagant and corrupt. Nonetheless, the powers given to the Minister under the UCA and the RDC Act are excessive and unconstitutional. The Local Government Laws Amendment Bill does nothing whatsoever to remove or even limit the Minister’s powers.”
Ever since his appointment last year, Kasukuwere has set the cat among the pigeons by stoking fires in Gweru, Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Chitungwiza and Gwanda.
By 2018, Kasukuwere is set to create a record number of commission-run councils in the country’s history if his will prevails.
Despite outcries over his machinations, he has thrown caution to the wind, at times running afoul of the country’s Constitution.
Soon after getting into office, the combative minister announced that he would clean up all the local authorities where corruption and poor service delivery had become the order of the day.
While his mission appeared noble, the grand plan has been to destroy the MDC-T’s influence in its urban strongholds and re-establishing ZANU-PF control through the back door.
Gweru is already being run by a commission after its mayor and 16 councillors were sent packing over allegations of corruption.
Increasingly, Harare is slipping out of the MDC-T’s control.
Harare mayor, Bernard Manyenyeni was suspended on Tuesday after returning from yet another suspension for allegedly violating the UCA by appointing James Mushore as town clerk without first seeking approval from the Ministry and the Local Government Board.
Tuesday’s suspension stemmed from fresh allegations of failure to cause an audit of the city’s EasiPark and City Parking subsidiaries following alleged corruption in the entities.
Kasukuwere is also moving to shake-things-up in Gwanda where he is trying to reverse the appointment of Hlupho Mhlanga as town secretary.
His efforts have, however, suffered a temporary setback after Mhlanga successfully appealed to the Bulawayo High Court to strike down a directive he had issued in which he ordered the Gwanda municipality to re-advertise his post.
In Bulawayo, city fathers are awaiting with bated breath the release of findings of a seven-member investigative team dispatched by Kasukuwere earlier this month to establish if there was any wrongdoing in the allocation of stands and prime land to councillors.
The Local Government Minister has also dispatched chartered accountants, Ernst and Young to audit Bulawayo’s accounts for 2013 and 2014.
Any indications from both findings that may suggest corruption on the part of the city fathers, is likely to give Kasukuwere a perfect excuse for him to give Bulawayo mayor, Martin Moyo, and all the councillors marching orders.
The removal of Moyo would mean that the country’s two largest cities of Harare and Bulawayo might for the first time run concurrently without mayors, setting the ideal stage for ZANU-PF to regain control of the cities, which the party lost in 2000. – Financial Gazette
Dzamara Protesters Arrested – REPORT
A report claims ZRP cops have arrested civil and political rights activists currently staging a 16 day and night protest demanding for the restoration of the rule of law and the economy in Africa Unity Square.
Those who were reportedly arrested and are said to be detained at Harare central police station are Itai Dzamara’s young brother Patson, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Pride Mkono , Oliver Chikumba, and Tatenda Mombeyarara .
Linda Masarira, the spokesperson of the coalition of youth organisations staging the historic demonstration where they are also demanding for the safe return of the abducted human rights activist Itai Dzamara, said that her male counterparts were nabbed in the early hours of Thursday after the police had earlier attempted to disperse them.
“At exactly 23:30 pm three police officers tried to disperse us and we told them they had no constitutional right to disperse us. After 20minutes of heated argument with the police officers they walked away,” said Masarira.
“At exactly midnight two women showed up walking towards us from the corner Third Street and Jason Moyo Avenue and as they approached us I noticed that they were wearing the same hats black and white striped hats, carrying Tshangani bags. They passed us and stopped 10m away and inquired where 4th street was purporting to have disembarked a Kombi from Murehwa. I told them to go where they were going as we were aware of their intentions,” she said.
Masarira said the women who had asked them the directions were the same who claimed that they had been robbed by her colleagues, who had not even moved from “our gathering”.
“The two women came back running screaming mbavha mbavha (thieves thieves). We just watched them as they ran past us. Instead of going straight to Jason Moyo they cut across the park into the dark and we saw three policemen jumping from the hedge. The women accused Patson Dzamara and Makomborero Haruzivishe as the men who followed them and took their filthy, torn Tshangani bags,”she narrated.
She said “we” see this as a ploy by the state security agents to frustrate “our” demonstration.
“We are not stupid. We will not be abused. We are sick and tired of a partisan police force that serves the interest of ZANU PF. These stage managed shows show that this government has ran out of ideas,” she said.

Wicknell In Jail, AFCON FLOP | OPINION
Dear Editor
The last time the warriors qualified for the AFCON finals there was no I-phone
and Sir Wicknel was behind bars.
Mushika shika did not exist and Mai Mujuru was still Vice-President, one needed a visa to travel to South Africa.
Pentecostal churches UFIC and PHD did not exist, and the best thing on T.V was Studio 263.
English professional footballer Marcus Rashford was 9 years old and Jah Prayzah was still in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe.
And of cause zvihuta were still in their natural home in the bush – Wicknell Chivayo has surely brought with him many troubles to our ailing nation!
Dzamaras Want To Kill Me
Women’s rights and political activist, Lynnette Mudehwe, has raised alarm that she fears for her life, being a target of ‘fellow comrades,’ state agents -the Patson Dzamara crew.
Amid reports that controversial missing Itai Dzamara’s brother, Patson has seized control of proceedings of the #16DaysOccupation in Harare, Mudehwe told ZimEye.com that she has been forced into a hide-out.
She said “the occupation will continue but for security reasons,” she is fleeing serious threats to harm her.
She said, “whilst l am prepared to die for the love of Zimbabwe, it is reckless to be in a place where both the state and fellow comrades can harm you.”
Mudehwe further questioned the circumstances under which her phone was stolen, and whatsapp messages leaked to the media, “On Friday night, my phone was stolen. We were sleeping as occupants and no one strange was amongst us. Who then took the phones and who leaked the conversations?,” she said.
Further alleged the outspoken activist, “there have been power struggles starting from day three of the occupation. There were manipulations to hijack the initiative and deface and re-brand it.”
The campaign which started a few days ago has been rocked by infighting, with the controversial Dzamara announcing to the public that Mudehwe is no longer part of the occupation.
“In the course of this have arisen internal issues of discipline which we have now dealt with. As a result we wish to make it clear that one Lynette Tendayi Mudehwe is no longer part of the occupation,” announced Dzamara.

SHOCKER:President Seeks Medical Treatment In UK
President Robert Mugabe’s foreign health trips have been eclipsed.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his promise to end medical tourism by seeking treatment for a mere ear infection in the U.K.
A former president of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Osahon Enabulelesaid in an open letter to the president that about $1 billion was spent funding foreign medical trips in 2013, mostly for Nigerian public officials.
Buhari traveled to London on Monday for a 10-day holiday, during which he will see an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist for treatment of a persistent ear infection.
The president has cancelled several high-profile engagements in recent months, including a planned trip to the restive Niger Delta region to launch a clean-up operation in Ogoniland, a community affected by multiple oil spills in recent years.
The 73-year-old leader, who was elected in March 2015 on an anti-corruption ticket, said in a speech to the NMA in April that the government would cut back spending on sending public officials abroad for treatment when there was evidence of expertise in Nigeria.
The office of the Nigerian presidency said Buhari travelled to London after being evaluated by his personal physician and an ENT specialist in the capital Abuja.
Enabulele, who is also the vice-president of the Commonwealth Medical Association, said it was a “national shame” that Buhari was seeking treatment in London, despite the presence of more than 250 ENT specialists in Nigeria and a National Ear Center in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria.
Enabulele stated that the U.K. had some 3,000 Nigerian-trained doctors, most of whom had emigrated due to the Nigerian government’s failure to address problems in the West African country’s health service.
Enabulele even stated that he himself had received treatment from an ENT specialist in Nigeria in April “in line with my patriotic commitment to the Nigerian dream” and said he believed that Nigerian physicians “are skilled enough, and with the right equipment in place can handle any complicated ENT problem in Nigeria.” – Radiovop/Agencies
CIO, ZRP Cop Bludgeons Wife
A Gwanda based ZRP cop currently in trouble for abusing vendors, has fallen into a court “dead end” after reports were made that he allegedly assaulted his wife.
Pictures seen by ZimEye.com strongly suggest that Tinashe Gono (24) bludgeoned his wife in an inhuman way.
Tinashe Gono and Takura Mataruse (28) are already under serious charges of extorting vendors. They were allegedly caught in the act demanding so called “protection taxes” from Gwanda vendors. ZimEye.com has previously exposed other accomplices (pictured) at markets in Harare.
The two, Gono and Mataruse are up for trial on the 11th July for that charge.
In the pile of charges, Gono was yesterday hauled before the court this time on charges of illegal possession of mbanje.
ZimEye.com is reliably informed that a Gono relative leaked information to the police leading to the man being found with mbanje uproots in his house.
The case continues…
