Internet Restored In The Country But No Social Media
By Paul Nyathi|Government has restored internet service in the country but only just.
Users in the country are complaining of experiencing very slow connectivity speed with some websites completely failing to be accessed.
A message circulated by mobile phone service provider Econet wireless on Thursday morning indicates that government has opened up the internet but ordered for strict restriction of social media platforms.
“Dear valued customers, please be advised that the internet is back online under a directive that Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter will remain closed until further notice. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted,” said the message from Econet.
Government completely disabled internet and social media sites in the country as from early hours on Tuesday morning until late evening on Wednesday.
Some smaller towns and remote areas however still claim that they have not been having internet service even after the service was restored.
The American Senate on Wednesday ordered Zimbabwe to restore full internet access to the country.
Zimbabwe has been begging the US to lift sanctions on the country to which the US has set several conditions that need to be met before the sanctions are lifted. One of the conditions is the respect of human rights.
The Internet disconnection could dent the negotiations.
Information Deputy Minister Energy Mutodi shocked the nation when he told state television that government had not disconnected the internet but it was congesting due to huge interests in the citizen protests that were going on in the country.

Some of the people searching for him used a recorded video which shows the man being roughed up by police officers while in an unnamed hotel. ZimEye is investigating.
Zvorwadza, together with the now arrested #ThisFlag pastor Evan Mawarire were at one time frontline campaigners for Emmerson Mnangagwa’s so called new dispensation.
At the time of going to print, telephone calls to the man’s cellphone were failing.

Surviving Mvuma Fugitive Prisoner Captured
Police have arrested one of the three hard-core criminals who escaped after they allegedly assaulted prison officers while in transit, before jumping off a moving prison truck.
Timothy Muhari (32), who was injured after jumping off the moving prison truck, was found in a bush a few metres from where they jumped off.
Muhari and his two accomplices, Boniface Utete (39) and Nyashadzashe Hove (35) (both late), allegedly beat up prison warders who were guarding them while on their way to Bulawayo, before jumping off the truck just before the toll gate along the Mvuma-Gweru Road about two weeks ago.
ZPCS Midlands spokesperson Chief Correctional Officer Jere Ruzive said Utete died on the spot, while Hove died in hospital last week after succumbing to wounds sustained during the escape attempt.
He said Muhari was found in the bush with multiple injuries, while trying to free himself from handcuffs.
“He looked weary and was about to starve, but when they asked him, he said he was living on wild fruits and never attempted to ask for food from the villages for fear they would report him,” said Mr Ruzive.
“He was badly injured. It seems he was trying to remove the cuffs, but he injured himself in the process.”
Mr Ruzive said Munhari, who is facing armed robbery charges, was now recovering in hospital under guard.
“He will be facing charges of escaping from lawful detention,” he said.
“He has already been convicted of armed robbery and was due to be released in 2052.”

Kirsty Coventry Resigning? NOT AT ALL.
By Paul Nyathi|YOUTH, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Kirsty Leigh Coventry has denied media reports that she was resigning as government Minister in protest against the government’s handling of protests that occurred across Zimbabwe on Monday.
“It’s fake news,” she said.
Besides being minister, Coventry is a member of the ANOCA Athlete’s Commission, Vice-President of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, provides coaching and swimming lessons at her non-profit organization, the Kirsty Coventry Academy, and has recently launched a program for low-income and underserved areas – HEROES: Empowering children through sport.
Coventry won gold medals in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and also has four silvers and a bronze, the most Olympic medals by an African athlete. She shares the record of most individual medals by a female swimmer at the Olympics with Krisztina Egerszegi of Hungary.
A sensational social media message has been circulating since Wednesday morning alleging that Kirsty Coventry has resigned after government used state machinery to kill over ten people in a citizens protests that rocked Zimbabwe in the past three days.
The message quoted her claiming there is a statement by her which says so. It read:

ZimEye telephoned Coventry several times between 8am and 12 noon Thursday. Although her voice was inaudible, ZimEye established that there was no such statement from or by her saying that she has resigned. A source told ZimEye that Coventry was however under public pressure to resign following the several shootings of civilians by the military since Monday this week. Evan Mawarire Charged With Treason

ThisFlag leader Pastor Evan Mawarire has been charged with Subverting a constitutional government (treason).
He was charged under section 22 of the Criminal Law Act and is facing up to 20 years in prison.
The Act says: Any person who, whether inside or outside Zimbabwe (a) organises or sets up, or advocates, urges or suggests the organisation or setting up of, any group or body with a view to that group or body (i) overthrowing or attempting to overthrow the Government by unconstitutional means; or (ii) taking over or attempting to take over the Government by unconstitutional means or usurping the functions of the Government; or (iii) coercing or attempting to coerce the Government; or (b) supports or assists any group or body in doing or attempting to do any of the things described in subparagraph (i), (ii) or (iii) of paragraph (a); shall be guilty of subverting constitutional government and liable to imprisonment for a period not exceeding twenty years without the option of a fine.
Overwhelming Evidence That ZANU PF Executed The Violence And Burning During Protests
By Paul Nyathi|ZANU PF youth leaders were allegedly behind acts of violence and arson, including the burning of a Zupco bus in Harare on Monday during countrywide protests against fuel price increases, court papers showed.
Benson Bhobho, Zanu PF youth league chairperson for ward 40 in Whitecliff, was yesterday charged with public violence together with members of his executive, Charles Bengeza, Shylock Chihuri, Emmanuel Chari, Cassim Muzhingi, Noleen and Rumbidzai Dulana after their arrest in connection with the burning of the Zupco bus that was heading to Harare.
According to court papers, Bhobho (35) teamed up with his executive and other accomplices, who are still at large, around mid-morning on Monday, and proceeded to Whitehouse shopping centre along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway, where they barricaded the highway with boulders, burning tyres and throwing missiles at motorists.
“Pursuant to their plan, the accused stopped a Zupco bus which was proceeding to Harare and ordered the bus crew and all passengers to disembark.
Emmanuel Chari drove the bus (off) the road and parked it about 40 metres (away), where he and his colleagues set it on fire,” the court papers read.
This came as the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) on Monday called for a nationwide stayaway to push government to reverse recent fuel price hikes as well as deal with the deepening economic crisis.
But the stayaway turned violent, with government accusing the opposition of orchestrating the mayhem, which resulted in about eight civilian deaths, the death of a police officer and numerous injuries, including the destruction of public assets.
Court papers, however, indicate that the Zanu PF youth leadership, led the mob that burnt the Zupco bus along the Bulawayo-Harare Highway and also chased away workers at a shop owned by Chegutu East legislator Webster Shamu (Zanu PF).
“The accused looted various groceries from the shop and set ablaze a Mitsubishi pick-up truck which was parked at the service station, leaving it to burn to ashes,” the papers stated.
Police recovered some of the alleged stolen items from the Zanu PF youth leaders, among them Mazoe cordials, fire extinguishers and ropes.
Meanwhile, MDC national organising secretary Amos Chibaya claims that he saw senior ZANU PF members executing violence during the protests.
“Here in Gweru, I saw very senior Zanu PF officials and activists protesting as well. I am the organising secretary of MDC and all programmes come from my office. I never sanctioned these protests at all; that is why I am here at home. Our own programmes will come,” Chibaya said.
“The government must simply listen to the message being delivered to it by its people instead of laying blame on the MDC. We are saddened by the people who have already been shot and killed by the State security agents. The regime has been cornered. It’s a complete humiliation for the so-called new republic.
“The MDC is a peaceful party, that is why no retribution on people who have stolen elections has been witnessed. No matter how far and extreme the party has been stretched, it has remained calm. We never instructed our supporters to be violent at all. However, the citizens are just angry with the failed regime.”
Chibaya said he did not activate the so-called Vanguard or the Democratic Resistance Committee as claimed by State security minister Owen Ncube.
“I am not aware of any co-ordination for these protests. What is clear is the long-suffering of Zimbabweans. President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa must address the burning nation and end his shameless globetrotting,” he said.
8 ZANU PF Youth In Court For Burning Down ZUPCO Bus During Protests
A HARARE magistrate was yesterday accused of not following procedure and frustrating lawyers who had volunteered to represent eight Zanu PF youths accused of burning a Zupco bus and looting property during a nationwide stayaway called by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions to protest against theagainst the hiking of fuel prices.
The Zanu PF youth league chairperson for ward 40 in Whitecliff, together with seven other party activists, appeared before magistrate Elijah Makomo on Tuesday facing charges of public violence, and their trial commenced immediately without being served with court papers.
Makomo on Tuesday presided over the initial appearance and immediately the matter went to trial before the same magistrate until 8pm when he remanded them in custody for continuation of proceedings. Yesterday, human rights lawyers, Gift Mutisi and Simon Simango showed up to offer legal representation for free to the accused, but the State and the magistrate allegedly refused to give the lawyers time to receive instructions from the accused as well as offer them time to go through the court record as is the norm.
The human rights lawyers unsuccessfully filed an application to have Makomo recuse himself from presiding over the matter, saying he had showed partiality in the manner he was handling the trial.
“We managed to get State papers at exactly 7am. When the trial commenced, they had not been furnished with State papers as required by the Constitution. The relevance of State papers is to inform the accused person and for him to sufficiently prepare for his defence but that did not happen. Under the circumstances, which the matter started in the full glare of the magistrate, the accused no longer feel comfortable with the magistrate,” Simango said.
“We do believe the furnishing of court papers to the accused persons is the backbone to a fair trial. One cannot be tried without State papers and this was done in the full glare of the magistrate. The accused persons are saying the honourable court is biased. The accused persons need protection from the court.”

“Accusing MDC Of Violence Shows Zimbabwe Is Led By a Gvnt That Is Out Of Order”
By Leornard Koni| The behaviour of the Zimbabwe’s government to accuse the opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance for the outbreak of violence in the country is out of order.
The mayhem which occurred in Harare and Bulawayo is the result of a clueless government which cannot incline an ear to the grievances of the people who have been on the brunt of suffering and are forced to face brutal response from a ruthless security force. The army should confine itself to boarders.
What is happening in Zimbabwe right now is human cruelty, barbaric, ungodly and unethical. The whole government and its armed forces are cruel criminals who deserve to be arrested and tried before a court.
May the Almighty God intervene and save us from this ruthless government which has caused a lot of people suffering.
It’s a shame the second republic is proving to be worse than all ever imagined.
Imagine during the last three days business people lost valuable money as they could not access the internet. People resorted to dictating a document to their respective clients in Zimbabwe via the phone. In this era of technology sure such kind of behaviour exhibited by the state is gross human rights abuse. There was no email service.
Even the tourism sector was heavily affected and that means tourists had to think twice or alternatively choose another country to visit. Is Zimbabwe really open for business?
The root cause of all these problem are stemming from the issue of legitimacy where an election was stolen.
Zanu PF is now using the state machinery to silence the opposition and make them suffer in anguish. It has been reported that about 9 people where shot dead and a number of people injured.
We don’t know the atrocities committed during the time when there was Internet blackout and people could not communicate.
We call for the muscle of South Africa and Sadc to quickly call Zanu PF & MDC -Alliance to a negotiating table with a view of forming a transitional government which will lead to a free and fair election with necessary reforms in place.
I doubt very much whether they will take care or solve the political impasse currently prevailing. This is the same regional board which endorsed Mnangagwa’s leadership.
The torture, harassing , beatings and arbitraly arresting members of the opposition will not solve and fix the ailing economy. In a country where people are wallowing in poverty the President charters a very expensive plane to Russia.
The youths are unemployed , no industries are functioning at full throttle and there are no signs that the economy will bounce back any time soon.
The revival of our economy does not need Zanu PF alone. It has been proved that the revolutionary party is clueless and cannot go it alone. Our economy is a mess.
It is also embarrassing that the court papers have also confirmed that youth leaders from Zanu PF were allegedly behind acts of violence and arson, including the burning of a Zupco bus in Harare on Monday during these countrywide protests against fuel price increases. It also confirms that what is happening in the country is not affecting one side of a political party but everybody.
Neither the closure of Internet nor killing will ever solve this challenge. It is actually gross abuse of democracy and surprisingly the President posted his message on his Facebook account when the whole country has been blackened out.
How would he expect people to read his thoughts when the majority could not access Internet. The junta government has failed and no amount of intimidation will silence the people when the time is ripe. Mnangagwa came from a disputed election and from that time he has been facing a barrage of challenges in running the country.
The Mnangagwa’s government has taken it too far and is no differrent to the former Robert Mugabe’s government.
The Zimbabwean crisis needs a quick response and Sadc must not keep quiet and fold their hands. No need for silent diplomacy. We condemn the security forces heavy handedness on protesting unarmed civilians. We stand with the people of Zimbabwe in demanding their democratic rights of expressing their needs.
The door to door visits by the police and the army where they were beating up people and shoving them cannot be tolerated. It has been reported that a number of people got injured and quickly need medical attention. The question remains- Will President Emmerson Mnangagwa be forced again to set up a Commission of Enquiry?

Government Condemned For Using Live Ammunition On Unarmed Protesters
THE Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) yesterday urged the government to stop using State security agents to indiscriminately shoot at protesting civilians.
ZCC said demonstrating was a constitutional right and pleaded with the security agents to stop shooting civilians.
The statement came after at least eight people were reportedly shot dead between Monday and yesterday by police in attempts to quell protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent decision to hike fuel prices by over 150%.
Over 30 people have also been treated for injuries, according to Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights.
“The church pleads with those in the security sector to stop shooting civilians.
We reject the use of violence and intimidation against those citizens exercising their democratic rights and fundamental freedoms in peace,” ZCC said in a statement.
“The church also urges all citizens of goodwill to assist those injured and comfort the bereaved.
The church also calls upon all public health facilities to ensure that all those affected will access immediate help and treatment without discrimination.”
ZCC said many Zimbabweans were living in abject poverty and the increase on the prices of fuel and other commodities have caused pain, but this did not justify violent protests.
“Regrettably, citizens’ protests and acts of civil disobedience have degenerated into violence, destruction of property, injury and loss of life.
Information at hand suggests that some of those who got injured and killed were from gunshot wounds,” the church grouping said.
Hundreds arrested in violent crackdown
“Many Zimbabweans are struggling to make ends meet.
The effects of price increases not only to fuel, but to basic goods and services such as health, education and food have made many people angry and desperate.
They have also deepened divisions and heightened disagreements.”
The ZCC added: “At this moment of despair, Zimbabweans long for their leaders in government and all other sectors to show urgency and leadership in addressing their concerns.
They are seeking confidence that their situation will be improved sooner than later.
Many Zimbabweans desire a just distribution of both gains of living in Zimbabwe as it goes through this transition.
The current situation cannot continue like this.”
The churches said all people wishing to express themselves should do so peacefully and called on Zimbabweans to unite to solve the ongoing challenges.

Government yesterday said the MDC-Alliance and its aalleged allies were liable to claims by members of the public whose property was lost during the protests.
Three people, including a police officer, also lost their lives in the protests after police and tge army used live ammunition to deal with the protests.
Minister of State for National Security Owen Ncube said people whose property was destroyed and goods looted should quantify damages and report to the nearest police stations.
So far police have arrested 600 people in connection with the riots, with 214 having appeared in court already.
“Government places responsibility for compensation for victims of the violence, destruction of property, injury and loss of life on the MDC-Alliance and all its associates,” Minister Ncube said.
“Government wishes to advise all those who were affected that Zimbabwe law allows them to seek redress from perpetrators and organisers. We therefore urge all whose property was destroyed, goods looted to quantify the damages incurred and report to nearest police stations. This should serve as a lesson to all those who are bent on causing chaos and mayhem in the country, that your actions will not go unpunished. You are liable to pay compensation to the affected people.”

Greyhound Suspends Zim Route As Political Uncertainty Continues
Jane Mlambo| South African based bus company, Greyhound and its sister company City Liner have suspended the Zimbabwean route citing political unrest instigated by the Monday shutdown that turned violent after police and soldiers descended heavily on unarmed civilians protesting a recent hike in fuel prices.
Greyhound joins other airlines including Fast Jet who have suspended servicing the Zimbabwe route due to threats of unrest that saw cars being burnt down and shops being looted.
Govt Unleashed Soldiers In Civilian Clothes Contrary To Chiwenga’s Claims
The below local media report refutes claims by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy Constantino Chiwenga, the latter, who speaking to ZimEye on Tuesday denied that the government unleashed uniformless soldiers on civilians on Monday thus week.

FULL TEXT: A man armed with an assault rifle and in civilian clothes, sitting at the back of a van along Bulawayo Road on Monday, who the government claims was a terrorist, was actually a state security agent, a report claims.
The man was clad in black combat carrying an AK-47 assault rifle and seated at the back of a moving Nissan NP300 registration ABV2127 together with other uniformed police officers.
On Wednesday, police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba professed ignorance of the incident. Charamba said, “I am just a spokesperson and I need to engage the police officers on the ground to verify your claims. Can you bring the pictures here so that I could comment on them after consulting all stakeholders?”
The man is said to have been in the company of police officers and was firing shots in the air. At some point, the man allegedly fired at crowds of unarmed civilians who were protesting against the fuel price hike announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday night. – Newsday
Opposition Officials “Arrested” In The Dead Of The Night In Epworth Over #Shutdown
By Own Correspondent| Opposition MDC Councillors in Epworth Harare were picked up by “police” in a night crackdown over protests which rocked the suburb and Harare central business district.
Sources who spoke to ZimEye said the councillors were arrested by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other unidentified security details and were said to be taken to Harare central police station.
Said the source who spoke in condition of anonymity:
“I wanted to attend the funeral of one of the victims of the shooting, mai Kitchen but a colleague told me that the police, soldiers and CIOs were beating up people attending that funeral. One of the men at the funeral is now nursing a broken arm from the beatings.
Several MDC councillors were also taken in by the security details in the dead of the night. They were picked up in night raids from their homes and that makes it scary.”
Minister of State Security Owen Ncube issued a press statement Wednesday night attributing the violence which rocked Harare and other parts of Zimbabwe to opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa.
Said Ncube:
“The opposition is behind the violence which has rocked the nation…..They should bear the costs of the damages incurred by the victims as a lesson to qould be instigators of violence.”

Police recovered some of the alleged stolen items from the Zanu-PF youth leaders, among them Mazoe cordials, fire extinguishers and ropes.
The accused last night appeared before Harare magistrate, Elijah Makomo for trial, where they denied the charges.
The State was represented by four prosecutors, including Michael Reza, George Manokore and Charles Muchemwa.
ZCTU, meanwhile, has distanced itself from the violence which erupted around the country.
Acting President Constantino Chiwenga on Monday warned the hooligans, saying the law would take its course against those who destroyed State property.- newsday
Fuel Situation Worsens Despite Price Increase
Jane Mlambo| Despite fuel price increases announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday, the precious commodity is still scarce with most service stations dry while the few ones stocked have long and winding queues.
Zimbabwe witnessed one of its worst protests post the Robert Mugabe era. The protests, instigated by Fuel price increases saw more than 600 people being arrested while hundreds were injured in the process.
The only fuel company selling fuel is Trek while three giant companies Total, Puma and Zuva are all closed.
This puts to rest claims that increasing pump price would see an improve the fuel situation in the country.
UK Summons Zim Ambassador Over Unrestrained Military Brutality

Writing in following questions by ZimEye, the Minister Of State, Harriett Baldwin yesterday announced that she has called the “Zimbabwean Ambassador regarding this week’s protests in Zimbabwe. Worrying levels of violence.”
In her statement, she said she “urged restraint from security forces and the need to restore internet access.”
Also adding in was the British ambassador in Harare, Melanie Robinson, who said “we’ve been following up Minister Baldwin’s conversation last night with the Zimbabwean authorities here today. ”
She added that the British government is “continuing to raise our concerns about the violence and fatalities, and urging restraint.”

Jane Mlambo| ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa got stranded in Russia, latest details indicate.
Mnangagwa was in danger of being fully grounded in Russia after failing to pay for the expensive private jet he has hired for his Russia and Europe trips.
This was because the company that owns the expensive Boeing 787 Dreamliner, demanded an upfront payment. ZimEye analyses evidence suggesting that the airline company demanded full payment citing fears of disturbances back in Zimbabwe where his deputy is currently in charge and has publicly told people shot dead by his soldiers to go and report to the police.
ZimEye has learnt that this is the reason why the internet was suddenly switched back on in Zimbabwe yesterday, simply so to facilitate Mnangagwa’s single payment.

Soldiers To Escort Commuters To Work, Zim Govt Issues Statement Saying “Agents Will Escort Buses”
By Farai D Hove| The Zimbabwean government has indicated that soldiers are hereafter going to be escorting commuters to work, following the turmoil that saw armed soldiers killing several civilians since Monday.
The statement came a day after Acting President Constantino Chiwenga told ZimEye people who were shot dead must go report to the police. This was in a phone conversation during which he denied shutting down the internet, contrary to written evidence from mobile operator, Econet that his administration did so.
The Ministry Of Information issued the statement late Wednesday night saying, “For the safety of citizenry, agents will escort escort such buses including govt ones.”
It was understood by the term “agents” the Information Ministry refers to soldiers as was seen at Five Avenue Shopping Centre in Harare which was guarded by armed officers yesterday.
The ministry said, “Govt wish to thank all those private sector bus operators who offered to ferry commuters to their work places tomorrow. For the safety of citizenry, agents will escort escort such buses including govt ones. Let’s have the Zimbabwean normal way of life back.”

Gvnt Continues Muzzling Right To Information As Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp Remain “Closed”
By Own Correspondent| Following a government directive to suspend all internet services due to the civil disobedience by citizens over the escalating economic hardships triggered by the over 140 percent fuel increases, Econet has revealed that internet is now online but some of the social media platforms remain offline.
In a message circulated to subscribers Thursday morning, Econet said while there is now connectivity on the internet, government has maintained its directive for social media platforms including Facebook, Whatsapp, YouTube and Twitter to remain shut.
Said Econet:

The EFF extends its solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe, who have taken to the streets to protest against the increase in petrol prices. We call on the government of Zimbabwe to respond to these demonstrations with restraint. We particularly condemn the unleashing of military on citizens who are exercising their right to protest.
A democratic government knows too well that militaries are not entities used to respond to protesting, armless, and defenceless citizens. To unleash the military is to treat citizens as enemies of the state, who must be met with excessive violence, force and death, as militaries are death driven, only to be deployed to those who are armed and sworn enemies of the people. Militaries should never ever be used against protests and civil defiance demonstrations actions.
The progressive international community celebrated the fall of Mugabe, with the hope that the era of human rights abuse, associated with his reign in Zimbabwe, will come to an end. President Mnangagwa is therefore consistent with the Mugabe administration in violation of the citizen’s right to protest and civil disobedience.
ZIFA Boss Booted Out | WHAT HAPPENED?

The state broadsheet’s report was published by a faceless author who said this was following a clash with Banda’s boss, Felton Kamambo.
Efforts to obtain a direct comment from Kamambo were fruitless at the time of printing. ZimEye reveals there is a history of other clashes involving Banda from the former ZIFA boss Chiyangwa days.

Below was the full text of the Herald story: Just a month after coming into power, the ZIFA board have been rocked by a tsunami with vice president Gift Banda being suspended yesterday following a meeting of the game’s leaders held in the capital.
The Bulawayo-based football administrator, who was a runaway winner in the battle for the ZIFA vice presidency, was suspended for allegedly reshuffling the Warriors technical team without the blessings of his boss, Felton Kamambo, and other board members.
Banda, who was ZIFA acting president when he announced that Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa had been relieved of their duties and replaced by Bongani Mafu and Tonderai Ndiraya, was said to have acted beyond the jurisdiction of his authority.
In arguments presented to his fellow board members yesterday, Banda said he felt his role as acting president empowered him to make such decisions.
He even suggested that if what he did was out of line with the constitution, then the board had the power to reverse the appointments and stick with the old Warriors technical set-up.
Kamambo was out of the country in Senegal for the CAF awards at the time.
The appointments of Ndiraya and Mafu had to be ratified at the ZIFA board meeting which was held yesterday, but things took a nasty turn when Banda was asked to leave the room while other board members discussed the issue.
While the board could have merely chosen not to ratify the appointments of Ndiraya and Mafu if they felt they had not been done according to their constitution, they decided that punitive measures should be meted on the ZIFA vice president.
The matter was taken to a vote and four of the seven remaining members voted for Banda to be suspended, pending the confirmation of his suspension by the ZIFA Council at the association’s annual meeting in March, while three voted for him to be retained as vice president.
Ironically, Banda, who received 35 votes from councillors in a strong showing in his successful battle to become the ZIFA vice president just a month ago, had his fate sealed by just four votes from his fellow board members.
Interestingly, a margin of one vote was all that mattered for him to be suspended from his post and he becomes the first ZIFA vice president to meet such a fate since Kenny Marange was also kicked out of the board by the leadership of Cuthbert Dube eight years ago.
It’s the first time that a ZIFA vice president, the second most powerful man in the management of the game in the country, has been booted out after just one month.
ZIFA boss Kamambo had, interestingly, told the domestic football family that his leadership will not suspend any of the board members because he felt such a system crippled the operations of the leadership of the game.
However, things changed dramatically yesterday when Banda was shown the red card by his fellow board members just one month after coming into office.
Banda refused to comment on the developments yesterday, saying he will release a comprehensive response in due course.
The appointments of Ndiraya and Mafu, as the Warriors assistant coaches, were also nullified by the ZIFA board at their meeting yesterday.
While there have been whispers that there could be some deep divisions, within a board that did not come into power as a bloc, it was not expected that the drama of yesterday — just a month after they came into power — could explode.
This was the second board meeting which the ZIFA board have held after one, which came just five days after they came into power, which some suggest was not held in line with their constitution given due notice had to be sent for such an indaba.
It could not be established last night whether the issue related to Banda’s conduct, which led to his suspension, had also been put on the agenda leading to the meeting held in the capital.
While the new ZIFA leadership have received a lot of plaudits for the way they have been conducting their business, in the month they have been in power, it’s certain that the events of yesterday will cast a shadow on them and possibly lead them on a path back to negativity.
That three of the board members were also against the suspension of their vice-president could also suggest a split in the board.
Others, though, will hail it as a demonstration of democracy which is needed for the effective management of the game.
In the past, the ZIFA executive committee members have come into power as a bloc — with those who would have won the vote having been running mates — but this changed at the last elections as most of those who won stood on their own.
Yesterday marked the first month since the new ZIFA board came into power.

UPDATE ON THE HUMAN RIGHTS CRISIS IN ZIMBABWE
The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights wishes to share with stakeholders critical information on the unfolding human rights crisis in Zimbabwe following the outbreak of violent protests across the country and the ensuing disproportionate response by the state apparatus.
To date ZADHR network of Doctors across the country both in the public and private sector have attended to a total of 172 cases. 68 cases were gunshot wounds with the affected individuals sustaining severe injuries which required urgent surgery in most cases. The remainder of the cases ranged from assaults with sharp objects, booted feet, baton sticks, sjamboks and tarmac abrasions. ZADHR is also deeply worried by cases of dog bites following the alleged unleashing of police dogs on those in police custody in Kadoma. 3 such cases has been documented. This constitutes a serious violation of human rights as the state is supposed to guarantee the protection of those in police custody. ZADHR also witnessed with shock and condemnation the dragging of patients with life threatening conditions to court. There are cases of patients who had chest trauma (haemopneumothorax ) and fractured limbs ( femur) who were forcibly taken from hospital to attend court despite the advise of doctors.
ZADHR has it on record that 17 individuals have to date underwent emergency surgery as they had life threatening conditions. More cases continue to be reported to the Association as many people were barricaded from communication and accessing treatment facilities.
ZADHR continues to tally and collate information regarding the deceased, and those injured in overall and the information will be shared promptly.

Over the past two days, as I have been in Russia working on economic agreements that will give our economy a much needed boost, I have been deeply saddened by the events in our beloved homeland.

Unfortunately, what we have witnessed is violence and vandalism instead of peaceful, legal protests. There can be no justification for violence, against people and property. Violence will not reform our economy. Violence will not rebuild ow nation.
What will lead to a stronger economy is investment. That is why I travelled to Moscow, and that is why I will be travelling on to other countries in the region and then the World Economic Forum in Davos.
In 48 hours in Moscow, there are signs that serious investment is on the way. Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond company, has decided to launch operations in Zimbabwe, and we have also signed a series of important agreements that will lead to investment, development and jobs.

ZBC Says More Than 600 People Arrested Over Monday Protests
Jane Mlambo| The state broadcaster, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has confirmed that more than 600 people were arrested in connection with the Monday protests, Zimeye can reveal.
According to Minister of State Security, Owen Mudha Ncube, the Arrested people include Evan Mawarire and many other opposition activists who were picked between Monday and today, accused of inciting violence.
This is despite the clear disregard of the law and people’s rights to protest by police officers and soldiers who moved around beating up and shooting people in areas such as Epworth, Chitungwiza and Mabvuku.
USA Orders Zimbabwe To Restore Full Access To Social Media & Internet:
UNITED States Senators Chris Coons and Cory Booker have urged Zimbabwean officials to respect the rights of protesters and restore access to social media, internet and telephone services following a nationwide protests staged by local people over the country’s economic crisis.
In a statement, Coons (Democrat, Delaware) and Booker (Democrat, New Jersey) said the current situation in the country is worrying as state security agents have launched a crackdown on protesters amid reports of several deaths, arrests and detentions.
The two, who are members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said, “We are deeply troubled by reports of deaths, widespread arrests, beatings, and harassment of protestors by security forces of the Government of Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwean people have the constitutional right to protest peacefully and express themselves regarding developments in their country.
“Government officials and security forces must respond with professionalism and respect for human rights and the rule of law. We also call on the Government of Zimbabwe to rescind the directive ordering communication service providers to cut or restrict access to social media, internet, and telephone services. Such abrogations of constitutional and basic legal rights are not what the people of Zimbabwe were promised under President Mnangagwa.”
Coons and Booker said Zimbabwean authorities should urgently address people’s concerns. “… Instead, the government should work to meet the basic economic and social needs of its people. We strongly urge the Zimbabwean authorities to resolve the current situation through dialogue and non-violent, fully legal means, and for protesters to exercise their constitutional rights peacefully.
“Under no circumstances should the Zimbabwean government disregard the constitutional rights of its citizens, engage in the illegal suppression of expression and assembly, or employ the disproportionate use of force or extralegal violence to respond to the current situation.”
Coons and Booker are among several other senators who were in Zimbabwe before the country held its elections last July won by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his ruling Zanu PF party.
The poll results were challenged by the Movement for Democratic Change led by Nelson Chamisa, who lost the case in the Constitutional Court which cited lack of evidence in nullifying the election outcome.
The country was facing serious economic problems before the harmonized elections and worsened soon after Mnangagwa was declared winner by Priscilla Chigumba’s Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
Mnangagwa recently announced fuel price increases of up to 150% in a nation with an unemployment rate of over 80%.

Army And Police In Crack Abduction Of Citizens
By Paul Nyathi|Reports coming through to ZimEye.com indicate that police and military officers are on a massive crackdown abducting people in the capital and other urban centres accusing them of taking part in what appears to have been a widespread breakdown of public order linked to food and fuel shortages protests in the country.
Activists, lawyers and other citizens who spoke to ZimEye.com described a wave of abductions in and around Harare. The sources indicated that police cells across the city are “full to capacity”, packed with large numbers of men, women and children.
“The internet shutdown has been [used] to cover up a massive operation of repression,” said Doug Coltart, a lawyer who met with more than 30 detainees at the Harare’s central prison on Wednesday.
“Most said they had been abducted from homes by masked men with AK47s who dragged them out and beat them up. They are being held without charges or representation, with no food or water … The brutality of what is going on is shocking.”
Zimbabweans went wild during a national strike called from Monday by unions in response to a steep rise in fuel prices ordered by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Zimbabwe Internet Partially Restored After 36 Hours
By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwean government has partially restored internet connectivity in the country after over 36 hours of blackout.
Internet connectivity began phasing out on Tuesday morning shortly after midnight when social media sites WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter were disconnected.
A full internet blackout followed on Tuesday morning at 8:30am until Wednesday shortly after 6pm where a slow internet connection was restored. Social Media remains blocked as at the time of this article.
Government has denied that it disconnected the connection with Information Deputy Minister Energy Mutodi claiming that the internet was only congesting due to oversubscribed posting on the internet as people followed the three day citizen protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s governance.
Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy Constantino Chiwenga told ZimEye.com in a telephone conversation Tuesday morning, the government does not have capacity to shut down the internet.

Mnangagwa Drops Surprise Message Blaming Protesters Instead Of Soldiers Who Beat Up Civilians Forcing Them Onto The Streets
By Farai D Hove| ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa Wednesday morning dropped a surprise message blaming protesters instead of soldiers who assaulted civilians and ordered them to riot against him. At least 9 people were reported dead by yesterday as the latest reports suggested that the death toll from the extra judicial killings were now over 220 by Wednesday morning.
LIVE video evidence streamed Monday morning from several schools in places such as Chitungwiza shows even schoolkids while running away from school narrating disturbing accounts of how their teachers were beaten up by soldiers who ordered them to leave work and go protest.
In his message, Mnangagwa even went to the point of labelling the destruction of property, “cynical.” He received a barrage of criticisms over his statements.
Below was the full text of his statement:
Over the past two days, as I have been in Russia working on economic agreements that will give our economy a much needed boost, I have been deeply saddened by the events in our beloved homeland.
Wanton violence and cynical destruction is not the Zimbabwean way. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
As I have said numerous times, everyone in Zimbabwe has the right to express themselves freely – to speak out, to criticise and to protest.
Unfortunately, what we have witnessed is violence and vandalism instead of peaceful, legal protests. There can be no justification for violence, against people and property. Violence will not reform our economy. Violence will not rebuild our nation.
What will lead to a stronger economy is investment. That is why I travelled to Moscow, and that is why I will be travelling on to other countries in the region and then the World Economic Forum in Davos.
In 48 hours in Moscow, there are signs that serious investment is on the way. Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond company, has decided to launch operations in Zimbabwe, and we have also signed a series of important agreements that will lead to investment, development and jobs.
I understand the pain and frustration that many of you are feeling. Resolving Zimbabwe’s economic challenges is a monumental task, and while it may not always feel that way, we are moving in the right direction. We will get there.
In the meantime, I call for calm and peace from all of our brothers and sisters. We are one nation, with one mission, and we will realise it together.

Their specific core presence was at OK Zimbabwe, the only supermarket in the area which opened on Wednesday morning.

LATEST – Day 3: ShutDown Update: Soldiers Tell Povo To Remain Indoors
By A Correspondent | By 11.30am, Wednesday (Zim time) ZimEye had received reports that several soldiers around the country “are going around telling civilians to stay at home.” Several sources said they were told by soldiers they should remain indoors. Some of the military officers reportedly said the soldiers are in full support of the suffering masses. While violence continued in other places, some notable places were parts of Harare, Rusape, and Chitungwiza.
“They said we are with you but remain indoors staying away peacefully,” a source told ZimEye.com.
On Wednesday morning, ZimEye managed to telephone the Acting President Constantino Chiwenga and briefly succeeded in relating to him some proven facts of how the mass action was being engineered by soldiers. ZimEye stressed to Chiwenga’s aide who answered the phone that his office is making a big mistake by punishing civilians when the real perpetrators of the chaos are serving members of the military. It was reported that at least 9 people had been killed end of day, Tuesday. This came at a time when the Doctors For Human Rights revealed that at least 26 people had been shot by yesterday and 12 left with no medical attention.

Kuwadzana: On the 15th of January in the afternoon some white trucks were moving around the area chasing people who were seen on the streets. These individuals had painted their faces with black polish. Today the 16th no movement people staying indoors no sign of Kombis on the road it’s shutdown again.
Chegutu: Few people on the streets and there is a heavy police presence.
Chitungwiza:
In Zengeza it is quiet with soldiers being seen around Zengeza 2 Shopping Centre yesterday. No kombis on the road as people choose to remain
indoors.
The situation is a bit different in Seke areas with a heavy Police and Soldiers roaming around. In all Chitungwiza there is little activity and majority are keeping indoors.
Dzivarasekwa: Tyres were still being burnt last night with some roads being blocked. There is also a power outage in the area. As of this morning very little movement it is shut down again.
Warren Park: Reports say soldiers roaming the streets – residence so afraid of door to door operation. The situation is the same as other Harare areas – no activity.
Zvishavane: Businesses closed as people continuing with stay away.
Gweru: Soldiers were beating up citizens on the 15th of January at the Kombi rank. The situation is said to be tense with little movement on the streets and businesses still closed.

MRP Provincial Secretary Shot by Police at His Home
Mthwakazi Republic Party Bulawayo Provincial Secretary Henry Dube has been assaulted and shot on the head at his home at Cowdry Park in Bulawayo. Dube was shot after questioning the security agents on why they were indiscriminately firing teargas into their houses, endangering the lives of their children. Dube who is reported to be in a critical state, has been taken to a private hospital for treatment through the assistance of the Doctors for Human Rights.
Henry Dube was shot right in his yard, in front of his children. We invite all our members and the people of Bulawayo to pray for the miraculous survival of our comrade. It is rumoured that soldiers and CIO agents disguised as police are currently raiding and assaulting people in their houses.

Shutting Down Internet Services Is Illegal, Unconstitutional

The head of the parliamentary portfolio for ICT, Hon Chalton Hwende revealed saying, “Section 6 of the Interception of Communication act used by mobile companies to shut down the Internet Services is now unconstitutional in terms of the new Constitution.”
Hwende added, “the Act needs alignment and someone should approach the Courts to challenge it,” he tweeted.

Doctors Say 26 People Have Sustained Gunshot Wounds And 12 Have Not Received Medical Attention
By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has said at least 26 people have sustained gunshot wounds and 12 have not received medical attention, in the last 2 days.
In a separate report, the ZLHR said it strongly condemns the wanton and brutal attacks on some Harare residents by uniformed members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
At about 2300 hours, on 14 January 2019, police and army officers randomly carried out door-to-door raids around Mabvuku high-density suburb. During these raids, uniformed members of the police and army forced entry into homes by breaking doors and windows. Having gained access, they proceeded to randomly assault some occupants and in some instances forced residents out of their homes.
Some of the targeted residents were those with houses near barricades placed on roads. The residents were forced to remove the barricades (rocks and stones lined in the roads) and were severely assaulted in the process. As at 0200 hours, on 15 January 2019, ZLHR continued to receive further reports that this illegal operation was still ongoing. At least more than fifteen (15) people have reached out to confirm these attacks. Similar reports have been received from Chitungwiza.
It is clear that the police are failing to fulfill their obligation of investigating first before arresting any suspects as provided in the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act. Further, section 50(1)(a) of the Constitution states that anyone who is placed under arrest must be advised of the reason(s) of arrest and that all suspects must be subjected to humane treatment as provided in section 50(1)(c) of the Constitution.
Of concern is the involvement of soldiers in these illegal acts who are actively participating in the torture, cruel and inhuman treatment of residents, thereby violating section 53 of the Constitution.
ZLHR advises the police and army officers responsible, that lawyers will not hesitate to file court cases against those responsible and hold them accountable for these random acts of torture and destruction of property.
Mnangagwa Humiliated In Russia
By A Correspondent| Russia’s Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev has spoken against unjustified fuel hikes and also said his country will not make up for other countries’ revenue shortfalls.
This was also after sending a junior Deputy Minister to meet ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa at the airport in Moscow yesterday.
He also took an apparent direct swipe at Mnangagwa referring to the country he has leaned on, Belarus.

STATEMENT: Senators urge Zimbabwe officials to respect the rights of protestors and restore access to social media, internet, and telephone services WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.), both members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement.
“We are deeply troubled by reports of deaths, widespread arrests, beatings, and harassment of protestors by security forces of the Government of Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean people have the constitutional right to protest peacefully and express themselves regarding developments in their country. Government officials and security forces must respond with professionalism and respect for human rights and the rule of law. We also call on the Government of Zimbabwe to rescind the directive ordering communication service providers to cut or restrict access to social media, internet, and telephone services. Such abrogations of constitutional and basic legal rights are not what the people of Zimbabwe were promised under President Mnangagwa. Instead, the government should work to meet the basic economic and social needs of its people. We strongly urge the Zimbabwean authorities to resolve the current situation through dialogue and non-violent, fully legal means, and for protesters to exercise their constitutional rights peacefully. By Simba Chikanza| Contrary to claims by Constantino Chiwenga to ZimEye on Tuesday, Econet boss, Strive Masiyiwa has revealed that it is the government which has blocked all internet services across Zimbabwe. Below was his statement and the full text of Chiwenga’s denial is also below.

Police Badly Assault MDC Youth Leader During Protests
Police on Monday allegedly assaulted MDC Youth leader Discent Collins Bajila during violent protests that rocked Zimbabwe. Bajila was in Bulawayo when the incident happened.
Meanwhile police in Chitungwiza reportedly killed two people during the protests. this prompted protestors to burn down Makoni police station.

Who Is Tampering With The Social Media In Zimbabwe? Sites Down Yet Again.
Own Correspondent|WhatsApp and Facebook are reportedly down yet again in Zimbabwe.
The popular social media sites went offline at midnight on Monday and service was temporarily restored for two hours from 6am to 8am.
While ZimEye.com is still finding out what could be happening to the sites, many Zimbabweans believe that government is behind the blackout.
State security has in the last few days been accusing the social media sites for the collapse in the country’s economy and for Monday’s citizen protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

JUST IN – As Mnangagwa Jets Into Moscow, Russia Rubbishes Unjustified Fuel Price Hikes And Says “We Never Promised to Make Up For Other Countries’Revenue Shortfalls”
By A Correspondent| Russia’s Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev has spoken against unjustified fuel hikes and also said his country will not make up for other countries’ revenue shortfalls.
This was also after sending a junior Deputy Minister to meet ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa at the airport in Moscow yesterday.
He also took an apparent direct swipe at Mnangagwa referring to the country he has leaned on, Belarus.

Why The Military Supports Mnangagwa
Zimbabwe’s military deployed in several areas of the capital, Harare, Monday, to put down anti-government demonstrations against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.
This is the second time that the military has been called in to put down protests since Mnangagwa came to power in late 2017. Both times the military opened fire and wounded civilian bystanders.
Zimbabwe’s well-trained and well-equipped military brought President Emmerson Mnangagwa to power in November, 2017, when it put former longtime leader Robert Mugabe under house arrest and patrolled the streets of Harare.
Although Mugabe, who ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years, was supported by the military, Mnangagwa’s government has greater military involvement. Former army commander Constantino Chiwenga is now vice president and at least two other former high-ranking military officers are in the Cabinet. The military is committed to keeping Mnangagwa in power.
The military rolled out onto the streets of Harare in August 2018 to put down protests against delays in announcing the election results. The military opened fire and 6 civilians were killed, some of them bystanders.
Police and soldiers used “unjustified and disproportionate” force in that incident, according to an official inquiry, which did not recommend criminal charges.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM WHEN MUGABE RULED?
There were some anti-Mugabe protests during his lengthy rule, but they were quickly put down, generally by the national police force, especially the special anti-riot unit.
The police frequently fired tear gas and rubber bullets and arrested people by the truckloads. The police invoked draconian laws that outlawed public gatherings of more than 3 people without prior police approval.
Mugabe also operated a network of state security within Zimbabwe, the Central Intelligence Organization, which had agents throughout the country. With effective intelligence, most demonstrations were dispersed by police before a crowd could even gather.
Some prominent government critics were arrested, tortured and at least one was never seen again. Considerable violence was meted out by militias loyal to Mugabe, that were not part of the police or military but permitted to maraud with impunity.
However, it was rare for the military to be deployed and open fire in the cities.

“ZANU PF MPs Itching To Impeach Mnangagwa”
Correspondent|Exiled former Minister of Youth Patrick Zhuwawo has warned President Emmerson Mnangagwa that ZANU PF legislators are plotting to impeach him.
Writing in his Zhuwawo Brief on Monday Zhuwawo said, “You already know that most of the ZANU PF legislatures are itching to impeach you as you correctly observed on Wednesday 30 May 2018. The mass action is spurring them on to save the nation and their constituents from further suffering and to also protect their jobs.”
Zhuwawo said Mnangagwa has failed to uphold the constitution and those are the grounds that will be used to impeach him.
“Grounds for your impeachment in terms of Section 97(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe for (a) serious misconduct , (b) failure to obey, uphold and defend the constitution ,and (c) willful violation of the constitution are being prepared.”
Zhuwawo further urged Mnangagwa to follow the example of former President Robert Mugabe and accept his fate to save the lives of Zimbabweans.
“As your impeachment looms, it is in your best interest that you accept it and contain your die hard sycophants from engaging in conduct that will be attributed to you in both local courts and International courts of justice.
“You must take a leaf from President Mugabe who chose to save lives by accepting your treachery in November 2017.The nation need to move forward with dialogue to institute necessary reforms and restore legitimacy as the basis for resolving the economic crisis.”
Last year there were reports that Vice President Constantino Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga is plotting with ZANU PF officials and members of parliament to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa soon after elections.
During the harmonized elections campaign President Mnangagwa warned ZANU PF members for plotting to impeach him and told them that he has all the information of their plots.
Zhuwawo is in exile after fleeing the bloody the coup that ended Robert Mugabe’s 37 years of rule.
Lawyers Deployed To Offer Legal Support To Citizens Arrested During Shutdown
ZIMBABWE Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) on Monday 19 January 2019
deployed lawyers to offer emergency legal support services to 12
people who were arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers in
Harare following protests held over the country’s worsening economic
crisis.
In Mabvuku high density suburb, ZLHR deployed lawyers to offer
emergency legal support services to nine people who were arrested by
ZRP officers while in Goromonzi North, ZLHR is attending to three
people, who were arrested by the law enforcement agents.
ZLHR has also received reports that some people were hospitalised
after sustaining injuries as they were assaulted and shot at as
Zimbabwean authorities clamped down on protesters.

Nurse Records Patients Screaming In Labour, Sends Clips To Boyfriend
MASVINGO General Hospital nurse Kundai Chitita is under fire after she recorded screaming and groaning patients in labour inside maternity wards and sending the audio clips to her boyfriend Tichafara Mugumbate.
The 29-year old nurse’s shenanigans were exposed by the South Africa-based boyfriend after they broke up two weeks ago.
Apart from sending audio clips of women in labour, Kundai was also in the habit of sending her nudes to Tichafara.
“The recording of the patient screaming in labour… I sent it to him by mistake,” Kundai said when exposed.
“As for the nudes, they are mine yes. I used to send him when we were still in a relationship but when we broke up he started acting weird and posting them in different WhatsApp groups.”
However, the chat between the two shows that Kundai actually discussed the issue with Tichafara before sending it to him. See below:
Efforts to get a comment from Tichafara were fruitless as his South African number was not being picked up.
“His family and my family are aware of what he is doing. They have tried to talk him out of it but he won’t listen.”

The military cannot be duped again to intervene against the people by your disingenuous attempts to pass the blame to them for what may happen just like you did for the 1st August 2018 killings. Own Correspondent|Social media platforms that went down in the country at midnight on Monday have been restored as of Tuesday at 06:30am, ZimEye.com can reveal.
Scores of ZimEye.com readers inundated the media over night indicating that they could not get access to their social media sites and believed that government had lived to threats that the sites would be shut down.
Reports coming in indicate that the sites are now up and running much to the relief of the addicted users.
The government has in various statements claimed that social media has been behind the wide spread civic protests that rocked the country on Monday.

By Paul Nyathi|The Minister of State For National Security Owen Ncube has confirmed revelations made by ZimEye.com on Monday evening that some people were killed during the protests that erupted across Zimbabwe on Monday after the government more than doubled fuel pump prices.
In a statement captured by state media,
Minister Ncube said,“regrettably, this has resulted in the loss of life and property including injury to police officers and members of the public. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”
The Minister however did not mention how many people lost their lives in the protests. Sources close to ZimEye.com indicated on Monday evening that at least three people including a school child were killed.
Two of the people are said to have died of gunshot wounds while a lower grade pupil was killed during a stampede as learners fled from a Mabvuku primary school when police unleashed teargas into the learning institution.
Minister Ncube said more than 200 people have been arrested in connection with the violence while the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (Zadhr) confirmed that at least eighteen people were attended to by their doctors with gunshot injuries and other varied injuries.
The doctors have, meanwhile, put out a notice to say its members are available to provide support for those ‘affected by demonstrations’ .
