“Take Rape Reports Seriously, It Violates Human Dignity”: Joice Mujuru
By Own Correspondent| Former Vice President and leader of the National People’s Front (NPF) Joice Mujuru has added weight to calls for thorough investigations regarding alleged rape crimes commited by soldiers following last week’s protest.
Mujuru said because rape violated human dignity, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration should take rape allegations seriously.
She said:
These allegations of systematic rape levelled against the Zimbabwe National Army should be taken seriously and investigated. Our nation shouldn’t be known across the world because of such criminal acts.
Rape is one of the most repugnant affronts to human dignity and the range of dignity-related rights, such as security of the person and integrity of the person. we demand answers from the highest office.

Truck Driver Wins $298m Lotto, Dumps Job And Truck There And Then
(

A truck driver on Friday claimed the second-largest Powerball jackpot in New York Lottery history, which was worth $298.3 million.
“I’m not going to work, I’m quitting right away!” David Johnson, 56, told CNN affiliate WABC.
Johnson played the lottery on Dec. 26, 2018, with the numbers 5-25-38-52-67 and Powerball 24. He decided to take the cash option, so his net total will be over $114 million after required withholdings, according to a statement from the New York Lottery.
“I can’t even eat. I start and can’t finish my food. I’m happy with joy inside,” Johnson said.
Johnson, who lives in Brooklyn, came to the U.S. from Jamaica when he was 16, according to the statement. He was the third consecutive New Yorker to win a 2018 lottery drawing.
Johnson works across the street from the gas station where he bought his ticket. A friend told him that someone who bought a ticket at the gas station won the massive Powerball prize, but Johnson told CNN affiliate WABC that he did not check his ticket right away. It was not until a few days later that he took his ticket to the gas station and found out he had won.
The New York Lottery is North America’s largest and most profitable. It says it provides about 13% of total state education aid to local school districts.

Mnangagwa Clarifies Internet Shutdown, “It Aimed At Restoring Peace”
By Own Correspondent|President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said while he believes in freedom of speech, the decision to shut down the internet was meant to disconnect protestors and restore peace and sanity in the country.
Last week, there was total internet shutdown following #Shutdown Zimbabwe protests which saw protestors looting and destroying shops. The development saw security forces opening fire at civilians killing an estimated 8 people and injuring scores others.
Said Mnangagwa:
I believe deeply in freedom of speech and expression, and these rights are enshrined in our constitution. You only need to look at a newspaper or read my social media comments to see the level of criticism I get, and I welcome this.
What we saw last week was the social networks being used to plan and incite disorder and to spread misinformation leading to violence. In response, the decision was taken to temporarily restrict access to prevent the wanton looting and violence, and to help restore calm.
I am aware of the criticism of this decision, and we did not take it lightly. The measures were temporary, tactical and aimed at restoring the peace. This has been achieved, all restrictions have been removed and I look forward to continuing to freely engage on social media
Zim-US Embassy Besieged as Zimbabweans Mourn Tuku at Home
By Advocate Walter Nyabadza| As Zimbabweans from all walks of life, at home and abroad, are grieving the loss of legendary jazz musician and icon Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi (MHSRIP), Zimbabwe’s diaspora living in the United States of America including the young people besieged the Zimbabwe Embassy and South African Embassy in Washington DC yesterday!
The concerned patriotic citizens of Zimbabwe presented a paper petition to the ambassador of Zimbabwe in the US and an online petition that has garnered in excess of 7000 signatures to various actors including US Senators Bass, Coons and Booker.
The move is to pressure the governments of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Cyril Ramaphosa and Donald Trump to heed the deeply concerned Zimbabwe diaspora voice and reject the mass shootings in Zimbabwe. The protest has sent clear signal to Mnangagwa, Ramaphosa and Trump that their entire legacy may be redefined by how they failed to act positively for millions of suffering Zimbabweans.
Speaking as the Zimbabwe diaspora media spokesperson, author, columnist and US-Zimbabwe foreign policy expert, Pearl Matibe said, “Diaspora women and all Zimbabwean citizens want their loved ones out of harms way, enjoy peace of mind, living their aspirations and dreams, and most importantly, leaving legacies for their children’s children. Not restoring military elite legacies”.
Key takeaways from the “peaceful protest” were: the right to the diaspora vote must be protected for future elections, Ramaphosa must act swiftly and without delay and include the worldwide diaspora and diaspora women, Trump must engage the Zimbabwe diaspora and the diaspora women at every step of the decision-making process, and Mnangagwa must institute, swift, sincere dialogue with opposition ideologies and all stakeholders including the worldwide diaspora and worldwide diaspora women.

“Internet Restriction Aimed At Restoring Calm”: Mnangagwa
By Own Correspondent|President Emmerson Mnangagwa has explained why his administration switched off the internet following protests that rocked the country last week.
In a statement released on his Twitter account, Mnangagwa said his Government had to temporarily restrict access to social media to stop people from planning and inciting disorder and to spread misinformation.
Said Mnangagwa:
I believe deeply in freedom of speech and expression, and these rights are enshrined in our constitution. You only need to look at a newspaper or read my social media comments to see the level of criticism I get, and I welcome this.

Mourners To Tuku’s Funeral To Be Exempted From Paying Tollgates?

Correspondent|SELF-exiled former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Professor Jonathan Moyo, has pleaded with the Zimbabwe government to allow mourners travelling to Oliver Mtukudzi’s burial free passage through toll gates.
Moyo said the tollgate waiver could be one way of honouring Oliver Mtukudzi who died this Wednesday after a long battle with diabetes.
In a message directed to deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Moyo said: “Adv Fortune Chasi nematambudziko aTuku.
“Folks like my friends going Dande to Madziva to honour the departed national hero (Mtukudzi) on Sunday request from your Ministry a special dispensation for a tollgate waiver on the route. It would be a gesture most appropriate & much appreciated!”
Advocate Chasi responded that this was a reasonable guesture.
“I don’t think it’s an unreasonable suggestion at all. ZINARA should consider it,” Chasi concurred.
The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) manages the country’s tollgates. It is under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
He added: “Apart from the long queues to arise from the Eskbank Tollgate it would be a sign of honor.”
The deputy Minister could however not be drawn into stating expressly whether the request would be taken up by government.
“Thank you Honourable Chasi. Your listening disposition, rational approach and common decency are humbling. The matter is left in your hands. The ancestors will appreciate the gesture in honour of an exceptional national hero and global icon,” Moyo said.
Oliver Mtukudzi, who died on January 23 at the age of 66, was a great cultural ambassador for Zimbabwe. Known to his fans as Tuku, he was a cultural icon for the southern African country.
His aura and presence had a global resonance with fans around the world, yet the man remained humble and magnanimous.
He was also a businessperson, activist, philanthropist and a goodwill ambassador for Unicef in the southern African region. But it was his innovative music that made him deeply loved.
Dubbed “Tuku music”, it was a blend of southern African music traditions, including mbira, mbaqanga, jit and the traditional drumming styles of the Korekore.
The Tuku burial is set for Madziva, Bindura tomorrow at 2pm.

“Soldier Admits Committing Rape”: The Telegraph Report
By Own Correspondent| According to a report by The Telegraph, an unnamed soldier reportedly admitted to committing rape.
Said the soldier in an exclusive interview with The Telegraph:
It was night. We were looking for someone in the MDC. We had an address, this lady was sleeping with a light on. I asked is her husband there, and she said she doesn’t have one. I was done in a minute.
The man also said his unit, who wore civilian overalls and no insignia during the operation, broke “many bones” of MDC supporters by restraining them to the open back panel of an army pick up truck and then smashing it closed on their legs. He said they will beat up people again if they protest.

Under Mugabe, Zim Protesters Used To Be Beaten, Now They Are Being Shot At.
The Zimbabwean military’s move to end Robert Mugabe’s almost four-decade reign in 2017 sent jubilant crowds pouring into the streets of the capital hoping for better times after years of economic stagnation and repression. In the ensuing months, those dreams have been dashed.
Since Emmerson Mnangagwa, 76, was installed as the new president, 18 people have been killed during protests, a dozen of them last week alone in demonstrations over the more than doubling of fuel prices to the highest in the world, according to the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights.
“Mnangagwa promised change; nothing has changed,” said Boniface Tonderai, a 56-year-old vegetable vendor in the capital, Harare. “Now we aren’t being just chased and beaten — we’re being shot.”
Gunshot wounds accounted for 78 of the about 360 injuries last week, the doctors association said. That compares to fewer than 20 bullet wounds out of 12,500 injuries during election violence in 2008, said a senior human rights activist, citing information gathered by the campaigner’s organization. The activist asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation.
The number of people suffering bullet wounds is the highest since the massacre of an estimated 20,000 ethnic Ndebele in the 1980s and exceeds the number injured by gunshots in periodic riots and election violence over the last 30 years.
Gunshot Wounds
“The beatings, the torture, the abductions happened under Mugabe,” Norman Matara, a board member of the doctors’ human rights association, said after presenting a slide show of photos of people killed or wounded by gunfire to reporters. “The thing that is new is the gunshot wounds.”
As he did when six people were shot dead during protests over his disputed election victory in August, Mnangagwa was quick to condemn the killings. He canceled his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he planned to carry his message of a “new Zimbabwe” that’s “open for business,” and returned saying that if necessary, “heads will roll.”

President of Zimbabwe✔@edmnangagwaReplying to @edmnangagwa
Likewise, violence or misconduct by our security forces is unacceptable and a betrayal of the new Zimbabwe. Chaos and insubordination will not be tolerated. Misconduct will be investigated. If required, heads will roll.
Human-rights monitors say they aren’t confident anyone will be held to account. No one has been punished after a independent probe of the Aug. 1 violence headed by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe said the use of live ammunition was unjustified and those responsible should be prosecuted.
“There is a lot of rhetoric about condemning violence,” said Rose Hanzi, the director of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights. “There appears to be no political will.”
While the army denied involvement in the shootings, a spokesman said that any soldiers responsible for them were “criminal elements.”
“The army is disciplined and professional and as there is no insurgency in the country, the army isn’t shooting anyone,” said spokesman Overson Mugwisi. “Citizens should report criminal activity to the police or even to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces if they suspect soldiers of criminal activity so criminal elements can be dealt with swiftly.”
Economic Collapse
Unrest has spiked in recent months as the economy teeters on the brink of collapse. A scarcity of foreign currency — Zimbabwe adopted the U.S. dollar as legal tender in 2009 — has sparked sporadic shortages of everything from gasoline to bread. Inflation, at 42 percent, is at its highest since 2008, when the International Monetary Fund estimates that it reached 500 billion percent.
Last week’s protests erupted after the southern African nation’s biggest labor union federation called a three-day stay-away, sparking the worst rioting since at least 1995.
The difference between now and Mugabe’s time in office, human rights activists say, is soldiers, or at least people in army uniforms, are being deployed to deal with the unrest. Mugabe normally sent in the police.
There was “a scale of shootings, beatings, abductions and abuse of the of the justice system not seen in Zimbabwe since the 1980s,” Ibbo Mandaza and Tony Reeler, Co-Convenors of the country’s Platform for Concerned Citizens, said in statement. “The developing humanitarian crisis is indisputable as is the descent of Zimbabwe into a lawless state.”
As the protests spread, Mnangagwa was on a trade mission to Russia and its neighbors before the planned trip to Davos. He left former armed forces commander Constantino Chiwenga, who’s his vice president, to run the country.
Who’s In Charge?
“There is a fundamental disconnect between the new warm fuzzy narrative of President Mnangagwa and the reality,” said Piers Pigou, International Crisis Group’s senior consultant for southern Africa. “This reflects certain challenges about who is in charge and whether President Mnangagwa really is in control of his security forces and the extent to which he has the backing of his party.”
The constitution says only the president can authorize the deployment of the military and even then he must consult with the cabinet and parliament, according to Hanzi. There’s no provision for an acting president to do so, she said.
“The difference between 2008 and now is that the violence and oppression is overt,” said Pigou. “Its not being done behind closed doors, particularly the use of live ammunition, which we had not seen before Aug. 1 in crowd control.”
For citizens like Tonderai, what’s most concerning is the military precision of last week’s crackdown.
“These guys knew their targets, which houses to raid, which people to pull out,” he said. “Mugabe used a hammer, these guys used a knife.”

ANC Calls On Mnangagwa To Solve Zim Issues As SA Can Not Keep Receiving Refugees

The ANC has said that it has noted with concern the political situations in both Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a statement on Thursday, the ANC said it understood that the recent fuel hikes, which led to violent protests in Zimbabwe last week, had a dire impact on the cost of living on ordinary Zimbabweans.
It added that it was also worried about recent developments in DRC over the central African country’s contested election results, “despite the country’s constitutional court judgement which confirmed the results”.
The much-delayed elections took place on December 30 but was followed by tension as the results were disputed, leading to protests, and curfews being put in place.
The ANC said it was working towards bringing political stability and peace to both countries under the guidelines of the Southern African Development Community and African Union objectives.
“The ANC continues to engage with all political parties in Zimbabwe and the DRC, to encourage them to work towards a peaceful solution and political stability, so that all efforts can go towards socio-economic development and reconstruction,” read the statement.
The party warned that continued violence and instability in both countries was likely to have negative effects on regional countries.
“The ANC notes that unless the situations in both countries are attended to quickly and effectively, an increase in economic and political refugees is inevitable.
“We therefore believe that it is in the best interest of the two countries and their neighbours, including South Africa, to explore all avenues, to ensure that the situation in the DRC and Zimbabwe are stabilised as soon as possible,” it said.
The ANC’s remarks came after EFF leader Julius Malema had warned Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the southern African nation’s heavy-handedness in dealing with violent protest that engulfed the country.
According to News24, Malema called for the South African government to assist its northern neighbour in dealing with its prolonged economic troubles.
Malema however said South Africa’s help towards that country should come with stringent conditions over the rule of law and an end to police brutality.

Biggest Anti Govt Protests ‘In Living Memory’ Hit Sudan, Not Even Zim Could Do It.
Security forces have clashed with demonstrators in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, as anti-government protests take place across the country.
Riot police have used tear gas to try to break up the large rallies.
The umbrella group of doctors, engineers and teachers co-ordinating the protests says they have been held in at least 50 places around Sudan.
They began last month over the economy, but are now focused on removing President Omar al-Bashir from office.
Journalist Zeinab Mohammed Salih told the BBC that Thursday was the biggest day of protests in living memory.
Police reportedly used tear gas to control the crowds in several neighbourhoods in Khartoum.
Since the protests began, officials say that 26 people have so far died, but rights groups say more than 40 have been killed.
Doctors have increasingly been targeted by security forces because of their high social standing as well as the active role some have taken in organising the protests.
Last week, state forces shot a 16-year-old boy and a doctor taking part in protests in the Burri district of the capital.
The doctor who died, Dr Babiker Abdulhemeed, had “over 14 live bullets in his body”, a member of the Sudan Doctors Syndicate told the BBC.
Some foreign journalists have been prevented from reporting events in the country.
In recent days, a number of journalists working for Al Jazeera, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency and Saudi-based Al Arabiya TV have been denied accreditation.

If A Soldier Abuses You Call Hotlines 0712 842 318 or 0786 452 155

THE underfire Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) yesterday established hotline numbers that people could use to report any acts of misconduct by anyone “purporting” to be a soldier in the wake of widespread acts of brutality against civilians by people in military fatigue.
“The Zimbabwe National Army has noted with concern allegations of misconduct and acts of violence by people purporting to be members of the organisation,” ZNA spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore, said in a statement.
Since last week, soldiers and police officers have been cracking down against opposition supporters and people suspected to have participated in recent violent protests against the fuel price hikes, amid reports of torture of civilians and raping of women.
People beating up civilians will be armed to the teeth with AK-47 assault rifles and in army and police uniforms, while also using military and police trucks.
The police and the military recently issued a joint statement claiming brutality on civilians was being perpetrated by some ex-military elements using stolen uniforms.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba and Zimbabwe Defence Forces spokesperson Colonel Overson Mugwisi could, however, not explain where the former officers were getting the arms and service trucks they were using to brutalise the civilians.
“The actions by these bogus elements have subsequently put the image of the organisation into disrepute,” Makotore said.
“In view of the forgoing, the ZNA would like to urge members of the public to report any acts of misconduct by anyone purporting to be a member of the organisation using the following military police hotline number 0712 842 318, 0786 452 155.”
On Thursday night, soldiers and police officers allegedly went on a rampage in Harare’s Kuwadzana high-density suburb and forced out a young man, tortured him, accusing him of possessing some petrol bombs before dumping him about 20km away from his home along Harare-Bulawayo Highway after searching his place of residence and finding nothing incriminating.
The matter was reported at Kuwadzana 2 Police Station under case number RRB 3873960.
According to the victim, three armed people in civilian clothes knocked at his door for over 30 minutes and they called for reinforcements after he had refused to open the door.
“Three Nissan NP300 trucks soon arrived and behind them was a police truck with armed uniformed police and military officers. They ordered me to open the door or they would break it,” he said.
“I opened and they ransacked my house, claiming they were looking for a petrol bomb. After finding nothing, they asked me where I worked, where my wife worked, the ages of my children and where they attend school. They took me away, tortured me, tore my shirt and blindfolded me and threatened to feed me to lions (at Lion and Cheetah Park).”
Meanwhile, the National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (Nango) has demanded that soldiers must immediately be sent back to the barracks and the police perform their duties of protecting citizens and stick to their constitutional mandate after reports of abuse of citizens by law enforcement agents increased.
In a communiqué released yesterday, Nango said: “We are still concerned with the continued presence of soldiers within communities and demand that soldiers immediately go back to the barracks and police play their role of protecting and serving citizens.
“In the same vein, we condemn the law enforcement agents that exude a semblance of being political because law enforcement agents should at all times stick to their constitutional mandate.”
The NGO body also demanded that political parties refrain from giving instructions to law enforcement agents.
“Nango is concerned and notes that intra and inter-political party violence and discord is escalating at the expense of national development. This comes amid incessant corruption in government, poor service delivery, decline in health care and education systems and the general contempt for the rule of law by the military and the police,” the group said.
“We strongly condemn wanton attacks and abductions of civilians and demand an immediate end to abuses and that security of the citizens is ensured.”
They also said children’s rights must be protected after reports emerged that they were also arrested in last week’s clampdown on protesters.

Church Leaders Blast Chiwenga Over Military Crackdown

VICE-PRESIDENT Constantino Chiwenga was yesterday taken to task by Roman Catholic bishops, who demanded answers over the recent military crackdown, which claimed 12 lives following bloody clashes between citizens and State security agents.
The prolonged blitz, which followed a stayaway organised by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) two weeks ago, put the country back into the international limelight as pictures and videos of the military and police brutalising people went viral on social media platforms before government shut down the Internet.
Chiwenga, who was accompanied by Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri and Central Intelligence Organisation director-general Isaac Moyo, to a meeting held at Africa Synod offices in Harare, was grilled by the church leaders, who demanded to know what caused the recent protests as well as the state of the economy.
Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference secretary-general Reverend Father Fredrick Chiromba said the church quizzed Chiwenga and his delegation on what provoked the protests.
“We wanted to get an understanding on the current situation, what we need to do as a nation, things like national cohesion,” he told NewsDay Weekender.
“I wouldn’t want to get into details at this stage, but it was about getting clarification. In fact, we will be engaging further on these issues. It is the beginning of a process that I wouldn’t want to pre-empt at the moment. It was simply to get an understanding on what provoked this situation and get answers why we are where we are and moving on, how government and the church can collaborate so that we move beyond this situation to a Zimbabwe we want.”
Two weeks ago, violent protests erupted in the country following the decision by government to hike the price of fuel by 150%.
At least 12 people were killed by security forces, while more than 70 had gunshot wounds.
The military has maintained a heavy presence in most residential areas and reports of rape have been raised.
The Catholic bishops said they were concerned with the state of the economy and wanted to help as the church in crisis management.
Chiwenga went to the meeting armed with a detailed response on how government was handling the issues.
The VP said he took the meeting as a platform to share ideas with the church on governance and how the State ought to conduct itself.
“We need to brief them about what we are doing in the economy … what we want to do about our relations between the church and the government. I am Catholic myself and we have always done this,” Chiwenga said, as he avoided taking questions on the meeting.
Human rights groups and civic organisations, including the United Nations, have raised concern over the way government responded to the protests.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) will on February 7 bring different political parties to the table to launch the national consensus-building campaign, which is aimed at initiating dialogue on the country’s political and economic problems.
Zimbabwe Congress of Churches (ZCC) general-secretary Reverend Kenneth Mtata yesterday disclosed that currently, there was no alternative to dialogue pertaining to the country’s problems.
He said even if the church was calling for dialogue, the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission must be allowed to take the lead and formulate the technical aspects of how it would be done.
Mtata told delegates at the discussion forum organised by the Zimbabwe National Editors’ Forum (Zinef) and the ZCC that there was need for national consensus and buy-in from the different political parties (Zanu PF) and the opposition, which seem to be singing different tunes pertaining to national dialogue.
“What has been done so far is that the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) must take the lead in this process and they are working with churches and other bodies to initiate the process,” Mtata said.
“If we are going to have national dialogue, we must agree on the process and who guarantees the dialogue outcomes because they must be binding, and we need to agree on who is going to convene this national dialogue.
“As ZCC, we have interacted with political parties and right now we have invited political parties for prayers and ZHOCD is going to launch the national consensus-building campaign.”
He lambasted what he termed as “greed” by political parties which seemed to be calling for dialogue on one hand, but on the other, they also push for their political party interests, which he said ends up hindering the progress on initiating dialogue.
“For those in government, dialogue might be seen as a sign that they are weak and that they have failed, and a sign of giving up authority in government.
But dialogue is a means by which people can find a way of saying ‘where are we as a nation’? That is why it is important for the media to create an atmosphere for dialogue,” the cleric said.
“At the same time, there are people in the opposition who say dialogue is not necessary, and that if we do not assist government, it will collapse. People that think that if government collapses, then we will have another democratic alternative are wrong. In fact, if the system collapses, then what emerges is someone who has guns and power.”

First Wife, Melody, Regrets Rejecting Polygamous Proposal From Tuku
THE late music legend Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi’s first wife, Melody Murape, has bared her soul on her marriage with the late singer who was declared a national hero, becoming the first artiste to receive such an honour in the country’s history.
In a wide-ranging interview with NewsDay Weekender Life & Style on the sidelines of Tuku’s funeral service at his Norton home, Murape said contrary to reports that she was divorced by Tuku, she was the one who moved out of the marriage after the music star decided to take on a second wife.
“Tuku did not divorce me. It’s me who surrendered as I was against polygamy and moved out of our Eastlea home, and people must get it right. Many people peddled falsehoods that I eloped to a soldier. Those were all lies. Tuku was the only husband I knew from the age of 18,” she said.
“When I was leaving our matrimonial home, Tuku cried and then locked me up for almost a week, preventing me from leaving. I just said I was not interested in polygamy.”
Melody — who is the mother of Selmor and Sandra — said Tuku was a loving and supportive husband who would spoil her on several occasions before the marriage broke up.
“I am the first wife. I am the one he wedded in 1979 at Gwanzura Stadium before he became that famous. As a housewife, I would remain home when Tuku went on international trips, but upon his return he used to spoil me a lot,” she said.
“Tuku used to take care of me. I loved him. He also loved me and I know he died while still loving me.”
Melody, however, said he respected Tuku as the father of her two daughters.
“I am pained. Tuku is my daughters’ father. Sandra and Selmor were here talking to their father as they bade him farewell ahead of their United Kingdom tour and barely four days later, they are coming back for the funeral,” she said.
Speaking on the publicised beef between Mtukudzi and her daughter Selmor, who is also an afro-jazz singer, Melody said she had managed to reunite them although it took her almost three years.
“Something had happened that I cannot share with the public that had angered the father (Tuku), but the state of affairs was not as bad as described by the public. Everything was now water under the bridge such that they were about to record a collaboration that was written by Tuku,” she said.
“Yes, there was something that had happened. It is normal in every family that there will be some misunderstandings.”
Melody said her happiest moment with the musician was when they wedded in 1979 at Gwanzura Stadium in Highfield, Harare.
“I married Tuku at the age of 18. I was still young. He was staying at Old Highfield and I was staying at Engineering and we used to meet at Machipisa Shopping Centre,” she said.
She said she first met Tuku at Chimurenga music star Thomas Mapfumo’s show.
“It was a school holiday and I had come to Harare from our rural area to my sister’s place for a Thomas Mapfumo show. So when we were about to get into the concert, Tuku was attracted to me, I was beautiful for sure. I did not know him by then as he was not that famous as I only knew him with his first name Oliver,” she said.
She said although her father had initially opposed her marriage to Tuku, he later accepted it and he was even involved in preparing for the wedding and went on to give her a car as a wedding present.

“State’s Case Is Weak”: Evan Mawarire’s Lawyer On Client’s Freedom Bid
By Own Correspondent|While the ruling on popular cleric and founder of #ThisFlag movement Pastor Evan Mawarire’s bail challenge has been postponed to next week, his lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) told journalists that he was optimistic that his client’s freedom bid will not face any challenges.
Bhatasara told journalists that the state’s case was weak.
“The state’s case is weak, and there are no reasons why they should oppose bail. We hope that bail is going to be granted because the responded knows that the accused is mandated to bail that is why they altered the variations we had submitted, they know that there is nothing which can make be said is the reason to deny bail,” he said.
Mawarire is being charged with contravening section 22(2) (a) (iii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act or in the alternative being charged with inciting public violence as envisaged under section 187(1) (b) as read with section 36(1) (a) of the code.
However, while submitting his bail application, the cleric maintained his innocence, challenging the state to prove if his utterances were in any way close to inciting violence or an attempt to overthrow President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.
He insisted that nowhere in the video did he say people should engage in violent activities.
However, the state is fighting against Mawarire getting bail on the grounds that he will abscond trial as he has a passport.
Mawarire offered to surrender his passport, title deeds of his parents’ house as a surety to guarantee his availability for trial.
However, High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi will make a judgement over the matter on Tuesday 29 January.
Govt Releases 43 Buses For Oliver Mtukudzi Burial

NATIONAL hero Dr Oliver Mtukudzi will be buried tomorrow (Sunday) at his rural home in Madziva.
The international music icon died at the Avenues Clinic in Harare on Wednesday after battling diabetes.
President Mnangagwa declared Dr Mtukudzi a national hero on Thursday.
Government has provided 43 buses to ferry the mourners to Madziva on Sunday morning.
Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said 30 buses will ferry people from Harare.
“As a sign of love, we are encouraging Zimbabweans to come out in their numbers and attend the burial in Madziva. As Government, we have come up with 30 buses for Harare, so that those who would want to join the mourners can do so. These 30 buses will leave for Madziva on Sunday morning.
“There are five buses organised to ferry people from Mashonaland West while five others have been set aside for Mashonaland Central. There will be one bus for each of the remaining provinces,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
The Mtukudzi family was allocated two buses.
Minister Mutsvangwa said the Harare buses will depart for Madziva on Sunday morning ahead of the burial at 2PM.
Today, the body of the national hero leaves his Norton home at 8AM for Pakare Paya Arts Centre where a church service will be held.
By 12 noon, the funeral procession departs for the National Sports Stadium where various artists will be performing live.
“Tomorrow, 26 January 2019, a church service will be held at Pakare Paya at 9am. Body viewing will be held there.
“The National Arts Council in conjunction with other stakeholders has organised a concert in honour of our late national hero which will be held tomorrow at the National Sports Stadium,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
The hearse will leave for One Commando barracks.
Helicopters will take off for Madziva around 3.30pm.
The body will lie in state before burial on Sunday afternoon.
Minister Mutsvangwa said those who cannot make it to Norton can just go straight to the National Sports Stadium where the gates open at 9AM.
“We expect people to be going to Pakare Paya for the church service but some can even go straight to the National Sports Stadium where musicians start entertaining people as early as 9am,” she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa said Zimbabwe had lost a unifier.
“I then want to say, deep in our hearts, we feel we have really lost a unifier. As Zimbabweans let us take this opportunity to think deeper on the advantages of unity among us, as a nation,” she said.

Tuku’s manager Walter Wanyanya said artistes are still confirming through Mtukudzi’s agent.
“So far Ringo, Berita Khumalo and Yvonne Chaka Chaka have confirmed their participation.
“Many other artistes are in talks with our South African booking agent,” he said.
Mtukudzi was a celebrated musician, one of only three locals to be admitted into the Afro-fusion Hall-of-fame in United States.
He succumbed to his long struggle with diabetes.
Tuku grew up in Highfeilds but moved to Norton where he is celebrated for his commitment in nurturing young artistes through the Pakare Paye Arts Centre.

FULL TEXT: Pearl Matibe’s Moving Speech In US
We, the deeply concerned, patriots of Zimbabwe living here in the U.S. are here today because we have a problem, a problem of state-sponsored terror and atrocities ordered and sanctioned by someone we know was an enforcer for Robert Mugabe’s atrocities of 1980s known today as Gukurahundi.
At 4-mins before 8am this morning, a young woman from Zimbabwe told me over the phone, “People are living in fear and are in prison in their own nation. Home is no longer home.” This tugged at my heartstrings.
In Zimbabwe in the early 2000s, I experienced state-sponsored violence during the farm invasions—my family lived on a 1,100acre farm; that’s about 445 hectares. While I’m not going to dredge up the past today, I’ll tell you that one day on a hot Thursday afternoon during the farm invasions I was on our farm in Chegutu and one of my employees rushed in to me panicking, “Mama, kune vanhu kugedhi—ndovavurira here?” [Translated from Shona: “Ma’am, there are people at the gate – should I open for them?”] A convoy of government vehicles had arrived. I knew that this was no ordinary visit. The violence had been relentless for months. I was able to film four of the vehicles used including a Land Rover Defender registration number 759-526W, a vehicle donated by the British government for use by the Rural District Council. By the end of that afternoon, our farm was seized; it was now government property. They had set fire to the maize which was being shelled and bagged ready for market and the baled tobacco too; the fruit of our labors. I had to cover my face and back away from the raging blaze. Less than seven days later—that Sunday night—my farmhouse was set on fire in the hopes that I would be burned in it too.
On a Zimbabwe’s Independence Day Celebration one April, baton-wielding Zanu PF youths drove a convoy of vehicles onto our farm at night to instill fear in anyone not “supposedly celebrating the struggle” from colonial rule. I remained in the house, while two of my personal security guards went out to them. Before leaving, they helped me to barricade the farmhouse entrances with furniture and I hid under the bed for a couple of hours in a gun cabinet built into the concrete floor under my bed.
As deeply concerned, patriots of Zimbabwe’s diaspora based here in the United States (U.S.) we know the problem with Zimbabwe’s state-sponsored violence and atrocities this January of 2019, are no different to Gukurahundi. The world failed to hold the perpetrators to account for Gukurahundi, for the mugabeism-farm invasion violence of the 2000s, for the state-sponsored violence of 2008, for the 1 August 2018 Killings, and today Presidents such as South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa look the other way in this January 2019 state-sponsored atrocities. But, while some may be wondering how this could possibly be happening now, I see many distressing similarities to the Gukurahundi atrocities.
Because of early indications of a systemic pursuit of going after the opposition, I dispute the claim that the ruling ZANU-PF government of 1983 was going after dissidents. The truth is they hoped to decimate the opposition political party ZAPU and its followers.
From my personal encounters with ZANU-PF, I see denial. With Gukurahundi, Mugabe denied (early on) as it was unfolding that it was even taking place. During the farm invasions, again early on, George Charamba denied even being aware of my family’s farm being seized by war veterans when he asked by a Washington Post journalist. He said he claimed the farm invasions were “an exaggeration and manipulation” by farmers. That was in August of 2011. With the current January 2019 protests, while in Russia, President Mnangagwa said there are some protests happening, but they are “almost fizzling” out, yet the stay away terror is continuing.
The Gukurahundi atrocities were committed in the name of freedom for the nation and national security yet the truth is they were to quash the opposing ZAPU political party and its followers. In the same way the farm invasions were supposedly to correct a colonial imbalance. How did taking away a farm from my family amount to correcting a colonial imbalance, the truth is it was a guise to reward, enrich and entrench ZANU-PF elites and their loyalists.
As a Zimbabwe diaspora woman, I condemn the rape and sexual assault violations now being committed by the Zimbabwe Defense Forces (ZDF) as they commit brutalities in neighborhoods across the country. It is hurting our families, friends, communities, and our country’s image.
In Zimbabwe, there is someone to blame for causing us this pain. Robert Mugabe’s enforcer, now President and First Secretary of ZANU-PF, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa refused to give the Zimbabwe diaspora the right to vote. Today he’s refusing to permit Zimbabweans still living in the country to the right to live out their aspirations. Zimbabweans are living in perilous times. Diaspora women and all Zimbabwean citizens want their loved ones out of harm’s way, enjoying peace of mind, living their aspirations and dreams, and most importantly, leaving legacies for their children’s children. Not restoring military elite legacies. Imagine that you have a mass shooting; an active shooter. Any unarmed victim hoping to survive the bullet of an Avtomat Kalashnikov (AK-47) has little chance of escape. The way I see it, you’d have three choices; run, hide or fight. Zimbabweans didn’t fight, tried to hide and others ran. The unfortunate family member that couldn’t get out of the line of fire on Zimbabwe’s streets took a bullet.”
Not enough is being done because we’re seeing Gukurahundi all over again, but more atrocious.
Still, not enough is being done, but I’m willing to speak fair & square on these issues. It is the country of my birth. Zimbabweans love their country, but they love it more than they love Mnangagwa.
The reign of terror, gunning people down and beatings have to stop. Everyone has a human right to live a life free from fear and to be represented by a person of their choice to serve in public office.
Since the highly distressing digital images of the fast deteriorating humanitarian and human rights crisis in Zimbabwe, little to no information being communicated to the outside world and due to the Emmerson Mnangagwa-led government’s security sector carrying out acts of impunity, the diaspora have decided to act decisively. Zimbabwe is unpredictable. That has to change. The ZANU-PF led government has been oppressive for the last 38-years, abducting, torturing, disappearing and oppressing the people of Zimbabwe for decades; Gukurahundi, farm invasion violence, 2008 Election,1 August Killings through to the January 2019 atrocities. Enough is enough.” It has been less than a month after the 1 August Kgalema Monhlante Commission of Inquiry found that Zimbabwe’s “use of live ammunition directed at people, especially when they were fleeing, was clearly unjustified and disproportionate,” yet more unarmed civilians died in this January 2019 atrocities from unjustified and disproportionate use of force.
As diaspora women, we have been reclaiming our country’s powerful, potential unapologetically and helping women back home. I wish to underscore that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has betrayed Nelson Mandela’s legacy and by saying nothing of the gross human violations in Zimbabwe he not only aids their cover-up, he is looking on while Zimbabwe goes to ruin. He must immediately condemn it in its entirety. Besides Zimbabweans came to South Africa’s aid during apartheid, now he sees the injustices in Zimbabwe, he looks away. I’ll partially quote Albert Einstein and say this: “Zimbabwe is a more dangerous place because of those who do evil and, more so because of those who look on and do nothing.”
On Monday 21 January in the U.S., we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. His monument is here in Washington, D.C. Zimbabweans have a dream. Diaspora women have a dream too. I dream of a time when each person in Zimbabwe will be able to live his or her ideals, and aspirations.
I would like to thank everyone that campaigned and pressured to stop Mnangagwa from going to Davos, Switzerland. If we work together we will achieve more positive results.
The Takeaway
A. The right to the diaspora vote must be protected for future elections
B. The current actions of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces and their Commander in Chief, Emmerson Mnangagwa must be considered a mass shootings.
C. Ramaphosa must act swiftly, without delay and include the worldwide diaspora and diaspora women.
D. Trump (perhaps through his advisor Ivana Trump and U.S. Congress) must engage the Zimbabwe diaspora and the diaspora women at every step of the decision-making process.
E. Mnangagwa must institute, swift, sincere dialogue with opposing ideologies and all stakeholders including the worldwide diaspora and worldwide diaspora women. We prefer that he steps down because the diaspora were disenfranchised at the 30 July 2018 poll.
Promote Dialogue
I’m calling on Emmerson Mnangagwa to take a hard look at the benefits of what the people of Zimbabwe stand to gain and to quickly move the country to a strong middle class. He needs Zimbabwe’s diaspora women at the dialogue table.
As the sitting head of state, Mnangagwa should be promoting urgent, genuine dialogue than be seen to be standing in the way of it in taking the country forward.

“Do Not Whip Up Emotions”: Ziyambi Tells The Media
By Own Correspondent|In a statement issued Friday evening, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said Goverment will thoroughly investigate allegations of misconduct against any member of the security services urging the media not to whip up citizens’ emotions through publishing articles that promote such.
He urged those with complaints to report them to the police where he promised they will be treated with impartiality and sensitivity.
This follows allegations that soldiers were indiscriminately beating up people in high density suburbs.
There are also allegations that soldiers raped women whilst looking for people who engaged in violent protests last week.
Said Ziyambi:
In the same vein Government wishes to assure the public that all allegations of misconduct against any of our Security Services will be thoroughly investigated and the law will be allowed to take its course. Those with complaints should report them to the police and they will be treated impartially and with sensitivity.
It is also important to note that the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has issued a statement appealing to all those who wish to complain against the Army to report their allegations to the Military Police on the following numbers:
• 0712 842 218
• 078 645 2155
We call upon our media not to whip up emotions but help bring people together as we hold hands one to another rebuilding our country.
Namibian CSOs Call On Their President To Intervene In Zim Situation

By Paul Nyathi|PRESIDENT Hage Geingob should use his “authority and power” as SADC chairperson to intervene in the ”deteriorating” Zimbabwe situation, was the call by Namibian civil society organisations on Wednesday.
The statement was released by the Namibia Non-Governmental Organisations Forum (Nangof) Trust and was endorsed by 22 civil society organisations.
Nangof Trust chair Sandie Tjaronda said that Zimbabweans have not experienced peace since the general election of 30 July 2018 and that the situation demanded Geingob’s immediate involvement in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe in order to protect their human rights and bring about peace and security.
“The country has gone through political turmoil and upheavals which led to violence, aggravated by the heavy presence of the security apparatus, mostly armed soldiers, in the streets,” Tjaronda stated.
He added that the president’s intervention was necessary as it “will require greater conviction and commitment to the principles, objectives and undertakings of SADC, which you took an oath to protect without fear or favour”.
Tjaronde went on to say that: “Under these principles, SADC and its member states, pledged to act within the purview of sovereign equality, solidarity, peace and security, human rights, democracy and the rule of law, equity, balance and mutual benefit and peaceful settlement of disputes.”
He stated that what was happening in Zimbabwe was because of that country’s leadership not adhering to these principle and ideals which was unacceptable.
“Innocent defenseless Zimbabweans have been brutally murdered in the violence that was sparked by senseless and self-serving fuel prices and this needs to be condemned in the strongest terms,” Tjaronda said.

Your Excellency
APPEAL TO RESTORE PEACE AND THE RULE OF LAW IN ZIMBABWE POST ELECTIONS
We, the Namibian Civil Society Organizations under the auspices of Namibia Non-Governmental Organization Forum Trust hereby call upon Your Excellency to use your authority and power as SADC Chairman to intervene on the Zimbabwean deteriorating political situation without further delays.
Since the general election held on 30thJuly 2018, Zimbabwean citizens have not experienced peace in their own mother land. The country has gone through political turmoil and upheavals which led to violence aggravated by the heavy presence of the security apparatus mostly armed soldiers in the streets. We believe Zimbabwean situation demands your immediate involvement in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe to protect their human rights and bring about peace and security for all.
This delicate but necessary assignment will require greater conviction and commitment to the principles, objectives and undertakings of SADC which you took an oath to protect without fear or favor.
Under these principles, SADC and its member states pledged to act within the purview of sovereign equality, solidarity, peace and security, human rights, democracy and the rule of law, equity, balance and mutual benefit and peaceful settlement of disputes.
We have reason to believe that what is happening in Zimbabwe is because of the leadership’s departure from these principle and ideals and the manifestation of a militant authoritarian rule insensitive to the plight of Zimbabwean citizens.
This is unacceptable and inhuman given the volatile profile of Zimbabwe’s political situation and landscape which dates back to president Robert Mugabe’s administration.
We are gravely concerned about the cost of living for ordinary Zimbabweans which has been exacerbated by the increase in prices of commodities in particular the fuel price. Innocent defenseless Zimbabweans have been brutally murdered in the violence that was sparked by this senseless and self-serving fuel prices and this need to be condemned in the strongest terms. We cannot continue to sit back and watch our brothers and sisters suffering under the mistaken hope that one day things will normalize by themselves.
We trust that our humble request will be granted preferential treatment and urgency expressing our interest to support you as always, in crafting a lasting peace solution in collaboration with our Zimbabwean civil society and its alliances.
Yours Faithfully,
Mr. Sandie Tjaronda

Mthuli Ncube Pockets $166 million From 2% Tax
By Own Correspondent| Government collected $166.15 million during the last three months of 2018 from the two percent per dollar transacted tax (Intermediate Money Transfer Tax).
Finance minister Professor Mthuli Ncube introduced the 2% per every dollar transaction tax in October last year as part of his “austerity for posterity” measures in a development which saw him receiving heavy criticism from all sections of Zimbabweans.
Zimra revealed that Government collected $177.27 million with $11.12 million collected at the previous rate of $0.05 per transaction during the first nine months.
Zimra said in its performance report that revenue grew by 848.30 percent from $18.69 million collected in 2017. ZIMRA said it was able to reach the $5 billion mark, in part due to the revision of the Intermediated Money Transfer Tax (IMTT).
Law Society Of Zimbabwe To Hold Crunch Meeting Over The Rule Of Law
By Own Correspondent|Irked by the state of the rule of law in the country, the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has called for an emergency meeting on January 28 2019.
The organisation said that it is concerned with what it says are injustices happening at courts.
Read a statement released by the LSZ:
We have received reports from some members and in other instances, we have observed practices that do not show that justice is being done. It would appear that no-one is paying attention to the adage: ‘Justice must not only be done, but it must be seen to be done.’ Irregular and illegal pre-trial processes and court processes appear to be collusively used to deny an accused person access to justice.
The lawyers have revealed that they had reached out to the Chief Justice Luke Malaba to express their displeasure.

Fake Policemen Steal Car
A 36-year-old man lost his Ford Ranger double cab to two suspected car-jackers who were masquerading as members of the security services, who accused him of not stopping at a police roadblock in Beitbridge on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 3am after the man had just entered the country from South Africa. Chief police spokesperson Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident.
“After passing through a police roadblock near Puma Service Station in Beitbridge, the complainant saw a motor vehicle following behind with its lights flicking indicating for him to stop,” she said.
“The complainant stopped thinking that it was the police. Two male adults disembarked from the vehicle and approached him.”
Comm Charamba said they identified themselves as Government employees in the security department and alleged that the man had not stopped at the roadblock.
“The complainant was bundled onto the back seat and one of the accused persons drove the vehicle for a while before turning into a dust road where they stripped him,” she said. “They later dumped him near Masvingo.”
Comm Charamba urged members of the public to be alert and when in doubt they must drive to the nearest safe point before stopping.
She said they were appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the culprits and anyone with information can contact any police station or the national complaints desk on (0242) 703631.

Suspended chief magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe, who is facing criminal abuse of office charges, was yesterday further remanded to February 28. Guvamombe appeared before magistrate Mrs Rumbidzai Mugwagwa for routine remand. This was after prosecutor Mr Shepherd Makonde successfully sought for a postponement of the matter on the basis that there were some investigations which were still being conducted.
Guvamombe allegedly offered work-related learning to former Cabinet ministers Saviour Kasukuwere and Supa Mandiwanzira at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts. Kasukuwere and Mandiwanzira are law students at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).
They have pending criminal charges before the same court. It is the State’s case that in November last year, Guvamombe received correspondence from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) seeking internship places for law students.
On the list were Kasukuwere and Mandiwanzira. He allegedly authorised the attachment of the students by appending his signature and referred the correspondence to the deputy chief magistrate for action without any comments or reservations.
Guvamombe was granted $3 000 bail, coupled with stringent conditions when he initially appeared in court.
He now awaits the High Court’s decision following an appeal by the National Prosecuting Authority challenging the lower court’s decision to grant him bail. Justice Tawanda Chitapi heard the application and reserved judgment to next week Tuesday.
Chiwenga Says We’re Open For Talks
Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga yesterday met leaders of the Roman Catholic Church as part of Government’s efforts to build a common understanding between the State and the church on issues affecting the country.
His visit follows Mnangagwa’s invite last week for a national dialogue among heads of the country’s political parties, religious and civil leaders, whom he urged to set aside differences and come together in the furtherance of the national interest.
Mnangagwa’s call came on the back of deadly disturbances instigated by the opposition MDC-Alliance and its civil society partners that resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.
Six people died and goods worth million of dollars were looted by violent protestors who also damaged property worth millions of dollars in the different cities and towns.
Chiwenga told the clerics, who were led by Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference secretary-general Father Frederick Chiromba, that Government’s doors were always open for engagement.
Speaking after the meeting Chiwenga, who was accompanied by Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and other officials, highlighted the importance of mutual understanding between the church and Government.
He said: “We were sharing our ideas on our country with the church and the church sharing its ideas with us. We need to give them what we are doing in the economy.
“We give them what we want to do about our relations between the church and Government. We have always engaged and I am catholic myself.” Father Chiromba said the meeting was at the request of Chiwenga who wanted to brief the bishops on the current affairs in the country.
“He wanted to brief them (bishops) on the current situation and that is what he did,” he said.
“The bishops also responded and asked for clarifications in some areas.
“The main outcome is that Government is keeping an open door for the church so that the church can go to Government and ask for information and other issues. It was simply to get an understanding of the current situation and what we have to do as a nation to bring national cohesion.”
“At the moment we do not want to go into details. Current affairs touch on everything in the country and the discussions were very broad, covering everything and anything that is of concern to Zimbabweans at the moment,” he said.
Father Chiromba confirmed they also discussed the violent protests. “Yes, we would not want to go into details at the moment but it was simply to get clarification and that was given.
“We will be engaging further on these issues. It is the beginning of a process and we would not want to pre-empt.
“We simply wanted to get an understanding of what provoked this situation, to get a common understanding in that area on why we are where we are at the moment and moving on how the church and Government can collaborate so that we move beyond this situation towards the Zimbabwe we want,” he said.
The violent demonstrations, which is part of the regime change agenda by opposition political parties and their foreign agents, saw at least 1 100 people being arrested.- state media

Poor Mugabe Mourns For His Hidden And Stolen US$1m And Not For Mtukudzi

Paul Nyathi|While the whole country and the whole world have gone all out sending condolences on the late National Hero and musician Oliver Mtukudzi, former President Robert Mugabe has shockingly remained silent.
The 95 year old former leader of the country emerged on media complaining that he lost US$1 million cash to relatives at his rural home in Zvimba leaving some commentators claiming that perhaps he was not told of Tuku’s death.
Mugabe was captured by the media clarifying that his employees, some of them relatives, had actually stolen US$ 1 million in cash from him and not the US$150 000 that was initially claimed. The money was in a suitcase and was discovered by the employees when they were carrying out their chores at his rural home in Zvimba.
The suspected thieves, Constancia Mugabe (50), Johanne Mapurisa (50) and Saymore Nhetekwa (47), were granted $2000 bail each after they appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Felix Mawadze earlier this month.
According to the media the court papers state that in 2016, Mugabe packed books in four briefcases which he took to his library at his homestead in Zvimba. He also included a black polo briefcase containing US$1 million which he gave to Constance to look after although he did not tell her what it contained. When Mugabe requested the briefcase in March 2018, Constance said she could not find but promised to look for it.
After learning that the suspects were living luxuriously, Mugabe sent another employee to look for the briefcase. When the briefcase was discovered it now contained only $78 000 instead of $922 000. After the arrest of the suspects, the police discovered that they had purchased many properties which they could not afford.
Mapurisa who is a caretaker bought a house for US$20 000 at Murombedzi Growth Point and registered it in the name of his wife, Noticia Sibindi. He also bought a Toyota Camry for US$6 800 Nheketwa, another caretaker, allegedly bought a Honda Fit. Muhumbe, employed as a groundsman, bought a Honda CRV and registered it in his brother, Emmanuel’s name.
Only US$42 800 was recovered.

The government organised concert will witness the arrival of the body of the national hero at 12 noon where different artists and his surviving band will pelt out some of his songs for 3 hours.
Tuku’s body will then be ferried to his rural home in Bindura immediately after the concert for burial.
Six Months On, 2018 World Cup Fans Refusing To Leave Russia, Immigration Battling With Them
Moscow – Ruasia has a problem with 2018 Soccer World Cup guests who just won’t leave.
Paul Nyathi|A senior policeman told Russian media on Friday that more than 5 000 foreigners who arrived on a visa-free system for fans last year have yet to leave the country, more than six months after France beat Croatia in the final.
Andrei Kayushin, who heads the migration department of the Interior Ministry, says just over 12 000 were left when their “Fan ID” permit cards expired at the end of 2018, but security services swiftly reduced that number to 5 500.
Kayushin adds “we are undertaking operations to deport them and I hope that they will all be deported by March 30.”
“Army STOP Civilian Attacks”: Matabeleland Collective
By Earnest Adonai Mthimkhulu| The Matabeleland Collective has demanded the army to withdraw its unconstitutional arrests of civilians and crackdown on civilians in areas such as Mabutweni, Iminyela and Pumala townships respectively.
Addressing a press conference on the social unrests occurring around the country, more particularly on Matabeleland which is the designated area of focus for the collective of more than 40 Community-Based Organizations (CBO) and Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Jenniffer Williams said that there is a need to adhere to constitutional mandate and
soldiers must return to barracks so as to allow the police to do proper investigations without interference.
When citizens marched under the pretext of a peaceful protest against the government, there are hooligan who ended up breaking into shops, murdering a police officer, allegedly raping a number of women leading to the police focusing mainly on crushing protests and failing to fully protect civilians’ lives, houses and business leaving them vulnerable to the
above cases.
This however saw the army crackdown and beating civilians in areas of Mabutweni, Iminyela, Pumula just to mention a few and it seems the crackdown and the unlawfully unconstitutional investigations being carried out by the army; instead of the police, has re-traumatised civilians of Matabeleland with the Gukurahundi memories.
Dumisani Nkomo the CEO of Habbakkuk Trust stated that from the investigations they conducted prior to the social unrests, there is definately a third force which was not only organised and strategic but also coherent and in some places would just open using iron cutters in a systematic way.
Speaking as part of the Matabeleland collective, Mr Nkomo appealed to the government, local authority, the law enforcement officers and the president to allow the police to do thorough
investigations without army interference so that even the citizens may feel free to come up with more cases and allegation666

Wanted Leader Hands Himself Over To Police

The president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Peter Mutasa, “has presented himself to Harare Central Police Station accompanied by his lawyer,” a grouping of human rights lawyers said in a tweet.
It was not immediately clear whether he had been arrested, but his colleague, the ZCTU unions Secretary General Japhet Moyo was arrested on Monday as he flew into the country on charges of trying to subvert the government and inciting violence.
Mutasa appeared earlier this month on a video clip posted on social media, with cleric and activist Evan Mawarire.
They called jointly for a national job boycott to protest against a steep fuel price increase and the general economic meltdown.
Mawarire was arrested last week on subversion charges and earlier on Friday he sought bail in the High Court.
The prosecution opposed his bail application on the grounds that he was likely to abscond.
“If convicted he’s likely to stand a long term of imprisonment and that is enough inducement for him to flee,” prosecutor Mirirai Shumba told the High Court in Harare.
Nationwide demonstrations erupted last week after President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that fuel prices were being doubled in a country suffering regular shortages of fuel, food and medicine.
Furious demonstrators took to the streets in several cities and towns with widespread rioting and looting.
Soldiers and police put down the protests and at least 12 people died. More than 1,100 were arrested, including opposition Movement for Democratic Change lawmakers and senior figures.
“I Lost My Number One Mentor,” Dancer Bev

Popular dancer Beverly Sibanda says she has lost a mentor after the untimely death of music legend Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi.
The dancer, who is now based in South Africa, returned home after hearing news of the music legend’s death.
Bev said that she would join mourners at Tuku’s home in Norton yesterday.
Bev said: “I have lost my closest mentor, he also had the biggest standing in the entertainment industry.
“What pains me is the fact that he lost his son sometime back and now we have lost him, which is so painful,” she said.
She said she would dedicate a dance to the legend.
“I will be attending the funeral with other musicians and I am even ready to dance there as tribute to Tuku.”
Bev’s handler, Hapaguti ‘Harpers’ Mapimhidze said:
“Zimbabwe was robbed of a father, a mentor and a musician.
“Bev used to learn a lot through Oliver Mtukudzi’s music,” he said.
Harpers said Bev used to feature at some of Tuku’s shows.
“We would feature at his shows at Sam Mtukudzi Hall. Bev learnt a lot from Tuku through his music.”
The camp also encouraged other musicians to learn from Tuku’s approach in the industry.

“1 February 2019 Is National Clean Up Day”: EMA Reminds Citizens
By Own Correspondent|The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is encouraging citizens to come out in their numbers and clean their immediate environments on 1 February 2019 as this is the National Clean Up Day.
In a statement issued Friday, EMA called on citizens to participate in the exercise which will go a long way in creating a clean, safe and healthy environment.
Said EMA Communications Officer Joyce Chapungu:
On the 5th of December 2018, His Excellency, President E. D. Mnangagwa declared that the first Friday of every month is the national clean-up day. This came from the realisation that waste management had become an issue of concern affecting mostly the urban and semi urban centers of Zimbabwe.
This declaration will go a long way in creating clean environs as provided for by section 73 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. The inaugural National Clean up Exercise was on the 4th of January 2019.
On that day, various stakeholders including the Presidium, Cabinet and Provincial Ministers, corporates, civil society, religious organisations, politicians and the media fraternity participated in the program, thus making it a success.
Such inclusive participation is commendable as it is a key enabler to attaining Sustainable Development Goal number 11 which is “To make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.
The first Friday of February 2019 falls on the first day of the month. All citizens of Zimbabwe are encouraged to come out in their numbers and clean their immediate environs from 0800hours to 1000hours.
Clean the front, back, sanitary lanes and all areas around your premises and beyond. Pick up all litter and clear dumps. If we all participate, we will achieve a clean, safe and healthy environment. Clean up materials such as bin liners, brooms, pokers, latex gloves, pokers, rakes and shovels are required for this noble exercise and stakeholders are encouraged to procure these in preparation for all the up-coming clean-ups.
Where stakeholders may have challenges or unable to procure their own cleaning materials, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) can assist.
For sustainability of the program, leadership involvement and participation is key. Additionally, all waste generators are encouraged to embrace and adopt waste separation at source as it enables waste to be re-used and recycled thus creating green jobs.
Zimbabwe Giants Dynamos Chase Former TP Mazembe Defender Petit Diamo Onedika

Harare giants Dynamos are assessing Congolese defender Petit Diamo Onedika Katako as they seek to fortify their squad ahead of the new season.
Katako, a former TP Mazembe defender, has been training with Dynamos this week. The 36-year-old has also previously played for FC Lupopo and Don Bosco in his home country.
After narrowly surviving relegation last season, Dynamos coach Lloyd Chigowe is out in the market trying to build a formidable squad.
Dynamos have already signed another Congolese player Ngandu Mangala, who has previously played Division One football in Zimbabwe.Article continues below
“A foreign player should prove his value, he has to demonstrate something which the local players do not have. Otherwise, there is no reason why we should have a foreign player who plays just like the locals. If it is like that then I would rather give the contract to a local player,” Chigowe told The Herald.
“Our aim is to be highly competitive to make sure that a brand like Dynamos will not be dragged into the mud. For example, fighting relegation is mediocrity at its worst. We should be fighting and competing against the best.”
Dynamos have also signed their former players Edward Sadomba and Archiford Gutu, who are coming in from stints in Sudan and Sweden respectively.
Since the departure of former coach Kallisto Pasuwa, who helped them win four straight league titles from 2011 to 2014, Dynamos have been struggling in the Premier Soccer League.
“Don’t Judge Me On My Stay At Anderlecht,” Rejuvenated Musona

Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has revealed why he left Belgian giants Anderlecht to join minnows Sporting Lokeren.
The 28-year-old completed a loan move last week that will end at in June. He had struggled for game time at Anderlecht which saw him making only eight appearances in this campaign.
According to a Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, Musona feels that he was not given a fair chance following his arrival at the club in August, last year.
“I had to leave Anderlecht this winter because it’s quite hard to train and not play. It’s frustrating not to be in the team. And if you do not play, you do not have confidence. I do not think I failed at Anderlecht, I did not just get my chance.”
The former Kaizer Chiefs and KV Oostende striker hopes to use his stay at Lokeren to show the Anderlecht technical team what he is capable of. He made his debut for the team on Saturday, playing the entire minutes in 4-1 defeat to Eupen.
“People cannot judge me during my stay in Anderlecht because I have never been able to show myself. I hope that this loan will allow them to come to the conclusion that I can bring something to the team.”

No Visits For Arrested MDC Leaders At Hwahwa

Correspondent|OPPOSITION Movement for Democratic Change legislators Amos Chibaya (Mkoba), Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo), Lloyd Mukapiko (Redcliff), and Livingstone Chimina (Chiwundura) are set to spend a second straight weekend in prison after their trial was pushed to next Mon
Prison authorities today blocked MDC officials from visiting the legislators who are locked up at Hwahwa Prison outside Gweru.
When the MPs appeared in court early this week, they were remanded in custody to 28 January as the State asked for more time to locate its witnesses.
Chibaya and Chikwinya are part of the 12 MDC MPs who are currently in custody over accusations of inciting citizens to engage in violent protests on the 14th of January.
Amos Chibaya (Mkoba), Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo), Winnie Kankuni (Sunningdale), Lloyd Mukapiko (Redcliff), Rusty Markham (Harare North) and Livingston Chimina (Chiwundura) are some of the MDC MPs known to have been arrested.
MDC deputy Treasurer-General Chalton Hwende said on Friday: “Our Chief Whips were today denied the chance to see our fellow MPs who are in custody at HwaHwa prison.
“The memo at the prison limits visits for Hon Chibaya, Hon Chimina, Hon Mkapiko, Hon Chikwinya to once in every seven days.”
MDC Secretary-General Douglas Mwonzora said they had just finished compiling their statistics regarding the actual number of party officials in prison and those in hiding.
“We have just finished compiling our interim report on the on the gross human rights violations by the state. According to the report 12 people were killed while a total of 758 were arbitrarily arrested. A total of 5 MPs and 9 Councillors were arrested,” Mwonzora said in a statement.
Several legislators, including leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Tabitha Khumalo, Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North), Job Sikhala (Zengeza West), Maxwell Mavhunga (Chitungwiza South), Chalton Hwende (Kuwadzana East), Happymore Chidziva (Highfield West), Joana Mamombe (Harare West) and Mashonaland West Senator Voice Chinake, are in hiding.
MDC chief whip in the National Assembly, Prosper Mutseyami, yesterday said that the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House meeting today would tackle issues to do with victimisation of their members, whom he said were being brutalised, tortured and refused treatment.

Meanwhile, South African opposition Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has condemned the use of violence by state security organs to quell protests.
“I just had a conversation with leaders of opposition in Zimbabwe. I condemn the use of violence against citizens by the Zanu-PF regime. We should stand against prosecution and arrest of opposition leaders,” Maimane said.
He also added his voice to the growing calls for South Africa to assist Zimbabwe, but was quick to say such assistance must be humanitarian and not financial.
“Ultimately, South Africa must offer humanitarian help not help fund Zanu-PF and Emmerson Mnangagwa.”

“We Tried Our Best To Save Him,” Daisy

Oliver ”Tuku” Mtukudzi’s widow Daisy, opened up on the death of the late music icon, who succumbed to diabetes on Wednesday afternoon, after a long illness.
In an interview conducted by the H-Metro, Daisy shed some light on Oliver Mtukudzi’s long fight with diabetes and said that they made all efforts to keep him alive but in the end, heaven had its way.
”life will never be the same again without Tuku, we tried our best for him to survive, but he was elevated to heaven,” said Daisy.
The widow and mother of the late Sam Mtukudzi added that the wound that the musician has left will be difficult to heal and that they will safeguard his legacy.
” We will safeguard his legacy and the projects he started. Ofcourse it will be difficult but the almighty will help us,” she said.
ZIFA President And Deputy At Each Other’s Throats In No Time

Suspended Zifa vice president Gift Banda has accused his superior Felton Kamambo of insincerity.
The association boss was relieved of his duties early this month after he made new appointments in the Warriors technical team without consulting the Executive Committee. He replaced assistant coaches Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa with Tonderai Ndiraya and Bongani Mafu.
Giving his side of the story on Thursday, Banda, however, said Kamambo was in the know of the appointments and was shocked to hear that he had acted unconstitutionally.
“It boggles the mind that people would seat to deliberate on such an issue when everyone was in the know of what was happening. The president himself was even quoted in the press saying that he had met Sunday Chidzambwa and assured him that his job was safe,” said Banda.
“It was also unconstitutional because the 14-day notice for the board meeting that suspended me was not followed. When I had the meeting with the secretary general ( Joseph Mamutse) as a person in the know of the constitution, he should have reminded me if I erred unless he was acting in bad faith to make Zifa look bad and bring it into disrepute,” added Banda.

ZUPCOs Chase Kombis From Ranks, People Stranded
The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) and the Harare City Council have embarked on a process of reclaiming bus termini in the capital.
This development follows the re-launch of the mass public transport system by government last week.
In a move which is expected to de-congest Harare and bring sanity towards the movement of people, the ZUPCO buses which were re-launched by government last week will now be loading passengers from their old designated points dotted in and around the central business district, shopping centres and various suburbs.
Acting ZUPCO Chief Executive Everisto Madangwa confirmed that his organisation will now be operating from designated ranks and plans are at an advanced stage to officially launch the buses in Bulawayo and Mutare before spreading to other towns.
“We are in the process of launching the buses to Mutare and in Bulawayo already five buses are already servicing some routes. The process will spread to other towns like Gweru soon,” said Mr Madangwa.
The re-launch of ZUPCO has received overwhelming approval from the public who are now clamouring for more buses.
“The re-launch of our buses in Harare has been successful; it brought relief to the public who say they were sick and tired of being swindled and harassed by kombis,” Mr Madangwa added.
A snap survey in the CBD shows that despite the private commuter omnibuses also reducing fares to remain relevant, the public prefers to board the ZUPCO buses which they say offer better services.

South Africa Worried About Zim’s Deteriorating Human Rights And Economic Situation
Jonathan Moyo Battles To Explain Himself Out Of Itai Dzamara Murder Allegations
SELF-EXILED former Higher & Tertiary Education Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has accused members of the Military Intelligence Department of using a ghost Twitter account to point fingers at him as the one behind the disappearance of journalist Itai Dzamara.
Moyo was responding to a Twitter thread by one Amanda Phiri who sought to expose the Professor as the one who funded the operation of Itai Dzamara.
“On 14 July 2018 I said that Itai Dzamara was abducted by Military Intelligence Department (MID) under General Mike Sango as CDI under Chiwenga.” Prof Moyo said.
“Six months later and scared by my Letters to my Father book, Itai Dzamara’s abductors have confessed under the guise of accusations via an MID ghost account.”
Also commenting on Phiri’s thread Patson Dzamara said,”A lot of people sought my comment over this stupid thread but I didn’t want to dignify it with a response. In fact, I am not going to. It’s balderdash. Please respect my family and our pain. That’s all I request.
“Since 2015, I have consistently stated it was the work of the military intelligence. It did not become a fact the day Prof. Moyo said it neither was he the first one to say that. I have been saying the same even when he was still in ZANU-PF.”
Find Amanda’s full Twitter thread below:
Itai Dzamara was killed and burned by a de-facto gang led by Dick Mafios. The reasons where that he was going to cause chaos and Mugabe’s die hard supporters wanted to outshine CIO.
Happyton Bonyongwe approved it and he was taken by a car belonging to Jonathan Moyo. Moyo’s role was to finance.
Jonathan Moyo gave each of the guys US $460.00 and they were 4 guys. One is Trevor Mabhuso who stayed in Ushewokunze in Harare South and was security guard for Mashayamombe. Mafios had a plan to beat up Dzamara around the Mbudzi round about and act as if he was robbed.
The plan could not go on after Trevor hit Itai near the ear and he started bleeding. They then kept the body for 2 days. Saviour Kasukuwere was then informed by Mafios and he asked Jonathan Moyo for propaganda spinning. Jonso asked journalists from Daily News to start speculation.
They were extremely expecting MDC to mobilize and the late Tsvangirai played down the Dzamara protest. The European Union officials started to ask. During that time Bonyongwe instructed by Saviour Kasukuwere and Jonathan Moyo, Itai was burnt into ashes.
Trevor and crew they were threatened with arrest until one called Edwin Nyamande went to South Africa and threatened to spill the beans, his mother was taken away and Mrs Nyamande then told her son in SA and they said he was needed for murder of Dzamara. Trevor had sold out and the other 3 guys had their money.
The money they got it from aide of Jonathan Moyo called Mlungisi. Near Bon Marche in Eastlea.
After everyone was now aware Itai was missing they then used Bonyongwe and his counter Intel Unit to work around that. Moyo was very instrumental in fighting the issue of Dzamara. Mugabe did not know about this until the International community started to probe.
Mafios then came up with a plan to visit his traditional healer in Chitungwiza and they used a Mini Taxi Cab number 21 and the driver is known as VZ or Chale. Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere, and Mafios went for first cleansing ritual near Somabi Hill.
Then went to another Hill in Darwandle called Puckly Hills and they were not dressed in the river Gwebi near Little England Farm. And they took the water to Dzamaras’ house in Glen View.
In all rants and you folks knowing Jonathan Moyo he could have told the nation the full picture. He never came out clean because it was a misguided murder and torture that went wrong.
-His role was to push Bonyongwe for cover up.
– do the payment
-asked Mashayamombe to kidnap old lady to stop the guy to speak out

Mtukudzi Family Rejects Heroes Acre Burial For Tuku
By Dorrothy Moyo| The family of the late music legend Oliver Mtukudzi has rejected the heroes acre burial awarded the singer by the government.
This came after ZANU PF President Emmerson Mmangagwa announced that Tuku is now a national hero.
The benefits of national hero status include being buried at the highly political Zanu PF shrine. Other benefits are that the deceased’s estate is not taxed, in addition to being buried at the shrine.
But the Mtukudzi family has rejected the offer by government and since decided that he will be buried at his rural home in Madziwa.
Earlier Mtukudzi’s local MP, Temba Mliswa told ZimEye the late “will be buried at his rural home just like the late cabinet minister Timothy Stamps.”
In addition, a family member said, “he will be buried in Madziva at 2 pm on Sunday. These are Oliver’s express wishes. He wanted to be buried amongst his ancestors.”
Meanwhile Mliswa also told ZimEye his wishes were that he be buried near his late son, Sam.
Former ZANU PF Minister Urges Mnangagwa To Resign
Correspondent|A former cabinet minister has challenged President Emerson Mnangagwa to respect the voice of protesters and resign the same way his predecessor President Robert Mugabe did in November 2017.
Former Minister of State for Masvingo Province, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti wrote on his twitter that it would be his prayer that President Mnangagwa respects the will of the people and step down.
Bhasikiti said president Mnangagwa must follow the then president Mugabe who resigned after a mass protest in Harare in November 2017 which was called by the war veterans.
“I’m praying for Ngwena (President Mnangagwa) to honor his word. Gushungo had already cleared the path. You just need to follow him since you was his closest ally,” said Bhasikiti.
In a telephone interview, Dr Bhasikiti added: “‘The voice of the people is the voice of God’ is a catchphrase Mnangagwa said in reference to the ousting of Mugabe in 2017. He was saying that since the people had demonstrated against Mugabe, Mugabe was supposed to obey and leave office. Now that people overwhelmingly staged a successful Shutdown in protest against his rule, he should do exactly what his predecessor did, leave office!”
Zimbabweans across the country brought business to a standstill between January 14 and 16 across the country after an announcement by President Mnangagwa that fuel price had gone up by 150 percent.
Reports claim that about eight people died while dozens were injured during the protests which saw many shops looted, property vandalised and public roads being blocked..
Bhasikiti was booted out of ZANU PF party in 2014 together with some cabinet ministers like Joyce Mujuru, Ray Kaukonde and Didymus Mutasa on accusation of trying to topple President Mugabe’s government, a campaign which was spearheaded by Mugabe’s wife Grace.
The group was labelled “gamatox” with Mujuru being it’s leader.
Since then, Bhasikiti who lost the Mwenezi East parliamentary seat under the MDC Alliance banner to ZANU PF’s Joosbi Omar during the July 31st 2018 harmonised election has become a fierce critic of the ruling party.
Information Ministry Dismisses George Charamba On Mnangagwa’s Twitter Page
Own Correspondent|THE Ministry of Information, Publicity & Broadcasting Services has dismissed a statement made by presidential spokesperson George Charamba that the nation had to take tweets from President Mnangagwa’s official twitter page with a pinch of salt.
Charamba cautioned the nation against believing everything that is tweeted through President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s verified Twitter account, insinuating that the page was being run without the full control and authority of the President.
But the Information Ministry, via its own twitter page, has dismissed Charamba’s claims.
In a short but hard-hitting tweet, the Information Ministry twitter page, believed to be under the hands of the ministry’s permanent secretary Nick Mangwana, has said nothing gets posted on President Mnangagwa’s twitter page without him having cleared it.
Charamba cautioned the nation against believing everything that is tweeted through President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s verified Twitter account.
Responding to journalists who were probing about the call for dialogue by President Mnangagwa, Charamba said, “Just when we were in there the President was drawing me to an attempt as it were putting words in his mouth using his twitter account. So do not always believe that which is coming through that account.”
But in an apparent clap back, the Information Ministry has just tweeted: “There maybe be many fake accounts in His Excellence President Mnangagwa’s name but @edmnangagwa is the legitimate voice of the President. Nothing goes on there but that which represents his views and positions on issues and that which he has explicitly cleared.”
“There maybe be many fake accounts in HE President Mnangagwa’s name but @edmnangagwa is the legitimate voice of the President. Nothing goes on there but that which represents his views and positions on issues and that which he has explicitly cleared,” said the Ministry.
Confusion due to serious factional fights has ripped the government’s information department right in the middle, with information of key national significance constantly changing depending on the mouthpiece that speaks at the time.

Prominent Businessman Amongst Those Arrested For Looting Choppies Supermarket

A PROMINENT Gokwe businessman, Chengetanai Takawira (30), is among 18 suspects of public violence, who allegedly looted maize, food and groceries at Grain Marketing Board (GMB) and Choppies Supermarket in the Midlands town last week.
Chengetanai appeared before Gokwe magistrate Musaiona Shortgame for trial yesterday.
Takawira and his accomplices are being represented by lawyers Reginald Chidawanyika and Solomon Kangembeu.
However, the State witness and police officer, Ediriza Makanje, admitted in court that some of the accused persons were arrested on information supplied by third parties, which could not be proven.
The trial is continuing today.
Allegations are that on January 15 this year, the accused persons and their accomplices, who are still at large, went around the business centre ordering operators to close shops.
They allegedly proceeded to Choppies Supermarket and vandalised the closed circuit television and looted bread, beer and mealie meal.
The gang allegedly vandalised the Gokwe Town Council guardroom and some tuckshops around the terminus.

They allegedly later attacked a police base in the town and proceeded to the GMB depot, where they looted several bags of maize and loaded them into their vehicles.
It is alleged the accused persons vandalised and stole property worth $30 000. Michael Mhene represented the State.

“Increasing Rape Allegations A Cause For Concern”: MDC
The past few days have seen a surge in allegations of state sponsored rape cases. Some of the women who were interviewed were followed, brutalized and arrested.
These point out to institutions of the state being turned rogue, creating a coalition against the citizen.
The MDC is disgusted by the use of rape as a weapon against women in an evil attempt to cower them from speaking out their discontent.
What kind of state rapes and sodomizes it’s people?
People who disappeared a few days ago, their bodies are being found deformed in mortuaries. The world must not watch while these violations continue. What is happening is already crimes against humanity by any definition and standard.
There is no mention of any investigation around these mass violations. With the numbers of reported violations including those attended to by NGOs and covered by the media, signs are that this can easily be a second Gukurahundi.
The madness must stop. This nation needs healing, its people need justice.
Behold the New. Change that delivers!

“Sexual Violence Is Sickening”: UK Parliamentarian Harriet Baldwin Tells Mnangagwa

By Own Correspondent|United Kingdom’s joint Minister of State at the Foreign Office and Department for International Development, Harriet Baldwin has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ensure soldiers who raped women during a violent crackdown on protesters are brought to book.
Baldwin is also Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire.
She was reacting to a report by ITV News where a woman named Melody said she was raped by 2 soldiers whilst children watched.
Said Baldwin:
Sickened by @ITV reports that Zimbabwe’s security forces have raped civilians during their violent crackdown. Sexual violence is an atrocity and who is commanding these forces? The UK urges @edmnangagwa to ensure these perpetrators are brought to justice.
Tuku To Be Buried In Rural Madziva On Sunday, Sources Indicate.
Correspondent|The late great Afro-jazz musician and national hero Oliver Mtukudzi will be buried at his rural Madziva home near Bindura on Sunday, sources close to the Tuku family have revealed.
Mtukudzi, who died on Wednesday at the avenues clinic in Harare, was declared a national hero, with the family having the liberty to choose where and when he will be laid to rest.
Announcing the conferment of national hero status on Oliver Mtukudzi at the Mtukudzi home in Norton Thursday, President Mnangagwa said the government will cover all funeral expenses.
He added that the Mtukudzi family will decide where and when Tuku will be buried.
A family source said: “Over the past few weeks, the family had come to terms with the reality that Tuku might lose his fight to diabetes. All burial scenarios seem to have been finalized while Tuku was alive, as there wasn’t that much debate or consultations regarding his final resting place.”
This was also confirmed by UK-based former Radio Zimbabwe DJ Ezra Tshisa Sibanda, who worked for a long time with Mtukudzi.
Sibanda, who for much of the week has been at the Mtukudzi home in Norton to pay his condolences, said Tuku confided to him some years back that he would want to be buried at Madziva.
Ezra Sibanda said: “Tuku once told me his wish was to be buried at his rural home in Madziva, 30km from Bindura, Mashonaland Central province.”
He added: “He told me a few weeks after the burial of his son Sam in 2010 who died in a horrifying accident & was buried at Warren Hills, Harare. I’m pleased his wishes have been respected and will be laid to rest in Madziva on Sunday!”
There had been speculation that Mtukudzi could be buried at Warren Hills where his son Sam was buried eight years ago.
Mtukudzi is not the first national hero to be buried somewhere other than the National Hroes’ Acre in Harare.
Recently, the founding Vice Chancellor of Nust, Professor Phineas Mogorosi Makhurane, was declared a national hero but the family preferred to have him laid to rest at the family home in Gungwe, Gwanda South.
Professor Makhurane was buried on December 8, 2018.
DRC President Collapses At Inauguration Due To Tight Bullet Proof Vest

Paul Nyathi|Newly installed Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi collapsed on stage while giving his inaugural speech at Thursday’s ceremony.
He stunned the guests comprising local and international when he indicated midway his speech that he was not feeling well before going down on his knees.
He was rushed behind the stage and first-aid had to be administered to rescusitate him.
After twelve minutes of panic and worry, Thisekedi walked back to the stage to continue to finish delivering his speech.
His handlers blamed his known condition of hypertension and “a very tight bullet-proof vest” as the cause for the sudden collapse.
Thisekedi has been sworn-in after a disputed election held on 30th December 2018 in which many stake-holders including the powerful catholic church said his rival, Martin Fayula was the clear winner of the DRC presidency.
Kabila’s government snubbed mediation efforts by the African Union and the country’s Constitutional Court proceeded to announce Thsisekedi as winner.
Kabila also set inauguration plans in motion even when a Committee of African Presidents was expected in the Country.
Mugabe Actually Lost $1 Million Not $150k As Ealier Reported
A CASE in which former president Robert Mugabe lost US$150 000 to a relative and his employees has taken a new twist amid revelations that the workers stole close to US$1 million cash from the politician. The suspects — Constance Mugabe (50), Saymore Nheketwa (47), Andrew Mahumbe (37) and Johannes Mapurisa (50) — were arrested early this month for allegedly stealing US$150 000 from Mr Mugabe’s rural home in Zvimba.
According to updated court papers released yesterday, Mr Mugabe lost US$922 000 to the suspects whose case was remanded to February 7 this year by Chinhoyi Magistrate Mr Tawengwa Chibanda.
The prosecution led by Mrs Kessia Teveraishe alleges that in 2016, Mr Mugabe packed books in four briefcases. He took them to his library at his homestead in Zvimba.
Mr Mugabe included a black briefcase containing US$1 million. He gave his house keeper Constance the briefcase for safekeeping.
Mr Mugabe, the court heard, did not tell her what the briefcase contained.
On March 1, 2018, Mr Mugabe demanded the briefcase from Constance.
She allegedly professed ignorance about its whereabouts, but promised to look for it.
Mr Mugabe later ordered one of his employees, Mr Edson Jemwa, who is the group human resources manager at Gushungo Holdings, to look for the briefcase on January 6 this year.
He had received news on how the suspects were living luxuriously.
Mr Jemwa went to Mr Mugabe’s homestead in Zvimba, according to the State, where Constance led him to the recovery of one Amiet briefcase and another Blue Deisey Club briefcase at the former president’s summer house.
The black Polo Club briefcase was recovered from Mr Mugabe’s main bedroom.
A police report was made and the suspects were arrested.
The bags were taken to Mr Mugabe’s home in Harare without verifying contents with the suspects or the police.
Mr Mugabe, who was in Dubai, reportedly identified the black Polo Club briefcase as the one which went missing when he returned to Harare.

FULL TEXT: Opposition Leader Tears Into Ramaphosa For Lying To The World
By Jacob Ngarivhume| Today South African president Cyril Ramaphosa defined the Zimbabwean problem as a Sanctions problem. While he was asking for sanctions to be removed President Ramaphosa forgot to talk about the ZANU PF sanctions imposed on the Zimbabwean people. He forgot
1. To talk about the brutality being pepetrated by the Mnangagwa Regime. He forgot to talk about the systematic door to door campaign being conducted by the Zimbabwean military to brutalise and silence defenceless citizens. He forgot to talk about how many people Mnangagwa and his military have murdered since taking over from Mugabe. So far more than 18 people have been murdered since August 1.
2. He forgot to talk about the fact that although Mnangagwa’s government slogan is *”Zimbabwe is open for Business”*, ED’s govt has not passed any meaningful legislation to change the economic laws which have stifled foreign direct investment coming to Zimbabwe. The same economic laws which destroyed our economy are still there. How can Zimbabwe be open for business when its LAWS SCREAM ZIMBABWE IS CLOSED FOR BUSINESS?
3. He forgot to talk about the corruption sanctioned by ZANU PF in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has lost billions of dollars since 1980 from corruption. ZANU PF has managed to destroy every industry and can not account for billions generated from gold and diamond mining. CAN RAMPHOSA explain how Mnangwagwa is dealing with corruption in ZANU PF when ED is the center of that corruption
4. HE forgot to talk about the Black market being RUN by Mnangagwa’s friends and family in Zimbabwe
5. He forgot to talk about the fact that Zimbabwe continues to pillage its resources in exchange for more debt and weapons. He forgot to mention that ED just came back from Russia when he sold more of Zimbabwe’s minerals in exchange for advanced military technology. Why does Zimbabwe need more arms? So that ED can continue to conduct his war against the citizens.
6. Only last week the entire nation was plunged into an illegal internet shutdown by a mere overzealous minister, closing any prospects of the existence of a democratic space with freedom of expression and unfettered access to information.
The reason RAMAPHOSA and South Africa continue to block progressive forces in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa is because he is also part of the old dictatorship club that continue to benefit from corruption. People like Ramaphosa have betrayed everything that Nelson Mandela stood for which was political and economic freedom for all black Africans. He has now become the spokesperson for the SOUTHERN AFRICAN DICTATORSHIP CLUB which supports black-on-black oppression and white oppression when it serves their intersts. This breed of sellouts is only concerned with primitive accumulation to the detriment of our beloved continent! This must be fought with all means available!

Mnangagwa’s Commonwealth Bid Up In Smoke
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid to rejoin former British colonies’ club, the Commonwealth, as part of his re-engagement efforts with the West, appears to have hit a snag after the ex-colonial masters raised a red flag this week over Harare’s ongoing brutal crackdown on protesters, including fatal shootings of at least 12 civilians last week.
Britain’s Commonwealth minister, Lord Tariq Mahmood Ahmad, warned that the ongoing reports of military brutality against unarmed civilians and opposition leaders were jeopardising Zimbabwe’s chances of being re-admitted into the elite club.
“Many saw during the (2018) Commonwealth summit, the government’s commitment to encourage, among other partners, the new Zimbabwe to come forward for membership. Clearly, the events that have unfolded recently put that into question — but, of course, it is a matter not for the UK, but for the Commonwealth as a whole,” Ahmad said.
Mnangagwa last year applied for Zimbabwe to re-join the Commonwealth and invited the bloc, which is made up of former British colonies, to send representatives to observe the July 30, 2018 polls, whose results have been disputed by the opposition Nelson Chamisa’s MDC party.
The Commonwealth observer mission also condemned the elections, saying they fell short of international best practice, but the British government had maintained a soft stance on Mnangagwa’s government, hoping for quick political and economic reforms despite the fatal shooting of six civilians in the August 1, 2018 post-election violence.
But latest developments have dampened chances of re-engagement, with most global powerhouses expressing concern over Zimbabwe’s regression to autocratic rule, as soldiers have taken over policing roles, manning roadblocks and maintaining order in major cities and towns.
The Donald Trump-led United States government has also condemned the government crackdown targeting members of opposition and civic society groups linked to last week’s violent fuel price hike protests.
To date, the crackdown has led to the arrest of over 1 000 people, among them five MDC legislators and labour leaders.
“The targeting and arbitrary arrests of political activists, civil society and labour leaders violates Zimbabwe’s Constitution and impedes the country’s progress,” the United States embassy in Harare said in a statement.
The US urged Zimbabwe to uphold the rule of law and protect human rights.
Harare’s central business district resembled a war zone yesterday as soldiers rounded up informal traders and anyone suspected of jay-walking and led them to Harare Central Police Station, where they were reportedly assaulted.
Mnangagwa, who is desperate to re-join the Commonwealth to unlock lines of credit to oil the country’s failing economy, indicated on his Twitter handle on Tuesday that he would deal with rogue State security agents accused of brutalising civilians.
He also committed to reach out to all political, church and civic leaders for dialogue to resolve the current political and economic logjam.
But his spokesperson, George Charamba, threw spanners on his boss’ re-engagement efforts on Wednesday declaring that government was not desperate to join the Commonwealth group.
“The sentiments on prospects of Zimbabwe rejoining the Commonwealth overlook a very basic fact, namely that it is the British government which wanted Zimbabwe back into the Commonwealth. We related positively to that indication because it coincided with our policy of re-engagement. If there is a second thought on the matter, so be it,” Charamba was quoted as saying.
Zimbabwe pulled out of the club in 2003 after former President Robert Mugabe’s fallout with the West over electoral fraud, human rights violations and the chaotic land reform programme.
Acting Foreign Affairs minister Cain Mathema could not be reached for comment as he was said to have accompanied Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the inauguration of Felix Tshisekedi as President.
State security agents on Wednesday reportedly raided the home of Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) chairperson, Rashid Mahiya, and confiscated passports belonging to his wife and children.
“The State security agents stormed Mahiya’s home at around midnight and threatened further action against the family,” CiZC said in a statement.
“CiZC condemns the continued raids and abduction of civic society and opposition activists at a time the government of Zimbabwe is trying to mislead the international community that things have normalised in the country.”
Several activists, labour leaders and main opposition party members, who include #ThisFlag leader Evan Mawarire and Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) secretary-general Japhet Moyo, were arrested by the police, while many have since been forced to go into hiding after receiving tip-offs that State agents were after them.
The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and Zimbabwean Human Rights Association (ZimRights) called on government to end the human rights violations being perpetrated by security forces and to release detained protesters and civic society leaders.
“Zimbabwean authorities must immediately halt their increasing authoritarian practices in responding to citizens’ grievances on the worsening state of the economy and refrain from further excessive use of force against peaceful protesters,” both the FIDH and ZimRights said in a joint statement.
The organisations said thorough investigations must be carried out on human rights violations and perpetrators brought to account.
FIDH vice-president Arnold Tsunga said authoritarian rule was worrying, especially as it still exists in a government led by Mnangagwa, a successor to Robert Mugabe, who was toppled from power in November 2017 after nearly four decades of autocratic rule.
“Ahead of 30 July 2018 general elections, we advocated for a real democratic transition to be initiated, particularly by reversing the system of poor governance, corruption and serious abuses that marked the Mugabe era,” he said.
“It is very disturbing to see that malpractices and disproportionate use of force against peaceful protesters are still taking place.”
Clampdown On Opposition Protestors Turns Nasty As Women Are Raped
Scores of women from Harare’s Hopley area alleged they were raped by soldiers during the ongoing crackdown against opposition activists linked to last week’s protests against fuel price hikes which turned violent, resulting in the killing of 12 people by security forces.
In separate interviews from their Harare hideout, the women gave horrifying experiences at the hands of suspected soldiers.
This comes at a time when the military and the police have warned of rogue elements that were carrying out acts of terror in the name of the security forces.
“On January 17, soldiers were patrolling in our area. They usually come and they are familiar with people in the area,” one of the victims said.
“On that particular day during the night, I arrived home late and saw some soldiers near my house and they were in the maize field. They asked for certain people, but to my surprise, those were my children and sensing danger, I said they were not home.”
She said one the soldiers called her from a distance and she complied.
“He said I should do everything that he wants and he said he wanted to sleep with me. I didn’t refuse because I wanted to save my children. I, however, told him that I am HIV positive, but he said it didn’t matter so I complied.”
Another survivor, who confessed that she was a commercial sex worker, said she and a friend were coming from her night patrols at some drinking spot in Southlea Park when they met a group of soldiers.
She said the soldiers accused them of hiding riotous people and criminals at their houses.
The woman said they were ordered to lie on the ground and to their surprise, two soldiers took turns to rape them.
She said they were traumatised by what happened, but out of fear, they had to comply.
They implored the government to look into the matter and bring to book the perpetrators.
The Women’s Academy for Leadership and Political Excellence (Walpe) condemned the rape and torture of women across the country between January 14 and 16 during the national shutdown.
“iTV news, an international credible news agency, released a hear-rending video of women narrating horror stories of how they were tortured, raped and psychologically tormented at the hands of soldiers,” Walpe said.
“Men and children were not spared of the violence that saw 12 people being shot dead by the army.”
The organisation demanded the arrest of soldiers and all security officers who committed torture, rape, murder, assault and robbery.
“Walpe further appeals to more women who were sexually assaulted during this period to come out and seek treatment, as most of them were subjected to unprotected sex, thus exposing them to sexually transmitted diseases,” Walpe said in a statement.
MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume said such matters must not be swept under the carpet.
“The call, which has been made to investigate the conduct of security forces, must be done urgently. It also must be done in line with the recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission,” he said.
Human Rights Watch Southern Africa director Dewa Mavhinga said Zimbabwe had a vicious cycle of violence that needed to be broken.
“Zimbabwe has repetitive vicious cycles of violence because the government fails to ensure justice and accountability, and to punish those who commit abuses in the name of the State. The authorities must immediately investigate all reports of abuses and make sure no abuse goes unpunished,” he said.

Matabeleland At It Again, 29 Schools Record Zero Percent Pass Rate, Where Is The Problem?
TWENTY-NINE primary schools in Matabeleland North Province recorded a zero percent pass rate in last year’s Grade Seven examinations, but there was an improvement in the overall provincial pass rate.
Last year the same number of schools recorded the zero pass rate but officials have said it’s not the same schools as some have improved.
Matabeleland North deputy director responsible for primary education, Mrs Beatrice Manjere said the low marks are attributed to teacher shortages and new schools without adequate materials.
“We have 29 schools that recorded zero percent pass rate. Same number as last year but different schools and some are new comers. We are going to thoroughly supervise these schools. We will be assisting them on how to handle multi grade teaching because with most of these schools they are small schools,” said Mrs Manjere.
She said some of the new schools have a staff complement of three teachers who have to teach all the grades.
“We have to staff develop them on multi grade teaching and equip them with some teaching strategies like early reading initiative which means encouraging pupils to have a culture of reading ,” said Mrs Manjere.
She said they were looking forward to more teachers in the recruitment exercise being undertaken by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. “The pass rate by subject for the province by subject is 30,4 percent and by units its 43 percent, an improvement from 2017 record of 37 percent. We are happy with the five percent increase and I think this could be attributed to the supervision visits which were made by the province to the districts and also by strategies in teaching such as early reading initiative,” said Mrs Manjere.
She said eight students scored five units and they are mainly from Hwange district.Mrs Manjere said the province has a total of 600 primary schools, and 563 of them had candidates sitting for the Grade Seven examinations.
Mrs Manjere said overall the province scored 41,82 percent pass rate in English, 41,82 percent in Mathematics, 71,41 percent in IsiNdebele; 38, 26 percent in
General Paper; 47,63 percent in Agriculture; 67,24 in percent Tonga; 92,98 percent in Shona and 71,3 percent in Nambya.
“In terms of Tonga we still have a shortage of teachers. We still need Tonga speaking teachers to teach Tonga,” said the deputy education director.
“For Tonga language which had a candidature of 3 980 pupils, 139 scored distinctions translating to a pass rate of 67 percent while 51 candidates sat for Shona, with four distinctions recorded translating to 92 percent pass rate,” said Mrs Manjere.

Bulawayo Omnibus Operators Consent To Reducing Fares With Immediate Effect

By Own Correspondent| Commuter omnibus operators in Bulawayo have agreed to reduce kombi fares across city routes from $2 to $1,50 with immediate effect.
Taxi association leaders who spoke to a local publication Thursday said they met Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Judith Ncube to discuss the fare issue and present their grievances.
Tshova Mubaiwa Transport Co-operation Chairperson Mr Atlas Moyo said they had agreed to reduce the taxi fare as a measure to meet halfway with commuters.
He said the fuel price hike had necessitated an increase in fares.
Said Moyo:
We met with the Minister, our leader in the province and we presented our grievances to her. We have since agreed on a downward review of the taxi fare to $1,50 from the $2 that has been charged ever since the new price of fuel was announced. We also need to feed our families and keep the vehicles fit to avoid road accidents. We are hoping for a better situation as time goes on.
Bulawayo City transit spokesperson Daniel Pondo said the new fares were not tallying with their expenses.
Expriccos taxis chairperson Mr Mpikelelo Khumalo yesterday said most operators would be unable to keep vehicles in shape due to high operational costs.-StateMedia
Another Bomb Blast In Bulawayo, 9 Cars Burnt To Shells
NINE cars were burnt to shells following an explosion at a vehicle workshop in the early hours of yesterday in Bulawayo’s Thorngrove suburb.
Police suspect foul play and investigations are underway.
The incident occurred at around 1AM at PJ Motoring Services and Spares Centre that specialises in servicing Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles.
Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Richard Peterson said they were yet to determine the cause of the fire.
He said the fire brigade received a report at 0142hrs and they arrived at the scene at 0159hrs.
“Upon arrival, we found nine cars on fire at the workshop. We are investigating the actual cause of the fire,” said Mr Peterson.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said an employee at a nearby company reported the incident to both the fire brigade and the police.
The employee also tried to contact the workshop owner, but he was not reachable.
“We are investigating an incident where there was an explosion at a motoring services and spares centre in Thorngrove suburb. The incident occurred in the early hours of today (yesterday).
“An employee at one of the premises in that area heard the explosion and saw a fire emanating from the mentioned place. Nine vehicles were burnt completely,” he said.
When The Chronicle visited the workshop yesterday, an employee, Mr Enock Kambubi, said they suspect that some people whom they evicted over failure to settle rentals were behind the incident.
“My boss informed me that he had received a phone call from police saying the premises had been gutted by fire. Our neighbours had tried to call him earlier but he missed their phone calls as he was asleep.
“We are still wondering who could have started the fire but we have potential suspects whom we can’t name here as this may jeopardise investigations,” said Mr Kambubi.

Mugabe Actually Kept US$1m Cash At His Rural Home For Two Years

THE case in which relatives of former President Robert Mugabe allegedly stole UD$150 000 cash from his rural home in Zvimba has taken a shocking twist, with Mr. Mugabe claiming his relatives actually stole close to US$1 million cash.
This came to light yesterday when Mugabe, through his lawyers, updated the court papers to reflect that he actually lost US$922,000 cash which was in a briefcase at his rural mansion.
The prosecution led by Mrs Kessia Teveraishe alleges that in 2016, Mugabe packed books in four briefcases. He took them to his library at his homestead in Zvimba.
Mugabe included a black polo briefcase containing US$1 million. He gave his house keeper Constance the briefcase for safekeeping.
Mugabe, the court heard, did not tell her what the briefcase contained.
On March 1, 2018, Mugabe demanded the briefcase from Constance.
She allegedly professed ignorance about its whereabouts but promised to look for it.
Mugabe later ordered one of his employees, Edson Jemwa, who is the group human resources manager at Gushungo Holdings, to look for the briefcase on January 6 this year. He had received news on how the suspects were living luxuriously.
Jemwa went to Mugabe’s homestead in Zvimba, according to the State, where Constance led him to the recovery of one Amiet briefcase and another Blue Deisey Club briefcase at the former President’s summer house.
The Black Polo Club briefcase was recovered from Mugabe’s main bedroom. A police report was made and the suspects were arrested.
The bags were taken to Mugabe’s home in Harare without verifying the contents with the suspects or the police.
Mugabe, who was in Dubai, reportedly identified the Black Polo Club bag as the one which went missing when he returned to Harare.
He discovered the bag now had US$78 000 instead of US$1m. The four were arrested.
During investigations, police discovered that Mapurisa, who was employed as a caretaker, bought a house for US$20 000 at Murombedzi Growth Point. He registered it in the name of his wife, Noticia Sibindi.
He also bought a Toyota Camry for US$6 800.
The vehicle was recovered by the police.
Nheketwa, another caretaker, allegedly bought a Honda Fit. It was also recovered.
The court also heard that Muhumbe, employed as a groundsman, bought a Honda CRV and registered it in his brother, Emmanuel’s name.
The vehicle was also recovered. Police also recovered US$42 800 from the suspects.
The suspects are out on $2,000 bail each.
The suspects – Constancia Mugabe (50), Johanne Mapurisa (50) and Saymore Nhetekwa (47), appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Mr Felix Mawadze yesterday facing theft charges.

“Zimbabwe Women’s Groups A Disgrace!”
By Ndaba Nhuku| They spend time on gossip. Talking about who has slept with who. Posting their naked bodies. Discussing others’ lives. Being cyber bullies to boost their rotten egos. Seeking funds for fake projects.
Lord help them, their silence over the issues affecting women over the last two weeks is shocking. Their silence about the rape committed by ZNA is shocking. This is how Gukurahundi happened with people pretending not to know or have heard about it.
If all women spoke strongly they would make change come. Sadly most are mere opportunists after lining their own pockets without care.
