Is George Charamba Sincere Over Toll Fee for ZANU Cars?

Harare, Zimbabwe – March 1, 2025

Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba recently issued a directive mandating that all Zanu PF vehicles comply with toll fee regulations, emphasizing that no entity, including government departments and the Office of the President, is exempt from paying toll fees. Charamba stated that government departments make annual payments to the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) and receive certificates confirming this arrangement.

However, this directive has sparked a national conversation about the enforcement of ethical standards within the party, particularly concerning Charamba’s own adherence to these regulations. Critics point out a lack of transparency regarding whether Charamba has publicly demonstrated his compliance with the toll fee requirements, leading to questions about the practicability and sincerity of his directive.

This situation highlights a broader issue in the political landscape, where calls for ethical conduct are often undermined by a lack of accountability and transparency among leadership. The effectiveness of Charamba’s directive may be compromised if leaders do not lead by example, potentially perpetuating a culture of impunity.

The incident also suggests systemic challenges in enforcing ethical standards within political parties and government institutions. Without mechanisms for public accountability and transparency, directives aimed at curbing misconduct may fail to produce meaningful change.

Mum Watches Own Daughter Being Raped

Mutare Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Facilitating Daughter’s Rape

Mutare, Zimbabwe – March 1, 2025

A 43-year-old woman from Penhalonga has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Mutare Magistrates’ Court for facilitating the rape of her 6-year-old daughter in 2022. The shocking details of the case have left the community reeling, as the court heard how the mother played an active role in the abuse.

According to court records, the woman assisted an unidentified adult male in raping her young daughter. The horrific incident occurred one afternoon shortly after the child returned home from school. The mother reportedly undressed the child while the man sat watching on the bed. She then instructed the child to lie down, allowing the man to carry out the assault while she sat nearby, observing from a chair in the bedroom.

The crime came to light in April 2024 when the child, now living with her grandmother, began showing signs of urinary incontinence. Concerned for the child’s health, the grandmother sought medical attention, leading to the child revealing the traumatic abuse. During this time, the child disclosed the role her mother played in the incident, leading to the mother’s arrest and subsequent conviction.

The sentencing has prompted widespread condemnation from child rights advocates and community leaders, who are calling for greater protection measures for vulnerable children. Meanwhile, authorities are still working to identify the male perpetrator, urging anyone with information to come forward.

This deeply disturbing case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers some children face within their own homes and underscores the importance of vigilance and intervention to protect innocent lives.

Mnangagwa’s Liberation War Status Under Scrutiny

By A Correspondent

While not explicitly naming Joshua Nkomo, Taurai Kandishaya’s recent comments imply that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is greater than iconic liberation war figures such as the late ZAPU leader, Nkomo. Kandishaya, the Deputy Political Commissar of the Zanu PF Youth League, made these bold statements about Mnangagwa on Thursday while emphasizing the President’s pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

“Very fit and up to date. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the most senior and experienced veteran of the Struggle for total independence and sovereignty worldwide. He confronted imperialism, fought it, conquered it and collapsed it,” Kandishaya declared, elevating Mnangagwa’s status as a central figure in Zimbabwe’s fight for independence.

However, Kandishaya’s remarks have sparked controversy as they seem to diminish the contributions of other key liberation leaders such as Joshua Nkomo, Josiah Tongogara, Ndabaningi Sithole, Robert Mugabe, and Rex Nhongo. These leaders are long regarded as foundational figures in the country’s independence movement, and Kandishaya’s words suggest a revisionist narrative that could overshadow their roles.

Although the Deputy Political Commissar’s comments highlight Mnangagwa’s significant involvement, particularly in the battle against imperialism, they raise concerns about the broader historical context of Zimbabwe’s liberation war. The comments have drawn attention to how political figures reinterpret the nation’s history to serve current agendas, with Mnangagwa being positioned at the forefront.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, many will be closely watching how these claims are received, especially in relation to the legacies of Zimbabwe’s revered war heroes. Kandishaya’s statement further fuels the ongoing debate about the legacy and recognition of key liberation figures in Zimbabwe.

Chaos As Shortage Of Water Hits Nemamwa Growth Point

By A Correspondent

The water crisis at Nemamwa Growth Point, the largest township in Masvingo rural with approximately 6,000 households, is quickly escalating into a public health concern.

The area has gone without tap water for over a month, leaving residents to rely on borehole and rainwater.

The lack of access to clean water has significantly raised the risk of a cholera outbreak, a serious and deadly disease transmitted through contaminated water sources.

The situation is compounded by the fact that Nemamwa Growth Point, which is only about 3 kilometers from the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is seeing its tourism and hospitality sectors suffer.

The water crisis is not only affecting daily life but is also impacting the local economy, as visitors to the area are now less likely to enjoy their stay without access to reliable water supplies.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) is at the heart of the crisis. According to a ZINWA official, the situation worsened when a transformer that supplies electricity to the water plant was vandalized, further hampering the provision of water to the township.

“Although there has been vandalism of the ZESA transformer, there is lack of motivation as well,” the official explained, highlighting the ongoing challenges that the authority is facing in restoring services to the community.

Residents of Nemamwa are growing increasingly frustrated, as the absence of clean water makes everyday life more difficult. Many fear the impending threat of cholera, which has claimed countless lives in Zimbabwe in the past.

The situation calls for immediate action from both local and national authorities to address the water crisis and prevent a potential health disaster. Given the proximity to Great Zimbabwe, ensuring a sustainable water supply is not only vital for the well-being of residents but also for preserving the tourism potential of the area.

EPL Title : Arteta Refuses To Throw In Towel

Sports Correspondent

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refused to give up on the English Premier League title race, despite his team’s recent slip in form.

The Gunners, currently second in the Premier League standings, lost valuable ground in the title battle after a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. The result leaves them 13 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Arteta, speaking to ESPN, remained defiant: “It was the same a week ago, two weeks ago, three months ago. The only thing we can do is win our matches and see how many points we accumulate. We’ve dropped two points in this game, and it’s painful. It doesn’t feel good because we’re here to win.”

He continued, “We showed undeniable character in how much we wanted it and tried. We dominated the game, tried in many different ways, and kept insisting. But we lacked that spark, that final pass to break down a well-organized team. We need to generate more shots on target.”

No Freedom For Blessed Mhlanga

By A Correspondent

Harare magistrate Farai Gwatima has denied bail to journalist Blessed Mhlanga and remanded him in custody until March 14.

The magistrate argued that releasing the accused would disturb the nation’s peace and security, potentially leading to unrest.

Mhlanga, a journalist with Alpha Media Holdings, has faced intimidation from State Security agents due to his work interviewing political figures.

Mhlanga, who works for the HStv platform, was arrested on February 24, 2025, under accusations of violating Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. Authorities allege that he transmitted messages that incite violence, linked to interviews with war veterans’ leader Blessed Geza and others.

The police investigation follows remarks made during interviews on January 27, 2025, and February 11, 2025, in which Geza, a former liberation war veteran and Zanu PF central committee member, allegedly made inflammatory statements. During the interrogation, the police focused on Mhlanga’s role as a journalist and the press conferences held by Geza.

Latvian Man Jailed Over Drug Smuggling

By A Correspondent

A 27-year-old Latvian man, Vitalis Kudrjasovs, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after attempting to smuggle 8.35 kilograms of heroin through Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

The court was informed that in September 2022, Kudrjasovs arrived at the airport, cleared all customs procedures, and checked in his luggage for baggage screening. However, airport security flagged his luggage after suspicious items were detected during a ground scan.

Upon further inspection, four packages containing heroin were found hidden in compartments of the luggage. In addition to his 15-year sentence, Kudrjasovs was fined US$5,000. Should he fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional five years in prison.

Mnangagwa Deploys 900 New Cops As Chiwenga Camp Plans Uprising

Pass-out-parade

By Munacho Gwamanda-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has deployed 900 newly passed-out police officers ahead of a mass demonstration against his rule, planned for March 31 by a pro-Chiwenga faction.

The protest, spearheaded by a figure known as Malcom—believed to be based in South Africa—is mobilizing against Mnangagwa’s controversial 2030 agenda, which aims to extend his grip on power.

The brewing political storm came into the spotlight on Sunday when a group of disgruntled women ambushed self-styled cleric and Zanu PF apologist Obediah Msindo he had allegedly used for political campaigns without compensating them.

The confrontation took place at his usual Rainbow Towers hotel venue, where the women accused him of betrayal.

In response, Msindo alleged that they were being manipulated by Malcom.

Malcom later took to social media to declare that the March 31 demonstration would target Mnangagwa and his key allies, including businessman Wicknell Chivayo, fuel mogul Kuda Tagwirei, and Zanu PF loyalist Paul Tungwarara.

The group vowed to “nip Mnangagwa and his bootlickers from the bud” over allegations of corruption and misgovernance.

On Thursday, Mnangagwa officiated at the passing-out parade of 907 police officers at Morris Depot, with 624 males and 283 females completing their training.

However, the most notable aspect of the event was the conspicuous absence of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, a key figure in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Chiwenga was the only senior member of the Presidium missing from the high-profile event, raising fresh speculation about the escalating power struggle between him and Mnangagwa.

The event was attended by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri, CIO Minister Lovemore Matuke, Higher Education Minister Frederick Shava, and Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Minister Christopher Magomo, among others.

Security chiefs were also present, alongside Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) chairperson Michael Reza and Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) director-general Dr. Gift Machengete.

Chiwenga’s absence was not an isolated incident.

He has repeatedly skipped key state functions presided over by Mnangagwa, fueling speculation that he is deliberately distancing himself from the administration as tensions escalate within Zanu PF.

The rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga dates back to the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe.

Chiwenga, then the commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, played a pivotal role in installing Mnangagwa as president.

However, their alliance has since soured, with Chiwenga and his military allies growing increasingly frustrated over Mnangagwa’s manoeuvres to consolidate power and extend his rule beyond 2028.

Sources within Zanu PF indicate that the two leaders had a gentleman’s agreement that Mnangagwa would serve two terms before handing power to Chiwenga.

However, Mnangagwa appears to have reneged on this arrangement, instead positioning himself for an extended stay in office.

Chiwenga’s faction within Zanu PF and the security forces is now reportedly mobilizing against Mnangagwa’s bid to extend his presidency, with the March 31 demonstration serving as a major flashpoint in their deteriorating relationship.

The security sector, once a unified force behind Mnangagwa, is now deeply divided, with some elements reportedly backing Chiwenga’s push for leadership change.

Stay Safe on the Road: The Importance of Visibility for Pedestrians and Cyclists

When it comes to road safety, visibility is a key factor in preventing accidents, especially during the darker hours of the day. Whether you’re walking, cycling, or driving, ensuring that you’re seen by others can make all the difference. The best advice for pedestrians and cyclists is simple: wear fluorescent clothing during the day and reflective gear at night—or, better yet, wear both. This combination can significantly increase your visibility, reducing the risk of accidents.

The Power of Fluorescent Colors in Daylight

Fluorescent clothing, often brightly colored in neon shades such as yellow, green, or orange, is designed to stand out in daylight. These colors are highly visible during the day, even in low-light conditions such as foggy weather or overcast skies. The bright hues catch the light, making it easier for drivers and riders to spot you from a distance, giving them more time to react.

Reflective Gear for Nighttime Visibility

At night, fluorescent colors lose their effectiveness. That’s where reflective gear comes into play. Reflective materials work by bouncing light back toward its source—usually the headlights of vehicles. When walking or cycling after dark, wearing reflective strips or vests can make you visible from hundreds of meters away, even in pitch-black conditions. This simple addition to your clothing or bike gear can significantly improve your chances of being seen by drivers.

A Shared Responsibility on the Road

For drivers and riders, the responsibility extends beyond just looking out for other vehicles. Vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, are at a higher risk of injury or death in the event of an accident. Drivers should always be extra vigilant, especially at night or in areas where pedestrians and cyclists are likely to be present. It’s important to slow down, keep an eye out for reflective materials or bright clothing, and always be prepared to react to the unexpected.

Conclusion: Safety for All

The road is a shared space, and it’s essential that everyone takes steps to ensure their safety. Whether you’re on foot, on a bike, or behind the wheel, visibility should always be a priority. Wearing fluorescent clothing during the day and reflective gear at night is a simple yet effective way to stay safe. Drivers, in turn, must be proactive in looking out for those more vulnerable on the road. By working together and prioritizing visibility, we can all contribute to safer streets for everyone.

Zanu PF Heavyweights Position Themselves To Grab Commercial Stands In Masvingo

By A Correspondent

The plan to develop a new Central Business District (CBD) in Masvingo City, while seemingly a promising and logical initiative, is already facing challenges as Zanu PF heavyweights position themselves to claim the land designated for the project.

Masvingo City is set to begin developing the new CBD in August this year.

The new district will be built on a 24-hectare piece of land situated between Ndarama High School and Mucheke River.

It will also stretch from the area near the Benjamin Burombo Government building to Old Railways, located in the southeast of the current CBD.

The new development will effectively divide Masvingo City by Mucheke River, one of the main tributaries of Lake Mutirikwi.

This expansion of the CBD is part of the city’s 20-year master plan, which outlines its growth trajectory through to 2040, with aspirations of becoming an industrialized metropolitan by 2030.

The move to develop the new CBD comes in response to the growing demand for commercial stands within the city.

The area will feature shopping malls and a hotel, overlooking the newly refurbished Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.

However, a local councillor, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed concerns about the project being hijacked by Zanu PF heavyweights.

“The whole project has been seized by Zanu PF heavyweights. On paper, it’s a good idea, but in reality, Zanu PF land barons have already taken control of it,” the councillor stated.

Zanu PF Youth Leader Claims Mnangagwa Is Most Senior Liberation War Cadre

By A Correspondent

Taurai Kandishaya, the Deputy Political Commissar of the Zanu PF Youth League, recently made bold remarks about President Emmerson Mnangagwa, declaring him to be the most senior liberation war cadre in Zimbabwe.

Kandishaya made these comments on Thursday as he extolled Mnangagwa’s role in the country’s liberation struggle.

“Very fit and up to date. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the most senior and experienced veteran of the Struggle for total independence and sovereignty worldwide.

He confronted imperialism, fought it, conquered it and collapsed it,” Kandishaya stated, further elevating Mnangagwa’s stature as a liberation war hero.

Kandishaya’s words, which strongly position Mnangagwa at the pinnacle of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, have sparked controversy and concern, as they appear to undermine the legacies of other prominent figures in Zimbabwe’s fight for independence.

The likes of Joshua Nkomo, Josiah Tongogara, Ndabaningi Sithole, Robert Mugabe, and Rex Nhongo have long been regarded as critical figures in the liberation movement, and Kandishaya’s comments suggest a revisionist view that could overshadow their contributions.

While the Deputy Political Commissar’s statement highlights Mnangagwa’s significant role in the struggle, especially his involvement in the fight against imperialism, it raises questions about the broader narrative of Zimbabwe’s liberation war history.

Many will now be watching closely to see how the political landscape responds to such a declaration, which places Mnangagwa in an even more prominent position among the country’s war veterans.

Kandishaya’s claim adds to the ongoing debate within Zimbabwe’s political circles, where the legacies of liberation war heroes are often contested and reinterpreted to serve current political agendas.

Trevor Ncube: I Am The One Who Should be Brought Before the Courts

Mhlanga Denied Bail in High-Profile Incitement Case.

“We are confident in due time, Blessed is going to be allowed to enjoy the freedom that all of us are currently enjoying,” says @TrevorNcube.

He continues: “I think fundamentally important is the fact that there wasn’t any indication that the court realizes that you’re dealing with freedom of expression and press freedom, and that Blessed @bbmhlanga did not say any of the stuff that he is alleged to have said, I mean, and Blessed is not @NewsDayZimbabwe @AMH.

Blessed is not AMH. He’s just a journalist practicing his profession, which is constitutionally protected, just like you guys are doing here, broadcasting to the public at home. You can’t be accused of inciting the public for broadcasting what I’m saying right now; I am the one who should be brought before the courts, not the journalists who transmit the information. So I’m disappointed in that, in that regard, but this is reality that we are in right now.

Unfortunately, President Mnangagwa owns the courts. They have said they own the military, they own the police, they will do as they please. We will continue; I mean, I’m sure the lawyers will do what is right, but what we saw happening today is not fair; It is not justice, and our Constitution does not support what has just taken place here. Thank you, good people. “

Question: But is it safe now for journalists to interview someone who’s being accused?

“Well, I think the it’s clear to me that all of you, under the current circumstances, having seen what you’ve seen out there. You do this job at your own risk, because the court is not going to protect you. The court is going to sign rather than journalists on behalf of the public.

Doing this on behalf of the public, your role is to inform you are conveyor belts in a way. Of course, you you, you’re supposed to to come in and control the quality of what you broadcast. But what we saw happening today says none of you is safe because you are going to- they will come for you for what you’ve written. They’ll come for you for what you’ve broadcast. But should that be should that make us afraid? No, it should not make us afraid. We should still continue to do what is right by law, what is right by our Constitution, and what the public expects us to do

Question: What does this mean in terms of…?

“very very bad. So what is important to realize is the link between and the application of the law in a manner that is transparent, in a manner that shows that there’s fairness, that there’s justification of the law in our country, the innocent and the weak are subjected in a selective manner,” concludes @TrevorNcube

By A Correspondent | In a closely watched legal battle, Magistrate Farai Gwatima today ruled against granting bail to the accused, Mhlanga, citing compelling reasons provided by the prosecution. The magistrate emphasized that the prosecution’s responsibility in bail applications is to demonstrate the existence of compelling reasons why the accused should not be released.

Gwatima praised both the State and defense for their exemplary conduct during the proceedings, describing their behavior as “refreshing and amazing.” He noted that this professionalism allowed the legal process to proceed smoothly without unnecessary legal obstacles.

State’s Arguments Against Bail

The prosecution, led by Ruvimbo Matyatya, argued that Mhlanga posed a significant risk of interfering with witnesses, many of whom are his juniors. Matyatya pointed out that some witness statements were yet to be recorded, increasing the likelihood of interference if Mhlanga were released.

Additionally, the State raised concerns that some of the machinery used in the alleged offense had not been recovered. There was a fear that Mhlanga could reoffend using the same tools if granted bail. However, the prosecution did acknowledge that Mhlanga had voluntarily surrendered to the police and had not attempted to flee.

Defense’s Counterarguments Rejected

The defense, led by Mhike, argued that the prosecution’s submissions lacked merit. He noted that the witnesses’ identities were not disclosed and denied allegations that Mhlanga had incited violence.

Despite these arguments, Magistrate Gwatima upheld the State’s position. He stated, “What is an issue is not that the applicant gathered and disseminated information. It is that the information which he gathered was intended to incite public violence.”

Balancing Constitutional Rights and Public Safety

In his ruling, Gwatima stressed the delicate balance between upholding constitutional rights and maintaining public safety. “The admission to bail has been elevated to a constitutional right. But our Constitution is not novel,” he remarked, adding that the right to bail is not absolute.

He warned against denying bail on “flimsy reasons” but noted that the court must weigh the interests of the accused against potential risks to public safety and the administration of justice. “It is a delicate discretion,” he said, emphasizing the need for strong evidence to support claims that an accused might abscond or interfere with investigations.

Key Reasons for Bail Denial

The magistrate identified specific concerns in this case, particularly Mhlanga’s position at work, which could enable him to interfere with witnesses. The fact that some witnesses had not yet retired from their roles added to the risk that investigations could be jeopardized.

Gwatima concluded, “What clearly emerges is that the disseminated message will incite violence. Any interpretation to the contrary is incorrect. Accordingly, the release of the accused will put the nation in unrest and undermine peace and security.”

Conclusion: Bail Denied

In light of the compelling reasons presented by the State, Magistrate Gwatima ruled that Mhlanga’s continued detention was justified. “Accordingly, bail is denied,” he declared, bringing the intense courtroom drama to a close.

This ruling is expected to generate significant public discourse, with implications for how future bail applications involving allegations of incitement and public safety risks are handled.

Riot cop blocks entrance

Harare, Zimbabwe – February 28, 2025

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Tensions were high at the Harare Magistrates Court today as anti-riot police officers stormed the premises ahead of the highly anticipated bail ruling for journalist Blessed Mhlanga. The officers, clad in full riot gear, were seen manning the entrance of Court 9, maintaining a strict watch over those entering the courtroom.

There was a mix of legal representatives, court officials, and members of the public gathered outside the courtroom. The heavy police presence raised concerns about potential unrest, though the atmosphere appeared controlled yet tense.

Crowd corridors

Court Proceedings Delayed

Sources at the court reported delays in the bail ruling, contributing to the growing unease among attendees. The exact reasons for the delays remain unclear, but legal experts suggest procedural issues may be at play. Mhlanga’s legal team was seen engaging with court officials as they awaited further instructions.

Security Measures Tightened

The deployment of anti-riot police at the court indicates the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case. Officers were stationed at strategic points, ensuring all individuals passed through a monitored entry process. This heightened security has become a common feature in high-profile court cases in Zimbabwe, particularly those involving media personnel or political figures.

Blessed Mhlanga, a prominent journalist, has been in custody amid allegations yet to be fully disclosed by the authorities. His arrest has sparked a wave of reactions from local and international media rights organizations, calling for transparency and respect for media freedoms.

What’s Next?

As the bail ruling is awaited, all eyes remain on the Harare Magistrates Court. The outcome could set a significant precedent, not only for Mhlanga’s case but also for the broader state of media freedom in Zimbabwe.

72% Zim Men Raising Children Not Theirs-Report

By Munacho Gwamanda- A growing number of Zimbabwean men are discovering they have been unknowingly raising children who are not biologically theirs, as DNA testing exposes shocking levels of paternity fraud.

According to Global DNA Zimbabwe, 72% of paternity tests conducted reveal that the presumed fathers are not the biological parents—a statistic that has left many families shattered.

The surge in DNA testing can largely be attributed to Tinashe Mugabe, the founder of Global DNA Zimbabwe and host of the controversial television program, The Closure DNA Show.

Launched in 2021, the show has become infamous for its dramatic on-air paternity revelations that have led to public outbursts, heartbreak, and family breakdowns.

Mugabe’s show features individuals—mostly men—seeking DNA tests to confirm paternity.

The results are revealed on air, often leading to explosive emotional reactions from those involved.

The show has sparked fierce debate, with supporters praising it for exposing the truth, while critics argue it is sensationalizing private matters and humiliating families.

Partners Chiriseri, a representative from Global DNA Zimbabwe, revealed to a local health news portal that suspicions of infidelity drive most men to request paternity tests. He explained:

“The current statistics for people who have undergone testing are both shocking and interesting. Most clients come for paternity tests, and currently, 72% of the results issued are negative, while only 28% are positive.”

For many men, these revelations come as a devastating betrayal, leading to the collapse of marriages and long-standing relationships.

Some fathers cut ties with the children they once loved, while others struggle with the emotional turmoil of continuing to raise a child they are not biologically connected to.

Despite the controversy, Mugabe defends the show, arguing that DNA testing empowers individuals with the truth, allowing them to make informed decisions about their relationships and responsibilities.

While paternity tests dominate DNA services in Zimbabwe, Chiriseri highlighted that DNA testing serves several other critical functions, including:

  • Immigration applications – Many countries, including the UK and the US, require DNA proof of biological relationships for visa approvals.
  • DNA profiling for future use – Some individuals store their genetic information for potential identification in cases of accidents or missing persons.
  • Criminal investigations – DNA is increasingly used in rape cases and forensic investigations, helping authorities identify suspects.

Countries like the United States already have national DNA databases for criminals. If Zimbabwe were to adopt a similar system, it could revolutionize crime-solving efforts.

The rise of DNA testing has ignited a cultural shift in Zimbabwe, challenging long-held beliefs about trust, family, and fatherhood.

While some men appreciate the certainty that DNA tests provide, others argue that this trend is destroying families and promoting suspicion.

Chinamasa Robbed, Loses Car & Gun

By Munacho Gwamanda-Long-serving Cabinet minister and Zanu PF legal guru Patrick Chinamasa has fallen victim to a daring robbery at his Rusape farm.

A gang of four robbers stormed the property, subduing the security guard and farm manager before ransacking the house in search of money.

“They tied the hands of the farm manager and security guard, force-marched them inside, and covered them with blankets. They overturned beds and sofas, looking for cash, which fortunately was not there,” said Mrs. Chinamasa.

The robbers made off with a brand-new blue Mazda BT-50 double cab, which had only travelled 12,000 km, along with a pistol from the gun cabinet, a box of cocking oil, and a set of kitchen knives.

“They drove away in my car. We suspect they arrived in a white Toyota Wish. Police from Headlands responded the same night, and the case has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department in Rusape,” she added.

Authorities are investigating the heist, which appears to have been a calculated attempt to steal money and valuables.

Top Zim Journalist Dies, Buried In London

The late Lewis Machipisa

By Munacho Gwamanada-Veteran Zimbabwean journalist and long-serving BBC World Service correspondent Lewis Machipisa, was laid to rest in London on Thursday, nearly two months after his passing.

Machipisa, who dedicated his life to journalism and was widely respected for his humility and professionalism, died in his sleep at his home in Catford, Southeast London, on January 7, 2025.

He was 52.

His burial was attended by close relatives and members of the Zimbabwean journalism fraternity based in the United Kingdom, who paid their last respects to a man many described as a mentor, a friend, and an unwavering voice for truth.

Machipisa’s journey in journalism began at Harare Polytechnic’s School of Journalism in 1991.

His natural curiosity and deep commitment to storytelling saw him rise quickly in the profession. He started his career as a correspondent for Inter Press Service (IPS) in Harare in 1993, where he gained recognition for his incisive reporting on human rights, governance, and social justice issues.

His work at IPS gave a voice to marginalized communities and held those in power accountable.

His talent soon caught the attention of the BBC World Service, and he joined their Zimbabwe bureau, where he reported on key political and economic developments during a time of increasing state restrictions on the media.

His balanced and fearless reporting won him accolades and respect from colleagues and audiences alike.

In the early 2000s, as Zimbabwe’s political landscape became more hostile to independent journalists, Machipisa relocated to London, joining the ranks of many exiled Zimbabwean journalists.

At the BBC World Service, he continued his passionate work, covering Southern African affairs with integrity and depth.

His ability to explain complex issues with clarity and nuance made him a trusted voice on Zimbabwean affairs.

Beyond his professional achievements, Machipisa was known for his kindness and humility.

Colleagues and friends remember him as a generous mentor who was always willing to share his knowledge with younger journalists.

Despite his high-profile career, he remained down-to-earth, approachable, and deeply connected to the Zimbabwean diaspora community in the UK.

He often used his platform to support initiatives aimed at empowering Zimbabwean journalists and advocating for press freedom.

His passing leaves a significant void in the media fraternity, particularly among Zimbabwean journalists in exile, who looked up to him as a guiding figure.

Rest in peace, Lewis Machipisa. Your voice may be gone, but your work and influence will endure.

EMA Forces Closure Of Ran Mine In Bindura

By A Correspondent

The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has temporarily shut down Ran Mine in Bindura following the discovery of cyanide traces in the water supply of Chipadze suburb. This contamination resulted from a water spillage on Thursday from the mine’s slime dam, raising serious concerns about public health.

The shutdown is intended to give authorities more time to address the environmental and health risks posed by the spillage, which has not only affected the local water supply but also led to the death of fish in Pote River and Arcadia dams.

Maxwell Mupotsa, EMA’s Provincial Environment and Publicity Officer, explained the agency’s findings: “Our laboratory analysis from Thursday up to today has been sampling boreholes and streams close to Mushambanhaka into Pote River, where there are reports of fish dying. We found that there are traces of cyanide in the area as well as clusters in Chipadze. We ordered them to stop operations and focus mainly on this health hazard.”

The mine’s temporary closure follows a meeting of the Bindura Civil Protection Unit on Wednesday, which reviewed the laboratory results and agreed on an immediate community awareness campaign to address the contamination issue.

Environmental Health Officer Fungai Mangwambi urged residents to take precautions: “We just advised the community not to use the water from their wells because they are not fully protected. They must use the reticulated water from the council or local authority, which is a bit safer as from now, since we are expecting underground contamination.”

However, the situation has left Chipadze residents divided. While some expressed confusion and concern, others questioned the previous assurances given by the mine. One resident shared their frustration: “We were told the mine conducted tests and the water was safe, but we saw with our own eyes that vegetables and trees were affected. On top of that, we have some shallow wells, and now we are surprised we are being told not to use the water. Our health is now at risk because we have been drinking that water.”

Another resident added, “We are no longer sure what to believe because when they tested, they said the water was safe. Now we are being told not to wash plates after hearing that fish, especially catfish, died at Pote.”

A disabled resident, concerned about the potential health risks, expressed worry about the water’s reach: “I use a wheelchair, and when I pass my gate, there is water. I don’t know to what extent I will be affected since I handle that water when wheeling my wheelchair.”

As authorities continue to monitor the situation, Chipadze residents remain anxious about the safety of their water and their health.

Robbers Drive Off With Patrick Chinamasa’s Twin Cab And Gun

Robbers Raid ZANU PF Legal Secretary Patrick Chinamasa’s Farm, Steal Vehicle and Gun

Headlands, Zimbabwe — In a daring heist, armed robbers raided the farm of ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Patrick Chinamasa, making off with a brand-new Mazda BT-50 double cab vehicle, a pistol, and other valuables.

The robbery occurred under the cover of darkness when four men overpowered the security guard stationed at the main entrance of the farm before targeting the farm manager. The suspects tied up both men, force-marched them into the main farmhouse, and covered them with blankets while they ransacked the property.

Cars

Details of the Heist

According to Mrs. Chinamasa, the robbers were thorough in their search for money, overturning beds, sofas, and combing through every room in the house.

“They took the car keys of my brand-new Mazda BT-50, blue in color, which we were yet to register. It had only travelled for 12,000 km. They also took a pistol from the gun cabinet, a box of cocking oil, and a set of kitchen knives. It was more of the money which they wanted,” Mrs. Chinamasa told Manila Post.

The robbers are believed to have arrived at the farm in a white Toyota Wish vehicle, which may have been used as their getaway car.

Police Investigation Underway

The incident was reported to local authorities the same night, and officers from Headlands responded promptly to record statements. The case has now been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Rusape for further investigation.

Police are actively pursuing leads and have launched a manhunt for the robbers. Meanwhile, security has been tightened at the farm as investigations continue.

Community on High Alert

The brazen nature of the robbery has left the local community on edge, with residents expressing concerns over rising crime in the area. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

This high-profile robbery has also sparked political and security concerns, as Patrick Chinamasa is a prominent figure within the ruling ZANU PF party.

N’anga Successfully Steals Cop’s USD20,000

Traditional Healer Jailed for Theft and Money Laundering in $20,100 Scam.

Mutare, Zimbabwe — A traditional healer from Matondo Village in Chigodora, Petros Chiropa (35), has been sentenced to 54 months in prison after being found guilty of theft of trust property and money laundering involving US$20,100.

Mutare provincial magistrate, Ms. Annie Ndiraya, delivered the verdict, ordering Chiropa to also restitute US$8,100 to his victim, Assistant Commissioner Florence Marume of the Zimbabwe Republic Police in Masvingo. Prosecutor Mr. Tafadzwa Zulu led the State’s case against Chiropa.

The Crime and Court Proceedings

Chiropa was convicted on two counts of theft of trust property under Section 133 (2)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23, as well as contravening the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act, Chapter 9:23.

The court heard that Assistant Commissioner Marume had entrusted her domestic worker, Precious Nyasha Manyawu, with US$20,100 for safekeeping. However, when Marume requested the money on December 16, 2023, Manyawu failed to produce it, prompting an investigation.

It was discovered that Chiropa, with Manyawu’s assistance, had stolen the money and spent it on lavish items, including a Toyota Runx, household furniture, a 55-inch plasma TV, and a solar panel.

A Romantic Plot Unveiled

The trial exposed a romantic relationship between Chiropa and Manyawu, through which they allegedly hatched the plan to steal from Marume. Manyawu, who had been a trusted domestic worker for eight years, has already been punished and is currently serving her sentence at Mutare Remand Prison.

Chiropa initially pleaded not guilty, claiming the charges were fabricated and asserting his status as a “famous traditional healer of means.” He further muddied his defense by offering inconsistent statements about his profession, at one point claiming to also be a truck driver and businessman.

Absconding and Arrest

The trial was marked by Chiropa’s initial release on bail, after which he absconded. Authorities later re-arrested him, and he was held in remand prison for violating bail conditions.

Magistrate Ms. Ndiraya noted the overwhelming evidence against Chiropa, including his influence over Manyawu and his extravagant expenditures following the theft.

Legal and Community Repercussions

The case has drawn widespread attention, particularly regarding the abuse of trust and the role of traditional healers in Zimbabwean society. The harsh sentence and restitution order serve as a warning against financial crimes and the abuse of social and professional influence.

Chiropa’s sentencing brings some closure to Assistant Commissioner Marume, who has since recovered US$12,000 of the stolen amount.

The case highlights the need for vigilance in handling trust property and reinforces the legal consequences of betrayal and financial misconduct.

Free US$30,000 Bank Glitch Case

By A Correspondent | Bulawayo, Zimbabwe — A Bulawayo couple accused of exploiting a technical glitch at Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe to allegedly spend over US$30,000 both in Zimbabwe and South Africa will learn their fate today as the court delivers its verdict.

Frank Sibanda (65) and his wife, Fransisca Netsai Sibanda (65), of Pelandaba suburb, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mrs. Dambudzo Malunga, facing 47 counts of theft. The couple, currently out on US$500 bail each, has maintained their innocence, claiming they believed the funds were deposited by their daughter, Rudo Sibanda, who resides in Harare.

The State closed its case after calling two witnesses to testify against the couple. As part of their bail conditions, the Sibandas were required to surrender their passports, report twice a week at Bulawayo Central Police Station, and remain at their registered address.

How the Alleged Fraud Unfolded

According to prosecutor Mr. Owen Mugari, the saga began on February 5 last year when Fransisca opened a Silver banking segment account at Stanbic Bank’s Joshua Nkomo Street branch. Her daughter, Rudo, had allegedly falsely declared that her mother was an employee of her Harare-based company, Cominergy Construction Mining Energy, to facilitate the account opening.

Fransisca was subsequently issued a Visa chip-and-PIN card for transactions. The alleged fraudulent activity started on April 5 when Fransisca attempted a US$17.95 purchase at National Foods Bulawayo using a Steward Bank point-of-sale (POS) machine. When the transaction failed, Steward Bank initiated a standard reversal process through ZimSwitch.

However, due to a technical error, the reversal was processed with a grossly overstated amount of ZWG579,116.21, which was mistakenly auto-converted and credited into Fransisca’s Stanbic US dollar account. This unexpected windfall resulted in a deposit of US$40,850.86.

Forensic Audit Exposes Discrepancy

The alleged misuse of funds came to light following a routine forensic audit by Stanbic Bank, which revealed significant discrepancies in its financial records. The audit findings prompted an investigation that led to the couple’s arrest.

While the prosecution argued that the Sibandas knowingly exploited the glitch, the defense maintained that they had no reason to suspect the funds did not originate from their daughter.

A Community Holds Its Breath

The case has captured public attention, with many eagerly awaiting the court’s ruling. A guilty verdict could lead to severe legal consequences for the elderly couple, while an acquittal would raise questions about the bank’s internal controls and oversight mechanisms.

The verdict is expected to set a precedent in Zimbabwean legal circles, particularly concerning cases involving financial institutions and technical errors.

Overzealous Mahiya Attacks Geza…

By A Correspondent

War veterans leader Douglas Mahiya has accused Blessed Geza of being a “bogus” war veteran. Mahiya’s comments came during the launch of The Harare Province Presidential War Veterans Fund at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare on Tuesday.

“We are war veterans, and a trained cadre will not, at any given point, insult the party leadership. The one who is doing that is not a genuine war veteran. Never ever insult the party leadership. It shows lack of discipline,” Mahiya said, referring to Geza’s controversial remarks.

Geza had recently challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s attempt to stay in power beyond his constitutional mandate, sparking a public dispute. Mahiya’s strong words were aimed at those within the war veterans’ community who, according to him, failed to show respect and loyalty to the party leadership.

His remarks highlighted the growing divisions within ZANU PF, with some war veterans openly questioning the President’s political longevity. However, Mahiya made it clear that such behavior was incompatible with the values of genuine war veterans.

Tough Luck Mighty Warriors

Sports Correspondent

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has heaped praise on the Mighty Warriors, despite their heartbreaking loss to Angola in the penalty shootout.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi expressed admiration for the team’s performance, saying, “They were very unfortunate that they lost on penalties, but they gave a good account of themselves.”

The Mighty Warriors had staged a remarkable comeback, winning 2-1 in the return leg against Angola in Pretoria. However, the team’s earlier 2-1 loss in Luanda meant that the aggregate score was tied at 3-3, forcing a penalty shootout.

Unfortunately, the Mighty Warriors lost the shootout 5-4, bringing an end to their campaign. Despite the disappointment, ZIFA’s praise acknowledges the team’s resilience and determination.

We Will Never Have A Leader Like Mnangagwa, Claims Douglas Mahiya

By A Correspondent

Amid Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic challenges, war veterans leader Douglas Mahiya has praised President Emmerson Mnangagwa, calling him a noble leader and stating that the country will never have a leader like him again.

Mahiya’s comments came during the launch of The Harare Province Presidential War Veterans Fund at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare on Tuesday.

“Zimbabwe will never have a leader like President Mnangagwa,” Mahiya asserted, highlighting his unwavering support for the president.

In the same breath, Mahiya also accused Blessed Geza, a fellow war veteran, of being a “bogus” member of the veterans’ community. Geza had recently made headlines for challenging Mnangagwa’s attempts to extend his presidency beyond the constitutional limit, sparking public tension within the party.

“We are war veterans, and a trained cadre will not, at any given point, insult the party leadership. The one who is doing that is not a genuine war veteran. Never ever insult the party leadership. It shows lack of discipline,” Mahiya stated, directly addressing Geza’s controversial remarks.

Mahiya’s comments underscored his belief in the importance of respect and loyalty to the party leadership, making it clear that those who undermined Mnangagwa’s authority were acting contrary to the values of genuine war veterans.

His statements also reflected the ongoing divisions within ZANU PF, with some members questioning the President’s political future. However, Mahiya stood firm, stressing that such disloyalty should not be tolerated within the ranks of war veterans.

Tshabangu In Desperate Attempt To Remain In Parliament

By A Correspondent

In a dramatic turn of events, Sengezo Tshabangu, who previously recalled MPs aligned with Advocate Nelson Chamisa, is now facing recall himself. After seizing control of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) following the August 2023 general elections, Tshabangu used his authority to recall several MPs and councillors ¹. This led to Nelson Chamisa’s departure from the party.

Tshabangu’s fortunes have since changed, as he was recently expelled from the party by Welshman Ncube. Facing the possibility of being removed from his Senate seat, Tshabangu has filed an urgent chamber application against the CCC, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the President of the Senate.

In his application, Tshabangu argues that his recall would be unlawful, citing an irregularly constituted disciplinary hearing held by the CCC on February 12. He seeks an interdict to prevent the Speaker from declaring his seat vacant and a declaratory order affirming his continued tenure in Parliament.

Chiwenga Missing At Mnangagwa Police Event

Mnangagwa at Police Pass-out-parade

By Munacho Gwamanda-Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was conspicuously absent on Thursday at Morris Depot, where President Emmerson Mnangagwa officiated a pass-out parade for graduating police officers.

Chiwenga was the only high-profile official from the Presidium who was not visible at the event, raising fresh speculation about the ongoing power struggles within Zanu PF.

The event was attended by key government officials, including Chiwenga’s co-vice President, Kembo Mohadi, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri, State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke, Higher Education Minister Fredrick Shava, and Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Christopher Magomo, among others.

Security chiefs were also present, alongside Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) chairperson Michael Reza and Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) director-general Dr Gift Machengete.

Nine hundred and seven police officers graduated at the ceremony, with 624 males and 283 females completing their training.

However, Chiwenga’s absence overshadowed the proceedings as speculation over his relationship with Mnangagwa continued.

Chiwenga’s no-show at Thursday’s event is not an isolated occurrence but part of a growing pattern of absences from key state functions presided over by Mnangagwa.

These absences have fueled speculation about a widening rift between the two former allies, with analysts suggesting Chiwenga is strategically distancing himself from Mnangagwa’s administration.

Chiwenga played a decisive role in the 2017 coup that ousted former President Robert Mugabe.

The two had a tense alliance and reportedly agreed to exchange power after Mnangagwa’s two terms.

But Mnangagwa is now pushing Chiwenga out, disregarding the coup gentleman’s agreement.

Chiwenga and his military allies have grown increasingly frustrated with Mnangagwa’s move to extend his rule beyond 2028.

Grace Mugabe In Rare Appearance

Grace Mugabe

By Munacho Gwamanda-Former, First Lady Grace Mugabe made a rare public appearance on Thursday in Harare, where she signed the book of condolences for the late former Namibian President, Sam Nujoma.

She joined mourners in honouring the life and legacy of Nujoma, Namibia’s founding father and a key figure in Africa’s liberation history.

Nujoma, who passed away in Namibia early this month, was a towering figure in African politics and a close ally of Zimbabwe’s late President Robert Mugabe.

The two leaders shared a deep bond forged through their nations’ protracted struggles against colonial rule.

Nujoma led Namibia’s fight for independence from South African apartheid rule, just as Mugabe led Zimbabwe’s war against British colonial domination.

Their friendship extended beyond liberation struggles as they worked together to shape regional politics, including forming the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Both were champions of pan-Africanism, land reform, and economic independence, often standing in defiance of Western influence.

Their legacies continue to shape political discourse in both countries and the broader SADC region.

However, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been grappling with the challenge of managing Mugabe’s enduring legacy in Zimbabwe.

Despite efforts to rebrand the ruling ZANU-PF government and distance it from some of Mugabe’s policies, the former president’s influence remains deeply embedded in Zimbabwean political culture.

Mnangagwa’s rise to power through a military-assisted takeover in 2017 alienated many within Mugabe’s inner circle, including his widow, Grace Mugabe.

Her reappearance at the Nujoma memorial event is symbolic, underscoring the lasting impact of her late husband’s legacy.

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa has sought to position himself as a reformist, courting Western investment and attempting to mend diplomatic ties.

However, he continues to struggle with economic decline, governance crises, and public discontent, which have led many to compare his administration unfavourably to Mugabe’s era.

Mamelodi Sundowns Extend Unbeaten Run with Convincing Win

Mamelodi Sundowns continued their dominance in the Betway Premiership, securing a 4-2 victory over Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.

The Brazilians took the lead through Morena’s 16th-minute strike, followed by Suarez’s goal in the 39th minute. Sekhukhune United managed to pull one back just before halftime, courtesy of Otladisa’s 35th-minute effort.

In the second half, Sundowns extended their lead with Ribeiro’s 55th-minute goal. Makgalwa scored for Sekhukhune United in the 70th minute, but Sundowns sealed the win with Sales’ 66th-minute strike.

The three points secured, Mamelodi Sundowns will look to continue their unbeaten run when they return to action on Saturday.

ZIFA Praises Mighty Warriors Despite Loss

The Seatbelt and Your Safety…

No matter where your journey takes you – whether it’s a short drive across town or a long road trip – one of the most essential safety precautions is often the simplest: wearing a seatbelt. Buckling up, both for yourself and ensuring your passengers do the same, is a habit that can save lives.

Seatbelts are designed to keep you secure in the event of an accident, significantly reducing the risk of injury or fatality. In fact, studies have consistently shown that wearing a seatbelt can reduce the risk of death by up to 45%. In a crash, the force exerted on the body can be catastrophic, but a seatbelt helps to distribute the impact forces over stronger parts of your body, such as the pelvis and rib cage, minimizing the chance of serious injury.

This simple action also affects the safety of those around you. Passengers, especially children, need to be properly secured to prevent harm. It’s essential to use the appropriate car seats for younger children and ensure everyone in the car is properly fastened.

While it may be tempting to skip the seatbelt for a quick drive, the statistics show that many accidents happen close to home.

Even a few seconds of neglect can result in life-altering consequences. A car crash can happen in the blink of an eye, but the choice to buckle up is one that can make all the difference.

So, always remember – no matter where you’re traveling, buckle up. It’s a small step that can save a life.

Journalist Blessed Mhlanga Bail Ruling Postponed

By A Correspondent

BREAKING: The ruling on journalist Blessed Mhlanga’s bail application has been postponed to 12 PM on Friday. Stand-in magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa informed the court that the original presiding magistrate, Farai Gwatima, was unable to attend due to a bereavement.

Mhlanga, who is facing charges under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23, is accused of transmitting messages that incite violence. These charges are linked to his interviews with war veterans leader Blessed Geza and others. The police investigation stems from statements made during interviews on January 27, 2025, and February 11, 2025, where Geza, a former liberation war veteran and Zanu PF central committee member, allegedly made inflammatory comments.

Despite Mhlanga’s role as a journalist working within the bounds of legitimate reporting, he has been remanded in custody while awaiting the outcome of his bail application.

Mhlanga, a reporter for Alpha Media Holdings and HStv, has faced increasing harassment by State Security agents, particularly in connection with his interviews with political figures. The Zimbabwe National Editors’ Forum (ZINEF) has raised alarms over Mhlanga’s arrest, condemning it as an attempt to intimidate and silence press freedom.

Mhlanga was interrogated by police on February 24, and Mhike, his legal representative, confirmed his detention and that he would appear in court the following day.

In addition, Geza, who is facing multiple charges including insulting the President, is currently a wanted fugitive. His wife, Roseline Tawengwa, has also been detained by the police, while the whereabouts of Geza remain unknown.

ZINEF strongly condemned Mhlanga’s arrest, emphasizing that his journalistic actions were in the public interest and within the scope of his constitutional rights. The forum argued that the arrest represents a dangerous precedent for press freedom, calling it a direct attack on journalists who are merely doing their jobs.

The forum called for Mhlanga’s immediate release, highlighting the importance of ensuring his safety while in custody and preventing any form of mistreatment. ZINEF reiterated its demand that the government respect the constitutional rights of journalists, as guaranteed under Section 61 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution, which protects freedom of expression and media rights.

ZINEF further stressed that while freedom of expression does not extend to promoting violence or hate speech, Mhlanga’s work clearly falls within the bounds of legitimate journalism. The organization called for a safer environment for journalists in Zimbabwe, free from intimidation and harassment.

International organizations, including Amnesty International, have also voiced their condemnation of Mhlanga’s arrest. The human rights group criticized the Zimbabwean authorities for using the justice system to stifle media freedom, which they deem essential for a functioning democracy. Amnesty International called for Mhlanga’s immediate release and the dropping of all charges, reiterating that journalism is not a crime and media professionals should be free to work without fear of retaliation.

This case has raised further concerns about the state of press freedom in Zimbabwe, where journalists continue to face intimidation, harassment, and legal threats for their work. Both local and international organizations have expressed support for Mhlanga and called for a free and independent press, urging the government to cease efforts to silence dissenting voices in the media.

Celebrity in Trouble for Breaking City Council Wheel Clamp

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean celebrity Namatai Bhobho, widely known as Malloti Rose, on Wednesday accused Harare’s traffic officers and parking marshals of incompetence.

Malloti allegedly broke a wheel clamp on her vehicle and fled after an altercation with parking marshals in central Harare.

“These people are stupid and incompetent. Their behavior is simply unacceptable,” Malloti said.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the City of Harare responded:

“We have taken note of a video showing a blue motor vehicle, registration number Avantó, which had been clamped by our parking marshals in the Central Business District. The video shows the vehicle being driven back and forth, ultimately breaking the clamp. It further shows a man in civilian attire throwing a piece of the broken clamp onto the windscreen of the speeding car.

The City would like to clarify the following:

  1. The man seen throwing the metal object onto the car is not a member or employee of the City of Harare.
  2. The public is encouraged to comply with the Harare (Clamping and Tow) Bylaw 2005, which states that vehicles can only be released upon payment of prescribed fines.
  3. Breaking a clamp affixed to a motor vehicle by an authorized officer is an offense.

As a result, the Harare Traffic Enforcement Unit is seeking to interview the owner of the motor vehicle, registration number AG, regarding the breaking of the clamp.”

Mahiya Claims Geza is Bogus

Outrage as Mnangagwa’s Top Aide Insults Suffering Citizens, Claims Zimbabweans Haunted by Family Spirits

By A Correspondent

ZANU PF Youth League official Taurai Kandishaya has sparked outrage across Zimbabwe after making controversial remarks on Wednesday, claiming that Zimbabweans are suffering not due to government mismanagement, but because they are being haunted by family spirits.

Kandishaya, in a statement that has since drawn widespread condemnation, said:

“Aripo here pakati penyu akati afamba kumuporofita kana kun’anga akanzi dambudziko rako iZANU PF? Handiti mese nhamo dzenyu dzirikubva kumweya yemadzinza enyu henyu pachenyu zvenyu. Iyoyo mweya yekumisha kwenyu yakangwarisa zvekuti haikupe mukana wekuituka iyo; inokutsvagira chekutuka kusvika upinde muguva.”

In English, Kandishaya suggested that Zimbabweans’ hardships are not due to ZANU PF’s policies, but instead the result of being haunted by spirits from their ancestral homes. His statement implied that the suffering of the people is a spiritual issue, not a political one.

Kandishaya’s remarks were quickly met with outrage from various quarters. Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youth assembly spokesperson, Stephen Sarkozy Chuma, responded sharply, calling the ZANU PF official’s statement absurd.

“You don’t need to consult a prophet to understand the crisis in Zimbabwe. It’s on record, ZANU PF is responsible for the suffering of citizens due to poor governance and looting of resources,” Chuma said, dismissing Kandishaya’s attempt to deflect blame away from the government.

The statement has only intensified the growing discontent among Zimbabweans, many of whom have been enduring an economic crisis characterized by high inflation, unemployment, and poor public services. Critics argue that instead of acknowledging the government’s role in the crisis, Kandishaya’s comments deflect responsibility and insult the intelligence of ordinary citizens.

Kandishaya’s statement has become a lightning rod for public anger, with many questioning the ZANU PF leadership’s ability to address the country’s pressing issues. The controversy highlights the ongoing tensions within Zimbabwe’s political landscape as citizens continue to demand accountability from their leaders.

Tshabangu Files High Court Papers To Block Recall From Parliament

Top Socialite Under Fire for Unclamping Her Car

By Showbiz Reporter-Top Harare socialite Malloti has sparked controversy after breaking a clamp placed on her car by the City of Harare Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The dramatic incident, which took place along Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD), was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media.

According to eyewitnesses, Namatai Bhobho, popularly known as Malloti, was seen aggressively manoeuvring her Nissan Note back and forth to dislodge the clamp.

In the process, she damaged her vehicle’s front bumper but managed to free the car.

As she sped away, a man in civilian clothes was caught on video picking up the broken clamp and hurling it at Malloti’s car, shattering the windscreen.

In response, Malloti took to Instagram to defend her actions, lambasting the municipal police and justifying her decision not to pay the fine. She wrote:

“These people clamped me at 4 PM. Where was I supposed to go at that time to pay the fine? I am loaded with badness in my real life. It’s better to get a screen for $70 than to give these people even a dollar. It’s not about the money; I just refused to be weighed down and waste my time. First thing tomorrow morning is replacing the screen; as long as these people haven’t eaten my money, it’s a win for me.”

The City of Harare swiftly issued a statement clarifying that the man who damaged Malloti’s windscreen was not one of their employees.

The local authority also reminded the public that breaking a clamp is a punishable offence. Their statement read:

“We have taken note of the video of a blue motor vehicle, Registration Number AGG 7256, which had been clamped by our parking marshals in the Central Business District. The vehicle is seen being driven back and forth, breaking the clamp in the process. The video further shows a man in civilian attire throwing a piece of the broken clamp at the windscreen of the speeding car. The City wishes to put the following on record:

– The man who is seen throwing the metal object at the car is not a member or employee of the City of Harare. – The breaking of a clamp affixed on a motor vehicle by an authorized officer is an offense. – Consequently, the Harare Traffic Enforcement Unit is keen to interview the owner of the motor vehicle registration number AGG 7256 in connection with the breaking of a clamp.

Members of the public are encouraged to comply with the Harare (Clamping and Tow) Bylaw 2005, which states that the release of clamped vehicles is only upon payment of prescribed fines.”

Malloti is no stranger to online controversy.

Over the years, she has cultivated a reputation for defiant and provocative social media rants, often directed at authorities and detractors.

EXPOSED: Mnangagwa’s Son Is Part Of Delish Nguwaya’s GeoPomona Project

By A Correspondent| A leaked shareholder agreement between controversial businessman Dilesh Nguwaya and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Sean Tafadzwa Mnangagwa, has exposed how the First Family is allegedly leveraging its influence to push through a waste collection and processing deal in Harare.

The agreement, obtained by ZimEye, reveals that Nguwaya and Sean Mnangagwa are equal partners in Clean Planet Resources Private Limited, a company incorporated in Zimbabwe. The company’s authorized capital consists of 100 fully paid ordinary shares, distributed as follows:

  • Dilesh Nguwaya – 50 shares
  • Sean Tafadzwa Mnangagwa – 50 shares
  • Total Issued Shares – 100

Nguwaya is already at the center of controversy over a waste-to-energy project at the Pomona dumpsite, where his company, GeoPomona, entered into a highly disputed agreement with the City of Harare. The deal, allegedly imposed on the city council by then-Minister of Local Government July Moyo, has drawn widespread criticism from Harare residents.

Under the agreement, the municipality is required to pay to dispose of waste at Pomona, a move that many argue unfairly burdens ratepayers while benefiting private entities linked to politically connected individuals.

The revelations of Nguwaya and Sean Mnangagwa’s direct involvement in Clean Planet Resources raise fresh concerns about the First Family’s growing influence over lucrative government contracts and municipal deals.

OK Zimbabwe Closes Five Branches

By Business Reporter-OK Zimbabwe has rehired its former chief executive officer, Willard Zireva, who previously led the company from 2001 until his retirement in 2017.

His return comes as the 83-year-old retailer embarks on a strategic business review and restructuring to enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable growth in a challenging economic environment.

The company recently announced the closure of five branches, citing a tough trading environment exacerbated by exchange rate distortions, low US dollar sales, and unsustainable operating costs.

The affected stores include four outlets in Harare—Glen Norah, Kuwadzana 5, Chitungwiza Town Centre, and Robson Manyika Street—as well as a branch in Bulawayo’s Entumbane high-density suburb.

The retail giant fired three top executives: former CEO Maxen Phillip Karombo, Chief Financial Officer Phillimon Mushosho, and Supply Chain Director Knox Mupaya due to business failure.

OK Zimbabwe appointed Alex Edgar Siyavora, another former CEO, as CFO, and Muzvidzwa Richard Chingaira as the new supply chain director to stabilise operations.

The new leadership team is expected to implement a strategic recovery plan over the next six months while the company searches for permanent executive replacements.

OK Zimbabwe has struggled to restock its branches over the past year, a challenge compounded by the introduction of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency, which has disrupted supply chains and pricing structures.

The retailer experienced significant stockouts in late 2024 and early 2025, with daily availability levels plummeting to around 50 percent of normal stocking levels.

The company attributed these shortages to restricted supplies from manufacturers and distributors, many of whom demand payment in foreign currency due to inflationary pressures and economic uncertainty.

A recent trading update revealed a 36 percent decline in volumes during the last quarter compared to the same period in 2023.

Despite a year-to-date volume growth of 10 percent, revenue has suffered due to falling sales and mounting debts.

Outstanding creditors’ balances, predominantly denominated in US dollars, have placed additional strain on the company, which at times reported US dollar sales as low as 20 percent of total revenue.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), however, has downplayed the impact of the economic environment on retailers, suggesting that many of their challenges stem from poor management decisions rather than macroeconomic factors.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has pushed back against this assertion, arguing that exchange rate distortions, excessive taxation, and a rising informal sector have made compliance increasingly difficult for formal retailers.

“If urgent interventions are not implemented, we risk a complete collapse of the formal retail sector, leading to mass job losses, declining tax revenues, and further economic instability,” warned CZR President Denford Mutashu, represented by acting CEO Innocent Marimo during a recent presentation to the Tripartite Negotiating Forum Economic Cluster.

In response, OK Zimbabwe has adopted alternative procurement models, including structured stock supply arrangements with third parties to restore supplier relationships. Financial institutions have also stepped in with short-term funding facilities to support restocking efforts.

Man Violates Ex Wife

38-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Raping Ex-Wife in Plumtree.

Plumtree, Zimbabwe – In a landmark judgment, the Plumtree Regional Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to 15 years in prison for raping his 28-year-old ex-wife in Mphoengs, Plumtree. The harrowing incident, which occurred on January 22, 2021, underscores the persistent issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in the region.

According to court documents, the accused ambushed his ex-wife while she was walking home with friends. He chased away her companions, forcibly leading the victim into a nearby bushy area. There, he produced a knife, threatening her before ordering her to undress. The court heard how the man raped her without protection, subjecting her to both physical and psychological trauma.

Following the assault, the perpetrator forced his ex-wife to accompany him to his home. His intention, as revealed during the trial, was to take her to South Africa against her will. However, during their journey, the accused learned that the victim’s family was actively searching for her. In a bid to evade capture, he borrowed a bicycle and transported her back to her family home. The brave survivor reported the matter to the police, leading to his subsequent arrest and conviction.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has applauded the survivor’s courage and urged other victims of sexual abuse to come forward and seek justice. In a public statement, NPAZ emphasized, “We encourage survivors of sexual abuse to report abuse and seek justice. #EndGBV #ProtectSurvivors #SayNoToRape.”

The court’s decision sends a strong message against gender-based violence, reinforcing the nation’s stance on combating crime and corruption. Community leaders and advocacy groups have welcomed the sentence, hoping it will deter potential offenders and offer solace to survivors.

As Zimbabwe continues its fight against GBV, this case highlights the critical need for continued support, awareness, and robust legal action to protect vulnerable individuals from abuse and exploitation.-ZimEye

Magaya Promises to Build 10 Stadiums While Bankrupt

By A Correspondent | Harare, Zimbabwe – In a surprising twist, Prophet Walter Magaya, the charismatic leader of PhD Ministries, has announced an ambitious plan to construct 10 football stadiums across Zimbabwe by 2032, despite his organization facing a court-ordered auction to settle outstanding debts. The announcement, made during a tour of the under-construction Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe, has sparked a mixture of skepticism and disbelief among observers.

While Magaya envisions hosting international tournaments such as the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Zimbabwe, his ministry’s financial troubles are unfolding publicly. LM Auctioneers recently announced the auction of PhD Ministries’ assets, including approximately 5,000 plastic chairs, forklifts, generators, TVs, trailers, and assorted speakers, under a legal case labeled Simon Tendai vs. PhD Ministries (Case # HRECCG779/24).

The auction is scheduled for Thursday, 13 February 2025, at 1 Sherwood Drive, Simon Mazorodze Road, Waterfalls, Harare. A $1,000 deposit is required for vehicles and heavy-duty generators. The auction list suggests that basic operational items of the ministry are being liquidated to cover debts, casting a shadow over Magaya’s stadium-building aspirations.

Grand Vision vs. Harsh Reality

Magaya’s latest pronouncement came as he showcased progress at Chahwanda Stadium to journalists and local council representatives from Masvingo and Kadoma. He revealed ongoing negotiations with authorities in Masvingo, Kadoma, and Shurugwi to either construct new stadiums or rehabilitate existing ones, with the ultimate goal of transforming Zimbabwe into a viable host for major African football events.

“My dream is to construct 10 stadiums by 2032, and God willing, I will achieve this,” Magaya said. “If I fail, I will still thank God for allowing me to build what I would have managed to in that timeframe. Should the stadiums be there by 2032, Zimbabwe will be able to bid to host COSAFA and AFCON tournaments. That is why I have a target of renovating at least one stadium in each of the 10 provinces.”

However, with essential assets heading to the auction block, questions are mounting about how Magaya intends to fund these grand projects. Critics argue that if the ministry cannot retain basic furniture and equipment, the feasibility of constructing multi-million-dollar sports facilities remains highly questionable.

Local Authorities Skeptical

Masvingo’s Deputy Mayor, Daniel Mberikunashe, confirmed that the city council would deliberate on Magaya’s proposal in an upcoming full council meeting. While Magaya’s vision could boost local infrastructure and economy, the financial instability surrounding his ministry has raised concerns among potential stakeholders.

A local economist, who preferred to remain anonymous, commented, “This situation is like building castles in the air. The economic environment is harsh, and his financial troubles are too public to ignore. Unless there is a transparent and viable financial model, this might be more of a publicity stunt than a genuine development project.”

What Next for Magaya and PhD Ministries?

As the auction date approaches, all eyes will be on Magaya’s next move. Will he find a way to resolve his financial woes and realize his dream of transforming Zimbabwean football, or is this a sign of a deeper crisis within his ministry?

For now, Zimbabweans remain divided—some hopeful for development and others wary of empty promises. One thing is clear: while Magaya dreams of stadiums, reality is knocking on his ministry’s door, ready to take away more than just plastic chairs.

Will New ZIFA Referees Committee Stamp Out Corruption?

Sports Correspondent

The newly appointed ZIFA Referees Committee has introduced a series of measures aimed at enhancing the quality of match officiating in the country, just ahead of the Premier Soccer League’s season kick-off this Friday.

Under the leadership of Faith Mloyi, the committee acted swiftly to establish a solid foundation by hosting a training workshop, facilitated by former referee and ex-SRC Chairperson Anthony Mandiwanza. ZIFA vice-chairperson Kennedy Ndebele represented the association during the session.

The workshop resulted in the adoption of key resolutions designed to address issues that plagued officials last year, with some referees becoming the center of controversy for the wrong reasons. Among the resolutions passed, it was decided that all financial transactions involving referees would be handled solely by ZIFA, ensuring no payments are processed outside the association’s official structures.

To further safeguard the integrity of the refereeing process, committee members will no longer participate in matches as officials, whether as referees, assessors, or match commissioners.

Additionally, the committee will focus on the recruitment of new referees, specifically targeting individuals between the ages of 18 and 25. They will also implement a strict code of conduct for all referees, which will apply across all levels of play, from lower leagues to the Premier Soccer League.

Referees manager, Joshua Tigere, has been appointed to oversee all officiating matters on a full-time basis and will be stationed at ZIFA’s offices.

The newly formed referees committee is headed by Faith Mloyi, with Munyaradzi Majoni serving as her deputy. Other members include Jacob Kuuya, Makonese Masakadza, and Rusina Kuda Chiramba, while Joshua Tigere will manage all refereeing operations.

Fake Goods Frenzy: Anti-Smuggling Taskforce Destroys Counterfeit Products

By A Correspondent

In a bid to combat the scourge of counterfeit goods, the Anti-Smuggling Taskforce has launched a massive crackdown on the informal sector, destroying large quantities of fake and substandard products. While the taskforce’s intentions may be noble, consumers are crying foul, saying the approach is too harsh and heavy-handed.

The taskforce’s operation has left many informal traders reeling, as their livelihoods are being threatened by the destruction of their goods. Consumers, on the other hand, are lamenting the loss of affordable options, saying that the genuine products are often out of their price range.

The Anti-Smuggling Taskforce, however, remains resolute in its mission to protect consumers from the dangers of counterfeit goods. According to the taskforce, the fake products pose serious health and safety risks, and the destruction of these goods is necessary to safeguard the public.

As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: the Anti-Smuggling Taskforce’s crackdown on counterfeit goods has sparked a heated discussion about the balance between protecting consumers and preserving the livelihoods of informal traders.

We Are Unstoppable: Tungwarara

By A Correspondent

In a candid admission, Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s advisor, Paul Tungwarara, has criticized internal factions within the ruling Zanu PF party who have been using social media to attack the party leader. Tungwarara made these remarks during the launch of the Harare Province Presidential War Veterans Fund at the Zanu PF headquarters on Tuesday.

While addressing the gathering, Tungwarara responded directly to those he believes are attempting to sow division within the party, saying, “We will not be swayed by those attempting to use divide and rule tactics through social media.” This statement reflects growing tensions within the party as some factions seek to undermine Mnangagwa’s leadership.

Tungwarara also emphasized the strength and unity of those loyal to the president, stating, “We know their agenda, it’s too narrow and we are unstoppable.” His words indicate a strong resolve among Mnangagwa’s supporters to resist efforts aimed at destabilizing the party from within.

The occasion was marked by Tungwarara’s formal handover of a US$150,000 allocation to the Zanu PF War Veterans League, led by Douglas Mahiya, reinforcing his role as Mnangagwa’s investment advisor. The funds are intended to support the war veterans, a key base of support for the ruling party.

Tungwarara’s comments reveal not only the internal strife facing Zanu PF but also his determination to project an image of party unity in the face of growing divisions. Despite the public infighting, he maintains confidence in the leadership’s ability to weather the storm and remain “unstoppable.”

Nelson Chamisa Condemns Arrest Of Journalist Blessed Mhlanga

By A Correspondent

Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has strongly criticized the Zanu PF government for its ongoing harassment of journalist Blessed Mhlanga.

In a statement made on Tuesday, Chamisa condemned the arrest of Mhlanga as a blatant violation of basic freedoms and human rights.

“TARGETING OF JOURNALISTS IS ARCHAIC …The arrest of journalist Blessed Mhlanga @bbmhlanga is a flagrant violation of fundamental freedoms and human rights,” Chamisa said, emphasizing his strong opposition to such actions.

He further described the arrest as an attack on civilization itself, stating, “This arrest is an affront to civilisation, press freedom and democracy.”

Chamisa also underscored the critical role of journalism in a free society, pointing out that a free press is essential for the functioning of a modern and progressive nation.

“Journalism is the oxygen that thrives society. A free press is the lifeblood of a progressive and functional modern society,” he added.

The opposition leader highlighted the constitutional guarantees that protect the media in Zimbabwe, specifically referencing Section 61 of the country’s Constitution, which ensures the freedom of the press. “Section 61 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution guarantees freedom of the media; this right must be upheld!” Chamisa remarked.

Chamisa’s comments also reflected concern over the growing repression of dissenting voices in Zimbabwe. He warned that the targeting of journalists signals a dangerous shift in governance. “The first indicator that those in government have turned against the people is in the targeting of journalists as conveyors of information and news,” he noted.

Chamisa reiterated the importance of protecting the journalism profession, stating, “Journalism as a profession must be protected. Zimbabwe shall soon be the land of the free and happy!”

This statement from Chamisa underscores his commitment to upholding press freedom and advocating for a society where human rights and democracy are respected.

Brave Church Leader Rebukes Mnangagwa Over Harassment Of Zimbabwean Journalist

By A Correspondent

Bishop Ancelimo Magaya, a prominent church leader, has sharply criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the arrest of journalist Blessed Mhlanga.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Magaya condemned the actions of the authorities, calling the arrest a gross injustice.

“The arrest of Blessed Mhlanga for doing his work is wicked and a mockery of justice in Zimbabwe,” Magaya declared, expressing his outrage at the situation.

His comments reflect the broader concerns about the increasing repression of journalists in the country.

Magaya also pointed out the apparent hypocrisy in the government’s treatment of its officials compared to its treatment of journalists. “Police Zimbabwe must be reminded of Zanu-pf officials like Josiah Hungwe and many more who have made wildest utterances – inflaming violence.

These have never been arrested,” he said, highlighting the disparity in how the law is applied to government figures versus independent voices.

The church leader did not hold back in his criticism, adding, “If there is anyone guilty on this matter, it is Zanu-pf zealots singing the 2030 chorus: which violates the constitution.” He was referring to the regime’s alleged disregard for constitutional rights in favor of its own agenda.

Magaya concluded his statement with a call for justice and a prayer for Zimbabwe’s future: “It is such acts of injustices and many more deplorable things that constitute reasons why people are demanding president Mnangagwa to step down. God save Zimbabwe.”

The strong statement from Bishop Ancelimo Magaya underscores the growing concern among both political and religious leaders regarding the erosion of press freedom and the increasing authoritarianism in Zimbabwe.

ZIFA Referees Committee Unveils New Measures to Improve Officiating

ANTI-SMUGGLING TASKFORCE TAKES DRACONIAN MEASURES AGAINST COUNTERFEIT GOODS

Prominent Surgeon Dies

By Munacho Gwamanda- Prominent surgeon Professor Ignatius Kakande has died.

The distinguished surgeon, educator, and pioneer in surgical training died on February 18 at the age of 81.

Prof. Kakande shaped the region’s surgical education through his leadership in the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA).

His dedication to advancing medical knowledge and mentoring future surgeons leaves an enduring legacy.

The Surgical Society of Zimbabwe president, Dr. Wilfred Muteweye, described Prof. Kakande as a towering figure in surgery whose impact extended far beyond his home country of Uganda.

“The Surgical Society of Zimbabwe joins the broader surgical community across East, Central, and Southern Africa in mourning the loss of this esteemed surgeon, mentor, and scholar,” said Dr. Muteweye, “Prof. Kakande’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of surgeons. COSECSA, and indeedthe entire region, is poorer without him, but richer for having known and benefited from his extraordinary life and work. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Prof. Kakande was instrumental in COSECSA’s formation in 1999, helping establish a structured training framework that has since produced thousands of highly skilled surgeons across the continent.

Over the next 15 years, he served on COSECSA’s governing council and executive committee, ensuring the institution’s steady growth into a premier academic and training hub for African surgeons.

His contributions were not limited to administration; he was a dedicated educator and mentor, personally training and guiding hundreds of surgeons who have gone on to serve in hospitals across the continent.

His reputation as a fatherly figure in African surgery was built on decades of nurturing talent, shaping curricula, and pushing for improved surgical standards.

Beyond his leadership in training institutions, Prof. Kakande played a crucial role in medical research and knowledge dissemination.

He was the Editor-in-Chief of the East and Central African Journal of Surgery (ECAJS) for over two decades (1995–2016), having taken over from Professor John Jellis, who founded the journal in 1975.

Under Prof. Kakande’s leadership, the journal evolved into a globally respected, peer-reviewed publication, providing a platform for African surgeons to showcase innovations, discuss challenges, and propose solutions to improve surgical practices.

“His commitment to advancing surgical knowledge and fostering academic excellence has left an indelible mark on the field,” noted Dr. Muteweye.

Prof. Kakande’s medical journey began in the early 1970s when he qualified as a surgeon. Over the decades, he served in leading medical institutions across Africa, including:

  • The University of Nairobi (from 1977)
  • Makerere University in Uganda
  • The National University of Rwanda

His expertise and dedication to surgery and medical education earned him widespread admiration among his colleagues and students.

His final public recognition came in December 2023, when he was celebrated at COSECSA’s 25th anniversary in Zimbabwe, a testament to his enduring commitment to strengthening surgical training across the region.

“His presence at this milestone event was a reminder of his lifelong dedication to the college and its mission,” Dr. Muteweye said.

Prof. Kakande will be fondly remembered for his vision, mentorship, and passion for improving surgical care in Africa.

His legacy will live on in the thousands of surgeons he trained, the institutions he helped build, and the patients whose lives were saved through his work.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Pitso Mosimane Explains Why South African Players Struggle to Break into Europe’s Top Leagues

Sports Correspondent

Renowned coach Pitso Mosimane has shed light on why South African players are struggling to make a mark in Europe’s top leagues, unlike their Zimbabwean counterparts. Mosimane’s comments come on the heels of Zimbabwean international Marshall Munetsi’s move to Wolves.

Mosimane attributed the challenge to South African players’ tendency to master only one position while playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). This limited versatility, he believes, hampers their growth and adaptability. He cited Munetsi as an example, noting that the player was utilized as a midfielder at Orlando Pirates but has since been deployed as a striker at Wolves.

“It just shows that international football and local football are totally different,” Mosimane said on The Dan Corder Show on eNCA. “We have the flair, we play well, but as long as we don’t have players in top European leagues, we can’t say we’re good enough.”

Mosimane emphasized the importance of having players in top European leagues, citing the likes of Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Riyad Mahrez as examples. He stressed that the real challenge in South Africa is developing players who can compete at that level.

“It all comes down to positioning, ball control, and decision-making – skills that distinguish superstars like Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, and Neymar,” Mosimane concluded.

State Forced To Withdraw Arda Boss Case After Failing To Locate Blessed Geza

– The magistrate who was presiding over the matter Tilda Mazhande …also recused herself citing personal reasons.

State withdraws case against former Arda boss accused of defrauding fugitive Geza.

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | The State was on Wednesday forced to withdraw charges against former Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (Arda) former boss, Basil Nyabadza, accused of defrauding war veteran Blessed Geza of US$1,3 million in a land deal.

The withdrawal before plea came after State’s failure to locate Geza who is currently in hiding following police announcements that he is wanted over a slew of criminal charges, including Insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa and theft.

The Investigating officer, Hillary Mazhekete told court that he went to Geza’s last known address intending to serve him with summons to attend court and give his testimony but could not locate him.

In an affidavit tendered before Harae regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei, Mazhekete also said Geza was not reachable on his mobile phone.

The magistrate who was presiding over the matter Tilda Mazhande had also recused herself citing personal reasons.

Ndirowei granted an application of withdrawal of the charges by prosecutor Anesu Chirenje ruling that the matter will continue by way of summons.-ZimEye

It is state’s case that October 29, 2020, Geza bought a piece of land from Nyabadza measuring 423504 hectares for US$1 362 000.

The state alleges that Geza was granted sole authority to subdivide, develop and sell the piece of land.

When the agreement of sale was done, Nyabadza allegedly misrepresented to Geza that the piece of land had title deeds and promised to avail the document in a month, but failed to do so.

The court heard that while Geza was in the process of obtaining subdivision permits for the land from the department of physical planning in Mashonaland West province, he discovered that Nyabadza had sold the same land to Velda Estates.

It is further alleged that Geza engaged Nyabadza hoping for an amicable solution only to discover that the agreement of sale had been cancelled without his knowledge.

About Your Seatbelt…

Mnangagwa In Rare Maasai Attire: Appealing To His Ancestors As His 2030 Agenda Faces Collapse?

By Munacho Gwamanda-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has raised eyebrows after being pictured in rare Maasai attire, a striking departure from his usual formal dress code.

The unexpected appearance has sparked widespread speculation, with some suggesting that Mnangagwa could be appealing to his ancestors for divine intervention as his grip on power weakens and his much-publicized Vision 2030 agenda faces mounting obstacles.

The symbolism of his attire has not gone unnoticed.

The Maasai people, known for their warrior traditions, have historically resisted colonisation and maintained their cultural identity.

Could Mnangagwa, feeling besieged by internal and external threats, be drawing strength from the resilience of the Maasai, or is this an elaborate political move to portray himself as a leader deeply connected to African traditions?

The timing of this symbolic dress-up raises more questions than answers.

Mnangagwa’s rare appearance in Maasai garb comes in the wake of a recent alarming security incident in Beitbridge.

Police confirmed the arrest of two armed men attempting to gain access to a groundbreaking ceremony attended by the president.

The incident occurred at a security checkpoint just a few hundred meters from the venue where Mnangagwa, alongside Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, was officiating a high-profile event attended by approximately 1,000 people.

Beitbridge Police District commander Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube confirmed the arrests, stating, “We are investigating such a case. Our Criminal Investigation Department is holding some men in connection with that offense, and that is all I can say for now.”

The arrests have only heightened concerns over Mnangagwa’s security, particularly amid growing unrest within the ruling ZANU-PF and increasing military activity in the capital.

Harare residents were recently startled by the sight of army tanks rolling through the streets, an eerie reminder of the days leading up to the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe.

The government dismissed the movement as routine drills, but sources within the security establishment suggest otherwise.

Many believe it was a calculated show of force amid intensifying factional battles in ZANU-PF, with Mnangagwa and his deputy, Chiwenga, locked in a behind-the-scenes power struggle.

Meanwhile, war veteran and ZANU-PF central committee member Blessed Geza has added fuel to the fire by publicly demanding Mnangagwa’s resignation.

In a blistering attack, Geza accused the president of failing to govern effectively, citing economic collapse, deepening corruption, and rising discontent within the party and the nation at large.

“Mnangagwa has lost control of both the economy and the state apparatus. His leadership is a disaster, and the country is on the brink,” Geza fumed in a widely circulated statement.

His remarks come as speculation grows over Chiwenga’s ambitions for the presidency.

The former army general, who played a key role in removing Mugabe, is believed to be consolidating his influence within the military and the party.

Another Cop Releases Prisoner Overnight For An Affair

Former Police Officer Removed GPS Tag from Burglar for a Night of Passion at Leeds Hotel

A former police officer, Natasha Conneely, has admitted to removing the GPS tag from the ankle of a convicted burglar to facilitate a night of passion at a Leeds hotel. The shocking revelation has raised concerns over the abuse of power and the integrity of law enforcement officers.

Conneely, who was part of the offender management unit for Bedfordshire Police, resigned from her position following the discovery of her inappropriate relationship in May 2023. Her actions included tampering with police systems to cover up the movements of the burglar, whose identity has not been disclosed.

A Secret Affair Unveiled

The scandal unraveled when messages exchanged between Conneely and the burglar were discovered. These messages revealed that she had removed his electronic tag a month earlier, allowing him to visit her home undetected. She had also manipulated police databases to ensure his location remained hidden from authorities.

The pair’s relationship culminated in a clandestine night together at a hotel in Leeds in June 2023. During this encounter, Conneely had cut off the GPS tag to avoid detection, demonstrating a clear breach of trust and professional conduct.

Betraying the Badge

Following an investigation by Bedfordshire Police’s Professional Standards Department, Conneely was charged with corrupt or other improper exercise of police powers and privileges. At a hearing in November 2023, her behavior was deemed gross misconduct, violating standards of discreditable conduct, honesty, and integrity.

The disciplinary panel concluded that had she not resigned, Conneely would have been dismissed. She has since been barred from ever returning to policing, a move welcomed by both law enforcement officials and the public.

A Pattern of Abuse in Policing

This latest incident adds to a growing list of cases where police and correctional officers have abused their authority to engage in inappropriate relationships with those under their supervision:

1. Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women (New Jersey, USA): Officers Kevin Brodie, William Jimenez, and David Clappison were all prosecuted in the 1990s for engaging in sexual relationships with inmates.

2. Medomsley Detention Centre (England): Officers Neville Husband and Leslie Johnson were jailed for sexually abusing young inmates over several decades.

3. Federal Medical Center in Lexington (Kentucky, USA): Officer Jacob Salcido was sentenced for engaging in sexual acts with three inmates, demonstrating a severe abuse of power.

4. Northern State Prison (Newark, New Jersey, USA): Officer Tasheena Majors was charged with sexual assault after having a relationship with a male inmate.

5. California Women’s Prisons: Numerous correctional officers were found to have exploited female inmates sexually, often coercing them into relationships.

Calls for Reform

This incident underscores the urgent need for stronger oversight and accountability in law enforcement and correctional institutions. Experts are calling for enhanced training, stricter vetting processes, and more robust reporting mechanisms to prevent such abuses of power.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police stated, “The actions of Ms. Conneely are a grave betrayal of the public’s trust. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity within our ranks.”

The case is expected to lead to further internal reviews and possible changes to policies surrounding the management of offenders and the conduct of police officers.

Mnangagwa Advisor Admits Infighting In Zanu PF

Nelson Chamisa Confronts Mnangagwa Over Persecution Of Journalist Blessed Mhlanga

Residents Slam Opposition Councillors For Shielding Corrupt City Council Boss

By A Correspondent

Angry residents of Masvingo are up in arms against opposition councillors, accusing them of shielding Town Clerk Edward Mukaratirwa, who is facing fraud charges.

“These councillors are useless, they are busy protecting a corrupt individual,” said one resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Another resident fumed: “We are tired of being taken for a ride by our leaders. It’s time they took responsibility for their actions.”

A third resident added, “The opposition councillors are supposed to represent us, but instead, they are protecting the corrupt Town Clerk. It’s a betrayal of our trust.”

The controversy surrounding Mukaratirwa centers around allegations of improper vehicle procurements.

He is accused of exploiting his position to acquire a luxury vehicle that exceeded his approved entitlement. Specifically, he allegedly opted for a Toyota Prado VX-L valued at US$251,798, instead of the approved Toyota Prado VX 3.0 litre engine, which was valued at US$109,151.

Furthermore, Mukaratirwa is suspected of misrepresenting facts regarding a double cab Toyota D4D vehicle allocated to the engineering department.

The vehicle was actually a donation from the African Development Bank aimed at supporting the municipal water and sanitation program.

Despite this, Mukaratirwa allegedly deceived the Masvingo City Council into transferring ownership of the vehicle to him.

Mukaratirwa’s case has been adjourned until March 3, 2025, with Masvingo Magistrate Innocent Bepura emphasizing the need for witnesses to be prepared for the next court appearance.

The residents’ anger is palpable, and they are demanding accountability from their leaders.

As one resident put it, “Enough is enough. We want our leaders to serve us, not themselves.”

Tom Jones Weeps On Camera

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | Breaking News: Tom Jones Weeps On Camera Amidst Social Media Backlash

The SA based socialite Tom Jones, also known as V.O.P, was seen shedding tears in a recent live video, sparking a flurry of reactions across social media. The video, which has since gone viral, has elicited mixed emotions, with some offering support while others accused him of staging “fake tears.”

The comment section under the video was a battlefield of opinions. Commenters like Yvonne Makw-Toen suggested ulterior motives, stating, “Arikutowana mari ne engagement yema posts aya… so mari ya Mecky na Ginel rest assured irikudzoka,” implying that Tom Jones might be leveraging the situation for social media engagement and monetary gains. Another commenter, Young Belt, did not hold back, writing, “Uncle muchiri kutowana time to use fake tears,” with a string of laughing emojis, clearly casting doubt on the authenticity of Tom’s emotional display.

Amidst the skepticism, there were still voices of encouragement. Bishop Juliet Chitutsi commented, “It shall come to pass my brother,” offering a message of hope. However, the majority of reactions leaned toward criticism, with Sharnette Mamoyo Mabeka humorously remarking, “Ah ???? jahman tinyarei.”

This unfolding drama leaves many questioning the real story behind Tom Jones’ tears. Are they a genuine outpouring of emotion or a calculated move for social media traction? As the story develops, the public remains divided, eagerly awaiting more information and clarity.

Blessed Mhlanga’s Arrest: The Spark That Could Ignite Zimbabwe’s Own Arab Spring

By Anon Anon | Zimbabwe has always been a nation perched on the edge of political unrest, but the arrest of journalist Blessed Mhlanga on February 24, 2025, might be the final nudge that pushes it over. His crime? Broadcasting interviews with war veteran Blessed Geza, who has become one of the most vocal critics of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime. Ironically, while many expected Geza to be the catalyst for potential mass protests, it is Mhlanga’s arrest that now threatens to light the fuse.

With a history marred by government crackdowns on dissent and a crumbling economy that has pushed millions into poverty, Zimbabwe is a nation ripe for upheaval. Mhlanga’s detention has drawn disturbing parallels to the Arab Spring—when one seemingly isolated act of repression triggered a wave of revolutions across North Africa and the Middle East. But unlike the predictable firebrand Geza, it is the quieter, more symbolic target—the journalist—that could end up igniting Zimbabwe’s own moment of reckoning.

The Firebrand Who Was Supposed to Be the Spark

For months, political observers had their eyes fixed on Blessed Geza, a war veteran and Zanu-PF central committee member, as the man most likely to trigger mass unrest. Known for his fiery speeches and relentless criticism of Mnangagwa’s government, Geza has been a thorn in the side of the ruling elite. His calls for Mnangagwa to step down—blaming the president for abandoning the values of the liberation struggle and fostering a culture of corruption—sent shockwaves through both opposition circles and the ruling party.

Geza’s profile made him an obvious flashpoint for potential upheaval. As a war veteran, his voice carries significant weight among Zimbabwe’s liberation-era loyalists, many of whom have grown disillusioned with the direction the country has taken. His defiant press conferences on January 27 and February 11, 2025, where he openly accused Mnangagwa of betraying the revolution, were seen as thinly veiled calls for mass mobilization. In fact, many believed that if Zimbabwe were to experience its own uprising, Geza would be the man leading the charge.

When police launched a manhunt for Geza following his public outbursts—charging him with inciting public violence and insulting the president—it seemed like the regime was bracing for a wave of protests. Yet, the anticipated spark didn’t ignite—at least, not directly from Geza.

The Government’s Miscalculation: Targeting the Messenger

Instead, it was the arrest of Blessed Mhlanga that sent ripples of outrage across Zimbabwe. As a journalist for Alpha Media Holdings and head of news at HStv, Mhlanga was simply doing his job—broadcasting Geza’s controversial statements and giving the public access to viewpoints often buried by state-controlled media.

But the government’s decision to detain Mhlanga under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act—accusing him of transmitting data messages that incite violence—struck a deeper nerve. In choosing to punish the messenger instead of just the message bearer, the regime inadvertently broadened the circle of outrage. While Geza’s rhetoric may have polarized some, Mhlanga’s arrest is seen as a direct assault on press freedom—a core tenet of democracy.

Legal experts quickly dismissed the charges as trumped-up. The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), representing Mhlanga, described the case as “a ridiculous attempt by the Mnangagwa regime to remain afloat.” Even Trevor Ncube, chairman of Alpha Media Holdings, accused the state of “punishing Mhlanga for doing what any responsible journalist should—exposing the truth.”

Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono called the arrest a “cowardly act” by a government increasingly out of touch with its own people. And this is where the dynamics began to shift.

Why Mhlanga, Not Geza, May Be the Catalyst for Change

While Geza’s political activism was expected to draw battle lines within the ruling party, Mhlanga’s arrest hits differently. It transcends party loyalties and ideological divides, uniting activists, journalists, human rights organizations, and ordinary Zimbabweans who see freedom of speech as non-negotiable. It’s no longer just about Zanu-PF factionalism or liberation war politics—it’s about the people’s right to know and to speak out.

Geza, for all his firebrand energy, remains a deeply political figure, with critics questioning his motives and lingering party ties. But Mhlanga? He’s a journalist—someone viewed as neutral, a conduit of information rather than a driver of partisan agendas. And that’s precisely why his arrest could have a bigger impact. In trying to control the narrative, the government may have amplified it.

Social media has since been flooded with hashtags like #FreeMhlanga and #PressFreedomZW, drawing comparisons to the Arab Spring, where citizen journalism and social media platforms like Twitter played a pivotal role in mobilizing protests. In Tunisia, it wasn’t a politician or activist who sparked the revolution—it was an everyday citizen, Mohamed Bouazizi, whose self-immolation became a symbol of state oppression. Similarly, Mhlanga’s arrest could serve as Zimbabwe’s moment of clarity, a reminder of just how far the regime is willing to go to silence dissent.

The Dangerous Gamble of Repression

The Mnangagwa government’s strategy seems to be clear: intimidate the press, control the message, and send a warning to other potential dissenters—including those within its own ranks. But history has shown that such tactics often backfire. Repression rarely quells unrest—it amplifies it.

By arresting Mhlanga, the government didn’t just silence a journalist; it inadvertently gave the opposition and civil society a unifying cause. Already, protests are being organized by various pressure groups, and international watchdogs are weighing in, calling for sanctions and deeper scrutiny of Zimbabwe’s human rights abuses.

Meanwhile, Geza remains in hiding, evading arrest. Yet, in a twist of irony, it is the journalist who reported on Geza—not Geza himself—who may go down in history as the unexpected catalyst for change.

A Nation on the Brink

Zimbabwe has been here before—at the edge of something bigger, something more volatile. But the stakes feel different this time. Economic collapse, political gridlock, and social discontent have created a perfect storm. The government’s attempt to use Mhlanga’s arrest as a cautionary tale might instead turn it into a rallying cry.

The question now is whether Zimbabweans will seize this moment, turning outrage into action, or if the regime’s tactics of fear will once again smother dissent. But if history has taught us anything—from Tunisia to Egypt—it’s that the smallest spark can set off the largest fire.

And in Zimbabwe, that spark may have just been lit—not by the expected revolutionary, but by the journalist who simply told his story.

Gunmen Intercepted At Mnangagwa Event

By Munacho Gwamanda- Beitbridge police have arrested two men who were found in possession of a firearm on Monday while attempting to gain access to a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The arrests occurred at a security checkpoint just a few hundred meters from the venue, where Mnangagwa, alongside his deputies Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, was leading a high-profile event attended by approximately 1,000 people.

“We are investigating such a case. Our Criminal Investigation Department is holding some men in connection with that offence, and that is all I can say for now,” Beitbridge Police District commander Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube confirmed.

The incident has heightened concerns over Mnangagwa’s security, especially in the wake of increasing tensions within ZANU-PF and reports of military activity in the capital.

Last week, Harare residents witnessed the unusual sight of army tanks rolling through the city’s streets, sparking speculation about internal power struggles within the ruling party and potential threats to Mnangagwa’s hold on power.

The presence of military hardware in Harare immediately drew comparisons to the events leading up to the November 2017 coup that toppled former President Robert Mugabe.

While the government has said the tanks were on routine drills, sources within the security sector, suggest it may have been a show of force amid growing discord within ZANU-PF.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, a former army general, has been at the centre of speculation regarding internal factionalism, with some political analysts suggesting he still enjoys strong backing from elements within the military. The sighting of tanks has only fueled suspicions that Mnangagwa’s grip on power is increasingly being challenged from within.

Adding to the turmoil, war veteran and Zanu PF central Committee member Blessed Geza recently launched a scathing attack on Mnangagwa, accusing him of being a “failed leader who has lost control of both the economy and the state apparatus.”

Geza’s criticism and outburst shared widely on social media, has intensified the ongoing debate about Mnangagwa’s leadership amid economic hardships, corruption allegations, and growing discontent within his party.

Factional battles have long plagued ZANU-PF, and with the 2028 elections on the horizon, tensions appear to be reaching a boiling point.

Chiwenga, who played a key role in ousting Mugabe, is believed to be positioning himself for a possible leadership takeover. Mnangagwa is reportedly consolidating his power through purges and strategic appointments within the party and the security forces.

Mnangagwa: Chinese Investors Here To Stay

By A Correspondent

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again praised the involvement of Chinese investors in Zimbabwe’s economy, this time lauding a significant US$3.6 billion energy generation project being developed by Chinese firm Xinganglian.

The project, a part of the Palm River Energy Metallurgical initiative located in Beitbridge, is expected to boost the country’s energy sector and create jobs.

At the commissioning event this Monday, Mnangagwa took the opportunity to reaffirm Zimbabwe’s status as a favorable investment destination, claiming that the Chinese investment was proof of the country’s growing appeal to foreign investors. “This project is a clear testament to the successful partnerships we are fostering through our engagement and re-engagement policies,” Mnangagwa said. “We are pleased to welcome more investments from China and our global partners who recognize the potential in Zimbabwe.”

Despite the optimistic rhetoric, the Palm River project raises some important questions about the long-term sustainability and impact of these foreign investments. While the President emphasized the project’s role in advancing industrialization, technological progress, and energy self-sufficiency, there are increasing concerns about the nature of these foreign partnerships. Critics argue that while Chinese investments have provided capital, they often come with terms that benefit foreign entities more than the local population.

The energy metallurgical plant, which will be part of the Beitbridge Special Economic Zone, combines two crucial industries—energy and metallurgy—and aims to push the country’s industrial development agenda. According to Mnangagwa, the integration of sustainable mining practices, low greenhouse gas emissions, and recycling of waste are key components of the project. However, some critics question whether the environmental promises will be met, considering the history of mining projects in the region.

Despite the positive outlook on the project, there remains skepticism regarding the government’s ability to ensure that the benefits of such projects reach the local communities. President Mnangagwa called on mining companies to comply with Zimbabwe’s regulations and better serve local people, but many are unconvinced that these companies will do so without significant government oversight.

The Palm River Energy Metallurgical project is just one of several major collaborations between China and Zimbabwe. The Chinese government and its companies have been involved in a variety of projects, including the expansion of the Hwange 7 and 8 thermal power stations, the construction of the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, and upgrades to the country’s airports. However, as Zimbabwe continues to lean heavily on Chinese investments, there is increasing public debate about the broader implications of such reliance—especially as local communities remain on the sidelines while foreign companies reap the rewards.

While the government’s economic policy positions emphasize job creation and technological innovation, it remains to be seen whether these promises will materialize into lasting improvements for ordinary Zimbabweans, or if they will simply serve as another chapter in a growing dependence on foreign powers with mixed consequences.

Obasanjo Sent to Fix DRC Conflict

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — In a significant diplomatic development, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African Community (EAC) have appointed three eminent former African leaders to lead peace mediation efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where prolonged hostilities between government forces and rebel groups have caused thousands of deaths and displaced millions.

The appointed mediators include former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe. This appointment follows a joint summit of the SADC and EAC, co-chaired by SADC Chairman President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe and EAC Chair President William Ruto of Kenya, in Tanzania earlier this month.

President Obasanjo – file

Mandate of the Mediators:

The trio of experienced African statesmen will facilitate the EAC-SADC peace process, a merger of the Luanda and Nairobi processes, aimed at halting the violent conflict in Eastern DRC. Their mandate includes:

• Enforcing an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities.

• Coordinating humanitarian assistance for displaced communities.

• Securing main supply routes to ensure the flow of aid and commerce.

• Developing a security plan for Goma and surrounding areas.

• Reopening Goma Airport and assessing additional interventions to stabilize the region.

Diplomatic and Military Coordination:

On 21st February 2025, the EAC Chiefs of Defence Forces held preparatory meetings in Nairobi, focusing on the security dynamics in Eastern DRC. Simultaneously, the SADC Chiefs of Defence Forces convened in Dar es Salaam, adhering to directives from the joint summit on 8th February 2025.

A Joint EAC-SADC Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting took place yesterday in Dar es Salaam, setting the stage for the Joint Ministerial Meeting on February 28, which aims to finalize the terms of the ceasefire agreement.

Ceasefire Urgency:

The EAC-SADC joint statement called on all parties, including M23 rebels and other armed groups, to halt hostilities and respect the ceasefire. The situation in Goma, a strategic and resource-rich provincial capital, remains tense, with rebels controlling large portions of Eastern DRC.

International Backing:

The United Nations Security Council recently adopted a unanimous resolution condemning the M23’s offensive, amplifying international pressure on armed groups to withdraw and support peace efforts.

Humanitarian Crisis:

The conflict has created a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions of civilians forced to flee their homes. Aid agencies are struggling to provide essential support, including food, shelter, and medical assistance.

Looking Forward:

With the combined diplomatic weight of SADC and EAC, and the experienced leadership of Kenyatta, Obasanjo, and Desalegn, there is renewed hope for a lasting resolution to the conflict. The international community and regional stakeholders will closely monitor progress, as any failure to secure peace could have devastating consequences for the Great Lakes region and beyond.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Goodwill Gesture Under Scrutiny

By A Correspondent

In a move that appears more focused on political maneuvering than genuine development, the government of Zimbabwe has launched the much-publicized Presidential Rural Solar Installation programme in Mashonaland West. This project, which is meant to electrify up to 1.2 million rural households by 2030, is being rolled out as part of a broader narrative of rural empowerment and industrialization.

Speaking at a meeting in Chinhoyi, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, framed the initiative as a major step towards bridging the urban-rural divide. “This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy solutions,” she proclaimed, conveniently tying it to the President’s rural industrialization agenda. The truth, however, may not be so simple.

Chombo highlighted that the programme would solarize at least 1.2 million households across the nation by 2030, with an ambitious goal of benefiting 200,000 households annually starting in 2025. Yet, given Zimbabwe’s track record of over-promised but under-delivered initiatives, this claim raises more questions than it answers.

Mr. Gabriel Jaji, the Permanent Secretary for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, added that Kariba district would spearhead the programme, due to its perceived vulnerability. He emphasized that districts such as Siyakobvu and Mola would be prioritized, but again, one cannot ignore the political undertones of this decision—Kariba is home to many voters from various influential constituencies. Could this move be an attempt to court support ahead of upcoming elections?

The government’s narrative is further bolstered by the involvement of several local authorities and organizations, including the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA), and Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT). These stakeholders have applauded the programme as a means to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy and catalyze rural industrialization. However, skepticism lingers.

“Identifying needy communities in blackout zones is a start, but the true test will lie in the delivery,” said Engineer Last Sauramba, highlighting that real change requires more than just flashy announcements. The focus on training local youths to handle installation and maintenance sounds promising, but one has to wonder whether this initiative is aimed at long-term sustainability or merely serving as a temporary solution to score political points.

For all the talk of rural empowerment, it’s hard to ignore the optics of a government that has a history of unveiling major projects right before an election season. The emphasis on vulnerable groups such as war veterans and households in need may seem altruistic, but is it really about addressing energy poverty, or is it simply a ploy to rally rural voters?

In the end, the solar initiative may or may not bring tangible benefits to the people of Mashonaland West. But with the election cycle on the horizon, one cannot help but wonder if this is all just another political gimmick designed to win the hearts and minds of a crucial constituency. Only time will tell whether this ambitious project delivers on its promises or fades into the background like so many others before it.

Police Officer Jailed over Child Molestation

Gweru, Zimbabwe — Gweru traffic police officer Michael Jackson (32) has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor. The verdict was delivered by Gweru regional magistrate Mr. Christopher Maturure, who found Jackson guilty of the lesser offense of having sexual intercourse with a minor, as opposed to the original rape charges.

Jackson, represented by Mr. Esau Mandipa of Mandipa, Makwara, and Chikukwa Legal Practice, entered a not-guilty plea to the rape charges. However, at the conclusion of the State’s case, the court convicted him under Section 70(1) of Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which criminalizes consensual sexual intercourse with minors aged between 12 and 16.

Sentencing and Legal Considerations

Magistrate Maturure sentenced Jackson to five years in prison, with two years suspended on the condition of good behavior, meaning Jackson will serve an effective three-year jail term. The court emphasized the need to protect minors from sexual exploitation and abuse, underscoring the serious legal consequences of such offenses.

Case Details:

Prosecutor Mr. Talent Tadenyika told the court that the incident occurred on October 28, 2022, involving a 14-year-old female complainant residing at ZRP Main Camp, Gweru, who was a neighbor to Jackson.

After returning home from a party at Windsor Park suburbs and finding her house locked, the complainant was approached by Jackson, who offered to take her to Milan Family Restaurant. During the outing, he bought her food and later parked his vehicle outside Gweru Rural Police Station, where the initial incident occurred. Jackson then took the complainant back to his residence, where a second encounter happened.

The complainant disclosed the events to her parents the following morning, leading to Jackson’s arrest and subsequent trial.

Community Reaction and Legal Implications

The sentencing has sparked discussions within the Gweru community about the responsibilities of law enforcement officers and the critical need to safeguard children’s rights. The case also serves as a reminder of the strict enforcement of laws against sexual offenses involving minors.

Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities involving minors to prevent further incidents of abuse and exploitation.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

MP Calls For Swift Government Intervention In Health Crisis

By Tinashe Sambiri

Hon. Ropafadzo Makumire, MP for Chiredzi Central Constituency, has openly challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the government to take urgent action to address the deteriorating state of healthcare in Zimbabwe.

Speaking recently in Parliament, Makumire did not mince words as he called out the government for its failure to adequately support the country’s hospitals, particularly in the wake of a series of tragic accidents that have claimed lives due to inadequate medical care.

“Our hospitals are in dire need of attention,” Makumire stated

. “Frankly, we can’t keep going like this. The situation is unacceptable, and people are suffering because of it.”

Makumire, who has been the sole opposition representative for Chiredzi in Parliament since 2023, expressed deep concern over the government’s lack of urgency in improving healthcare infrastructure and services.

He criticized the government for repeatedly neglecting the needs of citizens, especially in rural areas where healthcare facilities are severely underfunded and under-equipped.

He emphasized that the recent deaths from accidents were a stark reminder of how dire the situation had become. “These deaths could have been prevented if our hospitals were adequately equipped to handle emergencies,” he said. “This is a matter of life and death, and we need to fix our hospitals now.”

Makumire’s remarks reflect the growing frustration of many Zimbabweans who feel abandoned by the government when it comes to basic services like healthcare. The Chiredzi MP’s call for immediate reform serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for change in Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.

Pressure Group Condemns Harassment Of Journalist Blessed Mhlanga

By A Correspondent

Alpha Media Holdings journalist Blessed Mhlanga has faced harassment by State Security agents following his work interviewing political figures.

The Zimbabwe National Editor’s Forum (ZINEF) has raised alarm over Mhlanga’s arrest, calling it an act of intimidation aimed at silencing press freedom.

Mhlanga, who works for the HStv platform, was quizzed by police on 24 February 2025, allegedly for violating Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Authorities claim he transmitted messages that incite violence, linked to interviews with war veterans leader Blessed Geza and others.

The police investigation stems from statements made during interviews on 27 January 2025 and 11 February 2025, in which Geza, a former liberation war veteran and Zanu PF central committee member, allegedly made inflammatory comments.

During the interrogation, police focused on Mhlanga’s role as a journalist and the press conferences addressed by Geza.

Despite Mhlanga’s work falling within the scope of legitimate journalism, he has been detained overnight at Harare Central Police Station. His lawyer, Chris Mhike, confirmed Mhlanga’s detention and his expected court appearance the following day.

Geza, for his part, is now wanted by authorities on multiple charges, including insulting the President. His wife, Roseline Tawengwa, has also been detained by the police, with the whereabouts of Geza still unknown.

ZINEF has strongly condemned Mhlanga’s arrest, emphasizing that his journalistic actions were legitimate and conducted in the public interest. The forum insists that the arrest of journalists for doing their jobs has a chilling effect on press freedom and undermines the constitutionally protected right to freedom of expression. In its statement, ZINEF demanded Mhlanga’s immediate release, urging authorities to ensure his safety in custody and refrain from any form of mistreatment.

Furthermore, ZINEF reiterated its call for the government to respect the constitutional rights of journalists, particularly those enshrined in Section 61 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution. This section guarantees the right to freedom of expression, media freedom, and the right to seek and communicate information. The organization reminded the government that while freedom of expression does not extend to promoting violence or hate speech, Mhlanga’s interviews fall well within the bounds of journalistic and constitutional rights.

ZINEF also called for a safer working environment for journalists, free from harassment and intimidation. The organization expressed solidarity with Mhlanga, his family, and colleagues, emphasizing their continued commitment to advocating for the protection of journalists’ rights and press freedom in Zimbabwe.

Amnesty International has also condemned the arrest, with a statement expressing strong support for Mhlanga. The human rights organization criticized the Zimbabwean authorities for using the justice system to suppress media freedom, which it views as essential for advancing human rights and a free society.

Amnesty International called for the immediate release of Mhlanga and the unconditional dropping of all charges against him. The organization reaffirmed that journalism is not a crime, and media professionals should be allowed to work without fear of retaliation.

This incident highlights growing concerns about press freedom in Zimbabwe, where journalists continue to face intimidation and legal threats for their work.

Both local and international organizations have voiced their support for Mhlanga, calling for a free press and an end to government attempts to stifle independent journalism.

Man Killed By Crocodile In Chiredzi

By A Correspondent

A chilling tragedy unfolded in Chiredzi last week when a crocodile killed and devoured a man from Ward 7.

The victim, a member of the Mavhechwa family from Matihwa, near Chilonga, had gone fishing in the swollen Lunze River, which had been overwhelmed by recent heavy rains.

According to a witness who was fishing alongside the victim, the horror unfolded in front of his eyes.

“I watched in disbelief as the crocodile suddenly emerged from the water and seized him. It happened so fast,” the man recalled, visibly shaken by the traumatic experience.

Following the attack, a search operation was launched along the Mpfhuti stream, which flows into the Lunze River.

Residents discovered part of the victim’s body outside the mighty river .

“It was a scene of utter devastation. His half-body was floating in the water, and the crocodile was still there,” one of the searchers said, struggling to hold back tears.

The tragic incident has left the Chiredzi South community reeling. Local residents are in shock and mourning. “We’ve lost a neighbor, a family member, and a friend. It’s hard to believe something so horrifying happened here,” said a grieving resident from the area. “The crocodile has taken away a life, and now we live in fear.”

Chiredzi residents have expressed their concern over the increasing danger posed by crocodiles in the region, especially in the wake of the floods that have swollen the rivers.

Many are calling for more measures to protect people who depend on the rivers for fishing. “Something must be done to prevent further tragedies like this. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone like this,” another local resident lamented.

The community remains in mourning, and the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that can lurk in the Chiredzi waters.

Zanu PF Youth Leader Dismisses Geza’s Warning to Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

Zanu PF Youth League leader Taurai Kandishaya has attempted to downplay the recent warning issued by war veteran Blessed Geza to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, regarding potential tampering with the Zimbabwean constitution.

Geza, who has been a vocal critic of the government, cautioned Mnangagwa against any actions that could undermine the country’s constitution, adding that citizens’ power could eventually remove him from office if he did not respect the rule of law.

Speaking in response to Geza’s stern remarks, Kandishaya dismissed the concerns raised by the war veteran, framing his comments as irrelevant and disconnected from the current initiatives that the government has underway.

“Since wakamirira signal yaGeza, imboresponder to the following signals,” Kandishaya said during an address on Tuesday.

He then went on to list several government initiatives aimed at benefiting young Zimbabweans.

“Zimbabwe Youths Council varikuvhurira youths macompany,” Kandishaya highlighted, pointing to the establishment of youth-led businesses through the Youths Council.

He also referenced the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) providing young people with walking tractors to aid their agricultural ventures.

“AFC irikupa maWalking tractor wozobhadhara mbichana mbichana,” Kandishaya added, suggesting that these initiatives were part of the government’s ongoing commitment to empower young people.

Kandishaya continued to emphasize the government’s efforts, mentioning that presidential scholarship applications were underway and that the Ministry of Lands was accepting applications for land, which he framed as key opportunities for youth involvement in the country’s development.

“Land application at the Ministry of Lands, and Munhumutapa youths housing scheme,” he stated.

The Zanu PF youth leader also directed his comments at those who criticized the ruling party’s wealth accumulation, asserting that the youth initiatives were designed to lift people out of poverty. “Kindly respond to the above signals wangu, ndodzakapfumisa vese vaunoti vakapfuma nemusangano,” he said, urging critics to acknowledge the practical steps being taken to improve the lives of Zimbabweans.

Kandishaya’s comments appear to be an attempt to dismiss Geza’s call for constitutional adherence by focusing on the government’s tangible initiatives, which he believes demonstrate the ruling party’s commitment to the development of the country.

Zimbabwe Flies Injured SA Soldiers From DRC

By Munacho GwamandaThe Zimbabwean government is reported to have provided a military aircraft that flew wounded South African soldiers home from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Tuesday, amid growing concerns over the South African National Defence Force (SANDF)’s logistical and operational challenges.

SANDF has confirmed the soldiers’ return, stating they required urgent medical treatment following their injuries in the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC.

The troops were part of a Southern African Development Community (SADC) deployment sent in 2023 to assist Kinshasa in combating armed groups destabilizing the mineral-rich region.

South Africa’s Deputy Defence Minister Bantu Holomisa neither confirmed nor denied receiving assistance from Zimbabwe.

“I do not want to comment on logistical issues regarding how our soldiers got here, but it wouldn’t be amiss. The soldiers are on a SADC peacekeeping mission, and any member state can intervene in any way,” he told Newzroom Afrika.

Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Opah Muchinguri could not be reached for comment.

Zimbabwe is the current chair of SADC.

The return of injured troops comes amid mounting criticism from South African opposition parties, who argue that SANDF is under-equipped and ill-prepared for its mission in the DRC.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Democratic Alliance (DA) have both questioned the government’s decision to deploy troops without adequate resources, including proper air support and medical evacuation plans.

The DA has accused the government of sending poorly equipped soldiers into a warzone,” while the EFF claims that SANDF lacks modern equipment and logistical capacity to sustain its role in the mission.

Last month, 14 SANDF soldiers were killed in an attack by M23 rebels, who Rwanda reportedly backs, while several others sustained serious injuries.

SANDF has stated that “the group of critically injured soldiers who needed urgent medical attention have been successfully repatriated.

However, the military did not disclose the exact number of personnel who had returned but noted that additional wounded soldiers are expected to arrive home “during the course of the week.”

SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini told AFP that a complete tally of the injured will be released once all evacuations are completed.

The situation in eastern DRC has worsened in recent months, with Kinshasa accusing Rwanda of supporting M23 rebels, a charge Kigali denies.

The SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC), which includes South African forces, has been deployed alongside Congolese troops in an effort to restore stability.

“Its like going back to the dark ages.

“Accused doesn’t have any pending court cases.

“He is a law abiding citizen and law abiding citizens should not be punished with detention by individuals and institutions that have a dislike for the profession of journalism,” Mhike said.

The lawyer also said if practicing journalism is deemed to be dangerous then the country has problem that must be rectified by the justice delivery system and those who wield power.

Your Safety Belt, Your Life Saver

Horror as Crocodile Devours Chiredzi Man

“Fix Hospitals Now,” MP Openly Challenges Mnangagwa

Is Mnangagwa Preparing To Flee To Dubai?

“Emmerson Mnangagwa is planning to flee to Dubai.

Be ready to march in. Keep your phones juiced up with data,” claims pro Geza movement activist, Comrade Nyoka YeMabhunu

“This time we are not going to allow thieves to exit the country. As for you you should ensure you are juiced up,” Nyoka YeMabhunu concludes.

Dubai is where several billions of dollars and gold are stashed as filmed in the GoldMafia documentary. The UAE also hosts Mnangagwa’s private jet he purchased with state money just after the coup.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba had not commented at the time of writing.

The development comes at a time the president was told to resign by war veterans who accuse him of trying to twist the constitution so that he can remain head of state beyond his two terms which expire in 2028.

This is a developing story
