A devastating gas explosion in Rujeko, Masvingo, resulted in the tragic death of a 14-year-old Form 1 pupil.

The incident occurred last night, leaving a family in mourning.

According to authorities, the explosion was caused by a cooking gas leak. “The blast was so intense that it left a trail of destruction in its wake,” said a police source.

The victim’s mother, a municipal officer, is currently receiving treatment in hospital. “She’s fighting for her life, and we’re praying for her recovery,” added the source.

In a critical condition, the victim’s aunt has been transferred to a hospital in Bulawayo for further treatment. “We’re shocked and saddened by this tragic loss of life,” said a neighbour. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
