By A Correspondent| Former Chegutu West Member of Parliament, Dexter Taona Nduna, will remain in remand prison until October 29 after the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court denied him bail on fraud charges.
The 53-year-old ex-legislator’s bail application was rejected on Wednesday, extending his time in custody for another two weeks. Nduna, who was initially set to reappear in court on October 16, had his remand extended following the court’s decision.
Prosecutors allege that earlier this month, Nduna falsely claimed to have the authority to collect parking fees on behalf of the Chegutu Municipality. His actions raised suspicions among two motorists, who reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
According to prosecutor Tafadzwa Vhore, Nduna’s company, Team Chapter, had been collecting parking fees in Chegutu without proper authorization. Nduna is being represented by attorney Unite Saizi of Saizi Law Chambers.
Last week, Nduna deleted a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he had announced that Team Chapter would begin managing parking operations in Harare. He later explained that the post was removed because it had not complied with legal requirements.
“I have pulled down the tweet that announced the deployment of Team Chapter operatives for October 7, 2024, because it had not fully adhered to legal protocols,” Nduna clarified in a follow-up post.
