By A Correspondent- One person died on the spot while 2 others were critically injured when their SA registered Isuzu pick-up truck veered off the road and plunged on a river bed after hitting culvert pillars.

The accident occurred on the 30km peg along the Chiredzi – Tanganda highway.

Villagers who stay close to scene alleged that the accident occurred around 4am.

“It could be that the driver was tired and i think the accident was caused by fatigue and lack of sleep,” said a villager.

By 7am. ZRP Chiredzi had attended to the accident and they had collected the body of the deceased.

At the wreckage of the Isuzu vehicle, police recovered more than 10 passports said to belong to some Zimbabweans based in SA.

Said a source:

“The passports must have been sent back to the border so that the driver would have them stamped. This is done to avoid overstaying but the challenge now is what happens next after the driver has died? How will those people get back their passports? How will they come back home?”
