Lorraine Sibanda, StreetNet International President sends a Message on the occasion of the International Women’s Day:

Today, the 8th of March 2018, marks yet another celebration of women across all ethnic, racial, social, political and economic divides.

The International Women’s Day celebrations for this year come under the theme #BalanceforBetter.

In a world where women and girls continue to struggle for equality, safety and dignity, the theme emphasizes the need for balance and ultimately better lives.

For informal economy workers around the world, the majority of whom are women, the theme extends hope for balance in the opportunity to work, balance in access to: finance, social dialogue platforms, health education, affordable childcare facilities and access to social protection.

The need for balance in policies which regulate and protect informal economy work has to be underscored in the process of transitioning the informal economy to formal economy.

With the striking of balance in the above aspects and more, better livelihoods should be realised, better access to equality in decision making for women and girls, better access to justice and decriminalisation of Informal economy activities and last but not least, decent work for all in both informal and formal economy setups.

Happy Women’s Day
The struggle continues towards # BalanceForBetter
