Staff Reporter| China today vowed to support President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The announcement was made as the Asian nation announced a $150 million loan for building a new parliament building in the Zvimba outskirts of Mt Hampden.
The Chinese ambassador revealed, “…a concessional loan which has the RMB 1.05 billing, this will be financial support to upgrade the airport, the Robert Gabriel International Airport here in Harare. its a concessional loan what we are going to sign today is a framework agreement. So the Chinese government will continue to support the Zimbabwean government and the people in their economic revival and social development. The agreement we are going to sign today is just a testimony of our efforts and our friendship that withstands the test of time. I think more deals will be signed in the future, with this I thank you. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE –
The announcement was this morning made that the money can be repaid in a long 20 year period.
China has expressed strong will to reach the full potential of China-Africa economic partnership.
This commitment was first made during the country’s as the second China-Africa Investment Forum (CAIF) held last month. CAIF, which gathered some 500 high-level Chinese and African business leaders, and came to facilitate business meetings between the main stakeholders of trade and investment of China and African countries.
China has in the past 20 years risen to become Africa’s main economic partner. With over 10,000 companies active on the continent, the value of its trade with Africa reaches $190 billion in 2016. It now exceeds that of India, France and the United States combined.
There is however still considerable potential for growth in the China-Africa economic partnership and analysts project that revenues generated in Africa by Chinese companies could increase by 144 percent by 2025.

You are totally lost Cde this loan if it was negotiated long time ago there were suppose to have provided the finance long time ago, the issue is there want to find a way of establishing themselves so as to milk the country now that there is more of a stable environment. There did the same to RGM gvt but during his last days in office he had become alive to the fact that Chinese and Indians do not develop anything in a country apart from looking for loopholes to repatriate proceeds of investments back home.
The parliament building and extension of airport can wait if Zimbabweans are to see real developments. Start by upgrading delapidated infrastructure especially the road networks in the country and in the cities and towns. Hospitals and clinics etc. This kind of thinking is retrogressive, where a start-up business buys top of the range vehicles for its management before making any business that would generate more revenues. First things first.
The Chinese will always support African governments which in turn allow them to exploit local natural resources so that they develop their own economies. However the problem is, in the event of a new government, how will China retrieve their money or investments.Does that mean new governments will need to inherit the mess that would have been created by Zanu-PF? I do not get this. What is so important with Airport development and parliarment building.Even Zambazi Water Project, is far much important than this initiative of building a parliament and extending an airport.
gentlemen this loan was negotiated long back.the Parliament building will trigger a lot of private investments in the form of up market residential buildings for diplomats and private citizens, shopping malls, social infrastructure etc. This is were new Harare is coming and billions of private monies will follow this little government investment. The hospitals you talk about will follow and funded by private investments. The employment creation that will follow is even massive.
Ladies and gentlemen the things which need urgent attention are not airports what is going on ED ,is this on the urgent deliverables your Ministers are working on , what about the roads, clean water, street lightng and a plethora of other immediate issues, these Chinese blokes are very suspect in their offers.
