“Why are the mistakes coming up now when Mnangagwa has taken over?”

Outcry as media repeatedly fails to spell an IsiNdebele word (SEE PICTURES)

By Paul Nyathi| A huge outcry has come up in Matabeleland after various media houses and government departments failed to correctly spell the IsiNdebele word “Amhlophe” in messages congratulating President Emerson Mnangagwa on his inauguration.

A ZimEye.com reader from Bulawayo Nkululeko Moyo expressed unhappiness at the number of times the various media houses continued on wrongly spelling the word which he described as an act of deliberate negligence.

“Mistakes do happen and people spell words wrongly maybe as a misprint but if the error is repeated up to ten times and more it can no longer be taken as a typing error,” he said.

Moyo said they had been discussing the continuous wrongly spelling of what he called the simplest and most used IsiNdebele word in Zimbabwe and they all concluded that it was arrogance on the part of the publishers.

According to Moyo, incorrect spelling of the word is having a huge impact on President Mnangagwa’s brand among the people of the region.

“It’s not the first time congratulatory messages are being made in the newspapers, during Mugabe’s era there was never such a mistake,” he said.

“Why are the mistakes coming up now when Mnangagwa has taken over? Is he instructing them to incorrectly spell the word?” he fumed.

Efforts by ZimEye.com to speak to the editor of one of the publishers were unsuccessful but a junior member of staff at the media house indicated that the advertisements came from the companies sending the message as written and the paper could not be in a position to edit them.

It was not possible to obtain a comment from the President’s office.

  1. That TSCHINGA DUBE only exists in your thick stubborn hard Mashona Gukurahundi head. Your whole world revolves around the narrow Shona mentality and Shona language and spellings.

Hey wake up from your Shona slumber. There is a whole wide world out there of different languages. Get out of that small and narrow Shona world of yours.

In Mthwakazi we only know TSHINGA DUBE!!

  2. I am Korekore.
Are Chiwenga, Tschinga Dube, Mutsvangwa, Matemadanda, Mahiya, Ncube etc. Karangas?

  3. Lol! The Internet World Wide War of Words has just started!! Lemme order more Pop Corn please!

  4. Kkkkkkkkkk, Ndebels please know one thing, you make your situation worse. You are not a special people. Can you comment on Lobengul’s raids in Mashonaland in the 1880s? Can you. You think he was playing games isn’t it, whilst he was killing our people and stealing cattle (a sign of laziness). We have not forgoten. We can refresh the wounds in our memory if you try to be stupid by worrying over a spelling. Ask yourself: do we really need a Ndebele language in Zimbabwe? no because the name Zimbabwe is not Ndebele, but Karanga. So what will cause the sun not to come out from the east if Ndebele is spelt Ndevere. We can ‘restore legacy’ up to the time before Lobengula crossed limpopo if you continue being funny. Silly you! We have the capacity

  5. No retreat and no surrender. You will give up come rain or sunshine. You have been at it for 37 years and your little God who started it all is a goner and we still in the tranches!!

  6. Mina nawe s’bambene so njengez’bunu mfethu. Uma bethi siyizinja mhlambe beqinisile empeleni.

  7. So, since the Shona language is never mispelt, this means there are no Shona speakers who failed Shona, their mother tongue in grade 7?

    Idiotic thinking!!

  8. Since the coming of the Shonas to power in 1980, the standard of the siNdebele language has deteriorated.

White rule was better – siNdebele survived and flourished in its purity under White Rhodesian rule – not under these evil bastards!

  9. Tribalism will never end in Zim because of the “Shona Cattle and Women” mentality.

They should learn from many tribes in Southern Africa that were victims of King Shaka. Only then will they progress as a people.

As for now, they are psychologically captured and stuck in the 1800s. They are too primitive. That is why they destroyed the country!

  10. its ok if am more useless, but i comment constructively, i will never comment about Ndebele or Shona this and that, we want people or citizens who can build a nation not to destroy because of tribalism, that is very stupid and costly you fool.

  11. LAWE FUTHI MOMBE you are a problem, why wasting your time responding to that? i think you guys you have nothing to do, i still repeat, this tribalism wont help you, you will all go to your graves without changing anything, no one owns a woman and no owns a job, all those things are for everyone to take, that thinking is very stupid. # NOTRIBALISMPLEASE

  12. ……of course you would say that ngoba since 1980 you have been on a set Gukurahundi 1979 Grand Plan Mission to destroy us in Matebeleland. You can keep your food on the table nonsense. Ngiyazi ukuthi if it was the Shona language being massacred like this you would have been fighting tooth and nail. Tribalists!!

  13. you are very wrong as well, Zimbabwe is for every tribe, this tribalism wont help you, the same guys in Politics, Ndebeles and Shonas, they drink, eat together and enjoy life, whilst POVO like you keep on fighting on the internet, and other people are enjoying life making money, i have never seen such useless people, like people who comment on these papers.

  14. ini wacho & MOMBE, you are insulting everyone now, you people you must grow up, they are better things to fight for, spellings wont put food on your table or give you any jobs, let us have brains please.

  15. ini wacho & MOMBE, you are insulting everyone now, you people you must grow up, they are better things to fight for, spellings wont put food on your table or give you any jobs, let us have brains please

  16. What mispelling nonsense are you talking about? If you do not have news to write just shut the fuc up. We have ndebele speakers who failed ndebele at grade 7 because they could not spell their mother tongue. Sooo? This is rubbish news.

  17. The day I see a mispelt SHONA word or words is the day I will indeed believe this is not tribalism; but just an error. As long as it is always one language – Ndebele that is always mispelt; its definitely Shona tribalism. There is no question about that!!

  18. ….and you think you Shona people are a special species such that you always ensure that your own Shona language is never mispelt, like you frequently do with isiNdebele – why is that so?

When will you ever give up about this “Cattle and Women” revenge mentality of yours? I mean ist been 200 years now; and still counting!!!!!!!

You revenged with your Gukurahundi; but still all that insatiable thirst for Ndebele blood persists to this day, 37 years later. What do you want from us? Why cant you leave us alone?

You go for our lives! You go for our Jobs! You go for our women! You go for our cultures! You go for our land and farms! Now you are going for our languages and still you are not yet done in trying to destroy us – what is wrong with you devils?

  19. Wena mfowethu. Mus’kucabanga ukuthi umuntu wonke liTshona njengawe. Mhlawumbe ubhalela abakini asazi. Ma kunjalo, qubeka; uzowukhomba umuzi onothswala ngiyakutshele – yikho la mosha ilizwe. You are too excitable for nothing. This is what you were doing in 1980. It seems you never learnt from you past tribalistic foolishness. Bathi liyizinja kanti baqinisile ngempela!

  20. The moment you allow foreigners to distort your language as and when they please, that is the end of that language. I have no recollection of any mispelt Shona word in the whole of Zimbabwe in the last 37 years. Most of these people behave as if Zimbabwe is not in Southern Africa. Its as if the country is somewhere in West Africa, where they have never heard of the Nguni languages!

  21. This paper won’t rest until they manage to cause civil war.so tribalistic.shame on the editor

  22. Mandeere taneta nemi svokwadi! Mnangagwa can speak and write Ndebele very well for your own info. Kana vanonyora ma-article vachikopana havo imhosva yaVaMnangagwa here? Why do you always like to be cry babies, playing victims all the time? Imi which shona words can you write properly, let alone pronounce well?
Life does not owe you anything at all. Get over youselves mhani. You think kuti ndimi mega makaurayirwa hama dzenyu? What of Chaminuka? What of the bloody Ndebele raids all over Mashonaland…Nyaya yenyu iyoyo yokulacker forgiveness ndiyo inokudzorerayi kumashure as a people.

  23. Nyathi you are getting stupid by the day. Some of you people of Ndebele origin I do not know why you have this stupid mentality that somehow there is conspiracy against you. What is so special about correctly spelling Ndebele words? Why must those words be spelt correctly, Surely Zimbabweans are not obliged to take Ndebele lessons. How many Ndebele peopel refer to Harare as Halale, and have you ever heard anyone complaining? Okey, what about isithasnagani, Sotho, Kalanga, Karanga, Venda and other tribes in Zimbabwe whose langaugaes are not even written in those congratulatory message? Have they ever complianed, or you think you Ndebeles are a special specis? Please we kindly request you to be content and then hold your peace. Ndebele is no special language in Zimbabwe. We can still live happy there after without a Ndebele language in this country, just as we were before the Lobengula crossed the Limpopo northwards. I hope you get what i am NOT saying.

  24. Only a fool can happily say: ‘go back to Mugabe’s era’ when people are making a genuine concern which should have easily been picked by the editors.

  25. That’s one for the editors or the graphic designers not to blame a head of state…..this is just a low blow…..not worth reading. You cant blame a Head of State for spelling errors….please get creative elsewhere instead of this rubbish conspiracy theory
