furious…Victor Matemadanda

War veterans secretary-general, Victor Matemadanda has called for government leadership renewal, saying the current “corrupt” Zanu PF regime had proved beyond doubt that it was not committed to improving the welfare of the liberation war fighters.

“We can’t talk of our welfare with people who don’t know how to run a country. We have to ensure that this corrupt system is removed before we talk of our welfare,” he said.

Matemadanda made the remarks yesterday following reports that government owed $37 million in unpaid school fees for war veterans’ children and was struggling to raise former fighters’ monthly pension payouts.

War Veterans minister Tshinga Dube confirmed the reports, saying the financial squeeze was not peculiar to his ministry, as it had crippled all line ministries.

“We are a welfare ministry, which is supposed to take care of the welfare needs of war veterans in line with constitutional provisions, but we are struggling to pay school fees for the children of war veterans,” he said.

Dube said some of the divisions rocking the war veterans’ body were being fuelled by lack of welfare support from the government.

“We see all these things coming to an end once our war veterans are well taken care of. They are hungry and angry after spending time in the bushy fighting for independence, they want to enjoy the fruits. We went to a war veterans conference in South Africa and they had R2 million, which they had not spent and were returning to government.

“I believe our government is committed to taking care of the war veterans, but the resources are not there, once the economy turns around they will be taken care off,” he said. – Newsday

  1. This has always been my question. How old are they? Surely they can’t have kids of school going age. This is silly and selfish.

  2. ” If Morgan wins 2005 elections we will go back to war”, “We will not salute anyone without the war credentials” , we will not allow the pen to decide” . Do you recall these statements Matemadanda? Is that what you fought forll

  3. Ko Chinoz mu warvet shot and injured a lady in Glen Norah a period between 2000-2002 for supporting MDC is this what you Matemadanda and others fought for? Sure pasi nema warvets. Uou are the worst oppressors

  4. Ndakanzwa Mawarvets achiti tinogona kudzokera kuhondo. NANI? Most of you are grannies. You have been spoiled for too long. Zimbabweans needs to be liberated from the new oppressors.

  5. Nhai Matemadanda since when did you discover that. Not so longer ago (2 years) you were praising him until you kicked out. Your hands are dirty. People know what they want. Go and tell your comrades that people nolonger appreciates your contribution. STOP TAKING OUR MONEY. We dont owe you for life.

  6. They are fools, they really think they can prosper whilst the rest of the country sink in poverty.

  7. Well being entitled to the school fees is one thing but getting it is another!

  8. Matemadanda and warvets are responsible for the troubles that zimbabwe is going through. Since when did you discover that the economy is dying? Now that you have be chucked out of Zanupf you then want people to sympathise with you. Get away. You chased Joice Mujuru and the same has happened to you. After all you did not liberate us but yourselves and family members. Be reminded that we liberated ourselves through our vote. Seriously if you were fighting for land why didnt you chase the white farmers since farms were dotted in the bushes. Not even one farm was attacked yet they were not armed. We know you Matemadanda and your team that you were busy bombing bridges, dip tanks, schools, hospitals ,raping our daughters, stealing our goats, chicken and cattle. Most of you went to war when you were between 12-16 years. You were child soldiers. We dont celebrate independancy but we commemorate. We need to liberate ourselves from the new oppressors (warvets). Why are we indebted to you for life. In 1980 i was 10 years and all my children have completed their tertiary education while your children are still in primary school. This shows that you havent stopped your behaviour yekuvhura zip. Shame on you Matemadanda

  9. What school fees? Honestly these mercenaries are supposed to be grandparents are we supposed to pay school fees for their grandchildren as well? Most of these are fake the Chinotimbas all fake thugs.

  10. It was these rogue war veterans who have propped up this corrupt and tyrannical regime all these years, there is some justice in that they should suffer the consequences of their own folly!

We all get the government we deserve, if anyone deserves this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime the most then it has to be the rogue war veterans.

Do not worry Comrade Matemadanda, you will be very pleased to hear that you will be paid your allowance in full and on time from now on. Government’s financial problems are now a thing of the past now that it has introduce a new currency to smooth all economic transactions – goat. You can pay school fees in goats and, no doubt, government will extend this to everything else but especial war veterans allowances!

  11. its high time the govt. of zani grace apoint a minister of looting so that the looting spree can be well coordinated kubira madinga eZimbabwe aya.

  12. War vets are selfish. They are not crying for the whole country that is colapsing in our eyes. It’s all about them. What happened to the 50 000 dollars per head that is partly responsible for the economy colapse? We are tired of listening to their whining.

  13. I do not think the government should look at the war veterans issue in isolation. The war veterans have been enjoying the fruits of independence alone yet the more than 15 million are dying with no means at all. The war veterans have farms but they are under utilising them while getting benefits again from government. Sad.
