Staff Reporter| Morgan Tsvangirai was today selected the preferred Presidential candidate to take Robert Mugabe on next year 2018.
At the NERA demo in Harare today, some parties converging at Freedom Square voiced they are now backing Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai’s own nemesis Tendai Biti was one of those first to take to the podium elevating Tsvangirai calling him “President Tsvangirai.” MDC-T arch-enemy, the former CIO boss who used to boast of killing people with gamatox poison, Didymus Mutasa, also stood up to back Tsvangirai. A ZANU Ndonga representative followed suit to state outrightly that Tsvangirai is the preferred candidate for the 2018 elections.
The MDC-T leader at the end stood up for a few minutes having received his anointing, to give his leadership directions in which he discouraged people from going onto the streets where they are likely to clash with the violent riot police.

Fighting for reforms needs clear leadership. How then do you achieve reforms if you do not have a leader?
It makes sense to have a leader now.
Einstein described insanity as doing the same thing over and over again! why does Tsvangirai want to run for president when electoral reforms are not yet complete and most likely wont be yet completed come voting time? A case of repeating the usual history perhaps?
Why shouldn’t Mutasa support his home boy. He does not want to split Manicaland votes its understandable for the two birds to fly together. I think its a statement other opposition parties are sounding. For a couple of weeks, we have been bombered by by headline where Tswangirai want other opposition parties to dance his tune. He wants to hand pick those he regards as according to him credible. He even calls other opposition parties an extension or are used by Zanu PF. Mujuru might join code and be selected as a presidential candidate since vaMutasa has anointed Tswangirai thus effectively closing the door for Mai Mujuru. Mujuru could even talk to Thokozani since she appears to have ideas that are opposition to Tswangirai, there is also Welshman and Dabengwa in Matebeleland and this could seal the Headboy’s fate.
What you say is the ideal, and is full of truths, however it defies reality and logic. What you say is only achievable in utopia. Even in the first world it’s impossible to avoid these odd alliances. Sometimes, you simply have no choice but to ally with a former foe who has atleast on the surface reformed and expresses a willingness to work with you to achieve a change for the better.
From an independent point of view…we have a serious leadership vacuum in this country. It’s pathetic to put all our hopes on this current crop of opportunist…BOTH the ruling party and opposition spell doom for our beloved country. Contrast this with our neighbors …love them or hate them…they are smarter in their politics than us. The smartest brains have chosen to stay out of the politics and letting these clones take center stage.
A very wise and good question my friend…
Endorsement from all opposition parties cannot happen in 1 day. Makoni also endorsed Tsvangirai on a ddifferent day. I believe those that havent pronounced themselves will do it at a later stage and at different intervals. Its that simple.
How do u suggest we do that?
So, let me put this into context. Out of the 24 polotical parties we have, less than 5 turned up. Only 2 notable guys turned up there, Morgan and Tendai. And you talk of a ‘grand’ coalition? You guys cant agree to walk down the road together for an hour, but you want to convince me you can run 20 ministries together for 5 years? You still think Didymus is relevant in Zimbabwe?
Pfutseke nhai…….
The headline is desperately misleading. The gathering had nothing to do with a presidential candidate for a united opposition.
Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. VanaMbiti nanaDyd, what constituency do you bring to the opposition?
Forget the past think of the future .Opposition parties should speak with one voice. In politics there is no permanent friend or enemy.
What does Didymus Mutasa know about reforms? He has worked hard all his life to create the Zanu PF dictatorship and was one of its ruthless enforcers. He was finally kicked out of Zanu PF two years ago and now he wants everyone to believe he is a democrat determined to dismantle tyranny and autocracy!
Politics is a dirty game and when people like Tsvangirai and Biti shake hands with someone like Mutasa whose hand are red with blood of innocent souls like Christpower it is easy to see why politics is indeed a dirty game. Tsvangirai and Biti’s hands are dirty with Christpower’s innocent blood too!
We really need a major cleanup of Zimbabwe politics, drain the swamp and flush out the thieves and murderers from parliament and State House!
