Contrary to statements issued by government, the Beitbridge border post was en-flamed under a state of emergency with heavy police details with their artillery flooding into the town through the night.
State media falsely reported last night that the situation at the border was calm and Beitbridge was going on with business as usual.
ZimEye.com correspondents who spent the night monitoring the situation on the ground, established that the border post remained closed for all travelers exiting the country with the gates chained.
At first a huge contingent of anti riot police arrived in the town in four truck loads from Harare at night accompanied by heavy anti riot artillery.
Other followed suit afterwards accompanied by a helicopter standby force.
According to reports, a semi curfew was imposed in the Dulivadzimu township with police and the army patrolling the streets throughout the night. No one was allowed to be seen walking in the streets at night amid threats of being shot by live bullets if seen pacing the streets.
Meanwhile reports claimed that the local ZANU PF leadership in the town was last night preparing to mobilise for an urgent meeting to be addressed by top ZANU PF and government officials.
Heavy violence rocked the town throughout Friday over the government imposed ban on importing goods from South Africa.
The violence was so far reported to have claimed one life amid property damage running into hundreds of thousands dollars.
A ZIMRA warehouse with impounded vehicles was set on fire during the fracas protest.
Transform Zimbabwe’s Secretary General, Asan Mtembo, on Friday told ZimEye “this is a reaction and it shows people are not happy with the implementation of the new Statutory Instrument (for impounding imported goods)”.

He continued, “People are hungry, people don’t have money. People are unemployed, people are surviving on selling goods and this SI is actually crippling every person who was doing trade”.
Meanwhile, the latest details shown to ZimEye.com states that the border attempted an opening for business at 5am Saturday under supervision of the CIO and police officials deployed from Harare.

  4. What is you are saying is quite right theoretically. Clearly you did not throw away your economics textbook. However, the reality on the ground is that there is no industry to protect at the moment. All the factories have since closed and there is no money for the factories to re-open or even to re-tool. Further, there is no stable electricity supply. If a few big factories open then load shedding will be re-instated. So before activating this SI the government needs to do its homework in creating an enabling environment for local and international investors to do business. We all know that once this SI had been activated, widespread shortages were going to set in and the black market was going to sprout and prices would invariably go through the roof and people instead of just walking down the street to buy as is the case would now have to travel long distances and stand in queues for long periods to procure basic commodities. This cannot be allowed to happen as it promotes corruption. In any case a few Zanu PF big wigs would have been alowed to import in the dead of night and sell the same at high prices. The solution is simple ++++++++====== New Government!!!

  6. Typical Shona Gukurahundi ZANU PF Mugabe 1979 Grand Plan mentality. You need psychological reconditioning!!!!

  7. The problem with Zimbabweans is engaging in sporadic incidences and one-man demonstrations here and there that are easy to contain by the dictatorship. The dictatorship needs widespread violence and strikes throughout the country that will overstretch it’s limited resources and bring it down to its knees. They have no money – stretch them to the limit!

  11. You are right and SA Zulus are sharpening their knives right now to slaughter the idiotic Zimbabweans, who do not want to return home. Am told right now in Soweto some xenophobia attacks have just begun against the foreigners especially Zimbabweans.

  12. YOU are right, these demonstrating idiots do not know what is good for the local industry. They are used to see their sisters being enslaved and raped in foreign lands, as well as be exposed to xenophobic attacks in SA. i call upon Zulus to revive the xenophobia attacks, especially on the Zimbaweans and we see where they will rush to. That will remind every Zimbabwean of the need to protect our local industry.

  13. Idiots, let the truths be told now, you demonstrate against an SI which is meant to protect local industry, so that jobs are created and you do not keep on trekking to the xenophobic zulu land, so that your sisters are not job seekers in Kuwait where they are enslaved and raped, so that there is an arrest of capital flight and you access your cash easily. Idiots idiots idiots, you are using yr asses to think, idiots. Its high time the patriotic Zimbabweans we go and hammer these idiots like we showed our strength on the a million men march. A few misguided elements can not derail every noble govt plan, if its war, so be it and we see woo wins. We the ZANU pf YOUTH , will now take the law into our own hands and clandestinely deal with the traitors. You shall disappear one by one. W e are going to infiltrate the demonstrators and mete out instant justice in the dark ours of the night. The police will never find us. Its time for us to use counter terrorism tactics before the country burns. Even in European countries citizens have taken the law into their own hands to defend their sovereignty from idiots from aliens. That’s what we call ultra left wing movements. Handei tione.
