EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Margaret Dongo speaks on shocking accident that claimed son.
People First Women’s League Chair, Margaret Dongo’s son, Elton, died following a mysterious accident which occurred at their Mhondoro farm property on Saturday.
Elton, a former IT student in the UK, was 31 years old, married with two children, and perished in a shocking accident involving a scotch-cart in which he was injured on the spine and later died on Monday morning.
His mother, the decorated war veteran, Margaret Dongo, exclusively told ZimEye.com she is still to come to terms with details of the accident. She questioned facts on how the accident occurred.

She added saying the cart was being pulled by a restless cow at the time which when his friends noticed it was increasingly becoming agitated, decided to jump out.
“But he remained in there possibly hoping the situation would improve. It was at that point that he was thrown out of the cart as it collapsed and injured him at the spine,” she told ZimEye.
He was rushed to Parirenyatwa hospital and the mother telephoned while she was in 450km away in Bulawayo.
But the hospital did nothing on him for nearly 6 hours, ZimEye.com is told. Mrs Dongo said she is shocked that Parirenyatwa Hospital delayed attending to her son for over 5 hours.
“I was in Bulawayo when I received the telephone call and drove to Harare. By the time I got to Parirenyatwa, he was still in the casualty department,” the grieving mother said adding that he was still alive and talking at the time.
Indicating that she is being victimised by President Robert Mugabe’s political network, Mrs Dongo said this is not the first time something sinister has happened to her sons.
“I have three sons, all of them graduates, and the older one was recently looking for a job and as soon as they read out his name as Dongo, they asked him if his mother is me “Margaret”. It was at that point that he was told he is not suitable for the job,” said Mrs Dongo.
Mourners are at present gathered at the Dongo family home in Ridgeview, Harare.
Dongo is now the chairperson of the Zimbabwe People First party women’s wing.
She is a decorated war icon who is also a veteran of the democratic movements having pioneered Zimbabwe’s first bitter challenge to Robert Mugabe who later also became the first woman to form a party in 1998 after breaking away from Zanu PF. What maybe mysterious is why he didnt jump as the others did. Maybe he was afraid to jump but foul play cannot be ruled out especially if one is in politics. May his soul rest in peace.
