Villagers from Nyele area in Plumtree were left shocked when a man was found dead five days after he left his home heading to a clinic suffering from a toothache, in mysterious circumstances now attributed to so called “goblins”.
Tinaye Khuphe from Nyele village had been missing for five days and his body was found lying in a bushy area near his homestead.
Neighbours have reported that Khupe had been missing since Thursday when he left his home going to the clinic and never returned, even though he was spotted earlier within the area by several people.
A police source said Khupe’s body was discovered on Tuesday afternoon near his homestead and investigations were being carried out to establish the cause of death. It is alleged that the body did not have any scars which has given rise to rumours that he was attacked by so called super human creatures.
Headman Mzanyana described Khuphe’s death as a mystery, while villagers suggested that he might have been attacked by goblins. The headman said that Khuphe’s family were planning to engage the services of a traditional healer to untangle the mysterious death.
Nyele councillor Emmanuel Moyo said according to Khuphe’s relatives, he left his homestead on Thursday going to the clinic after complaining of a toothache. Khuphe never returned home on that day despite being seen by villagers walking around the community.
“Khupe was first seen by his niece after he had gone missing for a day. She told him that everyone was looking for him but he insisted that he had to escape from the village as some “short” people were hunting him down and he fled from his niece.
“From there he went to his neighbour’s homestead and told them that there were mysterious people who were hunting him down. They tried to convince him to return to his homestead but he fled from the house,” narrated Moyo.
Moyo also stated that Khuphe feared that the people who were hunting for him would ambush him. The next thing Moyo received news from villagers that Khuphe’s body has been found close to his homestead.
Khuphe’s body did not have any scars on it to show that he could have been murdered and his body was lying there on the ground with no signs of a struggle.
People considered the state in which they found Khuphe and the allegations he was making that there were people who were after him and concluded that he might have been attacked by goblins”. said Councilor Moyo.

May God Bless his soul and forgive him his sins. I urge the family not to consult traditional healers, they are also evil rather seek Divine intervention. Go to a Christian Church the whole family and get Baptised esp in Johane Marange. By doing that you shall be able to see him again at The Coming Of The Great God The Lord Jesus Christ. People should not fear to die if they have The Lord Jesus Christ in them. Bury your relative and pray for him that God will forgive him his sins and receive him. Don’t go to these so called traditional healers. AMEN. Messenger Of God
Toothache can kill…we have to come to this realization. Some people lose their marbles when they get too sick and may start having “visions”. All this superstition could be put to rest if we had well equipped health institutions with well qualified personnel to conduct proper postmortems for our departed loved ones. Otherwise, at this rate we as a people may throw ourselves into the stone age where even a death from malaria was supposedly witchcraft-induced.
