Namibia Declares Public Holiday to Honour Founding President Sam Nujoma

Namibian President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba has declared March 1st a public holiday to commemorate the life and legacy of the country’s founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma. This announcement was made in the Namibian official gazette, emphasising the importance of national unity and reflection on this day.

Dr. Nujoma passed away on February 8th at the age of 95 in a hospital in Windhoek. He will be laid to rest at the National Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek on March 1st.

This move honours Dr. Nujoma’s significant contributions to Namibia’s independence and development. As the country’s first president, he served from 1990 to 2005, setting a strong foundation for the nation’s growth.
