CAF has unveiled the pots for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw, scheduled for Monday evening in Rabat, Morocco, one of the tournament’s host cities. The draw will begin at 8 pm CAT.
A total of 24 teams have qualified for the tournament, with Zimbabwe among them. Hosts Morocco and defending champions Côte d’Ivoire lead Pot 1, with the remaining teams placed in Pots 1-4 based on their FIFA World Ranking as of December 19, 2024.
The Warriors, currently ranked 121st globally and 33rd in Africa, are placed in Pot 4.
Seeding:
Pot 1: Morocco (A1), Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire
Pot 2: Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo, Burkina Faso
Pot 3: Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Benin
Pot 4: Mozambique, Comoros, Tanzania, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Botswana
Draw Procedure:
Morocco’s ball will be drawn first from Pot 1 and placed in position A1.
Balls from Pot 4 will be drawn sequentially into positions A4, B4, C4, D4, E4, and F4.
Balls from Pot 3 will be drawn sequentially into positions A3, B3, C3, D3, E3, and F3.
Balls from Pot 2 will be drawn sequentially into positions A2, B2, C2, D2, E2, and F2.
Remaining balls from Pot 1 (excluding Morocco) will be drawn sequentially into positions B1, C1, D1, E1, and F1.
The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16 at AFCON 2025.
