In a controversial decision, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on Monday that the pensionable service period for officers of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would be increased from 20 years to 30 years. This new policy will take effect from January 1, 2025.
The change was confirmed by Zanu PF’s Operation Restore Legacy page, which shared the news with the public:
“Good news for Zimbabwe Republic Police – ZRP. President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has increased pensionable service for police from 20 years to 30 years, starting on January 1, 2025.”
This move has raised questions about its implications for the ZRP and the broader political landscape in Zimbabwe.
