March being the women’s month, it is prudent to look at how gender inequality is stiffling development in developing countries like Zimbabwe.

That is how the societal norms and standards on women’s and girls’ human rights and gender equality provide a basis for advancing action to strengthen the vital role of women and men in achieving sustainable development.

Thus the imperatives of achieving gender equality and attaining sustainable deveopmnet for our common future should not be ingnored othewise the whole drive bocome a sync. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are important for sustanible development of any given community from grassroots level which is at household level to the national level.

There is need to reaffirm committment to ensure equal rights between men and women, equal access to opportunities for participation and leadership in the economy, society and political decision making positions.

In order to ensure that both men and women play a vitalm role in achieving sustainable development, there is need of promoting gender equality. There is also need for equal and effective participation in sustainable development policies, programmes and decision-making at all levels.

Discrimination on the basis of sex should at all cost be prohibited under all major national and international human rights instruments.

Also for pathways to be truly sustainable and advance gender equality, those whose lives and well being are at stake must be involved in decision-making and leadingb the way, through collective action and engagement.
Henceforth, achieving gender equality and realising the human rights, dignity and capabilities of diverse groups of women and men is a central requirement of a just and sustainable world.
