Suspended Former ZBC Acting CEO, Wisdom Hombarume has been exposed for allegedly masquerading as an engineer after obtaining qualifications from an unaccredited institution.

This came out during court proceedings in which Hombarume is challenging suspension of payment of his salary and benefits.

Hombarume was suspended with benefits in July last year after being arrested on allegations of fraud involving a business trip to Botswana.

ZBC, however, discovered that he was employed based on qualifications he allegedly obtained from an unaccredited institution in Pakistan and thus suspended his salary and benefits in February this year pending finalisation of the matter.

According to the Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (ZIMCHE), the University from which Hombarume allegedly obtained his qualifications is not recognised in Zimbabwe.

While Hombarume through his lawyer Josias Mandevere says the suspension of his salary and benefits is illegal, ZBC represented by Scanleen and Holderness argued that the move was based on a new matter of misrepresentation regarding his qualifications.

Mr Evans Moyo who is representing ZBC argued that Hombarume approached the court with material non-disclosure as he did not give the court full details on why his salary and benefits were suspended.
The court heard that there are two matters that must be treated separately, hence the latest move to suspend his salary and benefits must stand.

High Court Judge Justice David Mangota is expected to rule on the matter on Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile, former Cabinet Minister Ignatius Chombo has been granted bail and ordered to continue following bail conditions imposed on his other previous corruption related cases.

Chombo, who was arrested on Monday, is facing allegations of fraud and criminal abuse of office.

He will be back in court on the 12th of next month.
