MDC Alliance National women assembly acting chairlady honourable Muchirairwa Mugidho and nine senior MDC Chiredzi leaders were arrested on the 31 July 2020, after staging at demonstration in Chiredzi town.

On 31 July 2020, Zimbabweans across the political and socio-economic divide intended to demonstrate against corruption, unemployment mismanagement and high cost of living.

But the Zimbabwean government responded by deploying armed soldiers and police officers to prohibit Zimbabweans from demonstrating.

Prominent award winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono , opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume, MDC Alliance National youth organiser Godfrey Kuraone, MDC Alliance National vice-chair person Job “Wiwa”Sikhala were arrested for “organising and calling for demonstration on 30 July 2020.”

Yesterday, Hopewell Chin’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume were granted bail of
$10 000 rtgs and
$50 000 rtgs respectively after 45 days in Chikurubu maximum Prison.

A renowned legal expert Dr Alex Magaisa said, “Bail is a constitutional right.”

Therefore, delaying to give the accused person is infringing on the right of the accused.

Today, the following MDC Alliance party senior leaders will in Chiredzi court for remand at the Chiredzi Magistrate Court tomorrow, 3rd September 2020: MDC National acting chairlady Honourable Mugidho, Chiredzi West district chair James kampota, Victor Bhoko ,Tendai Dhangu, Simon Mupapuri , councillor Ropafadzo, Makumire , Melania Makara, Alexander Simbi, Lucky Mpungu, and Ordy.

The court proceedings starts at 8am today.

The above accused persons are on bail.

The accused persons are being represented by Zimbabwe Human Rights Lawyer advocate Martin Mureri.

MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa stated that ZANU PF goverment led by Mnangagwa are arresting MDC Alliance members, civic society leaders, lawyers, church leaders and journalists and perscuting them.
