Today the Masvingo Magistrate Patience Mandondo heard the case of MDC Alliance National youth organiser Godfrey Kuraone.
The state has two police officers as state witnesses.
However, only one police officer came to testify in the court today. The other one did not come. As a result , the state requested the Magistrate to allow the state witness to come tomorrow at 8:30am.
Therefore, advocate Martin Mureri said, “councillor Godfrey Kuraone’s trial will be back in court tomorrow at 8:30am.”
Councillor Godfrey Kuraone came to court in leg irons and in handcuffs. He was heavily guarded by armed prison officials.
There was drama outside Masvingo Magistrate court when police refused journalists to cover councillor Godfrey Kuraone’s case. The journalists were finally allowed in court room after former Zimbabwe Union of Journalist leader Mr Matthew Takaona of Masvingo Mirrow intervened.
In Chiredzi West, MDC Alliance National women acting chairlady Honourable Muchirairwa Mugidho and nine other appeared in court today.
Hon. Muchirairwa Mugidho said, “Today we appeared before Chiredzi Magistrate and our trial date has been set on the 7th October 2020.”
In Harare there were wild celebrations after MDC Alliance party led by popular President Nelson Chamisa’s mayoral candidate Advocate Jacob Mafume got 19 votes defeating MDC T led by Khupe candidate councillor Mukunguma who got 14 votes.
This defeat is a tell sign that MDC Alliance party led by President Nelson Chamisa is popular.
Mr Kingsley Sibanda, Masvingo MDC Alliance youth leader said, “This Harare mayoral election results show that MDC T Khupe party and Zanu PF party will be heavily defeated in the by-elections country wide.”
