Lilongwe|Embattled, deposed Malawi leader Peter Mutharika could not race against time and finish the construction of his home despite having all the resources at his disposal.

Despite being warned by a number of surveys that he will lose the election, the out going Malawi leader could not do the needful by preparing his retirement home.

Upon being informed to vacate the state residences, embattled Mutharika had no choice but to occupy his unfinished mansion which is still under construction in the Lakeshore district of Mangochi.

A source close to Mutharika told this reporter that the immediate past Malawi president could not make a proper decision on a house to occupy until Friday morning.

“It was terrible, Mr Mutharika had no idea as to where to go up to this date, it was until he was told to leave Sanjika Palace when he arrived at a decision to occupy this unfinished house here in Mangochi,” he said

A week ago Mutharika was on record being accused of abusing the duty free privilege after he procured tonnes of building cement from Zimbabwe despite local companies having the capacity to supply any quantity of the product.

According to another reliable source, this publication has established that, Mutharika has acquired houses in South Africa which used to be property of Malawi government.

Meanwhile, Mr Mutharika has applied for a temporary leave for South Africa which clearly confirmed earlier reports that he settled to live in the rainbow nation when retired.
