Paul Nyathi|In an extremely unwarranted moment of madness, ZANU PF Members of Parliament on Tuesday stood up and shouted “Hure” (prostitute) to young MDC Harare West Member of Parliament Joanah Mamombe as she entered parliament in the middle of a debate.

As the ZANU PF parliamentarians jeered and sexually victimised Mamombe, her MDC collegues stood up and gave her a resounding applaud welcoming her back in the August house.

Mamombe was attending parliament for the first time after being released from custody on bail on treason charges.

She was arrested in Nyanga two weeks ago while attending parliamentary business and was incarcerated at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Independent MP for Norton, Temba Mliswa did not take kindly to the behaviour of the ZANU PF parliamentarians.

Speaking on a point of order, Mliswa accused the ruling party legislators of being inhumane because of their behaviour towards Mamombe and for wantonly arresting innocent opposition politicians.

“Thank you Madam Speaker,” said Mliswa. “It is important for us to have human face and I think lack of human face talks about our inhumane attributes in us.  I think the issue of one having been incarcerated and being freed is something that I think is human.” 

“For some of you, you are the ones who incarcerate, so we also understand.  Some of us have been incarcerated. So when you see them heckling, they are the biggest human rights violators.”

No comment has yet been received from both ZANU PF and MDC leaders in parliament on the unfortunate sexual harassment incident on Mamombe.
