By Own Correspondent| Dr Nkosana Moyo, President of the Alliance for People’s Agenda has called on President Emmeraon Mnangagwa’s administration to stop terrorising citizens and stifling the democratic space through the ongoing violent crackdown on civilians using state apparatus.

Moyo said while Mnangagwa’s calls for dialogue are welcome, it was disturbing that the police and army in Zimbabwe continued violating citizens’ rights through indiscriminate mass beatings.

APA’s STATEMENT ON THE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN ZIMBABWE

APA is dismayed at the mixed signals coming from the President. We welcomed his call, through his verified Twitter handle, for national dialogue in the national interest only for his spokesperson to disown those remarks. In the meantime, we continue to receive reports about indiscriminate mass beatings in Bulawayo by the authorities. While Minister Mthuli Ncube is sitting in Davos pretending that Zimbabwe is open for business, government is hard at work terrorizing the local population and stifling democratic space.

We strongly condemn these actions and call on the AU and SADC to pressure the government to respect the human rights of the citizens of Zimbabwe.
