The government has scoffed at the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) report on the recent acts of terrorism instigated by the MDC Alliance, saying its contents blaming security forces for using excessive force to deal with the hooligans are unbalanced and leaves a lot to be desired.
In its findings on the aftermath of the 14th of January 2019 disturbances, the ZHRC commissioner Sheila Matindike acknowledged that there was a worrying degree of violence which left a trail of destruction on human life, police stations, shops looting and barricading of roads and infringing on other people’s rights.
However, the human rights body has maintained silence on that.
The government however poured cold water on the ZHRC report, with Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi describing the report as biased and offside on what really transpired
President Emmerson Mnangagwa denounced violence, calling for peace and dialogue amongst stakeholders.
The government analysis of the disturbances puts the blame on the MDC Alliance for abusing youths and working in cahoots with enemies of the state in their failed attempt to violently topple a constitutionally elected government.
