By Own Correspondent|Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Welfare, Cde Victor Matemadanda has revealed that the government is working on a massive funding project for war veterans.
The project, aims to compliment artisanal miners’ mining activities and empower the liberation fighters.
The development comes amid revelations that the Ministry of Defence and War Veterans Welfare in collaboration with the National Business Council of Zimbabwe have also embarked on a programme to create a national database of freedom fighters whose main objective is to assist them venture into empowerment projects.
Chief among the projects, which Deputy Minister Matemadanda presented to the veterans of the struggle leadership in Harare, was a gold mining project which will see freedom fighters funded to venture into massive production of the yellow metal to boost reserves.
“The war veterans will go under training to come up with viable entities in gold production, agriculture and other sectors of the economy through the assistance of the National Business Council of Zimbabwe.”
The programme to empower the war veterans will see the National Business Council of Zimbabwe embarking on a countrywide census to identify and register the freedom fighters who will benefit under the new War Veterans Fund.-StateMedia
