Sydney Barson| Every citizen has a constitutionally guaranteed right to freely participate in elections and to elect national leadership of their choice. Unfortunately, general elections in Zimbabwe have over the years become associated with brutal State sponsored violence and impunity.
Ordinary citizens and members of political parties in particular the MDC-T became targets of a systematic State operation to eliminate and silencing the party. The party has over years lost many comrades through political violence. Many children were orphaned and families were left broken in poverty. The initiative which has just been launched by Kumbirai Muchemwa, is a worthy cause to support.
The initiative is aimed at using his participation in this year’s prestigious Comrades marathon to raise funds to help families of political victims. Kumbirai Muchemwa is a former MDC-T South Africa Province Information and Publicity Secretary and currently MDC- T Johannesburg district Secretary for Home affairs.
