Douglas Mwonzora |The Nera feedback rally scheduled for tomorrow will definitely be held at the Freedom Square in Harare. The main aim of this rally is to advise Zimbabweans on the state of our struggle for electoral reform.
The police have cleared the rally. Parallel to the political struggle we are wedging we took the government to the High Court for an order that ZEC be ordered not to deviate from the UNDP procurement process.
Although the matter has not been fully finalised we are happy to note that in her papers Justice Makarau has now conceded that the supplier of BVR kits will only be chosen from the three final suppliers shortlisted by the UNDP. That is a great victory for the people of Zimbabwe.
This is a direct result of the people’s fight. We have to keep up the pressure. Tomorrow we shall turn up in our numbers in defiance of the dictator. This is the time to unite. Together we will win. Victory is Certain.
Did you see the size of the crowd, Comrade Mwonzora, who came to listen to your “great victory for the people of Zimbabwe”?
The truth is in our fight for free, fair and credible elections, who supplies the BVR kits will contribute a small and insignificant part in ensuring free elections. None of the real game changer reforms have been implemented and it is worry that NERA is making a big song and dance to celebrate a trivial matter whilst saying nothing on the big issues!
The truth is there was no big crowd at the Feedback rally because there was no “great victory” to be announced. The people are beginning to see the dirty game political opportunists like you at MDC-T, NERA, etc. are playing; you are just using the people for your selfish political gain.
When are the real big democratic reforms going to be implemented? Unless you can answer that, you should stop wasting our time!
This is mind numbing political naivety bordering on criminal intent!
Douglas Mwonzora knows that less than 5% of the democratic reforms we need for free and fair elections have been implemented – he has said so himself. Then why is he talking of contesting next year’s elections when he knows the elections will be rigged? MDC dragged the nation into the 2013 elections knowing there was no hope of free and fair elections – Senator Coltart admitted that.
MDC failed to implement reforms although they had five years to do so. They dragged the nation into the 2013 elections knowing they will be rigged. Now they want to do the same again! Just how long are we going to allow MDC politician to sell-out without being held to account.
If anyone is injured much less killed – God forbid – I for one would argue the victims to sue MDC-T for their part in this mess. Tsvangirai has the $4 million Highlands mansion, his thirty pieces of silver for sell-out during the GNU, the party can sell it to pay the compensation!
Zimbabwe is in this political paralysis and economic mess because we have failed to implement the necessary democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Before the 2013 elections, MDC politicians assured the nation they had done enough to ensure the coming elections will finally be free, fair and credible. Other people, notably SADC leaders, said MDC needed to do more but MDC leaders would not listen.
By noon of voting day, 31 July 2013, Tsvangirai acknowledged that Zanu PF “stole the elections”.
MDC-T has failed to get even one meaningful reform implemented since the rigged July 2013 elections and yet the party is talking of electoral victory in next year’s elections.
“Although the matter has not been fully finalised we are happy to note that in her papers Justice Makarau has now conceded that the supplier of BVR kits will only be chosen from the three final suppliers shortlisted by the UNPD. That is a great victory for the people of Zimbabwe,” Mr Mwonzora is telling the nation.
There is no “great victory” here since this is insignificant compared to the raft of reforms that must be implemented to ensure next year’s elections are free and fair and not a repeat of the 2013 elections. MDC-T are once again ignoring the warning not to contest the 2018 elections without first implementing the reforms.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” admitted Senator David Coltart before the 2013 elections.
“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
It will be sheer madness for the people of Zimbabwe to go into yet another flawed election knowing fully well Zanu PF will rig the vote and yet expect the regime to lose. We must not allow ourselves to be misled by MDC-T politicians who have their own selfish agenda.
The only victory here is that Mr Mwonzora and a few of his opposition friends will get themselves seats on the gravy train.
