Terrence Mawawa Zvishavane |As tension continues to mount in the country as a result of civil unrest caused by the deepening economic crisis, five MDC Youth Assembly officials have been arrested for insulting President Robert Mugabe in a song.
In a move which reflects panic and uncertainty by the government, in the wake of the increasing socio-economic woes,the five youths were arrested for the song police say was targeted at denigrating the 92 year old veteran ruler.
The five Midlands Province youth officials are Trynos Shava(Secretary for Defence),Enock Msindo,Peter Hove(District Youth Secretary),Ruizhi Shoko(National Executive member) and one Sibanda who is the District Deputy Organising Secretary.
The five were arrested in Zvishavane for singing a song the police said was an insult to Mugabe.
The youths were singing the song which included the following statement: “Hatitongwe neanopfeka mapampers(We cannot be ruled by someone who wears diapers).
MDC Midlands spokesperson Munyaradzi Mutandavari confirmed the arrest saying the five were detained at Zvishavane Police Station. “The five youths have been arrested for merely singing.
The regime is desperate to muzzle the people.It is quite clear that Mugabe has failed the nation and he has to step down,”said Mutandavari. The five youths will appear in court soon facing charges of undermining the President.
