Terrence Mawawa | Masvingo  Zanu PF Masvingo Urban Constituency MP Daniel Shumba, faces public humiliation after a member of the party’s youth league claimed the legislator borrowed 350 chickens from him and failed to pay the required sum of $ 2450.
The embattled Shumba,who had earlier indicated in a statement recorded by one Constable Mpofu some time ago that a Zanu PF youth league member Manyanga Sengerai had refused to hand back a motorbike he gave him to assist the MP during his 2013 campaign programme.
“I know the accused person not only in connection with this case but as a youth member in my constituency. I recall that sometime in May 2013 I bought a motorbike which I gave him on condition he was going to return it after campaign or on demand.”
“On June 18 2014,I confronted him ,asking him about the whereabouts of the motorbike.I bought the motorbike worth $2800 and gave it to Manyenga Sengerai to use as a form of transport since he was campaigning for me…,”reads part of the statement seen by ZimEye.com.
However Sengerai said Shumba’s claims were calculated to gag him over the cash the MP owed him.
“I deny the charges levelled against me .I bought the motorbike with my own money.He wants to intimidate and victimise me.He is a liar.”
“He didn’t come back to the people who voted him.He borrowed 350 chickens from me and he has failed to pay the required sum of $2450.Since he has withdrawn the case,I would like to sue him for defamation of character,”said Sengerai in a counter statement.
