Terrence Mawawa, Gutu|In a tragic incident that has rocked the local community, a 32 year old man from Kuchinei Village killed his mother in cold blood for slaughtering his chicken to feed his sister.
Farai Tamanika Sharara murdered his mother, Otilia Sharara(71) on June 11 in the afternoon before hanging himself in a tree, a stone’s throw from his mother’s homestead.
Bhasera police confirmed the sad incident and referred questions to Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Charity Mazula who was not readily available for a comment as she was said to be out of Masvingo.
Farai who was not at home when his sister identified as Tsitsi Sharara arrived from Zaka, found his mother preparing a meal after slaughtering the hen. He scolded his mother for slaughtering the hen which had chicks. Farai shouted at his mother saying she was supposed to slaughter a rooster instead of the hen.
As the altercation ensued, Tsitsi tried to refrain Farai from attacking their mother but he overpowered her, took a pestle and charged towards his mother.
Tsitsi then rushed to nearby villagers to seek help. When she returned after a few minutes, she found the mother lying in a pool of blood after being hit several times with the pestle.
Farai’s body was found hanging on a tree, a few metres from his mother’s homestead.
The bodies were taken to Gutu Mission Hospital by Bhasera police.
“It is true that we have such a case and we have since taken the two bodies to Gutu Mission Hospital,” said a ZRP constable based at Bhasera Police Camp.
