Zimbabwe People First Party has sought to downplay reports that founding leaders Joice Mujuru and Didymus Mutasa, have been engaged in a nasty internal war of attrition against each other.
Instead claiming that the two have no qualms between each other and actually enjoy a good relationship.
The media shy Mujuru has been accused by party insiders of lacking decisiveness and other leadership attributes to keep the new party together.
The response was made Mujuru’s personal information person Kudakwashe Bhasikiti through a note to party members copied to media on Sunday evening.
In the note, Bhasikiti warns party members against believing and spreading falsehoods that the two leaders are not seeing eye to eye in the run up to the official launch of the new party set for end of July.
“I have noted with great concern the great desire to divide the founding leaders of our precious revolution. May I take this opportunity to advise you any attempt to separate The President Dr Joice Mujuru from her closest Advisors (Didymus) Mutasa and (Rugare) Gumbo will not succeed,” wrote Bhasikiti.
The temperamental former ZANU PF legislator warned party members who are bent on causing divisions in the party to leave the factional fights in the parties they were previously in.
“Anyone who can claim any position whether appointed or self appointment should refrain from going to public media to pretend to love our leader better than others. All these archaic tactics should be buried in your former political parties,” he said.
Bhasikiti further dispelled the media speculation
that the two leaders are involved in heavy factional fights.
“In ZPFP get it from me we want real Unity not imagined,” he said. “May I also assure you from where I stand there is excellent relations among the three Dr Mujuru, Mutasa and Gumbo.”
Party members and media have in recent weeks been echoing sentiments that the two leaders are not working well together as they clash on how to run the party.
According to party sources Mutasa is accusing Mujuru of giving former opposition party members too much influence in the party which he believes should actually be promoting former ZANU PF members.
“Mujuru and Mutasa bed mates.”
