How ready is Zimbabwe for a revolution?
ZimPolicy Debate: With the Itai Dzamara abduction, the subsequent bloody prison riots, and then the lecturers’ strike, it is clear right now that Zimbabwe is pregnant with volcanic emotions for a major revolution. The unprecedented embarrassing Chikurubi Maximum prison riots on Friday the 13th prison authorities tried to hide their corruption on, only displays an every growing-angry nation, Zimbabwe.
If only there was someone of something that would trigger that revolution, l tell you we are steps into a revolution. Why l say this is because there are independent events showing disgruntlements. Chikurubi, Dzamara, UZ, MPs, all this.
But other arguments say this is mere talk with no substance. Wrote two other Zimbabweans,
“But how do you then assume power if not through elections? Remember even after the liberation struggle we went to the polls. But the situation is different now. We have an elected government. Some might argue that the ballot was stolen. But in the absence of a substantiated allegations of rigging, then there is no basis to entertain the rigging claims. So as a people do we want to set a precedent of removing elected governments by force? How do we ensure that the leader of such “revolution” represents the majority of Zimbabweans? For all we know, things may be so hard but ZANU PF does have its fair share of support. In 2008, the MDCs got majority seats in Parliament. This shows that elections are winnable. We must avoid the temptation to think that elections are only fair when the parties that we belong to win.”
Another Zimbabwean said all ZANU PF needs to do is to address its factionalism and mend relations. They said, ” If Zanu Pf addresses its factionalism and mend their relations, then the third force will rocket to power unexpectedly. Mdc is not going to get in power even if it wins elections. Why? Zanu Pf will go to war with anybody who goes against the revolution concept. It also can use state machinery to ensure the MDC will never get closer to power. Of course it’s propaganda but it works well for Zanu pf.” – Lance Mushaninga, ZimPolicy Debates, Harare
