Nine MDC members together with a BBC news crew were this afternoon assaulted by suspected Zanu PF supporters at Nenyere Flats in Mbare, Harare.
The nine were assaulted while putting up MDC posters encouraging people to vote yes tomorrow in the referendum on the new Constitution.
A BBC news crew that was in Mbare filming preparations for the referendum was also assaulted and their filming equipment damaged by the same attackers.
The MDC-T members were seeking medical attention at the time of writing.
However, when they made a report at Matapi Police Station, the police officers at the station refused to accept their complaints saying they should first go and remove the MDC-T shirts they were wearing, the party complained.
A SADC observer team in Zimbabwe for the referendum is reported later visiting the MDC-T members and strongly condemning the rowdy behaviour exhibited by the attackers.

The MDC-T party has been on a nationwide campaign for a yes vote for the constitution but has been castgated for its efforts to support the draft paper which is believed rather retains executive powers of the presidency.
The party stated in a statement:
“However, all is set for the referendum on the new Constitution and the MDC is confident that the people of Zimbabwe will vote yes tomorrow in preparation for free and fair elections that will be held this year and which the MDC will resoundingly win and bring real change to the people of Zimbabwe.”

  1. Is the BBC not banned in Zim? Serves them right, they should keep out of internal issues.

  2. Thanks Peter. I thank you so much and every word you have said is very true to the bone. The actors should change their tactics now. The coincidence is just too much. BBC crew filming MDC supporters putting posters in Mbare. (Mbare is where they allege Chipangano hails from). Suddenly, MDC supporters are attacked, and the BBC news crew? Why put posters on the last day and under the watchfull eye of BBC? This is nonsense

  3. Ah huh! Funny the BBC agent is black, they wr beaten 4 making noise, & probably filming…..the unemployed boys 4rm our mother party lost it because their posters wr handwritten by charcoal & MDC T had an A3 colour print….so yah they wr beaten of being fancy…..nothing too serious….

  4. I was not there when the Mbare incident occurred, but I’m very sure that it was nothing more than a poorly stage-managed brawl to attract the wrath of the BBC, ENCA and other international press.
I want to encourage all Zimbabwe to see beyond the beyond the British machines. These people are always looking for violence and war. They never preach peace. That’s why they only publish negative stories about Zim. Have you ever seen them reporting that President Mugabe is saying no to political violence? To them peace is not news. To ENCA that took up the story in such sensational fashion, I urge the TV channel to do some self-introspection and check their role in making South Africa the violent society that it is.
The British always want to deep their fingers in our pie. The British wanted violent and that BBC crew was there to film violence. Period. They might even have paid those guys.
I clearly heard that woman shouting, “ngaaende anonamira kumba kwake”. Is this not a case of someone protecting their property from political graffiti? Have we not seen some people writing “This is not a political wall” on their durawalls and properties?
Zimbabweans must be much smarter than this and ignore this latest British stunt. Let’s go and vote peacefully and shame them.

Kana zvaramba toedza zvimwe ka, come to think of it we have the numbers. We cant go on like this letting a small roudy mob intentionally stepping on our toes now and then, kujairirwa ka uku?Im not saying lets provoke these zealots but im suggesting that the moment we get provoked we respond immediately with twice the force, trust me this will work and hatijairirwe, we cant go on like this as if we are rocks. We are peace loving people yes asi ka look at it we dont have peace we are constantly victimised, sometimes to create peace you have to fight hard and respond heavily to provocation. This has worked for Israel why cant if work for us?
